"Black and white. Think red. It's 5 15, a time for Ben raby. All right, Joel, and they're calling it a business trip. The wizards and their traveling party of 100 plus touching down this morning in Japan. Yes, something a little different for training camp this year, the wizards and the Golden State Warriors with a couple of pre season games in Japan over the next four days and as head coach west on cell junior tells SiriusXM's NBA radio. The experience itself is going to be terrific. Opportunity to play preseason game in another country for Rudy to go back home. And of course, you're playing against the NBA champs, but what's not to like about that. And we know this is a critical portion of our training camp. And unseld reference, the wizards Rui hachimura, this has to be special for him the fourth year pro and Japanese native, looking forward to playing in front of friends and family over the next few days. "It's 5 36 on Wall Street time now for the Bloomberg sports update here Scott Steinberg. Good morning, Amy, some excitement in The Bronx last night as fans thought Aaron judge had home run number 61. Although it felt shy being caught at the wall, the Yankees would go on to win in ten innings over the Red Sox, 5 four. Thanks to Josh Donaldson's fourth walk off hit of the season. Here was Aaron judge after the game. Maybe. It was blowing out in the time I was hitting, but you know, just missed it, but it lined up for a nice little JD walk on us, for sure. It was the 16th walk off win for the Yankees this season, one shy of the most in a single season in franchise history. Tonight, judge will get another crack at number 61 when the Yankees and Red Sox face off again, Garrett Cole gets to start rich hill for the Red Sox. NBA news, the Boston Celtics have suspended head coach in May udoka for the upcoming season. "Enough to be official. The clouds opened up in Baltimore, stopped the game, the nationals trail, the Orioles, by the same three zero square they won by last night, and even before the reins, it was rap for Patrick Corbin done after four innings of 7 hit three run ball with 6 strikeouts and among that, home runs by Anthony Santander and Austin Hayes, the Nats bats, yielding only three hits against Tyler wells, they failed to take advantage of four walks going zero four one with runners in scoring position and stranding 7 total base runners, so the game right now in a delay, bottom of the 5th inning with the Orioles in front of the nationals. Three nothing. Game four of the Stanley Cup final in Tampa Bay. It is the lightning in front, one nothing as we're just out of first intermission there and a huge shots advantage for the avalanche, even though they're trailing on the scoreboard, 17 to four they are out shooting Tampa Bay. Somber day for the commanders and ravens organizations today, longtime defensive back brig Owens died today, died recently in the age of 79. They were the first interracial roommates in league history, and meanwhile, Baltimore, mourns the loss of a man whose personality is every bit as big as his 340 pound frame when he was a player, a former defensive tackle, Tony siragusa has died at the age of 55, carved out a really great career for himself, at least by the standards of being an undrafted player, won the Super Bowl's big part of that 2000 ravens defense and a contemporary ravens defender Jalen Ferguson has also died at the age of just 26. "Evening for the game of baseball objectively. A good night for baseball brought manfred pull off a big one. This was huge. This was gorgeous. This sets the tone for a great future for the game. The yankees had nothing to do with the victory in this game for about three and a half hours down seven four in the night. I don't think any of us would have been that upset. If andrew heaney had just blown up a baseball game and yet and yet somehow in the span of ten minutes we went right back into the worst loss of the season conversation. So i think it's time to do a breakdown of exactly where this ranks. Make sure to find us on apple podcast. Google podcast spotify. Wherever you get your podcast drop is a five star review. Along with mailbag question. We will be more than happy to answer that. I mean no. I won't be that happy to answer. Anything headed out of that one. I'm just. I'm just so sick of it man. I'm so sick of being a part of somebody else's storybook ending. It's getting really frustrating. Every game the every week the yankees have a game that is an embodiment of the fall. Plans delta variant. Meme we were coming for something. We ended up with nothing. This team is in a better position for the playoffs. Then they were a month ago two months ago. absolutely anthony. rizzo we'll come back. Garrett cole will come back jordan. Montgomery will come back corey. And they're a game behind the red sox on the loss column. They play the red sox. Six more times all you gotta do a split that double header win the game right. After and then went to edit three at fenway and then you know there are ways their paths to the playoffs. Hold off the blue jays etc. I understand. I'm not saying this isn't gonna make the playoffs. I am saying this team is cruising for the worst wildcard game loss. You will ever see what about this. Yeah that's all the problem of your yankees. Is the performance of roger chapman. Here of course yeah. Do you think they set them down. I mean i find a way to put the spider attack in his pants. That's what they probably have to do or get them in there and give them some sticky stuff. It will be back in Los Angeles on Wednesday night in baseball, the Brewers turn on the Jets in the eighth inning. Jackie sends it to left center indeed, way back right back on the warning track off below one runs gonna score for sure they will hold cast in here. Oh, a third long double bind. Jackie Bradley Jr. J B J kicks off what turns out to be a 10 run eighth inning for the crew as they run away from the Cubs. Final score of 14 to 4, a slow start for Freddie Parole so quickly turns into a standard Freddie gem. The first two batters Peralta faces. He issues a walk and then gives up a home run. It's two nothing before much of the crowd is through the turnstiles. The Cubs never touch them again in six innings. You kind of got locked in and started making pitches started kind of getting some just some lazy fly ball out and some early out. So you know, after the first two innings, you didn't think I didn't think six innings was going to be in the cards, but he was really sharp after Andrew Craig Council. Aaron Rodgers could potentially opt out of the 2021 NFL season for health and safety reasons. If he does, he would keep about 20 million bucks. But the decision would be permanent, and you would have to come to it by this Friday package reporter Jason Well, He doesn't see that happening. I don't think anybody thinks that someone who even with his unhappiness with the organization Still cares about his legacy and still cares about his teammates that he would actually do something so diabolical and quite frankly, dishonest. The Packers are set to report to training camp a little less than a month from today. Jean looping back around to the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. This is the game. This is it tonight. If you want to put this series to bed quick. You know, Trey Young is going to be banked up. Even if he does play. He's going to be hobbled. "Effect. Six games. Joey Votto, those on base percentage 3 60. Couple of Homer's nine ribbies. Four walks almost at 8 90 0 P s. Don't look now, Suarez. Slowly but surely he was on on May the eighth. He was hitting a buck three. He's now at 1 71. And I think people get caught up in looking at the 1 71 and say, Oh, he's all hitting 1 71. Do you know how hard it is? At this stage of the season or a couple of months into the season to move a batting average from 1 30 to 1 71, meaning the trend is headed in the right direction, four for nine in the series, a home run a double he's hit in three straight games. Oversized 18 games as O P S is over 800. You'll take it. Tyler Nick wins a guy who continues to almost confound me because I remember the conversation I had with my dad a weekend of the season. Two weeks into the season, he says, Oh, Tyler, anyone they'll never keep this up. I said, Yeah, but you're missing the point. I said what they've already gotten out of Tyler inequities, probably more than they could have expected this season. So even if he did fade away, think of the boost he meant to this team in the first 2 to 3 weeks of the season. Well, we're now 63 games into the season. Tyler. Nick wins O P s is over 800 In June. He's hitting 3 33 with a 9 60 0 P S. Tyler liquid runners in scoring position this year is hitting 3 20. Tyler Nick one. I'm going to keep saying this because he keeps he just keeps finding a way to do something to contribute to this team. And you know what else? I like? Well, clearly, Jonathan India has meant something to the top of this batting order. But and I think Bobby Nightingale wrote about this today. The infusion of youth on this roster. You can be a good thing. Sometimes you you can be like a painful a learning experience and they're so young. But other times, young guys can be energy. And they can be a spark. And maybe they can be a different vibe in a different look to veterans on a team who are used to doing it one way and suddenly look around and see young guys. Maybe doing it a different beat. You think? Hey, look at that. And that's India. Next Tyler Stevenson, and that's Vladimir Gutierrez. And that's Tony Santayana. That's Ryan Hendrix Santy own. Santiago was very good yesterday. He's going to have to be much better. He was. He got a break by playing a very offensively challenged team, and I can cite all the base runners and all the traffic and everything else. But the most important thing is he gave up one run yesterday one Run yesterday. Those are some of the things that jump out to me. Those are some of the things that I put on the list of things I like about this team. We've done a pretty good job. I've done a pretty good job of identifying things. I don't like about this team that have driven me crazy. But let's be honest. For all those moments, it did not look good for all those moments that they were challenged. They have responded. 63 games into the season. They are a winning baseball team with a first place showdown tonight in Milwaukee. That's our conversation tonight. Now, here's your phone line. 5137491 7800 the big £1.700 on a T and t. What do you make of this team? Bottom of the R check on news. Sam Querrey on becoming a stay-at-home dad

"Our special guest is Sam. Query SAM is a thirty two year old ranked number forty five in the world who just welcomed his first child a baby boy in February with his wife. Abby Dixon he tells us what it's like to jump from full-time tennis pro two fulltime Dad. As a member of the council he has a lot of insight into all the decision. Making that's been happening regarding the schedules in twenty twenty. And he also laments the loss of Wimbledon as someone that has reached the semi-finals there in two thousand seventeen and the quarter finals twice. He's GonNa Miss The all England club a lot this year but you still has world team tennis to look forward to something that he prioritizes each year. He tells us why. So here's our episode with Sam Querying All Right Sam. Welcome to the PODCAST. Thanks for joining us today. For having me. Let's kick off with number one question these days. How is this quarantine treating you? And what is life like in the Query Household You know it's the quarantines brutal like everyone else I mean. I know people have bigger problems when I got here at home but It's tough not playing tennis. Not Outside I feel bad for the rest of the US and the rest of the world so hopefully this all end in a in a few months and we can Flattened the curve as they say and as far as it goes for me and my wife and I have a five week old son at home. So we're keeping busy. You know up during the night or you know. Mostly her feen and You Know Swat on him gone on some neighborhood walk so he's keeping US busy. So that's the No the one good part for this is that I get to be home with my little newborn son where Norway to normal tennis schedule. I probably would have missed a handful of these first few months. Yeah your son was born from what I can tell February nineteenth. That is a very very newborn baby. You were not expecting to become a full-time father so quickly. Were you know we were? Actually you know we. We were down in the Indian Wells Tournament. We drove down my wife. My mother-in-law father-in-law. My parents were down there. The tournament got cancelled and and You know we. We drove back home. And then you know we've been home ever since I was planning on. Go to Miami. I'm going to Miami and Houston and kind of getting a little break. I guess you would call it away from waking up early and waking up during the evenings to help out but You know now I'm just at home during the full-time fulltime dad thing or as much as I can't do that you know the man doesn't. I don't offer that much to the child. At this point it is joined the whole thing. I mean this is your first child. It's very exciting. I mean tell us more about Ford. Where where'd you get that name from? Actually it's a very unique name. Yes it's a family named for my wife side. It's her grandmother's name. And so it Kinda popped up popped up in our heads a few months before he was born and we we both really liked it. And so we We stuck with it and so far. Being a dad is great. I've really looking forward to having kids for a while and so's my wife and so you know this process. It's definitely challenging. Like anyone would say with the you know trying to keep them happy and basically you know you need your undivided attention between one of us. Twenty four seven but it's really fulfilling and really fun and he. He slowly getting to the point where he's kind of having some little expressions on his face and smiles every now and then you can tell starting to look at you a little more We also have a one year old chocolate labs or trying to get the two of them to get along which is a little tricky right now but a hopefully they'll become friends and a couple of years. Technically you have two babies at home. Pretty much Yes exactly the dog obviously has more energy than any animal. I've ever seen in my life and then the baby Kinda sleeps all day. So they're they're kind of on opposite schedules which is funny but you know definitely adds a little twist things when you've got the one year old puppy to deal with as well of the positives that. I'm sure that you can see. Is that by having puppy? That is a chocolate lab and super energetic. Probably have a lot of time to go and exercise with him. Exactly we're going You know like a lot of the neighborhood where we live. I mean it when we we've gone on to three or four walks day and you see a bunch of kids their bikes out on skateboards and everyone kind of is leaving the house at some point or other during the day trying to get some exercise of course keeping away from each other. But it's a very active neighborhood right now. We've seen a lot of players finding creative ways to stay fit and even trying to maybe have Iraq in their hands and even hitting on little home tennis courts. Did you have a court? You can hit on nearby. That's safe so to speak or are you keeping the tennis spirit alive. Yes no I mean in Los Angeles. We're right now. There's a handful of people that have private tennis courts around. I didn't hit this last week. I'm not hitting this week but to pay on how long this kind of warranty lasts. I am going to have to find a court at some point and get some reps in so There's a couple of people I know that. Have accorded their house. I can open with a coach. Keep it to two or three people and and probably kind of get some reps in some tiny houses on my and things like that and then hopefully when things are are lifted and we have a little more freedom to walk around You know I can get back some more. A kind of Richmond in practice of some of the other pros. Do you WANNA get back. Start playing again. But you don't really have a reason to just yet so speaking of recording this a little bit ahead of the official news but it looks like Wimbledon. It's going to be cancelled. And you are someone that has absolutely thrived at the All England Club. You've made the semi-finals their quarterfinals. Twice a move like that. Are you shocked by having the Grassi's in now go yeah? I'm I'm really bombed? I saw it coming. I think everyone saw him coming You know we've got to get this virus under control but not only just because it's Wimbledon but every time it gets cancelled. It's it's such a huge bummer and You know like you said it's hard to start practicing because we don't know the start date of when we're gonNA play so it's not a let me answer a lot of players are now. You're not overly motivated to get in the gym and get on the Court. Because hey is are we gonNA play again in three months and six months in twelve months? So it's tough to time it so just got to kind of do your best to stay active and and hit when you can and and then once the You know once we know what's going on and we know. Hey we're GONNA start playing tennis October. I really for a player like me and I think most buyers if you have four to six weeks to prepare and practicing tim you can be back to your your high end playing level relatively soon exactly. I think that's that's a pretty good way to look at it but again I mean I'm still pretty stuck on this thing. You made the quarterfinals there last year. And now you know that the rankings are at this point frozen. Is it a massive relief thinking that you don't have to defend that no? I mean I'd rather I look. I'd rather I'd rather go play lose first round lose all the points and just be able to play Wimbledon to to miss. It is is worse than than worrying about defending points. I mean I know some people might be worried about that but for me. I'm not worried about defending points. I'd rather go out and lose. First Round of the next fifteen tournaments. I play but at least have the chance to play so I guess we're not exactly sure on the tour what we're doing the ranking jet as of now. They're frozen wants to get going again. We'RE GONNA determine how they're going to you know how points drop off how they're going to or how they're gonna go about doing the ranking system. So like I said I. I'm not worried about the points coming off and I would rather just play the council meetings. I mean it's it's hard to have everybody's opinions and different people shouting at different things at different ways on how to keep the points how to defend the points how to restructure the ranking system. Pretty much by the time we come back. Were you on the end of wanting to keep the freeze or were you against the freeze? Or what are your thoughts on the whole process on figuring out the ranking system? Yeah I'm for the freeze in. I'm on I'm on the player council assignment although the phone calls and things and there's so many different options in scenarios and we're trying to narrow down to the best one and the only thing that I can really say for sure is whatever solution we come to. It's not gonNa work for everyone. There's GonNa be people that benefit from it and people that don't benefit from it. So that's what makes this difficult as well as there's not going to be a perfect solution and that that's what tennis all sports all things alive. There's not going to be a perfect solution that fits everyone so everyone has to be somewhat flexible with whatever the decision is that the council sort the tour decides when it comes to the

Astonishing and shocking the area where the spire once was was still burning with sparks falling from the cathedral vaulted ceiling as of Monday night, people outside were singing hymns and gasping as they watch much of the much of the cathedral burned to the ground. The Paris mayor and had although urged the public to respect the security perimeter around the cathedral while firefighters tackled. The terrible blaze added that the areas close to the scene were evacuated. Rich Lowry over at national review has a good review about what exactly Notre dominant means. Does Notre Dame stands for so many qualities that we now lack patients and staying power the cultivation of beauty a deep religious faith, the cultural confidence and ambition to build a timeless monument of our civilization that the collapse of inspire is almost too much to bear the great novelist. Victor Hugo who did so much provide interest in the cathedral when it was in disrepair in the nineteen th century wrote. How quote every surface every stone of this. Venerable pile is a page of the history, not only of the country, but of science and art work of generations completed across three centuries in triumph over considerable arc. Conceptual and logistical challenges at arose at the original site of a pagan temple thousands of tons of stone has to be transported from outside Paris, one ox-cart or barge at a time. So cheated soaring height and hold up at ceiling and walls relied on the architectural innovations of the rib vaults and the flying buttress France, built eighty cathedrals in five hundred large churches across this period says rich lower there's only one at Notre Dame of Paris gothic jewel who's towers prior. To the advent of the Eiffel tower the tallest structure in the city. It is or one hates to think was torn by what are culturally significant artifacts in their own, right. The statutory meant to illustrate the story of the bible and to all worshippers couldn't read the stained glass windows, that took ingenuity to embed in stone, walls and are themselves are tick Marvel's the Oregon with more than eight thousand pipes the bells with their names, including the largest masterpiece. Emmanuel dating back to the fifteenth century and recast in sixteen eighty one not to mention the religious relics. That means so much to the Catholic faithful it has been the of countless processions in services to petition and thank God on behalf of the French nation. It is where less is. Marriages and funerals occurred or Napoleon crowned himself emperor or Charles de Gaulle attended a mass to celebrate the liberation of Paris in nineteen forty four riflefire echoing outside it's revived the rampages of iconoclastic huge knots in the sixteenth century the depredation of radicals during the French revolution into the eighteenth century. They transformed it into a friend to the cult of reason used it. As a warehouse in wanted to melt down the bells and incidental damage during two world wars in the twentieth century all the while at accumulated layers in history. And meaning it's great advocate Hugo author of the famous Hunchback of Notre Dame wrote of how the greatest productions of architecture are not so much work of individuals as a community. I rather the offspring of a nation's labor than the outcome of individual genius that a positive a whole people the heaped up treasurer of centuries, the residual left by successive evaporation of human society in a word a species of formations each wave of time leaves it's coating of Luhya alluvial each race deposits layers on the monuments, each individual contribute to stone to it. And that of course is exactly right is amazing at tweeted something out that I thought frankly was. Was really uncontroversial. I tweeted out that Notre Dom was a was a totem to western civilization and of western civilization, and people that very upset with this particularly a lot of folks on the left were very upset with this. I tweeted out if we wish to uphold the beauty and profundity of the Notre Dame cathedral means reefa millions ourselves with the philosophy and religious principles that built it means reefa. Millions ref- Amelia rising ourselves with the precepts of Catholicism with western history with what Catholicism was without contributed to the west. And all this stuff seems deeply important to me this became very controversial lot of folks on the left were very upset with me for suggesting this. They said why can't we just appreciate it just as a piece of art? You can appreciate it. However you want, but if you want to know why so many people in the west were deeply affected by the burning of Notre Dom. It wasn't just because it was icon. Ick is because Notre Dame holds deeper meaning because it is a totem of a chain of history that culminates in the modern west. They can see the sort of sort of anodyne version of mourning for the cathedral from Ilhan, mar she tweeted out art and architecture have unique ability to help us connect across our differences and bring people together and important ways. Thinking of the people of Paris in praying for every first responder trying to save this wonder. Again, it's fine to look at Notre Dame is just art and architecture, but it has deeper resonance than that. And that was the point that I was making is that the residents of Notre nam is about the faith that inspired. Notre and listen, this is coming from a Jew this coming for an orthodox Jew house. So important to remember then note for Dom is again a historical monument to the chain of history of which we are apart and Ronin entire book about this. My book the right side of history talks about this chain of history Judeo Christian history of the west and how Judaism and Christianity combined with Greek reason in play in intention created the world in which we live. I want to read a section from the talking about the period during which Notre Dame was built Notre Dame. Of course was built during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Took a couple of centuries to complete which in and of itself. Is an amazing testament to the human mind ends of the power of the eternal to inspire the human mind. Because after all why plant the tree if you're not going to get to sit in its shade. Why build a building if you know that you're not gonna get completed because our task is not to complete the building. Our task is to join in the building of that structure in the first place. Here's what I talk about in my book with regard to this period in western history. From the fall of Rome through the twelfth century. Christianity would spread from its base in the Italian peninsula in the British Isles, France, Germany, and eventually the Nordic countries as well. Well, understand had posited. A great divide between the city of God. In the city of van. The Catholic church was quite active in the city of man, the church receive tithes from Christians the Continente over had its own ecclesiastical courts by the tenth century, the church was the single largest landowner in western Europe kings found their legitimacy through the conduit of the church and battles with the church to expand their own power. Holy Roman Emperor. Henry the fourth walk barefoot in the snow earn back the approval of pope, Gregory the seventh and within seconds of England eleven thirty three to eleven eighty nine had himself flogged in order to win back. The. Approval of his Christian population. After accidents ordering the death of archbishop Thomas Becket popular history maintains that this period represents the dark ages, but that's simply inaccurate progress. Continued as Christianity spread the monastic system centralized learning in monasteries where priests nuns devoted themselves with Sediq pursuit of divine understanding in educational terms this devotion revolved around scripture. The Benedictine monks. For example, lived under the rules created by Saint Benedictine for eighty two five forty seven a set of orders regarding the hierarchy of monasteries the behavior by which to abide and the requirements of work the arts thrived in the monastic system manuscripts were preserved by monks devoted to writing new copies and beautifying them in the monastic system. The liberal arts taught by the Greeks and the Romans as championed by Cicero and Seneca among others survived albeit in Spiritualized form gusted himself, despite his distaste for paganism suggested that the liberal arts education could be hijacked for service to God. I'll Guston likened such cultural appropriation to the Jews taking gold during the biblical exodus. These liberal arts were categorized by the philosopher both into the famous Quadra, verion music, arithmetic, geometry, and astronomy and trivia, grammar rhetoric and logic. Meanwhile, the middle ages saw technological revolution. In agriculture, the rise of commerce institution of new forms of art ranging from polyphonic music to gothic architecture. Notre Dame would be a perfect example of gothic architecture. It also saw new developments in the art of war with technology developments that would allow the west to defeat its enemies in the course of coming centuries while many history historians tout the power of Islamic civilization during this time period and Islam civilization did thrive on the Arabian peninsula, particularly when his Llamas civilization came up against western civilization. At the battle of tours Islamic forces were soundly defeated by the eighth century. Christian leaders were crusading against enslavement, except notably for the enslavement of Muslim war. Captives monasteries were engaging in proto capitalism as well. Furthermore, the Catholic church was responsible for learning and teaching virtually all literacy sprang from honest, Aries still the modern world could not have been created. Under these circumstances. But I write my book faith provided individual moral purpose faith provided collective moral purpose, but while individual capacity was bolstered by the doctrinal belief in free will and the value of work reason had been made secondary to faith. Well, collective capacity was bolstered by the presence of a strong social fabric. The all encompassing. Power of the Catholic church and the rule of monarchs that that individual choice. It was heavily circumscribed even education had been radically reoriented toward the church ultra knowledge lay in the bible. The liberal arts were only useful so far as they bolstered the biblical story for science and democracy. Take hold in the west reason would have to be elevated once more
