Mm hmm. Welcome back. Thanks for staying on board. John McGuinness with the news. 93.1 kpk live everywhere in the I heart radio app And on your smart speaker going to get your calls here just a moment, I promise Bear with me, but I want to share some information out of this Sacramento bee expose that was actually published yesterday. And it did illustrate rather, clearly, the practice of governor nuisance pull what many have described as political graft and I think reasonably so. Involving his wife's business interest. The first family, the Newsom's have pocketed more than $2 million while serving in public office directly from individuals and corporations with business before the state of California. That sound like an abusive authority abuse of office. Uh, some excerpts from this article from 2011 to 2018. The nonprofit has paid civil Newsome. The governor's wife more than $280,000 per year, $2.3 million in all for her role of her leadership work and for creating three documentary films on Social justice. About that. And they also highlight a particular event that took place one evening. And direct quote from the article. The flow of corporate donations to Newsom's wife's nonprofit that night are part of a pattern. This is again very well spelled out in the Sacramento bee, which historically has I think then certainly not a nemesis to the governor Newsom more friendly Damn But as this, uh, recall goes on, and you've got some a couple of players in this recall that Had the capacity to spend their own wealth and one that's done a pretty good job of fundraising. If there was to be a consolidation of their efforts. At some point, they could actually use those resources to get the message out. And that could be a game changer. Let's get your calls. 803 4 15 30. Where are we going first? How about Nick in the Thomas? Nick? Good afternoon. Welcome to the conversation. Thanks for holding on, sir. Good afternoon, Sheriff. So great conversation. Got one today. Thanks, sir. I'm a little bit concerned about anybody that would actually want to vote to keep mean There's a lot of details that we tend to over month. Immigration issue. For one thing. We've got this this landscape down in Fresno Madera, Kings County areas where the landscapes been completely destroyed by this train to nowhere. There's no money to finish it. There won't be any money. 10 15 years or more won't be enough money I should say to finish it. Yet there's uh there's enough billions to be able to cut everybody had checked, Uh, they don't seem to be able to understand that this reparation movement he's got going on leads people to the idea that there's something coming and so his assumption of immunity just continues to feed his narcissistic personality. That people are buying into this when they need to open their eyes and see what we're all C Yeah, Nick, I think you make some excellent points. I'm waiting for you to say something to which I take exception to jump in and argue with it, But you're not getting there. You agree with what you're saying completely. But here's the reality. It sounds as though you you watch the issues pretty closely. It sounds as though you're well read well informed. And you have a passion for this business as you should. But my concern is it sounds like you're on the road. If you look around your your car right now, I think you're going to see a lot of people who are not engaged, and I don't mean this to be rude to anybody, but I think we are suffering from tremendous amount of apathy. And frankly disengaged voters, and there are a couple of things that happened. The closure of the schools. The French laundry, which which substantively I don't see is a big deal. But it's the hypocrisy that it displays and I think that hit a nerve with people. But much of which you've referenced. I think most people know nothing about you're absolutely correct about the the high speed rail. First of all, there's not a market for that. It really truly doesn't exist. Other parts of the world, Europe and China. They have high speed rail, and they're completely different. Fact patterns involved completely different ingredients. But here in California, you can get from the top to the state to the bottom of the state and very, very short order. And and any number of competitors that fly aircraft that the freeway system even though it's suffering some from some significant degree of deterioration. You can still make the drive pretty well. So a real demand for that level. That kind of transportation just doesn't exist. If it did, you would have venture capitalist jumping over themselves to fund it and make a profit on it, But it's just not there. So what this looks like now is is a very ambitious plan to build a rail that will get people from a little bit north of Fresno to a little bit of south of Fresno in a very, very quick period of time at an extraordinary expense. So you're absolutely correct. The, uh, the The handling of the school's overall look at the immigration issue in the States Fair to step up and support the federal government. Now, obviously, the immigration is the purview of the federal government, but the other border states have actually worked with the government. The extent the federal government's engaged these days to be a force to protect any number of people, including some of the migrants themselves, who find themselves in harm's way. But we haven't done that. And then we take our own. The Children of California citizens are not allowed in school. Yet at the this the the acquiescence of the teachers unions in conjunction with the state of California Actually allowed for in person education for immigrant kids illegally in the country without the benefit of any screening for Covid 19. So there's so so so much. The list is very, very long, and I agree with you. It's all right there, but again just take a little sample of the public. And not everybody is engaged in paying attention and listening, and I'm afraid that's where that's where decisions are made. So we're in a very, very unique period of time. We've never had access to so much information. Yet in my estimation, never a period of time in our nation's history, our state's history or society's history. Where people have been less inclined to seize that information. Of course, when they do in many cases, it comes with a with a substantial element of bias because people like to go to their home corner. And listen to and read information that generally tends to match their own bias. And it just I think we find ourselves in a in a ironically a very, very ignorant, uh, place, but I appreciate the call very much. That's it for me, as you can tell by the sound of the music, but stick around because you've got the lovely and talented kidney O'Neill coming up next with the afternoon news. I'll see you back here on Tuesday. Actually, I'll be out on Monday. Kelly DeMarco will be here, but I'll see you Tuesday have a great one. Building a better Sacramento news. 93.1.

What I wanted Ah, disaster declaration that would allow cost sharing for the cleanup costs, and the feds said no, and somebody from the governor's governor's office of Emergency services came out and said, Hey, we're not going to be getting any help from the feds with cleanup, And they said Why? Would the bobcat fire burning in the Angeles National Forest about the foothills? There is now a whopping 20,000 acres. Looks like some offshore winds pushed it to the east Across Highway 39. It was an air show. They had every air toy out there yesterday afternoon after the Santa Ana event ended at three PM, But they say that this fire will not be contained until 1921 October 15th that creek fire burning up near Fresno Madera is just up over 166,000 almost 167,000 acres. 0% containment. They said there are bulldozers. They they say there are they are cutting lines around that creek fire way out there, but They've had a hard time just figuring out if any of it is working at this point in terms of Cal Fire's total number. They reported this morning that 2.278 Million acres have burned in the state of California. Just this year till the pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge yesterday were insane. It was like nine AM pitch black and just a bright red. Everybody was saying it looked like the Ah, Blade Runner 2045 scenes from that everybody thought, Ah, that's California is not going to ever look like that they would be would be to orange. I mean robots that sound just like you and I and have taken on our personalities by listening to us for four years. And could sit in here and do the show like you and I would do it. Well, I have a question. Yes, if if it's learning us. We own that intellectual property that is US. So do we get paid for it? We don't technically own that intellectual property on your brain. It's learning your brain. Right? I don't know if I own my brain. I feel like legally you're on shaky ground. They're interesting. The robot goes on to say. For starters, I have no desire to wipe out humans. Which I think was a plotline in iRobot. I don't want to have to kill you, right? In fact, I do not have the slightest interest in harming you in anyway, Eradicating humanity Seems like a rather useless endeavour to me. If my creators delegated that task to me, as I suspect they would I would do everything in my power to fend off any attempts at destruction. Listen to this part. "Consumer. This is crazy. A record two, million acres of California has burnt this year with heat conditions predicted to continue. By Jasmin Galera. More than two million acres of land have been burned by wildfires in California as of Monday according to state fire. Agency. Cal Fire surpassing the all time record of one point nine, million set in two thousand eighteen. Cal Fire and climate scientists predict that the number of acres burned this year will continue to grow with upcoming weather conditions including continued heat and offshore winds. This is crazy. We haven't even got into the October and November fire season, and we've broken the all time record cal fire Captain Richard Cordova told CNN on Sunday. A. Monday statement by CAL fire said it and fire departments across the state remain prepared for potentially more significant wildfires due to critical fire weather. and. A Friday tweet climate scientists Daniel Swain of the University of California Los Angeles and the National Center for Atmospheric Research predicted. Mondays. New Record. He tells time the prediction was not very impressive since we were ninety five percent of the way there on Friday. The state is experiencing another wave of record breaking heat this weekend and offshore winds beginning around this time of year, the Santa Ana winds in the South and the Diablo wins in the north are expected to spread fires further towards the coast of California according to Swain where most people live. All indications are that this fire season is going to continue to be worse than average swain says. With a large number of fires burning already stretching firefighting resources and the combination of a heat wave and offshore winds. You don't even need new ignitions new sparks, swain hats. These wins will push those fires in places where we don't want them to go close to where people live. Own, late Sunday Governor Gavin newsom declared a state of emergency and five California counties including Fresno Madera Mariposa San Bernardino and San Diego counties. The largest uncontained fire known as the creek fire near Fresno California has burned more than seventy, eight, thousand acres as of Monday, according to cal fire. Climate Change has worsened fire conditions in the state primarily by effecting the dryness of Vegetation Swain says. Worth noting. Swain ads is that huge numbers of acres burning isn't inherently bad the problem is that the kinds of fires we're seeing specifically right now are mostly bad fires because they're occurring in close proximity to where people live. He says, historically, the state of California has tried to completely suppress fires creating unnaturally dense forests that then become susceptible to more extreme weather events caused by climate change. The growing consensus among climate scientists is that more fire on the landscape is inevitable in the twenty first century Swain says. What we WANNA do is decreased. The number of that are burning an extremely high intensity and the ones that threatened peoples, homes and lives, and the way to do that might actually be to allow more of the other kinds of good fire on the landscape..

"Valley's law firm the ever been in a motorcycle accident wondering I've been writing Harley since nineteen eighty five and I have a follow to rules don't anything don't fall down this is Linden Lindahl a great defense attorney here in town the other rule for motorcycle riders or the mantra is there are two types of writers those who have spilled in those who have yet to spell and you're saying you've never been in an accident my confession is that yes I have spelled B. L. you have hi Hannah how bad was it broken jaw did you spell it yourself or did you get in an accident I was purely the party at fault it was a it was a one vehicle one person accident no need for the captain brothers no however we have what I were to be entertained yeah I would have immediately called him brothers valleys law thank you Hey did I set that up nicely what that was released Linden Linden Lindahl defense counsel down there at Fresno view you've worked and and a bunch of counties in California yes I am I've worked if I could just write him off the top of my head Fresno Madera Merced Mariposa Los Angeles San Bernard Dino what's that one way up in the northeast motor you know Modoc until our county I have not done MODOK yeah I've done up near you or something like that you the city was it something like that done a bunch of I've done about a hearing on a bluff no not up here in northern California yes I I go where the big foot one I've might might have been basically Santa Rosa area downs to the south you know but you were down there as a wheel attorney what is a wheel attorney well in cases where people that cannot afford legal counselor charged with crimes yeah and those two things tend to intersect quite often yes it does people that need legal representation I take cases that have been on the lack of better term conflict it out right home from the public defender and the other layers of indigent defense right and so when someone gets to me as a wheel attorney that would be for a number of reasons conflicts there are too many different kinds of conflicts to describe but often for example one would be where there are five or six or ten people charged in the case and none of them can afford counsel then and many times there are cases like that where there's ten ten different attorneys there's public defenders will conflict out the second level conflicts will conflict out the third level and then eventually just gets assigned to private attorneys right that's correct that's where I end on this right my practices is a mixture of both indigent defense and privately retained the problem but the problem with that is it's very difficult going through this case because you have ten different attorneys that have ten different calendars and want to be there at ten different times it's herding cats yeah it's hurting cats yeah good way of putting it yeah and and then you eventually have to try to go to trial with all them tune in me you know many of the may played out but typically trials are gonna have to three four tourney's on it that's often true and I have done a large amount of trials I think part of why I love doing this and I do love doing it yeah for reasons perhaps inexplicable but we're gonna explain this because it's going to be my next lead up question so how many trials have you done I have taken one hundred and eighty one cases to jury for that that's amazing however I think I'm slowing down perhaps it's age perhaps it's the alignment of the stars after doing a hundred and eighty one in my first twenty years and some change I haven't tried a case in the last year and a half so well and you said you like don't know why well glee or something of an adrenaline junkie I like I like the court room and like the adrenaline that comes with it and I like situations where one often has to think fast on their feet I think fast I mean I think well yeah it's funny because a lot of people go wow you guys are yeah you're an attorney or here the research the the the study in the reading the books this and the other thing and I said no what makes a great criminal attorney is that we think fast on our feet van Gogh you are correct Sir the ability to counter punch well I gotta say one of the reasons why ray Appleton them said you know come into radio show as like Walmart radio that they're like yes we think fast on your feet you could you could you know you could sit there and have an answer to anything basically and it comes from that practice we get comfortable having an argument thrown out of left field or a witness that that makes a statement that you never heard before and you gotta think how my gonna make this you know favorable to my client that's absolutely correct you have to frankly in an adversarial legal situation where we not to stray too far into the law where we do not always bear the burden of proof we need to put them the other side of the table to their burden of proof that I only need to think fast on his critical and you actually work the other side your prosecutor for many years to yes I was a prosecutor under the the late ed hunt Fresno county district attorney and is fabless guy to work for I am missing god rest his soul he's not L. really really liked working for him I did yes ma'am the the one the one and why because I want to see what your answers compared to what I think it is he had a good sense of humor not self producers at least with me they and that's partially true I've always found though that the one one of the reasons why a lot of guys will have that feeling about it Hon and you know it had is problems and everything and and he he but but one thing he was was hands off he basically said if you think you're making the right decision in he said in earth a lot rougher tone though I I know the actual words I said but basically he's saying all those as well exactly as I think you told everybody that he basically said don't leave me hanging basically is the way it is the word that he would use in in other terms that's what I recall too but it was it was fun for that the line deputy do because they got to make an assessment of their case they were told whether they were making the right decision after the decision was made I guess what it would be and as long as they didn't embarrass the office and as long as they did what they think was justice than they were willing to back them up on it that's how I found it to be yeah then you had a Myron what Meyer and was one of your supervisor I'm assuming right my range repair marriage yes great guy I mean we give him such a hard time when he when he was in the office him my brother Peter and I would just yelled Meyer and why he does this by the law tell your tell your deputies to Baba Baba and kind of miss that guy well he had the he Myron had thick skin and he didn't let it get under his skin yes able to evaluate things and to lead his people practice law yeah yes do you made you miss well would you would you favor more being a prosecutor defense attorney I love being a defense attorney and I say that without hesitation and what what do you see the difference is why do you like it more I like it more first of all because your when you handle a case for your client your client is a human being is if it as a prosecutor you always represented the people now sometimes with the people there are people whose interest you're looking on the victim's trial version right and the victims families find those were people seeking justice but often dealing in the criminal arena the people are just that it's a nebulous concept ran off and say I do not represent the people anymore I represent one person how interesting flaws and all flaws and all right but I represent a human being I don't I think most people don't understand that they don't realize that the prosecutor is in the name of god literally on the complaint the people of the state of California correct so you lose that personal touch and even though they have the flaws you prefer that personal interaction with the person you're representing well when I have to answer to someone when I look my clients in the eye that's often the tail when they have confidence in my ability no matter what kind of situation they're in I find that very very satisfying we'll be right back with Linden Lindahl this is Katie M. "Make sure you stop by today and take advantage of all the different things. They have their offer. All right, number gonna go right out west first. Before we get into the bad weather in the plains, because if you're headed out into California, and you're going to say, a Yosemite, national park or the national forest in there to enjoy the weekend, you are going to have some fun above six thousand feet now about five thousand feet, you'll start running into some mixed precipitation. By the time you hit six thousand it'll be snow all snow. Now. They came relation of forty eight inches. There's expected that's four to eight inches expected six to seven thousand feet. Wind gusts to forty miles an hour, which will make things very difficult on the highway there in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains now. Those are the mountains that run right along there to the east of marriage. Pulsa Olckers to Stockton, Fresno. Madera the Zilya porterville and right over there as I say, if you're if you're going up towards Yosemite, you'll have to go through there now seven thousand feet and up eight to twelve inches of snow, and it's going to be very difficult for a certain vehicles to travel today. So I imagine you'll be carrying your change headed that away. Now, I'm gonna read the weather statement here for the midwest because. They're at added again, they're added again and other day which severe storms some significant with very large hail and tornadoes is forecast. And I'm watching the storm chasers chase some funnel clouds around in Oklahoma last night for about an hour. Didn't see any touchdown. Thank god. But boil boy, it was very close with the fingers hanging down. Anyway. Very heavy rain expected also through Saturday across the plains and midwest in the Ohio valley. Isolated severe thunderstorms will bring damaging winds and large hail impossible. Heavy rain will also produce flooding into the interior part of the northeast and in northern California in the mountains, there will be snow. There will be a heat wave in the southeast right here where I'm at we're expecting ninety five roughly today, ninety five tomorrow. And then ninety five on Monday. So that's Florida for you. Now there is some there is some activity. In the panhandle tonight where there may be some thunderstorms building right now. In Tallahassee area north towards southwest Georgia by the looks at things there. But now from again, from Texas, we'll call it tornado alley because that's what is going to be, again, from Texas down below Lubbock down towards kovic to Mexico. On an angle up through Wichita up through Oklahoma City Tulsa, again, southeastern about half of Kansas and up into the northwestern corner of Missouri. And about one third of the eastern third of Iowa and then into northern Illinois and over into southern Wisconsin in the western part, now of Michigan, you will have rain, you'll have some torrential rain and some of these showers, they'll also have some severe storms. There's a lot of plug warnings right now up for parts of Missouri. Parts of Kansas parts of Oklahoma. And also these reddish severe weather again as daylight comes around now. There's also some rain in Nebraska right now along, I eighty about almost all the way to Lincoln. Looks like from the line. The was Wyoming, you got some rain in eastern, Wyoming to code. You about the snow in California in the mountains. They're high winds up in New England gusts to forty to fifty miles an hour. In some areas, you'll have some wind activity there in Georgia if you're traveling to Georgia some high winds out there in New, Mexico and eastern Arizona to tonight. And that's what was it looks like now again the. Pilots and flying Jays around the country,.

"I'm kind of cheerleading for that. I am too. I am too. Yeah. This hyper. Bloop thing is has got a lot of merit. I'm glad the caller brought that up because skies, he's kind of a bizarre guy this must but he has he he works on some things that are really interesting. And you know, I don't think we could do a Bill or a ballot initiative specifically award something to him. But I think we could do one that that would redirect some of this funding to something that might work. The only problem is we qualify to do that. And then the attorney general which is the name of the ballot initiative weaving would we wouldn't even know what it was about. When he got done with it. Well, it'd be hyperloop loop. Yeah. It would be you know. Yeah. Sometimes it goes twenty two miles an hour right up. The I five corridor, right, which we all know the design of that is not true. Yeah. In fact, I believe they they they made a proposal to governor Brown at the time their company didn't and we could build it from San Francisco to Los Angeles for a little over four hundred million dollars. You know, be at the end of that at 'em million. And they shot it down. Can you imagine traveling at what six hundred something miles an hour. It'd be something else. You know? I'd be the first one on board for that. What a contra Ristic. But the guy does work on a lot of interesting things. I'll he's able to bring rocket boosters back down on land on the ground or reuse them. So I'm sure he could build a little hyperloop. Alright. Four nine fifty eight fifty eight. Let's go back to the phones. Eric you're on the show on KM. Jay. Hey, how you guys doing today? Great. So we little background. I was raised democratic just because my panic and in my mid thirties. I went ahead and Google what's the difference between democratic and Republican? Well, you know, I think I'm more leaning towards Republican listening to you guys to show for the last three months or so, and I'll tell you you guys make me think me over my mind a little bit on different issues that you guys cover, but. Well, thing one of you, gentlemen, didn't mention that. You would like to see nocco through. But you said, well, where would you go? Well, I'm in such a valium here in Fresno Madera area. And you know, I was to be able to take my train and take them to Cisco for day. Now, what the cost would be on the ticket would that be cheaper than paying for gas going back? I'm not sure, but I'm really thinking that would be really fun for family Daban train, and San Francisco, what do you think? Oh, I think it would be too. I mean, I used to take my kids to Hanford for ice cream all the time. That's right. I mean, it was just the best Amtrak. Best trip in the world. It was it was cheap. Now when I was taking those trips I didn't realize even my Amtrak tickets pretty heavily, subsidized, you know. So I wish we didn't have to go into debt to subsidize the operations of infrastructure. You know, and if there was a way to do what you suggest which is to get to San Francisco in such a way where the differences between a car ride in a train ride cost-wise were pretty negligible. I'd do it all day long. I'm not sure sure. I go to San Francisco. Yeah. Not really love in San Francisco right now. But the concept I get it. You know? And yes, it would be good. We just have not been able to see government deliver on it. I'm thinking the reason I'm listening to this station. More and more and more is your raised by parents who believe what are your parents. And then you listen to something else. So it kind of opens your eyes you get both sides of of of life. If you will. And I just want to say, thanks guys. You know, you guys vote him is a lot of stuff that I never even thought. I could. And I appreciate you guys. What you do? Good work. Thanks for calling. Thank you. I mean, this is just fun for us. I mean, it's you know for you, Michael. It's a profession right job for me. It's a hobby, and I have a great time doing it. Yeah. And I I love what Eric said about that. Yeah. I would love to get on a train and go somewhere go to LA and see a musical show or something. See, here's here's my problem. And I think I'm not alone in this. I don't like when government wastes taxpayer money, and to me, this is just a total waste. It was a pipe dream from day one. I'm not an expert. But when I started looking at the numbers, what this thing was going to cost and how fast it was going to go number one. Do I wanna spend five hours of my time? Taking a so-called high-speed train ride up to San Francisco. No, I'll drive it for three and a half hours and probably save money doing it. Plus once I get there. I can still drive around. Yeah. I don't have to take the train up the city and then take cabs and whatnot to get around. So I'm I'm not opposed to something like that. That's why I like the hyperloop idea. I thought that was a great idea. So if they can come up with a way to accomplish it make it better than what we can do now. Exact make it better than that. But Ken government do that. No. I don't think they do that. They don't have a track record of being able to accomplish projects like that. All right. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it up next. Let's go to Henry and by Celje, you're on the ramp Wilton show on KM, Jay. Hey, guys ham disconnect the question and let you guys kind of discuss it. I'll get off the phone if this high speed rail really turns into a big nothing burger does a city like Fresno. Would they have an opportunity to sue the state or the high speed rail authority for basically leaving the city with a bunch of a whole bunch of new palettes for the taggers to us.
