"gala nari" Discussed on Chad Ford's NBA Big Board

"Going feature him. I think one of the lessons from summer league is that they've got a lot of things to work out right now about how he plays with kellyanne hayes bay and others. What is his role going to be. I know detroit fans just wanna see the in his hands. Make him the primary creator on this team. And i don't know that he's that i i think it's probably worth the experiment but i actually think it might be smart for the pistons to protect him a little bit. Continue to let killian hayes play that role even though i was pretty disappointed with the way hayes played in the summer league and protect kate a little bit. Because i'm not sure that that scouting report that we had of him out of high school has been where he's evolved as a basketball player the turnover. The sister turnover ratio concerns me. And i'm not sure that he's not going to be more of a. Chris middleton or jason tatum of type of of score secondary ball handler type of type of prospect for detroit. But with that said if he's going to shoot the ball anyway or like he shot at oklahoma state and he shot it in the summer league. This is going to be a guy who's going to average sixteen seventeen points a game. He's probably gonna have four or five assists the game four or five rebounds a game and he's going to have a really really strong rookie season if they put the ball in his hands as the primary ball handler and he thrives and improves chad. The skeptic a little wrong there then he probably deserves to get bumped up the list. There's also the possibility that put the ball in his hands and that gets exposed and if it does then there's the potential that maybe the cade bandwagon is going to get a little lighter pretty soon so be really interested to see how detroit decides the play that out but he's gotta get opportunities. He's gonna get touches. I think they are going to feature habit every way possible. The start building his level of confidence up. He is the best player on this pistons. Roster really right now. I mean jeremy grant. Maybe because he's a veteran but long-term upside is there. And so i i expect. We're going to see good things from kate. I don't know that it's going to be. Wow like twenty points a night type cade but i think we're going to a really good rookie season from k. What say you yet so the thing that concerns me the most with kate and i'm not sure it's the point that gets talked about a lot but obviously chad when we talk about cade coming into the draft. The jump shooting was a question mark coming out of high school but it was also really him not being elite level athlete. Having that awesome. I step to get by guys not everyone in the nba. Always has like you can take a look at luca danni for example who had of skeptics But the thing that luka has in his favor that cave does not have is lucas size and his strength right. If he gets even a half of a step on somebody he can hold them on his head and when he gets to the middle of the floor. That's a problem kate. Kate is not a he he's tall but he's not a big guy. He's actually really skinny when you see him up close when i got to see him out in vegas Surprised at how skinny he was on. I think he's definitely going to need to get stronger. And put on some weight to be able to leverage that aspect of doing things off the dribble. Because yeah he's never he's never going to be that leap low by guide but he needs also be able to handle the physical matchups in front of him. And so that's why. I mean i have number ten so he does make the list. But that's why. I don't think that he's going to have eh spectacular of rookie year. Either chad i think the jump shots saves him like the fact that he was able to be any league catch and shoot player in college in upwards alike the ninetieth percentile like that helps but his ability to do as much on the ball. I think as many were projecting coming out of college. That's gonna be in question definitely this year. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out for all right i. That's cade ten on his board made eight on my board. I'm sure there's gonna be some pistons fans that are going to disagree with us on this and certainly have him higher. That means we're to number nine on your board you gave us who number ten is gonna be so who's number nine number nine. The andre hunter and that is tied to health. Potentially him being this higher maybe even climbing higher. He has had some some health concerns from injury concerns. By if he is healthy he doesn't do Howard doesn't do anything that surly sexy on offense but he has become a much better. Sandstone jump shooter is a catch and shoot. Threat is another guy you can run him off the ball in different actions you can get him the ball in handoffs or or run him off screens a little bit. He's going to be able to make things happen when he gets downhill because he is not elite athlete but he is a good to great athlete. But really what sets him apart for me defensively. He is foreign away. The best defensive player on my list and out of all the guys that we've talked about today normally. I don't like reading off. Statistics in bunches chap. If you'd let me i'd like to just read off. So last year as far synergy percentiles go for it. so defensively. he was in the ninety four percentile. in terms of total defence. The seventy nine th percentile in terms of guarding the ball handler. Picket role. eightieth in spot-ups ninety seven handoffs and defending the roll man a real actions ninety third on jumpers ninety six around the basket ninetieth catch shoot opportunities in eighty eighth contesting all. Jump shots off the dribble. Where's the weakness like. He doesn't have any weakness in his defensive game. So when you're able to have that kind of player on the floor even though he might only be a third or fourth or fifth option offensively having that level of switchable defensive talent. I mean again. That's another thing that nba teams are always looking for in every draft in atlanta. It's crazy that he might get a lot of offense of opportunity not just in more of his limited skill set for recreation standpoint but they just have so many guys atlanta period in fits in that starting lineup because of his defensive versatility and he will they. We can talk about how much these guys impact winning given their so young players but his defense does translate and help atlantic keep winning basketball I really like him. He did not make my list. But i really like him part of the reasoning. He didn't make the list was again. I'm trying to figure out how atlanta is going to keep all the guys healthy that they have right now. I mean that's a great problem to have. I'm not criticizing atlanta that they are just ridiculously deep. In fact on thursday. I wrote about bradley. Beal trade in part. Because they're probably the only team that i can think of in the league right now that could trade for bill and may not have to trade a starter to get him. They have such a deep core of young players that they have this ridiculous ability to maybe land beal without gutting their starting five and in my opinion probably can even keep boundary hunter out of a deal and instead you know think about cam. Radish and jalen john say woo throwing gala nari is sort of a guy to sort of make the salaries salaries work and and then you're talking about potential title contender for the high and for washington. You might get you know four. You know young prospects which is typically kind of what you want out of this letter all intriguing. I mean the only thing that for me stop washington that none of those guys are sure hanes cam radishes ensure thing. There's not a sure thing okon was not you know. You're you are trading a superstar for a number of guys that have potential. But i actually think it's the most underrated deal that people aren't sort of talking about and if atlanta just really wants to go there i think they could really go there and wow i mean you're bringing bogdonovich off the bench. Now i mean you're you're it's just really crazy. Great team that they can have if they want to have it. I had tires halliburton nine. We talked about halliburton. And you had him. I think one spot higher at or maybe seven or eight so tires seven seven seven so two spots higher you said you had cottingham ten my tenth guys jalen suggs out of orlando after what i saw him do in two and a half ish games in the summer league. I'm like okay. That guys that guy is gonna demand minutes whether they wanna give into him or not. He's just gonna play. Everybody get them and he just such a force of nature on both sides..

"Yeah a he. He's on my shirtless too. I think that probably he can get paid somewhere. There's not that much cap space out there. But there's just enough In the mavericks do have gaps based make bad decisions. The the only two names on my list. And then i guess i meant just ask more broad the woods for do we think the celtics need now because i do think a wing a three four hybrid who can take some pressure off of jalen and jason might be nice not a third star too big three but someone who is competent. And perhaps you could get with the exception or a minimum gala. Nari perhaps doesn't really show up in the playoffs but just to show the load in the regular season that might be nice and justice winslow. I i think that's a cool flyer. I think that this is a season to take fliers. So i actually am interested in kristen wardley again. He might be flipped. But i think this is a great season to kind of test things out Presumably back in boston. Why not just switched lineup. Done so those are a Members of nights shopping lists. If if i could alex the number one need for the celtics. This off season is the number one needs in celtics. This off season is a capable bench or fifth starter ball handler Shoot may way evan. For gay specifically but I think that's the biggest role is shock creation playing a game at somebody who can Hit a three off the dribble a gwen. The number one biggest of celtics. I'm mostly agree with it. But i i do feel that. They need to have some pets ability. I am elesse adamant about the need for passive on this than i had been just because we have started to see tatum. Really take on more point forward. Roll if evan forty combat with get that but if he doesn't than someone like lenience junior saying several times in the last several guests about how we also need someone who's kinda more up on the wing of three four hydrogen been talking about is while as ball han while entering in distribution can be the same person that is really who i admire. I think he'd be very good. Fit for that role. Yeah i think probably. I'm an agreement that a ball handler combo guard. And or to help a wing would be cool. I do think that we should have done this at the top and then talk about the name on our list but whenever i think patty mills is really bad. Defense it'd be scraps but he's not very good defense but if you're bringing daca you're trying to build an offense with someone from the spurs and without a traditional quarterback point guard breaking in Experience might be nice even as a bridge. So i don't know if it'll happen. Patty mills and by extension regain would be interesting fence. Just one more made to keep an eye on that. I just bruce's growing through my phone saw report about Breasts ordered the at least somewhat interested in exploring spencer witty as possible acquisition If he if the celtics could get dinwiddie at a reasonable price. Point and keep marcus smart. That would be your back court. And i think that that would be pretty functional..

"Go be minus. Because i do love this. Little man spunk. And his spark in spirit. I love everything about his energy and his charisma. And i love his little floaters and i love his lob passes to capelle up but i don't love how many shots he misses because it is abominable. It is hard to watch after a while. And if you look at the numbers. Chris swept it right under carpet. He did thirty one percent thirty one percent from three. That's forty five of one hundred and forty four. That means that he missed ninety nine three pointers in just sixteen playoff games. It's just wrong. It's hard to overcome it. He did with his spirit and his fine in everything about him. And i love all those things. I everything you said was correct except you omitted the fact that he missed ninety nine three point shots which was second only to pandemic p who missed one hundred one three point shots. But guess what paul. George played three fewer games than trey and look at the overall mrs. They were tied for most mrs through the playoff games. Then trade played three games but they tied in total miss shots at two. Oh nine but again paul. George played seven hundred seventy six minutes to trace six. Oh three so. He just missing like crazy. He's missing at a rate. Nobody in the playoffs was missing it. And it's hard for your team after a while to overcome it. And then we get all the way to the game six at home. And he did. Suck it up tuffy out and he said i'm going to go play but shannon sharpe says if you're out there you have no excuse you get know pass. He shot four of seventeen and oh of six from three. It's just you can't do he. Joel embiid and the number one seed did that happen. When joel deep beat was limping up and down the floor is yeah. I know i saw no live got torn cartilage in his knee and sucked got radio tail. Okay so. I'm sorry. Miss shots giving a b minus. I'll give you all the things that you gave way to go. What about the knicks. The knicks beat them. I have not a lot of his. He is a volume shooter. And i think as if they can add better players i think he will shoot as much in his percentage will go up. I think nate mcmillan. We'll work on that with them but some of that is because he doesn't have anybody else on that team that can really create their own stuff as so yeah bogdonovich gala. Nari college. they can shoot. They can score but usually they need somebody to create it for the right. So he's doing that remember. Alan iverson percentages. Were always low in impart. Because he didn't have other guys that could go do their own thing with him now even when he did he he shot low percentage because he was such a volume shooter. But my point is that we don't have another guy. He doesn't have a devon booker. There or chris paul there or khris middleton there guys that can go create their own stuff so he's percentages could go up because the defense could pays attention to those guys and not just trae young also. Chris is that because he's so small in order for for them to to respect the three. He's gotta take three to make them hug up on him so now he can use his speed to get by. You hit that floater. To throw the a law or guest ball of the backboard. Well if i if. I might shoot three and everybody just go leg back off meeting. Well how can i get to the plane. Okay but don't call in trae as in t. r. e. y. Leong right because he doesn't shoot. Threes lies trae. Yeah t. r. e. y. r. t. r. a. Did you see that man shimmy on the mommy. And he's great for the big highlight he gets he but then he just goes cold. Those hurt you to my jojoy. Be with living down the court but this man he missed two games with a a bone bruise. But you don't want to give greater for that you don't want to say okay. He played well. I said he did but did that. Stop you from making a few more shots than four of seventeen you start doing. Be join the b word hurt. When he had a twenty six point we only got hurt create. What he loves to lead. Notice be debate team li. Nobody mentioned by season about joel. Embiid is about trae. Margai young be being compared to steph curry. And i'm like still kerr compare joel embiid. No i did use better than chef guy in denver for sure. No no go ahead. If you always say the reason you hold the brand is such a high standard. Because you compare new michael jordan. Nobody his of expectations are big part of it. There were no expectations on trae young. None of coming into these play offs so he. He blasted his expectations through the roof. I give him points for that because we didn't expect it. If steph goes out and does with trae does being here. We judging harsh more harshly. Yeah but nobody expected this trae young. Do you expect trae young to be this good right now. What you see right now. Did you expect him to be that when he came out of college. No i'll give you that. But sometimes he's pandemic trae on that. Nobody's just so much for joining us all day. Have a great rest of your days. And the angels. Shohei ohtani just made history becoming the first ever all starch. We selected as a pitcher and a position player. Tani has eight three point six. Era an eighty-three strikeouts in twelve starts. But also leave the majors with thirty one. Home runs the impressive. Two way player will also participate in the homerun derby in addition to the all star game next tuesday box so shannon. Has there ever been a comparable to achievement in the nfl or nba. Probably the greatest comparison will probably be chuck mcnair skip. Who was he was the last time two way player. Roy green i you remember. Roy moore agree with a heck of ruth. Even the hecuba quarterback any transferred over and became a full-time receiver but not not to this level skill. Not to this. I mean forgot to be able to. I mean this is. This is ruthie yet. That's the only thing you can compare it to because ruth was the only guy that could hit for power and with the great pitcher. So that's the only no all star teams the all star team. So no football no dea. Could dion have evaded. Let him play. Full-time offense could have made it. Both i believe he he he probably would have been only the point is could he have been a pro bowl receiver. Maybe but i saw him in one super bowl. Pittsburgh catch remind got hurt. I mean he played in a little bit skip. Yeah but i. I don't know the greatest two way player outside. This one showtime otani to me. Was michael jordan because nine times he made first team all defense while he was winning the scoring title. Well that's that makes him like case closed the greatest forever right. Yeah he did. He won ten scoring titles but nine times. I all defense. So isn't that two way but is it as different as pitching and hitting probably not. That'd be for him to be able to pinch like he does in the hit the ball. I mean these. Jeff would i mean met food. We had the most homers for a native born player. This kid got that at the halfway point now. Some believe you can't jeez. Wave for the game to keep track of the home runs easy and we know that game is not easy. Great stuff today guys. We're back at the same time tomorrow morning. The heard is on now. Great rest of your day..

"Welcome back to the gmc basketball podcast. If you missed the last segment we talked about. The phoenix suns advancing to the finals. Chris paul finally making his finals debut and just all the good things happened in that series. Gave a little shout out to the los angeles clippers as well so if you guys want to check that out please go ahead and do so however now. We're not. We're going to be talking about the eastern conference finals. That is at five games. We got the six game coming up very soon. It's going to be tomorrow actually and i. It's it's been a very exciting series so far. I mean a lot of people would say that this has been the box all the way but men have. The hawks really clawed their way to making this competitive. Because a lot of people coming into the series you know especially with milwaukee taking out brooklyn despite it being like one and a half stars that they had with kyri out and james harden like a thirty percent who knows how like where he was at just didn't look the same but milwaukee is played relatively well throughout this entire playoff run so you know they obviously come into the series as heavy favorites and they get into game one and they lose by three at home. You know the the start of the game was fairly. You know the the way you would have expected. You know milwaukee playing great offensively. What with their with their shooters really playing well. And but the atlanta hawks have the offense to keep up with them. You know the with trae young absolutely balling and he had forty eight points and eleven assists in that game. So i mean that just goes to show you the cut. You know the kind of confidence he has now and you know he absolutely deserves to be on that superstar status. But they go into that half up milwaukee by believers about five points but then atlanta comes right in and just absolutely kills milwaukee in that third quarter scoring thirty four points allowing only twenty six. You know almost that entire team didn't shoe well. They should like shot like thirty five percent from the field in that quarter. Milwaukee did didn't get much help from. John drew holidays. Been kinda shooting poor since. Really the brooklyn series. He just really has not been the same like he looked. Great against miami. But i mean you got. That has a lot to do with the fact that miami has little to no perimeter defense. you know. He's being guarded by like tyler hero. Kendrick nunn goran dragoj. He can do a lot of things there. But now with you know brooklyn now an now atlanta who's got multiple defenders that they can toss his way you know he. It's obviously getting being difficult for him to score on a regular basis but he still had a decent quarter scored ten points But for atlanta trae young and john collins absolutely carried that team that series combining for twenty two points of those thirty four points in the third quarter a fourth quarter was even at twenty eight a piece and with that you get atlanta winning one sixteen to one thirteen and of course that does not happen unless trae young absolutely blows up for forty eight points and eleven assists and seven rebounds. I gotta add. He did get help from a lot of his co stars. Like clint appel really played well nets in that game. Twelve points nineteen rebounds a steal block. Even john collins was getting in on the action with twenty three points and fifteen rebounds. You know not much from the bench but really with what the production you got from there from your starters. You really didn't need much from the bench. So atlanta was able to go through in that game but nobody was really expecting them to carry that into the rest of the series. Milwaukee was eventually going to figure out a way to you know. Stop trae young from doing whatever he wants and for the most part they did a lot of that in game two. I mean they absolutely obliterated. The atlanta hawks one twenty five to ninety one. And you know it goes to show me. It's not surprising that training did not have a good game when it was minus. Twenty nine only fifteen points three assists and nine turnovers. That's not a recipe for success in. It doesn't matter what anybody else does. If you got that from your star player you're not gonna win the game especially when he's like by far your best so you know that. That game was certainly a wakeup call for the atlanta hawks but regardless they went into milwaukee and stole one game. You're the lower seeded team. That's what you're looking to do. You're not trying to sweep them at home. Obviously you know the more the merrier but you can at least get one game in those first two games on the road. You're looking good. But then gained three is pivotal because in all the playoff series in history. Gained three is about as potent as important as it gets. Because you know you're up to one. I think it's like seventy five percent. Where the the winner of gained three ends up winning the entire series so that was obviously huge but then the worst part about it was that trae young picked up an injury and his status for game. Four was up in the air in in the end he didn't end up. Playing john was still there. Chris middleton jrue holiday. Milwaukee had their you know complementary players but atlanta was going in there without trae young so obviously all the you know all the stakes were against them all the odds. Nobody was expecting the hawks to win that game yet. You get twenty one at an efficient twenty one points from lou. Williams twenty from bogdanovich. Fifteen from capella. Fifteen from herder. Twelve from reddish. I mean reddish coming back was huge for them. Adds an extra ball handler. Shock creator for that team. Danilo galleria double digits as well. John collins had a bad game. But you know you got all that from from your starters and you got a bit from your benches well. Okon is has been a very solid off the bench big and for as young as he is. He's been playing decent in those minutes. And you know for for atlanta hawks to go into that game down to one a game that you know you lose game four and you're down three one. There's pretty much no chance. You're getting through this series. This was a huge game. And they absolutely dominated milwaukee throughout the entire game. Milwaukee only won the fourth quarter of all the quarters. They only won the fourth quarter by three points and lost eighty eight to one hundred ten. Just an absolutely incredible showing from the hawks and the one that that i really wanna talk about the most because it really is impressive that that team that was most of those guys were just put together. This season on the atlanta hawks. There was no lou williams. There is no bogdonovich. There is no capella. A cappella was under last season but he was injured. So know really. This is like his first true season with the team no gala nari noel con woo and they come in to a huge game for and pull it out for their star man trae young. Who was not able to play big news for the milwaukee bucks in that game. As jonathan colombo went down with an injury he was playing well up until that point and honestly janice has been playing absolutely out of his mind since the brooklyn series. I mean you can really call all playoffs. The guy has been on an absolute tear. He's been trying to show people that you know like all that trashy were talking about me all all the doubts everyone had on me. You know i. I want to erase that completely. And he has certainly gunning long way to doing that..

"Didn't happen so now we're all not sure if it ever will shoulda coulda woulda. The west keeps growing and getting even more competitive right. Let's go to the other side hawks bucks. This was the quick question legs. And if you wanna go if you want to wax poetic on this now you can should both stars be unavailable. So we're out trae we're out jaanus. Who like and this is such a top. When i got asked this question last night. I honestly i don't hedge ever it's coin. Toss to me. And i would probably give the edge to the bucks because they'd have home court. It's at that point. Two out of three two stars are taken out of the equation and two of those games are going to be in milwaukee. I would favor the bucks ethic. Atlanta has a little bit more deck. I think they've got more athleticism but without trae young out there. I don't know exactly who you could pencil in. Certain numbers for the atlanta hawks. Can you say for a fact that bogdonovich is going to give you twenty to twenty five. Can you say that about gala. Nari or lou williams or john collins. I don't think you can on the other hand. I think you can pencil in twenty five to thirty points for chris. Middleton i think holiday is a guy that is going to be north of twenty i. I'm pretty certain about that. I am not as certain about the atlanta hawks. So yes there deeper the more athletic. But there's a lot of inconsistency there with their offense that would make me say. I feel a little bit safer laying money on the bucks in that situation. If you're honest with trae young don't make another appearance leg. Let me make it too. Simple about money. If you've paid one player one hundred sixty million another player. One hundred seventy seven and a half million. I keep going back to it. Isn't it fair to say it would be a disappointment them for the bucks if they can't with two people they paid so much. Beat a depleted hawks team. In this scenario oh no question about it. That's a different question. Yes absolutely regardless regardless of whether janas plays or not if. You've got a depleted hawks team. But first of all a hawks team that came from nowhere virtually as the season. We're on the minute. Coaching change in the middle of the year and they find themselves in the conference finals. Two wins away from the finals. Think about that. If you've got the sixers taken out for you if you've got the brooklyn nets decimated by injuries and you had to go seven games to eliminate them and now you get a hawks team that is depleted notes. A young. Potentially even a guy like the andre hunter is not available. Who's a starter for them cameras. Just making his way back into the lineup. And regardless whether you be honest or not you need to get through this series and get to the finals and hope hey at some point here. We'll get jaanus back and if that's the case a lot of people would favor the bucks. In that scenario. I just think phoenix has been so impressive and so consistent i would probably still take them. But you're absolutely right. There is no excuses here. They need to get through this team. Particularly of trae young mrs another game or to the box have to close this out. I just want you to know legs. That i've let multiple bosses around here know that i would love to share basketball space with you and talk all of these things through because you're so fantastic added and it's just very impressive. Now stay with this series players. Cool coin toss. Let's go to the guys that are calling the strings on sideline. Which one of these coaches do you give the advantage again. Should we be in a world without the band leaders. You know it's going to. It's going to sound crazy. Because i don't think the milwaukee bucks obviously better team without yatta south of the coupon but here's what i will say. The one doubt. I've had about my boot noser. And he's one of the smartest guys in the game. I always questioned whether or not. He's going to fall into the trap layton games of giving the body on us that the coupon in isolation situation and he's going to get himself in trouble and it's that trap of we have a two time. Mvp this is kind of how team settle things in this league in a one possession game you give it to your best player particularly when he's an mvp and let him go and that's a terrible way for them to decide gate by taking him out of the equation potentially it's actually going to go through middleton or holiday now late that's their best scenario so they want doubt i have about good holzer. I take it off the table. If you're honest doesn't play so that's going to actually help. Good noser in those situations. But i'm going to say overall nate mcmillan. I've always been a nate mcmillan fan. I bet a fan of his as a player as a coach. I love his demeanor. I love his toughness. I love the fact that he gets into guys during time outs. He's not afraid to coach talent by being hard on guys and making them accountable in the moment. A lot of coaches. Don't wanna do that. Nate mills not afraid of that. And these guys obviously respective so. I think actually. I'm going to give the edge to nate mcmillan and i think nate mcmillan has more buttons to push. Because of what. I said earlier. There's no guaranteed twenty. Come in with the rest of these guys. Outside of your. What is he going to push to make that happen. And i a lot of respect for what he's done with this team. "It doesn't exist. He could exist I don't know if this team was built around. What he wants or was built around something completely different. Maybe the youngest ones on twitter a buxton. Apparently he's boxing. I made sure to verify with his other tweets not like past few days for like the past years he said. Mike wound is heavy version of jason garrett in dallas laprairie. He's got nothing you're saying. He got nugget again. Let me tell you why because as much as we say about the clippers. Tidy made the adjustments. Yeah he did and again. Obviously losing zubac was kinda rough but taking a tomb out Removing mike Marcus morris out for the one game and put them to the bench just chef around but In this situation obviously might be. Just you know he's looking through this roster and now you gotta sit there and say who's going to be the guy it has to be. Chris middleton it has to be drawn and most likely gonna bring. Bobby portis up right because tucker tucker's not hitting the the corner three consistently even though he didn't wanna do it in houston. He's still not shooting as well as us to from the corner three so you can't really rely on him to get you know more than eight points. Maybe ten that he gets you. But we're going to have to see more of the old brook lopez in the black. Doing post moves on clean cappella right. We're gonna have to see. Chris middleton take that next step to superstar. That's what we're going to have to see. Or or johnny. Yes what this series. It's over if they can't do that. I think this goes seven without janas. Think so i obviously honest is more important than trae young right of course and i say that because as i just mentioned previously by donna vich score he streaky. But he's a score. We already know a captain. Lewellen give you. I mean he he can do it right lou. Williams can do it camera reddish young player but we know his head agree. And which i think is the all time or i guess. The major factor here is gala. Nari between nari between gallinari. Donna which and.

"Had won a championship. Well i think the biggest difference in the two that i've seen Where they from last year this year is their ability to adjust and time lows willingness to take big chances. That's the big thing i've noticed. He has no problem. Removing someone that has been in the rotation all year from the lineup. because that's what popovich alike because pot will tell you it's about winning this game. It's about winning. This is not about what all year this is. No discredit to you personally. And what you've done all season but wait. They came to win this game and what was done where we say you know what seemed like god that would put buttons. What that means is in. Layman's terms he is making all the right adjustments. That means he's not scared to sit down. Okay for the very good result rondo. I don't like what you're bringing right now. I'm a go reggie jackson even though if you look at it as like may the two time champion and does clay on rondo. That goes around and you're sitting down for a guy that's on the minimum deal but one thing to have respect about lou is. There's willingness the cahoon as to say. Look this is what i do. And i'm sticking with it. 'cause it's about winning theory we've seen milwaukee and and obviously they're closer for. The most part has been. Chris middleton and yannis said after game four or game three. He was fine that some people have tried to make a big deal out of that. Oh janas has to be the man he has to be wanting to close and all that do we make too big of a deal out of closing and who takes the last shot. Nah i mean you play with tim. Duncan and david robinson did you. Is you know this closer thing. Do people make too much out of that. It's not like there's a designated closer on the baseball right by mariana. Barra people make so much about it. Because if you watch milwaukee play the best. Most gifted skilled offense player is. Chris middleton but john is is the to back to back vp big. That's where that's where you know. I it's kind of a back and forth because they thought processes will be the. Mvp how come he's not causing because sometimes because of the mvp doesn't mean the most offensive player to get a shot at five seconds or less. So i think in some talk. That's the thing about milwaukee though janas if the two time. Mvp accolades in his resume. Cachet speak for themselves but they have rotating batman. You can't say that about a lot of teams you know. One day it would be honest as game or talk. Twenty dame's then the next two games because minutes his game and then it'd be drew holiday dates renovated day. That's the benefit of having that fiber. That's why i picked. We're going to win at all because of it has to be great every single game. Because metal me go through holiday could be good popica- brooklyn and waited three guys that you can run through. And yon is. I mean even if it's not his even if he doesn't close during these play offs. I mean you can pencil him in for thirty. Plus and twelve to fifteen boards. I mean that's coming automatically. You know what. I mean whether he closes or not going to win. The game doesn't mean you're gonna win. But i mean those are the numbers. He's putting up. It's ridiculous like he's not listening to a different standard because it's not about the number. How just the number for forty per forty. It's completely different. The way it happens is skilled multiple ways of making any everyone one. I don't wanna say dimensional. But it's it's basically downhill is heading downhill so with john it's not about the stats is about the way he gets those steps that people start to look at sideways right right. They were up ten two and twelve five and fifteen to five. Now it's fifteen to nine. I don't expect this the last year on them right now. No well the other one. They don't have their guy. You know what i mean like is like all right but can they hold can they. Can they keep going. Yeah that is the question it is if they made it an exciting game. I'd be shocked if they could win this game without him. And i'll tell you what it was. Say a heck of a lot. I don't care what kind of effort the hawks put in. i don't care. What kind of coaching job nate mcmillan puts in. If the milwaukee bucks lose this game rob issues unforgivable. So wait a minute so wait a minute stop you. So what do you say to mani williams and the sun yesterday. Did you feel the same way or no. I'm just asking the clippers. Still got paul. Only i'm asking him. He's arguably the best player in the series. Okay yeah i mean they they they got they got a star. They always do not have a star. Did you think that the win last night. Yeah but i knew. This was a clo- american. I mean i this is to me. It's totally different. Paul george and the clippers are totally different than the atlanta hawks. Without trae young. Who's their guy john collins. I like junk underrated players in the league. But i'm not putting him. He's not paul. George bogdonovich gala. Nari nice team but nice to meet as a different image. I actually thought route that the clippers had a good chance to win this series with that going in. I mean i pick phoenix in seven. You pick a seven game series. You obviously feel like he could could go either way right. Right wouldn't be surprised if the clippers win. I think phoenix.

"To get on and need to fix and that is this trae. Young is now doing it. Within a system trae young is not thus system. he's not over dribbling. He's not over dominating. The ball john college bogdonovich gala. Nari shooter capella art. He's got they feel involved. They don't feel like oh trays. Doing everything trey got to create every shot for me. Trade creates his own offense off. No they're involved. Yes he's the best player. Yes he's the key. He had seized orchestrator of the offense and the system but it is five man basketball and that is easier to win. Championships play a five-man basketball. That's why golden state ran and was graded in some of its parts even before it got kevin durant that's why san antonio was always very good even as duncan got older because they played team basketball and trey was saying it's trades fought because that's the way kids grow up today plan kinda one but under lloyd pierce trey was doing the same thing as luca and players were getting bother john collins and trae win added earlier you remember. That and nate mcmillan came in and said we gotta play a system. We gotta get everybody of trays. Three point attempts went down. His field goal attempts went down and his scoring actually went down. But he's still giving you twenty five and that is one major difference in dallas. Man is all luca all the time. And he's great but he's creating everything and the thing is it's harder to bring in another star let alone superstar to play next to a guy who does everything so now in atlanta. If you bring in a superstar who got mad game himself he gets fit in now and play with trae. If you bring a superstar who got stuff off the bounce who could create his own shot who can create further people right now in dallas he to be a little frustrated playing with luca luca greats everything for himself for everybody else. You already here. Christopher zing complaining. I was good enough to complain. But he's complaining so. I don't blame luca i'm saying rick carlisle. Maybe we know he's not there anymore. Maybe felt pressured that he got to do whatever luca wants to do and he lets him do it. And then they have. Bob arias saying this is how we should play. They need to get a coaching there. That's gonna fit luca into a system where other dues can do their thing to lucas. Gonna be the best. He's gonna be the man. But you gotta fit other cats in there too if you wanna win championships or at least have a better chance to win championships. So that's a big thing for me. I'm with you if i'm atlanta. I'm good. I'm overjoyed with that trait but if you put a gun to my head i still slightly would take luca over trade. What would you take trae. I would definitely take trey and my my knock against luca out. And i only have one. He cries too much for me cry. I no no no. No no no no no. Everybody just complains and talks to the ref. After every whistle. That i get but lucas it af- it starts to affect his game. It starts affect his body language and emotion. And when you are leader at anything in life when you and i are fathers you and i have children you. You can't let your child know what's going on all the time to your body language because they're going to follow that. It's the same as a as a player on a team when you're the leader you at a team captain. And you're a franchise guy you've got to have. That's what i say about embiid. Embiid can't be my number one dude because he's just he's too emotional for me. His body bodies language is it. It sucks unle-. Yes it's horrible. You can't be my. You can't be my leader. You just gotta fix rugs down. Yeah but it's the same luca. Luca gis his body language. You can't be my leader with that body. Language trays getting trays get kind of played. Tough trade gets fell along he gets. He gets fellow last night. Where he i don't think ports did it on purpose but he didn't try to try to put his hand down and not follow on his ribs. You know i'm fallen. Not fallen har brom. Just portray kind of lake gets up. Kinda rubs shrugs at all smirks. Your team sees that your teammates that man and they feed off of that and that's those intangibles. We talked about luca. You already say you took the words right out of my out of my mouth. You already got porzingis of say. You're pausing stories coming out. He's not happy with this and that and now you know carlisle. He didn't get fired just said the storyline was. They couldn't come to terms on. No i'd be carlisle like you said. Look i kind of from the old school and this is a players league and that's my one of my knocks on the nba's that players lead author players. The players legal. Yeah and that's why you see coaches walking away or coaches getting fired because all the players got to do all luca lebron or ad all these guys gotta do is just go to owners go. I don't like that guy that's it. That's not new member. Maj i understand. But he at magic johnson and and we'll magic's really the only one that i think back in that time that had that power was known as yeah. Yeah j. j. kid but it feels. It is way more prevalent yet. So but no i'm taking. I'm taking tray and trays one playoff series. I mean playoff series. Luca one so far will be easier in east. But i hear you all. I mean you know. He had to go through the clippers twice. It true true offer. He he wasn't going through julius randle. Rj period. I can we agree on that day. I can totally agree on that. It's a recipe and the claw to go. Let's just say i agree with you. Pick the nixon says there. I got picnics and seven. And so i did a a lot of the seven. Eight seven seven ninety nine or fox. Eight seven seven nine. I six sixty three sixty nine. You'll turn away in. Has trae young play in these playoffs. Validated the hawks decision to trade away luca on draft night. "They were outscored by five in seven minutes there. But that wasn't that wasn't the margin in the same way that it was before and part of that was. I thought not perfect minutes. But i thought hooligan helped helped out and the staggering of embiid shifting. His minutes around created some truly weird offensive collections for the sixers and there were points when they got a couple stops that they were able to get offense and transition but simmons and howard being out there together and ivy. There was one time where tobias harris tried to do a drive and he actually got a little bit of separation but then he couldn't get anywhere because we're already four guys standing in the paint. Yeah it was definitely difficult. Be neither team. Could hit anything from in the fact honestly. The hawks probably should have won the series by more in the end. Like i felt like they should have one game six They should have won game. Four by more And like they shot the three ball terribly in the series for what's essentially a good three point shooting team and bogdonovich was basically a shell by the end. Obviously they didn't even have one hundred begin with embiid. I mean. I think we can kinda shift to just it will. Obviously we got plenty of time before wednesday to talk about hawks. Box by the way your Championship favourite milwaukee bucks by the way even more so now maybe than they were after last night or the. I certainly think that the sons would give them a very good story and could win that but embiid the injury. I think definitely hurt. You know we didn't get to see him. Go against a real defense in this blouse. The hawks found ways and capella. It got better as the series went along. But you can say it was the injury which obviously is part of the whole calculation with joel embiid as well as you try to think about how good he is and you know this game. He was thirty one points. Eleven twenty one seven to ten from the foul line but he had a turnovers and so he wasn't really able whether it's the injury or just the nature of being a senator and having to play as many minutes as he has to and wearing down or maybe not being still in the greatest condition of that he ultimately didn't do enough in this series and yes he wasn't the worst culprit. He wasn't playing that far below norms. But for this sixers team to be a championship contender. He had to play like the best player in basketball. Like he. kinda dead during the regular season and unimpeded unambiguously the best part in the series and embiid was that but then the other times that he was not and for embiid like there there were significant moments in this game where he is his room. Deterrence was was a real thing and that atlano work taking. They weren't taking their shots spook them. Sometimes even when embiid was not there but then there were at the beginning of the third quarter trae was able to generate. Looks not for himself but by getting and this isn't entirely mb tall some of it is the separation that trae young was getting but he was able to draw 'em being away a little bit and then they were able to get baskets at In for example in the third quarter six of seven for atlanta they're inequality where they couldn't make three. They were over four from long distance. And so i'm not saying like is the reason that that all that stuff happened but he wasn't able to prevent it. The hawks figured out a couple of little tricks that it's you you exploited and that's also something we've talked about in terms of the limitations of a rim protector of central defense and so embiid had his dominant moments. And in this game. I you know he there were there. Were points where it's like. Oh they don't really have much stop in my thought it especially in the very early going and beads offense which really good and he was getting all the shots on cappella but overall in the second half and got fouled a few times but three shots in the paint six midrangers four threes and he shot well on those. But you could see that. He wasn't that that's what he wanted. And that's what you would ever going crazy on the live. Show where like capello's conceded a couple of the shots and then when gala nari nari did concede it but then embiid didn't take it. Get the steel that changes the game and gallo probably needs to get some more credible. I thought his first quarter. Or maybe like you know probably. Has i five six minutes. That he was in was just atrocious. Defensively at a bunch of places. We didn't know who he had. He was not closing out on guys away. Needed to use getting blown by. Add a couple of just atrocious. Mrs on jumpers early but then after that he hit six of eleven three of seven from three he was able to get just enough ice work on george hill to just give them a couple of points. It wasn't it wasn't like oh man that we're going to run the offense through him all the time but just with trae out of the game just to get a couple of buckets there. I mean in a game where. Every bucket counted also nate mcmillan. I thought coached a pretty good game. This time he learned. I think from leaving trae young on the bench too long in the fourth quarter game six went back to him after affiliate went on a run for you know really i think it was only a minute and a half or so that trait rusted. He played forty three minutes. Which is probably the most he realistically could have. Played a in this game seven. So i thought he managed he managed mcdonagh bitch wall. Got him just a couple of minutes. They needed someone to just eat. Those innings played a little defense tobias harris to start the game. But also you know didn't fall in love with them. Went with gallo at the three. Just going to gallo at the three at all in this series rather than solomon hill or tony snell. Both of whom didn't play while. Obviously but you know he got to that really by game three. That was the way he went to play. Gallo three and against this particular team. That was able to work out. So i thought i don't. I wouldn't say that. Like doc rivers coached a bad series in this game. You know people talk pointed to some collapses like game five south but That he should have done more. But i think it's again if you had to put it on the coach or the limitations of the roster. I i'm putting it on the limitations of the roster i well. That's a good transition into ben simmons and we could start with the staff that tom average show tweeted out. That ben simmons took three field goals in the attempts in the fourth quarter of this entire series and that was to in game one which he made and one in game three no shots from the field in four five six seven. And i thought what are the most telling moments of this entire hall man. This was atrocious. Was when simmons got it was with gallinari. Gallon goes for what you. And i had a little bit different theories on it but i thought it was galadari. Basically saying okay. I'm going to swipe for the steel. And if i don't get steel i'm going to and i don't care instead. Neither of those happens. Simmons has a wide open dunks. Closest guy to him is trae. Young and simmons doesn't go up for the dunk doesn't try anything. He just dumps it off to takaiser. I wanna say was actually write. It wasn't able that's true. It's not even it's like a great i mean the esa. He's got it. He been position at dunkin. Who's right in the remedy certainly could have just laid it in and he sees trae coming over. Who's just going to go for a stripper. something probably would have just fouled him but he was terrified. He just didn't want to go up. He didn't wanna get fouled. I think he is always loathed to put thoughts in other people's heads when we talk about this but you can't conclude anything else in that situation and he had a number of hot potato plays every once in a while you'd see him try and push it and but because you're as as his teammate if he's just going to stand along the baseline old on i did have the thirteen assists but most that was just starting the offense quote unquote starting the offense with like a hand off to curry. Who would then go into a pick and roll her hand off with embiid and then kind of getting out of the way or decent in transition but him actually attacking to try and put the basketball in the basket. The point of basketball was so few and far between and then every once in a while we do it but like his teammates aren't prepared for him to do that. Like you got to have an understanding of what your teammates normally do in a situation so when he did attack you know..

joel embiid tony snell nate mcmillan ben simmons seven minutes embiid five second half ten solomon hill thirteen assists forty three minutes Simmons bogdonovich thirty one points Four six minutes eleven four guys a minute and a half

NBA Storylines Down the Stretch

"Doris Burke is an NBA analyst for ESPN so doors the All star break is over and NBA. Games are back. We wanted to talk to you. About what surprised you so far this season. And how you see the last couple of months shaping up as we enter the homestretch before the playoffs. Let's start in the East right where there is an unequivocal number. One team in Milwaukee they have the best record in the NBA and they are destroying teams winning by an average margin of victory of more than twelve points per game now of the eleven teams that have had a double digit margin of victory over the course of a season. Eight have gone on to win it. All Doris. Is there something that stands between Milwaukee and the NBA Finals? Yeah this is a great question. So in their eight losses the one thread that is consistent throughout those are teams are averaging sixteen point nine threes and philosophically. Their priority is protect. The paint. First and foremost they are so elite. At that that we have not seen this kind of rim protection in the modern NBA. With the possible exception of Spurs team that had both Tim Duncan and David Robinson but the fact of the matter if a team gets hot and really can create shot opportunities then. I think that they can be beat. The other thing that happens is your and you saw in the All Star game. Jaanus is the first player to go twenty five and eleven back to back all star Games but he was over to note points in the fourth quarter because they did playoff teams. We'll do they set up a wall and they said somebody else is going to beat us so well. No one's really doubting the bucks at this point. I think there is still a lot of skepticism about the number two seed in the east the Toronto Raptors. I mean after losing finals. Mvp Kawhi Leonard. They were not seen as favorites coming into this year yet. They have the same record right now that they had at this point last season doors one hand the raptors have been under five hundred against winning teams but on the other they had a lot of. Are we underestimating them? While I'm definitely giving them punchers chance to get to the Eastern Conference finals and a punchers chance to come out in the past historically particularly when Demar Derozan Kyle lowry. Were on the team together. What we knew was they understood how to win in the regular season but they're always seemed to be this level of doubt in their minds when the calendar turn to April but the fact of the matter is. They changed that a year ago with championship. There is a different feel a different presents a different countenance about the entire group and yes unequivocally the record versus plus five hundred versus minus five hundred is concerning but let's remember that their top six guys including Serge Ibaka. Who's having the Best Year of his career? Kyle lowry Markelle Saul Fred Van Bleed. Norman Powell Pascal them. All six of those guys have missed at least ten games so I don't know that we have the clearest picture the other thing working in their favors they have one of the best coaches in the league. Nick nurse wears that head coaches mantle with ease. Why because he's been calling the shots for the vast majority of his career. In any number of circumstances his creative he's fearless. He's a little bit irreverent. And I'm telling you mean ah I give them a punchers chance to get to an east finals and a punchers chance to get out. Did you see this coming at all? Doors not even close and this is the question really ultimately. Do they have enough offense in what you're seeing is to me. What appears to be this grooming of Pascal? Ceac him of all right. You gotta go get your own in those minutes and a playoff circumstance where you don't care whether it's a mid range to a fall away jump shot a jump shot under duress of excellent defense. What matters is I need to put the ball in the basket right now because this game is teetering on our control or there's and we've got to have one and you're watching Pascal. Can he deliver in the postseason? He's been excellent in the regular season. I can't wait to see a play out. I think it feels right now. Like you've got the bucks in a tier of their own and then you've got the raptors celtics heat kind of swirling around each other. There was a feeling ahead of the trade deadline that the heat could vault to that number. Two spot perhaps even contend with the bucks if they really went all in and added Gala Nari. They didn't they did add Igwe Dolla. Do you think that's enough? You know the the last prism through which I saw. Andre Gonzala was a man who was battling an Achilles in the playoff series and seemed to be showing the signs of some age. But what I know. Unequivocally is this man from a basketball intellect standpoint. According to Kerr is one of the smartest in the history of the League. He has got championship. Dna He's got positional versatility on the defensive end that basketball intellect and the ability to process information quickly and to do it under the spotlight of the playoffs. He has all of that. I'm anxious to see how he changes the dynamic the Miami Heat. You know this. They're going to play hard defensively every single night. They're going to mix in one of the most effective zones we see in today's NBA and Eric's bolster is outstanding coach. So right now sitting in that fourth spot how far Jimmy Butler can take them. That'll be interesting. Those young guys. Right Duncan Robinson Tyler Hero Kendrick Nunn all those guys who have performed so well in the regular season when the calendar switches. Can you win with them? Let's see

NBA Milwaukee Raptors Doris Burke League Toronto Raptors Kyle Lowry Pascal Serge Ibaka Duncan Robinson Jimmy Butler Norman Powell Kyle Lowry Markelle Spurs Espn Kawhi Leonard Tim Duncan Analyst Gala Nari
