Get cash for your used Apple Watch

"You may be excited about that new apple, what series five, the one that can read your blood oxygen levels. Well fine. So what are you GonNa do with your Old Watch The same thing that you do with the old phones Hannam down or maybe get a trade and get some money for them. Well, just like the used phone market, there's now a cottage industry for used watches. You can probably pick up about forty percent of the retail price. If you go to a bunch of sites, I'm here to tell you all about them today trade more in declutter offer about some of the best pricing that I've seen for instance. Last year's Apple Watch, which originally sold for four hundred dollars with a forty millimeter watch face or five hundred dollars or five hundred dollars. If you added the cellular connectivity, I see prices about two hundred dollars for the top of the line while trade more will give you even more like to fourteen. Now, a lot of people bought the series three watch because it's cheaper originally sold for forty dollars and as of last year got lower down to two hundred bucks. So you can you'll be lucky to get seventy five to a one hundred dollars for it. What about the Samsung? Watches while the new one sells for three, sixty, nine, the game watch three Samsung itself will give you one hundred sixteen dollars off as a trade in with a trait in of on galaxy phones tablet or a previous watch. You won't get as much for the watch on declutter only about fifty bucks. An apple will also give you a trade in they won't give you cash will you trade? They say they'll pay up to about two hundred, forty dollars for the series five or up to one hundred dollars for series three before shipping your watch off to one of these sites. Apple reminds you that you gotta take all the data off how do you do it? Well, there's two ways. One is to open up the watch APP on the phone. Go to the my watch tab tap all watches than the info next the watch and choose unpaid Apple Watch that will wipe it an easier way to do. It might be just do it on the watch itself by clicking settings general reset, erase all content and

Why is Pluto no longer a planet?

"Our. Future. After taking job at the Lowell. Observatory in Flagstaff Arizona Young, American Astronomer Clyde Tombaugh joined the world's search for an elusive celestial object that must be influencing your ennis's strange dance in the night sky. The painstaking search technique was to take two photographs of the same section of the sky on different days using a machine that flip to rapidly back and forth between the two images stars and galaxies remained motionless but everything else could be identified by slight changes in. Their relative position Tombaugh spent a year examining pairs of photographs. Then in nineteen thirty, he noticed a tiny displacement within weeks. The observatory confirmed his finding and announced the discovery of the

"Like the Wilson Observatory in Southern California is safe from a wild fire that is burning in the Angeles National Forest. It was an extremely close call, though the bobcat fire came within 500 ft of the observatory, But officials say crews were able to keep the historic sites safe. The observatory played a key role in early 20th century astronomy. It's where it was confirmed that Galaxies outside the Milky Way exist and that the universe is expanding.

"Space is vast beautiful and fascinating. The one thing it isn't is loud. This is innovation. Now bringing you stories of revolutionary ideas, emerging technologies and the people behind the concepts that shaped the future movies rarely get sound right in space. But if you've spent a fortune on filming dramatic battle between Star cruisers, you probably want the audience to hear it with no atmosphere for sound waves to travel through the real sound in space is mostly silence. But that doesn't mean there is no sound in the universe anyplace with an atmosphere we'll have sound on Mars for example, because the atmosphere is much less dense than earth's sound will be higher in pitch but sound waves aren't the only noise in space today astronomers know that stars and quasars emit radio waves different than sound waves, radio waves or a low frequency electromagnetic wave. On, the far end of the light spectrum. So while no one might be able to hear you scream in space with new radio astronomy instruments scientists are able to tune into the static hiss of distant galaxies and listened to what was points the sounds of silence for innovation. The wonderful world of folding phones

"Out, you've had a very busy week and have is not is not for nothing that you've only slept four hours in the last three days or something. So I appreciate all the work you've done let's start with the galaxy fold sue and I'm just going to call it the galaxy full to because. No. The future is in flat. This is a phone that you and I went back and forth on about giving a five star review and we settled four point five out of five because no phone is perfect, etc etc. But I do want to talk about how much you like this thing in also how much better it is than the previous version. I'm you're not alone in this right this is you know the verge came out with their review this week as well. I think every other site that I've seen has sort of praised this as being an extravagance successful ones. So give us your your thoughts on unwired so much better than the first. Yeah I mean the biggest change for me is the fact that the cover screen now takes up the whole front of the phone. So it's it's. It really changes how you use it versus the short time. I. Spent with the original fold where you know that that covers green was so small that you could really only use it for notifications and and really small things. You didn't really want to use it for anything for more than two minutes or so the cover screen on the full to because it's it's so much bigger it. It really feels like just using a normal phone that just happens to be really narrow and tall. And you can do all your normal phone things with regular apps and not just notifications, and so it really makes the fold feel more like having two devices instead of just like having a tablet that shrinks to a frustratingly small screen. and that's It makes it a one handed device when you need it to be in that. That's a really big deal to me. I mean other than that. It's it's just fixing. So many things with the original full, the the hinges so much more rigid and you can use it for all the flex MoD things where you know certain APPS will rearrange themselves. When you fold the screen, it's not very widely implemented, but it does work really wealth the APPs that it that it has been. Optimized for and just the whole thing feels so refined where last year's fold felt like this is a really cool experiment, but it's still just an experiment This is a phone that like actually feels like a complete fully thought out products that somebody could and should by right now assuming they don't mind dropping two thousand dollars on a on a cell phone. And that's interesting. You know it's something that. It always takes that second generation to iron out any bugs but the ones that really affected. The I note were concerns about resilience this. Sorry. The first fold were concerns about resilience that the the plastics screen was scratched were susceptible to scratches that it wouldn't hold up in inclement weather that the repeated. Folding would. Potentially, damage it or may may not hold up to the regular stresses of daily life. You haven't had it very long but do have those concerns with this phone. Not, as much as I did with the first one, but I also don't think this is necessarily going to hold up as well as just a traditional phone that you're not fooling in half all the time. They made the they made some improvements like the ultra thin glass, the sort of outer plastic layer. Where the first vote was all plastic. So it should in theory be more more durable in that regard. Again, the hinge feels more resistant it's still not waterproof and that's a big bummer to me I. Don't I don't like use my phone in the rain all that often especially now that I'm not going out of the house when a when I can avoid it but. It. With two thousand dollar phone you kind of would hope it's going to be waterproof like every other phone on the market these days. So, little things like that I think add up to a phone that you maybe can't be. Confident in for the entirety of especially, if you're financing this for forty eight months like they offer on Samsung's website, don't don't find us a phone for four years. That's ridiculous. But I don't know that it's going to hold up over the course of four years or even two years. I trust it more than the first full though and I think that hopefully the next generation will be water resistant. If not everything else seems to be pretty airtight I, I don't have any like. crease aberrations that happened pretty pretty quickly with the original. Only had this for about ten eleven days, but it's still like A. Straight line down the middle. There's always the question of like what's the point of a folding phone? I guess some some of the. Questions have been aimed at the Z. Flip liner, the new Motorola Razor Five G. where they kind of their small. Clam shells that essentially open up into regular size phones a lot of people like the fact that they don't take as much space. When they're closed but I wonder is that an issue when you're trying to figure out how to use this phone and take advantage of it Especially now that the front screen is thin, but it's basically the size of a regular smartphone. How do you decide whether you're going to do something on your on the Front One? Put it back in your pocket quickly do you use it like as a as a larger smartwatch sort of triage or are you? Not, using it very much and instead of opening up the main screen and using that most of the time like how does that break down for you? So I used the cover screen a lot more than I expected to just again because it's sort of size like a normal phone, it is still like because it's so narrow I don't like typing on it at all especially, I've been sticking with Samsung's keyboard for the first time because it it can split down the Middle when you've got the phone extended and that's that's kind of Nice for for Ergonomics but the the keyboard itself as a nightmare so. I don't really love typing on the cover screen but I do use it a lot more than I thought. I would most of the time I just kind of decide like I wanNA use the phone one-handed or can I sit down and actually use it with both hands right now but the biggest guess most obvious reason to use the main screen is for multi tasking. It's so nice to have your APP split down the middle because you know you're basically working with two full sized phone screens right next to each other so you can have two full sized APPS. You can run three apps if you want or three APPs in a couple of floating windows, you can. You can do all kinds of stuff I. think it's really most usable with just two APPs renting it split screen. But there's I mean there's there's all sorts of things you can do their I've got the podcast rundown for this show pulled up right now just because it's such a you know spreadsheets are so nice on a giant screen and this is kind of perfect for that sort of thing. So I mean spreadsheets aren't sexy but if you use a lot of spreadsheets, that's a really good use case for something like the fold.

Xbox Series S and X preview

"All Right Tom. You have just like dummy xbox at your house, but what is going on? You just plastic shells. He's just making videos with like should I tell you the story of week? So. They arrived on. Monday morning and like like I'm grumpy wouldn't say old berm like it and I knew phone and we get new laptop and he does know me I, know that sounds like. And and I'm like I mean a really fortunate position. But like once you've seen so much stuff once visited location. So many times he just doesn't. It's not exciting, right? So He's very me to get sight about technology but like Jane genuinely when opened up the series was like, wow, this is. Not. Excited by a brand new laptop with the latest graphics card a super fast processor and a ton of Ram Beautiful Four K. screed but you were excited by a plastic dummy box of the xbox series. And I don't know why. But it was late is is a deny it sounds really like fan boil some. It sounds like he was like Christmas I was like Oh this is so. Because I haven't seen it before. And I knew other people hadn't seen before. So is an element of that but it was also just like Michael being so small like how did how did they do this? That was my immediate thing was like how like will? It right. They haven't told me anything about it at this point. So they just sent me these damn dummy units and I was just like. BSO The dummy units arrived they respond to be I mean there was supposed to be announcing this thing next week. So there's going to be a bunch of like. Honey. Technical. In Belgrade, sessions where briefings for the press, so they give us the full information so that we'd have our goals like informative for people to read. That's great involved because like it just means that I can explain things better. readers get better pitcher and but then it leaked. So I woke up I can't even remember which day it leaked because it's just been such a week. But it leads at some point. Jews Wednesday. Up, and I was like Oh God like zoo happen, and then like that will C- kick Mike soft intellect panic mode we need to announce everything because everything's leaked. So they like just dumped the whole thing. The experts pricing everything. This is a trend because Google does this now and the thing leaks that just like Oh. Yeah. Okay. That's Just did it with the wing? Yeah. Well, I mean L. L G announces every single practice makes fifty times so. Count. But it's a pattern. We might as well, just announce it. We're done I think I think with Marxist cases that I've been. Flight. Will to years. Alongside bunch of reposes will. But like I think for them, it was like they needed to explain his fingers like the thing suspending. Well, this is the experts series S. His basically a smaller more budget friendly and and let's say less performance. Experts console than the bigger experts series X, which I'm sure most people listening to this probably familiar with Bono and it's basically designed for fourteen Philippi gaming. So like that's I, mean I'd say the vast majority of Mona's out there today that people gaming on the moment. East acton on the TV's and stuff but like this is a pretty good. Sweets book fully Philippi right now, spy from the PC side and. It's like a good talk. And they basically promising a symbol of architecture and all of the next gen premiums from the series. Excellent. CPU cloud under two hundred megahertz. The thing I care about is, does it have the the fast d at the series extras? Yeah. It does but it's five hundred, twelve storage instead of one terabyte. So there are no right. There's no Dr. Discloses all digital. Is Two hundred, ninety nine buffs, which is, which is good. I think it's like that's a pretty impressive for us but this is obviously the the the drawbacks to it. No disks will do diesel prices. If Games are typically higher yields, he can't use use games I think a lot to see Sonia my soul. In some way I'd love to just say my district sorted signing just digitize as well. I think we spoke about that on the way I look at like this series s is I think he's great life. If you kid you place fort like twenty, four, seven in bed, remove ten ADP TV because you haven't spent. Two Thousand Bucks on the Keio lead for them. Surprisingly. Like. I think I. Think it's great for that sold market like having. By that for Free Hundred Bucks and they get the new CPU the new ESA stays below times and the performance overall will be like way better than expos one. Like it just depends how it compares to the to the series x I. Think like they're doing some upscaling stuff for four K. if you really want to touch, it's a four K.. By Donna, how good that's going to be. That misses the point like. Different market. But what is the market for fourteen forty game I mean When you say monitors get it but most people with fourteen forty P monitors plugging PC's into them not consoles I is fourteen forty pm out. So I think the market is really ten API. which which is the TV's. Still turn EP like I would probably imagine the forty percent Stilton apr there at the moment. And I think that goes wildly up when you look at bedrooms and like kids rooms like where you're buying a typically smaller TV and you're not gonNA get e can't even by like a smaller lighter the twenty. Shit Four. K. TV. It's just they just don't exist. Although maybe they do but like. Just don't sell volume and I think that that's the market. That's the market ICS. Definitely. Going for like the MOMS and the POPs the shopping around at Christmas and they want to get their gear console they want to get something this noon and stuff, and these things only gonNA come down in price. So to me the market for the series S is. Why definitely have to buy a playstation because I want to get those games and if Playstation maybe I'll get the best one because I don't know what's going on the cheaper one about they're going to do there. And so if I've done that I still kind of want an xbox because I'm thinking about getting this Xbox game pass thing because he all these games on it. But I don't want to have to big ass consuls my living room saw the the cheaper xbox. I'll get the cheaper xbox to play Xbox Game Pass Games, and then I'll get the more expensive PSI to be like my main console that I get like my kick ass four K. stuff on it is. So blindingly clear which one of you has a child in which one doesn't. Just putting. Very obvious. How your perspectives shifted. Like I would say game passes Tom to your point you the game passes the thing here right? Like, yeah. If this is a Fox for your second TV or your kids TV, then what you need is a cloud gaming service. They can address all the xboxes right. And if you don't have a disk, doesn't matter because all the Games on the cloud anyway and you're just moving licenses around and maybe you're going to get to to streaming games in this thing, will be able to stream the games right like. You kinda see where they're going is these are just sort of client units for an xbox service with different GPS. Yeah. Exactly. It's different. Slight different economic you a bunch of specs and people who've been tweet me thousand times a minute this week. But you can argue a bunch of stuff to the essential differences between the two is the once targeting Larry's Lucien Melissa's and TV's and the EVA's talkative. Okay. Like that. That's that's basically the basic gist of the if you were really simplifier. And I think the cheap one is really gonNA appealed to the experts getting pulse market. Like that. Is Probably the best for you and gave me right now like I. Think it's very. Apple, arcade. Lately, just added a play or that it didn't add it to base expos game policies to the almost see have to you have to pay the all of the xbox names are bad and confusing. And then there's the P. C. There's the version that you can also play it on PC, which now costs more, right yes. Let's give me ten bucks a month by feel like that's I mean if you experts came all that covers you on anyway. So feel like you just. Denies. People go for the old anyway I think. So you've got the the series as the that will call the ten ADP model because I think it's functionally what it is even yeah basically forty nine. To Ninety nine, the series x, which is the four K. high refresh rate. Refrigerator refrigerator model. Model model is four ninety nine, which is actually still very aggressive and my mind and just based on what can do and then experts expensive. The Ninja xbox Game Pass Ultimate Yep is twenty five bucks a month in. Fifteen a month. But if you pay more and then you get a box out of it to write for twenty four months, you you you pay the subsidize. It's like a phone plan. Basically you get you pay a little bit more and then you a paying down your hardware and installments and it's basic. Tech Industry only has one business model which is. And T. in two, thousand and four. Yeah. But right. But that's a killer deal right that she ended up paying less over the twenty four months than you would. If you bought them separately right when you can get either right for the Yup can get the X. which I think is four, nine, nine a month I think. Five month or twenty five, the S. I I see that I'm like I'm just GonNa. I'm just GONNA, X.. Whatever like I am going to do the dumb starbucks, which is it's three coffees Erlich whatever. AM. And that is just a brilliant move for Microsoft, right? Yeah. Basically make an expensive thing seemed cheap even as maybe in the end, it's only slightly cheaper than buying everything out right?

As the Hubble Telescope Turns 30, What's Next for Space Telescopes?

"Has been looking at a project that set to be the successor to the Hubble Space. Telescope arguably one of the famous telescopes of all time. and. The. Hubble Space Telescope is iconic sent into space in nineteen ninety, the images Hobo sent back are amazing and captured the imagination of millions, but it is thirty years old. It's getting on a bit. So a new generation of telescopes are being clowns to attempt to fill herbals sizable bids. One of them is the Nancy Grace Roman telescope named for the first female executive of NASA. This telescope will seek to continue hobos legacy. I spoke to Dominic Bedford Program scientist for the telescope. We designed the Roman Space Telescope to be able to conduct the kind of survey that astronomers haven't been able to do with any of the sets of tools they have. Had during the past generations and that is to focus on being able to take very sharp images of wide areas of the sky with tremendous sensitivity being able to see very very distant objects and also optimized in the near infrared, which is wavelengths just slightly longer than what our eyes are sensitive to because the near wavelengths penetrate dust better. So we will allow us to see further into our own galaxy and also we'll. Be. Able to see the red shifted light from very very distant galaxies. So we've been able to see farther and so this combination of being able to see far into our own galaxy and far out into other galaxies and to be able to do this very quickly very efficiently means that we can start conducting surveys where instead of looking at a few objects, a few galaxies refused ours we can start studying monitoring and understanding. Millions even hundreds of millions of galaxies and millions of stars all the same time to be able to conduct surveys that are more demographic where we really understand the whole the entirety of these aspects of the universe all at once. That means the Nancy Grace Roman telescope is designed to be more like a wide angle lens for space instead of a Zoom Lens. But how is it going to carry out its mission? The Romans Space Telescope surveys are designed to be able to answer pressing questions both in cosmology. And in Exit Planet Science for Cosmology, we will take number of surveys of the distant universe so that we can understand the distribution of galaxies and how the universe has expanded over cosmic time from a time when the universe was only a few billion years old to the present when the universe is now thirteen point seven, billion years old. And through watching the way, the galaxies evolved how they form how they move towards an away from each other, we can infer the effects of dark matter, which is a a large unknown components of the mass of the universe and dark energy, which is a recently discovered mysterious force that appears to be pushing the universe apart and therefore pushing all the matter in the universe away from all the other matter. and. It will be able to take definitive measurements of this kind to understand the effects of these so that we might understand better the fundamental physics that drives the universe in its evolution. What about our own galaxy? What can be achieved when the telescope is pointed to the center of the Milky Way we plan on conducting where we will look at the Galactic Bulge of Milky Way, which is where most of the stars in the galaxy can be found. So we'll stare at a wide patch of our Milky Way Galaxy tracking the brightness of millions of millions of stars. Taking images every roughly fifteen minutes over of course, many many months. And we will look for the chance encounter when a star happens to pass in front of some other background star. and. When it does because of general relativity the light from the background star, we'll be focused much like a lens by the foreground star and focused on us. As the stars move slowly through the galaxy and that brightening is something that we can measure and by measuring the Brighton time, we'll be able to infer. What the the foreground star was like. If the foreground star has planets, we'll see brightening from those as well, and in fact, even if these planets have a large moons will be able to see the writing for the moons planets around those stars and by doing with millions of stars will be able to track enough plants thousands. We think of planets around other stars that we'll be. Able to make a complete demographic census, all what planetary systems are like in our own solar system we have the eight planets and that we can see essentially all planets like that around another star, maybe not mercury because it's very small enclosed in but certainly every other planet even planets like Mars we'll be able to detect around such stars be able to answer the question definitively. Our solar system common in the galaxy is it rare the galaxy or may even be unique? and. Doing this, you'll understand our own place in universe Harris or got to be the way it's.

A surprise celebration fit for a plumber, Super Mario’s 35th anniversary comes with new merch, games

"Celebrated the thirty fifth birthday this past week with a surprise Nintendo direct and I want to hear your thoughts on some of the big announcement that were there including Super Mario all stars supermodel three allstars. The New Mario Kart Home Circuit, which is going to include I believe something that's. Actually physical as you know Nintendo, less to do these different things as far saying that just a regular video game. Super Mario, brothers. Thirty five, which is going to include thirty five players online battle game that's going to be very interesting to see I'm GonNa maybe delve into that one Super Mario Three d world plus browsers fury, and then on top of that to to add extra. Cuteness a Super Mario Brothers game, and watch which I thought was really Uberpool ripped takes me back to the old days on that one. I mean they just had some great announcements when it concerns the the thirty fifth anniversary of Mario that bundle of Super Mario Brothers. All Stars just with Super Bowl Sunshine Superman sixty four super. Mario Galaxy coming to the switch in a single package. I understand Nintendo making some chunk of change thereby rebuff bundling a lot of the stuff and repackaging lobby stuff. But my gosh or Mario isn't a bad thing I mean was it was cool. I. Liked the the Three D. all star remake. I am really excited about that by one beef with it. Is that why make it a limited release? They're saying you can only get it between September eighteenth and thing March thirty first or something, and then you won't be able to get it anymore. So that was more get it for now. I guess you know if they're doing like going back in the vault type thing but like that just felt feels really weird to me because switch like switch games don't have issues selling like looking at Mario Games, they go on sale. Ten dollars off. That's on a good week so. I. Don't think they'd have any issues. People would continuously by it as for the game itself I am excited I am going to get my preorder in this week I don't like I guess they I would have preferred like a more remastered version of Mario Sixty four because if you look at the video of it, it has the black bars on the side they kind of did A. I guess an up convert much like a a BLU ray player will up convert a A. DVD. So they did that bill excited about super excited about Super Mario Three D world that was one that I wanted to play but just never had the opportunity to S- announced coming back. So that's cool. Really interested not gonNA say excited but interested in that Mario Kart, the kind of augmented reality type thing which is really cool because you're driving the cart and it's creating this track on your screen that you have to follow. It's keeping your car from running into things so. Really Cool. But yeah, a lot of good stuff coming out of that. Well, what are your thoughts more Mario is not a bad thing. So whether or not as the the new Mario Kart that thirty? Online battle Mario the reimagining of the the bundle package that they're putting with all the older Mario Games in there. Yeah it's an attendance way of revisiting that nostalgia and making the chunk of change but we keep buying it. We keep sucking in we keep eating it up. So I just tell you marios one of the favourite characters that I enjoy the to me. That's not such a bad thing at all.

"Finally after many months of rumors the Mario Three. D. Packages collection officially announced surprise announced by Nintendo. This morning along with a bunch of other Mario announcements to coincide with his thirty fifth anniversary so. Super Mario Three D all-stars collection announcer switch mireles sixty four miles sunshine. Mario Galaxy out very soon. September eighteenth lots of people are. Apparently excited for it. pre ordering the game right now as we speak But there are also some reasons to maybe be a little bit irked. About the whole situation here some people are wondering why there's no more got institute in the collection. Some people were hoping for a little bit more Polish they're not remakes their ports of his games and also apparently they're only going to be available until March thirty first of next year package deal. Package and then what? Nobody knows what the future holds. Okay. The sunshine is in wide screen. It's and sixteen by nine and I think that's the only change like otherwise supporting the game's over Is Sixty four, sixty, four in screen. Also right now, I don't think so. Weird. Really In the trailer, they filled it into end with their. Is. Showing it they zoomed then yeah. They must have because I I i. think they explicitly said that only sunshine has been made wide-screen man that's so strange. They did that with band Kazoo just fine on the on the xbox a once and that was an Stevenson. I don't so much mind playing the original sixty four. My my only concern is, what have they done anything with the camera like the actually given it a camera that you can control. I'm sure the. It's like that will make that game. That's that's what makes that game hard to play for me the Federal Ian Control the camera I don't think it's that bad I. Don't think it's a it's a showstopper but I do know that the C- stick version of stuff was Kinda strange lot of the time to cameras a lot of work for you. It's definitely definitely feels like a different era of game, but it's nothing like playing rugby but one now or something like that. Yeah. I replayed my sixty four recently and That's one of my favorite games of all time. So I know inside now but yeah, you definitely spend a lot of time fighting the camera and. Many companies including Nintendo figured out how to do three camera in in the years after my sixty four, it came out. Yeah. Ahead. Okay. I I'm I'm a little bit down on this news. My Galaxy to is incredibly underrated and I think incredibly underplayed. Absence kind of baffling and inexplicable I understand why three world is not included because. They Nintendo does have sort of cottage industry of porting over we you games onto the switch and it's coming. You know what? You're probably GONNA get to it's coming as its own you know sort of full-fledged for. You know no three d land from the three s in no especially no Mario Galaxy to. Is a big bummer for me Instead of these three games, sixty bucks, you know some of which are over twenty years old in the case of Mario Sixty four it's a new bums me out like I I I'm I'm a little underwhelmed to. Sam How you feeling about. I it's amazing. I don't really like Meyer. Galaxy. Mario OCCC two. So I don't really care about those games but I really really really WANNA play sixty four on the go always, and then sunshine is ordering my favorite Games ever I. think it's so great. I'm worried about like I'll try galaxy again, but it's a little bit too acrobatic. Kind of run to the end of the level based for me and I think it's really cool. For what it is, but I like the more explorer type stuff goes no I think that I'm really confused about what they'll do because a lot of things just requires you to point at something and like shake we remote to just a lot of that in that game and so I guess we'll just change with button prompts where you'll dislike head you'll jump from planet to planet to planet the planet. Because there, there's a lot of like Gimmickry in that game for the we remote, they clearly will have to take out the the the two players stuff, and I'm saying that fully knowing that the switches capable of point controls, just half of the switches out there don't have those the system they address that you actually they re say you will have to buy a set of joy cons if you want to go. On and you can sink joy cons to your this which led yeah. Don't get. So maybe they'll have those options and then they'll also have the ability to change. Turn them off which be cool Yeah like I. This collection is just one of the things today and everything that that was announced. It was just like the coolest. coolest. That I wish was at an e three so I can walk around and see that booth.

An Astrophysicist On The End Of Everything

"So, before we get into it, we need to talk about something that will definitely play a role in the end of the universe dark energy. See Our universe is expanding spread on out and that expansion is speeding up. I think that's due to something called dark energy but they don't really know what dark energy is and there's nothing in normal physics that will do that like regular matter won't do that. You know it has to be something weird and whatever it is we call it dark energy but we do not know what dark energy is made of. We don't know how it got here. You know why it exists it might be just a property of space something called the cosmological constant that space just has this kind of inherent stretching in it, but it may be something different changes over time and could. Get a very extreme. Far. Future. The big rip. So depending dark energy is really kind of dictates potentially end of the universe. So I see what how long do you think that'll take you figure out? Katie like ten or fifteen years. I'm personally not working on dark energy. Partially passing the Buck Katie really. It's a very hard thing to study. Okay. Because it does is make the universe expand faster. Okay. Okay. So Are you ready to start talking about the end of the universe different scenarios as you will. All right. So let's start with heat death. Our Universe is expanding in that expansion is accelerating due to dark energy in in the heat death scenario our universe kind of continues to expand and expand and expand, right? Yeah. Yeah. What happens is that everything is farther apart from everything else you have fewer of these galaxy interactions, you make fewer stars and eventually each galaxy gets more and more isolated. So we will get to appoint. An emily about one hundred, billion years we will get to this point where we can't see other galaxies in the sky anymore because they'll be so far away their light will be stretched out so much that we won't be able to see them. and. So the universal just get a lot darker than our own. The stars in our galaxy will be dying out. So our galaxy will fade away and then. Even, black holes will start to evaporate because that's something that can happen to a black hole is that it can lose its mass through this process called Hawking evaporation. So black holes will start disappearing and then matter decays and then eventually you end up with the universe that's just cold dark empty, and all left is kind of a trace amount of waste heat from the processes of the universe that's called the heat death called dark empty. That's actually just sounds right into but really like that is considered to be one of the more likely and yeah that's kind of what happens if you if you just extrapolate from what we know about the universe's evolution today and assume that dark energy is this cosmological constant this just property of space that it has this expansion built in it takes a ridiculous number of trillions and trillions of years, but you end up with a basically an empty universe. Yeah. All right. So If dark energy acts a little differently than we potentially get to a different and game the big rip right you describe it. As an unraveling and this happens considerably faster than heat death, right? Yeah. Yeah. So the idea behind the big rip is if dark energy is something else if it's if it's a particular kind of stuff, we call Phantom dark energy where instead of just being property of space that actually is something that grows in intensity overtime something that there's more and more of it you know in each little space of of space overtime then it can be something that doesn't just move galaxies apart from each other and isolate them but actually tears the galaxies themselves apart. So what it would do is it would pull the stars away from our galaxy. So we'd see the Milky Way kind of. Dissipating, and then it would pull planets away from their stars and then it would start to actually rip apart stars and planets and thin atoms and molecules, and eventually rip apart space

Star Systems Can Be Born Topsy Turvy

"Our solar system is far from the only way to put together stars and their planets. They feel look at all the stars in our galaxy the Milky Way. More than a half of the stars are forming multiples meaning that there are more than once tar in system astrophysicist. Jay. Han. Bay of the Carnegie Institution for Science he has studied one of those systems with three stars. It's called GW Orion is and it's freshly formed on the a million years old. Yeah. It's really really young. Yeah. It's a baby bay says if you translate that million year lifespan. To that of a human, it's the equivalent of a week old baby and how many week old babies do bump into. If you just walk around your neighborhood, there's really little chance that you me the baby weighs one week old right. So first of all, it's hard to find these systems. They are pretty rare ban. His colleagues got lucky spotting this one using radio telescopes they were able to image the. Star system and they say, it differs from our own solar system in more than just star account in our solar system. For example, all eight planets orbit the sun more or less in a single plane. Think of the Sun as the center of a vinyl record with the planets strung out along the grooves in contrast as team discovered that the stars in this triple star system are ringed by clouds of. Dust in multiple warped and misaligned planes picture three-dimensional gyroscope rather than a two dimensional vinyl record. The observations in the journal Science those rings of dust will presumably go on to form planets as the star system matures and base as astronomers have indeed observed other more mature star systems with planets orbiting in these misaligned planes, and we want each under tenth if that happens at the time those planets worn or. Some evolutionary thing over you know billion years, the findings suggest that weirdly aligned planetary systems are born that way and that stars in their embryonic planets can be all topsy turvy even in their infancy.

Astronomers spot the biggest, strangest black hole collision ever found

"Black holes merged in a massive collision seven billion years ago, an event that was only just detected by astronomers. Quoting the verge, the distant show included two major players one black hole roughly sixty six times the mass of our Sun and another black hole roughly eighty five times the mass of our sun the to came close together rapidly spinning around one another several times per second before eventually crashing together in a violent burst of energy that sent shock waves throughout the universe the results of their merger one single black hole roughly one, hundred, forty, two times the mass of our sun and quotes. This makes this new black hole in intermediate sized black hole just the size that has always eluded astronomers smaller black holes called stellar mass black holes like the two that collided or anything between five and one hundred times the mass of our sun and are relatively common as are supermassive black holes ones that are millions and billions the time the mass of our Sun but anything inbetween they've previously only existed in theory according. Again the discovery could help explain why the universe looks the way it does with relatively bountiful scattering of smaller black holes and a few supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies. One theory of how supermassive black holes get so big is that smaller black holes merge over and over consolidating until they become enormous. But if that were the case there'd have to be intermediate black holes out there in the universe somewhere and quotes. This merger is also the farthest one. The observatory's detected it US based in Italy based Virgo have ever detected five point three, billion, par six from us. When massive objects like black holes merge they create gravitational waves that are huge literal ripples in space and time. But by the time they make it to us. They're barely detectable. That's where observatories like Ligo and virgo come in which have been designed specifically to pick up on these faint gravitational waves. This particular one dubbed John One nine zero to one was detected on May. Twenty first of last year and was just published today in the Journal Physical Review Letters in the astrophysical journal letters quoting the verge again lie go and Virgo only picked up four little waves from the merger in their detectors perturbations that lasted just one tenth of a second scientists working with the data used four different algorithms to find the wiggles ultimately allowing them to pinpoint the masses of the merger and just How much energy was released during the process of the collision the of seven times the mass of our sun was destroyed and became energy leaving the system. So it's pretty impressive in terms of energetics. If you think about it said Salvatore vitale assistant professor at Lago, the equivalent of seven suns was destroyed in a very small fraction of a second end quote. Yeah. In a tenth of a second, this black hole collision created ten thousand times the total energy that Sun emits over its entire lifetime. And here's another weird thing about this discovery. One of the black holes that merged the larger one with the solar mass of eighty five it really shouldn't even exist. Quoting, bad astronomy eighty, five solar masses is bigger than any black hole we expect to get from a single Supernova. Massive Star explodes the core collapses to form a black hole cores from about thirty two to sixty five times. The Sun's mass, which is huge are unstable creating huge positions in the star, which then explodes leaving behind a black hole less than sixty four times the sun's mass. Stars with cores from sixty five up to roughly one, hundred, thirty, five times the Sun's mass. Then these are absolute beasts very few exist undergo what's called pair production instability where energies in the core are so high that gamma rays very high energy photons of light spontaneously split into electrons and positron 's this robs the core of energy it needs to support itself and the results can be catastrophic. The Star can either have a cosmic paroxysm or. Can Explode the court itself detonates as well leaving behind no black hole at all stars more massive than that should leave behind black holes in the eye. mbH Or intermediate black hole range more than one hundred times the sun's mass but stars like that are incredibly rare. So a black hole with eighty five solar masses. These weird. The only way we know how to create one is if to lower mass black holes merged to form it and quote. So a lot of weird unprecedented stuff in this black hole merger. As with all great discoveries, it has led to more questions than answers. Observatories Ligo and Virgo off line at the moment undergoing upgrades. But when they return at the end of next year, astronomers are hopeful that they'll be able to detect even more mergers like this one and maybe shed some light on some of these

NVIDIA's Shield TV gets a huge update five years after launch

"As everyone knows here, we are an android news covering the latest and greatest android and everyone knows that I'm a big fan of the Nvidia Shield and the other day we were watching TV Anna turned on my Nvidia Shield and said and update is ready to install a two am and I said Ooh install now and then we had to wait ten minutes before we could watch. TV. So Jason, it even happens when you're watching TV but. Invidia Shield got an update. In fact, it's the twenty fifth software update over five years for envision she'll. Video she'll TV first launched may twenty fifteen, which is crazy that has been around for five years But so this twenty-fifth author update is a reason to celebrate because it includes some very features upgraded four K. upscaling system. The now works with three hundred and sixty P and fourteen forty. P in addition to the previously supported seven twenty P and ten eighty p. I like the support for three sixty P because I'm too. Yeah. Let's let's go down. Let's go down sizes. The PRO model supports upscaling for sixty frames per second content, which is great for sports if you're a sports enthusiast. And major update to the remote control interface. The customer button can now be programmed for double and long press actions so Much like the way you interact with the android with with double taps long presses, you can use the remote to specific area and hold the button to get a different set of actions based on the long press and you could actually. Program those to do whatever you might want them to do, which is great. And it had a few other updates for home theater applications. You know it it it. Support for HBO Max and a lot of their partners and things like that. But Hey, five years on product life cycle invidia still sending out updates. It's a gem in the video hardware offering. It's completely may you know it's complete change our home theater experience now, there's a remote control that's easy to use. My wife uses it the put shows on for the kids I love the Nvidia Shield I love they keep updating and so It's great. She'll TV go get it. They are not as Bouncer I, just like the product. So it's the I. Think I think again, we've mentioned it on episodes past this device was the family of devices would end up in our android hall of fame. If ever, we were to make that a real thing other than words that we say every once in a while on the show who knows maybe we'll actually create something like like an experience that you can actually go to and walk through and like Oh remember that. Yeah that's great. anyways. That's that's like a few years down the road and we all know why I think that anytime I see the she'll TV has another update like I. Find Myself inclined to add it into the rundown not necessarily because of the features because the features are great in and of themselves but just because I want. I'm sure you guys would agree I want to encourage anyone that's still supporting their hardware hardware five years later to keep doing it so I feel like if we keep like. Making a big deal of it. When they do it, then donald encourage them to do more, and then maybe that ends up being example for other hardware manufacturers to kind of do the same kind of like how far can you go? Where do we think? In is going to stop with this like what? What is the we're not gonna do that anymore update. Do you think we're nearing that or are they just going to keep going? Why would they? Why would they stop though people? If they just released the the released new upgraded updated hardware that's I got the Invidia Shield TV pro little set top box, one those came out earlier. This year right it wasn't last year this year I time it might have been late last year. I forget late last late last year it was like October November. So they just came out with new hardware people are still buying the product is going for five years android in Android TV keeps developing and and clearly some sort of priority for Google. So why stop updating the invidia might be one of the best examples of how to support your hardware. Yeah I really agree with you on that run one of the best examples of how to support your hardware it. This is akin to I WANNA say Apple Support of older iphones. Like because this is unprecedented in our android worlds and just lately we were like Yay Samsung is committed to three years for phones. But like look at Nvidia, they just keep pumping it out and you know I think it's because they realized. It was a cult favourite there. One of those really good. Manufacturers when those companies such a cachet in the gaming world that I think when they see that they have kind of. Fans, service one of their devices that they're going to support it because. You want fans fan sell things. In I'm. Jealous I'm jealous. I'm still here with my box. Okay. No shape jammie but is still working. You're having problems with them. Aren't you? We don't sit in that room anymore because there's white couches and I have a newborn baby. So I but I'll tell you every time we turn on that set top box. Like fifteen minutes twenty minutes of updates before we can watch anything. So we have to plan it can't. It's Power it up before you power. Sure that get those things out of the way. So it's there and working. That's no good The Shield definitely handles that differently, some folks in the chat are pointing out, and this is true that a lot of the updates in this new software update don't necessarily apply to the older version like the the upscaling I think is more isolated to the newer models, but there are some features and I think the point is that there they haven't forgotten it entirely right? Like there is a feature that's included here that says the older models. Now have an option to always match the frame rate of content in that's being displayed in a home theater setup. You know it's I'm sure that's a feature that certain people would might be really wanted to see but at least it shows that they're they're paying attention to it still and that they're supporting it. To some capacity and I I also wonder if their security updates are kind of included in here, I didn't necessarily see them call it out in there but I would like to think that if they're doing these software updates, they're also kind of paying attention to and platform security updates to keep it secure, and if that's the case, then that's that's great as well because that is applying to the older hardware no matter what they're paying attention and that's more than a lot of manufacturers are.

"Willing to bet that what is going to happen is we're going to see support for Intel's Iris a GPS. That are on on the core chips you you know. I think that's the night sensation. Eighth generation somewhere. They started putting Irish. GPS inside the processors in it's a better GPA than they. I used to use We've also got the new. Amd Ap us that are appearing in chrome OS PRODUCTS AND AP stands for Application Location Processing Unit and it has gp you support and Regular CPU support built into one chip and the on the GPO side. It works a little bit better than Intel but chrome. Os doesn't support all of that stuff to play game yet. If steam officially comes to the chromebook without you having to enable links go download the steam DB in package and then installed the one library. That's missing and then just run the package in install steam and then everything just works poorly Orly but it works officially that. That's not official officially means I go somewhere I click a button and install steam to my chromebook and it just works and it works a lot better than it does now which is a pretty big deal. Okay so the obvious question. I have when I hear you talking about that. And all that work that's going into building. GP acceleration support into chrome is. Isn't Google doing all of this in the cloud. An arts the best games that you can find on steam eventually going to be available on Stadia. which is Google's purpose built L. streaming platform that you can already play yet in a browser? Why the hell would you want? Local steam support on a two hundred and fifty dollar chromebook which is which makes up the vast vast majority right rumbled right out there because even Google recognizes that a time Time Warner and comcast don't have unlimited data for a whole lot of people and you can eat up your what twenty gigabytes whatever they give you a month a playing games in the first ten days of the month and then you're kind of screwed. That's you know that that was my i. Guess as to why they would want this number two you get to partner with valve it. Anybody that can partner with ow you you make money from that instantly it it may not turn out to be successful in the long run look at the HTC five compared to what Oculus has done but htc originally partnered with valve and in the early days of the are the vibe was the go to the are headset and they could charge more for it and it had built steam integration and you turned it on an steam had a special vr mode. Everything just worked and it was wonderful and it short term solution that made it more popular than the competition so partnership with a gaming company like valve if you want to attract Gamers is nothing to sneeze at and number three. Let's go back to that coolness factor. I can do everything on my chromebook. Except edit video for real you know long amounts of time or play AAA games unless I stream them. Well now how this could solve that triple gaming thing right and that could make chromebooks much more lucrative to a widely no vastly growing growing. No no because what Daniel said most people own a two hundred and fifty dollar chromebook. Experience is not going to be great. But I'm willing to spend and more on a chromebook because I use them so much. This helps justify that costs even more. Yeah no I get that and it. It's still unlikely CLEA and I don't think it'll ever be likely that people will jump. You know go out of their way or jump up to buy it thousand dollar chromebook. And I really don't think that the Samsung Galaxy Galaxy chromebook which is being kind of positioned as the Pixel book to is going to sell numbers because the pixelbook didn't sell in numbers and and no thousand chromebook is ever going to sell a numbers. But I just find it interesting I find it interesting that this is is something that Google is even pursuing given given its lack of attention in this field today right the fact. It's it's having such a hard time getting developers to build experiences for chrome natively. I just wonder how useful this is going to be. But that's that's the that's the cynical part of me coming out. I know you're absolutely right. I touched on that. Don't look a couple of weeks back that the biggest problem with these thousand dollar chromebooks is heat. I don't care you can put the best. Intel core is a seven. I'd even go with I nine. Well no you couldn't. You can't even put an I nine in there because it would wouldn't even be able to turn on without throttling. He he kills the stanleys super thin chromebooks. That's why I don't have a lot of faith in the the new galaxy chromebook to be any better than the original pixelbook That's not to say it's not going to be a great chromebook and do a lot of cool things on chrome but it doesn't mean I'm instantly gently gonna be able to render four K.. Video because if I wanted to do that now I turn it on and then check it in the morning and hope that it's finished because everything throttle all so slow it's just a mess There are a few chromebooks out there that have actual heat sinks and fans and I'm going to have to hit up a couple companies to see if I can re borrow one of them if this Steam support becomes a real thing. Because that that could could be interesting you you you have a heat thermal solution built in and now you have hardware acceleration and now if I can play Sky Ramona chromebook. I'm going to. You'll never come back to work. We're going to get on a plane to West Virginia and we'RE GONNA make thirty minute video jerry. Playing Sky Ramona chromebook. I think you should just twitch stream that every day Odalis start my new job. I'm fine with that. 'cause you'd get so many people watching you swear so much they'll be like the most you'll basically injured his own game. I don't think just swears I think he's family friendly. So so I'm family friendly. Yeah your family friendly and like a cuddly way but then you then you like bust out at F bomb and everybody's like wait a second. He's not he's not as TAME as we thought there's the Jerry we all know and love all right so last thoughts on this are what are you. What do you think is the kind of five year plan for Chrome Os aside from steam support? Like do you see it becoming a more full featured at some point or Google. I'm just GONNA double down on what's happening. Focusing on enterprise in education focusing on prison education has worked out pretty well for them so far far. But I think trying to. You can already do pretty much everything except hardcore video editing hardcore gaming on a chromebook you can do regular light video editing through Web APPs and through android APPs you can use android APPs for pretty much any productivity besides cad rendering and like quantum computing of something kind I think it's about making chromebooks. Look cool for are mostly being three hundred two hundred four hundred dollar laptops. It's about having these thousand dollar chromebooks. That look awesome in order to help pull away. The chromebooks are just cheap. Disposable computers idea that chromebooks have accumulated over the last ten years. Right yeah I guess so. I mean the chrome of that. I'm sitting here on right. Now is three hundred dollars has an aluminum lid. And it's Nice Pretty Pink. It's a touch screen and it's got sixty four gigabytes of storage. which is all I need? Once I slap micro S. T. Card in it. Yeah but you can't record this podcast on it. 'cause doesn't Rondo dusty you still those. Pc for that get get does follow the guide. I just wrote. Yeah it's it's three clicks audacity is installed in. It doesn't accept. It doesn't support microphones. Oh yes in that little that little kid acidy. That's helpful. Thanks Jerry so I mean that's what I'm saying right like if you want to build if if you want to record a podcast running skype and acidy at the same time. You still can't do that and that's that's just annoying and stupid and it shouldn't be. It shouldn't be an issue in two thousand twenty. I mean how many people podcast. So that's not even the point. It's like there's so many there's so many things you say about it. Like how many people do on their windows or Mac. PC's and those things add up. How many people edit photos? How many people edit videos? How many people do do pro editing? You can do your knee and really and it still editing photos. Maybe B- but there's nothing in light room on. Light Room is bad. Bright Light Room on a chrome book is just still. It's bad jerry. They they have versions of the adobe creative suite no but they have replaced Sir that work in some cases better but like most Lennox APPs APPs. The you is just a dumpster fire. And you'll hate it and I say that as a fan of Lennox acts nobody that writes them cares cares about the user experience. Just while I've got picked slur acts and that's good enough for me. Ninety five percent of the time and the other five percent of this time I crank out the this surface pro three that I've had from Russell for the last four five years and breakout photoshop. And a little bit of skype skype audacity for podcasting. And that's that's all I keep a windows machine around for. I just want to say before we have to cut out of here. We're we keep saying chromebooks Steam support for the chrome box is a game changer. Yeah but how many crumble. We were just having this conversation today. There's like three chrome box. Yeah Yeah but hopefully You know the rumor that all these companies have plans for new ones to come out sometime in the second quarter this year. Turns out to be true and that this also gets integrated with a chrome box and now you have an an actual viable alternative to the playstation or the.

"Their reason behind this initiative. At least they're public reason was. was that the all this e-waste is gotta just be put to an end and you just created more by buying Amazon Buds. I I just created more by buying aftershock induction headphones so we we're proving the point but he only wants to manage only he wants to enforce this for smartphones right now right right sure. And that's a big step but I also will say that the more important thing is the assumption that most people already have sufficient numbers of cables chargers in their house in their possession and and that many products should not come with any charging capabilities at all right. They should not come with charger charging cables or a C.. Adapter solent point. And if that if we're going to take those measures if we're going to go the step to standardizing charging port. We need to acknowledge that. At what is the actual reason here. Is it to democratize charging the you know I. I I do want to talk about Apple's position here because Apple is if you want to make the argument it is the biggest problem right In this equation. And that this this is this is something that is probably not going to happen because of apple because apple will push back so hard and it's also really important The the EU doesn't want to mandate mandate USB see. They won a mandate a single charging interface church exactly and that's a good distinction. Although right I mean the chances of it being USB are basically a hybrid it's going to be US BC unless apple says everybody can use lightning for free it will be US BC. Even if they say everybody can use lightning for free it would still be used. 'cause lightning can't do like any higher power charging urging for laptops part of why I love you as I have one charter that I can bring with me to the parks. And it'll charge my chromebook. It'll charge my phone. It'll charge my headphones if I bring my ear buds instead of my over your Headphones I have a power bank in my gear bag and it has sixty watt power. LARY output so I can charge my chromebook at full speed or my phone at full speed. You also mentioned that Some products will not take a charge from the CDC cable because some products not work. Yeah they don't support. PD that is a problem. But it's also very obscure problem like for example. I have two cables nick next to me when I work I have an eight AC- cable and CDC cable. And I was charging my headphones. I put them in there expecting them to be done by the time I left to take my dog for a walk and they were dead when I took them off the charger not realizing that I charge them with the CDC cable and they just didn't take any no power at all. So I I mean how do we solve the fact that today in two thousand twenty is still a gong show. The USB doesn't enforce their suggested did guidelines that that's the delivery does right. Oh they don't enforce any of it you can make you a you can make a a a widget aged with a USB port on it that does anything of phone television whatever and you can use that port however you want a it used to be a the big problem. Will you know when qualcomm was using it in weird ways and they were they were within their rights to do that the USB see USB consortium consortium a God. I don't know who it is. April is bizarre. USB Consortium hadn't agreed on the SPEC yet so people were just like okay. There's no SPEC I'm just GONNA do. What are we? Aw even today you can get your product certified but you don't have to. You can just use it. It's free and open The I hate to see anything anything not become you know become less free and less open but if you want to make everything interrupt or in our interoperable double the first thing you have to mandate specifications for every single person. That's GonNa use it or you just trust people to buy certified products. I was looking the chargers this week to recommend in an article in one of the Amazon Basics chargers isn't certified so it's not getting in there ready. You are the exception. You Ain't you know. What a certified certify charger is at Gerry? Going back to the fact that people you know I brought up the fact that most people already have cables and chargers most people people don't know whether those chargers cables are of good quality especially if they're USB so if you got a twenty dollars or thirty dollars. Dollar pair of wireless ear buds off Amazon even if they charged via USB C.. The cable is probably going to be pretty crappy and and if it comes the NASC- adapter it's going to be like you know ten or twelve watts new. I mean that's more than enough for for a pair of ear buds but maybe be just poor quality altogether so that they can save money and still advertise the fact that they charged via USB. I have a couple pairs of ear. Buds that I just received in the mail there under fifty dollars and they charged by species. And that's something that we're GonNa see a lot in twenty twenty because all of these companies are basically using the same you know turnkey template right to build these products and now you SPEC- has come down in price enough that they can advertise it as being user friendly. It's it's a mess. I jokingly said Andrew's wrong end end of discussion This is a mess that somebody needs to do something about Maybe the EU not doing it the right way but at least somebody's bringing it to everyone's attention that look. This is a mess that has to be fixed. A you know if you WanNa talk about e ways as let's talk about the crappy little cable that you get a gas stations in at ups offices and they sell three different kinds of cell a USB lightning they sell us via Usb they sell a USB you are you at a micro espy. We don't need all of these little crap accessories. We need good accessories that can last a long time. That's the waste reset needs to be cut down and we'RE NOT GONNA be able to do anything about that unless those companies just go out of business which I don't think is really going to happen. But then they built it and they have tons sounds of inventory that they need to get rid of exactly. The stuff is being built. Just because it's inexpensive doesn't mean it's crap oh absolutely I've got thirteen dollar. USB charger right here. It's the size of a quarter and it charges at eighteen watts. It's GonNa last me the next five years and I love it. The whole problem with USB cables. Both that we had originally was because they weren't being built right The the cost factor was a for a penny. You could build a one hundred of them the correct way and it was just they they were being built without the correct wiring configuration and that was frying devices. Prices I I. I don't want to disparage your favourite. USB cable that you bought at the gas station for a buck and a half because it could be a great cable. It's just copper wire but I mean it's this is like standards. It's really complicated. I would love to talk about this in comparison to say something like HDMI because you know HDMI's been accused of you know not every cable. Port looks the same but the actual standards that are built into those some of those cables are older. They won't support new features but at the end of the day. That is the kind of argument that companies like monster get away with charging sixty dollars. Hd My cable. Because they're saying we're we're leveraging the latest standards to provide the highest performing hd my cable but re- in reality if you could buy a four four dollars hd Mike cable that does the exact same thing and support sleep standard because a multiplex and also But that's the same with USB. It's just that the most companies are not doing that yet right and if you don't know any better the best thing you can do is spend too much money and buy something that you know. Works from a brand. You're you're paying for the brand really not necessarily for the technol- know the best thing you can do is come to android central dot com and search urge and we will tell you which ones work. and which ones don't but most people if they don't know they equate price with quality. Yeah and that's not going to change anytime soon. I mean there are companies like Onkar hockey. That are building really high quality products. That aren't that expensive and there are plenty of them around around so if you want to get our recommendations might as well plug it while we're here go to android central. I think it's Sir SPEC- cables we have a pretty good round up. Yep Okay Let's move on. I just WanNa talk quickly before we go about this steam coming to chromebooks rumor This was a a little tidbit that that was shared with android polices editor in chief. David Schreck friend of the POD and What what was said was specifically that Google anticipates there will be like the Galaxy chromebook from Samsung Higher Performance chromebooks released throughout two thousand twenty? That have high more powerful. GPU's and Google extensively GONNA work with valve to officially support steam using the lyrics for chrome os platform a jerry. As far as I know you can already run steam on a chromebook in some form. So why is this a big deal because as of today you have no GP hardware acceleration in Chrome Os. I mean I I. I've got this team on my pixelbook. Go and a lot of the games the really light games they run okay. But I can't like for instance install skyro- I'm on it and the Sky Room is what ten years old now and it won't run it. It's just uh three frames per second nightmare because to scare him. There is no GPU because you you just can't use hardware acceleration I'm.

"And the S. ten regard fingerprint sensor sensor. That's true and and I actually. That was one of my favorite features about it and then this year we're looking at the s twenty plus being sort of that that middle child that nobody pays attention into but that that seems weird. Right what's your take on. What Samsung's doing I don't know why they're doing this mini models this year unless it's a matter of the five twenty in the five to Like the five. The S Twenty s twenty five G. is just a matter of which market gets which which could very well be but I don't don't get having three every year because that means you have to have X. Many skews you have to market each and every model and you have to get accessories for each and every model and and that's not really a great move for anybody because it just makes everything more confusing and in North America you have to convince the carriers to WanNa stock and push each in every model yup yet does seem like Samsung of all the companies. Though is the best prepared for that kind of all right well lying. How many phones do they? How many smartphones do they release in a year? It's gotTA be north of fifty yet. I mean just in Korea in India and China those local skews yet. I I don't know fifty but definitely like twenty to thirty I would say I don't actually be an interesting topic to look into every single little difference in just the last sixty days not counting counting any I guess twenty. That's coming. We have had the ten light the note ten light the eighth fifty one in the seventy one. That's four models before we get to to any major events for the air. Yeah it'll be it'll be interesting and that just seems to be the trend. Every company is following right released more phones zones make them more tailored to every possible demographic and location optimize them for particular networks. Start working with carriers again. It's almost like we're going back as are you implied we are literally going back to two thousand ten you. You're seeing the granularity clarity happening again. But I think it's coming from a different place. A lot of these phones are using the same foundation so they will onto. How many did we have right? But they all look different right. They all had completely different They'll have a different body the and different feature set whereas this is basically just a metal and glass sandwich that they can reuse over and over again in the The S The s ten light in the no ten light are virtually indistinguishable from the front. Right they are basically the same phone with different specs. And you know that's just GonNa continue a fifty one and a seventy one look very similar. How unique can can you make a phone look anymore? I mean we could start doing actual cool colors again. Said of just doing these Prison sprays and then black and white. Somebody's GonNa fight you for that. Those are that's like the one I walked pretty bluestone. I won't pretty green phones. I won't more pretty purple whole phones and those are all coming out Asian. None of them are coming here. I Daniel I agree with era. I I don't want to buy a a purple or green phone but I want them to be there for people that want to buy them. I'm not disputing that. I just think every company is trying to follow particular trends ends right and you know. There's only one company setting those trends. I mean we gotTa Chromebook with a pragmatic back at CBS. And I want to try that sucker out. But that's not designed matic back. Well I mean it's also the follow up to the C.. Four thirty four and I miss that chromebook so I wanNA play with it but but I wanna see how that back looks next to all the different shiny scales for the Epcot Golf ball girl so okay Galaxy s twenty. We know it's coming Weren't we know that they're going to be at least three models. We know that there might be a foldable version. Listen don't don't do it. It was it was rumored to be called the the galaxy bloom but I think that was the internal name because we heard that it's now going to be the Z.. Flip Galaxy Flip. I can't imagine them ever calling a professionally released prior to bloom. 'CAUSE my mind immediately goes to blooms and then it rots. That's that's a Florida thing. I think. Just call the Qin Galaxy swamp all right so let some. Let's move on and talk about the Pixel for a so in addition to there being three or more galaxy s twenty phones There are now going to be maybe three Pixel for a variance and this comes to us from. XTA They're looking at it. The names of these phones. The internal names written within Ao S. P. Now Jerry as as a developer you understand that companies especially when they're uploading sue open source projects. They can't really hide everything that they're working on right but they try to obscure skewered as much as possible. Google must know that people like Michelle are digging into EO spe- You know get Ross. Worries and whenever there's a new entry they're trying to find little scratches of information if you read some those entries entries it's obvious they know and they're having fun with it so totally. So why risk these leaks coming out right. Why actually you know upload to get to the the repository at you know at this point before the development is finished well because it's probably a collaborative project and Google is working with qualcomm? For example you know or or any other company that does hardware and or software and it's open source you you WanNa do that collaborative sharing thing as soon as you can to make the best product you can make They use code names. And there's a very good chance that the three a new code names. We have one of a Missouri product that will never see the light of day or maybe even two of them. It's just some internal. What if thing that? They've got sitting on a bench somewhere. They're playing with. That happens every day too. I think after looking at it that yeah we're GONNA see three pixel four as the four a the four day. Xl and my money is going to be the four A. X. L. Five G.. So you actually think there will be a five G. version of the way. They're they're not gonNA make the the Pixel four a xl five G. by default because then they're mid range. Phone is now better than their high end. Phone in a lot of people's eyes even though it's not really eighty five g isn't a thing yet but you know how people are so okay. So but that's GonNa make that's going to Some sort of force the cost up to five hundred ish prod. Why would google do that? I mean the four three excels already for seventy nine. So we're close to five hundred. Let's say the two hundred the two four g phones the versions are the same price during nine and four seventy nine why put the pixel four a xl five G.. Up to five fifty or six hundred which is then come close to the Pixel for two reasons There are people who will want a of five G. Pixel Pixel model. And they won't want to wait until November to get it and they have to see what they can do with android to optimize it for five G. Connection and I don't just mean you know the networking stuff Five g you know yourself that the connection can be very spotty you can have great service one minute and the next minute and have really poor service and then it goes back to great There are probably a lot of things they can work on with inside android itself to deal with that weird network latency. No latency thing that that five Gi gives us and they've got to start somewhere. This is probably a good time to start so this benefits Google and they they. They're going to sell a few of these things to people who really want a five G. branded pixel if there are more than a handful of those. I'd be very surprised. Yeah I I'll bet they are still more popular than the regular Pixel for. I agree with that. Because the Pixel forays. He's going to have a regular fingerprint sensor knock and have motion since so. It's not going to have that big ugly Chin Beautiful Chin Necessary Chin. I have four in motion since his great great when it works it. Those are really do a whole lot yet. Emotions garbage it should not. It should not have shipped this year that that is just. It's it's a waste of a feature as it is if we could program our own gestures. And if it connect to tasker it would have been brilliant. That will never happen until they released one without without it. That's the thing this goes back to the next days they've got to put the feature out there for developers to look at. Yeah I mean it's it's not it doesn't make sense for google soup. Put anything like motion display or face. Unlock in it's it's cheaper phones right now. I'm going to happen not this year probably not even next year. This is going to be a very very typical approachable approachable mid range phone phones. And they'll be great and we know that they'll be great because the pixel three a was probably the best phone of two thousand nineteen eighteen. And I've been using I was going to write about this at some point but using the Pixel xl for the last couple of two weeks. I took it with to Vegas and because I was using the Pixel four reluctantly. Because when I'm working I'm always near a charger. It's easy and I knew that if I was going to vegas I wanted the Pixel four with me because it has the best camera it just works but I did not want to deal with bad battery so put myself in the Pixel Pixel for excel and with January patch. Most of the issues that I have with it at launch are gone right. The brightness issues the fact that ninety ninety hurts was only kicking in after like seventy five percent brightness those idiots secrecy are gone a turnoff motion sense so I don't have to deal with it. Face Salak is reliable so at this point Mary. I'm very happy with it and I'm going to write about how just like every Google phone. I only like it after three three months. You know after three months I love it and I won't ever use another. I won't use another phone. Basically fulltime until the Pixel five comes out and I got a lot of crap for reviewing the Pixel four as negatively as I did basically said to people don't buy the Pixel four and I was on the specifically about the small one and I'm going to stand by that because it's battery. Life is so bad that if you WANNA use it for more than a few hours a day you you basically have to be a wall hugger and I don't recommend that experience to anybody even office workers you don't WanNa have to rely on having a battery or power nearby. You should just be able to use your phone phone without thinking about it the Pixel. Xl gets me there most days. And I'm and I'm fine. With the Battery Life Wireless charging batteries or a thing these days salon so salon. Keep them lined up in your pocket. No no you should never have to do that. That's ridiculous anecdotal evidence the January batch improve who've barry life when the little.

"I'm okay it's Friday. It's it's good it's sunny it's cold you know how do on this side of the earth. It's like Canada here now to baby Yemen where we're exporting are are sorry we're exporting are sorry down there. We're getting fifteen centimeters meters of snow. What does that translate to in in American about six inches or so yeah? That's a lot of that so I'm Gonna I'm GonNa Enjoy The Sun. We have it all right enough enough weather. Let's Talk Android so we just did a podcast. It's you there's a lot of stuff out of this year but nothing. Nothing mind blowing. But in the meantime we've had a lot of news and this week. The s twenty just started leaking left and right right and we now have hands on images we now have a summary of what's going on with the cameras. We now have a date for the event lent. We now have a pretty good idea of the skews. There's going to be like five or six cues if you count the the five G. versions and we basically know everything about it except what it how it feels in the hand right. We don't no. No if Samsung is going to do anything. Major to the software but harbor wise. We are getting a better idea. So let's jump into that And later on in the show. We'll talk a bit about the new Pixel for a leaks. we'll talk about some EU regulations that are potentially quite controversial and Jerry. I want you to dig into what you think about. The new ones one plus concept one and how one plus going to balance a hundred and twenty hertz screens and battery battery life and if we have some time we'll talk about steam on the chromebooks because that was a that was a juicy leak or rumor. I guess this this morning morning from David. Rodak at Andrew Police. So let's start as twenty. Ara when you see the twenty. There's three models s twenty s twenty any plus and now a rumoured ultra version. What goes through your mind? What is Samsung doing with itself? The first thing that comes to mind is why are. Are we going back to this. Twenty ten era naming scheme where we have twenty we have an S. twenty plus we have twenty five G. We have twenty plus five g and we have This pro or ultra five G.. Model I mean come on guys we we went through this already. We know how to name a foam pederson. This Tom. I'm not a huge fan of the huge camera modules on the back mostly because they just make it harder to find a cute case for a phone or you just find and a decent case for a phone with the camera modules. That big there's drought wore explores. I believe in protecting my phone's no matter your taste your phone needs case. Yeah you gotta you gotta find like a rhyming tagline that you're almost there but That that should be like your tagline tagline whenever you introduce yourself hi are wagner if you If you want to stir foul needs a case that's the badge on a lot of my case round ups so so there are five skews Jerry. But we're not really sure what's going on with the five G. Ones because the rumor has it all of the QUALCOMM powered versions will just be five G. Anyway so Samsung May or may not call them. Galaxy s twenty five g may just be galaxy s twenty and then five G. will will be implied but in other parts of the world where the exodus version doesn't come with five G. on board. You know there. It will be five G. Capable Bul but not every single exodus. Nine hundred is going to be five G.. Exactly what I was thinking. Yeah the North American versions are just going to be see the s twenty plus ultimate in five years implied Super Mega. Yeah okay so we're still in that sort of transition position year where every model may or may not have five G. enabled right we know that the qualcomm eight sixty five snap during a sixty five. We'll have five G. on board regardless but some vendors some carriers may choose to disable it or just you know not offer it What is your thought around what Samsung is doing here by going ultra right? What is this needs to sort of continue making the phone so much bigger. Even though we've kind of reached the limit of what our hands can can can deal with what my my biggest problem. There is with the name but for different reasons from Eros problem with the name Ultra implies that the regular version isn't very good. Yeah and that's I don't know maybe that's how my mind works. But when I hear you can buy the twenty s twenty plus or the s twenty all tra. I think well the other two must not be very ultra at all And then I find out that they mean the size so you know everybody thinks differently but I think that was a swing and a miss with the name and I you know what then if they're going to do it just sticking SPN in it and do away with the note. The twenty ultra is now the new galaxy note especially because we had a note light that came out literally early two weeks ago. Like long is there's only so many derivatives you can make your and Jerry might make a problem with the ultra is that I just instantly go anime with it. Especially since my hero academia's huge thing go beyond Plus Ultra. I'm like Oh is it a galaxy S. twenty plus there's a galaxy S.. Tony Ultra cool. Ah Okay that to each their own I love you anyway. Okay so we do know that there are going to be some hardware differences in the ultra version specifically jerry. The fact that the rear camera. The primary sensor on the ultra is rumored to be the new hundred hundred and eight megapixel You know super condensed censor from. I think it's Samsung. Let's building the one eight or maybe it's Sony. Samsung has a sixty four megapixel. But you know obviously it's using pixel binning to over increase the size of the overall pixels after processing processing rand when you choose to use all one hundred and eight Megapixel as you are getting considerably more resolution but the other two versions are rumored to have a larger twelve megapixel sensor than the previous three versions of the galaxy line so Galaxy Galaxy s eight s nine s ten all used a variant of the EXA does or the X. More three sixty series and and they have one point four micron pixels. This is rumored to be one point. Eight microns which is better right impaired with the dual aperture. I heard the F. One over five. Widest aperture we could have much better low light performance on this phone. But what are the differences is right. Fundamentally between a large twelve megapixel sensor saying a slightly physically larger but much higher much denser hundred eight megapixel the Pixel Sensor. I'm trying to think of the right way to say this. So everybody understand so I don't sound like I'm trying to impress people with with big words. It is megapixel count doesn't matter nearly as much on these tiny little sensors as has people think it does for starters The only company I ever think that did any huge megapixel count right was Nokia and that was because because they used it to gather information and then cut eighty percent of it away on. What was it the ten twenty? I think the Nokia and twenty so they had some sort of camera that one hundred some odd megabits. Yeah I remember that one. It collected that information but used it to create a more refined image and throughout half the megapixel count. So you didn't end up with a you know a two hundred Megabit J. Peg I just recently wrote something about censor- size on on cameras and how it's designed so it looks great on the screen in your hands and most good cameras. Nowadays will look great on a twenty seven inch thirty inch inch monitor or even on your TV but when it comes to comparing them to bigger sensors it's it's different. Because of the sensor size Samsung increasing the base size from one point two to one point four microns on the non ultra versions. I think is a much bigger. And possibly more breakthrough kind of thing then having some hundred megapixel plus plus camera on the ultra. I love to be surprised and I'd love to be wrong but I really think that people are going to be disappointed when they think they've got hundred megapixel camera and then they see what it can do right so one hundred eight megapixel 's is a lot but every photo is interpolated interpolated down to twenty seven mega pixels rising Quad Quad Bayer type of of system. The the temperature down to free upload quality. Young does and doesn't matter anyway. That's true I mean if you if you are uploading anywhere twenty-seven mega pixels is useless. Seles but yeah I mean. It preserves a lot more detail and presumably. This is a Samsung Sensor. I just checked. Presumably the sensor itself is is going to be quite physically large right you know fully. You mentioned the the pure view camera on the Leumi. Ten twenty that physical sensor was at the time the largest we'd ever see the reason One way can claim that some of its processing is so good is because is it starts out with just a massive physical up primary sensor and and then it just has you have the best of both worlds you have larger physical pixels as well as a more detail to work with so and here. You have way more because it's one hundred eight megapixel altogether a lot of people don't understand you you say the word larger pixels they think that's a bad thing because on your screen you want tiny any pixels but on your camera you went giant pixels right. so that's something for everybody out there to to keep in mind too. It's GonNa be really interesting but I'm still going to say that. I bet were more impressed with the smaller air quote Cameras cameras that are on the other two just because of the larger individual pixel size. How much better they were than the twenty nineteen version so the other thing that the ultra may have that the s twenty s twenty? Plus don't have is a fifth camera altogether. So let's run them down while we while we have the rumored SPEC sheet in front of us a main twelve megapixel or one hundred eight megapixel primary sensor answer with a wide angle. Then we have a rumor. Ten X Optical Sense A. T. T. Forty Eight megapixel sensor with a ten times optical zoom which is a lot and Could be completely game. Changing of the quality's good right. There's a twelve megapixel pixel alternate camera on all three then. There's an unknown camera so we've seen the photos of the back of the phone. We're not sure what that fourth cameras is. But it's possible it's adept sensor it's possible yeah. It's a time of flight sensor. We're not sure. Ultra something on the Ultra v Lens. That is rumored to be a macro Lens. Jerry I'd love your take on this because whenever I get a phone that has a macro mode and actually he works. It becomes one of my favourite most von. Isn't it yeah awesome but even you take a a one of the great phones that take great great pictures like a pixel or of you know an a galaxy S. and or While way I haven't tried to P thirty but the twenty they they all take great pictures. But we've all seen that message move further back for better focus well with you have a macro lens you don't you. Don't get that and you can take some really neat photographs and have a lot of fun with it. It's very difficult to do unless you have dedicated. Lend so I'd love to see it there. I'd love to hear your thoughts are on where you think. The sweet spot will be this year because there's a lot of talk about how with with the S. ten. Most people got the plus because people just want the best phone if they can afford it and then many people got the s ten e because it was cheaper deeper and.

"Several times are you going like days days, make oh my goodness. Holy crap. Or is it weeks? How often do you get those like, oh my goodness. We just discovered this or we just found that or we just confirmed this. I would say it depends on how excitable. Positive feedback is always good though, it is. So the thing that I am I group and doing in the last two years that's very novel is usually in the simulations what people will do is still put their computational power in the very dense regions. So in the is where the stars are actually forming. And that makes sense if the observations you're trying to compare to are the pictures of the galaxies, the properties of the galaxies, the things that are easy to measure, and what we were coming to realize was well, most of the volume and most of the material is not in those very dense regions and that a lot of the activity. That's happening is happening in these very low density regions that are further out. And so we created some new techniques for adding sorry improving the. Spatial resolution in this very low density regime. So we were you know, every time we look at these simulations we see something new because we're using this new technique and that can get berry every time. Yeah. So every time we actually have a new plot that we make from those. We get very excited, and you know, the the from the national point of view if you're used to just looking at. You know, little squiggly lines from spectograph, and then using your imagination to interpret what's going on in these large-scale cosmic bubbles. It could be exciting to tactfully see those happening, you know, in an animated gif on slack. It seems like the the cosmological equivalent of light is someone giving you like, you know, five pixels, and then someone goes enhance, and then you can see the the license plate. And you're like, oh my goodness. It's amazing. But you're actually doing that. You're really pulling. Yeah. The the analogy that my one of my colleagues uses is. It's like putting on a pair of reading glasses. But the actual the the words that you're looking at had changed. So you have this picture that you expect it low resolution, but when you actually allow the physics that's happening at the smaller scales to do its thing. Then, you know, the whole picture changes, which is very exciting in it. But I mean, these take, you know, minis, you know, easily ten times longer to run than some of the more standard simulation. So we understand why people haven't really tried to do this before we joke, some time sometimes programmers that you know, there's a lot of time where we just like go to lunch and come back to see if the compile has has finished when you run simulations like how much of it is just like hanging out waiting for the thing to go. And like these things taking months or how long does it make for the O eill of it? I mean, I I have some runs that. I started back in may that I really hope have made it the fourteen billion years of cosmic history. Maybe by this may maybe not. They take months and months and months. Yeah. What if you forget have you ever been like, oh that run is done. What was I doing? So I've haven't have not ever had that happen. The the supercomputers are very good. At emailing you when your job is finished. And so you kinda get in this pattern of please the longest walk time. You're allowed is five days. You get very used to every five days lucky in recent meeting all your jobs going away again. And I've got mine on a scripts they back up automatically. So I don't even have to do that manually anymore. My favorite though, was a simulation that when we were just starting the on this project. We asked a colleague to run for us. And like two years later, we were like you don't want..

"Clusters dwarf galaxies refining don't have these dark matter halos and i'm just kinda lovin this it makes some problems much easier to explain and others harder to explain and anything that gives a kuzma logist challenge that i get to sit back and watch enjoy being about yeah i'm good all of that now there's some pretty fascinating kinds of dwarf galaxies that people have identified in the last decade or so and done a lot of observations so i don't know how i mean i know you're dwarf galaxy nerd but things like the ultra compact door so i don't know if you did any research in like the most dense stars in a galaxy in the universe or these tiny little they're like globular clusters on steroids well they're essentially transition objects between globular clusters and galaxies and this is one of those things that leaves many of us just sort of like okay how do we explain all of these things because there's a lot of relationships that almost make sense with globular clusters being the leftover cores of disrupted galaxies which is one of the things we brought up last week but they're kinda missing black holes it looks like maybe but it's hard to look and see then we find these alter compact objects and we don't know if they have black holes or not and they seem to be another kind of transition object and without knowing the full history of these objects without being able to get good images of the early universe to see when did all of these different things come into existence we don't know are these oltra compact galaxies a transition between large electical and dwarf elliptical galaxies are they something entirely unique in have their own fascinating history so this would fit in with the idea that globular clusters aren't cores of galaxies in our instead formed in all dense high pressure regions so dwarf galaxies globular clusters are really the kinds of things you need to look at sidebyside ursa minor has the exact same stellar composition as lobby cluster but completely different ken matic's how do we get both of these objects these are the things we can't figure out yet yeah i mean it's a great theory to say oh globular clusters are just the leftover cores 'cause they kinda look like the core of a galaxy you know after everything's been stripped away but the part the kind of holds together is the core and so all of those globular clusters that we see in the milky way they're all just leftover remnants the pits of the freight that we could meet and the one that's i think the people think is most likely as the omega coster a mega san which is pretty much yeah the largest cluster in the milky way i think it has its own supermassive black hole heart of it and it really has a lot of those characteristics it has multiple generations of.

"Conference without another press release on tidal stream from dwarf galaxy discovered right absolutely that's one of the things i mean unfortunately it's getting to the point where it's like new planets discovered that we don't even report them anymore you know uninsured back in the beginning a galaxy found shredded in the milky way is a pretty exciting story but now it's like me you know whatever so but those are the ones that are you know the milk who has consumed in the past and then of course the large and small magic clouds there's other dwarf galaxies that are around us and just part of the local groups who have learned anything new about some of these the not the ones that we've torn up and added to our mass so our discoveries fall into two different scientific groups of information the first one was we initially thought that it was unusual and some weird fluke that the majority of the dwarf galaxies going around our own milky way galaxy go around the disk of the galaxy on drama has the same thing we assume that we were just weird because all of our models all of our understanding cosmetology at this fine grains don't have enough data yet level indicated this should be randomly distributed around galaxies and as we've gotten better data that his allowed us to see dwarf galaxies forming and existing around other systems we've come to realize that no they just had to be in the planes of the galaxies associated with and we can't explain this because you would expect them to come in randomly from any direction not to be nicely aligned in the wave of the are so i mean does that mean that they were spun out from the galaxies during the formation process or does that mean that they were they weren't spun out so that would imply that as our galaxy formed as it became the nice disc spiral that it is globs of material got flung out like kids falling off of one of the.

"Spirit around our galaxy and around many other galaxies there are some free form once just floating around hanging out between the galaxies but the places they really are found is in these halos of galaxies white globular clusters the smallest among them formed all of their stars during a single epoch of epoch star formation the earliest supernova from this first generation of stars had such amazing shock waves that they actually were able to push all the remaining gas and dust out of these systems leaving behind just lonely stars oh yeah so they're cute they're small in our galaxy and drama they're found pretty much in the same discus the rest of the stars dust and nebula in our galaxy andromeda and when we first recorded talking about these objects we said things like they have the highest ratio of luminous too dark matter of any object that has been studied and other things like that that are now entirely foued to probably be on true hopes so can you go into little more detail on that what did we used to think so it used to be that when we looked at these little tiny galaxies and studied the velocities of the stars within them the last days of what little gas we can see we found that the velocities seemed correspond to these systems being made up of ninety nine percent dark matter and one percent regular everyday stuff that we can see into tact and what's interesting is when we made these original assertions we didn't scrip our observations refine but we based our calculations on the premise that let's just calculate it for the dwarf galaxy only completely forget that the dwarf galaxies like embedded in the halo of our own milky way galaxy and that was lightly problematic so would you say that is now you've moved into the things we've discovered the things that are new that we know about gal yes the biggest thing is just how many dwarf galaxies have been discovered here in the milky way so out of you know how many have been found that number in front of you now but lots yes what is the technique that they've really pioneered and used to find all of these galaxies well largely it's just counting stars that have similar composition and age so as you look out with instruments like or surveys like the sloan digital skysurfer vay guy all of these large area surveys that have very consistent photography trie and any spectroscopy at all allow us to say hey over here there's a whole bunch of stars that have these characteristics and and look like they could have all come from the same parent population but oh look they form a stripe across the sky or we don't have the ability to measure in detail the characteristics over there but when we count the density of stars on the sky what we find is there's a stripe of over density where there's a higher population than we would expect that is consistent with an arc of stars across the sky so finding well shredded tidally disrupted worth galaxies is now something of a sport for people working in these surveys.
