Presidential debate: Trump refuses to take part in virtual TV

"Presidential debate will be virtual Trump isn't having any of it. Apparently. Right now. President Trump is claiming he's not going to do a second debate if the second debate is virtual, and the commission on public debate is now saying that they wanted to be virtual only, according to The Associated Press. The second debate between Trump and Biden will take place virtually amid the fallout from the president's diagnosis of Corbett in 19. A nonpartisan commission on presidential debates Sighted two needs will protect the health and safety of all involved with the second presidential debate. The candidates will participate from separate remote locations while the participants and moderator remain in Miami. And, of course, would radically shape the dynamic of the second debate number one. There's always a little bit of delay when you're doing things for only a very slight delay generally, and that means very difficult for trump to jump in. If Biden is lying, or for Biden defend off attacks from Trump, it could turn into even more of a mess You've ever been on a zoom call with a delay. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Also. There's severe concerns, and there should be severe concerns about what sort of information Joe Biden is going to get. Remember when he's actually in the room. He can't be fed information. But his own people have routinely and repeatedly refused to answer on camera whether Joe Biden uses TelePrompTer during interviews whether they're feeding him information during the interviews by throwing it up on his teleprompter, you could easily see them doing something like that in the middle. Of the debate, especially because they have not actually disowned that tactic. In the past, Trump says, he's not gonna do it. So Trump said on Fox business that he will not do a virtual debate. Here's what it sounded like. I heard that the commission a little while ago changed the debate style. In and that's not acceptable to us. I beat him easily in the first debate, according to the polls that I've seen, but I beat him easily that I felt that beat him easily. I think he felt it too, but I'm not going to do a virtual debate. Saying So, Mr President, you're not going to do it because the CPD the Commission on presidential debates, announcing this morning that the second presidential debate will be virtual. You say you're not going to participate. No, I'm not gonna waste my time on a virtual debate. That's not what debating is all about. You sit behind a computer and do a debates ridiculous and then they cut you off whenever they want. Now. The commission on Presidential debate, of course, says that they have to do this for reasons of public safety. The president will be free and clear of this thing by the time The next debate rolls around. Presumably, it is unclear how long the viruses shed, but he will be immune. If he continues to recover. Hey apparently is symptom free and has been symptom free for some 48 or 72 hours at this point So it seems unlikely at best that he's going to transmit the virus a week from now to somebody, and it seems like you could take some precautions. "They'll always be a new cable network that gets hot. You Know Bravo went from nothing too hot for a decade. Right? You know. HBO IS HOT than. It's cold then than Sopranos and sex and city than it's hot again. Showtime was super cold and then billions and homeland. You know. So I think you're gonNA see a very similar dynamic with social networks. You know what's interesting about showtime because my sister Danielle Claiming Gilbert worked there. She's a she's an executive in Hollywood They Lord Her from Twenty s twelve is twentieth century Fox back. Then she was head of drama thirty and she said I'm going and I said showtime aren't they just a just a sieve for being movies and reruns and she said they want to be the next HBO. and. Sure enough. They got weeds. These were the early shows that she worked on weeds and Dexter and. An incredible run and and that show from friendster and my space to tick tock and instagram. It's been proven to me that that will be the way it goes plus every kid's generation doesn't want to go to the club the hot club of their older siblings or their parents for damn shore, and so you're going to continue to see this happen and you know I'm I'm never emotional about it if tomorrow. Every social network of my tens of millions of followers that you mentioned earlier disappeared off the face of the earth I'd be happy because what I would realize is forget about my tens of millions it's billions of people that use these platforms, and now every one of those people has to find a new place to go and I think I'm very good at understanding those new places and how to communicate on. You mentioned growing up in a Soviet bloc communist country. I'd be resisted I and ask you about what's going on in Belarus. The former Soviet nation right now with huge protests against the longtime leader Alexandro. Alexander. CA- check against the longtime leader Alexandra go who will not relinquish power. He's held for what twenty six years his political opponents of either been chased out of the country or a -ducted this. Social. Media can play a role in ousting him at some point. Yes. But I also think that it has been very clear in the last three hundred years of history that if you do not have. The intervention, it's very hard for these victims because they're willing to kill everybody. When summit like? If you look at the history of these things, the ones that dig in the most and have the longest runs are basically in a place where they're willing to. Do, whatever they need to do from a jailing killing standpoint to scare the collective in and normally not always. But normally, you'll have outside intervention over the modern. Era It's been the United States of America but but if you look at the Green Movement in Iran and if you look at what's going on under right now with Belarus both Obama and trump. Were passive in they're actually going in and really really trying to get involved and so I view these things as. Less likely to happen when you have a passiveness from an America to get involved they then times whether it's been. Brian or or or by the way in reverse China some of the former USSR when it got involved and whether it's Q-bert things that nature. So I think you sometimes need a bigger brother and my bet is that Putin, will get involved before trump will get involved, which makes me think that he has a chance of getting through to the other side, which is too bad because there is no confusion that has been a dictatorship now. Well, you know it could happen. You Know Nikolai Ceaucescu was overthrown and yet. Like will and Sochaux Grio power to deal with what was going on in Poland but I. But that was during that was during an era where we were feeling the effects of a post. Reagan. Initiative that was very aggressive. In a first weakening the Soviets. We there was great fortune for the world had an incredible era. Of Prosperity and peace because dominant conflict of the USSR. The USA had the right combination of presidents at the right time. A pushing Reagan and a far more passive. Gorbachev who inherited a country? That was I mean I live in America my entire life because Russia was USSR excuse me was in such bad shape that they traded a couple hundred thousand Jews me included for weet from America that Israel and America brokered. Because what people listen Gorbachev was? Very important but he also inherited a country that was dying from within itself. He was practical. He knew what the outcome would be and he had to do something or it was eating itself from the inside, which is what happens in communist regimes. You know where China has a very different structure is there a communist capitalist country? So it their half pregnant on both sides which enables them to be far. You know what's funny about China China actually runs its country very similar to the way that private business runs itself in America. Very good well run businesses in America allow their executives to do a whole lot put ultimately there is a coo. Pretty much has carte blanche to do their thing as long as they board support. That's kind of what China is, which is like you can do your stuff. But like if we need to make a decision, we're GONNA make it in America. Has. Actually. Ironically, become more of that over the last three presidents with executive orders but up to that point. We're getting nothing done well, Gary. Let's finish up with America when it comes to what we're seeing here in this country today from corona virus to the spike in unemployment and racial injustice. How do you remain optimistic? For me pretty easily because the reality is is that this is still America. Let's America's going through a very difficult time unfortunately. Everyone's dug in on this place where they think they're I've never seen a collected three, hundred million people decide the aid themselves are right about everything and that's kind of where we're at and then obviously given the political structure and just the way this country's built to very competing sides, which you know have lost their way collectively in working with each other and have spread further and further apart of created real contention for me. The way I stay optimistic is I think that there's peaks and valleys life is never just easy and great and I think history has made me optimistic not. Multiple Times during Kobe people have said to me, it's never been this bad. Then I go you mean like the civil war like I think we? I think people struggle especially Americans because we've had such global prosperity. Nine eleven is devastating the two thousand eight financial crisis is devastating. But when you put those two things into context of what this country has been about basically from nine, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, two, two, thousand, twenty, that's a forty year prosperity run. That is very difficult. To, not understand why many Americans struggle with any adversity at all in any shape or form. This is a country that has currently a republican regime in place that when Kobe happens everybody just believes the government should print money and give it to them. Not Even Not, even be the fiscally responsible types are speaking up I mean let's call it what it is. George Bush and Donald Trump printed the biggest stimulus checks of the last one, hundred years and an an I. think that's because there is no truth fiscally responsible conservative people wanted for everybody but themselves. And they want to hold onto power they want to remain responsive listen. So I understand honestly I'm not on a judgment tour on. WHAT'S THE ALTERNATIVE? What am I going to just think it's doomsday like all these people I've lived through my adult life where people told me if George Bush got reelected, they were moving to Canada and then eight years later, my friends on the other side said if Obama gets reelected moving to Canada and now you know millions of people are saying they're moving out of this country of trump gets reelected, and then what you realize is nobody ends up doing it. And and there's a reason for that because life is about alternatives and look I think we have many issues but so do many other places in the world and also. I actually a funny guy I think we're getting to such a white heat negative moment that I do think the counter action..

"Some extremely progressive in my understanding of the Internet and social media, and so I've had that really shrunk rear over the last twenty years, but it's funny mix of new and old world. How old were you when you started your first business and what wasn't? All. The like I think my first business was a lemonade stand where I had four or five of them and I that's a big deal like four or five lemonade stands and you're making signs you're really building a business but I would say the first real real real real business was my baseball card business I was eleven. By was twelve I was actually making three, hundred, seven, hundred, thousand, thirteen, some real significant one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty s money especially from. You know from our families point of view and so. That was my first real real businessmen since then I've. been. Building, I built my dad's business for him for basically twenty years, and then I started my own business with my brother. And I've been that's IT I've been very family business old school kind of living since that. I'm. I'm kind of pretend. You didn't say you had a chain of lemonade stamps. What is going on? Wait a minute don't just go over that. It can't just gloss over that. You had five. How are you running these things? Robbie turn Marissa Bird Michael Bronfman Andy Greco. On them at I would sit on Tinley Lane and Oak Tree Road in Edison New Jersey, and I would look at cars. This is actually crazy actually when I realized, I would tell this lemonade story in my early speaking career. About like my back story because nobody really knew who I was when it first started speaking and and. Out of nowhere one day probably the. Two, hundred time telling the story. I said Oh my God I forgot what I was doing during that time I was looking at cars driving on streets trying to figure out which tree or post was most likely GonNa be looked at, and that's where I would put my I signed an in this talk and it's not a recorded talk which really pisses me off because it'd be a great clip to show. It's literally the place where I recognized for the first time in my life that I have been following and paying attention to. My whole life that what I do today right now as I sit with you right now is what do I do for a living? I strategically understand where? Do. I. Best on seven point seven billion people. But I'm incredibly strong at three hundred million for America where two three hundred million. Americans actually pay attention to which APP which TV show which song which artist what with what owns the attention of America and how am I going to penetrate it? And speak the things I care about or my passions or my clients now with major media, and in that speech on that stage was when I realized Mike Hot I've been doing this my whole life I've been obsessed where where the attention is and then I would market communicate pontificate in those places and my success would be predicated on how good I was at that. I'm only as strong as I. Assed observations and I think that's kept me very tight and narrow because there's many things have assumptions on. But I don't know what I definitely do know how to market and how to one businesses. And businesses you did run but you created them you didn't just. Sweep in and say here, let me run this for you. you created a business called Razzie for. Two reservations that was bought by American. Express you at empathy wines. Tell me where you got these ideas as you observed. Resume was a huge victory hefty nine figure exit that me and Ben Lebanon Thal. My co-founder invented on a dinner one night when I had just raised some capital from Stephen Ross start a fund and he had just had a payout because his startup. Equity Eater and it was or some I think it was either some sort of start up that got bought up and we were cat was literally December twentieth. It was like one of my last meals of the before I went away for the holidays and we said we should do something together and at that dinner we said you know and he was so passionate about restaurants especially Manhattan. I. WE I don't recall and it was very joint. It's one of those. Really Great. Dialogue, Ping Pong back and forth leads to an idea it was hey, we should start something that helps people like Uber helps people on demand a car who would have ever thought a black car on demand. Well, getting a great seat at a restaurant. When you can't. It you know obviously there was open table which was an incredible platform but open table didn't allow you to actually get a seat at the twenty five to fifty places you wanted to or at least not at the good time slots for and so originally started as an idea this is backed up twenty. You talked about pivots originally started off as a place where. People could treat it like a first class flight on an airline, and you could actually get a table at whatever restaurant you wanted. We realized that that model was a nice business, but it was obviously a top five to ten percent finance person writes could afford it. And then we kind of as we got deeper into business realized that open table was old and not as strong as. One might think and we were able to pivot. Bat An eye and Mike Monteiro are co founder and were able to build a better. Platform a operating system for restaurants and it became a huge huge success. Empathy was easy. I'd always dreamed as a fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen year old. Of Owning my own winery at the time, it was much more Falcon Crest. You need I'll be old.

"Well, he said it on Fox business this morning President Trump, saying The Post office does need more money to handle the expected increase in mail in voting for the presidential election, and he says he's not going to give the money to the Postal Service. KCBS bring Central news line now and our KCBS political analyst Mark Sandalow, if is the sentences that he used made sense? Mark? That's my take on it. Yes, they need it. No, I'm not going to give it up. I mean, absolutely consistent with what he's been saying. Stand over the last couple of days to I mean, try to think of an analogy to tryto Think how what This argument sounds like It's like you're fighting with your spouse about whether or not you should go on a road trip. And the your spouse doesn't want to go. You do And she points out that the seat belts aren't in great working order you say Oh, okay, decent point, in fact that I was going to get that fixed anyways, Let's go get that fix and your spouse says no. I refused to get the seat belt checked. Therefore we won't go on a trip. That would be a funny way to do it. But that's precisely what the president said if the president believes And he's not alone in this that mail in ballots are not the best way to conduct an election. That's a legitimate argument once again to have and you lay it out there you say, Okay, here's what it would cost to make sure it's safe. Here's what you do to make sure there isn't foreign involvement here is what you do to make sure there isn't fraud. Is it worth it? Or is it not worth it? But instead? What the president said is, I don't want to do this mail in ballot business. I don't think I can win or Republicans, as he has said, are going to do well under mail in ballots. It requires more money. I'm not going to give you the more money simple as that, And it makes it a very difficult situation because while Congress is the one that would appropriate the money, the president is the one who would have to sign the budget and execute it happening. The current head of the current head of the post office, the postmaster general's guy by the name of Luis de Joy, who is a trump appointee. He is a Republican Party fundraiser, and he's made very clear that he's going to throw up obstacles in ways that people don't even think about, he's told secretary of State for example. That they're gonna have to pay for first class postage rather than third class postage, which is what they typically do, which will increase the cost by 2.5 times making even that much more difficult for states to do this, But this is already happening in my family. Nine days for a letter from my daughter in Texas to reach me 16 days and counting now for letter my wife sent to a friend in Humboldt County. To reach her. It hasn't gotten there yet Mark on the mail in question. The polling is strong on this. It's exactly like a lot of the other issues on which the president doubles down. Most of the country opposes him. And in this case, a percentage majority of Republicans but not the strongest majority I've ever seen. And the reason for that, And that's because, remember the president's big support is next Rural America. Rural America relies on the post office more than the rest of America does, And actually, while well, it may be medically unsound, and it may be inconvenient for people who live in cities to go to the polls. East is impossible or virtually impossible. For some other people live in remote areas. To do that. Malin is a tremendous alternative. That's what they've discovered when they do this up in your Washington and Oregon is tremendous boost, which is one of the reasons that when they studied this They're really doesn't appear this point to be a partisan advantage one way or the other. And like I say the president was sincere about the fraud issue. There's no reason that can't be addressed openly. What would it take to make sure that there isn't mail fraud? But the president also president who doesn't do a very good job of hiding his cards? Has also said specifically, if we go to male invalid, he hasn't think Republicans are going to win elections and therefore it's not gonna happen. That's not a solid argument in a democracy and the sad part about this is what he is doing is setting up. This scenario so that if the results are close, or if he loses by Ah lot or you know that he could say this was not a fair election. In fact, he's already warned. That's what he's going to do not think unnecessarily stay in office. But you can throw it in doubt enough. This is precisely what happened after you know the last couple elections where people have thrown up questions about whether the president was legitimate or not, And that's that. That's that's probably not good for the stability of the country. "We have some more audio actualities, as they say in the radio business, soundbite says they say in the television business now, Michael, where do you Where do you want to start with the next round here? Yes, OK, let's go to let's go to number eight. And this is President Trump. From yesterday being interviewed by the Fox Business Channel FB and Fox Business News. I guess FBN and which is a good station, by the way, you should check it out because it's it's you know, the business channels are different. You still get all the news but with screaming at each other, and and things like that. It's the business channels I think are in some ways they're calmer. Let's just say and I don't even know the guy the name of his interview and I know his face, but I don't even know his name. Not important right now. I'll try to find out President Trump on Fox business yesterday, talking about masks and this really upset the apple cart because he said he wears masks that he likes masks and nobody should be against masks. I don't know if you need mandatory because you have many places in the country where people stay very long distance you talk about social distancing, but I'm all for masks. I think that I would wear if I were in a group of people and I was close to you would I would, I would I have. I mean, people have seen me wearing one. A group of people where we're not 10 feet away, and usually I'm not in that position, and everyone's tested because of the president. They get tested before they see me minutes. Honestly, the master's eye I've seen Master people have seen me wearing masks. And, you know, I look like a superhero from long ago may not have no problem. Actually, I had a man like the way I looked okay. I thought it was okay. It was a dark black mask, and I thought it looked okay. Looked like the Lone Ranger. The reporter. The anchor is Blake Burman with Fox business, And I think he's pretty serious guy. An honorable guy. I do honestly. And he said, I looked like the Lone Ranger. I'm all I'm all for masks, he said. I wear masks said You don't need to all the time. I'm the president. Also there rules against politicians wearing hats see Michael Dukakis in the tank with the helmet. On. Certainly masks is a new variation on politicians wearing wearing hats because you're wearing the hat over your face, And that's a little different to President Trump talking about lunch bucket Joe Biden, who is promising to raise your taxes, They always lie and say It's not your taxes. It's just everybody else's taxes that I'm going to raise. But certainly not years vote for May. I'm lying to you. Now. Here's President Trump talking about Joe Biden increasing your taxes. If you do that, you're gonna crash the market. We have a market that's going to be, I believe by sometime early next year couldn't be sooner and record levels. You know what was it CNN? I don't know if we have that CNN audio, they say. Last month we regained 34% of the jobs that have been lost because of the Rue Han Red death. Which means if we had two more months like this would be back to the near full employment that we had under President Trump before the Wuhan Red came along, and that is the Democrats worst nightmare. An economic rebound is the Democrat. Worst nightmare. It's job. His worst nightmare was talking about President Trump about Joe Biden, raising your taxes and the actual effects that that will have. The Democrats don't know the media don't know they know, but they lie about it all the time. Here's President Trump. He just wants to raise everyone's taxes because they want to spend it on nonsense. They want to spend it on things that don't work. They want to give the money away, and I don't think people are going to stand for it. They want the Democrats want to raise taxes and is gonna ultimately be everybody's taxes that will kill the market..

Two thousand seventeen the left has sought to portray the tax cuts as a bad deal for the middle class. So he lays the groundwork down here that everyone has been saying that this is bad. Now, let me shift until you why it isn't now that they've taken back congress democr-. On Capitol Hill are holding hearings on Wednesday to quote examine how the middle class is faring while they will undoubtably use this hearing to score political points such a partisan who wrote this Alex Hendry. I don't know who that is. Undoubtably use this hearing score political points. The fact that the tax cuts have created unprecedented prosperity for the middle class in the form of higher wages, more take home pay more jobs and new employee benefits. So what they're suggesting is that the way these tax cuts have helped is not actually by providing tax cut benefits to the middle class. Well, they do claim that in here. But really the main benefits are that those who own the companies are making more money, and keeping or keeping more of the money that they've earned, and therefore they have more money. So I wanna continue job openings have now hit a record high of seven point three million and over three hundred thousand jobs were created last month a month as most private sector businesses continue to hire despite government shutdown. I just talk about what muckrakers do share my own little analysis. The closest I get to being a muckrakers. I do eat food that Muckraker should investigate. That's about it, actually. I know from meeting your pop tarts it would done. Those are fine. That's the nice thing about being a cult aren't burdened with having to think independently all the thinking has been done for you. And that is true. The problem is that when people are in. They can't tell that's one of the best things about cults people blind to them. But anyway, by the way, if any of you out there have a business or a brand you probably want online presence into do that you're going to need a website. But it turns out that a lot of people that run these things don't necessarily want to go to the trouble of learning how to make their own website. It's super difficult ice to back in high school. And there are great tools now that can make it way easier. Squarespace is one of those. We have previously promoted squarespace because people here at TI have themselves made. "Fox business i think it was yesterday senator jim inhofe had this to say and cut twenty about president trump and using these trade tariffs as a negotiation tactic but it gave you a minority opinion here is that no one else seemed to agree with is that i think he's suffering you left for a negotiations he he's been tell him for a year about getting a better deal in of the better trade ego it what better way to set up there gosheh asians than to do exactly what he's doing just this is the impression i get by being around this guy he he gets things done but he does a different way totally unorthodox but other gets what he's up here's the thing though and i write about this in the federalists in a piece entitled know trump's tariffs are not a master negotiation tactic in our press is this actually by saying that there is a stark difference between how he's acted on trade in some of these issues and how he's acting in terms of north korean has been acting in terms in north korea when it comes to north korea i think that this is something that could work out very well in terms of the president's effort to negotiate to meet and negotiate personally with kim jong the dictator in north korea in others old saying volkan proverb from star trek that only next thing to go to china well it seems like only trump can go to wherever they're going to meet with the north korean dictator we don't know that yet but likely not north korea so when it comes to the issue of trade and where it differs here is that you've seen consistency on the part of donald j trump with north korea they have been hammering the same message in and out the change in direction has been very small when he's made some complimentary remarks on kim dongmoon but he's been tough he's been consistent and he's been harsh in terms of the issue of north korea he's been harsh in terms of inflicting these trade sanctions and other types of sanctions on north korea in that's been effective he's been consistent that is important in coming into any sort of negotiation consistency important you also need transparency your actions any need specific goals that are laid out to achieve so for example president trump began this process through bashing china which is understandable china does engage in some unfair trade practices.
