"Need love will throw somebody I'm Raleigh James, yes, earth wind and fire and you can bet. That Fred white was playing on that. And of course that was 1979. Summertime, actually, came out after boogie Wonderland. 25. And it was interesting. You got number two on the R&B and on the pop charts and on the pop charts, number one at the time that this wonderful record was number two. Number one was my sharona by the neck. Go figure. I don't remember what was number one on the R&B charts, but hopefully a more worthy contender than my sharona. All right, so 888-876-5593 8 8 8 Riley. The history of that song, by the way, David Foster was a co writer and when he was first writing that earth one in fire was certainly not on his mind. Motown had signed JPMorgan, I am not making this up. And that's what he had written it for. He was in the middle of the song. He had lived the chorus after the love is gone, and he sort of forgot some of the word and got the other two guys to Bill champlain and Jay graydon to fill in the blanks and do that. And they weren't sure what they were going to do with it, but Bill champlain was working on a single for epic and working with earth wind and fire, who were on Columbia around the time and hence, you know, one thing led to another Maurice white heard it and the rest is history. But yeah, written for JPMorgan. Yeah, that's a good question for some game show, no doubt. It will not be on Monday night trivia. By the way, Monday night trivia will replay, of course, on Friday night. Tomorrow night will be on probably a half hour delay due to the game, but I expect by about ten 30 central. And we'll be joined by Charlie Gracie junior, and I'm looking forward to that. Of course, his dad, a friend of mine, Charlie Gracie, senior recently passed away. And very, very sad about that. So we'll talk about Charlie's Charlie's history, which while certainly had its moments here, and historically, especially, but just huge in Europe. And lots of great stories there. And we'll tell them. And then on Thursday night at 10 o'clock, we are having another visit from Julie Ryan. And if you missed her last time, she's a real treat and hopefully you will be listening. And maybe we'll take some of your calls out. Last time that's all we did, but I'm going to hog her for the first part of the hour anyway, because I want to get to know her better. And have you do that too? So 888-876-5593 is 88 88 Raleigh. And that is going to take us to mark and downers grove. What's up tonight, mark? Well, I'm joining the sea crane party because I'm pretty well finished with my some terraces and I, for me, a radio geek, the $175 that I stench on the new adapter and the skyway two were well worth it. And I'll tell you the one complaint and then I'll tell you the improvements. The one complaint is that the adapter doesn't have any noise reduction deeds in the court. And it turns out that the noise that the check was referring to is not about the output audio circuit. It's about the a.m. dance. However, the batteries will last so long on one charge that if you want to listen to a lot of good AMD exchange, just don't use the adapter, use the batteries. By the way, always the case for people who are real a.m. connoisseurs do not use AC. I don't care what the source is. You're always better off with batteries, periods. So that should that should be kind of something that everybody who is a serious DX or would be doing. So, okay. Although the old crane adapter does have noise reduction beats and they're pretty effective now the same crate in tech also told me what good results he got was the external shortwave antenna. He used a 30 foot wire and he used the adapter that has a telephone Jack type thing on one end and has a mono mini plug on the other hand and he said that without the external wire, the reception was somewhat improved on the meter. It was one to two bars, but when he used his 30 foot wire out in the backyard, the short, the same short wave station went up to 9 bars. Wow. And he said that it almost sounded like a local FM station. That's how clear and crisp it was. And that brings me to the sound quality. It's kind of subtle what they've done with that. It's a less bassy sound through the earbuds, but in my opinion, it's more accurate. And the advantage of having less base is that you can turn the radio up all the way with a lot less distortion. And so this little tiny radio that fits in the palm of your hand can still a room with sound and as far as that one listener who called in another possibility that he could consider would be to get this radio and hook up an amplified speaker to it. And I think he would find that the sound would be very satisfactory and he would be able to get short wave. So it is, I would say it is a much improved radio and the a.m. sense activity really shows up better when you do daytime DX sync. Because there are far away stations that just don't have as much noise as they used to. Yeah, and that's really the xing today on a.m. really is about reducing the noise. And that is not easy to do because usually when you're reducing the noise, you're reducing the station as well. So trying to isolate the noise and not the station is very difficult. Yeah. And eventually there will be orphans and if not, I mean, on a 10% sale, I got the adapter in the radial pulse for about a 175 bucks and should me, it's well worth it. That's great. That is great. So it's not just a pseudo upgrade. They really have made some improvements here. Good. Good. Yeah, I just love them because they're really isn't anybody else who is putting out a radio that is designed for those of us who love radio. And like our trucker said, you know, they were in the truck not even getting good a.m.. And I mean, that used to be, I used to joke that I'll just go by an FM radio where the car attached to it. Well, in the early days. And I was pretty serious about that, but these days, you know, it sort of sort of makes me miss the old AC delco's tremendously because they were just the best. Well, growing up, I used grundig radios and I never saw it anything would be better, but I think seek train has done it. They're a better radio and they're cheaper because you don't have the German exchange rates. Yeah. Yeah. Although, you know, it's really weird you mentioned German exchange rates. And yes, that is true. But I remember years ago when I was very interested in real to real tape recorders when they were really becoming reeboks and some of the others. Well, there was tandberg, which was from Germany. And oh yeah. Ten Berg had this feat that you had to pay that for because it recorded things. Almost like a music rights fee. And I remember that being ridiculous. So yeah, I do remember my tan burgs. Yeah, Sandberg was a great brand in each day. They used it in The White House. Oh, is that right? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so I think for some purposes that if you want to really do some research, you can find some historical connections. And reeboks was another excellent German brand and even some of our stateside brand

"Old that's Fred white on tambourine. So all right, how neat. And if I get a cause of death, I'll let you know, but like I say, four brothers now have the same family all no longer with us ranging in ages from Maurice who was the half brother who was born in 1941 and died in 2016 to Fred 1955 to New Year's Day. What a shame. All right, so 8 8 8 7 6 5 5 9 three 88 88 Raleigh. And yeah, we've got chuck and Rockford, all right, chuck, what's on your mind tonight? Oh, can you imagine going 90 miles an hour on 65 coming north? Well, yeah, actually, I can. But anymore, like I said, with all these trees, what fun is it? Well, the word was out at that time. I was in the 70s that they. Placed didn't have enough gas to chase you. So they weren't chasing anybody. And I got in behind a semi, and I was drafting him at 90 miles and Peugeot. Well, so much for 55 that nobody went anywhere. Yeah. I don't think it will ever happen again. I guess if they did stop, you know, they could get you correctly. Or something. Yeah, and for many areas, as you know, the dragon off the interstate soccer two and JP blues is the big revenue stream for certain counties. So there's an awful lot of that. Oh, you know, you were talking about crane. Yes, that Wi-Fi radio would then have a Bluetooth on it. I don't think it does. I've got one effect John's listening to you as you speak on the Wi-Fi radio. I'm pretty sure it doesn't. That would be, I would think it would even be pretty good for I guess some vehicles have hotspots don't think for well, yeah, but now that's going to be great in the future. But for right now, it depends where you live and where you drive. For instance, where I am in Arizona, if I try to go to Phoenix, I've got 30 miles where I've got no Internet connection, no matter what no way no hell not forget about it. Neither does anybody else. So you get a lot of dropouts when you're between cities, not as much on the east coast. So Wi-Fi radio is great. And of course, a lot of the cars that are being sold now is new, have that capability right in the dash. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Somebody's saying they won't have a.m. radio and some of the newer cars or I guess all of them eventually. Oh, I doubt it's probably I doubt it's going to happen that easily. I know that the electric cars don't want to spend the extra nickel to put an a.m. section in there, which is just terrible that they won't isolate that. But in reality, people who think, well, you'll just get it on the stream. You'll get it online. You know, you have a real emergency. You're not going to get anything on a stream. And there's nothing better still in terms of long-range propagation at night, even with all of the interference in the problems as a.m. radio. It just travels. And yeah, I know if you got a bunch of dimmers in your house and your microwave oven and everything else that's bothering it, it is a hassle, but I think we'd be at a real loss if it were to go away and that's why I was pleased that we have some members of Congress who are asking some hard questions. Yes, you know, you're doing, well, radio more or less doing it a 100% anniversary. But I can remember listening and this is 80 years ago. Cliff Johnson on Chicago radio. I think you might have been wbm. I'm not sure. Yeah. No, absolutely. And the reason that Chicago has so many 50,000 watt facilities, of course, is its unique location that's covered so much white area of the farming communities that only had daytime stations that would run down at sundown and then the 50,000 watts. That's where you'd hear Orion Samuelson and everything else that was integral to farmers. So there were purposes for that. Yeah. Well, now that I'm getting older, I think back to a lot of the stuff that happened when I was a kid. Of course. Of course. And the changes you've seen in your lifetime where you started out versus where you are now. It's a wonderful you can even, you know, I was wondering you can even walk a straight line chuck. So I'm glad you can. I'm glad you called and you've ended the half hour. We'll talk to you soon. Okay. Okay, thanks. You too. So we'll find out what's going on in the WGN radio newsroom on WGN radio. "James. I got a couple hours to spend together tonight. If it's on your mind as usual, it will be on mine. 888-876-5593 88 88 Raleigh, and I'm sure is on not only your in my mind, but music lovers throughout Chicago and really the country upon the word that Fred white has died and I was looking around before the show to see if I could somehow come up with a cause of death and I don't know as you probably know. He died on January 1st, his brother berdin, who was still a member of earth wind and fire announced this and no cause. He was born in 1955 in Chicago and talk about a prodigy. I often talk about prior to earth wind and fire there were the salty peppers, and this is the late 60s on capital and it was, of course, more Reese white, along with wade's lemons and Don Whitehead, who were the salty peppers, and la la time was a great record, and undoubtedly will play it, but I was thinking to myself, well, since that came out in 69 and since Fred was a young teenager at the time, clearly he wasn't involved, but all contraire. Child prodigy absolutely was involved. And along with many of the other really remarkable milestones in Earth wind and fire. Of course, Maurice white been gone since 2016. Maurice was a half brother. Interestingly, Maurice was born in Memphis, and he grew up in the projects, his grandmother raised him initially, and he was close to Booker T Jones and a number of other people. And then his mom wound up getting married to verdean Adams, a doctor in Chicago, and when she moved to Chicago, ultimately Maurice Maurice joined them verdean was born in 1951, and as I was as I was saying, Fred, in 1955, and yes, there were other brothers as well. Ronald was one. I'm trying to think of the other, but nonetheless, all but verdean no longer with us now, and still a shock all the way around. And very, very sorry to hear the news. And, you know, there's just, I can't say enough for Fred white, you know, child prodigy doesn't really really describe it, not only was he as a child playing on the salty peppers records, but as a teenager was touring as the drummer for Donnie Hathaway. And a number of a number of firsts in Frederick Eugene Adams Adams life and actually formally joined earth wind and fire in 1974. And the reason that he wasn't in there from the salty peppers on through was that in 1970, Maurice left the salty peppers went to Los Angeles formed there, called on verdine to join him, but of course Fred was still way too young. But it was in long, and of course verdean on September, which will play shining star in so many so many others. So rest in peace, Fred white, and no, I don't have, as I say, a cause of death yet, not a word mentioned about that. But all except verdean now gone in all way, way too soon. So 888-876-5593 is 88, 88 Raleigh will also be talking about Anita Porter, a pointer, and all man, I'm going to play one of my favorite pointer records and you can almost guess of what it was, but is there ever a story behind it and Anita wrote it, so we'll get to that too. But right now, we have Michael and he is driving down the highways and byways, actually, I believe that would be I 65, so thanks for taking me along for the ride, Michael. Hey, thank you, Molly. It's great to hear your voice. Thanks. So what's up? Well, I'm going to ask you a question about equity inspired. The whole motif of the phoenician or Egyptian. Portrayed in this problem covers what's the motivation behind that and the attraction and the bad for that type of chief? I'm sorry. Half of you dropped out there. Are we talking earth wind and fire? Yeah, I'm curious about the Egyptian or phoenician covers on your album and their uniforms. I wonder what inspired that? Yeah, that's a really interesting question. And it inspired Maurice white and that that was the deal. And so much of earth wind and fire was Maurice white, including earth wind and fire all relate to his birth sign, Sagittarius, but as far as the Egyptian stuff, Whitehead studied all kinds of cultures and cult science and astrology and mysticism and all that. And from there, that's where that mysticism and all went to early Egypt. You know, the meditation and all that. So it was, you know, it was more of being a spiritual student, not just wearing the dashiki on an album cover, but Maurice white was genuinely interested in the study. Okay. Well, I think it sits there music quite a bit. Oh, yeah. Fantastic music, guys. Wonderful let's go back and listen to those records. So fantastic, full band, you know? Such a change of talent. Both musicians and singing. There were tremendous and they certainly did straddle all cultures. Some of their songs still the most requested east LA Hispanic oldies to this day. I want to buy a big Korean radio and you talked about it, but I really have confused by what's to buy. Well, what do you want it for? Give me your primary purpose. All right, I live in a hotel when I'm not driving my truck and I don't like television. I prefer the radio sisters sitting next to my bed in my hotel room and kids being keeping company. Okay, well then I'll because I've got almost everything Bob Crane has made and I'll tell you my bedside companions are always like the CC radio

On the latest edition of the balance of power podcast, a conversation with doctor Asha sha of Stanford health about what we can expect from COVID in the new year. Yeah, unfortunately, as each new to booster comes out and be recommendations come out, I think some of these things get a little bit more confusing, but the bottom line is now that there is only one booster available. It came out in September. It's changed from the original formulation of the COVID shot and that it covers the omicron variants that are circulating in the community. So it is recommended to get that updated booster to be up to date and to protect folks from getting severely ill from the COVID strains that are circulating right now. One of the things that we've seen some evidence of is shortage of some medications. I mean, internationally, antibiotics as I understand it are short. We also have some flu medications that are short. And maybe even some over the counter. Correct. So we have been hearing reports of local areas that have shortages of Tamiflu, which is the antiviral medication that is used to treat influenza. However, there's not nationally a shortage. What we do recommend for physicians and practitioners is to use those antiviral medications and reserve them for individuals who are at severe at risk for severe disease from influenza. So those that have other medical conditions, lung conditions for conditions, we also give Tamiflu to everyone that's hospitalized with influenza as well. There has been a shortage of amoxicillin, which is a common antibiotic use, especially in the pediatric population. Again, because of the increase in respiratory viruses that we've been seeing in children and then those children being prone to getting bacterial infections that we would

"Smart device KPRC everything it is Jesse Kelly Show 8773774373 Jesse at Jesse Kelly Show calm. Why it And his brothers. They come across Doc Holliday in Dodge City. Apparently, there was a point in time. Where? Why it was about to die. Some guy had his gun trained on him. And Doc Holliday came right up beside the guy who was pointing a gun at wide herb and place the weapon right on his temple and said, Go ahead and do it and you're gonna die. That In an era like that. Is not something you forget. It's not so you know, wild, lawless crazy time like the Wild West was somebody has your back When the chips are down. You don't ever forget it. And it is a funny relationship between Doc Holliday in the Herb brothers. They just always seemed to love each other. They were always there for each other and kind of an odd combo, but that's who they were. Now, let's wrap up this story with the part that you know in love the part from the movie Tombstone. Eventually, Doc finds himself in tombstone. This was not an accident, and that is one thing that would be screwed up. He didn't just stumble on the Europe's one day walking through town. The herbs had gotten to Tombstone. And they'd gotten to tombstone and invited Doc by letter. Hey, come on down to Tombstone. Think we could make a bunch of money gambling here? Silver mining here also doing law man stuff. That's another thing. The movie got wrong. They didn't move their toe to avoid being involved in law enforcement. They very much wanted to be involved in law enforcement. Just maybe not. For Maybe not for the best reasons in the world. Remember Big nose Kate, the Entertaining young lady that Doc cast for a long term girlfriend. She hated the herbs because, she said they were legalized criminals. Apparently they would use their badge and very various ways that would profit them. And Tombstone may have been the craziest of all these places. Yes, there was a huge criminal gang. They're called the Cowboys. Cattle rustlers stage coach, But it was it was multiple factions in Tombstone, and virtually all of them seemed to be corrupt. The sheriffs were corrupt. The Cowboys were corrupt. The herbs were corrupt. Doc was corrupt that the entire town was just a den of corruption and horrible crime. The norm. It got to be expected. If you were riding in and out of town on a stage coach, which that's how you got in and out of town. You would expect to be robbed. That was simply a normal people would have Stage coach bags, meaning you would have a bag with a bunch of goods and stuff and it not everything. You know you would try to make it look like it was everything. And you would just simply have it with you for when you got pulled over with a gun in your face. Oh, hey, I guess it's time for my daily robbing here. Take my bag. There is Some evidence that the herbs were participating in some of these stage copes robberies. What, Chris? It's not my fault. The Cowboys did too. And they were often times working together. The herbs in the Cowboys believe it or not not always arch enemies. But eventually in a gigantic gang land place like this, there's going to be tension. And then there gets to be a lot of tension, and they're always drinking all the time. And the herbs do eventually take over. Virgil Herb does take over as the head of law enforcement and the movie did get it right that curly bill. He did kill Fred White. He did kill the law man and the herbs arrested him for it. And that made the Cowboys mad. And then they arrested a couple other cowboys and that made a man. And eventually there's a gunfight in the OK corral, and that's false. There's a gunfight like a block away from the OK corral in a vacant lot, but they didn't know what to call it, so they simply said, gunfight at the OK Corral. There was a gunfight. It was the Earth Brothers and Doc Holliday against four of the Cowboys. And yes, just like in the movie, Doc Holliday was as deadly as advertised. Opened up somebody's chest with a double barrel shotgun. Also, just like the movie. Virgil did take a shot in the leg and still managed to shoot somebody and kill somebody. This was a big deal in the town. The Cowboys. Not necessarily unjustified, said What did we do wrong? Why did we have to get in a gunfight? The member the herbs and Doc Holliday came to the Cowboys at the O. K. Corral Mott vice versa. There was a massive funeral where people were pro testing the corruption of the Earth Brothers. I know that's a bit of a bubble burst like I don't know what to believe. I don't believe any of these people were good people, All right? It was a crazy time made for crazy man. Yes. The Morgan, the younger brother did end up getting killed by the Cowboys. And Virgil got ambushed, almost got killed. I shot him in the arm, and that's why he lost the use of his arm. And yes, why it Herb and Doc Holliday did catch the Cowboys trying to ambush Virgil again and finish him off at the train station and they killed those guys. And then they went around killing other cowboys and just this gigantic vendetta. Try to wrap up our story here. I know you're wondering if the Johnny Ringo portion of the movie was real. There was a guy named Johnny Ringo. He did challenge Wyatt ERP to a fight. Doc Holliday did step up and say, I'm your Huckleberry just like in the movie. What happened after that. I'll.
