August 26th: CRP 4X4 VIP Guest Mike Morris W/ Auto Collision Specialists
"Well mike morris has back after filling in for me yesterday with his wife. Deb and i'll be honest. I thought they were going to have to be a marriage. Counseling taking place about halfway through there. You're throwing some shots over at her man. But i'm not married but that doesn't seem like a good idea. You back a guy into a corner to do. I'm under a mother gunned. And i'm out brained so all i can do is lash out. Yeah no that was lash out that checks out. Well thank you guys. So much for filling in i was down at the pepsi. Front range huddle With all the college coaches from colorado down there. And as i was heading down there listening. I thought that was a very good show. I don't think. I don't think society is better for it. Having a fill in. I we should have a little bit of the show still on today's so that means something. You know the interesting thing. Tanner is there is a time and a place to to be very serious. And then there's a time and place you know you just gotta laugh because right all the things going on today I will tell you in my fifty nine years. I i can't quite get my head around a lot of it right around a lot of it and you know i i hate to say this but you know one of the things that You know we talked a little bit. I local yeah well and that's going to be the key topic for today as we get into this. I don't know if you've got a chance to catch it this morning. But i had commissioner scott james commissioner perry buck in here for the commissioner roundtable I always used to think. And there's part of me that still thinks you know politics might be a fun to get into some day for you know for the right reasons and and you know listen to them. Talk off off. Air like man. There's there's a lot of. There's a lot of morons in this world. Which is something that i knew already but one of the things we talked about yesterday was scott which i think he's i think he's a good man Had a post on facebook about fuel prices right you know. That's a pretty darn complex issue and you know quite frankly. I i look at the comments on this facebook. And what i do know. Is that if people had to stare him in the face and say some of the things they say would they say no. I think not no no. I don't think they would. Well and scots are pretty big man to i mean he. That's yeah you probably think twice. Where did we get to the place that That this kind of if you get a chance to go to facebook page and right. And he didn't say anything that should rile anybody up scotch. Not that type. He believes he believes in. And it's okay. If you know what guess what why. What a great way to. And i see some of his other posts and again i i'm i didn't vote for him or anything like that just because of but not because i wouldn't read it just it sits where he's let's with that set though the You know why can't people just say what they mean right. And then we don't have to agree with everyone but you don't have to hate them for what they say either. And that's that's something that definitely has changed you ever consider a political career. I think your way too straightforward to be a politician And yeah i know. I yes i have thought it but the reality is you know. I did all that i made so many mistakes. I i you know. I did things that well kids do. God i you know somebody will dig into your back pass. And there's things in everybody's past you know and the the beauty of that now today my god you have to be squeaky clean and and i think that's a big mistake because if you've never made a mistake how do you learn the the school hard knocks is is the place where the education happens mandated in ainun. Somebody saying don't do this. Don't do this. You know people live. I've taken chances man. And i've done some really stupid stuff right and i've learned. Yeah sometimes it took a couple. There's a great There's a great country song by frankie ballard that says how am i supposed to get old and wise if i'm never young crazy. Yeah and and that's there's a lot of truth in that. But i will tell you mike Mayor mike morris has a nice ring to it. Sure i'll be milliken. So i'd have to start small mayor of milliken mike morris the alliteration going on. I'll be your campaign manager. Would you know. But i i'm going to go back to your first comment. I think that. I'm probably a little too straightforward. You know but i think that's there's a place for that and i think we should get back to that right You know it may not be. What's the old saying. If you always tell the truth you never have to remember what you said right and you know even in my business. I'm pretty you know if you listen to my ads on the on the radio. They're pretty straightforward. And you know a lot of people go. Oh my god. I can't believe to send that. Why sa- truth now. When did that become you know you have to risk you and you know i still these old these old sayings out because i think they're just as relevant today as they were fifty years ago. Right is that Just because you can doesn't mean you should And then you know if you try to please everyone. You're going to end up pissing. Everybody off and that's the truth. Yeah it some point time. Take a stand and then agree to disagree but you know this backstabbing and throwing everybody under the bus and you know somewhere in there you ever. He goes well. It's the truth. Will what really what what truth right well. And if you don't stand for something you'll fall. Let's see how many of these things we can get in on and on on it. You know the everybody i hear. I see it on on facebook again. We're gonna talk about local. We may get back into that but this is important as well is that everybody throws that word truth while the truth will the truth right well whose truth right whose truth because everybody understands a situation differently so i i get really annoyed when when i hear even when i use it the truth will. It's my truth right but truth lurks behind understanding. Does that make any cell that that makes a lot of sense and that's something. Think a lot of people understand. There's there's no black and white in this world there's not and just be civil right not asking you to be happy and you know and love everybody. No i'm just saying. Can we just be civil with one another. I look back like again. At scott james post ali posted it. Was he posted prices of fuel. Which is a big darn deal. It's a big issue. Big issue right now and and it's very complex. We don't have enough time to get into that but you know again. I look at that and i get pretty darn disgusted now. I don't get the response. There's no doubt mike. Let's get into that that shopping local Type of thing like we said. This is exactly where how this program started was Was with leading. local businesses. Talked about how they were operating. Drink code and things of that nature. So where where are you taking us today. Well the one thing that the world seems to be everybody. See if you've looked there's mergers and acquisitions and purchases and you know but when i drive down the streets greeley down eighth avenue down tenth street and i look and i take the time to look and i'm not just looking at the stoplight or the speed limit sign. We could question whether alvin right. How do you do that anyways. But if you look further and you look over in the streets there is a whole bunch of mom and pop shops and though that money that is spent in those local organizations stays in the community and it is very very important. you know. i'll i'm gonna throw a plug in for rick over at ace hardware over on eleventh. I go there. And i think it's maybe a little bit more expensive than going to home depot. But when i go there. Somebody's there to help. And if i have a problem. I can call the owner and he fixes it. And what's worth i think. A bunch dry like a bunch. Now i'm not here. I mean even in my particular situation you know I'm really. I think i'm the last guy standing of any on the last big guy independent shop. That actually has all of the equipment. The frame racks heated pay boost measuring systems the alignment machines. I have all of that. Now that doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of other small local body shops but they don't have the capabilities that we have but you see all these big box stores. When somebody comes to me the i'll give him my cell number if there's a problem right if there's if there's an issue they come right to me and they come right to me. They don't have to fill out paperwork and send it in to have you know corporate review it and then you know i was trying to get a battery replaced on an ego. Or one of those cordless weed eaters Oh my god i still. I still don't have it done right if that was if i sold that battery and the customer came back to my store and said this battery and i made that battery i would go. You're right this is bad battery. And i would hand them a battery and in corporate america and in these these big box stores. You don't get that in and on sand is the vast majority of people are employed by mom and pops man right and co vid and then now the supply chain is just is just falling apart quite frankly and i i guess support local is best. You can right and and what you brought up about. Kobe thinks a great point. And one of the biggest Issues that i had during all of this. I mean he said the health health aspects away and on the side for a second. Let's look at what this did door economy and what it did is it picked those big corporations as the winners of this and not everybody you think amazon was hurt by covert. Oh my god amazon. All triple absolute so that's that's a good reminder to that that When when this was picked and there was winners and losers who were picked throughout cova d- Those big corporations they they thrived and now these these mom and pops like like you. You've been saying they're battling just they're battling to stay. Stay afloat you know in some aspects and some are getting get getting back on there so You know you saw this big push shop local shop local shop local well then when things kind of got back to normally stopped seeing that and and it's maybe now more than ever more important to be doing then. We talk about relationships You know does that mean that You know i'll use home depot or lowe's you know Does that mean there's not some great people out there that work there. No absolutely not. There's some great people at those places but they ain't got the they ain't got the power to fix some of the big stuff where right and it doesn't mean every small low right but that's also where we get a lot of the the great You know the karen the that came about when they're asking to speak with a manager and they start berating. Somebody who has no control over the situation You know that's that's the type of stuff that i if you're shopping there. You're not going to get resolved by yelling at a manager and things of that nature but if you yell at a local manager here here's one of the things in and i'm gonna come seemed because it's i always come back to insurance and body shops right right. That's what i do and rexel passionate about. You know you can use that same analogy of buying local now. There is no such thing as a true local insurance company because they're all big behemoths right right but your agent. It's like j nine right. I mean you walk into here engineer. And they're right there. Everybody in there and you know scott bicknell and and demoss spas and i can go through a whole plethora of agents that i would consider people that. Hey that's buying local. 'cause that money because they get commissions off to selling those policies and servicing bright those policies they sponsor the local youth teams sponsor low. You know hell local radio. I mean all of it. They do for sure so. I liked that message today. Michael local local buddy. That i'm fired up about anything man i miss. I grew up in a small town. Where when you you went to get your lawnmower. Fixed you into coast-to-coast you went to get something for radio you into radio shack and there was the owner. Was there right. And i remember my father. We would stand around and talk for a little bit. And i just. I miss those days. Yeah no i. I agree on fired up about today. i like it. I like it Let's let snag break when we come back. The sign Yeah this is crazy headline. That did catch my. This'll be a fun one to talk about. Previewing The Detroit Music Awards With Howard Hertz
"We have the best musicians in the world. But I think we've had more major artists out of Detroit than any city in the world. From Detroit's university district. Welcome to your daily Detroit recorded on Thursday, April twenty fifth twenty nineteen. I'm Cheyenne a Sereni today is a conversation with Howard hurt. Previewing the Detroit music awards that are happening. This friday. The annual event has been a linchpin of the Detroit music scene for years hurts is not only the president of the foundation that puts on the event he's an entertainment lawyer with a roster of clients. That's a who's who of Detroit music. Here's that conversation with fen Gustafsen. Looking at the list of nominees for this year? It's really extensive. There are categories for everything from rap and jazz and blues to Americana. There's gospel even classical it's the twenty eighth year of the Detroit music awards. How's the event of all over time? Well, in terms of John rose, we've always tried to be inclusive. The history of Detroit music goes back probably a century. But you know, certainly decades in terms of popular music starting in the if these forties fifties. And there have been all different types of music that have emerged out of Detroit in older and joggers. So we really we're not just focused on a on rock and roll, for example, or I'm blues we really want to be all inclusive and the music awards or the one night of the year where you find all the John is present in the house talking to each other. You'll see, you know. Rappers talking to classical violinist. It's really a fun night. Yeah. About has it grown in size over that time. I would imagine has grown, but it's it's been fairly steady. I mean, we get typically about a thousand people from the joint music industry that come annually different people, of course, every year, but approximately a thousand at calm, and then the general public it goes up and down year to year in terms of how many people attend the thing refund is that most members of general public don't realize that they're invited to comes. Well, we really think that they'll have a great time. And it's like the Grammys where awards are given from the main stage, and then performances are in between the awards are given how are the nominees chosen, and how does the award process work took us through that looks basically a three step process again similar to the Grammys. The first step is anyone really can. Submit someone either as an artist as a songwriter recording. But it can be submitted in the first stage by anyone just to get a a list of what's been created in the past year, who's popular who's well known who's the best news edition, whatever it is in different. John rouse. And that's general public starting mill with the second phase. It's only people in the music industry in the in what we call the metro Detroit area, which goes from Toledo to Flint and from Ann Arbor to links, you know, Saint Clair shores area, so it's a pretty broad area. And in the the second phase people look at that dropped out list and say, okay, this is who I would nominate. And then you're limited in terms of the numbers, you can nominate. And then we added up, you know, all the numbers of people who've been nominated and the top six to eight depending on which category and up on. The final ballot and then the final ballot again is voted on only by people in the music industry. The the one big increase that we have had this year and a lot of it has to do with our social media boost we've really been hitting social media is we had more industry people vote this year. I think than any other year, you mentioned performances who can we look forward to at this year's event. See, for example, we have might skill from the romantics just put a group together might skill in friends, and he'll be performing. I don't know. If you're familiar with the IRS Dibo out of in Arbor, they're celebrating their celebrating fifty years of bluegrass and humor, and we're giving them an award. And they're also going to be performing tonight Johnson. Claire who I'm sure you know of John is getting a distinguished achievement award. And he's also going to be perform. Coming with the blue scholars so John take some of your listeners don't know John was the manager of the NC five back in the grand ballroom days. He was part of maybe originated. I'm not sure the white panther party. And he infamously was imprisoned for two joints of marijuana. And in order to raise money to get them released on Lennon and Yoko Ono among others agreed to perform at a benefit concert in Ann Arbor. Yeah. Sure. Famous event soon after which he was released so John is an icon, and is a wonderful part of our community. And we want to honor him Friday night. We're also and performances were having a tribute to Aretha Franklin and rather than her popular songs, we're having a gospel tribute, you know, she was very well known for being a gospel singer. And that's your history is, you know, her father famous. Feature Carl Phillips and friends or going to do a gospel tribute to Aretha and another tribute is this is the sixtieth anniversary being kicked off of Motown in. This instance, rather than having a Motown artists perform which we've had on many occasions. This year were letting the mosaic youth theatre of Detroit, which is high school students that are highly motivated performers have traveled and gone to the White House. I mean, they're very well known and a lot of what they do is time us, so they're going to do a tribute to Motown as one of the performances sounds great. And then last but not least on the performance side. We have Frankie Ballard who has been touring quite a bit with popsy eager opening for him, and who has quite a country following and he's going to be performing as well. So we we've got a great lineup. It's always a fun show. Howard, you work as an entertainment lawyer by day you've represented. Lots of big name clients like Jack white George Clinton insane clown posse which I love to pick your brain on that at a different time. But you know, you've been really active in the music industry over your career, given all the huge changes that have kinda roiled the industry in the way that the traditional business model has been totally upended does that change kind of like the meaning or importance at all of a show like the the DNA. Well, in a sense, it does I hadn't thought of it that way. But since Napster really when people believe that music, not only could be three or was three or should be free since that time while streaming is now actually starting to pick up the income level from recorded music from it's depths of about four or five years ago. It's turning out that live music live performance is really where the tests can make their money, and it takes work. Obviously you have to build up a fan base. You have to be able to go on tour. You have to be able to you know, prove yourself. Live performances are so important and by having the Detroit music awards that includes live performances that we get out. And we see each other performing when I say each other I won't be performing. But when we see the different artists performing it inspires. It helps the artists that are in the audience at are receiving awards recognize how important live performance is. And it helps expose Detroit musicians to the rest of the city and to the rest of the world. Are you know, our press releases really go out all over the world when we now winter's because there's always so many artists out of Detroit that are world renowned. We probably have the best. We have the best musicians in the world. But I think we've had. More major artists out of Detroit than any city in the world. How would you sort of size up Detroit's music scene today in twenty nineteen? I mean, it certainly not, you know, the Motown era or more recently, like the garage rock era of the of the two thousands where you had a lot of, you know, really high profile nationally known act, but I mean, what's what are what's big out there now in terms of John rose or individual acts, or do you think is there anything under the radar that people should pay attention to? Well, I mean, they're always just one of the one of the actor. We have performance she's a great performer singer songwriter named shortly and she'll be performing on Friday night. But there are a lot of underground type artists that are being supported by managers and agents and record labels to some extent. But you know, more and more people are willing to put themselves out there, even without a label, you know, create their own label, or, you know, put music. Out on their own. The, you know, the hard part is the promotion you have to someone's gotta pay for promotion because even if you have your music around the world on all of the streaming sites. If no one knows about it. You're not gonna get any income from it. So you have to have some promotion, but I think that right now, you know, don't forget, we, you know, we have hip hop where there's still a lot of great underground hip hop. That's bubbling Detroit we have obviously techno which started in Detroit and is still continuing. The techno festival is still one of the biggest live techno festivals in the world. People do come from around the world to see it. They're just in every John. There are people that are emerging. And you know, like, you say, it doesn't have real right now like, you know, the the white stripes, or or, you know, kid rock just emerging or having them just emerging. But you'll see next year. They'll be someone the year after you. It's going to continue because the talent is here. One of the things that most people don't even realize is a lot of our Detroit talent aren't necessarily, you know, in their own quote, unquote bans, but tour with some of the major acts in the world or the music directors for some of the major acts touring the world. So we're here's a of music city. We're here to stay. We're going to keep letting people know about it. All right. Well, Howard hurts is president of the Detroit music awards foundation. Jerry of course longtime Nugget denver nuggets broadcaster longtime colorado rockies broadcaster and really appreciate Jerry jumping on cody wilson. Denver inch weather joins us tomorrow And then brian gearing brady hall for the big takeaway of the week next Tomorrow morning all right. Let's let's get in here News for northern colorado long-time landowner key to city. See issue deal for hughes stadium land pat farrier and molly bohannon out of the colorado and now if you remember back in In the election that was held. The cd election held fort collins. The the land use for hughes stadium was a huge thing. The city of fort collins offered to buy the land from cs. You sees you said take one of these and and and don't worry about it. i mean they. They offered a well under the value of it. As you said no way. Jose we're not selling it And and the city kind of said. Okay that's fine. We don't need it will then. This ballot measure gets put on the people of fort collins said well we want it did it. Doesn't money's no object just name your price. Which is a bizarre thing to me that they would do that but they did. And now the city of fort collins has bought it it it doesn't make any sense. Karlstad university is hopeful that development in east fort collins land landed will purchase as part of a deal for selling the hugh stadium lane to the city of fort. Collins will be comparible to what had had planned for the hughes site. I didn't think this was going to happen. Figured was going to hang onto it and There wasn't gonna be any more talk of it but they got it done. On friday ceus you fort collins and cottonwood lands and farms owner of the straw lake property ziegler and horse tooth roads signed a memorandum of understanding with a number of agreements stipulations. That will result in the city. Buying the hughes land from ceus you. The sale complies with the wishes of fort collins voters who voted overwhelmingly in april the direct the city to buy the property and resulted as open. Space the deal is contingent on the cd approving cottonwoods zoning and development plans for the hundred and eighty five acres once that is in hand cottonwood carve out and sell twenty four acres to see you for affordable housing and see as you would sell hughes to the city for twelve point five million dollars so it's kind of a it's a little bit of a trade and a and a sale That that see us you and the city has negotiated. All approvals must be in place by december thirty. First twenty twenty two or any party can terminate the deal according to the memorandum of understanding here. Here's a little bit more of this. The city does not have a plan in place for an exact future use of the former hughes land so the initiative that was approved requires the city to buy the property for parks recreation open lands and natural areas as wells wildlife rescue and restoration. So that's obviously going to be the the key thing that they're focusing on their. Which again makes no sense to me. Ceus you had a deal in place that they were going to add more affordable housing there. It makes sense. Fort collins is growing. The university is going to continue to grow as well. Why wouldn't you want more housing. Csu and fort collins is but it up right next to a ton of open space. You got horse tooth right there. You've got great biking and hiking trails that you can go on. I did not understand why you would want to use the hughes land as more open space but nonetheless. That's what the fort collins. Voters went ahead and voted on and this is an again. Another instance where i think you you say. Hey let's leave this to the experts. Let's leave this to our elected representatives much like we talk about with the proposed ballot measure for the city of greeley. I'll with the water. That would be the focus of the city's efforts to use the property. City spokesperson amanda king said Ceus issue system spokesperson. Tian kennedy said that while the land was one hundred sixty five acres the twenty four acres you plans to buy is comparable to the portion of hughes that see as you has designated for similar use right so see as you wasn't gonna use the entire hundred sixty five acres they were gonna use about twenty four twenty five of it and put in an apartment complex will house. A childcare facility has it hughes and com comparable affordable housing apartments for rent. So maybe this is a deal that makes sense for everybody based on the voters decision to do it. Now see us Excuse me the city of fort collins is still going to have to pay see as you. Twelve point five million but at the end of the day. See you get some money. They get those twenty four acres needed to build that affordable housing that they were looking to do and the city of fort collins. Voters are happy. Is the city of fort. Collins elected officials happy. I would have to guess. Probably not because a mass transit station is planned for so for elsewhere on the cottonwood site and because they excellent local access to healthcare facilities. Cs you won't need to provide those facilities at this site So it's done now and that got a lot quicker than i thought it was going to. In fact i. I wasn't sure anything was going to get done. E because even though that initiative was passed it didn't require the city of fort collins to buy it it said they had to put in a fair market offer. Kudos to the city of fort collins officials who found a way to minimize the amount of money that they had to put into it. Twelve point five million they had to bring in a third party right the cotton woodlands and farms but they did a good job of mitigating that and and understanding. This is where we need to go to make make sense for For the most people other news for northern colorado. A story that. I wanted to get here And delaney out of the greeley tribune was following the story And she did a great job with it. Talking about the weld ari for school board meeting that happen on tuesday evening. This was This was much anticipated leading up throughout the course of the day leading up through The course of of most things. People were Anticipating that it was gonna be a pretty pretty stressful time at the school board meeting. There was extra law enforcement agents on on staff there. Is people there. So they were making the decision about mass and well ari four Has they've had a couple of times throughout this. Cove it Situation that they've come out and said you know the parents of said overwhelmingly that they don't want mask in their school. So this is what this was about about making those decisions They have They went up through twenty three speakers twenty three public speakers. Normally that's not the case. They set aside They set aside for about an hour of public comment. They moved to extend it and they did This the school auditorium was cra was packed. And then here's what happened right well before school board established in interim coverted protocol. And i thought this was interesting. We haven't seen this happened. And i'll let you decide whether you like it or not. Whether children were wearing masks when they return to school in weld county remains unknown hatrick. Too lengthy meetings. In as many days the weld ari for school board has delayed any decision on the issue. The greeley tribune reports the board adopted interim guidelines that would trigger universal mask mandate for two weeks if any schools covert nineteen positivity rate rises above three percent. So here's where they're looking at. They're going to monitor the positivity rate and if that positivity rate jumps up okay. Two weeks masks to try and bring it back down. But it's not a long term answer. I kinda do like this in a kind of. Don't okay. I'm kind of on the fence. And here's why because if you go. Two weeks and with the masks on positively drives then the argument is made. Just keep the masks on and you don't have to worry about it coming back up. Here's why i like it. It's short term. It's not long-term if if you have to install two weeks of it and then that positive rate we see a wave that drops down and it stays down. Then you're not required to wear masks. And it gives that flexibility to the children and into the teachers and the parents that at worse you know that two weeks could be the worst. It gets in elementary school. If a class has more than five positive cases they'll revert to remote learning for two weeks. The board is still awaiting guidance from world. County health But this was highly anticipated and it seems as though it went smoothly with civil which is exactly what i was hoping to see and so kudos to the the parents and administrators at weld r. e. for school district for running this and and getting this Decided be part of the conversation today. Cape bridgewater has been announced as the starting quarterback now. No he wasn't my first choice. And we've made that very clear that i was all in the aaron rodgers camp then. When that didn't work. I jumped on the teddy bridgewater bandwagon and trust me. There wasn't a whole lot of people on there. But i was there and yesterday vic fangio making the announcement that Teddy bridgewater will be the starting quarterback for the denver broncos and it comes at a good time. I think i think he drug it out a little long But honestly these guys were close. These guys were closed. And there's going to be drew lock fans that that are mad about this. There's there's bronco fans that are mad about it. But i will tell you what i am not one to you know. I'm always good to watch drama unfold. I like to sit back peacefully and and watch it unfold. I like to see arguments. I like to watch the arguments But i was getting worn out about the on twitter about teddy bridgewater versus drew. Lock it was getting to the point. It was so bad and it was so aggressive towards each other. I was like okay vic for the sake of colorado as a whole you have to make a decision and he decided to go with steady. Teddy the The this by jeff leg without spn. The number eighteen loomed large over the quarterback decision. The denver broncos coach vic fangio face throughout the season or throughout the off season all the way to selection on the fourth wednesday in august. Teddy bridgewater over drew lock number eighteen peyton manning whose historical four year run of of fifty. Bronco wins four. Afc west titles to super bowl appearances of a super bowl. Fifty victory ended after the twenty fifth season number. Eighteen as in the starts drew lock has already had during his still young career. But also the number of interceptions he has thrown during those games number eighteen as in the days to an exceedingly important season opener for fangio in the broncos. The broncos have been little more than an over zealous. Turn still at quarterback since the departure of manning ten different players including running. Back philip lindsey have opened a game high. Now that doesn't count. That was co vid have opened a game behind centers. Since manning strolled into the hall of fame sunset by overtaking. Lock in a close battle. Bridgewater will be will. Now be number. Eleven Legua does same. Bridgewater earned the job to be sure he was steady maintain the offenses tempo throughout practices and into the preseason games. And this is my thing with teddy bridgewater. Does he have all the attributes that drew lock has no. I don't think so drew's got big arm. He he's athletic. he's a little bit more. Maybe athletic even But there's more to being quarter of being a quarterback then just your physical attributes. It's how you carry yourself. It's how you lead the team. It's all of those things and drew lock. Didn't have those what we call intangibles. You didn't he didn't have that confidence that swagger or maybe in some cases he had too much swagger and had an earned it. Teddy bridgewater is the season professional. I think he's got the respect of the team and vic fangio saying what's best for our football team at this moment is teddy bridgewater and i tend to agree with him. I think that this was the right decision now. Can denver broncos company. Country can broncos country. Come together and say we're united again. Let's make the broncos great again. I think they can. I think that's what should happen here. But we'll see teddy bridgewater in the broncos. They have to start out three. You know they have to. I know that's a lofty thing. But when you got the giants the jets and the jaguars you gotta start out three now. All three of them. The jaguars are going to be rolling. Trevor lawrence they have not looked good in the preseason. I coach urban meyer the new york giants. Well they've got daniel jones who still a question mark day or they're not a good football team and we know what the disaster is with the jets after they moved on from sam darnold. They've got zack. Wilson who showing some promise but went out at two out of the three games. You're playing rookie. Quarterback's definitely have to win those two. And i think the defense is good enough to do that and in the third the opener which is the third game. I'm talking about. It's a second year guy in daniel jones. So kudos to the broncos. I in my opinion for making the right decision. Here's one story that i did want to get to and i had to get to it. Weld deputies arrest wanted man after lost iphone tracked to boulder k. Rainy let's can we do the crazy trade on this. Can you get that pulled up for me here because this is a bizarre one. This press release came out yesterday By the oh by the weld county sheriff's department and it is by far one of the dumbest ways. A criminal has ever been has ever been apprehended. And do you ever sit there and take you know. I would probably be a decent criminal. Because i'm smarter than these people are. There's not a lot of people that i think i'm smarter than but some of these people like and your dumb you've done. Let's get on a crazy train. Morgan mackenzie out of the greeley tribune. A denver man faces multiple felonies charges. After a well deputy used the tracking up to find his last cell phone. Why didn't they just use the chip in the in the vaccine. That's a joke okay. It's a joel hoke. If you think you're not being tracked then you're really wrong as long as you got a phone on you. It found the phone in the bed of a suspects truck on monday. He told deputies he was his little brother. Anthony but a deputy used his cell phone to confirm the suspect's identity through a mugshot and list of his known tattoos. The deputy placed his cell phone in the truck bed as they attempted to talk to santa all out of the vehicle so he plays it in their santa quickly shifted his vehicle into drive and fled the scene with the deputies phone. Still in the bed of the pickup crashing through the security gate. Along the way so the deputy gets back to the precinct and says hey. Let's just use the fine my find my app to locate a missing phone. The time state of all had no idea the app showed the phone was on e. Four seventy two away heading west towards boulder though occasion stopped moving about two forty seven. Am in the forty. Eight hundred block of gerard in. Boulder upon arrival responding deputies identified sandoval. It took him into custody. That's something you see on law and order right pulling a slick when i am in a set to senior now what i want to know and you know we may need. We mean may need to get this. Deputy on 'cause i wanna know if he purposely did it or if he just said this here for a second and then the driver took off fell into the into the the pickup it. That's what i want to know but man talk about a crazy way of finding that guy crazy scale. I think that thing that this Obviously has going forward is the The way that he was tracked down using the fine. My iphone feature I think that could gift for him. How long do you think it took them to remembers password for that. He's got to enter your password on. You're getting on that But i'm going to go. I'm going to go with a solid six point. Three on this on the crazy On the crazy scale on this He had a lot of warrants out for his rest and not a good dude but I am going six point when i say six point. Three six thousand three ryan. What are you giving this. I'll give this golo higher. Go seven it was. It's a crazy way of getting arrested for sure Hey if you're maybe looking to get a little crazy this week in or just relax in all honesty. Go to the shine shop in greeley They've got some of the best craft spirits look. It hasn't been too stressful week. You know. I have had period regardless of where they're from. It's the shine shop greeley. Let them know you heard about them on. Kfi k. a ten thousand five time when we come back mike boris. Join me but first. Let's get to the bottom. The our news and weather center. Join clark johnson and bruce dick for coach weekdays at eleven. Another in colorado's voice one zero three point one and thirteen ten kfi. Mike morris is back after filling in for me yesterday with his wife. Deb and i'll be honest. I thought there was going to have to be a marriage. Counseling taking place about halfway through there. You're throwing some shots over at her man. I'm not married but that doesn't seem idea you back a guy into a corner. I'm under a mother gunned. And i'm out brained so all i can do as lash out that you know that checks out. Well thank you guys. So much for filling in i was down at the pepsi. Front range huddle With all the college coaches From colorado down there. And as i was heading down there listening A i i thought that was a good show. I don't think. I don't think society is better for it having fill in however you have the phone the show still on today so that means something. You know the the interesting thing. Tanner is You know there is a time and a place to to be very serious and then there's a time and a place you know you just gotta laugh because right all the things going on today I will tell you in my fifty nine years i I can't quite get my head around a lot of it right around a lot of it. Then you know. I hate to say this but you know one of the things that we talked a little bit local. Yeah well and that's going to be the key topic for today as we get into this. I don't know if you've got a chance to catch it this morning. But i had commissioner scott james commissioner perry buck in here for the commissioner roundtable I always used to think there's part of me that still thinks you know politics might be a fun to get into some day for you. Know for the right reasons and and listen to them. Talk off off. Air psych man. There's there's a lot there's a lot of morons in this world. Which is something that i knew already but one of the things we talked about yesterday was Scott which i think. He's i think he's a good man. had a post on facebook about fuel prices right. You know that's a pretty darn complex issue and you know quite frankly. I look at the comments on this facebook. And what i do know. Is that if people had to stare him in the face and say some of the things they say would they say it. No i think not no. No i don't think they would was. And scots are pretty. Big man to i he i mean. That's yeah you probably think twice. Where did we get to the place that That this kind of if you get a chance go to his go to his facebook page right and you know. He didn't say anything. That should rile anybody up. Scotch not that type. He believes twenty believes in. And it's okay. If you don't guess what why. What a great way to try. And i see some of his other posts and again. I'm i didn't vote for him or anything like that. Just because of. But not. Because i wouldn't read it just. It worries anna that set though the You know why can't people just say what they mean. And then we don't have to agree with everyone but you don't have to hate them for what they say either. And that's that's something that definitely has changed you ever consider a political career and your way too straightforward to be a politician. And yeah i know. I yes i have thought about it but the reality is you know. I did all that i made so many mistakes. I i you know. I did things that kids do. God i you know somebody would dig into your battle pass. There's things in everybody's past you know the the beauty of that now today. My god you have to be squeaky clean and And i think that's a big mistake because if you've never made a mistake how do you learn the hard knocks is is the place where the education happens mad at in an. Somebody's saying don't do this. Don't do this. You know people. That have t- i've taken chances man and i've done some really stupid stuff right and i've learned. Yeah sometimes it took a couple. There's a great There's a great country song by frankie ballard that says how am i supposed to old wise if i'm never young crazy and that's There's a lot of truth in that. But i will tell you mike Mayor mike morris has a nice serene to it. Sure milliken so. I'd have to start small mayor of mike morris liberation going on. I'll be your campaign manager would But i i'm going to go back to your first comment. I think that. I'm probably a little too straightforward you but i think that's there's a place for that and i think we should get back to that You know it may not be. What's the old saying. If you always tell the truth you never after. Remember what you said right and you know even in my business. I'm pretty you know if you listen to my ads on the on the radio. They're pretty straightforward. And you know a lot of people go. Oh my god. I can't believe he said that. Like why su truth yeah. When did that become you know you have to risk you. Well you know. I still these old these old sayings because i think they're just as relevant today as they were fifty years ago right. Is that just because you can doesn't mean you should Then you know if you try to please everyone. You're going to end up pissing. Everybody off and that's the truth. Yeah at some point time. Take a stand and then agree to disagree but you know this backstabbing and throwing everybody under the bus and somewhere in there he goes well. It's the truth. what really what. What truth right well and if you don't stand for something you'll fall for. Let's see how many of these things we can get in on an audit on it. You know the everybody. I hear i see it on on facebook again. We're going to talk about local. We may get back into that but this is important as well is that everybody throws that word truth while the truth will the truth right well whose truth right whose truth because everybody understands a situation differently so i i get really annoyed when when i hear even when i use it the truth will. It's my truth right but truth lurks behind understanding. Does that making so that. That makes a lotta sense. And that's something that i don't think a lot of people understand and there's there's no black and white in this world there's not just be civil not asking you to be happy and you know and love everybody. No i'm just saying. Can we just be civil with one another. I look back again. At scott james post ali posted vote. Was he posted a prices of fuel. Which is a big darn deal. It's a big issue. Big issue right now and and it's very complex. We don't have enough time to get into that but you know again. I look at that. And i get pretty darn disgusted now. I don't get the responses. There's no doubt mike. Let's get into that that shopping local Type of thing like we said this is exactly where how this program started was Was with letting local businesses talked about how they were operating drink code and things of that nature. So where are you taking us today. Well the one thing that The world seems to be everybody. See if if you've looked there's mergers and acquisitions and purchases and you know. But when i drive down the streets ag- really down. Eighth avenue. were down tenth street. And i look and take the time to look and i'm not just looking at the stoplight or the speed limit. Sign we question whether our right. How do you do that anyways yet. But if you look further and you look over in the streets there is a whole bunch of mom and pop shops and though that money that is spent in those local organizations stays in the community and it is very very important. You know. I'll i'm going to throw a plug in for rick over at ace hardware over on eleventh. I go there. And i think it's maybe a little bit more expensive than going to home depot. But when i go there. Somebody's there to help. And if i have a problem. I can call the owner and he fixes it. And what's that worth. I think a bunch a bunch. Not here i mean even in my particular situation you know I'm really. I think i'm the last guy standing of any on the last big guy independent shop that actually has all of the equipment. The frameworks the heated. Pay boost measuring systems the alignment machines. I have all of that now. That doesn't mean there aren't a bunch of other small local body shops but they don't have the capabilities that we have. But you see all these big box stores when somebody comes to me the i'll give him my cell number if there's a problem right if there's if there's an issue they come right to me and they come right to me. They don't have to fill out. Paperwork consented in to have you know corporate review it and then you know i was trying to get a battery replaced on an ego or one of those cordless weed. Eaters my. God i still don't i still don't have it done right if that was if i sold that battery and the customer came back to my store and said this battery and i made that battery i would go. You're right this is bad battery. And i would hand them a battery and in corporate america and in these big box stores. You don't get that in. And on sand is the vast majority of people employed by mom and pops man right and covert and then now the supply chain is just is just falling apart. Quite frankly and i guess support local is best you can write and and what she brought up about. Kobe thinks a great point. And one of the biggest Issues that i had during all of this. I mean he said the health health aspects away and on the side for a second. Let's look at what did our economy and what it did is it picked those big corporations as the winners of this. Not everybody you think. Amazon was hurt by covert omegas on all triple absolute. So that's That's a good reminder to that that When when this was picked and there was winners and losers who were picked throughout cove it Those big corporations they they thrived and now these these mom and pops like like you. You've been saying they're battling just they're battling to stay. Stay afloat some aspects and some are getting getting back on there so You know you saw this big push shop local shop local shop local well then when things kind of got back to normal he stopped seeing that and and it's maybe now more than ever more important to be doing than we talk about relationships You know does that mean that You know all us home depot or lowe's you know Does that mean there's not some great people out there that work there. No absolutely not. There's some great people those places but they ain't got the they ain't got the power to fix some of the big stuff where right and that doesn't mean every small laura but that's also where we get a lot of the great You know the karen. The came out when they're asking to speak with a manager and they start berating somebody who has no control over the situation you know. That's that's the type stuff that i if you're shopping there. You're not going to get resolved by yelling at a manager and things of that nature but if you yell at a local manager just kidding you. Here's here's one of the things. And i'm gonna come You know i was seem to. 'cause it's i always come back to insurance and body shops right right. That's what i do and it's rexel passionate about. You know you can use that same analogy of buying local now. There is no such thing as a true local insurance company. 'cause they're all big behemoths right right but your agent. It's like j nine right. I mean you walk in here engineer. Their right ear Everybody in there. And you know. Scott bicknell. And and the moss spas and i can go through a whole plethora of agents that i would consider people that. Hey that's buying local. 'cause that money because they get commissions off to selling those policies and servicing those policies. They sponsor the local youth teams. They sponsor low. You know hell local radio. I mean all of it They do for sure so. I liked that message today. Michael local local buddy. That i'm fired up about anything man i miss. I grew up in a small town. Where when you you went to get your lawnmower fix. You went to coast to coast. You went to get something for radio. You went to radio shack and there was the owner was there and i remember my father. We would stand around and talk for a little bit. And i i just i miss those days uncle agree. I'm fired up about today. I like i like it Let's go let's snag break when we come back into the sign Yeah this is crazy headline. That did catch my. This'll be fun to talk about. It's no now on north dakota's voice everyone and thirteen ten. Kfi prep sports in the unc. Bears are northern colorado's voice one zero three point one and thirteen team. Kf all right. So it's zoos faw not only can you. Not feed the chimps. You can't have whoopi with the chester everything that went on during the show today. That is a weird way to end it so well to maybe you just this easy sediment weird headlines now. I know it's going to be the case. That is weird money. thanks for coming in. Appreciate it up for ryan kelly. I m tanner swint. This has been no co now presented by the jeanine agencies on northern. Colorado voice one. Oh three one at thirteen ten.
