"You've worked in this area. Why this time and place? Well, I think the 70s were an enormously interesting decade. The 60s still gets more press than the 70s. But I think it was up to, who said that the 70s were that it was the decade when the 60s trickled down to every man that real social changes that were enduring in America. The women's movement, the gay movement, a lot of these things that changed daily lives really belonged to the 70s more than the 60s to some extent even the fulfillment or greater fulfillment of the civil rights movement is a 70s phenomenon more than a 60s phenomenon. So I think it's of definite interest in and of itself. And this novel is supposed to be the first novel in a trilogy. So my assumption is, I guess you'd have to ask friends and himself. But my assumption is he's going to bring this family forward. The Hildebrand several decades. But it's interesting to me to see him writing about the past, which he really hasn't done up until now because for a novelist who is very interested in social issues and who does have these not just descriptive tendencies, but prescriptive tendencies who definitely has ethical opinions about politics about how people live. It's rather tricky to do that in historical fiction because it can only operate to a certain extent allegorically. Historical fiction is deadly if you try to write it as a conscious allegory to show how well that decade, 50 years ago was just like things are today. And if you keep giving the reader an elbow in the ribs, it's just fatal to the novel. He doesn't try to do that. But if he is trying to make points about the current world, via the depiction of a world that's 50 years old, it is trickier. A reader of crossroads will have those moments..

"Most Jim ward story ever Daniel Craig said he goes to gay bars to avoid aggressive men in straight clubs He said he started going to gay bar that is youth to stop getting beat up He said he's been going to gay bars to avoid the aggressive swinging in hetero bars He said one of the reasons I don't want to get in fights I don't get into fights in gay bars that often he says he first started going because he didn't want to get punched on a night out which would have been quite a lot at straight bars I did not realize there was punching bars a lot Didn't you see roadhouse Oh is it Three straight bars like roadhouse Patrick Swayze is no longer there to stop And that was just from sir Sean Connery Yes he also said many straight woman go to bars that cater to gay men so he's able to pick up women Well okay And not get punched He needs to go to Palm Springs pride in a few weeks and walk out of the saar hotel pool in that white bikini like he did walking out of the ocean in that first Bond Well I'm sure no one will bother him Okay He may not get hit but it'll get hit on Well can you see some chairman Schiff please Thank you So when do you think realistically you'll start getting those Trump era White House documents Well I was particularly pleased that The White House said these need to be provided in a timely way to Congress I have no doubt that the Trump administration will continue to try to fight it They may try to litigate over it But I think we can expect the courts to move quickly And here where you have the current president of the United States in alignment with the Congress and a bipartisan request for this information that will undoubtedly outweigh any interest by the former president to cover his capability This is why I agree with Eli stahl and Glen kershner They must also use inherent contempt in.
Who Was Nietzsche and How Did He Influence the Nazi Movement?
"Every soldier that was deployed in world war. One was actually given nietzsche And the german front and so they read this idea of the importance of the will which we're going to get into and this idea of becoming the superman or the overman or the uber manche and then they come back to kind of war torn germany and these ideas kinda laid the philosophical trans Foundation four hitler's most popular speech the triumph of the will. And if you read that speech it sounds a lot like nietzsche's ideas so let's let's work our way backwards from there and so can you just give us some biographical context of who this guy was and how he was able why he published ideas at the time that were so different than some of the metaphysics and philosophy. That was considered to be the consensus. Well he was a prodigy. Who's obviously a german philosopher. He died in nineteen hundred at a very young age of was teaching philosophy. He was trained as a philology which means essentially somebody who studies languages in price to think about their meaning and in one of his works. that gay homo. He tells us that he essentially abandoned his post as a professor so that he can become dot and what he meant by that is that he was horrified by what he describes as buddhism for europe which is just code for certain kind of nihilism. You believe that. Europe in particular has lost its capacity in meaning any kind of sense of identity and he was looking to try to inspire certain aspects of european instance that he thought could still breed some kind of idealism or transcendent that was transcendence that was just essentially close to being buried For example industrial era through strength in a very famous speech entitled the last man speech he is characters. Few strokes mentioned that our soil is still thick enough to perhaps a plant a grants Tree some kind of some kind of the ideal but it's getting a increasingly more difficult to find anyone in the world interested in anything beyond just a here
America Has the Unvaccinated All Wrong
"So the After understand that there is a pathology. Here it's only explicable as pathology in the hatred of people who won't get back then you know what the hatred is about. It's not about their killing people because the they don't even make that argument right. What is the argument. They make oh seventy percent of those in in hospitalized with cova today or not vaccinate him. I don't know how true that is. Because they lie about everything they meaning the other side including doctors of the medical profession is is from fao ci on the cdc on down steeped in lies. So i i have no idea. It's true but in any in any event they're killing themselves that's that would be the worst charge you can make against the unvaccinated if you truly believe that incidentally that anybody ever make the charge you know. They're they're the the percentage of people with aids in hospitals. Who are gay or intravenous. Drug users is about ninety five percent. Anybody ever make that argument and if they did. Weren't they cold haters. But there was no memory in the country at memory. Memory is is gone. People will remember what happened today or maybe yesterday. So what is it. What is it if it's not medical. It's that there are disobedient americans. That's all it is about this obedient. America you will not listen. 'I'm Called by the Gospel to Accept You... That Doesn't Meant I Have to Approve of Your Lifestyle'
"Let's go back to two thousand fifteen when you said that. The supreme court makes this law saying that Two men can get married or two women can get married and it's a funny thing right because we can still say well. I love my gay friends just the way that i love my my friends that they don't work they don't walk with jesus i love them but i'm not going to say that's a good thing i'm not gonna say it's great that you're not walking with jesus i'm gonna love you but i have my conscience won't let me affirm you in that. It is a strange thing that you and i have gone to point our lifetimes. We're not that old but we're the quote unquote law of land has for the first time ever become into to what this says in a very bold way so when that happened because i didn't know you in twenty fifteen how many others who else was boldly speaking about this. You know to be honest with ya. Everybody seems to be silent about all the issues. And so i think because i did come out and say something and nobody else. Was everybody just kind of gravitated to us. And so we had this wave of growth not just in the church but most of all on social media and i tell people look. I'm not a jerk for jesus. I know i'm super demonstrative. About what i believe but acceptance and approval or two very different things. I'm called by the gospel to accept you no matter what you choose to do. That doesn't mean you have to approve of your lifestyle. We speak the truth in love but we can't speak love at the expense of truth because if you just speak love and no truth and it's not loving nor is it truthful and so nobody was really saying anything and i saw the nefarious plan. I said look this is going to open pandora's box and we see now that we're fighting what i call the alphabet colt. Lgbtq b. l. Am the whole deal and so we were right. We were right to say that this is going to open pandora's box. It's always been about the kids and it's about the kids now it's about indoctrination of our young people and so that's where we are and now pastors are like oh my goodness we. We don't want to say anything about it because that doesn't make us loving no the gospel proclaims that we have to call seeing what it is.

Apple Must Allow Other Forms of in-App Purchase, Rules Judge
"Apples expected to real a new iphone today but the biggest update may be in its app store. That's because of a ruling in the epoch versus apple lawsuit which came down in apple's favor with one big exception. A judge ruled that apple does not have to reduce the fees. It charges developers in its app stores. It's currently from fifteen to thirty percent. Fortnight epochs gay may. We're maine's banned from the app store. However because they broke their contract over the judge allowed the divers can use a non apps or payments to get around the apple store fees. That's a big change. It's a big win. Epoch still filed an appeal because it didn't declare apple monopolised etc etc. It's a really interesting ruling and to me. Apple did when they were going in this direction anyway with their previous settlement the week before and more gherman who writes really well about apple was like look. It's not that much money for them. They were going in this direction. Anyway and most people will probably still pick. Apple is the payment system. So what do you think about mark. Gherman swanee guess is your dog walker now anyways Look this was. This is an interesting case of the media deciding. Wouldn't it be more interesting to say. Epic fail for apple right and the reality was it was probably more of a win for our it distills down to it. A lot of anti-trust lawyers on both sides of the issue will say that it being a monopoly as an illegal. It's abusing monopoly power. And what they've said is okay you've minder standing of the ruling is the judge has basically said you've invested a lot. You've done a good job. People get utility from this consumers. Clearly love it. They don't feel angry that they you know they. They have to wait for someone to come installed their cable between the hours of one and five and three months because you have a regulated monopoly. But what they've said is its monopoly abuse. You can continue to charge thirty percent. You can continue to have somewhere between fifty five and eighty five percent market share depending on how you calculated. But we can't do is when someone's downloaded the app. Then decide that all tail activity within the app. You get a commission on their saw that as monopoly
Who Is Exempt From Biden’s Vaccine Mandate?
"Who's exempt from biden's vaccine mandate members of congress and their staff are exempt from biden's vaccine mandate newsweek dot com biden issued two executive orders however biden's order on federal workers applies to the employees of the executive branch the house of representatives and the senate belong to separate legislative branch and the courts judicial branch of the federal government. The plan says quote building on the president's announcement in july to strengthen safety requirements for unvaccinated federal workers. The president has signed an executive order to take those actions. A step further inquire all federal executive branch workers to be vaccinated. Now when you look into some of the commentary regarding this vaccine mandate it's stunning to see how the propagandists in the media. They're not just at war with the unvaccinated which by the way every person starts out unvaccinated like a normal breathing healthy functioning individual. It's the new social caste system you star on yourself. You are the unvaccinated get over here. You're not allowed to our restaurants. You're the unwashed which many of most of whom by the way are black people so here you see again the racism of white liberals in the ruling class that want nothing to do with black people hispanic people but this one clip from sheryl gay stolberg where she says. Look getting vaccine. It's not a personal choice. It's something that we do for the community. Your personal choice ends. Were my right tanaka killed by infectious. Disease begins okay. Well sheryl gay stolberg under that belief by. They're going to use the same sort of narrative to confiscate guns very soon just so we're clear public health. There's no guarantee for you. Sheryl gay stolberg when you get in the car. You might not become one of thirty five thousand automobile fatalities every single year. No guarantee part of life in part of living in a free society means that things might happen to you that you might not expect. That's what a mature society does instead. The new york times health reporter says that there's no personal choice. I'm gonna tell you what to do because of me. Do you notice that the argument here has now flipped. Originally the moral argument that was being made was go get vaccinated for the people around you to save your grandmother to save your grandfather to go save other people or at the very least get vaccinated because you'll be protected however now the argument is changing. Now you have to get vaccinated to protect me
Afghanistan: LGBTQ People Fear for Their Lives Under Taliban Rule
"In afghanistan. The lgbtq community is concerned about the future. Well homosexuality has long been criminalised in the country advocates. Fear the situation. We'll get more dangerous. Under the taliban strict version of islamic rule many members of the community are now in hiding and hoping to flee the country. the world's bianca hillier reports. Chatting With the Authors of 'Change Ringing on Handbells'
"My guest today a teen stuck settling and simon gay who are the authors of two volumes of books on changing on handbells the i was published in twenty twenty and the second is imminent. Can you give me an overview of the first book the basic techniques book how it's structured and what it contains it starts right from the beginning and it doesn't assume any knowledge of changing your handbells or even on tower bells. In fact the eddie chapters would also be a good introduction to the basic principles of changing itself. We hope so. It covers everything from how to find set at handbells have about buying handbells to go about finding people to ring with and then it works through the steps in changing starting from played hunting going through playing ball hand other straightforward methods and in the later chapters it gets up to kenton oxford triple major and finally w. so stop short moving onto surprise methods which will remain subject of volume two but it covers everything up to a standard repertoire including surprise methods aka and tina. Was there anything else that you wanted to add about the book. Yes i volume. The book covers territory that quite few other older books on handball ringing cover what i hope our books stands out as is really starting from first principles so you really have to know nothing about changing. And you don't even have to be a bell ringer to pick this book up and learn to ring bells so it really talks about how to find other ringers. What bell ringing is introduces each method in a lot of detail. At the other thing about it is that it has a lot of really guitar grams. Which simon has done a really good graphics program for a so everything is not worthy in the way older bell ringing. Instruction books are so that. Yeah so we definitely want to point it at a wide audience as possible. Do you get feedback on. Who's reading it. mostly people who are already ringers. And that's probably really. We haven't done. Wider marketing of potential audiences are international groups of tune. Bell ringers for example who might want to branch out into other types of ringing. A lot of people have picked up our books through the promotion. You can order a set at emails. Guitar book for discount and a lot of people have picked up their rigging that way. In the lockdown there have been more sales of our book because of the lockdown than might have been

California Parents Rise Up After Teacher Suggests Students Pledge Allegiance to LGBTQ Pride Flag
"Have to ask a question jennifer. Because it's it's news for me it's conservatives like but in california this story of this teacher who asked her students to pledge allegiance to the gay pride flag. Is that a story a tool or is that kind of buried. No it's actually become a story. This is what people don't realize in california. I think they're really underestimating. That there are a lot of moms who are fueling. The recall of gavin newsom. Because they are so disgusted with where the school system is and You know a lot of them. Were really given a wake up call during the pandemic when they were watching their kids become educated and these stories are coming out. They are making news now. They aren't front page headlines but you can find them which i think is a good thing in california and here's the wonderful thing school board meetings anything where parents can get involved the pta meetings. They're blowing up. I have a friend who was always kind of a republican but never really got involved and this last year with critical race theory with stories about these teachers running amok. She has started to go to oliver. Pta meetings to the school board meeting. She started to organize other moms to do the same thing so that they can go and rally against critical race theory and mandatory mask mandates. The children go just elementary school. And it's picked up power. She told me when she first started this that it was fifty fifty people on both sides of the aisle kind of protecting critical race theory against it. The same thing with the mask mandate now. She said that her side of the aisle is starting to really increase in size. And it's picking up a lot of momentum and
What Needs To Happen for Newsom To Get Recalled?
"So let's just go through. If if gavin newsom gets recalled what would be the areas that have to do that. You'd have to have kind of the gay base in san francisco not turn out right. I'm not saying that pejoratively. It's just what it is right. You have to have the hispanic hispanic base in kind of la not turn out right and then you need to have a suburban one one eighty right. You need to have kind of the westwood yoga. Moms and the brentwood won't yoga moms. I mean and kind of like the pasadena. Professors be like not going to happen. And the reason i'm saying this though is that this really isn't uphill climb in california. You need like five different domino's to fall on my right. Yeah that that's a very realistic. I mean it's. It's good that we do that with viewers and listeners be realistic. It is a very steep hill to climb but the things you just mentioned we did see possible which is why it was close in. La for instance. Fifty one percent of hispanics told us in l. a. that were going to vote You know he should. He should trounce The opposition in la should eat at least thirty points out of there. Are we not seeing that. In the reason. Why is because a lot of the people who did tillis they were gonna vote. Were anti newsom. So outside in the county around ventura the suburbs. You was not doing well. And then you had san diego. For instance where if sandiego was a bigger margin for no or for Yes to recall him then. Probably means orange county would've been a little bit wider and it may have been a lead for a minute there but san diego was not as pro recall as we expected it to be or it needs to be so there are definitely five. Domino's maybe even more that you need to see fall of that white liberal base which is that bay area He needs to more inland hispanics for sure Central valley hispanics the working hispanic in the central valley. They tend to be more conservative in they do. And they're getting more conservative of the years but they for while were the most pro
Teacher Removed After Students Pledge Allegiance to Pride Flag
"You probably heard dennis or one of dennis's guests hosts over the last couple of weeks talking about this. You know the teacher in california who bragged on a tick tock video that she created her own little sophie video in which she bragged about not having an american flag in her students classroom and when students wanted to stand for the pledge of allegiance the complained that they had nowhere to face because there was no flag nearby. She said yeah. I put that away during covert remember this. You've probably heard the story. I put that away. During covert. And i don't know where it is now. I'll find it at some point. It's in a box somewhere. And then she kind of giggled and her little video winky winky like. I'm never going to look for it. Because i don't want it. I don't like it. It made her uncomfortable. What a flag had to do in her classroom with cove. Nineteen restrictions is still a mystery to me but she bragged about and she giggled about and thought she was just the cutest thing in the world and when a student said where. Where do we do. Then how do we face our flag. She said face that one in pledge allegiance to that one and that one happened to be the rainbow flag the gay pride parade type of flag that she had hanging proudly in her classroom. We have since come to learn. You probably know this too so apologies. If this is redundant for you. But i want to make sure that those who don't know do now. There was another video of her parading around her classroom. During pride month in june and rainbow suspenders and rainbow close and rainbow shirts. "Or even if you're I love like, it's all accents or accents or accents like whether they're Boston. Whether they're Bronx like her. How does the Boston one sound you guys? Go to the car. Wa has you got. Hey, you guys. What got you got to go to the car while? Yeah, you gotta yeah. The Trump has got bought a wall. We love the wall. We love him. We love the wall. We love accents aren't what make someone smart or not smart. And it's anybody who's in twenty nineteen if you're still hung up on that making someone ignorant you're wrong, and you might want to just take a little listen. We're cordial own voicemail and check your own voice at the door. Because I'm quite sure it's not as you're not bringing sir, sir. Anthony Hopkins to the table, and even and even if you and she swore and whatever. And then that's gonna oh that takes away from the message because she swore. It's like fuck you. Okay. Yeah. Tweeted again, support Trump all you Trump supporters should work for free while the government shutdown to show your support with like a clown face. Like, she says make America great again had ass. Like, I am loving this like, she's it's it's so good. And it's so I guess yeah. It's it's humble. And it's an it's showing real heart like real real art. And I think that she's talking to the vendors talking to four million people just on Twitter alone using her platform. It's so so much bigger than anyone might think big deal. When Taylor swift was like, I'm just gonna vote for this person and back candidate. That's how brave this dumb to be like, you know, not all heroes where caves whatever the Faulk. But it's like that it is brave. What she did you know that she's continuing to do it and she will not stop. And that just shows too much. She's not worry pandering. She's not worried about getting the money that she's gonna. Lose or whatever. And I love the fact that she comes from. She doesn't come for money. So she knows how difficult it is for people who are not getting paid like that. You have got to get paid and going one month without a paycheck going week without a paycheck can ruin your life and a love that no one is no one is really really getting down with that. And certainly not Trump and any as long as we keep the government shutdown. These people are getting paid like, you know, I I feel for them so hard if I miss money for a week it will ruin my life. You know, what I mean people who are live month month when we all know who we are. Yes. It ain't no joke. Joke for her still remember, yes. And feel it and she can tell she feels like she is feeling so and I just I just and I love the people are like Cardi B pres- car to be president car to be the new president. Yes. Cardi B love all the stuff. And I gotta tell you. I am. So down with Cardi B right now, I am voting for Cardi. I am like so into it. And maybe you'll hear one of her songs. I gotta listen, listen. So I'm going to start listening to music, and I also have to admit that I believe now when it comes down to the Nikki Moniz Cardi B. Feud. I I'm going to have to go with Cardi B now. So there's that..

"I think lesson in how now why comparison everyone everyone loves John McCain Mitt Romney Reagan all of these people though in my lifetime. We're called the same names by establishment figures in the media by the Democratic Party by Hollywood we're coming into Mitt Romney, did I miss that. No. I didn't. Oh, yeah. Because he's pretty Trump. I mean one now that's critical of Trump in that seems like a nice guy compared to Trump Burke, lean guy compared to Trump. They're now link lake they have this revisionist history. Like, I remember when the Republican party was was party of this. And it's like, no, I remember that berry person calling, you know, George Bush Nazi and having a swastika on his forehead, you know, like, I remember all of these things. And I think that's the problem when when we're talking about some of this in maybe from a liberal perspective understanding, why Republicans may be give Trump a little bit of leeway or passenger and things is because we've been hearing every person we've ever put up run called the most atrocious names are entire lights. It started from when I was in grade school with Reagan, and it's been all the way through my lifetime through Mitt Romney remember Mitt Romney had his binder full of women, and he was a sexist for. But now put a dog on This. this. Right. But you know, but there was there was plenty of things that that President Obama had done that the media didn't highlight as much as they would have if a Republican hit on it. I think here's why I think you're right. And I think though, the difference is that it is whether it's perceived or whether it's real that Republicans for the most part are trying to take rights away from people and the Democrats perceived or not are not they are aren't trying to limit the second amendment that they're not trying you can make arguments on into the second. But that's what Republicans. Taking your money isn't taking your right sticking. No. I think that we live in a country where we pay taxes so in California where where they're now wanting to do water, I if you heard about this text messages. Point. This is honest to God. What would give a new some is proposing at a certain point house them, not taking your rights. That's your freedom. That's your money. So I think I think we got a difference difference in moralizing. I think is what it is. Because people feel until you have a young do I want my text messages Habra. I your water. Fill wonder I can see because we fucked up the water. Possible thing in the state where we it was a status different because we've been pretty good. Passed on measure. I mean, just go off topic for just a second. It was like it was like fifty billion dollars or something to actually collect our rainwater that was last year that was four years ago not done anything with it sitting. There have been contractors offered bids to start building the state has done. California, california. So that's what I'm saying. From a conservative perspective, we do feel like like these things. But nothing where we'll house things were the things on the forefront. Maybe people would. I mean, I agree with you. I think Democrats have gotten or super left-wing super Rable. It makes you we don't even feel part of it. Like, you know. Twelve years. We're going to be an all green country, and everyone's gonna have an electric car, and you know, it's like much going to coddle letter. Poor people going right word electric. Tires gone. It's just like, okay. There's an idealism that is. But I think that there's like this. If if in the ideal world, Republicans and Democrats would were all the same socially. And then it was just about money and taxes. Maybe it wouldn't be so divisive like, but we're concierge it's like, I know I feel like I don't want to hear about abortion anymore. I'm not even ever going to have an abortion ever. But like it's more than abortion abortion is about more than abortion, the same sex marriages about his married. The way transplant is more than these things are moralizing. They are they're making people feel demeaned. Like, you want to separate kids at the border, not you but one, but then the fetus is life. It's like do you really concerned about like life? I don't know strange yum over. We don't have much time..

"I think the energy and the party in the young people who are Republicans are always more like you live your life. It doesn't mean that they're necessarily pro choice. But if you look at the polling there like the lousy law, let people live themselves going to advocate for that. But I'm also not going to stop you from living your life. And that's where I pretty much come come on these issues. It's like personal freedom personal liberty and not other Teheran's to become a right against And enough. that's why I kind of I think the left has some work to do. So the right. Yes, has will totally knowledge. It's got some of these issues in moralizing some of these issues, but the left is now doing that too. I mean, I was startled. But it totally validated. Things. I've been seeing in feeling on the left, which is there is now this new morality on the left, which says you've you things this way or else you're bad person in we're gonna we're gonna take your taxpayer money to spend in it all these things we think are reporting so costs court test. But yeah, there's the shaming. She said an interview the other day with Anderson Cooper where he was like critiquing some of her state. They're generalizations about how much it would cost do somethings. And her response was it's more important to be morally, right, then factually accurate. And it's like who this? She decided like, but that that opens. Like a specific thing numbers that she said he was like that's not really the number. More important to be morally right about this. I think something we used to critique, and we still critique people on the right for dealing religion. You don't want all these things. Right. Someone who decides I'm the moral police, and I'm going to be my morality lane, the left needs to to self regulate that to do you feel any like with Trump, even though you know, he's anti salvage moment. And he's shaking things up. Do you ever just grossed out? I am or you not there. You know, what I mean like Mitch McConnell is doing what he's doing? And that's the party in the party's whatever Trump is grabbing bliss sees and PM beds and lying in Russia and keep in mind to the media really does have a different standard. I mean, just does at the media academe Lia Hollywood has a different standard for Republicans that does reduc routes. You will never see a notary of Sandra Day O'Connor movie. Even though she was the first female supreme court Justice, but they are. Doing that on Ruth Bader Ginsburg because she fits the model on issues that liberal Hollywood likes and felt they're gonna move up, and and glorify same thing on you know, when it comes to we're we're talking about the George W Bush..

"It was like in the ninety s something percent even equality California released its scorecard on if you saw this just last week on the elected Republicans. Where's just only two years ago? They buy their the way they do their scorecard isn't necessarily a hundred percent the way, I would do it. But they look at OBT issues, and they assign a score to elected officials, Democrats and Republicans Republicans by large head a failing grade only two years ago. And now have you know on? On average have a passing great. But the vast majority actually had in the eighties nineties in in terms of how their voting supportive LGBT issues. So the party has come a long way in my own personal experience is not one of people saying, we don't want you discriminate against you. I think it's been it's if anything it's an issue of sometimes people not being gay themselves in not entirely understanding how to be an advocate to help. And I think there are other people that personally are supportive of the people their life. I think there's been elected officials who were supportive on an individual basis, but also just didn't know voting wise, whether their constituency would actually kick them in office of the voter, certainly it's not an excuse justification. But in saying, I think what we're seeing now is a lot of that. Changing. And it's not as I think a lot of these people were already there personally. The the attitudes in the country through a lot of it. I I wanna I wanna give credit to leaders in this orgnization because if really believe the last journey of equality lies on the right, then you want people like us that can speak the language to say, hey, we're like you a lot of ways we can act on this this initiative these issues. So let's start a dialogue on that. And then you can see like you actually should want me treated the same way. But I think we need to have the conversation. And where I think sometimes they'll like LGBT access on the left hurt that dialogue is they'll if they don't see someone one hundred percent support if they call them names in in those people retreat into their corners and say, well, why am I going to have dialogue with you? If if you're not eating the halfway, you're not having a dialogue to say try to understand meeting a religious person growing up in a rural environment. I've never known anyone openly gay or had someone close in my. Life being gay like help me through this. I've ever think that that the log cabin Republicans, certainly California like you're worn raising California. So like my dad is the kind of Republican who was always like a he socially liberal. And that's just because he just doesn't fucking care runnin home. It's like he could care less about. He doesn't need to moral. He's like give them money to the military. And you know, I don't have any taxes. That's basically his deal. And I think in California, it could be California could be the place that does change the Republican party the way it should be which is back to that. I think southern Republicans probably have taken it over and made it all about Jesus. I mean, no, you know, what I mean. But just like rather than everybody's religion needs to be their own their own code of ethics in their own spirituality can be their thing at home. Just like, you said the way felt about abortion, or whatever I think getting people's bedrooms and Jonah's, and you know, I think at that point California could be the leader on getting the party where. Where it should be in our opinion, nor mine where I think where the Republicans wanna see I wanna see them concerned with like yet the money. I don't wanna see them concerned with anybody else to know, really whether the difference like wouldn't you say sorry to interrupt you. But like at the end of the day shouldn't that just be the difference between Democrats only run on them? We win too. I mean, that's I mean people I think the majority of the country. Is at least somewhat fiscally conservative or believes in the in those values and so on. Right. You know, I think the party is heading that way..

"It was not set up to simply view things through the lens of of how I view them. Now, I think the rulings on marriage and on OBT issues has been correct. I think luckily, I think it's been accurate, and I think the supreme court is there. When the majority rights legislation that infringes on the. On the rights of the minority. I think it is there to provide a buffer and being sure that that everyone is treated equally. I do believe that. But where I think we're we could see ourselves here. Some of my friends saying, well, you know, they don't rule this way on this in this way on that. Then they're automatically wrong. It's like well, don't pre decide that before they've even had a chance to read it maybe give their arguments for why they feel differently. So that's why I just I caution everyone to kind of you're advocating now that there's two sides to the to the there's two there's good guys and bad guys on both sides. So you know, what I mean what get with game stuff that you're allowed to have a belief that we don't deserve the same rights as other people. You are then saying that that is that fair to say, I'm arguing that we don't deserve to have the same rights as supreme by the supreme court goes that seems to be what I'm hearing. So the supreme court ruling on same sex marriage. On whether we get discriminated at work, whether we since marriage is legal. Year until year ago. And then I mean, yeah, I was just going to say like, it's still legal. No, no, I'm saying the legal. But, but let's say okay, very recent history recent history. So let's say it could be overturned. Let's say, and would that be acceptable to you? Or you can you can now though discriminate against gay people. Like, we Karen pants, and that whole thing with the school private schools are allowed to discriminate against BT students, parents and teachers. It's all legal. My my take on that is either no one should be able to be discriminated against or everyone's allowed to be discriminated against. But not picking and choosing specific groups has a member of the Republican party and a conservative. How do you reconcile being part of that party? When that is the cornerstone of what's going on there. Now, we are you. I mean, I wanna say you 'cause you personally clearly are not. But as a party, the government, Mr. picking and choosing who is going to be discriminated against is happening. How so. The fact that we're still discriminated against LGBT students at schools. My personally, I think I think legislating abortion is discriminatory and. There's a lot of discrimination Mike Pence. He he he definitely he's he doesn't try to further any LGBTQ rights. He's like four gay conversion therapy. I would say pushed back on that though. Like, so I did some research on of the Mike Pence's like the boogeyman for our community. And so did some research on where that all comes from that he supposedly supported conversion therapy. So what it turns out it can look this up even in snow. It's like I mean, it's the only thing you can find is that in two thousand when believe he was he was a congressman at the time. He they were debating the reauthorization of the Ryan white HIV funding act in heat that there was a statement on his website that said that he would be in support of amending the legislation to make sure that it is.

"I mean, I think I think we have a process that we have to we have to trust process. I don't I think where I sometimes view I think were conservatives and liberals sometimes the supreme court a little bit differently and your you'll probably argue with me on this. But I I think even when it comes to things related now with algebra issues. I think the people that are on the court have to view it through the eyes of not what they want or what they think's going to be better for society. But through what actually the rule of law based on our constitution says they can do. And so I think you know. When it comes to abortions those things where I myself. I if I'm being consistent in being a good American and how we all whether we're in the left or the right? If we're going to believe in the institutions of America, we have to trust that these institutions. That there was wisdom in the founders and the way they designed this. And if the conclusion that they came to was that abortions, legal, it's legal. But I don't disagree sometimes with where we're going a little bit on. Some issues whether we're talking about lately, like health care or immigration or LGBT rights. I think some people are viewing that if something doesn't go our way on LGBT writes the way that we wanted to that somehow the automatically the justices were wrong because it didn't go in the favor of of what we believe. And I don't think that's that's the purpose of the supreme court. I think if the justices interpret the laws are way, that's that's intervals be fine. If the justices are like marriages woman in a man, we can discriminate against gay people at work, you can discriminate against gay people at school, you can ban trans people from the military because they've decided that they have. They've made an opinion about what they think the constitution said, which never said anything about gay people in or abortion. Right. So I'm not saying it'd be fine with it. I'm saying I knowledge that the court was not set up to simply..

"Tell our listeners what a log cabin Republican is because we have a lot of young listeners. Also, just dumb asses like myself. Lockup and Republicans is a group that was formed in nineteen seventy seven really to be an advocacy group for eligible Republicans like myself conservatives, and we have people in our group that are libertarians even some Democrats that are just maybe more conservative than where they feel the Democratic Party is and we provide a voice for those folks. Would you describe the difference between Republicans and conservatives? If there's one. Sure. So I think Republicans. Theoretically will speak more to the party. I they're more connected to maybe the party platform, and what that stands for conservatives, generally tend to be Republican, but there's conservative Democrats conservatives will always be a little bit more. In the belief that the government should be smaller, not larger fiscally the military usually being strong. But that's where there's some negotiating room. Is we see with people like rand Paul who's more of a libertarian conservative? He really believes in you know, I think almost a very true consistently conservative limited government, where he doesn't believe we should be in any foreign wars. Or he believes you know, we shouldn't be spending any more money than what we're taking in. Versus sometimes Republicans who say they believe in spunk government. But. Don't always run things from a small government perspective, which we we've talked about before. So you know, I think generally they're they're aligned they split off a bit. When it comes to. Regional like it used to be for instance, Republicans that were in the northeast were a little bit more. Tend to be a little bit more progressive on social issues prior prior to rake in or even during the Reagan era. Tended to be generally fiscally conservative, but warrant hardline about a lot of different things. Whereas more conservative. Republican would be like, no, we can't we need a balanced budget amendment. We need to be conservative on social issues on the military issues that sort of thing do you say yourself a conservative. Yes. On social issues. I think it just depends on the issue, and I'm personally conservative. So I can separate myself personally being conservative from what I think the the rule of law should be does that allegis kind of or does that come from religious via. I mean, I was raised Catholic, and I still hold onto my own personal beliefs and certain issues like an issue like abortion for me personally. I have my my opinions about it. And then my my levels. No, you gotta. Yeah. So I have my own. Personal belief that I have a hard time wrapping my head around that not being a life to me. However, I also believe one of the things that has been an issue for our countries, especially of late is that. We have laws, and we don't get to pick and choose which laws we fall on which ones we don't, you know. So for instance, I would have a hard time. I have a hard time in the immigration discussion where we're saying, you know, well. Laws are being broken and people are getting upset because you know, laws are being broken. And we're saying we're gonna forget that laws are being broken there. But I don't think you can turn around and say, okay. Well, we believe in the rule of law when it comes to immigration, and then we are not going to leave the rule of law when it comes to abortion and abortion legal. So for me, it's one of those things where I say, I can put aside my own personal beliefs on it. If someone asked my -pinion, I will tell them how I personally feel, but I'm also not going to go on advocate for laws that are in contradiction of what the what the supreme court ruled on it. So that's where I which is an interesting position. Because when I'm speaking of behalf of me not. About you personally. So in there might be people who relate to that. And could feel that two soap you and I want to get to the immigration thing in a second. But I don't want to forget this so abortion, you have a personal feeling about. Let's and that the laws are the laws, and if the laws are the laws, then would you say than should we have not fought for gay marriage since the law was changed back to our Boertien illegal because our whatever Rovigo was overturned, then you would leave it as you wouldn't necessarily fight to get it to you personally..

You're laid on the right once you go down there and tell them you work for federal government. Should they probably ask for I believe? But I thought that they would ask for some sort of proof. I don't know what proof you'd have go down there and take them your badge. Job. Oh, yeah. We like this opens the door to the government. Okay. Exactly building. This is exactly how I get into the Pentagon. Maybe you've heard of it like, I mean, please. So last week. I guess he is Trump the New York Times always calls, Mr. Trump. And it's just like, I don't think I ever one time read the phrase, Mr Obama, it doesn't even sound like a word. No, it does not even a word. Anyone lose anyone's? No, No, MR Obama now, Mr. Trump. They will not Honey purposely calling President Trump because it is almost like saying. Like president. It's like almost president Schwarzenegger presidents to load for me. Right. President stallone. Well, now, it's time for the star. Put up on the wall chicken. Take shit up off of the put it down on the floor in the glass. Take some fuck and put up on the. When. Another week another government shutdown shit storm, in fact, exactly one year ago today on this podcast the eye of the storm was about the last time the government shutdown. The now that shutdown was also about immigration, but it was only like two days long. And it was like a cakewalk compared to this one which at thirty one days is the longest government shutdown in history. Can you believe that the last like one year ago, this podcast the government shutdown? No, so fucking annoying. Can't. So on Saturday trumped at a press conference addressing actually should say like thirty two or thirty three days because by the time this motherfucker comes out. This thing's a day late because of. Sanath food problem. Yeah. On so on Saturday. Trump did a press conference addressing the shutdown offering trade of sorts to the Democrats. He basically floated what the offer was going to be before. He even did the fucking press conference. So Nancy Pelosi said, yeah, baby. No turns out that's the same deal you offer before. And it's the same deal. We said no to before. So yet it's going to be hard for us. Right. And what he said in his pointless speech was that if he got five point seven billion for a border wall. He would restore the protections known as deferred action for childhood arrivals or DACA and temporary protected status or TPS. But here's why Nancy Pelosi told him to go attack himself. They were only offering to protect the people for three years. Yeah. I didn't realize that when I talked out of my ass at the live show. So meanwhile, they were already inefficient Nance Pelosi and Trump because basically Nancy Pelosi threatened to cancel Trump's state of the union, and then Trump retaliated by denying her military transport Afghantistan, which then Malania took tomorrow Lago a mar-a-lago three times. And then she accused the Trump administration of leaking her plans to fly commercial. She was like, oh, I'm sorry. You want to give the plane to Milania? Okay. Cool. Cool. Cool. I'll jump in first class as I do. And then he leaked the Trump administration leisure plans. She let the press know that they leaked your plans and she had to cancel the trip. So she wouldn't get killed and she pointblank called called him an amateur. She called him. You gotta she was like see that. Yeah. Like, she was like, I don't know if he's like, I don't know if as an amateur, but she's like, I don't know if he's ignorant or it was along those lines of your fucking asshole, Eddie you're the president Nancy Pelosi..

"I'm Eric, Marcus. And this is making a history. In the thirty years since I started my work collecting oral histories of the LGBTQ civil rights movement. There's one question I'm asked more than any other. Is there anyone you didn't interview who you wish you talk to? There are a lot of people. I wish I could have interviewed but buyers Rushton is near the top of that list for a couple of reasons for many of the early gay rights activists, I spoke with their activism began with or was inspired by or influenced by the black civil rights movement and buyer who was gay and open about it was one of the principal architects of that movement having mentor, Dr Martin Luther King junior and organiz the landmark nineteen sixty three March on Washington for jobs and freedom, and he did so much more the buyer died a year before I began my work. So I couldn't ask him how he navigated what I can only. Imagine was treacherous terrain for a black gay, man. During those years couldn't ask him. What? Impact is homosexuality had on his role in the black civil rights movement. And I couldn't ask what he thought about the fight for LGBTQ civil rights. I never got the chance to record buyer talking about all those things, but Walter Naegle did Walter is buyer surviving partner as matter of fact buyer at doubted Walter in one thousand nine hundred eighty two before marriage equality adoption was one of the few ways for same sex couples to protect each other's legal rights. During the ten years they were together before Byron's death. Walter made backup recordings many of the interviews buyer gave including the never before heard interview, we're going to share with you in this episode..

I don't imagine congressman John Mayer Gillam agree on a lot. But, but maybe they just like all of us agree that there's something bigger the politics. And that's that's that's on the ballot right now. What kind of politics? Do we want? We wanna politics where people are yelling at each other. Making drifters. In front of the children. I'm. Brought. I love when he says a kid that run a momma's. What's funny is that I'm literally looking at the pictures from the calendar of you with your tongue out. And you straddling Obama, Jennifer Johnson. Thank you again. The a lot of those are going on the bulletin board. They look so real. And so literally think I'm watching you having sex with Obama right now. Yeah. The wedding picture is like oh my God. What a wonderful day. I feel like I had the day. I've never seen two people more. I mean, Jennifer Johnson is. I mean, it's it's incredible. What she did what a great birthday gift. And I mean, it's all going on the bulletin board is just going to be patriotic members and pictures of me and Obama it looks so real so real he said that about Lou gestures and stuff because there was a heckler or something. There was a heckler in a protest or they never turn the camera on him. But there was clearly cursing, and who knows what was going on and Obama had to stop him several times. And he told them not to curse several times. It was it's worth watching because he's just didn't even care. He's like, it's all right. We're good. We're good, sir. At one point. And go, sir. If you don't believe what we believe good and go to another LA, yo to the rally of Goethe, and you like to go to whoever you are. We don't want. We're good. And it was like, okay. Yeah. "Well, hopefully, everyone listening has done their civic doodoo Queen and voted already. But the problem is we won't know if we should all go Mad Max on Washington to later this week when the results come in. Right. So today for our special midterm election day episode. We're gonna play some campaign ads and speeches from a few of the interesting midterm races. Justin, gays any of our listeners are feeling to up Pedic to frustrated or just plain too tired to go out and vote today. Okay. So I up is the Georgia governor's race. Now. There are thirty six states electing new governors today. Currently twenty six of those seats are held by Republicans nine are held by Democrats, and one is an independent seems crazy doesn't it does seem crazy fix ten nine. How is it? Twenty six to nothing Surda logs me we'll hopefully there's going to be that blue flush that's going to happen. And it's going to take care of this problem. But I don't know. Now, there might not be a chance for us to take back. The Senate, but we want to flip the fucking script on the governor situa- yet that's absurd that number one and has a likes to say governors are basically the president's of their state. And so not only do they set the tone for Washington. And if a state comes together, and Alexa, democrat that's a sign of progress, especially within the Trump induced culture war that's currently happening and not only that governors are responsible for redistricting. So of Jerry is gonna mandour. Okay. Jerry's gonna mandour we need Jerry to be a mother fucking democrat like Stacey Abrams of Stacey Abrams is elected. She'll be the first black female governor in the history of Markelle a Markelle that's right Stacy get gerrymandering bitch. So satiate Abrams is running against the current secretary of state and Georgia Brian Kemp. Okay. And here we go. This guy is a major douche Lord. Now, we're back with douche lords. We played his discussing campaign at on the podcast a few months ago, you guys probably. And you'll remember when you hear it horrifying, no matter. Biggest most watched race for governor in the tightest and this guy. Yeah. And the type test, and this this is this guy's ad-. Don't K do not think this is an ad from some podunk fake purposes. Not a sketch yet, this is real this isn't a skit. Okay. This is a skit this is a real ad here comes I'm Brian Kim. I'm so conservative. Blow up government spending on gun. No one's taken away. Much ause ready to rip up some regulation. I got a big Trump. Just in case, I need to round up criminal illegals and take them home myself. I just said that I'm Brian Kim. If you wanna politically incorrect conservative asked me, so he acts so confident and on politically, correct. So don't care, but CNN and MSNBC have asked him on their big Sunday shows and on their nightly shows like every single weekend for the last month, and he has said, no every single time like, where's all this bravado? When he's why doesn't he want to go on this show? I don't understand why he doesn't want to go on. He's literally said no to every show. Meet the press state of the union. Yes, we watched when especially on Sunday watching Stacey Abrams was on all the shows. She was like this was her big data go on and you would think her opponent her big bed. White opponent would wanna go on and tell her what for two and then we're gonna do them debate. He was going to sit there, and you know, sit there and talk about how he's politically incorrect at night. I apologize for it. Right. It's like, why don't you? Go. Not apologize that. Or why don't you tell everyone what you're fucking plan is for the state of Georgia..
