"Been on the road for a couple of hours and wanted to Get this podcast. And so it's going to be a walking podcast. Many of my podcasts have been and we'll continue because When I'm inspired I WANNA make sure that I speak to you guys even if it is As I'm walking back from morning tours and today In May anyways I started doing something called my ten foot tools so because I'm so used to kindly loss with ten foot ceilings. I figured might as well turn it into The safer way for those of you who are smart and serious about finding your new home right now while there is an unprecedented time of opportunity for many of you that have been you know saving working hard for years just to be able to get a little bit of a break in the mark. This particular break was not planned. Nobody could have called this morning so if you were looking prior to March a lot of sort of sat back and just sort of waited to see what was going to happen What a lot of you have realized this is what this podcast is about. is there's two. There's two rules that are gonNA come into play about anybody. Who's buying or selling real estate right now in Toronto in the GTE and actually pretty much around the world. The same rules going to apply so number one rule which is the reason you're listening is the golden rule from wave back. Before I bought my property but it was at the forefront of my mind. Was you only make money when you buy? That's that's it so for those of you and I know there's a lot of you out there because I'm getting those emails. I kiss the emails. I'm talking about our people asking me to do a property evaluation for property. They bought last week because they may have seen my dad. Or they may have seen A friend sent it to them to to sign up for they Toronto. Gte Property Protection Program for my VIP clients. Which I do for you guys again. Hopefully the smart ones. I do this before you make purchases and very often just like I did this week. This past week I already said no to two properties as far as what they're what they're values are because you're just not going to get the money back so there's a lot of either pricing still going on and you cannot get caught up in that Web. It's a very very dangerous web. It was five years ago. But it's GONNA be worse five years from now if you make that mistake so let me explain simply as I can because if you can't explain something simply you don't get it and I've been following this principle and explaining this principle for many years. So here's the explanation. Let's talk about a house that you really like you look at it and we'll just use a dollar because it's an easy figure to talk about and remember so let's just say the house is worth a dollar. It's listed for a dollar fifty. Okay if the house isn't worth a dollar or a dollar ten maybe a dollar twenty five and you pay a dollar fifty. You're already possibly losing speed in terms of what the property is supposed to do for you. Because there's a big misconception out there and I know there's a lot of futurists of they're talking about how how is not an asset? Well I have data. That washes that theory now. The data that I have is my twenty plus years of clients that I've helped their net worth statements over those twenty years. The one thing people that aren't in the in the actual field don't understand. Is that although you may not be making active income property if purchased in a smart way will produce long-term income and. I'm not talking about overnight. And then you can withdraw So the principles involved here on the identified apologies. I think it's is gonNA come back but it actually started it again So if it's a bit Wendy That you'll hear but it's awesome so I gotTa love it and you gotTa Roll with Daft all that good stuff so back to what I was saying. If you're in a position where you own real estate there are five key letters that you have to remember that apply so yes. There are outgoing costs. Of course this. That's part of anything to do with real estate now. The five letters that I'm talking about in this explanation has had moved to a quieter. Place is are the letters I D A L. I have sort of taken to calling it. The injury go ideal approach just to keep it just to give it a better ring so the I stands for income now. Not every property will be able to do this but every property should have this built in especially now going forward. Because if you don't have the option to create extra income in times of uncertainty like the last little while if you don't have an opportunity to have that it's very dangerous to have a property that you can't produce income with preferably without disturbing your situation so I'm I'm recommending for that reason for people to actually look a little deeper and a little longer down the line and actually think about five years from now. Do you have family members? You need to think about. Do you have kids? Who are going to be in their twenties. That might need their own places that you don't you don't want that you would rather that they not spend thousands and thousands of dollars on rent. If you've got the property yourself you can decide what they ran for. I say charge them something something that will at least help them get on their feet. So that's the I. The D is for deductions. So when you've got the income coming in You also have the option for deductions now. This is where you can obviously look at. Look all this up and or speak to your accountant about what those might be. The next one is the latter. I D e The the deductions and the next is equity. So here's where the good stuff starts as you are paying down your mortgage you're paying more and more of your The beginning you're paying a lot of your mortgage is interest and not as much principle as you pay it down a gets to be more and more principle and more of that becomes equity which means money that you can access if you need to for other things and that's obviously something that you know. You have to be very cautious about you kind of want to treat the house as a as a forced savings situation which. I strongly recommend you think of it that way. It's a long-term forced savings the last two letters I e a is appreciation so this is one of the biggest best parts about your property. Is that as you are sleeping? Your property is appreciating in value again. Under the circumstances that you didn't over pay to begin with now. This is something that again is such an important part of this whole podcast and in in general that. I'll keep repeating it so as long as you didn't pay a dollar fifty for the dollar house then again. You should be fine but the emails that I get and some some again. This is almost sometimes every week and I got a few this week anyways About this kind of thing. So telly asking me how much the property is worth at just bought with somebody else under one get involved. I know the sale just happened last week. It may or may not close. That's not up to me But if they're already thinking that they pay too much that's not a good thing and and I obviously can't get involved with that the last letter the letter and that is leverage and this is where your property again can get you from And tell the story about this as my way to wrap it up. I've told this one before where I had a client who me almost twenty years ago. Bought his first property put twenty thousand or ten thousand I think down and started his journey on his real estate empire so he started off with the one property. He then took some of the money that he made from the investment. Take some out. Put it into another property. Took some out. Put it into another property. Sold one property.
Sony's Iconic PlayStation 2 Anniversary Will Make You Feel Old
"The. Ps Two was released twenty years ago. This is the twentieth anniversary in Japan. Came out later in North America the twentieth anniversary for the PS two pretty. You Know Important Council the Best Song Council of all time obviously massively influential both good and bad for playstation monasteries. Dvd player ever made. Yeah definitely snuck a few. Dvd's into people's homes. And also I think responsible for a lot that we love about playstation and that led to the Hubris of playstation in the PS. Three era coming off the success of the PS two. But I sorta wanted to talk just at large of this being the twenty th anniversary of its original release. We'll talk more about North America. You feel free to take Loki for a bit. He seems to want to go there. Just what were some of your favorite games on the PS two? What's her memories? Do you have about the? Ps Two that did make it either. A bigger maybe smaller part of your gaming life. Lucie does anything offering well. We're currently updating L. Best playstation two games of old timeless and I wrote the BLURBS for a couple of horror games that have really made that system a very special one for me. One was silent hill to Just because I still believe that is the best Horrigan made. I just think it was the most unnerving realization of of sort of mental anguish. That I've ever seen in the video game. I thought it was an incredible realization of what the original kind of was trying to do. I love the original story about silent. Helter was very much like this is what we always wanted to do. I thought it was weird and bizarre and twisted and kind of made me sick and I loved it so that was that was. I think the playstation to help some really fantastic games is what I'm trying to say. The other one was so hard to explain to people who don't like horror y we get into stuff like this conversation my mom. She goes relation. It's like why do you like? What are you? Put yourself through this? It's great like you get scared roasts down. You're like oh spicy food or hard alcohol stuff wrong with bank. Now I know arisen evil four was of course on other systems as well but I played it on the. Ps Two and for me. That was another game changer. That was my game of all time before bloodborne came along. We don't talk about But yeah it was for me for years before was was the one and I. You know I've I've said I've said this before but resnais will full kind of shocked me in in its openness and I. This is a story that I've told a few times. I forgive me if you've had it but you know when you watch night of the living dead for the first time you see that. Zombie stumbling through the the graveyard in broad daylight and it was just so unnerving because it wasn't broad daylight and it was. It was not bump in the night. It wasn't in the shadowy corner it wasn't like a dimly lit bulb it was it was it was just there and I think what risen even Ford it so well really embraced that tera out in the open where just craziness in a very Over way that was so so very unnerving and of course you know tapped into that horrid Mesquita style of open horrors. Well where it's just suddenly. He's just there with the chainsaw. There's no build up. He's just there no you. You felt like you intruded invaded on somebody else's space it wasn't it wasn't like one of those horror movies where there's something under your bed. Yes leeann shows up in this town and there's like a bunch of people standing around with like some chickens and a cow one of them's like and they start trying to kill you pitchforks genuinely. It's just because it's so just it's so it seems so it's so terrifying because it's almost so anti-climax terrifying they were having a perfectly normal. Spanish parasite festival. Showed up your sheerly jacket with your skype phone. And it was just a wonderful system for games and I will never forget it for that so for me. That's my playstation two memory Max. What about you? Oh metal gear solid two down. I don't know what the summer of two thousand two thousand one would have looked like If there wasn't that demo for M. G. S. two or that was on the horizon around the corner I spent that I've talked about this on the show before. But like I spent most of that summer just just messing around on that tanker mission and just tormenting those poor like Spetsnaz guards and just fighting Olga Gulu Kovic repeatedly And then that final game came out and it's like it's such a I mean it's definitely not what I expected I was. It was not expected to do nude cartwheel's inside a giant super arsenal gear or to fight technical president but there was was it get out its tentacle presents the change we want to see in the world. Yeah that game is like I think it's definitely Pete Kajima but in like a good way And it's weird. How much totally anticipated bizarre information? Warfare and mimetic culture of like. What's the Internet going to do? And then it was like well here. We are I love that. I love that dearly. yeah. I don't know I think that is a beautiful pic. It'll get solitaire is is an incredible game Brian I know you and I had a conversation. You can wash Nigerian dot com about this. But what about for you? What really stands out from the library as a startling gaming memory for you In terms of the Games for me it was definitely the GTE's synonymous with that system. It was one of those things where they they just fell endlessly gigantic and it just fell completely unconstrained in ways that I hadn't really experienced since you know I can't even think maybe like stuff like Mario. Sixty four came close right was it was like playing something where you're like okay. The training wheels are off. I can I can head into this level and I can tackle this anyway. I want just sitting down. Gte and being like. I have one hundred missions to do or or I'm just the devil and I'm going to cause nothing but chaos for hundred hours earlier people with a helicopter. The victimless victimless crime. According to the copy I I just I love that feeling of playing something like San Andreas. And just wrecking show. Like you. Go in your. I often go to the store going to do submissions. And you bump into a one car and some guys like hey and you shoot them. And then a cop's like hey did you see the cop and the forty seconds later. You're like in your boxer shorts on a roof like shooting at tags. Gol Kill all of you like I imagined that methods like where you're just like. Wow this escalated and then you wake up Holly Rolling Camera Spins around. I have no idea where I am now. And you walk back outside and you're like Oh my God that's Weird Hospital Anyway High. Like I love that. There's really nothing else like that. And more and more open world games have have captured that and recapture that. But like that is that is the. Ps Two era for me is playing big crazy insanely violent cinematic rockstar games.
Where's Canada's worst housing crisis?
"Wrote on P. is rental market not the type of thing You think about all that often Being out here in Toronto whether you're Vancouver Montreal but it's a It's a a pretty wild place I would say so. Tell me about even just one of the typical kind of stories. You hear from renters right so I've heard quite a bit from families out in Pi and they've been having a ton of trouble for years now. it's a really tight rental market not a lot of spaces particularly larger spaces. If you need three bedrooms. Let's say and they they really just can't find very much at all So UC on facebook all the time families pleading for any sort of tips on vacant units. They find themselves weeks away from Homelessness Day call apartment buildings month after month looking for something and invariably they hear that there's just nothing available. Can he give me some context Just in terms of how tough is it there. In terms of vacancy rate and and how difficult it is to get into these places to have numbers. Yeah absolutely so. If view all the way back to two thousand thirteen the apartment vacancy rate was about seven percent. That's pretty high. It's you know the type of rate where if you need you to place your there's GonNa be some options for you fast. Forward five years to two thousand eighteen zero point three percent so like nothing pretty much nothing yes and The there was literally nothing for three bedroom. Pi's at small enough place that you can count the vacant units quickly so circa twenty eighteen gene Given all the apartments that they have that means they're eighteen available apartments on the whole island so things improved a little bit in two thousand nineteen up to one point two percent vacancy but still the lowest on a provincial basis. It's still a really tight market. There's not a lot available. I mean the thing that really really grabbed me about this is that those are numbers worse than or even maybe now on par with you know the numbers we hear out of Toronto and Vancouver where these are the biggest biggest housing crisis in Canada. And how do people react. I mean you're based in Toronto when you put together a piece explained that no actually. The worst housing crisis in Canada is out east in Cranston Rhode Island. I think it's mostly surprise. You know when when you're based out in these cities you you tend to think you know this is where everyone wants to live in Candida. Therefore there's a ton of competition but in fact I mean there's there's a lot that's going on beneath the surface in. Pi Driving this when people hear about it from year here. We just think it's a place where you go on vacation or something but you know there's a lot of people living and working there and it's it's really tough and people they don't don't realize it mostly what are those underlying things that are driving The scarcity of rental units one big thing is population growth Pi. Okay I has grown a tremendous amount over the past say four or five years on top of that. There's just not been a lot of apartments built. I mean Pe- I compared with say here in Toronto where we're sitting Real estate market is You know prices are a little more modest. Let's say so you know years ago you'd have a lot of options for detached housing under one hundred and fifty thousand dollars Yes so you know developers is there there. They weren't really building apartment. Because you know someone with a middle class. Income Housing was pretty affordable for for ownership right. So that makes sense but then you get years. I'm not really building apartments. An influx of a ton of people and home prices have gone up quite a bit you know for a detached housing. Typical detached housing went up forty percent over over the past year. So now what used to be. Affordable isn't for a lot of people they need to rent and they haven't been building rentals so start with the first problem And I guess it's a really good problem for a place like P I have. Where did the growth in population come from right so The previous liberal government. They're made population growth with a key part of their economic plan. And really. That's that's a good thing right. You know when you're looking at any of the Atlantic provinces. They're really old. They need to get younger. They I need people. In a place like newfoundland their populations decreasing They desperately need people pe- I saw this and they said we got a ramp up these numbers so they started bringing in a lot of people that are entrepreneurship programs to bring in people from outside of Canada the trying to lure native islanders back to Pi. He is well so you know the numbers sound almost kind of funny over the past four years. Pi's population has increased by thirteen. Eighteen thousand. So that's just a fraction of what you would get in a given year and say the GTE shortly but thirteen thousand. That's nine percent increase over four years. That's nearly double the national rate of growth the highest growth of of any province over that spin so thirteen thousand is a big deal on an island of you know give or take a hundred and fifty thousand sure. That's a rough equivalent of that in Toronto would be what like three hundred three hundred fifty thousand people that span yet. Just you know if you were to blow it up Toronto wise I mean it would just be. We wouldn't know what to do with all those And what about the second challenge. I mean you mentioned that Now that houses are more more expensive some people are being forced to rent. Where's the new inventory coming from? Because again you think about how the bigger cities solve these problems like journal can throw up six new condo towers hours right. The developers are all over it. How does that work on an island with limited Limited resources but also just like space. Yeah there are definitely you know. The government airman has responded. There are more affordable units that are starting to come to market. They're throwing millions of dollars at this but A lot of what we're seeing. That's coming on and lot of develop developers are starting to reactor saying we need. There's a huge potential here for rentals. We need rentals but a lot of those are going to be at market rates right so P I like a lot out of a lot of provinces has rent control which for tenants is great. Because you know more or less that your rent increases year to year are going to be pretty limited. Let's I'd say around inflation two percents or so. But when a unit is vacated or a new unit comes onto the market the landlords can set it where they want right so the new listings. That are getting come. Available available in a lot is going to be a market rate. They're going to be a pretty high rate so the average rent in. Pi is somewhat modest. It's like you know nine hundred dollars that includes people who've been under rent control. It's they've rented an apartment for twenty years right on the island. But the new stuff you see you know fifteen seventeen eighteen hundred dollars for pretty modest accommodations so when you talk to people. They're either people who were trying to render. Just people who've lived there for quite some time. Where where are they feeling the squeeze and and what do they think the government should be doing one thing that you hear a lot from people? They're they're they're they're squeezes in a few different directions. One is that I'm just tons of families families that are unable to find the space so families of five. There are crowding into two bedrooms. As I mentioned earlier for three bedroom vacancies couple years ago there was literally nothing available so finding the space for families is has been a real challenge. Another one that I've heard about quite a bit is for students for Upi about about ninety percent of their housing is off campus. The only have a few hundred beds on campus. But what. I've been hearing from students that they're competing with the short term rental market a lot so sites it's like Airbnb. The touristy is still going in September when school starts so a lot of students are having to double up with other people who happen to have apartments wade out. The tourism season. Then get a rental for October. So there's quite a bit precariousness that you're seeing at the start of the school
China wants to ban foreign computers and software from government offices
"This week in the Financial Times suggests that China might be moving to ban all foreign in computer hardware and software from government agencies and public organizations within three years now the US has also banned Chinese manufacturers gte not e and walk away from US telecom infrastructure. But this would be a much broader move. China's move could hurt companies like Intel or Dell or Microsoft or HP. But what's tricky here is that China doesn't really have the technology to replace a lot of the software trying to kick out. Rob Atkinson is president of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation. It's a DC based think tank. And I I asked him. How big a deal is this? Well the key thing is for star they are they a serious which it looks like they are the same question. Are they going to be successful if they are successful. It is a big deal because the government controls a large share. The economy's not just just the Chinese government itself but it's all the state owned enterprises and if they extend this towards them that's a huge loss to US companies both at the hardware hardware and the software level. It's not clear that they're going to be able to do it but if they do it. It'll mean a significantly less business in China for US technology companies. Why why it when you say? It's not clear whether they'd be able to do it. Why wouldn't they be able to because there just aren't any alternatives? Well they have more alternative on the hardware side author example Lenovo which is computer maker and wow and they make servers and computers but it's on the software side that China has long men week and continues to be weak. They don't really have a viable enterprise software program System Oracle or personal computer operating thinks system like Microsoft so if they try to substitute those with Chinese companies. They'RE GONNA they're gonNA basically have inferior technology for many many years and they may just not care about that but that is going to be one of the harms. They're going to get to their economy if they go down that path and then China has claimed that this move would be rooted in national security concerns much the way the US has avoided Chinese companies while way. Do you believe those are the motivations here if anyone believed that I have a bridge to sell you. There's just simply no way. That's the motivation. Chinese play. That card ever since snowden. They know that's an effective card for them to defend what are is essentially a protectionist agenda. There's simply no way that this is a national security thirty issue other countries all around the world use. US operating systems and other kinds of software with absolutely no problem. This is just a ruse by the Chinese to defend Protectionism and then how much would a move like this. Actually I mean you said that you know for a brief period of time things would really be inefficient or delayed because China simply doesn't have the software infrastructure long-term. How much would this help the Chinese tech industry and then would it is there? Possibility becomes a global technology powerhouse so the Chinese strategy is pretty simple really when you think about it and they use it in every advanced technology industry the first is to acquire foreign technology hooker by Crook Crook oftentimes By Crook The second once they have that technology is to build up their domestic champions through things like big subsidies limiting foreign earn competitors. And that's what they're doing in this case limiting foreign competitors once they get that Though the next step is for them to what they call going out and they they then subsidize as their companies to go out to third markets like Kazahkstan or mean Bolivia or whatever it might be. They're not going to attack us in our market. They're not going to attack us in in Europe or Japan initially but I wouldn't put it past them to use the subsidies in the one belt one road program. They have to tie those subsidies to buying Chinese software or Chinese computers For for their government agencies in those countries. They're a long long way off though from ever being able to the challenge the US software companies. They're not very good at it but that doesn't mean they're not gonNA try and they might not be successful in some lower income developing countries.
Surface Duo first look: Microsoft's foldable Android phone
"Big surprise surface duo a phone. It's a phone and you can you can fold it all the way around screens and the outside and just use the phone running android two displays right now. There's a snapdragon eight fifty five in there. We all suspect the by the time this thing launches called a twenty twenty. They'll they'll go to the next generation rationing of stamps Reagan's but right now it's fifty five. We've seen companies screw that up or they like they announce it way ahead of time with a relatively processor like oh the they'll fix that by the time at launches is and they don't so. I'm not one hundred percent confident that this won't be running a stab eight eight fifty in holiday two thousand twenty more than a year from now. It's it's back and forth because penicillin us on the show yesterday the hardwares lock. This is the third generation it's locked. We're announcing it early. Developers have it in a couple of months because we want them to build absence still Sri and stuff off and then sort of like whispers around the edges the event were when it wants like we'll see that's a real question yeah but we Panos said on the show on the record Australia astray hardware slot. This is what's as like the form factor of the design and everything yeah. I said well the hardware said notices it will the chip inside change. I think openair it's beautiful. I say I held one yesterday. I actually held Panos if you listen to the show you like hands it to me and you can hear me almost like runaway links except how scroll through Android on it opened the notifications shade like I used the thing it is. I love it. I love it and I know no. It's not it's got a big team. In the middle. passes like we're leaning into the seem. The interface does cool things with the seem like window snap to it. It's like that's that part of. It's neat right. He's like the same help structure windows on the interface structure displays. If you have a window that spans across it the wind even the content inside of the window. Oh he showed me a calendar up so even like calendar events and you like drag to create a calendar event snapped the wind. It's neat. I'll try to think as someone who has done some some bad. CSS In my time what sort of CSS would accommodate that well. I guess there's not there are they're invisible pixels under the seve or the displays no it's it's just two different displays and a hinge android ten specifically is designed for multi screen devices races when they announced it had a whatever they announced it back in March and it's Q. and then I got an early look at it every time I went to talk to Google about android ten. They're like an IT works better with multi screen devices and I was like cool. You know the galaxy fold is a dumpster fire right and they're like yeah but it works. Multi screen devices work really hard and I'm like why hey there's. LG Yeah we'll we'll get to that but Google has worked not just Samsung but with Microsoft to build support for multi-screen into the logic of android itself and you can actually see a hint of that right now on the fold where you can have a thing on the outside screen open it up and the whole APP appears on the inside screen just re sized The you can also see hints of this and all the work they did to make android apps work better on chrome or you can recite them and they can have arbitrary arbitrary window sizes without having to reload All of that stuff works like folds right into full. It's right into the surface duo because you can apps are now aware that different screens exists and they should do different things depending on what screen they're on and what screen they're being sent to and so it makes perfect sense that it. Mike just figure out how to have a calendar you hit a thing on one screen and then something within the same APP happens on the other screen or another APP knows to open on the screen because they basically basically told Google and Google said cool. Let's let's try and minimize fragmentation here. Use these tools to do it and so it's a mix of custom. Microsoft stuff but also stuff that's built into android enjoyed other people might be able to take advantage of now that acts on the GTE thing you're talking about. was a dual screen phone. It folded the other way. and you know it was like it didn't it wasn't aware of the the the gap it wasn't aware of the hinge and so everything new split across it like kind of bad ways. I think the hope is that the dual avoid a lot of those problems so this is. Maybe a little weedy but okay. I've got my email on one side and my calendar on the other side right classic to APP scenario. Now I want to send an email on the left side and I clicked new email. Let's let's say opens on the left side right but a counter still open on the right side but now I turn it and I've got this big wide keyboard which looks pretty like a nice situation. Then right is all going to work automatically. Is it GonNa know which apple I want to be on the top of which one I want to become a keyboard. DVD does it remember that kind of stuff unclear unclear there are million things they could get wrong here and apple by the way got a bunch of these things wrong and IPAD so at least. I'll be interested to see if Microsoft doesn't Yeah I've been given how much to talk about about flow and putting people in their productivity flow flow just conceptually. I hope their thing in this stuff through. I mean one of the justifications does he gave us for dual screen is important was like we hooked people up to brain activity sensors and measured. How much more brain activity is when. There's two screens which which is cool. I don't want to take away from the fact that's cool. It is very Microsoft right like why does Microsoft. No this is good because they generated a bunch of data that it says it is and then at the very end of it. It's like this is crazy. Sifi right like how many screens should you have as many as the brain scans. Tell us you should have and I wonder if like more more is better like you're GonNa get a four screen device four times activity and that brain thing is I mean like I have different modes of productivity. I have like my sitting with one big window. Open concentrating on one thing and then I have my my duel window setup and like you know like a dealer. You're saying I think this last week about the IP operate system. They're sort of a mix of spatial and time. Kinda hurts you so like if if having multiple screens or multiple pains or multiple sections is inconsistent inconsistent that is more work for your brain yeah and I love the thing about we're using the two displays and we're going to structure that that implies. There's like there's spatial metaphors. He's here not chronology metaphors but having held the thing for you know the brief moments. We got to hold it and swipe through it one. It's real it works. It doesn't it's it's hot fake. It's not just like a little piece of paper. Yup which is like companies do that to us. The version of android on it appears three lightly designed so that the icons under square the navigation shape looks with different. They're they say they're working with Google closely. They would not answer our questions about Ah Google letting you do stop and Panos was like letting conversations partnering conversation which is definitely some corporate executive talk. There's a lot to unpack there. I looked at he showed me on the screen. Google searches the default on this side but a bunch of Microsoft stuff is on the home screen of the interface on this side being searches there but Google APPs get to be the default in some cases. "Okay with that warning. We're showing up soups. We're Shona a boobs giggle, their classy boobs, boobs you right? Then aren't offensively law realistic someone might be upset that we Omar. Well this more were for him later. I guess. Yeah. Also did. I read the sponsors if not that you did best based on upside. Excellent. I'm glad the thing that impressed me the most I think this time around was okay, the moment that I got the most excited about like in the first Emma was him like nineteen into the wall. Because urging there. Yeah. This time was the bike like as soon as they went I post and view on the bike, because you can also ride Bickel side, pus. And it's the only thing when you can. And it was just blasting since it was just like, oh, this is going to be so cool forgot that the game's going to have a soundtrack and those which would have Sandra, we're all gonna love that. I keep forgetting that it is like GT a RPG basically, it is very much GTE to me if I would describe it to someone like, is it like the witch is it like people have asked me, if it's like dragging, it's like GTE to me a lot. But with like stats. And. Diverging quests. So just all g GTS on. But like to that point to where it, sometimes it feels like it might be less than the Witcher in the sense where sometimes no matter what the story is gonna take you down a path. So we talked about it in daylight as spoilers for the beginning of the game is going to happen. But there's a part where guy tells you bet he's your mission target or whatever. And then he does the thing where he says. No, I'm they're going to betray you. And then you can choose like inside with this guy. Arkansas had with my employers may go busy. Oh, no fuck you, you hack into his brain, and then you get betrayed anyway. Oh, he was right. He told the truth. But it was a story beat because the story, then progress after that, that hit a major plot point. So fills like that's going to happen. No matter what. Because then you had to go meet this one person, and then you, you're introduced to like, kind of the main thrust of the story of like that might have just happened differently. If you had the other way round. Yeah, not really sure, but, like I imagined the crash that happened is basically V crashes because everything's a system an. Reboots which is also just a very cool thing that I feel like the whole time of playing through this game. It's dumping, Laura. This is going to be fun. You got a guy like brain fried, if somebody's connected, you can, like microwave their brain, if they're connected to the internet, but he managed to reboot, what she shouldn't have been able to do. So when he's like weird cool chat, Kiana roofs chip. Yeah. So when he goes back to the people, a seed, yes. Wait a minute. And like holy fuck. You're alive. Yeah. Yeah. It's so. Yeah, you can theorize about that stuff. Because you're right. Because then you go to meet another lady, who's like super into the deep web, or whatever. Cyberspace, of course and the goal is to find the first person who digitize their consciousness and transcended into the internet. 'cause they might know about the stupid chip in your head. They had a name on encampment. Yup. The first woman to ever transcend in except weirdly that happened like fifty years ago in cyberpunk cannon. And I think I mean Johnny silver hand has also like way from the past is just as digital goes lawyers..

"But it's really interesting that you're taking it and use it to release ascertain some information about how it is affecting people in how could be used as kind of an educational backdrop. Absolutely. It's also fertile territory in that the demographic that I work with and and the participants in my study don't actually have a lot of exposure to other races, particularly African American youth. They're fairly sort of isolated in a predominantly white culture. So the way that they access race is largely through media and their conver. Sations about race are not just a from media. But also shaped by media. So it's really fascinating about the study is that when white male youth exists in operates socially, largely nice elation from from the African American culture that has you know, sort of a significant representation in the game. It's one of the few genuine launchpads to have these types of conversations. So so it's really meaningful to meet them where they're shaping. Their perceptions of race in the relationship to raise and start unpacking their views based on that. And and that's really valuable. I think because video games are medium that most people don't understand. And there's not a lot of context around it like, you know, in comedy movie or comedians, and they might make comments about rays, and there's like a context for you know, what that means. And. What's acceptable? What's not acceptable? You know, obviously, there's lots of fights over that. But at least there's some measure of context, whereas in video games, there's not really such thing as a comedy game. I mean, I guess they exist, but there's not that same context of like was his game being serious is this game being a parody in. What is going on in this game? This is especially important to think about with respect to the idea that we're trying to push games forward in trying to have games treat things seriously trying to find a context for how games are trading seriously. How games can be parody. I think they're trying to find those lines, or at least some I dunno some some guidelines or some language use around. It could be really valuable. That's obsolete at particularly the language around it to to have what you know what I call the critical apparatus to build the critical apparatus for them to think critically about not just this game. But the tools that. For example, that we accessed in order to think about GTA five in what I would consider a more meaningful way, those tool stay with these young men for the rest of their lives and they start seeing. Wow. The way that women are being represented in GTA five is actually terrible without redemption. I would argue that GTE five does a pretty good job of creating sufficient irony around issues of race that you could you could see it as as valuable social critique on one level. But with the representation of women, I don't see it. There's not enough parody or irony to really undermine it to to give the cues to the to the audience to really think. Wow. The way women are being representatives really negative. And as a result of that. I think that that context is crucial and pretty much in the use any use of a commercial video game in an education setting, which is something I'm really interested in the success of that project. Largely depends on. On how you contextualized the.

"North was GTA Rockstars sandiego was red dead. But then with GTE five and now red dead to that kind of change a little bit. And particularly in the run-up to those games launches. We don't know the inner workings of those studios, but we do know that resources from all over rockstar worldwide or pulled into getting these games finish getting the wash. Now does that mean that all of rockstar north was, you know, working on red dead or only certain? -partment certain teams in the rest of the company has been cranking. GTE five was gosh. Six years ago thirteen with then you have to consider online because those are constantly being developed right now. Now, there's two games in development constantly, read online and g tail lines. Like a lot of work to read that they asked generate. I was gonna say the I wouldn't be surprised if they moved into maybe read dead on PC this year. You think that that would be almost assuredly up the thing that would happen? But I think maybe next time twelve months February. Reminder, the original red dead never came to right? Yeah. GTE five did though this game is like begging for Mods like moths to fix things right to make the game play better and improve it. And then Mods to just like do crazy stuff with that. Like beautiful world. I'm in. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe we will. I you know, I said it at the top. I'm like oh man's way too soon for rockstar game. But depending on how much rockstar north was not pulled onto onto red dead. It could completely be plausible that that you know, GTS could be closer than we think. Or maybe it is another five years away. I dunno and take two two k and rockstar. And so two K has borderlands game. He's come out to right. Well, hasn't even been hasn't even been unveiled. There's no Borland throughs in development even seen. We've even seen video of it. Yeah. Like last may have been more like a tech. Okay. That's also game that they're publishing from gearbox. Right. Yeah. And then obviously two K sports is doing a lot to help you year after year. But bioshock you feel I think bioshock in borderlands are more likely than rockstar game. But who knows Jake underground this time? What do you mean underground will they did under the water, and they did in the sky in bioshock? Yeah. That's all let's like a SeaWorld dig. L? They gotta go underground. They don't have a choice. We'll rockstar like his office a lot. But like I would love just to stay like a standalone fantasy game like Skyora style Rockstars never done fantasy. Have you know, they are always I think they're kind of they probably are going to run out of parody ideas for the real world for now in the wild west. Which is what those games are about, you know, and and movies to emulate and stuff like that. And where do you go from there? I love to see just a standalone like make up everything fantasy open world game from them. I think they should do the bay area. They write some of that. GTE right syndromes. Yeah. This one is a little unusual from says Ubisoft land of this year will include four AAA titles..

"Always winds up being in this is an ongoing problem with art education and with with schools, cutting music programs and cutting programs because it's not as important as learning stem stuff. And you know, that's again, this is yet another huge galaxy brain question because we're getting into the fundamental nature of art, which to me is the reason to live in the first place. So it's actually far more important than all. Of those practical things. But right. I mean, it it it. I don't know if Peter new system better. I don't know if there's ever been a good system for creating art. One of the mazing things about art is that art exists in the face of all of that, and so much more. I mean, that's why it's like magic that anyone makes this stuff to begin with. And you know, here we are in the galaxy rain. I don't even know how to get us back down to talking about grunge, but but I'm not even sure any of that is useful for this specific conversation. Right? As interesting as it is. We've. I mean. It's interesting that we're talking about art in the context of red debit option to which is the next game from the people who may not only an artistic were like a work of art with GTE five, but also the most profitable. He's most profitable piece of inter tamen ever. So this is like if games live on me, intersection of art and commerce than like like GTE as the biggest house on that intersection. This is the the biggest thing because I think it's undeniable that GTA and I mean any video game. Sure. But GTI is is a piece of art. You look at it and its artistic in so many different ways from so many different levels, whether it's on the same axes, every other video game. Really? Yeah. Absolutely art. Yes. And it's also the most. It's also this huge work of product and commerce has made many people, many millions of dollars. So yeah, it is an interesting kind of case study and flashpoint for this discussion of crunch. And I'm curious to see what what sort of reactions we see as a result of more of this conversation coming out. And hopefully when I publish this piece that drives them conversations, I actually wanna pivot a little bit and talk about like how fans should address this. And I actually think we just got an interesting Email that do you wanna read it. It's from Neil about this question, what what should fans do? So I can you read this? Yes. This is from Neil reading in like I am engine. Most screen listeners have been anxiously awaiting read that redemption to the gunfights the train heists shriveling horse balls all of it. Well, maybe not the last one, but the semi boasts this past week from rockstar about working multiple. Our weeks is kind of giving me pause. I don't know how I feel about buying the game knowing that I'm basically supporting the coating equivalent of a sweatshop take to Rockstars parent company as we're thirteen billion dollars right now, plus whatever else they make, when ribs into launches could not afford to hire enough people to make sure they weren't overworking their employees. I thought the discussion with Stephen last week with grades the discussion about micro transactions and it again it again raise the important question of is sixty dollars too little for a triple eight game, especially now having this glimpse behind the curtain at what what it takes to make these sorts of games is there a point they gamers have to make a moral stand so that the people that are making the games are treated fairly game, like a witch three made with polish labor laws requiring overtime, pay shows that games can be made without backbreaking crunch or at least is backbreaking crunch that there is well compensated, curious, thoughts on are able. Yeah, arguable I know kurkin, Mattie, touch on this while Jason was out, but I would love to hear all three of you discuss this, what it might mean for the industry moving forward, should we as consumers be buying free range, organic game. Or should we feel okay with the factory firm.

When I when I board other ships, I'd just get on the ship and start kicking everyone off. Kick him off. Everybody tries to go light that brassiere call reinforcements, which I thought and hate them mechanic. I hated and like shadow of it's great, I know, but it's so fucking aggravated with somebody lights that thing. You can use the distance assassination if you're undetected, I don't yet have that. Oh, that's k- stuff. I just jump up there and kick that fucker. I saw a video from someone playing Spiderman when they were riding a bike and they were able to decide, k, I didn't know you could ride a bike in that can't wait. Okay. GTE motto think. Okay. Okay. They were saying the gift was posted for Jif gif understand think which one I said. Explain to actually every time I said. But yeah, I think it was posted as being. This is why everyone's playing Spiderman and they showed that appreciate it was GT. Okay. Yeah, because our chat would probably be playing all of Spiderman and I never got on a fucking never some combination of the two where people were. He was riding a bike and kicking people like side kick off, the bridge, it looked fun. It was great play that game. That makes me one planet. Yeah. I, we're thinking though it's like because it's such two games that are such a big deal to Bruges achieve specifically via achievement. Hunter are Minecraft on the XBox. Never once played it. I think a loaded up once in load up, but I've never played Minecraft anything, but the PC. And then when his GTA never played online, I played online for like two minutes. I don't know what to do. "One did. Yeah, I think that's going to easily. And at the end here he says, they're going to make their way back games about when people don't get the wild west Getafe. I thought they were getting. I do think we're going to get the wild west UTA. Five. I don't think that that has the same ceiling that GTE five did for all the reasons that you were saying? Yeah, I think that the red that online is going. To be the big question for me of how goofy does it get? How many, how much crazy shit do they add because that is the stuff that's key people playing for years to come. Sure. I'm sure rockstar has an answer for all, but yeah, in to what you're talking about IDE and it's going to be the customisation options. You see GTE five right of having any car you want having to leans having you batmobiles like that? Yeah. How do you do that in red dead setting? Right and not sacrifice the awesome you're going for and that things they could easily do that. That's just. Well, I think that the online stuff is going to evolve, and I would be very surprised if didn't have some like crazy analyst field shock of like, yeah, and then online. It's literally we were added cars, why the fuck not. Yeah. I know that's crazy. But I mean they can do whatever they want and that that is the thing of what GTE Online's success was volved into players wanted in, you know into what people were successful with and Rockstars minute open about that. Right. And talking about, well, we delayed hice forever. But while we were doing that, we're seeing how people are actually using the service and then making content built around that. Yeah. So if it is that people get in there and want goofy or crazier, whatever online things, I'm sure you'll see more and more of that is warranted nightmare. And I'm sure you'll get. I'm interested in where this game's gonna fall critically, like I think it's going to do really well. Everyone has played it. Absolutely loves it, but it's they've haven't played too much of it. And this is how the game is gonna be in that ten conversation, or is it going to be more of a low nine, which sounds stup- there's a big different. What do you think would bring it down from from what you're seeing? What would be the pain points or the red flags for you? I don't know. I just think that you know, we've seen a lot of really well done open world games. Yeah. So this, is it going to be this revolutionary change? I don't think so. And GT. Five got a lot of tens. My thing is I, I have not played red dead redemption to. I've only watched the trailers and talk to Jared or stuff like that. I feel you say we've gotten a lot of open world games from what every talks about the way they present this game. It does feel like this revolution in open world games where it will be more of what I want out of them of. It's really get lost in the experience, right? Whereas in as playing right now, it is a very thing of like, I'm gonna do story mission. You know what I'm gonna look around for a sink points. You know what to do that. When I look at the red footage when I talked to, we played read that it seems way more of going to be out in the open west, and I am on my goal to go, you know, to go over here, these people, but on the way that happens all more or feels like it's breathing. Yeah, I, the stories are all interwoven in a way that your traditional open world. I guess my thing is a lot of this sounds vary PRI it's just I, hey, we're telling you how to feel about this. And I think that with the amount of the game that people have played so far, it's it's easy to be like, oh, said this, and it's here. So I wonder as a potentially endless experience. But let's say thirty. Our experience is gonna consistently feel that way, or are you going to eventually start to see the video gaming of it all to psych? I well, it's not saying points, but it is the shame collecting doing this. I don't know. I don't either. I trust them. I trust the rockstar with doing with it. Are gonna deliver something that is modern. You know and set the standard. Like what?.

"They might very well just be like here's a new new yeah yeah we'll we'll see very close three we'll know everything next news story this comes from gamespot more battle royale gta five rockstar has rolled out another batch of content for grant that dotto five along with a new selection of in game bonuses and discounts the developer has introduced a new battle royale inspired adversary motor gt online called trap door which is available to play now on ps four xbox one in chap door pits teams against each other on a floating platform that is shrinking rapidly throughout the match sounds very unique each time a player's killed their transported to the red zone with the given only a few seconds to escape to the main platform before the zone disappears and dumps everyone within onto the ocean the to commemorate the launch trap door everyone who participates in the new mode in the next few days will receive extra bonuses from now until may twentyfirst trapdoors paying out the double the usual amount of gte money and are you can jump into the mode either from the boot screen or by setting away point to the featured adversary mode so k five still has a fairly robust online community full of players and a credible variety of things to do most of which are these kind of instance focused modes like this i mean if you want to drive around hot wheels cars on tracks in the sky you can do that and gte five now it is moved so far beyond being gte game it's just a sort of playground for choose your own adventure third person to first person shooter adventure driving flying a really kind of unique things never quite like it and so it's i think they were wise enough to be like well how do we make a battle royale inspired mode that's going to be.

"Lower tariffs on agricultural products from the us which is obviously a huge support base for trump and that's one of the loudest group against the terror because they've been obviously hit by soybean paris by by china and that's one of the top exports basically from the us in china so is there a deal kind of in the works here be call everybody it will all work out essentially exactly as you remember a couple weeks ago i guess the treasury secretary led mission to china there with the go heating objective really was based on a fundamentally think of china's economic model the lead model and so if they're insecure that's coming down the line it's hard to know whether that will actually kind of get at chump talking point which is china needs to reduce the trade deficit with us there needs to be a shift of the model so that there isn't the inflexible property a lot of these core issues favors he'll between gte and some agricultural products better access for us exports into china you know that wouldn't hit at those issues so that might that might cause a question of would be enough for trump to to fill it he's gotten a good enough deal that these trade imbalances with china he can just check that off his list of trade grievances team like it should or would like we're gonna have to feed.

"So you want you said you what the game play more fast paced is what you're saying with the first one i was kind of clunky because he had the radio like it was basically how gt fives radio handles now but it seemed a little more like rigid yes and so that's something you'd like to see fix more guess pro i i would like to see just a lot more i think you fixes and small tweaks to the gameplay overall smoother which is what i assume they're going to do bring it to a new generation because i think that maybe it was because of the limitations of the old generation that they weren't able to work out the kinks and maybe that maybe that's why tribute to slower game play but i'm usually a person who likes you know if i don't mind if you're game place lacking if your story is good but five been spoiled the story then there's no point then if you're gameplay sharp i i think everything getafe five is fucking fun i think the online is a great addition and that's the first eta possess andrey that i really really loved so i have a feeling that this'll be a great game and as long as they do those small little tweaks something that you brought up you said a gto online which obviously you're not in first of all why you watching the show have you don't know anything about gte live but with gte online you can actually go online play with your friends in the same world of saint injuries that you play when you're playing with the three standard story characters but you get to go on highs to do a whole bunch of other things which is something i'm assuming they're going to be doing and here because like with rockstar keeping my we'll get another gta game and probably about ten years because they still they're making so much money off gt that's still like the top ten selling games and that game the remastered has been out for what like a year and a half now i like i don't understand how how they manage to spike up this crazy until they tie.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed Again, Coming In October
"I was like oh man far cry five more granted got war is what came in in rock the boat but that's what's going to happen the tomb raider jim raider gonna drop in september would know is it tober is that wanted this number see figure i'm probably still playing spider man trying to platinum that i'm getting ready for whatever's coming in october into the i'm getting ready for red dead like that sounds like a game that i'm going to play a little bit and enjoy and not unless it catching me off guard and the guys feeling end up switching on this but i'm actually not that excited for red this doesn't surprise me to me like i loved red dead one but it's like i'm happy with that experience i don't necessarily need to read that to your red dead redemption i'd ever i never played revolver but yeah i might cool i'm good with that open world games aren't your gene that is well yeah i dunno i'm feeling when it comes out it's going to be if it is as good as people expected to then it'll probably suck me in but yeah right now it's this trailer it's like i don't really care to see it like i'm hoping it's cool and as a fun song and his hype around come on rockstar doesn't make sure those any hype they do sometimes on crazy a lot of them to make really hype on some of those gte five.
More Evidence Suggests Red Dead Redemption 2 Will See the Return of a Familiar Face
"Yeah yellow should make money walk yellow she makes money moves okay i have not heard of boardwalk although with without are you saying there's surprising that no this game i don't think it's that that crazy i mean we got a very small t's a couple years back yeah this has been years here's my thing about not understand not knowing what it is and this is not me trying to salt dangerous thing it's that he's among the hardest of the hardcore video game people if he's watching a show light kind of funny games daily right if he knows who we are and he's writing into the show and doing different things i would expect that whether you're also seeing to jian gamespot giant bomb etcetera etcetera etcetera every time someone talks about the witcher three cyberpunk feels a tangential mentioned in there but i feel like it's one of those things where it's been so long since we've got concrete info on the game or anything beside the beep you got to be yeah what else do you want it'd be like if somebody didn't no that that there was an adventures game being made i wouldn't be totally surprised even if you're in it it's like there was one mention of it and its share and yeah we talk about it when we're like making predictions for things but it's like it's not like we're talking about daily basis and i think this is about to be extremely real and in every have on for the next year starting eighty three looking forward to seeing what they got up their sleeves where they'll show up for now let's move on to number two on the rope report super simple there's a red dead trailer incoming everybody prepare your holes in amos's they tweeted over there read official trailer number three coming wednesday may second at eleven am eastern cool we're another release date you think we actually get calculation the trailer characters are going to be like how gte you know put out trailers that were really embi yusra while and then finally started having other players talking to you think this is where we're actually last story or is it going to be more sweeping landscapes.

"Yeah red dead maybe like red dead on yeah maybe it's that big is going to bring out a cowboy hat feeling guys aren't ready in terms of first party stuff i'm not holding my breath for the core pok mon or metro games this year i think what we saw last year we might get an announcement for poke him on this we might get news at he three but i do not figuring twenty teen release that being said when you said third parties i totally agree with rockstar i don't think we'll get ready to but i think now is the time for gte five getafe five's going to probably cross one hundred million this year and i think on the back of switch could absolutely blow that out of the water yeah i don't know how gti line would work on switch but i think core gt five could work jusin so that's the thing too is like rockstar has recently re released their sort of sales report did you know displaying all of their sales for gte five across all consoles on and it's done exceptionally well ninety million sold to date which is an insane number we don't think about it it's also i think the most profitable entertainment ever ever made right which is insane and the and they've gone on record to say that they want to hit that 100millionmark they definitely want to get to one hundred million so i mean my best guess would be the best way to do that would be to release on switch now and i would totally be fine getting like just the core gte five experience without gta online roles.
