The origins of Fear in Film

"Aw will contribute to plea Shroud Darkness and Dr Ah Oh my God I saw fantasia the so yeah that saw that was the Selwyn and then moving forward the Catholics had all Saints Day uh-huh even Scary movies too scary to watch the skeleton as was also named all how how all hallows day and that was November the first oh all hallows eve was slowly tuned into Halloween okay me and today the average any ye us six billion dollars spent on Halloween h here in the US yeah it's the second most commercial holiday on single episode this month on Spooky subjects who ran longer recording in the man cave where according in I don't know why he bought US tickets for this so today we're just GonNa give it an origins of horror and horror in film so that's fun fun fun back to the celts they had the Selwyn it was They celebrated that in October I was a tradition from summer to winter on Southwind Dead Wilfredo roam the that's Halloween well I think most of us can agree that were growing up in Australia that we did have Halloween but we know about Halloween Chrome American movies that we saw all the time and am to say we're recording anyway today we're in the world's most haunted house Johnny Rico's House for starship troopers supported breath and they left at offerings to ward off the dead food and drinks they also dressed up as ghosts so the other guys I would like ghost as well eighteen hundreds Halloween in America it was adjusted until the nineteen hundreds of the nineteen fifties with the Irish and some of the English because the the Little Franks does thorough bureau the damned cold the damned yeah of course it would be sexual public holiday in America's I don't know I don't think so actually but it's just one night where everyone just funnier joy so we'll talk a bit about the origins of Halloween Halloween's kind of two or three different traditions When he goes dinosaurs issued token podcast for movies TV shows and pop culture and this week is spooky this monsters checks out the house the costume thing national holiday yeah someone like a national holiday so yeah elected chief we give them author everything he's like and then she comes back and that never happened that was underwriting a lot I had this we'd memory gap inau face where we thought that was a really hilarious line in that episode that turned out not to obey remember how they were about to push very what's your interpretation of horror it's spooky spooky an intense feeling of feel show schick on Disgust Nisa what you call it happened all right so we have horror in film okay what is horror by the way it goes here is really helped us shape our way to what we've got today Yeah so first horror movie pretty much the first horror movie was a French movie called Simpson's Simpson's really on Halloween specials as well yeah they even had the simpsons episode where they explained the first Halloween Caramel gods yes up for code I wrote discuss so it's that feeling of fear and you know how FIA has kind of made us don't tell Halsey because you're afraid of getting burned just as haunted house there was a skeleton and a bat I was floating toward that sounds terrified to me like people have watched it back didn't actually fell to their knees and prayed to be saved please the filmmakers from harmful off the cliff and then chief Wiggham was lack of push her off and he wakes before we washed despised him famous actress Mae clock cold him retarded she was she was the as we had the silent silent era ends and then the universal monsters begin so the universal monsters calls Kalle loubier taste so it's Halloween month halloway inside Halloween we're gonNA divert dominated that shit yeah but I'm pretty sure those big thing between universal in Hamma Hamma Ray made a lot of those kids maybe they couldn't afford it at the time the sorry this office butacular ask guys I I don't much like scary stuff avenue yes the infamous shadow coming up the stairs imagery tall off Frankenstein was it was interesting film I just remember watching that and probably one of the funniest scenes in that whole movie was when those the foreign holy water at this silent film so which was just Music Menor de do de Leon which is also known as the haunted castle who we watched that like a guy who was eleven a ah the Kins and about and it kind of brought into what it is now it's just tricks and then it became tricks and treats yeah it is a Boris Karloff also reprise was brought back for the mummy Boris Karloff light to just sit and stare and the original mommy was a was an interesting film to say the least but had nothing on Celinda stress we had everything that movie we had a giant ape climbing the empire state building getting shot by planes and waiting L. Junior for this judy is founder and he was the head of production at just twenty one many of his coworkers you'll make gear I still you'll sheet so we had one of the first universal was Dracula Nineteen thirty one the simpsons twitter of Mr Beds is shut us player of the year? Yeah Yeah that was a great dracula yeah so often thirty we're going to bring up a lot of them have actually become public domain now so you actually be able to Lee look up on the Internet and watch it as they just on Youtube yeah yeah so ast week's episodes yeah we missed nineteen thirty three's King Kong also you know we had stop motion we had Niger Film. Copyright lower still being perfected other countries could actually make their own films and everything rating system the wheel wild west the Frankenstein story it is all about him trying to get a bride isn't he had to find time to sit down and watch all these ones yeah but I'd just like to say before we continue on talking about it is to remind everyone a lot of these classic horror films the movie is Dr Frankenstein getting married and that's it the Frankenstein yeah just so you know so she obviously didn't lock him but he did a lot for the hero world like you brought he was buying up all the copyright Solos different books back then so universal you steal don't steal by bad and then build go see turned down the role of Frankenstein's for the movie Frankenstein so that was given a bar I saw yeah so we we moved into the film was picking up a bit and we've creatures people pretty much like you make me for family yeah hey stop like the one that kind of trick people thinking Frankenstein's monster it's Franken Frankenstein Yeah then you've got your well it's not forty five we had bride of Frankenstein who which may clock see I mentioned this to you actually it's Frankenstein's monster that's okay you know talking about Frankenstein Frankenstein makes it sound like she's so we kind of glaze over the forties because there wasn't too much like people are just doing some random stuff and then we will boys it's tough world wars yeah what about in previous episodes came to there was actually rules in place of what you could actually make back in films in the United States verses mobile saying the wild west parts of Europe and everyone else I Frankenstein the book was yeah that's the actual original story was made grow you made me so hideous in repulsive loves me I want love make me off yup detail really communists one of the first spooky ghosts spirits haunted house kind of thing so that stuff really hadn't made into messed with in that movie Yes so long the IT's fatal wall we wanted to watch a lot of horror movies prepare these buddies his are on no you can't do that against God it's good good movie yeah Talking Walking Slowly Getting Cook Kidnapping Women and men coming and bathe in the studio billy a little girl playing by river and she liked he's just talking to play just the one extra ones made most of the time they get the help the Kaiser boys from the real bridal for Frank Monster Yeah if it was to guess crazy okay got it everyone yeah actually in freshest mummy the remake and that was Indiana Jones same actually really good yes yes the inspiration domestic coming to fight for everything as we kind of with a really cool trailers okay Ono revel in fear of the body snatchers what are you going to do about it it's hard you have to do other illegal methods still movies so hammer hammer was that British one yup so how howdy copyright work back then I don't know because it could have another country is that was still like the style using makeup effects all that stuff so we've got crater from the black lagoon the infamous creature walking out of the like most of these movies revolve around crater classic title which has been made a few times it also has the haunting of Hill House on Netflix which is an interesting series and if you really watch enough of that series do whatever they want in America exactly what Nick said it's no supernatural stuff was allowed at the time and you would allowed to show he's super slow like this show coming up I don't know what the show was but there was a cover of the forest by the cure like Elsa that so often we started a little towns we also had aliens from outer space because of events like Roswell in for two which is very much like that it was just walking on the screen like staring at things and then the coffin oh Johnson basically look like Lucia wrestler and he couldn't speak very good English neither can I apparently she really did have a tiny waist there yeah she's in movies and they skyrocketed octane fourteen eighty and nineteen eighteen they've had like one hundred thirty in a negative light had all these other films and if you're going to teenage they had to be adults like well adults that's why they had the thirty in line from Addis phase so that's todd bill to go see the infamous three centimeter diamond a waste uh-huh so also one of the pinnacles of out of space films was by Director Ed Wood Hi my chiropractor so car apprecto walked around as the vampire character for the rest of the film with these Cape in front of his face if people don't know Ed was a every two seconds yeah and then we had everything it had zombies it had aliens it had really campy aliens have you gone he's filming he would do one shot and that was it every time I'll never do retakes because it's too expensive yup yup some some fantastic dialogue like he's some chick and I was like man this is a good song but this isn't a good song just come back to your all like that guy what happened the so that was fifty something yeah take inspiration from life so that's yeah and then like movies like they came from outer space the body snatchers mastic film. Well it's I think it's very very inspirational but at the same time they all very very low main- movies your Yeah Vertigo fucking being visionary fate of Ed Wood and different odd random shit happens in that movie that you just like what the fuck veteran inspirational pickup and then titled Coming Sued The Sun Comes up take on like an who found in men and girl wall revelries actual dialogue was probably the dumbest person India's just pointing his gun at ever what else did vertigo rear window psycho so also another funny story about the birds like the leader when he locked her in Israel birds so the look of fear real yeah she's just terrified of these these hundreds of birds in this rube say lots of hidden Gustaf's in like you just watch at the back of each grade and is just a ghost just the estimate that you could say so many hidden stuff amend you just get it and watch it get some friends around get some popcorn and get ready to loft because that is the room before the room was the room Yup yea Alfred you really knew how to get it out there yeah but Alfred Hitchcock success can come down to his wife as well Oh yes who when they come for you the soundtracks why did that because this is hell trailer is pretty much controlled behind the scenes especially when it came to psycho helping with the edits she edited pretty much you know let's kill the lead actress with the plan yet bringing using our electro race good to have it and then had like an all-star cost tawny surgery will I don I I actually look Lisa so plan on from out of spacey's just need it's just the that song slow it down put a famous singer there's so many trailers as dis potatoes that have just got so many covers of like random songs but like Haslemere hills woman skelly plug in house on Haunted Hill the classic Invest Yep no totally about soccer have you seen the Bites Motel yes yeah that's really good yeah than moving into nineteen sixties we have the hitchcock era I say it's one of my favorite areas of horror yeah Oh yeah it was holy shit man that is just if you guys have watch Bates Motel go watch it it's pretty fucking Darpa I've seen the first season stances do not talk about these movie and people didn't I didn't get back home and say all well actually Tequila is fuck off the they didn't have it set back the join these like for instance Bela Lugosi had a heart attack and died three days into production are cool rakoff inside again nope let's talk about our relationships with horror movies yeah okay how about you call luck I said I don't know did I say fan of horror movies like handsome men beating the shit out of the new plan out of malice if you have not seen plan nine from outer space this Halloween guess like she's just every situation that they go into it's just fucked up holy crap Baotou mothery Johnson time especially with lovecraft being probably the next rider that they should really focus on Steven Yeah Stephen King is being actress she was absolutely terrified of booths like in real life as is loud and Alfred Hitchcock was like no no more I love their fake birds yeah hello operator Mossy mafia-type about this movie came out just recently it grosses me out to the point where I can't watch then you're doing a good job yeah and it's there's nothing wrong with them quicker cool that yeah and then they had all those signs at the front of the cinemas and the lack ought plays absolutely under no second I watched them but they're not interested me the point where go out and actively watch them yeah there are some that I particularly like like Alien Ah Mother Mother Stop Mother Gut Tab but actually creepy continue audited the mood trails somewhere in town this is fucked up he's he's got an Internet Korean that pretty much a big no no in the Hollywood sale eh legend legendary director legendary Gut James direct hey madam sign Johnny debt basically this Ktar movies yes yup nick bit of a long history Horo because again my mom was a fan of hitchcock from layer in depth to fucking norman basis during how his mom had a quite an odd relationship he fucking weed yeah that's that's the best heart like odd will never complained about getting more media like as if they just give them the infamous Bela Lugosi Liz walking around just pacey himself lived like the the thing from the Black Lagoon Frankenstein and I used to watch them casually on Sundays will say when I became I think we'll win it became you know you can be mortal Kombat if you wanna be I'd rather see something that actually is tense and actually is minot uncomfortable unnerving and everything but doesn't require the uh-huh it's I'm interested in cosmic Caro Alumni lovecraft and stuff we'll get into that later one day I watched army of darkness before you guys say I'm your darkness is a horror movie to me I thought it was I saw the pressure and everything because that's a scary bit older and everything that's when I started to watch become fans of like Halloween and background became a big Fan of Friday the thirteenth anything else says and then it's like the craziness of their relationship but just really freight fear and I was like Oh this is to maternal for me yeah definitely not something that I can give credit to all all over the place lately there's multiple different TV shows movies and stuff pump in the map Stephen King lately and then supposedly it became so popular that WABC decided to take ownership of it and asked me the actress to sign it and stuff like that the ring movies again just yeah I watch them on about that vampire all no offer I couldn't find anything about shit is they just finish feverish finish it's yes not really fan but you can deal with it oh yeah like there are some harms alike but I don't actively go to yeah I mean it really depends if if I get one good thing in amongst ten shipping's adult wash things amazing cozma Corpus yes I definitely am because our person that's why haven't The character Urva too that she denied and up to eight months the after eight months of the show was on it both pretty much yeah that's why everyone was like who's this crazy yeah since Leifer massively popular Oh yeah yeah good and then after each hitchcock era we have carnival of souls Glorious and Beautiful Romance with our began and since then it's just horror is my thing so that's that's me on hey hey didn't fill out he just made more money is capitalism pig about this Ninety percent of all book sold a Stephen King Book exactly just to do that so like yeah when the torture Porn era started it was even yeah that's basically it's just that's just basically turned into the thing yet another one but that's because our whole 'cause car shit so nothing really to interests me will like Benjamin has to insist that there is absolutely no refunds from this movie because it was so terrifying that if you ran out doc in posted on Europe fifteen year old kid K and then I'll wash fucking loved it and that's when I fell in love with zombies that's what I fell in love with horror and that's when my secreted and then tried to bite off of like north by Bob Dole Honey Levi your money back Konovalov Sol's just one woman trying to dance in the carnival of souls and they want to on I think he is the first black protagonist understand that but in the southern racists kill him at the end the whole night of Horace Yeah I watched the second season I season McCullough again again for the excellence just delivered really George Ramirez knotted living dead block yet what am I black protagonists I think it is the first black protagonists awesome female characters that's not clubs in everyday life just a full so that's what I got to see the early hitchcock stop and everything and again a lot of family friends actually had a lot of the heart types and everything Ben was just sitting at the window off to survive and was like hey I'm just gonNA shoot this comes in the John rate is something I do seek and everything it's just I think just most mullen horror films have forgotten the horror element is become legislate go fast and it's just insult and they can't destroy she wouldn't sign it over to get the Dulbin hi she doesn't she doesn't want to admit that she did beetlejuice high and then as nick the goat came along yeah 'cause they will hide in the cellar would bother rock south ride and like you heard her screaming I thought that could have been anyone out there sitting the Dole whiting shoots edge just manhandled that what go handle it actually the rational one recesses of your side and Workum to dame fancies doc so hello and you're listening to dead it was about this rational was ed the guys hey oh you're going to get car no local back into the cellars I know just a little bit of that Peer so basically she used to go around the actress used to go around like dressed as this character character right the jump on US shape you bury you can play with far too much that's what happened she's still she's dressed like that public go out like yeah but if they hit the setup I would've survived yeah that's the other fifty the guys that have come along since the house like okay yeah I guess for me I used to be absolutely shit scared of horror up until I was about fourteen fifteen I wouldn't I wouldn't watch I refuse to be afraid of being afraid but if the shootings get money and then they make more shit things that's what I did when people like those at all it's like another wasn't on the fire fucking great movie Yes dead was amazing and and Jorge Romero Kinda got stooge this man over here he's like Oh you call yourself another zombies as sheriff what all yes I'll be what a potshot that was the Jamaican Guy Bobby landing this guy delays gate just such a good walking dead which is interesting enough because walking dead's for only the only Zombie series was ambi- media that acts okay I guess he was a military bed and in a world if you're military man and you don't have any orders you go crazy and make your own yeah oh it's basically it's might makes right yeah and that's what they were doing because they had those amazing caves scenes we need to get up in this Willie bird ear and get out of here underground. Yeah that's in the military base awesome antagonistic together I e Chow Ed movies while Jj Attendee on working on the fifth season have slow-motion sex scenes he actually had the dad from a modern family actually cheek on camera and actually had a mobile soundtrack Kamanga it kind of follows Georgia's vision on some movies Yep yeah where it's the plot about the people not designees as like the antagonised it's the people around you mm what's his name King Kupa yet the follow-up dawn of the dead not in seventy eight only that is non living dead spawned two amazing Sake actually it spawns frame izing sequels I'm not GonNa lie landed the did was amazing Yeah I'm in Baker Aka the list and and job that can do the rise dawn of the dead the remake you that was his actions I feel yeah that's right well Carol Carol fucking angels Yeah I'm so glad that the main character from the midst play Rick Grimes they wanted to of the dead yeah which is the remake of the one where they tracked in the mall that's dawn of the dead that's the first commercial film all the second who had also attracts donated anti the did y'all had amazing soundtracks dawn is one of the days the one I missed yeah yeah so it's so strangely went for movies like Shawshank redemption to the mist and then good am say because they keep them off Frank Darabont Frank Darabont also fog in Shawshank redemption and he did ah yeah they they have remade old first-rate they kind of released the rainmakers day the dead the dead bloodlines loss Chia I wasn't as good but they still had hello teamed up for a lot of money for wasn't making enough money the walking dead had quite a few of the actors for the beast trilogy and then that land of the dead good movie and then we had Dari of the dead I liked the did I didn't I didn't find it too bad all of the little like I need to watch it again yeah same and then now we don't have George Anymore George Defying let's look at dawn of the dead original like everyone was fine just mowing them down like anything and then all of a sudden the box came up and fucked everything up the dead we're sick and everything was good as well I love the really love David it had us six Amtrak Day of the dead he often missed like he is the only part of that movie I thought like on fucking point here like just the news that Tara I I love really yeah here's the most bland actor I've ever seen the main dude in the missed I haven't seen emanating Aso thank God he didn't deserve to be So that would fucking sock now in the villa stuff that is clearly been inspired by lovecraft those monsters were often by nature yeah I mean h thing was a it was a combination of different things here's something and then they park somewhere and the main character whisper something into his sons era as kind of it's revealed that the entire world is covered in the midst his son those two old people cheek then get at just to see the army rock Tuomo sized little to no sense on a good day is yeah but that scene was timeless year now how long he waited there before he decided that I'm like Whoa use blue dom versus the scientists found everything up you know people just combine us when they backed into a corner I don't know why attended down just think he was over it yeah too old the the mistake series was small happening yet they like off the trees making people kill themselves because of environment like that fucking gigantic Magana 's at the end of that fucking movie terrifies the shit out of me but at the same time it doesn't B.'s fucking doc was the movie at the like your brothers the strangest human then he comes up with some great wisdom does like me it's our did the good bad guy dawn of the dead that's probably my favorite the ending to that those supposed to be the end again in the novella the one that Stephen King Road it's like Dan listening to the radio and John and I agree could be nowadays you literally dern are how long they sent a couple before he workup worked up the nerve yeah yeah suck suck is to be these terrifying climb move beasts on such a hot man God you gotTa crying I'm Ocean on the gone on that like if you've ever watch true blood amazing saying that Clip Jin what's his name but he's in all the Star Wars Games and he's in days gone in the main character in days gone that you played yeah killer on it'd be terrifying see that's interesting because it's interesting they make movies like that when the true blood because it really shows a good representation of what the world would be like vampires have real people yeah yeah I WANNA video games a lot yeah so that's the Mr you did DRAC you'll that's one that is actually used to suck Sir and one cheek with the all the bees came in whatever she gets stabbed in the neck and just along in Frankenstein and gave it a bit of a sexy I don't know too much about how horrible the hammer ones that's the one with Chris Farley the dead movies as well and then that's when we got onto the the Hemel hero around the same time to the X. rated horror which kind of rehashed it's called Muslims yeah that TV series not not as much and show you terrifying things but at East Physical The rules of the pacing with the pacing was quite interesting because it was quite a slow film slowed it's just the visuals rocking soundtrack of tubular bells for the Gut. deb That's what the faulk bad walks down the stairs because it looks at and then it cuts the new sade it's like how did she explain that just ship they had blogs there in blood banks and everything they must be well that's what that's what the blood drive is these days blood goes off no because MRS and it'll say yeah and it just goes into so many different genres this one folks Micheal Field I took a lot of drugs tomato song at that demonic possession thing and also there was a spoof movie over called repossessed starring Leslie Nielsen Geico what what Yes is in the young places like coming to me instead and then he kills himself out the window and kills himself killing Damon wonderful to more and listening my balance okay lost time we left we would just moving into the seventy s so to Sydney Adema madhouse it was only one season alright madhouse only one season so those things anyway adopt then when it came to the the kind of the Kirsch Endo of the whole thing that's when like you had the internal struggles of the old priest and the young priest the old phrase has a heart attack and hey ray constantly rape possessed by the demon watching television it was actually the it happened so the good people because you're at the demon men so Reagan ends up playing with the way bullet and that's when pizzazz Mike Oldfield was doing some serious like troops shit fuck explain the soundtrack what you hear at the very start is the excess female and it's forty it's GonNa be there by people trying to await them and whatnot always kind of nailed a debate if it was a secret society of the secret mm-hmm yeah so yeah and then we all said the Stepford wives which in the vein of Westworld and that stuff custom-made women you've seen both of the the original right of science which signs it was a horrible movie it was a horrible fill like aliens come over way from another planet but they're allergic to water good and people like you so you can only make one season of stuff that's good yeah unfortunately thanks but the exit really gave his they can't planet that's like seventy percent water and rains all the time they he'll face I wanted to invade and Mel Gibson's like we as a love the full breadth best Willis Cody Horn and yeah Meryl Streep from does something she did something what's that movie called take control I Nikon Control Women Yeah robots and women things you just cannot control trying we've seen that always into bed alive westworld custom-made women did that one that's what I remember and as usual like westworld robots copy controlled remake seventy Nick Yeah I think the remake I'll probably get in the title wrong so forgive me if it wants to stupidity it Monday like that but it actually actually shot and everything like holes and everything and there never showed how she patches up something out and everything else like that but at the end they go to the funeral for the scientists that died and everything he lived to an old everything and the live sorry so it's really hard like comedy I yeah because I think the rainmaker align is not slaves drives a pair of escape toyed trap let them starve come out excellent whatever you can still see it's a good movie it's above the Steph was where basically they do what they can to remain alive forever and they had taming I just sent it back L. in Supernatural told us a you should with special cult by Samuel Colt or stab with enough to just as a supranational animation conflict with other scientists and everything about it because the does want to be able to have stuff like that and that's one of the imagery member at all because it's like I'm sorry I'm going back to the movie basically wanted just Bruce Willis is married to I think it's unloved vampires in the game I had a blood drive at the anime that's obviously for the not I told her to death or something yeah horror film God off to look this shit up with the news rocket to Rocky Balboa the young praised compass sane when they're having a dinner party then all of a sudden Reagan just spider just walking in and they triple instead they just completely collapsed podcast that's not Stafford while some big that is something the one will Bruce Orange comes really fat and whatnot but somehow she gets in these connection of like this we mystic Egyptian this connect competition each other they just WanNa role in each other's lives dom basically she steals husband and then Goldie Hawn Title IV married to Goldie Hawn yes but in this movie she's like her best friend story about a woman who has issues in high school but also is a telepathic soccer Beth Yep yep the classic pig blood sane who Alexa Yeah Super Hot for some reason nice yeah actually and the other person takes it and then they a fighting over him and basically it makes you a mortar like you'll be shot me dismember but still alive just gonNA stick yourself back together rape becomes like a super famous actor and they go potty and then mousetraps just like they've some reason hearn Goldie Hawn's characters they just have the stafford wives head on Nicole Kidman it puzzles most likely I still contact and actually had setup was actors like adult they're for Kerry in that actually had rigged up so the furniture would move and everything would scream like look like in the movie and then captured she's like nineteen and she looks hottest faulk Celtic still carry a very classic coming of age film like panel activity had a fucking phenomenal marketing campaign. I know we've already touched on these but it was the marketing camp is as we move the actually my watch list for Halloween Spook towbar so that's the personal yeah Brenda Brenda carried those movies every three is still by favorite scary because it has the splash of kids inside of a because you kind of at the start of the movie the old appraised is gone through aged ten and then again ah well that's one thing I've realized about horror films is lots of them have really good marketing campaigns Yes yes and the marketing campaign will make or break a hard early on death becomes her yes that one no I do yeah yeah so move the thinking about is that I don't understand like in that movie bad Ben Okay it's confusing was the kirsty a- and yet Goldie Hawn no it's actually it's actually based on a true story of when Goldie Hawn did jinking Elixir of everlasting youth I did wiles sleepy this Guy Levi's art house fucking on Saddam the door kind of cracking open that's like reveling the scene with the dog was time with that Ben that's because that's any bad then you're scared me Ooh that Ben was locked up in the basement right S. and then that was when he's like the Chinchilla screaming yeah has he pulled him down because he got all the way out of the basement and then he turned around the remake of that neither one Khloe amazing advertisement campaign ahead for the Midwest actually had people walk into a cafe day you know the pace soup for Allah's well interrupts the Potty and uh-huh we have the as well Damian six six six devil child yeah yeah that was a classic classic movie it was reactions people in cinema then like you watch the movie and then you realize you've been duped because why would these people screaming at the same time way swing away and Wiley dial is it and then at the end Bruce Willis is just like hanging off the edge of a cliff or something and they're like no you gotta drink the potion he he's just like knowing chops in the in the basement so I don't know maybe it goes of I guess we'll find out if we watch more of them those timeless classic Oh yeah I remember my mom told me was like in early Stri when she went down to the in my house try and ate them as well shocks people Bennett and then one of the first big creature movies in the water big-budget Joel a day try to remake that is full didn't go so well it was just cold Omon McCone Cockatiel in the troubled child doc ID abrasive Yep I was like that who who was buried outside that was with the baby was buried Ben here by Ben I guess Qatar Slash affil- Woo with orca killer whale instead it's free really super smart and like takes down people's houses copyright films that movie You could play that on public place yeah trouble no issues probably movie what's the of one another kind of fee a lotta great white sharks trial and for some reason when someone gets attacked I'll one response is let's kill a mole and eight leary scared the shit at everyone in williamstown where she was living in nursing that no one went into the water off and year I can imagine that because we do have ah I haven't showed you the state of bad bed yet I actually starts beating the shit out of a who was that that was the ghost of Ben did her that that was a weeping that was in the basement Ben Babbit kept in number he still is dead between Rela yeah no the Yeah Benfica everyone stuck in the paddle van is like to the front and they'd be like six other people but they've come up by a blanket and they never check and so everyone went to watch jaws go to their homes but yet jaws Thomas Classic Richard Dreyfuss folk in such a good movie many many scenes from the shitting the in her review and he's like holy crap we're going to find out it's good kill Orca really deal senator without the head Spin Powell lasted aw time okay problem child he was he was a child an able child yeah coke is trying to get remarried he's like we have to watch more onion this country a deep deep all that for it's just like we're watching and we manage the boy he wants to go so he's just going to punch him in the face at the whose reactions to it so they'd be like who really banking scandal action Kelly the Catholic what's happening that's just the ad for fun the Child Problem Child Apologize Oh yeah that's right probably top the white guy sleepy bed he just just all the imagery in the saints enjoys Oh yeah I have a photo of again abundance university is have the giant jaws hanging from the or actually get the photo in from the shark's mouth the little kids I really faces of Hamelin watching Classic Movie Monster I'm pretty sure it's free really trust void that's amazing really highlight they actually on seventy seven capitalize on the success says it's Joel's mates moby Dick Extreme the last time that law literally replace him with it actually even seal beach themselves and will not to them and then ate them. I don't know why this is so creepy Joel three that's jaws of Joe's I just like the actual movie where he starts begun that'd be good but I'm just saying kill great whites are smart it'd be cool to the animals it's cruel yeah if socks of the drizzle then Orcas are the veloce raptors yeah of how they worked together the revenge that's when Sheriff Brody's now wife who is newly widowed sheriff has died her son dies killer shrike watch dog and then not blow you it's Feis off with grenade the jaws movies really I'll select collars that up walker and we'll get that third quarter but the they make it out like that the killer whale was super smart and it's just hunting like this uh-huh chose to because it was the same same act the same characters and then all the kids the boats and they kind of have all the boats together and that's where the shock yeah they have I think if I remember correctly like some people like driving a burden baby killer whale and the mom the whole family so I- phenomenal is when the ship gets eaten half and that's what the sale it's like it's so well done like how he just struggles with the shock at first fucking then moving onto the world of slash shots really attracted to blood knowing they actually did a research just yet his they're also scary that shocks yeah hunting packs sharks do not babies to make just a bad bad movie yeah what you GonNa do about our Shaq Shaq like ice ice seem bunch gloss to Bob and the abstained that comes with this film the Texas chainsaw massacre yes definitely slash oh slash eats it was I didn't feel bad fucking movie deep blue sea the flu say was good bad movie movin up it's fucking funny and then off to that man I'm surprised we haven't done or you make actor putting trump and that's the first time he actually sold the shock already said that not so long ago that's bullshit that's ally lets us so you could cut your wrist as much as you want in the world now improvised as well yeah I can imagine yeah so what he's like Sh- it's also that amazing the water so she moves to the opposite coast but the shock followed her into shock a bond or you just starts beating you up and grabs the electric thing and Sheldon tells me I'll chose jaws did you want to shock nothing about Joel's the movie the first one the part where the guys feeding what's his name but I'm not sure I would consider that a slash ought suspenseful thriller yeah but so definitely no one is seen to do the reaction when he sees the shot for the first time as well guys like the big Y eyeballs pop out of his eyelids itself hitting the palying a Mauve from Malone love you could do it on no go get make that's always sounds like lot deeply Z. Gosh she screams to yeah and that's kind of what what's his face Rob Zombie is going forward it has thousand courses ice about lay the face himself another say cool to the Ray boot a prequel to the sequel of the Ray Booed me missile Mexican movie where at the end the guys like this leads as at the dance with a chainsaw something yeah the The remake came out people so freaked out they just like real footage of the Chase Obasanjo that's genucel seaworld sheriff brody son we'd say well John Kilowatt gets somehow giant who's very Texas chainsaw massacre risk Yup because you had all the different family members yeah kind of like that crazy uncle what's what's the Texas chain Oh yes oh the Texas chainsaw massacres sport so many different things influenced so many different movie ideas he gave us the Halloween even the mosque killer who was the inspiration behind Ed gaining yeah the the guy who famously enough used to give all the paper Eh Willie eight free so seventy five and this one everybody believed everything so what they since up today just like this must be factual it's chain story and Hamry movie did not age well look there's no say eh well it's spawn what Seko's to that original one array booed a prequel an race in one just called leather again freak people out I thought it was real before the one eighty venison You guys now have crew this madness from aiding people yes the Halloween is another heavy hitter on the the old suspenseful thriller slash saying and that's one of your first loves Haarer isn't it Oh yes the closest thing is still easy everyone always talks about that same when it comes onto this isn't it yeah chasing and her brother Psychopath all right don't be sorry yeah yes so we moving to the first slash saul film Saad let's take psycho Ed of the equation Web terrifying captured on everything phenomenally is huge Jamie Lee Curtis got the nickname scream queen yeah it is believed shadow oracle that she's escaped down the road and that's what he's just like he'd get away Halloween did you the Halloween mosque you that was a mold of William Shatner's face out action that he shares is natural reaction what it looked like be also he's like just lean back we're going to need a big bird was actually randy's straight smoked venison that he made it his own smoke house and when the police finally caught him they found human remains in his smoke house so there's quick orange I'd consider clockwork orange you're not a horror but it was kind of horrible scary but the it just get it off the air now turned into amazing Yeah Halloween and settling yeah the shining shinning the Shinhan net Irish I recently that is a good movie yeah Stephen King was like Nah I wasn't this mosque movie kills Jason Voice Friday and All these lists B.'s we've already talked about Friday quite intensively yeah but Friday Jason Focus of the errors made in everything I look at it full of the film when the Eric's maiden Oh yeah that's a very suspenseful film when it first came out that would screen uh and Halloween also spawned its own array of sequels died it was probably four in the original quote causal is a five Jason Jason finishing that off for Jason on-ice is very nice it's about time it's actually good it's good it was fun watching Kinski relies yeah scrape the shooting that ironically enough she starred in shock cold scream coins heartache show aw here's Johnny just the terror she looks live and like Stanley Kubrick had this really good way of filming movie accurate enough now here's my four hour movie that I made technology go I nine Stephen King doesn't understand movies no he understands books he's like he's like he liked his wide shots and the soundtrack was just so good movie is resonates so well in anyone cabin fever yeah and then we'll move into the KUBRICK era movies lack the shining and we've also got on the TV meal cost would do with that comes with amazing scene where the guys watching the broadcast he's calling up the TV station. I don't care do what you kinda fired the scariest treehouse of horrors was the one with nightmare on evergreen terrace yeah willie was Freddie Krueger Yeah in no way came into the pickup van she gets in the truck she's covered in blood and everything will happen on the go go go and she's actually like laughing uh-huh a realistic fake I can see the wires basically before fighting gay go ahead I just love it the Eddie's like well did well you never know for Willie might come back some way somehow I don't know I just gets off a bus is like hey it's me that I make now the fishermen who was like twenty two seeks me yet but the full this was back in the age where it was retentive Montas was the curse of Michael Wires Yeah and then it was the Fed won't discussing before which had nothing to do with Mike is the kids getting possessively aw you know when you get it you just kill people get crazy yeah and the sequel because as actually coming out next year Dr Sleep starring as the Sun Yeah Yeah so just stick to what you know definitely because not PA which is fine breaking that down like holy crap man that is more I just finished up watching the dream worries so I've got a couple more FRY nominee illustrates anelle yontef but the tree maris man mainly tree maurice the whole friend or foe thing I really enjoy those kinds of things like both in Stargate and the X. files is they've had kind of an episode like that like the theater just because it's yes yeah Shinhan don't you do you WanNa get sued I just want him all the chance it's phenomenal and then also let in Orca Really Awesome fucking movie pitch poster styles or something in front of you introduce different stuff Alfred Hitchcock presents they had a lot of different guy's name yeah that tales from the crypt it also spawned three sequels jaws to San Jos suddenly he goes on a trip and rives at that exact place Econo- starts riding in it starts coming true and all this other stuff but the thing it's that whole paranoia horror she is remembered the data house of the movie because it was so bizarre I think it was about an author who wrote about a bad area or anything that was famous for stupid smart the thing is we got the original with that was during John Carpenter's works it's Freaky as hell x files episode was basically the thing like he was we'd worm first before we talk about the is chasing after a song just a big ass butcher knife only trying to get fruit or stabbing the thing and she's doing everything she can to not get I just love that trilogy of trails of Horse we're really just died in hr bed of this around that year in the eighties as they had Friday the thirteenth had a horror anthology series as well as non marinole straight like Freddy Weed trilogy heels at a movie called in the math of madness which stod same neil watched that we wish it was fucking bizarre prices in it was original yes yeah yes I believe so yeah and then you had the remake with Paris Hilton yeah coming back yeah and then we get into the era video nasties around the he's that's when people direct to video directed video movies who want to eat more macabre and a lot more patches goddamn yeah so they they want to venture out sure the side of the plane and it's actually been torn apart and fun of Komoro Yup some nut I mean yeah there's crooked in price didn't venture price was one of the things we talked about just recently thinks affordable horror at its finest it's well that's causing Kara Paranoia thing and that's what the those movies based in because you like is are you friend or foe outside the box skies when like just before like near the end of the eighties that's when trauma films came around Yes yes so there's a part of that tape trading error is they should actually shut up shut up films is actually about to release a new anthology crave show series as well so we can have the classic crip capable you want to evil dead and it's just amazing so you'd be able to yes yes you are always do so yeah Lubok on nor I left my gun feet Alessio the box cutter I mean on the blade side as well yeah latest terrifying and I just think it's a really good it would have been the video stores so that was where you've got you really fucked up shit and those are the visionaries low this those are the people who yeah yeah okay yeah and that's what happened in time that's that's what they did with the simpsons episode on the not the norm that wanted to bail them more free so those movies and never got never got officially righted because I was circulated between friends and family and stuff and you could also independently really good setup if Alvarez kept on making these films because there was at the very end of the film you did have Ashton groovy and like the chicken she lost her hand at the end of it spas yet while it's lots of Haro I'd call it strange and bizarre I mean I'd call the new twilight zone it was Carl Hart Huma Yeah but yeah I just I think they did a lot of good stuff I mean you know the book looked more tariffs Eh really prevents the price had his own do you think that he was also a a circle of the dockside that's interesting how did your homes and one of my favorite films is they've live and we'll actually able to up the higher than they did yes D- but able to really my favorite one for several reasons Cassandra kicks US beezus funny because it's scary lying in the evil dead reboot so in that opinion it's like hey dude with glosses when a page is done right this don't fucking stupid but then they shafted all the rest of that to make ashes evil dead which I don't complain but they could have kept going with the hall yeah direction because Ashville Yeah so maybe it could have been an alternate reality or a time loop with is this there's always a cabin there's always evil and there's always in Ashburn character yeah bull thanks Jordan peele somebody up says a horrible guess would like the classic Shattner Gremlin on the wing or a it worked more on the possession Horo and had more scenes of pretty much look away like the way that cheeks there's a lot I think I'm an episode down the track we're actually going to do with areas. TV shows towards the end of October works yeah has been talks Ganji was classic video nasty income high all those films video nasties made made so much money remake I'd like to renew I'm not GonNa lie as it delivered it delivered in areas where the original didn't it was yeah now we can tell all the people how to make movies just go out and make it fair enough good good advice you then also in the eighties the and what's that other Zombie trilogy are you talking about Lucia full cheese Zombie trilogy detailing guy who really hey this is just going to be hilarious and we're going to give you eight hundred dollars to make this Boza movie those number and you've got let's let's say sorry that stuff's lovecraft inspired yeah well the necker on itself as a lovecraft Book Sumatra the Guy Yeah classic that's a goal fast sapone Sabrosa McCullough's probably he killed the end Oh an satellite fell to earth and that's causing radiation which raises the dead I was like cool they actually reference it but yeah that was an experiment everyone had like the enjoyment that movie like they're all like punks really curious syndrome and then all of a sudden I just love the same with his own these rise and because of the ashfalls falls down to the cemetery and then the like I'd wake up and then soon shattner he's has a great scene week has his eyes closed and he's he doesn't WanNa look outside and everytime I look at why don't you just like thanks and I love it when they robbed just like okay well here the Harwood hard comedy yeah I mean I e classics Carter Pity Jackson Rhonda's bad taste bad taste and braindead Brendan yeah the one where they got dinesh and rather it was also what was it it was called Brandon he'll was also called dead alive in the US I believe Donna why yes an iron and Elvis classic tale of men who was killed by vigilante justice but somehow gets the ultimate power to do anything he wants yeah focusing on any sharp object would do yeah you can probably hit him with a pillow and killed go back to the big ears ended the movie they burn the final Zombie and then ask goes to the next had grabbed somebody's the other way again episode is when he finally gets insane and these getting caught it away his character of any attack but every slasher up to this point is just being no character faceless yes and Freddie is that's a different slasher film altogether confident because he's definitely the most characterized slash oh yeah yeah along with his own business Martin talking about return of the return of Living Day yes we are as well something Kevin Kevin Bacon is because he tried to do that to someone else and then someone in Hollywood new who will even when they referenced Day reference I living dead in that one right yeah so they were talking about uh-huh ah yes straight ahead yeah and we'll talk about it too yeah and you like all the tagline for that will be it ends yeah it is violent so we got such movies as the experiment love camp that's what the fuck joining the main character into a paranoid freak yeah like Chevron Brody was just completely paranoid he's like we need to shut the beaches down yeah Nah don't be dumb that movie has the dead and he's like I'm GonNa make a sequel this the other ones is you know because you got the the Nautilus dead series I mean the one yeah and then murdered by vigilante justice so now he can do whatever the fuck you want randomly was in that way that's actually something we told him that as well Damons and then army of darkness will just really ranelagh off the Ceva lash relied seen them all I fucking drained Damon's one line is it's like hey dude you repair them all there so is unbounded could like make it through so we could into dreams walking tank that's just moving and he's overpowed that he will kill you with Freddie just like talk like that he makes jokes from talk from the bed the upside down blood bid sermon monies I that's when he turned up just while we're on that or remember how backward talking about the trailer it so yeah evil dead has always held a special place in my heart yeah okay so nine thousand eight nine street the first time you too afraid to go to sleep because he would get job tain hot in any legal live on ELM street there's some dead God seven movies C. Plus Plus Arabia that was really bad yup with Roszak playing Freddie yeah yeah that was that was a shocker yeah you can't dream they dream there's people that come up with the most crazy shouldn't be just bland areas of retirement again with those movie does may be specially on nightmare on elm straight they take the comedy parts yeah only struggling with that but he has a lot of character head he's quite funny he's he's he he likes to people like he was a fucking pedophile Genita- ah face issue with it off Roshan but the problem with thank you got killed in Canada it's like Freddie versus Jason Sorry not trying to like some legends no they do he has different characters or anything like that one where he plays the video games against people fight himself was just a jerk no that's what it is if you actually made a proper Friday the thirteenth film I love you guys just go to this giant club where all the chicks Viki awesome everything now no when the Texas you're so hot babe what excuse me get like also and now I can go back to dreaming about born who so we didn't have to worry about those chuck you chuck dolls when I was a kid in eighty nine appreciate yeah here's something original ideas stop fucking making three or four movies of the Paul's chose and that's all about the serial killer okay yeah so that's a pretty cool okay the living today the the reverse you appreciate a loft and more because you're terrified advocates what about child's play when I come out Montaigne Eighty eight in crewe getting haunted by Freddie and then I don't know what's happening I think there's another ray-ban supposed to be coming out soon but it really depends if they don't Harvey's become too serious there's two different reboots coming out there's one called Chucky yeah and that's about a smart Dole who is like Skynet okay there's one called is it not real okay and then you have a product Chucky Chucky see Zac same movie time it's fucking retarded yeah here's something fun to look when it comes to child play so people type in WCW child's play where they're doing a heavy shakings horror movie and whatnot film actually get breakdown Olek telling the rules of films and everything else like that yeah yeah yeah and that's when you have fucked up if you wanted to fall on Hora and scary that's fine but haven't been of joy because if you've been off in the middle of it all right yeah it's a smart Dole and the basically Oh has a technical problem now it's GonNa vote every walk but it's still chucky news it's a smart Dole the Yankees they were there in the third screen movie yeah unscreened shares the same universe as James Alibaba connected to dogma all the others Kevin Smith movies yeah that's actual actual like child's play with a dollar tax when you just punch it goes there is okay just nit pick a little bit but fucking Sydney's in the police station and the photos on the wall it's like says some spell spilled himself killer who to say take just like going wants to kill everyone his neck brace in an odd 'cause I was so confused of why disguise driving a taxi but yeah that was the one it was just going to soul my Dad Sydney we're actually walked possible and I had the Turkey there and everything satisfying hit that in the face of the hammer fell again he's like he's I guess you kill and the museum at toys still and you and then later on some foods getting into a taxi and for some reason the taxi drivers in nick price and he's got his arm in arm caused and that's the tax thirty nine came out in the states recently that's what I remember a guy called you'll maybe sucks watching easy explained it because he wants to see it 'cause that's so that that's the one about a smart so that was pretty cool I love scream I love the entire screams here is I think the worst grim series in that one is the second one yeah because it's really that killed the movie geek in the sequel three that was on the giants Alibaba Ono smooch e Bucci's as a kid it's called the

I jamie let's talk pop culture redundancies. I'm really excited about this. We we were talking about what to do this week. And i think we both knew we had done this before. Did you realize how far back it was that we had done the know how far back is it was up so one ninety nine. Oh wow a long time ago. I thought was like last fall. Maybe but it was not. It was much different than that's like almost four years ago the show notes Were not in a great position. They're not integrate state of affair. We've upper game. Every time i go back to our old show notes. Like where. I look at my notes. I was like man. You didn't even try have any nail. My shouldn't it's like today's show now. It's our eighteen or ten pages long ten pages. Her mind mine are minor Ten and a half pages. They're not they're not. But i have so much because i'm like well maybe i'll need this fact and i won't remember it and this is also you know early onset dementia. That's okay then. You've checked by two pages. Yeah and i would just be like talking about some self. Like mentioned mentioned tune squad or something you know it was like i don't know winded up the game a little bit so i feel like we've done that but We thought it'd be a good time to talk about this because You'd mentioned the the confluence of the suicide squads. And i'd watch a little bit. I one and i tried to watch the second one. And it's just it's not exciting. It's just like you're watching. You're like i don't know what i'm doing here. You know like why. I'm watching this. There's nothing interesting. There's no guardrails. Haven't marvel right which i took for granted and now i'm just watching like very gross. It's very there's a lot of viscera and stuff so that is a classic example of redundancy. So we're gonna. We're gonna talk about that today. I thought i. I think it makes sense to Outline define what is redundancy. And why do we have them. You know the the definition itself talks about like something that's needed. But i really liked the definition because it uses the word superfluous. I think that's the perfect word for. So i think even i do not know at superfly. That's me was okay you it does pretty much as a kid. I always pronounced it superfluous. Mit knocks still not the correct. Way to watch. How many times did your teacher say to you. Still not the not the correct. It's still good effort. Not the not the correct. Correct corrected sprite. Let that one go right well before before we get really into that I wanted to ask do you like do you think we're in a time because redundancy is part of art. I think it's part of pop culture and it's a lot of what we do. And what. We talk about our Rifts on previous ideas but do you think we're in a timer moment where we're experiencing more redundancies in terms of either individuals are just broad pieces of content. Or do you think we're in a moment where there's less redundant i think. We're at peak redundant. Okay and here's why. I think one of the reasons is nostalgia. It's just at its height. We just wanna. I just wanna see frazier again in seattle and so air go. We're getting frazier rebooted in seattle. But i also think that with the pandemic. It really changed how much money people had to spend. And it's expensive to make an original project but it's not as expensive to take a washed up star of a two thousand kids show and be like. Hey we can that. I currently girls not do anything. Let's see if we can just pay her a little bit of money because she just not not she says i have anything she can do drugs now and that'll be interested. I'll be very interesting. And so i think we're actually at peak redundancy. I think content. Yes you're right. I think individual wise. I think we're actually. There's less. And i think that is in part because of the of the niche affiliation of of content. I think it's all the streamers now it's not just three channels anymore right we've got a bunch of streamers we have a wide range of content and people we need to fill that content so now instead of like the fact that we had two nominees in lakey stanfield dana kolia. It's incredible that's amazing. That would have never happened before guys. You got to pick one. Can't be both the in this movie but we actually got that now. So i think there's not this arbitrary pressure to hit viewership numbers anymore. Allowed these streamers and a lot of just content general is about trying to establish footholds in worldviews that speak to a particular kind of audience in that respect. I felt like we're improving on your right. Because you think about studios are finally going. Oh my gosh. Kim stories be about other people than white men. Yeah oh my gosh. We should try that. And so what happens. Is you have a lot of redundancies. In like leonardo dicaprio and cushion bail. Like obviously. we don't need both of them. We we just need one of them right. But i like that because even the podcast. We are ourselves a redundancy in name because like the new york times their music. Podcasts is called podcasts. these are so top of the podcast. The podcast with dan pop. Okay the podcast with matthew j walsh. That made me nervous that he clarified his name. Lay podcast l. Podcast because other languages podcast on the rocks and then my favorite one is Patriotism orthodoxy and podcasting pop cow. Wow that is the mic sense and those are not even. Actually there trestle seo. I think my favorite is dan pop. Because i like a guy that the name doesn't sound real but like the commitment to the bid. Last name is not possibly pop no. There's no way now if you debate between lyric heparin christabel. Who you picking. Chris sale every time. Really don't get me wrong. I like leonardo dicaprio. I just don't need him. I have christian. Bale he does. Leo feels like was cars that opens the doors open up not like out. You know in christian. Bale feels like a very nice like a tricked out. Pacifica like a very specific. Got a nice car. it's a very nice minivan. Jamie how you put the emphasis on trick dow and i feel like that's the guy you four with when leo's here it's a big deal. There's all these twentysomethings around is just a whole thing but christian. Bale he just kinda does it. So yeah 'cause you're gonna car that like it says it can drive but also you feel like you can't take your hand feels because if you do you're gonna end up like suddenly holding a nineteen year old girl xactly tony garza and be around. Wanted out probably not. So in that vein. I i wanted to ask you like you know. There are still even though. I feel like individually. We are Were giving more people opportunities and we're not having as many as much overlap. We do still have her done season. In that vein. You know. we've always talked about all the famous chris's and we have an embarrassment of christmas right now. And really. it's crescendo. It into four main chris's right. We've back chris. Hemsworth chris pine chris evans chris pratt. And i wanted to ask if we had to thin of snap. I'm very proud of you of letting go of chris klein i just stopped. I do at a certain point. It's not my fault anymore. I don't need to hold that. H he has to pick it. It's really homes fall if it is katie holmes for so you guys need to deal with that and i'll be here waiting when you do but if we'd at the end of snap those forces who who realistically not just like you selfishly but if you be me salvage okay. You can do you selfish. But for the good of the world who they are different. I think selfishly. I'm gonna keep chris pine and chris evans. Yeah that's right right. No actually that's good the world too. I think you're gonna think you don't think you need well. You know unique. Chris judy one dramatic. Chris and chris pine. Yeah this chris pine and then you like a sexy kind of action. Chris but who could also make you may laugh or cry a little bit okay. My i'm glad that my desires aligned with the yeah with our powers combined there that's good But so so. Good unsease and by redundancies. And i feel like it's important. Italy here at the front as we get into the back of this conversation and i think a good redundancy exists because It's a situation where like there's just not enough supply to meet demand right. And that's i think. I think of clive owen and gerard butler right. These are guys who are very similar. But i think it it works out. Well because one guy wanted to be thoughtful and have like Artistic roles and one guy wants roles where he looks like the guy tries to get a mom and daughter and a threesome. You know and there is a need for that. There's a need only he can fill and he does that. So it allows for that kind of Feathering out of opportunity roles but a battered. Unsee as win. There's too much supply. Not enough demand. And i think of there's like a there's a dearth of like milquetoasts british gentlemen. You know most. Formerly i think of you mcgregor and james mcevoy right. Oh yes guys who you think are better than they are. They're actually not but they've they've occupied this middle class of genes mac of way. But you're you're walking right into it. You think he's really good right right. What's really good thing. He's been in first class x. Men so okay. Yeah i don't. Can you describe the movie. You've really quick this go back in time for some time. Travel's captain picard. Jennifer lawrence. Was there i don't know like non franchise stuff maybe it's split and lacking scotland. Which like at some point. You got some milk and that one you know man but same thing. We're for you mcgregor. Like they made their bones like they got their their fame from these big franchises but they haven't actually put in the work. And i think they occupy that middle space. Where they're not like the benedict cumberbatch. The tom hardy's but they're gobbling up. All those like be level roles you know. And i think that's an example of there's There's too much milk. Toast bridge gentleman enough demand. Hold it and i think will smith to this video this weekend. Where he talked about Why he didn't. He regretted not doing neo the matrix and says it was because the pitch from the which husky brothers was not very good and he was like but it was like they did not refer script. They didn't really explain it but he was like an i. I regret it. Because i ended up doing wa wa west. Yes not good and he said. But if i had said yes laurence fishburne would not have been cast as morpheus because at the time could only have one black lead. You couldn't have redundancy right. And i do think that's a positive in terms of its going from. Do we need rose byrne and emily blunt. Maybe need both jamie. We believe that but does aerobics and does really well. Actually did you watch physical and did actually really liked it did you. How how did you feel about the ending. Physical season am what. I would like to say on the record coach. Knox here guys. 'cause you green lit it before it finished. Yeah and i still greenlighted. I just have a tumultuous relationship with. Tv shows are really like who accidentally rely way. Too much on oral sex or masturbation. And i would just say of. I don't say that. I think you know on our website master batori revive like those i just. I don't want my my my season of tv to end on a masturbate off. I just don't want that in a mall. I don't want that ever so that would've if you do. Physical is the show. That's the show for you. You're gonna love it absolutely love it i. I'm glad you brought up. We'll smith because i think that's an example where sometimes it's like there's too much supply sometimes. There's too much to me and sometimes just two guys are on each other's corner two girls around the corner and someone's gotta win will smith and jamie foxx good example. I think tony shalhoub john zero. They're doing very similar thing. They're like older weirder guys who have quirks. Yeah yes that's right so jamie when you when you think about like good redundancies. What are the ones that you are avid. A couple pairs the first is emma stone jennifer lawrence. Here's thanks same age Wants from arizona wants from kentucky and what learned those are basically the same. Play pretty much on both natural blondes As teenagers they were both guest stars on the tv show medium with patricia arquette. Wow i know both had long term romantic relationships with guys. They met on huge marvel comic franchises. Okay okay both have won oscars they both won the second time they were nominated They were married almost the exact same age really. Yes so there's so much in common. But we're i actually think we need both emma elaine's comedy and does comedy really well even when she's in a dramatic role. La la land has a sense of humor right and then jennifer despite the fact that she's wildly funny in person she's actually much better at drama straight jobs. She worley in person. Or is that i love like if you. I'm sorry if you're not watched. The vogue series where she interviews. Emma thompson and emma thompson has anxiety and like doubt and she is just a minute and she just starts singing like she's being because she was like wet music influences you and jennifer lawrence like country and she starts singing that song. I'm rosemary's granddaughter. Just like a magical moment. That's a personal foul. You can't seem to someone when it's a one on one interview you know that. No she's the big show amitav any one on one situation number one. You can't masturbate off to end a tv show season. I just want her. I don't know if i've made that clear enough. But i just want to show that stat. I only trauma now by watching. Tv number two. You cannot sing to someone when there's no other person look to and they can only get you hand. Debt jason man. Did you know both of them. Were for super bad. The role jewels that makes sense amazon. Got it the right choice. Yes but i like that. You know 'cause they both. Listen between the mcveigh nominated for seven oscars like they're very competitive. I think but they've become really close friends in real life because they recognize like i don't jennifer lawrence can't be crew ella. No i had no but also amazon can't be that russian ballet girl you're right. I agree with you if you're if you're if you're going to see a movie red hawk what's it called. Red red dawn read read like a bird. I feel like did you get off the top of your head. Steroid testing right now. My other example know this yet. Would you rather living arizona kentucky if you had to. This is sophie store. And you can't be like kentucky because i'm closer to my parents like just in a vacuum right why this is tough arizona. Because i although it's so hot but kentucky batters he'll swampy because of the river all the rivers. I don't know that that's feels fake south. And so i don't wanna be all the way in the south or all the way in the desert. Okay and so i'm gonna choose her as you say kentucky feels fake south south. It's not it's like the hawaii river. No it's not. No i think kentucky is very southern southern kentucky kentucky like we're southern until we're annoyed by florida and then they're like. Oh no. we're not southern you guys we're in we're practically in the midwest. I think thinking of one neighborhood in louisville and like one neighborhood. I think that is true. Boga limit your words not mine. I don't know do you feel like you're a southerner i just don't feel like am bogle is a southerner. No no i just see. People were holland who lives in paducah. But it's called paducah. Yeah of course. I've been to paducah yanni to settle down. Okay my other example of kind of a good redundancy where we need them both but they're basically the same is billy irish and olivia rodrigue. Oh which is perfect for this week because right now on the billboard top two hundred the number one album is billy. I wish the number two album is olivia bedroom. And listen. i'm going to go on the record and you can like come at me all you want but i think both their debut albums are maybe the best albums ever made by teenagers. Wow in the history of ever ever teenagers okay. That's a good qualifier for second. I thought you're insane. Oh no but. I love both of those albums. Drip the listen. But here's here's how they're like. Yeah both of them. Were not alive during nine eleven. Okay how do you feel about that. These are multimillionaires who were not even living during the last like no other than the pandemic math thing that impacted all of america cracks. No look credit to you. Were making a point and asking how you feel about nine eleven because it does it puts you on your like not even alive scher tiny but they're from southern california both wrote their first song as tweens both of their vibes. A screw you both have been compared to adver levin by aging geriatric millennials and their debut. Like sometimes like they're both angsty right but sometimes you need your ankle to be ethereal and husky and sometimes you need your anxious to be screaming powerful like throwing a mike stand and i like that you can get depending on your mood like who you need to be angsty with. You've got both in either one. Yeah that's true. I think. I i thought they're not over there. Not redundant at all you know. It's it's a stretch. I think it's more. So than i. Than i thought i think especially in terms of the angst out like billy allergies new album. The song happier than ever if like a perfect like comparison to the song happier libya rodriguez and i and i think a liberal address feels like she Subverts your expectation with angst right. Billy irish hits you with it front and then subverts it with a less than eggs right. So it's still there still textual. And i think the thing about her is she is doing what feels very unique. Yeah somebody compared to lana del rey and she was like. Please don't compare me to her. She is perfect. Okay very nice. Who even listening to. i know. Somebody's listening right now. And it's gonna get very upset. But but i like that literature goes like i love taylor swift ampere more an no doubt and that i am and that is what influence and did you know billy. Bush was on bizarre artwork as well. What she really. She was not test. You see catch do you. Have any idea absorbs about disney. Show black if you're the guest okay. My assumption is you found an artwork and it has special needs has done story okay. Not learning or anything like that just like like well. You being problematic didn't you backpedaling. Ankle brace right now. This aardvark pee on the carpet like so. It's bizarre. yeah well. I mean it's not but yeah. This is the name of digital media house where kids are content creators. Hi pal it is one hundred percent. Hi pal pals and olivia rodrigue owner. Frankie franken page. They make you videos. That is brilliant. Because she is literally the soundtrack of diktat and logan. Paul is looking paul. Jake paul jake. Paul jake paul betting. Great yeah jake. Paul is also there so it's a weird snapshot of like what we're seeing. Now hey right now. Download the five-star rated game best means free today on the app store or google play. That's friends without the our best means and now back to the show Alright jamie I wanna talk briefly about historical redundancies. Right because it's not a new idea. There's no new ideas under the sun. But when i was looking at this i found this really interesting phenomenon That i wanted to run by you And it's called the twin films phenomenon. Okay and this is when two films with very similar. Titles stories are releasing close proximity by different production companies. So this is happening every single year. There's always examples of this most notably probably recently. What we're thinking about is The fire fest documentaries right but really the one that always comes to mind for me is olympus has fallen versus white house down right. They are literally the same ideas. And i think it's really interesting that if it's like olympus has fallen kinda cooked white house down even though wazzan jamie foxx janney. Tatum and limits is falling Says keller like doing like. Std's off you know by. It's the one that's gotten sequels. You know why is that. I don't know. I don't know but like this white supremacy. Oh you think that's a pretty white. He is as they like. Jamie fox is not and then it's like gerard. Aaron eckhart in that chimp. His morgan freeman the president in. The olympus has fallen movies. How in one of them he is. I don't know if that's true or not. He is the president at some point. You're right. He is friends with Drawer bowler. Because at first. I was like i don't know about that but then i thought no that makes sense totally makes sense. I can see them back. Like five o'clock on wednesday everything to do but this is the so people know if this is about there are there's like corporate espionage in different production companies on or if just a really good idea gets pissed around town and then someone buys it but then someone like i don't know but we can still make version of that so i want to tell you just in one thousand nine hundred six. We have four iterations of this twins. Twin films okay. You have a top gun right. That's the one we'll know for. There's also one about a fire pilot called iron eagle okay. There's hundred percent is there's back to the future about a guy who goes back to the past and goes to his parents high school. Peggy sue got married same version of that that's kathleen turner. She's in that one You have robocop which we know what that is The the twin to that is the vindicator. Okay which really made the name and the one. A lot of elder millennials will probably resonate with is a greg The great mouse detective in an american tail. Okay both have great. Mouse detect yet. They're the protagonist or mice and they are trying to find their way home and they don't know how to do it in the animation as a little suss so i thought this is a really like i think we we. We think everything's accelerating but this idea of redundancy in the in the arson and creativity it's always kind of been in tandem with weird that one of those twins does really well and one of them doesn't is the deciding factor is it cast is when it's released as the marketing budget like. It's so interesting that one will do well in one will not. And you know there's a corollary kind of phenomenon to go along with that called the mock buster and it's when a production company intentionally makes a movie that will look like a blockbuster and they'll try to like get the you know like how some google sites like you would google like blockbuster dot com you know and they be called blockbuster dot com and like it would do movies tube. I don't know if i want to read it but it does do what i'm looking for here. It's the same kind of deal there. I've been trying to draft off it. Okay let's talk about. Let's let's get down to brass acts here and talk about the There can only be one Versions of redundancies. Where they're so that we need to like rule on worship. Say okay. Let me present you. My first case. Mark wahlberg and matt damon car. Okay listen i know that this will make the deposited null and void because they're both in it and you can't. You'd have to get rid of one of them. I would argue you. Get rid of matt damon and with the pod. Right but he's he's such a weasel that it makes it he is that's true that's very fair. But they're the same age. They're fifty born in the suburbs of boston. They've both been with the romantic partners for more than fifteen years. They both have four children. Each okay They both also had controversy after controversy because of their brains and their mouth right. remember win. mark wahlberg told us that he because he was scheduled to be on a nine eleven plane and he canceled at the last minute and then later he said if i've been on the plane it wouldn't have going down while mark wahlberg not sensitive to all the people who died at all. Did you let me ask you a question. Jimmy did you wake up to thinking. I'm gonna work from nine. Eleven reference this episode timely. Okay and then the other thing is here's thing guess what. I don't wanna keep either one of them. I want to get rid of both. Wow let's split their roles between two other massachu- sense a'massage cite math vessels massillon. Yeah we're gonna split between two other mass holes. Steve corral is a little bit older. Chris evans a little bit younger backup. Edward norton jonkers inskeep. Wow i don't hate it. I don't hate it because i just don't think we need either of them Okay their feelings probably day. But we don't so. I the one that really is difficult to get away with his matt damon. Because you feel he's kinda got the thing of like no but we need matt damon you know because this is something about him on twitter because he was so problematic about guys who stopped using the f. word and by that. I mean that slur against gay people just this month. Aren't you proud of me. And he thought that was a big deal. Ray thought that was so impressive. And when i said we didn't need matt damon anymore. People rose up okay pie and we're like how dare you know how dare you. They're like why are you married. Agency the great wall to find out what happened in. You know what i mean. Yeah jonkers linski is a stretch like no. it's a strategy fourth play. Yeah be clear. But yeah i think maybe like we keep the departed and we just lose them from everything else. I think i'm going to do. Let me see here. i'm gonna do. I'm gonna jessica chastain. Amy adams isla fisher Brighthouse howard listen kudos to you for including allah fisher who normally gets left out of this list every actually act anymore every trains got bumper right. So she's the bumper but that's too many hot gingers. It's the same age and like just chatting and amiens probably a little more serious. I fisher is just the comedy browse howard's there too. You know shows all by styles. Howard is is terrific part yeah. She directed a i think she directed Helped write a good episode black mirror. Oh yes she started. It might sure helped direct to. I think but i just want to say like we can keep all four but they have to go. Buy a portmanteau okay and i have four. Three different pitches for you. Okay okay and that's how we talk because really what this is about is being economical with their time in her speech right and the fact that we talked about for them. It's just too much. So i'm going to say I'm gonna give you you hear these. Listen to these all right. Tell me which one you pick. Okay just let dallas adam's okay brassica fish dams or m yucca dowager etc etc so if we say etc sure no one of those ginger in it or doing it. We don't care which we don't care which one because it's a hot jim thome jessica. Yeah okay she'll do the drama sub but whatever but but we know that all right. We're covered. okay okay. my next one is cheeses and cheese. Nips look hear. Hear me out if you are. If you are prioritizing cheese nips the third thing i need to know about you as a person you putting all the bodies office every night and i know that you have your favorite pair of slippers and drive that pacifica that you talked about earlier. Okay i know i if you forget it. That's how they trick you because they're like. Oh it save money on the cheese. That slit also. Obviously we want to be in solidarity with labor protests. You can eat. You can't eat cheese now. Nabisco taking advantage of their labor boycotting all of us go products so But so therefore we get to eat cheeses anyway. But jesus are just superior you know many flavors of jesus are one right show up and said hey you spicier okay. Well i'm old. Cheddar cheeses need to chill out with the flavors. Like hey play. the hits. Do the big and small. Don't eat jesus chips. No i don't need the krispies or the like two sided or are you. Please don't give me a bag of mixed cheesy. I don't eat natural. She's nuts this cardboard e texture that you're picking We don't need that. I don't under an amata all of you. Who still make it a situation that i have to deal with when i'm going in my wallet cheeses. Yeah there's a little yellow box going. What about me. Me home yeah. It's it's almost like i think. I thought they were already gone. You know i thought it was like Coke pepsi it's like. Yeah but are they right now. That is right now stopping their car pulling over so that they can. Msnb like you have. You tried archer farms cheese it alternatives. No guess what i've done. I've not made my own detergent. And i'm not getting the equate version of cheeses. When she's it's cost two dollars and ten cents yet trinity. I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna do that with like i'll do offering sparkling water. I'm not going to do that with like. You're literally sitting with two bottles of period right now. How dare you suggest that you are today. Jamie fancy and guys only two of his five drink. I was celebrating. The nabisco unionized. Ever what were you saying. The union is testing all the bakeries across the people making the cheese dip. So we're sick of it yet. But they're also the it's also the people may oreos and like premium fourteen. Yeah like nabisco a lot of stuff. I was just thinking of craft. It's like it's they craft. Yeah just guys stop your stove top until the strike is i know so top. This right is our. What's the thing. I've just discovered i love. It's like Noodles cheese and beef Get hamburger helper is hamburger helper there. You've just discovered in the european twenty twenty one hamburger helper wells a couple of months ago. So she'll i'm gonna do. i'm gonna. This one hurts me but it's true and if anybody says anything about the pop gas were objective and we're journalists were were big j journalists. We're trying to do the good work here. So i'm going to say jeremy renner. I think he's redundant he. You could call him. Jeremy redundancy melon. Because i know look the fact that he is. He's been in three big boy franchises. And he's been slated to like carry the mantel an each situation. The people who run those ships are like. Yeah that was already a first but now we're just don't want to do that. But we met haley steinfeld and we think she should be better. I guess he was going to be the next jason born after matt damon He was gonna be the next. Ethan hunt after mission. Impossible or in mission tonker is and then he was going to be like you know hawkeye in avengers in in all situations are like you ever just gonna keep what we got. Or we're going to hire Healy seinfeld instead because he started that app where he's like. You wanted jeremy renner app. Look i get your money ren dog do your thing. I think you're i think you're good. But i think like he i think he is. He's in that middle tiers in that no-man's-land of like non british ish like white guy roles. Who are some combination like bad or hotshot you know. Yeah and. I've got to listen to of he's competing against. Tell me if you know the one that like aspirational. He should have been. Okay okay. he's got. Jon hamm armie hammer Jonkers and ski bradley. cooper mark. ruffalo walking phoenix. Jake john hall ryan gosling I'm already. I don't even remember the ipad. Yeah i don't even know if we didn't say oscar oscar is the one to me and a number one. That's just a lot of leading guy white guys you know. Yeah because bradley cooper's to pretty wranglings to pretty serious hammers to pretty not talented us. I might have made. Yes i think. Oscar isaac is the right call because oscar isaac. He's got jeremy renner could be the data dune. But he's not gonna be yeah. I think his work wind river or a rival. I think with amy adams. Yeah just and even the town. He's he's really good actor. But it's just. I think we were sold after Was it a her locker and He did a lot of critical a success. He's so good. I think we thought more of him but he's actually closer to the middle of the pack. Yeah he's a little redundant so we need to chill out. Okay my next one. And this is important and i want you to hear my case Okay so the redundancies. I fe- in pop culture and in my own life. Okay our hiking and brench. Oh wow here's the thing. There are three goals of either of these things. I is to spend time with friends. So either i can spend time with you three free feet in front of me facing the same direction and trying me trying to avoid tree roots or three feet in front of me. Cheers you with the mimosa. Sure i'm gonna choose that okay. How about we see an amazing view. You might make the argument like hiking. We can see amazing views. I'm sorry have you seen belgium waffles there. One god's best create view and then a date like some of your like a hiking date is like super sexy. Me sweaty and winded. Yeah it's not as sexy as me. Enjoying a well made amish by james beard finalist. That isn't aphrodisiac. Indeed look nothing sexy about swamp. But it's just because what is and i tell people so you're right I have so okay. I have this one thirty and it's grey's anatomy in the walking dead. I what they're both like super Vein about we're we've been on since like you know the fillmore administration. We're just always really says more about abc and anc than it says about the quality of their one hundred percent. But they're still on so we still gotta talk about them. I know the walking dead is like set to end the season i think. But they've got derivatives that show. It's gonna live forever. So i think we only need one long running tv show and i think we can merge them okay could be the walking dead anatomy okay. We can put together. We bring rich. Zombie pinot no no say with me. Brick grounds comes back. Because lastly saw him he got onto helicopter and then just like disappeared and died mike. I'm sure you're gonna come back in the season. But like he's gone there are hey worry he's like i got sick and i had to go like a camp hospital where i met meredith grey and now we're bff's like we're so tight and we love each other. And i think the interesting thing. There jamie is who is in bushes jeopardy morgan. Okay jeopardy morgan. Do keep him or do we keep having air bar we need. I don't think you can keep no we. We have to have both because one is like you need to go do the terrible tv stuff. And i will do james bond you most impressed by me comparing them to each other. Hillary burton who's like i'm married that this went and the other one's married penelope cruz. Yeah you're not. You're not but i think bring denny beat the bridge right okay. He became the governor or the governor becomes denny. Denny becomes megan okay. Governor governor super dead season two. I'm on ching after that. I'm so mad at you right now. Though he becomes megan and like he he saw is he tried to do. Cpr on a deer that pissed off killing the way dead. I think it makes sense only attracts. I think it's really good. You have one more. Let's talk about it. Who do we keep just bottom line. Yeah i thought about that. I'm watching nine perfect strangers which is not good. It's me it's signed given a number a number two six five and a half on scalpels. No one hundred. Oh you didn't give me the scale. I have to do one hundred scale always wondering how because you're because you're always going to say five or seven if i do want to ten if i wonder one hundred now is calm which we wanted one hundred forty two forty. I was like fifty. it's fine. I didn't waste my time but there's so many other things i could be watching but i also was like you know what i don't need nicole kidman and capable and trad like q tall willowy australian blondes in their teeth. I just don't mean both. And i think i'm gonna keep k blanchette. It's because nicole nicole. Kidman he check. Moment was her russian accent in the shop. I can't recommend it enough. That's a great call from you I'm gonna ma margaret and this weekend movie. It's going to be ryan reynolds free. I i think i went into this thinking. It was going to be talked about I think in last week some marino. How really wants support this. Because it's original idea and we want to support original movies and stuff like that. Not just you know redundant movies and rebooted movies in the movies and stuff like that. I thought this was going to be way way way. Way more overdosed ryan reynolds and it kind of isn't it uses him. It leverages his his his humor. But it really leans on jodi comber liaison. Joe carry a little bit really leans on tyco. It tiger td has a Riff kinda monologue in the story. That talks about Why they're not making original stuff anymore. And he compares. Why would i make. If i know you love kentucky fried chicken Why would make albuquerque boiled turkey. It doesn't make sense and like it's probably the sharpest thing i've heard like in a movie in years But it's just. It's a lot of fun. Ryan reynolds is great. It's really clever. There's a lot of cameos and easter eggs. It's just a real throwback to where you would just go see a movie and you turn your brain off and have a really good time at the theater for a little bit. So i liked. I love and i. The the the residue of free guy has been ryan reynolds onto tick-tock just lip synching mariah carey songs. Go for like hey. If you don't go see this movie. I'm gonna stop doing. Perrier guys sixteen thousand ratings. Four point eight stars hundred in thirty questions. Lots of questions about epa and a lot of answers telling him. Hey nobody cares about bph. Which i think people do it. That's fine but my favorite question was what can be added to the period. Make tastier for those. Who don't like it as it is. Okay this is actually a very practical question. And i was very curious. What people say betty. She wrote an eight hundred eighty. I know it's eight hundred words the copy and paste it in google. Docs let me give you the highlights. He starts off. So you're one of those people. Oh which is better than others you can treat perez is period is not supposed to be drunk has is kids in. Kids don't need alcohol to act like drunker. Maybe john de betty she. She pivots to when. I was a girl in paris my favorite who drinks for grenadine syrup. Then the bottle right about the answers. You got my taste. Buds do not register commercial. Grape juice is tasting anything. like sweet. Fresh grapes you're better off the snacking on fresh grapes.
