They they had that great run. They were playing great baseball alive it at home. And it just worked out well for them and made this was bound to happen. A little regression West Coast trips, Fred You know this with the White Sox, always goofy. You can't put your finger on why Maybe it's simply the time zone means the time zone. The reason that hobby bobbled the ball two nights ago, and you know what I mean, like you just never know why these things happen. But two things happen at once. They went on the West Coast, and they were absolutely also do just to have some regressions. So none of these three games surprised me. It's a weird ballpark. The plan when you haven't played there in two years, a lot of new players Lot of relievers getting their first taste on the road like this, So I always say, you know, when you go out West 500 ish road trip would be nice. Now they have what four games left, so they better get moving just to get close to 500 here. You know it's a seven game trips so they can't go 500, But you get what I'm going with. Here It was, it was do. It was predictable. Now, let's see if they can turn around a bit played better based on the last four games. This guy Abbott They brought in yesterday looked pretty good. I mean, you probably knew who he was. He was with the he was with the team last year. The what? The alternate team most of the year last year, but he he actually looked pretty good for two winnings yesterday. Well, it's amazing their debut ng these relievers left and right, and a lot of them are from the Cubs system. Meeting Theo and Jed drafted them. Now we go back two years You couldn't find the Cubs pitcher that was drafted. That was on the team. You know what I mean? It's been great to see these guys get here and no matter what happens in the standings this season, this will benefit them down down the road. Already success at AnAnd success out of Keegan Thompson. Abbott did look good. So all good news on that front. Seeing these guys get up here and perform now They have to do it over and over and over again, you know, before we say these are successful draft picks, but I like what the Cubs are doing their their competing. They're winning. They're getting valuable in anxiety guys, and they're getting experience out of these guys. Before you came out. We played a couple of cuts, one from Nick Castano's and one from Liam Hendriks, talking about doctor and baseballs, and how MLB says they're going to crack down on it. Have you heard anything else? Because I know the baseball said that they might even hand down 10 game suspensions. Who that's not going to stop anybody. Well, we'll see. I mean, the first one might not. But if the second one is 20 and so on and so forth, it might make a difference. But you're you're not wrong. Guys are still going to try to get away with it. But if we see a slow suspensions that might change Buster only has as a lot of the details or, you know early details. They haven't really hammered it out just yet. But it's getting closer. Go to ESPN dot com for that. Really? They're putting a lot of onus on the umpires and the umpires are in the middle of these discussions. How exactly, they're going to police this thing and here's the thing I think in the past Managers would have gotten upset with umpires because are they policing both sides like you know, the Joe West thing? That's why Mike shit was so upset. Why? Geo Gallegos on this day? Why us on this date? But if umpires do their diligence on both sides, and this could be you know, often, who knows early be a daily thing Every every pitching change If they do their due diligence that I think managers will back off, and maybe this thing will find a level playing field, But the but the interesting thing will be okay. They're going to crack down on some of the obvious stuff. Then what do pictures do right? It's like when the steroids had to go. So to speak underground, like guys start taking gummy bears and stuff like that, right? Um what will pictures due to avoid? Getting getting caught. But initially I think, you know, maybe this will help it. Certainly it certainly didn't help to threaten like the 1st 23 months here, But maybe actual following through on penalties and kicking guys out will make a difference. I know your wife and your family love having you at home. Um, is there a chance that they will see you leave for a while? I mean, these things are things going to change the way you cover some of these things..

Fred in the battle of hogwarts but she still fights and even after fred dies she fights and kills bella tricks l'estrange daughter hugh is baltimore like right hand his second in command. So that just shows you how powerful she is and the even though her worst fear has come to pass she still able to fight and i love in the movie. is an audio podcast. So i can't really show this moment But in the movie. When ron comes in he is grieving over his brother. Mali's they're grieving as well. And while she's kind of got padding fred's head she reaches over and pets ront head to the so in the middle of her grief. She is still comforting. Kerr other son and that takes a level of like inner strength. That is very hard for a lot of people So i don't think she ever gives up an earlier. i mentioned. She loses two of her older brothers. And what could be her only brothers. Didn't i guess to that much research into it And that aspect specifically but still continues to go on be a wife. Be a mother be of valued member of the order of the phoenix when they come back To fight baltimore when he comes back. you know. During harry's time love never loses faith and at one point you know baltimore has taken over. And they're still fighting. Malaya arthur still fighting. And there's even a moment when arthur. Well hey rod undermining have invaded the ministry and he even still like threatens other people when he sees injustice even though he knows he's being watched even though he knows He's on thin ice. His family could be taken at any moment could be killed at any moment He still stands up for dirk cresswell and so i have The moment here for the second time how he tried to get out. But this time found his way blocked by mr weasley psalm. One moment ran cohen. The lift doors closed and as they climbed down another floor. Mr weasley said i hear you laid information about the chriswell. How are harry. Have the impression that mr weasley anger was no less. Because of the brush with percy he decided his best chance was to act stupid. So he said. Don't pretend said. Mr weasley fiercely you check them the wizard who faked his family tree. Didn't you so. If i did said harry so cresswell is ten times the wizard. You're said mr weasley quietly. Lifts sank lower and if he survives as cabin you have to answer to him to mention his wife his sons and he's friends harry interrupted. You know you're being tracked don't you. Is that a fit ran. Cohen said mr weasley loudly said harry. It's a fact they're watching your every move. The lift doors opened a had reached the atrium. Mr weasley gave harry s scathing. Look sweat from the lift always hopeful and one of the moments i think of is that says specifically that at one point in the book so the weasley have this clock that had the hands of the clock or all the faces of the members of the family and instead of time like you know twelve one two three four. It has different things like school home. Traveling work one of them is mortal peril and in this moment. You know we hear the author talking about how all the hands are pointed to mortal peril but there still seems to be a sense of hope and they're still fighting even though like their magic clock is literally tell the all of them are in this great danger. She turned to look at a lodge clock. The worst perched awkwardly on top of a pile of sheets in the washing basket of the end of the table. Harry recognized it at once. It had nine hens each inscribed with the name if a family member usually hung on the weasley sitting room wall that was current position suggested that mrs. weasley has taken to carrying it around the house with every single one of its nine hands was now pointing at mortal payroll spain like that for a while. Now said mrs. weasley in an unconvincingly casual voice. Ever since you know who came back into the open i suppose. Everybody's in mortal danger. Now i don't think it can be just our family. I don't know anyone else who's got a clock like this so i can't check. Love endures through every circumstance somalian. Arthur eloped during the first wizard in world. War survived that survived losing you know molly specifically survived losing her brothers arthur his brothers in law and we see them survive a second wizard ing war together. We see them fight in this war and play vital roles kind of in the intelligence system of the order of the adults that are used to fight and resist against baltimore and the death eaters. And we don't really see there's so much in the books I guess we can infer a lot from the epilogue and there's a lot of things out there on The potter more site about this. But they do end up enduring fred's death they talk about. They have grandchildren percy. I think names his daughter after his mother. Molly and i wish we could see a bit more. I think maybe there's pardon. It's hoping that we see a bit more of molly and arthur. Because i think they're just they're just a really sweet great couple Just fairy good people. And i had originally picked them for an episode idea. I had about what it means to be a good christian. And i think i'm still going to do that. Episode that may pull some of these same clips. because we don't get a whole lot of molly and arthur during the books but what we do get says a lot about their their characters. And i would be remissed if i did not also add this moment. One of my favorite mauleon arthur moments. I think the one if you are familiar with the books know about are also very sad. It's not in the movie. it's this moment author. Is that you yes k. Miss the weasley. But i would say that even if i were a death eater de ask the question. Oh honestly molly ovalles to right. What is your dearest ambition to find out how airplanes stay up. This is weasley nodded and turn the doorknob. But apparently mr weasley was holding tight to it on the other side because the door remained firmly. Shut molly. I've got to ask you.

Yeah, they Because I mean, you know, the Washington's have stayed on the other end of the country should be one rebel team and in Washington D C That just goes by d. Maggie I know you guys think gotta win record and Let's be honest. I mean, he's most likely gonna be backpack here. My question is, what do you guys think that he does real? Well, I mean, I don't think he touches the defense of the defense. Is underachieving. Uh, you know, I don't think he punches special things much, and he's not really calling plays. He's not doing what we all thought he was gonna do, and then it's a quarterback and get the offense going motivating speeches. Yeah, I just want to know what does the guy do that real? Well, I'm gonna help us next year, you know? Well, the one thing Margo is what everybody says. Even people that we had covered the book the bears earlier in previous years, they said that the guy's like playing for Nagy. And they don't give up on him Now. Wouldn't you want that from all your You know, Every coach should have that. Otherwise he shouldn't be a coach of a team, right? You're right about that. He doesn't He? They brought him here because he was supposed to be an offensive genius. Now, is it just that is offensive place? Don't work, right? His offensive plays don't work with this quarterback. I've kind of enjoyed what he's done since he gave up play calling, But now we heard last week that maybe he's still got his hands involved in a little bit. Yeah, I know what you guys think. What do we bring in a minute? Marco, You're breaking up and we got your point. What kind of coach should we bring in? Um And the thing is I kind of like a coach that comes in that's gonna organize everybody get the best play caller, the best defensive coordinator the best that this the best that that instead of a guy to gauge its right instead of a guy that's going to, But as as you know, as is he was talking about lovey Smith was a defensive guy. A lot of times. Your coaches are either offensive or defensive guys. They call the plays now there are some coaches. Who are you know, just the head coach is their job to organize everything. And it's Matt's job to as as the NFL you know, the Bears head coach, but I don't know if I'd like a coach. I mean, I think every bears coach Victim was probably the last Bears coach. That was a General coach. Okay, you had your offensive coordinator head your defense, and when it did, it wasn't sitting there calling plays. Okay? He wasn't calling plays all the time. But all the other guys you bring in the guy that's a defensive mind. The guy in wind said mind that every Brian specialists They've done that. And that is okay in the world right Specialist. Well, nobody don't You never know what the before A guy gets the job, And that's another thing The Bears have not hired other than John Fox. They've not hired a guy that had previous NFL head coaching experience. FBI guys that were coordinators and everything else, but not head coaches other than John Fox, and nobody liked the way that worked out right so Let's go back to the phones. 3123323776 will do that. We are going to get this in baseball. We get to a little bit of bulls talk because they've been very fun to watch. I tweeted last night. And I even got Sylvie talking about soccer, which is interesting as it Sylvie. The Bulls are fun to watch again, he said. Yes, they are. What's going on with the fire in there? Membreno China, which is very beautiful. Their beauty donated a 12 piece serving of membreno, China to this which we will be auctioning off gorgeous. It's gorgeous stuff, and you can get it in the original red, which people know, but there's also a black version of it that El Tovar uses Oh my God. We also have one original Membreno plate that was donated. By one of our favorite Fred heads in Kansas City. Heather Paxton from her collection is that Harvey family Harvey Family members donate stuff from their own collections. Daggett Harvey is donating two champagne glasses that Fred Harvey actually used. So this read this read platter pieces is old. Yeah, the single Membreno pieces actual Membreno piece from back in the day, Membreno China was started being made in the 1930 reproduced now, Stephen being reproduced now. It's very produced, but the original pieces obviously you're worth lakhs for me. Fred Harvey Materials are really collectible when I was working on my friend Harvey biography, Appetite for America. I was on eBay every day because there's certain things you can't see anymore unless you find them on eBay. But people love collecting friend Harvey Materials. First of all from Harvard, people had amazing taste. So they own amazing Native American art, the commission lots of Native American art and Western art. And there's a lot of art with it with a friend Harvey and perimeter that people probably don't even know has a tide of Fred Harvey. All right, so some of those were some of the really good pieces. The dinner, the blanket box you can donate as much as you want to the foundation for the History Museum. You can buy a coffee cup with a With a Harvey girl on it for 25 bucks, and not everything is big money on the on the auction. Some of the pieces are really, really, really nice or the goofy dude. I thought it was Jeff Goldblum it at first in in a chair he's going to do a book club. Kind of thing is, Is that you? Oh, that's may. So thank you. So my donation this year I gave two things one. I'm going to do a book club. Where I will. I will sign 10 copies of appetite for America. Okay, send them to your book club. Oh, you can read it. And then we will organize a zoom for your book, Love and I will talk to you until you were out of questions. Okay on it could be done anytime. And, ah! So we're doing that I also gave up several years ago. A beer company in Flagstaff made a special, eh? That had pain boy son done for the Grand Canyon right on the seven stages of drunken. Yeah, and it's now out of print. You can't get these cans anymore, but I had an extra set of them, so I'm putting my set. Up for auction and these cans are really cool in the paintings are really wonderful. They used to hang in bright angel Lodge in the bar. Oh, my God! And the starting bid on that is only 35 bucks. Right, So we tried to have things of all different price range is some people are incident. Friend Harvey, You're interested in books because a lot of the old friend Harvey catalogs have some of the most amazing Native American art in them. And the Harvey companies, really. They introduced Native American art all over the country. People would buy it on the trains, they would buy it in stores in the train station's William Randolph Hearst. We know collected everything is there to do. His first in Native American heart he bought was from a friend Harvey Little store that was set up in Chicago. And that's how he became obsessed with Native American art in any but I guess all of it For a period of time, So it's a It's amazing story. Amazing tradition, but the auction is online. Now you could go up on it and bid on the dinner and start bidding on the other things. It'll be open. It's a silent auction until a week from Saturday and then Saturday night. We will we will do some of that. We will finish up some of the bigger items and you'll also meet some of the donors so well zoo When we're going to do their thing, we're going to zoom to them. We'll zoom to Daggett Harvey Jr. Chicago, and he'll show you friend. Harvey's glasses that were that were auctioning will zoom. You, too. Helen Harvey Mills, and she'll show you the original catalogue for the friend Harvey Art Collection. Which she has a copy of that She's allowing us to auction off on many other things. So you'll you'll meet Alan after Valentina. They'll be in Winslow. I mean, if you're going to be on zoom, you might have all you.

"There were so many people waiting in line to hear them that they had to give the same talk at four. And so we realized there was there were a lot of people who were interested because there were a lot of different entry points. Some people were interested because of foodie history. Some people were interested because the Fred Harvey company basically control the Native American art business, right? From the turn of the century up through the 19 forties. All the train think about all the train people. Right. There's all theirs. All people who are interested in Santa Fe Railroad itself, and there's a lot of trained people. And so we've We've kept this going all these years. And, of course, up till this year. We always had the friend Harvey Weekend in Santa Fe, right. Basically all summer. We've been planning for it to be in Santa Fe and in Las Vegas and worrying about how Cove it was going to affect this and whether it would be safe to try to put it on. Put any part of it on. In person in New Mexico, and we kept these decisions open for a pretty long time because Again. We're tryingto be there for the people who want to come and our partners are in the hospitality business in the hospitality business being yanked back and forth. And we want them to be able to come. So finally, a few weeks ago, we had to finally decide that the whole thing needed to be online. And so it is going to be online. So let's start with you still going to do the lungs is that people from all over the country can now watch it. People for Santa Fe can watch it on their computers. Watch it on their phones. And people all over the country who are interested in Fred Harvey, who haven't been able to come to the Fred Head weekend. Can come. So Fred had weekend. You've been to it you've you've worked with us before, and we've talked about this before, is usually a bunch of different lectures about subjects that come out of Fred Harvey and then a big dinner. At La Fonda. All of this raises money for the New Mexico History Museum. And that we do an auction of Fred Harvey related items. And there's lots of cool, you know, native art. There's there's things that came from La Fonda from back in the past. There's Membreno China, which is really wonderful. There's lots of books about Native American art. And there are hotel stays at all the different Fred Harvey hotels all to Bharat La Fonda, La Posada. Fascinating. So we're doing it all online and people could sign up. They can. They can listen to it. Watch it from wherever they want. People who sign up. If they miss any of the events, they could get caught, they get recordings of them. And so we're doing a full Fred Harvey weekend with seven talks. Go ahead. No. Keep that thought. All right. We'll come back. We'll tell people how they can sign up for the lectures. When we come back did electric and then we'll do the auction. Talk about Fred Harvey some more. And then we will venture off into some of the history that that Stephen.

The declaration was written in the Constitution was written and we're feeling like we helped today. Do you live in the historic part of Philadelphia? Ideo. I mean, my wife and I live like several blocks away from the Liberty Bell. If you had your choice, you live in Santa Fe. But you live in Philadelphia, you know, And I think, Stephen one time when we had you on. Maybe we're talking about rush me we're talking about. Maybe you're talking about Fred Harvey. I think you said Sometimes you're kind of amazed how little you know the streets in the historic parts of Philadelphia. Maybe I dreamt that No, it is true mean part. I think part of the reason that I ended up writing a biography of Benjamin Russia, so I could finally figure out what happened here, You know, you know, cause Santa Fe. Look, I love Santa Fe. I live in Santa Fe in my mind even when I'm Sitting here in Philadelphia, but you know, if you deal with a tourist area, sometimes people don't want to deal with the tourist area. So we have a tourist area where people go to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and all that kind of stuff. So You know, you get stuck behind horses and buggies and you have to fight off Benjamin Franklin impersonators and stuff. But I'm feeling pretty patriotic and pretty historically relevant today. All right, we'll get to that. And you don't mind talking about that. But let's talk about friend Harvey. First of all, sure. You're Fred Head describe what That malady is mostly about. Sure. So some people in Santa Fe in the area know that Fred Harvey company was a company that basically was the first major hospitality company in the in the in the nation, and they ran all the restaurants and hotels. On the Santa Fe Railroad, and they created a Fonda so people won't know the history of La Fonda. Fonda was a Fred Harvey Hotel, the cast of NATO hotel that was just restored in Las Vegas. Is a friend Harvey Hotel, the Grand Canyon Hotels, the South Rim, El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge. Those air Fred Harvey hotels, and there were also Fred Harvey Union station Chicago unit Station. Was Fred Harvey, Kansas City, ST Louis. Obviously, the Albuquerque station was a huge friend Harvey Outpost Union station, Los Angeles. So Fred Harvey was amazing company that spanned it started in the 18 seventies. Oh, and it existed up through the 19 sixties and seventies. And it basically invented a lot of things that we take for granted, especially in the South West, because the Harvey companies who basically took care of people when they came to the Southwest, so As tourism became one of the major industries in the southwest, especially in New Mexico and Arizona that fell on the Fred Harvey company. So the friend Harvey company got involved the restaurants, hotels. It brought the food of New Mexico to the whole world, and it brought the food of the world into New Mexico. The Harvey girls that they hired on Lee single women to be their waitresses. They were the first major national force of working women and over 100,000 women between the 18. Eighties and the 19 forties had the opportunity to be Harvey Girls and travel all over the country working for the Santa Fe Railroad, and they also married all these local people made a lot of towns in New Mexico. They're founding families are people who work for the railroad who married Harvey Girls and settle down and settle those towns. So it's the influence of of the friend Harvey Company in New Mexico is something we continue to explore. It is the reason why the New Mexico history Museum, which is where I first started talking about Fred Harvey in Santa Fe has AH permanent exhibit of Fred Harvey material in the mezzanine between The floor. That's the really old stuff and the Fords really new stuff because Harvey and the railroad really represent that middle period that period in that from the late 18 seventies into the early 19 hundreds, when Santa Fe reinvented itself as a city different And the Harvey Company, you know, brought Santa Fe merchants and the Native Americans from the pueblos to the world's fair in 1915. Both in San Diego and San Francisco. So the Harvey company has had a really interesting relationship with New Mexico. And so it's not surprising that even though the company was in all kinds of different cities, and it was based in Kansas City, and later Chicago, the resurgence of fascination with Fred Harvey as a really interesting way of dealing with American history, especially The Southwest is really taking its place in Santa Fe and the New Mexico History Museum when it opened set out to have a Fred Harvey exhibit and brought me in because I happen to write a book about Fred Harvey. And Fran Levine, who was head of the museum then and Jenny Kimble, who's known raised a weekend for me in a April night of 2010. Having no idea whether people would be interested in it or not on I gave a talk at the museum. It was one of the many days with power went out in Santa Fe, so I gave half to talk in the dark with a flashlight. And then we had this wonderful meal at La Fonda, and it turned out that there were many more Fred heads than we ever realized. And what this event did was the people who There been people dressing up his Harvey Girls in Winslow, Arizona, who didn't know there were women driving dressing up Harvey Girls in Florence, Kansas, so It started to be this thing where people who were interested in Fred Harvey people who were interested in Santa Fe Railroad people heard Judy Garland because, of course, Judy Garland played a Harvey Girl in the movie, The Harvey Girls. People inside. A lot of different subjects started to come to Santa Fe. Teo to talk about this. We we had this weekend 2010. We did another one in 2011, and more and more people just came every year. One year Jenny Campbell and Alan Affeldt, who owns La Posada in Winslow, and now the cast in ADA in Las Vegas. Did a talk at the museum A two o'clock on the on a Sunday. There were so many people waiting in line to hear them that they had to give the same talk at four. And so we realized there was there were a lot of people who were interested because there were a lot of.

"Fred headed down toward the demonstration. Protests event gathering. I don't know you never know what words to use. Some people are gonNA. Get triggered no matter what word you use, it's not a protest, a demonstration whatever it is, it's is scheduled peaceful demonstration that is going to be around. Lake. Yulon will see how everything goes. We heard earlier from the Mayor of Orlando. Buddy dyer talking about how things sort of disintegrated and away at the very end of the protest last night again. You can't reiterate enough that the vast. Vast majority of people there were peaceful and didn't do anything, but you always end up with this three four hundred people extra. who were all hyped now? You've walked around the whole city down your things, but they're the most hyped and they don't want to just leave and go home. They they want and interaction and many times they try to coax out and interaction with the police. Last night. There were some. Some fireworks shot off towards the cops. There were some rocks and bottles that were thrown then a smaller splinter group went over by the Amway. Center and they were throwing chunks of concrete of the police officers, so some tear gas was fired. Everybody cleared out honestly I thought law enforcement did a pretty spectacular job. I know it's gotTa. Be Difficult to be around large crowds of people where a decent percentage. Percentage of them. Just do not like police officers and are not afraid to tell you that and are not afraid to say things about how you're a bad person, because you're a police officer, no matter if you're responsible for any of the things like George. Floyd's death that have gone down or not, that's gotta be a hard thing to walk into I. Mean and that's your job to do it, but. Still it's a tough thing to walk into a crowd of people who are I mean can not you've personally but protesting against your profession for this This taint that's now over it well and like. Don't don't laugh about ain't over it. And it's because of this guy that the the police officers themselves don't even like because he's making them all look bad and there are a lot of police officer trying to do the right thing at all times and you, because there are so many of them across the country and across the world you know it becomes all one organization in some people's. It reminds me of the guards in. In London where they just have to stand there perfectly still facing forward and people try to go out there and mess with them, and you're never supposed to have a reaction, but when you're a human being. That's just kind of scratching at you. You know like people are screaming in your face. I always thought it was interesting when they had hired off. Duty Police officers to work concerts. For rap artists that are singing either f the police one eight seven on. Care they sing along. Along with that, so there's this whole thing. Last night was a great affair was fantastic to see people take to the streets and get there. 'cause out there whether you agree with it or not, you should feel that way, and you should try to be consistent in your life, and if you see protests that are spiraling out of control, you should be upset about that if you see people peacefully protesting, you should think that is a great snapshot of America now. I saw of all people. This is kind of stunning to me. One of the guys from Nirvana of all bands. The basis for Nevada Chris Nova Celik. He posted something. The only person alive that you could call from Nirvana anymore. Dave, well. If you're talking about Dave, Grohl you're gonNA. Talk about the FOO fighters and Kurt. Cobain not.

"And self proclaimed or the self admitted Fred had wrote a book no no no no no no no wrote a book called appetite for America also written about supermodel G. about mental health and then in about about a bunch of things that will cover here in a minute your your other work another interest as well all right so you know you and out Alan now felt in of course Allen has Lapus out over in Winslow all in isn't it also loves to restore hotels has will plot of ours we the plaza up in Las Vegas and then bot or kids kind of under trust the Castaneda hotel which is right along the train tracks in kind of the old neighborhood of Las Vegas and because he is restoring that and the rooms are open now and the bars open for food and theme which will be the restaurant that Sean and Katie will open up some time I think after the new year it is that neighborhood that part of old Las Vegas has been restored and coming back to life that's amazing between that and the legal tender in Lamy it's it's it's really a cool story I know it's a credible and I have to say you know when we started coming doing Fred Harvey events ten years ago I would go to speak in Las Vegas and people would have this look on their face whatever I talked about all they wanted to know was what are you going to do to get somebody to come in and buy the cast in Asia and re open it and it was it was like the pipe dream of the state and people knew the story of how Alan and Tina had bought lopsided wins lower brought it back to life and all they wanted was the same thing to happen for Las Vegas and for the first couple years it it was just not gonna happen I remember talking to Allen about it and talking to other people about it it just seemed like it was never going to happen and then lo and behold Allen finally convinced the owner to lower the price enough that he could consider investing in it and getting the store tax credits needed to do it and he figured out a really smart thing he bought the plaza and the cast Aneta the plaza was an active hotel and the plaza you know could run and allow them to start doing the reconstruction of the cast in Asia but it's in an amazing labor of love out there and I mean I remember going there when all the you know many of the windows were broken out in the chances that this is going to be hotel again were so low and I went we went there with the Harvey family and they will get anything going to happen and you know I considered you know this Sunday the twenty seventh to be really the grand re opening of the hotel some rooms have been opened and they're still in a working on some stuff in the restaurant will be fully open till the spring but this is when the you know the Fred has returned to Las Vegas to see this amazing event and so on Sunday Alan Tina will give us a tour of the hotel I'm gonna be staying in the hotel for the first time which I am so excited about as are many members of the Harvey family who obviously never thought this was ever going to be possible and then Tina has our our opening the mayor gallery at three and then we'll have a big dinner this was a clear will make for us there and I want breakfast there the next morning but we're staying over the castle data which is you know it's kind of a little hospitality miracle and I hope it's everything for Las Vegas that people Las Vegas deserve I mean let's say you have a great town and they deserve all the work that not only out and he did it but all the people who work for them I mean they just they hired so many people to work on those hotels and have done so much try to lure other businesses to the town which is a beautiful town I to talk us into buying a place there and I have to say were every year a little closer doing it so it's it's really a wonderful thing and and while we're going to be there for the weekend what I would say is that you know I think that was Vegas I don't know it it seems to be that Las Vegas need to become kind of the Brooklyn of Santa Fe and it's it's actually not that far away from San phase of the mature than some of the Santa Fe suburbs the housing is this wonderful houses there that are not so expensive is a beautiful center of town the people are great the university is great my wife and I always have a great time were there they were great bookstore so you to be sighted at the we're gonna spend this amazing weekend there with the Harveys and with Fred has from all over the country I mean this is all about people from New Mexico going to Las Vegas every weekend and thinking of it as a place especially a culinary place where they can go I mean the kid isn't open yet as a full restaurant but the bar is already getting so much attention I mean I I sit and look at the pictures these green chili cheese burgers and and hear about the onion rings like there are some heavenly concoction so I really can't wait to go there and stay there and it's going to be a great thing and it's it's it's real triumph you know originally there were New Mexico Fred has an Arizona Fred heads and the fact that Alex you know in New Mexico now means that sort of the whole southwest is together and the people who are insured for Harvey are really nice people they're really interesting and interested they read it they they know a lot about history and we really just feel incredibly lucky to have them in our lives you know there are other things happening with the railyard here and the train here of exciting things will be taking place we have that the giants steam locomotive down in Albuquerque which is now had fire in the boiler and so they'll be trains possibly trains tourist trains coming up with Pullman cars and steam locomotive coming back up as far as maybe Las Vegas or maybe on maybe maybe two rats home maybe even beyond that there's a lot of exciting things taking place in northern New Mexico around the culinary around the trains analog around the old western history if we go further back to the founding of this country last time you were here United in the van and collected works around the book rush about Benjamin rush a founding father of this country that not a lot of people know about are more people of picking up the book more people finding out about this doctor who is an amazing character yeah no I mean since you and I talked to by the way it was we had a great time the collected works at that event I I have to say that badger Russia was sort of the lost founder signer of the declaration of independence the founding father of American mental health care in just a fascinating character who seem to have a a version of the the entire founding of the country the known and heard a lot of people heard the story I mean it the book has got a lot of nice tension it was a finalist for the George Washington book prize which is the biggest early American history prize which I was rather astonished us finals for that actually dinner as well as Thursday night we find out if we won and and so it's it's been really wonderful experience and I can only hope that it is anything close to what the Harvey experience has been which is the people keep finding the book and keep being interested not only in Fred Harvey but the way the for Harvey gives them access to the southwest to explore all kinds of different aspects of life in history in the southwest and I hope that rush rush certainly for me was a way to learn about I mean I lived down the street from independence hall and and up until the time I did this book I had about tenth grade knowledge of what actually happened during the American revolution you know what this country's actually kinda interesting interview no turns out that the story of the country is utterly fascinating once you meet the people and what's great about Russia the characters that he not only was a signer he was everybody's Dr I kind of everybody shrink and so you get to know the founding fathers in a much different way through him and through his family and especially through his friendship with John Adams and Thomas Jefferson you know one thing is that Russia is best known for is that Adams and Jefferson didn't speak for many years after the horrible lectured at eighteen hundred rush brought them back together you Sir did founding father family therapy on intervention he did yeah she did intervention through letters and he convinced them to be friends again because it was poor it was important he was afraid that partisanship which was invented in their time not in our time that political partisanship could blow apart you know this the founding friendship of the country and he thought it was incredibly important to get them back together and he did and they actually live thirteen years longer than him and you know they died on the same day on July fourth the fiftieth anniversary of the ratification of the of the declaration of independence which is so amazing so the rush story was really something that I really felt very honored to be able to do and I'd give a lot of talk about rush and hope to continue doing that I do I give talks at hospitals give talks at historical such in struggle situations medical conferences convention Russian the father of American medicine and he also was the one who really gives us access to the other founders and still in the movie the book just came out in paperback yeah it's it should be all over the place I hope in New Mexico it's all over the place everywhere else yes the real quickly here because wrote a book about twenty years ago call bitter pills inside the hazardous world of of legal drugs a bunch of townies of came to agreements today in fact with drug companies around the opioid crisis and I'm trying to find out what the status of Santa Fe county is in the city of Santa Fe if we might be going along that line but I am having a difficult time doing why were you ahead of of the of the curve in in seeing the the the danger the peril of of these illegal drugs yeah it's interesting I mean I got interested in this because my wife had an adverse reaction to one pill of an antibiotic she was given it was a new drug she had a seizure at a and a manic reaction and I got very interested in sort of how drugs get approved and so I wrote an article about the drugs that she took in about the whole approval process that got a lot of attention and I just found myself going further further down the rabbit hole to understand all this so the one thing I will say about all the settlements I'm glad they're happening and I hope they get done soon I think it's incredibly important that the money from the settlements goes to care yes it goes to addiction care goes to mental health care and doesn't just go into the general coffers of the states because they often see these losses the bonanza for that but mental health care in addiction care which need to be integrated should be paid for with this money from this because those systems having.
