"Shock Dude, It's right there on the billboard, America's best racing work you into the Billboard Hawk. True story. A man. I only read what they put in front of me. That was not an improv by me. You're a part of the copy. Oh, 1 806 368686. So you want to go toe America's best racing and also S O N Yo check breaks down the field. And I want to get this little bit later on any old check is not a guy that Is known for being a tremendous hockey mind and player announcer coach player Who dabbles on the side and horse racing, and so is one of the preeminent handicappers in America. So I will get to that and his thoughts on the Derby little bit later on. Daniel Jeremiah joins me in about 15 minutes. Stay on the NFL. Why not on deal like this? Let's talk much NFL is possible. A Seattle Yeah. Checked at a Seattle Yeah, I got some really good news, Seattle In fact, I've got some great believing News. Seattle. Yeah, You know that entire offseason drama surrounding your star quarterback and future Hall Famer. Russe, Wilson and the organization. Remember all that stuff about him? Getting tired of having his ass kicked on the weekly him wanting more, saying the organization? Him being okay with being traded to certain teams. If he did not get that say, or get some help. Remember all of that drama? Come to find out. It means nothing at all. Nothing. They're just smoke. Of course, it's not coming from Ross himself, but it is coming from the next best source bubble. Yum Peed bubble Yum P. Carol, and if you can't believe, and you can't trust B y P c. Who can you believe? Not only are he and Russ on the same page now, in fact, the bubble, Yum er himself said at his presser Yesterday. Russ has never been his hyped about a season as he is the upcoming season. Right now, he is this jacked up as he's ever been. He's in the process of turning over a new a new offensive stuff that is different from from the past. And things that we need to learn. He's totally after doing a great job. His mentality is strong, and his conditioning is what right. He's doing a great job, and so things were said. Things were said, and sometimes you have to do with stuff and that's that's how we take care of our business, and we're in a fantastic place right now and really excited about this team. And this season in this draft coming up and all of that. Right. So that's the first time that Pete had spoken with reporters since the end of the season. And, as always, Peter had lots to say, and he said it in a high rate of fast rate. Now remember after the Super Bowl when Russ went on that many public tour And he had some disdain over getting their hands every week from opposing defense is he suggested that he would like the same sort of say that other great quarterbacks have in personnel decisions. However, the Yum er Says that he wants to set the record straight on that, too. He played that obvious card from the bottom of the deck, where he blames the media for blowing it out of proportion and reminds everybody that words can and often do get twisted right From the beginning. I was talking to Russ. We spent hours on the phone over this offseason talking and we worked it stuff and understood the topics and subjects. So there really wasn't a problem, You know, So there's nothing to put the pin in to me is in the fact that there was a couple things that he said, and he realized how volatile the simplest of responses are. Hmm. Yeah. Thanks for that, Um er I'm sure you probably wondering if that's the case bubble yum er. Then why did Russ is Asian? Mark Rodgers tells ESPN that his client would waive his no trade clause for four teams. Well, apparently the Yum ER has an answer for that, too. You know, I had made a clear statement to rustle, you know, let Z just shut down and be quiet on the stuff. We don't need to say anything that we know the truth of what's going on. When that came out that kind of got over the over the top, and it opened up some other conversations that Didn't need to happen. And that was an example of why we're quiet and what we don't say anything, and so just me was so meaningless because it was had nothing to do with what was going on. So it was just kind of Ah. Another little bite in there people could talk about and I wish we would have avoided. That is what I'm saying, right? Freaking rogue agents. They're the absolute worst. Am I right bubble Yum. Peter. I don't know my guy. Yeah, I don't know. It's funny How all of this just got blown out of proportion and taken out of context. I mean, what do you tell me Next? Did Russ really hasn't been sacked nearly 400 times in nine seasons that you're not a gum chomping, chomping to generate that you don't talk really, really fast. Yo yammer. This guy's been sacked on average over 43 times a season he is on pace to pass the slinger for most sack quarterback of all time in the next three years. Now I know some of you. Some of you have the Youngers back on this summer. You want to say, Hey, Rome, if do did not hold onto the ball so long, and if he wasn't always trying to make some big play, he wouldn't be getting the crap beat out of him every single Sunday. However, I see it the other way. I see it the other way. What I see is a guy with incredible pocket presence. A guy who does feel the pass rush is well is anybody there is a guy who's mobile and athletic is hell, and it's still getting the crap beat out of him on the regular And what I see is a guy who's frustrated and pissed and I get it and I agree with him. That's what I see. And normally what I see is how it is. Just saying And what I see is some old dude furiously working the be yum. Who seems to have a tremendous threshold for his franchise quarterbacks pain. And you're gonna tell me that Russ no longer has those same exact concerns. You're going to tell me that Russ is perfectly fine with the team doing next in nothing to bolster his protection. Yes, I'm aware they brought in gave Jackson who I do like But I don't think gave himself and this so called new scheme could single handedly relieve Russ off the stress off eating turf every Sunday. Like, I don't know. The Seattle really improved all that much, but I know pretty much everybody else in that division Did. Arizona signed J. J Watt and they're gonna match him up with Chandler Jones, A healthy Chandler Jones. The Niners get Nick poster back the Rams. Well, 99 is still 99. They've also re side Leonard Floyd. And if you paid any attention last year or recently, Leonard Floyd is enjoying himself some Russ of late They also have a draft coming up right? Everybody.

"For hanging out with us on the Thursday NFL playoffs. Coaching search is Robert Sala. All those things the bills are taking on the Ravens. Lots of things to talk about. With Brian Billick, Super Bowl winning coach of the Ravens at coach Billick CM on NFL Network. You read his books. He is a multi dimensional power and he joins us courtesy of the only guest line. Hi, Brian. How are you? How are we doing this afternoon? How we're doing good. We're just We're just counting the hours down to more playoff football. We like to Super Bowl a wild card weekend, but the divisional Zehr always where it's at, right. Yeah. I love the divisional weekend because, you know, I think we've got great matchups. I think you got the right themes there. And you always to me always. That's where you really learn about what's going on in the league Directionally. I know the championship in the Super Bowl, the top two teams, But when you look at these eight teams, you get you get a real sense of what the direction I think it's fascinating that we have this dichotomy of three future Hall Famers, You know you're talking about Brady. Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. And then you've got this cadre of young guys, Uh, you know, with Josh Alan and Pat Mahomes and Lamar Jackson and certainly Josh Alan, great great contrast in terms of the old school versus the new bucks. Fact, I think it's the oldest ever in history in the NFC side of it in the youngest ever in history coach on the A F C side and I'm watching the NFL network is replaying Baltimore at Buffalo last year in Orchard Park. Has that recall. Buffalo did give them problems in the run game, but they don't have the offensive weaponry and the Ravens wound up winning by seven, but you're obviously close to the franchise into the preseason games. Lamar Jackson We know what a great runner is. He may be the best running back in the league playing quarterback, but how do you assess him as a thrower from his rookie year? I thought it was the most improved player in the league last year Not only the M V P, but the M I P And then this year times you thought maybe he regressed a little bit, And when he came back from covert, he was better. How do you assess him as a as a thrower of the football coach? Well, he's good enough. I don't think there's a huge improvement from the end of last year. Uh, I don't know if there will be. I think what he is, is what he is still struggles, little bit drying outside the numbers. But there are times he can crank it up, and he's just such a special player. You're right last year, Buffalo held them to 40 yards, just 11 carats and where it was touching wars. Only, uh, 10 ft. Look like they had a good plan going, But all it takes is one time you leave that scene believe that crack With a little over two minutes and they're down by 10 all the things that you know they can't come back from behind with 10, and they haven't won a playoff game and boom. Lamar Jackson breaks off 48 yards for a touchdown and changes the whole dynamic of the game. So Uh, yeah, I think Buffalo's got a chance in your right last year was totally different because the offense with Josh Josh Allen told me different player and wasn't doing what he is doing now, so it's just gonna be a test for the for the ratings. Coach Brian Billick is June. It's popping one here on the SportsCenter mentioned Josh al and I gotta be honest. I didn't think it was gonna happen with the Wyoming background. I didn't know it was great in college and all the sudden, man. He just turns it around this year. What have you seen from him? That has allowed him to make this jump. All this just inefficiency, including me. What are you doing? You're right. You know, we keep matter really Junior colleges. Thank you really wondering while me under 60% completion percentage That's not usually does not add up And you usually don't get better that something like that in the NFL the first two years. He really didn't. He was dynamic. He ran round made some plays. It's a good place, and he still didn't have that efficiency that who would release whatever he did in the off season. However, we worked with whatever he did to streamline it. Hey, did a heck of a job because he's playing at the top of his game. He just comes. Any quarterback in the league right now may be the best quarterback in the league. Both run and passed with all understand, we've got Aaron Rodgers plans that unbelievable, mythical level and Pat Mahomes but in terms of the sheer ability Execute and run and execute the past. He's uh he's pretty good. Yeah, they Baltimore Buffalo game of the Saturday evening our time. 5 15 on NBC the earlier game on Saturday. 1 35 on Fox is gonna be here in Rodgers. And it's gonna be all Kale matchup because golf is gonna go Justus farce chaired being able to throw the ball. He was obviously hampered with the thumb, but they had no other choice because Welford, you know, had to leave the game and was seriously hurt. What did you notice about him just throwing the ball. And will that get better this week from from last week, Coach It should get a little better. You're right. We could clearly see he was not on. You just probably couldn't really grip the ball process and that touching that deal from the follow through it have to be a little better, but still, he's only what less than a week and a half for two weeks. In that surgery on the stuff..

That's right let's go get it and go off the mound with c sabathia retirement treating you see love to retire. Five years ago. Brought on what i was doing. Love life right now. Being him have great chemistry so Is fun to bounce stuff. You know sports stuff back and forth and coaching staff. We we watch tv. So it's really fun to in the back as you know sitting there talking and kinda hanging out and giving your opinion As far as the rest of my life doing quarantine retirement It's just got the four kids. I gotta a junior in high school freshman in high school a seventh grade and a fourth grader. So we're pretty busy man. My whole is a baseball player. So he's fine all across the country bunnies perfect games aren't events and different things and you know starting to visit colleges and stuff so that's exciting to be home in the be here for this part of his journey. It's been a blessing in my girls dance and my youngest. He just you know he loves sports but he's not he's not like super super competitive like my oldest like how we were living die wounds. Lots of teachers loves to be out there and socialize so refreshing kind to be with him and you know just just have the funnest or to so much distress of you know my oldest trying to get the college working out and different things like that. So it's been a lot of fun really been enjoying. My time is a retired baseball player. And as a dad so like. I said i should have did this. Four or five years ago. I know i've never thrown so much. Ep done so many dance parties. Learn how to do ponytails like just everything you're doing as a dad. That's so awesome to hear that. Because that's what it's all about. I mean that's why retire other than you know our bodies saying all right. That's enough time but your your son. I wish i could throw. Bp right now. My shoulders math feeling right now. So i'm still trying to basically to try to get back to throw these guys bp. I know what you're talking about. I remember throwing a first pitch out at a king county cougars game and me and my son both. You're both throw the first pitch. He threw a strike. I threw it like in the left. Hand batter's box. One hopped my arms gone in like a turtle into shell. Mike okay. i'm gonna need some rehab. I started going to therapist. I'm like i don't wanna throw again one day. Let's go and they worked it out so you got a couple years. It'll be just fine. Then you can join that over forty league and and have a lot of fun doing that but you're working out. We see it dude you in the gym. You've been getting after it dropped away. You've leaned out. You look like you could be kicking guys out of bars now if you need to be where. Where was the motivation. Well how did that take off. Why were you like. I gotta do this. You know what i mean. I think i mean obviously had heart Problems December of eighteen had the stanford in a bigger guy always thought of myself as like offense violent I needed the way to pitch to come down to mount. And i just. I just didn't feel right if i was pitching net. You know two hundred ninety five three hundred thousand. I knew i couldn't live a long life that way you nominee. I have four kids. And i want to be around for them and I knew this is always my plan. Once i'm done you know bitching one of the lean out You know try to get rid gives the muscle and and and look good on the beach. so yeah i. I've been working out harder than i ever have. And it's been enjoyable. I mean i've been working out with my son my wife and going to the gym couple of times a day so Yeah i mean changed my diet. No sewing no gluten and and You know it's really taken off for me. So hopefully i can keep this up and continue to lean out and be the best version of myself going into my forties. You get started getting calls from hollywood at six six. They're going to be like. Hey we need. We need a few extras here. Somebody's got to step in and you and you're just the right guy and they don't have many guys your size. Yeah just action movies. Then you're just gonna stick action movies. I'm out of the house. My dad's go with it. My mom's got while you back you talked about your wife. You have an amazing family. And she does a lot of amazing stuff with you and kind of i feel like when you see. It really leads a charge on the pitch foundation. Your guys is foundation. Does amazing work is so awesome to see what you guys do for the community. Talk to me about how that started the work that you guys are doing. And what you're doing for the community thank you. Yeah my wife and my mom and myself started pitching in two thousand and eight and it really started in our homes. Lael me and my wife went to high school together started in our hometown. Just wanna give back and do different things and you know we were giving money to different organizations in not seeing the result that we wanted so we decided to start our own foundation from there things of take it off. We do the back active as we do a big christmas program for kids. during christmas. during this pandemic we'd been a lot of stuff when freshdirect handing out food and different things for families That that i knew in the boys and girls club those kids. Those meals at the club. You know two or three times a day in the clasby enclosed in a pandemic. I want to do something to help those kids out. So yeah. It's been a blessing in my foundation. Kind of started from me. Meeting dave stewart as a kid. I got a chance to meet him. When i was nine years old. And it changed my life and not just always thought if i was ever in a position to help people were giving back or you know. Just gotta do what he did for me. And you know some of my life if i could do that for going to my big league career. It's all worth We're sitting down with future hall famer. Cc's tabatha and i say future hall of famer because you know you're going the hall of fame. There's no doubt about it. Yeah you will to two hundred fifty one wins over three thousand strikeouts just an incredible career. But you and i both know. We're shaped and remoulded through teammates and coaches. Who are the people that you leaned on throughout your career early on your career. That really helped make the biggest impressions on you. Oh wow so many Coming up in indians organization Felt like it was a blessing You know having mark shapiro. He was the farm director. When i got drafted and we just gotta formed a great relationship. He's like a father figure to me now. So tomato time call willis who are now. Who's very first pitching coach.

"For Spain and fits here on ESPN radio. Kevin I have really bad news for you. I just got word that I was just hired as your editor at ESPN dot com. And I'm commissioning a new article for you. Okay. We're ranking the candidates for these head coaching jobs who are you putting in the number one spot the most desirable candidate on the market who is plausible is who. You know, the interesting thing is that Adam gays the Miami head coach who just got fired it fits the profile of what so many teams are looking for in terms of being somebody who has a long history of working with quarterbacks and making them better. You could argue that even to that Ryan tannehill. And that the issue was Ryan tannehill was injuries as much as anything. I think he probably fits the profile of what more teams are looking for right now than anything. So in terms of the pursuit of him and the intensity of the pursuit of him. I think it's going to be very high. Personally, if it were up to me, I would I would suggest that all those teams expand their pool a little bit more than that nothing is Adam gays, but as I mentioned earlier special teams coaches, I know, that's that's not a popular choice or discussion point among slot of fans and won't be too many fans of a franchise it their team hires a special teams coach Dave top and in Kansas City or. Jerry Rosberg Baltimore that would be very thrilled. But we're all know how it worked for John Harbaugh. I think it was pretty good there. And I think that's really a until frill ground of of of candidates. If teams would expand and look at those guys. Well, Kevin if those are the best candidates. What is the best job right now? You know, there's there's a few you always look at at the Rosser, but most importantly the quarterback. And so in Cleveland, you have the, you know, arguably the rookie of the year quarterback Baker Mayfield who just an extraordinary rookie season and somebody that that looks that looks hungry and coach at the same time. So it's crazy. The sound. I think Cleveland is way up there. I think the jets will be up there too. It's a little bit less of a attractive job. I think even though Sam darnold there. I don't know that the talent is there as well. At least I would say Cleveland is crazy than sounds has more talented roster. Green Bay will be up there to a because just the history of it. You know, very lot of coaches who think that that head coach of the Green Bay Packers as the best job in football. And so that will carry a lower. There's certainly you would hope some good years left with Aaron riders a future hall. Famer. So that's that's important as well. So those are the three teams I think that jump out to me that people will be excited to interview for Kevin..

"future hall famer" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show

"Was the one who in two thousand late offs moved to Minnesota and had a great one year. Obviously his great years were or his best years were before two thousand four Philip rivers is in that class. He's never been to a Super Bowl you'll is been to two and other than that. That's why everybody thinks he's not a future hall Famer. Like what else is he done? Ben is playing great football right now. And ally is not even close to team sport. I understand. Who are the other two gotta have been in the conversation. You got even put them in there. Who else? Do you have? It's this go down the list. It's not a raider. It's not a Bronco. You got fill up with the chargers. It's not a chief. It's not a Jaguar. It's not a titan put Peyton Manning for the colts. You can't put Andrew luck in there. It's not a Texan. It's not a Bengal. It's not a Brown. You can't put flacco in from the ravens. It's not a jet. Not a Bill not a dolphin. It's not a cowboy all respect the Tony Romo. It's not an eagle due respect to Donovan McNabb. It's not a Redskin. You got away with the giants. It's not a bare. It's not a Viking unless you want to talk about farve Aaron Rodgers your Packer. It's not Stafford not Cam Newton. You wanna put Matt Ryan? Instead of Big, Ben. I can't see that. It's not a buck. Russell Wilson gets not a ram. You wanna talk about Russell shore. But more than big bent since two thousand four of his era. And it's not a nine hundred not a cardinal. I mean, look, I know we like crapping on Big Ben a lot. But. Of his era. I mean, if we're including including the middle if we're including the middle of the nineties now, we're talking about the end of Elway. You know, now you're opening things up here. No two thousand four on. Russell Wilson has been around for six years. I mean, you can't. I mean, you're talking about somebody who's done it if fourteen years. Yeah. NFL MVP since oh four Peyton Manning at the quarterback position. Peyton Manning Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers Cam Newton Matt Ryan. "Twitter? I'm checking out right now. Feeling good about him. He got one, right, Gotha. Snide CBS is Super Bowl season continues on Sunday with an exciting doubleheader. I you've got the game. We just talked about. Pat's titans, then you've got an NFC western showdown between the Seahawks and the division leading LA. Rams. The action kicks off with the NFL today presented by Jeep at twelve eastern nine Pacific. That's one of my topics. The Rams so I've got my rance. I've got four rats coming up on the NFL on CBS will be back in New York for that. You wanna make sure you check it out show is great so much fun to do twelve eastern nine Pacific on CBS. Good doubleheader day on Sunday. Bengal coming up at forty past. So let me share some thoughts on the rockets were ten games in ten games into the rockets season. We had a conversation a couple of topics top number one. The rockets are not off to the start than anybody expected their foreign six that is lost to a Russell Westbrook. Less thunder team by eighteen didn't have Russ, and they still beat them by eighteen the defense has been a mess. Their offense is not much better. Chris Paul looks like he got old fast. In fact, overnight. How bad is their offense last night? There were held the eighty eighty points. Mike the Antoni had two words describe his offense. Yuck. And anemic. Forget for a minute that a grown man just utter the word, yuck. You ever think you'd see a day where a Mike d offense would be referred to as anemic. Mike Antoni within a Nemec offense. I'm unsure when you think about his defense. You think about words like matador porous? But when it comes to the offense, I would never think anemic would come to mind, you never expect that offense to be anemic. Now attempt dialing it up. That's pretty shocking something nobody saw coming. Right. So they're not getting it done offensively. We knew they wouldn't be that good defensively. But offensively they're anemic and yuck. Topic? Number two. Carmelo Anthony off to the start though did everybody expected some decent night's but more often than not some really pad nights. And that continued last night in Oklahoma City. Now, let me preface this by saying taking a run at Carmelo is like taking a run in Nate Peterman these days, and that's a compliment to Nate Pete. And a plain fact about mellow. He's thirty four going on fifty four the future hall. Famer and one of the best ever. Do it is playing like a future unemployed bills quarterback? So I've tried to reserve judgment. I've tried to hold off on saying anything at all. Because it's just too easy. It would have been so easy to crack. Back on Melo for saying that he'd be open to coming off the bench when everybody knows that's the last thing he wants to do it would have been easy to point out that he's a colossal defensive liability. And then what he does have left offensively would never make up for the damage. He does on the defensive end. But now, we're at the point where it's still easy is just too hard to ignore especially when he makes his return to okay, see, everybody likes to talk about what a big deal. Those revenge games. Are you know, the game where guy goes back to the team that he used to play for and abuses them Rex them? Last night was one of those games for mellow going back to okay, see, I mean that had to be really emotional there had to be a ROY trying experience. I mean, so many memories. Barely more memories in. Okay. See then from his brief stint with the Atlanta Hawks. So I'm guessing it must have been the emotions that got the better of him. Because that was not a very good performance. Not great. In fact, not great at all legendarily bad one for eleven two points all for six from beyond the arc in twenty minutes. Not exactly Vinnie. The microwave Johnson. Not exactly heating up quickly off the bench. Maman is no hibachi. He's a freezer. He's Trevor Pryce a night where he had one made basket in eleven shots, man. That's bad night. A night we had one made basket. And even that made basket came on a goaltending. Call hope. Brutal was that on his one hoop on the one basket. He did make the ball did not actually go through the hoop. It's amazing. You can put that two point night right up there with Wiltz one hundred point game because that's something that will never happen ever again. But in his defense, at least he had five assists. That's good. If your shot's not going down, you better do something to help your team. You better be setting everybody else up await those five assists. That wasn't last night. That was on the entire season five assists for the season, five assists in ten games. A sweet half of assists per game. That's not going to help the ball hog rep is it and sure the haters are going to point out that Melo as more miss shots. Then he has made shots, right? Who doesn't sorry? The haters actually are going to point out that he's got more miss shots that he has made shots, assists, and blocks combined. That's not a good stat line. In other words, his biggest stat contributions are missing shots at one end and giving up buckets on the other end. That's not good as for last night mellow did have an explanation. Quote, I missed those looks some open joints some open shots. I missed as a team. We didn't shoot the ball. Well tonight extremely poor. I think that kind of got us to or got to us a little bit. Our energy our spirit was little down. Because of that quote. Agreed the spirit was a little bit down. So we're mellow shooting numbers. Again, ROY ten games in and it's not unusual to see vets start slowly mellow knows. It's a marathon and not a sprint. But there have been few sightings of that. Majestic beast known as Olympic mellow in almost no sign of defensive mellow. I'm not sure that ever existed. What if it did it certainly is not shown up in Houston? Carmelo Anthony is never going to be confused with Dennis Rodman is a lockdown defender. But in okay see day could hide him with multiple elite defenders on the court. But not with the rockets were they switch everything in every opponent goes right at mellow now. Mellows that perfect combination of too slow for quick guys. And too small for big guys, which means he's eight gigantic target on the court. But at least he's making up for it on the offensive end every single night. No, he's not. He was a goaltending. Call away from an over eleven shutout. I'm not gonna say mellow to Houston is a disaster because it is a long season. They been busted up and suspended, but they're four and six in that conference when you're already looking up the pelicans the Lakers, the jazz and the kings it gets late early. And when Melo is going one for eleven. Seven and only scoring on a goaltending. Call it gets really late really early. And when you're losing by eighteen to okay, see, and they don't have Russell Westbrook. It might already be too late. That's not the revenge game. He was looking for. One for eleven and the one shot was goaltending. Call and on the goaltending called a bald name go through the hoop. Jeremy and Scott tweets seems like yesterday that the rockets were so good. They were capable of shooting seven for forty four from deepening game, seven yours. Trevor Aretha, that's true. There were seven for forty four in game seven of the conference finals, and a reason when over nine from beyond the arc. He finished over twelve in that game. It does seem like yesterday. Hey, jim. Brady and the hood are definitely going to score on Butler. I scored with Danny yours. Ben after liquorice. So really idiotic Email Brett really idiotic breath from bug Ah-ha rash free. You got have better things to do than bring me down every single day. Brett, you may like this show. But the show doesn't like you, man. Stop emailing me. Stop tweeting me. Dear Jim, please. Let the record show. We were only scratching ourselves signed peewee Herman. George Michael J, Stewart, his college friends. Look, I'm I'm well aware of that story involving that Vegas broadcaster. And that he got picked up for following himself. I'm well aware of it just got better things to talk about. Much better things to do. And it's all about including running down my man, Ben Gulliver, which is what I'll do next. Talks more NBA. Florida state Notre Dame a seventeen and a half points bread. Never thought that I would see that. Notre Dame has very good. Look, the playoff try and get that story in for you. Also baseball see Bill James get on the wrong side of pretty much. Everybody a guy that was so admired. Saying the players had pretty much nothing to do with the Red Sox wanting at all. The players that you went deeper than that. I'll try and get that story out. So you too. First up though, here is a bottom. They are sports update for you. Chris lopresti anchors. This. Sports play with a rough Thursday night in Oakland with.

"Mcdonald's screen pass. Tasty rivalry in the NFC north the Packers and the lines and despite beating the Bill twenty two nothing last week Aaron Rodgers called his team's offense terrible. Some people have taken that shot. At Michael Jordan's playcalling talked a little bit about it. Earlier though, Terry, you know, you had to differences is this relationship on the what's well, I'd say it's really rocky. You don't talk about your coach publicly unless I use some problems. I was afraid to catch. No, I do not believe errands afraid of Mike McCarthy. I do think he's possibly jealous of all these quarterback in this league. Mainly if you look at breeze, and you look at my home in Kansas City, in the way, they're whiten it up drama in Packer land. We talked earlier this show as well about drama with the giants today. They're facing the Panthers in Carolina. Odell Beckham junior reportedly not happy with the big Blue's Dink and asthma attack. So Jimmy is he right? The giants to conservative. Yeah. With that offensive line. He came throw deep if he doesn't think. He's going to get done. I like that. Good. They just signed former Pro Bowl safety Eric Reed. And he's actually starting today. Michael forget, the anthem issue has collusion. Filing against the league. From a purely football standpoint. Is this a good move? Yeah. I don't think this guy wasn't on a team because the football skill the the former pro bowler, the absolute leader. I think Carolina got better than a secondary by signing. All right. Well, Carolina's trying to keep pace in the NFC south one and three of just looking to stay alive as they head to Pittsburgh attack. Mckinley is type second most sets Emily with five. He's one of the few survivors in Atlanta's banged up defense for the falcons problem simply that just letting out of quality players on that side of the ball. They could've used read. I I mean next man up is the right thing to say, but in reality this offense has carried this group. And so hopefully, they get Dion Jones and John O'Neill back. All right McKinley says he respects Ben Rothlisberger. But wasn't afraid to talk. Most back this week saying big bang quote hasn't seen me yet. Well, all of us are about to see the future hall. Famer Big Ben because the lovable Chris Myers landed a one on one interview with rothlisburger who might be facing his toughest task of the fifteen years. He's playing the NFL. He's trying to save the Steelers. Hello, chris. Hey, Kirk good to talk you lovable. Even my family doesn't use that term with with me. But I can tell you that Ben is not in love with his team's record after a month into the season. He did say that he has more control of this Steeler offense calling the plays that he's ever had over the decade and a half here in Pittsburgh effect as recently as Friday, he put in a new play a new formation with different personnel or series of new place that he hopes will help today on bell slight disconnect with Antonio Brown. But offense worried about this team. He's not showing. Pitch. Anybody right now? We describe the Steelers as a desperate team. Four games in early in the season. We need to have a sense of urgency, but desperate and after the most recent lost with Baltimore quote. You said I'm not playing well enough as putting a lot of blame on football games. It doesn't matter. I think the question is. What what's going on? Where's the connection the simple answers? I just haven't played. Well, what about Antonio Brown? What what his forgiveness. This is part is he's getting double still every single play. If I can get him on catchable ball where he can catch run and Margaret things will happen. Still has a sign his fourteen million dollar franchise. Standing. We need it. Now Levy on belt from the outside. We watch the the impact. Describe what it's been like not having early on. It was definitely there are a lot of questions not knowing what's going on. But once we once he wasn't here. We just had to move on. If Bill comes reports to the teams that you shopped with open arms. Yeah. We just don't know what it's going to be. You know, there's been a lot of reports and rumors can this team go to the playoffs without fell. Yeah. Absolutely. They were very good football team. I think he helps our chances. Later moment, we saw Gerald McCoy. Tackled you on national television. Talk about your guy. You're tough guy. You make plays. Do you get the same benefit as the as the smaller later this year? Actually, it was the first hour gone that he calls that's still been so much a part of your game. Right is hanging in there until the very last moment using your size and then leaning on your arms. That's kind of the fine line. We walk not wanting to route the blow it dead because so many big plays have happened kind of in that last minute mode over the years, the great defense of the Steelers that was kind of a winch bid for this franchise really in the last decade or so it's been more about your offense you comfortable with that role. Absolutely. I don't know that all the fans are still they still believe that defense. But you know, the league has kind of changed, right? Tinder put up thirty and forty points almost regularly now. So you have to keep up with the Joneses scores reports you can hard to say now what would have to happen for this Steelers team to contend for the Super Bowl this year. Just win one game. We started seasons bad before not the way you want to start. But really just take a one game at a time. Not look ahead. We can't look to the playoffs. We can't. We can't answer that question. How do you get to the playoffs is how do we wouldn't one game this week? Ben did say to turn it around. You can lean on the great history of the Steelers. But you can't rely on it as far as getting the ball Brown. Antonio put it best. When he phrased it. It's like why five you'll sometimes the connection is poor. Sometimes the connection is great. But you're always connected. Those to expect to have a big game today against the beat up falcons decent. So as we throw it back, we go from WI fi to a guy who still listens to music at high fine, Jerry Bradshaw. Take it away. I like that. No, not listen to shot. I didn't take it as a shot at all. What's on, Al? Oh, I said.

"The ball well at all game three and that didn't really matter kind of winter micro analyzing it i think those guys kinda like i get my shop back up and usually what happens is when clay stuff don't have their shot going they they basically be their normal cells the following them yeah you know i it this point i think there's emotional fatigue or an injury steve curve's gonna come back i think he's really smart i guess joe lake abs sun maybe maybe there could be some dysfunction in the front office if his son has too much power over the course of the next year bob myers feels threatened you know that's the thing feels like it's rolling for another year you know we never talk about steve kerr in this which all about the players but if you if you look at most dynasties popovich and riley you know phil jackson you know we love to give football coaches love we never give nba coaches love red are bach chuck daly you know these things the we don't talk about kerr but gadi smart i mean this the i think this is a harder team i thought they were bored out of their mind for big portions of the regular season you covered them i mean discourage get enough enough credit you think it's all relative i mean he has a lot of talent i think he's going to what phil jackson used to fall under aware you know the gut reaction as well it's really nice easy to coach a team when you have future hall famers and there's no debate about it you need to have talent to win the nba any professional sports but we're steve kerr goes into place he's really been able to kind of manage the stars you know to the stars credit there's not a lot of you know why vols or ego on the team i mean they know who they are and they have a good dose of healthy eric but there's not much of that you know fight pecking order oh tonight's my night to have my shots they don't really have that a lot of any adjustments or adversities they went through it all was either tactical xs and os which is kind of boring and then to.

"Stuff you gotta regatta tell the anecdote again about syracuse i thought that was so funny you know we've been tailing jim boeheim the future hall famer as oh you know he's got the match up zone and you know he's the most cerebral guy and his match up zone gives everybody fits and it is true but how he arrived to play the zone that you shared with the boys yesterday was particularly entertaining one informed gary inherit jerry missed it well what what tim figured out how not to work you know sort of made him smarter than the rest of us i used to give them all kinds of grief about playing zone you know sort of a purist y'all in man and we teach all this stuff and we work and he just used to laugh at me and of course they pretty much had their way with us with ads zone with their length but when we start talking about it a little bit and he said well he says one thing is i never i don't have to prepare he said you know you spend all this time working on every set that they run and how you're gonna handle aside pick and roll you gonna front poche you're going to double down all this different stuff i don't have to do any of that we're play in the zone and that's it so i don't care what they run we're playing zone a certain way and then they don't shoot around on game day so i'm thinking you know wait a minute who's the dummy here hey it's me you know i'm working all this stuff and he's sitting there and that jon with that lane then and it's really hard and you know you're going to see a lot more zone now you're just are because they're winning washington came in with the same group of guys that didn't win and they're playing that song and it's just hard to play for forty minutes.
