"There's Fred Warner afterwards, saying it's tough to see Jason Brett, especially after all the work he's done in the injuries he's had in the past. Go down. Good news is the 49 dropped 41 17 They hold on 43 33 a lot of good to talk about, But obviously, after major injury like that, That's we're going to start Jason Britain in the secondary. Looks like he's out for the year with an A C L. Let's talk to the aforementioned Donte Whitner at 90. Wittner. Make sure you follow a great job with the pre and post with Joe and the crew yesterday, and he joins us courtesy of the magazine. Hi, Dante. How are you? Are you guys doing Well, we're kind of torn, right? I mean, you get the win, but obviously you're feeling bad for Verrett. Yeah, You feel extremely bad. Eveready fall back in so many devastating injuries, Patella tendon, Achilles, multiple HCL and arguably was the best defender during training camp. You know, so he was looking forward to, you know, showing the world that you know he was the top five corner in the league and to see him go down for the nine contact injury. Basically, you know exactly depth. It's devastating and heartbreaking. Yeah, Without question. We'll figure out what the football team does, but just speak to Jason and I saw you know, after the game coming out on crutches, and he was still welling up. He stopped and And gave me a hug and watching this guy play, too. When he was a young player with the San Diego Chargers in 2015 was a pro ball player. You you listed all the different injuries is terrible. Injuries in the eight finally got healthy last year, and he played great. But because of the pandemic, the salary cap went down. He wound up signing a one year deal. For $5.5 million. Not a camp is going to go up to over two. Oh, eight. I mean, just from a financial standpoint. Uh, he lost a lot of money yesterday. Nancy, We're talking. Maybe 25 30 $35 million, he would have got in a contract if he played. This year, the way he played last year. We did, and they're so unpredictable as to what will happen when an injury would happen. And that's why players talk about getting paid and locking up a guaranteed money. That's why you're here so often. And last year was a buyer's market ownership. Didn't want to pay the players. You know they didn't make a lot of money. They lost a lot of money with the pandemic, so it was just bad timing and you hate the theaters happen to guys. You understand what he's going through. I understand what he's going through, but it doesn't make it any easier. Dante. Witness. Join us the 40 Niners Hold on in Detroit yesterday. 41 33 bracing for the bad news officially on Jason Verrett in the knee. So from a football perspective, how badly does this hurt? Tremendously. Yeah. Um, you know, they were relying on him to play a lot of top receivers, and they have a lot in their division. He was the number one corner. Playing basically like a top up corner in the league. Now you have to figure out what you're going to do. And they were already seeing at the cornerback position when the season started yesterday. So now you have some guys on the street. You have, uh, our old friend Richard Sherman out there. Well, I can guarantee you that he's in the best shape that he's probably ever been in. And he wants the opportunity to prove that he's still the top point in his league, so I'll go on record, saying that even though Richard Herman is not a hurricane To the top 10 corn in the league, especially in this system that he knows like the back of his hand. That's easy fit. Yes, and the 40. Niners do talk to him on a regular basis. John legend Adam Peters and Kyle even acknowledged it. He's got a little bit of a legal situation he's going to have to get through. And that probably wouldn't be a uh, addition you can make until October, but I hear you, but let's just start with the with the in House candidates. And I want to start with Josh Norman. Um, because you played with him, You know, coming off his best year and Carolina when he was a first team all pro. He got the franchise tag, and then he didn't sign it right away. And Marty Hurney and Carolina got pissed rescinded it. He wound up signing a lucrative deal to go to Washington. And you were there with them for their 2016 years. I've always thought he was more of his own corner. Kind of like Richard Sherman, which is not a slide of the guy, but I think he's more of a A guy who wants to play a little bit off kind of soft and off. Is that an accurate breakdown of Josh Norman? And what do you think about his game right now? Don t accurate depiction of Josh Norman, you know, But as we get older, we lose a little bit. You know, even though we don't want to admit it. And it takes a lot of communication with your teammates. Just come in, implement somebody after a week of practice. That much more communication that goes on out there than just putting a guy out there and say, Hey, play covered three plates number four. All right. What about when he have bunch formations? What about when they motion it shift? What about what we're playing man to man to get her to man Fact what's the communication there? It takes a while to develop back chemistry. And it takes a while for Josh Norman Norman to learn a type of terminology and what means what and what coverage and zone blitz and man It's so much to learn, Um, maybe five duty when they go to a nickel packages give him certain coverages to work on, but for the asked them to come in after two weeks. And these are number one corner and base nickel dime. I don't know if you can do it. Dante, the young guys De'andre Lynn or played yesterday and he didn't get tested out a whole lot. But I would imagine that in the short term, if if we can assume Mosul would come back against Philly, would you think Lynn or would be on the other side? And how would you feel about that? The other thing. It would be liner will be Dontae Johnson at the moment was inspired duty from Josh Norman that he gets up to speed. Eleanor. I think he has five targets you only gave of one. That's what I saw in pro football focus. What tells me that you know the game wasn't too big for them. But when you go into a game early in the week, the coaching staff notice you're going to be out there that can prepare for you. They can attack your weaknesses. They noticed a young guy. And that's when he will get tested. So you know we'll see how it goes moving forward. But, yeah, I would say Dontae Johnson older nor will be the opposite Emanuel mostly. All right early in the game when the 40 nine's were rolling. Still, the lion's got after them as far as running the football. Jamal Williams and DeAndre Swift had some big runs in the game. And now going to Philadelphia. Jalen hurts. Just live in the run game as a quarterback, and they've got a running game..

"So adam schefter look ahead to training camp and the fifty days it'll transpire between now and the start of the regular season. Gimmie three storylines watching and count them down for me where you're from three to one. We'll start number three and let's start with the april mentioned denver broncos and the quarterback battle the table. We'll have a camp this summer. Maybe bridgewater's drouot. While they monitor to shawn watson while they monitor our rogers while they do whatever but this is one of the teams that's out. There truly has an undecided quarterback situation. They don't know full wind up. Starting an opening day aren't many of those situations in the league. Denver has won the number two story like toys. Training camp is to be the houston texans and to shawn watson those shawn watson show up training camp next week. The houston texans. Excuse him how does this play out the texas crate him. I think a lot of people around league. Don't believe that watson we'll wind up playing against the houston texans. How did the texans handle that. And what are they going forward. And what is watson. Do feed question going. Kim but the number one question to training camp undoubtedly fizzy month milwaukee bucks minority owner in nba. Champion our rogers. And whether or not he shows up the training camp. How approaches this summer. How he feels about this team for the upcoming season. They're all sorts of issues. You follow the break from z. Turned on the contract extension. They haven't been able to make progress in the in person. Meetings will ultimately what aaron rodgers decides to do this summer but that has to be the number one storyline going to training camps. Mentioned wondering how he feels about that team. We don't have to wonder how he feels about that basketball team of which he's a part owner tweeted this after they won the championship last night. Incredible job by west and marked. Peter jon horror star. Gm made some incredible moves in our stars played like stars. Can't stop thirty. Four hashtag champs ryan clark. Is it just me or do you think that aaron tweeting compliments to the milwaukee bucks front office tim throwing shade at the packers front office that just may or either sunshine and i needed some shade and i think aaron rodgers were providing whatever rogers is doing era just sitting at the table with his significant other being like man. Janas sure looks happy with those trophies. How did you see that drew holiday. They got free honest. How about their brook lopez. They gave him you know. What about the pj. Tucker that they got from houston all those things seem really nice. You see those two trophies holding. He looks really happy when he started next nuggets from chick-fil-a today absolutely he only say it's a call people out by name. You know what name. He didn't say brian as a gm. Brian rooney kiss. Because brian eight. Somebody he likes what he made. Sure he named everybody and then when he named the jimmy said our gm. He's letting. you know that. I see you milwaukee. I see you doing the right. Things for your star. You should look at what they do for their star ryan because clearly you ate during the right thing ryan to keep me there. And that's why. I don't watch a little funky contract because it's about my feelings. My feelings are involved ryan. I don't have no logic. Have no fresh. I'm breach rich and be out of here. Ryan go piece. that's how i feel. I don't know if there's a whole lot to add to the ten. We're six days away reporting to can't do you think that aaron rodgers will be i do i do. I look it ryan saying brian. Listen here's i listen. Green bay's best situation is with aaron rodgers. The quarterback aaron's best situation to win the super bowl is to go back to greenback his chance. End up somewhere else was prior to the draft that is common gone and so do i think it'll show up. I do do. I think that he will make life miserable for the people that he is. Angry with in green bay are think he'll do that too but he's played at such a high level. I think he realizes that no matter. How many is it ryan. Clark's read about this. It's personal no matter. How mad he is. There still thinks he wants to accomplish for himself. Which is why i think he ends up back in green bay. Tim accomplish from himself like what now the super bowl atom win api old on if he goes to green bay and wins the super bowl. That means that there might be somebody out there tweeting. What a great job. Mr murphy did. What a great anybody. If anybody with a brain is gonna go look at. What a great job. Aaron rodgers did with them listening. Y'all know how it is when someone is scorned in a relationship right. It's not about that. They wanna see themselves do well. They just want to see the other person do. It's not like hey let's go do great things together. And if i go do great things i get all that. No he doesn't want them to get any credit and he feels like he goes there. He plays well. They win the super bowl to sit around and say we did. The right things ever know what they brian not happening. We're gonna find out together next week when the packers reporter. Aaron is there but we have time today for one more thing and oddly enough. It's about quarterbacks. Being annoyed with front offices tom brady in a town hall with jim. Gray airing tonight on sirius. Xm talked about his mindset during last year's free agency and it's clear he still thinks two teams that were interested made a big mistake. It's fine. I mean everyone's got a choice to choose what you realize. Is that not as many smart people as you think. I assisted reality. I think it'd be a no brainer if you said. Hey you got a chance to get Wayne gretzky on your team or you get a chance that michael jordan nineteen. We don't need them. You know thanks. We're we're good. I my mind i'm thinking. Okay well let me go. Let me go. Show those teams what they're missing. Love this radio show happy. He's not in new england and he has to play the humble modest one hundred ninety nine peak. I'm so glad that he is sochi. Mean he thoroughly and he is he is colored people how he feels he is right if you had a chance to get done and they even took season you're right. "Last season just in herbert took the league by storm. Throwing a rookie record thirty one touchdowns look to carry that success into your to and could join hall of famer dan marino as the only quarterbacks in nfl history with sixty plus touchdowns through their first two seasons chase. Throwing all the run touchdown herbert's rookie. Success came despite playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. The chargers ranked thirty first in past win. Rate last season that could change after l. a. Signed three new projected starters in free agency and use their first round pick on northwestern offensive. Tackle on slater. There's also room for improvement. Late in games chargers while herbert had an overall touchdown to interception ratio of twenty seven to six in the first three quarters. Those numbers dropped to four touchdowns and four interceptions in the fourth quarter and overtime last year. So tim how impressed were you with what you saw from justin herbert as a rookie dan last year. We're talking about how we had this bizarre off season and so the biggest challenge is going to be rookie. Quarterbacks and i feel like you know because of the joe borough injury. I think everyone understands that situation in cincinnati. There's a lot of attention onto and kind of the back and forth with ryan fitzpatrick. But let's just take a look at. What justin herbert did. i mean. He was rookie of the year. For a reason and think about the situation he was thrown into. He basically thought he was going to start the backup. And because of a freak injury to tyrod taylor where it gets a punctured lung justin. Herbert goes from being the backup to starting the entire season and then essentially playing as well as any rookie has played in many respects. So i think the sky is the limit for him as a player physically. He's as talented as the most talented guys that are in the league right now and that means guys like josh allen guys like patrick mahomes. He is physically that talented. And so i think as he plays more in a system that he becomes more familiar with. He's just going to get better and better than and tim. Just we're talking about fred warner being type of guy that the forty niners wanted to reward when you talk to people within the chargers organization. They say it's not just the talent that stands out about justin herbert. It's the intangibles. The way he approaches the game his maturity level his intelligence everything about him stands out and shines and when they watch this guy in training camp last summer they could see that he had star potential written all over him. It's all part of the human. Patrick mahomes from the same division and somebody that can actually arrive on plate with patrick mahomes overtime. There aren't many quarterbacks in the league. Deca do that justin. Herbert is good enough to hold his own. And give this team a chance for the next decade plus that it will have to go up against patrick mahomes justin. Herbert is one of the great young stars in the nfl. One of the interesting things about that. Note there about how they feel about him as a leader in terms of you know the stuff off the field when you think about some of the criticism of him coming out. It was dizzy of the personality. Is he too quiet. Can command a huddle came to be a leader in the locker room. Those were a lot of the things that people were wondering if you were going to get that out of herbert was he just a big athletic guy. That was dominating at the college level. Or is he somebody that has the presence that you need to be a star at the quarterback position. And it's clear. He's already having that impact. Last season he recorded the third best. Qbr by a rookie quarterback in the last fifteen years behind a couple of guys named dak prescott and russell wilson who are now very wealthy. He of course has a new coaching staff this year. And that got us thinking about some of the other new coaching staffs around the league ones. We're watching including robert saw with the jets. Tim solid comes over from the forty niners. He was defensive coordinator. How do you think he's going to do in new york i think he's gonna bring a positive change. Their talent has gotten better over the past few years. And i think his the way. He's grown as a coach. The head coach is he's been out from guys like gary kubiak akal shanahan or pete carroll the relationship business of being a head coach. I think excel at. That team will be better for his first shot at being a head coach. Detroit dan campbell is getting his second remember. He was interim head coach in miami. Some years back obviously campbell a guy. It's charged with changing just about everything about the culture in detroit. Anybody who's ever listened to one. Dan campbell's news conferences. Knows he's a guy that's not shy about putting his stamp on things. This is dc in our seat. I'm daniel. I'm a former two division champions and i'm a bad mammoth jam. Yes he is. And i'm ryan clark former super bowl champ. Be sure to follow our new podcast wherever you can. We wanna talk inmate. We're gonna talk sports life. We're just gonna have a great. It's going to be a ton of fun is fun. Our dc darcy is ready to roll. That's dc in our seat. Follow wherever you. Listen to. All your podcast. Pittsburgh steelers aren't going away from training camp. This year they're having in heinz field in pittsburgh day. steelers coach. mike. Tomlin is not excited. Get going you could not be more wrong. But i love what i do. I loved misery. You know what people might be misery. Nobody loves camp like the way we love. You know what i mean. We all energy into the experience that have been that we work with that. Play the game. You gotta find a way to take all the things that you learned but make sure that you don't lose your voice skin. i think that's probably the most significant lessons. That i learned from from being around coach dungy to be quite honest i was around him and it didn't take very long before i realized that man. I can't do it by him. Yeah i can glean information from american gain perspective. But i better not try to do it. Life him well it. His own ways worked out. Pretty well for mike tomlin so far fourteen seasons as an nfl head coach and not a single one with a losing record that is tied with marty schottenheimer for the longest such streak by a head. Coach started his career in the history of the nfl and thankfully we are joined now by ryan. Clark pittsburgh steeler nose mike. Tomlin welcome having played form ryan showing just in time to talk about his former coach. You played for for nine years. What comes to mind when you hear him. Talk about camp and misery actual misery. And that's the cool part. You know i think me and coach tomlin will probably two of the only people in the world that ever shared in the fact that we love training camp. I would go to training camp without a tv and he would love to see me when i showed up because he no. We both felt the same way about the process. This is the process of getting your team hard and this is the process of putting your team in place to where they share the same exact mindset as you do and guys trust me when you go to wake. We went away to camp. It was actually fun. I mean it was no kids there. You'd have to worry about significant others all you can do. All you had to.

"The dallas cowboys out. And that's why. I think the fact that he's on his second defensive coordinator mike mccarthy's on his second defensive coordinator in just two seasons. Like if it works with dan quinn. Then that's great. That's part of the evaluation. Mike mccarthy but if the defense struggles the way they did a year ago which was ethically bad. If that happens then the pressure is not gonna fall back on dan. Quinn is going to go right back to mike mccarthy so i think how that side of the ball plays which enlarge which is really going to be the responsibility of dan. Quinn in those players is still going to be in mike mccarthy's lap or we're gonna all get to find out starting pretty soon as we mentioned only fifty days now until the cowboys opened the regular season in tampa against the defending super bowl champion so with players getting back on the field. This is also the time of year. When some veteran players get contract extensions earlier today the san francisco forty niners locked in a key part of their defense. Adam philipson on that. Dan fred warner player. Some consider the best linebacker in football agree to a five year. Ninety million dollar extension with the forty niners you see the guaranteed money. Forty a half million dollars. It's ninety five million dollars. Tension agent justin show among the forty niners worked on this the last two weeks. They exchanged proposals. They got the deal done this morning. You see the guaranteed money on the contract and how it compares to some of the other great players in the league of big contract for a big time playing reasons that the forty niners awardee fridge warner who was a former third-round traffic headed into the last year was contract. Is they believe he embodies everything. They're looking for in a player on and off the field on the field is exactly what you want arguably the best linebacker in football and off the field. He's a model of what the forty niners are looking for. Exactly the type of representative that they weren't in san francisco thus along turned deal that justin showman and the forty niners banged out today. The forty niners haven't been shy about signing cornerstone players over the past year. We've seen big deals for tight end. George kill offensive. Tackle trent williams. And now fred warner do own or rent your home share you and i bet it can be hard work you know. It's easy bundling policies with geico. "No wait is over an nfl training. Campus here steelers in the cowboys and playing in this year's hall of fame game that report to cap today on opposite ends of the country. The cowboys or southern california steelers pittsburgh gloss in just fifty days. The buccaneers and the cowboys will kick off. Twenty twenty one regular season tampa bay. They thursday september ninth. We all most welcome to nfl. Lie on this wednesday. Dan grazziano adam. Schefter tim hasselbeck. Wind clark's around here somewhere. We're looking for around him up and he will join us later. We're going to start with the dallas cowboys. One of two teams reporting to training camp today out in oxnard california where a cool breezes blowing in off the pacific ocean and we find our own. Ed word is. Hey ed. what's the oxnard perfect weather conditions. Practice doesn't start till tomorrow but the cowboys did have their opening press conference in raw. Being forced to follow unique protocols in fact Media members covering camp are forced to wear these tracking devices fit present vaccination records negative cova test a despite all that with a chair. Spaced out six feet apart for the media. Press conference today jerry. Jones walked apart from stephen jones and mike mccarthy came in and went over and shook hands with a bunch of different media people myself not included unfortunately But it was interesting that that that during the actual event jones became emotional several times during that press conference and once was the result of the gratitude he has for the cowboys returning here to southern california for training camp. Fat jones said he could be anywhere in the world. But there's no other place he'd rather be at this time. While describing kovic protection is more difficult. Never ever jones said there are a number of players in the pipeline. He said in terms of their vaccinations and only a handful of not had at least one shot. He does not believe that the protocols in place or the teams vaccination rate will put the cowboys at a competitive disadvantage. We have out of our ninety players here. We have a handful that in my mind have still to commit to this. A handful hand and hand has five. And that's that's if he in that several of in my mind of that finger of five or on their way to potentially have in their vaccine was not particularly on a percent on board with the what the vaccination but through the relationships that we're fortunate to have a medical community Your your watch. You watch your listen. And i think that same approach was was given to our players and to be able to watch the science the numbers and so forth and then know made a conscious decision to get the vaccination. Well there were several interesting moments here today. And one of them reflected two different philosophies between jones and his head coach. Mccarthy said nearly crashed the truck he was driving when jones called the. Tell him the cowboys. Training camp would be chronicle by the hbo show. hard knocks. Mccarthy then laughed and said once he got the vehicle back on the road that he was all in. But dan i think it reflects at jones arguably the best marketer in the entire sportsworld and mccarthy like most coaches value secrecy to the point that remember last year during the inter squad. Game a cowboy stadium. He removed all the numbers from the cowboys jersey. So perhaps jerry one this argument because jerry paparazzi's because mccarthy had very little leverage with the owner after six ten first season in dallas is going to want those numbers on their once the cameras come on once they do. Ezekiel elliott one of the prime prominent players. That will keep an eye on coming off a really rough twenty thousand finished with the fewest rushing yards fewest touchdowns and most fumbles. He's ever had in a season. Tough year for zeke ed. What are the cowboys expecting from him. This year following the worst season of his career. You know zeke elliott two-time rushing champion dedicated himself to improve his conditioning with a private running backs coach. Josh hicks working regularly with him in dallas to create an opportunity to be more productive. And i think no having dak prescott and healthy offensive. Line would certainly help as well whether he ever has. A chance to contend for rushing titles under mike mccarthy seems unlikely to me but he can certainly be an invaluable part of a winning team dallas finished third in the nfc going six and ten and struggling with those injuries to dak prescott on the offensive line. As ed just mentioned ed thanks. We're gonna have more from you later in the show back to ezekiel elliott fell average career lows last year in rushing yards per game and yards per rush and in total ahead to sixteen rushing yards above expectation which ranked thirty third among the fifty. One running back at least one hundred carries. That is not ezekiel elliott level production. Adam zeke's buddy dak prescott quarterback coming off a significant leg injury. What are you hearing about the cowboys. Plans for him as they start camp. Dan and that was one of the big headlines that came out of today's press conferences with jerry jones. Mike mccarthy the fact that dak prescott is ready for training camp and basically cleared for football activities will be ready to go with the out. There will be practicing after that grizzly injuries that he suffered last year did sign the big contract under winter right ankle surgery in october but is healthy and he will be out there during training camp regular rats going through drills and that is a very encouraging sign for dallas team looking back to bounce back from the six and ten season. That has edward alluded compromise. Some mccarthy's leverage in terms of the cowboys being are knox. No doubt about that. Tim when you look at this cowboys team obviously the quarterback dak prescott signs. The big contract always pressure on him. Who you think is under the most pressure in that building in dallas. I think it's mike mccarthy. And i'm not saying mike. Mccarthy is in danger of losing his job but at referred to the season a year ago adam just mentioned it when we look back at his overall coaching record as the head. Coach of the dallas cowboys. People aren't going to say. Oh but that was injured that one year. Oh they have the distraction of hard knocks the next year. Or hey we're going through a pandemic. No one cares about that stuff when they evaluate a toast. And when you think about why. Mike mccarthy is in dallas it's because jason garrett even though he won more games than he lost as the head. Coach dallas cowboys. He didn't get them to where they ultimately wannabe which is as superbowl champs. and so. i think that you go in. Hire a super bowl winning coach so that you aren't nine and seven or eight or thirteen and three even and then get bumped out of the postseason. He's there because they expect to win a super bowl and so i think the pressure is on him because there are many pieces on the offensive side at least that are in place for him to have success will tip. Guess what if they have a down season. One of the joneses is not going to go fire another jones. They've already fired. The defensive coordinator in mike nolan and replaced him with dan. Quinn so now the pressure will be une somebody else and for years. How many years do we go through this will. We were wondering about jason carrots future. And it's amazing to me that were one year into the tenure of mike mccarthy in dallas and feels like it's going the same direction as jason garrett will be constant attention constant scrutiny constant speculation about the head coach. But that's what happens in this league really in any city where there's not consistent winning especially in the city where the family runs the organization and especially with a team. That's under as much scrutiny. As america's team.

"So armstead kittle williams. And now you have fred. Warner forgotten blanked on for a second fred warner and now who's next so nick. Ondeck probably next off season at the earliest. But what are they going to try to ride it out for another year. You have to make a decision on deebo samuel brandon. You coming up. So it'll be interesting to see who they pay next. What do you think happens. I should think it's going to be mike mcglinchey. I think mike lynch ea hasn't resurgent season this season. If we believe what. Michael junior told our producer rob guerrero couple of weeks ago that You know he looks comfortable in his pass. It not as a run blocker you can play well. This season i could see the forty niners Before us i think we're still two years out of an extension for him right not taken And that's going to be. They picked up his option. Picked up his option for twenty twenty to eleven million so after that he's essentially going to be a free agent so i i'm fascinated to see how much he gets paid and how much people hate that. He's going to get paid because he is a good player. And you keep good players around. I know it's very hard concept understand. But he's young he's effective any plays. Yeah he missed a few games. Twenty nine thousand nine but to think that mcglinchey won't ever improve is not fair to think that all the problems are on him and not the revolving door right guard next to him is also missing a lot of import context so perhaps the reason that they drafted. Aaron banks was knowing that. Hey i need to fix this position but it also ensures that my right tackle doesn't have to worry about the guy next to him as well so it'll be a nice. Yeah it'll be a nice little domino effect for mcglinchey. But now i completely forgot about immigrants you but that's going to happen. It's just a matter of how much and They tend to take care of their players. How do you feel about one of the beat. Writers today brought up. Well what about. You should have done this with the forest. Buckner our favorite beat writer. When are you ever going. When are we going to close that book. Turn the page and do you think has merit like do you think this should have been a buckner decision. Yeah actually appreciate the beat writers getting a little spicy Change in dynamic is usually pretty manila. So i appreciate it but i mean come on. We're we're two years path of divorce butter situation We've talked about over over and over again. These situations aren't comparable off against the cap. They had to make a move a first round pick. Let's just let's just move on fourth buckner van player And you know. It's very similar. Fred warner high character died but you get from him and if devante law balls out the season no one's going to bat so we're we're taking but you know i appreciate been. There's always going to be somebody that bats in high so you can never rule out this lovely fan base man no. it's. I'm glad that fred warner got paid. I can't wait to see what's next What else do we need to tackle here. I feel like a pretty much. Not sarah is perfect timing So normally we record on tuesday nights and it's ready to go stats. Does this thing to the next morning ready to go this week. Just kinda worked out that. We can report to wednesday morning. We woke up literally. I woke up in. My phone's buzzy was warners contract extension itself perfect timing. I'm glad it happened. Blabber able to give our takeaways hopefully listen to it training camps around the corner. I think they report later this week. Right in six days as i write twenty sevens and officially doesn't begin to thirty first so we're edging closer towards the bossy the next time we speak We will we will talk about the offense and then after that we will be having live. not library downs but just breakdowns of training camp practice. Oh it's here and fred warners. Contract proves at its here because he was not stepping on that field without a new contract. Everybody near that. So it's it's good to get that out of the way with a week or so to spare and we didn't have to worry about you know running up to the quote unquote deadline of training. Camp is going to report. What's going on are they going to pay. Is this going to trickle into august and possibly the preseason so don't have to worry about any of those story lines got it out of the way now. We just focused on football in the australian lances contract. He's still unsigned. I expect him to get signed. Hopefully in the next week he will not step on the field without a contract. I don't know what the holdup is these rookie contracts fairly straightforward He's a tom condon guy. Who's a high level agent affect that deal to get done as well. I expect capital. He's run six million dollar range and should be awful sailing from there but another interesting. You know trent williams and breadwinner both got paid off season. They both got a combined. Eighty million dollars. Guarantee the trent williams deal. If you remember went down the middle of the night. I remember to three in the morning front wings on instagram or united twitter crazy. This one a lot. Different You know early in the morning smoothly on a week before training camp no worries and have their franchise locked down if you're a fans in exciting time because after best players under contract next. Xp four five years destroy landscape. Pai before tuesday. Which is i would say. Tuesday july twenty seven when they report as a team dray will get the bag for tuesday. Good get him on the field. No excuses let's get paid. Get him on the field and let him compete. That'll do it for us cannot wait to talk about actual football man. I'm excited feels like five years. Since last time there was football game Please as always rate subscribe review. Leave us five stars wherever it is. You get your podcast and as always follow me.

"Low expectations. So they figure okay. This is the expected tax rate. What's the actual act. Rate was difference. Fred warners was minus sixteen in half. And that's the best mark any defensive players in two thousand seventeen so not just any linebacker Player in the last five years Only three linebackers posted a completion. Rate below fifty five percent edmark. Barron was the other one. He's a converted safety. So fred warner's the only true linebacker that fits that mole and just fantastic play as coverage linebacker And i think people don't give them enough credit for that versatility. He brought his past season. I mean a lot of people. I think at twenty nineteen thought that the linebacker play was really benefited from the fact that they had such a stout defensive line for them yet. I thought fred warner shattered that narrative this past season when You know the four hundred was completely banged up. They didn't have the same password. Yes fred warner was just as effective as coverage player against the run in even contributed I think you russell passer ninety three times and he recorded thirty thirteen pressures both career highs so his versatility has been improving your ear and now under go ryan's i think he's gonna taste that four as is even more aggressive as fast and it's only you know i think only gonna get better than fred moore's centerpiece of that so i don't get the takes that they overpaid for. What are the outer supposed to meet player at a position of need. But what else was supposed to be paid player. And you will take care of that blair homegrown player face of the franchise player. I it's not often that the numbers match up with the eye test. Because you can manipulate a lot of these things. But warner last year was one of two players yet. That had more than one hundred tackles two or more pass defense to a more interceptions and one or more fumble recovery He allowed at one point. I believe it was up until week. Sixteen i don't have a final number. He was allowing three point nine yards per target which is unreal. And just the fact that he's asked to do what he does. I remember i was talking to a former quarterback on the forty niners roster new told me they have a check where anytime a defense goes or the offense goes empty. They just have worn bogarde. The receiver. Who else can say that. They have a linebacker. They're comparable with guarding. Whether it's you know. Cooper got a hollywood brown whatever the type of receive it is and we've seen him. We've seen him care. Receivers down the middle of the field. And he's running in stride with him. He's remember julian edmund. He's taken routes underneath. He just does so many things where It's it's hard not to justify paying him honestly so emam..

"Welcome to shanta plan. This is episode forty nine. We have some football to talk about. I'm joined by a as always a cost. What's going on. Man was advocate Finally excited to have some real football news in not just the office dribble that we were talking about the so. The forty niners paid. Fred warner the was never in doubt and thankfully we did not have to suffer through summer of hashtags. But the forty niners made fred warner the highest paid linebacker in the nfl. How long will that be. I do not know because you know. Roquan smith is coming next year. Darius leonard is coming more than likely within a couple of months if not before. The season starts but fred warner. Five years ninety. Five million forty. Five million guaranteed was a forty million guaranteed A lot of money guaranteed five as forty point five air. It is just a great for him. So i was born in san diego. He's from san diego. This is great to see you know people in the city come up. I like that. Obviously one of the best players one of the best defensive players. nfl Just throughout this morning we've been seeing that people are saying he's the best coverage linebacker the nfl. Which is true. But i think it's fair to say that fred warner's one of the best coverage players in the. Nfl is it's important to make that distinction and he just means so much to this team and he signed through the next wet through. Twenty twenty. six is a big deal. wars Your initial takeaways. When you saw this deal go down. Reggie think overpay but did you think you know. We're kind of expecting it to ballpark right. Fred warner embodies. Exactly what a franchise player. It's drafted in the third round as the tuner and works. His way up in is now at the top position. All pro player on the field at high character off field. Hatton leader available. I tweeted out. He's played at least ninety. Three percent of the defensive snaps. The last three seasons which highest on the forty niners also available reliable. It's exactly what you want in a player. And the last time coordinators had player of his caliber deforest buckner joseph trade him for a first round pick And us out on germont kin law this time around. It didn't have that option surly. They chose to go ahead. And pay warner i have no problem with the contract. Nick in the highest paid linebacker. But you mentioned when these new deals getting for roquan smith their slender most likely warner's annual average values gonna draw but i've got no problem with it Ah logical bring a positional value when it comes to paying players A premium yet. I allow people misunderstand. What framework brings to the field. Whether it's in coverage you know we talk about cars. Dance goes ryan back covers. Slot receivers And his numbers are right there with any defensive back and then he turned that around. He's good run Yet career high pressures. I believe in pass rushes on this past season. So he added that element asked the package linebacker. Exactly what you want player. Glad they got the deal done week before training camp and we didn't get any silly. There is an elite player. So on the forty niners. He's top three coverage top three pass rush top Run stop everything. You want on defense. He's there and you mentioned just him being a team player. He puts the team first. And i remember Last year he had the interception where he jumped believe. It was against the giants and after that he didn't take credit for he. He said i gotta give credit to tart and he went in basically gave a long answer explaining how tarp saw this during the week and fast forward. Oj's he asking. why didn't you skip. You don't have new contract. what are you doing. you can risk this and he said. I put my teammates. I i'm not gonna you know this is what i do so i think having that type of mindset just makes it so easy to keep him around market him a he should be one of the faces of the nfl. He really that good. He's young and he's a marketable guys. He's a fun guy to be around so it's good to see guys like that. Get reward paid because you mentioned not having the third round pick everybody you know we always point back to the first round is but hitting on these second third fourth round picks like that's really build your rosser and build them. Just become a playoff caliber team. And that's what they are. And that's why the forty nine niners to have a very strong very strong roster right now so three highest paid players at their position. Even though it's not gonna last long we talked a little bit about that is that a problem is going to be an issue. Going forward Prom they've got a quarterback on a rookie contract who isn't going to eat much of the salary cap. So the four nine hundred setting themselves up for trailing to takeover make six million dollars a season and you spill the gaps everywhere else so no problem with Pay guys premium especially when we expect a salary cap to really rise years here Postcode at one of the one of the big worries that you know a lot of people mentioned were was jimmy garoppolo's contract going to stop the team from doing what they wanted to do and disease move proved that it did not yeah. I don't think it had as much of an impact as we thought. I think the biggest thing for that was the market or merrin corners the market for collies check and some of the players. That were free agents Avocation brat minion mosaic Tar iran get a premium yet. Didn't really right so they all came back one year. More proven deals and that gave the forty niners sort of the freedom to be able to go ahead. Keep jimmy garoppolo. Still draft quarterback and fred were an extension so a fantastic work with the front office right salary. Cap guys prog murphy. brian jeff. Diamond all those guys at work in the front office at crunch numbers. They did halbe jobs. Off season in putting together this roster i think one of the warriors was. You know an ad or is isn't the right way to say just because they signed samson had become but could they have gotten a better pass rush. Maybe who was worth like two or three million more and then you go down the line. Would they have been interested more. Would they have gone in harder. On a julio jones type of player so in that sense maybe but in the big picture they were able to get what they needed to and jimmy still on the roster so you have a veteran you have rookie and then you were able to bring back your core and maintain your core which is a big deal. So some of the takes surrounding fred warner. This morning there is a lot of people have have not watched fred warner and most of it comes back to just being a linebacker and off while linebacker isn't really valued in the nfl. And you can just look at how. They're paid before obviously This contract and i think actually warner being paid. What he's paid is a good thing and tells you that he is really that valuable but you know a lot of people they look at warner and they think that it's a terrible misunderstanding of the positional value. Because they see ninety five and five. And that's all that really matters but you ignore a lot of what they do or what does as a player so the analytics crowd thinks that you don't pay off ball linebacker because you wanna have a stronger coverage unit so overpaying for an off ball linebacker. They don't bit like it's the cost effective way to go about building your team. Which ignores the fact. That fred warner is the best coverage linebacker in the nfl and one of the best coverage players. The nfl if you were to name ten the top team coverage players in the nfl. It'd be very hard to make that list and not list warner so. Context is missing here. But that's what happens on the internet. i'm going to various leonard. Stop months ago and you know. I've seen a ton of comments. Like oh he's overrated. He's not as good as darius leonard. This not even true. They're not playing the same sport. What what were some of the some of the texture you saw. Did it drive you crazy to it. Did and a lot of the takes are just people. See fred warner. They see linebacker. The highest paid linebacker. He forty million he nine million dollars total and they just think that's too much for not linebacker like you mentioned yet. Was the numbers behind. What fred warren has done past season passer rating loud sixty or a nfl dot com Stats tracks this stat..

"Nfl history for for yards in their first sixteen starts behind. Patrick mahomes and andrew luck like there's no reason so it's like okay. You take that. From nick mullins. And then you insert trae lance who is not an undrafted free agent who it was a bona fide. Top four top three pick in this draft to where it's yeah he. He's going to be pretty good. So this whole thank you now. It seems little petty. If you had asked me. I agree weird weird. Take for mike reese but all right like if that's how the patriot fans are gonna view it like okay. We'll we'll find out who gets the the better end of that deal. Speaking of deals leo. There was a report that came out last week that the forty niners are engaging with fred warner in contract talks and that they hope to get a deal done before training camp starts case. You don't know the forty niners report. July twenty seventh for training camp. They don't get on the field. I believe until the thirty first. And if you're keeping track at home. George kiddos deal got done just before. Training camp kicked off. What are you hearing about the warner deal and do you think that gets done. I don't know if it gets done on the timetable as torch kale. Did i think it absolutely should and it sounds like it's gonna be within that bobby wagner range of the eighteen million dollars per year. Which is it's fair. You always wanna get a bargain middle linebacker that just balls the hell out. And you're not having a pam eighteen million dollars like yeah. That's a dream scenario. But fred warner is just so electric in in what he does to that deepens. He's like what richard sherman provided in seattle. But as a middle linebacker rather than a cover three corner So we've seen him cover like hollywood brown of the baltimore ravens on a freaking dig. Row up the field. This guy's insanely he unlocked. So much of what you could do with your defense in coverage Wise as well as he's a he's a five tool linebacker where he could play against the run as well and and be and get skinny off blocks in find the angles to where he's avoiding blogs are just engages in then gets off the block as well. He's just so so fantastic. I think fred warner's just one of those things where or players. I should say not things. You can't put a price tag on him. If you put into price tag on fred warner you're not gonna come out happy with the negotiation But if you just acknowledge the player he is and you pay 'em as that then. Yeah it's it's not like these middle linebackers are making quarterback money. He's not gonna take this crazy. Amount of percentage of the of the team salary like say jimmy. Garoppolo is like if you get frayed warner on eighteen million. This season are just say. That's his average. Jimmy garoppolo still nine million dollars more than that jimmy. Garoppolo is making a hundred fifty percent of wet. Fred warners contract is like. Let's let's ignore the money value and watch this guy play that money's going to speak for itself. The salary cap isn't a go up year over year so by time were in what year three of that contract. You're for that contract which realistically it's probably going to be a five year deal so year three or four. He's might be on the outside of the top five highest paid middle linebackers in the game because there are some really really good ones that are gonna get paid like devin bush You have dion. Jones is going to need a new contract The devon white in tampa bay. Who's gonna get paid. Pretty hefty so from warners probably gonna be outside of the top five in in three to four years absolutely in four years. So he's he's fantastic and you just can't put a price tag on when you put a price tag on them. You're not gonna come away happy and negotiations. The i think your point about the jimmy. Garoppolo contract is spot on like they could sign fred mourner to eighteen million a year which would be tied for the most for any middle linebacker in the league and they would still gain cap and once. Jimmy garoppolo is off the team. That's how much money is making i. I love the idea of the forty niners having all pros on multiple levels of their defense. Bosa obviously on the defensive line. You get warner at the linebacker spot. That's how you build these all time. Good defenses go back and look at like the legion of boom. For example you had incredible players at multiple levels of defense. That's how you get these unions that become legendary. And i think that's what the forty niners and i look at the flip side of things lille even though the caps going up every year like you said i don't know if the forty niners are going to necessarily have to shell out a ton of huge contracts on the offensive side of the ball in terms of skill players. Because i think how shannon's kinda like unless i got like julio jones george cadle type guy i'll just we'll just draft dudes and i'll i'll get them open like you know like. Are they going to break. The bank for deebo samuel. I don't think so no. I don't think deebo signing a second deal with the forty niners brandon i you. Maybe but he's only played for a year so they don't have to worry about that for a few years. You know the way shinhand goes through running backs so my point is that if the niners have to spend a little more on the defensive side of the ball. That's okay especially considering that trae. Lance is going to be on a rookie for the next at least four years right and i think i think it would be smart if you extend fred warner and you front. Load this contract and move off to like. Is that okay to say. Like move off of jimmy's contract. And so that you could front low fred warner's deal the reason why you would frontload. That deal is so that it gets cheaper in your three year. Four year. five Why do you want it to be cheaper than you're going to have trae lancers and get paid eventually. And you're gonna have nick bosa who's going to get paid a ton those edge rushers top-quality edge. Rushers get paid. Just as much as quarterbacks do So with those two contracts. You're looking at probably preferred to have fred warner on a front loaded deal in backloaded one. So moving off from jimmy would be would be huge to this team. And that's possibly why. I don't see this deal. Maybe not being on the same timetable. As george kittle Because it will it. Kinda just forces their hand to back that contract if they do it now with jimmy on the roster but if jimmy's author roster than they have flexibility to backload it or front load it or just have it even across the board. Whatever the heck they want to do with that contract they just have a lot more flexibility. And when you're running with numbers like this when you're running an organization a billion dollar franchise you wanna have some flexibility when working on a deal like this guy. I think flexibility is the most important thing for a franchise to have and if you have to pay a little to get that flexibility. I'm all for that. I think team should do. I think it serves them better in the long run all right. Let's take a break. We've still got a lot more to get to. Because you made me aware of something that i didn't know about ocho cinco and frank gore so we're going to get into that we're going to get into a little trash talk from jimmy ward which i absolutely loved and we're also going to have maybe the most important debate we've ever had an honors nation podcast. "Fred Warner is a green dot where Ana Super Bowl team. It was seven minutes away in one of the best defenses in the league, wants underrated deejay would be there. The other guys would fall into the category. Now these are going to be hard contracts to dio. And they're older players. We'll just have to show That they have health that they're they're going to be healthy. So I mean, I'm a little interested. The Sherman. We've not heard a word at all about an extension for sure. But he's not asking for one. Atleast publicly. You know what's going on there? Trent Williams is Joji Child's going to be a hard contract to do, and he hasn't played as much as we loved Trent Williams, and I think he's one of the best 40 Niner offensive lineman immediately, easily. The most talented They've ever had. He's gotta prove he's healthy, any fits and who is he's gotta fit in the locker room, and that's going to be a hard one to do. Especially with the cap the way it is So and Cal use Czech is a valuable valuable guy. But they got to get through this year healthy before you could do that. So I mean of the Ford probably be D. J. But I got to see him with my eyeballs to know that he's healthy. Before I do that, And also he's gotta prove he's that's a difficult contract to do. He wants to sign right now is a first in 10 bass player only he's not going to get us much money, but if he can prove during the course of the year That he can play on second and third down and be a three down player Now, you know, I'm not going to say he's gonna get Chris Jones. Money is not going to get that, but he could get a lot Maura than he was a bit of a bass player. But if I had to pick it would be if the agent called right now and Fred Warner's agent, one of the talk We know who you are. You know your kid all in a lot of regards. He's the kind of guy you identify you build around. What are we talking about? You know if he's talking enormous money, hold on. We're not doing that. We don't have to do that right now. If it's more something that we envision it can fit into the salary structure. Certainly, and likewise for for K one, But I think the other guy's air just Ah, They got a little age on him, and they gotta prove they're healthy and they're just going to be More difficulty costlier contracts to do which, right now not knowing what the salary cap is and where they are physically, I'm not sure you could even engage them right now. Holder's big pull any Friday. Now that kiddos deal is done, which 2021 free agent would you do next? In search of Chairman Juice? D. J. Jones? We just put it up so about 100 votes, Trent Williams running away within a 57%. That doesn't surprise me because he's left tackle. As you just pointed out, though, what's going really difficult with him? Is. He makes 13.6 this year in the final year of his deal. We're seeing younger tackles. Joe Cory was just on with us former NFL agent and he gave a few examples of guys were getting money. Trent Williams is 33 That actually may work on the 40 Niners favor. Because if you're looking at a tonsil type of a player who's in, I think he's 27 28. He's getting $22 million a year will turn Williams at 33. I doubt it's going to get that he could get a large sum for a shorter period of time. But they can't franchise him. So turn waves is free, and I'm sure he'll negotiate with anybody because then he's got himself some leverage. So 57% return. Williams, 27% say want juice. 10% Sherman, that surprises me. Only 6%. D. J. Jones. And like I said, I think the Superbowl might have been different if D. J. Jones were there. He he was really coming on. And he chased Russell Wilson in that in that Monday nighter and what was it a hamstring? Or what has some sort of an injury like that muscle injury like that? And that really put him down? But D J. Jones people forget when he when he got hurt. He was really starting to make a name for himself. And they just don't have anybody else. We talked about pass rushers all the time. And bringing in some additional pass rushers because you need depth there. There's nobody on this roster like D. J. Jones. But he's gotta prove he can play three down. So that's why you can't pay him right now, because right now he's not a three down player like when I was playing mad last night. He's in the base. Ah, You know, I like I think the fort you know, Dee Ford was talking to the writers yesterday about availability, wants to play Maureen when his final year in Kansas City played over 1000 snaps. He only played 222 last year because he was hurt. He was hurt right from the start. But he's good enough to be the place to run well enough in the way they play nine technique. Hey, can play the run so, but with D. J. Jones like, for instance, right now, you'd probably say. You know, going into it was case Kinlaw. Could be immediately in that mixer. Is he a sub package player? I don't know. But I mean, he did G Ford at and with Bosa and put Armstead inside with D J or The Ford is in the sub package. Armstead is it bass and and your two and guys inside guys, or D, J and Kinlaw just in theory. But, you know, d. J. Jones is coming off the field. He's in your base on first down. But on second long when they go three wides and we go nickel. He's off the field, so his agent is going to say. If he wants to do a contract right now, you know, we're not paying you. You're only on the field for we're not in our base very much. We're in our base 33% of the time or maybe less. We got Arizona in this division that's going to go 10 personnel. The Rams 11. Personnel where he's not playing. So unless he has to prove that he has the pass rush ability. Now what you're saying? I think he could do it. I know Tim Ryan thinks he can do what he loves The guy who always says Don't be fooled by the bad body. His dad owns a barbecue joint and he's got but he's got and he's an adorable Kitty got married on the sideline last year, right analogy, he said, but he's got to be able to show That he has, and I think he has quick twitch to get up the field and go get the quarterback. But if he's only in on first down on the base, he is not going to get paid. So it's just what it is so adorable. He is adorable. I stood right next to him when he got down on one knee and got engaged that last year or the year before. Last year, the haul was absolutely member right. His whole family was there, and he's a big bear. He's adorable. The guy is family was there It was before Monday night Game one day before the Seattle game. Maybe the Cleveland game. I don't know what game I just remember seeing it going. Wow. No, I'm starting right there. It was amazing. I was I was like a pallbearer at pallbearer groomsmen. Well in my way of thinking, and it's very similar to a funeral. I was kidding. No. I was like I was a financial future ISS who was a kid, the ring bearer, No snoring Bear in there anywhere as man. No, I was not of that. I was just there to observe. So you were just in the way that anybody object to this wedding, and I said hello. I do. This guy's gonna get paid. What? I never had no but anyway, he's a good player, but he's gotta prove..

"Of Fred Warner interception we're starting to see this thing take shape what I'm having such a hard time with today Murphy is the idea that the forty Niners had this game in their hands yes and they couldn't put it away they couldn't finish and I I again I it's a really tough spot to be in today because we're all feeling the same thing it's extremely disappointing extremely disappointing and I will back you on your well I'm very emotional tie I'm sorry I I realize that I can have an outwardly done this yet I I but I got to say it's really difficult and it's really disappointing to just see this game come down and unravel the way it did how it did when it did and if there's anything because I know we're gonna be second guessing Shanahan for months on this but the only thing that really really got to me and had me scratching my head was the present I think it was our second to last possession of the game where you gash Moster gases for five it yeah we go incomplete pass incomplete pass punt you given the ball the homes out that that was it yeah they had the chance to March down the fifth and why they didn't just go right back to Mostar is beyond me that's how that's the reason they're in that game they blew the Vikings off the field they blew the Packers off the field with healthy doses of old line win in the line of scrimmage and let Moster Gallup and when we had to do that we went away from it yeah absolutely and I was read that's three thousand ever sexually frustrated any and it seems like whatever button Kyle pushed was the wrong one and we go back to like even like the Seattle home loss when we wanted him to be more conservative and play for the tie instead he got aggressive and gave Wes was the ball back my big thing was the in the first half I would hate it the end of the first I didn't like it either but let me say this summer if I didn't like it either and I was really surprised that we're just kind of sitting there doing nothing but yet we have the ball right down there for a field goal before the end of the had a locked in and the flag took it away and the other thing you know really go helmet to helmet on garage below late in the fourth quarter and I think clearly grapple was days he was down on the ground grabbing his helmet trying to get his wits back I think he got his bell rung and if you watch him from that point on for the rest of the game he lost his accuracy but yet there was no flag on that Murphy a full jumping over the line all sides no call so is a real it was real I just think if you got a call that offense of P. I. on kindle you're gonna have to have you got to make that up on the other side because everybody was grabbing everybody Bozo was held on every well there's no question that that that that part of the the narrative is you your house to the heavens about zebras there's no question but that the losers lament isn't it I mean it it really is to sit there blame the refs and stuff but it was of the lawsuit was was that it was going to get around it was the office of pastor of yours call was the no call when a chief jumped offside authored and fourteen I was as you said in and and on ESPN last night Hasselbeck Matt Hasselbeck shoot bows are getting held on the third team player was over there was a mugging that said I mean they kinda let him play for the most part except for the kill put that's interest so strange about the cattle P. I was that for the most part there let him play was going on on both sides to I mean the whole game was like that and it wasn't anything so egregious that it really want to follow me on as a P. I ride it was I hated that I got my prayer came on the set easy call right call I like it like it either I thought you know you're right they could've gotten points from that but I hated the approach that Kyle went conservative don't already have very now playing Patty cake the time to go get him you know it in in in it wasn't about like giving my homes the ball back you don't first well a don't play scared be you're doing a good job on mom's in three C. this was a great chance to score and then get them all right the in the third quarter and scored again a error I start a third quarter score again saying that was my problem cough I agree with you on the on the most it was the twenty to seventeen when they protect your lead they are even broader Moster yes I'm on the field second five five.

"I like the forty Niners match up against Alvin Kamara give me Fred Warner versus Alvin Kamara every single play now listen Kumar is really good but friends gonna get his he's gonna get his in that match up I don't feel so great about Drake Greenlaw Ross share but I do think and this is gonna sound a little ridiculous the brace yourselves I do think that the forty Niners can learn something from the Dallas Cowboys yeah I really liked with Dallas Cowboys did when they played the New Orleans Saints now if you read my column about Lamar Jackson last week and how the forty Niners could stop you'll know that I am a big proponent of putting as many safeties on the fields possible that's what the cowboys did when they play the saints and they always had speed on the field to counteract Alvin Kamara gotta stop Thomas all you have to do is put speed on tomorrow the entire defense can swarm just slow down a little bit I really like that Fred Warner match up and I think that they have enough safeties they have enough speed that they can make that happen there's one defense in the NFL it's fast it's the San Francisco forty Niners the third thing down to maybe the thing that we are not giving enough credence to right now we're talking about the maybe we are not reading into it enough the Superdome the super dome is one of the four actual home field advantages in the NFL I know a lot of bookies what are odds makers a lot of guys who backed the NFL professionally who don't seem to believe that home field advantages of thing I think the New Orleans Saints well played very well on the road to be fair they're good team both home and away I think that they can make an argument that the home field advanced all matters to them I have never been in the Superdome I'm very much looking forward to my first trip to the Superdome on Sunday but from everything I've heard from other guys in the NFL covered super bowls they're covered saints games there it is an ear ringing experience the forty Niners played great on the road outstanding on the road but I don't think that they played environment quite like this just yet interested to see how they respond to that the same time they can the Niners to win they can win by double digits I think they are far and away the better team but we'll see how much home field advantage is really worth I think that that could be the one thing that really kills that ten point way dropped by to make are we gonna talk to carry Crowley he covers the giants for the bay area news group doesn't bang up job all things baseball can't get enough Kerry Crowley we're gonna talk to him next your calls as well it it away came BR this is can be our night on the sports leader NPR.

"And and the truth of it is is you know I heard they made changes up front all that and you know they're doing their defined a new style defense Avenue de line coach I heard center great job and they got really good players and you know it's just a different style scheme for us and yet we have to adapt all that stuff but yeah I I don't it may be a little bit they're familiar I mean there were a good place to entice you see the film is just one of those things but yet the it is the gym shorts model of defense so it's pretty it's good stuff I love every drop that in three times like three separate times during the press conference about they were different than I expected you know what I miss Emma got a bit of a limb here Ben I think that dead coach getting a real low as a younger see because this is first year being in see in the NFL this is actually gonna help him a little bit about a certain expectations like how much you prep for a team you have to be able to adapt is that the is and know that but even with the what he considered a bit of a familiar opponent he he mentioned it the thought they were a bit of a familiar opponent he knew a look there be some changes but I know this person now I I know defensively what they're about and they throw a curve ball and today I think that's gonna be valuable for him long term yeah not knowing the baby's philosophy of defense for a team you just left to to come here and coordinate that's kinda weird that's right and you tell it bothered him like he makes it on three separate occasions even on one of the answers what is asked about your balls he worked it into well yeah but they were doing some things we didn't know they were gonna do right and it's it should be something that he does that a shift in philosophy is off season they use the same defense accorded Robert cell still the guy he shifted from what they used to use the more of a a and he's right with Jim Schwartz it's it's way wide nine was stacked linebackers interchangeable safety she saw just would you quickly toward liable simple size is that right it is a wide nine style front forget after the quarterback style of defense it's he's not what they did two three years ago when it was more of a thirty four not more so a lot more similar to what the Broncos are running at the time that they have changed defensive philosophy and I I think that it'll probably benefit them I don't know if the get the linebackers table benefit the forty Niners yes okay I don't know that they've got the linebackers to pull it off right now but I like Fred Warner electric green law I think those two guys fit kwon Alexander is yeah hi I just I just don't know they've got the you know the ability to pull it up it is a wide nine stack linebackers interchangeable safety defense that's that's what it is and it it Jim Schwartz is a guy who kind of kind of predicated that so it was good pick up there by the coach Gangrel picking that up after one practice but yeah that's it's it's interesting it's certainly fun to watch but he should have been thrown operational as guys got relationships these guys you know what they were doing that's that's the thing is that you don't need a tape there's a some assumption may be any any kind us couch should as well you don't really prep for the practice is necessarily Mike won't I mean you can put your office in a bit of a bad spot like if you don't if you're not telling them what their should be looking for that's when you and I did that's what I'm saying I feel like this is gonna be a good learning experience for risking a role going forward never underestimate your opponent is like art of war kind of stuff right right and so in this case I felt like he underestimated the defense a little bit said I kinda knew what they were going to be about they know what we're gonna be a test of the of the the best benefit for the forty Niners defense is they know exactly risking rebels gonna be doing right angled to the T. risque girls gonna try to do benefit first kangaroo allow his that he knows the personnel rights so now he has a chance to recreate itself a little bit if he wants right I think they have a Crisco Sarek there whose is the guy was really kind of facilitate this change for the Niners is probably the difference well he technically works for Robert Sally a he's not the defense according her title certainly he is in the philosophy shift yeah on what they've done they used to kind of use that that forty three under over hybrid that look like a thirty four standing the Broncos did they really did a lot with the markets where was here now the end was stand up to look at thirty four but it's really Wade's male kind of blueprint and now they're they switched I said basically was a five three is basically now for free and so it's it's it's fun it's fun to watch it's fun watching things more but you got to be prepared for that the view to have tape on this you got a part for body will tomorrow and that's what we know we know for certain tomorrow as I said earlier in the show in the end and Jon Gruden by way said this he said you can legally get out for you can you can do that that is a conscious choice tomorrow you will see effort from this team you'll see pop you'll see energy the office there are too many good players all that often the side of the.

"fred warner" Discussed on Niners Nation

"Us. Check, Dante Pettis lake and Tomlinson. Fred Warner and western rich Berg. So that's that's the list you feel good after eating those names off. I do not. I feel good about some players. I think that Matt Brita call us, Jack and Goodwin. I feel good about them. I think Goodwin had just a shit year this year, and we didn't put on there, which we added to the list, but not to this list cancer. I think has to go into this tear out of basically contract effectively. I think he lands in here. I don't know. I think there's an argument to be made probably that no running back should be in this year. And that there are all either tier three or tier five, but we won't make that argument today. I think you've got to use them in. Yeah. I think it makes probably most sense for him to to be at the spot, even though really his one massive salary cap era is already come and gone with with nothing out of it. And and we're kind of left here. So I think this is kind of the the big thing for me. And we talked about this a little bit last week where they kind of thought that this was the big story, right? Was the tier four and the number of players that are into core. This is the other side of that coin, right? Where it's effectively a lot of players that we thought were going to be kind of core pieces on the next good forty Niners team. The next good the next playoff team that they were able to put together we would look back in like these. We're going to be some of the core pieces. Now, I think even if you identify these ones here like you don't feel good about that being really like the core of your roster right to surround your top and players. I mean, you're looking at three running backs in there. Cheerier lineman say what worries me about this tier is not necessarily the quality of the players. It's the complexion of the positions that make up this tier? And I love Matt Breda, obviously, if you've listened to us for a long time, you know that I'm not I'm not shy about my love for math Breda. But I I would be remiss if I didn't mention that he is a running back. And there's a reason that Jeff Wilson he most looked good at times this year. And that's because this system is very running back friendly. And I think that you can find other map breeders that skill set is not necessarily so rare. And so valuable that that, you know, I'm not so naive to think that if you were to go get picked up by someone else where we would cut him or whatever that the team would be in the lurch at running back, right and same thing with fullback in us. Check that I think is what worries me is that you've got some positions in here that aren't really valuable for football. Whereas I would love to see a better complexion of this roster where you have some edge pressure in tier two you've got I'm glad that we have. A couple of wide receivers in here. But that you have a cornerback or two in this meter so again, not a single defensive player. Fred Warner's your loan defensive player. And honestly like I think there's an argument that that he's probably go to your four. Right. I think that we could potentially look back next year at this time in realize that we made the same mistake with Fred Warner that we did with whether spoon in some of these other players who are now tier four players..
