"Hey welcome to another episode another flight of coaches co-pilot and today i wanted to just kind of chat with the a little bit. I am just days away at the time of this recording from heading off on a seven week fifty day. Rv trick with my husband now. We've been planning this for well over a year. So i actually have a lot of things in place so that while i'm gone you guys aren't even gonna notice my absence other than maybe you're happening to check if facebook now and then or instagram. And you see that. I am off in never never land enjoying some awesome different places. But i didn't get here by accident. Many of you longtime listeners may recall that the first quarter of this year was all about me being in another state taking care of my granddaughter. And i didn't get a lot of work done during that time because i was focused on her. Now fortunately while my business didn't grow during that time. I didn't see any issues as far as i didn't lose any clients. I didn't have any major problems. Come up. I was able to sustain the business that i had now. My next challenge is in this next seven weeks. I actually want to grow business. I don't wanna just sustain. I wanna be able to take these amazing trips and grow a successful business at the same time so i wanted to record this before i left and put it out there a little bit that. When you're listening to this. I will actually be back home and i'm going to do another. Follow up report next week. The tells you all about how things went. So here's my goal. I wanna grow by a certain amount of clients. I wanna grow by a certain amount of business. I'm not going to put it out here. But if you join me over in the hangar. I will put it out there and i'm going to do it before i leave so that you guys can kind of track with me and see now that's coaches co-pilot dot com backslash hanger so i'm setting myself up and setting key goals so that when i am on this fifty day trip enjoying some amazing places like going to different baseball stadiums across the country and visiting some awesome frank lloyd wright properties I'm gonna go to. I'm gonna date myself here but Huge little house on the prairie fan. And so i'm going to go do the mankato's to walnut grove road and visit some of the places that she traveled on a regular basis back. Then see some awesome sites around our country. I'm gonna go do those things. But at the same time i am going to commit to growing my business and let's see how it goes. I just kind of want to put it out there. I want to share it with you and let this be a little bit of accountability and a little bit of work. So here's what i've done i have. Here's what i've done to make that happen. My team has been empowered to take control of the areas in which they're in they're going to report into me on a regular basis. We're not going to do. The typical team calls that we do. But i am going to encourage them to do a little report and check in with me. I'm going to record some really cheesy videos to share with them so that i'm checking in with them. They know where i am. And we're gonna do a little bit of a kind of distance remote type of check in as opposed to the team meetings that we usually do. But we're still going to stay in touch. I'm still going to be available to them. I've got some chat feature set up so that they can reach out to me if there is an urgent matter or something that needs to be addressed but i have been really training them and empowering them to take more responsibility and take control over some of the issues that might crop up. In the meantime. I am setting forth a list of tasks for me that i'm gonna follow up on that. I am going to be responsible for that. Will help me build and grow the business. These are things that i will make sure that i accomplished on a weekly basis. I don't wanna say daily. Because i don't know yet how my internet's going to be. I'm sure they're going to be some places that we're gonna be staying some state parks or national parks where the wifi is not reliable and even my cellular service might not be good enough so we'll just kind of keep it as a weekly check in of lists of things that i wanna make sure that i accomplished and We'll come up with some alternatives. To how i normally do prospect calls whereas normally i have a schedule i can jump on zoom call based on that schedule we're going to have to tweak that a little bit and see how that works. I don't exactly know how that's gonna look yet. But i am open to how the universe gives me a great idea and is going to deliver that so those are my goals. I wanna keep today's episode just really short. Because i'm kind of excited in. I gotta get back to pack in over here it. It takes a long time to pack. Rv for a fifty day rv trip and You let me know. Have you ever taken a trip this long or or kind of partially checked out from your business to where had the time to plan ahead and you could get everything ready and you knew you're going to be gone a long time but you are still going to be running your business same time. I'm really curious and if you took an awesome vacation this summer. I want to hear about it. Come join me over at coaches co-pilot dot com back slush hanger Can't wait to hear about all your awesome summer trips this year. Thanks so much and we will see you next week when i actually check in with how things are going. I think i'm actually going to do one from the road which is probably gonna have really crappy audio. Because i'm not sure. I'm going to have my regular mike. But that's gonna be okay. It's gonna be just kind of riffing on the fly. And i'll i'll check in report and then we'll do a final follow up with how what i learned and what i have to share with you in how i might do things different. Next time we go out on the road with us today. We truly appreciate your presence and look forward to serving..

"Game when i say bay bridge rush hour. Wouldn't you say frustration anxiety. Regret that. I didn't take part. Doom gloom and misery. You start to see whether cars are flying pastor. There's already traffic building up. It's either hope or horrible disappointment stopping in going and stopping and going all that goes through your mind. Is i am trapped with cars on every side of me and the last time i saw a video of this baby is it was collapsing in an earthquake. Paralyzing terror it's been a while since some of us have experienced the type of rush hour traffic that was normal pre pandemic but traffic is getting bad again and when the car is start to pile up those metering lights an old idea often resurfaces build another bay bridge. As soon as the bay bridge was completed in the nineteen thirties. People wanted a second bridge even back then. Traffic was terrible. Did you know the great american architect. Frank lloyd. Wright designed a bridge across the san francisco. Bay duncan keith of san jose did he studied in school. It would have been brilliant. And i think it would have been very influential and possibly change. The course of how other bridges subsequent to it would have been designed but rights vision for that. Second bridge never materialized. Dunkin wants to know why not today on the show. We're bringing you an episode that first aired in january of two thousand eighteen when even senator dianne feinstein was talking about a second bay bridge. I'm katrina schwartz. And you're listening to bay. Curious support for bay curious comes from sierra. Nevada brewing company family owned operated and argued over since nineteen eighty proud supporter of independent thought. Whether that's online over the air or in a bottle more at sierra nevada dot com cake you at silicon valley senior editor. Rachel myrow takes us back to the bridge. That never was frank lloyd. Wright loved the bay area. But you wouldn't know it because there just aren't a lot of his buildings around here seven or eight depending on how you count them including the houses. That's paul turner a professor emeritus in architectural history at stanford. He's the author of frank. Lloyd wright and san francisco a book. That's as much about the projects that didn't get built as the ones that did frank. Lloyd wright actually designed close to thirty projects for the bay area and they include some of his most unusual and then really amazing of buildings for example. His first skyscraper was designed for market street in san francisco. But right never got the commission. I san francisco skyscraper just as he never got a commission to design another bay bridge in the late nineteen forties. Right was competing for projects all across the country. A bay area engineer and fan of rights suggested he throw his hat in the ring for proposed second bay bridge. If there was some project that he found interesting he would do the design and then just hope it would get bill and he could promoted. You'd hoping we'll get that was in nineteen forty nine and right would spend the rest of his life the last decade trying to win over decision makers in california because he fell in love with his own proposal which he called the butterfly bridge the structure had the form of the action wings of a butterfly in reinforced concrete news. It's beautiful sculptural form when you look at the drawings that he did. I can't say. I see the butterfly in the butterfly bridge. I say well this is a family program. Okay from overhead. It looks like a giant lady. Parts suspended in the center of two concrete strings. Of course you can't sell a branch calling it. That or can you. Let's all visualized together that. We're watching promotional drone footage. We lift off from the san francisco end of the bridge at the terminus of army street now. Cesar chavez long curved concrete arms stretch across the water towards oakland carrying six lanes of traffic and two pedestrian walkways two arches that the roadways for the bridge separated the center and supported a hanging garden. People driving across the bridge could pull off into this landscape park and enjoy the views of from hypol- kind of crazy idea. That traffic going across the bay would stop. And there'd be enough room for parking and but that was the idea but right couldn't get the state to adopt the plan. The engineers in sacramento. We're able to say well. It's just not worked out in enough detail. We don't think it's gonna work it's too radical and very much but no thanks exactly and of course no bridge was was was built at all they ultimately they decided it wasn't necessary because a few years later people started talking about barred under the bay and so that became the solution to this traffic. Right call that idea suicidal which will turns out to be. An overstatement is the transbay tube is still going strong after more than forty years. But even as he neared the end of his life right never stopped trying to sell his bridge here. He is in his mid eighties making a pitch on k. Picks tv nine thousand nine hundred fifty three like construction on. It also seems to undulate doesn't as as well the water and reflection is needed to complete video of the ridge in the end right died and with it serious thoughts of doing something with his plans especially after the new expanded san mateo bridge opened in nineteen sixty seven every now and then for if people talk about an extra pasha bridge now stories in which bay bridge still captivates the imagination of of the public because it is so beautiful. That story was from k. Q. e. d. silicon valley senior editor. Rachael myrow so what does our question. Asker duncan keith of san jose. What does he think. Should we resurrect frank lloyd. Wright's butterfly bridge. As much as i would like to see this bridge have been built. That was for a different time. These days we're gonna make any investment it ought to be in transportation and getting trains across the bay not cars. We have enough cars already and you know throwing more cars across the bay just going to make the traffic situation on the peninsula and san francisco wars. You can check out photos of rights plans for yourself at bay curious dot org and hey while you're there be sure to cast a ballot and our latest voting round or send us a question. You've wondering about this. Show runs your curiosity bay. Curious is produced by susie rancho brennan willard and meek trina schwartz. Our show is a production of member supported. Achey in san francisco next week. Hello hello hello. My name is doris harsh. And i'm the host of right. Now we got something for you a new series highlighting how wheels community in culture come together in this very unique way here in the bay. California is car country. Everyone knows that. In addition to cars this part of the world is home to bikers skateboarders folks in wheelchairs if it goes around and get you there. It's on the table. Follow the right now. Is podcast to listen to that besides..

"Were architects at Italian of Sin West. Oh, wow. They do plan to restore and put a copper roof on that building, which was part of Franklin Rites. Original design, which surprises me and I don't know. Maybe copper was just a lot cheaper back there because one thing That always impressed me about frankly right, You know what? I build something. I very rarely find a way to do it cheap. Always want the best products. The best tool is the best material I get done. I want it to be done for life. Well, Frank Lloyd Wright, his buildings Ah, lot of them still standing because it was masonry focused, but he also was one that could tie it in affordably, and that's something that has Always impressed me about him. We've got these timeless buildings. And you think you know these were, you know, make a bucks to build. But that was part of of his gift is it He could come up with these incredible designs These incredible structures. And not break the bank doing it, And I'm wondering if that's why the copper roof never originally ended up on the David Gladys Wright house makes sense. He was fitting in the budget, and they also had 10 things you might not know about Frank Lloyd Wright, his second oldest son, John. Was the inventor of Lincoln logs. You're kidding. Wow. Granddaughters was an actress. That was an Oscar best actress nomination. So great is you don't have it. It's on stands. Now It's November's issue of Arizona Highways magazine. "On Friday. Live in Phoenix. Jump cross news, Jim, Let's get just traffic right now from Detroit and the Valley Chevy Dealers. Traffic Center. Is this possible? We have our third vehicle fire the morning. Sometimes it's so weird in traffic when mornings like that happen, And it does this in weird ways all the time. It'll be like three couches. Tomorrow is weird like that. But you're right this morning. This is our third vehicle fire this one not very far from the last one. But it's this one at least, is pretty minor compared to the others. North bound 17 north of Seventh Avenue near that 19th Avenue Durango curb. Looks like this is a small little red pickup truck off to the left, and it looks like it keeps on smoking. A little puffs coming up out of the front engine. Fire truck just rolled up. I don't think we're gonna have much problem with it. But for the moment you want to leave your right North found 17 coming into that Durango. Kurt, We do have an earlier vehicle fire That's still going this little trouble over at Buckeye west of Central Avenue Number three, though North bound 17 at Union Hills that winter, Glendale that one cleared out much earlier this morning, so we do have A little bit of brake light action coming in Westside 20 minute ride 101 75th Avenue to Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard. "I'd like to welcome to the show Sarah brewers from travel with Sara, dot com, and also mid west travel network, DOT COM and oddly enough we're going to talk about the mid West and specifically serious here to talk to us about Iowa Sarah Welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here excellent well and I put out the. Word among my travel blogger brethren and written and I don't think that this thing put a couple of weeks ago and said, I've got three missing states I missing Iowa Nebraska and Hampshire, and at least one person I think it was more than one said if you want Iowa have to talk to Sarah and why is that? Sarah. What's the connection to Iowa? Well I live in Iowa. I have lived here all my life and I live on I will farm I'm married the neighbor boy in two thousand eight I started a blog and it was in two thousand thirteen that I really dove into the travel side of things. But the one thing that I realize is a lot of people didn't know a whole lot about the mid West or my home state of Iowa in. Most people don't realize that I will has beautiful cornfields and soybean fields we have that, but we have a lot of other amazing things and that's why you need to come to Iowa to visit and we're GONNA get into all of those today and I can't wait to share I. Clinical Slices a paradise will normally ask why someone should go I. Think you jumped into that one ahead of time anything else you would add to that I will surprise you I think the art, the culture, the scenic byways will blow you away. You could spend probably one home month exploring Iowa's scenic byways and I think that's pretty darn. Cool excellent will and where are you going to take us to what you're gonNA recommend where we starting. Well, let's start and do and. North, central. Iowa. Route, which is near where I live. I live near Mason. City. Mason. City Clear Lake and we're GONNA go to Charles City those three towns there, and then he can go up to forest city where you can see we're winnebago motorhomes are made. So you start in Mason city, Mason cities, a great base camp, and I would recommend that you stay in the park in hotel. The parking hotel is the last known hotel in the world designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Can stay there. Okay. People come from all over the world to Mason City Iowa population twenty six thousand something. So I have to Mason City, but I stayed in the holiday and see this is my mistake. You need to come back and see if the. I'll give you the grand old tour I. Didn't know he had designed any hotels. That's true. The first thing people say to me is Oh I don't think I could afford to stay there. and. I'm telling you that rooms at the Parken Hotel in Mason city. Iowa. Are Very affordable. I'm talking one twenty, nine to one, fifty, nine at night in a historic hotel. Designed by Frank Lloyd. Wright. I mean that is amazing. So when you're in Mason City, you want to do the river city's sculptures on parade, which is a sculpture walk, and it's always fun because I travel a lot and you know these artists that create these sculptures are all across America and maybe some of you've seen the Humpty dumpty sculpture that's around. I. Know I'M Thinking, the last place I saw one was in Mesa Arizona Okay I just have to take a Selfie with it because I'm like here's how you know Humpty kind of manages to be wherever I am but the sculptures are really a nice walk because they also take you through the Rock Glen area in Mason City, which is where there are other Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes. So is not only the hotel. There's other homes there as well and McKnight or art museum is a fantastic museum in town. They have the bayard puppets, Baird Marionettes, wizard of Oz the marionnettes that we're using the wizard of Oz are in the museum in Mason City and you can go across the street to Music Man Square we what puppets were in wizard of Oz are we talking about flying monkeys or what? Yes. Monkey is there okay it's a really Nice Museum but then you go across the street and you go to Meredith Wilson's boyhood. Home The music man. So, Meredith Wilson was born in Mason city. Iowa. And the Music Man Square has museum in there that is home to. Meredith Willson. So in the streetscape is in there and it looks just like in the movie, but you would envision it. So that's pretty cool. Meredith Willson he's also buried in Mason City and you know what? There's a lot of people that look for famous people were buried. You know who knew a lot of people cemetery tourism is kind of a big deal but then you go, let's go estimates saying you've already Charles City and get to Whitewater rafting most people don't think of Iowa and Whitewater rafting. And you can do that in Charles City Iowa. In Charles City I'm not sure eight, ten thousand people maybe. And you can stay in a luxury cabin there at red? Cedar. Lodge cabins that are overlooking the river great place for extended families to stay. But you've got the river

"Inverness yeah even even in a non scientific way that's over how it does work as it reflects that he our that's the simple answer to it it does not let the heat transfer and threw it reflects it back outward now in the winter does it reflect the heat back in now it typically does not they do have some like low E. he lock last things like that that are designed to do something of that but if you still look at the you factor which I told you is the winter energy efficiency yes there are still going to be relatively the same numbers those are on change so typically if you do like the Frank Lloyd Wright thinking where your you know windows that only get hit during the winter you do a low either to code or no code to low E. on that something like that but it's very seldom is that even an option really but you you will consider changing glass glazing options in one home as you go around the four elevations of it I typically say go with the most energy efficient glass package available for that product he has even at night when it's a hundred degrees outside yeah if your single pane windows letting in eight percent and you think it's okay because it's in the shade your new energy efficient windows going to be blocking out eighty percent of that and that's still in the shade okay over here was sells a kind of done right windows Rosie certified window replacement specialist been a member of sal you've been a member what now about seven eight years is it hasn't been that long.

"Hello Hello Welcome. That's quite funny that you picked that lineup by the funnies because it was I said it in barons in Glasgow when we were recording a live album on the tour and finally is a very endearing to call someone in Glasgow. If you're being an idiot appeared fanny and it just came out. It was unplanned. It's on my live album so yeah I think is gonNA glass that one great. Hashtag stike five eight member to write the word five. So you've been based out in La for some time now and that's obviously a very different culture. Has that impacted on your song race in Seoul what you say. Yeah I think location is always GONNA be important ingredient in what material you come up with and I'd actually go night to La to sort of start again. Because I'd been through some really difficult stuff here in the UK a dotted past divorce. Everything owned just really needed a fresh start. I wanted some sunshine and I wanted to be somewhere just in this of replenishing environment. London's quite overwhelming very fast place city. Oh it was found it quite difficult to relax in London and I gone to Venice. Beach was onto an. I'd been going to La for a long time tour but it was the first time few years ago I went to Venice beach and it was the first place. I'd been where everyone is just bombing around every day of the week. You don't have to wait for the weekend and that's actually really helpful for what we did. Because we don't have weekends in London if I had a Wednesday off. Everyone's just giving me evil looks because I've got time off whereas there it's just a very laid back quite an alternative culture in that part of La and La's basically like twitter. It just totally depends who you follow. You can have an extremely different experience living in different parts of La knowing different people. It's very separate all these areas so you can. You can really have a completely opposed experience of living there from someone else and so I chose Venice and I was going to take a break. I felt very stagnated. It just felt like I was caught in an eddy of finding the mixer. He's mixing everybody's staff of being in competition with you know inevitably any other female musicians that anyone could think of. And I just wasn't very inspired to make a record so I've actually gone out to L. A. Really to study film composition which I did but it was really just listening to west coast rock sixties and seventies row. Tom Petty fleetwood. Mac Neil Young Joni that got me writing some real kind of Air Punch big choruses again and the world had sort of become darker at that stage that was like two thousand fifteen things were on the turn and so if I was writing similar stuff folk inspired stuff like I did on invisible empire crescent me my fourth record. I probably would have to shelve it and waited but I was writing these really. Big Pop. Choruses about overcoming difficulty so it felt like quite helpful thing to put out into the world. I was excited to do it. Yeah we're always fascinated by right zoo. Kinda take a break from when we spoke to front healy. He said it's Kinda like select the field life. Follow for Awhile and I think that's really important. I think that's why I mean. Some people can smoke fags burgers every day until they're one hundred and five and they're fine. Everyone's different but it certainly works for me to not be constantly trying to keep up a level of output people often ask about writer's block and I actually watched them a star is born. The other day was it as far as born. No it was the wife. It was that foam the wife. Brilliant Glenn Close Foam. And there's a line in it where they're at this really pretentious party. No it wasn't even the wife. Can you ever forgive me? It was one of the Oscar nominated movies when Melissa. Mccarthy goes to this book party. And someone's asking this really pretentious right or do you ever get writer's block and he goes well. I don't subscribe to writer's block I was like. Oh my God. I say that it sound so pretentious but I actually don't. I just think it's quite arrogant to expect your creative mind to just do what you tell it to do. I don't understand really where the gift of some rain comes from. And so if people ask me that question I'm like look how many books how many films how many plays how many museums of you said that you want to go and see Redo Watch ingest and you've done use that time. Fill yourself with some stuff. Get some input or sit and do nothing in your Pyjamas. Also very useful. I find but you shall time for creativity. Oh that sounds like a bit of a paradox book. Do you put a new. Yes so it's a great excuse to go on. Adventures. I love right now albums. I love albums that one piece of vinyl because I think that four or five minute cut off point is actually a really good of point for how much music you can ingest at one time. The same for podcasts. Yeah good to know. I'll keep my answers slightly shorter but yeah I think albums are a really extraordinary form of making music. Even if you're not I mean I'm in the middle of the matic are making three albums together in a trilogy at the moment. But even if you're not doing that there's a there's a familial kind of hermetically sealed world within which that record is made and so many people will come up to me and say that their favorite track is an album track. And IT WASN'T I. It would have been the single at first but Israeli side that we're kind of moving. I'm not a lot of people I know are not but in general. There is a move away from albums. And I think that that's a shame because it kind of is taking away that deep dive on a snapshot of an artist's life at that time so tell us about that idea that you've been chewing Kim and walks. Did you have a unifying concept of the trilogy before you even started? Nope that was the thing that was really funny trilogy. You would think that you would decide upon that before you started. And I didn't and I wrote can and it was so very healing experience. In that record it was coming with kind of really Fu blast Mojo but really feeling like it was the beginning of the second half of my life so I came to. Kim is quite a different person than I had been up until that point and in many ways the fourth record invisible empire crescent meeting. I kind of see funeral music. It's cold these titles because my dad died right in the middle of those sessions and it was. He wasn't very well but it wasn't expected. And then I kind of had this wake up where I just went on Gordon with the wrong person. I'm sort of in the wrong life. And so yeah. And this is when procurement was this kind of funeral march to that happening and so then became this real phoenix from the ashes. It was this real beginning of something completely new for me and you know it's very easy to take a show. L. A. N. It's completely deserved. It's total bullshit van. You know people go. Oh my God. You're amazing you've got to do the movie. Oh they never called me ever again but there is also this amazing element to la where it's really is the vanguard of a low of new thoughts from health to filmmaking to the arts. You don't get laughed at for trying weird stuff. And there's a brilliant Frank Lloyd Wright Amion love he's an intrinsic part of La's architecture and kind of culture and but he says if you turn America on its site everything falls in California and so you just get a low of Weirdos and a low of them eccentric people and the thing I particularly like about L. A. Is Wild in many ways but actually like literally you can drive twenty minutes and be at the top of a mountain and be killed by a lion and that's the truth and there's Koyo Cheese and eagles and it really is untamed and it's also completely untamed in Mississippi as well because there's not as with guns in their cars so it's just a really extreme place so meditation had been a big part an always wanted to get into yoga just healing myself and getting really healthy and it's very easy to do there and I did and I really enjoyed it. Meditation became quite an important part of my daily life. And very good doing this job to just actually learn to control your brain because a lot of the time the monkey brain is just jotting chatting biscuit to shut up for fifteen minutes Varvara Day but it was during a meditation session on the tour for Qin's Akin was all finished and I am. I just had a really really strong vision. That can was the first part of a trilogy. It was all about the soul owned by the spirit and I knew I wanted to make a real rock and roll record next and I knew I wanted to explore electric guitar because I hadn't really delved into that. It always been acoustic and that to me is the most visceral most physical Instrument Electric Guitar.

We're going to get into what's trending. Ryan burrow is gonna join us as well. One of the Super Bowl controversies is a you may have heard Michael SHI pay do it at the news at the top of the hour. The corn Growers Association is now pissed off at beer companies. Right because Bud Light made the big deal out of not using corn syrup. Right. Demonizing corn syrup weaponising if you will. I found the controversy. Everyone's gotta have a controversy. Right. We all have to be offended by something. Right. I mean, that's just so twenty nineteen who's offended by what and T Mobile's. Getting a lot of blowback. And I thought it was a very clever ad where I always love these memes and stuff of text messages. And somebody says, hey, what do you wanna do for dinner was the ad? And you see the guy responding. I want tacos, but you're probably gonna want sushi again. And then he erases it, and he's like whatever you want baby racist. And it's like why are you have a girls night? So I can actually have tacos, and you can see the internal dialog. And it's playing out in this text message, and he ends up just settling on whatever you want. And so then she writes back sushi question, Mark. It's funny. Right. Who doesn't have those conversations with their spouse or their girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever of what do you want for dinner? And there's always like a weird give and take and who gets to always make the decision and is always the same. Of course, she said that she always wants to go there. Well, people lost their minds on the internet saying, it's sexist. And women aren't like that. It's like come on. Gimme a break. But if you're if you're offended by something that makes you more of a person and better makes you relevant is what it makes you this day and age. All right. So there is a story where USC has a warehouse used to be a former city, I think it was city light power, whatever it was building the USC took over. It's a giant warehouse, and it has a small locked room in it one of the things that USC did in the I think it was the mid nineties was they took over a Frank Lloyd Wright house that was built there's another one I well in Rudolph Schindler, I guess there's a furniture designer and the Frank Lloyd Wright Freeman house that's up in the Hollywood hills was damaged by the ninety four earthquake. And in the process of rehabbing that they moved some of the contents of the house into this nondescript warehouse. Down in south LA. Well, six years ago. Somebody clearly an inside job based on the fact that it wasn't nobody broke in. And they had to know exactly where this stuff was somebody went in to this warehouse and grabbed furniture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Rudolph Schindler two of the most celebrated American architects in the twentieth. Century floor lamps from Frank Lloyd Wright, a cushioned chair believed to have been designed by Schindler. And you think about it? Too lamps in a chair, you go to you go to IT, and you can get out of that store for one hundred twenty bucks and have that same hall. Not the case. A nearly identical piece that right made for the same period for a Hollywood Boulevard home sold at auction two years ago for one hundred thousand dollars this is a lamp a hundred thousand dollars. So we're looking conservatively these two lamps and chair could be worth a quarter million three hundred four hundred thousand dollars. If you sell them as a group if you just have them. Well. This story is that. Yes. Somebody broke into that brick facility on twenty four th street some time around the year two thousand and Stu and nine leave. It was now. Sorry, two thousand twelve is when they noticed that the those pieces of furniture were missing no sign of break in no sign of analysts and nothing else taken, but the most expensive floor lamps and chair in the history of floor lamps and chairs do you think? This is how Carmen hotrails was able to buy those hotrails, and I don't I don't think. So although I'm not gonna lie. I'm not going to say, it's a roll it out. Right. So now, the problem is there was all this massive theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of historic and important pieces by again to celebrated American architects. Nobody said boo about this. Why wouldn't the university report the theft to police why Ryan get the public's help in recovering the irreplaceable pieces. Well, here's the other thing if not the police their insurance company. Yeah. I mean, somebody has got to know about this. So it remained a secret this this theft until last summer, and according to the LA times someone's conscience appeared to have been prodded by listing at a Chicago auction. It actually sells textile block from the Samuel Freeman house in Los Angeles. That's the one that was designed by by ripe by Frank Lloyd Wright, and it's a very specific tile that has designed cut into it. And what they're saying is that the sixteen inch square had some discoloration 's proving that it was in fact, part of the house it had been out in the elements for a long time that one piece of block sold for five thousand dollars, the university is blamed the six and a half year delay of. Reporting this on Carmen police veto on miscommunication between employees. Yeah. Got it. US's is fully cooperating with the police probe and it's going to pursue its own internal investigation. Akin again, this was discovered missing in two thousand and twelve a facilities staffer who went to that warehouse notice that those things were missing two thousand twelve on January twenty second two weeks ago campus police finally filed a report with the LAPD identifying those three specific items. The university is reviewing its procedures and security measures related to the Freeman house and its assets. Now, this again is on the heels of what has been a particularly dark time for public relations officers in that USA. It's another case of USC looking the other way because of the almighty dollar and the reputation hit it was going to take their fingerprints are going to be nothing forensic techniques are all going to be you know, there's there's very little use for any sort of that type of investigation, but the, but the official statement from the school is it appears unlikely that there was only one key. But we do expect that to be part of the investigation. Well, coming up next the Jesse smollet mystery continues who are the guys that attacked him in Chicago. And he returns to West Hollywood and performs and is weighing in some more on what he says happened to him last week. Gary and Shannon will continue. Just a moment. Amy king has an update. The brain-breaking backstory to the 'House on a Rock'
"Today. We wrote about a place called the house on the rock. It's a tourist spot about an hour west of medicine, Wisconsin open to the public in nineteen fifty nine and Ashley and I have both been there separately. And just wow, it's I cannot explain it to anyone and we're going to try do you like it? I love it. It takes four hours to get through the whole thing. And when you exit you feel like your brain has turned to mush did you have that experience I came out and angry person hated every second Theo's there. It is a nightmare. Oh my God. I couldn't handle it. So you're going to get two very different very different experiences. From from Ashley here's the history of the house on the rock, or at least what we know about it. It was built by a guy named Alex Jordan junior, but his origins are a bit mysterious in some versions of the story. He started his project is kind of a spite house after he had an unpleasant encounter with the legendary architect. Frank, Lloyd Wright, and Frank Lloyd Wright had an iconic home about ten minutes away from the house on the rock in other versions of the story. Jordan had more vague explanation for his creation, quote, one thing just sort of led to another unquote either way, Alex Jordan lived there for about fifty years, the house sits on deer shelter rock, which is a massive stone column that rises up from the Woodland's all around it. The mansion contains fourteen rooms and they get progressively weirder. And when we save room talking about like your living room, some of these rooms are really very large. He started enlarge comfortable rooms filled with massive, fireplaces and chandeliers hanging over dimly lit chambers. Then the quote unquote, adventure begins the affinity room is next and it sets the tone for the rest of the experience. This is the room. I thought was kind of cool simple cool. It's two hundred eighteen feet long and tapers to a single point one hundred fifty six feet above the forest floor. So it creates the illusion that the walls extend into attorney picture, basically, a long triangle jotting out from this house and the point of the triangle is just hanging with no support just in the middle of the air above a forest, which is kind of terrifying. So then you go deeper into the house and you'll find a massive indoor carousel aglow with twenty thousand lights and one hundred eighty two chandeliers, then there's the anti gun collection the music of yesterday room filled with old fashioned instruments and automated musical devices and the Dollhouse room boasting literally thousands of miniature figures among the cannonball powered clock. And the two story. Rube Goldberg machine, you cannot tell what's real. And what isn't here's another fund? Fact, the house claims the indoor carousel is the largest carousel on the world. But the truth behind that is unclear at best some of the NT guns in the anti gun collection are real, but others are just guns. Alex Jordan had made in an old fashioned style. And I'm just going to put this out there Ashleigh, why is there a two hundred foot long seem monster hovering above a gigantic room. Among literally, hundreds of model ships and looking glasses and other nautical fem- stuff to break, your brain. Of course, it is crane breaking so possibly the most bizarre place you'll ever see. Maybe a love it. Maybe it'll be a living nightmare. Please. Let us know. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
