I think it's time that someone plays a trick on him. Not many days later raccoon saw Fox coming down the trail. Raccoon was eating some juicy yellow apples that he found on a Trina far away. As soon as he saw Fox, he ran a tree and he began to smack his lips. Just at Fox had done before to bear with fish. delicious apples. What tastes so good? Asked Fox. Raccoon responded by throwing a fresh juicy apple right down to Fox. Fox looked at the apple and took a bite out of it. Delicious, sweet juicy, said Fox when he finished the last mouthful. Where did you get it? Raccoon told Fox how to find the apple tree. He must follow the trail along the river down the pine bluff that he must climb the bluff and run towards the setting sun until he came to an open field. In the center of that field stood a great apple tree. And it was filled with juic- yellow apples, but raccoon. You can climb the tree and pick your own apples. How can I get them off? The branches complained Fox. Oh, that's easy. Said Raccoon. Just back off to bow shots from the tree. And then lower your head like this. Run hard and but the tree with your head. You have such a big head. It will shake the tree so hard that all of the apples will follow at once. Do as I. Tell You and you will have all the apples you want. For a long time. Legends 11 Why Goldfinches Look Like the Sun

"Why gold finches look like the Sun. This is a traditional Hodeidah. Schone story as told by Mabel powers in her nineteen seventeen book stories that Iroquois tell their children today with special guest performances by Ezra and Ethan Carter Ages seven and five respectively. It was so moons after raccoon outwitted Fox before they again met. Raccoon was scurrying by when Fox saw him now Fox had not forgotten the trick that raccoon had played on him when he burned his mouth with what he thought was magic. Papa's but in reality. It went by another name Jack in the pulpit or to others a fireball. So Fox began to chase after raccoon. He was gaining and would have caught him had they not come to a tall pine tree. Raccoon quickly ran up the trunk and reached the tippy top of it. Try Get me up here. Flax said raccoon there. He would be safe for. The Fox could not climb the Fox lay down on the soft pine needles and waited for raccoon. Come down the Fox lay down on the soft pine needles just sitting there waiting for raccoon to eventually come down but raccoons stayed up in the pine tree. So Long Fox grew tired and sleepy. He began to close his eyes and thought he would just take short nap. Raccoon watched until he saw the Fox was sound asleep. Raccoon had been sitting on the tree along while and when he tried to move he noticed that his paws were very sticky and then he smiled and said to himself. I know how to deal with box. Then he took in his mouth some of the south from the Pine Tree. He ran down the trunk and quietly rubbed the pitch over the eyes of Sleeping Fox shortly thereafter Fox awoke with a Jerk. He Sprang up and tried to seize raccoon but alas he could no longer see what he was doing. The lids of his eyes were held fast with the Pine Tar. He could not open them. The raccoon laughed at Fox's plight and then ran away and left him shouting back over his shoulder. Trial me now. Fox Fox lay for some time under the tree. The Pine Gum as it dried held the lids of his is closer and closer shut. He thought he would never again see the sun. Some of the birds were singing nearby and he called to them and told them of his plight. He asked if they would be so kind as to pick open his eyes. The birds disgusted among themselves and then flew off and told other birds pass soon. Many of the little dark songs tres flew back to where Fox was laying down and then Peck Peck went the little bills on the islands of the Fox bit by bit they carefully picked away the Pine Tar. If one grew tired another bird would come in and take its place as they stood on his snout at last Fox saw a small streak of light shortly thereafter. One of the islands was able to fly open and then shortly thereafter. Another the sun was shining and the world looked so very to Fox as he opened both of his eyes he was very grateful to the little birds for bringing him light and he told them that he would give them anything they asked for. The little birds talked among themselves and then looked back and said to Fox. We don't like doc fabrics we to look like the Fox looked around him and saw some beautiful sunflowers growing nearby. He took the pedals and pressed them. Grinding them into paint and then with the tip of his tail is a brush. He began to paint the little dark birds like the son. He thought that he would start by painting. The body's first but the birds were so overcome with happiness before he could move onto the wings and tails on the top of their heads and dozens of little birds darted away like streaks of sunshine shouting as they went.

Making Privacy Law

"The word regulation gets tossed around a lot not lately and it's often aimed directly at the internet's big tech companies some worried that the size of these companies the power and influence. They wheeled the magnitude of their presence in our lives. It's too much that these companies need to be given boundaries that they need to be regulated u._s. Senator senator elizabeth warren for instance says big tech is too big. She wants to break these companies up but on the other end of the classic argument that any regulation is overreach that regulation actually stifles innovation. We should leave it to the market. Everything will sort itself out. Consumers will settle their problems with their dollars. It's a debate that's ongoing but over the last year in the midst of it a funny thing happened. Tech companies did did get regulated. Here's how it all started a little over a year ago. The general data protection regulation russian became law across europe the g._d._p. Are as it's called was and is a big deal. It lays out explicit rules rules around how companies collect store share and use data grants consumers important rights to protect their data privacy and it imposes. This is big fines on companies who breach these rights lake spain's national football league recently the spanish data protection authority sanctioned the national soccer league <hes> from spain <hes> because of their mobile tap gabriella zamfir fortuna is with the future of privacy forum and this story caught her eye mid june spain's top pro men's soccer league. It's called la liga and the league app is both for i._o._s. And android but according to the spanish data protection authority the android the android version comes with a bonus feature on the app did was that the microphone would turn on for a couple of seconds ends every minute during a live football match lolitas official soccer app can turn your microphone acre phone on to listen for a special audio signal sent out during televised matches. The human ear can't hear it. The league did that because because they wanted to cross reference the audio fingerprinting with location data in order to figure out what bars or restaurants were broadcasting the match without paying a license for that lolita says it loses one hundred and fifty million euros every year to piracy and fraud about one hundred and seventy million u._s. dollars by combining that audio signal and knowing where the phone with the app is as they can crackdown on unlicensed broadcasts well. That was the goal anyway. The data protection authorities says lalita didn't and seek out proper consent from its users and under g._d._p. Are that nets you a red card. The suspense data protection authority had an investigation <hes> <hes> and they decided to find the league with two hundred and fifty thousand euros. That's about one hundred eighty thousand dollars so that so one very recent example of g._d._p. Our enforcement lalita is crying foul. It insists everything it's does is legal and that it does get user consent. It says the regulator doesn't understand how the tech works so appealing the fine but for now they have deactivated he activated the feature complaints. Investigations finds an appeals. That is the name of the game for g._d._p. Ours first year and it means is that europe is leading the global privacy conversation around the world g._d._p. Are has sparked something. Similar legislation is spreading to places like brazil l. and japan india's considering it too in the u._s. No federal privacy law exists yet but the state of california has passed its own privacy law which kicks in next year not to mention the record five billion dollar fine levied against facebook in july by the u._s. Federal trade commission which by the way is the biggest fine ever levied and yet small compared to the tens of billions of dollars facebook makes every year financial penalties are getting bigger and privacy regulation has arrived and it's upending the relationship between tech companies and us their users today you'll hear from twitter's new data protection officer and how he says the company is rethinking how it handles our information and then microsoft explains why they claim they're eager for even more regulation and you'll meet the californian responsible for the passage of his state's powerful new data law. It's true one person can actually change the world. I'm new summary this i._r._l. An original okon cast from fire fox fire fox products have always stood for privacy when g._d._p. Our past fire fox fox didn't need to overhaul its business practices. The company's data privacy principles mirror those of the g._d._p. Are and even exceed them. In some ways it feels is like the rest of the world is catching up where the company has been all along learn more about how fire fox fights for you at fire fox dot com slash join the g._d._p. Are is a complex and detailed set of rules. We won't get into every bit of it but let's let's look at why it is such a game changer so i to clear something up. You know those annoying pop up notifications. You keep getting every time you go to a new website. This website uses cookies to ensure you. Get the best experience on our website. You'd be forgiven for believing that these problems are now mandated by continuing to use our site. Thank you agree to my terms of service and privacy policy. We'll use cookies to do things like remember what you've added to your shopping basket fi closing this vendor scrolling scrolling this page clicking link oh continuing to browse otherwise you agree to the use of cookies and you'd also be forgiven for finding them super annoying. I have seen plenty of those reactions because it might be that one of the unnecessary effects of the g._d._p. Are was that <hes> a lot out of banners. A lot of pope ops started to gloves of people. The pop ups are not a requirement under g._d._p. Are there more like a hack an elegant attempt by companies to get consent from consumers to collect their data. Here's gabriella again from the future of privacy forum but the g._d._p. Is carries much more than that. It actually starts from the premise that by mishandling personal data by on in <hes> fairly collecting unfairly using personal data more than deprive issue of people is at stake protecting online privacy. He is difficult and this law places. The burden of responsibility on businesses not consumers so for instance companies have to show that the data they collect act and use is necessary to providing their services and if someone asks that their data be deleted. They have to comply another strong long privacy protection that the g._d._p. Provides for is that it allows individuals to actually have some control over their personal data the the g._d._p. Are also provides for individual rights of action <hes> which means that people can go to court and ask for damages if if they think that <hes> any company or other organization a breach to the data protection rights and in fact a lot of people. We'll have been filing complaints according to gabriella in the first nine months of the g._d._p. Are being applicable. We have about two hundred thousand cases that were opened pinned with data protection authorities across europe because of g._d._p. Our companies including google facebook twitter apple and linked not in have faced investigations into their data practices but there has been some criticism of g._d._p. For one some say that the number of registered complains planes have not led to enough investigations others believe regulators haven't find enough companies for enough money to really make a difference but this is all still. I'm very new. They're calling it. A transition year as companies and regulators alike adjust to the new privacy status quo consumers. These are having to adapt to. I think we have a long way to go until the everyday internet consumer around the world will understand his his or her rights but certainly the g._d._p. Are has raised awareness okay so those the dp are basics if you wanna learn more about consumer rights under g._d._p. Despite box office domination, Disney's earnings disappoint

"I'm kim masters and this is the hollywood breakdown joining me as bellany of the hollywood reporter and matt <hes> this past week disney reported its earnings and they were disappointing disappointing despite disney having basically devoured the box office with ventures game in captain marvel and toy story foreign hit after hit lion king in the future <hes> their stock took a little shot and the reason according to chairman bob eiger and was that twenty th century fox they acquired the company and fox fox has left a couple of duds in the pipeline that really hurt of disney's bottom line. You're not just a couple of duds but he really took aim at the entire fox fox film studio strategy. He basically said that the new management disney was going to rectify some of the problems that imply quote discipline to the movie making process. I mean you look back. This is the first quarter that the fox assets were being counted against disney earnings and judging from what whatever said it seemed to surprise them how much trouble the film division was in and he cited dark phoenix. He started a couple of other big pricey bombs that were left them now. Obviously this is in his interest to do you know they had an earnings miss so you've gotta explain it somehow and it was very convenient for him to be able to point a finger at this company money that they absorbed but it does ring true if you look at some of the box office performance of these films in the fox studio had kind of been in this middling you know they had a couple of franchises but not those billion dollar franchises and they had pricey mrs dark phoenix and x. men movie that didn't do much at the box office. That was very pricey a._c. Miss i tried to walk a line sort of saying that we're taking over in. It's all going to be good now. We're redefining fox's film strategy and meanwhile meanwhile i'm not blaming anybody because it was hard for them. Over there you know there was all this talk for months and months and months about a takeover and maybe they took their eye off the ball was the implication kevin however you know if you're emma watts the one upper level fox film executive to survive this because the chairman of the fox studio stacey snider didn't make the move to disney disney. You gotta be feeling a little bit like there's a bullseye painted on you although he eicher did say <hes> you know i'm not blaming any individual yeah. I don't see how you feel comfortable and you know there. Is this question now. What is fox. It's a pared down version of itself. They're gonna make up. Maybe a ten movies but half of those are supposed to be for the streaming service. I am not quite clear yet. Who's in charge of what <hes> i. It's just been a pretty rough ride. Yeah fox's now illegal under disney just like marvel just like pixar lucasfilm and it's going to be treated as such but let's talk about a different topic here at disney which is wasn't just fox that dragged them down. They we are spending like crazy to launch the streaming service that it's going to go live later this year. Call disney plus and it's going to be the future of the company. They're trying to compete with netflixing. It's not just the disney library stuff all the children's movies and the marvel movies that are gonna go to disney plus. It's going to be new stuff stuff like a star wars series stuff like marvel original series and that's costing them a lot of money and they're not seeing any benefit to that and i talked about this in the past that the disney board is on board for his strategy which is to spend big now an end some of these lucrative licensing deals to own the direct to consumer experience and compete in the streaming world and that's gonna cost money and it's going to drag down earnings for a while yeah i mean at the idea is short term pain for long-term gain which of course leads to the perennial question. What what's it's going to happen with. Netflixing is going to really hurt net flicks. We're seeing signs of that already and we are watching an industry transform before our eyes. Thank you matt thank you. That's matt bellamy editorial director of the hollywood reporter. He joins me this monday at one thirty on the business. Disney enters streaming wars with $13 monthly bundle of Disney, Hulu and ESPN offerings

"So let's move on to streaming because they made a big announcement ciment on their earnings call disney announcing that they will offer a bundle of their three streaming services disney plus hulu and e._s._p._n. Plus for twelve twelve ninety nine a month starting november now. If that amount sounds familiar that's because netflix is most popular plan is also twelve ninety nine disney ceo bob iger says that's a coincidence own sure yeah. So what do you think of the disney bundle because that sounds pretty pretty compelling. Especially when i looked at hulu this morning and i looked at all the hulu channels i could get and i'm like wow i can get c._n._n. I can get m._s._n._b._c. and fox fox news and all of the news channels can get e._s._p._n. I get all of the cable channels. I wanna watch. I mean that's pretty compelling. Yeah while i mean for for as long on as we can remember i mean we've talked about what a great value net flicks is in and it really is. I mean <hes> you're paying not a whole heck of a lot for ages slew of content <hes> and i think you would make that argument with this bundle as well. I mean this is going to be a tremendous value. Even if it's not everything that you wanted to be for the price that you're paying. You're gonna have a very broad offering content that spans from animated made a disney content to sports to news to you know whatever else they have in their streaming catalogue on hulu which is a lot <hes> and i think that you know we knew what we assume. We pretty sure that we're going to do some type of bundle thing. Because why wouldn't you <hes> and it really does boil down to. How will they be able to raise prices for this over time. I think they very very wise thing in offering this package for such a low price and i mean we don't know oh exactly what's going to be in it but i can guarantee. There's going to be a lot in there that's going to it's going to scratch a lot of different issues so to speak and it'll give them room to raise that price over time okay so i i am both a disney shareholder in a netflix shoulder so as the disney shareholder. I'm pretty fired up about this bundle. Yes how should i feel as a netflix shareholder because as we've talked about time and time i'm again a lot gets made of this disney versus narrative disney versus narrative and the price seems fairly fairly quick convenient vignettes the same price as netflix says most popular plan. Is this a threat to net flix or do. You think that's overblown. I i think it's overblown. Firstly i mean i do. I think that netflix the excess done such a good job in helping spearhead this over the over the top movement really destroying movement that i think they've established themselves as kind of bed rock doc streaming position. It's a bedrock member of the services to which you'll subscribe in and i think they'll be able to maintain that a position for the foreseeable future <hes> because again it's it's a tremendous catalog and a lot of a lot of content there. I think that disney has put themselves in the conversation <hes> as a bedrock holding holing as well now. I don't think it's a threat to net flicks. The question i think for investors when it comes to net flix though is how much farther can netflix raise prices now right because i mean this is all about for net flicks they're starting to. They've got a very big subscriber base. I mean it's it's reasonable to figure that maybe they're kind of the that that growth is going to be a little bit tougher to come by. Particularly more competition enters the fray. So how much farther can they raise prices before people start saying you know what maybe maybe. I don't find that to be as worth it or maybe i'll downgrade to the simplest plan they have in in that to me could be a big problem for investors. I it's a problem for netflix the company but i mean as an investor that's my first question because the one thing we're critical of netflix is that they pay a lot of money every every year for content i mean they had a wapping bill that is going to be do for the foreseeable future in. I don't know that that ever really gonna slow down in. I know content is a very personal thing right. Some people love certain content some people don't i personally view net flicks is having very mediocre universe of content and it. It sounds like they're going to be losing a lot of stuff here in the near future now. That's just an opinion right. I know other people love their content but i know i'm not the only person that shares the opinion that their content is somewhat mediocre <hes> so then it goes back to how much can they raise prices before people start trying to make a decision way one versus the other. I don't know that they have a whole heck of a lot of room want to do that in if they don't. That's going to be a big problem for the financial side of this business okay so back to disney plus though if netflix ultimately is not that threatened by disney plus. They're fighting their own fight with the cost of content. Who do you think is most threatened by disney plus. I think it's the traditional cable companies in we even we even saw nice passage in the call with bob. Eiger talking about houses disney is kind of having their cake and eating it too. It's really neat because for the longest time they've played on the traditional side of the equation right playing with the cable companies navy affiliate advertising revenue they bring it from being a part of that cable relationship but as time goes on and we see that cable relationship is eroding as we see more offerings whether to live or youtube live or whatever into disney is now having to sort of play both sides of the fence there and making some of their content there for cable companies available but also building out their own offerings here with their streaming properties whether it's plus s._p._n. Plus or hulu live or hulu disney really controls a lot of the power here because they can pick and choose and i think that i mean cable companies are just on the wrong side of history. They're notorious aureus for just really bad service one of the great things about streaming as the services so cut and dried simple and easy and the interface is so slick experiences so great whether it's netflix h._b._o.

"I offer you know he often said young men are easily taken in people he you know one thing about human beings is that what you sneak taken in by snows and tracks and that's the kind of weak point that human beings have unlike fox's that's hence the title be like the fox fox's he says a really good at seeing through snat's and that makes it hard at the kind of tough on human beings are kind of easy to trap because they can go on the pool and they you know thinking about their present interests and not very much about the future but once you thought them if you're stupid enough to think that you can hold them easily then you're gonna get you know you're going to have another think coming in the prince that's exactly what he says to prince about trying to hold republics you can get them by being sneaky and people are kind of gonna let you maybe be taken in by some of your tricks but once you got people conquered if they used to freedom they're not gonna like it and they're gonna fight back and your life will not be fun as a ruse as the life of being the most powerful man in italy or whatever it's not going to be as raise the issue thought it was going to be too stand the context the machiavelli were not just the prince but his discourses it's important have at least a rudimentary understanding of italian and european politics all men when i was reading the book you had that like list of cast of characters at the beginning i found myself having to go back over no 'cause there's so many different people involved in people would rise to power than fall the power and then they would rise back to power soupsa what was the political world like in that machiavelli grew up in there.
