"What don't forget that point. Let's just even say thirty percent. Thirty percent of people already have some form of immunity from previous things. That's been cited the media from the beginning of this for reasons of why you might get false. Positives remember that. But let's consider that what the vaccine. Why if you already have immunity. Why of thirty of sixty percent have immunity. Why do we need vaccines. I mean sixty percent of was already low number that voucher stated community. If that's almost already there guys you get the point. This is a selective they. This is selective data break one day. It's one thing because they want to sell you on this. The next day out lies because he wants to sell you on that all you need to take it upon yourself that commits never been more clear likewise if someone already suffers from terminal illness unless the end stage events include symptoms of severe covid nineteen. It should not be counted among the causes of death. That's a briton. No brainer but that's not what's happening. A scroll through the spreadsheet and a bit of clinical knowledge support the estimate that the freedom foundation is as as a minimum number or at the the twenty percent or thirteen before that as being a minimum number meaning. It's almost i guarantee attire than that. If my opinion it is a dereliction of duty they say for the cdc and the nchs not to tailor their guidelines to the disease progression of covid nineteen infection capable of contributing to a person's death. And niels ferguson is the one who went on the news yes as right here notably while most nerve tag members opposed the sort of immediate action. That johnson announced following their meeting right so the team the group. That's the abbreviation is nerve tag. That's collected in order to vote on this. The majority of them said no no no..

"Quote the force that is evident to come upon us in quote. Who does that even mean. What does that slow at least one member of the group a couple days before that had been arrested for disturbing the peaceful protesting outside the home of one of the central district. Health board members the infamous. Yeah the the armed mob outside of her home with her children in it. Yeah yeah loud. Armata armed and again. I'm going to repeat this. A group of people shouting outside of somebody's home with guns is a mob not not a protest. The correct response to a protest is listen or ignore it. The correct response to an armed mob is called the police and run for your life. I should have been squinched This group is actively preparing and training for military engagements particularly with small groups of five to ten people. They are using arming and training on ham. Radio use yeah. These guys are serious. They're going to attack something and in their religious discussion around it bundy quoted in one of his lectures to only use the violence when it is righteous quote it never righteous to use it in offense right. That's his deal. You never go on the off. You never throw the first punch you get somebody to punch you. First rate you take is a government building you take over government building and get somebody to punch incite a mob outside of somebody's house you break into Council meetings do everything you can to get somebody to punch you. You let loose you. Who are more than willing to shoot the cops that everybody's trying to figure out and it's if i pardon me still wishes that they would have done that in the first place and avoided this whole thing but yeah when most of the cops of your town are a part of this group. There's not much you can do there. That's actually most of the cops aren't part of this. I heard that emmett police were pretty much least boise. Cops are not the boise cops know. They've got a lot more on their plate but emmett is like a attrash town beautiful river nice. Cherries the boise. Police department does have a liaison with this group. they have liaisons with most groups who planned protests but boise. Police also makes a point of trying to not monitor politically motivated groups. Cover their ears lila. Yeah that's yes. There have been questions we've talked about is bunny behind all of this. Yes yep he is and the freedom foundation is giving him the money for it. Idaho freedom foundation's also involved This this next story goes into a lot of that These the protests outside people's homes were people's rights. That was the group doing those k b protests outside of the central district. health department in boise. Was idaho freedom foundation. Idaho freedom networks like that. Yeah with several hundred people showing The central district health had two meetings that got cut short because the police needed to clear the mob. Basically yeah and on the third meeting the vote was a three three tie and this vote was on Taking the public health advisory or the four counties under their jurisdiction to public health order that would have instituted a mask mandate and social distancing mandates and encouraging much more strongly encouraging businesses to offer delivery and Curbside pickup and stuff like that closing The bar not closing bars but closing the bar at the bar and dance floors and all of those things of this is already in effect in ada county and valley county so two of the four counties boise county and elmore county. Don't have those rules but outside of boise would have been a strengthening of the accent. They say boise mccall. It would have been a strengthening of the rules across the entire district D- share can break ties and chose not to She chose to let the motion failed in the the way the vote went down voice counties member voted against valley counties. Member voted against tell more counties. Member voted against ada county because it has like ninety percent of the population of these four counties has three members. Okay they all three voted for. Can't there you go. that's when you have to fear for your life and property you the people voting against yes. They cited the protests and works the angle with a gun angry complaints. There were getting threats to their lives and also a concern that an order would piss people off and make some people not comply that might with an advisory if they're not complying by now they're not going to the problem is they can't enforce it The other the one other point they had on that was not wanting to push people that are on the line over to the anti mitigation side right before they can get vaccine. It's just ridiculous. Being held hostage by these people and our government is rolling over for it. Yup show up with vaccines with guns as all happening. Were while take a vaccine okay. We're gonna protest outside your house britain until you get one and all this while. Our our hospitals are in the verge of collapse. Yeah but that's faked or is unrelated to kovin. Oh my god. these people are just. I wanted to work for the first time in five months. I think yeah and i was there for two hours in that time span while working on being there to talk to the vendor about covid testing. We're going to be bringing online very very soon. i took some paper shredding bins and on my way back had to follow corpse getting taken to the mark. I the precautions. The people were wearing pushing the patient. I'm pretty sure that was a covid patient. Yeah yeah people are dying it is real. It is not fake. Almost three hundred thousand people.

"But unfortunately, we have seen a pattern of criminal behavior here. And we have one case filed in Oregon just filed yesterday on behalf of a public employee who went for years, not knowing that he could avoid pain union dues. He never signed a membership card. He's never become a member. Um, And when he finally did it to get out hey was told. Well, you can't. Basically you find this membership card. Um and then we were able to confirm that that was, in fact, a forgery. I mean, I wish to show you the card. It doesn't even look like a signature. It certainly doesn't look like the plaintiff's signature. So currently, Freedom Foundation has five cases. All this very topic. These are flat out forgeries. We have one case, your organ three in the state of Washington and one in the state of California currently now you have to kind of come upon these by accident, right? Because I mean, how what's the usual process by which a worker figures out that he or she is his is a member of a union that they never signed the union card for how do they usually find out? You have a very good question. I mean, you would think that the precursor of having any money taken out of your paycheck would be funny to membership card. But, you know, I agreed to pay, you know, And that's really what the law states you have to agree to pay before they can take your money. I mean, this is just You deciding Pay five bucks a month to, you know, have a membership. This is the state taking money out of your paycheck. And you know the rule is useless. Operate that before they take the money? Well, in this case, you know, this guy has not authorized it. How about is really complicated because it used to be that you know, public sector employees had to pay their union whether they wanted to or not, And just just recently in 2018 at the Supreme Court rule, you can't take people's money out of their paychecks unless they consent to that. The so called Janice decision. Yes, yes, the Janis decision exactly. But a lot of these points. For instance, in the organ case he'd been paying dues for about 10 years and never thought about it because he did not know he had the right to not pay that money, the calling of union just to talk about a routine constant matter which he would have the right Call and ask about whether he was a member or not. The representative was so rude to him on the phone that he would like. Well, how do I get out of this? You're not only love money anymore, Then you found out Well, they're alleging that he signed this card. And interestingly enough in this case, you know, he had the fourth protect to say I don't think I ever sign anything. Send me a copy of it. I did, and she's like that's not my signature. I never signed that. Then he thinking toe on. That's what we're here for. To help people to keep more of their own money and have more freedom and like you were saying earlier to have the choice, whether or not they actually want to support the unions. Andi. So you know, we didn't jump to any conclusions. We ask the union for an explanation. And an explanation was literally to come up with yet another card that they claim he signed that again was not his signature. So it is one case. We have two instances of forgery. Will rob Rebecca. You kind of make the point that I made. I have people saying, Well, we should. We should have rightto work, which is what it means to be in a place where the state in the private sector because, remember, Janice only applies public. Employees, But I would like it to apply to the the private sector and I told people your union will be a better union again. I don't oppose the idea of having union if people want to join..

"What's the level beyond tea party like? What's the next big boss so okay? Idaho's Idaho Freedom Foundation. I'm not sure who really the big bosses. I don't know fits Betsy Devos's family. Yeah they're definitely part of it. Her brother Eric. Prince is the head of Blackwater. Yeah so far right wing conservative family that wants to get public education and who own their own army. Yeah there's shock. Yeah yeah this is a family who wants to privatize everything brave. Because they've already shown how they can privatize and military exactly yeah. I don't know how well known it is but all of those numbers on how many troops are in Iraq. Were all about half with the real numbers were because of Blackwater and quote Mercenary Contractors. No of course mercenaries. Yeah Yeah and so anyway the the Devos and the Prince family are. They're actively involved in all of this funding some of the groups in particular the group that that's behind the Michigan New York Virginia rallies that Donald Trump tweeted about right because he had his own hand. I'm sure in making those I mean. He's actively said that. Oh Yeah He. He's actively saying that. He has all of the power. Not The governor's but the governors have to be doing everything and we should be doing all this sheltering in placing and not shutting out of these businesses but liberate these states because Second Amendment right which is a convoluted convoluted convoluted argument at best. It's not even a convoluted argument. It's it's not even an argument. He's you can't say trump can't say that he has absolute control over this because he doesn't especially when he also follows that with the. I'm completely not responsible for any of this right. He's trying to have his cake and eat it too. Which only works with far right wing groups that are being funded by a family that gets their money from government contracts war profiteering Yup and I mean today. The day of recording. We We had a big protest down the neighborhood. Park Kleiner Park in Meridian. It was a bunch of women in their kids. They're all playing on the playground. Equipment Co. Cram packed in there Because it was public property and they had a right to have access to it It was also funded by Freedom Foundation. And that's that's a logical follow-up to the protests that happened on Saturday on the purchase happened on Saturday with more than a thousand people in attendance at the Idaho State Capitol the Idaho. Freedom Foundation was the main group behind it but there were libertarians. Gun rights groups anti VACs groups all. They're waving their flags. Yeah it was. It was not a pretty scene. There is a lot of hostility. There were people being abused. Beaten I wouldn't say beaten but there is a couple of people who got pushed around and the cops protected the whole time. The people are getting pushed around or the people doing the pushing of the people. Doing the pushing no the people who were there protesting the cops are there to make sure that nobody got really hurt. But that didn't stop these people from hurting people who were protesting their protest. Yeah and a lot of these people were carrying guns. Yeah it was open. Carry season out there. It was which because that's what that's really about. Which if you're having a I know there are people who would argue this. But in my opinion a protest with guns is not a peaceful protest. No because the gun automatically is a sign of intimidation not right. If it's I mean that's how I feel if you have a rally with a bunch of people with guns that scary. Yeah with people with guns. That looks to me. A Lot. Like a military formation a rebel group of militia a peaceful protest in this case they weren't marching basically a peaceful protests. There does the other side feel that they can also protest so do you have equal protests anti protest groups going on in protests. Like this one where there was a lot of open Kerry. There was a lot of angry yelling people. There was no chance for an anti protest to develop because those people would have been in actual danger right and the whole point of this protest was too loudly and very aggressively. Threatened the government. Yeah and got away. Scot-free technically everyone in that protest committed a misdemeanor by being there yet but committee and getting charged with and actually be punished for are very different and also. There's no way that the state of Idaho could arrest more than a thousand people. Oh please tell me that. There's no way to tell if even five percent of them have guns. Yeah Yeah. It's really frustrated. Heather Scott from northern Idaho was of course all behind it. It's just it blows my mind that she's running that nobody's running against her so she's guaranteed in for the next. You know what the. Hell
Don't Put a Ring Camera in Your Bedroom
"So a few years back I gotta ring in the mail. It wasn't a proposal indecent or otherwise from a fan it wasn't a cock ring or an engagement ring. It was a doorbell ring. The Home Security Company now owned by Amazon briefly advertiser on the podcast sent me and Terry one of their products their most popular product which is basically a high tech doorbell. That's also a camera so if you have a ring doorbell someone rings your doorbell it calls your phone and you can see video of whoever's outside your door and there's a speaker on a too so you can talk to that person outside your door. The idea as I understood it at the time. was that someone when might ring your doorbell because they wanted to rob your house but they WanNa make sure you weren't home first before breaking down your door and if you didn't have rain they know you weren't home in break in but if you did have a ring you could speak to the robber on your front. Porch and the robber would go rob someone else's house because they would think you were at home because you were speaking to them them through your ring but the Ring Doorbell Camera. Phone video thingy the actual physical device you put outside your door and your door Jamb. It's so clunky and distinctive even on doorbell like in appearance that I thought it would have the opposite effect. If you were talking to someone view your ring instead of opening the door shouting through the door you're basically league leading all those polite doorbell ringing robbers out there. No you weren't actually at home so I had my doubts but I took the ring home and I showed it to Terry and we actually really wound up talking about installing it but not on our front door. We talked about installing it in our bedroom on the wall across from the bed so if one of us was doing something and we might WanNa know about it or watch or maybe listener offers some words of encouragement we could ring each other. Basically we looked at our ring and saw a vertebral pervert ables according to dot com are common household objects that have been corrupted or perverted for a sexual use that differs from there designed usage. I wake up at eight o'clock in the morning on a Sunday. So take that as a compliment. I appreciate it. And I think our listeners will appreciate it too. Because it is a very important topic. And it is it's important to know your rights. That's what this comes down to is knowing your rights within supreme court cases. And also just knowing your rights by based on the law that comes out, which a supreme court case would make it anyways. It's the law of the land. Exactly. So let's talk. Let's talk about this new case that that the freedom foundation is brought yet. So I'm going to provide some context with Janice. Janice was a supreme court decision decided and June of two thousand eighteen the core got rid of mandatory agency fees and also requires that public employees opt and to pain dues what that means is the union. Must obtain public employees affirmative consent. This means that the employee has to know their rights under Janice and voluntarily agree to give up those rights. So that's the context of our class action that we have going on. This good. This lawsuit involves five teachers who were pressured into signing a commitment card about two to three weeks before the Janice decision the union just left these their commitment cards and their mailbox and said, we need you to sign this right away. No explanation for it at all. They even told our lead plaintiff. We need you to hurry up and sign this. We have to avoid Janice. They ended up signing it because at the time they thought well, I'm gonna have to pay money to a union. Anyway, I might as well I felt like they they had no other choice. So they signed the card after the Janice decision. They finally learn about their rights, which is that they don't have to pay money to a union or join the union to keep their job and they wanted to exercise that right? So they came to us and Saint ASI asking the freedom foundation where the firm that really leads the fight and freeing people. From forced unionization. They came to us asking us to help them opt out. We, you know. Brought them through the steps of opting out, you know, and the the union really made it very difficult for people to opt out a they required. They had to send it to the and then they had to send a hard copy to their local union, and then they had to have several interviews with their union Representative. But in the end the union, let them out, but it's still forcing them to pay union dues, which is I I would love to get more into the details of this because it's so confusing to how you know, if you it seems like such a blatant disregard over what the law is. And and yet people thumbed their nose at supreme court precedent or out in laws in general all the time. And and this is so blatant. So new this is an old case that you know, you can you can hide behind the the mystery of years of. This largest maybe not being applied or something like that. But this is brand new. Yes. So go ahead. The the the the the court automatically put the burden on the union to show that the employees waive their rights, and the reason they did that is because our organization the freedom foundation actually wrote in a meek is brief to the supreme court really advocating for an often requirement because through the freedom foundation's experience with helping no partial public employees opt out they learned that unions are knocking to tell. Public employees of their rights. We have to put the burden on the union and even with this burden on the union, which is they have to show that the employee's can sent it. They're still trying to circumvent the law. Well, I mean, it's it's one of those things where you have an agency like the union rookie. I want to touch back on the meekest. Brief just in case anyone doesn't know. That's just a. An opinion. That's given to the core. It's called the friend of the court, basically, just sending in a an opinion that supports or is against a particular position within the case. Yes. Okay. Thank a persuasive piece. Yeah. Saying. Telling the court what? Yeah. And giving their own reason their own supporting or against a particular. So anyways with regards to and we do have to take our first break in just a second. Here. We're we're going to get in a little bit more in detail as to the background of how we got to this position. Because I think it's important to know the context, and we're going to stay away from the politics on this, even though there are political, I guess dividing lines on it. It is important to know that it's either you kind of agree with the required union dues or you don't. And we're going to talk about why one might be better than the other. So we are going to our first commercial break here. This is the lawyer and bluejeans show with Mariah gone der der of the freedom foundation. We'll be back right after this..

"Well, one of the things that I love about regulators that they clearly know what they are doing. This is most obvious today from the European Union, which is basically about destroy the entire internet in Europe. You're listening to the Ben Shapiro show. There's an article by the electronic freedom foundation today about the new EU copyright directives for the internet. They're totally insane. I mean, completely and utterly insane. Here's the way that this works under the final tax regulations. Now passed by the European Union any online community platform or service that has existed for three or more years or is making ten million euros or more per year. Which is pretty much every mid sized internet company that operates in the public space each one of those each one of those services is responsible for ensuring that no user ever posts anything that infringes copyright, even momentarily sofa comments are at our site daily wire posts, a Jeff from a movie, and we didn't do it. We will now be held to account underly rules as the F F points out. This is impossible the closest any service come to it spending hundreds of millions of euros to develop automated copyright filters. Those filters will subject all communications of every European to interception and arbitrary censorship. If a black box algorithms decides, their text pictures sounds or videos are a match for known copyrighted work there a gift to fraudsters. And criminals to say nothing of sensors both government and private these filters are unaffordable by all, but the largest tech companies all based in the United States. So it'd be fine for Google which could afford to put together algorithms. This. But for daily wire, we would simply stop operating in Europe. It is that simple. According to the F F, America's big tech companies would certainly prefer not to have to install these filters. But the possibility of being able to grow unchecked without having to contend with European competitors is a pretty good second prize. Amazingly. The tiny useless exceptions.

This is impossible. The closest any service can come to it is spending hundreds of millions of euros to develop automated copyright filters. Those filters will subject all communications of every European to interception and arbitrary censorship. If a black box algorithm decides their texts pictures sales or videos are a match for known copyrighted were there a gift to fraudsters. And criminals to say nothing of sensors both government and private these filters are unaffordable by all, but the largest tech companies all based in the United States. So it'd be fine for Google which could afford to put together algorithms. Like this. But for daily wire, we would simply stop operating in Europe. It is that simple. According to the F F, America's big tech companies would certainly prefer not to have to install these filters. But the possibility of being able to grow unchecked without having to contend with European competitors is pretty good second prize. Amazingly. The tiny useless.

The Idaho supreme court has ruled against the Idaho. Freedom foundation. The citing the voter mandated, Medicaid expansion is legal. So now, we just need the legislature to figure out how to fund it. Right. And so I loved reading into this and something where where the foundation basically was saying that the federal government would have their hands too much into it. And then the supreme court's like, no, we're not gonna listen to you. Because Medicaid is already already has federal governments plus a whole bunch of other programs. So basically like shut the fuck up and go away. So annoying. Yes. You're wasting our time as of recording. There are lease fifty two confirmed measles cases in Washington and foreign origin. My this is how the positive effect of a five hundred percent increase in demand for the memoir in Clark county, meaning that a lot of vaccine hesitant parents have accepted reality now that they've seen measles in their own community right inning to Merrick and. "And. And beyond that and having this kind of plug polled on short notice really think throws throws into sharp relief. How much people have grown to depend on the sort of thing. Yeah. Absolutely true. To have that followed up by Facebook's new terms of service, which seemed like which are also like absolutely chilling all kinds of speech about sex like even being able to express interest in sex. You know, there's there's one would normally think there was a difference between like exploiting people and just talking about sex saying you're interested in having sex or you know, communicating sexual information. But yes, they they are in fact banning quote, implicit sexual solicits solicite Shen so use of sexual slang nude images sexual partner preference and even just expressing interest in sex like this is this is awful awful for so many reasons the seems like so much overkill. I mean, I could say, for example, should come up and see me sometime out now your band. How it's ludicrous. So for folks who might aren't may not be aware. A number of groups are kind of speculating, and I'm looking at there's an article on. I've got one up here from the establishment the electron ick. Freedom foundation has also talked about this that we that that this is most likely a consequence of. Susta and foster which which I'll explain so. "Use ical imperatives right now. We don't we don't need to get into the the Underwood off right now. But Claire Underwood she's her own woman. What to do? Yeah. F you I won't do what you tell me. Yes. That's right. Perfect. Okay. So here's where the plot thickens. Okay. Tell me what are this shepherds up to? They've got this terms of service on hair app. And boy, this is a real dark plan that the shepherds are involved in. Yeah. Like, you said the house of cards, they do love their evil technology, and it looks like we've got Polly hop two point. Now. Thank you. I could not ever for the life of me. What this was what happened to the original Pali hop. I mean, maybe they just got shut down after all their election tampering. And they were so involved Acura exactly where we left off with them. But they were so involved with the Conway campaign. And helping him out. You know, maybe maybe you know, what some people expected what happened in real life to some of these tech companies actually happened to pie up, and they just got shutdown shutdown just left. Okay. Everybody's off of Polly hop butts. That we see that the shepherds are up to no good with the help of Seth who works at the shepherd freedom foundation that they basically tell me if I'm wrong here. Tell me if not not reading the situation correctly. It seems like the shepherds through their massive corporation create massive disasters and then set up places where people can get help. And to get help you need to get the app. And then when you get the app, then it controls like what news stories you see on your phone? That's the way it was described. So it's like they have the same plot as Mr. glass, and I'm breakable where they create these disasters to find everybody that they can touch through the disasters breakable, which one the new one come on. Now. Just the original. All right. It's a great movie. Yeah. So everybody should see it before this sequel comes out next year. Maybe there's a podcast in the works the sham on shared universe podcast. Yes. All right. So that seems like this is a crazy plan. I don't know what the app does. I don't know. If it's the can see what you do. I think it's just that. It installs tracking on your phone. And you know, it's probably like all these other apps where when you download it you give access to your camera in your microphone, and I think it's more that it's just tracking all of these people who've downloaded it. Yeah. But I don't know what what they get out of it. I thought it was like an apt to receive their benefits. So you can go on there, and you can apply for different aid..

Wages and benefits and protections against being fired without just cause, which is what happens every day in the private sector and one of the most fundamental, right. I believe of a union contract. The people passing around opt out of your union cards that day were from the freedom foundation, a nonprofit free market advocacy group based in Olympia Washington. It's one of several conservative right to work organizations, nationwide campaigning to decrease union membership and political clout after Janice. So we sent this around about one hundred and eighty thousand public employees in Washington Lieber policy director. Max Nelson says, the group has a three to four million dollar budget, and it's higher dozens of campaign workers to do mailings, social media outreach and door to door visits with public employees. Here's a promotional video. Distributing. My name is Kate. I've been a teacher for eighteen years. They took my money and spent it on causes an agenda. I don't agree with it's a pitch to workers pocket books. You can quit your union. Keep your dues and still get union benefits for free. Ben rast is a Washington state safety inspector and freedom foundation supporter until the Janice decision about fifty dollars went from his paycheck every month to the state employees union, even though he never joined, they do provide a service collective bargaining, and I'm sure they have been responsible for a good portion of the pay and benefits I now receive. Ultimately, it's not a matter of the money. It all comes down to first amendment rights. Max Nelson says, the freedom foundation's outreach effort is at maximum capacity right now, but leeann coons e with the thirty thousand member, Washington federation of state employees says the campaigns had little effect so far. I'm Mitchell Hartman for marketplace. This final note on the way out today in which look, I'm just going to apologize in advance for my fellow males. All of us Bloomberg asked the market research company to go back through corporate earnings calls, nineteen years worth. One hundred fifty. Five thousand calls were companies report profits and losses to see who talked more on those calls. Men or women. Men done ninety two percent of the conversations in questions were from men. Now that could be because there are just more men in that slice of the economy could be, but it isn't to quote the CEO of the company that did the research male executives provide significantly more verbose answers to analysts questions than their female counterparts. And one could surmise that male executives are more prone to speaking simply to hear themselves speak. So like I said, sorry, really, what I should do is just not that anything. You're right. Just be quiet, just let it end with the music, but I won't. Now down does of one forty, seven and a half percent. "And advocacy organization for example internet freedom foundation again you have to take a party line you have to say network neutrality at all costs they can be no compromise at the research organization you have a privilege which book these other types of organizations don't have and that religious you can have diversity views you can have pluralism pluralism is one of our founding principles so very often people come up to me and they say so what is the is his position on metropolitan what is the isis position on regulation for some policy question like that and the answer to that question is always the same size is like the common sutra we don't have to wear a collection of manipulations so that is the future research organizations that you can have diversity vices now the unfortunate consequence of that is because i have an agent a spy perhaps from microsoft or from corcoran and the cocom spy could enter our organization and then produce research which results in the maximization of shareholder value now that's not even by itself because that is how the private sector works but maximum vision of or called the value to very tight patriots regime very maximalist fit into jim that's not good for the stakeholders that cis the presents similarly somebody for microsoft could come into our position and published reports that say they're all government system should work on microsoft's proprietary software that could be acceptable if we accept any form of diversity but again that does not work for the center for internet and society so we have a constraint on the diversity so you can say whatever you want about any policy topic as long as you perform academically rigorous research but either your conclusion or question has to promote human rights and which covers a full species on this planet if you're unable to protect human rights than a subset of those humans are citizens within national boundary citizen's rights so you have to defend the rights of citizens and a subset of those citizens may have money and they may use the money to buy products and services and therefore they are consumers and they might have consumer lives so therefore your research somehow has to defend consumer labs but unfortunately as you pointed out earlier you can be simplistic about your analysis or your prescriptions because a simplistic analysis of copyright law for instance today might lead somebody to control the to protect human rights to protect the rights of citizens and consumers we should dismantle the copyright regime completely it's only after all five hundred years old so he just dismantle it and all humans will have access to the sum of all human knowledge but what we're really doing is without having a historical perspective rolling back of four or five centuries of incentive mechanisms that exists for clear to people like artists and authors and performers and so on and we have no alternative incentive mechanisms in place then we in the long term be undermined public interest so if you undermine the public interest you simultaneously undermine human rights citizen's rights and consumer rights so therefore in many cases we are looking at what engineers call an optimization problem that are competing imperatives and protect some of those imperatives more naturally but at the same time making sure that the telecom industry for instance has such profit so that competition remains in that industry may also be a goal that you have to achieve apart from now will be protecting the rights of humans consumers and citizens.
