Literal Jock Sniffer - Season 3, Episode 4 - burst 1
"Question. How did he do? Okay. So here's the thing about Joe Brown. This is why I think you like him so much. Oh, it's a really great quarterback that just plays hockey team. So he's like your deck Prescott your a bitch. I thought you were like the light bulb in my head went off last night when I was watching it. I was like, well, he's a good little quarterback like Dak Prescott. He just plays for no wonder Jasmine likes them so much. By the way, I have you know you Optimus Prime Don the word shity so it cut out on you said shity team. That's all right. I show you going to say that we were going to like look we could be an item now. I'm just disappointed. Oh, I'm sorry. Now he's to you guys wouldn't match very well. He's back to blonde hair doughy eyed, you know, he still has his dreams and happiness. I was just that his way too innocent for you. You know, you just strip him of all of it off. I would fare. I tend to do this with all men though. Let's be real I tend to slowly take away their hopes dreams, you know their desk for Life their happiness any kind of happiness life. It's it's what I do to all the men that are in my life. Okay, so so that's your analysis which fuck off so that's no that's my analysis regards to jobber. Okay, my analysis in regards to the Browns. All right. Here's the thing about the Browns obj less. Always he had headlines Amy. Okay. This team has a boss ass offense page. There is no reason why they shouldn't be scoring touchdowns all the fucking time. I mean think about the players that they have Nick Chubb Fremont who both went off last night Jarvis Landry. I mean you couldn't get you can get that is a fantasy leagues dream right here, right? Yep. There is no reason why this team shouldn't be amazing because you know what their defense is really cool. Good to this team should be really competitive and making the playoffs and they're not understand now Grandma, who knows what's going to happen tell you what happened last night watching this game Baker Mayfield just he changed into a different person. Like when he like a human in a good way in a good way when he came off the field. He didn't go and sit down on the bench. He stood on the sidelines and watched his defense playing and then he I mean he rallied those guys. He was not going down to Joe burrow. I mean, you could totally he's like, there's no fucking way. This guy's going to show me up and there's no way I'm losing to the fucking bangles and you know what he totally carried his team. He really truly did stepped up it was offensive. Now if they can do that every single weekend this team is really like it has all the weapons that it takes to be a fantastic team which made me. Made me Ponder the fact that there's some teams that you just expect to lose and then there's some teams that you expect to win like the team's you expect to when you expect the steel real attacks right now. You expect the Cal you expect to win. You don't expect the Lions or the Bangles or the Browns. I mean the low-hanging fruit, you know, you don't expect those teams to win. So when they have when they have rosters long, the Browns have their own turning into a team that you they should be winning with what they have. So it sounds to me that the Browns are basically like if you're looking at it from a fantasy league point, it's the guy in league who basically cheese his way to get the best team because everybody else is internet either sucked or they were on auto draft or they forgot there was a draft right? That's the guy in the if you're equating it to a fantasy team roster birth. Okay. Number one. I liked it. You know I prematurely said shut up about the Cowboys cuz I thought you were going to say that you expect them to lose and I like that you're saying that you expect them to win because that's what you do you absolutely suck. Oh you that's what we do problem. That's where we are a we are an elite Lord team. Anyway, that's what you're going with I am. Well, I don't know the baker Mayfield is still a shitstain to me so good for him rallying his team. He's still a shitstain. I do love his Progressive commercials their home like the latest one. Yes. They are the latest one where he's like. Oh, it's getting ready to rain. Help me cover the furniture. And two guys like you mean the stance he's really good in those commercials. If you could only be as good a quarter as he is in those commercials. We would be set the dog pound would be set. Well, we are you a dog pound or now. I mean, I you know, I have a soft spot for the Browns just cuz they always lose. And ever since that movie came out draft day with Kevin Costner yet. Oh, I'm out. I'm done with you. done with you Amy. Your brown spot is showing. I know I know you know, I just I'm weird that way I don't understand it. Either it is I don't either try to figure you out every day and I just you know, I do too and since I'm like, oh I get myself today and then sometimes I'm like now he's nope don't understand myself today, but that's okay. That's most of us as well. Amy. So rest assured you're not in Company by yourself. I think it is twenty-twenty it is. Okay. Well that's sad because now Joe burrow Hollow be his name Falls 200 and two. Yeah, it does and but you know what this guy he's he's a good quarterback. He is is there he should be in his helmet I think time to get mr. Guys. Sometimes he tries to carry his offense which isn't great because then he gets pummeled by pencil like he got pummeled last night several times. Well, you sure. Why does LSU brain sure what he's trying to win? And I totally get it. But at the same time he needs careful because you know, oh, he's a starting quarterback in the NFL. Well getting them know and you just see a lot of what he was doing at LSU that worked and I think you know like every rookie has this learning curve right where you come out transition from college to the big leagues and it's like, oh, okay, it's funny cuz I was like really different style of football right? I said to Bruce last night. I'm like, surprised that they just threw this guy in the deep end. I mean they just started. Oh totally, I mean, they didn't granted he dangles. What else do they have? I'm. That's the problem. They don't have anything else but you know like places in my where to get backing up Fitzpatrick that makes sense. It makes sense for him to kind of, you know way into the NFL same thing with Dwayne Haskins, you know, he he was back up for a while until he kind of learned his name. Yeah, now Joe girl, man. They just threw him in the deep and they're like here you go, bro, you go bu. Yeah. Well, you know what gotta he is trying I mean, he's playing his ass off out there. No he is but he is and that's why I'm like super team Joe burrow like we gotta do this man. Like I'm telling you. It's the stogie. We'll do it get this guy that mean that you're a Bengals fan know how fucking no. No, I like. Oh bji in a Browns fan. I like Joe burrow Ina Bengals fan, you know, I will always bleed silver and blue Amy. That's the only color I would leave home. Anyway, let's move on to the Chiefs. Okay, love us and Pat Mahomes you love some Andy Reid do that cheaper mofo back, right? So Andy Reid's big old windshield mask that he had on. When was it last week? I can't remember. Yeah. We're only in week to segregated windshield wipers. Yeah, so people were like what the hell and so like it was fogging up. You couldn't see shit, but this may be a thing. This may be a thing coming to a coach near you because off on the first Sunday of the NFL season when this happened several coaches were seen either one not wearing masks or to not wearing them properly because the mask police were out and the league is not going to stand for that. It's currently vice president of football operations. Troy Vincent issued a memo this week saying protocol requires all individuals with bench area access including coaches and members of the club medical staff to wear face coverings at all times failure to adhere this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and or clubs. However, Amy, there is no word on what those accountability measures will be so that to me that phrase is what kind of sticks out to me. What does that mean? do you do find them? Probably I mean you can look dead. Here's the thing. They're coaching on the sidelines of talking into Mike's they have to be able bird they have to be able understood. It's really hard for all of the to happen on your face plus all these guys are around each other all the time. They're all you know, I practiced together around the field. They're hitting each other all in each other's faces, you know, I mean and how many people have tested positive since the start of season one? Yeah. They did a very good 2700 players so very good job with with that right off because like you said, they've been implementing measures. They've been following the rules, you know, they've been testing a lot, you know, we got into this, you know leading into this actual season. Jeez, how many coronavirus updates that we talked about on this podcast about hey, this is what the League's doing. This is what they're making them do kind of thing. So something is clearly working. It's really great to see that that's positive news that you know that they're only seeing that wage. Chat, I think I that they should I really think they should go with a handy read mask to be quite honest can still see the coaches face. The microphone can kind of be up underneath it. So they may be able to understand what the coaches saying and and you're shielded. You know, when somebody comes up to your face, you know, I mean, think that that's fine but having to wear them like when it's just, you know covering your face in your nose again, like it's hard for me to understand people when they're wearing a mask and talking to me. Yes, I mean, so imagine imagine being on the field the quarterback coaches saying the guys in booth coordinators up in the booth are trying to understand what the guys on the field coordinators on the field are trying to say, I mean, it's just it's a it's crazy. So it's a shitshow you gotta be able to walk. You gotta be able to your job. I would take that looking like I've got the windshield of a Camry in front of my face the whole time vs Lee having something on my mouth cuz that's frustrating me. Yeah. Give me the telephone number. Windshield all day long over the you know, suffocating face masks which by the way speaking of Tesla. Did you see that their reports of some them being janky like getting like parts that were like really cheap shity on some of the Tesla's that were falling apart marvelous. I know so yet twenty-twenty doesn't happen. Just wanted to put that in there for you. All right coming up next in offsides, you know fall like we said is upon us. Although you wouldn't know here in Texas. It's still like an anus outside but here's something for your home that will make it fall feel less anus e okay Mom handles some new ones that are coming out and they're actually already out and we'll explain to you with those candles our next. All right, let's get into offsides and we've got some candles to tell you about so Amy, yeah, you know football's back. So if you want to get a little piece so that game day experience at home along with fall. This might work. Okay. I know you love candles. There's a company that's owned by Anheuser-Busch call Babe wine. They just created three football scented candles one smells like an artificial turf field. Okay one smells like a Nachos not bad and one

What you need to know about Tesla's 'battery day'
"Over the last few months there has been information leaking out about Tesla establishing a new battery production line near the Fremont factory, and it is aptly code-named roadrunner not only does that hint speed, but there might also be. A reference there to roadrunner and Wylie coyote the looney tunes characters engaged in a perpetual game of Jason, in which Miley Coyote could never catch the roadrunner. Maybe legacy auto is the Wiley Coyote to Tesla's roadrunner. So one of the expectations for Battery Day is that Tesla unveils this roadrunner production line to demonstrate the potential throughput that can be accomplished with all. These advancements I believe Ilan made reference to this today as well as tussles other progress in manufacturing outside of batteries. When he tweeted quote speed running Victorio and real life dot dot dot, and quote if you're unfamiliar Factoria is a video game described themselves. By saying quote Factoria was a game in which you build and maintain factories you'll be mining resources researching. Technologies building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies and quote that you're sounds a lot like. TUSLA. So a lot of these are related but I believe manufacturing and energy density at the pack level to be the two most important things for battery day. But it doesn't just end there. There are few other topics that may be discussed at Battery Day the first. which has been heavily speculated on is the possibility of Tesla introducing a million mile battery. So first things first on that that means a million mile life cycle or another way to say, that would be the ability for the battery to recharge. Let's say three or four thousand times without having significant capacity degradation because of already done a full ten fifteen minute episode. On the Million Mile Battery I'M NOT GONNA go into as much detail on that here a link that episode but the Short version is that they're already batteries capable of producing that many cycles. It's just a matter as it always is with batteries of the trade offs are willing to make. For example, does that increase the life cycle lower energy density or? Increased cost, and if so maybe it's not worth the tradeoff in fact, Tesla already has batteries that are capable of doing a million miles. They just don't use them in their vehicles because of those trade offs rather they use them in their energy storage products. So we'll see what Tesla has to say about a million mile battery they have talked about wanting. To, get there with the whole powertrain and the past, which really makes a lot of sense when you bring in a Tommy because if a scenario exists where there is a full self-driving row taxi that vehicles going to be traveling a lot more than ten thousand or fifteen, thousand miles per year if the utilization is five times higher or ten times higher. Then to have a useful life of ten years twenty years, you're going to need a million mile powertrain including that million mile battery. It also makes a lot of sense for other utility vehicles such as the upcoming Tesla semi the other wildcard that could potentially add life cycles to the battery for a vehicle would be vehicle to grid technology. Again, we've talked about. Tesla hasn't been super bullish on that technology in the past. So it's relatively lower on my expectations list there certainly value to that feature, but there's also complexity in extracting that value. So we'll wait and see what Tesla has to say on life cycle and any additional features that could drive utilization of those battery packs higher next on the watch list is. Charging capability there's a lot of potential here. We've already seen Tesla over the years increase the supercharging rate from ninety kilowatts to one hundred, twenty kilowatts, two, hundred, and fifty all the way up to two hundred and fifty kilowatts at peak now, and at the cyber truck unveiling last November onscreen they shut a graphic that showed the charging capability of the cyber. At. Two hundred and fifty kilowatts plus you elon musk at that unveiling said quote it will be capable of more than two hundred and fifty kilowatts will reveal the actual number later and quote. So maybe battery day ends up being that later we know that just last week lucid, motors announced that the lucid air will have three hundred and fifty kilowatt capable charging Tesla's kinda competitive. So I'm not sure they're gonNA, sit around for too long being outmatched on that charging rate. If we can get a bit speculative for a moment, one of our listeners, Florian halen helped me out with this it appears that the V. Three superchargers should be capable. Of quite a bit more output than the hundred and fifty kilowatt. Max. That does vehicles can charge at today to get a full understanding of this, we have to start with the version two superchargers. If we look at the label on those chargers, we can see the voltage listed at four hundred and ten volts. They amperage listed at two hundred and seventy amps to get the power capacity. We just multiply the voltage by the amperage. So in this case that comes out to about one hundred and eleven kilowatts but what happens in reality is that vehicles on version two charges, one hundred and fifty kilowatts all the time. So the amperage here is. Actually understated the same thing appears to be happening with the V. Three superchargers as well on the label for those, we can see that the voltage is thousand and the amperage is four, hundred and twenty-five. So multiplying those together yet Max power capacity of four hundred and twenty five kilowatts. So that's already higher than the two hundred and fifty kilowatts. The vehicles can accept today leaving some room for upside and charging rate but back to the amperage, it appears that the amperage capacity is understated on the be three charges as well. We have a screen shot here of a model three charging at that Max two hundred and fifty kilowatt rate, but with. The voltage only at three hundred, sixty eight. So if we divide those two hundred and fifty thousand watts, two hundred and fifty kilowatts by three hundred, sixty eight that gives us six, hundred eighty amps, which is well above the four hundred twenty, five amps on the label right now, a model threes battery is limited to four hundred and four volts. So at six hundred and eighty amps that would mean a Max charging rate of two, hundred, seventy, five kilowatts instead of the two, hundred fifty, that is listed, but it's probably limited at two hundred and fifty kilowatts to avoid overheating if we consider a new battery though maybe some of those constraints can. Be removed and the V. Three superchargers seems capable of delivering quite a bit more power than that two hundred, fifty kilowatts. If we use the six hundred eighty amps here that we have already seen register out of a supercharged V three location and we multiply that by the maximum a thousand volts we could be looking at a power output of six hundred eighty kilowatts from three charter and potentially even higher based on whatever that true actual limit on ams it's. So none of this means that Tesla's going to suddenly unveil a battery that's capable of charging at seven hundred kilowatts just that the V. Three chargers do seem to be putting in. Place. The infrastructure for higher charging to come over time with a new cell likely being introduced. Maybe we will hear more about that at battery debt last couple of aspects that I've heard discussed the first mining Tesla has alluded to maybe getting into mining someday if they needed to that's not something that I expect here from Battery Day as should be cleared by this point in time I think they've got enough to go through without going down that figurative rabbit hole but I do expect. Yulon mosque to again plead with suppliers to ramp up supply especially for nickel next is a point on Tesla suppliers we know that tussle works with Panasonic LG. L. To source batteries from them. So the question has arisen of how those partnerships are going to work and evolve if Tesla is designing and manufacturing their own cell and I think this is answered by what we spoke to earlier with product differentiation Tesla is going to need all the batteries they can get their hands on it's going to take time to ramp up their own battery production. So not only can they not just convert all their products over to their own cells instantly even if they were to do that, they still probably need even more batteries so they're going to continue to partner with these other suppliers though suppliers give them viable. Products, which can help Tesla Grow capture revenue capture prophet regardless of their own endeavors and battery cells and production as far as tesla actually supplying these cells to others I definitely don't expect that not for a long long time if at all, and that's really for the same reason, Tesla is gonNA need these cells themselves supplying them to another oem just adds again that extra layer of cost because both sides need their margin that creates a more expensive and a product for the consumer, which is contradictory to tussles goal of accelerating the advent of sustainable energy. So as long as Tesla is battery constrained, which I expect to be for a long time. See them supplying their batteries to anybody else. All right. So after all of this, we finally come to the product. The last thing to maybe expect out of Battery Day could be the introduction of the plaid model s and Model X. potentially being the first products to utilize these new battery cells as Tesla works to ramp up that initial production it's been yearly quiet on the plaid. Powertrain Front for a while now, but the timing is about right and maybe we will finally again here's something about the new roadster.

Inside the Start of an Online Membership Community with Kevin Fremon
"What's up everybody welcome to session four, hundred and twenty eight of the smart passive income podcast. Thank you so much for joining me today. My Name is Pat. Flynn here to help you make more money. Save more time and help more people to, and they were talking with Kevin Freeman who is starting a membership. In fact, he just recently launched it. We're going to talk about how he launched it and what it's been like in there, and how he is using this platform to communicate and have conversations and the types of conversations that he's happening to hopefully. Hopefully give you perspective on what is possible and you'll find out that it's not in fact, a giant community yet, and it's a slow start and I think there are reasons for that, and we'll talk about that as well, but I'm very proud of what has done. Kevin in fact is one of the members of our SPIC accelerator program, and this wasn't even a thing. When he came in to that program about seven months ago and to see this being created in the connections. He's creating with his community. Now it's just it's just unreal and I cannot. Tell you how mix how excited I am about how this is going to pan out in the future. We'll have to have him. Come back on the show to talk about what happens next, but you'll also find Kevin if you're interested on youtube. He's an amazing storyteller. A great friend so excited to introduce them to you here Kevin F. R. E. M. O. N. Fremont Helius. Kevin Welcome to the PODCAST. Thanks for being here man. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be here. Literally Pat for the past five years. I've been visualizing this very moments, and it is here, so thanks for having me I really appreciate it. Thank you and I remember you because Lincoln last year was when we really I met in person and gave his giant hug and I. I was like what happened like. What would that would i? What? Why do I deserve this and you've told me a lot more about your story. Even became a stew. Mike celebrated program. And now you're building these amazing communities, and just helping somebody more people yet these successful products online, and just so stoked to have become your friend recently and I just wanted to invite you on for A. A number of reasons number one I want to dig into your story a little bit because I think it's going to be very inspirational for people number two. You're working effort into building a new community. Literally from scratch lately has been really inspiring, because as many of you will hear next week. Matt and I have been building something related to this that works at its talk about, but we'll. We'll see that for later, but you've been just digging into the weeds of how to bring people together in your community in a very interesting way, and I want to unpack that as well, but let's start with with you head, and in your experience and entrepreneurship, and and of where this all start for you I know you have some incredible sort of ups and downs in this arena. Yeah. Absolutely, you know. It's funny that you mentioned kind of an. That's the topic of our conversation today because. Literally for the last twelve years I have been building communities both on the technical design side, and also on the human side, and there has absolutely been a tremendous amount of downs. It's actually what has helped me kind of come to this realization of what I would call the three CS of community and we'll get to that later in the show, but my story goes like this. When I was twenty three I basically said goodbye to the corporate world, and started off on a journey of my own as a creative as A. As someone who knew that I just wanted to step into entrepreneurship. And I remember the first big project. That's really kind of set the course for lot of my journey forward, and coincidentally that was actually community. This referral came in to myself and my cousin, who at the time had this design and branding business where we would build web products for other entrepreneurs and this client came in and said I want wikipedia meets facebook needs web MD and I wanted to be a community of people to expose all modalities of medicine and health. and. Of course, my cousin and I look at each other. Having just started this new business and look at our clients, potential client and say to them. We got this. We can do this. Let us your quotes and we'll get moving on this project. This turned into our first million dollar projects, and we worked on this community for a good three years, developing a really robust platform and learning a lot about community building, and so is that moments where I found this real love for helping entrepreneurs build products build community. That really helped the world. And so as we move through that journey, I had this wild idea of my own because I wanted my own concept. I wanted to build my own community. Elon Musk Says Tesla Suing California County, Moving Headquarters Out Of State
"Week. California started phasing in the reopening of business including manufacturing so when that was announced Tesla CEO Elon. Musk sent out a memo to ten thousand employees at a factory in Alameda. County telling them to come into work the next day but just a few hours after that memo the local government in Alameda County said not so fast they were keeping tighter restrictions in place and Tesla's factory was not allowed to open yet in response. Tesla sued and Monday. Musk said they're opening their factory. Anyway here to tell us all about this lawsuit and what it could mean for businesses and governments across the US is our reporter. Tim Higgins Tim. Thank you so much for being here. Thank you all right. Let's start with Tesla. What is Tesla arguing in this suit? One of the things that you must angry about is that The California state government has to open up again including manufacturing and he's arguing that essentially that the local government has overstepped its authority by saying that. Tesla's factory cannot reopen that. The governor's office allowing for the state to reopen and that the US constitution allows for these sorts of things so really Arguments at the county. Government is overreaching and then he made a comparison to another facility. That is a nearby county. What's his argument? There Tesla has its has one assembly plant in the US but it has a number of facilities around California that help with the business. And there's a factory that is not that far from the assembly pant that has in a different county and the people there are not facing the same kind of shelter in place restrictions. Tassels reason the question of why are why isn't a uniform wise? They're pointing to figures. They say indicate that the rate of infection is very similar Why is one place stricter than the other so? Musk actually went a step further and reopened TUSLA yesterday. Right surprising a lot of people Monday. Tweeting out that He was opening the factory starting production that day in fact he said he's going to be on the assembly line and that if the police show up to arrest people he should be the one that's arrested so let's just back up a little bit. This sets tesla apart from many of its tag counterparts right. I mean facebook and others have announced that they're not bringing employees back to the office for months. Why is Elon? Musk and tesla wire. Wise Tusla's taking such a big stand here exactly facebook and Google and others. They can largely do their work at home on computers. Were Tesla makes cars. It needs an army of workers in the factory banging on metal to build these vehicles so they can sell them and without the Fremont Factory Online. It doesn't have anything to sell here in the US eventually. The cars that they made prior the shutdown. They're not gonNA have anything. So if Tesla is going to take advantage of any potential economic rebound that something might occur in the months to come as the country learns to live with the Corona virus. It needs cars. The shutdown came at a bad time for Tesla. It was just a ramping up. Production of its newest vehicle. The Model Y Compact Sport Utility vehicle is a vehicle that Elon. Musk has said could be. The company's top seller analysts expected to do very well. It's a good segment for this kind of vehicle and really there was a lot of enthusiasm among investors about the year ahead and so what the Krono virus has done is essentially. Put everything on ice and The problem for you on musk. Is that this. Factory has been sitting Essentially vacant for weeks. Now and he needs the lifeblood of the company to kick back on. I guess comparing to facebook isn't quite fair. I mean the better comparison might be to other. Automakers what are we seeing Michigan do for example and how our automakers they're responding. That's some of the frustration that musk has been. Venting is that Michigan announced last week and then that they were bringing manufacturing back online this week so Monday. As Yuan is sitting there unhappy that his factory is an open open. Places in Michigan could come back online and he knows his competitors have already announced. Gm for Chrysler others that they're kicking up production GM and Ford. They're a scheduled to start assembly vehicles again next Monday and here in California. That's that's not the case so elon. Musk has taken it another step further. He also has threatened to move production out of California altogether. He's saying maybe to Texas. What kind of impact could his departure have on? The state would smell something that can happen. Overnight it's not as simple as picking up his tools and going to Texas and starting to make cars and a new factory I. It's much more complicated. And it's something that probably would take years to do but the effect would be dramatic. Tessa wouldn't be the first car company to pull out of California Toyota. Its headquarters for the US. North America used to be based on your La and they pulled out over the course of several years starting in two thousand fourteen and they went to Texas because in emerged part it's cheaper to operate their California had just gotten to expensive the factory that Tesla owns and California used to be a factory that was jointly operated by General Motors and Toyota in when GM wind bankruptcy left to Toyota and Toyota. Didn't want to didn't want to be there anymore. I wanted to go to someplace. Cheaper the state of California has in recent generation or so struggled to keep a car manufacturing and the Fremont factory the fact that Tesla was able to buy in two thousand ten and resume making vehicles there in twenty twelve was seen by the the region him by Government officials is a huge win and is something very important for the economy states. Local leaders across the country prize car factories. These are things they want. It means jobs. It means economic investment. It means all the and things that go with with that so it's not just the car factory it's the suppliers and the ecosystem that creates and brings into the community so this kind of threat in some ways was almost going nuclear to say that he was going to pull out of of the state now a lot of people are saying or asking was was just because he lost his temper. And and that sort of thing. Well we'll see. He has said on twitter that he's not messing around and he's taking this very seriously. Some of this of course is also. He's in essentially negotiating in public. He's trying to push put pressure on on the local government to allow him to open up. Yeah I mean it's it's a very public lobbying effort if you can call it that I think the interesting thing is. We'VE SEE BUSINESSES. Do this all the time time right to get tax incentives or or other deals but in this case it's public health interests that are at stake. How HAVE OFFICIALS IN ALAMEDA? County responded to this very open threat And is the pressure that he's putting on them seeming to impact their decisions to reopen at all whether the mayor of Fremont put out a statement saying that she supports Tesla and the Mayor of Palo Alto or the company's headquarters is located. Put out a statement over the weekend about their support for the company. It's a tough position for some of these elected officials They want to see the company. Back Open. They want to see businesses back. Open him yet. Some are also weighing the health ramifications. Several people have died in the county from Kovic Nineteen and they have reported More than two thousand cases of Govan Nineteen and so the concern among county leaders is that they're not sure if there's going to be a spike as they start to re phase in business activity and they'd like to see it play out a little bit longer and be prepared and the idea of ten thousand people coming into a facility is concerning and so they have been working with the company to make sure that the safety protocols in place and the Tesla has Publicized some of these. Things are what they're working on. And that's where the standoff here is. It's not when we're unique to test so there are lots of places and companies around the country who are frustrated and want to get back to the way things were and we've seen state by state by state Different ways of handling this. But there's probably no higher profile company in the US The take this kind of stand to to sue the local authorities and to Defy a local shutdown order. Well we wouldn't expect anything else from Elon. Musk I guess. Our reporter Tim Higgins. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you

"It's almost midnight nine on May twenty fourth eighteen fifty six in Franklin County Kansas. A group of eight men creep along the Pot Awadhi Creek in the darkness of night in the distance. Candlelight from a small house closed through the trees the men sneak through the underbrush toward the lights. This is the home of James P doyle. A pro slavery man from Tennessee. The hour is late and visitors are infrequent so instead of answering the door doyle calls out from inside. Yes what is it what do you want. Can you tell me the way to the Wilkinson Place. But the man that knocked is not looking for Wilkinson's home he knows exactly where Wilkinson lives in. Fact fact abolitionist. John Brown knows the name and location of every pro slavery. Man along the creek. He and his family settled Kansas to fight a war against slavery and incensed at the sacking of Lawrence. Brown is now ready to fight fire with fire and strike terror in the hearts of the pro slavery people tonight. He and his sons John's along with several other abolitionists already to take an eye for nine doyle. Not Knowing of Brown's true intent lets his guard down and opens the door the media brown and his men seized the opportunity and storm the house. No stay back stay away from my family. The Doyle Children Huddle around their mother other sons. The age of twenty two twenty and sixteen and oils young daughter Brown barks orders take outside. Brown's men grabbed doyle and his three sons panic. Mrs Doyle throws her arms around the youngest of the three begging Brown not to take him Brown ultimately spares the boy but orders the other other to out along with their father they walk them a short distance down the road. Doyle pleads with his captor in doing this what have I done wrong to you. You've wrong Kansas Mr Doyle you've round decency and liberty you've wronged God. This is his justice and John. Brown takes his pistol and aims at doyle's forehead. Please take my life but spare my boys spare them Isaiah Chapter Fourteen Verse Twenty One prepare slaughter for his children for the sins of their fathers that they do not rise nor possessed the land or feel the face of the world with cities unease John Brown shot James Doyle in the forehead then Brown sunset upon the younger doyle's with their swords one of the young Doyle's was struck down in an instant but the other attempted escape and was pursued and caught. He died a frightening death with his head head gashed open in his arms hacked off completely but the violence did not end there. Brown's company then attacked two more homes slashing to death a total of five five men in the master Brown's attack only escalade. What would come to be called Bloody Kansas by the end of the Kansas conflict? Some two hundred men were killed. Hold the violence. In Kansas escalated. Even as Washington and President Pierce remained. Paralysed as the election of eighteen fifty six got underway bloody Kansas Kansas doomed Democratic President Pierce's nomination the events of Kansas and his inaction made pierce look inept a failed leader incapable of de escalating the crisis one Democrat said of Pierce. He has no real strength but there is much weakness in him. Personally there's undoubtedly an active opposition to Pearson or rank which we are bound to respect. That opposition rallied around one man. James Buchanan on June fifth at the Democratic National Convention Buchanan was is nominated as the democratic. Party's candidate for president. His running mate was congressman. John Breckenridge of Kentucky. You can't had served as a Congressman Senator and secretary three of state under President Polk but he was not chosen for his resume instead he was chosen because the conflict and Kansas was widely unpopular and Buchanan. Being the Minister Mr to Britain was out of the country time his hands were clean. The decision of who would face Buchanan was settled on June nineteenth when the Republicans is held their first national convention. They followed the old whig party. Strategy of nominating a war hero known as the Pathfinder California Senator John C. Freemont Egmont was the famed explorer who had mapped much of the American West. He had also helped win California during his service in the Mexican American War Republican selected New Jersey Aziz Senator William Dayton as his running mate and adopted a platform of opposition to the expansion of slavery their campaign slogan was free soil free speech and Fremont Egmont the anti immigrant and anti-catholic know nothings nominated former president Millard as their nominee feel more had not sought the presidency and was was out of the country during the nomination but he reluctantly accepted fill. More like Buchanan was chosen for his lack of connection to the Kansas debacle quickly campaign campaign group dirty. The know nothings in eighteen. Fifty six would launch a series of attacks against Fremont and the press in what might be called the first presidential birther scandal the know nothings accused Fremont of being a foreigner. Though it was true. His father was French Canadian. His mother was a Virginian. These attacks also revealed that Fremont was an illegitimate legitimate child but of all the salvos launched by the know nothings none had more traction against Fremont than his suspected Catholocism. He was called a Roman EST and a papist pissed in his defense Republicans stumped hard for Fremont and many including abolitionist preacher Henry Ward Beecher author. Harriet Beecher stowe's brother personally vouched as for him. Being a Protestant Republicans ran an aggressive campaign with chants of we shall overcome. They promised to defeat the powerful Democratic Party. They lauded Fremont's amongst youth and vigor. In contrast to the sixty three year old Buchanan they held rallies and parades stumping for Fremont were popular senators Salmon Chase and Charles Sumner honor Abraham Lincoln pitched into giving almost fifty speeches for the Republican candidate. Meanwhile the Democrats ran an entirely different kind of campaign. Aside from calling Fremont young and inexperienced they came pant on fear painting Republicans as radicals. Who would end slavery for good in Indiana? Democrats held a parade featuring young girls in white dresses holding banners. Reading father's save us from nigger husbands many claim that if Fremont were elected the union would dissolve. You can't and embrace this feeling saying this race ought to be run on the question of Union or Union. The sentiment was only made worse when many Republicans called for the speedy peaceful and equitable disillusion of the existing union seeing the slavery issue as unreputable and disunion the only solution Asian ultimately in the presidential election of eighteen fifty six the threat of succession pushed many to support Buchanan hoping again to maintain the status quo and keep the union. The country had already had a taste of conflict with bloody Kansas. Many sought to avoid more bloodshed. Buchanan would win the south. There was no doubt so for Democrats. Most of the heavy campaigning was done in the north in five key. Swing states that will determine the next President Illinois Indiana Maryland New Jersey and Pennsylvania in November of eighteen fifty six when the votes were tallied Fremont didn't win a single southern state in the north. He won eleven Free State's though he gave the Republicans a great. I run as a party. It was ultimately not enough to overcome Buchanan of the swing states. Buchanan carried all but Maryland which went to know nothing candidate Millard fillmore. It would be the first and last electoral votes. The know nothings would never win. After the eighteen fifty six election the know nothings would crumble and not return to make a presidential run in the election of eighteen sixty though the Kansas Nebraska act had damaged damage the Democrats by further entrenching sectionalism and uniting. Anti Slavery Factions. You can instill emerge victorious though it was far from a landslide. You you can only received forty five percent of the popular vote. The newly formed Republican Party had lost but they had made a strong showing needing many southern Democrats afraid for the future. That fear in the south would carry through much Buchanan's term in the north the overwhelming feeling throughout Buchanan's presidency would be ranged escalate slavery struggle in both Congress and the courts would push the country to the brink. "The first shots came on November twenty first eighteen fifty-five when fro slavery settler shot and killed a free stater. This sparked a series of arrests and attempted lynchings that progressively escalated until May of eighteen fifty six when a group group of deputize pro slavery men rode into the fortified Free State town of Lawrence Kansas. The pro slavery faction considered the town a hotbed of Free State Agitators so under the guise of assisting federal marshal with the arrest them scape free stater the pro slavery band of deputies quickly devolved into an army of pillagers who sacked the town. Free State newspaper offices were destroyed. A Free State hotel was burned. Anti Slavery. Agitators were captured. The South was celebratory celebratory and the north indignant on May nineteenth eighteen fifty six on the Senate. Floor the abolitionist Senator Charles. Sumner of Massachusetts admonished. The sacking of Lawrence in a heated speech called the crime against Kansas. He lays the blame for the situation or what he called. Murderous robbers from Missouri hirelings rulings picked from the drunken spew vomit of an uneasy civilization. He then attacked Democratic Senator Stephen Douglas of Illinois and Andrew Butler of South Carolina for inciting citing the crisis in Kansas. He called Douglas a noisome squat and nameless animal. Not a proper model for an American senator. Andrew Butler was not present present in the Senate so he did not witness Benham. Sumner spit in his direction. Sumner shouted Senator Butler has chosen a mistress. I mean the Harlot slavery very a few days later on the twenty second of May Senator Butler's cousin Representative Preston Brooks viciously defended his kin. He approached some right right his desk in the Senate Chamber and Said you've libelled my state and slandered my white haired old relative Senator Butler. I've come to punish you for it. Brooks Brooks then took. His gold tipped cane tight made for disciplining dogs and struck Sumner Multiple Times about the head. He hit some. They're so hard to came. Shattered Dirt Brooks was unhinged is wild volume blows was only stock when several men restrained him. Sumner cried out. I'm almost dead. Almost dead covered in blood. Sumner had to be carried out of the Senate. Both men recalled heroes by the respective camps Preston Brooks for taking matters into his own hands ends and Charles Sumner for suffering half the cause but days later news of an even more horrific act of violence in Kansas would soon overshadowed the brook. "On March fourth eighteen fifty three in his inaugural speech Pierce had made clear to the country his views on slavery stating I believe that involuntary contrary servitude as it exists in different states of this confederacy is recognized by the Constitution. I believe that it stands like any other admitted right and that the states. Where are it exists are entitled to officiant remedies to Enforce Constitutional provision? I hold that the laws of eighteen fifty commonly called the compromise measures are strictly constitutional and to be unhesitatingly carried into effect. It would be this view that would formulate pierces message to Congress in January eighteen fifty fifty four in support of Stephen Douglas Nebraska Act having secured the written statement from the president at their private conference on the night of January twenty second. Douglas presented a new you bill on the Senate floor called the Kansas Nebraska Act which created to New Territories and repealed the eighteen twenty line that established the Missouri compromise. Douglas then read to the dismay of many in the north president. Pierce's written message that the line established under the Missouri. Compromise of eighteen twenty was superseded by The principles of the legislation of eighteen fifty pierce declared the Missouri compromise inoperative and void to Douglas. His bill settled the matter of slavery entirely. He felt that his bill would in all time to come. Avoid the perils of a similar agitation by withdrawing the question of slavery from the halls halls of Congress and the political arena and commitment to the arbitration of those who were immediately interested in and alone responsible for its consequences. Douglas also also hope that his bill would bring him much needed southern support to pass his Nebraska territory bill and his plan for the transcontinental railroad the repeal of the Missouri. Compromise reminds was a lightning rod for both sides of the argument for Democrats. It was a test of loyalty to the Party. Pierce made it known that if anyone was not in favor of the expansion of slavery they were no longer welcome in the Democratic Party he said the administration is committed to the Nebraska Bill. And we'll stand by it at all hazards. The principle of this bill will perform the test of parties and the only alternative is either to stand with democracy or rally under seward. John Van Buren Company. Men Democrats considered anti slavery savory zealots but the measure was still politically tricky. Douglas and hope of bringing the whole of the Democratic base to their side made a motion to postpone the vote until popular support was fully behind the measure. Those who opposed the expansion of slavery also supported the measure to postpone a vote. They needed time to sway public opinion away from the Nebraska. RASCAL BILL SO AVID Anti Slavery Congressmen Salmon. P Chase William Henry seward and Charles. Sumner drafted an address to rile public outcry. The Senate and it would most likely support Douglas's bill but the house was more vulnerable and more in touch these senators believed with public sentiments against slavery's expansion into the north in late January eighteen fifty four senator chased delivered. The address called the appeal of the Independent Democrats in he denounced the attempt by Douglas to undermine the Missouri compromise chase declared at the present session in New Nebraska. Bill has been reported by the Senate Committee on territories which should it unhappily received. The sanction of Congress will open all the unorganized territories of the Union to the ingress of slavery and convert it into a dreary region of despotism inhabited by masters and enslaves chase then appeal to the anti slavery emotions. Now stirring in the north. We appeal to the people. We warn you that the dearest interest of freedom and the Union Munir in imminent peril demagogues may tell you that the union can be maintained only by submitting to the demands of slavery. The union was formed to establish justice and secure cure the blessings of liberty when it fails to accomplish these ends it will be worthless and when it becomes worthless it cannot long endure. We entreat you to be mindful of that fundamental maximum democracy equal rights and exact justice for all men then chase gave a call to action recruiting churches to their cause us we implore Christians and Christian ministers to interpose their divine religion requires them to behold in every man a brother and two Labor for the advancement and regeneration of the human race. Finally Chase pledged. An unwillingness to compromise on the issue of feeling that by the end of eighteen fifty four would soon be shared by much of the North North. Chase promised for ourselves we shall resist it by speech and vote in with all the abilities which God has given us. Even if overcome and the impending struggle we shall not submit we go home to our constituents erect a new the standard of freedom and call on the people to come to the rescue of the country from the domination of slavery slavery we will not despair for the cause of human freedoms is the cause of God. The address address worked a wave of public dissent swept through the north fueling protests and igniting anti-slavery advocates to take action at church services across north ministers preached against the bill many in the north sign their names to anti bill petitions Douglas's Nebraska. Bill had unintended consequences. He didn't united the North within a common cause and many northern Democrats swayed by chase abandoned. The party disillusioned whigs without a sense of direction since death of their party leader. Henry clay rallied to the cause also joining the fight. Where the free spoilers who oppose slavery mainly because it created unfair labor competition and stifled wages these groups united and use their combined influence to stop the Nebraska? Bill's passage after months of both sides rallying support for and against the bill and months months of fierce debate and filibusters. The bill came to a vote in both houses in the Senate it passed as expected thirty seven to fourteen and on the thirtieth of May. Hey the house. Vote fell on mainly sectional lines. Northern Democrats were split on the bill narrowly supporting it forty four to forty two all forty five northern whigs league's opposed it. Southern Democrats voted in favor of the bill. Fifty seven to two southern whigs split their votes twelve to seven and support the total House vote vote was one thirteen to one hundred in favor of the bill making Kansas Nebraska New Territories with a sovereignty to make their own decisions on slavery. Douglas had won the battle. President Pierce with an ecstatic secretary. Jefferson Davis beside him. Signed the act into law in penises inaugural speech. He had warned against against sexual or ambitious or fanatical excitement but pierce and Douglas had in trying to end the debate on slavery only exacerbated and set into motion a bloody battle over the future of the Kansas territory in what many historians consider to be the precursor to the civil war. Immediate reaction to the passage of the act was a reactionary canary obstinate refusal by many in the north to honor the fugitive slave act. If the south was going to end a longstanding compromise the north would stop compromising its beliefs compliance with the fugitive. Slave act was over and many would find themselves willing to commit insurrection. In order to defend those who had escaped from bondage in ending the Missouri compromise the south had thought they had won the argument.

"The compromise of eighteen. Fifty was yet another attempt by the nation to set aside. Its sectional views of slavery in the the interest of maintaining a fragile union. But with the compromise came the fugitive slave act which put the issue of slavery on the North's doorstep and ignited anti slavery every sentiment though. The law was detested by many the election of eighteen fifty two saw both the Democrat and whig parties endorsed eighteen fifty compromise and the fugitive slave act in service of national unity. The election fractured and already weak and leaderless whig party along sectional lines and in the end it was Franklin K Pierce Appro Slavery Democrat from the North who drew wide enough appeal to win the presidency. Pierce was viewed as non-confrontational candidate who would maintain the status this quo but pierce's term would bring an end to another legislative accommodation the Missouri compromise which had limited slavery's expansion and held the divided country together therefore generation its repeal in May of eighteen fifty four with the Kansas Nebraska. Act would leave the issue of slavery to popular opinions of each state. The territories of Kansas and Nebraska would become the focal point of conflict between the pro and anti slavery forces no longer willing to compromise on the issue in the wake of a bloody battle. For power the election of eighteen fifty six would bring the demise of the whig party from its ashes. Two new parties would arise the anti immigrant. American can party otherwise known as the know nothings and a predominantly northern party which opposed the expansion of slavery called the Republican Party. The presidential contest first of eighteen fifty six would bring with it a sectional fight. The likes of which the country had never seen this is episode eighteen eighteen fifty six the end of compromise undermine it's January twenty second eighteen fifty four and the delegation of Congressmen undercover of darkness or on their way to the White House to meet with President. Pierce the entourage has led by Stephen Douglas Chair of the Senate Committee on territories when when they arrive at the White House they are greeted by peers as war secretary. Jefferson Davis Davis helps the congressman out of their carriage. Welcome Senator Douglas. Thank you Mr Secretary for arranging this. I trust that this meeting has remained discreet. We have kept our circle. Small Mr Davis we are grateful for the president's willingness to meet us at at this late hour on the Lord's Day no less. He detests business on Sunday. But given the subject of your visit. He made an exception. The men marched through the candlelit halls of the White House to the library. Where President Peter Stands stoically by the fireplace? Mr President Senator. Douglas Gentlemen I trust. You know. We're here Mr President. The route of the transcontinental railroad has yet to be chosen and Douglas the director of the Illinois Central Railroad and a land speculator later wants to start the railroad his hometown Chicago but staunch pro slavery. Democrats have made it clear. If Senator Douglas Wants Western expansion and a transcontinental railroad he will have to support them in the spread of slavery. Douglas has therefore drafted a bill to win their support. But he I must secure the support support the President Gentlemen you are entering on a serious undertaking. The ground should be well surveyed before the first step is taken Mr President. We do not make this decision lightly. I think we do believe it is the right course. Douglas wants to repeal the Missouri compromise which prevents slavery over thirty six thirty parallel in the territory. Acquired the Louisiana purchase this would allow all future states formed from this territory the ability to decide whether or not to allow slavery themselves but Pierce is reluctant lockton. The Missouri compromise has long held this country together. Now you wish me to support your efforts and undermining our national tranquility the railroad will be built. Mr President Progress is coming to the West. If Democrats are to control the territories and the destiny of this nation. Slavery must be allowed to expand. I am a president of the country country. Now senator not only the Democrats but without the Democrats you would not be president Sir. You have them to thank for your office and them to rely on for reelection Mr Douglas. Why not take the to the courts? If I find the compromise unconstitutional it will spare Congress and my office any fault in the manner Douglas. Douglas is known as the little giant. Though you small in stature. He is known for his ability to win the debate. Using his fiery passion skill with words it must be Congress. Mr President President Sir. Repeal of the compromise is due to the south. We must fight for her though I shall be a sale by fanatics without moderation though every terrible epithet will will be applied to me though I shall be hung in effigy and this proceeding may end my political career. I have the duty to repeal this unconstitutional policy. I am prepared prepared to make the sacrifice I will do it will you. President Pierce has always thought of Douglas as demagogue only motivated by self interest but tonight pierce season as a true patriot. Mr Douglas. I will support your measure.
