"Santa Claus comes and welcome back yes not only do we have Santa Claus coming right here on the Franky Boyer show but we have the author of the gospel of Santa Claus it's in tridents fired by the true story of Saint Nicholas and joining us is Wayne Vandervoort Vander wal and Wayne welcome it is a pleasure I thank you thank you for having me so when you when you were in the middle of a divorce in two thousand eight it was a terrible year the holidays arrived our father is too he had seen going common you wanted to make the holidays more meaningful so yeah take it from there tell us what you did yes I started researching more about the holiday Christmas Santa Claus and in Saint Nicolas I knew there is a connection between St Nicolas and Santa Claus but I didn't really know the details and when I started researching on the are not only did I discover he's a real person was real person but he had a fascinating inspiring story some of the highlights of the story is he was born just a couple centuries after Jesus was around in a country code Listia and today the country is the country of Turkey and he was born to wealthy Christian parents which I think was a miracle by itself just because it was a Greek culture with all their god and they were ruled by the Roman Empire with all their god and then emperor Diocletian who persecuted Christians in Haiti Christians he proclaimed himself as the god during that time too so it was a tough time for Christians couple highlights real quick so necklaces parents died when he was young and the plague so here here did their fortune and he felt called by god to give it all away to the poor and the sick and the suffering and that started the lead story yeah yeah yeah yeah and does it really needs story and just one more highlights but he went on to become a priest and bishop in the church and was persecuted by emperor Diocletian and he was imprisoned for five years so the real Santa Claus is then time in the big house and so yeah you has real colorful story what was inspiring for me and my kids during that time that time was just to see while your family because the real Santa Claus he knows Dathan loss and pain and she and persecution but yet here though able to overcome it with faith and love and hope and your audience for giving us an answer this Ross firing for for us at that time so you know this is a this is a really great little piece of information that many of us may not have known out of these facts about Santa cries and as Santa Claus that surprised many people that he was in prison that he was you know he inherited all that money and gave it all away and I mean it really is the true meaning of Christmas and and why do you think that we we are not really why are we not understanding the beginnings of this story of this Christmas out of a book that you have written and now today can we can we be a little more generous this time of the year and tell us about the book the gospel of Santa Claus okay well yeah I think well we we definitely have strayed away from the origin of of the true meaning of Christmas as religious holiday and and that the birth of Christ to who came to save all mankind humankind from fans and that it's a time of joy rejoicing a reality and we've gotten away from a good will towards man and and all that and so what it really helped me and my kids do is was get away from being self centered about the holiday and become more god centered more family centered and more other standards and they're really focusing on the important things you know at the end of our day's Ury were laying in a hospital bed you know we're not gonna have our house and car and all that in the room with us we're going to have our loved ones there and so that's something we really need to be emphasized now and that's the hope and prayer with this book is that to bring us back to the true meaning of Christmas is relationships and and the loving others and this is the time for those of us who are going through suffering times whether it's a loss of a loved one or a divorce or a lost job or whatever that that this is a time to reflect and remember what's important in life and really care for those who are near and dear to us and that's my hope for the book is it I split it up into thirty chapters it could be read as a historical novel any time of year or thirty days before Christmas and that at the end of each chapter I have what I call devotion were the reader can go deeper into the content of the chapter and and the book covers the error some of the highlights of Nicolas of life some of which we've already talked about but then really brings it home to us today how we can implement a lot of the beautiful qualities and characteristics that he lived in display of love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness self control gentleness and so yeah that's were were right with the book how wonderful thank you for doing that and the other piece to this story is that how did you as a dad on this on a very short income provide for Christmas that that year and and how how do you have that that John what do you what do you guys do to celebrate the holiday but one thing I shared with marketers that that seasonal is that I've I'm more into doing that having I'd much rather do things with them and make memories and have find and then by a bunch of stuff that we're just going to give it away the next year and so just basic things right zero OO making cookies and popcorn and then watching Christmas shows and movies driving around looking at Christmas light reading stories together so many Christmas stories out there students and crafts Colin families writing letters sent so yeah the Oregon center remembering what the season about but then seemed more family centered doing things together as a family you know doing a gratitude jar you know every day throwing in between thanksgiving and Christmas some more thought I love that and reading it yeah I love that that's a great day so when do you have a website that people can go to to find out more about some of these ideas and then the book is the gospel of St at Santa Claus inspired by the true story of Saint Nicholas tell us what the website is yeah the gospel of Santa Claus dot com the gospel of Santa Claus dot com and you'll have all the information there as far as for several.

"Are you guys are fucking tired you fucking miserable. You'd if you divorce your partners because it's really hard to do this. And some of us are childless or some of us like have kids and don't work it because it's that's why people have wives men have wise that they can have a job I often say to my partner. I'm like I wish I had a fucking wife so all this shit. Just just even like like, I'll give him like, you know, marvez feet. I wish I had a fucking wife to where my feet because you didn't do it. Good. I can't have it all either. I'm saying like in that moment made me think like, yes. Like, she's really good her job, and it can't be in sacrifice of her personal life. But she chose it. That's what in the in. Like feminism is about the whatever you choose. And in in that seems she's not that sad that the marriage ended like you hear what she says. She sat at how it's going to affect her kids. Yeah. Yeah. Because I don't care what anybody writes about me. But my girls it's so unfair to my girls. Right. So, and I think that was like, you know, the scripts way or Miranda's way of saying like the job is way more important to her than her marriage. But her kids are maybe like the number one. And I think that was important to point out. And and I think it's it was necessary. So that we're not thinking like maranda type of person can be who she is. And then also have like a really great support system because it's maybe not completely realistic. Right. Appreciate it that I liked. I liked it. And it's like there the trophy nece that I loved about like the only seen. Morand is not wearing makeup and you're like. It's a Jane Fonda. Does it all the time grace and Franky love? Silence. Jane Fonda does this thing and grace has anyone? Okay. In the first episode of grace and Franky where Jane Fonda apparently has some sort of wire around her head a hold hurt said our skin. Yes. Reading boss in the pilot emphasis. I saw a beauty regimen of caliber even I wasn't familiar of that like I dunno. I love grace and Franky Jane Fonda has a wire around her head like to pull to pull back, but it was a wire attached to her whig because she Jane Fonda is hoof alleged. I mean, what even light when narrow streets bear face. They do these close up on her face. And I'm like girl who is your doctor 'cause good job or what does the wire wary? Here's a liar. Yes. Because her skin's looking good. And like, it's very good skin. I have a high death. Helen. I don't know that you guys have one I do know more. I was thinking like like she either has a really good doctor or like some kind of like wire thing. But like she looks magnificent and she can't go bare face, but like for us as viewers like oh my God. So brave that like when was gray hair went bare face. I'm Vic condition that way. And we're conditioned to think. Wow. She looked so good cause for her age. And it's like, no like, she looks good. Yeah. That's a way of society feels that way too. I think the movie like wants you to be like, I don't know some mix of either like, wow, she looks different or like, wow. She looks good like your for her age. I don't know that the movies necessarily like this should be normalized like that. I don't think that this. The intention vibe. But we all like I'm having to undo a lot of conditioning where I like we'll catch myself thinking, oh, well, she looks really good for her age. But it's like, no, that's a horrible way to think. Because like we are conditioned to think that was women age. They you know, they lose their value. And you know, we have this standard of beauty that says that only young women can be considered attractive, and like I'm having to undo a lot of this thinking still shall we talk about Andy..

"You'll be appalled by the injustices he suffered receiving a double life sentence for something he had nothing to do with but he will also be amazed by his ability to overcome and i was thrilled to see him doing so well now but also curious how you make peace with the years you never get back the things you missed and the ones that camp beyond on frankie stat who'd raised his kid says a single father died while frank he was in prison and didn't live to see his son exonerated and would frikkie was arrested at sixteen he'd gotten his girlfriend pregnant he'd already been locked up for six months when his oldest son theo was born and he was released two weeks before theo's 21st birthday having missed his entire childhood below can recall his mother it's heartbreaking thinking about this but there was a call that the colder and she said that just the night before my son brought a calendar to her and told her that i don't care when the just give me an idea when he's getting they'll like circle a day secondly test and look forward to it broker kerr she told me and broke me as well because i'm doing life when i was in prison now would write him frequently and he would visit me at least once a year and i really believe based on their admits which is sort of silly they'll but i believe that if a whenever he came home flat out william be the best friends dodger games it whoa if he's odor web beers and disarmed fantasising in then loan behold i'm out and the things that i was in absurd of uses foundation later writing phone calls the annual visit is an amount too much for him i think for me to maybe the first hand even twenty thirty times.

"So the dea said seen this middleaged lawyer walks into the courtroom and just a man's to be heard sold the proceedings that were underway per halted and to my surprise urban yeltsin's courtroom he says that he has a klein at suit that's in the hallway right outside the courtroom was one to come forward right here right now and admitted to court and testify that he was present at the day of the crime and that he was involved in that incident and that i wasn't and this was like music to my ears finally the truth was going to be exposed and the judge said you know what it's too late this witness should a came in months ago this case has been resolved by jury and literally to the lawyer to just leave and that was just so heartbreaking the charge was first degree murder so they gave me three years to life for the murder of donald sarpi plus an additional life sentence for the attempted murder of of the sun damien who was here when the father was murdered so thirty years to life plus live liberty was equivalent to never getting out when i heard this number in these words three years to life plus life because also young naive have to admit that i didn't know what that meant at that time in my life i was lucky to sort of foresee a month into my teacher and maybe at i think looking back now the fact that i was so naive and so young it really protected me is i think if i was fully conscious of light while this means i'll never get out at that specific moment i would have really lost him but not in too many years later that i realize like wow this is a huge uphill battle.

"It was really sloppy investigation work for a driveby shooting to be solved in the matter of ours is unbelievable the little physical evidence there was no vehicle there was no gun other was was just one boys supposedly identification from a photograph that in woolsey but he went and told his friends is the remaining five boys who was her with him who they should pick so when they were shown the photo up the all pick my picture as well because the crime was murder i was trained as an adult and sold there i was at six seniors owed very scared young man but there was something deep within me that knew that this would be resolved i was not anticipating this going wrong and when i heard these witnesses testify one boy for example was seen when he was asked so how do you know of that frankie was that the gunman in the bushes while i i know it's him because we go school together when the scene class and so that's very compelling if it was true but it turns out that the school that he was accusing me of attending was a school i never gone to mind her life another boy talked about when he was asked paul cerdan argue that frankie's the one who fired a gun and he says while i know it's him because i saw frankie fight the sky friend of mine where he was in a fistfight and i know it's him specifically because when he was in this fight my friend tories shirt and frankie's large tattoo that was on his chest was exposed.
