"I mean you know. But he's like no videos like every day for years The other thing about bill. Words that i think is we're talking about is how how much he's he's been able to have a career on entirely his own on his own. Like like in in to the to not maybe not quite the level but in the same vein as like frank ocean or lord that like he has curated such a strong sense of aesthetic and searches such a devoted fan base because his content is inherently so quality that people wait nine or ten months a year plus for a piece of that. He's not playing the rat race. he's not he. He has circumvented the rat race of putting out content every day even though that's how we started on vine but that was less about him engaging with the social media more about him he felt like it was important to him to put out that frequently not to like his fans and one thing that is almost kind of like scary about him in terms of like so intimidating that someone could be like this That i feel like is apparent from watching his interviews that like it seems apparent to me that if if he had zero fans instead of like many millions of fans he would have made the exact same sequence of content at the times that he ran out like it seems like he he sort of planned just make content forever until somebody noticed basically and he was right even when people started following him. That never actually became an input into his like creative process. even it's insane to think about the theoretical world in which bill words just keeps going on completely unknown and just keeps making all that stuff. And that's why i think his songs have so much sincerity because he he did feel like i one point. It was like a candidates space. Where do you think you fall on that spectrum of you know creating content for the platform versus creating content for yourself because you also a and that's just sort of piggyback on that and i also want to ask on top of that and what have you learned by the frequency of making something platform as we said you know bill. Words does it. You know so much but one of the things that you really like. Put your foot down on when we first out was like. I'm not like an artist. Like i i love. I'm a musician. I love making things. But like i don't. I'm not doing the spotify thing. I'm not part of that. Yes the rat. Race have not. I'm not an artist. I'm the creator or something like that was sort of how you put it. You can't soup. I can of soup hashtag mechanics. Ooh.

And a huge loss in music today. It just seems like every time I'm here, we're losing somebody Great, and it's making me more grateful of all the musicians that we have today, and we should definitely celebrate them every time we get a chance to, But today we're going to celebrate Frederick Toots Hibbert, who passed away today at the age of 77. He was one of Jamaica's pivotal figures in reggae music, and he had so much soul so much passion and so much grit And we're going to celebrate all of that today and I couldn't think of a song that definitely exemplified all those components than this one. Right here. We're going to take it back to 1972. This 11 of my favorites, Funky Kingston from Toots and the Maytals. "Most recent? You know the other so called classics. We've had of been a thing of the past rarely. But how do you sum is it? Then grappled with it grappled with Doi- give it AC- status and I was like what is this and the thing we cut it off. The last one lot is a. We've covered it off every single. I'm still grappling. With what deformed definition is however. I just cannot Kennel go past the intelligence on his album. And then it's not like this is a stone cold classic. If you haven't listened to this album you must. And if he doesn't like a song on their after listening to you you've been distracted in NATO's and you'll find a song on there that you like and then I think once you get once you get one you'll get three or four vary as Louis and then and then it's the onion man you have union in front of you and it's just a question to you like Hamuli. Do you WANNA peel away. Because they're ready to be paled if you want and he's basically this album is sorry transparent He also he's so vulnerable in this. I think it's beautiful. Work Essay Safe Ashore. Well that was because we didn't we didn't talk about whether we think he gets an SEC beforehand. So as you know these completely unscripted completely on plan but But yeah I I think that you go past how bold and how brave and ballsy. He's been and and as I say it's the production on it is out of this world and so you know you look at that top one hundred pitch full list and there's a lot of albums on bans on her. I don't even fuck. You know to be honest but you know it deserves it. Status Kitsch folk gave it nine out of ten when it first came out. They didn't give it full marks but nonetheless when you look at their their review of the one hundred seems fully justified to mean stuff. So I'm not saying I'm not saying by any stretch. Is the number one album of the decade but I certainly think that you know for the benefits of our podcast. It's it's it's an absolute stone. Cold Cloud Interestingly Enough. Pitchfork did give my doctorate did fantasy a perfect ten toughest tent. They don't shy tends often Ryan. Yeah ten key tenants second behind this album which is interesting. Maybe it's because he's a grows age. Get good to get an extra mark four years later on tonight. I'm sure it probably would say yes. That's Frank Ocean. So that was that was nominated by ourselves. What's your song? What's my shit you know? Well I probably Sangatte bump scrambling bathroom notes now. I would say probably skyline too. Yeah right cottages comes off CA- backup could track track six on ending. It's helped by what it is. It's as in like it's followed it. It's following the first five tracks there and then they'll kill. It suffers as a result. So for me. That would be that would be a contender for the sheets. All of this as a contender had that as a anti-abuse I say but ultimately chose pretty sweet systems will ever the place the Wrigley's the place or just probably haven't got it yet like it's right. It's GONNA listen to this album again next week. I'm going to press wait. That's a fucking great song but for me it's just it's too dense for me right. Okay Okay Dude. Used the word dense listeners. You heard that correct. Use The word that Sadat Frank Ocean. Yeah Frankie Butts. And that's that's the twenty to the twenty twenties so yeah so so now. We'RE NOT. That was number thirty five so now we'll get it. We've got to get back into an apartment about months right so we need to start getting back into a routine of doing once a week. We tend to try and record on a Monday afternoon. Get live by Monday night So the next one we're back to a listener requests so this was this was Nominate by a former colleague of mine. this is the fifth studio out by a back to the. Brits an English rock band came out in the Mid Ninety S. And so there's again. There's a lot to unravel about this album It was a it was eventually a big success. butts at as with a band but it took some time get to that to that status. They've been around for a long time. there together would have done a few toll reunions holes in bits and pieces stuff. So we're going to be tackling this important number thirty six which show would should drop sort of this time next week. This is a shit together. Bandinelli that you introduce me to not surprising how much introduce you to any good music that you've listened to in your record collection. Td's claim TD's musical tastes before you met the Great Wall could all but be described as tenuous and a little rough randy edges. But yes I did. The national oil gang of youths go further and lightness yet rubbish. I'm just giving you great albums lost ten years. Well the national Yeah another national. They're pretty cool. Actually what a Lotta documentary that? The documentary of the singer's brother did a true fan. The Non True Fan. I'm talking to Larry Larry's is pretty good. I'm gagging you told me about while go. I've not I've not listened to them but national now. I really really like and stuff. I've got a few other mates The Harp on about that you doing stuff so I need to get into. I need to start listening to Just a lot of albums that have been told to listen to and just APP and Got Ryan To. It's not like a done at the chance because I fucking headphones in twenty three and a half hour a day so I need to start listening to more and more albums interesting. See what this what this year holds for what she holds in terms of music 'cause yeah there's a few memories of what's going to happen and stuff so County I just dropped another one right with his son his crew. But it's not it's it's I haven't listened to that I love this love this the first one. Jesus God whatever it's called. I've listened to the the the latest one yet as a few others. I need to get into but I will add the national get stuck into them and gang gang of youths as well so so anyway they go toba thirty five while gold and dude signing off on my take it easy bye..

"Be. Oh Indy and you start thinking about that. And that's been the subject of much discussion. Generally I mean what they're talking about. And what people have speculated that blonde as it appears on the album is is a fair head mile and a blonde as it's known With the A is a female. And is that a is that a reference to Frank Ocean's bisexuality or this ongoing theme around geology and things like that and I think that the service and then once you get even underneath that and it's like Diane not. Yeah Yeah exactly exactly. It's it's it's a good point and and you know you talk about love and loss and and you know he's a coal right he's telling stories and and you know there's there's there's not many greats. I don't think there's that many great storytellers in music. And he is without a doubt one of them and the thing is that it's not it's not fictionalized. What he's talking about is true. It's from the heart. I don't know that for sure but I feel I feel through the music. Sounds like a one key thing to say but you take the not entirely on that when you start to kind of brush away. The fluffing goal granular on this album and look at the lyrics. Shit I mean you know. Every single line has been thought through and stuff and as innuendos in his references and as you know is a lot of sort of philosophy that permeates through this through this album. The guy's got a lot to sane and you kind of get the impression that you know an hour could have been two hours easily and And you know you saw once once you get this album and as I said it took a while to get it but once you get it you then become excited about what. He's going to do next where he's going to go next. Who is going to do next? And and You Know An. It's an exciting time when when think about when you think about his future and stuff and yeah this shit to unravel this album. There really is listening to the bus. Stop Wedding boss. I was like three or four tracks state and I'll on spotify and on spotify when you listen to an album on spotify the genius lyrics of your looks at genius pop sometimes anyway. They popping up with lyrics on it as well and and when you look at the lyrics he and I this is when I was like man. This is A. It's a window into his journal. It was saying before it's it's so soulful. He's voice changes constantly through the album but even though Oughta know Frank Ocean. I'm I'm kind of a window into his soul into his bra. Brian and what he's thinking but just earlier. Today I was reading peach folks view on this album. And what's really interesting is. That went on a beautifully. They said that the power of Franks often comes buyer extreme transparency. But he's not rotting diaries. It's a bad how he's able to locate the crux of any situation or expose undo artifice or peel. Things back to their naked call and I think I thought that is just beautifully. It's just a beautiful summation of this this album. I think he plays with different genres throughout the whole album. And you'll often be halfway through song and it just changes a completely different direction Not just lyrically bit musically as well and I say this so many songs you listening to me like that. Kombi him singing. Who's that WHO's voices that and it's still he's just changed plate tempo away that the that the the voice is produced and August before I just think it's an album that everyone will get something out of a hundred percent and you're right I mean he's yeah many times though. Okay who's this guesting now? I realize now it's just hit. He's just is is is is voices is is voices vocals a layered right so he just goes all sorts star as it should be said as well that some they actually does have an incredibly good voice right and so so he's he's got into music and the talent the voice as well so she should we. You are plowing into this evening. Track is knock us and I think this was the he's opening music video attached to it as well and it's a he's a again when you start listening to this song you can see or you can hear how he's voice just distinctly changes throughout the song. The song has three distinct pot. Three distinct parts musically and lyrically any change the music as change. The lyrics and wearies lyrics are aiming at. I think it's a it's a beautiful song. It's a fucking video But it's a it's a great start to the album. It is a great stops. The album it. It's it's it's fairly instant. I was GONNA say media but stick from out in the Paschal using the word of media extensively as a great so reference to a fellow here who of course fell in love with a white woman does the Moaner Econo- economy goes on all sorts of reference to Thilo cocaine use? And you know it's thoughts offer me a little bit slow in it gets a bit more uptempo stuff and and as I I mean I like when I first listened to my thought okay. This song set a bit of a tone for me. That's okay interesting. You know it wasn't. It wasn't going to be incredible but it said a bit of a time for me but but I like it. It's a cool song and it's the one and a lot of people. I was reading reviews and stuff. A lot of people focus on. Actually they. They really like is it as an open so yeah I enjoyed it. I thought it was good. I think it's a great song but I think I think he just gets better and then the next Song Ivy. It's just really back at PPAC strumming electric guitar. It's it's it's a real ballots on. I think that this whole album. It's not I mean when they say it's an rb album in an urban album. It's it's really the bay in our in Bay it's really the Blues and I think captures that completely as well and to interesting contributed only say albums. Jamie sex from the accent and and Rustan from from vampire weekend This is one of my favorite songs on the album. Avi I love it and again look like this is one of the first songs That when you did that really caught my attention. That's all. It is a great song. I like it. I didn't realize that the Vampire Rostow anew. Jamie of play between these two different vocals and stuff bobble Salaam. A light lyric. We were friends. I like thing not really is really kinda cool and stuff and yeah at this point at this point. I was thinking okay. Okay but it wasn't. It didn't blow me away. I have not look. It's too early for me because always I mean is two songs in and stuff but to I could appreciate very quickly though as the production production on on on on the first couple of songs and stuff. You know if much about music you know I knew just this. Z's versus choose tons is a Shitload is going to say when you look at the the production contributors in the Shave Breadth of musicians and instruments. That have that played on his album. You realize scope of the scope of its Enormously and pink and I think it's again totally different song. This is this more wrap that rhymes. It's really heavy track With with the long spotted guitar when I was saying before around. It's like a a window into his. Dr Is this sermon songs on he. Or I'm just imagining him. I don't even know if he's from New York but he's an apartment in New York sitting on looking at the window just singing a song thing just playing his guitar playing piano And this this bond is produced by Williams Features phages beyond say on crediting. That this is Again Pink and white talking about that whole jollity so many things on here where there's like one against the other and he's recalling his youth and never calling the lessons to someone close to him Taught him yeah. Yeah I mean we touched it before we start you tap on say guest on on a sunlight. Ordinarily you get beyond say guest on a song song becomes beyond say Song so could be ferrall. Williams featuring beyond save for the song becomes known for is so incredibly understated. I mean literally. I mean she just kind of Tux. In the back. End of the song Yeah back back vocals and harmonies and stuff and and honestly I mean really you. Unless I've known I wouldn't have known it would be onset. I because as you say she. She's complete young credited and stuff but it's so he's my thing right. I have this vision of her. Like calling Amol Messaging even gone. You know gone to fucking guest on the ear. Amazing on a thing and then go. Yeah Yeah Song you mind just doing backing vocals for the last twenty seconds with us. She goes to the. I'll do that just in my head. That's how it comes out but again like how would always contributors out. This is a four year project. Like it's a it's a it's a exurbs..

"So you say, hey, man, like, there's a lot of competitions. We gotta tell Meghan Trainor. Instead. It's interesting though, because there's the idea of representation like in this sense. Like who you'd want performing do they truly represent that community? But then there's also the idea of openness towards the community which could be represented in the form of a performer like a Meghan Trainor who isn't LGBTQ, but once the community to be recognized right once then positively towards the community or they could have a jam in the price point worked. Just the other. They could just be simple, logistics. But anyway, good for the dodgers four village in king Franko Frank ocean was in the Bill phone at a pride festival. His music is so sad. And e mode up. Any who transition of zoo Botts had something to say to Laker fans? He is now a clipper in what was a very one-sided deal by the Lakers from the Lakers to the clippers. And he said a bunch of fans come up to me. And they say why did we why did we trade you the Laker front office? Did the biggest mistake? Everyone's like, we miss you. And I always say I'm on a better team. Now, you don't have to be sad for me. And I always make sure to tell them check. Our check our game out. If you wanna see good basketball now zoo has gone on Twitter after this, quote, blew up and said that I wasn't trying to Jay. Everyone's trying to make you were. I'm sorry Monroe situa takes your dog. What you doing? There's no other way to take a rage better than that. So the way to take it man, like even acknowledging what could be a bit of a language barrier. Come see us. If you want to see good basketball. Listen, here's is what it is man one. He's he says something like this more than one. Yes. Exactly. So let's not pretend as if you're not throwing shots to form a team and oh, by the way, bra you're not wrong. Yes. Own it. You're not wrong. The clippers are in the play offs the clippers play the right way, the clippers hustle on both sides of the floor. They play team basketball. They're winning a fantastic coach. I got a great owner perfect chest out. It's all right here. In a weird way. This is the best thing that's happened to him in this career. Yes. Oh, absolutely. You know, he's going to get to play meaningful basketball, and and work up his his free agent value, even more. The funny thing is though is if you're the Lakers you take offense to that. If you're the Lakers. Yeah. No. I mean, you if you do not offense to someone from the clippers said that that zoo, boxers like I want to sue he was cool with everybody before he left. He he may have been cool. But if I'm zoo pots like it's not just that. I got traded by the Lakers. I would feel insulted by that trade. Yeah. I mean, I would feel personally insulted, by the way, my worth was chalked up in that trade. What I that's the number one question that I get basketball people people were for teams asking me what happened there. Oh, the Lakers pursued it it's nice. I like the clippers were like, let's try this. They're going to say, no. But the there's always, no. Until you ask the Lakers, they broach this deal. I mean Moscow low was kinda like the trash at the Phillies throughout right? The seventy Sixers theory. Well, now that was that was feeling right. A scholar would have been waived in like a week like if he might have just been available to St. free. And I don't mean that he's trash, but it's just like e ninety wasn't mentioned him. But they didn't do it from a scholar. They know to open up a roster spot, which one is just wave. Beasley Beasley straight him and cute with this. Why are you going to give up an actual asset?.

"Rocky as a performer, are you still happy with with the so-called music business. You know, it has its ups and downs changes. You know for me man, I have a co following. I don't really have to contribute to like, you know, do things to stay relevant. Hot man. I'm I'm fortunate enough to be one of those individuals like I said earlier, probably like Andrei somebody Frank ocean, a creative to whiz you just do what you do. When when I'm I'm compassionate about it. And I think that kind of like really relate, my fans and my coat. Why why you don't tell us that two thousand nineteen is yours you you would have in eighteen you're the hottest in R&_B in fashion in Susie. Chefs in you know, what I'm saying. Why are you in jail like that? I don't know. Because I think I'd rather just let my work speak for so writing accomplishments was I was in. I'm very humble at this moment, just chilling obscene. It no people come and go, and it's just like I'm just happy to be here. This this is though you say you recently watched our interview with with big now. Drako? He he created, you know, he he actually he gave you a good skin and everything. It wasn't for soldier boy at right? He probably wouldn't be around me why because the same formula, you know, it's almost, you know, just as far as not too far fishes me saying if it wasn't for real I wouldn't be able to do what I do in fashion and navigate from they mistakes. And would not know what I'm saying. Like, I feel like we're soldier, man. He kind made a formula. He's the first to do it and it worked for him. And since then, I think that kind of became the basis of weight or standard way to make it in music hip. Hop industry also through YouTube and with night and just kind of like do it yourself kind of promoting yourself nowadays. That's what everybody's about on your album testing. I feel that you showed very much like you cannot be boxed in when it comes to your style. Where do you see yourself right now? Your place in hip hop. I think what I love about me is is that like even like my Allan prior to that, you know, songs like LSD Lord, pretty flagged with Jodie canal street, excuse me, people didn't give me credit for like two years leaving stuff like that. No trying. Stroke, my ego again, but I think I'm ahead of mine sometimes conflict, you know, what I'm saying when they say don't get ahead of yourself right.

Okay. So when he first came out like people thought it was a rumor, and I thought it was in half crazy came out. And he did this seem he was sitting in the bathroom, and he looked up into camera down to don't do it. You know, like Najib because people say I looked like him. He really was one of my favorite artists of all time. I feel like and this is a hot take I feel like he was Frank ocean before Frank ocean was Frank ocean. Hear me out I yeah. Yeah. He didn't have the strongest most acrobatic voice. But the writing was so good and performances were so consistent with what he sounded like on albums that you had to like it. You couldn't you couldn't say that. You know, you can say he was auto tuned it up or they you know, he wasn't gonna be no Luther he went trying to be Luther. He wasn't going to be like below who also had an amazingly underrated first album first born second, you you won't get you out. He was in that Neil soul vibe without giving you the vocal acrobatics of some of the singers from that time period shot up, the smart brothers. They recently did a tribute to raise in her first album from that same era. I mean that's an album right there. Still is timeless. Classic. That's still goes hard today. If you think about the music from that Neil, so era and listen to it today is still relevant. But that's a sign of good music like as much as I don't really. I'm not gonna add don't care for India are-. But as much as I think the Indiana was overrated to a certain extent. Yeah. I'll say that I m solid everything after that. The views expressed on the kinda sleep behind. Okay. Okay. Go listen to Acoustic Soul. Listen, everything. After that. Now at as we are now and you'll see India is first album was solid in the rest of it was. It was. India is the jewel Santana of of Neal's. Oh. Wow. Think about think about Joel sentence for them. Classic. Since then. Okay. But it because you got if you if you're gonna talk about India hurry in that time period. You gotta put her up against fall. Let's let's put a pain in his right? Remember that are you personally issuing refunds? He responded. I'm sorry to see us. And we're not there that really bums me out. I'm also bummed that MS Lauren hill and crew didn't tell people why we're not there. She took us off the Bill and somebody tweeted her, hey, what happened in Portland. I hope you are not ill.
