"Okay, Rachel. Wow, that was a conversation. We just had. It was indeed a conversation. I think one of the key takeaways here is that these true crime tiktoks, subreddits, Instagram accounts, they are not going away. I mean, what could have been a learning moment seems to have largely convinced a large section of crime TikTok that they are, in fact, doing the right thing, or that there is a way to do this correctly when perhaps the question should be whether to do this at all. It felt almost like we were watching her develop a conscience in real time about the consequences of her actions over the past week. I think the thing we should remember and hopefully people in the true crime talk game will remember going forward is you and I don't know Gabby petito. We don't know whoever unfortunately the next person who's unfortunate death becomes a Gabby petito story. We don't know them either. So much of true crime talk is just projection. How much of ourselves we see in a stranger on the Internet? We aren't owed answers. And I think so much of, I mean, the most generous for you to true crime TikTok is that they are answering for a gap in policing. And perhaps the resources and time they spend devoted to parsing over what song Gabby petito was listening to on Spotify, could instead be devoted to pushing police departments to actually solve violent crimes rather than spending all their time on broken windows policing. I think that's a really good place to end Rachel. We don't deserve answers to any of these stories. The only thing that is deserved is justice for someone like Gabby petito. Okay, that's the show. "Been planning to dispose of her body all along. The clip that you just saw was at 6 minutes and 40 seconds and it was a brine reading a book. And it apparently is called the annihilation by Jeff Vander meer about groups of people exploring uncharted terrain that go missing. This particular book in the series follows four women. What? So many people have said that that needs to be information needs to be handed over to the police. I looked up this book to see if it's legit. In my oh my, it's legit. So those are all, like we said, conspiracy theories. What we do actually know right now is that Brian laundrie is a person of interest in the Gabby petito case that a body appearing to fit Gabby's description has been found in Wyoming, but the DNA is not yet officially confirmed. And finally, that authorities are on the hunt for laundry in Florida. That is all we know. And here's where things get even messier. That body appears to have been found thanks, at least in part, and I honestly want to say in small part to social media. There was a couple in the grand teton area around the same time as Gabby and Brian that had filmed footage of what appears to be the couple's van. They sent that to the FBI and also later posted it on TikTok and YouTube. It's kind of a surreal video, the first few minutes are very dramatic talking about the chills of having this footage, and then it just pivots to a normal where a family who lives in a van. Watch our content 14 minute saga. Kind of freaky for a late Saturday evening, but we just kind of had a brain fart. Oh my God, there's that van. So if you get anybody can help, I know the FBI is looking for all the help they can get onto the case. Welcome back to red, white and Bethune. This month, we're doing another important tip also came from TikTok. Someone who is hiking in grand teton reportedly picked up Brian laundrie while he was hitchhiking. And later realized that he was a person of interest after seeing the gap of potato story go viral on social media. She contacted the authorities and then posted it on TikTok. Rachel, I feel like you already know what I'm about to say. Is it nuance? It is, in fact, that things can be two things at once. You know, it is a good thing that maybe this van life couple and this woman on TikTok potentially helped assist authorities in finding this body, but that's sort of the end of the positivity there, right? There's no winner here, and crime talk almost gamifies, murder solving. And importantly, ignores the long history of people calling in anonymous tips about crimes that existed before the Internet. I don't know if anyone, not to go fictional. If anyone's seen a single episode of Criminal Minds, you would know that the FBI has in fact been doing anonymous tip caller lines for years. But, you know, those anonymous tips, there are two points here to be scored for being helpful. You don't get credit for doing what is the right thing. And then deciding to post it online for, again, my favorite word of this episode dubious reasons. The comment sections of those videos and Instagram posts and the Reddit threads are just full of people saying that they are obsessed with this case, that the Netflix documentary is surely being dreamed up right now in some office somewhere that it's a darkly fascinating story. And sadly, that's all true, but it's not a story, or at least not a fictional one, right? This is a family's nightmare. But a social media algorithm doesn't know, or even care about that. Exactly. Is what compels views and clicks and shares and what compels those things is gross content that spreads much faster and louder than content with perhaps more measured or well meaning intentions. And this dynamic is never clear than on crime Todd. We're not saying anything new here. The true crime industrial complex has been criticized over and over and over again. For sensationalizing the worst moment in a family's life for relying on and basically saying, we're okay with police, which we're skeptical of. Sorry. Well, welcome to the show. We are skeptical, and that is putting it lightly. And then of course, it's also been criticized for the ways that whiteness and white supremacy are just, you can not experience the genre of true crime as it currently exists without confronting the way it prioritizes whiteness. I mean, it's not a coincidence that the name of a young attractive blond woman is the one that everyone now knows. And that is not to diminish the tragedy that is Gabby petito and her case. But there's a whole term for this called missing white woman syndrome that was coined by the late PBS anger Glenn eifel around I think 2005 when the Natalie Holloway case was dominating the news. Missing white woman syndrome refers to the way that mainstream media and society and true crime TikTok is obsessed with covering missing or endangered white women while largely ignoring cases of missing people of color. Some true crime podcast faced a reckoning last summer after the murder of George Floyd once again exposed the deep inequities in the criminal justice system, a system that most true comp podcast kind of refused to interrogate until last summer. And if there is anything we should have learned since last year, is that maybe perhaps the policing methods that put people in prison should be abolished rather than celebrated. And before you come into our mentions, murder is bad. Don't murder people. We know that. The nuance. We're assuming you are smarter. Than the DMs you may be considering sending. But the thing is that reckoning about true crime, it seems to have largely skipped right on by crime talk, which by platform design, AKA short form content designed to get the most views rather than what is most nuanced, it falls into the very word to true crimes habits. Something that really fascinates me about true crime talk is that a lot of it, or at least a portion of it, is just re reporting news from police blotters and FBI press conferences and local news. It's essentially news aggregation with absolutely no oversight, right? It's a mini media industry of people who often say like, you can't trust everything you're in the media. Here's me. I'm the new media. Which is, again, fascinating because after last year, there was a similar reckoning within media about trusting initial police reports. And so all of the kind of introspection after the summer of 2020, just again, seems to have completely skipped by on crime talk. Who are taking police blotters and FBI press conferences and local news at their word, which I don't know, man. There's a long history about why we shouldn't do that. I mean, I think that's where true crime comes from, right? This post serial economy we live in where people often feel like the real stories and going to come from the media, but it's going to come from an at home Nancy Drew hardy boys type who just wants the truth. One of the people that kept coming up in the Gabby petito TikTok hashtag and also who my for you page just decided I simply needed to see over and over again is a woman, a 24 year old woman named Haley to Mayan, who posts under the name at Robin Haley. She's made over 50 tiktoks about the case. We'll hear from Haley herself after the break.

"The world was a little more fair with that kind of stuff and you know took all of these cases. It really really seriously like. I know we're talking about it but we're talking about it. Because i mean frankly everywhere and it would be weird of us to skip it at this point and i like i said i wish the world was a little more a little bit more fair because you know there are other little girls and boys and things like that that happen. You know the all the kids in atlanta like learns ago just disappeared. And i mean there's so many things and you know nobody heard about that story except people. I'd actually yeah. It actually liked to do that one. I somebody think it was a buddy. I one of my best friends told me to do that. One and i never heard that. That's the thing like i mean. I don't remember the number. But there were quite a few children that disappeared in atlanta. And i mean a lot of them were found again just they weren't found alive but i mean it's just there there. There was so much to that story and And it and it grips that whole part of atlanta gripped them for. I think it was the better part of a year or two that this was happening at. Yeah seventy nine eighty one or eighty two. I think yeah so. I mean that's what i mean like. Obviously i don't i don't want to take away from from what's happening with the story but at the same time. I want to be very clear that this is an this. This kind stuff happens more often and it's just we don't we don't hear about as much which happens every single day and honestly it happens a lot you know in situations that are that are a lot worse right though. Yeah well here you know. And and you're right ryan. You're absolutely correct. It's it's a shame that that people only want to that. We only cover. What people wanna hear right and i think that that there's a lot to these other stories and like even even like going back to the one that everyone knows now but i guarantee no one knew before adnan siad the the original series No one knew that story. No one knew it No one had any idea any of that had ever happened and then And then they make a show out of it and it's massive and and such. That's that's because it was done very well and it was a very compelling story but that but that's the point and you know th that's upsetting that upsets me personally that everybody's talking about this but this kind of stuff happens all the time and yeah. That's all that's all. I got to say about that. Okay so box. I'll put it away. It's over there back to this. I i just like. I said i just want to be found. I want there to be an answer. And and i want somebody somebody to say or speak up or answer for what happened to this girl because she seemed to be a very lovely person and i don't want nobody should ever have to go out of the world that way. Ever right right yeah. Thank you so much for joining us to talk about this. Obviously like we said at the beginning and like we've said so many times. There's so many unanswered questions here. In you know Sadly and we didn't get into this. There's a lot of weird conspiracy theories out there A lot of them hold absolutely no merit and we don't even wanna really entertain them. They exist and i feel like it'd be weird if we didn't say they exist at least acknowledge them but the reality is that this looks to be pretty straightforward up to a point up until basically august twenty seventh on..

"When they get there. You can see the door actually close in the back of the van now. A lot of people didn't think this was the van originally. But it's been tied with a sticker on the back of the bumper and florida license plates. That's what i was looking for. I was looking for that sticker. Yeah stickers on the back yep yep it's definitely there and i believe. Don't quote me on this one. But i believe her body was found relatively close to this location will. Isn't this now that i am talking. Maybe twenty feet from where that van is parked. Now that i'm looking at these pictures. There were also people that thought that she was in the front seat. I've heard that too. Yes we same exact video so so the the belief with the the thing on the log is that they believe that gaby is preparing to post some sort of pregnancy announcement. There is another thing with her pinterest where she had like baby thing on her baby page. I don't know anything about pinterest. So however i i will say that. It's a little odd that that thing is in that video so another another witness reported to the fbi and this is the one that i talked about earlier reported to the fbi with exact coordinates the location of where she spotted a slow moving white van with a male quote acting weird. This allegedly the fbi told this lady that this is the lead that led to the body down for what you take that for what it is. It's just her saying it. They have not confirmed that in any way but take it for what it is and the final one which. I'm sure you've seen but it's a couple talking about how they had picked. Brian up on the twenty ninth while he was hitch-hiking. Yeah the young couple yeah. Brian offered them two hundred dollars for ten mile drive which was obviously very odd to begin with how was also. It's very odd especially when they just stated two weeks ago. They didn't have any money right. They were. They were worried about getting a hotel that night. So you know it. It's weird but people do weird stuff in this in this situation. We find it all the time when we go over the stuff. So what are the odds that this random youtube channel is in the area and catch is a right right dude. That's so okay. So anyway they. They were heading to jackson hole wyoming which is where they got in that restaurant argument. The family and wants brian finds out. They're going to jackson hole. Instead of jackson which is another spot in the area. He freaks out and gets out tells them let him out and he's going to go hitchhike a different way. He needs to go to jackson. Not jackson hole so again. Take that for what it's what it's worth You know it's just somebody saying it but what we're going to focus on here..

"I think they would be trying to protect him. Either right so the federal grand jury indicted brian but not for anything related to the discovery of her body. They indicted him for intent to defraud in relation to over a thousand dollars. He spent between the thirtieth and september. First making the search for brian. Officially a quote manhunt. Now i think the i think that is tied to maybe gaby's credit card that he obviously used on the way home. Yeah that's what that's what turned into that right. Eventually they identify gabby body as gabby and the cause of death is not really determined. But it's just put us homicide which i also thought was kind of weird too but i mean i think they look at everything surrounding the case for that determination. Don't they. yeah. I mean i. It's all i think is all down to the condition of the body. The situation the body was found in witness accounts and behavior of you know. People have interest like brian. So i mean with with everything going on. I don't think we know much about the condition that gabby was found in right. Not at all. Yeah and i'm sure more information will come out about that eventually. But you know i. I would assume that they have some information that leads them to that conclusion. Yeah that's what i that. That's what i. Because he. I think in the notes that said that it might be hard to determine the cause and time of death because of animals and and other problems that you know. We're on the body. So i don't know them marking it as homicide tells me that they probably know exactly how she died. They're not releasing it but anyway also and he also like there. There's been a lot of Talk on social media about the fact that he packed for a trip that was and i know they were doing this This trip but basically his pack was. And i'm trying to look. I was just now trying to look up. How long.

"They said that both subjects were acting and talking aggressively the female punch. The may only arm and took the phone tried to get into the locker vehicle which she was unable to do that. She finally got in through. The driver's seat climbed over the mail and got into the passenger seat and then drove away now. Police initiated the traffic. Stop in this is the body cam footage that we're all talking about but the weird thing i found in the body did you guys watch the entire body footage stuff or at least a portion of it to forty five minutes of it. I skipped around a little bit. Just kind of to scrubbed around as to what i thought were important. Parts like right ryan view parts. Yeah so so in the in that dash cam her body cam footage rather they state that the nine one one caller said that the female was striking the mail and that the caller couldn't differentiate if the mail was trying to defend himself or was actually striking the female in. That's not if you listened to the nine one one call. It's not even remotely. What the nine. One one call is now. I get nine one. One calls rarely get solid information to the people that are responding to it. Typically right but that's kind of a big missed thing there my wrong no no no not at all and i mean even in the video it shows like they both have marks on them phrase got marks on his neck and he definitely yeah right yeah so she. I saw somebody. Somebody pointed out that. She's got like a bruise kind of like where her like. Honored sheikh up yet lines up a little bit with what she says. Which is he grabbed her by the face to try and cover away so so so anyway the police catch up with the couple in the van which turn out of course be gabby and brian gaby's hysterically crying somewhat. Calm but kind of weird acting i. I don't know when i watched this footage. It seemed like they were both on something to me. I don't know if i was just you know. I had no information on anything that was going on. Yeah especially brian bryan. Looks like he's definitely chill like he's you know something i mean you know. They are out in the wilderness. So maybe maybe they were doing something but yeah no. I agree with you so anyway to break it down real short a the cops originally get to the plan to charge gabby and because for whatever reason they determine i think it's because of the m- the marks brian he does have a lot of scratches on his neck in his face and everything else and then the nine one one caller in the witness that they called said that the the female was so. I don't know it's a lot of messed up information with this nine. Won't one call in this entire incident but the original plan was to charge her and separate them for the night. They understood that they were living out of a van way. Far away from any family friends anything so they ask gabby in the police thing if if she had any intention to harm right can remember how they they said to inflict or impair brian when she was striking them to what she said. No so then. The plan changes to. They're still going to get separated. But nobody's gonna get charged so brian. It's a hotel room for being a victim of a domestic incident and gabby gets the keys to the van and gets to be free for the night and this is really the last we see or hear from them right..

I mean yeah okay. So you got if you if you've listened to our show before you know that we typically have a lot of structure and we have written down. We have an outline. We have things we go over and in this particular case this. This whole thing is really raw. It's really knew the. There's still stuff happening if you if you don't know about it already you're probably living under a rock but If you're not patrick star then we wanna make sure that we're giving you as much information as we possibly. They do look to make sure that you're not looking for that escape. One of the things. We noticed on the national. Domestic violence hotline. There's actually a message up at the top that warns people. Your internet usage can be monitored so here is how you can actually clear your browser history after you've visited this website to get the phone number being careful in protecting is i. Think of the utmost importance when you're already experiencing violence in your home. Yes and There are there are ways to around it. there's incognito mode there is still still cleared but there are. There are ways to protect your browser history. a bird phone is something that i also had the very end that just allows you to kind of have another communication point or way to access information. The library is great. And the other thing that i would say. Is that before you get involved in with an abuser. You know just just no no. The red flags I think that one of the things that i would love to see. It is for us to start teaching healthy boundaries and red flags in sex ed courses in yes will because i think that the more you'll manipulators are gonna find a way you know if we all learned the red flags they're gonna figure out other ways but knowing the red flags is a huge step in being able to protect yourself from manipulative and abusive partners. I could not agree more with your suggestion of teaching these things in sex education. That's probably one of the most important places that you can learn about what's healthy and what's not is when you're young and inexperienced in just trying to figure things out that's when we should be learning these things and also remember that we are modeling behavior for our kids and so if you need an incentive to get out of an abusive relationship know that your kids are watching you and that That you can model another way for them. Thank you for listening guys. We hope that you enjoyed this episode as much as we enjoyed having brook on again we were so incredibly lucky for her to agree to do this and break all of this down with us. She's an incredible person again. Brooklyn ville dot com. All of her links will be available in mbatha. The show nuts as well as on youtube. And we'll be tweeting them and putting them on our socials as well but we really really hope that if anything comes out of the gabby petito case because it is such a has opened up a conversation about so many different things as far as racial disparity domestic violence and things like that that if anything good can come out of it maybe something can be changed whether it's via laws of the way that media handles things the way that police and law enforcement is trained to recognize situations like these so much can change but it definitely takes loud voices in a village and people willing to stand up to effect that change in order to do it so again. A huge thank you to brooke for coming taking the time to come on.

And it's one that has garnered national media attention One that has is really a truly devastating truly devastating case I wanna to bring you up to speed. Here's a clip from cnbc about where we're at right now. And the petito case. This is the area where investigators made the discovery over the weekend. It is not easy to get to and it's pretty far from the nearest roadway but they spent a full day here after those human remains were discovered now known to be that of gabby petito processing the scene for evidence everywhere. You look in this. Small area of the spread creek dispersed camp area. You can see orange spray. Paint markers believed to be worth. Something of significance was documented by investigators. The markings were placed on trees and rocks and in some cases are numbered in the same vicinity. Many people have now noticed a rock cross in the sand along the banks of a stream that's nearby. it's unclear who put it there or when it was created earlier today. A preliminary autopsy took place at the teton county coroner's office. Several vehicles were seen leaving that facility including a large law enforcement utility truck outside. A member of the coroner's office could be seen talking to someone and hours later. It was announced that the remains are that of gabby petito following that announcement. The fbi issued a new flyer in this case now declaring gabby the victim of a homicide. It also asks that anyone who is in the spread creek camping area between august. Twenty seventh and august thirtieth to give them a call. Now gabby family has not spoken publicly since those remains were first discovered and we learned through their attorney today that they do plan to speak publicly once they say gabby remains have been brought back home. So that's the the biggest update there is that it has now been declared that she is a victim of a homicide I got news for you. It was brian landry. I mean there's no doubt in anybody's mind is there..

The Tragic Story of Gabby Petito is Distracting Americans From Much Bigger Issues
"Of course talking about the gabby petito story which i haven't spent a lot of time looking into but i know story starts to get big when i start to overhear other people talking about it and i just start to get to know enough based on people's interest and curiosity about it and has been a nonstop almost twenty four seven barrage on cable television about this story of gabby petito so if you don't know the story i'm not even caught up on all the details but the long short of it seems to be that gabby petito and her boyfriend. Travelled across the country had some sort of mysterious encounter mysterious but complicated encounter with the police. They seem to just find her body in jackson hole. And as long as i'm caught up to date with this which i believe is true. We don't know where the boyfriend is now where it seems that he's also disappeared saying the story is interesting but i think it's fascinating at how the media and quite honestly it's not just the media. It is the population as well because people are interested in this or else they wouldn't keep on putting it on television why people get so fascinated by these particular narratives and stories in a way that in other other stories. That should be way more important. Senior to dissipate and disappear. And i believe that this story is in a lot of different ways designed to try to have us be distracted or have us be interrupted or have us be kind of diverted from some of the traction that we have been having in the last couple of weeks of exposing the actual routes of where the pfau chief virus came from of chinese corona virus tyranny of a wide open border.

"Let me tell you. Notice story about of gabby petito in her boyfriend bryan laundry. Do you feel you and this is why if you have daughters stories like this is the reason why call my daughter three or four times a day right now. Gabby petito and brian laundry boyfriend girlfriend notch normal boyfriend and girl from them have my anxiety going through the roof the zion a little bit so they were kind of like no matter where they would rent truck they would drive all over the country. They would take pictures. They would do blogs right so the fact that she didn't speak to her mother in a couple of days was normal. So you know after a week. Mom said look. I haven't spoke to my daughter what's going on. It was just weird so she reached out to the boyfriend bryan laundry. He didn't answer his phone. He didn't call her back. Seem pretty way called family than in a family would answer So she filed a missing persons report like she should've after filing a missing persons report. Police went to brian laundries house which is out in florida family's house and when they asked. Hey you know wisdom young lady Blog you travel world together. What's going on. They gave him the lawyers number. He got into loyd new to me. They're ready lloyd. Up gave molloy all calculated of leaving the question. He already added lawyer ready. Okay bass right has made him a person of interest kind of weird right you give number. You don't say what happened. They're not talking at all now. His girlfriend is missing his young ladies missing. So now they find his body over the weekend in a wyoming on national forest park that they believe the remains are hers so now they believe he's a person interested in now. They can't find him he got. They don't know what he's he's more than a person of interest in. I mean i guess you got the. Fda advisors met to discuss the idea of boosters but they emerged with a surprise recommendation of their own vote did not have. The majority voted no rather than agreeing with a vaccine maker rather than agreeing with some of the top scientists and the biden administration the fda advisory panel announced. That booster shots should be available soon but only for senior citizens and other select groups some important distinctions. Here let's break it down with. Abc's aimed flaherty who covers federal agencies. And and what is the actual recommendation here like. Who's going to be able to get a booster shot and win right. So i think it's important to remember. The fda actually hasn't decided yet. This is an advisory panel that was looking at the data and they were only looking at data that related to pfizer. So this is the first vaccine that rolled out. It rolled out mostly to nursing homes and health care workers more than nine months ago and what they did was. They looked at a lot of data. I think it's vial disgusting and reprehensible that they would put out a statement when it wasn't even it was less than a week ago. It was less than a week ago just days ago a couple of days ago when gaby tito's family was begging for information for brian to come forward and discuss what they know or his family and they choose today to put out a statement being like web. Sorry just beyond vile so. I'm going to go ahead. And follow up with the of the final headlines here today guys. The suzanne more few case very more few will actually be going to trial. I know that this was actually kind of a gray area. We weren't sure which way this one was going to go but in the ruling. Judge patrick murphy. This past seventeen. Two days ago on friday outlined the three possibilities that he considered in this case. The first was that. Suzanne was murdered by berry the second being that she was abducted by persons unknown and he also in this case. I mentioned the dna found on. Suzanne more fused glove glovebox door. That did not that match berry more few or three. Suzanne left She gone girl. She just ghosted and left without telling a soul or taking her purse money. Anything now the judge did not believe that the state proved through evidence presented at the preliminary hearing that they prove first degree murder so a bond was actually set at five hundred thousand dollars cash cash and yes very more few will have to pay every single penny of that in order to walk out of the jail now if he can pay the money then he can get out tomorrow monday with an ankle bracelet there will be multiple stipulations attached to this such as him not being allowed to leave chafee county along with a whole list of people that he's not allowed to contact at all. This would include various potential witnesses. And obviously suzanne more fuse family. The judge also spoke about the lack of proof of premeditation. He said that berry finding out this. Suzanne was having an affair basically gives him a motive and feelings of hurt anger..

"Her name. Is lauren show. But her friends called her l. l. like gabby had this dream of kind of starting over driving across country in a van being on the road so she hopped in a tour bus with her friend who she used to date named corey and they drove from new jersey to california where they were staying in this like airbnb situation with a bunch of artists. L. was a chef and while she was out there. According to stacey moore's reporting for high desert star she quote boughten old school bus and was converting it into a food truck and quote but all her dreams seem to have come to a crashing halt on june twenty eight. That's when she walked out of the place that she was staying at three pm and was never seen again. Her friends didn't know where she was going. According to a statement corey gave stacey more quote. She was apparently trying to take her car at the time but she didn't have the keys. She had an intention to go somewhere. And i know she was dating again and quote. He talk more about her dating saying that he knew that she'd gone out with someone previously. But he didn't ask who and of course now. He's kicking himself that he didn't because unlike the ten minute window when they weren't together she walked out and he hasn't seen her since something felt wrong to him right away about her walking away again. You know financing my friend in ten minutes. Maybe i wouldn't freak out. But he was freaking out. He immediately started looking for her and even got a group of friends to go out towards the mountains and trails in the direction. He saw her walking to look for her but they couldn't find anything after a couple of hours like at five thirteen. They were calling the sheriff for help. Now because of how little reporting there is out there on this case. I don't have a ton of background about what happened before she walked out but there was a reason for everyone being so frightened so quickly. According to jake and grassi is reporting for news channel. three l. had made some comments about self harm before walking out the door that day so there was an urgency in looking for her but when the sheriffs got out there they found something interesting quote the found all of my tracks and my friends tracks but none of hers and quote and that was a quote from cory cory and the others wonder if she got in a car with someone. Maybe that's someone who she was seeing or maybe she even hitchhiked in the early days. Everyone hoped that this was some big misunderstanding. Like she didn't even know people were looking for her. According to high desert star quote sheriff's calls show others claim to see her with a man at a restaurant in yucca valley end quote but nothing seems to have materialized from that the sheriff's office did searches in the first two days but after no one found anything those were called off they tried again on july twenty fourth even with a plane but again they found nothing and at that point l. Had been missing for almost a month on july thirty first bow. Instead of searching out in the wilderness invest eater started looking a little closer to lawrence home base. Because they served what we now know was a second search warrant on that saturday at six. Am to wear l. was living since that update which came in early august. There has been nothing even in the month. She was missing there. Were only three or four news articles. So there's a chance that she is out there and just doesn't know people are looking for her. How is it going to get to her. I am glad that gaby is getting national attention to help find her. And i'm glad that literally every outlet has a story on her and her family deserve that. But i think l. and every other missing person deserves that to we need to get this on tectonic in social media because there's another missing woman for whom time is precious. "In the early days of september gabby potatoes family started to worry about her. She and her boyfriend bryan laundry had taken a van out west earlier in the summer they wanted to hit up all the national parks and document their journey online and the trip had been going well at least from the pictures gabby instagram and the frequent calls or video chat sheet made to her mom back in new york but now it had been a few days since her mom and stepdad in new york or her dad in florida had been able to get a hold of her and sure. Sometimes when you're traveling reception is spotty. Gaby's mom had received a text that had said as much from gabby phone on august. Thirtieth according to cnn read quote no service in yosemite but the more time passed without word from gabby the less sure her family was that text even came from her at all when her mom thought back on the last time she remembered really talking to her daughter hearing her voice or seeing her face. It was the twenty third. Maybe the twenty. Four even up to the twenty fifth according to newsweek. Either way it had been too long. Something was wrong. It seems that while. They tried to reach gabby they. Were also trying to reach brian or his family. According to an interview gabby parents on fox news. Her mom tried to call and tax. Brian's mom on the ted september tenth to tell her that she was worried about the kid because she hadn't heard from them but she couldn't even get a call or text back from brian's mom and gabby dad found out he too tried to call and tax even escalating. It telling them that the next step is they. Were going to call the police. But even that didn't garner response and at that point according to reporting by michael ruiz for fox news on september tenth her father had had enough waiting and he drove to brian's family's home looking for answers as to where his daughter was now. Brian has family also live in florida and gabby was living with them. Based on the reporting we don't know what was said at the home or who he talked to and he arrived just that he got there at six thirty on the night of the tenth. And we know he didn't go inside the house but obviously because there is a report we know that at some point police were called and there was a public service incident. Report made by the next morning. Her mother and stepfather reported. Gabby missing in suffolk county. New york where they live. Police seemed to have taken the report pretty seriously. Since the same day they contacted police in northport where laundries family lived and they asked them to go down there and basically see what's up. Do a welfare check. Maybe see if they have been able to get a hold of brian. who is supposed to be with gabby. But when police down there get to the family's door. Instead of being met with another set of concerned parents they were. Hit with a bombshell i. They learned that brian. Oh he's been home for a week. He drove gaby's van back solo and arrived home on september. First this is. We're finding out on september eleventh. Though all the time her family was looking for her or trying to get in contact with him he wouldn't speak to them again. They didn't even know he was home until right now. And it's at this point. According to a cabbie's mom told fox news that they were even more certain that that august thirtieth taxed didn't come from gabby because if brian is home in florida on the first then how would that even be possible. She didn't make any mention that they were separated or that she didn't have her van. No her mom doesn't have cell phone data to show where the phone pinged from. When that text came through she assumes the fbi is looking into all of that but to her. It's obvious that it didn't come from her daughter at yosemite but if police have questions about all of this and high they have a lot of questions about all of this. No one in the family is willing to answer those questions. Because according to a quote from law enforcement to cnn the police were essentially given an attorney's number and told if you've got any questions talked to him this did not sit well with police and it certainly didn't sit well with gabby family. Police seized van from the house and found quote unquote material in there though as of this recording. We don't know exactly what that was and this is about the time that this story started hitting all of your radars a couple on a camping trip. The boyfriend comes home but for ten days doesn't mention to anyone that he came home without his girlfriend and actually according to what they were telling people just days before gabby went missing. She was his fiancee though. Gobs mom says that they broke off the engagement and decided to go back to being boyfriend and girlfriend but either way fiance or not. They were together. He claimed to have loved her and yet here he was alone refusing to talk to anyone refusing to say when he last saw gabby why he's here alone even despite pleas from her parents and they. We're just asking brian to talk. They were begging absolutely begging anyone in his family to talk as well. I mean my god they all live with gabby. Surely they cared about her well. Being why wouldn't they convinced. Brian to cooperate and was there anything that they could tell police to help. Gaby's family released a statement through their lawyer directed to bryant's family and published it in a number of outlets quote. Please if you or your family have any decency left. Please tell us where gabby is located. Tell us if we are even looking in the right place. All we want is for gabby to come home. Please help us make that happen. We haven't been able to sleep or eat. An our lives are falling. Apart and quote. The laundry's statement to the public was that they wouldn't be talking. They had nothing to add. It was essentially no comment so without getting any information from the family. Police put the pressure on a little by officially naming bryant. A person of interest on september fifteenth according to the independent. By this point the whole country is watching the case and following every single move. How could this man just not say anything. Where did you leave her. If nothing bad happened just talk. It was the not talking that people became obsessed with because they would look at her instagram and his instagram and they seemed so happy. But you know what i know. Social media is a lie it only lets. You see the shiny parts of their lives kissing on the mountains doing cartwheels on the beach. It doesn't give you insight into the real parts of a relationship. The context with the support is actually very very very important because when you hear domestic disturbance you pretty much usually think of one or two things right so basically what happened is on august twelfth. A police officer responded to domestic hall. Apparently someone witnessed a young couple fighting. They reported a man taking a woman by the mouth and pushing her. I will let you read the full report by basically. Both gabby and brian agreed. That gabby was having mental health issues. They got into an argument. There trip had been straining their relationship. They were starting to have issues and she was scratching him She had slapped him grabbed him and he apparently pushed her away. That is the story that they both maintained. The officer arrived separated them. They maintain the same story He decided to de-escalate. Brian ended up staying in a hotel with police assistance. That evening gabby state in the van. They separated them for the evening and then they got back together and by all accounts they went on their way but again i will post this police report for that. It has finally been made.
