How Virginia Became Ground Zero in the American Culture War

"Virginia, which is now being called a blue state, how long is it going to be blue? Or is it going to stay that way? Again, the counties around Washington, D.C. are reliably blue for a variety of different reasons. The first reason of course is its proximity to the power center to the kingdom of Washington, D.C.. The second is the amount of universities that are in Northern Virginia, which is extraordinary. If you look at the amount of universities in D.C. and Virginia, the third of which is, of course, the fact that a lot of first generation low wage worker immigrants move to Northern Virginia to be able to make the life of luxury possible for so many people that live in Northern Virginia. And many, many of the refugee resettlement programs and the immigration, the mass immigration programs come to Northern Virginia, which has resulted in a totally different political type atmosphere to win an election in Virginia. And so Virginia Democrats have been able to win, reliably by running up the score Northern Virginia, being able to win in Richmond and win on the Virginia coast. The rest of Virginia is very conservative, by the way. Lynchburg is very conservative, Blacksburg isn't because of Virginia tech, but Virginia, Virginia used to be a very conservative state. Charlottesville is obviously not very conservative because the University of Virginia, Blacksburg is Virginia tech, Charlottesville is University of Virginia Lynchburg's Liberty University which is actually a pretty conservative area. Richmond is a very, very Democrat area, and so Virginia seemed dead on arrival for years. There have been great candidates before, running for governor as Republicans, and they always get disappointed. And right, of course, the current governor of Virginia's give and a Ralph northam of Virginia and he won against a pretty good candidate who was the Republican canon in 2017. I can't remember Virginia's goofy. Virginia has elections in off years for their statewide elected officials. So 2017, 2021, 2013, they do every four years and in coming up in a couple weeks, is the Virginia governor's race. And Democrat operatives all across the country, they are going a full court press they are trying to California recall the Virginia race. They're going all in. They're raising money they're bringing in surrogates, so Terry mcauliffe, who is the corrupt Clinton surrogate and wants to be governor of Virginia, I think, again, he was governor once, right? Years ago. He says, look, yesterday I had Jill Biden here. I've had Stacey Abrams. Now, let me just say this. What constituency gets excited about having Stacey Abrams I've got Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance bottoms. Oh, I see the type. He's building a constituency on how to fraudulently steal elections. That's who he's bringing in. President Obama and, of course, Joe

'You Will Be Assimilated' Author David Goldman on China's Contempt for the U.S.

"China is not an enemy. And I think that's important for people to clearly understand. China is a rising power, China has been a rising power since Deng Xiaoping in 79. And they are going to develop themselves in our developing themselves into a great power. That is not to say, however, that they are an enemy. They're not an enemy. They're just a great power. That's according to the chairman of the joint chiefs when he was speaking in his private capacity as chief of staff of the army. The NATO summit, maybe that explains a lot about Mark Billy. We'll discuss the realities of what China thinks they are to us and how they're eating our lunch with the man that we always rely upon to tell us about the geo strategic reality in Asia and in Beijing. He's the author of a fabulous work you must check out right now. It's you will be assimilated. China's plan to Sino form the world. David Goldman. Welcome to one on one. A sub gorka it is an honor and privilege to spend fine with you, sir. Thanks for the invitation. I just realized I'm looking at the cover of your book that the Chinese dragon has a pair of iPhone ear pods in. That's a very nice little touch there. I missed in the past. David, we'll talk about Millie. We'll talk about the truth of China Beijing. Xi Jinping and everything else. But first, I have to ask you. The imagery of these super cargo ships off the port of LA, the president of the United States saying, oh, no, don't worry about it. And then Jen Psaki saying, oh, that's a high class issue. People having the Christmas present. So that's, you know, the pipes don't worry about that. Let me ask you, let's think like the Chinese Communist Party for a moment. What does China think of the fact that America can't unload its cargo ships? The Chinese have contempt for us. They think they can take us. We just published an a four times an excerpt from a book by Chinese economist used to be the chief economist of the World Bank Chicago university PhD. Who says, look at history. Look at the United States versus England at the end of the 19th century. The English were lazy complacent and the United States come from behind, took them out and ate their lunch. That's exactly what we're going to do to the United States now. We've got the people. We've got the supply chains. We've got the technology. We've got the will to do it. Students in China Are 'Crushing It' Academically

"We had some wonderful supporters of the show, callers listeners who gave a very large donation to one of our charities last year. So we invited them here to have lunch with me. They came into the studio last week. And I didn't know anything about them upset their great supporters. They just returned from four years in China, where they were running an international school day. It's a bit like, you know, the Soviet Army, an international school has to have a Chinese headmaster and a western headmaster. This lady was the western principle and her husband was one of the teachers. And she told me this story her students were just absolutely to use the vernacular crushing it academically. And they were traveling to Oxford in Cambridge, being given scholarships going to the best schools, all of them getting the best grades in the stem subjects. None of them started the humanities. It was all biology, mathematics, engineering, and so forth. And they just dominating the global academic environment. Isn't that indicative? It's not Parton parcel of this worldview that the current regime has and how the people beneath the regime are gobbling up global assets. 11 million Chinese kids take the college entrance exam each year. That's a gaucho. 50% of them are going to get university places. In other words, the Chinese government sets the threshold for failure at 50% because they know that's going to give the maximum motivation to their kids. And they work their hearts out for years, only half of them will pass. That is a brutal and ruthless meritocracy. The devil takes the hindmost. Here, we can't tolerate failure. Every kid's got to be above average. Everyone's equaled some are more equal than others, and we people who have a political lobby behind their particular ethnicity or sexual orientation. And whereas the Chinese tend to major as you said, in the stem subjects, take the toughest stuff, only 7% of our kids take engineering. We graduate 40,000 mechanical engineers a year. That's why Tim Cook says he can't build an iPhone in the United States. So the Chinese think the world is going to be there. They're on all of what the United States used to be. And they want to be the United States of 1890 crushing Britain and eating Britain's

Bari Weiss Quit the New York Times, But Hasn't Drifted Into Obscurity

"Barry Weiss That is that goes without saying a lot of you say of course. But even just saying that the world has gone mad, is now a controversial statement according to CNN. Barry Weiss is a former New York Times reporter. She's smart. She's tough. She has a really good sub stack. If you don't know what substack is, it's a rather interesting decentralized platform is that one way to put it where you kind of get people you can kind of get what they're saying as they say it and support them. I got her emails. I don't agree with everything she says. She kind of strikes me as kind of an old school moderate liberal, but she's really courageous, and she speaks about issues that matter and she now has a new article that has come out this last week that is making the rounds. I want to read from it. Where she wrote about how the whole world has gone woke and has lost their minds and she says, why are moms like me being called domestic terrorists? She reposted this article from Maude meran. She says this, quote, she quotes, I am a mother of four a criminal defense attorney and a lifelong liberal who is deeply concerned about the direction of New York City public schools. I've been outspoken about my views, along with an untold number of frustrated parents. For that, the FBI is considering using the Patriot Act against me. Let me explain. Last month national schoolboard association and umbrella organization representing thousands, thousands of local elected school board officials, sent a letter to President Biden. The letter in poured The White House to enlist support of Homeland Security FBI Department of Justice to investigate the threat adding that the alleged crimes fall under the purview of the Patriot Act in regards to domestic terrorism. Barry Weiss has covered a variety of different issues from why people are suing UCLA for not wanting discriminating against their students and she's kind of getting a reputation as a former New York Times reporter as someone who's actually willing to tell the truth. Someone who is willing to speak clearly and courageously.

"To the fact that football's an offensive game as it's played today in the NFL. And they went out and got offensive players now a lot of teams did. What the Jets have always been or not always, but I've been Very defensively oriented for a long time. They've taken a lot of defense of players up high. And fewer offensive players up high, So it's good to see them this year. Go out and get the guard the running back the wide receiver the quarterback all early relatively early anyway. In this draft to give themselves a better position a better chance. Of having success offensively and to send a message to Zach Wilson. That we got your back and we are concerned about how we protect you. And we're also concerned about whether you have skill position players alongside you. In order to take advantage of your skills, and they did not in fairness to Sam Darnel. I'm neutral on. I don't know if Sam Donald will ever be any good. I get the people that think the Jets ruined him. Maybe they did. I don't know, but That said he's gone now He's in the review mirror. Um I am pleased that they went out and offered All they could to their quarterback, because If you want to find out if it's gonna work, you've got to be fair. There are many that believed they were not fair to Sam Donald. They just made too many bad decisions made too many bad draft picks. And we're never Good enough and remember that two thirds of this league two thirds of the league Is made up with players who were drafted. After the third round or not drafted at all. They were free agents. So one out of every three NFL players. Was drafted in the third round or better above that. Two out of three. In the fourth round or free agent. You know, fourth round or later or free agent so All these pics that aren't over analyzed and that people pushed to the side and don't talk about very much. These are the picks that generally set your teams apart. If you can have success year in year out with some not all because you're never going to hit home runs all the time. But if you can have some success With some of your 4th 5th 6th 7th round picks. You're in and you're out Hit on a couple of those. It makes a huge difference in your football team. And conversely, if you can't it shows up in your football team. The Jets have not been able to do that. They have drafted horrendously and it is no Coincidence that their record is so bad. It's because they haven't been able to draft That Wilson Toomey has everything he can be brash. He does need to win. Who carry himself the way he does. It won't work in a losing environment. You know, no one cares if you're losing How much you love yourself. And how much you think you're great. And how much you know you think you can. Make happen. And we'll find out if he knows how to lose. And if you if you find out if he knows how to take responsibility when things are bad, because anybody can win. And what I mean by that, From personality standpoint, it doesn't take much. To, uh know how to win. You do need that know how to lose. You know how to lead you knew you need to know how to lead when you lose. You know, you need to know how to keep the negativity from being an every week thing. You need to take responsibility even when it's not yours. And say it's my fault. Logic of the Graham in New York. Who always blames himself, even though they never score a run for him. It's just the way he goes about doing his business. It's a leadership. Way of doing business. Does Zach Wilson have that? I don't know. You know, I don't know. On Lee time will will answer that. I don't have any doubt. I guess my point is this. I don't have any doubt. The Zach Wilson when things are going well. Well, look good and people will be happy about him. What? I don't know and can't predict. Is what happens. In the inevitable rough patches. What kind of a leader is he? Under that scenario? What can we expect in that regard? How ready is he for that? And how You know, it's very important to their quarterback is to start the season. And meaning on that just that they don't have a quarterback right now. I don't think they're starting Zach Wilson in September. I don't think that's the plan. I don't think it's smart if it is the plan. And they need Competent. Leadership. And a guy that can bring Zach Wilson. Along that isn't threatened by him. That isn't trying to You know you're not gonna beat out the third pick in the draft second pick in the draft. You know you're not. You're not beating out the second pick in the draft. Um, because they have too much invested in that second round pick or that second pick. So they're going to do everything they can for Zach Wilson to succeed the guy they bring in has to understand that he has to know that But if he does start the season with the job, it won't be for long. "Radio 66 back with you on the fan. Final hour for me until 10 o'clock when Chris Moore takes over Brian Rask. Oona is at the controls in about 15. Minutes time. Sweeny Murti will join us. To talk about Yankee baseball, or should we say, pseudo Yankee baseball? I mean these guys on the roster They're in the you know, alternate sites back and forth and all of that, But you know, you look at that lineup last night, and that is not what the Yankees envision going to war with. When they started the season really quick Gulf? No. Which is certainly not high on the list of priorities, But you know, the funny thing is last week, Dustin Johnson shoots 30 under par to win a tournament. I mean, that's crazy if that is 7.5 strokes under par. Each round. So if it's apart, 70 course you're talking about 62 a half for 63 a half. It's par. 71 course right. Crazy, you know, over four rounds. So you figure second place was what 20 under 19 under some like that, which is still in incredibly great number. So you figure the tour, taking advantage of the fact that baseball and you know, gave them on opening to be the only sport being played for a while. Now, you've got basketball hockey kicking in. That they tried to make the course easier because people like to see birdies. Well this week Olympia Fields in Illinois. The leaders are even par, and it's more like a U. S Open course. So I don't know that there was any kind of conspiracy theory going on here with the PGA Tour, saying Okay, let's make it really easy and a lot of birdie, so people will go. Wow, look at this golf. Or whether they're they're saying OK, the U. S open is coming up in wing foot in a month. Let's make it U. S open conditions so that guys can tune up for it. I don't know. But it just from one week to the next, you know the same golfers who were just tearing up the course in Massachusetts last week this week, Struggling T make pars. All right, let's get back to our busy busy phones and talk to Leonardo in Manhattan to kick us softly another year on the fan. Hey, Good morning, Rich. Thanks for taking the call. Um, question. I'm not going to promote it, so don't worry. But last summer I was hit by a SUV while on my motorcycle and I started a podcast about motorcycles. Safety. I just got a bunch of T shirts printed. I would like to send you one am I allowed to spend it just the fan. And will you get it? If you do, I will and okay would be very nice of you. But I would usually depending a large man on a 40 42 chest celebrate. That sounds like a lot. OK, I'm going to send one out and, you know, feel free to do it, But I always appreciate I've been calling your production. 15 years. So happy that the Mets are going to be sold. And I guess my my question. You know, nobody is an angel like you. You're the one who told me years ago and I forgot under what circumstances it wass. I think I forgot what it was. But, you know, he said that love the art, Not the artist, right? Remember that? Oh, yeah. I said that to a lot of people a lot of times. Yeah, right. Koen is probably not an angel. But in our case, he is our angel. I think and my question to you in all your years of covering sports, and then I'll hang up it all with you. Have you known an ownership group or family? That has been Maur? The spy? And I don't want to say a big work but more despised like and disappointing Then the Wilpons family and answer that is honestly if you care Well, um, you know, Steinbrenner for a long time was not real popular when the Yankees weren't winning, Leon Hess, although apparently a very good guy, help patents war effort all of that. Was not universally loved because the Jets were so bad, so I think it has to do with whether your team wins. I mean, Marge Schott was somebody and Cincinnati if you want to go globally and the guy in Los Angeles with the divorce, who had the Divest himself of the team. You know those air on their bad owners. Daniel Snyder is not a popular guy in Washington. Everybody would like to see him forced to see that sell the team. So there are a lot of owners who are not popular and usually it's because they don't win. If they win. They can say stupid things, and they can be idiots and all of that, But people tend to say eyes. Justin, eccentric old guy, You know if they win If they lose, he's a villain. But see, here's the thing with Steve Con, and this is why it's not necessarily a done deal. We have entered a new age in sport where it's not just about what happens on the field. League offices are expected to comport themselves in a certain way sexual discrimination things that used to happen in the past that was supposedly all in good fun in air quotes. Now is not acceptable behavior. You cannot do certain things. And also there are financial mecca nations that you know all these rich guys do that now know that that is very much exposed and frowned upon now on our Internet age, where everybody knows everybody else's business. So nature League baseball If Steve Con has big time skeletons in the closet Is not going to be inclined to approve of him. And may not let the sale go through. Now again. I don't know these big time skeletons in the closet. You hear whispers while there's me to stuff going on and there, you know the financial and proprieties and all of that, But he wasn't singled out. It was his people and they were fine. His company was fine. It wasn't him. So it's very, very hard from the outside for us to get a viewpoint as to what this guy is all about. What we do know is he's got a lot of money, and he's a big fan, and he has professed that he is willing to spend that money. To make this a perpetually winning franchise and oh, by the way. It's not just about money. I mean, you can spend a lot of money and be poorly managed and still lose. So let's not think that you know this is the panacea. But given the way the Wilpons have run the operation over the years Supposedly losing money every year. This could be a breath of fresh air. We shall see. Okay, let's go to John and Alan. Dale. You're on the fan, John..

"For short time but any player you never want to go running that way off the field if you're healthy and especially a grade a players you are in my opinion but but so you do think this is a message sent to today I don't think it's a message I think it's a matter my job was I had and if I'm a human being and I'm Carson Wentz I can stomach for five plays a game of a guy taking me off the field versus being dak Prescott and waiting for and being the model citizen for your franchise for four years wading through all of that watching them sign guy after guy that I'm happy for my teammates and then all the sudden watching them sign my backup while I'm still waiting and looking looming at that July fifteenth deadline for this deal to get done and wondering are at like at some point I've got a matter a little more than it appears to you yeah a couple of things real quickly the large action I think is separate because that was the eleventh year in for Joe Flacco we're in the fourth or fifth year for collection website I don't think that's apples to apples but there is a pattern for the cowboys they signed a guy would play since twenty fifteen where they got their franchise quarterback and I agree I I'm not exactly yeah there's a pull out of there if your Dacula what is it gonna take for me to get what I need from you guys once you sign we're all good right absolutely yeah but I mean it but getting to that point right now I I would be more beneficial provide dak Prescott than Carson Wentz and now that's fine I'm talking about that I'm talking about when it actually counts this season right indeed this is one thing to keep your eye on there was another fourth rounder that never really got that contract for team in the end of season that was Kirk cousins his fourth round pick as well never really got that that that franchise deal which is if push comes to shove around I would love to see Jack go apps you guys don't want to sign me yeah I believe you tag me this year I'm one of those durable quarterback NFL I'll hit the open market you can double tap me either way I am going to lose I would love to see that I would love to see that a strong flex for him absolutely coming up much more the life of the all time winningest coach in the history of the NFL but first fortune are you looking to change and apple's open letter that slip there is our first back to back jacks for nothing Dinos that's call rabbits on the call it's career baseball organization had opening day on ESPN two the NC Dinos beat the Samsung whites for nothing three of the four runs were by solo home run for the Dinos they led the KBO last year with a hundred twenty eight home runs her there as chairman knows home run at the top of the sixth you have met four nothing lead as a matter of fact the three through six hitters for the Dinos went seven for fifteen the rest of the team went over eighteen through sixty tossed six scoreless innings allowed just three hits the new sun bears face the L. the do son bear's face the LG twins tomorrow five thirty A. S. taxpayer expense so the football world still mourning the loss of the iconic legendary don Shula yesterday at the age of ninety so many people are intertwined with don Shula in the way their careers played out obviously a lot of those seventies dolphins that went to three straight super bowls and won back to back super bowls a Super Bowl seven eight a big part of that but the next wave of the Miami Dolphins came in the eighties when they also a lot of success after they drafted the six of those six quarterbacks that came in the infamous draft class of nineteen eighty three and that would be Dan Marino and yesterday after the passing of don Shula Dan Marino was asked to speak and because he still has a front office organizational job with the dolphins about what impressed him the most about his time being coached by the legendary don Shula I think it would be the wins I mean and his longevity and the players he coached the one thing I would think is the number wins you know over the years and and the coach for thirty three years the do it at a high level like he did it and you see I mean houses today in the way they are they're amazed at what school was able to do for so long and you would such a high level so to me that's probably the one thing that was so amazing to do it over such a long time but I and the way he did I mean you can't coach for thirty three years but his style if you start coaching in the sixties in your mind in the nineties you're dealing with a lot of different types of players but your style is it in because you want that's the one thing is to your to use a term you use like is when you come into play for some like that who has the receipts you know where you automatically give that person the due respect they deserve because they've earned it through their way into their appearances in super bowls wins or losses even by getting there you're getting there so you've earned all that so you come in there with that thought process always up okay well this guy obviously knows how to do it the right way yeah the hardest part about building any locker room setting is building an understanding of you know what exactly you're supposed to do when you walk into a given lockers were the hardest parts when any new group comes into trying going build their team with someone like don Shula that is the easiest part of that you said you walk you walk in and everyone on down and that means the players in the locker room already understand because they have been indoctrinated in that system for a long time and so it makes like when people talk about culture in a building that's what it is it's an understanding of the way we do business that set from the top but getting guys to buy in that because it requires shared experience over a long body of time to prove what I'm telling you what works and what I'm telling you is in your best interest and saying trust me and showing you that you have to trust me are two entirely different things well again he was Bella check before Belichick yet all those it's east titles and what how many how many losing seasons in those thirty three two nine winning seasons to non winning seasons yeah think about that yeah think about that it's unbelievable our eyes are two losing seasons in thirty one to not to not to non loot to non winning seasons on what he sees as the rebel five hundred right right exactly two nine winning seasons out of thirty three yeah that's impossible you're crazy if possible he said S. okay again much more on the passing of don Shula throughout the morning as a we should just be celebrating an absolute icon in the sport but we're also doing our part to celebrate those who are doing whatever it takes in this very unusual time in this country yeah I I think anytime we lose someone it's a reminder that like giving people flowers while they can still stone reading all these growing things and statements about people should be something we do with a lot more regularity here and that's kind of what we've been trying to do for the last month or so if you've been listening we call it hometown heroes we ask you to give us examples of people in your area that are stepping up their doing their part in putting their hand in the pile to help with what's going on during this pandemic because we see it every day you see around where we all live and so we want to find examples of interest show it to a broader audience were fortunate to have a great platform here and we want to try and use it to show off the people around you that might not get the credit the way athletes and entertainers do for the things that they're doing in the effort of covert relief right now and the results we got were incredible on Twitter record to win gold a gold wing dot com the website that we had set up all of it was so inspiring that we would ourselves aren't there's got to be something more we can do that just the sort of public thank yous even though those are fun part of they are getting to reach out and so we really do the window cop we're not gonna be able to do that this year and our sponsor it was gonna be our partner in that focus and we went to them and basically asked can we re direct some of the funds that would have been going to this make couldn't say yes fast enough to that so it's allowed us to make a small financial gift to some of the heroes involved that we honor in this one of five thousand dollars to twenty of our hometown heroes we did two a day every day last week we're honoring to.

"The lions drive to get to the second and third rounds of the three Mach three round mock draft and look ahead at CBSSports dot com also at CBSSports dot com patriots reportedly trade rob Gronkowski the Brady in the Buccaneers for a fourth round draft pick there was some talk to that there could be a you should be able to get this deal done maybe OJ Howard ends up for the patriots who knows Gronk back at temple to both be honest okay nothing against Foxboro but it's Tampa and it's Gronk and he's the life of any town any party any of them and there's not a lot of time left with Brady is that one is it too is it three years I don't now he seems ageless the rob Gronkowski joining the Buccaneers for fourth round draft pick so you know J. Howard we're talkin Logan then you know that that would be the likely scenario but the big question is then you look at this draft and I know I've read some things said in on I like Jake from two I think it's gonna be a heck of a pro a a bigger version of drew B. breeze in my mind but yet others talk the who is the next quarterback note replacing Brady with the patriots but the tide that has always been such a vital position to the Bella check off and so does J. Howard end up getting traded back order signed with knowing what yeah it it definitely could be I'm sure of that wasn't it just make it in the deal because yeah I the reports were that they were trying to trade O. J. Howard anyway the box were in that there wasn't a ton of value or just offers come in and see a wonder yeah they've maybe they even out right out of the patriots can okay well I think what's probably happening to the patriots have a there is a pretty tight cap space right now so I think that last week they have under a million dollars the cap space so that create more issues but if they were to somehow open up some space in I. O. J. Howard make a ton of sense and Belichick's offense and then I Brady more which can be interesting to see outside and they use that you'd still think that Bella check would highly value a guy Michael J. Howard by the way the bill as you mentioned in our last segment login before the two thousand and eighteen NFL draft the patriots had agreed to trade going Krakowski organ kowski to the lions but Clark told the page he would've told for retirement so do we include Gronk with very helpful on the pizza you almost could you could you could put an asterisk next to a right when when you listed but Hey I I guess what rob we traded alliance you know what man I called berry ago Calvin I'm done hello hi I know we joke about the lions and we're excited about picking third and the draft on Thursday night I think that's part of the problem Logan as I wrote in an opinion piece said Michigan sports network dot com they had the lion's picking third and it's great for the media great for lie low down dot com great for what you do but it really shows that we continue to accept mediocrity with alliance yeah unfortunately that's the reality because they'll be no band that we had higher expectations but I think that's just football you know it there's something about the game of football where there's always gonna be fanned the matter how good or bad the team is and that's the lions for their duty at it take a lot the alliance and I get a lot of people credit and the follow along and having so many heartbreaks and the seemingly always finding new ways to lose you know one of these days is gonna be a really big pay off that debt able to ever get to a super ball it just that any big time success so under one of these days on the Logan lamb marking and they're blocking low down dot com calendar how would you define one of these days she just pretty much whenever it happens but even expectations to a minimum that was made interesting calendar there at the high end load on the gum you know whatever basically whenever it happens Grogan join us if you have a question we would let the audience and on air when it comes to lines in the draft one eight six six eight three eight four eight four three that's one eight six six eight three eight Hugh Jackman it it it almost makes me giddy you got a big trade will grant to the Buccaneers with Brady who by the way Tampa is on the home schedule is or say in the NFL schedules will be out I think in early may pusher push it back a week or two so you'll see Brady and Gronk at Ford field in Detroit thanks yeah but I'm lot of intrigue there you know you just don't know again Brady forty three years old and under a new head coach in offense and Gronk a year you know the year off and now he's back playing you just wonder if they're gonna be able to find that same spark that they used to have I imagine there's gonna be something there but you know it would you put your money and then having you know their typical see that they had a few years ago or just completely I guess disappointing you know they have bigger needs right now maybe than their actual play on the field I just don't trust Matt Patricia McConnell my road at Michigan sports network dot com that I said you know what I felt trapped as a great event but Patricia still the problem and I I believe Logan in my mind the only good thing is done was bring about awareness is office of coordinator and from game one that the Bakul against the jets and Sam Darnold's rookie debut in Detroit he has shown that he's not head coach material and I'm standing by that no matter what talent you bring in no matter who they draft at three or if they trade down on Thursday Matt Patricia is still the head coach of the lions yeah I didn't the defense anytime your defense of my new coach and tagged in label that the defense of guru and then have won the worst defenses ever in line is three I mean that's really stands out then and you did have being flashes on the line containing high powered offenses the new year of other teams using alliance team to go again you know certain high powered offenses and they give you a little bit of hope but overall the more often than not there they're not pulling out of the game and I think on offense I'm glad that protected bike use that broaden their Bible because he might not be it makes me think we have enough of the vine because he knows how to stop offences are tried without bapa but he needed someone on the opposite side of the ball to take the reins and some of the experience and that's what Babel was an idea that you have got it yet the figure that defense out but I I agree yeah professor really hasn't shown much to give you a much confidence going forward in the future that's why I stay a man's head on he has to be eight nine eight nine and seven right there in the playoffs are knocking on the door in late December I'll give ownership credit for listening to Quinn you know if it wasn't for Patricia I'm being honest about Bob Quinn if it wasn't for his loyalty and what may turn out to be the mistake that gets him shown the door I liked what Bob Quinn was doing now you know trading degs trading belies that more Patricia say neither bag locker room guys and he's not there he's not it in T. A.'s inside the locker room all the time you know who make appearances I don't know if he's listening too much to Patricia but anything connected to Patricia with Quinn really lowered the bar in my mind on what Bob Quinn was doing to try and take the lions to a place better than nine and seven that wasn't good enough as he said publicly when he fired Jim Caldwell well you look at the players you know diggers on the roster and was given a contract extension sleigh was happy it at the time you know with Jim Caldwell around I think the common denominator it does seem to be Patricia was Patricia came along as it seemingly when all the players that become a little bit more disgruntled and I think that kind of forces Quinten a little bit at the coaches and getting along with some of your players or maybe it's a one sided dealing with the players that don't like the coach and they become disgruntled then yeah that's that's kind of an issue but I do think about it Caldwell with the players coach eight point didn't seem to have an issue with these type of you know Boko players who spoke out when called world around it it just hasn't seemed to be an issue until after she got here if they had if they had a a believable head coach right now I would think this team when I'm looking at the bear is in disarray and the going to Nick Foles and you still got Rodgers and the Packers you've got Kirk cousins and the Minnesota offense if cook isn't healthy they're still looking for receivers and if Stafford and the lions are completely healthy A. N. with everything they have that's why I your idea about taken an offense of linemen I may like that better if it's pick three pick five than any R. as a a Simmons just somebody with speed to get after the quarterback I'm trying to think about the last guy I remember we know we're talking about speed someone the separate promote a safety or corner and we talked about best and then I'm thinking on defense the last time the lions had a guy with speed that could be anybody in front of him how would you fill in that blank yeah after one year you know sick he when he was healthy all great healthy he was coming into his own he was still learning the game because he you know he started at BYU that was a track guy he was still learning the game but I what Simmons in yeah he looks raw at times even looks on sure because he played so many different positions at Clemson but just a guy you could turn loose I look at Tyreek hill and the difference he made with the Kansas City Chiefs side get I give Mahomes a lot of credit right look at the capitol Mar Jackson news now on the cover of mad and what he did and now you look at the lines and you say all right line up offense and defense with the lines login and you say who's the guy that can beat anybody in a race from the fifty to the end zone whether your defense chase in our offense trying to get away yeah not a common complaint I have is that the offense even though you have Kenny Golladay Marvin Jones are great at the catch is that when the fifty fifty ball there's I don't think there's a threat you know it's not they don't have players that if they get the open space they're gonna be able to take the house and that's I don't know if that's a floppy thing but when he he's always David kind of grab those hi I lowered lowered ceiling type of players that are just good football players but due to athleticism you know they're never out they don't have a lead trait in terms of top end speed which I feel like that the way in the game how the NFL being played right now is that kind of moving more toward both high powered offense the tax rate in college where you're getting the ball to play maker in the state the lines don't have that.

"This is the fourth round table and I am Michael yeah feat I'm speaking with mark Wilson he is the president of the Florida chamber of commerce we've been talking about Florida's economic boom and really seems like right now the Ford is a Connie is booming and the question is why is a booming and does have to do with tax policy and sure we raise taxes lower taxes is the economy benefiting everyone is a big economic issues you know in the US as a whole but also a lot of debate going on over those things here in Florida so mark in the last segment we're talking about the corporate income tax there's an argument right now by at some and some of the newspapers the local newspapers that corporations and Ford are not paying their fair share too many loopholes and they're getting away with not paying their fair share and they think that if they did pay their fair share the government would get more revenue and then they could spend it on things like public a public education or public transportation and you were talking a little bit about that I want to continue on with your point yeah Mike thanks for that so look here's here's the deal we do need more taxes in Florida right so let me say that again as president of Florida's chamber of commerce I will tell you were adding four and a half million more residents to Florida by twenty thirty and ten years and we're gonna add a million and a half jobs the growth of Florida we need more taxes right the governors laid out a plan to pay teachers more almost forty eight thousand dollars a year paying teachers more makes a lot of sense right raising taxes on everyone doesn't make any sense here's the deal we used to teach economics in our schools and what we use to teach every every kid in school is that if you want to raise tax revenues you lower the tax rate and the more you can lower the tax rate the more economic activity happens the more jobs are created the more wealthy people have they buy cars they buy computers they buy clothes they buy homes they buy boats this is what makes an economy work and so Mike the argument that some are making that we need to raise taxes on twenty two million Floridians is a false argument if we want more tax revenue to local government and to state government then we should reduce the tax rate Mike look what's happening in Illinois and New York there's there's a science experiment playing out right in front of our eyes they're raising taxes on millionaires sounds wonderful doesn't it and they're raising taxes on business and you know what's happening those people are taking their businesses and they're leaving New York and they're moving to Florida they're creating all kinds of jobs in Florida and our kids and our grandkids are benefiting from that in a big way so yes we need to collect more tax revenue I I think everybody is on the same page with that we need to pay teachers more we need to invest in roads we need to invest in innovation but where we differ is how to get there science tells us that if you raise the tax rate on individuals and businesses you're gonna get less economic activity I hand and we just believe we need more economic activity and more wealth and more industry diversification and you get that through smart tax policy now what about the argument though that it's not necessarily the tax rate that's the problem but that there are too many loopholes that allow big corporations to get away with not paying taxes do you think there's something to that but again I think it's a it's a false narrative Mike what what you would want is in a perfect economy you want no personal income taxes and no business taxes right that's what the perfect economy would be and so you know what some people call loopholes the other side of that or we're we now have hundreds of thousands of of people in Florida who've decided to start their own local and small business and create jobs that happens when you lower the tax and the regulatory burden so again Mike tax receipts are up the budget the governor just put out is a ninety one billion dollar budget taxes are tax collections are going up because economic activity is going up right if you want less economic activity raise taxes and so what what some people call loopholes are are actually a decision by policy makers to make Florida the place that people are going to bring their businesses to so that they can create jobs when when jobs are created and people pay they pay to buy clothes and cars and so forth that generate sales tax revenues sales tax revenue than helps local economies grow and that's what's going to allow us to pay teachers a lot more so if people understand a math equation and that lower taxes across the board actually generates more tax collection then I think I think more and more people would understand okay the the lower taxes that we charge the more taxes we're going to collect it's it's a simple math problem and all you have to do is look at Florida's history over the last ten years to see year after year after year we keep lowering taxes on individuals and businesses and we keep increasing the collections proof is in the pudding and Michael was the one last thing about taxes businesses don't pay taxes right yes yes businesses submit about twenty billion dollars or more in tax but then you know what happens your listeners you may and all of your listeners we then pay higher costs so in Florida if you just look at the property taxes that businesses pay and the income taxes the businesses pay every resident of Florida pays over nine hundred and fifty dollars in higher prices because when we pay for those tax so if you want twenty two million Floridians to pay higher taxes then you raise taxes on businesses it's it's it's a really simple equation when a business pays higher rent when they pay higher taxes when they pay for lawsuit abuse they have to they have to charge more for their products and services so when you talk about taxing business the reality is we're taxing residents of Florida and the Florida chamber is doesn't think that's a good idea does the Florida chamber believe that the corporate income tax rate should be zero I mean you said in a perfect world it would be what do you think that whatever happened in Florida yeah I think we're headed that direction in fact you know the if you go back to two thousand and ten and you look at where we are now is about seventy five percent of job creators in Florida you know the the smaller corporations are no longer paying the tax so so Mike again proof in the pudding about seventy five percent of companies who use the pay these taxes are no longer paying these taxes but yet tax receipts are up it's because Florida is has decided to put a premium on economic activity and job creation and when we do that you can lower or even eliminate a lot of these taxes and again we can argue about theory all we want to but if we look at the scoreboard Florida's winning New York Illinois Connecticut they're losing because they keep increasing taxes on everybody that breeds case in point New York has about the same number of people as Florida but twenty two million in fact they have fewer people than we do New York state budget is twice what the Florida budget is so people in New York are paying almost twice the taxes right but new York's losing a couple hundred thousand people a year and many of them are bringing their families and businesses to Florida this is the right policy we want them here we want them creating jobs we want them spending money investing in homes investing in businesses that's what makes the economy work and it's working all right I'm speaking with mark Wilson he is the president of the for the chamber of commerce you were talking about the fact that businesses in the long run a really not the ones paying taxes it's the consumers of those businesses that have to pay the taxes to higher costs I think that goes along with a higher minimum wage as well so it's going to be on the fourth ballot John Morganstern pushing it hiring the for the minimum wage eventually to fifteen dollars an hour do you think that would be as damaging to the economy as say higher taxes like you sent yeah look at a guy like I said earlier and earlier segment there there's no silver bullet and you know what would work there's a lot more tax discussion we could have maybe in the future for example internet sales taxes we believe they should be collected in Florida that would that would raise another seven hundred million dollars in receipts by the way which is enough to pay for the teacher salary increase and so there are taxes that should be fair and across the board but your question about minimum wage here's what we have we have about ten and a half million people who work in Florida only about one and a half percent of them who work full time are earning the minimum wage so the first thing we need to know Mike is we're talking about a very small number of people about one and a half percent of our work force in Florida that works full time is earning the minimum wage we believe that we should create career pathways of fifty thousand dollar careers for people in Florida purported to be the only state in the country that has a constitutional mandate on every local business and part of that we pay fifteen dollars an hour we know that it would kill about five hundred thousand jobs between now and twenty twenty six right so remember I said in an earlier segment that we we have a almost nine hundred thousand kids who are living in poverty right now what these kids need is hope and opportunity and some people call it a minimum wage job these are training wage jobs and we're going to continue this conversation in just a moment I'm speaking with mark Wilson who is the president of the Florida chamber of commerce you are listening to the fourth round table which is a part of Ford is talking and entertainment network and high and Michael FE I think it's tough.

"At four rounding out the top ten Georgia Oregon all the way up seven spots to number six after the pac twelve championship win over you talk Baylor holds at seven Wisconsin holds eight the committee not punishing those two teams were getting to the conference championship game and losing Florida at nine Penn state attend so no changes between number seven and Ted metric Brad Edwards and Trevor Matich you're the college gameday college football playoff selection special on E. S. P. N. radio Ryan day Ohio state head coach yesterday was politicking for the number one seed today on the college football playoff selection show on ESPN had to digest being number two we did talk about it all that much you know we knew if we are to go when the whole thing would have to play you know everybody play the best and so whether it's issue Klum's Rocklahoma you know you got to be able to play the best to go when the national championship so we did talk a whole bunch about that we just talked about finishing off this first research was big ten championship and then you know now we have a new challenge ahead of us and so we talked about that after after the house was made and so now we have all our eyes on on Phoenix Trevor if you are Ryan day what's the positive spin that you are trying to put on this drop from one to two the positive spin is that they've got to be clubs in anyway they might as well have all the extra time to prepare for claims are you buying that Brett sure there look at I don't think that's as big of a deal this year because this is the biggest gap that we've had between the semis in the championship sure you have almost is as much time between those two games as you do between the conference championship game in the semi finals last year was like the minimum amount of time you had seven days between semi and final a so so maybe it is a little bit different from that standpoint but yeah I mean if if if your Ohio state in your thinking you know we want to win the national championship in two thousand nineteen at whatever point in the season yeah that became a a major point of focus for them you had to figure you're gonna be comes in at some point in order to do that and so here they are the bread let me ask you this though when you face cleanser you want to be at your physical best I think other than Ohio state Clemson is the most physical of the other three teams in the playoffs so bright I would ask you this if you take LSU clubs in our Oklahoma and you're facing one of those three teams which of those three do you think would be the most physically taxing in terms of all the all the stuff that goes on in the trenches and everything else who's the most physical to Dallas you consider Oklahoma bread which I don't know but I'd say the get the same answer for each side of the ball you know I I think I would least like to go get the claims in defense I might least like to go against the Oklahoma office is from a physicality standpoint just because of the nature of the way that Oklahoma runs it you so you realize bread that saying that a big twelve champ isn't that great of an LSU the SEC isn't that great our fans willing as all over the US and see what you said makes no sense bread how could that possibly be true here the college it is college football playoff selection special on ESPN radio metric Brad Edwards and Trevor Matich so I stayed falls to number two L. issue jumps to number one after the SEC championship head coach ed osier Ron was on the college football playoff selection show on ESPN and had this to say about being number one you don't remember anytime anywhere everybody we're ready to play so well you know we're going to play in a local mall great football three or whatever they don't play will show up wouldn't be ready it's interesting if you're a high a sale well why didn't you tell the committee that if it did matter to you because it matters going to let him know that in terms of destinations it didn't care in terms of a politician in care we care let's let us be of the number one team it's it's interesting with with they'll issue in that mindset that they have had all season Brad this for a team that hasn't been to the playoffs the Joe burrow ed always your rod dynamic the boxy the bravado them but she's well you know bring it on lets go think about how that began this year they're going to Austin then they're going to Tuscaloosa and from that moment on this freight train could not be stopped yeah I think that was the key was winning in Tuscaloosa they went into the Alabama game with a whole lot of confidence but they had plenty of reasons to still doubt but when they came away for you know from Tuscaloosa with that victory at that point they believe the weather whether rightly or not and I guess that remains to be seen they believe that no one can beat them and that and I'm not saying that they they they think that they're you know invencible but certainly they feel like if they play their best that they're gonna beat anyone that the that the playoff can throw Adam and yeah I mean that's the attitude I think you need to have but I think housing clubs and feel the same way and look deep down Oklahoma probably feels the same way too just no one else shares that opinion of Oklahoma but but look this is this is to me on paper and I know we're Tom Ellis you but just kind of set going the other two this is the most of ever looked forward to a semi final game they there been a a few in the past that that I thought were going to be really good I I thought that the first claims and Ohio state meeting should be good and it wasn't it was thirty one nothing I thought that the Oklahoma Georgia game two years ago should be good and that was as good of a semi final as we've seen but this one just by virtue of having two teams that could easily be the favorite I mean how many guys you able say that whoever wins the two three game might be the betting favorite to win the national championship that tells you how high quality of again this is the fact that we were all talking in the most popular talking point was you don't want that number two because that means you have to face Clemson well maybe Clemson is the best team that of well maybe so but if your clubs and now you got a face Ohio state which I think is the best thing yeah so it goes for them too although we're sort of discounting the LSU Oklahoma match up I can see a path for Oklahoma BL issues I so I wouldn't I wouldn't just put that aside and focus only on Clemson will have still the bread I agree with you I I am looking for the semi more than any other yeah you Trevor what's interesting I said earlier about how is crazy as it sounds that that may be for Ohio state the most physical offense of team of the three that they could face would be Oklahoma the other side of this when was the last time that a big twelve team went into the post season being able to say that their postseason opponent was by far the best passing team they would have faced all season and let's be honest there's no one in the big twelve Oklahoma's topics included that throws the ball anywhere close to as well as well as you know one of the country does does that and now they've got them in the semi finals the college gameday college football playoff selection special on ESPN radio up next Baylor head coach Matt rule will join us we'll ask Kim if Oklahoma is good enough to win the national championship that's next on ESPN radio ESPN baseball hockey soccer college football one more plus you get new film shows docks download now for ESPN.

"Traded for a fourth round pick but it was Santonio Holmes went for what a fifth and he could probably I mean Antonio brown went for third in a fit now he's crazy but I mean what you may be able to get Emmanuel Sanders for six or something that's what I'm thinking a good gift if you're really good and then they look really good but if you're in the thick of things and a lot of sports or like this especially baseball and there's a potentially a missing piece because I think wide receivers their weakest link easily and there are a lot of young guys that just haven't stepped up and you just want to get one and you can give up a late round pick for a guy like that last year was contract thirty three years old Denver and in the forty Niners have you know they did the joint practices they've got a history I would think maybe that that makes like you said you got to put two and two together and see where fits in that potentially would if they don't have to give up too much you get an adult in the room in the wide receiver room I think that's a positive thing yeah I I I I think a lot of it's gonna be you use check MRI today yeah because they're too backs so much with him and I you know just thinking again if you check can't play in LA you could still use to backs they just you know you could put a braid and Coleman together Moster in Coleman Moster Brita or I'm you know I've taken Jeff Wilson junior could go to that full back spot off center in line and just let him you know the fact that you put two running backs on the field forces the opponents to play their base more and even that you know the the brownstone do that they play a four to five they played a four three four more last night because they use check is the match up piece when you're playing and you know it Vance championship chess like trials playing there and that the full back the old a lot of players are coming in just based on the full back at the full backs on the field you're on the field like Drake Drake Ranelagh but it's actually matches up a full backs in the feel that he's not he's not on the field so just to have a second back on the field creates that match up and if it's not used Jackie could do with one of the other backs if you wanted maybe our look at some of the playoffs three of the four teams survive it look like the then to lot of teams really going home especially with the Dodgers in the nationals now Strasbourg in a game five again it was Kim friends coming up next only on the sports leader.

I I I think Mark Ingram is. Yeah. Absolutely. He hits the whole he gets in there. He's a great team guy. Dad played in the NFL to four point seven yards per tempt. And we know always used so I mean, that's impressive. I do though I have impacted by SIMS that there are certain offensive coordinators that I give less. It to the players. "A bit of an issue is stand the day. Damn if you remember mcloughlin's mantra from two thousand fourteen wide receiver receptions, don't matter not an important stat. Okay. What about yards? Do. They matter. Mclovin me said it, I didn't even say it. I mean. Well, I mean, he happens to be right. But I yeah, yards are a big deal. But we'll see when someone else thrown Antonio Brown. He's gonna he doesn't like Ben now. But I'll bet you by week nine. He catches a few docs from other quarterbacks. I mean, it depends what team by way, you said a fourth round pick earlier in the show. Well, that's what I was scout. I said what is he worth? And he said, well, talent wise a first round pick. But you're not going to give up a first round pick for Antonio Brown and the scouts said I don't believe that Antonio Brown is going to go to another team and stay with that current contract. Can I say if I'm rooting for any team? I want him for a fourth round pick. When you said that I'm like, well, you know, the eagles give up a fourth round pick for him. But you're right. I've been reading widespread mid mid round pick if you'd like get in touch with the program best and worst of the weekend. We'll take your phone calls. Eight seven seven three DP show Email addresses DP, Dan, Patrick dot com. Twitter handle with DP show. Mclovin actually came up with very good poll question today. Okay. You can find out where one of these guys ends up here, your choices. Kyla murray? Antonio Brown, Colin Kaepernick. Kevin Durant of Bryce Harper. Kevin Durant is leading followed by Bryce Harper. Then Antonio Brown then Kyle Murray and Colin Kaepernick a distant last. All right. Yeah. I don't think cabernet plays in the NFL again Cuyler Murray. I have no issue taking him with the first round draft pick. I don't I I love that. All we think that if you're playing in the NFL, the offensive linemen are smaller in college. Therefore, you can throw over them or the defensive lineman. Don't put their arms up I'm guessing Oklahoma's offensive line might be as big as the patriots. And I'm guessing that the teams they played against did hold their arms up to try to knock down those passes. I'm guessing, and I would have no issue with Tyler Murray. I think Cuyler Murray. Oakland. I I look at that and say absolutely I love Tyler Moore Antonio Brown. You know talent. But trouble Bryce Harper. We're gonna find out next. Tom ritchie. The great baseball writer from Sports Illustrated. Also works for the network and FOX Zona with the dodgers, Tom is this the day that Bryce Harper finally signed. I will say this is the week, Dan. It could be the day. I get the sense that it might not be. But I do think Bryce Harper wants to get himself and camp and not too late. And I think we're at the end game. Let's put it that way. I think it's a matter of days. I was wondering and Bob Nightingale said this to is what six weeks ago, he said, no, it's a done deal. He's going to Philadelphia. I got the feeling Scott Boras. Bryce, Harper's agent got the deal, or at least got a number that he could go and shop around and he's been shopping for quite some time. But he's coming back to what would be maybe close to the original deal. What do you think of that process? I do think there's a little bit of truth to that. Listen, we knew where the market started. When the nationals made that debt offer at the end of the season three hundred over ten years. Right. I mean, there's a lot of deferred money in that. So it wasn't the truth three hundred and present day value. But you got a sense of where it was going to go. I always thought. Yes. Someone was gonna sign him for a short term contract for a high A was ludicrous. Bryson Scott Boras, basically. Really scheduled this time. He was sixteen years old in terms of hitting free agency at twenty six right? I think I do think that a little bit of Billy bidding against itself a little bit of that JD Martinez in Boston last year. And getting it to camp is really the soft deadlines to get it finally got I think what's happening year. Scott wants to make sure he gets this above the three twenty five that Stanton. Got from the Marlins that's the largest contract ever given out in baseball history. I'm sure he'd love to break that I'm not sure Philadelphia is going to get there. But that does come a point where you say a three ten or three hundred thirteen it's not too badly. Yep. If you were the Commissioner, you could place Bryce Harper in a place for the good of the game. Where would you place him? I would put them in LA or New York or the Yankees. I mean, I just saw something where he was rated. There was a sports marketing company at rated him the thirteenth, most marketable athlete in the world. The only baseball player ahead of him on that list. And there is something about Bryce Harper. I think that's appealing. No matter. What market he plays in? But why not maximize that kind of exposure? Then, you know, it's rare that you get a baseball player like Bryce can walk down the street at virtually any city this country, and people know who he is. I think Aaron judge is that way, and I think braces that way. That may be it that love, Mike trout. I think he can get away pretty anonymously with walking down the street in this country. Prices got that. In fact, there's no question so fancy your question. I feel big market are the Padres sneaky, go market size. Are they they only on Manny Machado? Yeah. They are. They like him. You know, I think it makes sense that they have the number one farm system in baseball. The owner there Ron Fowler has had the team for six years. He has yet to feel the winning team has yet to have any position players start the all star game or get an MVP vote or get a Cy Young vote. Basically there is they haven't been relevant team. And I think there's a point where you have to go. Listen, we're ready to win close to being ready to win making a commitment to someone like Machado makes a lot of sense. They have good position players mostly touching. That's coming up. But I do think it's a situation where you're gonna sign a guy for eight to nine years your window is right around the corner. Don't wait until the window opens up. Make sure you get the window open a little sooner by getting someone like Machado. They've met him twice. You know, AJ prowler general manager flew from the west coast, and Miami know AJ, it's not really a big deal because he never sleeps, and he has more frequent flyer miles and anybody way he runs, but when you had that second visit person to person fly cross country and sit down with banning Miami. That told me they're very serious. You there with the? Dodgers in spring training. What's the biggest question that has to be answered with this team? There's not a whole lot of questions. Actually, I thought the Pollock signing really completed this team. Then I think I'll pay for the best team in the National League. And I don't say that because they went to the World Series two years in a row, they are incredibly deep. My ask, you know, nitpick anything I would say, Cory Seager health. I mean, see him back and he's in uniform. All right. He's backing he's Cory Seager. But that's two major surgeries. He had the Tommy John surgery on the throwing arm and the hip surgery as well. I just gotta feel you gotta give this guy tied. I'm talking about a half of a season. And even if he's out there. I don't think he's gonna be an impact player right away. But so far at least they're saying the signs are good. He's on track to be their opening day. Man. I think this is a team that has more depth than anybody else. They can basically lose anybody on their roster and cover for it. Really? Well. And is that why they weren't involved in the Machado or Bryce Harper sweepstakes. Yes. You know, you look since Andrew Friedman got that team. And you know, he has gone all in on death more. So than the top of the roster. He's not anybody who believes in the so called stars and scrubs kind of setup where you spend a lot of money at the top of your roster. And you've got a piece to go the back half of it. And a lot of four years. He's used fifty two players at least fifty two players every year. I mean, it's just incredible. What they go through. And I think what you're looking at. Now, he hasn't stepped out. Really, I think the other than the Kershaw extension Janssen contract with the most money spent so in terms of going out and getting big free agents. He hasn't been in that one hundred million dollar two hundred million dollar range. I just don't believe he believes in that and their farm system is so good that they can play this game. So yeah, I mean, listen look at their attendance showed then they have six years in a row. They've won that division. Dry three million not a crying need to go out there and get a superstar name if we talk in a week Bryce Harper is. Where in Manny Machado is where. I think braces and Philadelphia and I have not ruled out the Yankees on Machado. You know, I think if Manny wants to take a lesser contract. I believe is heart is in New York, and the I think our planet smartly to get him on their terms. But I do think the buck in Chicago with the White Sox or San Diego. It's going to be so good. I put them in San Diego because I think when push comes to shove most of these guys are gonna sign for the money any chance. Tim tebow starts the season in the majors with the Mets. No, there's no chance you know, guards the season with the Mets. But I think he's gonna be there before the end of the year. The only thing I don't know if you've seen the video of him camping. I haven't been a mess camp yet. It looks like he's even stronger and bigger this year. He's gone back to look like a football player playing baseball. I'm not sure that's a good thing. I mean, we know he's like the world's hardest worker. I thought I look a little better in terms of athleticism and smooth as baseball player last year, and this year, I think he has to be careful with how big and he actually gets and he's going to get married. So he's going to let himself go. So he's. He's not let himself go say. Tom. Thank you. I appreciate your time. You gotta Dan. Tom Ritchie senior baseball writers Sports Illustrated, also contributes to FOX in the MLB network there. You know, the Machado thing is interesting because I still think the Yankees would love to give him a shorter deal, which would be a smarter deal. But I think what it's going to average out is going to be similar to what Bryce Harper gets. It just won't be a tenure deal. I think whoever signs Manny Machado is going to sign him for the same amount of money per year that Bryce Harper is going to get harpers.
