"Ben lines in for rich hanging out with the hollywood set here at the rich eisen soup kitchen. Great ideas to the sharks on shark tank any traction with find out what your parents passed app you got going to but i actually met the person that helped me Come up with that in hawaii. My roommate which i said. I was alone but i was with people kind of visceral at that point. Yeah but no progress in the app. No big fine. Find your friends on. It's great about that is it. Mike had told us that he had had this idea for years. And then having an idea and having a planned out to talk to that guy in less than twenty four hours with no production by me. If i had a human to help me planet hopefully outta humid here that in business if there was only human being who can help this idea for years and then after he did the pitch come to find out. That app had already existed for iran. Had known it was a perfect idea. We love he actually said after the fact one of the other sharks might have bought it. I thought it was a bad idea. Kevin durant go play in the olympics. I really did. I thought coming off the achilles coming off a shortened season a weird season. He's got foot problems already year. Fourteen thirty two. He's already done the olympics twice. I thought this is kind of a bad idea. Nope knows a great idea. A great idea because great. Go hand in the winning. The gold medal team ulan is fantastic. Every durant is incredible. He is without question the best basketball player on the planet. I don't care who's the face. The league the future of the league the most marketable all. He's kind of a jerk on twitter. I don't care nothing to do with it. We talked about playing on the basketball court was the best player on the planet close. It's not even close jaanus at an awesome year. He had an awesome finals. He's an incredible talent going to be a great base to the nba. Market bringing all types of different fans from kevin. Durant is the best hooper on the planet. Not even close again last core. Say what the rutgers say went dikembe in the olympics. Kevin kevin durant i would agree is the best score the best offensive player but does that translate defensively. Are you saying he's overall game. He is the best thing. We have a center on the team. Now we've got kevin durant. We'll have him protect our tallest guy. He's doesn't do that though but he can do everything. He's done it throughout his career. He's played defense. He's been he was a great shop locker for the warriors. And he's he's kevin durant. I'm not. I'm not any disagreement i k. D. is ridiculous. But i'm just sitting here trying to jazirah liability on defense. No like so. Many stars are definitely not. He knows everything out there. I think because when we talk basketball we only bring up the defensive side. We're trying to discredit someone right leg anytime you wanted someone. You'll go well but he does. He play defense. Like i do that with luke every now and then i admit i get caught up. I'll go yeah. He's great but he's not going to stop me from scoring ten. The fact is when. Someone's especially saw tony allen. We love basketball. We think putting the ball in the hoop and nobody does it better than kevin durant. So yeah okay. The team with my points wins. The game and kevin durant has offering the most points as entire career joy to watch him last night. We were clowning. Brockman on sosa bro. You couldn't stay off. I was laid sues down on the couch. The second half was about to start got like three minutes in. And i was like i probably shouldn't lay down and the next thing i know was two in the morning. I woke up so i did crazy. What the game is the first half. They're down fifteen points. Fifteen down fifteen. I for whatever reasons joined goals in threes. Yeah sweating out the bickram yoga. He does out in sugar house in salt lake. Joe running around like a crazy person. It's always my my tv. Viewing is always very weird. Because brockman does this. I've got you know because we work for direct. Tv were able to get multiple cable boxes. Got two tv's in the living room so on one side and watching a w dynamite with my boy malachi black making his first match. W against cody rhodes friend of the show. And then also watching. Usa olympic basketball. And it's just like. I don't know how i'm paying attention to boot lease but i was up for the musical theater and you fell asleep for the basketball. It was like nine. According to christopher issue something you have a lot of christopher in u Maybe i'm sure some of it. Or or maybe he has me in him Let me ask you this though. So adam and eve had two sons and they got married. So who do they marry like. Wait those people who the sons where. Where did the the people they married. Where did they come from. I have idea women that they don't know anything about any of this. I'm just curious. What does it say. Cain enable married with married to well obviously america's the the lineage continued right. That's even a worse answer than i had expected. I'm not that deeper thinker. I'm just. I just shrug along. I'm just looking to have a couple of ones when i get the fuck outta here. That's what i'm thinking about right now. You're not looking to solve adam and eve looking to split the atom you know and who adam and eve fucked me the cane and other. I don't really care who. Cain and abel fucked. I don't really could go. fuck me. themselves exactly Only weeks tony arrive there. Walk be go is devolved into this. Doing what is this slowly. It's all an illusion. You in may make ordinary shooting drafting when we were told about it in advance. We're pulled aside mayock. And i saying we're going to be in. Do you want to be in the movie draft. You just have to shoot it your scenes the day after the first night of draft and radio city musical sound like wait a minute so we shoot the first night on thursday night and then we come back early the next day after doing that whole night and we got all day saturday common. You shoot thursday night from thursday night for friday because they're gonna shoot you doing the real draft on thursday night and they're going to use that in the film they had me at. Hello may i was cool though to may auk though considered it then when he's told he's gotta wear the same clothes you've got to show up again. That's when they began to lose him a little bit on it but when they told him. The director was ivan. Reitman the director of stripes which i think is the last movie that may occ- quote from. He was in he was in. And then when we show up and we have a meeting with ivan reitman. I remember it was me and mayock standing in the radio. City music hall orchestra section. Right near why. we're the draft tables. Were it was like a one o'clock two o'clock in the afternoon we're ready. We're ready to go. We showed up ready to go and And we we want to get started because we need to get changed into our friday night suits right. We gotta go gotta go and we're it started late and ivan reitman meets with us to run through the script. Mayock is just doing his lines like he's on a draft. I was doing my lines. Like i was on a draft but i also had another scene with the owner of the cleveland. Browns played by the great franklin. Gela tony award winner oscar right. The guy's got everything. They grammy shy of the prime actor. Right yeah and. I'm like i wanted to him with franklin gela. I'm in. I'm ready to go. We're running through the script and before we start with the script. Mayock talks to writing about stripes. And i can't believe that here's a guy who's like brady. I gotta prepare gotta do this. I got my regular job tonight. And i'm waiting around and shoot a movie. That guy uses some of his real estate to talk. Stripes with ivan reitman tells ivan reitman. Mike mayock tells ivan reitman that the first half of stripes was great but when they left basic training and went overseas the movie went downhill. It wasn't as good second half not as good as not as good which isn't longtime well-known criticism of stripes. Yes and something that i've definitely heard before talked about. You know there was a budget and the budget kinda ran out and they've just had an rv and they made what they could out of it and it turned to mike. And i'm like you know. Mike not everything in life needs to be an evaluation. Opportunity had run. Just tell the guy who liked the movie. We were done with that now. It's time for me to shoot my scene with angelic franklin jello and i realized. Oh gosh i had the draft the night before you and i've got the draft friday night and the draft saturday and they gave me a script and i figured i'll just have the the line you know the script open in front of me like it's my notes and that's not a problem. Well franklin jealous shows up on the i'm there. He has no earthly idea. Who i am at all and says to me. Do wanna run through your lines. And i've i don't know them. I don't know my lines. But i don't know them at all and the book that i thought would be in front of me is not where it's supposed to be and now i need to run through. What do you say to franklin delano. Now we'll run lines now franken and do it frank. You're too busy too busy. There's a second and third round draft coming out you know. I mean the texans are soon to be on the clock. frank. And i don't have time for you at run frenzied looking for my lines. And he knows right away he could see a fraud. When he's sham sham when he knows this. Abbot i'm he did amadeus on broadway and somebody didn't know their lines. I'm not guy and he wore shades. He did in the film. And i asked ivan rodman because i didn't see it in the script. That was his choice. He thought owners who are billionaires who run a team. They were sheds endorse. Okay frank.

"In this film. So i thought it was a good prestige picture. It's not my favorite film of the of the cycle but it's good prestige movie convention franklin jolla to as a you it like if anything like the movie underplays out like how badly that was handed way. Really that was exaggerated. And that's actually a pretty tough thing to pull off but i thought i mean he's always good but i thought he was really important casting choices. Well thought was quite successful. Those really you know what he was he was awesome in. After i saw it. I went in research that judge. I have the same like. Oh my god who was actually worse than in the movie and reminds me of the posts that I think scott you put up a couple days ago about harry reid's experience and how casino actually like tones down because reality just impossible and this judges like that anyway. franklin jello. We were watching old star trek reruns the other day and we were watching a three part deep space nine thing where. He's the villain. He was awesome. So i'm always happy to see. Franklin agila i have a past. Your lovely imminent. I'm gonna gonna balance balancer the order that we agreed on a little bit here Because there's a film that's basically connected with this movie and that students in the black messiah right where they are at the same time and at times. They are covering the save events and i watched this one just fairly recently. I enjoyed a puree. So why don't we start with you. Allies yeah so i I felt like. I probably had like an out trae opinion on this one. I didn't think it was bad. But i remember feeling like did it kinda faded. Actually you know certain movies. Stick with you and you're like more week later in this one for me kinda did it. I think it's because the more. I looked back on the more. I felt like there. Got just too close to being a didactic in like a really Relentless conway missed it. It's a it's kind of constrained film. It felt like to me where like there's just no room for the characters to breeze kind of there's no like Flexibility and i thought about it i got i was like look. The jesus parable here is pretty clear. It's intentional so for people who are into it. I think it's really well. May and if you're on board with sort of the case it's making. I think you know you're going to like it a lot but for me. The thing i just remembered most is actually thought. Likud was the best part luke. Stanfield was the best part of the movie even though he doesn't get chew the scenery and and really just like run with it But so that was my ticket. It's not bad. But i. I ended up being a little disappointed. I probably liked it slightly more than chicago. Seven compared to expectations. you know. i'd like chicago seven more than i expected likes. Although you know. I guess i thought don't again. I did like the judas. Part of it actually worked very well. I thought that was the richest and most interesting part of the movie..

"Of New York City. Glenn Berman and Michael Riedel wants one WR Well nomination season. We have the Golden Globes out earlier this week, and then we have the SAG Awards Screen Actors Guild Awards. Gonna be kind of a strange season for the nomination because I don't know what the show's gonna look like. Certainly no red carpets or anything like that. Yes, there will be virtual, But sag nominations made a little more sense to letting me than the Golden Globes did, But here to sort it all out for us is Joe Newmark WR movie movie minute. Good Morning, Joe. How are you? Morning, guys? Yeah, it is going to be a weird your first ball. Of course. Everything is gonna be virtual. For the most part. We still don't know what the Oscar is gonna be like. But the Golden Globes gonna be doing it where Amy Poehler's in New York, I think and Tina Fey's in L. A. So they'll be sort of zooming back and forth. Or maybe cameras, you know, or cell phones that on the potential winners, and so if they win, it might be, you know, accepting live kind of thing. It's just a quick note. I think it's going to be interesting this year because it's gonna be almost a little bit like the year that the Oscars celebrated indie films. Remember that back in 1996 when it was movies like Shine and Fargo When things like that, that sort of got a lot of attention and Billy Crystal famously said, You know who are all you people because they weren't Hollywood royalty on. I think it's gonna be a little of that this year. Because all of these things you know we'll have streamed very few of them if any premiered in theaters on so right saying makes a lot more sense and Golden Globes, of course, But you know, that's like 95 foreign journalists voting for those things. Where is the Screen Actors Guild is from people in the industry. And so that makes a lot of sense. So let's just jump into that. You know, I think that the the the Sehgal Wars has got a good sense of what what people really saw and what they liked, And obviously there's a There's a sense of the Golden Globes kind of lost. You know, the nominee a lot of black lead films. In fact, none of them the five blood did not get nominated. Where is it did at the at the SAG Awards? And ah and Marines. Black bottom came out. Really, You know, strong on top. Chadwick Boseman got nominated for best actor posthumously. Obviously, he also has nominated best supporting role 45 blood, So it's It's gonna be an interesting sort of here. What did you guys think? Is you read those? Those SAG awards? What jumped out at you? Well, I think it was so different the job than the Golden Globes because the Golden Globes was lily white and of the five nominees for best film at the SAG Awards for them. Well, at least three of them were minority and the fourth one involves the Korean story. So it was. It was very diverse. That's right. That's right. In fact, four out of five the only one that's not in the trial the Chicago seven, which is a great film at night, and that's also another thing, which was kind of Netflix has gotten, you know a really big boost this year. This may be the year that they end up winning an Oscar after a couple of Europe strong years because all we're looking at the SAG awards and looking even at Golden Globes. You've got a lot there. But right for the five Bloods, Marini's black bottom all great choices. Minori is really strong through the people that movie that people may not know about minorities. They're really nice films A really strong Minori is about a Korean family that's living in Arkansas. They're immigrants to Arkansas and trying to fit into the community, and the father is played by a terrific actor named Steven Yeun that people may know from the walking dead. And the grandmother who's in there who I think is nominated, actually for AH, Sag Award for best Supporting actress is really fun. She's a She's sort of this live wire. She's really Sparky, this old woman who's kind of always giving, you know kind of inappropriate advice in some ways, and it's really kind of a fun a fun character. It zah fish out of water movie, which is really, you know, obviously, it's always a popular thing, but it's really interesting. It's interesting about how how different cultures kind of assimilated into really nice. A nice drama One night in Miami is also another one that people have been talking about it got nominated at at the SAG Awards is directed by the actress Regina King, who got a NASCAR for a fields. We could talk and not watchman and a few other things, and that's based on a place about a night in 1964 that Muhammed Ali, then cold caches. Play, of course, uh, Sam Cooke, Malcolm X. And, uh, and the football players seem to be actor Jim Brown get together in a in a hotel room with a sort of celebrate. Uh, cash is Clay's win over Sonny Liston, and it's a great drum. It's really terrific. Leslie Odom, who was in Hamilton, uh, got nominated for best supporting actor for ladies. He is It's really a terrific felon that's nominated for best best drama. A to the organ. I'm fumbling story at the SAG Awards. Yeah, these are all really terrific movie that people just seek out. You know, I was kind of sad that my friend Franklin Jello was overlooked at the Golden Globes. I thought he would have been perfect nominee for a supporting actor to move because he's so good and the evil judge in the trial, the Chicago seven Totally agree. And Eddie Redmayne would've been great in there, too. But I actually thought Franklin Jell O would have been really a terrific choice. Sasha Baron Cohen. What a year for him. Obviously, the you getting supporting actor nomination for trial in Chicago seven for playing Abbie Hoffman. But then Bora and had a really strong are really strong, showing its best picture, musical or comedy. It's in there. Maria Batalova, who's hilarious, and it is in there is best actress. You know, it's really an interesting year. Because a lot of these movies are the movies. You wouldn't expect it to get nominated things like Palm Springs, even which is terrific. The sound of metal actor named Riz Ahmed, who's terrific, and there is best actor in a drama You Place a heavy metal drummer who's going deaf, and that's a really, really strong movie because it really kind.

"All right, The Golden Globes have been the nominations are out this morning, and I've noticed Len quite a few. Shows associated with Broadway people and theater theater shows are nominated. They're like the prom, find find Broadway musical and made into a movie that's been nominated people like Leslie Odom Jr. Really terrific actor. He's been nominated whole bunch of theater people, So let's check in on the Golden Hamilton. You look down and come on. I mean, you know You don't need Hamilton does not need any more attention. All right? It doesn't need a golden globe. It doesn't either commentary from you. It doesn't eat anything. And if you say that word, Lin Manuel Miranda once more. I'm gonna shoot myself. Okay? You got nominated Lin Manuel Miranda Fire away. Right. All right. Let's check in with Johnny Alex since key, the entertainment reporter for the New York Post Now, Johnny, Come on. I know you liked Hamilton. And I know I'm the odd the cheese stands alone here, not liking Hamilton. But come on. It's enough already. Does Hamilton have to win every fricking thing in sight? Well, gosh, I can't believe that you're going to shoot yourself on the radio this morning because we're gonna talk a little more about limiting. Well, Miranda, Johnny, you know the man s so the thing is I did like Hamilton. You know, Michael would have liked it A little more had Elaine Stritch than in it. But is it a movie? It's not really a movie. They just shot the stage show. So how does that become a weapon thing about the thing about Elaine is she did look a little like George Washington. Johnny's. She could have been a dead but could she rap? You know, I won't put it faster. Uh, Captain, Really? It's archival footage shot five years ago of a show that one a slew of Tony's The Thing with the Hollywood Foreign Press that votes on the Golden Globes is unlike the Oscars, which has thousands of real film professionals, and they're voting blocs. The age of P. A is like 70 drunk European journalists who want a selfie with Nicole Kidman. Exactly exactly. But I just wanna be. Yeah. How did it come? Because this was always a joke. The Golden globes. I mean, they were just there were these. Some of these people didn't have any outlets, right? But they happen to, you know, get on the press list, and they go to see all the screenings for free. How did the Golden Globes gain this kind of currency that they have today? Oh, it's all the power in magic of television. They've started airing the show, I think in the mid eighties and so the only other game in town where the Oscars now Of course, we have the SAG Awards and the PJs and All these other things I have to watch. I find the words season somewhat excruciating, and this year's is going to last till April 25th when the Oscars are on, and I think like, Glenn said earlier in the show. Ah, lot of people probably haven't seen many of these movies. That's what I wanted to bring up Johnny because a lot of times the Golden Globes and and the other award shows are precursors to the to the granddaddy of them all the Oscars, but I'm looking at the five nominees here. For best motion picture drama. I have to tell you haven't heard of three of them. But maybe you have. But the five nominees with Golden Globes best motion picture drama Nomad Land. Promising young woman, the father. The trial, the Chicago Seven, for which Aaron Sorkin also got a directing nominees. Such a barren cone Gotta, you know, got an acting nominee for playing Abbie Hoffman and the fifth one is Manc, but I really don't know most of those movies. Most people won't do. The one advantage, I guess is that they're all streaming this year, so you don't have toe Russia. You know, Nebraska doesn't really have a lot of prestige Cinemas. So this year, we can watch them all. But Nomad Land is probably the favorite. Also with the Oscars, I'll tell you, it features a scene with Frances McDormand taking a dump in a van. And right now, it doesn't say Oscar I That doesn't win the Oscar. What will she do Have to say, though, if I'm not mistaken, Johnny, the father is based on a very fine play that Franklin Jello was brilliant and on Broadway a few years ago. It is. It's a French play with the same name, and this time it's a play all about a man with dementia, and we see it from his perspective. So when his daughter comes to visit the woman playing his daughter keeps changing, and we gradually realize Oh, this guy's mind is deteriorating. Now in the movie, he's played by Anthony Hopkins and Anthony Hopkins is very, very good. I do think it benefited from that theatricality of Broadway, though it's a bit of a low key movie. No one really thought it would be nominated. But it's the Hollywood foreign Press. They remember. They nominated the two Popes, which again was fine and started Anthony Hopkins. Right now. The other thing, too, though, was I was a little disappointed that my friend Franklin Jello was left out for best supporting actor because he was brilliant as the judge in the trial of the Chicago seven. He was very, very good here. Frank is very good being Just so overwhelmingly villainous, though you believe that he believes what he's saying. You've been bringing back Dracula, but that's the thing with that movie is that whole ensemble is uniformly excellent. And Just singling out Sasha Baron Cohen was probably the right choice. Remember the Oscars cheated him out of an award or even a nomination for Borat, Way back and was at 2008. So he's sort of having a bit of a resurgence now. Mm. Well, some of the things that are pretty good that got nominations. Ozark Truman. Tremendous series, the undoing and the coal Kidman Syriza, So I mean, it didn't make some pretty good choices. I just, You know, Obviously, those those aren't up for Oscar's the way best movie and actor and actresses are Right. I actually think the Hollywood Foreign press is pretty good about TV. They're usually very forward thinking they got behind streaming much sooner. I know Michael's probably upset that his friends show wasn't nominated. But what can you do? That was that, Uh, call my agent. Don't you love that? A lot of my own My show? Yeah. Oh, I love it. But how come they couldn't nominate that is it because it's French? And it's not. It's not American. Well, that's their weird thing about for the Foreign press association. Therefore, side they sideline all the foreign language films and TV shows. So like Minori is a very popular Korean film. It'll probably do much better at the Oscars. People are really irate that they put it into the foreign film category, just as they did with parasite last year. And once again they didn't nominate its star who is very, very good, probably cause they didn't bother to learn her name. Mm. Now are they gonna be able to be drunk at the ceremony this year? Because it's going to be as birth virtual right now. I'm gonna be bombed out of their minds in their living rooms or the little shacks they live in. We'll get this any polar and Tina fair gonna once again host from opposite coasts, and we're gonna have to be more grainy zoom screens and pretend to enjoy ourselves. I hope they'll be drunk in their apartment, but then I never liked When celebrities pretend to have fun. It's all an act. It's all an act. All right. It's true. Most of them are vegans. By the way, they don't drink too much anyway, so, but they pretend to be drunk because that's the thing that walking Phoenix rattling on about cows this time. Fresh straw that zah detriment. I think it's all right, Johnny Alex since Key New York Post Entertainment reporter eyes going to join us next week to Tonto, you know, do more on the entertainment from a lot of stuff going on. Even though we are still in her home. Still, sir, Quite sequestered. I should say in our homes, All right, thanks. Johnny will talk to next week. Take care. By the way, Michael the Golden Globes will air February the 28..

"On both sides. This'll was later called a police riot. But first a year later, leaders of that protest including Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden, Were put on trial for conspiracy and crossing state lines with intent to start a riot from the start. The judge Julius Hoffman, seemed determined to convict and control a trial that included Judy Collins and country Joe McDonald as witnesses and defendants who dress up in costumes and blow kisses to the jury. The story is dramatized in the new Netflix film, The Trial of the Chicago Seven Franklin Jealous stars as Judge Hoffman and joins us now. Franklin Jello. Welcome. Thank you. You were unique among cast members like Sasha Baron Cohen, who plays Hoffman. Because you were alive and 68. What do you remember about that time? Well, I just I remember I was 30 and I wasn't a very good citizen when I was a young Man. I was ambitious for my work and my life. I paid very little attention to politics of the day. So this movie is for you almost away to go back and learn more about a time that you lived through. But let's give listeners a sense. Of the character you play Judge Julius Hoffman in this scene. One of the defendants and this is Black Panther Bobby Seale, who saw a whole separate story line. He did not belong in this trial at all, but he makes a motion to represent himself. And this is supported by another defense attorney. Let's listen to how your character Judge Hoffman responds. Are you now speaking on behalf of Mr Suit? No, Your Honor. I'm speaking on behalf of the other defendant. You're standing right next to him. Why don't you just represent him? Because I'm not his lawyer. So if I understand Mr Seal this last month and a half, and I believe I have he is not represented by counsel overruled and being denied Westerfield cancer, too. She will be quiet for their you representing where you've been quiet. This was difficult to watch. Hoffman would eventually order Bobby Seale. The man tickled, gagged while sitting in the courtroom without representation as you're playing this man kind of reprehensible in that moment. What forces are you gathering to do that? Well, he's reprehensible throughout. He doesn't have a single redeeming quality is one of the government not very bright, and I felt with errands wonderful guidance. I felt free to make him as much of a monster as he reportedly wasps. Well, you mentioned Aaron Sorkin, who adapted this screenplay from all to life events and In case anyone thinking that you're a little over the top here Slate Road as unbelievable as it seems Judge Hoffman, who was born in 18 95. Really did act with the malice shown in the film, dismissing objections from the defense before they were made arbitrarily excluding evidence. Witnesses even sure is not the first who some considered negatively that you've played Richard Nixon. In Frost Nixon. You played the handler of the spies in the Americans. Where does this character fit and In your head. Is there ever like a roller Dex? Of you know, people you've inhabited? No, they come and they go. I don't no comparison at all to Nixon. If there's anyone I compare him to It's Skeletor or in masters of the universe, which I did for my son when he was four years old. It was enjoy to play a man who had no conscience and knew from the moment he walked in that he was going to convict them to people who say to you and maybe they do. Maybe they don't. But we've had a lot of people trying to compare what's happening recently with 1968 is there comparison? Well, well, of course there is. Look, government is always corrupt, Always all the way back to the teapot down all the way back in island country in another country's power corrupts It's a cliche, but it's true. My hope is that President Biden will start us on a Seigner pack, but it it doesn't mean all corruption is wiped out. It just It's not the way it works. That's Franklin Gela. He stars in the trial of the Chicago seven as Judge Julius Hoffman. The film is available on Netflix now. Franklin Gela. Thanks so much for speaking with us. My pleasure. Thank you, Robin. So it's.
