"Despite being topic of conversation on Monday. The chargers have not officially decided to move on from quarterback Philip Rivers Charter. Still working through their options right now. Those options include finding a new quarterback franchise tacking rivers or allowing him to walk in Free Agency. And see what offers you can get from other teams this coming on the heels of a season during which the team actually discussed benching rivers the franchise tag is a one year deal at holds the players rights with a team. This prevents the player from becoming free agent. If they can't reach a deal tag gives the team the ability to keep that player and work out a deal. The tag does come with a steep price. At the quarterback position is expected to come in at around twenty seven million dollars for twenty twenty. The giants have hired former Cleveland browns head coach Freddie Kitchens. Everyone says you gotta treat it like another game but just the way that he actually did it. I was right up close and personal picking up everything I could and seeing how he went about his business and everything. Obviously it worked out the other times. I was there with him. Browns Make It Official

"We will start with the official news out of Cleveland Scavenge to ban skis hired by the browns. They announce officially on Monday. He's thirty seven. Spent fourteen seasons as an assistant in Minnesota but has never been a head coach at any level level his entire. NFL coaching career. As I mentioned has been with one organization the Minnesota Vikings Stansky took over play calling duties on offense late in the two thousand eighteen season. Minnesota ran the ball. Forty seven percent of the time with Danske asked the play caller. That's the second highest rate in that span trailing only the Baltimore Ravens was introduced at a press conference just a little while ago. I the foremost success starts with people and I know we'll talk a lot about culture but it is absolutely about the people and everybody knows the Harry Truman quote. It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets. That's the credit and that's what I believe. We have in our building. We have great people. I know we're going to add to it will hire G. G. M. here in the next week can or two and we're going to add to this culture that that we're building here and we have the right people and again. I can't stress enough. How excited I am the be? Just a part of did you know to use a basketball terms to my dad can understand this. I want to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up then I wanNA share the basketball and let so what else get an easy bucket though smiling over there. WE'RE NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA speak anything into existence right now I can. I promise you that we're GONNA work. I've already spoken to a few of our players already. And that's what I'm about I'm about working and I'm about putting a foundation together the other. We will be methodical about it. We will not skip. Step two two and three to get to four. We're GONNA start in the foundation and then we're going to reinforce foundation Shen said we can build upon it and when I'm talking about this I'm talking about schemes and technique will be diligent about working with our players so that they can develop into the the best versions of themselves and ultimately we're building a foundation for what we hope is a championship. Effort will have a culture of accountability. We'll have structures is in place the players will understand our rules. And what we're about and we're going to demanding and we're going to hold each player accountable. Because ultimately I know this about players they they May Not come out and ask you for that. But that's what they want. Well perhaps the tenth. TIME IS THE CHARM IN CLEVELAND. Stansky is the tenth full time head coach Wjr. The browns have hired since returning to the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine that is the most in the league over that span of the previous nine. None have posted a winning record. Heard and not a single one has lasted more than four seasons continuity and consistency has been a real issue in Cleveland. Victor certainly something they'd like to you see changes to fanciest step in the right direction. In your opinion will I believe he is and I think that consistency where it is important. And right because you put up that list of all the coaches and the coaches that they've they've pretty much funneled through throughout the years can you provide that level of stability that they've been seeking for almost a year in and year out. Can you provide that for their now. The thing I do like about Stansky a fan ski is that he has experience with creating plays for two star receivers and I think that's something that's going to have to translate over to the Cleveland. Browns obviously with Odell Beckham junior junior and Jarvis Landry and having that experience I'm sure enticed of that for an office inside bring him in and understanding that they got to get the best out of these players in the best out of all their play makers obviously nick included In the backfield now is he going to be a leader of men and he is he going to be able to handle. The Eagles and the different personalities is that are in that locker room. Desk the biggest question that still remains to be seen. It's defense gas interviewed with the browns. Before in fact it's believed that he was the first source of politics but Desta several seasons ago and and it didn't work out. Matt you spent time with him as part of that Minnesota Vikings Organization. What can you tell us right? He he was a young quarterback coach at the time. And so when I got there was actually a little bit older than he was which is an interesting dynamic but at the same time. He's been all around that building. You know he's an administrative assistant and when he started there then. He was a quarterback coach. He's I've been with the running backs he's been with the wide receivers so he's been in all the different elements of the offensive side of the ball. He's seen the ups and downs. He's seen how free agency can impact so he's got a great feel feel. He's a great leader. He's got a presence about himself in the other thing that I think that the Cleveland browns are probably drawn to is the simple fact that this is a very quarterback friendly offensive structure that he's presented presented in for a guy like Baker Mayfield that had had his struggles last year. And maybe some confidence issues. Maybe not though. Let's see the press conference the same time. It's a quarterback friendly. There's a lot of play action. There's a lot of movement of the pockets. A Lotta easy throws to be made screen. And then there's like you said that balance forty seven percent percent of the time the run the ball. There's great balance in that offensive structure in for a young quarterback and going into his third year after some struggles. I think this is a great fit for that organization Asian and going back to when they actually made this higher People in Cleveland were telling me that it was actually his run game because we see what he was able to do with Dowling Cook and how he was able to make become a good player to really a great one and he's a central part of that offense that we now see in Minnesota and that was a big part of it but in terms of now Cleveland going forward looking for GM the way it was explained to me is they really want these to head coach and gm to work as one. This is why they moved on. From John Dorsey Percy and Freddie Kitchens. They didn't feel like this was working together. So they're looking for someone who has the same vision and the analytics department obviously is of of crucial part of Cleveland. And what they're looking for a head coach and I think that's why Stefanski became that lead candidate because he's accepting of it. He wants to be part of that and You know I think I saw some reports out there about how Cleveland is demanding that their head coach presents the game plan to ownership and really the way it was explained to me. It's not so much that they want to see the game plan. They just want everyone to be in sync to go over to make sure they're all on the same page headed into the game. Well you can't blame him and and that is something that clearly was not the case. I think you make a great point. It's poor in that somebody come in and be able to work and mold Baker Mayfield but also be able to be the CEO and run this whole organization and have everybody else be accountable. I think Freddie Kitchens might have had one of those two things that went by the wayside outside the quarterback with the hiring in Cleveland. What it does mean? Is that every chair on the head. Coaching carousel is now accounted for. The browns were the fifth and final team to hire a new head coach in the off season. Three of the hires tires Stefanski as we just discussed Joe Judge with the giants and Matt Raw and Carolina our first time. NFL head coaches the other two quite the contrary contrary Mike McCarthy in Dallas Ron Rivera in Washington they will get a second chance or in some cases third or fourth various established. NFL head coaches of of all the five. Who Intrigues you? The most in their new spot intrigues me is Matt Rule. I WanNa see what really transpires here right. He seven years sixty million dollar contract. That's a big commitment big commitment. I mean we might need to think about going into coach. That's it has everything else that they're also saying that they're making a commitment to Cam Newton with the type of style and the offensive structured. That they've set up McCaffrey's there I mean they've got the pieces of the puzzle there now. It's interesting to see how that that offensive structure from college translates to the NFL. which is I mean? There's been guys like chip Kelly in the past right John Harbaugh's price guy. That's been the most successful but that was more of a pro style offense with the most the most recent Kingsbury in Arizona so cliff Kingsbury. Excuse me it's been a mixed bag. There's no question. Let me ask you this just circling back to something you said by hiring Matt rule it you believe this means a commitment to Cam Newton. Can you explain why why I just think that The Baylor and watching their offense of structure and the RPO that takes place that's run pass options and all the different things that they're well versed in and that the Baylor offense has been historically historically very successful with in terms of that offense of structure I just think that that Fits Cam Newton's game very well and so I believe that that's a statement saying look. We wanted to bring somebody in here that you're going to be comfortable in this type of offense of structure and go out and be able to put yourself in a position to have success extent to intrigue you for me. Is Joe Judge my beloved giants. I think well I just think because going into it. Once I saw the Vacancy Happen at the head coaching position I was all right. The giants are GonNa come in here and get either like a Ron Rivera type or even McCarthy and get a guy that will come in and commanding presence. Once he walks into the building and I think with the hiring of Joe Judge just left me like okay I. It felt like the same cycle almost felt like coach mcadoo a couple years ago when you give a guy a shot and bring him in if he can transcend The coaching position or the year. After that when you bring in Pat Shurmur and you try to bring take a chance on another guy. Felt like we're taking another chance on another guy but granted. I must say I loved after the press conference I loved his mannerisms I love. He literally embodied what the New York Giants Football Organization is all about when he stepped up there on that podium Liam so I say that with a grain of salt because I love the press conference and I think he's going to bring something different than the other two coaches did in the past. But I still left me scratching my head in terms of who was out there here in the type of guys that could've came in that building and commanded a present these guys by the way Matt Rule and Gioja Geno. It's not about winning the press coverage but they did rule who was must see TV. I was just watching. He's missing time with the giants. Who so I knew all about? He's got does I think you know obviously recruiting such a big part of being a head coach in college. You don't mean to recruit You know when you're in the NFL. Which is why? I'm an agreement with you. I think that is the most enticing match COPA or at least the situation of the coaches just because you just look at history and making that jump from college the NFL. It's not easy and there just hasn't been a high success rate there. I think obviously he spent a little time with a giant. So it's not like he's

Browns Dismiss GM John Dorsey Days After Firing Head Coach Freddie Kitchens

"Let's get to it Sadly adly mark we gotta start with the browns. How did we get back here? We're back we're back to the bounds being the browns. They have fired yet. Another general manager her Cleveland parted ways with John Dorsey. After two years on the helm the team announced made that move official after it was reported in multiple places. The decision to move on from Dorsey comes just two days after the Brian Brown's fired head coach Freddie Kitchens at the conclusion of the regular season Dorsey had a meeting with. Jimmy has them the team owner earlier. Tuesday the two sides according to Tom Palacio We're talking about possible. Structural changes that would curb Dorsey authorities GM but when the two sides can come to an agreement it was over mark Feels like Cleveland. Even though the better roster is back to square one in terms of dysfunction and just in general question marks about the present and the future and I can't and even begin to understand how you must feel the frustration of well. I'm of two minds because the first is they're just more proof that the browns the constant mode is sort of developing farce. I mean whatever whenever you think that they've turned a corner. They're actually just going in a circle back to where they were before for. And there are a lot of disturbing reports and whispers coming out of Cleveland that the ownership and we know this is not not shocking. Can you think about it. But the but they continue to be very impatient with all their decisions and the people they hire and so the question now and I think that the I've never seen the fan base this deflated because of where they were a year ago at this time. Or let's say seven months ago to now but because it just doesn't seem to matter to most people who they hire and it's too it's too de energizing using to get excited about fill in the blank coach and the from the other side though I will say this had they kept John Dorsey. It would've narrowed the candidate list of who was gonNA come and work with that next team by a lot so I think if you're going to keep doing this but do you agree with that. Dorsey wasn't the guy to be leading the charge. Because everyone seems it to be an agreement that he was a guy that came in the obviously inherited. Sasha's bountiful gifts and had some hits has mrs but had some big hits to me it all feels a little premature to take him out of the equation but this organization has done. There wasn't a straight firing right. They just say couldn't get different visions on how they saw the football operation going full hundred percent. I think they wanted to keep them and they talked about how much they liked him. But John Dorsey is probably very prideful and not going to take what is it what is when you're changing title it also demotion what else is it and the thing is he he. It's hit. It was his decision number one to go with Freddie Kitchens and they they ignored Paul does recommendations of Kevin Stefanski DEEPA. Desta also wanted. Sean McDermott in the past. So I think what they were saying. Was We kind of trust. Paul Podesta's voice in in this at this time around and that's not something that again. It's kitchens fall. It's a soup of Dursey for hiring kitchens more recently. Stunning fall though we were at the owners meetings and at that point John Dorsey was the toast of the NFL. I read them in the top five of my GM rankings. no-one no-one said Oh that's that's too high. I mean like it was very recent who is five. Oh who's right behind him. Thomas demetre was five. Kevin Colbert over three but It is amazing how much talent he acquired in a short time and he's gone but I think they've gotten it wrong so many times of not having the GM and the coach align that act. I do like I like I think that needs to be on the same page. Yes at every time. So I'm fine with it. It's deflating to the point of heartbreak for for Browns fans that last year at this time this job was seen as one of the most coveted in the league with a young talented nucleus. And you're finally going to bring the winter to Cleveland and now it's senior reading reading stories that executives say that's the one place I would not go and you're right back to where you were if some of these coaching tree scenarios were cal Shanahan and has a number of people interviewing with the browns. He was there he's he. He demanded his way out of the building. You got you know the bill. BELICHICK's of the world are going to be telling these guys be careful because yes. It's great for you to go on and get a head coaching job. But the DNA here is that you won't be there. Four hundred as has made it clear in his press conference Thursday that the coach would be part of hiring the GM which sounds weird. But I know that's fine but it means that the coaches ultimately the GM's boss Asif you get hyper and that's fine as long as it's defined ahead of time if that helps them get mcdaniels fancier whoever it is that they want in the door. That's fine it it just makes makes it clear that it's the coach. That's in charge and function and dysfunction always starts at the top and sports and since the has them's joined there on their fifth took over team. They're on their fifth coaching search and seven years and John Dorsey is the fifth different person or group heading up the football operation in that same seven seven year that has to be unprecedented. I mean there are at least just third that work in at least the third that only had one year really which is why

Let's overreact to Week 8: The 49ers are the NFL's best team

"I think that what we want to talk about our vise lows the NFL season so far and highs at this point are the Sansko forty niners it's the New England patriots to undefeated teams and then we want to get into Adam gays who want to get into Freddie Kitchens in WanNa get into the Chicago bears those I probably don't need to say are the lows of the nfl let's start with the great teams the teams that are that are undefeated mic Bosa and San Francisco Forty niners so this was so we talked about this last week where essentially both of the undefeated teams have been dogged by this Weirdo they haven't played anybody and eventually as maze I talked about last week eventually you know this is just the NFL they're beating up on these bad teams because there's just too many bad NFL team that's sort of the way things are going right now there's like five good teams that are quote unquote nice schedule winds and then there's twenty-seven teams who are who everyone considers inferior one AA competition Ravin said that the forty niners host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday they win fifty one to thirteen the panthers where the fifth ranked offense in the NFL all fifteen th ranked defense Nick Bosa three sacks three tackles for loss one pass break up and one interception return for forty six yards the forty niners I I I don't feel the need to say there will jit because we already knew their religion you've written about this this was the type of win that I August isn't very analytical this shuts people up oh yeah I mean this is this is what they call a statement when I think the most points they've scored since ninety three or something like that I saw that today Yup yeah type of win where if there was college they would get like twenty more first place votes this week exactly kind of win they wouldn't jump over the Patriots but it'd be getting close yeah I mean this what stood out to you when you just looked at I mean it was as complete performance you can get it turning that stood out that maybe I mentioned already I mean yeah obviously the defense I think has been the foundation that they've been operating on this year they've -pletely remade that front seven I should say the front the Front Line Nick Bosa you know changes everything default has been good deforest buckner is just playing out in elite level still Eric Armstead has been playing really really well as you know two and then I actually saw Solomon Thomas make a really good play today too I mean they've got guys they've got it reminds me a little bit of the rams of old in one sense that they spent several years of like accumulating talent and it's finding all starting to kind of click together her and their defense is looks like a juggernaut and then on the other side of the ball run game is just so dominant You know we saw we saw what they could do today. Seven Coleman really really good they've got like woman baby yeah they've got like four backs that could that could be their starter yeah they're just really really good so they they control the clock they it's such an old school method in you know it's it's funny because in the in the stage when passing is so much more efficient they're kind of breaking that rule that passing more efficient because when you can run with that level of efficiency in that level of explosiveness I mean it just you don't Oh you don't actually really need to pass that much because they've just been doing it sufficiently my favorite maybe event of twenty nineteen so far is field yates tweeted out most pass attempts prior to first career interception history number one is Dak Prescott number three was Kyle Allen after the game yeah Richard Sherman Seen this yet Richard Sherman quote tweeted that tweet which is I'm so happy to have Richard Sherman back in our lives I talked with a couple of weeks ago but just like the thing where he may be made up that thing with Baker Mayfield I'm fine with it leveraged do whatever he wants he's back in the spotlight he's GonNa Talk unquote tweet field Yates tweets about say element Mayo hundred percent on the rich German experience back to hit a piano yeah I know this is a pro Richard Sherman podcast now I think it's really interesting what happens now in the NFC obviously the Green Bay packers won tonight there are no drew breeze comes back with the saints and they look like they didn't miss a beat obviously you know teddy bridgewater is a very good quarterback while he was aperture breezes he's wearing your mind is the pecking order in the NFC and are the niners significantly above those other two teams man that's such a good question I really like The saints still I think the fact that they were able to do what they did go five zero at bridgewater and just Kinda keep going you know keep them momentum going forward I think they are still one of the favorites I would say you know it San Francisco New Orleans one and the packers just slightly below that but with the way that Aaron Rodgers has been playing last couple of weeks there certainly scary I think their defense has taken a little bit of a step back so there may be not quite as balanced as we thought they were but yeah I mean I think those are clear top three teams there's no question about that and then you could you know make arguments for the vikings or whoever but yeah I think those are like the like the cream of the crop for share in then there's a bunch of other teams speaking of the cream of the Crop New England patriots okay so the stats from the NFL the browns I can barely get throughout the browns had turnovers on three consecutive offensive plays against the Patriots that is the first time any team has done so since week one twenty twelve only the seventh time it's been done since two thousand this is not good if you're the browns we're GonNa get to the browns and are very robust stocks downs section a little bit but this patriots team unfortunately this is not kind of the schedule will win that we thought it was going to be you know the niners get there's the browns are not as good as the panthers the browns have been kind of a disaster but this was just another performance Devin mccourty looks like maybe defensive player of the year candidate the defense he just unbelievable in Baker Mayfield after the game said that the Patriots didn't do anything confuse them they were just playing really well yeah and you you kinda wonder like isn't that the worst case scenario for a team is the they're not doing anything new there just being the crap out of you I mean it was amazing when you think about this patriots defense what comes to mind yeah I think a couple of things going to mind number one discipline that's kind of a hallmark of the belichick teams is just being really disciplined like you know obviously Cliche do your job or whatever that's the first thing versatility you know they're able to play it's

Are Freddie Kitchens and Baker Mayfield Holding Back the Cleveland Browns?

"GonNa go right to the fourth quarter quarter with the browns so they're down for points and Baker Mayfield and the browns run a draw play on fourth and nine and not surprisingly they came up short short then late in the fourth Cleveland at another opportunity with the first and goal from the four yard line the browns called four straight past plays with the last one resulting in an interception from Baker. That is the game for the rams after the game coach Freddie Kitchen said he regretted the play calling late in the game but Baker said it was more than that take a listen. If you're looking blame somebody blame me. Don't blame me of our players. Don't blame any of our other coaches. Just blame me because I can take it all right. So you know just blindly go go rach article and say I must have game up. Go article and say smile faulted. Things not looking like it did last year because it is. I know what you guys are. GonNa try and do is talk about the playcalling they call him but I said executions the most important thing you know whatever whenever we have called we gotta do our job all right Shannon how much blame that does Freddie Kitchens deserve here. There's a lot of the blame because give the office coordinated the coach and he's the play caller. I Guess Bakersfield Dangerous yesterday. Did you wake feeling dangerous. Gear Alexa dangerous lately. He needs to feel the need to wake up feeling danger. Tennessee woke up feeling real dangerous and that they did. Did you know what skipped look. Freddie is learning that that's to wear two hats in the NFL gets a really hard job. That's why a lot of a lot of guys. Just give that up they either just keep the headset on so they can hear everything or they call you like Andy. Reid is very unique cow Shanahan and guys like that a very unique skipped dream to be able to call the plays and be a head cold but Freddie the the thing that's hurting frady is expectations afraid of the head coach last year if they didn't have these expectations but because of the way they played the close out the season yeah and now they add dale they will add alleviate Vernon they they get they get agreement. We've the draft you like who the brow and you see the subtractions in Pittsburgh. Maybe is no longer there. ABC's no longer there yeah yeah and then what week two bengals out so now that really ratcheted up taste so now everybody expecting the browns to be really really good look doc. That's why I say each year in of itself because last year has no bearing on this year and I think the browns players and and fans are starting to realize that Freddie is starting to realize the expectation that comes along with expectations. I'm the head coach because he didn't have a whole lot of experience calling rolling blades. He's never been a head coach so now he's the head coach which means he's the CEO of the operation but by the same token. He's got a call all the plays now. I don't know what the hell call now. If I didn't no but elsewhere Freddie Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Wild Wings coat the fourth and now you can't what the hell is that draw draw play on Yahoo. They were GONNA try to fool Agassi's pass. It got eight yards do remedy it was he ended up seven yards short. I was wondering if I was missing something watching. I'm like wait. Am I getting the goal. You got shows. You got nick. You don't give you one. Kerry now was a live. Let's put back and let's run. It is so you go so you got nick who you save or. I'M GONNA keep everybody happy. I'M GONNA get down. Here's Kevin Jarvis if Catcher Chila. It'll be thirty okay. You give make sure one crack please. okay okay scared. We're told you you keep trying to keep everybody happy to win. Games in everybody's going to be saying 'cause everybody because everybody's GonNa be safe because they nobody's gonna be getting their catches and you'll be losing games and you're going to be in a lose lose situation wages and you're going to be a part of their now that Jimmy and de Havilland. They look like hold on Okay John Dorsey now. We gave you everything everything that you want it. You got a quarterback overall. You got all these weapons. Jarvis Landry got a you got Joel hurt him but here's the things when you you made that trade y'all trash because you got the ninety nine deflategate boy human too. We're talking about the guy who had zero Saxon three the playoff games and it has zero sacks against the cowboys and the Guy who took the Cleveland browns cannot protect Baker Mayfield. They haven't for free games and the Rams took full advantage of that last night. What did I say Friday. Baker Mayfield is about to be in the wrong place at the wrong time against Wade Phillips defense offense that Cap Tom Brady and check for almost the entire super bowl. Am I right about you. Skip in another thing before I let you go. They traded their bust of Islam lobby. Get Out I'll be at the end of the day. You can have all the shiny pieces. You won't skill all these cashier that look nice. You better have a guard or to guard the money now. The money right now is six Baker Mayfield. You got a bunch of predate cashiers. You Got Jarvis and he got dale. You've got all that stuff. I did pillows but nobody protecting the money in his sketches for fifty six yards really the impact the game. Do you remember any of Nope. NOPE nope nope no so given that that was Wade Phillips Defense and right now. I think that defense is even a little better than then. Bill checks defense. That's how good it is because it has more star power to it because to leave did a number on Odell last night. I don't care what you say. You know. They'll get loose down on the field one time he had a nineteen yard catch. It didn't do much okay now back to Freddie Kitchens. I'm not sure he's going to last a whole year. I'm just not sure because bag years kept finding coach in the middle of the how I think it's it's just getting a little darker and darker in Cleveland because remember they have to go go to Baltimore next Sunday Baltimore better than everybody thought in there I think five point underdog there are five and a half actually five and a half point underdog so that the game you better believe believe it or the forty niners three and Oh yes they beffa movie bouquet. The next game is a Monday night game in Santa Clara against against the forty nine. It's Elizabeth game and then the seahawks visit. Seok student looked great yesterday but they did go to Pittsburgh while Rothlisberger played the first half right. They're capable of beating the browns right now because the browns aren't very good right now what if they lose those games and fall to one in six what's Jimmy Haslem going to do with the expectations -tations through the roof of them. He already got one coach. That's still on the pay. Roll can still play a huge. I I know you have another guy on the payroll. Just bring somebody else hears Freddie's problem after the game. He's adopted this new. Oh poor pitiful pitiful me philosophy where he just says you. I'll take it all you know. Get the lay it on me. Don't blame the players blame. Oh Freddie doesn't really look like a football coach. Does he looks more like an offensive line coach so he he doesn't look like the head coach doesn't look like he's in charge and after the Games he's kind of admitting yes screwed that one up and I screwed that go ahead just say well. If you invite the media to run through that door trust me they're going to run through it and trample on you because he is now the easiest target in the national football league. You WANNA blame Baker. Can you not really do you want to blame Odell. No not really how Jarvis no hell out him yes. Yes you know who I want to be right now. I build Danny Jones. That'd be real petty. Okay believe anything you say I'm just saying I can't believe that guy number one he could do that. I don't think he's built. He's built wake ain't skill but you know what I think. Cleveland's defense is really good remember that they had four subs playing in the defensive backfield last night. All four starters were out in hung in and did that I mean I guess why they did it to me. Jared Goff's overrated scale. He's overweight did everything he could. CLEVELAND WON'T DARWIN THIS GAME. How many times do you go on the road and turn it over three times and win the football game you tell me it was three to one and turnovers with l. A. Three to Braley won the Dow many times. Do you get away with them. That's the recipe you want. The best recipe the loser role game yeah. Turn it over thank you. They did that and they still won. One hundred ten million guaranteed right Jared Goff my money yup lots of money so back to quarterback. I love Baker Mayfield old. I'm sorry I got to tell the truth is having a hard time. He's starting to lose a little bit of nerve because he Bolton Fast Komo News. I gotta get out of here. I gotTA get out here. He needed to stand in especially on the goal line and just make one of those rows without looking over his shoulder. It's the Ford downplay. He bolts pockets so fast. I know the play hard off the right. I think yeah I think that's probably a dollar and that was that was ended up being a clay that end up being getting away with the thing is is that sometimes these quarterbacks they look in the bubble instead of stepping up. They look into get outside up that skill once you get outside. Guess what you're doing you telling the defense. Basically I got from the Hash to the side attitude rolling to the every once in a while. We'll talk about Lamar Jackson. You'll get away with a bail out with Obama did you. Did you know you don't make that. You'll go broke doing that. I would agree but Baker. Hey sometimes you gotta you gotTa Take

"Or when you're going unit by unit offense and defense, and we have to drill down to I don't like half of their secondary. You know, what that reminds me of when you're talking about the Rams before last year? It's like we like this. We like this. We like that their linebacking core. I think has some question marks, right? Like that. When you have that complete of team agreeing with you when you are to me, we know they pass rushers we Chris talked about their offensive line as far as skill position unit. Guys pass catchers running back quarterback. I think they will be top five in the NFL that if you have to go to that. I don't want to say it's that small of detail, but that drill down that far. That's a team that should be positioned when their division that should be a favorite to make the playoffs as Vegas has the rounds. And I think as we have the Browns at one thing I'll say about that Brown's offense, and we continue to talk about it all the different pieces that they have they have the ability to morph into whoever they need to be in order to take advantage of the weaknesses the deficiencies of the opposing defense heavy if you look at some of the best offenses, especially when it comes winning time in the postseason. They all have the ability to do that. We were talking about the New England Patriots in the postseason, right? Where everybody's going eleven personnel. They decided they were gonna play big boy football Japanese twenty one personnel to running back and one tied in and look at how much success they had against the chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs. If you're gonna be successful if you're gonna have an explosive offense you have to be able to change week to week based on the match of such a half. Yeah. I'm glad you mentioned New England. You also mentioned the tough period the season when you won your. Super Bowl ring. Because what is Freddie kitchen? You had a good questions. Freddie kitchens. You people just glossed over. It's a real thing. NFL football's difficult. We got a bunch of guys out there with with a bunch of experience. And they struggle for us to think he's not going to struggle. We would be missing what we've watched in pro football. So when they hit that month like New England hit last year when everyone was giving up on them. They had Bella check to Bill stabilized ship. So you got a lot of young bottle players. It becomes important that in that rut, what is Freddie kitchen because that's what the players are going to respect he's going against hardball. He's going against Tomlin. Like, he's at a serious disadvantage from an experience standpoint. So that's something that we just can't give him credit for. Yes. They're talented. Yes, they're very very young. And the coaches young, and we need to see where that's going because that will be one of the story lines for two thousand nineteen season. All right. "And they got the right guy in Dorsey actual veteran hand somebody who I think I forget who tweeted out saying that they were kicking themselves for not listening to draft Terrell Davis as brand right? Yeah. And it was John Dorsey the scout in the room pounding the table for Terrell. Davis is a guy who's got an eye for talent. And they went ahead and they hired him. We had all these pieces. It's all been set up your now, the guy to push the buttons and fill this roster out with the players that we need based on all the. Medicine that we've been taking. And Freddie kitchens. I've never met him waived Adam from the booth the combine because he was out in the Indianapolis sweet for a little bit with Frank Reich. But all accounts, he's the guy who shows up the press conference saying do I have to wear a suit. He all he wants to do is grind tape being that room figure out the scheme with Odell and Jarvis and Baker gets along with Baker. He's not like you Jackson who's going to be like, I'm in charge here. I'm making the rules. It's my way or the highway and then shows up on hard knocks acts the completely different way. He just strikes me as a guy who just wants to grind tape. Coach ball win games Dorsey is the guy who just wants the grind tape where shorts chew gum pick players. That's it. And it seems like it's it seems like they have it right in every way. I don't wanna freak Browns fans. But it seems like they have it. Right. And it's their division to take. They're the best team roster right now top to bottom. You don't win games in March..

"Eight two since we're on the subject here, a mess. And Joe let the division of Procter and gamble Gillette division. They're trying to wipe out toxic masculinity while selling shavers and razors. And maybe you're say-, razors and blades. I wanna I wanna let you hear a a montage. We put together the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. His name is Freddie kitchens. Now, the NFL, by the way, just a little brief aside here for you NFL aficionados, I pointed out this needs to be set again in the NFL is puffing his chest out, and they're bragging. And the sports writers are writing about the NFL ravings on TV. Now, they've rebounded. How they've come back. Isn't that great thing? And there's one guy that made it happen. And they will never admit it. And it's a problem. It's another thing that Trump has done that is great for this country. It's great for an American business. He saved the NFL. There's no other way to describe the NFL was in the process of imploding, when a bunch of leftist got hold of a bunch of activists players and turn them into political billboards. Starting with caper Nick and all the rest of the kneeling and dishonoring the flag and the national anthem and the ratings went south attendants went down. And there was one guy who called them all out on it was Donald Trump, and he kept calling them out. Despite what they said about him. He kept it up the NFL tried to buy silence. The NFL tried to purchase acquiescence the NFL tried to tried to sue for peace by promising payments to various communities for social Justice in whatever. And it didn't make the players stop. And it didn't get rid of the radicalism. It was Donald Trump. Dumping on them. Every opportunity got a couple of owners. There were a couple of owners away in on this gut Salih. And now there are no more signs of this kind of political intrusion in the game. Once again, we've got the championship games coming up this weekend. The biggest topic is football related things, including the weather in Kansas City in the midst of climate change and global warming the high temperature on Sunday. Is going to be between zero and eight degrees. By the way, as little aside. There's very little experience the New England Patriots playing on the road in the playoffs. They normally have the number one seed, so. It's it's hard to factor. The patriots road record in playoffs outside the Super Bowl, which is a road gave her buddy, isn't is not anywhere. Like is when they're playing at home. So it's hard to handicap. The Gabriel in New England New England would automatically get four or five additional points. But I think they're underdogs in Kansas City home team automatically gets three points in the gambling diverse. And that's considered everything equal homefield is worth three points. The crowd the noise and all that. So we'll have to see, but that's the kind of stuff that's being discussed now. And it's all because Donald Trump call them out like every other fan was but no other fan had a national bully pulpit. The NFL was losing fans. They were bleeding revenue and bleeding audience. Because nobody cares about the politics of the players play the game when they're going to dishonor the flag and the country when they make their statements. Let them do it after the game. Let them do it in a post game press conference all they want, but don't tamper with the product Donald Trump. He's never going to be thanked. Maybe a couple of owners who know him we'll privately thing. But he's never going to get the accolades or the gratitude that he deserves because he really did. And I I don't care who has connection fits over this. He really did rescue a business in a distress. Why he has countless other businesses and whole industries that were in distress. No gratitude. So the latest rage in the NFL is Sean McVay, Sean McVay as the head coach of the Los Angeles. Rams. And the reason why is he's never been a head coach before he hadn't. He's very young. He was the youngest head coach in the league. I think what he was hired. Very little experience as a coordinator. In other words, he'd never been high up on the hierarchy of a coaching staff and the Rams took a chance. And he has revitalized that team and he has brought offense firepower back. And so the NFL's are very copycat league. And so everybody has been looking for the next Sean McVay. So a lot of teams are hiring head coaches that have never been head coaches before like McVeigh wasn't. They're hiring young guys who are offense simply minded who have all kinds of supposedly new offenses, tricks and gimmicks. Game plans. You look at the chiefs. Andy Reid is not new but he has adapted to the quarterback. He's got rather than trying to pluck his quarterback into his system. Talk to Donovan McNabb about that. So the Cleveland Browns have done the same thing the Cleveland Browns of hired. Freddie kitchens who's never been a head coach anywhere. And he's only been an offensive coordinator for three months, and that's with the Browns. He is singularly thought to have brought their rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield along to the point that the Browns have done a one eighty. They become a winner. And and Freddie kitchens their record ended up being seven eight and one this year, seven Wednesday losses. One tie of the Steelers, Freddie, kitchen Senate his press conference. I I don't like anybody who's happy was seventy eight and one we're not going anywhere in the post seven eight and one is nothing to be proud of. I don't care if we were all and thirty two before it seven eight and one is not at all what we're aiming for. And I don't want anybody in this organization to be happy with it. Now. Freddie kitchens. A good old boy Alabama. He is the antithesis of what modern feminism and Washington political culture considers to be a good guy. We put together a little montage of, Freddie. I love Freddie, kitsch know him bike. He's done a fabulous job got great attitude. And I just wanted to put a montage together of the press conference where they announced him as head coach. And this is it the letter. I is a letter. It's not a word. And when it's used as a word, you've got problems is we us our two as one and one is none. And we're gonna have a lot of twos. We only have one goal here. And that's the host Lombardi trophy. Am I read or not? I don't know. I don't know. Where are you ready to be a parent? I was a Browns fan when I was growing up I like their uniforms. I liked the simplicity of the helmet. I'm a traditionalist. All right. That's the way I coach that's not the way I relate to people. If you don't involve you're staying the same. If you're staying the same other people are passing you by the funds in the winning, and we're gonna have fun. So in an algebraic equation, if we're gonna have fun in the funds into winning. We're gonna win. All right. And we're gonna have a damn good time doing it. Freddie kitchens new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. And I I think. It's it's it's fascinating. In a league where the people own teams are Uber wealthy multi billionaires, and they're bunch of copycats. So Sean McVeigh. I mean the joke is that if if if you can hire the Starbucks barista serves McVay every morning, do it. That's what a fee on McVay is no head coach experience, very young, but an offensive firepower. So what is McVay? Do. This is the this is the funny. The the great thing all these owners have gone out and tried to hire their version of Sean McVay offense offense offense passing game passing game passing game revolutionize the NFL. And what is this guy doing his first playoff game against the Rams? I guess the Cowboys Iran the ball for two hundred and forty three yards. This was the NFL of fifty years ago. All of this massive pass off it was there, but he did a total one AB. He ran the ball. I guarantee you. All season long. Everybody thinks the NFL has become this massively offensive machine defenses have been weakened. They can't stop offenses fifty one to forty eight scores his final scores. And here comes this guy on Saturday crossing everybody up. Us two running backs to rush for two hundred and seventy three yards in the NFL of thirty or forty years ago. We're just fifteen or twenty years ago. And now you've got oh oh. All these people that did copycat hires trying to find the next Sean McVeigh he crossed everybody up by doing a game plan that nobody thought McVay had any well wasn't gonna use it running game. It's great. And this is the kind of stuff people talking about again with the NFL now talking about concussions or not talking about suicides. And that politically correct crap. That the sports drive by media tried to infuse in the game. And then promoting all of the protesters and the people of malcontents, and so forth. I tell you this Gillette. Add this this this be the best. You can be get rid of your toxic masculinity. This that's what was happening to the NFL that kind of crap was what was overtaking the NFL. And the NFL didn't didn't know enough to stop it. How to stop it? They tried to peacefully get along with it. And if it weren't for Trump calling everybody out on it. I think the whole atmosphere and flavor if those protested kept up. The kneeling head kept up. And if Kaepernick had been hired under duress, even though nobody wants to hire him if they had hired him just to shut down the protesters. It wouldn't have done that. And you'd have an entirely different atmosphere going into the championship weekend. But there's French kitchens the new head coach Brown and. It's gonna be any time. People have never done something. Get a job doing it. That's great for everybody. Resumes are such that you have to have some experience to get where you want to go. But the NFL's hiring a bunch of people that have never done it. But not be head coaches. And I hope every one of them. Does exceptionally. Well, okay. The brazen plot against Trump by the Obama era FBI and DOJ continues enabled by a complicit media. This is. An op Ed written by Victorian. And her husband, Joe digenova. And it basically rehashes. Things that we've talked about for months and months here. About the deep state about this conspiracy about the objective to overturn the presidential election results of two thousand sixteen. The corruption of the department of Justice in the FBI by Obama era, employees, and it really, you know, I'm watching the bar confirmation hearings in every one of these Democrats senators is essentially asking bar they dressed the questions the questions are basically this. Are you gonna make sure Muller gets Trump? Are you going to stand aside and let Muller get Trump? Are you going to interrupt Muller as he tries to get Trump? Are you gonna make sure that Muller won't be fired? Are you going to make sure that Trump can't stop Muller from getting him thrown out of office? Are you gonna stand aside and let Muller finish his job at you going to let everybody know what Muller said at a you're gonna make sure that Trump gets hurt by. That's what every Democrats asking. I don't care what the question is. That's what it really is and bars. A yes..

"Like during the season sometimes more upset sometimes more now and says not the ninety nine I understand. And I relished back that there's been more downs enough. But that ends today are a promise you that. Freddie kitchens wearing a suit to his introductory press conference out. I don't know why coaches wear suits to their introductory press conferences, Peter, it makes them instantly uncomfortable. It doesn't look right. It'd be different. If it was the days of Tom Landry and they were wearing suits on the sidelines. But here's Freddie kitchen all ruffled any suit with a with a ball cap on just let the guy where would he wants to wear? He wanted to wear his fluorescent, orange dogpound sweatshirt. Just let him do that. That's how we're going to see him every week of the year. Let him do that. Now. Hey, look, I I long for the days when when coaches can go on the sidelines looking like Tom Landry member Mike Nolan. Did it that one time would say in San Francisco. I mean that makes a coach look like. Authority figure. He makes them look fantastic. And you know. I tell you this. I wish that some charity would give a million bucks. So that we could see Bill Belichick with a suit on the sidelines. How great would that be if Bill Belichick war Armani on the sidelines of a game one time? I I don't know about you, Mike, but that might be worth a post on profootballtalk. He always looked so uncomfortable in a suit though, I think because these guys don't wear suits when you slap them into a suit. It's like they're on their way to quarter something it just doesn't look like they feel comfortable in their own skin. Because they're so used to being casual it's casual all the time. If it was suits all the time, it'd be different. And I remember Mike Nolan Jack del Rio did it a few times when he was the Jaguars coach he never looked comfortable in that suit. And it's all about it's all about the dollar because the NFL gets paid millions by the apparel companies to slap, these sweat shirts and logos and official merchandise on the coaches, so people. I want to buy it. They're not going to want to go by the suit that Bill Belichick was wearing all rumpled on the sidelines last Sunday against the dolphins. So I miss the days of Tom Landry. But I think when I consider all of the coaches over the years, there aren't many who can pull it off the way Tom Landry dead. No, I I I'd like to I'd like to just say that it's kind of hard to imagine as you say hard to imagine Mike Zimmer putting. Joseph Abboud nice pinstripe on the sidelines in a Minnesota game. I don't know. I look I Freddie kitchens to me. When I saw that. Look, I said man, Freddie, kitchens. This is the last time he's going to have a sued on until they put them in the ground. On. Well, on that happy note, he may not be ready to wear a suit or ready to go in the ground. But he is ready to be a head coach. Here's what he had to say. When asked that question on Monday. So am I ready or not? I don't know. I don't know. Where are you ready to be a parent? I mean, but I know this. I know they had confidence enough in me that I would figure it out not get the job done. And I promise you this. I won't let them down. Look, I expect him to say that he's not gonna come out and say, I'm not ready to be a coach he's not gonna come out and say, I will let them down. But this gets back to the conversation. We had last week when it was moving toward, Freddie kitchens. Are we confident he is ready or is this just a case where the Browns decided, you know, what it's working with kitchens working directly with Baker Mayfield. And we don't want to screw this up. We wanna play this out. We had nothing that's worked over the last twenty years. Let's play this out before we throw kitchens out the door and go make a different higher for our head coach. Mike when Hugh Jackson would sit up and have his press conferences. Even at the height of the embarrassment. Even at the height of oh, even at oh. In sixteen in one in fifteen back to back years. You know, you look at that. And you would look at Hugh Jackson, and he he could look and sound like a CEO discussing the earnings reports. And so I look at that. And I say, what do you want the guy who who sounds right? And who can make everything seem okay, or do you want a guy who's actually doing a job that is helping and making his team win. And that is what this is all about with, Freddie kitchens. And you know, what Mike I give a lot of credit to John Dorsey in this in this search, I will bet you a thousand dollars that the day he took this job. If you ask them to give you a list of the one hundred candidates that he would consider when he finally got rid of huge. Jackson. I guarantee you. They've Freddie kitchens was not on that list. Even admitted that on his original list that pretty kitchens wasn't on it. But I go five lists deep. With with John Dorsey. And there's no way you'd ever think that Freddie kitchens would be that guy. But I'm just telling you that's why they play the games. That's why you play out the season. That's why for years whenever I hear anybody say, hey, you know, what just just? Play for the draft, you know for years and again like in October November I'd start getting emails. Say oh, the Browns are okay. We got it. We got to play for a draft choice. You know, we we want the best possible draft choices. And I'll and I would I would just think to myself. Why do you set yourself up for that? It's like these stupid teams in the NBA that say year after year. Hey, you know, what in two years, we might have a chance to get LeBron. So, hey, let's tank it. I mean, what's what's wrong with these people? And so I look at all this. I look at all this, and I just say credit to John Dorsey for leading the situation play out and getting the right guy to coach's team the right guy for right now. Again, I believe Peter that it makes sense to see where this goes with kitchens. Maybe he does grow into the job who knows? But if it doesn't work where would the Browns be back where they've been every other year for the last ten years looking for another head coach and maybe the next time around. Maybe that's when Sean Payton is in a position to leave the saints, and you can lower him to Cleveland to work with Baker Mayfield. That's why I think it makes sense for this higher to be maybe short term, maybe long term. But for right now. He's the right guy. And we see where it goes with Freddie kitchens, and it could go higher than we ever expected. Because kitchens is coming in for a team that was owned sixteen a year ago, he is not afraid to set the bar high. Here he is on the acceptability of the team going seventy eight and one seven eight one. And it drives me crazy that people were happy with seven eight one. It drives me literally crazy NFL was in a different setting. My vocabulary will demonstrate that but that's not acceptable. Nobody here wants that. We understand that was an improvement. But under no circumstances that ever going to be acceptable. Okay. I get that C. I feel like Freddie kitchens in some respects. Peter is saying the things he thinks he needs to say to play the role of a head coach. And maybe that's part of the game. Maybe knowing what to say and what not to say. In a press conference setting is one of the skills, you need to possess to be a successful NFL head coach. But this idea that seven eight and one isn't acceptable. Does that mean you're going to be eight seven and one or better every single year? And if you ever fall below that you should be fired. So I think that that he's trying to say the things he thinks he needs to say, they should be very happy. They went seven eight one after going one in thirty one the prior two seasons combined. I don't think there's anything wrong with saying we have seen improvement, and we're happy with it. And we're going to be even happier next year because our goal is to continue to improve. Yeah. I do. I would disagree with you on that, Mike. I think he's saying exactly how he feels this guy. Remember, he learned football, essentially, he had his most. He had his most stark and educational football period in his life when he played quarterback for gene stallings at Alabama, whatever twenty four years ago, and so this if you've been around gene stallings, and I have been around gene stallings, he is a good old boy old fashioned core. Coach who that's how he thinks, you know. And if you're happy with seven eight and one go somewhere else, and of course, it's better than one in thirty one. We all know that. But I think the message he not only with speaking to the people of northeast Ohio pretty kitchens, he was speaking to the whatever seventy players currently under contract with the Cleveland Browns that when you come back when you show up on April first, I think April first is with new coaches can I interact with their team. A football way. When you come back show up on April first, I don't want to hear anything about chess being puffed out. And man, we once we won seven games last year. You know, I I want you to understand that basically in two thousand nineteen it's play playoffs or bust. What do you think the other teams in the division? Think about the Browns making Freddie kitchens in the coach are they scared or are they happy? I think if I were them I'd be worried because all you have to do is look at the last. The last seven weeks of the season. You know, when they go five and two five and three obviously after getting rid of, Hugh, but you look at that. And then you look at the way even in the losses. You look at the way they lost. I mean, I ran into somebody who I've known with the ravens for a long time at the final game of the year the arm sorry at the ravens playoff game last week. And and he looked like he was in pretty good spirits, and he said I was a lot worried about last week's game. Meaning I was a lot worried about beating Cleveland then about this game. And that isn't that. He wasn't worried about the chargers. Don't get me wrong. But that is what has happened to the Cleveland Browns right now that people don't look at them as well might be tougher game. But we're not that concerned. We're going to win the game. It isn't that way. At all. You know, if you don't play your game against Cleveland, you're gonna lose. And that to me is what has happened in the last half of the season. You don't Mike I kind of feel bad for Greg Williams. And I think this this isn't a good thing obviously for his career because obviously the Cleveland Browns never intended to hire Greg Williams. No matter he could eat. No, well, maybe went eight no they would have hired him. But I think in general what this means is that they attribute what happened in the last half of the season to Freddie, kitchens and Baker Mayfield. And they did not want to throw a monkey wrench into that progress and one last point before we take a break. The reality is Freddie kitchens now moves from offensive coordinator to head coach. It's a different set of skills. It's a different set of obligations. It's a different Dane and day out reality and kitchens going to have to make that adjustment as well. As he made the adjustment to offense coordinator, if the Browns are going to continue the success in two thousand nineteen when we return another head coach was introduced yesterday. And he was just as uncomfortable. If not more uncomfortable in a suit, Adam gates meets the New York media when PFC live continues. "Freddie kitchens getting a promotion in Cleveland taking over the Browns team. It takes some goods to do what they did. All right. And I appreciate that. I won't let them down. And all you have to do is sit back and watch. All right, because I know that I'm not a popular choice understand that. And I don't care. And in reality. I meant what I said if you're not wearing Brown and orange all right? Occasionally a black. All right, then. You've got to block out the noise in this business because the noise is what gets you in trouble because you start making decisions based on things that do not pertain to winning in. Appreciate Mr. day. Miss has lem and everybody else that chose this coach for doing that. Because they didn't care. They were doing what they thought was best for this organization says the Browns made a great decision. Hiring them. He's hired Steve Wilks to run his defense. Todd Mahnken as his offensive coordinator as for Adam gays. He is now while he stays in the division. Taking over the jets. Been able to especially in the last few days, really hammer out as much as I could on him and start looking at the things that I've seen him do really well some of the things that we can possibly work on. And really it's I mean it's going to start with him. I mean, that's that's an obvious statement. And I'm excited because this is really the first time I've been able to get with this young this early in his career, you know, we're going into year two. And I mean, he's hungry. He's hungry for knowledge. He he wants to be coached, which when you had that type of player that does have the physical traits. This is is an exciting thing for me to go through Adam gays saying he's looking forward to working with Sam darnold the third player taken in the draft last spring gays also feels that he can help the jets close out games, which they haven't been able to do very well in recent years. It's Tuesday January fifteenth drew Brees with the birthday today..

"Four and New Orleans is given up eight against philli. I'll take the eagles to cover because it's the postseason. I'll still take the saints tend up winning that game. And that would make me feel a lot better about the arguments with Nick foles and Carson Wentz and all that other stuff anyway, eight five five two one two four CBS. I gotta make this point. I saw the Browns. They just tweeted out, Freddie, kitchens. That he they've made it official. Freddie kitchens is is the now the head coach the official head coach of the Cleveland Browns. And they have the picture of him signing the contract. He looks like any one of your buddies on Facebook who just bought a house. Hoodie hat scraggly build little scruffy beard going on out scraggly, but scruffy like you see that picture like your friends on Facebook. Hey, we bought a house. We did a thing and they have that picture together. And they're either like holding the Coldwell Banker sign or the century twenty one sign or they're sitting there signing for the house. And have the picture. That's for Freddie kitchens. Looks like I think, Freddie kitchens is a great story. I think he's a good guy. What I do believe. This is is the Browns are giving Baker Mayfield Peyton Manning level power. And some people took this the wrong way. Because immediately a lot of people in the national media pan the higher. This is what this is. I can't hire anyone of these guys could be successful jets fans and Peter was on earlier in lopresti covered the jets where he might feel the same way for all. I know. Jets fans hate the atom gays higher. I don't hate the Adam gates higher. If you have a good quarterback. You got a chance. I think Sam darnold will be a good quarterback in the league finish up the season. Pretty nice. There's a lot of things that go against USA jets quarterback. He's a quiet kid. He's very very young. I think he's got a lot of talent. And I think you'll be okay. I think it'll be a playoff quarterback at some point Madam gays can make him better. Adam gay said garbage for quarterback for most part when he was in Miami. And the dolphins are kind of a message of organization, Mr. tease, kind of a mess of a of a guy who'd led that organization. Jets fans would know that I don't think Adam gates. I I don't think Adam gazes, maybe quite what bold a lot of people made him out to be you. I got that job. But got engaged as bad coach. You give them a good quarterback will working out for the most part. He'll be probably be a pretty successful organization. Overtime. I love Vic Fangio, I think he's a great defensive coach. I wish you would have been a head coach sooner. I can't believe he's sixty. And he's never been a head coach you hear that. There's an earnestness in his voice, you really like a guy because some of this stuff their political appoint appointments Vic Fangio, that's a football coach. And I love Vic Fangio if you don't give a quarterback he'll be out on his ass in a couple of years. I hate saying that Bruce Arians is a talented football coach. I don't have a problem with Bruce Arians were he said at first you wanted to Cleveland job. And it's the only job he would take. And then all of a sudden miraculously, his heart. That's all better. Now, he's been given a clean Bill of health. And he's going with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's gotta deal with James Winston who's gotten a couple of coaches fired already. I don't have problem with daddy sixty seven years old. He probably got restless in the booth he'd like to take one more stab at. It wasn't getting a call from Cleveland. Let's go to Tampa Bay. Let's see we could do with a guy who does have talent. I can't take that away from Jameis Winston. I look at cliff Kingsbury if Josh Rosen. Yes, Josh Rosen not Cuyler Murray. If Josh Rosen ends up being good, if they work together probably cliff Kingsbury, we'll have some success. I don't think. I just don't think that any one of these guys are out disaster. I do think that there is a different type of challenge in Cleveland for Freddie kitchens. And it's based on Baker Mayfield. I've never seen an organization. Put this much in this early on a rookie quarterback going into a second year. Like, we're seeing the Browns do with Baker Mayfield. This wasn't a decision where and I got a lot of calls this week. This wasn't a decision where you had to give why trust in John Dorsey. So many people called in this week to my morning show. Instead, we I trust in John Dorsey, Ken, Anthony, guys I trust. And John Dorsey, this guy is I said, well, you can trust in down Dorsey all you want. But you better trust and Baker Mayfield. Freddie kitchens isn't considered for the job. If tyrod Taylor was playing for the rest of the year. If Baker Mayfield wasn't an up for for offense of rookie of the year. And I think a lot of ways just because of the perceptions of the teams he should get it. But he won't. But I think he should get it. I'd be shocked if he did. And I'd love that. He did. If Baker Mayfield doesn't play the way he did with Freddie kitchens help, obviously, Freddie kitchens. Then there's no way he's considered for that job. And you look at the situation. The Baker Mayfield was handled in Cleveland. You got a coach fired halfway through the year yet an offensive coordinator fired halfway through the year. You have an ownership group that people are lukewarm on at best. And I think I'm being very generous with that. They don't trust them. John Dorsey brings some commitment. Some stability. He brings some credibility to an organization that desperately needed some because they hadn't been credible for twenty years generation not credible to a fan base for twenty years. That's what Baker Mayfield had to deal with they were seven eight and one this year, and he's an offensive rookie of the year candidate one of the two top guys between him and saquon Barkley done a hell of a job every single question. That's been put in front of him. He was able to answer he was able to command an offense. He was able to beat some decent football teams was able to be playoff teams. But was able to beat some decent football teams. Technically did beat a playoff team wants with the ravens. And he was able to deal with a coach in an offensive coordinator sniping at each other. And then both of them getting fired in the middle of the year. And when you have names like McCarthy, like gays like something mcdaniels like some of the other names that were floated out there, and you come up with Freddie kitchens. That's not. Well, we just think the Freddie kitchens is that good, obviously, they think Freddie, kitchens says some some talent as a coach, but that's a bet on Baker Mayfield. And I've never seen that this early. Peyton manning. Didn't have this power this early. Tom Brady didn't have this part of the surly. You can't name another football team. We know the patriots were interested in Baker Mayfield. If they would have drafted Baker Mayfield. And he would've sat behind Tom Brady or he would have started this year. If Tom Brady would have been either injured or retired or whatever if it were if it were Bill Belichick or Bill wasn't there anymore, and he retired. And Tom Brady was retiring and you have Baker Mayfield as your next quarterback. And you had a question of who is going to be the next head coach the patriots wouldn't do that. They wouldn't let Baker, but they wouldn't think of that head coach with Baker Mayfield in mind. White light the Cleveland Browns did. When Tony Dungy retired. It was all right. Peyton what do you want? What do you want to do here? But how do we wanna do this? When Peyton Manning went to Denver. Okay. How are we going to do? This guy's Payton. It's up to you. You don't see this type of power handed over this early? They're doing this in Cleveland. But you haven't seen a situation like the Cleveland Browns like this over the last twenty years, which has just been destitute embarrassing for what's was one of the great franchises in professional sports. Not just football in professional sports, thirty forty fifty years ago and is trying to get their way back. That's the type of challenge. Baker Mayfield has. And so what they're doing in this case, and they'll sink or swim with them, regardless. John Dorsey gives the keys to Baker Mayfield and truly says with this move with Freddie kitchens. It's your franchise. Pretty kitchens will look successful. Or look like one of the biggest boobs ever based on you. John Dorsey will either look like a genius. And look like not only kitty pick good players, but he can pick the right coach or he'll look like one of the greatest idiots who have ever graced a general managing booth in the NFL based on you. This franchise will either return to prominence or go back to the way things were based on you. And rarely do we see a guy. That's a perfect situation. I don't know if I could ever find a perfect situation quite like Baker Mayfield in the Cleveland Browns, twenty years of losing it can put a big chip on your shoulder. If you're a football fan Baker Mayfield you've seen it in the media. You've heard it from some of the other national pundits. You see where people think about him whether he's too brash. Whether he's too arrogant, whether he's cocky, where he takes things too personally with the entire Hugh Jackson fiasco, which got to tell you if you went on a national tour after me blaming basically blaming me for the losing. And then saying you would take every other quarterback under the sun. And again, I think people are getting this mixed up with Baker Mayfield. I don't think it's just because Hugh Jackson took another job with Cincinnati. I think it's because he feels if he would have started at the beginning of the season, they would've been playing last week instead of watching I could probably see it the way Baker Mayfield. Either way you're either with Baker Mayfield or against Baker Mayfield. There's no third direction and for a fan base with a chip on their shoulder, quite like the Cleveland Browns. Does it's perfect. It's not believe. Leaving in John Dorsey, it's believing in Baker Mayfield. So it doesn't surprise me whatsoever. The ones have been critical of Baker Mayfield over the last year. Not having not having a great big reaction and being positive when they hire a guy who was the running backs coach at the beginning of the year. And now is the head coach of the football team. But the only reason he's the head coach of the football team is because of the success city had with Baker Mayfield as the quarterback. There's no way if drew Stanton who's one of the backups if tyrod Taylor if any other quarterback out there for the most part would have been there any other Browns quarterback that's on that jersey over the last twenty years if any one of those guys were the quarterback, Freddie kitchens isn't signing a contract today. This isn't a bet on Freddie, or a bet on John Dorsey or any of that this is a bet on Baker Mayfield, pure and simple eight five five two one two four CBS. I gotta get the Fred Knoxville. Fred, you're next up on CBS sports radio. Go ahead. Hey, brother. I was gonna tell you. Yeah. Yeah. I tell you how. Amateur matters can bet benefit from listening to some of your sports talk host, for example. Okay. Go ahead. Like last year. I listen to Jodi MAC and frail. In the game myself. And I got those guys to agree. They like the game. Talking to me personally. But I'm just on the air listened to they were big. Yeah. And I would say that the game will I I ended up up to the end of the year. I'm doing the same thing in this year. Really? Yeah. So you're not you're. I'm just saying here, I'm saying if you watch it I'm seventy years old, I've been watching football, and I watched Johnny United swinging around. Raymond barre. I've been watching a long time when I played. Yeah. That's how I could get a couple of guys that are more knowledgeable than I am might be a little bit more in the loan. I to go along for you or for our Johnny Mak, whoever, you know, grass you've ever. And some local guys very knowledgeable that are Cumulus guys. Francia from my perspective. I get nervous about it. Because I think a lot of radio show host. I think they take it as a segment off. And so I it makes me nervous to hear you going. Yeah. I'm gonna throw down some money on this team based on here. What a lot of us. I like the game myself. You guys to agree with me? Now, I'd say, okay. That's what I choose to bet. So what do you got? When he got two games. What he got in these two games? Let me see if I agree with you. Go ahead. Well, well, when I first saw these games today, I can say every dog could win straight up. Not even covered win the game playoffs. Okay. And so that's when I started listening to different people. So I'm, you know, Casey at home. I like. I like the Ryan. Okay. I'll tell me flip it around though. I'm after I started listening to everybody. I like anyone. And I and I like New Orleans I like, I like all the fireworks now, and historically I can tell you that the favorites in the home team's what's your feeling the same thing? They win more..

"And there's nothing you can do. So I think that's a pretty big a strong swing now. Having worked in the. NFL just because like you've never been a coordinator or been fired before like that doesn't the league is so screwed up. I mean, look like Ryan Grigson interviewed with Mike Mayock has no business interviewing for that job even to be as right hand guy. So it's just about who, you know. So just because you're fired or hired relevant and that doesn't determine I mean, there are a lot of great coaches in football that coach high school like the best coaches. I mean, some of the best ones are, you know, work in the NFL. But just because you work in the NFL does not mean, you're a great coach or a great scout. Or whatever you work in any big just because you work for I don't know Hollywood production company. Doesn't mean you're great at making movies. You may just know a guy that gave you a job, and you maybe you're middle manager, and you can just kind of float through. But to me, the Freddie kitchens one like there is tangible pressure on this guy because this roster is clearly pretty good, and it's not an easy job. Because Dorsey has you know, again, the ego and self belief that he's the man, you know, he views himself. A Daryl Morey, and I think a lot of these general managers throughout the NFL now view themselves like that. And I think there's a fine balance the super smart ones like I've been around how he Roseman he understands how important the coaches, and that's why I think the eagles are crushing it because they have the perfect balance of life. They're very very they take player personnel. Very seriously. They also understand how important it is to have the coach have unity with you. And you're telling me, Freddie, kitchens is going to question anything John Dorsey does or hill. And I I liked the cliff Kingsbury higher. At least I understand it. But Steve is in complete control. And like again, I think times good, but his coach is going to be able to really help them that much like, what do you think of this free agent defender? I don't know I've never schemed against them. Never seen him. I held never even heard of him. Like think about the learning curve there like when you hired some of these guys like Adam gates when you hire Adam gays, and you go over free agency meetings like just. That's basic protocol in the NFL. That'd be like wherever whatever you do for a job V quivalent of like, you know, every Monday and some companies you have sales meetings or you have conference calls every Thursday. It's just basic protocol. Adam gates is going to know the majority of free agents good and bad high price guy, low money guys, he's coached against them or seen them on film. The last several years as a head coach, he can have dialogue and an opinion cliff Kingsbury will just not be able to have an opinion. Now, he can watch the guy and then create one, but there's a difference of having a running opinion. That's why you have such a big advantage when you've worked in the league forever. Bella tech once circles rent, everyone, he's working only forty years. There's literally not a player in the NFL that he hasn't scouted coming out of college, not not a single one. There is not one guy in the NFL that Mike Tomlin that Andy Reid that Pete Carroll that these guys have not seen scouted met for however long. They've been the league and know everything about him Strang..

"Gays who'd been the dolphins head coach the last three years made the playoffs once and gets fired after back to back losing seasons. The Browns also have a coach they promote Freddie kitchens to the head job. He became the Browns offensive coordinator this year after the firings of Hugh Jackson and Todd Haley, and candidly, they were just great after he took over the offense and the Broncos higher Vic Fangio the only coaching higher. So far this cycle with a defensive background nineteen years as an NFL defensive coordinator, the last four very highly regarded in Chicago putting together that defense, and of course, Adam Schefter is still working the phone here because we have all their moves other dominoes that are still

"And you don't hear the kind of uproar that you're hearing from the jet fan. So I just wanted to note that irony and the NFL de says, it's true. I mean, I really do think there's this idea that I know what Adam gay says, right? There's the excitement of the unknown that we have the anticipation of this guy could be the next great thing. Because now he has his opportunity, and that's why the coordinators in the college coaches, get all this shine on them. But the guy who's had his opportunity in the NFL and things didn't work out and a three year stretch, whatever it is. And that guy gets his second opera. Everybody makes the judgement on like now. We know exactly what he is. He's nothing. He's a crumpled up piece of paper. We threw in the garbage. And that's all he is. But that guy who hasn't gotten his opportunity, and I don't know what he can do. All my goodness. That's the guy I want, and I think that's flawed. The amazing they as Freddie kitchens was basically not entity and HBO hard knocks in. Nobody told me he was a running back coach. And somehow some way he was able to start calling plays when Todd Haley got fired with Jackson and Baker Mayfield had success. And all Cleveland Browns fans can think of is don't lose. Freddie kitchens. Don't lose. Freddie kitchens. Don't lose. Freddie kitchens. And now he ascends after eight or nine games is the offense coordinator as the new head coach in Cleveland. Yeah. That is bizarre. But in the other part, that's bizarre is all these other guys are gone. It wasn't just. Freddie kitchens. I mean, Greg Williams was the head coach during that run after Hugh Jackson. I mean, he got rid of the quarterbacks coach he got rid of Bob widely the offensive coordinator and Greg Williams who's gone. So it's like, it's Freddie kitchens. And now, Freddie kitchens gets the higher his staff. I guess I don't know. But it's amazing. All I know is that Adam gates beat the jets five out of six attempts. Yeah. You know, and he'd beat the jets with a with a group of quarterbacks that, you know. I don't want to tell you. Great Nakayama, say slop, but not great and interesting. I mean, I don't know forty years old offensive mind Gress of eight type prickly that seems to fit all the boxes if he asked me it is boomer and geo on the fan and CBS sports.

"Had Walter pains kit on Jared Payton on Friday, and we talked about Cody parkey being the guy that scared the living crap out of us. We literally talked about hitting off the field goal post. What four times a one game? Yeah. Yeah. So there's that by the way. Good day to be, Freddie kitchens. Remember back in January last year. He was hired by Hugh Jackson to be the running backs coach, and then assistant had goats then in November they fire Todd Haley. He gets promoted oh, see OC head coach of the Browns. Baker Mayfield must like you in this quick NBA note is there a better player on the planet other than maybe James harden and getting in Janas right now. He's out of his mind right now. Well, if you could ever learn to shoot from deep he I mean, come on. The rebounding tonight to incredible and the bucks actually went into Houston and beat the rockets Arden had a whole home forty two tonight about Kyle Kuzma forty-one points tonight and three quarters he joins Klay Steph. Lebron in harden is the only guys in the NBA the shared out, forty points through three quarters complain, man. Alex was. But the the story I wanted to hit on before we get to the next phase of Kamiar tonight, which we will talk to Connor Letourneau of the chronicle about the dubs warriors hosted dob bowl's coming up on Friday. So they got a couple of days off. But I wanted to hit on this this story Sean Payton today in what he did in New Orleans. This is incredible. So we know how the season ended for the saints last year. Right, Minneapolis miracle. You're going home instead of playing Nick foles in the NFC title game. Nice season's over, and I just full disclosure. I'm a huge drew Brees fan. I love drew Brees and Sean Payton. You know, one of my favorite coaches in professional sports. I just there's something about that relationship between those two guys they haven't won the level of like Brady and Bella check. But some pretty incredible, and Sean Payton just understanding how to motivate guys and just doing something a little different Bill Walsh was a master-motivator like this, Sean Payton, if you miss this story. This is is what he did today. He gets the Lombardi trophy because the saints won one back in two thousand ten so the guy wanted to facility. Grabs that bad boy gets to armed guards from, you know, some local company, whatever the hell and has two hundred thousand in cash. Okay. Just two hundred racks. All right stacked up on top of each other cold hard cash. I get the World Series of poker when they come to the final table, and they dump all the cash on the table, Sean paid rolling in with two hundred thousand in cash, and I don't think it was like in dodgeball member. When when white was gonna buy average Joes, and he brings the briefcase with the money in it for one hundred thousand dollars. It's like this little stack and he's like something gets lost in the translation. No like there was a stack of scratch. Okay. He rose in the locker room to armed guards Elim bardy trophy in two hundred thousand in cash, which is the Super Bowl bonus that players get for winning the Super Bowl rolls into his locker room and says basically guys good money here. Guys, make good money here. But not to obviously to. Hundred and fifty thousand in cash right there. That's a Mark Ingram said he basically said who wants to this who wants to come get it? And seeing is believing baby right there in front of your face. And I guess Peyton back before the saints so nine Super Bowl run used a similar tactic. I just love it man, just rolling in with the Lombardi trophy and a bunch of money use what you're playing for even though a lot of these guys are rich. Look, I think plenty of guys in the NFL don't have what we consider like generational wealth. I mean, you know, provided you invest wisely should be able to make that last is I don't think that you know, they they never have to worry about, you know, spending a prudent dollar ever again. That's K man as two hundred racks. Oh, yeah. In a Lombardi trophy. So. Yeah. Great move by Sean Payton today, got me fired up. I'm ready for the Super Bowl. Of course. I won't make two hundred thousand dollars saints win. All right. Coming up on the other side. Connor Letourneau is gonna join us talk a little bit about the Golden State Warriors are coming up in our number three. Don't worry. We got a little something for everybody nights. "Don't get me wrong. I love it. And when when a guy like McVeigh comes wrong along and actually has excess. He's not a young guy. He's a young guy who grew up in the life. He's young guy who worked as an offensive coordinator for a few years. He'd been in the NFL for ten years or eight years of that moment. So sometimes ageism it can kind of blur us from looking at people's resumes. Just because somebody's really really young doesn't mean. They haven't paid their dues or put in work. Yeah. But a lot of these guys are getting higher now who haven't done that who haven't put in the years of work who have grown up the sons of of football prodigies or the daughters of football geniuses. And I don't know. I think a lot of the names earn for ruling to read these hires. Okay. Go for it. Yeah. Broncos Vic Fangio, right? The browns. Freddie, kitchens bucks. Bruce arians. "Browns, promoting and hiree. Freddie kitchens. He was running backs. Coach starts the offensive coordinator to end it. Denver Broncos making a defensive hires. That's still allowed in the NFL Vic Fangio after the Perv defensive season. The bears had and last night after we signed off air Bruce Arians to Tampa. The game is defined the next Sean McVeigh. Could this young Bruce Arians guy be the next day? Dr we. Arounds national panel is eighteen with Baker enough to get him the promotion Clinton Yates, I I think absolutely. I mean, we can go through all the different numbers. Everything was up in the eight games that he coached completion percentage yards per game touchdowns per game. The Saxon down attempts completion as well. As points per game is low again, they won five four games. This is not just about those numbers in my opinion. I feel though the main thing they've got to do with whether or not Baker Mayfield actually likes this guy, which is obviously a big deal into his Val. He's dealt with coach is on the way out of Mayfield is you know, is into who's with him. As far as strategy standpoint is concerned in the numbers are up. I don't see. It'll clearly that's something. They have information on whether he Mayfield get along. I mean, they're making that decision knowing what what the history is here Israel, Gutierrez kitchens promotion after eight games. Oh, See? see. Well. This is the great thing about the position the Browns are in. If kitchens ends up being the coach who leads them to a Super Bowl, however, many years down the road. Then fantastic. You nailed this higher. But really the most important part here is developing Baker Mayfield in developing that offense, and that's Clinton mentioned it's about whether he's comfortable in it. Any obviously didn't have didn't vibe with you Jackson is obviously a very brash young man is going to have his his voice heard whether it be with this coach or any other coach. So if you get a guy, Freddie kitchens who's been with him for these games, and he's succeeded obviously under him, then I think that's a great get. It's not really a lot of pressure to have hired the next Super Bowl winning coach of the Cleveland Browns or the first. Speaking of breath, Sarah Spain. Yeah. I mean, I think even with the current Browns who are looking up you still have to ask yourself with every decision. They make have they just Browns did and if they hadn't gone with kitchens, and they'd gone looking for somebody else, even though the proof is right in front of them that he was able to turn around the team that he works. Well with Baker Mayfield that the offense of stats went up that they were averaging more yards per offensive play than anybody in years and years, then you would say oh my God. They Browns did why did they go find someone else? It's right in front of them. So the hope is that the proof that they've already seen from kitchens proves over the course of multiple seasons. So the proof is in the kitchen is what you're saying Bill, plastic you haven't you. Teams teams really don't I don't know. How smart is to promote a coordinator from within to be head coach everyone looks at him one way. Now that looking at him a different way a lot most teams won't do this because of this. It's a dangerous thing. I'd have gone for somewhere. Like Kevin Stefanski the coordinator administrator. What are you saying promoting from within is as a show of weakness or show of lack of a man? Yeah. No, no. It's a show that a lot of times teams very few teams. Do this often that doesn't work because you have again everybody looks at him like the offensive coordinators. Everybody's buddy. Now, he's gonna to be the head coach, it's a different role. You don't see this a lot. That's what teams outside bring someone else in. I think it's a big. It's interesting to me because do they even see him as offensive coordinator? He started the years the running backs coach Gutierrez back in right, everybody. Got a lot of teams. There players themselves will ask for promotion for for a coordinator of some sort. It's it within the organization, it's not necessarily a bad idea. And again, it's Tony mentioned this is an eight game situation as the offensive coordinator. It was the running backs coach before that he's had. Different positions with different organizations. Somebody to give them a chance..

"That they hoped him to be the culture change that they hoped him to be the face of the franchise that they wanted him to be in hoped him to be and all of a sudden. Freddie kitchens is now the guy. Because you can't let him go. And I thought that they would hire Bruce Arians there. And because he's got the experience of being an H c in the NFL and Arizona two years in the playoffs out of his five. They're coordinated the Steelers offense when they won the Super Bowl against the hours ONA cardinals. That was Ken Whisenhunt coordinator the offense when they beat the. Seattle Seahawks airings been around forever. Quarterbacks coach. Head coach. Instead, they decide to stay with, Freddie kitchens. And the question is is that by complete happenstance that the guys that they did not want to go ahead. And. Hire Mike McCarthy was that something that they weren't even on the radar screen is just so many questions about how they came about with, Freddie kitchens. But the bottom line is he's the guy that has turned Baker Mayfield into Baker freaking Mayfield. He's the guy who was coordinating the quarterback waking up dangerous, and it makes sense for the Browns. Not let him walk out of the building as you head coach material we shall see. Adam Schefter reporting moments ago that Vic Fangio the coordinator of the defense in Chicago is now going to Denver to be the head coach there. News poppin left right up and down. Ian Rapoport is going to be joining us in about ten minutes time here on the show to give us the latest from his notebook. So that would mean the Broncos hire a defensive coach. And then who would coordinate? The offense is buddy Gary kubiak is what that would be. That's the idea could be at comes out of retirement former Super Bowl winning head coach is now just the OC for Vic Fangio. That's not a bad combination right there. And congratulations to guy Vic Fangio who has been terrific. And how about the Broncos hiring somebody this first blush reaction? Are you allowed to could you just do me favor? I know it's an arcane. Okay, thome. All right. And there's tons of words in rules in the NFL rulebook. Are you allowed to hire a defensive coaches as a head coach in the NFL in two thousand? Can you look that up? Are you allowed to do that? Meantime that in somewhere. Well, I guess they don't have a young quarterback that they fired this year. I guess the Broncos don't have a young quarterback that they've drafted that they need to hook up with some under forty wonder kined like the cardinals just did with cliff Kingsbury, and I do want to say this. There's a lot of Sean McVeigh. I don't want to say hate because you can't hate the guy having fun with an on Twitter, though. But they are there's a lot of resentment that I see on Twitter, you think that's what it is resentment because there are a ton of coacher coaching. People or scouts or observers who know coaches in who know the systems who know who's been there and done that. And what they can do if given the chance who see somebody like cliff Kingsbury hired in Arizona, just because he did coach Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech before he got fired there and spent two weeks as the offense coordinator at USC before. Getting the opportunity to be a head coaching candidate. I mean to go from not good enough at Texas Tech to good enough as an NFL head coaching candidate. I think causes a lot of resentment and some people in the reason why is because everybody's trying to get themselves there, Sean McVeigh, and then it's like, well, what is Sean McVay done? Anyway. Except when the division two years in a row and he has yet to win a playoff game. And that could be a box checked on Saturday night here in Los Angeles. But it's not Sean McVeigh's fault that everybody sees what the Rams did by the way taking a risk..

"The Cleveland Browns is on hold temporarily. Peter one thing I've hear- I've heard over the weekend. It may be on hold permanently. You know, we we connect dots. And we assume that because there are past relationships between people that that means they're gonna come together. Again. Sometimes it means they're definitely not gonna come together again. And one of the things I heard the former Green Bay people not just John Dorsey. But Lonzo Highsmith Elliott Wolff the people from Green Bay who are in Cleveland may not be as anxious to reunite with Mike McCarthy as we had believed, and it may be that it just all falls apart and McCarthy ends up not being a serious candidate for the Cleveland job. I think one of the reasons why people were connecting the dots. Originally is that several years ago while John Dorsey was still in Green Bay. So we're going back to I guess to about two thousand eleven maybe two thousand ten in mid Mike McCarthy tenure in Green Bay John Dorsey and Mike McCarthy were golfing buddies. So and they were good friends. And so I think everybody assumed that okay? When they when the opening comes up then. Dorsey is gonna go hard after McCarthy. Now, look we can talk about a lot of different things about the Cleveland job. There's no question that it's one of the top two jobs along with Green Bay. But I think one of the things I've thought all along about this job is that, you know, the Cleveland Browns are going to have their picking the later as crazy as this scenes. They're going to is is it seems and Mike one other thing to remember about Cleveland. I think this organization really wants to keep. Offensive coordinator. Freddie kitchens. The great relationship. He's had with Baker McCarthy. So it makes it a little bit difficult. Then doesn't it? If you're talking about hiring an offensive guru. And I'm not saying that that's going to prevent them from hiring. Lincoln Riley or Mike McCarthy or somebody like that. I'm not saying that the only thing I'm saying is that I think they're going to have to be convinced if they hire an offensive guy that he is truly a special not only head coach. But that he can do and advance Baker mayfield's career the way that Freddie kitchens did in the last eight weeks of the season. There was so much talk a few weeks back about whether and to what extent Aaron Rodgers would have input in the hiring decision in Green Bay. Do. You think the Browns have factored in Mayfield desired may feel doesn't seem like the kind of guy is going to keep his mouth shut. I see Mayfield plopping himself down Jimmy house MMS office saying look, we got something special going here. I want Freddie kitchens. What do you do? If you're young brash quarterback is directing some of that brashness back toward you saying. This is the guy I want. I I don't know. My guy I'm skeptical that he would do that. I think even Baker Mayfield would have enough presence of mind to know that listen, I'm not going to stick my nose where it doesn't belong if they asked me I'll tell them, but I'm not going to go out of my way, other than to say if I'm if I see John Dorsey at the end of the season or Jimmy has lem to say, hey, listen. I love this guy kitchens. I I just can't see that a rookie quarterback. No matter how well he played would say, hey, I want you guys to keep Freddie kitchens. I just maybe did it's I think it I doubt that he would do that. Baker Mayfield is a new breed, and I could see him doing it. I couldn't see any others ever doing it. I could see Baker Mayfield doing it. Based upon everything we've seen and heard from him this year cliff Kingsbury now in demand. The jets interview. Viewed him on Monday NFL media reports that who interview with the cardinals on Tuesday. Those are the two teams that wanted him. Remember over the weekend. Lynn Swann, the AD at USC tried to block this from happening. I was told Kingsbury was just gonna quit pay the buyout out. It was peanuts in comparison to his Texas Tech by out and just go to the NFL whether it's the head coach or an offensive coordinator. So it looks like they've figured something out. Whether he's still at USC or not technically who knows but he's going to get a chance to try to get one of these NFL head coaching jobs. And you know, the big question people are asking how does a guy who gets fired by Texas Tech become desired by two NFL franchises to be the head coach. I think it's a great question. Mike, he's thirty five and forty is a head coach. He's obviously really smart is an offensive guy. This bothers me quite honestly it bothers me. And I don't even know what the recruiting scenario is at USC. I don't know. You know what? If if any head coach or if any quarterback who is considering USC has had contact. I I don't know the college recruiting rules. But the first thing I thought of is, you know. Here's a guy who's been in one place for exactly one month. And then basically he almost should leave anyway because essentially in trying to get these other jobs he is telling USC and telling any young quarterback who ever goes to play there. Hey at the first sign that I can better myself. I'm outta here. I'm not committed to this place. And again, I know that there's two sides to this story. But to me, I think it's ridiculous that a guy goes to a job and one month later is trying to get out of the job. I just I just think it's wrong, especially after he signs a contract to stay in that place are to go to that place. And and it's just I just don't think it's a very honorable thing. I got two points. First of all when it comes to honorable. We were talking about college football. And I believe there's nothing honorable about college football because they exploit. Their players period. And they create barriers to hold the players in place. We talked about Trevor Lawrence the reason he can't go to the NFL right now is because college football with the assistance of the NFL, and the NFL PA have created a system that prevents these guys from making any money. Not only do they not get paid their prevented from making their own money. Whether it's on their own likeness, or whether it is by going to the NFL when the NFL is ready for them. And I guarantee you Trevor Lawrence would be drafted right now by an NFL team higher than round three. And so there's no honor in the sport. It's every man for himself. It's take what you can get. And also you mentioned the contract the contract allows him to buy his way out the language is in there. What Lynn Swann did Lynn Swann said we're going to block him from interviewing because the NFL has a policy part of this effort to keep college football happy because we have to we have to preserve our free farm system where they require the teams to contact the before there's any effort to hire. College coach and the says, no that's the end of it. Well, it was the end of it for a day or two so Peter I just look I understand the broad concepts at play here. But when you're talking about an inherently corrupt industry like college football, I say all's fair. If on December fifth that when you sign cliff Kingsbury that you thought there was any chance that on January fourth. He was gonna knock on your door and say, hey, I want to go interview for jobs with the jets and the cardinals. I'm just asking you as a boss. All right. Would you ever hired this guy if there is a chance that in twenty nine days that the guy was going to say, hey, by the way, I want to leave would you give me permission to go talk to these teams? I'd like to think that Lynn Swann was on notice of at least the possibility with the NFL hiring cycle coming up in a few weeks that the phone would ring. So I would have wanted to talk about it ahead of time. So we don't know what happened between swan and Kingsbury with clay Helton in the middle of all of it the head coach as to what will happen when how much foresight. Does it take to realize number one? There's gonna be a run on offense of coaches for head coaching jobs. Number two. There's going to be a backfill of offensive, Gordon. Positions. There aren't enough. Good offensive coach is to go around. There was already buzz about Kingsbury maybe going to the Rams or someone else at the NFL level. I just think that that there maybe should have been more questions asked more conversations had. And maybe there were bottom line is the contract had a provision in it and has a provision in it that allows for him to buy his way out for a very low amount of money, relative to what his buyout from Texas Tech. Is that that provision in there? He's got the right to do it anytime he wants to do it. So you could say necessarily that in the drafting the contract. This scenario was contemplated. I mean, I guess so might get stinks. I don't I don't like it. But everything about it stinks. Everything. It's the Trevor Lawrence can't go to the NFL, it stinks that these guys are out there risking life and limb, and they can't get paid for their efforts other than tuition board fees, snacks, whatever the hell else. They get. It's far for the great players. It's far less than what they're bringing to the table. So I I hate to hate to put it this way. But I think all of the colleges are sticking it to the players all the time. So anytime anybody sticks to one of the colleges I say, well, that's a start. There's still a long way to go before it all evens out coat. It's not it's not a player sticking it to the college. It's a coach sticking it to the college. I don't I it just they snuck into the coaches to they stick it to the coaches whenever they they stick it everybody this sticking it to him. All right. We're gonna take a break or turn the future of John Harbaugh. He will continue to be the coach Baltimore. Unless of course, he isn't vote break it down next here on PS..

Browns fire coach Hue Jackson ahead of trade deadline

"General manager with their old. Hey, coach, hue Jackson. It was destined to fail. And it did finally on Monday when the Browns released Hugh Jackson with time left on his contract this season and next season. So the Browns will be paying him through two thousand nineteen but it will give John Dorsey and Alonzo Highsmith and Elliott Wolff in the Browns for an office the chance to go hire their own head coach, they are I in the pool this year. They get the start looking for an interviewing coaching candidates right now, if they want to go talk to Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma taking go do that. If they want to go talk to any other college coach, they can go do that. They don't have to hide behind anything right now. The Browns are the first out for a coaching search. And then of course, they make the change in offense coordinator firing Todd Haley and bringing in Freddie kitchens who doesn't have extensive experience running an NFL offense. So it'll be interesting to see how kitchens calls play. Days starting Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. And so the Cleveland Browns the first team to overhaul their coaching staff, but the real changes came Tuesday with a flurry of moves that made this one of the busiest trade deadline days in NFL history. Last year was very busy. Because at the last moment in the twenty four hours leading up to the deadline. We saw Jimmy Garoppolo traded from New England to San Francisco j Gye traded from Miami to Philadelphia Dwayne Brown from Houston to Seattle. Marcel Darius from buffalo to Jacksonville and Kelvin Benjamin going from Carolina to buffalo end the almost trade of AJ McCarron from Cincinnati to Cleveland, the got foiled when the Browns could not get the deal done in time by the four o'clock deadline by the four o'clock deadline this year. There was no such thing. Holding back a flurry of moves. We saw de. Ver- trade Pro Bowl wide receiver. Damaris Thomas and a seventh round pick to the Houston. Texans for a fourth and seventh round pick. As will the interesting part of that trade is that Thomas is first game with the Texans will come Sunday in Denver against the Broncos team. That just traded him. Thomas was the longest tenure Bronco and get the Broncos say goodbye to him because really they weren't going to keep his fourteen million dollars salary around next season in my mind. The most surprising move right before the deadline. Came win Detroit traded golden Tate to Philadelphia for a third round pick. So many teams had made so many inquiries to the lions about golden Tate. But they had resisted all overtures for him. But finally, they broke down and dealt Tate to the eagles who for the second straight year made a trade right at the deadline last year Gye this year Tate, as they look to try to keep up with the rest of the NFC east another team in the NFC making.
