"Fox river Grove Hey man you're on seven twenty WGN good morning I've got a question I what about the world and it I love the way you don't need to provide a lot of light and all that but it should get you right next to the shower and and I cannot keep up with the group we're back on the inside but I can't keep it straight what aid to try and you could show that you know it doesn't play golf and whatnot but the competition is so great I'm wondering if that sounds like a a plastic site where it doesn't matter if you're kind of taking it back you can just wipe it off and not worry about okay well I mean I think that you know in the bathroom situation like that you should replace that with a vinyl window in the final windows correct so now if it's a vinyl a good quality vinyl window like what my friends over guilty can do and they can take that all you know the problem with that would window man is that you know with that white beaning condensation that would expand the contract you're getting some water infiltration probably into the walls and so eventually that's going to cause an issue with tile and all that stuff so with the vinyl with the vinyl window where the expansion contraction will be less than the fact that the water really won't bother it if it gets removed and they flash should properly they'll probably use the company you know the the the the company grace that makes ice and water shield for the roof they also they also make a window installation tape that is out like a rubber membrane tape very gory and sticky that you can talk to the folks you know what Gilkey that when you put this in the use that tape around the perimeter so basically the seal the opening first then they put them they put the then they put the vinyl window in and finish it all off and Cockett or treatment whatever it may be and then you can still open it and close it if you wanted to use a no pake piece of glass or something like that you could do the same I don't vinyl sure it actually comes down over the window one child perfect it's just that that moisture gets up under there so it was guilty windows I don't know and then you said it was great while you're you're gonna ask them about just talk to them about waterproofing the opening before the windows in they make a great grace is just one maker of that tape they're not the only one and they may use such a different product but but regardless it's what you wanna do is waterproof opening first then the window goes and then the seal that up and then you're good to go and my point is if you went with like a a frosted glass for no pay class you don't have to do the shade well that's that's that's up to you though of what you want to do that's up to you so thank you so much for the phone call this game why are you playing this well because I like thank you so we are we do this every week now okay so listen to this you.

Backlash grows for police use of facial recognition (The 3:59, Ep. 562)
"The. Welcome to three fifty nine I'm Ben FOX Ruben, I'm as actually on Tuesday, San Francisco became the first city to ban. Police use of facial recognition tech proponents of the ban say the tech offers a slippery slope for Massar Valence while proponents facial recognition say that it's a useful policing tool. I as guess, do you expect more cities to follow suit with San Francisco? I think the outright ban is a little bit much. I don't think cities will do that right away. I did see somebody talk about a moratorium maybe they don't use it as, as, as primary method of dentist. Maybe it's the secondary. Or maybe it's used in a very light way. But the outright ban, I think, is a little bit much. There must be a different way to regulate something like this. Well, it's also interesting that this is obviously, not a federal ban. It's still being used in a variety of other places right? Yeah. So I was looking at an article about this, and this does apply to San Francisco police and agencies, but the San Francisco, please does not use this currently. So nothing's changed. There plus facial detect is available at airports, international airports and ports. But that's jurisdiction, which means this ban has no effect on those areas, which means that if I went to the airport, and San Francisco, San Francisco International airport, they could use facial recognition in theory. So it's not like the entire municipality everything in your, the federal you can't can use this. So some additional information about this. The Georgetown Law Center on privacy and technology, which has been looking into facial recognition technology for quite some time came out with a study today, this morning, saying police are using flawed data to run facial recognition searches those include using artist's sketches editing images to add is in lips and searching for look alike. So to me, this seems like if people are already a little shaky on the USA facial recognition tack, this is obviously another point to say, hey, maybe this isn't the best thing. I mean if you were. Night witness go. Hey, get a little, Ben FOX Ruben, this should be able to show a picture of Ben FOX and since he's so well known. Maybe of course, one of the cases actually was Harrelson, David Schwimmer look, lot of people like that. So the idea of saying, this person looks like another person would be usable in the police sense. The idea that computers doing it and potentially getting wrong. Again. It's that final step if, if for some reason, the police are deploying arresting drones. Yeah. I think there's a real problem there. But if there's a person Dan going, this is completely wrong, or this is completely right? At least it should be due process after that. Yeah. I think that, you know, the, the idea that this was proposed in the first place is facial, recognition tech is supposed to be more accurate or more credible than the human, I'd sometimes or it's able to pick certain things up, like, for instance, if you're wearing a different pair of glasses if you have longer hair, dyed, your hair. There are all sorts of different ways to maybe mess with the human eye, which facial, recognition tech is expected to be able to just kind of. Sift through unfortunately with this study seems that, you know, hey, maybe they're messing around with it a little too much. Next up one. Switch to a different subject. We are happy to report, the no Facebook, certainly not listening to your conversations. Not that important seen it actually tested out, this urban legend. I was forced to talk into my phone for about a week and a half trying to get advertisements about chainsaws. And no. I didn't get any advertisements about chainsaws new found no evidence that this is actually real love. The article about this, the point that this would be crazy illegal. Let's not forget that illegal, forget the idea that oh yeah. This would be creepy. It would cost Facebook trillions of dollars and ruining their model entirely that have been breaking the law, this Hauer amount of time that would be just amazingly bad for Facebook. When it comes to the press. So if they're crazy enough to do it, then, yeah, they should be. It's a good point that you mentioned that this would actually cost the company, a lot of money, and there would in fact, be some sort of footprint to show that Facebook is digesting that information that it's actually gobbling up audio recordings from two billion of its users you even several hundred million of those users, there would be some sort of data process that we, we would be able to notice, and unfortunately, security, researchers haven't found that if the accuracy aspect of these ads. I think that's what makes people scared, but it's links to your friends searches that you're, you're looking for, because your friends are looking for friends of friends that kind of weird amazing profile that can create all this data on top of that just reminds me I was going to buy car. All of a sudden it's thinking about buying a Honda Accord. They were everywhere, didn't mean that they weren't there all the time. I just didn't notice them as much right? Wonder if there's a psychological element of I was just talking about cookies and others ads for cookies. But you might not have noticed it before because you're talking about pizza. Yeah. And it's a good point. Alfred ING in his story talked about the. Fact that Facebook doesn't actually have to listen to you at already has a ton of data about you already. But anyway, if you want to read more about these stories, check them out on CNN Ben FOX river on that bridge. Carey. Oh, jeez. All right. You threw me off. Thanks for listening.

"With the dupage river, FOX river Saint deal. But the good news is the water is going to continue to receive basically with each day. And I think by the time we get into Monday, especially if we're talking about just some showers, maybe a quarter inch or so is probably not going to be. We're not talking about flooding all over again after we get two days of pretty good weekend with probably going to be okay. But obviously too much rain into little time in it all starts all over somebody little more about. Yeah. Right back to that. That seventy two degrees Sunday, we're expecting more rain to come on with our man, but the sunshine. Yeah, it's going to be sunny low seventies tomorrow though, seventies on low too. I would even say mid seventies. I'm going one better than Dimitrios right now. Okay. What the forecast is. But all I know is I feel the same way about the Kentucky Derby make this up an entire way. Who would know the difference? It's going to be well, it's rooftop, right? I mean, golfing weather Dimitrius. Let's wait. I'll tell you. What's interesting about that? We've had so much rain only. There's a lot of courses that are going to be very reticent to call ahead on some of the courses. Now, is it a thing where the the courses don't want because I know the golfers seven they want to go, of course, wanted the worst thing that could possibly have happened. Here is is losing these April weekends or where they make their money. Let's they know they're gonna make money in June it or whatever. March weekend right now based on just happen. Yeah. But this may is critical. I mean may is critical and then all the way through so they need every one of these weekend's football season starts people. They don't show up to play golf, even though the weather's beautiful for it. That's true. And so this is critically important to keep that in mind this year, I'm gonna I'm learning golf to golf this..
Moto G7 and LG G8 get the smartphone wars going (The 3:59, Ep. 517)
"Tonight or chain. I'm Ben FOX urban the mobile world, congress trade shows almost upon us. Which means we've got a flood of phone news coming your way this morning, Motorola, showed off its new G seven line actually four different versions G-seven itself as that she seven play power. Plus one's got more power got a bigger screen ones. Better for playing with like. Oh, okay. I got I got it. Yeah. I'm on the ball today. Sure. This is why you should care. The Moto g line has consistently been seen that's top pick as a budget phone. But well, sadly, the cost for these devices are going up about fifty bucks more for the G seven still three hundred dollars dollars. Still a definitely a great deal considering all the study get jammed up jam packed into the phone including Jack headphone, Jack. Yeah. And it's third of the price of the iphone ten s but it is a price increase. And I think that's sort of reflection of the fact that like things are getting more expensive than his balance between cost and new features. I think most manufacturers are now airing bit more on adding new features, even for means more expensive device by my hope would be that a phone like this would actually help keep prices down or like help improve on competition. But we haven't really seen that much yet apple has been doing a little bit more of the deals and sales. To try to use the numbers of their iphone? But in general, I don't think that there ever they're not going to significantly lower their big flagship numbers are still going to keep around the Jesus play is actually one nine nine. So there is that sheep return of. Yeah. Now the phone news LG teased a bit of the extra details on their upcoming flagship phone the G eight thin Q. I know it's terrible of I tell time, but they announced last night that the the phone will have a front facing three D scanning front facing camera which better for selfish. But also as a sexually Apple's version of face ID or LG's version of face LG version of Apple's right? And the idea would be to add more like a are in VR features at some. So do you think either of these are really gonna make much noise in the phone market or the still kind of also rans will we'll see LG has definitely struggled has kind of been an also ran they they make like good phones. They're just not quite as good as what Samsung has out right around the same time. So it got some other tricks. I broke the news that they're going to have a phone with a second screen attachment. Oh, yeah. So it might be this phone might be another one. I know LG has a number of devices it's going to announce admirable congress. So we'll see we'll see if they, you know, get some of the spotlight back on them. Yeah. Next up. We want to talk about a story their own steam Shanklin wrote about a drone that my serve as your own home security system. Yeah. Like little attack dog so long attack. I I was definitely thinking that. And I was like this is the coolest idea ever if you have a flying attack dog by. No, that's not exactly right. The idea is to actually cut down on false alarms apparently home security systems in some areas. Actually ninety nine percent of those alarms are false alarms, which is insanely high number. Yeah. So the idea is to have a more sophisticated sense your house. Yeah. That's that's my house. Right. They're not really. So you would have motion vibration, sensors connected all around the perimeter of your home. And if they notice a problem, they send you a notification. And that's when you can get the drone into action, and you could actually watch live. I or your phone. What's going on? Interesting. Sounds like a really cool system. I don't know if it's really for everybody. But yeah. Ninety nine percent false. Alarm rate sounds pretty high. Lastly Twitter posts revenue that beat expectations but weaker forecast and lower monthly active. Users has Wall Street low bummed. Yeah. And they also reported daily active users, but then went out of their way to make sure that that wasn't comparible, right. Monetize daily, active user. What does that? Yeah. It's folks that see ads versus let's say with Facebook. They have daily active users. But it's for folks that either see odds or they don't see it. So they are intentionally trying to prevent us from doing apples to apples comparisons. Which is really nice. Thanks witter. Thanks for clearing things up. We just love the transparency for full coverage seen it Roger Chang. I'm Ben FOX river. Thanks for listening.

"Everybody welcome back to Cianci great outdoors. We've got ROY damage lucky on the phone here with us and ROY is the Illinois department of natural resources. He's in charge of the wildlife. The northern Illinois. He's also a duck and goose fishing Ottawa's. They say we meant we're just talking about breed would like for the break of other great places for us that we need to take a look at aren't there. Oh, sure. There's other opportunities that can be. Can we just as good at times if you hit them right to kind in remind, you know, every every hunting opportunities totally dependent on whether migrations the dogs. So it's always hard to say, what's what's best to win. But there's places that can be good as well. Like, you'd mentioned the chain of lakes. That's that's a perennial spot. That's always produces pretty consistently of duck harvest. You know, maybe isn't probably as good as what you've heard the hey days in the past. But it still has a lot of good days out there in folks like to us. That's again that's another area where we have some constructive blind. Heinecke lake area. Actually heineke had a really good season. Last year, you'll be harvested about one point seven waterfall per hundred trip, which doesn't sound like a lap land. Anything over one one like duck goose hunters, pretty good. So we got a pretty decent year last year. And there again, it's similar to what situation as both blind online at the daily draw, but that's kind of a nice spot to go. Folks are the bigger voter happen. Have one yourself. As far as some of the other areas. I mean, you mentioned explains river there earlier that that can be a pretty good spot to go to and it's close to home. They can do pretty well out there at times. And again that's another area where we have some blinds constructed. So you'd have to try to try to get in there after you know, when folks aren't using it because they used to have the blind years ago. If you're going southbound on interstate fifty five and you're crossing the displays river if you look to the right? The very first blind out in the middle of the river was mind. Okay. Good. To get nervous when the barges coming through. Yeah. Then we'll get your attention. Every time. Perte comes again. It was a good spot. It was a fun spot. We saw a lot of ducks. We were better, callers or whatever. But I mean, it was interesting. It was interesting. And that's there's gotta be some other places. We should take take a look at you mentioned Shabina lake Nona. Host somebody else you mentioned to me one time. Well, we we talked a little bit too. I think about you know, the kankakee river state park has some again, some constructive lanes there. They can sometimes be kind of a little bit of a asleep spot as well. There's not too many blinds. There's kind of a little more intimate sort of area the river smaller cushy, you don't have barges going up and down through there. So yeah, that's kind of a little bit more of a low key type of for there too. Yeah. We do manage some blind sites along the FOX river. You know, pretty much between the mill broken oswego air area through kindle county. There's thirteen sites that we have designated. There's no actual blinds there. But you can certainly hunt out of a both line from those spots in a website. You look at the one hundred fact sheets for region two which is our area. You'll see one for the FOX river manage fight there. So all the sites have GPS coordinates. You know, you can be sure you're in the right spot in the our stake as well. So that could be something to look into certainly the rivers around here can be it can be a little tricky. You know, in some cases, of course, you're going to be within city limits, and that's not that's not allowable some of the rivers aren't public water. So that's a that's a problem as well. But even on our public waters, you have to be rumors that are designated as public waters, you have to be kind of careful sometimes, you know, folks can still own some of the land onto the water, which you know, that that point pretty much means you can't really hunt from that area, or or anchor there on the main channel might be public. But you have to kind of careful not to not to be on somebody else's property so uncommon folks. Can I check with the local CPO works like a plat book, and just you know, when the areas of hunting, but but then when FOX river area mentioned earlier that spot where we actually manage site. So that's about where people can go and try I I don't know too much about harvest through that area. They don't actually report that is, you know, slight harvest like do with the other sites. Both kinda I don't know exactly how what what does all the time. But it's certainly not, particularly if you've got a smaller boat, and you want to hunt from over a few decoys or something it's a pretty easy way to do it. Now a couple of weeks ago, we had Randy Smith on the phone here. And he was telling us about we got way too much information how ducks fly from Canada's to Illinois. But it was really interesting. I think he's really infant of way too, much technical information. But a, you know, Illinois is was has been and I still say continues to be equality hunting dot counting waterfowl spot. I mean, a lot of the geese and stuff that used to run the southern Illinois kind of hanging around here. Now. And that's thousands. And I do mean thousands. Oh, yeah. Goose hunting in particular has really really picked up, you know, for certain in the last twenty three years even Chicago land area. A lot of ads, you know, gone by field hunting on on private property when you give permission or if you're one of the hunt clumps or something, but there's some excellent opportunities. I mean Kane county McHenry county consistently our some of our highest harvest counties the entire state. And that's largely because we're wintering so many more gays from this area than we ever used to. So I was populations of course are doing well. And then when you add in the migrants that come down from other states north of us who from Canada, boy, it can really really pick up and that local goose harvest is is pretty amazing actually how well they do a lot of years, especially. To get a little bit harsher weather up north. And that's when we see our big flights here. And then from here what happens a lot, you know, once we start freezing up in deeper snow cover in northern northern part of the state. That's what a lot of those people then fly down the braid wooden kind of make that their base of operation. And of course, that's when hunting around that area is pretty amazing. There's a lot of opportunities throughout the state, and especially it's really important for folks to kind of keep an eye on the weather, and and see how birds are moving and kind of trying to pick their best Bod. And the other thing too is we are talking about state sites. Then that's 'cause I cut my teeth as I mentioned at the beginning of the interview on state areas for for pheasant for deer for archery for squirrel hunting 'cause I live in the city of Chicago. While I lived in Scarborough, and I I didn't have a place to go in the state of Illinois, and you people that when I say, you people all the employees the try to manage these areas for people like me to go out and enjoy themselves have fun and stuff like that. If you want to try even these private there are some private goose hunting clubs around primary is that you know, you may want to check them out because they have all the decoys. They've got the blind. They've got heaters. And there's nothing worse than being in a ghost when you're five and a half feet underground, and you're going. Hey, it's ten degrees outside. And you don't have a heater with you. And so you have to weigh everything and say, okay, listen, if I go to a club, then you know, I don't have to bring all this stuff. If not maybe you're like me, and you gotta, you know, crawlspace full of decoys and you wanna use. But there are for us in Illinois. Are you feeling good about? I know we're not gonna talk any numbers because who knows what brings anything telling what the weather with waterfall. But are we getting a good feeling for this year? You know, I think it should be a good year. I mean, again, there's so much variability it's hard to say from year to year. But when you look at just we're duck and goose populations are in general. I mean, our our continental populations are down a bit from last year, but they're still well above the long-term average, which means they're they're good. Real good. Looks like our our local candidate news. Production was good this year. It's certainly considerably better than last year. So there should be plenty of local gifts around in addition to that, you know, we haven't gotten any numbers back from our void duck banding efforts can't really say too much about how would ducks were produced this year, but the weather water conditions that should they should have a pretty decent year to I would expect those are really the two species that we re produced the most of we certainly produce some local mallards, but they're not probably as probably contribute quite as much to the harvest, certainly when you consider how many how many person the continental population come. Yeah. Significant. I mean, they do provide some opportunity to. Some species ROY just want you to know that last week, and I was out. Goes first weekend of nuisance goose hunting. I was out. And I want you to know that union staff after a really good job of teaching the local geese how to stay away from my blind. I just want you to know that you did a really good job at goose school. Yeah. They figure it out awfully quick. Unfortunately. I had them to listen to the right way. High overhead I had once route circling me, and I only had one of them that said, I wanna go home with you. Came in and said, I want to go home with Chauncey. And that was it. Good news is we got a few days left the early season. And then we got all regular season to look forward to hopefully, get a little better for you. And the regular season is going to be good. Because in Illinois. We really do have a very. What's the proper word? We have a very good season. I mean, you know, statewide teal season goes from the eighth of September to the twenty third the northern. Goose is what is it? I'm trying to think off my head the northern goose's from October twentieth. To January seventeenth white fronted geese is October twenty seconds at the seventeenth. And that's just the northern John. There is a central zone in southern zone that if you want all those dates, please go to the illness in our website for more information on that. And you're gonna find that there are great places for us to enjoy waterfowl hunting, which is really an Illinois tradition here in the great state of Illinois. Absolutely is what I want to say. You've got an open mic. You're anytime. You want to come out and talk about some of the cool stuff with wildlife and things either programs or things that we need to be aware of etc. You always feel like you can call in and say, hey, I want to talk about this. You gotta time. Right. Okay. Sounds great everybody. That's right. Lucky from the Illinois department of natural resources sees the gentleman in charge of all to wildlife in the northern half of the state, and he used to be the guy in charge of ducks and geese in the northern part of the state. So he's got a double duty now. Thanks coming on ROY. All you're welcome enjoyed it..
