"To the monkeypox virus, the head of the World Health Organization says men at risk of catching the virus should think about cutting back on the number of sex partners that they have, at least temporarily. And meantime, as cases rise in the district, health workers are taking a two pronged approach to fighting the illness. This outbreak continues to grow. D.C. health workers are mostly seeing the spread of monkeypox in the gay community to keep the disease at bay, D.C. health, senior deputy director Patrick Ashley says, the first step is education. This is a very touchy topic, right? We want to get education out to the population that's being affected the most. And we want those individuals to take precautions. At the same time, health workers are on to the second step, removing the stigma, monkeypox is not a sexually transmitted infection. As a gay man myself, you know, I don't want any more stigma associated with this. You know, we've got to balance that messaging very carefully. Gigi Barnett, WTO P news.
