"Let's look at a few divisions starting with the nfl east specifically with the circus. That is my new york vets. Now a heavier buyers and other players have been giving a thumbs down to fans in response to being booed and by his recently talked about this. If we win together then we we gotta lose together you know and and defense i really big part of it so In my case they got gotta be better by isn't francisco. Indoor did apologize for the thumbs. Down gestures on tuesday but joe looking back at the beginning. What was your reaction to all this drama new york when it first unfolded. I feel so sorry if you just what. It's like to be a mets fan. It's just what what why why why to put that burden on yourself. I just have to ask. I don't know here to me. Is how i sort of sum up this crazy mets here. They go out before the season and they get francisco endore who is absolutely one of the most joyful wonderful players in baseball a guy that just everybody adored then they go out during the season and they got havi by who is one of the most wonderful joy as players in baseball player that everybody indoors and now they're both terrible and they both have bad attitudes and then again it's like what are the mets. Do how do they do that. So fast they just wreck wreck not only players but joyful players i mean hobby biases like giving thumbs. Down's to the fans. I mean what the heck is going on there. It's crazy and and i don't even know if the players fully appreciate the irony of what it's like to watch a player hit a home run then give thumbs down. You know just like well. I'm doing it for the fans. Yeah but you're kind of doing it to yourself to. It really feels like really strange. And they've fallen apart. I mean i don't know how they turn it around at this point adding they're going to run away with that division but i thought they were going to secure it. I mean they were pretty much all year and while it has taken a bad turn. I'll tell you. I just missed the days when the controversy was between whether they saw a raccoon or a rat in the locker room or whatever it may have been. Yeah i mean what. The great thing is with the mets. You can always go back to some wonderful piece of history of you know somebody throwing firecrackers but you know. There's always something with the mets but this one is a real collapse. Well whether the mets have been in free-fall from i third the atlanta braves had taken over. I while winning eighteen of twenty four games heading into tuesday and they've done it without their young superstar ronald kunia junior. So what's been the key to their turnaround in your eyes. Well look. I think this is what we sort of expected from them. I mean i thought they were the class of that division before the season began. I think most people did it surprising. That had happened so late and it surprising that had happened after kunia got hurt right. I mean that's a really really good team. I mean they've got the defending mvp and fritzy freeman and a bunch of good pitchers so you kind of thought that they were going to do this all year and they just were so mediocre for so long but that team is too good and even without a kunio and that lineup just pretty deep big fastball. Featured violates l. I then that rotation with more than read and those guys. They're pretty good. So i see them pulling away. I don't think there's anybody in the division that's going to catch them but we'll see i mean frankly it's probably the phillies that have the best shot and phillies team is probably second. Only to the mets and dysfunction. So i think the braves probably have clear sailing over in the nfl west the giants as we record this. Have the best record in baseball. But the dodgers are lurking a game and a half out heading into tuesday meaning. The giants are dangerously close to falling into the wild card game. So do the giants have enough to hold on. And how tense do you think. Things are for fans in san francisco. Well i hope they're not too tense because all of this has to be just a joyful surprise to them. I mean nobody thought that giants team was going to be competing like this and that isn't certainly forget. Having the best record i mean. I don't think anybody thought that they could keep up with the dodgers or the padres coming into the year. So they've been a shock. I think they've been baseball's best surprise. Base the fastest runner to third juggle china. Can they hold on. I'm shocked. They held on this long. I mean not. Just because i thought they were gonna fall off. I mean i just feel like the dodgers are head shoulders above everybody else baseball right now. And the dodgers are pretty much playing their head and shoulders over everybody else except the giants who have somehow someway just kept going and going and going with a very. You know veteran team or old team. If you want to say it that way you'd have to believe that. The dodgers were so favorites to win that division even though they've been trailing for whatever now three months two months i still think there the favorite to win and i think the giants probably are more likely to be a wildcard but if i'm a giants fan i'm celebrating it. You just make the playoffs with this team. I don't think even the most optimistic giants fan could have been that optimistic that this was going to happen this year. Well the padres. Meanwhile are getting an absolutely incredible season from fernando tattoos junior when he's on the field thirty six home runs and twenty four steals in just one hundred games on to breaking ball hit along with a deep left center field. That ball is back. It's gone to run home. Run four fernando shooters thirty six year and his amazing feats aside. This padres team has been struggling lately. Their division lead in may seems like a long time ago and now they're trying to earn a wildcard spot. But what's gone wrong. Wow a lot and frankly there's a negative surprise out there. It's probably them. I mean not that. They've had a bad year. They're still a well. Over five hundred. And i still think are the favorites to make the wildcard. You know the reds are a wonderful story. But i think the padres are probably a better team but it is been surprising for the last month. They've been very very mediocre in their issues or they're having stretches whether or not scoring any runs why the center of the desert said i tyler. Yogurt has no hit the padres. Third no hitter in diamondbacks franchise history. And he does it. In his first joy start credible their rotation has been not quite as good as they were hoping yu. Darvish has been a little bit off like snell hasn't been quite what they hoped you would be so i mean there are a few things happening there. That's still really really good team. And we should say. I mean t's has been hurt a lot that is really disruptive because i don't think there's a more impactful player in the game right now than fernando to tease. Not only his extraordinary numbers. He's just when he's the lineup. That's just a completely different team. So if he stays healthy. Like i say they're a threat there. A real threat i think. We'll meanwhile in the american league another team that was underperforming was the yankees but that team has completely turned it around as of late narrowing the division lead and passing the red sox with the help of a thirteen game win. Streak ninth china franchise situa-. They've had a thirteen game winning streak and the first time since nineteen sixty one candy water. So what's gone right in the bronx. I don't wanna talk about it. I i talk about good yankee. No there another team like the braves where this is who we thought they were. I mean we thought that really really good team coming in thought. They were real world series. Contender they'd been wildly underperforming particularly not scoring any runs which was very strange to see. And you know what happens is the giancarlo stanton gets hot centerfield to one.

Francisco Lindor: New Hope For Mets Fans?

"For a big splash. A big domino to tip over and the mlb off season and we got one yesterday. The new york. Mets acquired francisco lindores and carlos carrasco from the cleveland indians for two shortstops in two minor leaguers and enormous transaction. How surprised are you that this happened not surprised at all. Buster olney is the host of the baseball tonight partly cast and he has been covering baseball for more than three decades. Look the last few years there had been so much industry speculation about when would the indians trade lynn door. In fact a couple of years ago. Paul dolan their owner told that the fan base look. Enjoy while you can. Because it was an assumption he was going to be traded. I think if not for the pandemic he would have been traded in the middle of last summer so the indians move in now and the fact that the mets were the buyers. That's not surprising either. Because i think mets fans have been waiting for Steve owns team to to make a big move and he certainly did that. And getting the best shortstop in baseball. Yeah i want to ask you about the cleveland side of the equation in a little bit. But i i wanna dive into the buyer that you mentioned because steve cohn buster. The mets new owner hedge fund billionaire self identifying proudly so diehard mets fan from long island. He's been on twitter. I'll off season making very loud noises about this being a new different kind of organization. You know we want to be excellent in all areas of this game That's going to require resources. And i'm fully committed to making that happen. He is so monumentally. Wealthy i mean he was one of the few people who didn't lose money in this pandemic shortened twenty twenty season. So what does this tell you about the promise of his regime yeah. He's the richest owner in baseball. Now and i. I wrote a piece Free espn dot com. That for mets fans who have suffered through their. Ptsd of the wilpon. Yes this is that the finally they get their reward were they have an owner. Who's willing to go toe to toe with the yankees owner. Who bills a team. That has continued success. I don't just want to get into the playoffs. I want to win a championship. You know through the years. Since i've been working in the new york market the assumption whenever a really big name came up. Was that the yankees. Probably elbow the mets out of the way and they would get the players in the in. The mets would operate like an upper middle class team rather than a big market team and this deal signals a change in that. But what i do believe. Is this a major markelle tune during the should have a budget to measure with the yankees coulda used shortstop. There are other big market teams. That could use a shortstop. And the mets get the best shortstop so because you are a veteran of the new york market i need to know how is indoor going to help reshape. Just the identity of the team itself because i mean nolan reported future about him. We'll get to that a bit as well but just how good is he. What's potential here well. He's the perfect player for the mets right. Now he's an elite defensive shortstop smash back can't buy off-balance throw in recent years jacob. Degrom has been great. Despite the fact that mets have been really poor on defense. It's shorts especially they need more lineup. Ballots lindores a switch hitter. They could use more power drill door with law. Law door hits for power. They could use speed lindores does that. He looked like the road runner as he took off from first base and he absolutely has the personality to be the face of a franchise in new york. "Fears comes in in the fourth or fifth spot in the rotation things out Quickly you guys have any thoughts on this or some of the other names that the bluejays jays have been mentioned in this week i think overall the blue jays are just doing what they've been doing all offseason. Anybody that can improve the team or addresses a need is going to be looked at. Mike myers is interesting Like you said mark probably would be a back end of the rotation type starter. Not a bad option. The fifth starter is kind of the one position where the blue jays kind of expected somebody to audition for it. Now we were looking at guys. Like anthony k Whatnot they could. Whoever performs the best in spring training gets that fifth spot whereas in the third spot. It's probably gonna be somewhere external or from an external source from assigning or a trade but with fires. I it's interesting. He could take up your fifth starter. I mean he is thirty five so you know might only be a year maybe to something something like that. Maybe kind of do it. Matt shoemaker did but overall the blue jays are just you know they're looking at everybody and it's not about a bad thing to have all your options available but overall. I think it's hard to say if a deal is likely because again looked at everybody but it would he be a good option for the blue jays wouldn't be a bad option. I'll put it that way Might fires is interesting. What is well. I kind of reminds me of mark what we brought up last week with gary richards kind of like the same caliber of a player. Kind of almost like a fallback option. But when i think of mike fires. I assume the famous whistle blower from the astros scandal. twenty seventeen. But you know he's he's a decent pitcher he's a good you know he'd be a good back into the rotation Option a kind of a good fallback option. I'm sure i don't know if you guys have also seen this. But a report came from an hour ago that the mets actually approached the blue jays about a stephen match straight. I don't know if you guys saw that The jays didn't seem overly i it. Just i guess the asking price wasn't there but kind of interesting how that was also or the mets kind of approach. The jays about that is there kind of the. Mets are shopping. Stephen matt so i guess. The jays didn't budge on that. Or maybe discussions are ongoing but I guess that's another potential name around the league. Who could be traded by the winter meetings or traded by spring training I like these players. This is why. I like the amount of interest they have is. Because of something doesn't happen they can fall back to these other names Garages again was one of them. Who were was discussed last week. And of course the mike fires rumors are just approaching right now. And we'll see what happens with that. We'll see we'll see what happens with them. Other players may be Within the organizations while who left last year late guy matt shoemaker taiwan walker and i said lots of options but mike fires wouldn't be a bad option A good fallback option for the back end of the rotation and the stephen matt's report from an hour ago interested me a little bit but it doesn't seem like that is going to go anywhere at this time but I don't know if you guys had any other thoughts other names..

"So it'll be interesting to see but i'm still all four francisco. Indoor okay. I see where you're coming from person. I get that the blue jays half to go for an upgrade. This offseason get that. They're being aggressive in the half to being aggressive given what they want to accomplish but at the same time what they have to give up for a single year. A single guaranteed deer a francisco. Lindor i just don't think it's worth it like if this was a player who's under contract for more than one season..

"So if you trade gurriel than you're going to need an outfielder and many rumors over the last couple of weeks. Talked about. George springer guided. The bluejays are interested in. Yeah i mean that's somebody that you could replace him with. But again i i. It's possible but i just. I don't think it necessarily needs to happen soon. At least right now. I what i wanna see. The blue jays do is focused on the parts of the team. Like i keep saying that need immediate fixing. They need another starting pitcher. You can argue that. They need more relief pitchers as we saw with. Aj cole he is he's been non tendered congeals out for the entire season next year. So there are aspects of the team. That are not kind. They're not complete for twenty twenty one. I don't think that just trading for someone like francisco indoor who is a good player but it's just it's it's not what i think the jays needs to do right now. It's it's not something of immediate focus although he is a good player. But it's just there. I i think this is the problem. Bluejays are kind of casting a wide net over so many players and they've kind of just forgot about the aspects of the team that actually do need to be fixed rather than just all these players are available and we should just get whoever we need. Because that's just as we've seen bring this up a little bit. But i think possibly trying to get so many players unfortunately going to hurt the blue jays but yeah just don't wanna see francisco indoor to the blue jays. Yeah you guys know that. I am all for this and i still am all for this for francisco indoor I just think you know for the basic word of upgrade. If you bring francisco indoor you are a better baseball team and yes. The infield is set right now but you. You made a key point. Jacob new said that cabbie was interchangeable and that is pasta and that is correct because can be can play multiple positions and he can play the outfield. And if you wanna have a better team in the lineup and francisco endure is available. I think that trading preferences school endure is something that you should widely consider. Especially because i believe that he is a better player than pretty much laura's guerrilla junior and others who would be package but the problem that comes with it of course as contract He has to get paid. He's going to be a free agent at the end of two thousand twenty one. So that's the other. That's pretty much the part holding back if there's a way you can bring 'em over. Sign him because pretty much. She just wants to get paid right now. I just. I still don't see how you don't do that You know like you said jacob if you trade. Someone laura's gurriel junior You know there are replacements and cabbies. You could be one of them. Who could play the outfield. And of course. There is the george springer rumors by you know. You also made the point that they should be focusing on other aspects. Which i'm sure they are. Just because you're focused on one doesn't mean you're not focus on pitching. They can easily be doing both. We know that the one the keyword that's been used this offseason so far is that the team will be aggressive and just because they're focused sunlen door. It doesn't mean that they aren't focused on pitching behind the scenes because quite frankly none of us know what the heck they're thinking right now other than the pretty much interested in a ton of players in a number of players. Many of those players are also pitchers. We went through this last week. Mark took We spoke about garrett richards. We've we've been speaking about others. We've been speaking about others..

"Deficit ninety five. Second one thirty eight. I'm your host mark collie as always. I'm joined by pricing and jacob. How're you guys did. Tastic how are you. I'm pretty good. And we have jacob back with us after a week off last week. How are you jacob. I'm happy to be back. You enjoy your vacation was busy. Well well you were gone. I know if you heard. But apparently rogers wants to demolish rogers Yeah you probably heard about that. But there's other news this week coming out the biggest piece of news that we got and i guess the thing that will start it off with came yesterday out of cleveland. We heard that. The cleveland baseball team would quote love on quote to trade Francisco lindor to the blue jays in a deal involving lord.'. Goyal junior We that these two teams were potential trade partners. But this is kind of the first picture we got of an actual firm deal potentially coming through so right off the bat. I want to get your thoughts on this. I know you talked a little bit about it in our group but francisco lindor for lawrence correo junior. Plus i'm assuming a couple prospects. Would you do it all right. I'm going to start often. Say i do not want this deal to be made. Not because i don't think francisco lindores a good player. But i he's not with the blue jays need right now and i know bracing you said to me that francisco. Indoor improves the team and that is true. I mean he is a very good player but there are aspects of the team that i think need to be worked on right now before they go and ad Not unnecessary but they. They improve on parts of the team. That are already good. And i mean we saw this year with guys like bijou. They're pretty much going to stay in the infield bijou's interchangeable but if left just natural processes he's going to stay in the infield and just. I don't think we need to really improve on that. Yes technically improvements are possible. But i just i like the infield right now. And plus we've got guys like austin martin enjoy groshans who are only a couple of years away who is gonna just are just gonna add to the complexities of this crowded field. So i don't think that a guy like francisco indoor is needed. I mean he like. I said he's good. He would improve the team. But i think there are other things. That should be should be focused on right now before you just go and improve on aspects of the team. That are already good. I mean there's a big hole in the in the starting rotation. There's only i mean we have review and pearson we have tanner Robbie ray but other than that. I mean the fifth starters kind of just going to be whoever takes it in spring training but there needs to be a third starter and i think there's parts of the team that do need to be improved upon before you just kind of improve on other aspects that are already good and Also one of the things that. I kind of a little confused on about this deal. Potential deal is the fact that lord juniors outfielder and francis school indoors and infielder..

"Will maybe no. After these qualifying offers are decided on. Does that change your opinion on how the yankees should approach this offseason. Because there's other guys that they've been you know we didn't mention charlie morton and our off season plans and other was vesting option on his contract that i guess is not gonna get kicked in But he's a free agent Balsamo think i think a lot of these free agents that are happening right now when we were talking about this. I mean so much happened in a week. We probably should have waited a week but the fact that there were so many offers that were not accepted or not. They were not picked up at all. There are no coughing offers. Were not not not well. You mean you're talking about your options. We're not picked up on the options. Yeah team option. They were picking. It's been the no one. Has six players received qualifying offers. I don't think anyone has said yes or no yet but two years ago a look it up. All of those vesting options are probably picked up Two to three years ago. They're picked up the like but like we talked about chris archer less lhasa. Apso see going to be getting them. He hasn't been good. I you can't put martin Same category at all been early. Morton has been mourns. Morton's wasn't a team option. It was a vesting option. Which so he he. He didn't reach the qualifications to get his option. Picked up. okay. I thought there was a team. There was some team decision within that within that point anyway so i guess bauer has rejected the quote ridiculous. Qualifying offer just said the so. This is the year. This is the era in this the that robbie ray contractors assigned to me that these these deals are not going to be where these guys think they are. So ed so. They're going to do two things they're going to try to get one your deal and then what wait to the. Why but why are you gonna say a one year deal right now. You want to send a multi right. That's thank but the one year deal. Just happen to eight million dollars for a guy. Like robbie ray i know robbie ray is not the talent bar that anybody wants to see but he is a bar somewhere and by looking at that eight million dollars okay. Rut robbie ray two years ago. Probably get a if he sends a one year deal probably close to seventeen eighteen million dollars close to that i'd say right average have got so eight million dollars. That's insanely low when you look at that. That means why we're at the yankees in on robbery rape because speakers you know what they saw that and they're like i don't robbie ray power because it's like when you see something on sale. You're like that couldn't possibly be good. Yeah well you look at that. What else is on sale. If that's on sale that that the the the car that i've been looking for okay that things are going shopping. You might as well go for the high stuff and and go to tj maxx and get something that's named named brand. Don't don't don't settle for the generic shit. Go get trevor. Bauer now and pay pennies on the dollar for a multi year deal. Now he's only ever. Yeah we've never seen so we've seen in when free agency has been out of wack. We've seen guys like robbie race very million bucks. Maybe a guy like Ahsan we'll sign stock assigned these guys but then the top guys still get what they're worth. 'cause you're still you're still trevor. Bauer yourself cy young. there's a lot of. There's a lot of of haziness around. Trevor bauer enough to to not be that confident to be there. There are things to doubt when it comes to him. So i'll tell you this if trevor bauer and subsiding somewhere for a discount repairs if the yankees weren't there the thing i mean sure you don't know what i it wouldn't surprise me if it was up to a one year deal and he's already teased this. You would on your forty million taiwan because if you're one of these guys this year you're like well there might be a lockout. After next year. They might neither side. Could get unsafe. Page signed the one year her pop next year. Dj lem who take that one year qualifying offer. I just wanna play. I just i just need to put some. I black on and and field some grounders. I'm going to japan baby. Yeah so there's going to be an interesting market but The i think the savvy gm's are going to be poised and ready to go for this this strange market and if i'm looking for signs just that's that's i see a new market. I'm looking for signs in which it's going to go so i can try to be ready for all directions but but also tried to make calculated Guesses on on the way things might go and looking at trends. And when i see that. I contract side. Eight million dollars for a guy that's been relatively coveted at the trade deadline for the past four years. That's a sign that we're not seeing big deal. I saw an at in a small market. So one thing. I wanna go back to. That thought small-market a medium size market saw smaller. Get to the question that i meant to mention so alex said can we move. Dj first base. Where do you stand on that. Because that doesn't really get the most value out of deejay lemay yet. I know but here. Here's one of the things that that you've mentioned quite often about first baseman at this conversation has happened. A lot with within the topic of gary sanchez. Gary sanchez value behind the behind. The plate with his offense. Is you theoretically used to be out of this world right. He's the best offensive purely hypothetical. So we're talking about gary sanchez the best offensive catcher. When you move into a different position now those those offensive numbers. Don't look as good when you compare them when you compare him to first baseman right compared to d. h. Is it's not the same. I feel like we need to get away from this model because this model to be does not make a lot of sentinels. That's okay so that's not where i was. Go but right now where we are today. "Do you think there's a psychological thing with with labor or with player ex. I'm the shortstop of the new york yankees that could affect me negatively. If i put too much pressure on myself versus being the second baseman for the new york yankees. I guess from the outside in you could you could say that. I don't think that's a big deal. I think that if you're a starting player for the new york yankees. That's that's where you are. I mean gleyber played second base year before that. So he's she seen. I don't think he played shortstop in the first half of twenty nineteen right 'cause but but it was a temporary thing and it was known to be a temporary thing because didi now i'm not even going down the rabbit hole a real high. It's not a real thing. It's a talking point for anybody but it's not a real thing it's not a real professional athletes not a real thing. Oh i think some professional athletes that would get in their head definitely. Okay not here not. This is not a thing for labor. At all i do not. I mean some guys are softest puppy poo. We know that he's not one of them. Well if you did trade for lindahl he would obviously be the shortstop and glacier would move back to second base. so where does that leave lemay. Does that mean lemay. Who's not signed as alex said in this question. Is that a situation now. Where you're looking to trade voight. Are you looking to trade. Gio what you doing because we all want. Dj back if we if they acquire. Lynn door i don't imagine they're going to be trading away labor in that trade because i look at what the red sox gave or excuse me what the red sox got for. Mookie betts last year. I know that included. David david prices contract. So that's a big reason. But i don't think at this point. The indians are going to be able to demand like top three prospects in the organization for indoor no because of the. It's because of the contract you cannot it's it's a it's a. It's a rental at this point. It's the same same conversation we were happening with about lance. Lynn walsh doing our gm plans. It's the same. It's the same problem when you're a team trying to trade a player that only has one left on their contract. It's a rental you you asking for the sky with long-term players and prospects doesn't make sense and you're just not gonna get it in return especially especially now when everybody is scrutinizing the price of contracts and never has there been a time when young players controlled players are more valuable to an organization and and and how to build so. I think that that price is going to get harder and harder and harder to get to To get rid of cross to get prospects from other teams that have the potential to be in the in the major leagues because those are so valuable to a team because of the way that the contracts are structured and then arbitration. they're just they're very team friendly When it comes to the contract so if you have a guy that you believe in it's going to have to be a hell hell of a load to get rid of him. Yeah yeah so. Wh- what do you think about the idea of trading voight sell kind of concept i am sell hyphen look void just led the league in home runs. Played through foot stuff. Did in what i love. I love void in in the way that he played and And he's got the he he's he's he's turned into a very good player You could you could. You could definitely argue though that this would be the time to trade him because he's arbritration so we we mentioned on the gm episode. He's going to be one of the soup players so he's arbitration. I think under for four years. Four years of team. Control yep Yeah through his prime so when he's done with arbitration he's kinda done 'cause he's gonna be thirty three at the end of his arbitration. Yes and yes. So i would not surprise me if they were to if they were to trade void at this point to be honest. Oh what do you get for a first baseman. Who can't really play for space. Because because i don't know the. I don't know if the value is there on a trading standpoint four first baseman. Yeah it does feel like they're a bit more of a A a common time these guys yet. I wouldn't say diamond dozen. I was looking for a better way to put that. That's the first came to my head. And i said that's not fair. Well it's easier. It's easier to find a first baseman. Who can hit a bunch of home runs especially in today's game. Yeah the homeless shortstop or an outfielder who can play great defense as well or obviously a premium defensive position which. I thought. I'll just say this. Chris carter was the homerun king in the national league. Yeah how did he do that. It s carter with the juice bars carter. Actually that still requires contests. Victory fifty plus home runs. I believe right is over fifty. I think he hit fifty plus fifty that means he closes his eyes and made contact fifty times and to well. Maybe but that's unbelievable. That's some amazing. It's like using the force to hit the ball. It's one of the more amazing feats in baseball history. I agree so when you look at the value and the dimaggio's fifty six game heading streak chris. Carter carter headed. Ted williams hitting zero and chris carter hitting fifty home runs with his eyes. Closed the yeah so that stat when it comes. The first baseman i think is is is not as valued When annul seven home runs this home runs. Everyone's hitting home rice if you're if you're opposing. Gm like oh you're gonna trade me a first baseman who hits a lot of home runs. Guess what i have. Seven of those in my minor league system and while while playing through injury is one of those fanned fared things. You appreciate the player that much more. Because he's doing these things. It's not a a notch up on your value when you're being shopped across the league. It's not one of those like well. How is this why was why did he have the foot stuff. So the foot so in twenty eighteen nineteen offseason. When paul goldschmidt was traded from the the diamondbacks and said the cardinals to the cardinals to the cardinals. It's really confusing because there's arizona in play there just like come on so he didn't. They didn't really get much for. What was their satisfied. Was he a euro because he signed contract with the with yes. But here's arguably the best. I mention in baseball. Yeah oh for sure. He's having all around all around player. All around player which void is not right. so i don't know what void could garner you in a trade. So i plugged it into the baseball trade value. And they acquired they with the with the way. The indians are though brooke before you get the analysis of the trade as far as the fairness or whatever the weight of the trade. I think the indians earn a place. And they've done this in the past where they trade away assets but they they they want to get prospects in return but at the same time they don't want to diminish the field the play on the field they wanna diminish it as little as they possibly can and they've done a pretty decent job doing that to be honest because if the indians like oh we have a pitching staff. That can compete. So why are we gonna just totally punt not going to do that. Bright so if you can get a major league player like a guy like lugovoi is a is a is a necessity in a deal like that..

"And i felt the earthquake. I quick ever felt my life the building. It felt like a train was going straight through the middle of the building and it felt like if now the you know it's earthquake. We we've as far as yankees topics go. We got a few things talk about. We got mailbag questioned. Couple of weeks ago from alex and i thought this is a good jumping off point for today. He says i thought it was crazy. When mark to share said trade voight to move. Dj first fulltime and move glacier back to second and signed didi beck however what do you think about. Trade centered around voight to make a play for francisco lindor. The indians this week said francisco. Lindor is on the trading block even though we already knew he was on the trading block. I guess they made it official or notified teams or whatever the hell needed happen. But he's on the trading block. What do you think well what are first of. All what are your. What's your what's your take on What's your take on trading francisco indoor. Because i think we both agree. He's a great player. But what's your take on the yankees being in on franscisco indoor I i don't. I don't have a problem with it by any means i mean i think friend francisco lindor while he didn't have a very good season. This past year is a damn good ballplayer. A i throw this past season away. Doesn't really mean much to me. Good or bad to be honest. In some cases i mean case by case you can look at certain things but Yeah i think they. I think they should absolutely investigate. And see what. The prices an- identify What the risk reward is see what the With the return is what they would have to give up all of the above. They should be very as brian. Cashman does melissa as talks about doing every year. They're gonna look at every situation they're gonna assess it and then identify if it's a fit or not fit and i think there should. This should not be an exception. They've done business with the cleveland indians in the past Seems like a should continue to do that. Does your opinion on this change at all because labor did not have very good season. No again i throw that away again for for a i would throw glacier in the in the In my camp of. I don't really look at that as a huge negative at this point. But if you're constructing the yankees infield for the next five to ten years because if you tried to franscisco endure. I know i know. He's a free agent after next year. But the idea wouldn't be just have francisco. Indoor for twenty twenty one it would be signed franciscan. Let me rephrase that. I am not looking at him as a as a. I don't look at what happened. This year as a as a negative towards glacier by any means in the grand scheme of how i like them as a player that does not mean that that i i have no i i i am not making century now. I have no problem. Moving him. position was him rolling. Back to second base does not bother me like aqua is it. It does not bother me so so. I think that if if if the cards went A certain way this off season and there was an opportunity to acquire a shortstop. Then you should look at that so i. I don't think it's a problem by any means moving him at there's no there's nothing saying that. He should be entrenched at shortstop. Nothing because nothing he did this. Your says that umaga shortstop so it doesn't if you want to throw out the offensive numbers from labor this year which were basically league average. He hit two forty three with a three fifty six on base. Three sixty eight slugging which was much lower than his slugging was expected to be. Because the dude hit. What was it. Thirty eight home runs last year. Hit three this year. He had a one oh six. Wrc plus so he. He's a league. He was a league average hitter. This year fine. You want to throw that out. i'm with you. You're going to throw out the defense. Because i don't know if we can do that. Yeah no no so. The defense is not. It's concerning but at the same time. I'm not ready to kill him or give up on him by any means for that. I think that But isn't it fair to question if he's shortstop not just long-term but near-term defensively defensive for some he's a he's shown he showed much better than he was this year in the past as well so and i think that the when you look scouting reports. They had him as a natural shortstop for a very long time for the all all the way through. So i know but we had a conversation towards the end of the regular season before the playoffs. Would the yankees actually consider Defensive replacement for gleyber. Look the reason this conversation is happening is because of two things lindores available on the trade market and then dee becomes a free agent again after that one year contract so you have to shortstops. That can play the position you could. You could say that you could look back at Dvd's last year with the yankees. He was not good shortstop in the field as well but he's a better. We all know a better player than that Same with offensive he was. He was a bigger sample size with didi at shortstop with seeing it. And that's that's part of the reason. Why i'm not giving up on young kid like i'm not. I'm not looking at cova year as the euro. I'm gonna d'amato destroy his. You know his defense. Where i'm going to look the other way for his offense it's convenient. That's not what i'm gonna do. I don't think that's fair to the player either..

"The sports so very very unclear of a future, but it's just you know you want Through one thing at a time but there's so much uncertainty. Like I said, who knows where we are throughout the United States in particular and I guess with Canada with the Jays being allowed to play her or not where we are home February next march maybe a vaccine maybe things change fans may be back. But you know in terms of that the CBA will be expiring at the end of next year and it's it worries me that it things just going to be ugly again or it's going to get to a point where it is ugly. Unfortunately, none of us can guarantee that it's going to be a smooth ride or none of us can guarantee their whatever be a lot go to a player strike. Unfortunately, that's not the case, but they you would hate to see that and I think After experiencing the backlash and the problems that the owners and players had is that this sport this sport can't afford a lockdown or a player strike it cannot I cannot go through any of that a league stoppage any of that. It would not be good for the sport and I think we saw that this year. Like I said, the quality of the games have been keeping people interested and a lot of us have forgotten about the previous month. Past few months between the owners and players. I think it actually is kind of good the backlash that the owners and the Commissioners got from everybody because I think it does show that you know baseball is not completely dead people, you know, they want it to exist. They you know, I wanted to to keep watching the Blue Jays, you know, it's it's fun to watch baseball, you know, it's fun to play. It's fun to you know interact with people that also like to talk about it. So I think you know, that's definitely a good sign. I mean not a good sign that we had to react but the fact that people did react in such a way shows that they care you mentioned bring the Blue Jays coming back to Toronto. I that's going to be very tough to figure out because of the situation with you know, the the phone second wave. I think we can call it now in Ontario where they're reporting, you know, six seven eight nine hundred new positive cases each day, and unfortunately, I don't think that's going to suck. Until there's some type of vaccine because you know as Premier Doug forcett. He's not really willing to shut down all the businesses that he had to shut down in the in the spring and in the summer because people can't afford it. You know there there's only so much time that go by where you're consistently, you know paying bills, but you don't have any Revenue, you know, there's a few restaurants that I loved that unfortunately he's gone permanently now and you know, I I don't think Doug Ford's willing to do that again and I don't think that he's I mean the Ontario government was the one that was willing to let the Blue Jays play in Toronto was the federal government that we have to remember is the one that said no, but I feel like at the current state obviously, there's still many months before a regular season has to happen. But as of right now I think you know a lot of things are going to have to go right if the Blue Jays may be able to play in Toronto because first of all, I don't think any Gatherings are going to be restricted are going to be allowed. I think right now it's back to your only allowed two people be with people with a yawn household. So, you know twenty thousand thirty thousand people, you know, there's not that many people in my house. So that doubt the Rogers Centre is going to be as populated but Yeah, there's a lot of things that need to be dealt with that need to be figured out before the start of next season. Obviously, like we said the the fact that this was handled so poorly and the fact that everybody you know, who's playing baseball and instead of keeping players safe. There were so many distractions really that the owners were focused on more. So it's like you said, it's definitely not over, you know, this almost reminds me of you know, as a kid if you were to get in trouble at a party and your mom says just wait till we get home and you get you know, once you get punished in some way, you know, it's definitely not sure. I follow the analogy there's a lot of things I think I know you I think I think you're saying like it this season pass this season was kind of just a a stopgap. It was just kind of for show and then the real the the real rubber meeting the road is going to be this Thursday. In terms of Labor. Am I interpreting that right? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, this this season it was great to have it, you know, but oh, yeah, once the dust settles there's definitely a lot of Life three people. Okay, that makes sense. Yeah. I hope the one lesson that major league baseball and the Players Association have learned from.

"But even a Oscar hand is he obviously we know he can do all offensively but even he had some struggles offensive or defensively I don't think they're going to move him to be completely honest. I think they like what they seen him. I've liked him ever since he came over from Houston. So it'll be interesting, you know did not want to do they do they want to keep their young guys like Gary Allan Hernandez, maybe go for a center fielder, but even that I think they have off the top of my head, I think grichuk has three years. Are two years left on his deal or something like that. So I mean even Outfield, you know, I don't know. This offseason if they would make too many movies, but I mean they they still could I mean obviously there's still room for improvement but it would be interesting to see you know, how eager are they to trade guys like grichuk or may I don't think they I think it was pretty much Untouchable especially with his control and the fact that he's only making I think less than seven million or whatever it is out of the calculation off the top of my head, but he he don't think he's going anywhere so it'll be interesting to see how or if they want to make the improvements now or even in a couple of years when somebody like critics up his contracts up if they want to, you know trade for somebody or use him as trade bait, but I don't know. I mean, it's I think position players. Like I said, obviously there's always room for improvement in certain areas, but it'd be interesting to see if they even made a move in the Outfield off to try and get another high-impact Defender. I think because I mean offensively I think they have the projections if the projections are right. I think they'll have a lot of great offensive Talent dog. To be interesting to see how they handle that. Do they want to you know, maybe do what they did 2015 get a guy like Ben Revere who can lead off but I mean even that we saw bichette and Biggio hitting one and two pretty much all the time so long, you know offensively. I think they have a very good team or at least one that's expected to be very good. So be interesting to see how they they handle that type of situation. So I mean, but overall I think pitching is probably like I said, the the biggest wage need of the team, but we'll see how they they want to approach the position players or if somebody's not doing well, you know, maybe they have a short rope or shortly after these guys, but I'm not sure it'll be definitely I don't envy that position because it's definitely very confusing even as somebody that watches all the games and it's just it's it can get tough to see yeah R and not just in terms of the salary of your ass wondering Jacob. So Randal grichuk is set to make 9.33 million dollars next year with a signing bonus of 1 million and Lourdes gurriel is making three wage. And a half million dollars that comes with the bonus just under 500k. So Korea has also pre arbitration-eligible so that he's going to be up soon for potentially a new deal. But yeah grichuk locked in for the next month or three or four years. I believe like you said so it will definitely be interesting to see if they consider any major changes from there by who knows if how serious they are. Like I said about them potentially making a big splash of those it'll be interesting to see and again we talked about it last week, but the approach that the Blue Jays take this offseason thing is going to be really interesting especially as they approached what we think they can offer can be a time period where they win a World Series so it'll be really interesting to see what their approaches. The next thing we want to talk about is other news that came out this week. The Blue Jays a cording to Forbes had increased viewership this season it increased about 23% year-over-year from 2019 MLB viewership and total went up 4.2% off. From last season despite 24% decrease in overall TV consumption from you know, everything from you know normal TV shows to sports and I believe NBA ratings NFL ratings not sure about any job, but I think they were also down as well. So MLB performing better this season in the environment that we exist and then some other sports have been in t in general has been in the Blue Jays as I mentioned increasing a lot 23% year-over-year reached 9.8 million Canadians wage, which as we know but 30% of the population. These are really good numbers for the Blue Jays. It's really encouraging to see both them and Major League Baseball doing better in total loss know if this is sustainable, I don't know if this is just cuz it's 60 Game season or only because the team was, you know, actually exciting and fun to watch this season, but I I would wager that it's cuz the team In the product on the field was good compared to 2090 more the team in the product on the field was not good. It was pretty horrible. So I think this bodes well for years to come there's not much to talk about here. Not much to offer not not many opinions to have here. It's just exciting to see people getting involved and excited to watch the Blue Jays again. Yeah. I have a few quick thoughts to about that. It's just off. I think one thing too that had a big impact on the ratings being down for the NHL or the MBA what you mentioned marked as well as it being up in Canada is you know this like I said the sports calendar being completely thrown off to begin with people aren't exactly interested maybe in the summer for the hockey. I know after the Leafs were eliminated and the qualifying round. I lost interest pretty quick on it and off so maybe that had something to do with it as well that people started to pay attention on it. And of course the Jays our Market where you know, unlike the Leafs in this town is or even country. Is that once the team performs more people off? And more people pay attention..

"francisco lindor" Discussed on Section 138

"I still think he's a few years away, but he's another one that will be coming eventually down the dog. So who knows how the Blue Jays make this work if they're really interested on him and it's been a few times now that they've actually called Cleveland about him from or at least rumors of go even going back to Iraq before the spring started in February late January. The Jay's apparent are reportedly called and checked in on Francisco Lindor and they were also interested in someone like Didi Gregorius from what I remember earlier. Season. So in someone at the Jays have always kind of kept tabs on and the the problem is that was obviously before the draft to was someone like Austin Martin and just right now when you look at it, you don't know where he would fit on the team. But you know, you have to imagine it would be a pretty significant trade of the Jays were able to pull it off and if there were very interested on doing that. We know that Ross Atkins said a few weeks ago that the team is prepared to offer pursue a a chance to go after someone bigger make a big acquisition. But you know, like I said, we we discussed this last week the Jays have to be very careful from where they sit at right now just because they're still not in the full contention window even though wage They're moving towards that now and the shortened season definitely helped their cause in terms of competing so you can't blow it all over 160 Game season. You have to be very careful. But I I trust the front office with that part. I think they will based off the deadline. We saw this year. They were very cautious and very conservative about the moves they made they didn't really give up anybody. It was a lot of cash and a lot of player to be named later. So I think I like the way the front office has brought him. And of course when you want to look at it, too, there's the Cleveland time because of Mark's power and Ross Atkins has passed from where they were before they came to the Blue Jays. So, you know, you have to imagine that they will be checking in on Thursday and I would love to see them make this trade but like I said, it has to come with an extension because he's a free agent at the end of our he's the free agent after the end of twenty Twenty-One. He's arbitration-eligible this winter. So you have to be very careful in terms of who you're giving up and you have to make sure it's a long-term thing. But right now when you look at it, there's they would have to definitely make some changes in order to fit them in the current in the lineup. Like I said cavan Biggio I can base you have to imagine he's probably going to be moving to the Outfield or somewhere else cuz I think Bo bichette I think they want to keep Boba shut at shortstop and Jordan Roshan's is knocking on the door entering the major leagues and Austin Martens not far behind him. Yeah, and another thing I guess to consider and really the only reason that I could see the Blue Jays acquiring Lindor this offseason is because he's coming off an off year for him. I mean he is as Jacob mentioned he's a really really good player. But this season didn't totally live up to expectations and what he's been previous years. He only had 0.8 War which of course, you know, it's a city game season and he did play all sixty games but compared to the 5.0 war that he had in previous years. It's not totally what he's been known to do. So maybe the Blue Jays took him for a cheaper price than they normally would if they were trading for a player of his caliber and maybe they go after him because of that reason, but for one year of this guy when I have to think they're dead. At someone who's going to line up for as I mentioned last week, you know the the rest of their competitive schedule for the next few years. I think they really want someone who's going to be under control. I don't think Francisco Lindor offers that I don't know who does offer that on the trade market. I think if they're going for guys on the trade market a lot of these guys if they're not prospects are going to be, you know have one month left on my contract maybe half a year left on their contract if the Blue Jays get a mid-season. So I think it's important that they instead of going after guys maybe on the trade market. It might be the time or maybe not. Susan but in future Seasons, you might just have to you know, swallow it and go after guys on the free-agent Market even though it's going to be more expensive probably I think that's the way that they have to do it especially with the room wage that they have in their salary cap. Yeah. No, that's all I was saying is that you know, if you're going to bring them over here it just it better come with an extension because of the player he is and the someone will pay him eventually job. SUV hits the Open Market in 2022. So at the end of next year, he's arbitration-eligible. And from where it is. The Jays would definitely have to make moves to fit them in the line of somewhere. Right? I just shortstop. I just see it as a long for Bo bichette to stay and if blind or was coming here, the only position I can see in possibly playing every day would be second base, but who knows what happens and that is the player. I think that if the Jays were to make a big move it along to him. I do think it would be him, but I don't know how likely it is and I don't know how serious they are making that big push or big trade that Ross Atkins says the team we're open to doing it'll be interesting to see how they approach this offseason them. I think if they do make a high-impact trade it's going to be for either a pitcher or in a filter. I don't think they are really in the market for any infielder may be a catcher but even that I don't know Alejandro Kirk coming up and they got Danny Jansen who obviously Is Not Great offensively, but they like what they see from him defensively. So I really just see, you know, first second third Ed. Our locks it's all about the pitching. It's all but the Outfield right now, I think for the Blue Jays I don't think they're in the market for a type of guy like Lindor not only because of the the the limitations of his office team control, but also just because of where he sits in on the team. Yeah, it would also be interesting you mentioned outfielder. I wonder I mean obviously we saw many instances where I struggled in the Outfield, you know in the last couple of games of the regular season, we saw grichuk mishandled a few balls Derek Fisher's yeah. That was tough..

"francisco lindor" Discussed on Section 138

"There was rumors that Francisco Lindor who is not a free agent, but almost certainly get treated by the Cleveland baseball team would be open to a trade to Toronto and I believe he can waive trades. I think I'm not totally sure on that. I imagine that's why it matters. Why what team he's going to or what team he wants to go to but do you think the Blue Jays should pursue Linda or do you think he's that hide super high impact sure that they should go out and get or like we talked about last week is now not the time to get a player or is Linda or not the right player to fit in with the Blue Jays. I mean, he's a shortstop the Blue Jays off have plenty of infielders either in the majors or coming up through the minors whether it be Jordan groshans, Austin Martin. So what do you guys think about it? Do you think he has a role with the Blue Jays do you think they should give birth? Can get him I'm going to be honest. I don't think they should just because like you said they have a lot of infielders and he he's an infielder. I mean look, he's a good player. I don't I don't think we're anybody would say that I'm not a good player. I mean, he's a four-time All-Star the only time he's not been in the All-Star Game excluding this year because you know, nobody was was 2015. So, you know, he's he's a good player. I mean and I think anyone would benefit from him, but There's just the Blue Jays are in that spot where they they quite literally don't have room for them. You mentioned Austin Martin Jordan groshans guys that are expected to play in the infield. And you know, I don't think that the Blue Jays are willing to kind of overcomplicate their infield situation just to have a guy like Lindor in their lineup or anywhere really because I mean what they could do we've seen with cavan Biggio that the Blue Jays are willing to move him around so I mean if you want to put bichette second don't know if that's going to you know, maybe the best option but you can do that put Biggio sir at 3rd, maybe but then that kind of complicates things with Austin Martin, you know, you want to throw him in the Outfield. Maybe I don't know. I just I don't think it's really going to happen just because the Blue Jays don't need them. They don't have the space for them. And also I mean, I don't think he's going to come cheap, you know, I don't think you can really say that you want a guy that's been an All-Star every single year except for one year in his career dead. At no cost. I mean you're going to have to give something up and you know, I don't think the Blue Jays I've said this all throughout the year. I don't think the Blue Jays are going to make many moves this offseason for external players. I think if they're going to be bolstered their team, it's going to be from internal Acquisitions. But with that being said, even if they were to entertain this trade, I don't really think that they want to give too much up back like say Austin Martin, I mentioned him like five times already, you know, do you want to give him up for I don't think he's getting trade but if he were to, you know, try to project who you want to trade. I don't think the Blue Jays 1-8 guys that they are high up on and that they expect to be good for them. Just because it doesn't make sense you have prospects so that you want to develop and that you you know, the Blue Jays picked up this year. They got ridiculously lucky with Austin Martin who was arguably one of the best players probably the best player in the draft. And the last thing you want to do is trade him for a trade that might not even really be needed dead. One thing I thought about last night. Now this is probably way too much of a stretch but maybe the Blue Jays acquire Lindor and then use them as trade bait next year. But like I said probably not going to happen. And I mean a lot of things would have to go right, you know, he'd have to do. Well a lot of teams would have to be you know in the market looking for him. But you know, that's too many things that on so overall, I mean if the Blue Jays needed him sure but it's not they're not in the position where you know in Fielding is their primary focus wage. I mean look at their rotation look at their boat bit. I mean, there's a lot of moves that need to be made there and I really don't think they need to be paying attention to much on their infield. They they have the guys. I think that could carry them if they develop the way they expect them to yeah. It's a tough one with Francisco Lindor because obviously we know the impact he brings we know the statues put up, you know one has been an All-Star multiple times. He's a dog Believe in certain categories year after year and you know, he definitely if you know just the way it's been going to with Cleveland he seems to the frustration for him is starting to kick in just because obviously he was looking for a new contract now, he's not a fridge until 2022 but Cleveland has I don't even believe spoken much about any contract at all and he's been calling of you know, telling the media multiple times that you know, he knows Cleveland Camp am but they won't so, you know regardless it looks like it'll be ending in Cleveland for him within the next couple of years. And the other thing too for him is he's going to be heading to arbitration wage this winter if they can't get a deal done. So you have to almost imagine that he will be going arbitration and that could definitely be an ugly finish for him as well. We know from Blue Jays experience. We know the Marcus Stroman problem when he went to arbitration with the Jason office of years ago. It seemed almost be the end, you know, he called the team up for the stuff. They said about him and Francisco Lindor you just have to imagine that he'll be going arbitration and unless they can log Or out some sort of long-term deal, but Lindor wants to stay in Cleveland, but unfortunately, I guess this is an up to him. It looks like he will be walking but for the Blue Jays perspective, you know, how long you want to add someone like Francisco Lindor to your line that but at what cost would he bring and also if you're going to be getting Francisco Lindor, you know, it has to come with an extension right off the bat because if you're going to be giving up many people you need to sign them right away, but when you look at it right now you just where does he fit in the the lineup? Where does he fit in the infield? I just don't know, you know, you have to imagine that it's going to lead to a permanent position change for cavan Biggio in particular. I think the Jays want to keep overshadowed shortstop and I think that maybe Lindor that's where he would come to play if he ever came here to play second base every day. And you said, you know loaded up on depth and Prospects Jordan Gross changes knocking on the door and we will most likely are for certain see him next at some point next season in 2021. Austin Martin..
