Has Music Caught up to the 54 Flavors Sexual Revolution?

"We're not binary anymore As chuck Todd there's a whole spectrum of stuff going on out there LBGTQ why do you think they add the plus at the end They should add the multiple clashing sun times Because there's no end to it Remember when Facebook there were 54 flavors of genitalia and genitalia activity Remember that They paid so many a lot of money to do that And so let me try this I will embarrass myself in front of billions so don't hold it against me So here's how the song in modern days would go Should I do it mister producer or not I'm just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off of me I'm like heaven to touch oh I love me so much At long last love has arrived I'm just too good to be true I think that's enough Notice I really spoke it I didn't sing it But I think that's the new version I think we need to get the four seasons back here So they can sing it In fact there should be 54 versions of the song as I say I do not believe the music industry is caught up with the it's not even the sexual revolution It is the 54 flavors These love songs today they really add a date wouldn't you say millennial cons Right You are too good to be true and so are you and you and you shouldn't that be a new song mister producer You like that one

"AP sports I'm David Shuster, one game in both the NBA and NHL playoffs Sunday and they were completely different from a competitive standpoint. We start in the NBA with geth and kuba filling us in on Miami and Boston. The Miami Heat cruise to a three O series lead in the Eastern Conference Finals after blowing out the Boston Celtics one 28 one O two at home in game three. Gabe Vincent pace the heat with a playoff career high 29 points on 11 of 14 shooting. Caleb Martin added 18 points, Jimmy Butler scored 16 and bam adebayo 13. Boston stars Jayson Tatum and jaylen Brown were held to 14 and 12 points respectively on a combined 12 of 35 shooting. Miami can clinch its second NBA Finals birth in four seasons with a win in game four Tuesday. And now over to hockey with Mark Myers reporting on Las Vegas and Dallas. Chandler Stephenson scored early in overtime to give the golden knights a three to two win over the stars and a two O series lead the knights were able to tie the score in the final minute of regulation on a goal by Jonathan Marshall, Aiden hill made 26 saves in the Vegas nets, Jake Avengers stopped 21 shots for the stars who were now zero in four and overtime games this postseason. Turning to baseball, Houston completed a three game sweep of Oakland Sunday's final two zero and how bad are the a's well they're on pace to lose 138 games which would be a record. Other highlights Sunday Oscar Mercado with 5 RBI St. Louis ten 5 over the Dodgers and Cedric mullin 5 hits Baltimore 8 three over Toronto. To golf and Brooks Koepka won his 5th major title, he won the PGA Championship by two shots. That was good. Yeah, this one's this one's definitely special. I think this one's probably the most meaningful of them all with everything that's gone on, all the other crazy stuff over the last few years, but it feels good to be back and get number 5. And in auto racing, Spain's Alex pillow captured the pole position for this year's Indy 500. I'm David Shuster, a P sports.

Finding Beauty in God's Timing

"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart. Yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes three versus 11 through 12. I lived in the Midwest of the United States almost my entire life up until two years ago. We would experience all four seasons, but it usually went something like this. 5 to 6 months of winter, two to three weeks of spring, four to 5 months of summer in two to four weeks of fall. I have to admit, winter was always my least favorite season and out of all the seasons and in the Midwest, it is the longest. I remember waiting for spring to come with great expectation. But come January, I would usually grow extremely impatient and ready to pack my bags and move our family to somewhere much warmer. Honestly, it was one of the main reasons our family did end up moving a thousand miles away to start a new chapter in the sunshine state. For many of my friends and family, they are longing for the warmer temperatures of spring to make their appearance in stay. Soon enough, the fresh leaves will fully cover what were barren branches and flowers will be in full bloom. None of us have to worry if the seasons are going to change because they always do. God is a master artist like that and has it all under control. Just like seasons are set to a specific time that God ordains. So are events in our life. And on and even bigger scale, our journey with him as it unfolds. Only he knows how to take a rebellious heart of stone and transform it into a heart of flesh that praises his holy name. This profound reality of God forming a life and one who learns how to deny self and worship the lord is not an overnight event. No, just like seasons change in their own time, the change of a life for the glory of Christ is a process. In God's perfect timing, we will begin to see the transformation.

Biden's New Mortgage Rule Punishes People With Good Credit

"New rule that's going to be instituted on May 1st. Around something called an LLP, a loan level price adjustment. Under the guise of equity pushing towards equity, Fannie and Freddie, which should have been disassembled after the 2008 financial collapse, the federal backed mortgages are now going to make a new rule. Congress didn't vote on this. There wasn't a hearing on this. This would not go through a reconciliation process. This did not go through amendments or adjustments or House representatives or senators. No, no, no, these are unelected bureaucrats making a unilateral decision to punish you if you have good credit. This right here is an all out penalty. A walloping. If you have decided to engage in delayed gratification and those of you maybe in this audience that have made bad decisions, gone on vacations, you can't afford max out your credit cards to go to four seasons, going to steakhouses and you have bad credit because you made bad decisions. Well, here's where the new regime comes in. Now all PAs are price adjustments to a loan reflecting how risky it is. If you have good credit, traditionally you pay less. Obviously, you've proven you can do it. If you have bad credit, well then you're going to pay more because you got to prove to the bank. You got to prove to the lender that you're a good bet. But no, no, no, no, because of equity. The whole game has changed. This new rule says that if you have bad credit, you pay less. And if you have good credit, you pay more. You heard me right. We are changing the game. We are the moral fabric of the country has already basically gone. But now this is just another reflection of the moral fabric being gone. No longer are we a country where we want to say good job. Dutiful citizen for saving money, not going out to eat every night for going to the grocery store for using coupons. For investing, now we are going to punish you if you've made good financial decisions.

Boris Epshteyn Reacts to Ron DeSantis' Latest Interview

"Talk about the disaster that is Alvin Bragg, but first things first. A couple of disastrous interviews for Ron DeSantis without pathetic individual peers and Morgan, then he didn't exactly shower himself with glory with my colleague at Eric bolling, and then Ron DeSantis had this comment to make, which I found rather amusing. This is cut 5 baron your reaction. So here's the thing, I think these are people who are in the political class, journalists class, politicians, and like D.C. in particular, they get mad, I don't do the cocktail parties. I don't like rubbing elbows with other people. I like doing my job and then spending time with my family. That's just what I do. A lot of the people that are criticizing, you know, they would say, oh, he doesn't do well with donors. He doesn't glad him with him. And yet I raise more money than any non presidential candidate in the history of America. Are you kidding me? So we tend to do. We do well. But I do think that ideal better with regular people than I do with some of the people in the political class. Help me out here, mister senior adviser for the Trump 2024 campaign. Allegedly, the governor of Florida doesn't like robbing elbows with donors, doesn't do the cocktail circuit, but he didn't speak at cpac because he wasn't a big fundraiser. I'm confused. Help me out, baron. There is anything to use a considering that he just had a few weeks ago I had a whole concept multi day concept at a very decrepit, very every day, very middle American resort called the four seasons in Palm Beach, Florida. This is absolute typical establishment nonsense like Mitt Romney used to find in an airplane to Iowa and get into a get into a fancy car. Find those private jets, get into a fancy limo and then get into a Chevrolet to go to a rally. Typical inauthentic old school politics, which has failed time and time again and it is not what the American people want. The American people want authenticity from president Donald J Trump.

"Stat of the game. James conner has outscored chase edmunds in full in five straight games as but is this james connor game it because if it's close i've got on their schedule. So far i've got three close games. One of them was the jacksonville game. They did win by twelve but it was close pretty late in the fourth quarter midway through in three close games. He does not have more than eleven carries in any of those game. So has he earned. That though is the bigger part of that you know. Is this james connor game dave. I'll let you start. I think every game is a james connor game. I think what we're looking at from this arizona. Offense is that james connor still. I know last week was a little bit different. It was a blowout against houston. And we saw chase. Edmunds play a ton of snaps. I think it was a season i forum. I think it was a season high for him at like right around seventy percent and it was a season low for connor. But i think that had to do with just the the cardinals wanting to get edmonds a little bit more work. He had fifteen carries ninety total yards. Everybody was happy with what edmonds did. Connor scored it wasn't even a short yardage touchdown. He had to work a little bit to get it. I think he's still got that short yardage goal line role on lock. He's there bully back. And maybe in this game against the packers. He's also going to be the closer different types of closer for this game against green bay versus what chase edmunds was in a laugher against Houston so i still like honor better. I like his chances to score..

"Was the business. It's so interesting at age and also your pension courage that it's very unique very my most people in the in the business a lot of people giving because they had sam. That's there's a lot of this where the family had a restaurant and family. Alan family mom or dad. That was in a position. Hunt says at awesome one thing in in wrapping up. I am curious to how do you help. People develop as leaders and as their books are courses or material that you recommend something. She cynically working on how to coach better. So how do i coach leaders so you know. I got this book a disguise from silicon valley bill campbell trillion dollar coach coach like google. But i assure especially from your experience as treat gas in the staff's awhile because how you think about that articles. I read some books as great book of question. That's a great cohan's down a more beautiful question. Great question about not talking so much and asking questions to draw things out. That's a it's a lot. It's a lot about emotional intelligence being aware that your actions and words can be perceived by others to be careful about that conversations. 'compensation really coaching delegating. Certain things being constructive honesty back exposing people think spe would exposed do otherwise. That's a really peace over here. You know we allow people who go from start in a non national position. Most of us were worked. Outweigh up so as you advance. You know the the things that are important for success change. It's really kind of technically focused early on or so. Potentially sales focused early on. And that as you begin to lead the people do it because more important to you now to inspire people and solve problems for cassava things you talked about earlier in the conversation people to understand that they need to see things differently. Yeah in their new role. Let people make mistakes and cuts are or or to state rule but some bites mindset chefs for example his simple example of that. Because if you're if you're working as front desk your such share your your work at eight hour shift to check. It'd be really focused on shifts right and more of your time. We'd cuts generalist aging for example. When you become when you moved from receptionist shift manager or even a department head of department one of the things. I teach people is. You can't just walk out the door for the day without thinking about what's coming next at least sixteen hours because you gotta you gotta come in the next day and you gotta make sure you got everything covered at least halfway through the next day because you have to use the start thinking ahead and you have to predict what's coming out to repair and adjust and so you have to expand your time line a little bit further and they'll be example getting somewhat at change. I really think about their job as it transitioned to the next to the electoral does that makes sense. Yeah like jim rohn quote from back in the days to get every you all everybody else. Get what they want. Yeah that's a good one. I think the the big takeaway from us all you know at the end of this. You just care you care about yourself you care about staff you care about the guests in you know you find other people that you can hire that care about the same things that matter to your business. Kiribati interested to they're inquisitive. There's a term sufficiently inquiring mind people with sufficient room Kind of question everything. Those people are gonna change the question everything and you just on things out of the net zorba love working with people like that interview questions us and then i'll leave it at that interview questions that you asked people because you give me a question of like right there i was like oh what are you learning learning and then you kind of see how people are you know wanting to grow or not. I try to spend a lifetime particularly with the leaders. I tried to spend a lotta time asking them questions about the people on their team. Specific questions about jayme coach and woes. The reason for that was the outcome was strategy. You're telling people academia what what's a personal lives because if you wanna get to that trust and respect way the person acetate me interested murphy undercover cover. How much of a connection may have with the people that lead over people that they work with. That's a really important kind of line questioning. Allied saying Questions about about values of turned out the incredibly powerful with the question. We asked them as you know. We have a decade cards and it's got values of the cards last summer. What that's say five Or work and lie that really draws lathi for a lot of people and then you ask a couple of questions and he starts about people's upbringing and their family of debt and seeing values and mary always will be this and i live by that rule. Now when you hear that near that from somebody it's it's probably a pretty authentic answer and it gives you a la half an inch the that they really try to live by that. You can get so bad. The county for people who value respect trust. yeah camaraderie integrity teamwork if people can speak to those things. Then it gives it gives a lot conference speedway wanna work with really. You want people to have a positive out on rice. Think about how much time we spouted jar more time with with some as people with and i would rather be around. Those people have positive outlook on lights and having integrity work with them and if we could go team life that that's a big part of the mission i think having missions also really important you know. What are you doing this for like you know. I was talking with a friend yesterday. He was our company that trying to change indication. Our app sooner dot com. We're trying to change entrepreneurship. And i love. Seeing people will start companies or businesses and You know you guys are amazing guest experiences. Yeah yeah we want people. You know to have their lights and rich leading variance of ad. That can some is simple as just the conversation that they have with a member of the staff. We get those comments all time. You know sarah at the front desk just so raising so pot for and and you know mayor say special or you know daniel restaurant in certain he took an interest in our in our child and other example suit where individuals Conversation right can do little special tach next time. You just got to get a list. Despite the list ahead of time from everybody makes me. Actually i but an interesting idea.

"Again that those are valuable insights that normally the staff is like i. Just try to those things out as you go right and if somebody just me arrest we can all read weekends a lot. Easier to get it right. So in his case rude obnoxious this is kind of sodas and there was a big flag on there. But aside from that it's kinda nice down where a rock band comes through. You get a writer and you know it's got all the things they need and that's perfect because all you gotta do go salary during the way they asked. Check off you know. That's a lot easier. Here they start rather of off fish prowling around trying to try to pick up rollins things so there's a lot of things in the good thing about four seasons as by the time the band's can afford to stay with us saves usually bad behavior. The most leopard doesn't get it. It's interesting. I am curious again. You know how to use set goals of this team was thinking if you came to run our software. I like one that you started early in college career growth and when i started the company who just like five of bucks. I didn't care about growth. Just work in house fine and you do stuff. And and that's something that in our recent Three sixty review. A lot of people are like why aren't more growth and it was good. I didn't i was. I was surprised. So i am curious. If you had to run our company like a software like a ton of totally different industry what things would you bring over. From four seasons in terms of operation leadership day you know yearly planning definitely bring our data to lessen and it sounds like you do does read sixty heard from your staff answer. That's a that's an important part for goal. Setting pass formally and broadly aren't executive committee. Eight or nine eight or nine litres and we typically do a off site today retrieved january and organiz our goals for the year. That typically happens before any of the goals about from our appropriate. So it's kinda nice. It's fresh it's ours. What we believe in what we believe is going to move their business forward. Make make a successful for the year understanding situation that we see arrows and we organized that basically in three buckets product. That's the way it's been organized. Lodhi companies for nearest what. I grew up how i grow in. This company has seen those things organized. And it's useful and we probably spent two thirds of the half time like people next forty percents on product about ten percent on profit to be honest with you because the prophets gonna follow the other things just why we spent last time on frost. Yeah question to answer to that exactly not the profit of it's not outward jaded but it's easier to probably manage and control the focused more on the revenue well in goal setting if we spent fifty percents the because that's the hardest part of it manage understand takes. The products follows the people. And then there's creativity elements that or some. You know some metrics that we've seen needed proof you know from just surveys. Something with the people sided metrics that we have and data from jerry from the staff. That might help us identify things you know. The profit side of his. It's less about coming up with these things in. It is managing the nuts and bolts of it on a day to day basis ear so there's revenue management that we do every day every week and there's not to reinvent there i don't think and it's the specialty. I guess part of that juniors specialty respond part of a team so yeah exactly been leadership team their executive jane. Everybody's involved in in people a pretty large percents is the ball directly and products and the prophet Just a smaller group of people to some extent. Why like when you're going. That's actually. I wanna keep going with how you run a company and think about it but i think that's actually fascinated. Is that the people at the end of the day. Lead the prophet so if you can get the people equation right. And they are executing the playbook right and the generally the prophet can follow that really. Well what about your books. On leadership is the score will take care of itself. The bill walsh and he really focuses on. You can't control the game in the fumbles and things like that but you can control your playing the game but all right. So you're still running your company see on twice-yearly planning people process was at their peak pods got. Oh probably in that order and you're our new. Ceo lissi figuring out what success looks like. And how we're going to track that right as the new ceo out. I don't know enough about your company. Now what is success in all about driving profit trying to try to build it up Built up and expand it. You got understand some of those things those things by change to the united states whether or not it's the same as it will show right so look at look at the structure of the staffing. And make sure you don't have any gaps in where where the holes game comes mostly from listening time by from financial statement. You know you might find. Financial statement is under performing a segment of the business and then had organized in and right. Look at the people out at team. What are the players. Seeing players critically important ally said together. What's the knowledge as was arrived. Perspectives that exist are missing something. Because you don't have a strike particular functional aspects of the business marketing director right. You have something to do. They do it. They were very good at this. But the business needs are evolved to something different as different skill set. You need or can you at a support structure or give this personna away to gain insight clinton alright. The right players on a genius is critical. Making sure is a clear mission. Everybody's behi- making sure that the people who are not the leaders are are excited about following the leaders and examining the health of the of the culture mindset of team. Look at maybe looking for some low hanging fruit How did you know you wanted to be in hospitality. I would say when. I was a young lad i never thought of it as a profession. Like someone told me. This is probably about fifteen years ago. Like i'm studying hospitality. I'm like what do you think be nice. You mean. Stand at the door and you open the door for them and what. I realized that my career so far about halfway in it is that.

"There is a very powerful message back about less important that these people will come to work for us and It's one of the ways. We got to our leaders to actually importance of bath. That's really what's going to make a difference for these people and ultimately guest and what we found in doing in doing that group process was we rejected more people were perspectives and we had a or probably a or precise understanding of what we needed to hear from his vehicle through the process. And we have much better retention. We've had much better retention for ninety days late year retention once people get past a year to the retention is much better three tend to see this. This is not changed a whole lot over the last couple of generations. one someone's establish they tend to stay for a really long time so eighty percent of the sas very stable and in twenty percents that as the term and some of those natural. You hire you hire college students to certain jobs and you know that's gonna turn because they're gonna graduate so some of that's natural but if we could do a little bit better jobs during the first year from from twenty percent to fifteen or ten percent that's going to help us out considerable. How do you approach. It starts by rejecting more people and getting a better higher. And that's what i'm saying. That group interviewing process move the dial a little bit in terms of us hiring horlick stack so it all starts in the beginning. Then it's not the retention easier if you do better filtering for sure and then once you got the retention back really adds fat to direct supervisor. The culture that's created within an individual department and a lot of facts again because that's the person's in most directs experience and and what it's since their satisfaction was directly is environment their adverse. Learn about this staff in a restaurant staff asked in the housekeeping staff in the lottery or the valet. Parking status groups are separated that way and stifles about and that's generally how leaders are allocated in a by department a lot of the way that you guys run in terms of like career growth in operation is that mandated from corporate is like. Hey here's a book that you know in terms of the culture and the questions also just how where we operate. The hotel are frameworks. Either frameworks for sure. You know there's a kind of a was a set of goals beliefs and principles which are which are well well floor a statement saying for a long long time and then there are. There's some frameworks about leadership behaviors and have staff behaviors. That help guy or culture you know. It's up to us to interpret halloway. Put those things in the practice though. Really big guest parameters Types of nj to do when he checks into their real but the language that jews in order and so forth there kind of up to us. implemented an update really up to the individual cases individual staff member. Can you give me an example of some of these frameworks or principles. That haven't changed. Goals believes the principal. So it's who we are We're only gonna operate medium size hotels residents of central a what we believe our people. Our greatest asset gaidar success. How as you know. Rea- perform us roy where we work together properly respecting just contribution and Mutual respect we succeed win. Rahab clear understanding of our objectives. And and you know when we provide great service. It'll it'll appropriate profitability kind of paraphrasing bagels. Police suppress schools when you get into more. Specific kind of culture frameworks. It's things like being inclusive. there's actually a little guideline there. Which i bet reading talks about creating trust as empowering equal communicating clearly investing in development elaborating best-in-class results innovating adapting leading doing right saying creating high performing teams. And you know so. Those are tired of frameworks that kinda give us direction. It's up to us to figure out how nurture goes things and how we get people dramatic And howie courage. The leaders to inspire most of that follows on our team to track medicate. What's the balance of. There's honestly a framework of like. Hey when a guest comes in we're gonna you know. Follow this process riders definitely on his desk procedures. That are too. Where's the balance of following process. Frameworks and then. You know the flexibility that you can have to explore within that. Yeah so we don't want anything to base scripted relied. We want the individuals who work here on the staff to use a personalities. We don't wanna try to say you gotta use this language exactly. It's a luxury environment. So what people to use thoughtful to say sophisticated but saw fall at appropriate language. And so there's that that guide but within ask your leave at to somebody to use personality to make the engagement yell natural and for it to be natural. Just your outright at right a great front desk receptionist or or or sir will need to try it out. Read or ascertain you know the preferences of the individual guests so they modify behavior to make the guest feel comfortable. It's not that we expect to guest to help us. But the stat needs to needs to be able to be savvy nas to take the signals from guests figure out from outside our normal standards to meet the needs of the guest so if we if we have a way to do something and the guest wants us wants to be treated differently from that. And that's our we're going to treat because and the staff's gotta figure out how to make those interpretations during like crazy demands are what like. That's that's a bit much gas. You come across this in a long time. But he had stayed here. Eric other hotels that have worked along the way i'd seen this guests From time to try. It was brian to map. Page lists things like things that he didn't like didn't what by day you know doesn't need another service writes a kinda crazy and along the road pretty rude but on the other hand. We don't have to guess when he writes in dozen light. Particular list was pretty ridiculous. The one i'm thinking. I don't use on their leasing like certain amenities are items aided and certain places around or injury from the room if he does laundry. Come back certain way. Pack is a certain way.

"People have to door. That would come in every morning. They would meet with somebody at a desk and robbie and in the afternoon. Both of them would come back in a lot of stairs and make big money for college or whatever whatever there was yeah and you know we had that we had that military leaders of saudi arabia generals in there and they would be doing the From tauro pregnant biggest was complicated exhausting. Working twenty hours a day for weeks straight sleeping rollaway bed in my office in between but great great memories really interesting. What about a guest story. Because i definitely heard some crazy stuff about the links potentially gone to make more comfortable in not maybe a crown prince like i guess maybe you guys have rules around that or can your can establish a foreseen. Do whatever they want. Or how does that work. I think job they can just about anything. They want to be legal and ethical. And you know typically you know. Some of things are if the hours to that in relationships augusta spending some extent a lot of the things that we organized for people. You're at the guests on expense. I mean you know. The things that are most meaningful are are actually smaller. Things like somebody leaving something behind and running. Stop average getting car and drive at houston her dallas or something like that. We do not from time to time. If it's important to summary we've couple of Very tragic incidents where the families Someone who died in his stay here staff the best very meaningful things for the families find gets specific enough. There is a member of the bill. Jerry who was killed on the family had stayed here and wildlife. staff members. Serve didn't save bridge so that the family had wanted. There was a documentary or a piece of paper that that they wanted to have preserves and One of the staff members took the doctor bank and built up and put the document and air sealed it up and in a couple of members of staff participated together to ads just a very meaningful the mental for the family. That was one that happen unless fall during those are awesome. I mean one thing. I'm curious about is the four seasons approach so i was curious. Let's say today. You got transferred to motel six and then you renamed it motel seven right like now. We're going to go one better hotel stuff. What i'm trying to get at is like i'm just how you approach running Running things in culture and staff hiring so if you were transferred to a motel six and a half today like i guess how would you approach managing that property. Start by talking to people. Sit saying what the what they felt about. The current situation was and they light. Did like this could be done better. You saw a lot of problems out a really good simple example is gone out of the kitchen and making sure that cook Spatulas and even prongs and you know bad things like that or the bartender glasses. Housekeepers or have a robust supply lennon. So they don't have to wait. You know when you saw like that. That's kind of like having hot water for the guests. Certain things you have to have bad hot water for the staff. They need to have certain places you start and that's one of those things where where here you listen. You saw a problem and you start you start. Gaining confidence trust respects. And when you have confidence trust and respect we still having some dialogue around like most companies around diversity. Risen blogging middle last year. And we didn't have people working here so adding avenues. Great conversations with four five six together and our director buteau contra myself and people were so forthcoming and really meaningful power stations. The context deeper understanding the variety of perspectives and allows not not just on the social justice. Issues that are gone out topic and people were only forthcoming. Because it o'brien our culture director. And i you know. We both been here long time and we worked really hard trust. We would say people were really great. Share and numerous people came out so us only. Because you know we trust we trust that. You're doing us for reasons and you know not just not. Just check a box or something. Yeah so i like what you're saying one thing you said i thought that was really was. It's the small things. Because i do notice that it's like oh well they did this one crazy but sometimes it's like hey wrote a out or we gotta jay and i do like this thing that you're encouraging again. It's i think it's it's it's simple advice. It's not used something that we were like overcomplicating it in our businesses. Which is you know how does ask yourself wrote to the staff to the you know the frontline last how to improve. I think one thing. I am jewish about you know with the you know every company. I like our business your business. How do you go about your hiring and retention. it's a. It's a really good question because if our people our our web drives our product that we've got to have the right people and so it's critical for the last three years. We've always pretty robust interviewing process so initially anyone we hired would go through four areas. They got a screening interview department. Badger ready working. They ever talk to the senior leader and not division and ben either myself or the hotel beans. From the time. I started thirty years ago. That was traditionally away rehired the what that process and their housekeeper. Dishwasher director barth. They're gonna go at least that process about three years ago. We change it up a little bit and replaced the final gerard views. We're so i replaced the final two interviews with a panel interview. And so we would cluster the once a week. We have the aperture Usually for five applicants and we were together and exercise mostly around around people's values and we have a panel of observers from the staff As acilitator and conversational facilitated for about forty five minutes to different exercises rents around values and some of those exercises air required the grip to work together as a team and they had once a exercises in kind of a two day around the exercises when stein usually about forty five fifty minutes. People are in their in the group observers. We would leave and go back and we would discuss each one candidates and basically every everybody who was on a battle kinda. Give it a hell. Yes we don't hire that. I and i love that process. One of the things that that was really great how that was the values that probably eighty ninety percent of the people came up with. Were trust respect integrity. Honesty may be fun at workplace things like that and so the value was very clear that the values that that we healthier. We're the values that were important to the people that were hiring. One thing that did for the panelists make us realise to live up to those expectations. Were gonna retain. These people me included is.

"Future episode lever review wherever you listen to show a check every single one of them. The reason i called started is woman. We work with controller. Was she worked at. Four seasons waikiki. For somewhere in hawaii seasons line. Maybe you're were and she said it was the best run company. She's ever been a part of. And i was like yes so i google how does foresees run. And i couldn't find anything. So i figured maybe i could talk to someone at become Learn a little bit on the inside but how you guys run about not rocket science. I don't think you're gonna learn a whole lot. You can learn. I reading leadership or something right back. Amtrak's what do you think it is like. You said it right now. You spend a lot of time passing down bridgestone kind of wisdom urge you spend your time. Coaching people on teaching. It's just a people business and our products really is the service that read provide which comes from the staff so the root of our successor barriers gonna come from you know the staff and experiencing and just salad gable have their place of work and be positive about about life and about what they're doing and let translates experience as interviewing a young man yesterday. Said what's russell. Instead of happy happy sas and happy sas yields the app. I guess as although those stats double. So we'll get those junior jaffe. But that's the florida really. Is ben the formula since nineteen sixty when the company was formed. It's complicated for formed on the concept of the golden rule obituaries fact and treating people to be treated. Changing how people favorite about saints drives. You were about how you doing some exotic. Yeah i run a popular. Software company called zoom dot com. It's interesting i is. It is actually much more simple than we all make it but we also wanna overcomplicating where i know for myself. I'm looking for secrets. I wanna secret that that you're doing that. I need to know but maybe it is really that simple. Keep the people that work. There is super happy and your customers. Super happy right. That's that's how it works. And i think you know one of the hardest parts about it and exacerbated in our industry over the last eighteen months is just finding during that the space needs space to have conversations the space to allow people to be included in john and you know space to develop the mindset emotional intelligence of the leader of relief. Jet james has yeah. How about the conversation. That's probably the hardest heart era. Has somebody priorities. You have guests in front of you all the time you know. How do you find. I'm in the car vow opportunities for gauge conversation and that's one of the hardest things hired out in everyone yellow. We've gone through this horrible downcycle in zero people working in more pressure from from a financial perspectives. To control wear costs expenses big fat. But if we don't make space for it services gonna suffer cultures going to suffer and that's the hardest part and bringing believers along the journey make should understand how important this you know. Ultimately individual satisfaction jarvis is determined most directly by persons. Supervising that day. In and out. Right you boss. Susan jerk your last gonna be miserable. Bosses stop falling. You know our attributes respects mrs to you. Say and you much better experience at work. And you'd be much posited and that's it's about nurturing and and make people understand you know how critical those types of behaviors are so talk about. I try to you know. It's that and some specific examples over the years. You know things that i failed out loud from. What are some four seasons stories or four seasons examples that that. You're thinking of that. That represent foreseen that in your tenure things that you're proud of. Release your staff or just things that come to mind the thing that i most of the most satisfaction from seeing people seeing people developed in their careers decorative grows and Yeah and go on to achieve goals. I mean that's incredibly sound sign. I better beneficiary of that culture organization. They're the copies for twenty eight years. I started as a success manager and moved up through the rights and energy. Michael this was. I never had a goal and daughter. Corporate office always wanted to read great to see people along and we're fortunate because we got hired twenty hotels around the world very active program recruiting and transferring from my head so loud people have had a goal to to river. Different parts of the world have different. Experiences affords them the opportunity. And that's one of the ways of advancing more quickly to be able to have the opportunity to go from one location to another so soon to see you know. People who live be successful is any any people. Cynically come to mind for hotel managers. Which is you know that the second in command you know. They kind of lead the operation a little bit more. So i've had four hours and on the first three or general managers forcing so tell us ran out. Michael pettis in boston. Janice jackson hole. Beverly mcgee is in baltimore. She's actually original vice president we boss vasic and ah i got caught up in the in the last last year. He landed on his feet. And your general manager the bears in mexico so Opened his own. So good trump not with the company unfortunately although run by an expert seasons person so dance family. They're still so you know there's probably the lincoln out of any guests stories that come to mind in your tenure. I can just go on forever. View coogan storage. There's one of the ways i start. This conversation by francis. People say must have stories. And i take a band or country or something at all. Take it from there The things that stick out of mind over the breath the my career we we are the crowd prensa. Saudi arabia stay with us during the gulf war and he was there for our wait any was visiting george w bush at his ranch in crawford state this dish three hundred grand for a week and they stayed manner saudi schedule so day nights kind of slipped and just a week's were the eric story could possibly imagine from setting out the the big suites to be suitable for the crown prince society arabia. "For joining us. Thanks so much for having me rick. This is really exciting to be on the show relatives fighting for me to talk to somebody. Who's ben tula sue. Because honestly i've always looked at the map. And i see those little dots in south africa first of all. How does south africa happen. Which is a very strong and powerful country. There's a couple of little countries like this right embedded in the middle of the country. Yes swaziland is kind of tucked over by the side and they have a little bit of mozambique. I believe bordering one side of them. But let's sue is totally encapsulated. It's its own enclave nation. Right there in the middle of south africa is it kinda like we'd have an indian reservation in the middle of the united states that was considered a country. Yeah that i mean that might be an interesting parallel there. The history of it kind of comes from this. I king of lesotho to who was a guy named hsi-wei king mishmash way the first who was a very charismatic leader of the nation. There he kind of got. The country started back in the mid eighteen fifties. He had gathered various tribes and kind of farmer collectives altogether in this area and developed this nation and Over time there were had conflicts with various other tribes of conflicts with the british and over all the years mishmash was able to maintain the sense of national identity. There and after having a couple encounters with the british and repulsing the british eventually came to an agreement with them to say. Hey we we are willing to work out an agreement with you guys and become a british protectorate but we want to maintain our sense of national identity and roughly how big is lawsuit to and how many people live there. So there's about two million people there. And i've seen some comparisons saying it's about the size of maryland. Okay something like that. So it's not not that big of a place that i guess. Compared to south africa it looks small. But that's a substantial amount of land to drive across it. Would it be like fifty miles across or hundred miles across I think it's bigger than that. But the issue in that is very mountainous country right and so the roads. Once you get up into the mountains the roads are very rough and so it can take a long time to get from one side of the country to another generally speaking when we would come into the capital city of macedo and where we were living which is a very rural area called mahat long. It would take pretty much most of a day to get from one side of the country to you know. That's one thing. Travelers need to remember. If you've been in germany and you you're going to go from a to b. There's probably going to be a autobahn there. You're going to average eighty miles an hour I remember when i was going to be in india or nepal averaged six miles an hour. I remember it took me. I thought oh sixty miles. that's not. It took me ten hours and that's not because there was traffic jams. It's just that's the way it is so much of the developing world anyways You gotta be really conservative about how much ground you can cover in a given amount of time mcgrath. Introduces us to listen to in his book. Everything lost his found again. His website is will mcgrath dot net. So we'll how did it happen that you ended up living in the suit so my wife is a cultural anthropologist and her research is based there in the country of she does work with aids and hiv and she does work with family structures and ken ships and child care and orphan care and so unfortunately To sits at this intersection of her two main research interests. So that's initially what brought us there was looking at how families are adapting to the hiv. Pandemic in you went along as the spouse in your writer and you decided to write a book. Yeah i i mean i. I'm not sure. I was necessarily thinking of writing a book from the beginning but i was excited to go along and learn about this place that i knew nothing about and to see a very different part of the world from from what i knew so yeah i was initially along kind of along for the ride and then along the way i did things like i taught high school for a while there and we were both kind of connected with a local ngo in this rural area. So i would help out at this place sometimes so. Tell us the gist of your book. Everything lost is found again Wh what inspired you to suddenly say. I'm gonna put pen to paper and share what i'm learning or what what's your gender with the book. Yeah well i think in the west we have. We have very stereotype notions about what africa is an. I'm kind of using you. Know air quotes around that word. In general so i wanted to to really look at. What was this country this very specific part of lawsuit to in a certain way. I was inspired by. There's a nigerian writer. Jim amanda ghozi a. She wrote an essay a couple years back about how in the west we have the single story of africa. You know all we kind of know. Is this cliche notion of general tragedy. Some sort of generalized suffering in some way so that was so different. From what i encountered. They're over our time there. So i i wanted to be part of the solution to what outta cheese writing about to avoiding the single story of rakha. I wanted to get into what the you know. The specifics of this gorgeous country of lesotho to and to really kind of get into the granularity of the human experience of what life is like there and especially to celebrate you. The joyfulness that i saw there. I mean it would be wrong to look away or to ignore certain tragedies that are happening. you can't avoid that. But i think it's important to represent and celebrate all the good things that happen to show the kind of happy hilarious mundane parts of life. That's something that i think is is really a challenge for a lot of us because in america we think well being is preceded by material your material well-being and there's not a lot of material well-being in much of the world and we can if we find joyfulness in the poor world we can. We can tend to romanticize it But i think there is a lot of joy in a world where people would never own a car or or have a fancy house and that unless you go there and you sit around you talk about people telling dirty jokes. I mean it's interesting to think of american and laughing dirty jokes these people. Are you talking about.
