Funerals held for women and children killed in Mexico ambush

"Funerals have begun for the nine American women and children killed in an ambush in Mexico about seventy miles south of the Arizona border Mexican government officials now believe the killers who opened fire on the families belong to lie Lena part of the plot is drug cartel shot down on it from the top we were they say the attackers entered the territory of the rival Sinaloa cartel Sunday near LaMotta where the extended live parent family lived all members of a breakaway group once associated with the Mormon church local police have been on high alert ever since the two cartels engaged in a gunbattle early Monday morning Mexican authorities believe the gunmen opened fire on the family's three S. U. V.'s hours later first mistaking them for cartel members and family members including Max LeBaron see the group was targeted there's no reason there's no logical reason behind the other than the fact that they're just terrorist organizations they point out that children traveling with twenty nine year old Christina Lange for Johnson say she raised her arms to show she was not a threat she got out of the vehicle she right to try to identify those women and children there and she got gunned down Mexican officials say the first S. U. V. was hit by bullets and explode around nine AM Monday two hours later the other two suburbans were ambushed about eleven miles down the road after that shooting all relative says thirteen year old Devon Lankford hit his siblings and bushes and went for help about six hours later he arrived in la Motta fourteen miles away and alerted family members his uncles were forced to wait for army reinforcements to arrive before they could set out to find the children in total eight children were rescued three are still recovering in an era zona hospital the Mexican president says he is open to the U. S. working alongside local authorities in this investigation and what will work as CBS news see that what is Mexico our Steve Futterman ease into son Steve is to sell the closest city with the medical facilities these kids needed or or was there a rush just to get them to the US well I think a bit of both Steve of that they have a an excellent medical facility here in fact the place where the the children were being treated as the same hospital that essentially save the life of congresswoman Gabby Giffords a few years ago can you explain a little bit more about the community these folks are from in Mexico and then their ties to the Mormons in the US well in the eighteen hundreds these were people who decided to leave Utah because when you talk became a state part of the agreement was that polygamy would be declared illegal uneasily the people who went to these northern Mexico enclaves if you will were people who wanted to continue the practice of polygamy it's it's a bit unclear do some people who are in these enclaves today still practice polygamy perhaps yes but if it is going on it's it's very few people most of the people here have basically traditional marriages but it's a very close tight knit area we always get a sense that the people who live in these areas preferred to be below the radar if you will they don't really like outsiders coming in that much but they have gone back and forth into the U. S. back in Mexico many of the people who live on these enclaves go back and forth many times throughout the year in fact some of the people who were killed were heading to the US can you give us any indication then of why a drug cartel would want to target why would they go after them we don't know perhaps the drug cartel fought the people inside the S. U. V.'s were part of a a rival drug cartel many authority rejecting that claim but it's certainly something that's being looked into CBS is the Fuhrman reporting from Tucson Arizona thanks Steve thank you

"Eight six six ninety redeye he is Eric Harley and I'm Gary McNamara. Welcome and good morning. So how's everybody doing? Where's your head at here on this? Thursday. Sach to the top of my head right now. How you doing? I'm hoping it's attached to the top of their bodies. Lately. Just how's how's everybody doing? What's going on? You know, you're okay. No. If anybody want to go home early, you you you feel yes. Yes. You feeling overwhelmed about what's going on? Little overwhelmed too, much information. I'm older time. I am. I am completely underwhelmed. Well, I I would agree with you on that. I mean, like the the op Ed piece in the New York Times you and I were both underwhelmed arena. Go where's the new information book, and and this combined I think it was the the Washington Post they called it the big thunder clap? No, no, no, not really the big thunderclap. Is yet Trump. Here's the evidence he colluded with Putin they hacked into the voting machines, and they changed the vote count. And here's the evidence other than that. You don't have any other than that. It's all nothing because every accusations been made against him. By the wing close to that by letty Davis, which ended up being a complete lie. Yeah. Well, that that's what we have to consider here is that while the New York Times wasn't at fault for that CNN was so when you when you say, well, that's ridiculous. No, major news organization would ever engage in that kind of of course. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Well, the Sarah Palin editor, and we don't have to go any further than that. Yep. The New York Times will butcher the truth. Even their editors sitting down to analyze. You know, what happened with the Gabby giffords shooting, and and still defame someone's character and then client. Well, we corrected it. As we set any idiot. In the media who has been paying any attention at all knew that story was false. When the New York Times wrote it a judge let him judge. Let him scape saying. Well, they apologized afterwards. They said they were wrong. So look at it doesn't matter what the New York Times. They'll try anything that they can get away with we've seen it. Yup. So yeah. To be suspicious of their their sourcing. Absolutely. The reason though that we have been on the track that we've been today Saint okay, who might possibly be is. Because from what we can see the White House is not saying that they don't believe it somebody from the White House. On the on the the the story. The Woodward book, you have had Kelly and Mattis and others state absolutely false, whoever that source is that couldn't have been in the meeting never was said. So you've had you know, they came out and directly contradicted. What was in that book here in this case, even Trump has instead, it's fake news? He called the person gutless wants to know who it is inside the administration. So how they react to me gives an indication that they believe that it is somebody high up who wrote that op Ed piece and everybody's been making their their guesses here. And it's funny because like every half hour, I go back, then I do a Google search to see if anybody comes up with any new names, or or like, the story is breaking because this story could break it anytime, we find we will find out who it is. Yeah, it's going to happen in a matter of days. That's that's not going to this isn't gonna last long enough of the picture of vice president Pence smiling with a slide little smile, and then it's more of a mean, actually somebody tweeted it out with the words who's the one person? Trump couldn't fly. I look. It's this is great fun. It's it's it was hilarious. We're listening to some of the. You know, the the liberal media during a break earlier. This is who it could be this is okay. Let's let's not get too serious. We didn't learn anything new about this president. Okay. No. We didn't learn because had it been allegation of him committing a crime in the White House. You know, something like that. And then there were other sources that came out and back that a wait a minute that's been going on for over a year and a half now. So never mind. This is nothing just like the Woodward book is nothing new. We haven't learned anything. We wait. We've learned what people think they should do when they disagree with the president. We have learned that we learned how people would love to grab power themselves. Even though they weren't elected. We've word we've learned that. I don't know that that's anything new. I we've kind of assumed that all along generally speaking, every president has had somebody that is or a group of people inside the administration staff and their cabinet that has been that has disagreed with them at some point this president seems to well this president has disagreed with himself quite a bit. So let's not get to work them about this. We did again the last twenty four hours on whether we should shut down the government or not sent the daily caller in one direction than stated yesterday. He still willing to shut it down. Which was like what the story was reported two days ago. President said he's not going to shut it down which which again he had promised to do. And then I'm certain you. And I know exactly what happened. He was so insistent back three or four months ago that we weren't gonna we are gonna shut down in September. We are going to shut down. We are going to shut down that. I'm sure that when it came out his interview with the daily caller where it was. Well, I'm not really big on on on shutdowns at the government that part of his base went bonkers. Oh, yeah. You said you were going to shut down over the wall. I don't know. I didn't see did is Ann Coulter in the emergency room. Did she comment or she? She she may be at a bar. Because when when when I saw that the other day, I went oh, wow. And I didn't immediately go to an Coulter's Twitter page when when I saw that that the didn't think that shutdowns were great. And now he's spending that he is willing to shut it down. Again. We'll see and within twenty four hours. He changed his mind as this happened before when there's been an outcry. Not what I meant was this. Now, he didn't explain her say that he was wrong the day before he just came out with a new statement. But that is commonplace for this president. I wish it wasn't you? And I've stated over and over again, we believe that his communications is the worst thing of his presidency. Not the things that he's actually done of substance. They've been they've been pretty good very good for a president. But the fact is his communications are horrendous. And his manic way of not being able to stay focused on a topic has hurt his agenda. And but the things that he has done I knew when I voted for him. This guy's not going to be a perfect president at all. I had as I like to say this because it was determined that time we had a binary choice. Hillary are Trump. It was as a. Yeah. Yeah. I just again, it's. It just it. It reeks of the whole. Remember the whole van Jones is rolling up his sleeves. They're trying to aggress roots effort to change the mind of the electors. Ended up being where she had a net loss, and he actually gained some electors in that process. But it is the nothing story the big nothing that well, I'm it's Cohen Cohen story all over again except here. There's really no allegation of or or of the pointing of. Okay. You don't because we didn't hear from this op Ed piece, we're all going to gather together. Remember, the whole thing while there's part of it or they said at the beginning, we were considering you know, the power of the twenty fifth amendment and all of this. And it was like no you weren't. No. But we did not want to send an I'm paraphrasing. We did not want to send the nation into a constitutional crisis. Stop stop beating your chest. That's how it by the way. That's that's how I know. It's a guy. I look I want Trump out. And I want people like those Senate Democrats that we've seen the last forty eight hours. I want those people at exactly who pretended to be all by last week, right? And went to war during the Cavanaugh hearings. Give me a break. You're not any more noble than anybody else. You you try and steal this power. And hide behind. You know, this this op Ed piece you don't want to come out as the person. But here you have to if you're anybody if you're a smart as you profess to be in this op Ed piece, then you have to know that your Butt's going to be on the curb in a matter of days, you're gone. So if you think you pretend and profess to do all of this work in the interest of the American people yet, you do something that's going to end all of that. Well, you know, back in I believe it was June were George will was say, you know, a vote against the GOP November, which is mean vote for Democrats, really, George will the Democrats. We've just seen the last forty eight hours. Oh, yeah. I I want that type of sanity get Trump outta their Norway prop is unacceptable. The Senate Democrats. Yes, that's what I want. That's what I want. Yeah. Give us some sanity. Put those Senate Democrats in there. They're nice and civil. Remember, the Senate is not the house of representatives, which is just a wild bunch of loose Cowboys. The Senate is the thoughtful branch of the legislature. They are the moderate branch of the legislature. So we need to have somebody running for president. That's in that core of Senate Democrats that we have seen over the last forty eight hours to bring stability and civility to this country. What a load of crap look there is no perfect candidate out there. In including Trump. You put somebody in that office to get as much as you can of the agenda that you believe is right for America. But nobody is perfect. We don't practice political idolatry on the show and never had before. But this this this this Bs that's being thrown out there that even you know, you you've got the Republicans that have jumped on whether it was will back in in in June or the the Trump derangement syndrome from what's his name? I can't think of a crystal a Bill Kristol that is just loaded with Trump derangement, you know, system or the the the Jeff flakes the Democrats here, and they're not really going to disturb this proceeding whatsoever. As he said the other day shot up. Who are you trying to be s now look Trump's not perfect? But I'd rather the hell have him any day of the week. Then the lunatics in the of the democrat party that we've seen in the Senate over the last forty eight hours. We'll tell me that the demo or that the Republicans all those Republicans, especially those any of those who again claim to be better and of some kind of higher moral more civil standing, here's my question..

"What impact does that have on grand jury reports mullah's grand jury ports right now? Well, the Justice department, in this case, dating back six decades. Taking the position that judges do not have the discretion to release that kind of information. Mike, just because historians or scholars might be interested in it or even journalists. And the question is, how far does that principle go? If the court, the DC circuit. This is a Republican leaning panel that is going to take up this issue. And if you weeks, if they were to rule, the judges don't have the authority to release that kind of information. It might be difficult to mullet for Muller to then walk in with a request just a couple of weeks later and ask a federal judge to bless disclosure of information that really doesn't fit within one of the stabbed exceptions to grand jury secrecy. So it's really a question of how far the court goes in, accepting the Justice Department's arguments and potentially narrowing the options Muller has to get his information out to the public through legitimate channels. All right. Politicos Josh, gercy. Thank you so much affiliating story. We will stay tuned. First of all, it's the first one to come out and it's in the NRA's backyard in Virginia's tenth congressional district going directly at Barbara Comstock and it's featuring Gabby giffords herself speaking to camera, which is something we haven't seen before. She in many ways is a very powerful advocate as a victim herself of gun violence that forever changed her life. This also marks the beginning of a suburban offensive that we have not seen in the past going after a lot of these suburban swing districts, Joe, this is one of the things that's been lacking in the past, which is the money and the intensity behind the gun safety community, the pro gun control community. And so you could expect to potentially see ads like this in many suburban swing districts from states like Minnesota to Zona to Virginia. This is just the first one. I think it's significant that it's right in the back yard of the. NRA at a time when their popularity is that eighteen year low according to recent polling. Barbara's district is a tough district for any Republican to win. She's obviously facing a tough battle there in large part because as Heidi said, suburban, women are going to be the targets for Democrats get out and vote and create a Blue Wave. And if you look at what happened in the governor's race last year that maybe a winning strategy in a lot of suburban districts. So here's Lindsey, Graham. He was on the today show talking about. John McCain, his friendship with John McCain. But while he was there, he also gave Donald Trump a green light to fire Jeff Sessions. Take a look. We need an attorney general that can work with the president. Only beef, the president seems to have against him is that he's not going to get rid of the investigation president. Infants is much deeper than that. What else? What are we miss? Well, we won't say on this show, but it's a pretty deep breach, and here's what I'm suggesting that he's not the only man in the country can be attorney general. He's a fine man. I'm not asking him to be fired, but the relationships not working to replace him..

"W. Y Esa President Trump tweeting this morning a big deal looking good with, Mexico, is the two nations look to renegotiate NAFTA after President Trump essentially launched a trade war against Canada Mexico and. Any other nation with whom he did not feel was giving the, United States a fair shake on trade we will discuss. That, as we know the difference between financial advisers, our weekly, segment with annex. Wealth management CEO Dave spot oh coming up in, just a couple of minutes This Jacksonville shooting. At the video game tournament was actually personally rather scary for at least a minute or two to me personally is my, in-laws, are actually in the Jacksonville area technically Ponte Vedra beach right now for a moral service for by wife's grandmother. Who passed away last week at age one hundred and two if, you can believe that rest in peace ya ya which. Is, what she was called by the great grandkids And I just had, to Texas a hey you're, not anywhere near this mall are you the video that came out for those not following the story. Two, people killed the gunmen committing suicide at a Madden NFL video game. Tournament. At a popular shopping area in downtown Jacksonville eleven people injured in this shooting the gunman was a contestant in this video game tournament a professional video game player or a wannabe video game professional lost at according to witnesses went out to his car got a handgun and went back into the, area where the tournament. Was taking place in started shooting well there was an, online streaming video on the video game streaming site twitch That showed one of the victims Twenty-seven-year-old father who unfortunately was shot and. Killed, playing and all of a sudden a red dot appears on his. Chest The screen then goes back to the video game itself a football game And then goes dead there are other streams. Of this tournament in which you can hear the gunshots and people. Screaming but this Was just a, terrifying scenario And it's amazing how quickly The left will politicize a tragedy after telling us not to politicize the death. Of Molly Tibbets on. Saturday this was CNN anchor Frederica Whitfield less than twenty four hours after police discovered the body. Of missing Iowa, college student Molly Tibbets Republicans including President Trump highlighted her death to, argue for stricter immigration law how dare they twenty four hours after that Frederica Whitfield was anchoring during the shooting in Jacksonville before she even knew. Exactly what was going on, she had on Mark Kelly the astronaut and husband of Gabby giffords who of course was shot and badly injured. In a shooting in Arizona, a couple of years ago this is what the exact same, anchor Fredricka Whitfield asks Kelly Yeah and, how does something like this I know it's so standing just happened, but how does another incident like this help shape while you're big gun advocate at the same time you have been pushing for gun safety gun. Reform how does another incident, like this get folded into what you've been pushing for on Capitol Hill on a federal level how how does. This fold into that narrative, how exactly can this be used to advance a gun control Eric Interestingly, enough the gunman was from. Baltimore he was not from the Jacksonville, area not from, Florida not even from the region had come all the way down to this video game tournament to play in the. Tournament he apparently and we don't know where or how he got his, gun but it does appear that he got the gun from his home state of Maryland if that is the, case and it is not confirmed yet to my knowledge where he got the. Gun that would be interesting because Maryland routinely gets as from the Brady foundation and is well known for having among the strictest gun laws in the entire. Country in, fact for someone to purchase a handgun in, Maryland you have to have a handgun qualification. License you need to complete a training, class get fingerprinted and pass a comprehensive background. Check then you're also required to pass a background check at the point of sale whenever you purchase or take ownership of a pistol Maryland. State police keeps a database of all pistols sales and transfers in the state which serves as a registry of Maryland's handgun owners We are, getting word that President Trump is going to make a statement regarding this new trade deal, with Mexico I'm gonna make an. Executive decision and we are going to try to take that. Statement live as it comes in producers Scott filling in for Armand today we should have a feed of that should be relatively easy we are going to check in with Dave. Spot of annex wealth management at the usual time that we are going to be talking about NAFTA and, how this is, impacting markets the NASDAQ has crossed eight, thousand for the very first time on this news as obviously this is very very good news not just specifically the deal with Mexico But the notion that the Trump gambit of imposing tougher sanctions or at least threatening it is paying off. And that we are able to, get nations to the bargaining table to get deals that we believe at more favorable terms, to the United States I have. Not heard deal details of this agreement but we will of. Course hear them about eleven minutes from now can we sneak in a phone call Shirley can't Paul in Racine you're on the Dan O'Donnell show every Monday to your damn sure. Though I would I call your call screener was that John McCain is in such stark contract to down, stark contrast to, battled Trump and I think it is Status as, a quote unquote war hero He used that in a poor way to. Leverage his political career is entire life whereas, with Donald Trump He will tell you Mike you to your face. John McCain will smile and shake your hand and call you friend or did despise you behind his back and that was no more evident with the going on health, care when, he got, up there and, he gives the? Old dramatic thumbs. Down that was basically. Him just you know been mean-spirited John McCain saying you know what this is personal this is about me it's, not about, the American people and he relished after that boat being in front of the cameras and just you know basically out of fine himself, instead of doing was right for the American people in. As, much as people might not like. Donald Trump he's trying to do. What's right for. The American people well the thing about McCain's thumbs down I have a difficult time. Believing it was anything Other than a. Stab in the back, he, had told no one. Of his plans to vote against the Bill and in fact the only thing he had said was that. Week you return to Washington from his treatment specifically to vote on this Billy gave a big speech about bipartisanship and the need for civility in politics and all of, this it, almost seemed, like foreshadowing of, what he was? About to do. And I don't know. If this was a personal vendetta against Trump for the Republican party that was lining up behind him but I, do know, that this took everyone and I mean everyone by surprise the vice president was in the capital ready to cast the deciding vote because, they assumed they had it and it is sad that. That, ultimately was the last thing a. Memory that the American people have of John McCain That conservatives had one last turn The Republican party in one last vote could not count on McCain and had to deal with days and days and days. Of laudatory coverage from, the media, it was something that quite frankly I never did forgive the Senator for I was stunned staying up watching this and could, not believe what I was seeing but that was John McCain not going to denigrate his service or attack. Him personally or his his character but there was that aspect of his, character that he did hold grudges and he did. Remember calling Ted Cruz and rand Paul wacko birds Viciously attacking the. Tea party movement which was energizing conservatives disavowing Palin and her supporters and, all of that so as with anyone you leave. A mixed legacy Just something to think about, all right we. Will get into the NAFTA announcement coming up.
