Fresh update on "four year old " discussed on The Final Furlong Podcast

"Come on to a special edition of the show, it is great to have your company and I am delighted to say that we have a very special guest. Somebody who I am also involved with in an ownership syndicate and whenever a race horse runs in the ownership syndicates colors, that is my horse. I know we're all in the WhatsApp group when we're chatting away and we're getting very excited, but no, it's mine. That's my horse. David pipe of the David pipe racing club, but more importantly, upon the house and the famous racer strainer with multiple grade one and grand national wins first season, wasn't it with the compiler die. David, welcome back to the final front of podcast. Welcome. Great to be on again. And great to have you with us before I ask how you are, how is remastered? Well, thankfully, remastered is basically okay. He stiffens saw, but he's had physio. That's looked at him. And he's going to be okay, which was obviously he was traveling very well. And when he fell, it was a nasty fall. So it's just great to see him get back up. It was a very nasty, it was a mother and father of all for both him and for Ferguson. I was talking to jama you're lovely racing secretary on Monday and Gemma was telling me that Ferguson just walked out of the office. So I don't even need to ask about him. He's fine. He's clearly doing all right. But it's too far out to know. That's kind of the frustrating thing about it is that if you're looking at the in running odds or if you're even pricing it up in your head when he comes to four out, he's the one traveling the strongest he had that beautiful prep that pole and I talked about on Thursday's preview. He's full of running and it's no one's not his fault and it's not frozen four. It's just one of those annoying things in racing that it happens every now and again, just the landing gear doesn't quite come out or the horse and jockey don't see eye to eye just there's a different idea as to how you approach the fence and those newby fences can be quite tricky as well. Yeah, that's right. I mean, we wanted soft the ground really, but Fergus gave him a great ride. We got him in a lovely rhythm. And he handled the better ground well. And yeah, look, he was going extremely well. Long way from home as you say, but it looked as if he was going to just jump it and go into the lead. We'll never know, but you would have liked to have thought he would have been fighting out the finish. Damn, right. The good news is that the pesky handicapper, who is the scourge of racing. So yeah, exactly. Can not go near him because of this bizarre rule where if a horse falls three out. Oh, we can have a word with you. If the horse falls for, they can't go near you. So you're in a very interesting spot with him in terms of what you can do because he's had his preference in a pretends qualifier. So he has qualified for that for cheltenham. But you'd have to say he's very well handicapped over fences. So I'm hoping that maybe you don't want to reveal too much, but I'm hoping that you're going to say this is on tempor two two. We're going to go for the ultima. It's a long time to wait till then. So we're hoping that he would have won new we're hoping he might do that next time and hope we're hoping that he'll be even higher in the weights come cheltenham. So he might be too high for a race like the ultimate, but we'll see. Okay. That's good news, by the way. I like it when you're saying he could be too high in the way it's for a race like the ultimate. That means that hopefully more successes to come, but we'll see and look great that both Fergus and remaster are in good form. And as you say, there's no point in dwelling on what might have been. Adagio has been an absolute superstar for you since you got them as a juvenile hurdler. Met with defeated them in November of last year, and then from then I'll never look back, bolted up at the same track, bolted up in chepstow. And the finale on the 9th of January rescheduled finale. And was the best of the British and the triumph hurdle and was traveling really, really well on entry when he makes that mistake and the winning distance between him and mom morale then becomes just very much exaggerated, but also he had a longer season. And he reappears with a monstrous a gigantic effort in the great wood on the top ways. You must have been thrilled with Israel. Yes. No, it was a fantastic run. Obviously, four year old second season. You're a little bit you're not sure how the form's going to work out. But morale running the other day and disappointing, but he did finish lame. It looks as if the four year olds from last year pretty solid pretty good year for the four year old. So I'm hoping that that is good for them this season and obviously we went to the great wood with a big weight. And we had a bit of a rush preparation because you had to have a wind up. And I could have done with another ten days, but he ran a ran a cracking race, obviously, finishing second, given a lot of weight away. But it shows that he's trained on and very much looking forward to going to cheltenham for the Internet. National now, on the 11th, I think it is. So he is going to go for what we should be calling the bula, but we have to go the international..

"The mason minute. With Kevin mason. We're living in a time when everybody wants to go back to the past. Go back to the way it used to be, but there is no turning back. And when I say used to be, we're talking the good old days, whatever that may be in your life. But I realized something just the other night. I don't want to go backwards. Some of my first memories, listening to basketball broadcast, listening to football broadcasts on a little a.m. radio, usually hearing my father do the call, and every now and again, let me go along with him. And I'm talking going back to the age of three, four years old, technology then, way behind what it is now, but it was still amazing to be able to do those things and I learned how to make those broadcast happen when you go from state to state. Anymore, you can do it with a cell phone, and amazingly, with the Internet, I could listen to my nephew, play football, thanks to some fancy technology. And I can't even imagine back in the 1960s, how that would have even been possible in my lifetime. What we're able to do and accomplish right now in this world is amazing. And what we can do in the future could be even more amazing. Simple little technology has made this world so beautiful. And at the same time, so scary for some.

"In afghanistan. The lgbtq community is concerned about the future. Well homosexuality has long been criminalised in the country advocates. Fear the situation. We'll get more dangerous. I recently got on the phone with a twenty four year. Old in afghanistan she identifies as a lesbian and for years has been a vocal defender of lgbtq and women's rights in the country people have been targeted for similar beliefs in the past. So we're not using her name out of concern for her safety. She's been on the move for the past couple of weeks trying to stay out of the taliban's path now. I'm staying with frames. But i cannot stay here for a long time seriously. I mean one way but after that food shore taliban come to your home twice now she's been told. As soon as she heard me start messing around with the fire. She came out there. It's like you're gonna be playing with fire. You're gonna do something good with it. She brought him outside and gave him his first lesson. How to control fire took me out to the not under the Black Oaks and gave me a box is ticked matches and She was over 100 years old at the time. Fire encouraged the growth of useful plants like huckleberries and grass for deer and elk. It played a role in ceremonies and prevented catastrophic wildfires. The knowledge passed through generations. But four year old bill still had a lot to learn. And the leaves were, you know, dry on the very top layer, but they were wet underneath and I could get one leave to burns. I couldn't get it carry the next and he kept at it. So stacking them and I learned great and heat and I'm trying to do all these things. And so you know, By the time I was eight years old, I was pulling off some pretty complex burns by myself. Innocents by standards by standers all are expected to recover. And an overnight shooting in downtown Phoenix. Never say the drug you want. I'd like to adopt the stars radical candor with you. Could you dress up and dope it yet. Should and actually. Sometimes you know. Even when i'm giving back in and i used to teach women's football and whenever i had feedback as the coach give them. I used to mission but i used to say. Hey listen. i'm john. Full you to join it now off to the gay cool. They're trying to impress the coach. So health time they're like yeah broad now gaffer and then i would offer secondary.

"And this on yourself well and i would also encourage signed a picture of yourself. Four year. i'll take care of yourself to do some reflection and some. I don't know it sounds weird. I i'm just like when i look at this picture. I just love the little kid and it's me. It's just like none of the narcissistic way. But you should put it up on the camera again so we can just reflect on i mean how could you not like the job. Look the djelic the shirt. The outfit is kinda hilarious. The number it is. But i think it's It's interesting because people sometimes we may be almost a little bit frightened to go down that route you know. Oh yeah because it's a different person. I mature responsible. I'm this i'm not. I remember when. I had my own therapeutic practice. My guy used to say to me. I'm brian to describe the kid inside you. This trying to get out. And i remember the first time yossi. John didn't really really night what he meant. What do you mean that. Well how old is he. How old's little boy trying to look how you're behaving right now. And how old were you when you started behaving like that. And sometimes you see i remember seeing even my partner wants that they would say frustrated with me. But i see in an adult. You know on the floor. And it's like i wanted to say. How old are you right now. I'm getting my way and it's not. I think so. There's some real some real meaning. I think in real purpose in not reflection. I would absolutely recommend that you do that. That people do grab a picture before they went to primary school and have a look and see one. Are they still in touch with that. Young child that child had greens aspirations and imagination beyond anything that we probably have now with a restricted life. Week sometimes give ourselves sometimes. You'll need either back. When i was that age did.

"Always right. The next distortion is i label and then my next is still in my third. One is minimize. Say it's not going my way. I stopped to label. Because they're wrong. i'm right and then i be bothered anymore so i just it Forget it that why we and i moved forward and those again it goes back to these new communication unless i'm walking around with a little kind of poster on me say at the moment. I'm displaying minimization. Leave me for twenty minutes. And i will be fine. I will come back. And i'll be right. I think that's two questions of united wanted. I won't getting in my way allows me to acknowledge when the eight year old boy comes out to play when he doesn't need to. But do you find gets into way when you'll release conversations for me. I would say it's it's not listening to the inner intuition that enter enter chabahar. It's so interesting on my desk. I have this picture. There's four year old. john. I recently did this This really fascinating course called positive intelligence. Ai right and one of the exercises was to find an old picture of yourself picture of when your child and to reflect on this picture and so i don't know for the last four months or so. I've had this picture this four year old picture myself on my desk rather than neath a little lamp. That's gonna giving me larry now and it's amazing. How in farming it can be and to tie this into some of the other things. It's a beautiful way of removing judgment and labeling another people so the encouragement is not only checking in with the four year. Old version of yourself. That's like the most purest innocent essence of you. It's still there but seeing that child and other people. And i can't tell you how powerful is particularly people that really bug you particularly people that you're just like i cannot love that person and just can't go there man when you just make it up. It's like what do i think this person i think but i think brad looked like when he was four. And you know we can do that. I think and it changes everything. If i see if i'm really mad at you or i can't get along with you but i see you as a little four year old. What i say. And treat you the way i wanna treat you. Based on how mad. I am and frustrated with you wanna jerk. I think you are no changes everything. So yeah i was having a conversation with someone recently as having a hard time connecting and having compassion.

"It's about you completely got most of the time. The answer is to say what was getting in your way. That right the needs to be right That's one that pops up our locks Because i have a cognitive distortion of always being right. That's difficult to overcome that mean a cognitive distortion of always being so we have. We all have a board of directors in our head yes creates a map of the world of how we see things. Some people have one. That's like that. Powerless summit from white thinkers maximizes. Minimizes flamer's i'm a laborer. I like labeling people. I labeled a few people on the motorway the other day when they were driving on. I'm always right so because my labels are always right a great combination. How efficient really right. So when i'm in a discussion what is going my way. I'm not getting what i want. That's how it my way. It's it's surely i need to be right. So i'm forcing an issue or i'm coming back at someone I stopped hearing what they're saying. Because they're not saying is yet fragile right. And if you want the psychology of it you know these guys back to my mom telling me. I'm a genius on the sexual child and i'm very very when i was four years old. I mean it probably goes back to that as an adult. It's really ugly. And although i have an eight old child inside meet who i need to. Net doesn't need to come out. And i'm willing to put that out. There would be vulnerable as it needs to be full of of the five. Mrs the might by check this out. I want to give him a shout out. Sets michael doyle because i'm really interested to see what is reflections will be on this conversation. So yeah so the thing that gets in my way the nice guy an book i read loss year just to take back a podcast run. Holidays egos the enemy. It resonated so much because i think most of us took an honest look an honest reflection where there was no boundaries or comeback said about ourselves we would admit that when we take conversations down the wrong off if because of rigo go nuts. The cognitive distortion right. It's it's a decision of how the world and how i need to see the wells and therefore everything max against it. I'm so then. I start labeling center the first distortion..

"You say say what you mean. Meanwhile she say. And i love that. We're talking about a dump miguel ruiz's in his four agreement it is about being authentic with your word and i love that concept because what it does is it in naples me to hold it myself when i say something and actually means i can also put it back. I say something out loud and you're actually joan. I just said myself say no. That's just not true. I'm not gonna. I'm gonna own the fact that that's that's the as i'm sorry. I didn't think that drew. Let me rewind start again. And actually if you're in the middle of a you know an argument with somebody a partner left simply. I think it's interesting. We don't always let people take words back. We hold people to that what you said this. When i didn't mean that he had a you said it. I just wonder if when we say things in that moment. if we have this nuance non-communication. We would be entitled. Say john i just heard. I didn't mean not a tool and you would forget it in that moment. You say okay brad. If you didn't mean it what do you mean. And i'll tell you what i mean. I'm will move the compensation on but how many conversations get stuck because people don't say what they mean or mean what they say. I would come at a different way and say that that other is bringing meaning. I can't bring meaning to what you're saying. Only you brad can tell me the true meaning behind your words but when i decide what your words mean for you to me that the place. You can't really go. But people visit that place every day every day before i do too i do too. My wife says something. And i get hooked. And i'm like yeah because you meant this right and just like well. No i didn't. I'm like well surely you must have meant that. And then we just go round in circles until i like grow up enough to realize what do i remember years ago. My fact me for this being my brother's house and he's got four girls and three of them were on his back leg in shoulder you know as he will the says and his wife. Katie been doing the washing and left at the bottom of the stairs. You not take up on the next trip as my brother was like walking out the stairs. Three hanging from him. His wife came around the corner from the kitchen unsaid. Did you see the washing that relatively liberally stepped over to not like full on it with three girls on there right so of cool's he dropped. I like the idea of joe venus coming through as well and it's interesting when you said it because that's why i think it's it's for me. It's a cool topic. Because like you. When when i'm coaching i don't filter necessarily will time game to say because i want it to be as will scenting an intuitive as possible but i do know that i've received feedback before when i give feedback. Garages stretches where people have described it as it's like getting a bunch of flowers followed by brick. Oh that's better than the crap sandwich middle bit with me right. It's just his message. Let's talk about it and i was. You know. I want because the research powering in would said some example. What really gonna be thinking about it. I saw a post this week on social media dive representing himself as a career coach when i checked out his profile. You know he's a well tenured individual such a years experience as a career coach and the opening line of his priced. Was if your job is under threat. You've got to get back into the office in have facetime with your manages or they're not going to choose you and make you redundant right Yeah you'll snicker kind of tells me kind of along for so many years than the whole idea of facetime and we'll surely we live in a world where output contribution in value is more important than facetime Having said that. I noticed Nine hundred like seventeen hundred clemens you know and i thought maybe he was just tried to engage people you know. He's is being a little bit off center deliberately. So i felt compelled to respond to saying i feel as though what you'll suggesting denied people segma- coach because what about safety already working in a world of such archaic organizations. If the manager's bias get cooled out because he sees you in the office till seven o'clock in the evening come on really twenty twenty and he wrote back the heat with thousands of executives and had hundreds of either references. And i break back and said look. I'm not doubting your experience and questioning the power fuel as a coach. Actually our words have power. They have meaning responsibility without no on whether your unfiltered or not there's a nuance to your unfiltered style. As much as there is a nuance when you're filtering it. Yes okay. I this completely different direction than in the sense of. I believe that our word creates an r. Word our word stealing from the four agreements which i sorta started reading. What's so funny. I had someone that has kind of coaching inside. And he's like yeah. I don't wanna finish the four agreements. Because then i had to follow because he can read fifth agreement john. Oh you're telling me about that. Yeah the fifty agreement not appropriate. No this this and this comes up on my client. Work with Okay so yeah. On the one hand at the beginning i'm completely disagreeing with you and i'm completely agreeing with you. That's okay people know but in the sense of yes. I believe our word creates and i believe i would created the very smallest level so and sometimes i get i get. I lock horns with people on this in pickling coaching. Where it's like yeah. I said i would do that. And i intended to. But it didn't quite get it done. But the fact that i intended to means that it was good enough because i mean come on..
