UFC Fight Night: Derrick Lewis demolishes Curtis Blaydes

"Let's go right into this thing. Let us discuss the heavyweight division in the ufc because it was on full display last week. It'll be on display this weekend as well and next month with the title on the line but let's focus on ufc vegas nineteen and derek lewis's incredible ferocious and absolutely vicious knockout of curtis blades. In the main event after a really strong opening round from curtis blades lewis delivers one of the nastiest knockout. You will ever see in the second round coming through with the biggest main event upset in the. Us's michael bisbee became. The ufc middleweight champion. A you have c. One ninety nine knocking out. Luke rocco network going to begin with you kind sir. Nice and easy your reaction to a massive win for derek lewis less than a week ago surprise. Surprise i guess is where i would start out. I picked curtis blades. I thought he would be able to at least take down. Derek lewis enough to win the fight and lo and behold. He didn't take him down at all. So that was probably actually the biggest surprise about the fight What wasn't surprising. That derek lewis after being down in the first round after losing that second round blades was doing really well on the feet. And then derek lewis just did what they're glues does. Big are uppercut. Is the fight so relatively shocking shocking result in the sense that derek one. I was fairly confident that blades. Who get it done. But not so not so surprising that derek lewis got another highlight reel nocco assay. We kind of got your instant reaction after the fight on saturday on the post by now you've talked about on the side but now they've had some time to let it all sink in and spoken about it on on different platforms. How big was this win. For derek lewis in the in the grand scheme of things that heavyweight. I mean anytime you win in the top five especially when the heavyweight title is only is within less than a month of your big victory. It's a big thing. I just think. Derek lewis is one of those fighters that he said it himself like the title is great but he's fighting for that paycheck. You got the bonus. You got bulbs paychecks. He's back taxes. Which is obviously still reeling from the massive blizzard. So i'm sure he's going to do great things with that. We saw what he did when the hurricane happened. Driving around saving people so For a normal fighter getting this big win on a big platform so close to not just the title fight probably another a contender fight with jazzy. No rose straight and cyril gone. They're going to be like. Oh this is great for my career. I'm looking at it from the perspective of derek. Lewis wear awesome. I got both of my paychecks and fifty thousand dollars more so yeah massive night for the black beast again. Prize fighters derek lewis through to be one of the most reliable prize fighters on the ufc roster. So yeah ten attempt forms across the board from the heavyweight contender to sort of build upon that jose. Is it time to look at derek. Lewis is not just a fun prizefighter but a serious threat to the title. It's not like he wasn't before but people always view. Derek is this you know fun. Follow on social media this hilarious guy this quote machine who can land knock on at any point of a fight as watch the sport at all outside of his fight weeks doesn't really care about titles but it seems like he's putting together now i know he's added some pieces to his team. You saw lauren. Murphy's husband joe in his corner who's excellent jujitsu coach in practitioner. His own right time to stop looking. Derek lewis as the funny guy with the with the best social media. Game outside of darren taylor. Moore is a legit threat to st bay francis and gado john jones. Whoever is in this division. I would say derek lewis has already the best twitter follow third. Darren tools jason lewis at this point. Because derek lewis is winning fighting and being funny darren till is only doing one of those things. So i i would say derek lows. Of course you have been taken seriously if he touches your jaw you have to take him seriously because you're probably not going to remember when after the referee pulls him off of you so i don't know the answer to this because we haven't seen we don't know we don't know that's like saying oh francis in who is putting together all of these this team to make him a complete fire. All of his fights are like less than two minutes long. So we just don't know for all we know. Derek lewis is the best gogo planet practitioner. It all of the ufc. We're just never going to see it because at the second touches you you die. So if you fight someone like steep bay That is obviously a master game. Planner i think that's better. That's that'll be a better gauge of derek. lewis skills. because we've seen him fight dan mccormick. Who is the definition of a complete mixed martial arts and that wasn't a great night for derek lewis. Yes he took that on like Real short notice to only a month after he got that beatdown he did win. Let's not forget volkov. Put it on their clothes until again. Derek lewis touched his jaw and killed a man on live television. So yeah i don't know. Tb all say. I know that's a cop out. But i don't think anyone knows i think everyone will agree with.

20 Minutes About Traditional Chinese Medicine

"Welcome back to twenty minutes fitness. I'm Kessler and you're listening to your favorite podcast for health and fitness science and technology. Today we're airing the second part of my conversation with Dr Marcus Gado, a leading Chinese medicine practitioner from Europe who spend close to a decade in China learning the ancient Art of traditional Chinese medicine also referred to as. If, you haven't listened to last week's part one of our conversation. You May WanNa poss here and listen to it first so that you can learn about his background and what he believes, he can teach us about our own emotional wellbeing and healthy nutrition in today's podcast who we will continue the conversation and cover how. Six to guide how we should exercise sleep and even have sex. Yes. Heard correctly the how and when of sex also plays a role of healthy living in ancient Chinese wisdom. So beware that today's episode is pg rated because of that disclaimer why Chinese medicine has been around for thousands of years? It is really just at the cusp of being scientifically looked at an understood it is usually fascinating topics we. Wanted to share with you, it is hard not medical advice by any means nor endorsement of the scientific validity or efficiency of any of its practices or interventions. Having said that we do try to stick to only the things that have already been backed up by signs, and you can find a full list of studies and Research Without show notes on twenty minute dot fitness. All right. Let's have at it. Or let's move on to to sleep I. Think the third tip is get plenty again seasonal steep was is that mean? Yeah. If you look at animals, they're way more Richard Eight. Some analysts even hibernate in summer and social we we shouldn't be sleeping the same amount of hours throughout the whole year and well, it's good general of funding to get at least eight hours of sleep in the wintertime nine or ten hours is fine and in the summertime if you're feeling really energetic seven or six and a half if you're feeling great is actually not the bad for you and but the Chinese say that. Especially, the early Stephen in modern sleep research confirms this that early steep, sexy, more beneficial because you're getting a lot more autographs wrong excreted in the hours roughly before midnight and so the Chinese advocates between nine thirty and ten thirty, and then of course, old biohacking stuff you know keeping blue light our heading your house of very dim lights getting you really into this calm evening mode and have no ben at a TV and don't eat obviously before you go to directly before you're gonna go to bed and instead off the Chinese medicine advocates to have some green team your cup of tea because it's so. Call me you down activating the Perez pathetic nervous system. It's advocating for a bit of movement no meditation before you go to bed or even even taking a hot foot. That's a great little trick that you can fall asleep or joystick colts he keeps you up take a hot foot and research has shown that down hot foot actually heading the black by heading this hot water your feet. It increases the circulation periphery in your feet which saw in our regulatory process lowers the corporate body temperature, and we'll have a lower temperature it signals to the brain. Time and so these are some little tricks that the Chinese advocates and in another great one is actually funded fool study here Naski and others in two thousand seven they had two hundred thousand subjects in Greece against epidemiology but again, food for thought day found a thirty seven percent reduction in cardiovascular disease of people who regularly had a Siesta who took a little nap at night thing that study was quoted in a wide receiver is really interesting book I that everyone should read yeah. That's the guy from UC Berkeley, Matthew Walker that's right So So yeah a lot of these these things that they that they already figured out and keep the probation is a big one, right Here's another statistics who has National Health Center for statistics in nineteen sixty, two percent of American slept less than six hours while in two thousand four, it was already thirty percent. So generally speaking we're not sleeping enough. So wildly you WanNa just your sleep in obviously the day is longer than summer so you could also stay up a little bit longer but the country in the wintertime you shouldn't feel bad on your cells you need nine or ten hours of sleep a really give your buddy that go with the season skull was the dynamic of nature and let your body hibernate Chinese proverb says no losing a night of sleep as followed by ten days of inconvenience. Never never sacrifice after sacrifice sleep and sleep a little bit more in winter, and then you can stay up longer and have more energy into following summer. Again, let's just quickly touch on the fourth a little hit or tip to stay healthy in twenty twenty I picked this one because I think it's contrary to what we believe in the West and does the about exercise movement excise the Chinese things that moderation here again is key. So we shouldn't be doing chronic cardio over having really high pulse rate on training for ultramarathons but instead we should go on strolls and walks and we should exercise buddy while the do it in short intervals and with a high intensity. High intensity interval training or just even intensity training where we doing body weight exercise in keeping a muscle mass obstacles casino the Muscles Pretty, much ski organ of Longevity. You can draw a line of lean body mass versus fat mass and an pretty much. It's with old people get and it gets difficult at your old to build and maintain muscle story you WANNA regularly. Exercise. Your buddy but you don't WanNa chill your body lacked we like to do in the West aware that where it is even for a lot of people, it ends up being addiction like an exercise addiction but

Best of The Herd: Andrew Luck

"Then you go to Andrew luck and the colts. I wanna talk about Andrew luck. I'm I luck is the best quarterback. I've seen out of college. Since like, John Elway that doesn't mean he's going to be end up. The best depends on the support system the coach and all that talk to my audience about because because obviously Andrew luck you one. Of the better players took a roster a rebuilt roster with a battle line and no running game to the AFC championship. What separates luck his humility. I think he's one of those guys when you look at him. He's Andrew luck. Like, he he should be put on a pedestal. But that's not that's so far from the truth with Andrew he does not want to be treated any better than the last guy on the Ross now thank that. Humility piece is what draws everyone to his attention. And aside from that. I mean, he's a heck of a talent as you mentioned. He he has all the twos cerebral ability. I think he's his likeability is just through the roof the one area that I think Andrew has taken a step for this past is being able to adapt his game. You know early on. It was less dropback five seven, oh I wanted to notable deep all the time. And you know, we saw where Gat him he didn't he weren't able to finish some season. So I think he's matured in that level. And I think as some point Andrews gotta take about a horse and star raising his voice. Thank you. I this is my knock on Andrew. He always takes the blame. He is. He is almost to a fault. It's almost false humility. Yes, it is. Okay. Sometimes to call a guy out. So I was there for three years, and I never seen him scream at anyone for given up a sack dropping a catch. I get it. But all it takes is one time. You're not to do it all the time because Chokwe Gado he he didn't want coach. He wanted coaches to coach not just scream and holler. And do all that stuff is because sometimes it doesn't work Andrew's case all it takes is one time by Brady barks about twice a year. Oh, I've played against Brady and Brady will give it to the refs the offensive tackle the running back. The deepest guy. He screaming at everyone when it calls for it. And I think Andrew when he can it's not who he is. You know? So if you understand if Chris Ballard understands that's not who he is you go you go out and get offense Allama who can be Andrews kind of alter ego, and you go solve the

"Talking tech is brought to you by wicks dot com with wicks you can use artificial design intelligence to create a stunning website right from your phone in five minutes or less. Just go to wicks dot com. That's W I X dot com and create your professional website today. I'm Jefferson Graham with USA today, and you are listening to talking tech where today I answer some of the many questions that pop up at this time of year, the usually deal with new products, and what folks would like to buy Ahmet national holiday that. We call black Friday now for starters Marianna wanted to know what she could get a good deal on. Well, of course that depends on what she's interested in buying the most popular categories are televisions. Video game consoles and games. Insta- pots and robot vacuums so expect to find the best deals there. If you've thought about buying a smart speaker, Amazon and Google will make it worth your while with good discounts. And nothing beats the doorbusters my favorite as I noted. The other day is the Toshiba four case MARTINI. The that I paid three hundred dollars for an August. Now, just one hundred twenty five dollars at best buy on Thursday and Friday, however. The stuff. I'm seeing in the ads for twenty five to fifty dollars off nothing that gets me that excited. Okay. Now to a question from my friend Ed who wants to buy Qatar and learn how to play will any cheap guitar do he asks? No, no, no. And I'm not telling add to buy a thousand dollar guitar or even a five hundred dollar one. But if he's just learning to play his fingers have to get used to touching the strings, cheap steel string guitars have really bad action. And we'll produce lots of calluses and blisters on your fingers, and they will hurt the ideas that we want you to pick the guitar up. Not leave it in the corner. So for that reason may I recommend nice Spanish style nylon string guitar. They play easier sound better to Myers anyway. And you could get a good decent model for about two hundred dollars. Or so next up Kevin wants to know about how to digitize his old high eight millimeter tapes, good question. And one that I have worked through. Now, there's the slow methodical DIY way or the easy expensive way. Now for the kids in the audience who don't know that we didn't always shoot video on phones. But actually once used video cameras those were with tapes and once upon a time a high eight millimeter model was type of camera that was popular in the nineteen eighties. Sa- Kevin I suggest you buy yourself a used high millimeter camera on EBay, you shouldn't have to spend more than one hundred and fifty bucks. And from that, you'll need adaptor to bring the camcorder footage into the computers. Even copy it a company named Al Gado sells one Amazon for Ron eighty bucks. That's the one that I bought when I did the transferring I also went for the easy but more expensive way by reaching out to a company to do it. I had my tapes copied the I'm memories dot com. And they did a great job. Finally alley says she wants to have. Her old photo scanned, but they date back to the nine thousand nine hundred and their fragile. What's my recommendation, well Allie I wouldn't mail them to memories. I would look for professional restoration artists in the neighborhood or find a local photographer who would agree to come over. And photograph them for you. I just wouldn't trust putting them in the mail. Hey, we love getting your questions here on talking tech. These keep them coming look for the Twitter. And then I respond oh Cooper Cup. And he says on boarding a plane. I'll wait till you land, and you can figure it out. So I let my buddy get on a plane from Phoenix flying back to San Francisco with no idea what happened. And we hope Cooper Cup. I really liked to receiver cut of a diet. Adam feeling good call the white. You the catch falls in the slot. Amendola tied. Wide receiver here. Ed, McCaffrey, something like that. Now, Ed McCaffrey fallout easy, soak his son. I know because I faced him any killed me. Like you said one catch for fifteen not a good game. My honorable mention buffet, we don't need the Busta rhymes. But if you know, and it's not necessarily his ballpit only. Two catches for nineteen yards per golden Tate. There's so many mouths to feed their instability, and I just feel like for golden. Eight. Well, he was a number one in the similar move that they did last. Remember, they went out, and they got J J to kind of add to their backfield's. He wasn't. He wasn't like a huge impact player immediately. Once they became part of the passing game. And then he was a major factor for the playoff run. So I thought that was great. But you're right. If you're a building owner, you're you're my playoffs started week thirteen. All right. What you got Busta rhymes? All right. I got my BUSTER here. We're going to go back to Soldier Field. Mantis Chicago a guy who I thought was finally coming on strong. Did not happen. Eleven carries. Twenty one yard. You. Slaughtered them in thinking he was going to be in the end zone. This offense was flying. Not so fast. Jordan Howard, pasta scandalous. I mean, they won the game. But I'm telling you those missed kicks those miss the game was basically on ice at the half. But you just you had an ominous feeling, and you know, the the the lions actually scored couple of tells in the fourth quarter. So that made this game look a lot closer than it really was. But damn man they ended up going for two touchdown in third quarter. Focus had about enough of Cody party the one day. That's the sprats. He's a busted this week. Cody. Yeah. Any parking there? I don't care if you had him or not do your do the kicker thing. Like, I get the snap. A lot of stuff has to go. Ryan, I get there's the turf problem kicker one damn job. "Two hundred seventy two three hundred days of training for eighteen games now that's not a lot of time to really sure would you you're doing uh and i think it's very similar think being a doctor is such a tremendous responsibility and so the responsibility specifically or one to s the medical knowledge keeping up with it is changing so fast if you keep your head in the sam it becomes obsolete quickly hoon to the patient responsibilities and realizing your patients are more than just their medical condition and so if you want to treat them enough to treat everything that comes with them and people are messy now we don't come clean packaged and everything just seems to be in place the reason why people come to see us his because in some way shape or form their lives of broken and it could be maybe just a little bit maybe could be a whole lot and we've been tasked with this amazing responsibility to try to put it back together and that's why nothing doctors or somewhat respected in society but that comes with a huge responsibility because you're responsible for some of his life so same khan really wants his journey to come full circle and he wants to go back to nigeria to help the people there they don't have the details completely figured out but as soon as this january they're going to spend a month in nigeria same khan was able to receive a grant that was approved by his superior dr anna style and so that's definitely in their short term plans and their longterm plans because he feels like he has been so blessed with the opportunities that he's been given that is his duty to pay it forward and to help the people of his native country of of nigeria.

"You could make a career out of the game of football and he said that it wasn't until he actually played with the packers and started it was his first true start on november 13th in two thousand five and that was his birthday no less he scored three touchdowns against the falcons and then and only then did he believe that he could make a career out of football michelle that was actually my first year covering the green bay packers and i remember sam con being this like colt favorite because at the time people were aware of his dreams of one day being a doctor and that his life had kind of taken this unusual turn where he found himself in the nfl and and as we mentioned no less taking handoffs from one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time breath far and i remember what you just said about him which was his eyes were big the entire time as though at any moment he might wake up from this dream that was happening around him and he will be back you know on this road to medical school but instead he was surrounded by these professional football players and you know running the ball at historic lambeau field and i think that was one of the reasons why people really took to him in a hurry she aided his story i remember that game against i think it was the detroit lions when he had a hundred and seventy one yards yet a very memorable play in that game what happened was in green bay fourthquarter game was tied at thirteen with 707 remaining the lions have the packers pen just a few inches from their end so far of a hand of the ball after gato who had no shot at all at getting out of the end zone so as he's being tackled he pitch of the ball forward which was recovered by teammate of has just outside of the end zone and it was initially ruled intentional grounding for a safety and that it was eventually ruled an incomplete pass but it involved quite a bit of chatter and discussion by the referees and hear it take a listen here's what gotta told me about that play.
