"The headline says it all from Sports Illustrated, the death of the local sports anchor. Just think about all of you, maybe 40 or 50 and above, growing up when this is pre ESPN, when you put on the local news and you knew the weather guy and the sports guy was a bigger celebrity in town than the mayor. Well, those days are long over. The latest cover story anchors away in SI, John wertheim, of course, an editor there and also a 60 minutes contributor has written just a stunning piece about the moving on not only the importance of sports anchors, but the amount of time that they get. John, thank you very much. First of all, for making time for us. It's a pleasure to welcome you to our show. I likewise. Good to be with you. John, I mean, I nearly cried reading about all these names that I have heard about, even though I didn't really live in the cities where they were and I want you just to pick up on the idea behind this and dealing with what really has become for a lot of reasons. One of which is the place I currently work. But why these local icons have become dinosaurs in their own town. Exactly. There's blood on your hands. No, I mean, I think that there was a time for those of us old enough to remember when like you said, these were the kings of town and I can remember in my market Indianapolis. I mean, I can remember the local sports anchors like they was Reggie Miller and then the pacers starting 5. I mean, these guys were God. They were inevitably they were guys. This was a male profession overwhelmingly and it's one of these things that's not dissimilar to changes in media in general, right? A lot of the same things that we don't necessarily get our news from the newspaper that arrives on our doorstep in the morning. So some of this is technology, some of this is ESPN, some of this is mobile technology and there's a dunk worth seeing we're all watching it on our phone. We don't need to stay up until after the AccuWeather forecast to find out if the Lakers won or if there was a winning touchdown. And it just struck me. I was in LA, it was just a total collective. I was in LA with Fred Rogan retired. I was like, wait, I remember Fred Rogan. He used to do a syndicated show and Fred Rogan was, you know, sort of the Johnny Carson of LA was a local guy who did sports and his last sports broadcast, it really sort of crystallized sort of how far this job had fallen. They snuck him on and he had sort of four minutes, and you would have said, man, if this guy had retired in 19 93 instead of 2023, the whole city would have had a day of mourning and you would have had Magic Johnson and Kareem Fernando Valdez would be there instead it was like the guy getting sheet cake is last day in the office and it just sort of struck me how far this job, everyone kind of makes anchorman jokes, but they kind of got it right. I mean, there was a time when if you were the local analysis, you were the local news guy. You were the local sports guy. You were the king of the city. And that is not the case anymore. John, when I was growing up, I never forget my mother called the local TV affiliate. I grew up in Memphis, and she was mad because the weather guy started wearing glasses or something. I mean, you knew everything about these guys. And being a newspaper guy in the 80s, I mean, we used to look at these guys and make fun of them. The hairspray sports people, and of course, then what I did became obsolete as everyone knows. But you didn't think of what happened to television and you were explaining their pretty obvious reason. I'll let you pick up on what happened late 70s, early 80s with ESPN and others, but mainly ESPN that really, even before the technological revolution that made a lot of these guys less important than they were. Yes, can we just talk about the outrage of a weatherman wearing glasses though? I'm a 100% with your mom on that one. But no, I mean, these guys would come on. They give you four minutes of sports and that's how you'd find out if like you say, if it's the Memphis tigers one or how many points did the Jordan have. And then all of a sudden the here comes this all Sports Network in an 11 o'clock, which I think is critical because it's the same hour of local news. There's a show sports center and it's a whole hour and it's the same highlights except there's more of them and I think some of it is the fact that it was just more sport. It was all sports. I didn't have to sit through Thursday forecast or whether there was a bridge closing. It was all sports, and I also think, you know, these were sports guys, so they had a banter, they could make inside jokes and they could make you see it was a lot cooler than watching the sports guy joke with the meteorologist. And so before we started carrying before there were phones in our pocket before there was Internet technology, I think SportsCenter was kind of the first blow against the bow of the local sportscaster. But even while things were changing, John, as you point out, in these markets, a lot of these people hung on, but what happened in the answer is obvious. But explain what happened. Ten, 15, 20 years ago, and finally how it just, it really made all these people obsolete. Yeah, I mean, I think in some ways what happened to the Internet and in other ways, what happened was nothing happened. And, you know, I mean, this isn't a dissimilar conversation to what we go through in print media, right? I mean, you used to get Sports Illustrated on a Thursday, and they would have a recap of the games from the last weekend. And you say, now it's a silly. But what did you do? You had to write your stories in a way that told you a story you wouldn't get anywhere else. So that spun the news forward. No one goes to the mailbox Thursday and says, you know, oh man, my home is through for 311 yards. And I think what happened with print has its own challenges, but I think what happened with local news talking to a lot of these guys is that nothing happens. And they were just locked into this format. And you got your four or 5 minutes that came on after the weather. And Fred Rogan says, listen, you know, we will take pictures now the same way we did 50 years ago by folks that don't get in the ride with, you know, they'll get a car with strangers and now we take Uber everywhere, but for some reason the local sports cap is exactly the same, so the format, the cadence, the minutes, it's exactly the same as it was when I broke into the business in the 70s.

The Bill Simmons Podcast

"Part of it is that the legacy, right? We're not currently we're not thinking of centers. Right. And so we're not thinking of any, like, who's the best center of this error? Does it even matter? Well, they might have been the best center of his era. Now centers are, I think it's a better, deeper position than maybe it was during when Dwight was there. He was kind of he represented like the last old school center. And we were moving to his new world. The real last old school center Shaq was always dumping on Dwight. But that's honestly that's why Dwight didn't make it. I think people just don't like them. You know, and this is we're so and I and house did a basketball book a basketball podcast about it. Last year, about this very point, his career was I think significantly better than people realized, but people didn't like them. And he was a jackass, and he did stuff like the Superman thing. And, you know, in the finals, against the Lakers where they had real chances to take control of that series and he couldn't make a free throw and he was just a really frustrating query. He felt like the kind of guy that had the world that his fingertips and a lot like how we feel about somebody like Ben Simmons now. But it's like, get your shit together, dude. You're one of the 6 best athletes in the league. So Ben, if we transition a little bit. So you sent me that awesome clip of I don't know if I can even call it a clip when it's 40 minutes of news reports from LA, local TV sports when the Lakers Paul west had. And, you know, all the speculation at the time was the Magic Johnson, go upstairs and have Paul west had fired. And I remember that's my second or third, really third year really being in the NBA fan. My invade fandom basically started with magic and the Lakers and the 1980 playoffs. And from then I just jumped all in and manages my favorite player ever. And all of a sudden he's vilified, right? He's the bad guy. He got booed that first game after west had got fired. And it was so hard to see my favorite player turn into the villain. And I was thinking one of the things that's hurting Ben Simmons is, is anyone really heartbroken by this? You know, did he have like this hardcore fan base anywhere that's like it feels disappointed in him? That's part of the problem. Like, nobody's heartbroken over this. You know, I get the sense you've got probably more Philly fans than I do in your friendship circle that they're just kind of just get rid of them. You know? There's no, there's no reckoning. There's no, you know, heart rending. No, this guy doesn't want to be here. Let's get rid of him. Whereas for me, it was so hard to see Magic Johnson vilified and he got over really quick and they won the championship and then they took off. But Ben Simmons doesn't have that. And I Yeah, he entered the fuck this guy zone, which is a really dangerous place to be very clear. The difference is, you know, magic, his rookie year, they won the title and he played one of the most legendary games of all time. And for that, it's like at least he had a pedigree and a track record whereas Ben Simmons is track record year after year has been but the reason I set that to you, there's this dude. So if people want to watch this, there's this YouTube guy. His name is non player zealot four. That's his YouTube handle. And he just basically has every single Laker clip from the 80s and 90s and 2000s. You would ever want to find and all the Chick Hearn calls, which are great. I actually watched the games game four in 1987 finals, which I went to the sky. I'd never heard the Chick Hearn call. It's great. It's really like, it's so, so good, but you heard it in the they always play the chick hurn call like on the MBA commercials or whatever. Yeah, but never like the whole actual play by play. Right. So this guy put together this 40 minute Montage of and it's I'm telling you when Brian Curtis sees this, he might have to, he might need medical attention. It's got Fred Rogan. The hill of course, of course Jim. Tim hell. And Bill just has an aged. Right. He's the exact same from 1981. And, you know, when you hear Jerry busts, answering one of the questions in San Roy, that's Roy firestone, right? And also there's one thing where they toss back to the anchors and CBS and Jim hill's there. And you hear Connie Chung in there, saying, can I say hi to magic? Connie Chung, who went on to be a national network anchor? Well, you looked at the best one. Roy firestone. Rocky rocky star, student a hand. You know, for the record movies. Yeah. At best times of Richmond high. Right. All those guys. But it was actually really good journalism. You know, watching it as a drilling professional. That's when local TV sports, you know, they had, first of all, they had multiple guys. Like you see guys in the studio throwing out to their reporters, you know, now you've got one person in sports staffs and local news. And I give credit to a lot of those guys because they've done some reporting. You know, you hear them giving informed opinions. And there was so much skepticism about what the Lakers were sending out that, oh, we'd already made the decision and we were gonna fire west head later and then magic just happened to speak out, you.

"It's not for us. It's for our kids. Right. They don't care where people that remember what Marcus Allen plays the Raiders. They don't care about us. We're gonna die. The football in l. A is good for the NFL overall and cranky has enough money to wear whatever financial hit it is and it's a play for our Children. And they'll have that beautiful stadium and they'll sell it and it'll be an attraction for the glow. That doesn't matter if it works in l. A. No one cares what we really like. You cranky was pissed. That originally was 1.6 billion, and the final price tag was closer to 5.5. Probably. But then again, you know what's a few more billion between a guy with a bow tie, But I really appreciate coming on. I hope you enjoy the big game on Sunday. I know that you probably won't. But I'm hoping you will. You know when it gets down to it, and I usually watch the Super Bowl with people who aren't football people. Uh, I can really flex my football muscle like, hey, look, this is gonna be a run play, and then they're like, ooh, way the fullback or the tight ends hand if he's really leaning into his hand. Yeah, that's great. Yeah, he's gonna fire off. How did Petros know is gonna be a jet sweep as knowledgeable? Oh, What's the difference between a jet sweep in an end around Ding dong? Well, jets sweep is the receiver, right? No, both of the same. It's just strength. If a jet sweep I think goes to the tight inside an end around is a weak side playing. That's great. Bye. Thanks for coming on, always appreciate it and I will catch you in the halls. I'd love to stay, but I gotta go. All right, Enjoy your drink. All right. There he goes. Petro's tapenade is Man. That guy's got great energy. He wakes up at 6 A.m.. He's got two kids to deal with. His wife a comes in, and he does a show with Matt Money, Smith and then on weekends. He's with Fred Rogan. He does all these Collins to all these stations. Then he comes out with us at night. And he has that kind of energy. God bless that man. We're live on K. If I am 6 40.

"People like Mitt Romney and Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, Bunch of moderate Republicans. One of the issues is that Biden is proposing a $1400 check for her family stimulus checks. Republicans are asking for it to be lowered down to about 1000, but at least there's some discussion. At least there's some dialogue going on. Remember a handful of years ago, we did. Stories about the coroner's department in L. A county had bodies stacked in the hallway because they Weren't moving him out. Quick enough. There wasn't enough storage space. It was a complete mess. We'll add a pandemic onto that guys, and it's not good. It's not good where we're at. We're gonna talk to a mortician coming up. Next after Amy's news, But it was the blockbuster trade heard around the NFL over the weekend. And, you know Fred Rogan joins us the dean, the most beloved sports figure in Los Angeles. Much too kind. Thank you. You know there. I was getting kind of pissed over the weekend because there were some Rams fans that were hating on this. And Matt Stafford's A great quarterback. That I think has just been wasted in in Detroit. I like in him to a poor man's Aaron Rodgers. Okay, interesting. Any time you go to poor man's well, any time you start with you well, but Aaron Rodgers I like the guy. He's just a poor man's Aaron Rodgers. What? Why are people heating on it? What is the problem? I don't know. Did they see Jared Goff? And in the fall out between him and McVeigh? It was bad blood. Yeah, Here's the thing. It just proves in life when somebody doesn't want you anymore. They're gonna move you no matter what it takes, And it's psychologically This is really interesting. Think about this. You know, the hardest thing in life to do is a say I'm sorry. Be admitted a steak. So the Rams traded draft picks for the right to to draft Jared Goff and the Rams like to make a splash. Kevin Demoff understands how the market works. Go big or go home. You've got to stand out, so they went big at the number one pick took Jared Goff. Okay, now what has been happening is Jared Goff didn't evolve. That's what basically bit him and that's what basically bites a lot of us. He didn't evolve. Okay, You're good, and we expect you to get better. And you got a little better and we expect you to get to the next level. Oh, he's not doing that. Okay, well, but he just had a bad a bad season. He'll get better still not doing it. And what does that do? The person that hired you now becomes frustrated with you Do what I say. He physically can't. He can't do what the Rams want him to do. And when you hit that point in football and basketball in business, you make a change and you do whatever it takes to make that change. They were going to move him. It's like who's available. We'll take a run it Aaron Rodgers know. Okay, that's out to Shawn Watson of the Texans Prices too high. Okay, we can't do that Matt Staff out of the lines is available Gun slinger, not a great runner, but a real tough s O B and a gun slinger. He can throw the ball will go get him and as a matter of fact, The guy who was just hired is the general manager of that team used to work for us, So we know him. He's our guy will give a couple of draft picks and will move and we'll get rid of Jared Golf. We'll get Matt Stafford in here and really, that's what happened. They were going to make a change. They went for the best guy they could grab. And that was Matt Stafford. I think it's an upgrade and the other porter. Part of this is what they gave up more draft picks, and now they've given up like six draft picks and Ultimately, it looks like because of golf and the other draft picks. They traded six draft picks for Matt Stafford. That's what they ultimately did. Who cares? They're draft picks. They're not stars. You can find a guy in the second round. It might be pretty good. Just because you don't have your first round pick, and if the Rams have the kind of season they believe they will. They're picking at the end of the first round anyway. So it's like a second round pick. Right? So who cares? Yeah. Does this change at all tickets sales going into the new state? I mean, this lost season that we've had, but it's not like Matt Stafford is going to generate the publicity's or the excitement they start. Rogers would have Well, No, he's not going to generate that kind of public city that Aaron Rodgers would, but he's an upgrade, and they'll sell it that way. You know what I think? I think it was a good move. I think it was a name. Move and the Rams like to do that with Jalen Ramsey. They signed Erin Donald. You remember, they paid Todd Gurley then moved him. They gave Jared Goff money. Okay. They were able to move him. But he had 110 million guaranteed was the problem. How do you move? A guy like that, Lord? Well, what you do is you basically pay somebody Take him. We'll give you these draft picks and you're stuck with his contract. But we're gonna give you draft picks, and when you're rebuilding that will help you. Here's what I think Ticket sales are ticket sales. And I think in this market and Shannon, I think you're right. You gotta win. That's it. That's only anything anybody cares about. You gotta win. You gotta have stars. You got to be exciting. If you don't win, you better have stars and be exciting. If you don't have stars, you better be exciting. Okay, so we know the Rams are gonna be exciting. And we know they have stars. Now they have to win. If they win, ticket sales will take care of themselves. The Chargers have the most exciting young quarterback in the National Football League. You know that? No buckle. Buy a donut across the street because they're not winning. It doesn't matter. You gotta win here and you're gonna have stars and be excited. I love I was just thinking about this all weekend about Sean McVeigh and Jared Goff, and they seem so tight, you know, three years ago. They were inseparable. They work so well together, and it just seemed like a total bromance, you know, And so I was thinking all weekend like all that love story is over. And then this morning I was reading how it went down that McVeigh was in combo with Matt Stafford, and they were just sitting down to dinner when the trade happens. And like I just like the how romanticized is that? And then when I saw Jared God's quote yesterday, I just want to be somewhere where I'm loved and appreciated. It was like a true romance ending complete. With a new girl, Bro. Man's. It was honestly a divorce. That's what happened. It was a relationship, and, you know, in any relationship we grow, and hopefully we grow together. And oftentimes it's determined on when you meet somebody right. You meet somebody at 18. You're gonna be a different person to 25 You gonna be a different person A 35? Are we going to grow together? Okay, well, we're gonna like this. I got married and they started their life. And suddenly we kind of started growing in different directions. And my expectation for you is not something you can deliver, and you're becoming frustrated and Then you divorce a lot of life advice from you today, Fred. I feel like my soul has been What's the word? I'm looking for massages and that wasn't it. Oh, but she did to your point earlier. Do you think that Sean McVeigh was able to reach out to Jared Goff and say I'm sorry? And do you think Jared Goff was able to reach back and say I made mistakes give you the two hardest things to do in life? No, I think that Jared Goff is never going to say I made mistakes because Jared Goff is doing exactly what Jared Goff conduce. His confusion and frustration is why Why isn't this working anymore? Because he's doing all he can do?.

"Cuomo. But this This is a dangerous life threatening situation. To give an idea of the threatening nature of this LaGuardia is closed The airport JFK tweeted a short time ago that as much as 85% of the flights in and out of JFK Have been canceled today because of it, and they're asking. Everybody obviously call ahead all above ground Subway service in New York City is going to be suspended in about 20 minutes. S o. They're saying if you're not at home right now, you're not gotten home or you're gonna walk through 23 ft of snow. Heavy snow is going to come down. They say 2 to 4 inches of snow per hour. Extremely blinding snow don't be out in it, And then they say that's going to give way tomorrow to Isis. What I see dangerous conditions so they have in person learning at school's canceled until Wednesday was funny. I saw me from somebody who said it's so great that at all this snow Morning stuff is coming. I can't wait to be locked inside with my kids for more or days. Stephen Colbert tweeted that that the storm was going to be so bad. He's going to stay in his house since last March. There you go exactly, But this is one of those Listen. It's the Northeast they like governor, Cuomo said. Is it? Winter Storm? It's February. I mean in the Northeast. Yeah, What do you do this every year, There's going to be an issue and it's going to be windy and you're going to get snow and it's gonna be messy. And for the next couple of days, people are going to dig out from underneath it and they're gonna get back to it. You're gonna get back to don't know what they do in New York, but they're gonna get back to whatever New Yorkers Diogo Um the but like you said. This was clearly one of those storms that came here. We had 6 Ft of snow in different areas of the Sierra Nevada. My daughter over the weekend said that it constantly rained. She's in San Luis Obisbo it constantly. Rain wasn't super heavy all the time. But my parents are in that same area and even they said there was running water on their property where they have not had like a creek before. Is that why I saw her at that party? Social media. Don't because I'm just kidding. I'm just baiting you. God, it's so easy. It's not easy. You know your face. I smell the live read smelled alive and your lies. Smell like bacon way will see the potential for a little bit more rain. I kind of sprinkled a little bit on the way in this morning. But to be honest, this weekend is supposed to be really nice. 75 maybe 80 lovely and Super Bowl Sunday, so To bring my swimsuit well. You are more than welcome. All right, well, chili, I see Adventure in there. Yeah, No. Usually I just put my feet in. Okay. You have put my feet and around three o'clock senior feet. My feet are fine. Right. There's some feed around here that aren't minor. From feeding Well, it's the end of a romance, and it's always sad to see love fail. But that is what happened between Shawn McVeigh and Jared Goff. The love story. Is over. They have moved on. It was so funny when I saw Jared Goths quote because that's all I'm thinking is like all the love stories over and then Jared Gobs quote yesterday about I just want to be somewhere where I feel loved and appreciated. It was like, Oh, my God have fun in Detroit that Yeah, they like kids from Northern California. They love picks. All right, Gary in Shan, and we'll talk to Fred Rogan about the blockbuster trade this this weekend in the NFL. Harry and Shannon will continue Amy Kings over there with the very latest mayor, Garcetti says even though a few dozen protesters blocked the entrance to Dodger Stadium's mega vaccine site Saturday, no appointments had to be canceled and everyone scheduled to get a shot got one. "When are we going to take the show outside up onto the roof? We need to do the show outside for safety. We need sunlight. Take up Gary and Shannon weekdays attending and you guys were looking a little pale on K f I Okay. If I am six forties, Conway show Gina Grad is with us. And also Fred Rogan joins us, Fred. I love listening to you and Rodney. I know how difficult it is to start in a major market with a brand new partner, but I think it's seamless. I think it is. It is a perfect show. It's your great, great partner. So even if you guys end up hating each other, you got to stay together for my sake. Oh, well, that I appreciate him and I'll say it. Robbie has done a phenomenal job. He really didn't have any radio experience. When he started. He had done some television work. But when they put us together and we tried to come up with, you know how we were going to do things. The great thing about Rodney is he just is very Very good at reacting. And in doing that, it opens up a lot of possibilities so we can go on any number of directions at any time. And it really is a lot of fun doing it who came up and who writes the Uh, for real or for Gezi. That's the one of the greatest bits ever. I love it, and I find myself doing it in the car like for real for real. Rita. That's Kevin figures who who was a magnificent producer and just a great guy on we're really blessed to have him. He does all of the content and all the games we play for real it from Gezi. He's ground who dis and name. That's what Hey, listen in the ram game, you know last week when when Woolford got hurt, and he was out and then go off was in they set of golf not injured. There was no more quarterbacks on the bench. What would they have done? They would have gone with punter Johnny Hekker, the third quarterback, the emergency quarterback, he did play quarterback in high school. It was a very risky import decision. They didn't expect Woolford to get hurt. But you have to believe if your starter gets hurt in Woolford, and then Jared Goff is coming off thumb surgery. You better have a backup, so there will be one this week, and I notice because I watched the game I recorded it and I watched it like three or four times since I have, like nothing to do. And I noticed that once will forgot. Heard the Rams really started playing quicker, faster and motivated. Does an injury like that motivated team like you know, you have taken us out, but now we're gonna make you pay for it. Well, I think what happened was when Walford got hurt and remember, he played one game. And then, Okay, You know, a lot of people thought well, then we should put him in the Hall of Fame. Everybody simmer down. I'll be the guy played one game when Jared Goff went back, and he's been the starting quarterback since he's been here, so they're more used to his rhythm there more used to the way he calls the game and I think everybody was just even if God is in his mobile is Welford. The players are more comfortable because they understand what to do in golf is in the game, right? But you know, I think had a great game and might have a career in the NFL. Is that Taylor? Heh. Nikki, the guy that came in played for the Redskins. Wasn't he great? Yeah. Wow. He's waited up. He was He was exciting. I mean, you found yourself rooting for those guys after that, and the feeling seems to be He played so well, he might be a serviceable backup. At least that's what people that really understand football say. You know, when a guy goes in and plays well, one game That's fantastic. But it's one game which you have to worry about is after a while. The other team has film on you. They know what you do. They try to take you out of what you do. So a guy like like play, Nicky. If, in fact he were to continue this and sustain it. It would be one thing, but he represented himself very well. And worst case is gonna find himself with the backup job and getting paid. I think he was two years old when Tom Brady started in the NFL. Yeah, but one thing everybody two years old and Tom Brady started in the NFL. That's right. But but this kid man when when he went, and he dove for the for the goal line there towards the end of the game, I think that really showed everybody on this team that he's a team player. Oh, yeah. I mean, look, that was his shot. That was his moment, and he really made the most of it. I mean, it made for really one of the more exciting moments of the weekend, and I think everybody is going to root for that guy and he'll have a job next year. Right now, Fred, you you've been inundated your whole life with sports. Can you still watch and enjoy a game? An entire game or or, you know, worried about. Maybe you missed another game that you have to talk about the on Monday. It's funny. You bring that up. It depends on what the game is. If I'm not working, I will sit and watch and I watch it very differently than if I'm working because when I am, I gotta remember everything I got to make notes. I've got to remember the nuances of the game. It's more fun for me to go to a game. Not be working because then I'm a fan, and I can act like a fan. I just kind of get lost in the action, but otherwise you are always focused on what is going on What you might miss and what you have to say. What Now we're growing up where you were. What football team do you follow? Well, I was born in Detroit and my dad was a huge sports fan. I didn't realize this when I was growing up, But, you know, one day my dad came home with a brand new Cadillac and I thought, Oh, my God, they owned a drugstore. This is great. I had no idea my dad was GAM work, but because of that. Hey, had season tickets to the Lions Love the Red Wings, Right Pistons and the Tigers. So I was Alliance fan and it's funny. My kids now my sons. Have never been to Detroit. But for whatever reason, they're all Lions fans that's called a living by with the lines and you know what? Just like me. They've never seen the lines when That's great man that that really is cool. It says something about about you that your kids followed the team that you followed. When? When you're a kid. I remember growing up. My mom grew up in Detroit. We have to go to Sanders, Hot fudge and man, there's something. Yeah, it was just beautiful. Oh, yeah, I remember that. We used to take Cassandra's fudge over to Belle Isle. And just that was the last time you know. All right, Bella. Yeah. And you remember the bottle? Oh, both. Oh, yeah. The bottle of what was great. Yeah. Take you, right? Yeah, that was unbelievable. I loved, you know, I love you going over the bridge over the winds or, you know the whole run. It was just such a great place to spend Summers. You know what you go to Tiger? I don't know. Yeah, And did you ever go Carl's chop house was right across from Tiger Stadium. And we would always go there before the games. "Italian. I know you'd win it and I went all right. That's enough that that was that was just my Tommy. Thank you. I kind of Sauntered out of the shot and just let him handle it. That's great. You know, he was Tommy Lasorda. I ran into him. Once I was at the Dodge at a Dodger game with my dad and we're walking up. It was like the press box level you when they have those like five or six rows of seats. And I was also with a friend of mine. And I just happen to meet a friend of mine there and he was with his girlfriend who was very, very attractive. And I was with me, My dad, my friend and my friend's girlfriend, and, um, Tommy Lasorda makes a beeline for us because he recognizes my dad. So he comes up and he walks up and he walks right past my dad to my buddy and goes, she is beautiful. You got to keep her And spend 20 minutes talking about how hot she was in front of her does not supposed. Yeah, well, that does not surprise me that that was Tommy. That exactly we was He never turned around. I don't even think you recognize my dad. I think he just saw her and made a beeline and said, We've got to stay together with her. She's unbelievable. But you know, Tommy appreciate that. Yeah, but Tommy Lasorda, um you know, he was such an honest guy that almost to a fault. I remember having him on the air one night. And I said, Hey, Tommy, I said, you know, last year when your restaurants were closed because of vermin that zone That's a shame that the L A Times wrote that article. Because you're you meant so much the city they should have given you a break, and he's like, Oh, no, no, no, no, Timmy, those rats were the size of ponies. Perfect coming. I'll be right down there to grab a pizza. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I remember the restaurant. Oh, yeah. He was always there, too. Yeah, he was anywhere. There was food you could eat would be honest. Right? All right. So what do we know about the football here? And the Super Bowl's Everything precautions Now what's happened in Washington D c. They're all gonna be all crazy. They're gonna They're gonna be, uh, you know, not allowed fans and me bubble. What's going on with the Super Bowl? No right now it is what it is, and you know it's the same feeling they haven't said. They're going to take any extra precautions. I don't think there's gonna be any political posturing at the Super Bowl, so we'll be in Miami. They will have fans. We don't know how many fans But they will have some fans. And of course, the Rams still have a shot to get there. Which is pretty cool. Yeah. How? How healthy are the Ramses Donald gonna play? Did he break some ribs? Yeah, he dinged up a rib. But, he said today he's good. He's ready to go, so he'll be ready to go in Green Bay. We don't know who the quarterback is. Yet we can assume it's going to be Jared Goff. John Wolfe forgotten next finger last week, and I think of Gough is healthy. They will start him because whether people like it or not, he does give the Rams our best chance to win. Right. You know, Fred Rogan is with us Also. What? Gina grad. When I listen to these guys I call, you know, do either play by play for the Rams, and it's not the regular Rams. You know, guys, it's not. You know the guys doing radio. It's the the national guys on five. Every single one of these guys without exception, says that Donald is not only the best defensive player this year in the league, but he should get M V P and he might be the best defensive player in the history. The game. Yeah, Tim, it's hard to argue that fact what he does when he plays even if he's not tackling anybody. He occupies, like three guys on the defensive line, and he can literally pick anybody up and throw them like they were rag doll. He's a very unique talent. And he is such a disrupter in the game that you've always got a focus on him. And in doing that, it allows other players on the Rams defense to penetrate and sack the quarterback and pressure him. The Rams have the best defense in the National Football League. That's great. Why, Fred, can you stay with us? Yeah. Are you the best art Fred Rogan's by this It's Conway and Gina, grab her live on camp. I'm more now. Debra Mark,.
