"Kyle, let's get the trivia and hash browns. If you Craig wants to know if we see Bobby wet at all this season and want to know where he ranks in both redraft and keep your formats for next year. I mean, do you want to have the same? Bobby would argument. We just didn't wonder Franco. I mean, do you think he's going to to 62? You know, I think I think Bobby Witt is the opening day third basement for Kansas City next spring. Modesty at short, Nikki Lopez a second. I don't know what to do with their lineup, but I think Bobby would opens next season, a third base, and I'm going to predict something similar to wander except, you know, more steals like that's a 2025 home run guy right away. I think there's batting average risk with wit that there isn't with Franco. But he's going to steal basis. If you told me Bobby Witt ended up 25 25 to 50 next season, I'd buy that. I don't see any chance for saying this year at this point. It's a damn shame. But what are you going to do? Uh and hard is there room They have to play modesty and might be the case on opening day next year because I want to the heart wants to give you a big hug and say, I love it. And the brain says I can see some service time manipulation. He doesn't give you the full 1 62 games on the schedule and takes a little time to get acclimated to the majors. Kind of like wander. Franco did. And at the end of the year you overpaid for him. I don't see him on the top hunger right now. I would agree with you. I would not rank with top 100 right now, whereas I have Franco like 40, but Bobby Witt. I mean, I want to get him in the middle of a house next season. That's a star. And that's the problem. You won't you? You're not getting him. You're paying 70th overall to get you have to. Yeah, you'd have to take them in the seventh 30th round. If you're doing it early draft in the off season and a redraft Lee, who is a ppd think would be more palatable him or wander. Next year and redraft out Who do you think you're more likely to end up with at cost? Franco. Probably Franco. But if I have to take him in around, it depends like if I'm sitting there in a draft in mid March, and it's wander versus like, who's an established like a gold dinosaur. Our not established are really tough to avoid established start, but like I believe in Franco, too. By the way, major difference between the two Franco will be a number two or three hitter. I know it's not wake up about six or seventh. It could be six or seven Aeneas any really terrible power ball park, So it's those Bronco but 6/7 in that ballpark? Yeah, no, I agree. All right. Last question here comes from chip. He wants you to compare and contrast the NL Central third baseman moving forward and hes in India. So India will go in the next year is the second base only. I believe and man he should win. Rookie of the year. Jonathan India. What a great season he's had, um, scoring runs. Lots of power. Great year. I did not expect that from Jonathan India. I don't want to say I avoided him, but I just I just didn't buy it. And the Reds told us this was going to happen. They're gonna move Suarez short, man. I mean, you think India over Suarez next year stars cannot hit for average anymore. Brian Hayes, Man to Pennsylvania Third Basement two of my biggest bust of the season. I have a league where I protected Alec Boehm and Brian Hayes. I got nothing out of these guys. Nothing. Then I'm protective on this league for next year. Hayes is leading off now for Pittsburgh. What that tells me is they don't think he's gonna hear from much power. That's what that tells me that the support he is. That's not his game, but I thought 20 home runs I thought, like 18 to 22 home runs was legitimate for Brian Hayes this season. I think double digits still is going forward, but I think that could end up being his ultimate ceiling. You don't see too many third baseman with this profile? No, but I think he could be. He could be the inverse of Matt Chapman, where he went funneling everything into hitting for power sacrifice in the batting average. He could be more contact line drive oriented, better batting average, less power, but amazing defence to Matt Chapman saved his season. He's got double digit homers in the last 30 days. He's gonna end up with like 32 33 home runs. I would say next season, though. Don't you have to take India over Hayes? India's clearly Cincinnati's leadoff hitter. He has more power. Yeah, I mean, other line up to with his 35 home runs batting right behind him is the honest that professional history of 3 75 or better or on base percentage, So I agree locks into that number one spot, So I have a lot of shares of him and I remember what I said on the show that I didn't think he'd Maybe that star kind of player. I look at this line and I don't say that doesn't look like a massive star, but it amounted to a very good fantasy season. Does he exceed that? Probably not, but he's probably within range of it. I think he's the know what you get kind of guy. Yeah, This might be the best he He's the number 11 2nd basement on the full season player Greater So he still behind by S and Brandon loud But man, Rookie. Great season. Yeah, with you there. I will circle back to trivia here. Top three infielders in slugging percentage since the All Star break, Who you got? Certainly Votto rodders Number one. He's an easy one. Well, thank you didn't diminish my achievement them off. I'm going to demand this year until you get all 33 for three. So you only get three guys is trusting however many you need. Gosh, I mean, can I keep guessing until? Yes, I'm thinking I'm thinking out like I had. I had a whole bunch of outfielders for them. Certainly C J Cron is obvious. She did. Coronas number three. Who's number two. Tristan, You're gonna guess any names. You want to get all three. Eric, you're banned from guessing right now. Oh, boy. Oh, boy. The first guy was negative Was Hunter Renfroe as an out Freddy Galvis? No, it's probably not ready, Galvis. Oh, yes, I'm sure he's qualified. I have two yeses.

Imagine having a run out of the bullpen when you know that basically nothing is going to come of it bogus, one of the biggest waste of time in sports, but Hollander sold it well. Um, but I will say this, though my favorite part of this. The video of this of this not fight is Freddy Galvis actually gets picked up and carried away by Vlad Junior. He picks him up and walks him away from the scrum. So we didn't get punches. We had this stupid running for the bullpen. You're right. Those guys should fight in the outfield. They should not come into the infield and join the full fight. They should have a secondary brought by themselves out in center field. That's where they should be fighting. But at least we got one man picking up another grown man and carrying him away from them, not fighting. Absolutely. And that is your sound check. And by the way, a couple those guys had up open wearing jackets. It's June enough, we get it. You need to keep your arm or Shit. That's so stupid. "Let's think warm thoughts Rock. Yes, As far as I mean, look outside, could Lord van but it's soon spring training is right around the corner. Opening day will be here for we know it. Hopefully things will be allowed to happen this year will have some sort of real opening day fans in the stands and and God willing, the baseball team will be good as well. We can hope Well, let's talk to Ah, our good friend from the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati dot com. Bobby Nightingale. So, Bob, let me ask you first off. What do you know about opening day? Are they going to sell tickets or they're gonna be people in the stands. What do we know You haven't heard anything official just yet, But I know all season they've been planning to have fans. I mean, I think the red look at it the same way. You know the Bangles were able to get, I think 12,000. Men. If you do use kind of the same percentage that would put them around 1000, So I think they're operating with that belief that they should be able to have around. You know 15,000 fans for game? Uh, once the games there, get going here in April. Let me ask you this, Bob. I know there was a couple weeks ago that the state of Arizona what wasn't allowing what has some restrictions Because of covert. Are those fine now is spring training, gonna open on time and going without a hitch or what? Yeah, they'll be. Basically there will be fans allowed at the complexes, but otherwise I think fans there Two degree. I mean, they will be back stadiums, but like the Red Stadium will be allowed to have over 2000 fans were there. I think it's around 20% of what the usual capacity is. So the B is normal is things aren't almost five days out there. And way have they moved all the games to night, and it is for a spring training goes that mean historically, that's always been been played during the day. Yeah, That's mainly a red thing. The Reds are the ones that have they have 15 night game there some teams. I think Cleveland Indians only have two. So it's more of a rest decision. And I know just taking from David Bell in the past. This is something where he's kind of mentioned like It's weird and spring training. You have all these guys on the morning schedule. You get guys you know, waking up at 7 A.m. and working out in the morning and then when the season starts, you have to just do a night schedule. So I wonder. I have had a chance to talk to him just yet about it, But I'm pretty sure that would be one of the main reasons. Just the fact that Guys be on kind of a normal night schedule. They could just right into the season instead of waking up every morning and Arizona and then getting ready for the season that you just play a bunch of night games. I would not get from the inquire joints and Bob give us your kind of opening thoughts on this team, you know, last year Yeah, there was in a way, picked the one of the worst years to go all in the other. Spend some money got some players, Trevor Bauer, of course and Yeah, And then it was just a weird season and started late with was a condensed season and the offense for the Reds got off to a horrible start. I remember and and was spotty. So it's like certain guys were hitting a certain times. When other guys wonder could never really put it together and and and kind of in a In a bad way with that was a 21 straight innings without scoring. What? What's your What's your outlook On this season? Bob? Yeah, I felt like last year they were built for 162 games. They had a lot more death, and this year's team's gonna have, uh, then obviously think that shifted on him, and it turned into a spring in seven marathon and I think that hurt them. I mean, obviously, they're kind of reliant. They're betting on those hitters bouncing back. I mean, they really haven't changed their offense other than shortstop, which is still there. Big question Mark. You know, but take away Freddy Galvis, and they basically have the whole offensively had last year. And so they're just counting on those guys to hit whether that's the right decision or wrong decision. That's the best they've made. And then, as you mentioned Trevor Bowers done right, so, Iglesias, the closer is gone. So there's a lot left up a lot of let's proven deaths and you're starting rotation and bullpen. You know, that has some upside. But also I think there's a lot of concerns about how much depth they actually have. Uh, you know it hurt them. Just the fact that the National League Central kind of the mediocre division in the National League and you know, no teams really stepped forward to kind of take command of it. And you know if this was last year, I think I think the resident by far the clear favorites to win Now they're just one of the teams in the back. Well, you and your prediction in the Inquirer since the FBI commas Well, is, um 77 wins your thoughts on that, because, uh, 77 8 gonna win intermission. No, And I think that I think it's the depth that bothers me. The most is just one of those things, you know, say au hand before it gets hurt, or say a few guys in the rotation get hurt. I mean, Sonny Gray was turned up at the last season. Wait, Miley missed most of last season..

"It was anger that night. 90 seconds away. And that happened. A fumble. Is gonna happen. Part of playing the game. What happened with Vontaze Burfict and Adam Jones was a lack of discipline. That angered me. Would put on my list of things that have anger be. I would put the firing of Tony Perez after 44 games that wasn't sadness or depression or disappointment that was anger. About how it Mickey Mouse that was to fire Tony Perez after 44 games. You've been let down. You've been disappointed. What's the angriest? You've been with your team, but that was a great question on Reddit. Let's go to the phones were knee deep in the Red Sea conversation. Ah, I want to get into something that sports nation wrote about Tom Brady coming up at 808, but it's not about Tom Brady. It's about sports figures here, but let's go. Here to the phones and mark. Welcome to sports talk. They don't land. Good. How are you? Great need to be come off the ledge a little bit. Yeah, I need I need I need a couple of drinks that pulled me in and give me a drink. You're ready. You're ready to jump. It seems like man. Sometimes I feel the same way because we're Stephen ticket holders. Actually, we were We just cancel because of all the things that are going on. It's shenanigans right now, but There are a couple things everyone compares the red to the Cardinals. You can't do that, right? I don't know. I mean, wide. I mean, they're in there. They're in the same division. They Yes. You know, you can compare them because they're in the same division. But you can't compare money wise and you know, I'm not gonna compare. I'm gonna compare him philosophically. Right. So so if you're if you're cardinal fan of your red fan, obviously growing up in Cincinnati, and I love the red, but Don't compare us to the Cardinals because they have more money to spend because they have their Sam bases. Three million. Plus, we're lucky to get two million Well, but but you understand part of that, But you understand part of that is a lack of consistency of winning here compared to a more consistent winning there, But I think my main point on the comparison is the lack of identity. The Reds don't know who they are. The Cardinals know exactly who they are. I agree with that. I do agree with that. But when when it comes to spending money, you know, the Reds are not going to spend money even when we have when we have more fans when we have winning Hmm. We have fans coming out even when, like 2010, 11 12 13 14 when we were having winning teams Fans weren't coming out and they still they're not going to come out. So it's a long term basis. Correct. Ah, yeah, I think it be. It's a tough ask when you've had losing seasons and 16 of the last 20. Right. So that's what we've been doing this for 20. Plus years when we probably said we've seen enough if we want to go to a game, we're gonna go by single ticket. What makes it easier for? So here's the question. I'm gonna ask you a question. They're going to try to answer it myself. So Well, what would you do to make this team better? Or if you're not if you have been improved team by going out and getting somebody what you gonna do? Make this team better. You're gonna move things around or you're gonna try to be creative. What you gonna do? Because you're not going to go and spend money. We've already said that. They only have so much money to spend. Right. So what are we gonna do? Let's try something different. Maybe loosen veil back then. To move swirls over to shortstop. No, no, no, Wait Now! Wait. Now! Wait. Now we're doing now. Well, now we're all buddy buddy. Hold on. This isn't fantasy baseball, but But let me let me let me give me one second. Let me come up with the right. Everyone came up with this scenario. Word was horrible. Plan. Third base. 21st start playing third base. Yes. Turn. Oh, well, he started playing shortstop. He moved from shortstop. That's right. You start playing shortstop. He wasn't a good shortstop. Removing the 30 wasn't a good short their third baseman, either. He played terrible up there. Big 21st got there. So he learned how to play third base? Yes. And so you want to do what with him? I certainly if you're going to if you're not gonna if you're not gonna play in all women, anyway, Your goal is not the win because you have to spend up money to go out and go get it. Shortstop. Do something different. Whether it's move him to shortstop moved. Unveiled a short stop. Okay, let me let me answer both of those. I'm running out of time. Let me answer both of you. Let me answer both them real quick, and then I gotta run. Um, you hate swear he's played shortstop £30 ago. £30 ago. Nixon Zeliff Nixon's L was a capable option at shortstop. The Reds would not have played Jose Peraza in 2017. They wouldn't have played Jose Iglesias and 20 or 2017, Jose Iglesias in 2019 or Freddy Galvis in 2020. They would have done any of those three things because they would have used their top prospect of shortstop if he could play shortstop. But he can't and thinking he should and wishing he should doesn't make it happen. They're not going down. Spend any money, So I don't know what I don't I don't want that means I gotta go. I don't know what that means. I don't know. I don't know. I don't get the A plus B trying to equal see because they're not going to spend money. They should just put scores at shortstop or put Nixon's L. A shortstop. I've explained both stories played shortstop £30 ago. What he was £180. Nixon Zeliff. He was the shortstop. Everybody wants it to be. Why the hell did they have ferocity Lay there for a year. A Glazier has played there for a year and and gang claimed gallows for $5 million and play him there for a year. Would you just play their top prospect there? But he can't play shortstop. Been there done that..

Because I want to talk some reds that was a solid hour of baseball from 6 to 7. It was predominantly Hall of Fame. Lets do reds Now you've had a chance to let it sink in and process. The fact that Marcus Simeon is out Andrelton Simmons is out. The Korean Star shortstop is out. Freddy Galvis is out. And the Reds are currently out a shortstop. We know the issues with the offensive year ago they hit 2 12 1 of the worst offenses in the history of rights baseball. We know what the obvious upgrade was for this team in the off season to get a shortstop. The musical chairs We talked about last night it spends and it spends in it. It stops and seats or grabbed, and now it stops and and the Reds are or left looking, and they don't have anybody. Phillies also need somebody. That leaves Didi Gregorius as The loan for the most part, the lone free agent option at shortstop. They're certainly trade options is a possibility. But I think we all agree and the Reds have made this clear. That's why they're pursuing shortstop Jose Garcia. They love him. They just don't love him enough Right now. The put him in a position to be in everyday shortstop in Major League baseball in 2021. They didn't really want to do it last year, they eventually had to. They did it, and it was tough to watch. It's got a glove. There's no question about that. He batted 67 times. Last year, he struck out 26 times He hit 1 94. He played in 24 games. He walked once. You want once in 24 games. Again. They love him. Perfect, perfect world. He is their opening day shortstop of 2022. But no team with hopes dreams, aspirations of being in contention in 2021. Is going to feel the team with Jose Garcia at shortstop. The young man has not taken in it bad at double A. He hasn't taken it back at Triple A They jumped him from high a last year and three men. The deep end of major league baseball, double A is the most important development level of a minor league baseball player. He blew right past that to the major leagues. Kyle Farmer. Everybody likes He's not an everyday shortstop. He's just not. I mean, they nontendered him to begin with. They sign him to a split contract. He makes exit the place in the majors this year he makes except spends a place in the minors This year. He's versatile. He can play multiple positions, but he's not an everyday shortstop, and he certainly can't hit well enough. He certainly can't hit right handed pitching well enough to be considered a legitimate everyday shortstop in Major League baseball. Oh, by the way, he's played Ah, just short of 90 innings at the position, and he will be 30 in the upcoming season again. If you have hopes and dreams and aspirations of a contending in a division you don't have Kyle firmer as your everyday shortstop. So riddle me this Batman. One million and Roten's We have Moag zesty would say We've got action and Andrelton Simmons to the twins. I will say this. The 10 million for Simmons is closer to making sense to me than the 18 Million for Simeon. Hey, God bless you. If you want to give Marcus Simeon 18 million, And then there is a suppose there's a chance. He's more of the 19 or the 2019 version, who finished third of the M V. P. But the track record says that's the out liar and the rest of his career. He's a tick below an average major league player who strikes out a lot. And whose defense isn't all that great. "Sports talk great to have you with us on this overcast and cloudy day here in the tri state with rain and possibly snow moving in so Look at it this way. We have that to look forward to, and if it's going to do it, why not do it other than a communique? And wouldn't it be nice? It. Wouldn't it be great if this were the middle of July, and it was baseball season and We could all go to the games. What we don't know about that. Yet. Baseball doesn't know about that. Yet. There has been a reticence for a lot of teams to sign Big League contract's reticent to sign free agents. The budgeting for a lot of teams is very much in limbo. San Diego is out signing players like you know, they've got money to burn, and in some cases they do. San Diego is loading up, but most other teams have been judicious in whom they sign. Including the Cincinnati Reds. Now let's face it if you look at the Reds right now, even in a week, National League Central Division you're probably asking yourself, okay. What's the pathway to get to a division title? Trevor Bauer is gone. Trevor Bauer is gone. He was your race. He hasn't signed anywhere yet, although the Los Angeles Angels seem to be the latest destination for him. We'll see. But here we are, hopefully three weeks away from the start of spring training pitchers and catchers reporting In just three weeks. Rotation right now looks to be Luis Castillo. Remember that rumor that pop last Sunday? Castillo is going to the Yankees. It's a done deal on this, and that never happened. Did they talk? Sure did they think they were going to get more than what they were being offered by the Yankees? Probably. Is that the reason why he's not there? Absolutely. You have Luis Castillo and you have Sonny Gray. And then after that What you got. Paranormal. He's been around for a while, but he can pitch he could throw. You knows how to navigate through a major league game and navigating through a major league game anymore. For starters, about five innings Wade. Miley. Yeah, he's older, but still knows how to pitch. He may not throw, but he can pitch. And you've gotten Ensign, who was bounced back and forth, at least on the Depth charts between the bullpen between starting between being 1/5 starter between being a closer Lorenzen probably would be best left in the bullpen, but that still leaves you at least one and maybe two other spots to fill. So the Reds have been busy in the last week, signing pictures, not starting pitchers at best depth for their bullpen at best players that come here on the come Hoping that people like Kyle Body and Derrick Johnson, who are you have a long track record of working with pictures that haven't worked other places and spending them into something that can be useful. Siano Perez left hander the Astros had him and traded him. Hector Perez, a right hand of the Blue Jays had him and traded him like Seattle Perez here to the Reds this week. The pot's at best. They're both just bullpen guys. If indeed they even make The roster coming out of spring training. I think a lot of what's going on really now. And this is going to sound nuts. Because if you've watched the red well, it wouldn't be the first time I said something like that. If you've watched the Reds over the course off the 60 games last year. The name that I keep coming back to For this this this pitching rotation as a possible fourth starter who knows, maybe even a third starter. Is TJ Antone. PJ Antone. Out his fastball in his curve ball. I'm not going to get deep into sabermetrics or new metrics that baseball has next gen stats and all that. There's a big premium right now on spin rate. Everyone who wants to know what's the guy's spin rate on a curve ball on a fastball? And for most of his time leading up to last year's shortened season. TJ Antone's spin rate was at best pedestrian. It went off the charts last year and his appearances. I get a feeling that it's nothing more than that. It's nothing more than looking at the at the stats with sabermetrics and what he did last year. That he could be. Somebody that just comes out of the blue to the average fan, Not the Red's not the body, not to Derrick Johnson out of the blue. Have a pretty big you. Pretty big year pitchers and catchers of his report in three weeks. The big question with the Cincinnati Reds and we're going to get into this as we progress on through the next three hours. Plays shortstop. Pretty. Galvis is still out there, but they've cut and run from Freddy Galvis. There's still the three big names and free agency Marcus Semi and DeeDee Rig aureus L dropping Simmons. Jose Garcia remains in the system. But Garcia in 68 plate appearances in last year's shortened season. He's whipped 26 times with 26 times. Walked only once that is most experienced before spot play last year and again a 60 game season was no higher that advanced able So what about Simeon Gregorius and and Simmons? Because I think from those three you gotta find your shortstop there. And my guess is that's exactly What Nick crawl on his staff or up to right now they're not rushing out to sign any of those three. They may want the market to set itself After one signs. They may all sign. I mean, other than Simeon. Who has just under a nine war wins above replacement terrific player who had a offer your last year. Little bit simian. They're all Gregorius and Simmons are about the same Simeon. 2 23 is on base percentage last year was 305. I'm not going to get into the rest of the stuff that that I like. But it may make if you're not into baseball, math, you may make your eyeballs roll in the back of your head. But in 2019, this guy had to 85 drove in 92. What's his problem that why is he out there while he's 30? You also made $13 million last year playing for the Oakland A's. I doubt seriously unless this process goes deep and by deep I mean well into spring training, I doubt seriously if Marcus Semien and is going to be looking for anything less than that..

"Nice right now. 513749, 7000 and 1 800 big ones. I I asked you this I could accused of being pessimistic about the reds and actually, if I was If I was pessimistic about the Reds, I wouldn't even be bringing this up. Because what they would have done this offseason wouldn't have mattered. I actually think they've got a shot to be pretty competitive. With a team that You know, as most of not everybody, by any stretch certainly know Trevor Bauer two guys in the bullpen, but with the guts of a team that Was here last year. And we thought before last season was gonna be pretty good. And you know, maybe over full 162 games late, they would have been really good. But It's I think we walked away from last year going. You know what this team is? All right. It needs help. It needs offensive help. Um, and they haven't gone out and gotten I gotta be honest with you of the short stops that have been mentioned. I'm not sure any of those air huge major Offensive upgrades. Probably a little bit better, at least than Freddy Galvis. But Marcus Simeon had one really, really good year. Other than that he's Been a slightly better version of Zack Cozart. Um, D d Gregorius had some really deliciously good seasons with the New York Yankees couple of years removed from them. But Is it simply going to be a matter of hoping that some of these guys who hit poorly in 2020? Hit better in 2021. If that's the case, that is an enormous credit to a lot of those players, but In terms of what the front office has done. And what I would think would be considered a critical off season. Well, you're within this window that you're trying to win. They've done nothing. Nothing. If you want to, like, you know, use the excuse of well, they lost a lot of money last year, and they're not going to make us much money this year. That's it. That is a business thing. It might be the right business decision to not add to the team. That payroll. Keep everybody else intact. But from a baseball standpoint. Can you really look at this year's team? And feel better about Their chances compared to last year. When they were all right. 31 to 29. I struggle with that I I struggle. I struggle with thinking that this team could take what it did last year and build upon it. I was asked after the Reds lost the two games in Atlanta. What was this a successful season? And my response to that on multiple platforms was asking me at the end of the 2021 season, because if it's used as a jumping off point, then yes. That was a step they had to take. Let's let's get to the postseason first and then go from there. Question is, can they go from there as currently constructed? I gotta be honest with you. "You look at another death will be Kansas City again, one of the legitimate small markets in baseball, But they've gone out this winter. They find Mike minor two year deal. You signed Carlos Santana to a two year deal on and that's his owners. Isn't John Sherman the new order? They're deciding here? Look, we're going to put the money into the franchise. I I try to not be overly sympathetic to the owner's, largely because they made money, so the league made money. Every year from 2003 to 2019 and made a lot of money. It also did things like so and will be advanced Media actually be damn text for $2 billion business. That money never really made its way down to the field. But if you look at a situation like the red Where they were going to run their largest payroll ever last year Now they didn't end up spending all of that money because the players Hate played for a pro rated salary. So the only ended up sending about $50 million in payroll, but They also didn't bring in anybody the stadium. They have a very small local TV deal. They didn't get the revenue sharing. I'm sympathetic to the idea that seems in certain situations. Will look to lower payroll. We've seen that same Lewis as well, and that's another team where, when they were so big draw so well that that's such a large part of their revenue plants. Have to have no fans in the stands for a year takes takes a bite out of you look at the Reds, making all those investments last winter expected to draw 2.12 point two million with a winning team. They made the playoffs, but they can't even benefit from that this year. That's that's the baseball player, right? You play well one year and then get people excited, and you bring him to the park next year. I do think that there are teams How are particularly hurt by the pandemic that panics Don't really fit our usual models of talking about this time, a little more generous. To certain ownership groups and certain teams than I otherwise might. The Reds need a shortstop. I mean, there's no question about it. Freddy Galvis is I mean, they've moved on d d Gregorius, I think is still sitting out there. Marcos emptiness still sitting out there. Um, and draw to Simmons is still sitting out. There are DEA any of those have fit here for Cincinnati? I mean, I would think that a simian in Gregorius, you know, might be a little pricey for them. Really All of them are none of them. They're gonna be particularly frightening and Victoria's coming off the one year Hello deal with the police. He was good, but he wasn't great. You look at Simmons coming off an injury plagued you're probably the best player of the four because he's still a very facility. He's what people think. Omar Vesco's. He's the second best defensive shortstop on been sending in, you know again. Had a big year in 2019 wasn't good Last year, you can get all of these guys. You know, let's for much less than they would have cost you a year ago because they're coming off the bag years. And, of course, all the other things we're talking about here. I've loved stemming and has a fit. I think you get him on a two year probably to 18 to 22 22 something like that. And you walk it in for two years in the hopes that Jose Garcia develops and he could take over in 2022 23. I should say Garcia was pushed up last year. He's certainly not ready. I think you've got to give him at least on the figure under my such stunning a two year deal, any of those guys on one of those types goes back to deals with work. In the end, you could always bring back Galvis on what probably would be, You know, one year for million Dollar deal, There's really not much more market. Uh, but this is this is a situation that can be solved with money and was not a whole lot of money again. I don't think the wreck havoc, understand? Speaking of which, when D D Gregorius joined me Tell me about a month or so ago, We talked about a variety of issues, and, of course, freed and see was first and foremost for trying to figure out what was on his mind. At that point, I talked to him about the process What he's looking for. In his memories of the Reds. Here's the former Could he be future again? Red shortstop Didi Gregorius. You are a free agent. What will go into your decision on where ultimately you play baseball in 2021. Let's say Something that they're a good team and a team that wants to win. So I think that's what I'm shooting for. You played for David Bell when you were in the red system. Did you enjoy your time in the red system? You you were signed when you were 17? You are a youngster. Then what did you think of your time in the Reds organization? I had a really great time when I was there. You know what? They were the first team to give you the opportunity to come to the stage and play so You know, I always thank them for that and described that time against local. So I mean, I had a really great time playing, got to know a lot of people and had a really good managers, any coaches and coaches, So I mean, and that they helped me a lot to improve my game T o till today, you know, so I talked to some of them toe. No. You always need that little reminder What to do to keep staying on their good fat? Did he take me back September 9th 2000 and 12. What do you remember about your mate? Your first major league hit? Whatever you know, I know it was the infield hit. Sure, ground really short and in the hole. That was when I had a little bit of speed. You're in the starting lineup and your bad in between Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto. What? What? What was that experience like it as a major leaguer for the first time. You know, it's funny, You know, I always joked around with Brandon. You know, he talked a lot and We kind of tell always told that I have fun and play the game the right way. You know, soon as I said in 2011 when I was in a big league camp, so hey, helped me a lot. Coming up, and I talked to vital a little, but he doesn't talk that much. But I talked to him a little bit, but it's always good to know T here everybody's story and how they got there and all that stuff, so that's always a really good stuff. You know, because you're a free agent. I have to ask. Are you open to possibly coming home to play for the Reds? I'm open to listen to anything. That's the thing. So anything that's good. And that game Dr. Been trying to do everything? Yeah. I mean, I listen and see what they have to offer. Have dollar talk so ever known. Have they shown any interest in you either to you or to your agent to this point. To the agency. I think they talked a little bit. If I could be a go between in the negotiation, just let me know. DD, all right. Didi Gregorius when he joined the last month, talking about his future, he is, um he's being pursued by multiple teams. The report from Jim Boulden yesterday was The Reds had expressed interest in Marcus Simeon. As DD mentioned back then the Reds had had contact or at least conversations with his agent. From that standpoint, the Reds have not been tied to a least I have not seen many reports of them tied to our interest in one Andrelton Simmons. We know this. They need a shortstop. I would think DeeDee and the other the other than the factory about DD he was coming off of Tommy John surgery, so I think it's fair to say although he'll be 31 in February. I would think another year removed from the Tommy John surgery. Now, as I say that I don't remember if it was his throwing arm or not. Now, I think about it, but you would think it least he would be more comfortable one more year removed from that surgery. Um He's a guy who makes contact. He's a guy who knows the organization. He's a guy who played for David Bell when he was in the minor leagues, but also keep in mind. They had a crack at him, and he had a crack at them last year at this time, and he chose to side with the Phillies, and by the way, Speaking of the Phillies reports tonight indicate the Phillies are expressing interest with Freddy Galvis. Freddy Galvis was a filly and eventually went to Toronto, then went up with the Reds that the season before so the wheels turn and you would think it's some point. Hopefully, it stops with one of those three. I would say, D. D is the safest I would say. Marcus Simeon is the one with the biggest upside potential, but it's ah A bigger risk because he doesn't make a whole lot of contact, and he's not much of a fielder. And then my fallback is probably Anderson Simmons, who I just did It bugs me that for two years they talked about his ankle. And if he's not the defensive player, he once was that I'm not sure he is much of a help in the mix of one of those three, the other issue Reds related before the top of the hour, I mentioned off the top that Archie Bradley Side today with the Phillies Mark Feist sand of MLB dot com says it's one year six million. Here's what is much as I made the case last night that the Reds need to and much like the Padres did kind of take advantage of the opportunity in the NL Central. How the rest of the division is basically standing down. That the Reds need to take it. It's Prime position more so than any time I could imagine going forward where you're going to have an advantage where nobody else is doing anything to say. You know what? Maybe we hadn't planned on doing much, but if nobody else is doing much, let's do something. It's still it is hard.

"Have the defensive stature doesn't do a whole lot for me. I think he'd be the third of the three if he was still the flashy guy defensively, the Premier glove guy in baseball, I could take his okay offense, But if he's gonna be below it is gonna be a average or tick below average defensively and not give you a whole lot offensively. And I kind of pushed him off to the side. There's the upside of simian, but that comes with not much defense and not much contact. So that kind of leaves this that at Dd. As the high No. I want to say the most logical pick. Of the three But as I say that if he is the most logical pick of the three he then if everybody else thinks so, at that way, he's the first one off the board. I'll conclude with this. If they get either the three again it's an upgrade over Freddy Galvis. Freddie is what he is. And that wasn't enough for this team last year, and it's not gonna be enough for me to roll the dice and go with him again this season, the Oakland A's when they walked away from Marcus Simeon. Could have given him a qualifying offer of about 19 million and they said thanks, but no thanks. And while he was in the M V P conversation in 2019 for the rest of his career, he's been basically a notch below it average major league player The 2019 is the outlier on him. When we come back, you're going to hear DD I asked him about free agency What he's looking for what his time was like in the Reds organization and about any conversations he or his agent of had with the rents and you'll be included 513749 7000. What 800 the big £1.700 on a TNT. We've jumped into some reds conversation will roll with that after news. It's 7 30. Heart radio goes one on one with Neil Sean of Journey to ask if he ever got caught up in the rock star image. You know, I love playing. How about We are. See, Let's go here in Tennessee. Jeff, how are you? Yeah, That's how you doing, my friend. What's on your mind? Yeah. Uh, listen you you just talked about one of my Lago Kluver, the two short stops and serve able. I think they're gold or she's gonna go back to the feelings. What about what about Simmons from, uh, Angels and Siemens from Hope. You see the Red sun and every one of them. I think they'll say they wouldn't shock me if they signed the one that's left. I think it'll be the one that comes to them rather than the one that they go after. I think the the price will determine which one they get. I think the cheapest one is will wind up in Cincinnati, and I don't know. I don't know which of the three that might be at this point. They're all flawed in some way. Um, they'd all be better than Freddy Galvis. But they all have flaws, so none of the three really dazzle me, but they need somebody to play shortstop Who's major league ready? I like to see them. I mean that they shot me. I mean the test Alina's They went in hibernation over the winner. They went in. They went into hibernation and one minute season that that skirt him to death and getting rid of Archie Bradley. I mean, that was stupid. It was stupid. I see him get rid of Of the closer Eric Actually, that, But get rid of Archie Bradley. You know, I've been I've been a fan of reds this year would be it would be in 65 years for me. I've got remember Bill you hear of him? I'm getting rid of you. Don't do that. Hang in there. Hang in there. It'll be all right. Don't don't go getting ready. Remember Bill your memories and tossing them away clinging to your memories, and the memories of the big Red machine has that I've got one of them. I've got a picture of him, honey 1990. That's what but And if you got the you got to pay to get and the runner from it, the running from it, they Jeff. Thank you for the call. They have 78 days to kind of reverse course. Um They like the guys. This thing debate closer. What was it? Nine million? No, no. No Big deal to me. Bradley, probably a bit pricey at 51 considering considering what they gave up bodies, prospects to get him. 51 point. What isn't overwhelming amount of money so that that's probably the the troubling thing of the everything else. The glaze is okay, fine. Um, the Bradley thing. You got a man. If you can't do five for him, then what are you doing as an organization? I'll give you that. No question. Mason the next Stop, Kyle. Welcome to sports talk. How you doing last? I'm very well. Thanks for calling. Hey, First of all, I think that what you said tonight has been right on it. I mean, everything You said about the money and spend a little bit more. What? Whatever. It's been right on, Mike. My question is, uh, Tyler Stevens, and I think that's catcher we have. Despite, you know, put the Barnhardt being a great glove guy. I think Tyr Stevens the future. As far as the catcher. And with that said, I want to know what's really the situation with Trevor Bauer. You know, um Yeah, I want to know what's what's that? Well, let me give you the simplest answer on Trevor Bauer. I'll give you two answers one He will never re sign here, and he will get upwards of 35 to 40 year. Maybe it's a one year deal with somebody else, and the Reds are gonna be able to touch that. Maybe it's the Angels. Maybe it's the Mets. It'll be somebody and it is going to be a couple of truckloads of money, and maybe it's a one year deal or more, but it's not gonna be here. All right. But yes, that makes sense. I understand that ate, but as far as a Sephora's Tyler Stevenson goes, he could be. We could be a Johnny bench down the road left. Now let's pump the brakes a little bit. Remember, he hasn't even played it Triple A. They need. They need him, um to produce, but let's kind of tamp down the expectations for him in his first full season. I don't think you'll be AH, split with Tucker. I don't think they'll each get equal time. I think If there's a D h he could even d h, But let's let him grow a little bit before we start talking, Johnny bench. How's that? I'm good. I understand. All right. Hey, thanks for calling. Thank you. Have a great night. Yeah, there's gonna be some growing pains with him. I know we got dazzled. His first swing of the bat was a home run and the natural then a in the ball came unraveled on the scoreboard was, you know a crackling and there were sparks and flares flying as he rounded the bases. Um he's had a short sample size. He struck out good amount in that short sample size, and he hasn't played a triple A So it's just kind of easy men. I understand why they made a move. I mean, act he's been in like this past year was your what? Six in the organization of your five. This is, you know, fish or cut bait. If you can't turn things over to your pride. No, he's a high school catcher, and that's different. But if you can't turn things over to your first round draft pick, it was a catcher in your five or six of the organization and you got some problems, so they're turning it over to him and part With what? Tucker Bernhardt. How about Let's go here, Doug. Welcome to sports Talk. How we doing, lad? Hanging in there. How about you? I'm doing good. You know what? I was thinking back on the ridge season. I was like I was er season left. It went by so quickly, Right? Well, there there was so little production. It was just like it was, you know? You know, it is a moral excited. There's no doubt Go back and tell me when the Reds have been relevant for more than one season at nine. Well, I'll get I'll give him credit 12, 12 and 13. They made the playoffs and that was back to back years. God. But other than that, Oh, yeah. Absolute was six straight losing seasons after that. Problem, sir. The caller before, said the Reds have been running from the money issue, and I'll say they've been running from that ever since they let Pete Rose go, and they broke up the big Red machine. Well, now, let's be fair Last year was the most money they've ever spent on a pay on payroll. Well, God may not all agree it is, but you know again, I mean, and I understand you have to take a step back. Uh, you know, you know, Still not knowing how many fans we're gonna let into the game? I mean, I could play. You understand that? You know, But you know, the Reds are also you know, in competition out with soccer program how much of that was something I was gonna ask you. You know anything about the upcoming FCC? Season. And Do they have? There's somebody like you that will be talking about Her program and really bringing that to the forefront and Cincinnati with this new stadium and everything, uh, talking about him and someone like me in terms of what we don't. We don't have their their game, so there's not like a voice of them or something like that. So that's That zoo all I can offer you at this boy. I mean, I certainly talk about because I go to their matches all the time. Right. Well, I just didn't know how much more they were going to be, you know, doing to bring it. That's a good cook. That's a very good question. And that is ultimately up to them. And I don't have that answer right now. Doug, Doug. Thank you for the phone call. But before you know it that season is gonna be here.
