"The view. I haven't had to say the words you know who in a while but you know who is back in the headlines. Thanks to new york's. Da convening a special grand jury in their investigation of whether he had a hand in his business committing criminal bank fraud insurance fraud and tax fraud among other things and now costs. He's denying all charges with his goto. It's a politically motivated. Which claim joy when you think he's really worried about all of this. Well you know. I was reading that ninety five to ninety nine percent of all cases that go to the grand jury. End up in indictments. So i mean. I'm a betting woman and i say he could be indicted very easily and i think he's probably trembling of course he'll deny everything it's a witch hunt says that when he was impeached. It was a win chon when they said he was involved in the insurrection. It's it's always a witch hunt and he's always completely innocent. But you know that you're going to find his accounting. This weisselberg are under a bus any day now any day and ivanka who is he. I don't know who he is. He's only been in the family for fifty years ivanka. Okay so stop it. Stop it all. I know whoopi is when he's indicted. I'm going to have a big party with mexican food. Opin yada margaritas everything. I can't wait. I'm having a severe case of schadenfreude as we speak right. I do you believe this. Come out of the house. Sure this case is making him shake in his boots. Maybe this is the one. Take them down a peg. I have no idea. I've become a little cynical and jaded on this stuff. There seems to always be a lot of smoke and we never quite get to the source of the fire. I feel like the former president is like the energizer bunny. He takes lincoln and keeps on. Ticking i remember way back to the russian collusion. You had the hush money payments the call with the ukrainian president. You had the seven hundred fifty dollars in income tax and the not paying federal taxes for ten or fifteen years that we were able to see. He led an insurrection. Like historical never seen before insurrection. He's been impeached twice. And the guy just keeps popping back up. Like i don't know if he can be taken down and i'm beginning to believe that his statement in two thousand sixteen about shooting someone in fifth avenue and not losing voters might be more accurate than we thought it might be not losing voters and just not getting in trouble right. Some of your formal prosecute a federal prosecutor. What does this move signaling to you while grand. Juries being convened usually signals the beginning of the criminal process and i think joy joy stats are probably dead. On most cases that are presented. Before a grand jury do end up in criminal indictments there's that old adage you can indict a ham sandwich and i don't believe that is true but the grand jury being convened means that a grand jury is listening to evidence there listening to witnesses. They're listening and then they're going to decide whether or not to that. There's enough evidence to charge a crime. And so i would think that you know. Everyone should really be very concerned. His team should be very concerned. He should be very concerned. His family members should be concerned because they were part of the business. Ivanka trump should be very concerned. Donald junior should be very concerned You know no president knows no. Us president i believe has ever been charged with the crime but he is likely to be the first one in my view right so megan do you think this may put a little damper on his plans for twenty twenty four. I mean there's a lot of rumors about twenty twenty four right now. I actually think he won't end up running. I think he wants to see a lot of things that are happening. In the world that he said would come true with biden's policies and everything that i've heard through different channels is that he's actually pretty happy right now and getting good about his legacy. I mean take that for absolutely a grain of salt i mean. He's notoriously fickle. I think moving forward for republicans. There's gotta be someone who is going to be able to bridge the maga- people and bridge you know the people who couldn't end up pulling the lever for trump this last time around which will be a very delicate dance. I do think it's possible. I do think there's a lot of policies that are being put in place by the biden administration. That if you are right or centre right you won't be happy with and just reading stats about crime levels going up in major cities historic levels. So there's a lot of ammo for the right. When i sort of agree with what. Sarah said i remember when the muller report was like geraldo rivera with al capone's vault. I just feel like. I've been told for five years that he's going to be handcuffed in trotted off into jail. And i'll believe it. When i see it and they have it. We'll be right back still ahead. "He's made news about this Hyde amendment flipping and he's made news over plagiarizing the on the kind of proposal, he came out with the one thing. Joe Biden cannot do and play such a stupid Lacey thing for him to do. His staff is letting him down. That tweet wasn't Biden. The infantile tweet about the friendship bracelet, with my best friend, Obama. We're got it right there. What did you raise land? Well, you're, you're right. I think he's got a I think he's got a he's got time to get it together. But he's got a gun. He does have to get it together. I think for the Hyde amendment. I know that he's always struggled with the issue of abortion, as a Catholic, and he has set bad, that he's had to sort of evolve, and he doesn't want his fate to be part of his politics. And I'm in that same position. But it just seems to me that when you have women of color, and black women that make presidents, and you realize the Hyde amendment affects predominantly women of color, and African Americans and for him to sort of come out and not recognize that immediately. I don't know that it's you can even call. It comes it almost just seems to be. I don't know it. I don't understand why he wouldn't recognize that. He's been a Senator for so very long. He was the vice president for eight years. He has to understand his constituency, and I found, I think that's going to be very problematic for him, actually. Well, the Hyde amendment was historically, a great compromise between pro choicers and pro-lifers. And if you don't know what it means. It means that I it bans federal funding for abortions, except in the case of rape, and incest, the government won't be funding abortions. And I think for him he was four it for forty years and to make this flip, and there's reports out that said it was a alyssum Alano calling him the actress and him getting pressure from people like that. And for me everyone knows how much I love Joe Biden as a person. He's, he's truly the most decent person running in my opinion. I think flip-flopping on something like this. I actually was surprised by it because he's filling the moderate compromise lane as the candidate and your. Not going out progressive progressives. If Democrats want to progressive, they're going to go with Elizabeth Warren, or they're going to end up going with Cory Booker someone. That's so much further to the left. So he's alienating the lane that he that I still see the easiest way to beat President Trump and you're alienating, a lot of moderates, and especially for pro-lifers like me, this is this is kind of a shot fired. And I've struggled with this all weekend, because I know that my placement on the show is going to be tricky, because obviously, I hate President Trump, and I think, just on a moral and ethical standpoint he isn't fit to serve..

Andrew Rannells talks 'Black Monday'
"Thrilled today because Andrew rannells. My guest is not only in black Monday on Showtime, you so I've been book a Mormon girls we were just talking about Falsettoes your hero of mine and come on. Oh, I'm real ten. I'm so happy to be here. Thank you for having me. So look it will never get better than this. I think there's nothing left. This is my finally this is it. I'm retiring after this. Let's start with what's the newest black Monday on Showtime. So it's just you again, even though it set, I'm sure before you, even drew breath. Now now, it's I mean, I was I was a kid at the time. Seventy seven was not really aware of the stock market crash of nineteen seven when I was that age. So so it was very interesting to sort of learn about all of that. And what repercussions that had? But this story is it's Don Cheadle and Regina hall. And I. And we are the sort of ragtag group of traders who work for. A lower financial firm on Wall Street, and they're really trying to make a name for themselves. And it sounds so professional as you describe it. Well, I mean, you said ragtag ragtag these people are basically insane. They're pretty nuts. Yeah. They really they don't know. They don't know abound. Are I think that the this time in this world and particular in the financial world of the eighties in New York? There was a lot of excess and a lot of celebration of excess. And I think we really leaned into that quite a bit with this show. It's very strange because your character Blair is excuse the expression the straightest. Yeah. Of the characters on this show, which is really fun to get to do. I mean, I really haven't gotten to do that since the book of Mormon really that was the last time I sort of got to play that up tight guy, and it's fun. I enjoy doing that. I enjoy I mean don's characters is larger than life. And it's really does some crazy crazy things. And was it's. I really enjoy getting to be the straight guy who has to be there to witness all of this insanity. I get to do some crazy stuff later. But we do a good job of sort of topping ourselves with every episode to see how how far we can get because the other things so we're leading up to the stock market crash. But it really is about this group of people and how they're sort of individual petty, greedy actions have these larger this larger effect on the the world of finance, and it's, but it's about this human interaction that gets very messy between these people. Well, you sort of discovering things about yourself your character, aren't you especially cocaine there's like cocaine it had a major affect on him. Yeah. He really takes too easily. Ooh. You know? We've come a we've all been there. You know? It's funny. I got to sort of be the I mean, Don by far would be the expert because of his role in boogie nights. I think he really obviously did a lot of cocaine, but I have done a lot of fake cocaine because we did it. I did it often on girls so girls head to what is the fake. It's vitamin B powder. Offset so hard to believe it sounds so healthy. I know, but if we did as much as we actually do I wouldn't be here. I'd be dead. I would have had a heart attack. But I thought actors did everything for their art. No, I come on. You've worked with so many people even Robert deniro I did work with Robert in. And I sure that had he been playing this part winning. Yes, I'm probably he would have doubled down. He would if I let you down Mr. barrow, Bob Bosley. You wanted to be called Bob I called him. Mr. Niro, I think a wise personal choice. Right. I I didn't really know how to behave with him. And we worked together we didn't have a ton of scenes together, but we were often onset together. And I just never knew how to behave because Nancy Meyers the director told me she was like he doesn't like to talk about his career. So don't start asking him questions about like raging bull. Don't that's not cool. So then you'd find yourself like next to Robert deniro trying to make small talk. And I just out of like panic would start cursing a lot of hot other four. She will scorcher. What is that air conditioning? I turn into like a lunatic. And he I that was the only way I could. And I'm sure that just in dear. I'm sure well, what's that Cupido looking guy to cursing his face based off? Yeah, I'm sure he'd loved it before you had done black Monday. Yeah. Darned, Cheeto, Regina hall. Did. You know, these people. No, I met Don when became see the book of Mormon, but was just a huge Mirer of his but never worked with them in Regina the same. Like, we I've been a fan of hers for a very long time. But we never crossed paths before. So you know, pilots are weird because you you get dropped into this group of people that you have to you have to bond and create this thing with very quickly. And then see what happens in your sort of still figuring out like who are these characters. What is the story? And what are we doing? And in a way that you don't even really experience in theatre. Although sometimes you get those jobs that are just a couple of weeks long, or whatever, and you sort of have to you come together very quickly, but the stakes are a little lower. When you're doing a television show like this, you really have to just double down and hope that you're making the right choices. But luckily, the three of us and Paul Shearer and Horatio Sanz and. You know, great supporting cast that that really just jumped in altogether.

Don't don't like not possibly especially premium capable table. They're just like not capable of in finding it big little. Will is. So I guess we'll see in ideal world, which just be twelve episodes. Each episode is a month into the year long stretch of the stories of old, and then you're done and Showtime to will just like keep putting your show on the air still on. I I believe. Yes. Really looking forward to whatever like the California -cation expanded universe. The young moody seasons that we're going to get. Wow. That's deep gut before we move on. And how far we haven't come. We have a great. We have a great. Can. I say great episode about are you could kind of turn round. Yeah. We talk around. But we it is a dressed in the show and sexual harassment seminar. That is one of the first sexual harassment seminars. And why the characters even when they say sexual harassment. He's like what is what? Yet. It was the eighties eighty remember some of. A line. And then the character says, and it's a comedy. So I understand that you are very much the active Twitter. Yes of tweeted sweet. And I was always curious about it. Because I don't read what they write about me. I can't be bothered. For negative. I just stay away from it. So I'm wondering do answer negative twits tweets. Turn to the twits of their when their. Yeah. I mean, it's I think it's one of those things where I mean, really just kind of a diversion sometimes between takes. What did they say on Twitter, you know, but it's an interesting platform to to be involved. They didn't have always been somebody. Who's been pretty vocal probably comes from my upbringing, and my mom specifically who is you know, very vocal and just always been told that you don't start fights. But you get into fight. Not to bring up touchy subject, but you were in some kind of a little argument with Kathy, Kathy. It was really an argument. She said something what was that about? I have no idea kind of came out. That had to do with the fact that she got in trouble for the Trump head thing. And that you she said that you were her friend, and then you didn't really support Howard. She was mad about that. So. We weren't friends. I mean, not not dissing like, no, we're not friends, but I didn't maybe a friend on Twitter, a member on a plane, and and we had a conversation, and then that happened and people commented, and I literally tweeted that picture though with an emoji here fringe face, and that was enough to trigger and set off a lot of people felt that way. I think she felt very alone though. Yeah support. And I said, look, it's I somebody said to me in a restaurant is walking by goes. I hate her to hater too. I didn't say, hey, I don't hate her. No. I don't. But you know, this is my. Right now. I mean, it's not your problem. No didn't do it. You don't know her? Okay. All right. Is your new show black Monday, and it's fictional take on what have must have led up the stock market crash in nineteen eighty seven. It's about excess and greed in the eighties. I have to ask the era the Donald Trump gave us did. He come up at all in the show. We talked about that a lot actually. We think that's correct reaction. We we talked about should we send him up. Should we land bass them? Should we not talk about them at all? And in in different Selanne, people see the show and see how we deal with it. It was a topic of conversation as we were talking about the scripts and because you know, he's very prominent obviously in the eighties. That's where we have all heard about him. So it comes up valid you guys. And you have a very diverse cast and its depiction of Wall Street was that intentional the the casting. Absolutely. I mean, I was out Pat myself on the back through. In the show. It was very important to me that she cast. Yeah. And your hair whole thing is just you guys. I was born anymore. But. But I. What's interesting about this time too? "Welcome back one year after the insane racist sexist uproar over French Open officials banning the catsuit Serena Williams war, which by the way was to prevent blood clots fans cheering her at the stralia open for wearing this romper with fish nets. I always want to know why why don't people know that she's wearing compression. Why don't they know that this is a medical thing for her? And she's trying not to look dowdy an awful and keep the the beauty and gorgeous nece her going. What is what is the issue was up with y'all? She has blood clots. My sister, almost died shed ten blood clots on our lung the same condition. That's renew. William that's has and she has to wear the same compressions whenever she traveled. Does. It's very serious. I think people like to pick on her because she's the best player in the world is she gives it right back to them as we seek to. As you come so much for the league. I mean when she went out on pregnancy leave and when she came back her standing in tennis had dropped so much. Now that rule has changed. So she has made such changes in this Lee, and those fish nets are compression, garments. I you know, we have so far to go. And she is the goat and tennis. And I'm just I I don't know why. On the cover of sports. Yeah. Her drug tested more than any other player and twenty in. And I I've said many times, I I love three and Williams for a lot of reasons. But part of it is her documentary being talks about her struggle with wanting to have kids in her, quote, which I had to tell this to my husband and let Serena speak through me. She says I knew it was coming. I was like Serena you're thirty five you're ready. This is what you want. She's sort of talked herself into having children. And I think that I related so much that was because I'm like you want your body should want this at some point. And but it impacted her career she dropped to the bottom of the ranking, and then they should screwed over by league. That being grew. This is the annoying the other annoying thing president of the French tennis federation and American federation, you ought to get behind her on this because you know, what she's going you. Let people talk about like this mass says one must respect the game and the place. The game. I don't is respecting the gay. She's about his player on the planet. She has brought more respect more beauty more for NASCAR. She is not a pen. So she looks like a woman. So yeah. Most Frenchmen, I believe really get Serena. I'm not sure why you don't, sir. If there's one thing that he loves more than anything. It is sitting in front of people and being able to whatever the heck he wants our turn. We can't Jenny's been working on this speech apparently for weeks, and Gary Cohn has been working on it yet. That's the word enough. Cram in the world. Shredder street, but Gary Cohn, his former member his chief economic adviser, right? Who's now studying it at Harvard. He said I'm confused as to what the White House strategy is in terms of the White House another another of they're trying to get around. He's trying to figure out also really there. It is. We don't right..

"There's a baby election coming and the question on everyone's mind is your tender and twenty twenty a run for running for president. Are you running for president? You're going to run for president. I'm pleased to announce on the that. I'm not ready to make my now. Much on the line in this. Epoch year ahead. Anybody who's anybody who wants to make it to the next level in politics to come on the show because this is the place to be heard Republican wanna make news come on the show your view on ABC. Later, lack Monday stars done Cheadle and Regina hall. So yesterday's we Nancy Pelosi said, you know, who might want to wait Cup wings before making the state of the union address on the floor. Congress citing national security concerns brought on by the government shutdown. Now, she suggested doing it from the Oval Office or submitting it and writing to congress which has been done now homeland, she's. Curse Nielsen since the secret services prepared for this. So what does that make you laugh because I'm not a huge fan of her because I find she's choppy, you know, so she could say the style is blue, and it might be, but I would doubt her. Yeah. That's just how I feel what I think I think secret service is not getting paid from what I understand or certain they say security planet. Started months goes still some of the employees who would be involved in the planning currently are on furlough and not working including people in the intelligence and logistics roles. I I wouldn't feel safe most of the agencies for the secret service agencies employs are considered essential and have been working without pay for the past. Several weeks is not essential and the control is essential. You kidding me? Yeah. I don't want to say the union though, because of our state of the union shutdown. Yes. Eight eighty. I'm sorry. But our stated unit currently shutdown of our leaders in DC can't do their job. Why should we give them a platform to speak? I don't want to hear from anyone until they can actually get back together..

"It a little something. That's really. Go that though, I was watching it in real time. I was watching the show. I felt so sick. You know, as a lawyer sweetie is a lawyer. I was like what's going on? And Chris a lawyer to the weird thing about it is, you know, first of all that what's the central question of the Muller investigation is was there collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, and then you have recently Manafort coming out, and basically that pleading does everybody remember that pleading that came out when metaphor basic the campaign, basically had that pleading here? Remember that link to me, it was the polling the Russian that Manafort gave pulling information to the Russians. So so that they knew where to plant their lying heads against you. You've said at the bedrock. So there's like no way that there wasn't collusion. So for route even to save that I just I think he was just getting tripped chop shops. You know, she had no show pony for Trump credibility. Of course. He's really. Ability trip. Mayor Guiliani may not have the same credibility. The mayor of the city is very sad. 'cause he was American it may relate to feel. I don't recognize this man anymore. I've I've said that on the on the show before I think we all have had interactions with him. And we have I think the Trump administration sends him out as a show pony to distract because it's Harley entertaining. We were laughing you aren't you look sad. But I shall break. The The US US hurt. attorney your a wonderful after nine eleven, and I will always be grateful for that. But he's moving the goalpost for President Trump right now, we didn't cool it. We didn't collude. Didn't maybe we did. And by the way, the definition of who's really brought it's a secret agreement or cooperation especially for an illegal deceitful perfect. It's so odd. That's not Trump. Campaign manager, but I would love Guiliani to do a series and a real and not that that's not what have. But if he wants to do a serious sit down where it's not this sort of like emotions on people to look into this books and see what happened with president Nixon everyone around him. Knicks Erlich Mun and hold him in his two henchmen went to jail. It took about a year rate of them to show. All of this. He said there was no collusion. Now. He's saying he didn't say it was no luge. There may be a time when we just say whatever Rudy. Yeah. Whatever we'll be right back. Later. Serena slams shame IRS how one year after the racist sexist uproar over banning her out, but on the court. Serena Williams has a brand new look that has the crowd going wild..

"Are you have to start? 'cause I would came into the office today. And I found this on my. Would bass you were also Andy Cohen's mazal of the night last night. Yes. Any other than Texas yesterday saying, thank you. And it was so genuine because it's been a concern of yours for so long. Well, some bring it out almost every more. I do true because somebody said to me, do you realize that if I had a heart attack on thirty four street trying to get to the nearest hospital could take a Whealy long-time. And even when the the rural is going, you know, people aren't moving cut. There's no place to go cut you meridians, and you got parking in the middle of Willis great. Yeah. My favorite part was when the audience mutinied because you'd like this way, and because there's a bunch of New Yorkers and you're like, no, it's not no, it's not. Audience on side. Well, I I, you know, the thing that prompted it really really badly when we had that huge major storm. And every all the folks saying everybody realizes what they original premise was. Yeah. Okay. Originally. I think the premise was he wanted to have less cars. The mayor wanted less cars in the city forgetting that many people work in the city have to commute because the buses and the train is always run. Okay. But that's not the here. And there is that. Let's put bike lanes. Bike lanes. Everywhere. You can't make turn you can't go anywhere. Traffic is really slow. He said there's less cars on row. Well, it seems like there's less cost 'cause they're not moving. So I've been mentioned about this. Because a if you're going to ride a bicycle you should know how to ride it in the lane. You should have to wear helmet. We tell kids to wear helmets. All so I have a lot of things at this. But the thing that really sort of got me was when we had this giant snowstorm and everything was locked, you know, one could move anywhere. Well, it's because you couldn't move the Meridian because it's made out of concrete to make an extra lane. So 'cause ca pass now you're gonna do this make movable let us be able to pick it up and move. And so there is God forbid emergency people can move around. So I was just I had added and it takes ninety if you wanna go to the. If you want to go to leave the day before sure 'cause you're really thinking like listening. Him. This shows about though, I thought that was exactly you know, what we're fair. But like you're not gonna walk in here. Scot-free starting to Titian things. They're gonna come in on this show anymore with free pass those days along Don they never got done..

"Like the YouTube shocking from Massachusetts from Boston. He's got the gift of gab, you know, and I guess, you know, Regina, king gave a good speech there. So like that Richard E grant grave, get great speech. So I don't think there were many academy members in the room. But like, you know, they're all they're all good at this award stuff. So I hope to see them gets do more. I wanted to say just just from the outside. I love like I love that ceremony that you guys have. I think it's one of the loveliest. I love the way that you guys have people. Do tributes lake. Let's get 'cause into rentals in black Monday Showtime show with Regina hall. Yeah. Which I got this. Great screener like shoutout to Showtime publicity team. I got the best greeter package of all time for for black Monday. But India rannells giving like a, you know, a tribute to Regina hall is like a really fun part. Like a fun vacation from the like expected award season stuff that we're seeing it was. Yeah. Yeah. And. In the night, kicked off with Martin Scorsese. Introducing pulse rate or with Nord. So it was. Yeah. It was a fun night. But back to the broader stuff on before we go to an interview with sandy tan that camp Collins did is there a movie for both of you is kind of a dark question. Is there a movie that you think like one film that you think could just get like blanked completely at the Oscars like in maybe not in terms of nominations? But like something that's really fallen by the wayside. I mean, I man, obviously, I think but and then beyond Regina king. I think Bill streets in trouble, which is a shame. That's was jumping to mind for me too. Yeah. I might have mentioned earlier. I did a impromptu you high-stakes Oscar bet last night, and I picked if Beale street could talk instead of a tiger fee. Just because like, that's that's what my heart wanted. So, you know, you know, me always funny with my heart. I think it also has music possibilities for that. Yeah. Propelled it so. Yeah. It's really it's a film. It really has stuck with me longer than I kind of expected, despite the fact that I love Beijing is generally. I guess I'm a little worried that Black Panther is going to get nothing. And like I was arguing lesson. I was like it's gotta get some technicals. At least like it's God to do. Some like Mad Max cherry road stuff in the technicals. But what if it doesn't and then Black Panther walks away with nothing like, I think it should be honored for something for what it was this year. I don't think it was the best picture best film of the year. But I think it should be honored for its contribution to the culture this year. And I would be really disappointed if it wasn't it'll be a bit disappointing. Even if it just does that thing that the best superhero movie of the year it which is win like best or whatever, you know. Because I think there was a long stretch of this year, where we thought this thing could, you know, would be a best picture serious contender, you know. And maybe it's still will be. But so far lately it hasn't been looking quite like that. Yeah. And it's funny. You talk about. To be old enough when we're Peter fairly square choice. It's funny to be old enough where I'm like rooting for that little underdog, Disney marvel. Well, yeah. He. But I feel that way about it. When I was reading my Golden Globes right up, the kind of ended with like, you know, that we had been theorizing about maybe like, you know, he wins because it's a number two and a lot of ballots, and I was like, oh that would be nice. You know? Yeah. But there's a lot of films like there's a lot of films that made a Bagilia dollars last year that I don't feel this way about obviously like vendors Infinity war, even though like the FX are kind of amazing like I cave vendors of entity war walks away with nothing despite it being like this big big big event. But Black Panther just like is this emotional event as well. And so that just feels more valuable to me, obviously, I think it really is quite a hill to climb and not to go back again to the eastern hawk conversation..
