"Retailer made dot com. They listed in the UK sure, but then if you look at the share price now, it's about 75% lower since the initial public offerings. And so if you're new chief executive and if you want to go into the pipeline, an IPO you think right, I'm going to lose 75% in two years because of the way the London market structured, should I go elsewhere? Well, you spoke to Mark Austin from fast fails about this. How do the rules need to change? Will the royals change? So first of all, as far as corporate lawyers go, he was really fun. So it was a good conversation and he certainly didn't mince his words. He made it very clear that he was worried. He says, look, London is actually in a danger of becoming a mere regional stock market down the line unless it's significantly raises its game. So what does that mean? More nimble, new rules. Now, to be really geeky, it's things like, for example, attracting more spacs, which also have gotten a pretty bad rep. So it's not like you attract more spikes, and then everything is rosy. It's about, I guess, being nimble enough with the rules so that you attract new talent and new IPOs without really damaging London as a reputation. And this is a sentiment that really is repeated across the City of London that look, if we want to keep London as a future financial hub, then we need to do things, for example, share listing or how you access capital. I'm not talking about crowdfunding when something like that without really hurting the spirit of what London was. How engaged are government officials and regulators then on this topic? Are they likely to listen to Mark Austin and actually impose those changes to attract and to whoo these kind of listings? Yeah, I think they will be, and I think they have in the past. Again, if you look at refugees as soon as we had heard, he's of course one of the main contenders to be prime minister that he had lobbied deliveroo, specifically to try and list here, so I think the people that we're talking about in policies are engaged, but rules take time to change, rules, again, can not hurt you as a credibility. And so if you're a smaller exchange, like Amsterdam, that it's going to be a lot easier and there's the wow factor that was maybe pre Brexit of listening in London and Mark Austin was saying that's faded a little bit. That was Bloomberg's editor at large francine la Croix speaking to myself and Tom Mackenzie. About the conversation that she had with Mark Austin from freshfields about listings in London. You can hear more about that subject on the in the city podcast out every week. It's on iHeartRadio, Apple podcasts, wherever you usually listen, always great to hear from francine David Merritt usually co hosting the program with her as well. "Combining to drag on activity. Speaking to us here on Bloomberg daybreak, Europe, economist Diane Coyle says she expects further contractions in GDP. The economy is clearly slowing down. And that's not really surprising when you think about the news about what's happening to energy bills over the next year or so, a food price has gone up for those people on variable rate mortgages, mortgages starting to go up. And so the discretionary spending that people can do is shrinking and that's going to get worse over the autumn. That was Bennett Professor of public policy at Cambridge University, Diane Coyle speaking to us a little earlier, with the BOE focused on slowing inflation, it will be down to the next prime minister to provide the economy with the support it needs to get through the winter. Bloomberg economics has warned that if fiscal support comes up short, a recession will be unavoidable in future quarters. Meanwhile, conservative leadership candidate Liz truss is ruling out a fresh windfall tax on energy companies if she becomes prime minister, rival Rishi sunak is vang to find another 10 billion pounds to help households pay for soaring power bills. Speaking to Bloomberg this week, lord adair Turner chair of the energy transitions commission said the situation could lead to Europe moving away from fossil fuels more rapidly. We are facing a crisis at the moment it's been produced by the cash off of Russian gas, but it tells us yet again just how volatile and uncertain fossil fuel prices are. I think the effect of this crisis will be that Europe will be further down the path to emissions reductions than it would otherwise be. That's the return of chair of the energy transitions commission speaking there. The debate around the roles of renewable comes as one UK forecasters we've just been hearing projected energy bills will top 5000 pounds next year. That's analysis from the energy consultant consultancy auxiliary, which says that surging natural gas prices will push up costs next year. Meanwhile, the fed president of San Francisco is Mary Daly has told Bloomberg she's open to a 75 basis point hike at the fed's meeting in September. However, daily says she's taking a wait and see approach to the size of future hikes. The scale 50 75 doesn't just depend on a data point, even an important one like the CPI. I'd like to say that we're data dependent. We're not data point dependent. San Francisco fed president Mary Daly speaking to Bloomberg there. The Central Bank increased rates by 75 basis points in both June and July in its battle against inflation, U.S. CPI increased by 8.5% year on year in July, slightly lower than the median forecasts. The FBI search of Donald Trump's Florida home reports she included a hunt for classified documents on nuclear weapons. The Washington Post says it's not clear if any such material was recovered, the revelations come as U.S. attorney general Merrick Garland confirmed that he's now asked for the search warrant to be unsealed and that he has signed off on it. I personally approve the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter. Second, the department does not take such a decision lightly. That is U.S. attorney general Merrick Garland speaking there within the past few hours, Donald Trump has responded, saying that he is encouraging the immediate release of documents related to the FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago home. And in top corporate news, apple is expecting to sustain iPhone sales this year, despite worsening projections for the smartphone market, more from Bloomberg's Charlie pellet. Apple is asking suppliers to build at least as many of its next generation iPhones this year as in 2021 counting on an affluent clientele and dwindling competition to weather a global electronics downturn. Sources tell Bloomberg the tech giant is telling its assemblers to make 90 million of its newest devices on par with last year despite deteriorating projections for the smartphone market. Now, London stock market is facing the quietest period for listings since the financial crisis has startups flocked to the deeper pockets found in New York and Europe. The lack of London listings is the topic of this week's in the city podcast from Bloomberg, host Francis LaCroix spoke to Mark Austin, a partner at law firm freshfields and the latest person charged with sprucing up the UK's listing rules. Here's what he had to say. The danger is I think the ten 1520 years time will wake up and realize that we've slept walking to becoming a relatively regional parochial stock exchange and financial center, which we've got every chance to avoid that happening, but we need to have very bold and brave conversations right now. And honest conversations about what we need to do to try to make sure that it doesn't happen. That's Mark Austin from the law firm fresh fields, we caught up a little earlier with francine. Here's what she had to say about this story. If you look at the numbers, first of all, it's one of the quietest periods. I think in a couple of years, now partly this is because of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which means that a lot of people, a lot of chief executives that we're going to list. We're like, wait, hold on, let's see what the environment looks like, but partly it's also because the rules haven't really been put up to date. And what I heard in this conversation with Mark Austin is that he says, you know, when you're pitching a client, they say, give me a spreadsheet with the top four places where you can live. And if you look at that, the UK has been very quiet. A lot of them haven't been doing so well if you look at deliveroo, there was also worries, of course, about the UK chip designer arm will go to London market with a partial listing, and that's up in the air and so it just makes people a lot nervous of where London goes from here. Well, you talked about arm, which is, of course, a huge tech success story for the UK and we're still waiting to see what happens with that potential listing. What about other tech companies was still a hub of activity around tech startups here in London. You have the capital markets. You have that entrepreneurial spirit and of course the access to universities and things. A tech company is better place that they're taking advantage of listening to. So not so much and it's important to remember that actually Boris Johnson made this as one of his priorities to attract talent. So it's not like the government hasn't been trying to attract that. We've had a couple of listings we had, for example, food delivery platform deliveroo. I love deliveroo. Ecommerce group THD furniture

dig into why he makes that that comment Also we are assessing the omicron threat as the markets are day by day two It does look as if the news is darkening South Africa's just said that it will offer a vaccine booster from early January but you've got rising cases in South Africa COVID hospitalizations rising in the U.S. too Also we'll tell you about boys Johnson's troubles the government really does seem to be in difficulty for the first time in many many months and it's largely because of these allegations of Christmas parties Why is that such a deal breaker will tell you Let's go to the markets then the MSCI all country world index is down a tenth of 1% Asia Pacific index also dropping 8 tenths of 1% The market in the green really that I see in Asia at the moment is the Shenzhen come up by a tenth of 1% The hang seng down by 1% Futures for Europe anyway down half of 1% U.S. features just about managed to stay in the green up a tenth of 1% Although European stocks have actually gained 3.1% are so far in terms of the opinion stock 600 but is there a sort of change in mood Are we going to get another very volatile Fridays We have done the last two weeks U.S. fields at once .518 Europeans begin trading negative 34 basis points for Germany as up by a basis point and Bitcoin at least stands fairly steady after the 6% drop overnight Let's go to our top stories then and I mentioned the political issues here in the UK So the latest pressure facing Boris Johnson MPs are due to vote on these new coronavirus restrictions next Tuesday Now the FT says that at least 30 conservative MPs and the times says 50 are threatening to reject the measures as a big number the package of measures includes work from home guidance mandatory vaccine passports for entry to crowded events Labor says that it will support the new restrictions but the rebellion by backbench Tories is becoming corrosive for the government and the latest YouGov poll from the times gives the party the Conservative Party the worst poll rating in 11 months two thirds of voters questioning Boris Johnson's integrity As for what it means for the City of London well it could become a bit of a ghost town reducing the number of employees working in the office from Monday and one of the largest UK law firms freshfield bookcase deringer is telling lawyers and staff to stay at home as well Markets are pressure on the fed to act Beneath doubt Jude ice Bloomberg daybreak Europe So that on CPI in top corporate news Elon Musk has continued selling Tesla shares for a 5th week in a row Coming closer to his pledge to offload 10% of his holding the billionaire founders sold another 934,000 shares fought close to a $1 billion to pay for taxes on the exercise of 2.2 million options That's according to a regulatory filing submitted on Thursday So that on Elon Musk Right I promise you one of our top interviews this morning while Bank of America CEO Brian moynahan has been speaking exclusively with bubba's David Weston at the bank's New York headquarters Now miner has said that the U.S. economy is at full employment and supply chain problems are beginning to normalize slowly have a listen to all that he said We have inflation That's nice That's actually not the debate The average inflation for the last several quarters has been higher than target The questions were do people think it's going to go next And I think that's what's on people's minds So if you look at it what you're seeing is the wage growth and the expectation wage growth and these talented people and what they're going to earn and what they didn't expect their next year That's for the inflation is really there And it's known that we have it Now the question is how do you bring it back in And so if you think about it kind of going to 5 and a half to 6% this year 4% next year low fours next year and 2% in 23 The goal was to glide into that trend growth rate without causing a recession And that's the hard work of the transition monetary policy It has to go on now So as I say you have a particular viewpoint in the economy Particularly because you have a lot of small and medium sized businesses The middle market you deal with the cars the country Tell us about the effect of the supply chain on those companies and therefore perhaps on inflation Well as a bank the effects that we didn't like is they aren't cost in terms of the economic recovery and also on China and the evergreen that shares fell this morning significantly kaisers shares trade in Hong Kong have been suspended after both officially defaulted on dollar debt So let's look at the markets there before we get into some of the issues facing the UK especially Boris Johnson the all country world index is now down a tenth of 1% The topics dropping 8 tenths of 1% This morning nikkei two to 5 also down by 1% And European futures are significantly softer even though yesterday was quite flat Day U.S. stocks 50 futures down half of 1% S&P 500 even features manage a very small gain but the S&P 500 fell 7 tenths of 1% yesterday so that three day rebound in U.S. stocks did end on Thursday And I wonder whether this is going to be another very volatile Fridays We've seen in the last couple of weeks CBOE vol has jumped back towards 22 We do get the CPI number out at one 30 p.m. London time that will be crucial for markets ahead of the fed next week The yuan fixings also have been rather interesting The PBOC setting the week is reference rate But since 2018 according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg the offshore actually trading at 6 36 now is stronger two tenths of 1% but this of course is after the yuan hit the strongest level against the U.S. dollar since May 2018 So interesting another PBOC intervention Bitcoin a bit steadier this morning after it dropped a 6% overnight And we are $70 64 for WTI crude futures Okay those are the markets Let's go to a few of our top stories now And we start with the latest pressure facing Boris Johnson with MPs due to vote on the new coronavirus restrictions next Tuesday the FT says that at least 30 conservative MPs the time says 50 are threatening to reject the elsewhere will put more pressure on the fed to act The needle should ice Bloomberg daybreak Europe Okay a few of our top stories then and what we're expecting today But the heat is not dying down on Boris Johnson as anger swirls around government Christmas parties new COVID restrictions and now a fine over how building works on his home were funded The paymaster general is investigating now three events that took place last year during the pandemic restrictions and not even the birth of the Johnson's second baby yesterday could act as a distraction Well one of the people calling for Boris Johnson's resignation is anti MacDonald who is the labor MP for Middlesbrough You and pots and I spoke to him on Bloomberg Westminster yesterday We asked him whether he was happy that the Metropolitan Police decided not to investigate these allegations of parties No not at all I mean Allegra Stratton was asked a question about a party that we've told didn't exist It didn't happen but if spending did go ahead it was in accordance with the rules It can't be both And it's not just one party We're now discovering that there were a number of what the paymaster general of the dispatch box is just euphemistically caused gatherings So when we go to a party to a christening or a birthday party in Christmas party it isn't a party It's a gathering I mean this is just vaccination If people just turn to Dodge the column and Dodge the issue The back and forth was rough yesterday Didn't do enough Keir Starmer when it came to if that is your view to actually holding the prime minister account Well I think you did I think exposed him for the dishonest individual that he is And people will say well should have gone further last year's resignation Well I've just done that in the last hour I've asked the promises to do the right thing and resign Because as more information emerges and it's emerged since yesterday because of the number of parties that have taken place at number 10 Downing Street We know it's a place of business but really it's in these knowledge And for people to come to the House of Commons there I was told that it was okay It was investigation to view carried out And the pair must have generally done the self same thing issues hanging behind an inquiry going to be had by the head of the civil service We need to know which civil servants were attending these events or these gatherings because there shouldn't be anywhere near this And that's where the map If the police forces of our country are going to go around a resting people and our constituencies for breaking the rules they can done well investigate these issues too Everybody is equal under book And that applies even to the privileged bullingdon boys and the rest of the people inside the Westminster They have got to be subject to the same laws of our land And it can not be that the police is simply saying we're not in interest To complain and hurt to investigate because they simply can't sidestep this one if we're going to have faith in our institutions They've got to get on with that as look at our fear or favor And this is one of those such occasions Do you think it's realistic to call for the prime minister's resignation though He says he doesn't know about these parties I mean presumably gatherings happen in a large organization without the guy at the top being informed of it It was a number 10 Downing Street Many events not just the one And for him to satisfy himself I was informed that everything was okay I'm afraid simply won't wash He should be carrying out his own investigation Coming fully armed with the information rather than hiding behind some minion who tells him everything was all I permanent So don't you worry Everything's okay You've just got to be until that's what you've been told Not good enough So that was Andy McDonald's labor MP for middles were pretty strong on the government We'll have much more British politics on bib Westminster today So it was supposedly crime week according to the government this week Hardening rhetoric a new Law & Order bill that we have in the UK we're going to bring you a special program on prisons and sentencing with the Howard leagues Andrew Nielsen cape Fraser from women in prison and Peter Clarke senior fellow at the policy exchange catch it live 12 noon today Right let's get over Bloomberg's.

"The car is a prius right. it's not a ferrari. They don't have great personnel. It's gonna be a little boring at times The receiver they got forty. The forty niners born. I think name eat. He helps them like he's got juice But it it still a prius but he's gonna drive that prius pedal to the metal and use all electricity and possibly has. I think he's playing really well. Feels navy's offense is gone spread. He's gonna love at the spread and if you go back to the kansas city years that's kind of what he was known for was adding spread elements to the west coast and that bland is really cool. they've gone away from the rest west coast principles away from some of the traditional values beneficial football up and football which you still need a run run action pocket movement screen game traditional screen game A lot of these things that are staples of offense. You're not seeing that. You're seeing more these spread elements and i think that hurts. A person like fields. Because feels you need again. Let's go back to the herbert conversation. You need to maximize his talent. We you max meis talents. Let the play go longer Let let him use up. What is design. Rollouts zayn boots Creative ways of getting free plays Free offense ablaze free completions. I'm not seeing a lot of that now again. I'm not studying the bears either. So i might be eighty percent right here. I'm definitely not one hundred percent right. But what i've seen is it looks different than the offense. He was supposedly in charge of in kansas city. And i think that's going to hurt. A fields fields typically holds the ball too long. It was the not coming out. We'll get back to. Let's go back to pre draft stuff which nobody ever likes to do. Let's actually go back to tree. Pre-draft concerns redraft concerns for fields. Again loved the kid loved him But as recharge when using my office before the draft talking. I said you all the ball to launch. You're gonna have to process quick it's not intellectual being. It's a waiting for something better to happen thing like the biggest mistake. I made one of my regrets and a lot of us. Average of quarterbacks make is that we don't take the cheese. We don't take the thing right now. That's right in front of us free. I you got cheddar to the right guy the take it you got those routes air though because the arguments with nagy that those routes at i have a hard time believing in. Nfl coach doesn't have these guys explained to me one. Two one two threes guaranteed one guaranteed guarantees. Always there. unless you're an asshole. It's always there. But they might be tight against the difference in the and that was the numbers. Tell you these are incredibly tight throws throughout game freshfields and those are good numbers. And i'm glad those numbers are out there because there's a difference between a between gooda like somebody just using the cheese now and she's a quarterback wave saying the free stuff easy stuff sometimes as wide open right. It's zone coverage is the back across route. There's no way within four or five dollars throwing the ball be up. And there's times words shallow. Cross the defenders coming down there cutting it from the safety position and you can see that happening in like. Oh my gosh. I got it through right here. Otherwise it's going to be a complete. That's still a freebie and the nfl. That's why we talk about high-school college open nfl. But there's just different that there's different definitions open. It's and i think fields is still looking for the college open. Throw and that. Because he's looking for the college open throw thinks every throws hard because they're all nfl throws and that's going to take time. I couldn't i couldn't agree with you more only on like when i say i've used this exercise before when i blinked test of thinking of different offenses. I can see immediately. What i think of when i ride you blink. Test ohio state. I'd see that seem yeah host route. It's not it's not the far. It's that seem the slot guy. It's not maybe it's not even seem so it's a slot receiver to the right side running a post over the middle to the left and they find a way to get you one on one to save comes down on the other routes and that throw is wide open to the side and all your throwing pop up that way in. It's awesome because all those receivers are terrific and when when stroud is rolling like that. There's that throw again that day offense. Where finding they get you they get you with that so many times so really interesting thing you bring up. It's part of this conversation. I won't take you long. i would also again. A scout is understand. How good a college offense is a. Gm had coach duds when. I'm evaluating these college quarterbacks. I actually knocked them a little bit if i highly respect their play caller ryan days. Best play callers and all football. He he's in craze a he's a genius with how he gets guys open so you start looking it fields throwing a wide open guys. That's why the clemson game was so impressive. Because it was the first time i had seen just in making these big boy throws were. They weren't always ytl like he. Accidents stuck mirror actually pretty good against alabama except for a handful of plays because it was contested plays and he really had to throw. Nfl type throws in that game But i i sit there my notes you know me. I studied for the pre-draft grade. These guys in our mind else like good throw nice towel wide open i. That's not going to happen all the time. That kind of stop plus more goes to brian day. Not just feels so now. Go from fields. zach wilson. Let's go back to redraft everybody. That narrative became what generational talent. Aaron rodgers two point. Oh this kid's incredible let show going to his left to making some throws right. Which by the way my seventeen year old high school quarterback did the day after just to prove the narrative. Stupid row wrong. He flipped his hips. He was not platform. Sam darnold does ten times harder playing a game in the nfl but that narrative got started. You couldn't stop it. And here's what i'm seeing ourselves. I'm seeing uber. Talented obscene platform stuff. I'm seeing the wall arm town. I'm seeing him dropped down angles. And i'm seeing wide open receivers that he doesn't see right in front of him and i'm seeing a great play caller at byu run action. Passing game trick plays misdirection. I'm seeing them. Dial up all plays where there are wide open people. And he's jack in the ball waiting for something better to happen. His he loves being a flashy sisli playmaker quarterback and he won't just do the boring stuff while and i'm saying it and i'm getting killed because the scouts scouts are said he's reading a perfect. We talked to the coaches. He's dialed it like it's interesting because i'm watching these ten concepts there over and over. I know these concepts like the back. Man backfired teaching better than most people out. There and i know who the number one is. The number two is. I know what the progression is. I know what is feeder. supposed to be doing. And he's not doing it. And that's exactly what you're saying the jets. You're seeing his achilles heel pop up early. Which is he waits for. Something bigger and better to happen. He works everything down. Said working it up. I love the guy. I think the kids can be good if they have these conversations with him in the building and say listen..

He's got that kind of dark twisted sense of humor to him but he's not super serious like the one we saw in three which is very similar to the character in the communists also he was you know the bigger buffer look and stuff and it just felt right and i remember having fun in the movie and it was an interesting story. Wasn't there like a big battle in a space shuttle at the end or something. I kind of space platform. Yeah i mean it was crazy. I remember really liking it Then i'd love to see it again. I liked it. Tom did the voice of both venom and himself. Of course which is something. I didn't know until i did some research more today. I didn't know that either. I thought that they were it was fun. And that's actually a fun way to play the character because he is actually kind of arguing with themselves. So that would. That's kind of cool. I enjoyed it. I remember walking out of the theater remembering that the critics panned pandit pretty badly and thinking. It was a lot better than yes same here but there are some not so nice parts about this movie at least not so funny. We dealt with medical experimentation. Now this is a main theme..

"What was the most impressive win or performance of week too quickly before we get into some of these guys because the phone lines are blowing up last night's game between mahomes and lamar jackson. Lamar jackson finally gets the best of mahomes. After four tries he gets a dub what was your biggest takeaway from last night just the way. Lamar play beating the cassie cheese late in the fourth quarter. Obviously the drive. Is i like to call it and just just holly play. You know everybody's talking about they win in their short handed or came into the game shorthanded and you know for the most part. Kansas city was at full strength and they still came out on. The w i walked away thinking. How long is this type of play by. Lamar jackson sustainable right considering all the pieces that they're missing what fifteen players and the i. R. marcus peters secondary a lot of issues. You got the tavis. Murray gal out of guys. They're just of signed onto the team. I give them a ton of credit. But how long is that type of play by lamar. Jackson sustainable is legit question to ask yourself if you're ravens fan. Well i feel like we've been asking that question. It seems like it's been sustainable right like year after year for for the raven. I don't have no problem with his style of play right anytime. You can account for three hundred fifty total yards of offense. I would like to take two interceptions back but the you that is what it is but you account for the yardage plus three touchdowns to air one on the ground if you if i if i gave those same numbers as passing statistics people with jump for joy. But when you start putting it together run gang pass game. That's what baltimore wants to do. They should still be jumping for joy. Because that is dynamic when you can have a playmaker being able to deliver the football where a jump. Passer not to be able to do that. Did run the ball like running back wide receivers last combo if you don't want that if you don't like that you like ice cream i'm not hating on it. I like watching the mark jackson play. I mean. I do know last night watching chris jones and no one christians. I know he got moved to the outside. They were picking on him left in right. They were abusing that. But my only question is there's a difference between latavius murray or jacob dobbins so can those guys sustain that type of play and if they can't sustain that type of play then you need lamar to do even more. That's my only concern. He was doing the most last night but the ravens still a one point. Narrow victory still victory over the kansas city chiefs. Speaking of a narrow victory the cowboys had one of those yesterday over the chargers. So we told you about a road team that won. That felt like it was a home game. The cowboys survived at the chargers. La but key. Why did it feel like that. Game was played in texas and not la because the support system for the chargers. It's not an la. They should still be in san diego and when you think about it and you probably don't know your shape but i'm bringing up to speed on it in terms of pro football. The raiders of the number one team in los angeles in terms of pro football and then. The dallas cowboys. A sly right in there too. So it's a lot of dallas travels will regardless right but it's on the west coast the dallas cowboys got an unlock with the raiders. Then the rams then the chargers but us is ahead of them as well. So it's like that's why you see that. Yeah that is surprising to me. I i knew cowboys fan traveled while. Obviously they're called america's team. For a reason i feel like they're scattered all over the us. But i had no idea that they were behind even their hometown team or have i should say their hometown team. Look lot of issues for the cowboys. Okay there are but at the end of the day. They figured out a way to win. It was a fifty six yard field goal by greg's or line to win it and so. Here's mike mccarthy on what happened and the clock management that was a little questionable at the end of the game. Clock just to the end was was different. I've never had a clock off the board on me like that. So you know the second down. You know we're we're trying to chip away and just get shorter shorter phil goal and so we were. We were at an attempt to a third play kicking on fourth was the timeframe. We're seventeen seconds. I think so. We're right on the threshold. We get into these two minute drills freshfields one minute thirty seconds. Seventeen seconds so we're right at the threshold of our operation know. One of our players came off. That shouldn't come off. And just communication air so then we're just gonna run it down but the the clock. I was watching one off the board and then the clock kellen had at these at a camera camera got so the communication was great from top. And you know obviously you wanna you wanna call that time off between three three and four second. What is good as long as they had some sort of communication. They didn't get the necessarily you know you got two different clocks in. But they were able to communicate to get in a position to kick a field goal. It wasn't a complete disaster. But it's the dallas cowboys. Is mike mccarthy. So that's what's going to happen. We're going to decide. Dissect clock management at the end of a game when clearly. He just gave us the reasoning behind. Why they would have such a difficult situation. Then i feel like two teams yesterday. Just really shot themselves in the foot with penalties talking about seattle meet so many penalties and you talk about the chargers to i mean it toll penalties for ninety nine yards. Even touch touchdown by justin herber was a holding penalty. Things like that. Allow teams like dallas to win these games. I give greg's orland a lot of credit and missed field goals week one left a lot of points on the board for them to lose that game that people felt like they should have won her to make fifty six yard field. The closer greg. Delay came through one of the things that the cowboys needed to do shea. Going into this game figure out their run game. They got about two hundred plus yards in the run game. Maybe it wasn't all sikio elliott's almost one hundred plus from parlor but when you combine that together you win a lot of games if you rush for two over two hundred yards in a game. Can i just say this and you obviously played in the league. I did not your professional athlete. I was not but tony. Pollard looked like the better back yesterday. As opposed to ezekiel elliott. Like he was more explosive like he. Looks like the premier back. Not ezekiel elliott. In this game. I think it's what they're as a course of the season goes on. You'll see a somewhat of two headed monster backfield. You saw it in week. One against the tampa. Bay buccaneers him in polar. You saw it in week. Two against the chargers you'll see it continue to evolve in then when it when it gets down to it. Compla- all time zeke..

They're just sign onto the team. "We were six of us in our black BTU uniforms and work boats and We're walking from Battery Park to ground zero, and, uh, the floodlights around and the smoke was coming up from the debris pile. And, uh, one of the first things that really Kids was the fact that they were you know, here, days and days and days after the fact. They were still retrieving and remains and Recently been there a short time and there was a short whistle burst and things just stopped. And we observed, uh, team in the rubble actually taking some remains part again, Infrastructure covering it with flag. And bringing the remains out and putting it into an ambulance and After the medical examiner's office. And that was the first like slap in the face. Hey, this is the real thing here. So what were your duties? Was it a bucket at a time and just pick through basically what we did. Connie After that first night of I called shock therapy of seeing seeing all that destruction at ground zero. Bob. We were sent over to Staten Island. And that's where we were to stay. And do our work. And we were briefed the next day about what we would be doing. We didn't know as I said earlier. If we were going to be doing security work at in Manhattan or if we were actually going to be And working it at the pre field. And then they kind of trained us and noticed that day you people are going to be actually looking through the debris field. And, uh, how that worked as they were loading. All of everything from ground zero was put on dump trucks. And barged over to Staten Island. And from there, it was again loaded in trucks taken up to Staten Island. In their landfill called Fresh Kills. And, um, it would take the dump trucks would empty everything out. Two front end loaders would come in Pick things up, and then they would start scattering all the debris. And publicize of a football field. And then there would be maybe 30 or 40 of us in what we call Tyvek gear, which is biohazard suit with the helmet and goggles and a breather and gloves and all that. And they would play 30 or 40 of us and one side of the debris field. We would start walking through the field of debris. With either a shovel. Or rake and we would start looking for anything that looked like it had to be saved, whether it would be remains. Uh, personal effects aircraft parts. Anything that looked like this was going to have to be saved. So that was that was that was pretty much what we did for the kind that we were there and If we did recover remains they had to be, uh, you know, bagged and Out of photographed and Written on the on the on the envelope that they were put in where they were found, and There was, uh there were different tents set up Understand Island at Freshfields. With different agencies that were working there. Of the FAA. I was National Transportation Safety Board. The pathology department from the medical examiner's office. There were several agencies there. Um, so we would take what we've found to the appropriate tent and log it in, and that's how things ended up. All in one place. And you were there for 12 days. Well, actually less than that counted our travel time, But, yeah, we were there at four week. Plus and it was it was, uh, it was exhausting because we started at seven in the morning. And we'd have a break for lunch. And they had people there who prepared food for everybody was there. And then we'd have a briefing at the end of the day and then the briefing the next day and up. It was grueling work, and it was very tiresome. And it was very emotional because you didn't know what you were going to come across yet. How can you tell us about some of that? Pardon? Can you tell us about some of that what you came across. And yeah, uh, reactions and because I was a funeral director and had had worked with remains before. I probably had a little advantage over some of the other people that were there doing to search Is basically they were off. You know, firemen and police officers from different agencies. Um, but I as they walked through one side of the field to the other looking through the remains. There was everything there from sender blacks, uh, office furniture to telephones to wiring harnesses to everything. Wow. They were using rakes and shovels. Standing and walking through. I was probably my think back now. I think probably I was the only guy on my hands and knees. I felt a little odd. But at the time, I thought if anybody had a chance to find a small remains, it would be myself because my work in the funeral business I was able to retrieve quite a few small remains. The days that I were there. I'm sure the family was extremely happy. Satisfied? Very satisfying. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure the family was really happy about that, too, That you took the time to do that and find Find what they were hoping you would find. Yeah, The problem problem is with There was so much destruction with the airplanes when they hit the towers. Um, there were very few hole remains recovered in that next few hours after the towers actually collapse. Mhm. Very few full remains, as we call them were recovered. Um everything else was partial remains. And After everything was taken to fresh skills to the planned film. Um.

"I think you It's absolutely imperative that they do that because I think it gives them a better chance to win this year, and we need to figure out what this team is going forward and who the pieces are that you can kind of build around. And if you can Thompson and or Justin Steel or legit starters in this league what we've seen from them in the gold pen work. Can they stretch out and do that over the course of 67 innings and in today's game, depending on rule changes? Maybe you don't need 67 innings. I think the three of us would prefer that. I think that I know for sure. Fred Freshfields. I'm I'm there too. Yeah. And I do, too. We all grew up watching pictures dominate for 6789 innings, and that's that's more entertaining, but I get it. Whatever works. Whatever wins you games. If that's steel and Keegan Thompson can go 45, and that's how it works. And you, you know, mix and match and figure things out. OK, fine if that's how the game is being played. But let's figure out what they are. Let's figure out if they can start and I think the Cubs are heading in that direction. Okay? This is a bigger picture question. Um, when I first got here And did talking baseball and you're on this side of the glass and you're producing and you started talking Baseball analytics and you try to explain them to me. Did you realize that baseball analytics and all the Ivy League stuff in the field and everything else would actually take the game to where it is now? Because it's not necessarily It progressed, but not necessarily away. That's good for the game. No, I didn't. I mean, I think you know I don't love the way the game is right now it's hard to watch. I don't know how you can watch a bunch of walked in strikeouts and then occasionally a home run the way this offense work. I know this often doesn't work. It's not even working the way it's supposed to. But It's in theory, a bunch of walks, strikeouts and home runs and know about many balls in place. That's not entertaining. It's really hard to watch. I don't know how anyone can argue otherwise. It's not a fun brand of baseball. You know, I can. I can kind of get the whole idea of openers and using a lot of relievers. Fine that almost acceptable, but it's like I said, I prefer you know guys like Max Scherzer that can go 789. But no, I didn't expect it to go this far. I didn't expect these would be the consequences, but that's part of it right. You don't always know what the consequences are and and they like efficiency and all these different buzzwords that front opposite views. It's really turned me off, but I don't I still believe in analytics. I still believe there are numbers that could tell us a lot. There are underlying metrics that they hate. This guy may be better than what you're seeing results wise. I think that matters and I think that can help us. Analyze the game and break things down, But I also don't I think maybe the idea that there needs to be some rule changes to kind of limit the way they utilize these metrics and and kind of force you to value different types of players. I think that's the key, and I think he has talked about it. But we need to change the way front offices think and perhaps the only way to do that is with some real changes. Yeah, So how did we appreciate it as always keep reading all your stuff. I love the article the other day, And that's one of the reasons Tyler and I want to get John. Thanks a lot. Of course. Thanks for having me. Thank you. Sanjay Sharma. I think I said it right there. I'm trying. Just never did. We think we'd be sitting here talking about spin rate, no, and what it's done to baseball and what it will do once you you know, we see a decrease in spin rate. And now you know, this is everyone's been consumed with this for a month Spin rate launch angle exit below all this kind of stuff, and when a guy hits home run, and I don't know if I mentioned when you were with Mark Sander a couple weeks ago. Somebody hit two home runs. And instead of saying how far the balls went, it said he hit him at 11 12.31 13.2 eggs as like, Come on, I don't you know, it doesn't matter to me. Guys can hit the ball really hard and still isn't out and it I don't know the whole the whole game and I agree and solves the guy that watches baseball. "Mason vera paine. Explicit is a deejay and producer with a long career in the music business. He has been releasing albums and singles for years and collaborated with many of the world's artist here now discussing his latest single in longevity in the music industry. Thanks for joining me explicit. They thanks for having me on. So what inspired you to become a dj jeff. I love music. I mean from a very young age i remember. My parents always playing multiple genres. No rock pop reggae just top forties and. I just started bonding him as a teenager. I just got villanova music. And i started teaching our clubs and it just took off from there and it's something i never looked back on. I just kept the past now. I know you've dj does youngest thirteen. Were you allowed in the clubs. How did that work out. So here's what happened so back in the day when i was thirteen We started throwing parties for teenagers in high school and dot became at euston station. Where we're gonna thousand people for every party. I we threw in the club and from that. It landed me nightspot at the same club. When i was thirteen so from there i just started growing. I just wasn't allowed to drink. That's amazing how. how late was your set dependence. I have multiple set through the night so in the beginning i started early and then it spun onto eleven pm. Twelve one two. And then i close out four as well who. Wow wow. that's amazing. that's really cool life for a thirteen year old nikolai. I know it was right. And i was into all the gears. You know everything back then because everything was analog to carry big crates of records got to take them then on nine thousands along with you and now everything's in a digital space. Wow that must be pretty trippy right. Now you're right going from carrying you know milk crates of gear to just like. Hey i got my thumbnail flash drive with me. How does that feel like. Was that a weird transition. No i love the transition to be honest with you and the reason being is because even with toronto you could go back to records if you wanted to use turntables whatever you want to go with instead of saying crates and carrying. Cd's everything's in a flash drive or your computer in our dry if you need to very accessible. I think it was a smart move into where we're at now. Now you're just a dj. You're also producer. When did you transition into that. If i started playing around with different beats on different records and it's sort of grew from there where Sony music had a remix competition back. Then i don't think it exists anymore and That drew me onto that. Because what i was doing is putting beats on different songs and i started uploading on sony music re website and started taking off from there and that helped me but myself apart in the club because no one would have what i was playing and everyone always wanted so with your producing style is a similar to your dj style. It is so i'm very first top. I'm very open format. Where i go from john genre if i need to but and that takes a lot in my style because i love dance. I love music general. I love all different genres. And i try to combine them. But i try to stick to my room out as well and so the core is dance. But i try to go left and right a little bit memorable tracks that you produced memorable tracks that i produced There's a couple of tracks produced that did that. We're not find off onto their unreleased but remember track that i've produced. There's one that did really well for a reggae artists and it didn't top aide on i two hundred in two thousand fifteen. Wow that's pretty amazing now. When you're producing for another artist how do you find out what best suits them. I think they're styled. I do research. I listened to where they're at. I listen to their vocal. See what type of tempo and key works. Best for them. And from that i started constructing something and i go back. My my process is very different. A lot of times start something. And then i'll let it sit for a day or two and then go back to a freshfields with a new set of ears basically to Get me to feel where. I'm out. And then i go in that direction to see if it works for them. And after that i'll get them to record their vocals Get their acapella. And then i will post productive as well and make it work now. I heard you also play the piano. Did you ever integrate that with the your songs or even your performances. I do. I do. I definitely do. So that's part of it with the mini keyboard is easier for me to integrate thousand and keys in there to get to where whereafter get you Definitely something i love. I started out playing the drums when i was a kid. But i transitioned more into piano because on the production side of things. Wow drums piano. Dj at thirteen. And you've done it all so far. Is there anything that you haven't done yet. I mean. I love to play some of the festivals when it opened back up. That's something i haven't done it. I've played a lot of clubs and smaller festivals. Were one of the things. I'm looking forward to his pain at a big ultrafast or any of the other big festivals around the world. So tell me about your latest song. Different go different. It with amelia. Who's the vocalist on that song. And you know about being positive to a tough situation and it's for anyone who has gone through ups and downs and she sent me back to the oakland a couple of days with the different options. And then i tweaked it. I edited the vocals and turn it into a fierce fun Energetic single and and that's what it turned out. And i think it's going to be a smash hit honestly. I'm going to really push this single from looking back on the move up my whole on live like a man. I am falling through.

I'm Charlie Pellet. That is a Bloomberg business Flash. Thank you so much. Charlie Pellet. This is balance of power on Bloomberg Radio, and I'm David Weston. Biden administration will have the opportunity to review and perhaps change the trump approach to antitrust enforcement, and it's already taken a small step in that direction, perhaps by suspending early termination of merger reviews. Welcome now. Yon Ribbon in check. He is Anna. Trust counsel at Freshfields. Mr. Ribbon. A check earlier served as attorney advisor to FTC Commissioner Joshua Right. So welcome. It's great to have you with us. First of all, give us an overview about what this is. This is hard, Scott Rodino clearance, right? That's right, David. As you know, Under the current law, certain transactions have to be notified to the Department of Justice into the Federal Trade Commission so that the those agencies can have time to review. Many of those transactions have have implicated no competitive issues, and they could be cleared early under the early termination program, so traditionally how what percentage of those notified get early termination. It's a good question. So there's about 2000 transactions that are notified each year under Hart, Scott Rodino, and over half close to 1200 get early termination a bit more requested. But about 1200 each year were AH, obtaining so vast majority the initial period under the statues of 30 days. Oh, under the Under the current law you have the agencies have 30 days to review a transaction at the end of that period, they can issue a request for additional information that extends that in investigation by by many more months. If they at the end of the initial 30 days decide there's nothing to see. Here. They concluded their investigation and let that let the deal closed. So early termination is actually they don't even need 30 days. They could say even sooner than that. It's OK, go ahead. That's right. I mean, for for so many transactions where there are no competitive overlaps, it zah company buying a nascent that's unrelated to his current operation. Or you can think about it as a financial investors who are kind of expanding their portfolio. There's just no competitive issue even kind of evident on the paper so the agencies can terminate the trans Terminate the waiting period as early as 10 Days, 15 days. Sometimes it was the practical effect of suspending this early termination and you know it, Freshfields. You're advising clients presumably who are going through hard, Scott Rodino. Right? Well, I mean, as you know, Time is money often, And while the direct effect of the of this move is not going to be huge, it will impact precise of those transaction that the agencies don't care about. This is not going to impact the huge transactions that have competitive issues. It's been impact the small transactions or the transactions that have no competitive sex where potentially buyers are, um, in a hurry to close the transaction because of financing issues or where the target is distressed and actually needs that capital infusion so waiting that extra two weeks can actually have a pretty big impact on them. Do we know why they suspended the early termination? Did they say No, I mean, this is a bit of a puzzle. It came as a surprise to most of us in the antitrust bar. You know, it came out of nowhere, and, um, you know, it's it's quite feasible to kind of take stock and evaluate whether or not your rules and laws are working. But there was no indication here that something wasn't working. You know if my competitive deals were being cleared, kind of systematically under this program, then you know what one could expect that they'd want to reevaluate and pause. It pause the current system. There was no indication that that was the case. And moreover, there's no indication of how long this suspension would last or or even, you know, under what circumstances the program would be restarted. So I think that was a part. That was a bit of Ah, mystery to everyone because you could easily evaluate this program in parallel while continuing to administer it. Yeah, I think I read that This has been done before right. There's been a temporary suspension. Under some extreme circumstances. So, for example, when the government shuts down and employees are furloughed, I think the term of the program's been suspended here also is suspended for two weeks. Right at the start of the pandemic, because, uh, agency employees were transitioning to tell a work and there had to be a new electronic submission process created. Those were kind of the extreme circumstances. But under Republican Republican and Democratic administrations for rare long time this program's been administered. Both threw out of periods of that coma, economic prosperity, where there'd been a high number of filings. During a crisis. You know the period right after September 11th. This program continued, though. You know, it's kind of regularly been running for a long time now, so we don't have new leadership of the FCC..

"Have any involvement so the question given all that is about being a chair you've been an interim ceo a couple of times as well. What is it the people see in you. That makes them pick up the phone other than being pulled nolan's mate. What is it that they need. And what is it they project onto you. that looks like the answer to their. their problems. Change interesting thing about the sports industry or sports businesses that some. They're incredibly dynamic to this. There is a constant need to evaluate way you are is a sport and also in the context of everything that's going on around you particularly says the experience of racing in particular was this so that was a job which was to come in. We create a governing body so the racing role in two thousand six was the first chief executive you governing body bringing together regulatory body in the commercial covenants organization in host racing second-biggest spectator sports massive industry. That had really lost. Its way lost. Its confidence and gone through a difficult change process and what they wanted to someone to to help your change process in the sport. And that's what we did then. And i think at change processes similarly to for instance the the road in athletics that was as interim cfo which turned within days to becoming wigan which become chairman after having appointed up you chief exotic joanna accounts who oversee arrives in march. Last year is much draft again. It was a we need someone to stabilize the business in turn it round and get ready for big change and i think that's that's what i pretty much carried through in in or throws type hat whether they've been in. Exotic nonexempt cheryl consultant. It's understanding event. You want to bring sports are vast joint ventures between the whole lot of different access to create to create this food and then work out. How how you want to pull together. Not just for safer participation seattle. Stay for it for a commercial proposition. Understanding you market. You'll procast property. Where are you in terms of racing Where how can we maximize value as betting product. What's that was a as a as a destination event as a as a big event business and it's to try to pull as joint venture partners together and create the best approach. And that's i think the that's that's the approach to the rose have nots right and some unit far people seem to want want to do it grows. What's the internal response when you go in as an interim ceo because obviously by definition as temporary nature to it feels a bit like being a supply teachers. Go in and you have to step down your authority and cowards here. There's no about well. I suppose the two. I done it done it when i've stayed at the organizations over the fa which is one kind of approach to it and then the athletics. You can phonetics role. When i took on that was that was possibly going to be a month or two. Possibly six seven months i if depending on when we could recreate achieved. Exact never was contemplated that i would become chair which did actually happen so i don't think i would be any different. Whatever kind of nature of rollo. Same you and you know very much dad whether whether you full-time or whatever capacity you that to do the job. And i think whether it's being consultant or jared chief executive interim chief executive you'll bring that same kind of approach to doing it to pull people together fully organization together because often often find that these are moments of difficulty crisis. War mess People she wants to to move on and it's really just the process of helping those people involved to get through the difficulties and then get onto what they really want to do. Which is crazy success. Binding way to measure it okay. Let's go back to the fa. Then you're a lawyer by training. Was that the plan where you was the idea that you're going to be sort of sports lawyers at how he envisaged yourself and your your life as a sports lawyer in the in the sort of classical sense. Now i don't think then it even existed a thing So i started working to city feminine. London coup freshfields and that businesses they had been retained by fa to assist them through hillsboro. So that was an. I ended up as a trainee an article clark. In the department there was a row pocket and he. He didn't awful lot of work on the detailer reporter inquiry and he had continued to work and it just as these things happen. A few files were thrown on my desk. I think the first ones were Relating to aldershot town going through an insolvency and actually your club talking them oxford one of any big cases. And the reason i think ultimately i ended up having having this career Was that was a big disciplinary case. If you remember when when span is found to a preached submit regular payment rules think in the eighty s and early nineties. And they will find. That wasn't that was disciplinary process. And they were thrown out of the fa cup with the irving scholar regime. Yes yes and but there was the transition so by the time the proceedings took place it was in new ownership of alan sugar the the club was deducted twelve point. Stretch the fa cup enough. Think find six hundred thousand pounds and then it was a pay hold and then went to an arbitration and it ended up being a fine of one and a half million pounds. And that was my first introduction to spoiled and the law and june june the case we had we have been helping the faa but also identifying big issues that they had their rules and that constitution. And i think they pretty much set to to freshfields if we've got these big problems. Help assaulted out so succumbed to the faa to to rewrite the constitution rewrite the rules and goal that then went back to private practice and ninety nine hundred ninety six call. Would you like to join the faa is. Its first in the house lawyer. Have to say yes ready. So i am. I realized it was the first of may nineteen ninety-six iran. I was them in. It was weeks away. My sister decide to get married on the day of the england. Scotland game so i couldn't. I couldn't go but there were those moments and still one of the things still estoril. Saint helen game share and sheringham so f. a. ninety-six who would have been in that office. I'm thinking jolt on hill. Is someone that springs to mind.
