Dick Fosbury, who won an Olympic gold medal with the ‘Fosbury Flop,’ dies at 76

"Fosbury flop high jumper dick Fosbury has died. I'm Lisa dwyer. Dick Fosbury who completely revamped the technical discipline of high jump and won an Olympic gold medal with its Fosbury flop, has died. Before Fosbury, high jumpers cleared their heights by running parallel to the bar, then leaping over it with a scissors kick. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Fosbury used his new technique to set an Olympic record and win gold. Fosbury took off at an angle leaped backward and bend himself into a J shape to catapult his 6 foot four inch frame over the bar. By the next Olympics, 28 of the 40 jumpers were using the Fosbury flop. Today it is by far the most used technique for elite high jumpers, Fosbury's publicist

"74, which is our high for today. We are already there. Light rain this morning, flood watch to a 5 o'clock, could get two to four inches of rain, rain could be very heavy at times today, a high near 74. It's WNYC at 7 45. It was one to one. It's morning edition from NPR news. I'm Rachel Martin. And I'm a Martinez. Who killed veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Ahmed. For the first time, Israel has announced one of its soldiers was likely responsible. Was killed four months ago while covering in his really operation against Palestinian gunmen in the occupied West Bank. She was Palestinian American, the U.S. has demanded accountability for her death. NPR's Daniel estrin has been covering this case. He joins us from Tel Aviv, Daniel, what conclusions did Israel reach? Well, the military says there is a quote high possibility that its soldier fired the bullet. They say there is still a possibility of Palestinian did it, though, is the closest to the army taking some responsibility But they say there's no reason to punish anyone. They say the soldier had limited visibility in his armored Jeep. He mistakenly identified her as a gunman and they say it's tragic, but justifiable. This was during an Israeli operation combating a wave of Palestinian attacks. Soldiers were under heavy Palestinian gunfire that morning. The military advocate general reviewed all the evidence that the investigation of the military and decided there was no evidence of criminal intent. So no soldiers are being investigated, the army has not explained why they determined it was okay for the soldier to open fire, and this was caught on tape. When it was quiet for minutes and there was no gunfire of any Palestinians as the journalist approached wearing her vest, which was marked press. What took Israel until now to acknowledge its soldier was a likely responsible. I know that's something the U.S. concluded a long atomic months ago actually. That's right. And also The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, all had experts examine video evidence, and they reached the same conclusion that Israel was likely responsible. The army was conducting its own investigation, looking at drone footage, collecting evidence, the noteworthy thing a is that is not that it took four months here, but that Israel even acknowledged potential responsibility at all. Israel's track record is that it does not investigate many or all Palestinian casualties. What was different here? Serena berkley was a U.S. citizen and the U.S. pushed Israel to cooperate and Palestinian authorities to cooperate on an investigation and reach a conclusion and put this case to rest. So how is Israel's announcement being received? Well, sharina buckler's family is disappointed, but not surprised, and they want the International Criminal Court to investigate. The Israeli human rights group at Selma, a leading group accuses Israel of a quote outrageous policy in the West Bank. They say Israel permits its soldiers to open fire with little restriction, and indeed scores of Palestinians have been killed this year, both gunmen and uninvolved civilians, including at least one Palestinian killed in a firefight with soldiers today. So just to be clear, no soldiers held accountable so then Daniel, what's the takeaway here? I mean, is there any way to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the future? The takeaway is we're going to have to see how the U.S. response. I mean, we have seen a vague State Department statement that welcomed Israel's announcement, but saying that quote, we underscore accountability in this case, such as policies and procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. So that's the question. She was an American citizen. Will the U.S. continue to press Israel? We haven't seen any evidence that the Israeli army is taking any measures to change its standard operating procedures to prevent this in the future

"Two this Sunday night. Or download on the I heart radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's start with sauces. This is really cool. They're not that difficult and key ingredient to me is catch up. It's one of the things that we buy in bulk. It's the base for a lot of different sauces. The fork report with Neil Saavedra this afternoon at two on a F I am 6 40. More stimulating talk. Kind of find second hand so very moving. She wouldn't wear much small very much. I think I love Kft. Dean Sharp. The house whisper at your service. My plan to do a good Saturday morning to you, my friend So glad you joined us this morning. We are talking about unconventional breaking with conventions in your kitchen. We talked about Cabinet kicks and a couple of other things. Now it's time to move on to one of my design pet peeves. That is the overuse of backsplashes. Yeah, Let's talk about backsplashes today is just to show to get you thinking, build a little courage in you so that if you redoing your kitchen, you think you know what? Maybe we should take some of these bits of advice and make our kitchen a little bit more dynamic a little bit more dramatic. A little bit more unique, Okay? So backsplashes. Now here's Here's an area that will apply to everybody because unlike cabinets, backsplashes are not mass produced. They are going to be customized to your kitchen at your direction. Okay, so this is truly something that is in your hand to control. Let's talk about backsplashes. Originally the standard backsplash that has kind of become the industry standard was four inches tall, about four inches tall tile backsplash, and why four inches tall I'll tell you why, because countertops were originally made out of ceramic tile, four inch ceramic tiles. In general. So what do you do on the backsplash? You turn up one of those tiles vertically along the back wall and you get a four inch tall backsplash. There you go. That's how these things start. Right? It's not like some site backsplash scientist was like, Oh, the four inch four inches. That is the perfect height for the back. No, it's just one tile turned up on the back of the countertop, All right. Even today, by the way, if the you know less expensive countertops like Formica preformed Formica countertops that you might find sitting around like at a big box hardware store. You're going to find that their preformed with a four inch backsplash on them. Just there It is. Convention can Bension Then came, uh, the introduction of you know, in the in the seventies, early eighties, you know, we started doing away with ceramic tile countertops it be. They went out of fashion and people started saying, Well, you know what I have in my kitchen? I have granite slabs on my kitchen counters. Lookout, swanky. I am And with those granite countertops came the full height backsplash, meaning the full 16 or 18 inches from the countertop all the way up to the bottom of the upper cabinets. Now full height, backsplash. Bit of a status symbol. It also though, Okay, we'll give it. This allows you to see your lovely countertop material from across the room because you spend all this money on a, you know, Granted or marble countertop. Whatever.

"I don and garden show. Here we are. Good morning. Once again. I'm Bill Rhoden. And I'm David Roger Reassume Born here for another 20 minutes or so. And we have some open lines. Cover them to one. Oh, 737 1200. 1 803 8396 to 4. Let's start things off by going to see again talking to joy. Joy. Morning, joy. Good morning, Harry. All very blessed. Like good. Um, I have a question about a crepe myrtle. Okay. My daughter and I planted two in her front yard. And one of them is all brown for some reason, And we have no idea why. When was the planet and, uh, tell me a little bit of the container? How big was the train? What size container? Um, it was planted, like, probably maybe two months ago. Okay, so going into summer time. What with the selection is the best, but it's hot. And I'll tell was the tree. Um Probably like Um three or four ft, Maybe at the most. Okay, So how long did start looking at Brown and stuff just started looking like that. Just like a couple weeks ago or so. Okay now, Brown leaves. Are they holding onto the tree or they falling off? They were holding on. Okay. Okay, so they're not dropping. They weren't. Okay. So if they're if they're turned brown and they drop normally, we let them dry out too much. As they're holding on and I drop, and that's usually opposite. It's both water related typically, so you're watering what? Three times a week on the street? Probably too much water. That's what's causing that. Okay, all right, what we needed to do and say it's kind of a new, unique situation. Cramer girls We find the best selection, particularly colours and types. In the summer months, and we really want to get them when they're blooming. So that's that's okay, because you can plant container plants any time of the year. But the summer heat is uniquely tough on establishment purposes. So we always want to plant plants, trees, shrubs, etcetera. That are in balance. You know, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. And we want a good, um, good root system. We want to examine that root system when we pop it out that container. And we want to make sure we see white, fibrous, vibrant root system We want to if it's very rude bound Tremendous amount of root mass and girdled. We want to open it up. Open it up. Open it up. Loosen them up. Then then plant them. And then I tell folks on Cramer Tal's cut all the limbs off. Put all the blames off because we're trying to reestablish through the summer months. Blooms are good next year or in the fall because we're trying to root these treason. So what I would do right now is stripped. Those leaves what you've done already. Get your fingernail and cut into the wood, and hopefully it's still green. It is. I did that. Okay, so let's tip. Let's tip Bruno's branches that had battle leaves 33 to 43 to four inches from the top down at an angle. And then we want to look at the crown of the plant. To make sure it's not accidentally planted too deep with access. So our malt so you might have to move away some extra storm malts. And then we want you to get a gallon of root stimulator and use. It is recommended on the bottle till you finish it up, and hopefully it will be pushing out and then multi multi molds. 4 to 4 FT. Minimum multiple Smaltz and then water deep once a week, and then when you're ready to water the next time Dig a little bit underneath the motion. If it's wet. Let's try to push in our three days or so and a quarter, usually by mid to late September. We can cut watering for most plants because it starts cooling in the day and night nights are very hot here. To once every three weeks. And then once it goes in the winter. We don't even water Basically most of the winter times, right? Okay. Okay, So we tip it back, You said like four inches. Did you say from the top, uh, down at an angle? Okay, We're trying to get this thing back and balance and hopefully as long as there's green. There's a chance that can make it Okay, so you but you, you cut every limb right? Every branch only the ones that look real bad. If they slice and green leave them alone. Okay, There's no green on the tree. She cut him cut all the tips cut all the tips back to the green. Cut them all joy to interrupt, But we got to move along that all the lines full. If you would read appreciate you keeping it to one question per person. Please, please, let's go to Steven. Good morning, Stephen. Coming help you Good morning. I have to live oak trees that are about 10 to 12 inches in diameter, and they're about 20 ft High. You came with the house and they're about four ft. Apart from each other, and it looks like they've been growing. It looks like they're competing against each other and kind of angling out. They look healthy. They look great. I'm not sure if I need to get an arborist to come out here to see whether I just need to leave them be or cut one down to save the other. Yeah, you know barley, tree experts or any good arborists and the San Antonio are versus association. Can always be very helpful. Um, and that's the biggest issue with with trees, which is a long term investment. We want to plant the ride, variety, just scale. And planning to trees. Four FT Apart that gets 50 ft wide is that not to scale so this is how I would approach it. Keep one of the two because you can train 12 beautiful, nice canopy, or keep the two and growing as a multi trunk like an Oakmont. And let them grow into each other but kind of branches that are close to one or close to the other morning. The midsection maybe see how they grow into each other, making the multi trunked tree That's how I would approach that. I appreciate that. I'm going to give Bartlett a call, and we'll just go from there. Can't thank you enough. Yeah. They're great folks over there. Steve. We need to get them. Uh, I'll call him this week. Maybe Jacob West can come to Give him a chance. I don't think you could check that aren't true One? Oh, 737. Well, actually, the lines are all full right now. So if you're trying to get in, you can't. Uh, go to Alan. Alan. How can we help you? Good morning, guys. Um, quick question. I've got a year old justice. Uh, Christmas cactus. Just want to know when a good time replant. That thing is because it definitely looks like it just went home. Okay. The Lord Spoke to Prophet Mike Thompson About a Tearing in Washington D.C.

"Five and a half six months ago. Lord spoke to me about a tearing in washington. Dc vision a tearing. Yeah in this vision. He took me to washington. Dc and he showed me politicians. There were many of them. Those in the su- administration right at this particular point others many where there was a tearing their clothes. It would occur in their shirt or their blouse should their pants their skirt and the tears would be like two to four inches. They start at the top and they would go down towards the bottom and the symbolism of that i think was important because it meant from heaven earth. It was like the tearing of the veil. When jesus was crucified and then parts of their skin would be exposed and that exposing was what god was beginning to show me at that point that as we proceeded that there would be greater exposing not just exposing. But something done about it. And that's why the angels in the vision. That i had just a few days. Ago is so important. The army of angels because something was being done about it. We can't see everything that's happening behind the scenes. You see my My gift is to see what's going on in the spiritual realm and then report it to the body of christ so that they can see those kind of things and have hope and have a sense of direction and purpose. The prophecy never ever ever exalts itself above the word of god So we always match. According to what god is saying but one of the things we have to understand is even though that the holy spirit will never violate the word of god. The holy spirit doesn't mind violating our interpretation and misunderstanding of the word of god Because he is god and so what he's doing is he's moving. There is a great revival. That is happening right now. Airy this is we are. On the verge. We're on the coast of something that is just changing like

This is a great achievement and an inspiring image for the entire team. Webb's primary mirror is a critical piece of the instrument, a telescope sensitivity is directly related to the size of its mirror, which determines how much light the telescope can collect from the objects that it observes. So Webb's mirror has to be really, really big in order for the instrument to be as powerful as possible.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Mark New Smartphone Era for Google

"Yesterday unveiled the pixel six with a six point. Four inch ninety hurts display and the pixel six pro with a six point seven inch one hundred twenty hertz display and four x optical zoom coming in the fall. It's sort of what you'd expect from the new pixel. There's the usual playful colors. There's the bolt design choices. There's a full on camera band on the back. Check the pictures to see what i mean. And that band houses three cameras a wide angle main sensor ultra-wide and a four x optical zoom folded telephoto lens. But there are two interesting things here. I remember how google had been positioning the pixel lineup as the best mid range phone you could buy well. No more quoting dealer at the verge if the final versions are anything. Like the prototypes. I saw last week. They will be the first pixel phones that don't feel like they're sandbagging when it comes to build quality. We knew we didn't have what it took to be in the ultra high end in the past. Rick osterloh of google admitted quote and this is the first time where we feel like we really have it and quote both versions of the pixel are glass sandwiches with fit and finish that are finally in the same league as wet samsung highway. An apple have to offer quote. We've definitely not been in the flagship tier here. For the past couple of years this will be different says osterloh. He also admits that quote. It will certainly be a premium priced product. Which i take to mean north of one thousand dollars and quote but the other really interesting thing about the new pixels are that they have a google designed tensor system on a chip inside them. This is the first time google exclusive. Silicon has made. Its way to a phone. That probably accounts for those flagship ambitions. Quoting the verge again. Tensor is the system on a chip with a mix of components that google itself has designed and others that it has licensed. Google is not sharing. Who designed the cpu and gp nor is it sharing benchmarks on their performance. Though osterloh says that it should be market

"You thought buying an external microphone was enough first of all. Let me applaud you for actually fine an external mic because using the internal mike on a computer will not sound good but the external mic by itself will not get you good recording. The reason why it won't get you good recording sound all by itself. Is there other factors at play. Things like recording environment things like your mic technique which will cover in a minute but the first reason that your podcast sound isn't good. Is it. you think that just getting a microphone. We'll do the trick. It won't which brings me to number two and this one is a big one. You'll see in a minute. How big is your microphone is too far away from your mouth. Repeat that your microphone is too far away from your mouth. This is a common problem that i see over and over and over again when you have the microphone too far away from your mouth. It won't sound good. So here's the trick if you're on video and you can't see the microphone. Chances are it's too far away from your mouth. Don't allow yourself to fall victim to this easy mistake which is so to resolve which is simply just have the microphone about two to four inches from your mouth. Look at the way. What Happens to All the Stuff We Send Into Space?

"Since the launch of sputnik in nineteen fifty seven humans have been sending all sorts of things into space stuff like the serious eight and new satellite just launched by stitchers parent company or cargo space craft bringing supplies to space station's not to mention the most prising stuff like golden records or read tesla's an estimated thirty five thousand bits of Incentives right up to objects at the size of double decker buses up to of course international space station which is said to be the size of american football fields or five bedroom house. That's dr alice. Gorman associate professor at flinders university in south australia and one of the world's leading space archaeologists she studies all sorts of ways. Humans have engaged with space including these tens of thousands of objects rocketing around in earth orbit. And that's just stuff four inches and bigger there's believed to be millions of objects anything smaller than that. They distributed from lois little bit which is about two hundred kilometers above the surface of the us up to maybe about one thousand two thousand kilometers then. You have raged. That's just cold middle or medium business and then you get into. The high as obits. Miss includes Stationary orbit which is where bust of telecommunications satellites used to think of these orbits kind of like three lanes of a running track with satellites and spacecraft as the runners zipping around and around in their respective lanes. But note that for this analogy to work the track would be really really big and runners relatively teeny if we go out there and look at these might only say one object within your field. You so that impression. We have a stuff's closely packed together. Just together that's actually luck. Absolute worst case scenario. Which we're not at yet. There's growing concern about what will happen over. The next few decades as there are a lot of plans to launch way more stuff into orbit. And here's the thing. The vast vast majority of objects orbiting the planet is considered space junk.

Nick Cannon Is Expecting His 4th Baby in a Year

"I have to begin by talking about this Nick Cannon, the host of The Masked Singer, the guy who has become so goddamn militant who has 6 jobs and threatened to sue different networks because of how he's being treated. This guy now, you know, he was also married to Mariah Carey and had two babies. Didn't we all kind of think he was a normal dude back then? Wasn't he kind of a normal dude? And then the turban started coming on his head and then, you know, he'd wear the tight suits with no socks off. I don't want. I wore suits with no socks and black loafers. I kind of dug that shit for a while. But his pants were like four inches too short. I'm not how that can be the style. It's so unbecoming, but he changed. Now this guy, him, he and a model, Alyssa Scott are expecting a baby boy. Which I told you about his habits of impregnating women months ago. This will be his 7th child and his fourth baby in a year.

That is. And when complete. Guess what they burn up completely in the atmosphere. No ground surviving components. Aluminum oxide is sprayed over the electronic area to prevent the release that is of gases into space. A charge on a comedic kind of note. "Are you located and are are you frozen or are you. Okay shape at this point. I'm in richmond. Virginia and We are used to a little bit of snow. We didn't have any last year But we had a bunch of snow last week and then we've got. We had ice all day today like the forecast was four inches of ice. And we actually got it. It was hike. It's pretty gross everybody. Espn i mean when we snow like that things are shut down people pile on some food in the house and just just wait it out. 'cause it'll be fifty in on saturday. It'll be fifty problem. It's no it's yeah we are looking forward. I think i saw thirty five or forty in the forecast for later in the weekend and today i went out. It was twenty four. I was like let's put shorts on. It felt so that was twenty to thirty degrees wing. We've been negative temps for the last. Two negatives is below john young welcome to nebraska right teams and that wasn't even with wind show that was just standard temps. Yeah yeah that's that's outside for a few minutes if your skin is exposed. It's freezing so you have to really. I mean it's dangerous to be outside and i ask you guys a question now far away because well watching a couple of series yes a couple of seasons of far. I wonder as well as you know minnesota places. I wonder where do you guys put all your jackets when you get where you're going outside right. I mean you just like a got cold now pandemic. Wow we're not moving around as much as we used to. So there's just less of that and then you kind of hardened to it you know you kinda like well. Scarf hat. Have a heat of eight thirty at night in winter. That's like cold. And i don't even put anything on. If i'm going somewhere. I just sorta deal with it. I put a hoodie on the cars. Warm we're going warm. I'm not going outside. I just don't want to deal with the jacket. Yeah yeah well you get kind of used to it. Here in nebraska. I don't you know. I went out today. It was twenty four. I went out with this. "So do you think the ball was embedded? I think the ball wasn't my lord. They had two inches of rain today before there were all kinds of ways to which is a rain footage. It was four inches deep of grass because they went out there afterwards and measured it. Don't argue with me argue with the rules. Officials understand that used well, I think My personal opinion is, I think Patrick Reed press down on the grass. A. Yeah, that broke the plane, didn't it? I mean, I got an iceberg. I want to send so your fruits Holy moly. You really think that that ball was embedded? Well, I didn't think was embedded when I saw the shot, But after after everything that went on, and then the official came over and stuck his finger down there and decided it was There was a pitch fruit and when you're testifying, inquired asked. An answer is is the is the response to Jimmy's last question? Exactly. The Michael. I mean, what's what's reached playing partners. Aren't they supposed to be protecting the rest of the field? And are they supposed to be kind of hovering around this thing or not? I don't know. You're not supposed to hover over it, so he did. What do you suggest? Hey, guys, I'm gonna check it. To see if it is, they said. It didn't bounce, so he's going off of knowledge based there now the camera angles, not the best. So when he puts his tea down, is he pressing down on the golf ball to make it indented in there? You don't know that. That's all speculation? Nobody would knows. You know what he did, but at the time, So if I'm checking my ball I'm marking, and I'm telling my playing partners that I'm gonna be touching my golf ball. I'm lifting it up very carefully Looking underneath, trying to see it. I might pull it out to see where it is. And then I'm gonna put it back. And then I'm gonna call one of them over or the rules official over and say, Hey, guys, can you check this and let me know if you think it's embedded or not? I think it is. And then go from there, not pick it up completely out of there and have it in the palm of your hand Cleaning it off, doing whatever you're doing with it, and then you know, setting it off to the side like, Oh, no, I'm not touching it. So it's okay on Ben calling the guy over. So his procedure the way he went about. It is probably not the best way not the way 99% of the players would have gone about it. The fact that the cameras on we see it bounce. It's not embedded. How you know they felt it, You know, I mean, that could have been a heel print. It could have been anything where you know he's feeling around out all the rules official over first before he touched the ball at all. Not before he touched it before he took it out. Absolutely, you know, so he has the player have what he did was correct. He marked it told his playing partners. He was going to check it. He checked it after that, he didn't quite go. Is copasetic the way most people would go get the ball in his hand while he's pressing in the invention, Mark That's the problem that I have in the whole thing. All right around the table real quick. He's got the reputation of a cheater. Does that reputation. He's guilty of being cheated. It certainly has the reputation of it. Does that follow him? No doubt about 11 time. Yes, one time. Absolutely. It happens in golf. You're just that's your That's that's what you're known for. Sorry. I mean, that's it's a game of honor. It is the game of honor where you call penalties on yourself, and you do not cheat. Burnitz, and it's easy to cheat fruit. It is, does he deserve their reputation? I don't think it's a bad rap. I don't think It has had or will have any long term effects for Reed. There seems to be a stigma with some of the players about him. It's certainly not with the fans. They all considering Captain America. I mean, the Shambo has tried to get away with a few things a few times, too, and no one is out there trying to hang him so I think the players have a problem with Patrick Reid in general and But I don't think the fans do so. In the long term. I don't think it's gonna have a big effect. I was one of those guys I used to love him to death. I think he's the absolute worst right now for the tour. You don't you don't clean your clean, get a clean shot in a bunker by moving to sand, not once on the shot. But twice on the shot. Michael be the final arbiter of this Does he deserve the reputation of bending the rules? Absolutely does if you if you bend them and you get caught. You deserve everything you get without a doubt. And I don't think the fans think he's Captain America anymore. Not a job. And you know, you go all over the world. Now he goes all over the world and he is getting cheated. Cheated. I mean, they are all over, but I think he thrives on that. You know, when he got accused of it in college, he just looked at those guys and said I'm better than all you anyway, So I don't care what you think. So he's got a history here. Fruits. It's not just This one time, even this one time. I think it was an issue and you brought it up, though it the first thing That was your first comment, you said Don't think of its patch agreed that we don't think this is a problem. Which tells me that you know that there's a problem with Patrick Reid. Well, I don't know There's a problem. But there certainly has been enough talk about it to make an issue out of it. I think that we should do to him. What the The current social penalty is for, Anyway. Cancel cancel. Cancel his Twitter account. Take a lot of Twitter right now. You forget about that unless you get out there on the trail. Oh, yeah, And the funny thing is When I hiking the winner. What I like about it is First what you see a lot of critters that are well hidden by the branches. I mean, you'll see more dear you'll, you'll be walking and because the air Force I think it's because it's colder and crisper. It sounds like those ducks. You could hear them, You know, make that first little black. And I would see you know, so you could see the ducks. "Forced this morning. So far, so good on the expressway. Lots more folks out there, but just building volume Alice we're seeing from Braintree. Into Boston, where you will watch for any, of course, slippery conditions is any snow left over on secondary and tertiary roads. Treasure I have learned is, thirdly roads and it might be very, very dicey and icy out there with the very low temperatures to watch out for that, Lori granted that Levi's is traffic on the three All right there, Laurie Now a look at the whether we've got the WBC four day AC You weather forecast as we go live to Deputy B z ack you weather Meteorologist in DeVore. Instead of those math terms. I usually just say, neighborhood or neighborhood, their community roads, but I like the I like what Laurie's doing there. Look, the big story on action news right now. Is this cold? I mean, this is really bitter. And then we've also got some snow showers because of it to re emerge after they've moved off the coast here this morning. It looks like they're gonna rotate back in all the way from down the coast. So even I think North Shore City and then especially the South Shore, Cayman Islands could get hit the Cape. Some parts of the cave. Jim could get around four inches of snow when it's all said and done by these snow showers with this Arctic front moving through temperatures today and they're going to be frigid feeling with the high today. In the teens to near 20 real fields below zero Really through the day with down into the single digits tonight. Real Field still below zero about 21 tomorrow single digits in teens real fields with a cold, gusty wind. Mid twenties with some sunshine. A bit of a breeze been on his harsh on Sunday Monday. We've got snow in the forecast into Tuesday, and if this storm comes together, it could be significant, especially in some of the inland areas. We have to deal with some wintry mix along the coast. We'll talk about that as we go through the morning on WBZ Boston's news radio. All right, thank you. They're teen. It's now 5 26. And we're at 12 degrees in Boston, mostly clear skies, but again feeling a lot colder out there. As we take a check on New England business cuts coming to mass port some deep cuts, the agency is staring down a $400 million budget chasm and part of the plan to get there is to eliminate.

"51283605 90. Welcome back, everybody. Let's go to the phone. This is who we're looking at here. This is Marilyn. Good morning, Maryland. What can I help you with? I have several questions on. I know you have the answers. Um, I'm going to be planting lettuce leaf lettuce. And, um I'm view salad bowl before But could you give me two or three recommendations for least lettuce? No, actually, I can't because I have done everything from simply take the year old feed off of the shelf. To getting a package that has a complete mix in it that I just plan I don't know of a bad letters. So I don't have a particular favorite. But all of them have done well for me. I do have one I like only because there's a very cool name of it. And it's called for relish Lose. Excuse me for slaughtering my German. But it basically means like the back of a speckled trout. And that's what this Romain type lettuce looks like. Other than that, I don't know of a bad 10. I know they're really have a recommendation of one that was probably extra, um bound of full or you could put a toe also leaves better than the others. But I'll just go ahead and explore that then and then around my some of my trees, my oak trees. I have them in case in a metal Um, breaking around it and I put um, company Well, I've put compost and then, um, you know, um three or four inches. Of shredded mulch, and then in some of them, there are all these tiny little Wayne's. They only grow up about two inches, and I guess they're from the birds. I don't know, but how best to get rid of that to pull them by hand. They're just tiny. And should I wait until the ground dries out, and I just use a ho or and just try to slide him off or do I have to pull them all off? Okay, I'm I have Have a couple of hose One is a diamond head ho and I have a stirrup. Oh, the one that way goes back and forth. Sometimes they call him hula hose. Both of those should work pretty well in the area you're describing, Um, you don't have to go very deep, and you don't have to go very aggressive. No, Especially because these air starting come up in mostly your mulch. They probably are very close to the tree roots. And I don't think you have to worry about, um, accidentally damaging the tree in any way. But either one of those hose should work really well of being able to clean up the area and don't forget. You could probably use one of the spray organic weed killers. That sprayed on the leaves shouldn't transfer to the roots of the tree. What's the name of that? I didn't know We have that available. Oh, there's lots of them. You can use the vinegar spray the big vinegar and orange oil that you know, I know that one Well and that's what you can use. You want to do it on a day that's going to be dry. And you'd like to do it early in the morning so that it has the longest period time to absorb this to make sure burns off those little leaves. If they're these little tiny leaves. I'm betting they are from things like the birds, depositing seeds or seeds that have been blown in. And they're not shoots from your oak tree. Whether you use the ho or you use the spray, both of those should be safe processes. To be able to get away with not harming the tree. I'm gonna use the vinegar orange of spray because of in another area of my yard. We had poison ivy and I did what you said, and it really worked. Um do you have time for another call When you're talking about garden named in yesterday? You said something about a fork, Tonto to work in your garden and I forgot the name of that I didn't write it down. Oh, yes, ma'am. This is an old tool. It's probably been around three or 400 years, maybe longer, and it's called a broad fork. It's a two handled tools and valley oak. Tools. If you look them up, they have a video that demonstrates how to use it. You can probably find lots of them on the Web, but it gives you a good understanding of how it does a fine job. Fracturing the soil without turning the soil over without moving all that soil biology around Broad fork is not cheap. Good one will be a couple $100 in a hurry. But a good one will be passed along for generations the way they build them anymore. The last forever But abroad Fork if you watch how they are used You can do the same thing with your single garden fork. You can understand what they're trying to do, and you can do with a small garden fork it just his playing take a lot more time to do a big area. And if you had a broad for that's maybe 36 inches wide, lets you really tear into the ground quickly. But valuable tools makes a good broad for one of many companies. They got a really good user video going on that shows you what it does and how it works. You can probably find lots of them on the Internet. Broad forks. Air. Good tools if you have enough garden space to make it worth the investment. They really do a good job but of managing your soil..

Um Broad fork Marilyn Maryland Romain Wayne
