But i've never really thought about that before and calorie counter kind of important right. You don't wanna totally splooge. Unless that's your goal we'll get to that later So let's see if one restaurant providing all their calorie content Can we can figure out what our meals would be from that place. If that's all we ate from in a day we only eat one meal. Can we eat three meals. Has it changed between a man and a woman. You know Whether the recommendations for both we have no idea. So that's what we're gonna do and then from there less ball out of control. Let's see if we can get to the ultimate the ultimate calorie number. The holiest of all numbers in mathematics. Sixty nine thousand four hundred and twenty so that is what we're going to try and do and then of course once we get to that magical calorie number may not be possible. We'll try and get as close to a bullseye as we can. Even for the daily calorie counts. We'll see how much it costs. What's our what's our total. A bucket ruse that were going to be spent. So that is the journey. Are you ready to take that. Right are let's see here. Let's get to google gets google and Let's get this party. Let's get this party. Started all right. So let's see here We get to rubies all right. Let's we'll make my tabs situated. Ruby's diner to place. I've known for a long time. I remember going there anytime. I would go to the mall with like my dad. My brother the got great burgers and fries very life. Fifties ask right. Apparently headquartered in irvine didn't even know that and it was found in newport beach. Jetty callie thing no clue it's pretty cool. So dying they have a citadel. It's pretty intense anyway. Ruby's diner Exciting website offering great food porn. Letting us know how to find a location immediately. Pick up or delivery. That's always important in these times. Were just if you're in lazy in general and Ooh there really is a real ruby. Who knew right. Did you know that the founder doug having all decided the name the restaurant after his mother ruby will now. I didn't know 'cause. I read that you and yeah you tell voice in my head get them sick that boy on somebody else but me i love i love it and like i'm so happy that he's like doing something different because like it was getting kind of old how he would just like her ass yo times like what is the point of that. It was pretty. It was pretty glad that he's a hype about ruby's diner anyway. Kids eat for free. That's trying to keep it to eight hundred for a lady meal thousand for remand meal. Okay so ladies. Fear will if you're willing to like push the envelope you're like fifty five over. I'm not worried about that. It looks like this. Classic rubies burger with cheese. Might be right up your alley. It still simple and delicious after all these years years years years years years of ruby classics still delicious and simple. But what makes it so simple. It's topped with two slices of american cheese crisp lettuce tomato and rid sol's and capitalized like it's an out so this constable it also sounds delicious all right so let's get back on. Classic ruby burger with cheese. Eighty five all right so classic ruby burger with cheese Just realized how did not give myself enough space to write stuff do. Let's add a column okay. Cool and okay. We're good on the screen share right. So i- anyone watching is like what are you doing. Do you on did what you wanted. That's correct all right. It's an eight fifty five. That's a good number. It's a good number. I like that perfect way to start the day for breakfast right. Actually the men here. They can add a little something extra to their situation for breakfast. We'll see if we got it. Some side items we can put here. Oh perfect you can get a bacon egg breakfast for a box. Sixty two i love. It doesn't cost a dollar sixty two. We're weight watchers your man. We're trying to count our calories. So what is it called bacon egg breakfast. Bacon and egg. Breakfast is one sixty two. I believe let's go back. Yes okay so are running. Total some do is actually it should be. Let's get this plus this. This equals this perfect. Okay so thousand. That's too bad that's not too bad. And then we want to do the same formula over here so the ladies Get something going to write that. There has okay so ladies are done. They're fifty five. Can we do better for the girls here. Can we get closer to that. Eight hundred mark. Well what's under eight hundred. Oh we have a to a breakfast with bacon only five hundred and seven love it. Let's go there because now now you're getting two things you can to eggs instead of one burger. That's definitely better twice to is always bigger than one. You know so to egg breakfast versus one burger that that's a miracle that it's only five hundred seven calories. How is that possible when you get to things instead of one. That's that magic assigns. You know what i mean. I'm not a scientist boy. I mean it's it's incredible. That's august breath. Est and you bake in two and it's still only this many calories an amazing feat. I think men. They're a bit greedier when it comes to breakfast ladies. I think they're going to. I'm going to say this is. This might not be true per gender but let's build the female menu where we're going to have nice dinner okay. We're gonna ball after dinner. Actually we're we're gonna ball out for lunch. The man none. And i will out for dinner for women and men. They're going to pull out for for breakfast. Actually so actually you know what i think. I think what would really make this breakfast. Complete some chicken tenders for our men here all right. So let's get some chicken tenders added to this breakfast. That is thirteen. Thirty four and the calorie department shouldn't be an issue right. Okay perfect so now. We're at two thousand three hundred fifty one calories for man if you are a man that wants to fast but being but boom you already. You said the breath one time at ruby's just order three entrees and you're ready to go pretty simple very standard. Most people do it. So that's a classic man breakfast way to start your day at ruby's diner one ch Let's see here man man launch. What's man lunch. I think the man or actually just gonna you know they're gonna try and They're gonna try and keep cool with a simple salad simple salad hundred cow saving some cows for for dinner. You know what i mean. I like this move simple salad okay. Then we're going to do this maneuver. We did it. And it's gonna freak out a new that change that formula area twenty four fifty one. That's pretty good. We got like five fifteen left for dinner for the men. And that's important that's important. We'll talk about that later on. Why men are going to eat less calories at night. Okay now women here for lunch. Okay i think. I think a good move and let me know your something better in the chat. I'm just i'm just scanning right. I think we're going to go with all american sandwiches. Yes right they got exclamation points here. It's very exciting menu We're gonna want to stay away from the big plates because they are too big of these calorie content. Fifteen forty three fifteen sixty eight. That's not that's not what we're about here. Well look at this life hack. Oh my gosh. Oh we had to edit the man situation the appetizer chicken tenders thirteen thirty four calories but the chicken tender dinner is only twelve five. Let's let's let's let's. Let's added that for the men chicken tender dinner right now. We're at twelve or five pogs us. We saved ourselves a hundred calories but a full dinner instead of an appetizer with our two other main courses for breakfast. I mean that's a that's a quality move right there i mean. That's what the pros do you know. These are the types of angles. You need to figure out when you're trying to be a row calorie consumer. Okay now. let's let's round it off for the gentlemen. Okay where two three to all right. So what does that put us at. What does that put us at. Where current situation current situation is Let's add another thing here. One above. Okay so this is gonna be equal this minus this current situation. We got six seventy eight to play with six seventy eight. We got anything shot. Let me know if you see it. Do we have anything else in the six. Seventy eight range. How close can we get to the perfect calorie max Few things that are a little too over. You know this. This fresh roast turkey breast would be nice. But we're gonna we're gonna. We're gonna not even win our own showcase if we if we pick that i'm thinking we're going to have to items for dinner here that's my. That's my hunch. I think i think the play is gonna be. This is the move you ready. We're going to get a cobb salad. It's five forty cobb salad for dinner. Salad in salads are good. They got leaves and stuff. It's you know their nature. It's a it's a good thing to add to your body five forty. We have five fifty. It's illegal okay. So this is going to be equal to this plus this and then we want this to change to this that work correctly. No go like this okay. One thirty eight left. I think we can do. I think we can hit three k. 'cause i think there's like a one thirty eight item on here okay. let's look. Let's look what's look and we could have gotten just the added chicken from the one salad right. Knock at the south but just wanna add. Chicken Man see here all right. I think we're gonna run it back. Simple salad one. More time to squat this triple salads situation. Simple salad hundred. This is not bad. This is not bad. Okay equals this plus this. Boom boom pago. Uh-huh dude so close thirty eight calories off from the maximum that's how you in bow showcases. That's how you eat all your food plus your partners food. 'cause you get both things that's how it works in real life when you're close the right answer you can steal whatever your opponent was about to have what prices raise taught us for decades. Okay now back to the ladies revival. Because they're going to ball out there now. They're still going to do simple lunch right. You gotta take care of yourself. You know you don't you don't wanna you don't want things processing to difficultly in the afternoon. I think you know something that screams businesswoman right like you got power suit. You got great shoulders on your blazer. Okay you make mooks at the office. Okay people respect you all right and they respect you for your business acumen but they also look at you as a fierce example of the human form your beautiful and you stay beautiful because every day for lunch you have a rubies original malted waffle combo. Okay it's only a hundred sixty calories. It's a it's a combo for a reason. You wanna hit the combo. Every time that's how you knock it out of the park and you defeat your okay. Rubies original waffle combo. Now this is eight sixty. That's a great situation great situation. I love it We have this equaling this plus five zero seven thirteen sixty seven. Love it half our calories down to get the spend the other half at dinner. We get to go all out and the reason you want to do this as i'm sure you got some simps- or some cougars treated some stuff. This is the pago. There's move for the women out there you by yourself the to egg breath Bacon you by yourself. The original waffle combo especially when i spell correctly. It's original in this situation here for dinner. Half your calories for the day you got some do with the dong. That's telling him how to act. It's given you free food pogs you. It's the play. Okay so what we do. What did we get for free. It's it's a. It's a tough question. You can mix it up all you like. I think the real pro move would be to try and get to things. Okay now. i don't know how this maths gonna work. Seven twenty four eight seventy eight. Let's write it down. Write it down. Seven twenty four eight seventy eight or the numbers correct. We'll the nath be in our favour. Let's do some. We love adding. That's our favorite thing in comedy is adding its math is is is so hilarious all right plus this. Carry the one okay. It's possible regaining. Nope it's not going to work knocking to work. I for some reason. Thought fifteen hundred calories for dinner would Would would work. But it's not gonna work. We have about eleven hundred to play with. Got a eleven hundred plus. Let's do the math on screen here. So y'all know as well Yeah we got. Ooh only thousand play with. Okay a thousand what we get fourth nice thousand bacon cheeseburger nine twenty three. Not bad okay. That's a good choice women. Love bacon cheeseburgers Let's see here do to do ruby rings. Oh here we go. This is the mu frei here bob. This is the move for the guys. If you're taking your lady out for a date you're paying for dinner. She saved hafer calories for the day to try and juice. You for your loot you play it back on them. Get the ruby rinks. That's got to be one of the cheapest things on the menu in an appetizer. But they're gonna say no if they did their math. That's why you gotta math. This eleven seventy seven is going to put you over if you started your day with a to preface of bacon and launch waffle combo. It's not gonna work okay. So that's just how numbers you know nell together and called. It's not going to happen. I think i think we found the solution. Okay i think the perfect menu for this situation if you're gonna go light breakfast. Light lunch pod out for dinner k. Doesn't you don't have to do this as a woman if this is your strategy. If you're not gonna front-load breakfast if you're going to frontload lunch are not lunch or dinner. Okay this is the move ray. Here found it. Ten twenty-five corned beef hash and eggs. It's a breakfast situation. Ten twenty-five corned beef and hash breakfast breakfast breakfast breaths. It's gonna give you that magic number. I'm telling you right now. i have either fueling. the numbers are gonna be on our fever. Twenty three ninety two. Can you believe it. I don't know if he can put it on screen. So you have to believe it. Boom a calories to play with eight calories to play with them you can look at a desert and then you hit your twenty four hundred or good to go. You did it okay. Now that is the puck move. Okay that is the park. Move right there now. Why is it better to go late. Light on dinner. Okay if anything. I think the ladies to flip the script here start with the corn beef hash for breakfast. Okay this is true breakfast tabs over. That's no way no. I'm gonna mix it up. Okay here you go. Let's let's move this here. move this here. Delete this move this here then. Copy this down boom okay. Same totals different order. Why are we doing it like this. Why we the big breakfast and keeping it light for the rest of the day goods one. You're going to want fuel. You're going to want fuel the carry you through the nonsense that is existence right. You gotta drive through traffic. You gotta sit on the metro. You gotta go to that meeting with that co worker. You don't like a guy you want some energy to get through that because you're going to need it now light lunch because us that means more and you still got work to do you want to be too large. Can't keep a chill. You've had a big breakfast now. Here's the important pro. Play light lunch as well. Why keeps you calories so you can win both showcases. The number to leave room to hop guy is wednesday. Is business time you stuff your belly but other things can give stuff. You know what i'm saying so you keep it like that. Okay you say that corn beef hash breakfast for the morning. You just have to eggs. Bacon usa have cops out simple salad so that way you can have each other for dessert. All right that's the way to do it. I think that's the move right there. I think we did it. I i'm just going to be flat out offs with you. I think we solved it. This is your meal plan for every single time. You wake up in the morning. Just go to ruby's diner and order this stuff. If you're trying to be in the twenty four hundred range calories this is your move. You're trying to be three thousand range being this blue category. Now i labeled it men and women because that's what google said. His recommendation obviously depends on your activity. Level obviously depends on a lot of things you know you could be lady but want. Were need three thousand calories based on who you are and what you're doing so go for the left hand column. It's all good. Just putting those labels. Because of a google told me to do so there you have it now. Here is the real question. Okay we got as close to our calorie content as we could with rubies menu. But that's boring. That's adulting rank. It's like we're gonna do this. Probably sunday through friday but saturday. It's time to play saturday. We wanna party up vow. We partnering up saturday. I mean i am like. I don't know if i'm gonna hang out you. I actually got invited to like this. Vip party thing. That is going to be a malibu that like you're definitely not going to be there. How do you know. I'm not going to be there. Invite to yeah ok. Sure i'll see you there then. Bryan steve steve's a robot you trying to party this saturday being. Steve is always updating dude. Always updating me voice my head. You're going to be there little purpose or okay. That was way too scary for comedy. Show anyway backup singers. You can back me up this saturday you know. Be careful you because we light to be together a snap it off backup singers killing the game with their horrible. I want to let everyone in this canyon know about their harmony. Anyway we gotta. We gotta partied up on saturday. We can't just follow our normal meal plan. that's boring. We get one life lesser reincarnation but anyway that's a different life. You got this life rain now. Okay so if it's a special occasion for example. This episode of the podcast celebrates five years of this podcast. We're gonna party it up party it up. We're gonna try and order stuff from ruby's diner that'll get us. To the holiest of numbers ever okay. We want to get ourselves enough food. So we can eat sixty nine thousand four hundred twenty calories. That's the move. That's the move right there. We can do it. Will we consume it all in one sitting probably not but we can try being believe in ourselves we can. We can go to the moon. Okay so now. We need new spreadsheet for new chart. I think our move is to just. I think it would behoove us. Excuse me to get every single burger on the menu. Okay actually let's do this. Let's get literally everything all right. So i'm gonna pull that out of the tab here and i'm just gonna start writing all this stuff down okay. So we got big plates. We got one more big plate. Let's let's get that situated. We got a big plate here. What's in this big plate. All right we at chicken tenders dinner. That's twelve o five role. Get one of those for now Do to fix that. Stupid thing burgers. We got classic ruby burger with cheese. We got the guacamole. We gotta we gotta get some guac on the situation. Right ruby melt. You know that's going to help us with the calorie count mushroom swiss burger. I mean are you. An american restaurant serves burgers. If you don't have that on your menu seems unlikely. Because they all have. And i'm just speed running this menu into our chart here. There's a cobb burger. I wrote kube burger. I don't know what that means but we'll fix all right. Let's speed run these calorie contents. Here we got eight fifty five nine. That's a scary one. Seven fifty three nine forty nine nine. Twelve forty two nine twenty three and eleven fifty two. How many calories are in the guacamole border. I mean you just can't forget you'll never forget all right. Is there other burgers. Yes impossible burger labrador options from. Ruby's them for that. And it's nice that they haven't impossible rigor little being action there with the meat substitute all right. So let's get one for all of them all right. Let's keep cooking here. let's keep cooking. What else is on this menu. Let's do some appetizers and sides. We got really rings we got frings report crispy. Green beans man. I love me some crispy. Green beans the best part is has got a crunch right. It's still fried. So it's it's very tasty and it feels like you're doing something kind of healthy you know what i mean. 'cause it's like a vegetable right because mean potatoes. We all know that. That's not really a vegetable. We're not gonna do add ons. You could substitute sweet potato fries. 'cause now i'll tell you the calorie count so i think it's a little. If fudges our numbers a bit there okay. One of all those things okay. not bad. Nineteen thousand calories so far by ordering every single burger every single appetizer and every single big plate water one of all the salads for the fans. You know just to again. Pretend like we're healthy. But we will be limiting ourselves to one of each of these. Because i mean it's just a waste of time. It's so much chewing you know unless we get Let's get scissors and you know. Start cutting up the salads big times that we the leafs aren't so big you know what i mean. Because the best part about using kitchen shears salads. It's kinda like pre chilling. It's going to help out your mouth. 'cause you're going to your jaw. It's going to work out with this meal. Sixty nine thousand. Four hundred twenty calorie meal do is going to be ripped. Dude your draw. It's going to be jacked man. You can go to venice beach and And just kick it. Oh on let's scratch the rubies Apple pecan and blue cheese salad. Because there's a range four the calorie content Which is super sauce. I'm not sure why there's a range you don't have a real answer on what that could be. So let's get rid of that because this is a scientific experiment we wanna make sure. We are as accurate as possible. Okay so five. Forty for the cobb again. The chinese chicken south. That's out to weird name to what's ruby know about chinese chicken salads. Come on twenty twenty one okay. So hundred for the simple sowed at all. Those really didn't affect our total at all as we expected moving onto a new section sandwiches. All right this this is. I think going to be very helpful. We fresh we have not tell you. Being in the right spot we have fresh roast turkey breast react. The de looks b. l. t. actually wrote to l. t. Hey that's right the b. l. t. a. assume the a is for avocado which is pago us. That'll help with the calories. Sure the ruby club and the albacore melt. Nothing makes a melt better than tuna him saying. It's so the artists get one of those. What's our total. We're halfway there. Almost halfway thirty thousand calories of for we can do this okay. We're grownups here. We're not gonna mess with the kids menu okay And wish we could get shakes malts but it's a total range here So we see it. It's gonna ruin the science of our situation and real. Talk with all this chewing. Were probably gonna want Probably gonna want water. You know what i mean. So i think we were older than twelve. They won't let us get the kids menu and this situation is just not gonna work for us so back to the sheet. Okay we can stop it here new items okay So let's see here. Can i get this all in one screen. Almost almost okay. So i think we want breakfast is the most important meal the day. Let's eat that three times every single. Okay so we got ourselves three hockey combos. Three french toast combos three waffle combos three. Abc omelettes three baked obey eggs and bacon three corned beef hash and three garden. Let's do four gardens scrambles to be healthy okay. I think that's a good move for short. The we should get some drinks. Okay let's see. How shall we do the drinks. Sorry i missed the request for drinks earlier. My issue with the drinks. Is this range here. Five seventy nine twenty so can't be really scientific with our situation. You know what i mean. Because it's like the strawberry banana. That's what i would order for myself but we don't know. How many calories is we want to hit the bullseye. We wanna get exactly to that. Primo number six nine thousand four hundred twenty. That's that's our goal. So i think with all the chewing we're about to do may want water so all right. We got our breakfast situated launch. I think we're gonna wanna relax on lunch so it's only get to every sandwich. We had a big breakfast. We may not be that hungry. We definitely want to want one of all the salads. They're boring appetizers are fun. They're fun for everyone let's get. Let's get enough appetizers for all of our extremities. Let's get four of each of them that way. Each foot and hand Has something to do and burgers burgers or what rubies known for. So i think i would love to get to of all the burgers okay. So let's see what happens here. Ooh over were over. We have to. we have to. We have to relax here. So let's see here. Maybe we should have asher we while the classic burger. That's not bad exciting. Guacamole bloggers cool. We don't want twelve of them The super burger. I'll man okay. So let's see let's roll back. Ooh ruby now. Oh how close or fifteen calories over can we get closer can we. What can we do. How can we do better Let's see let's see all right all right we need. We need a magic here. We number magic number magic. Maybe how many we off fifteen. Let's look at numbers. Let's look at numbers. They're our friends right now. They will help us in our goals. i think we get one ruby melt but then we get another guacamole burger so close. It's so we're so. Oh my gosh. We might be able to do it. You might be able to get to the holy holiest number in all of numbers. Sixty nine thousand four hundred twenty. Can we do it. can we do it. Twenty five calories away Twenty five calories away. Let's look at the items on the menu. I found it. I found it. I'm sorry. shrimp and chips. We love you but you're just not gonna do it for us. Let's get double seafood. Combo winked did it. We did it all snack there. Sixty nine thousand four hundred twenty calories grandparent brown brown and all snap. I feel so good. That feels so good boom chaaka so we saw. We saw that we did it. We did it so if you're at home and you're like dang dude you know what i would love the eat. Sixty nine thousand. Four hundred twenty calories here is your cheat on how to do it. It's very simple you go to. Ruby's diner to change. That's like a diner style. This is what you're going to order to seafood. Combos skip the shrimp and chips as the secret. Okay one chicken tenders dinner. One fish ships one classic ruby burger which she's to guacamole burgers to roosevelt's to mushroom swiss burgers to super burgers to hickory burgers to bacon cheeseburgers cobb burgers to impossible burgers. And you're gonna give four of all the apps ruby rings frings crispy green beans four fries baskets and four chicken now. You're going to offer second salads or morning only in one of all those okay but we're back to making it cool with fianc. That's right you're gonna get to fresh roast turkey. Breast dress at the sandwich shameless. But it's trade us to deluxe l. a. Only one ruby club k. That's important one ruby club. get to. You're gonna ruin the whole thing now to albuquerque for melts and breakfast. We're starting the day right to get to the sixty nine thousand four hundred twenty calories. That's right you're going to want. Three buttermilk hotcakes combos of three french. Toast combos free melted wafa combos three. How many items you only have to eat seventy three items on the rubies menu. Not a problem okay. there's twenty four hours in the day at basically eat one of these things every twenty minutes. You can eat every minutes. I mean we're already snacking all the time that much anyway. Probably so there you have it. We did it pogs us. And that's pretty much. These scene will start when. It's obvious that i'm on the phone. Like hey so let's rock and roll. Allow oh god to get a hold of him so happy to connect them really really excited to talk to you about this astronaut position. We have opened a we can talk i. I don't know how limited i am to discuss why we need an astronaut immediately I know you will not be flying in our flagship brockett. That is still out in orbit. You will if you're good. Make it there for sure we. We desperately need someone to do that. Absolutely other details about that on the. Don't ask so what what would make you agree. The Best Fast Food Fries
"Welcome to the PODCAST. I'm John Hammond and this is Megan Murphy everybody in Meghan to you know what July thirteenth enlighten me John. I'm not sure it's national Friday. Get it Friday. That's right. It's not just Friday the thirteenth. It's it's national. FRY is in French fry day. I love it. There is a holiday forever you right I mean is there anything more addictive or satisfying than French fries. I do like a good French. I do you have a favorite fry. Not necessarily I wouldn't call one out over the other by like them really crispy. I like them perfectly salted and every once in a while you know make fun of me or not. I like sweet potato fry. I'm not going to be funny I am. I'm a big fan of sweet potato. I get them anytime I can. It's it's one of the things that that that these e R founder and C._E._o.. Of course mocks me and we're out here price. He's like who could sweet potato for some what people do because whether on the menu totally sweet potato fry. He's probably never even tried did he probably beating handfuls of your favorite like Goto don't have I don't have a Go-to oh to like fast food. Fry it well. I don't have a Go-to but the one that just cripples me every time our five guys fries five guys prize as soon as I go and you're standing there smelling them and I get the bag in the bag is sopping up the grease. That's right away. I never make the right home without eating handful which is good because they just pour them like right in the bag so there's plenty when I get home. Nobody realizes that you know half the bag is gone but probably one of the most amazing French fry experiences <music> I've ever had natalie and I were on our way. We were in San Francisco and we went out to <hes> across the bridge into like Sonoma county went to Healdsburg and Healdsburg bar and grill and we had the Parmigiana truffle fry comes out in like a little bucket like a little metal bucket and we're like I feel like this is something we should order. It was one of the things where you immediately wanted to order a second bucket. Even though there are only two of us it was just like so savory every and delicious and indulgent and nothing that you would do regularly of course but I mean to this damning that was probably ten years ago and I'm still fries so I mean that's that's. That's probably that's a hi bar that is but fries. You know I don't care I like actually just prefer like last night. I just like carved up sweet potatoes and just Rosen and the grill and we had those with dinner or not in the groups are in the oven for like forty minutes or so the four twenty five and they caramelized and put a little salt and pepper on them to me. That's that's my idea of like fry like thick skin on like soft on the inside little crunchy on the outside. That's a good that's a good fry and just make it home in like forty minutes. Have you ever had disco go fries. Yeah I grew up in Jersey what to call diner girl exactly it's like some people call it teen if they're fancy Canadian but disco fries with gravy and cheese probably after a long night I mean that's kind of childhood for me at the diner. Defended the fact of the matter is there are so many options when it comes to fries you know there's the good old fashioned French fry like Dave's Dave standby right. There's curly. There's crinkle cut their sweet potato. There's a shoe string. There's waffle fries is there is <hes> Putin Chili fries dipping fries in mayonnaise or whatever your topping of choice might be so it doesn't it doesn't matter like fries. Are I guess that's why there's a national Friday like. Why wouldn't there be a national Friday exactly early? Americans love their fries. That's no surprise and here's a fun fact. The average American eats thirty pounds of French fries every year. I mean that that sounds grows when you say it but it is not surprising sitting no a year okay yeah so it's still it's still ends up actually believe it or not one third of vegetables consumed by Americans every year our potatoes right one third. It has taking all Schmidt eating vegetables. Officials will one third of the vegetables that we as Americans are potatoes and and it's it's not you know like it's seventy percent of the potatoes that actually are consumed in the U._S.. are frozen or processed right so it's fries or chips and according to the U._S._D._A.. Eh More than half of all potato sales go to processors of French fries chips dehydrated potatoes and other potato products so that's you know that's not the kind of potatoes you should be eating or the kind of vegetables that you should be ingesting. Those are the highly processed time but it's match. It's national Friday. So what are you GonNa do yeah. We're going to indulge once in a while. It's one of America's favorite you know Comfort Foods <hes> indulgence so if you're out on July thirteenth why not grab yourself some French fries so in honor of the fun food holiday. We're going to share with you today. The eat this not that team has their picks for the best fast food fries and stay tuned to the end of this episode because we're also going to share with you how you can make fries at home that may even be better than your go to favorites out and it's not just my lame sliced up sweet potato legit like regular French fries so in now before we get to our favorites there was actually a process of the team used to create these so you don't think they were just like picking their favorites because of how they tasted or anything they looked at nutrition they check the ingredients to make sure that they're mostly cleaning gradients for the most part not too many foreign additives or things that you can't pronounce certainly appearance inconsistency were factors and of course tastes was a big factor as well but so they rank them according to those criteria and I gotta say we're GonNa go through the top five here and it's surprising it's not so much. I guess what's on the list but it's not I think some are going to be very surprised when they the waiting and listening for their favorite and then it doesn't it doesn't hit and they're going to be like what the what's going on here but we weren't involved in this process. It does seem like taste these fries but I didn't in judge in in in this effort some I actually haven't had so anyway. Let's dive right into the top five fries so number five is the Chick-fil-a waffle potato fries so yes solid I mean people I feel like they're. They're a waffle person or they're not I mean these are everything you expect from a Frie- but they have that fun waffly shape in that good texture and these fries were our number five pick because they aren't overly seasoned and they hold up well to light dips like catch up but. It also the heavier depths like Mayo and ranch if you're into that sort of once in a while and medium size orders going to set you back three hundred sixty calories eighteen grams of fat and not too much sodium which a lot of fries have high sodium this only two hundred and eighty milligrams of sodium forty through grams of carbs so not bad. That's the number five pick. Do you have a dip of choice. What do you believe dipper fries? I'm usually catch up girl or sometimes I like vinegar on my fries vinegar. Oh Yeah that's nice. I mean every I love Ditz so sometimes I'm in honey muster motor barbecue but I'm usually destroyed. I saw so I I actually like spicy mustard. <hes> oh yeah I like spicy mustard on a lot of things so number four Wendy's fries which is surprising. I think you know when I think Wendy's I don't. I don't think a fries it doesn't come top of mind but you know here we go. I mean this was interesting because if you're on the prowl for like that classic French fry the Wendy's might be the best bet according to the team because although they could do without some of the inconsistent assistant textures it was just a really solid fry that delivered on all fronts and a medium size fries four hundred twenty calories nineteen grams of fat three and a half of those saturated the sodium cranks up a little bit compared to to Chick-fil-a it's four hundred twenty milligrams of sodium on this one so little little saltier but when it comes to fries you're exactly that's what you're craving when you when you create fries all right stick it quick break from our Fri- picks to talk about something that goes real good with salty fries and that's iced tea but just like these fries don't forget that a small decision can have a big impact and when it comes to decision that you make for your ice tea you WanNa go with honesty not because honesty has been on a mission for more than two decades now to create and promote great tasting healthy organic beverages through through their new campaign. They're shining a spotlight on the work. That's being done to democratize organics and support fair trade certified suppliers not only are you getting a great tasting refreshing delicious ice tea but as actually doing some good in your supporting a company that believes in supporting the people that help deliver that delicious tea and for every every fair trade certified honest products sold helps support a community development fund that supports the farmers that decide together how to spend their funds to improve their lives so all of the folks that are coming together to help supply the great teas that go into these honesty's as they're taking value from your purchase honesty from joint fund that allows them to further better their businesses and their lives as well and the premiums fun things like bikes clean water schools healthcare vital farming equipment the small choice of what you drink again not a small choice it can have a big impact so when it comes to choosing an ice t go with honesty is honesty dot com slash podcast to learn more about honest and how your small decision can make a big impact and now when it comes to starting your day right you know that by now of course I always start my day with a solid breakfast of oatmeal but before I even get to my breakfast now I've actually started with Athletic Greens and why because I like like to get up and have a glass of water but if I can make that water even better even more special than why not do that and that's exactly what Athletic Greens does for me because it's one of the most complete superfood functional green beverages on the market. It contains seventy five essential. uh-huh vitamins and minerals and here's the kicker there from whole foods sourced ingredients and most green products only include the green superfoods and one other element like Greens or a multivitamin or Greens or probiotics athletic Greens includes them all essential vitamins and minerals roles dairy free probiotics prebiotics nutrient dense raw superfoods adapted Jin's herbs extracts digestive enzymes and much much more and it's delicious. Let's get back to some fries the number three on our list and this one. I haven't had personally it's dairy queen fries all day. I don't want to get dairy queen fries. It's not what I worked at Dairy Queen when I was sixteen and it was the yeah well they didn't have my dairy queen tiny stand in town with a drive through and some picnic tables we the hotdogs but we didn't have the fries. I feel like I missed out I know but the team reported did these to be perfectly salted and thick enough to hold up to dips and they're pretty darn good so regular size portions only two hundred ninety calories thirteen grams of fat five ninety milligrams sodium thirty nine carbs so so not that badly rationales but you you know again. I haven't had them personally. I am missing out where I grew up. We have dairy queen that was like the full sit down kind of order to get food and you could sit down. There's Burgers and fries and all those kinds of things and it was a long time ago. I don't really remember the fries. I only remember the Ice Creams of course but I've had them yeah but it just again. It's just not top of mind number two this one. I really like seeing here because if not five guys this is where I'm going it's shake shack fries and shake shack. It shook up our our expectations if you will with off get crunchy tators and they're the crinkle cut fries which which I like and look and love or hate it right some people that might throw thirty for a loop you don't like the crinkle cut fries you want your Friday b street and and and and skin on or all this guy but look don't hate on the crank Dunkin hit on the table I mean teach their own and but the fresh flavor will just put all your suspicions aside like you'll you'll be on the crinkle cut bandwagon after these end regular size. Fries with four hundred twenty calories nineteen grams of fat four hundred ninety grams of milligrams of sodium and that's not too bad again. This falls in line with with everything else. That's that's in the top five here. I like everything shake shack. I'm like shake shack girl. We went to a mets game at Citi field our first because we're not mets fans were red sox fans but the boys are just obsessed with baseball and there was a we got there and I saw there was a giant shake shack and we're like Oh my God. This is so perfect yeah. It's fantastic all right in the number one pick this surprise me as well. It's another fun shrew his on the edge of their nick but here comes the shock. It's a shock and this is not a fry that I typically go for but it's Arby's curly fries. I know that's a shocking number one but the team deemed with these ones that will keep coming back for although there nutritionals make them the ultimate cheat male. Maybe they taste delicious because it's going to be five hundred fifty calories twenty nine grams of fat. That's pretty whopping more than twelve twelve hundred milligrams of sodium sixty five grams of carbs so definitely not the healthiest pick but maybe that's why the team you know if you're going to indulge in Friday on the thirteenth. Maybe just you know they're perfectly season. They taste great for once in a while. Maybe try Arby's curly fries again. Look this is another place I don't really think of and think of fries or anything related where the we've got the meats like all that we have the curly fries and they're and they're and they're delicious dishes because check this out so I will. I will check out arbitrage. I'll get I'll give them a chance and again like you said like every now and then my fries every day so you don't worry about the calories and the sodium on this one on this one meal that you're GonNa have every now now and then like if if you are eating fries everyday then you dial that back and he's thinking about this into our podcast more than pleased so looking all you who are listening right now. You're probably wondering where the heck are McDonald's famous fries people through the top five live and everyone kept thinking okay. The next one is going to be the next one is going to be McDonalds. The McDonalds fries landed on the rankings. They were just outside the top five at number six also five guys as I mentioned one of my per. One of my personal favorites came in at number eight a great so look if you want to forgo the fast food fried damage obviously as a less sodium when you're talking about twelve hundred and fifty milligrams and fire up a batch of deliciously addictive spuds at home our very own Dave's Zenko who mocked me for my sweet potato fries and in his mouth that CO author Matt Goulding. Have you covered with their rosemary. Parmesan fries sound pretty good these sound fantastic all the ingredients that I love okay so here's what you'll need. We're going to go through the recipe for you to medium Russet. I sit potatoes two tablespoons of canola oil salt to taste and maybe pepper if that's if that's your thing to to close of garlic very finely minced. I'd probably add more just because I'm gonNA garlic junkie but at least two first familiar one teaspoon fresh rosemary leaves degree by the way to beautiful out great and a quarter cup graded parmesan cheese so now it's time to fire them up preheat the oven to four twenty five degrees Fahrenheit Peel your potatoes and cut them into quarter inch fries. That's about twice. The thickness of McDonald's fries a little thicker soak the potatoes in warm water for at least fifteen minutes before cooking them then drain them and. Pat them dry very thoroughly. Make sure they're nice and dry combine the fries and the oil in a mixing bowl and toss them until they're evenly coated and then you're gonNA season them thoroughly with salt. We want good salt on these fries but we're also having Parmesan cheese so you don't have to go overboard you could it always add more later versus over-salting and then you're going to spread the fries out on a large baking sheet being careful that they don't overlap have a nice even layer. It's so important people so important to cook with soggy FRY crispy. It's I gotTA spread. 'em Out to us to sheets. If you have to absolutely and then you're going to make them for thirty minutes until the fries are just tender in lightly Brown on the outside and then you're going to take them out sprinkle them with the garlic Rosemary Mary and Parmesan cheese all those Yemi flavors return it to the oven for another ten minutes until the cheese is melting in the garlicky is lightly Brown and your house is GonNa Smell Amazing and then we john and I want to be invited over to enjoy these with view but these fries are only you know this recipe serves for people hundred ninety calories eight grams of fat and only two hundred forty milligrams of sodium so that is not bad at all for aside or a snack. I mean that's the thing that's the difference between in eating out and making something at home right I talked about making my own sweet potato wedges and fries I guess but again it's just a little salt and pepper a little bit of oil to to get them in the oven so they crisp up and caramelized nice and there's there's not a lot of damage there but if you look at some of these these fast food fries and the ones that were not that were outside the top five by the way like McDonald's and and all the others there were there were far more ranked here. We just went through the top five. You realize like how much damage can be done. Why feel kind of crummy afterwards totally I mean they? They're good going down but like an hour later like God Tom's so maybe try the homemade on July thirteenth. If you don't WanNa go out for some national Friday you know if you're not going to go out and get your own favorite fast food fries than try these these fries right here and let us know what you think. It was pretty tasty so there you have it now. You are fully prepared to celebrate national Friday and look if it's not July thirteenth li-listening to this words or it's GonNa past who cares you could celebrate your own national Friday or or or make these delicious Rosemary Parmesan fries. Just you know be aware of the choices that you're making and be aware that they're they're good choices. Okay choices not so good choices but at the end of the day don't beat yourself up over it if you're just having prize every now and then enjoy darn fry whatever fried whether they're currently sweet potato whatever you're dipping them in whether they're super salty or not salty war crinkle cut fries. Don't give up on the crinkle cut fries shake shack and try those shakes. Whatever you WanNa do you WANNA do? There hello, the Internet, and welcome to this edition. Site water rafting trip I think we may have done that and let's do it to chapter forty, two the Zionis of the whale from Moby Dick brought to you by at Johnny Davis Johnny Knife whatever all those numbers are shot up to you for that Trend Inspired Aka here with Lacey Moseley. Hello. How are you? Dear, Lacey. So, good to hear you so good to see you over zoom Let's get into some of these trends have them I don't know what the Fuck Damian but the first one I do Anderson Cooper's trending because he had the my pillow guy on his show last night and. It, was a disaster for the mypillow. Farce he was out here preaching some Miracle Cure that had never been FDA approved, and he's like trying to Anderson Cooper it works in Anderson is as looking at him like. Sir. You have no medical experience You just sell pillows. Wha. What makes you different than a snake oil salesman and he's like You don't understand avenue under the whole thing is because this guy like Anderson just read him? He's like the deal is this man who made up this fake drug went to you because you know the president and if he can get you and the president onboard with my drug, I can make a lot of money and also I will give you position on the board of this company. Because once it does begin selling, you will reap the profits. Right and he's also giving me very much papa John's sweaty energy. You, can you know like when people wear the cross very visibly and like almost becomes meaningless like some people you know like he's wearing that to almost be like this should be a shield from criticism because I'm a good Christian man. I don't. That's just it feels like a prop for your identity image kit of where it's located two he's got it out. He's pulled it outside of his pink button down and he's wearing this blue blazer and it's like it's not even hanging right? Like he needed more length on the rope. Wears it often because it ain't even like should. Net that shirt and give us some chess me in the car you want that. We'll see what happens. We'll see what happens. Next R.I.P EMINEM. Why why is that trending I? Just know eminem is not. Not. died. Marshall mathers is not died. So this is something else unless he probably did some other you know like problematic should. Not sure but it's under hip hop. Do we know anything now So it's a lot of people just saying r.i.p eminem right now and nobody's really saying what actually happened. It's a lot of people responding to it. Yeah. So it's just a thing where 'cause I, feel like if you really fucking around, that's what you do like if you know. Let's say that we actually have a a army of fake accounts that you and I used as sort of sway public opinion and caused twitter trash, which we don't if we did and we do pay a sizable amount of money to a group in the Caribbean to do. So you know it seems like a thing where people get together all the. Time just say r.i.p this celebrity get going and then it it was like was this thing trending and for no rattle this feels like k POPs doing from everything that I'm scrolling. It looks like this is k. Pop Cape doing this and a lot of people are all being Shady San like like showing pictures of Ellen Degeneres and be like you'll RPM. Those are happening to you but. This is all fully K pop runs twitter times I love it because they really know how to get to Donald Trump and then other times we just like, okay pop. Okay. A double edged, but you know what I'll let y'all have it so good luck with that. Yeah. Next Kanye West and Steve Harvey, they were making a big splash. At. Chick fillet what like Steve Harvey? Sarah. Was Connie tweeting a photo of him saying like Steve came to check on me and we got hungry. He tweeted me and Steve Harvey was hungry. And it's a picture them at chick fillet with what seems to be quite a bit of food I'm seeing a nuggets here definitely, twelve count. I'm seeing a grilled chicken sandwich. That's those are healthier than the fried ones about four hundred, twenty calories opera serving. It's pretty. Do. We know that's grilled because it could also be deluxe because they got the lettuce on there. I can't quite see. Your House one does have lettuce on it the grocery you can also get the you can get the spicy deluxe that also has lettuce and tomato. Yeah you're right. You're right it might be 'cause he does have the final nuggets next to you could be he's reaching into the bag for fries and then in the back I see a milkshake, another chick-fil-a bag and a large soda. So it seems as though they're having quite the meal as some people noticed that Steve Harvey's pocket on his left side has a plastic bag. This kind of sticking out people are presuming that that's that loud. He's got that creepy on them like that. Okay. Now let me look at it because it looks it looks like a square. It looks like that old man move he's like because he's already wearing the zip off cargo shorts whereas I we might go water rafting and he's like I better put my like my my good stuff in a ziplock bags doesn't get water it's. Him By these. Cargoes Miles I. Didn't I was the first thing I clocked I was like you have failed Steve Harvey Book that was a long time ago, and also like the look let's is dragon what is going on with that watches a off brand like watch is some rich people shit? I've not heard about 'cause. I don't. Know. These pants are too tight and too loose at the same time. The to on the legs are way too tight around the man Area Zach Fox said he got that meet folded up old paperwork. Yes and other people are saying that Steve Harvey has that wop. Steve. And I don't understand any of it. Yeah. Well, you know two buddies go to have a good time chick-fil-a where they A lot of franchisees owners. It's funny when. I've noticed recently when Fox News stories about Chick-fil-a, they will use this image of this one franchise where they were wearing back the blue shirts like the crew was wearing back the blue shirts and that's usually I've noticed how Fox News begins to depict. Chick-fil-a and you know whether franchises but AAA is problematic. It's big and they have definitely funded a lot of messed up organization. Don't need it. Don't need it. It's hard. It's hard though I'm not gonna lie it's hard but it's not that hard and then finally bhubaneshwar plague is trending. Horse it is because it's twenty fucking twenty and everything is possible this year but they're saying this headline is California just saw its first play case in five years experts explain why you shouldn't panic I okay. So There was just another case in Colorado like a month ago, the plague in an animal so. They say plague they. This experts plague is naturally present in many parts of California, including higher elevation areas of El. Dorado County. And it's just you know. Apparently we don't. We ain't got to deal with it ain't gotTA worry about it. Right. It never disappeared and there's always like a few cases a year and they give you antibiotics. So the plague has been out here I think this. Is just we never gave it a better name like Kobe one thousand, nine hundred sounds like a virus or whatever match. If we call corona virus the play it should've and we can call it and then Mubarak plague we switch that out for covid. Right. Because people don't give don't know what it really is a branding thing. That's a good point I feel like that's what we need you to do like daily dispatching Black Y'all deplete the don't catch the plague. Don't fuck around and find out. But yeah. Don't worry not even though it just very unsettling because everything's. Can. Their moments you think is a joke and it's not. But I'm glad to know that it is not a pressing matter and we can just go back to worrying about creeping while fascism and white supremacy that we can. Yet we can continue to just sweat bullets over that Shit. So good good. I guess all's well that ends well. Lacy thanks for You know come with me on this trend trend tastic journey. Maybe I'll maybe I'll see you tomorrow maybe maybe this Combo going a little bit maybe people have caught on to know. Someone's trending up front attorney absurd. Breakfast Myths and Marketing [S2E10]
"What did you have for breakfast? Today has your idea breakfast changed overtime. Growing up my mom fixed the daily breakfast of eggs. Bacon and grapefruit mom was influenced by the Iowa. Healthy breakfast study which she was told. You needed this healthy breakfast for school. But if you grew up in the south you might have had biscuits and gravy while California. Didn't invent GRANOLA. It is often associated with the California breakfast and coffee. We have coffee and no doubt you heard the saying eat breakfast like a king lunch like a prince and dinner like. Popper Adele Davis. The health who died of cancer said that of course. She said a lot of nutty things. Lots of claims about breakfast lose weight. Jumpstart your metabolism and be less hungry. We will see. The breakfast is more influenced by marketing than science. But there is science today and Brett bisque myths realities marketings hopes and what we know from science. My Name is Dr Gary Simpson. And this is culinary medicine where we sort out the crazy from credible about from its source to its effect on your body busting myths and showing evidence where food and medicine breakfast or breaking of the fast is the first meal one eats after a night. Time of fasting. Assuming you slept but throughout time what one. Each per breakfast has changed. Romans eight mostly bread and leftover also had paint kicks no maple syrup. We would have to wait for the Canadians for that. One early Americans a cold meats rice hominy and usually leftovers from the night before one restaurant menu from nineteen. O One had chicken on the menu for breakfast but the idea of a healthy breakfast came in shortly. After that. If you were wealthy or famous and had problems you would go to one of the health. Spas and the most famous of the day was in Battle Creek Michigan from the eighteen seventies till its decline and the Great Depression. It was this country's version of PALTROW's goop peddling nonsensical cures to the rich and famous. And using that as leverage to peddle cures to America John D. Rockefeller Thomas Edison Henry Ford Presidents Harding and tapped Mary. Todd Lincoln and Amelia earhart. We're all guests at this health. Spa Run by Dr John Harvey Kellogg. Who invented by the way the word sanitarium for his health spa? He had strong views about health influenced by religion. Kellogg was a seventh day. Adventist who believed that the evils of society were meet tobacco alcohol and sex. He never consummated his own merit meet. His religion was evil leading to lustful thoughts to avoid this. He invented an alternative breakfast that contained no me. He said that this would not only solve the problems of indigestion or dispatch as many of his clients complained of but this would be a morning. Anti Master Batori meal and for the record. No one has ever studied that conclusion. His invention which you know as kelloggs cornflakes were made available widely to the public in about Nineteen O. Six Kellogg also had his own health magazine. It was called good health. One of the most. Well read magazines about health during the day bit. Was that days. Version of prevention magazine peddling his own version of health wellness and nonsensical cures in his magazine. He was the first to state. That breakfast was the most important meal of today. Today's cornflakes have a slightly different recipe than the original ones. That Dr Kellogg admitted his brother decided to add sugar to them because they were going to sell these to the masses and breakfast cereal maker Kellogg richer than a sanitarium telephone health advice. Took hold and America went from breakfast. Meats and rice to one of cereals rolls and coffee then came the second wave of marketing. Then Nineteen Thirties. Beech-nut of chewing gum fame. But they were also Bacon. Producers wanted to increase bacon sales so they turned to the PR firm of one. Edward Bernice since breakfasts have become lighter. Do Kellogg's influence one of cereals and coffee in a role they wanted to change that soberness ask the company physician. If a heavier breakfast would be good the doctor agreed and they mailed five thousand positions and ask them if they agreed forty five hundred of them did and the Perm took out advertisements. In the nation's newspapers forty five hundred doctors agree. It said you need a heavy breakfast to start the day make him and what goes best with breakfast bacon eggs. You need a heavy breakfast. The doctor stated to give you energy and boost your metabolism and help you work harder and longer the marketing worked beechnuts bacon sales increased. Then the all American breakfast of Bacon and eggs was born. Bernez is considered the father of American marketing. The original madman of Madison Avenue. Bernice uncle was influential in his thoughts about marketing. His uncle Sigmund Freud to competing ideas about breakfast one based on meat for a good start one based on cereal for another kind of start or lack of start both with plenty of health claims and then those ideas became firmly entrenched in the minds of people to competing thoughts about. What's good for breakfast? So they began to test those hypothesis. Who sponsored the studies turned out? Industry did the cereal industry poultry industry. The Bacon Industry. Does that bother you to be fair? Just because an industry sponsors study does not mean. The study is flawed. But it should raise a level of skepticism. One must be skeptical of a study that draws the conclusions according to the industry that's funds it. The Iowa breakfast study for example. If you WANNA get a copy of the original twenty papers you have to right to the cereal institute and if you read them there was actually not that much difference between the workability of skipped breakfast or not. That's probably not what you heard. The study set is it. What about weight loss? You've probably heard all of those studies at associate people who eat breakfast as having less excess weight than those who skip breakfast. The problem is they are two different groups of people meaning those who regularly breakfast and those who regularly skip breakfast. They're just looking at one factor between people who are skinny and those who are not adding calories if you normally skip breakfast doesn't appear to be a good weight loss strategy instead of looking at breakfast eaters versus non breakfast eaters. What happens if you take some Group of people the same group of people and randomized them to a group of breakfast eaters and then change them to a group of people who skip breakfast. There have been thirteen such studies. And what did they conclude? There is no evidence that eating breakfast helps you lose weight and in fact in some studies people who started to eat breakfast gained weight. What a thought. Eat more calories during the day by taking up breakfast and you don't lose weight though. Studies also didn't look at what is eaten for breakfast. Did you know that yogurt has more sugar than most ICE CREAMS EDEN? So-called Greek yogurt. Maybe you thought Granola was a health food. That's how it's marketed. Granola is properly classified as desert. If you were to eat a bowl of quaker oats and honey and natural granola. You're eating twenty six grams of sugar and four hundred twenty calories so to put it another way. You're eating the same amount of sugar as in five. Oreo cookies and as much as my son Loves Orioles. I wouldn't allow him to have that for breakfast. And if you check in with the American Heart Association the total amount of sugar that a woman should have is twenty four grams a day or thirty two grams for a man starting out the day with all of your sugar. It isn't healthy. Unless you're trying to gain weight than have a sugar deficiency that Bran Muffin. You ordered from the counter of the local. Coffee shop has more calories and fat than a big Mac and then they're the other cereals that are little more than pastry in a bowl of milk. What about jump? Starting Your Metabolism. You wake up and REV UP. Your metabolism does breakfast work to do that. The data is not agreeing with that. Some data about fasting shows no difference in metabolism. Some data show that people who eat breakfast expend more energy riding a bike going to a gym running. But that's those two groups of people. The group of people who ate breakfast tend to be? The group of people who ride bikes are active. That may or may not be you but the latest study in people whether they skipped breakfast or not had no effect on people who were lean. What about people who aren't Lee? What about people who are a little portly software? Or let's say people who have Metabolic Syndrome with insulin resistance. It turns out eating or skipping breakfast at no difference. Do you eat less if you have breakfast on. It turns out that it's kind of to you if you are a breakfast eater. Maybe if you're a not then you end up eating more calories. Beheading the calories breakfast The sciences all over on this one breakfast doesn't boost your metabolism it. You are not hungry. There isn't evidence to say you must or should eat it. The evidence that you lose weight with breakfast is not convincing and few have wikileaks. Heading those extra calories at breakfast won't help you lose more nor is the evidence that you'll be less hungry if you eat breakfast. There are plenty of people who eat breakfast and do just fine so if you like it. Great if not don't stress on the scale of one to five one is food. Khan and five is science. Breakfast is a two point. Five coffee of course has to be a solid five. They're not being kept in stock because people we're waiting in line and paying five times the amount of money they should for them on Ebay but they sell these like big fat snowmen for your hot cocoa. It's like this giant marshmallow marshmallow candies snowman that melts into your cup of hot cocoa. He looks like he's drowning in the hot cocoa and I I was excited about it and I was going to try to get when I was even GonNa pay a a lot on Ebay. It has four hundred twenty calories. Do they call it hot cocoa hot SONOKO. They call it big fat hot cocoa Snowman Cup of Cocoa Ruina. It's it's all for one cup of Cocoa I think four hundred twenty visit. Just a a clump of sugar in the shape of a stony think. It's a big fat marshmallow with chocolate drops in the middle of it I don. I made sure that I'm white chocolate. Oh It's white chocolate covered or something something but then it has Mar.. It's marshmallow white chocolate chocolate drops. That's probably where all the calories and fat coming up because marshmallows. How could they be next year? It should just be a big fat marshmallow marshmallow. So they're gone actor Joe's and how many more apparently you can't get them like they come in and people wait in line for them and people are fighting over them. I think this is a myth. I think thing that really like twice a week. I've never seen them sold sold out. It's very real. I'm looking at it. Yeah anyone who has one on post it on our on our page. Where's the best place to post it on in the community room it really Yeah and the what's chewing community. If you post it. We might give you a prize. You might win measuring spoons. ooh But you won't get them until after the New York as we won't be here at that Mike's not going to be shipping this wounds from the cruise. I mean I guess I could now. No It'd be an international shipping. Those bad bad bad okay. We're going to jump in and start talking about my first favorite food find of twenty nineteen. Are you ready for it. Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond milk blended with real bananas. I just call it. Banana Almond Breeze So good delicious. I just can't even explain it so like the thing about it is that I think it's hands down the best almond milk I always did. I tend to drink the unsweetened vanilla. I was excited to see the banana. Come out because I like banana. But I'm very picky with my banana flavor. If something thing tastes fakey or like banana runs or banana candy. I'm like no way. This is only made with Real Bananas and Almond Milk and it tastes so incredibly delicious and fresh and real and it's sweet and it only has eighty calories a cup and you can do so many things with what do you do with it. Oh I take it bowling like the best thing that I do with it is I make a cereal milk La Tae that is to die for so I had a I just love to concoct coffee drinks and so I I like to spike my coffee with the banana milk in general hot cold whatever but the ice law Tei is something that I may. Can I use like malted milk powder and a little bit of Stevia and the Banana Almond breeze and Vanilla instant coffee which is like a bit of a rare product that we will link you miss cafe it feels very international. I wonder if you could cause holidays. And it's cocktail hour and stuff like that and make like a white Russian like a banana Russian with an absolute no matter you can do anything with it it can do any. I would vote for it for President President me too. Yes I also add cocoa to that. I don't know we know we're not going to stop talking. That is not but it's good that you can even put in your oatmeal or in your cereal milk. Just be creating your cereal milk. Mix It with your milk in your cereal but you can just be creative of and have so much fun with it. It's mild but it has just the perfect amount of banana flavor and the perfect amount of sweetness and it's also low in fat two grams. Yeah no now added sugar. The only sugar is from. I guess whatever comes from the almond milk in the banana the but good knocking. Also just the banana. Yes four smart points. But you don't need the full cup now very very thick so even if I use it to make a smoothie and sometimes I do use it with my macho powder and I make banana matches. You only need a few ounces. I WANNA try that and I'll make you okay. Please right after this episode. Is it over yet. Sadly no world on the second product but the second product is a new. Oh Bar so the thing is doing what we do. We probably get thirty or forty boxes of food per month shipped here. You know that little ball. And Oh yes you're right it's like every day the ups man. It's the Fedex man. It's this man that atman random deliveries people who find that our address banging on the door they drop off off boxes of food for us to try and I would say every week. There's at least five new bars and that's a lot of bars and I I don't understand it I'm always like how can anyone. How can anyone sort of come out with a new bar? That's better than anything that exists but believe it or not today. I'm talking about two bars. The first one being an atlas protein bar. We have them here. I just hear you say that's how much I love this protein bar so think of it as like I would say first of all this is like a kito friendly bar. I am not a Kito person but this is in theory Akito Bar so all the people are going nuts over it The bars have about a two hundred to two hundred twenty calories ten to twelve grams of fat. So they're not low in fat but they are very low in sugar two to three grams of sugar. Fifteen impressive grams of protein gene. Six smart points so. Let's take a peek at these bars. They Jamie's in charge of grabbing them but they come in chocolate cow peanut butter utter chocolate Chip Vanilla Almond Chai almond chocolate chip peanut butter and raspberry mint chocolate chip. That's a lot my favorite flavors the peanut butter chocolate chip. which is this one here on Chai? Oh really that's my least favorite of all the bars but it is still good if you like Chai Chai Fan. I just like Vanilla Ella and Hilas my not my favorite flavor in the world. But I don't buy chocolate flavored protein bar. I feel like I'm eating chocolate bar like I feel like I'm cheating now. Now we get the bottom of it Jamie licenses in China because she feels like in some way virtuous all I know is you got peanut butter and chocolate right there and I'm GonNa have the peanut butter so the texture of them. They're very dense. So imagine them they're like don't WANNA say they're like a quest bar because they're not quite as chewing but they are just so yummy and they have this row. WHOA this one has a giant Chocolate chip hunk have lots hunks of chocolate chips chocolate. Chip you has. It's so good it's it's like in a League of its own like I feel like it's hard to even compare it. It isn't what I like about. It mostly is that there's no I know only two grams of sugar. So what does it even sweetened with. Because you'd think I would. I know this but it has no aftertaste. And that's impressive. Because a lot of times these bars are overly sweet and they have a terrible aftertaste. It smells peanut butter gophers sugar. It's got monk fruit. Oh what's mum firm. They use it masterfully. Some people don't know how to sweeten things the right way without on making it tastes and the chocolate too. It's like no it's just perfect and it's filling and sometimes I get three servings outta this bar it's just so somebody buddy that usually if you had said that to be. No one gets three servings out of a snack bar it's really it's just so satisfying and it doesn't at won't melt doesn't bend. I have them in my purse all the time. It's great to travel with and this flavor. There's a peanut butter raspberry that tastes like peanut butter and Jelly. y'All got you can open that if you want you'll have to Save Aleida all right those bars to me. Get an eight plus I. It's so rare that a bar makes its way into my life and and this even more than the other bar that I'm gonNA mention later. These are all of my purse. These are in my travel bag. Just got back from a trip. I eight one on my trip. These were literally in your bags that we have not the ones you just eight but I have replicas similar ones in my travel back then I can show you And it's it's made with way protein and it is sweetened with mum fruit and it's available online mostly at Amazon and Atlas Bars Dot Com. Yeah anyway thumbed up terms uh-huh up good all right. We're moving on to something that I ate already today for lunch and by the way I was just I was laughing. I don't know if I said this yet but I the two things that they've eaten today are in this. podcast saying it again repeating just to stress. This one is from trader. Joe's my favorite place I love that place. They have so many interesting products that I just think like magical humans create these things and one of the ones that really worked. Its way into rotation trader arming chicken and vegetable wonton soup. So this is one time soup. the one tons are like have a little bit of Cilantro in them. I would whoa nicely flavored took and Washington's chicken broth and it comes in the freezer section in a bowl it's pre- bold pretty leybold you just take the frozen cook thoroughly cook it thoroughly. Don't don't eat the ICICLES minutes like three and a half minutes because they eat this almost every day and I eat it with another one of my favorite products so this is the fourth item on the list that I combined with the third molest. It is the trader Joe's savory broth breath chicken flavor about this product packets. You hear me shaking the packets. Says you're great travel product. It's a packet of chicken broth. I Love Chicken Broth because it makes me feel like I'm eating a meal. These only twenty calories and what I do is I squeeze. I cook this wonton soup about three quarters of the way. Then I squeeze a packet of this end and add some extra water so it gives you like a giant bowl of soup for lunch so none for literacy miss this lunch so this is both of them that were about to try. Yes so this is this little concoction. I had Aaron mom thrown together but this is the regular bowl of soup with the additional national chicken broth an extra water so you get huge extra liquid and so it ends up being like. He's only extra calories two hundred forty couch for a giant. I also good bowl and I love dumplings so like are they look like dim-sum than per traditional one tons but I had dim-sum with you. Where were we dimsum? We're always good. Remember wow that's really good week. It's amazing isn't it the best seriously. And there's like beautiful the fresh veggies in the soup so favorite part. It's I know there's carrots and there's like snow peas and the one towns are like hefty. Wonton is this like ground chicken It's like thumbs up best winter lunch ever and you feel like you've eaten so much food for for two hundred and forty calories. I literally. I was a trader Joe's last week and I saw like a couple of girls shopping and they were right next to the one time they were looking at it and I just walked over and I said you need to buy this and then I proceeded to like take them shopping for like fifteen minutes and tells them what to buy. They seem to appreciate it But this is life changing in writing. I would totally have that. I love it. You could take the rest of that hack one time radio with the instant packet water neom truly and that packet so like just has to describe this. It's like chicken Goo. It's not powdered chicken soup so it's like a chicken chicken broth liquid. Concentrate so you have to add water but you. You could add this to a lot of things to give you more flavor especially other bowls of soup just to like get bulk things up. Sometimes you know it. I will sometimes have a What's that you know? Those teabag type soups the art of Broth. That's like a chicken soup now. I love those too but I have this to that. Oh that's smart. Just a bulk it up. If you want a soup bulker upper. This is I keep these everywhere all right next up we ready for the next item item number firing and on Barracuda's sounds like a Jewish prayer. Got We're all Jewish or the one of the characters from Willy. You want with the beans salt. Well these are unsalted. I don't know all right so I have these barracas that I have here are. Here's the thing I thought I knew a lot about food. I thought I knew every nut under the sun. It's like how could there be a new nut. There's a walnut pecan. There's a Estacio. There's an almond as a cashier. There's a a Penola Yoli or an Indian. Not If you're being do not saying no my nuts one day all of a sudden I hear new not. It's a Baraka I'm like what is this. What are we gonNA racket this new nut but there isn't it's from Brazil but it's not a Brazil nut no it's a Baru Nut? It's a Baru nut from Brazil so Brazilian Baru Ruina but these actually. It's called Baru because that's like the brand name right Ruka. I didn't get one city. Well known I liked appeal them. But you don't need to peel them so to me. CBS Not so that this is like the stuff they tout is like. Oh it's better for you. It has less fat. It's lower in calories and it has more protein. I Dunno if any of that's that's true it must be them but it tastes like an like an ominous peanut. Had A baby boy totally. It's like a sturdier peanut It is there hugh. It's like a less oily. Peanut wonder what Brooklyn Mutter would bring up. Whatever tastes like not as good as peanut butter home exalt? I know because it's not as rich. It's better as a snacking not look howling but I feel like it would be really popular. It'd be like a lean butter it might be but look how it's like. Look at it was attractive till you describe her like a fingernail. I was GonNa say that's me and I liked to appeal the little outside off. I don't know if that's a thing or not but does it have more fiber. I don't even know now when you peel off the outside but a quarter cup has one hundred forty calories. Ten grams of fat five grams of fiber six grams of protein and four smart points. A lot of fiber fewer calories than most fiber and protein of all the nuts the time three times the antioxidants as most not slow. That's a Lan Very impressive and you can get them at natural retailers. I don't know what the heck that means James or online at Amazon or BARRACAS DOT COM. There's a nice man. Net brought them here from Brazil and he's devoted his life to Bruyas. Wow I I think I just made that up. That's what I heard like seriously but they're not. Please order BARRACAS We were not paid by the Baroque aboard to say that all right next up enlightened dairy free bars. Oh do we have any look early on so many podcasts. So many is every time we turn around. There's a new one. I know it's true. I love you know. I love enlightened. I've always enlightened when they first burst onto the ice cream scene it was bars. They're really good at the bars in the novelties. But when they came out with the dairy free bars I was like. Why do these taste in my opinion even better than the regular ones they? There's no protein flavor. There's no not that. I love all enlightened ice cream. And don't get me wrong but there's something about the dairy free that are just better. The salted caramel peanut butter and Jelly. Monkey business monkey business. I love that Boca chocolate chip and then chip and they are available in. Freezer is nationwide and I eat them winter. Spring Summer Fall. I'm I'm having flashbacks till the last time we tried them. They're so like creamy. And the swirl best in Clay Arts creamy yeah yeah totally I'm an an unbelievably. You will never ever no. They're dairy free. Never ever not that it matters. I like dairy. But if you don't like dairy then our view like dairy but you can't have dairy true and they only have ninety to one hundred calories two to four point five grams of fat three or four smart points worth every penny. Are we ready for another bar bar on all right again. I can't believe a second bar has made it into this list to be honest but again this is a go macro. Is this another Kito thing. I can't even did. I spill the soup wetness on the table cloth through that or up on on the table getting upset that the that's why we have. Mike Are Star editor unless he feels like making look today. I'm going to edit that out. It happens what's going to happen. No it's not okay. Everybody pees Mike through all right so this is a go macro Makro. Oh Bar now. When it showed up I was like look so earthy crunchy look at the design? It looks like some Weirdo. I don't know like it looks like it would smell like Spencer gift I disagree. I've ordered these on Amazon like three times. Well I even have a surprise so they have a bunch of different players and I decided to order the peanut butter. Wow that's so funny funny that you say that because in my head and say that's one of the few bars that I would. That does not need peanut butter. It's so good without peanut butter and now canal. Try that peanut butter one so that the deal is it's so much more dense I think it has two hundred seventy calories. This one's way hired peanut butter ones. I only eat like I'll eat like a third word or quarter at a time but but it's it's so I can't explain it. It's called go macro the macro Bar vegan gluten free non GMO so there's no GMO's my Vegan. Niece is obsessed have to hide the bars. I give her her share here and then I hide the rest. Because I'm afraid she's going to attack them because she does that. I can't get over. How good those are? Yeah everyone disorder them right. Yeah Okay we have no stake taken the company. Although they should at this point give us like huge amount of equity in the company that was on. Yes that's where I get mine. They're not cheap. I think it's like I don't know how many you get. But it's like twenty nine dollars or something. Maybe I don't know so but we'll link you out there and you'll see it party ready for the next item. x what's that next is a savory item as Jamie was is hoping and and recommending this is a product that we have talked about many times before it is called right rice not right not left rise not wrong race right rice and it's rife made of vegetables and other things so like lentils and NP's and and regularize is part of the part of the recipe as well so it takes. The texture is very rice. It's like you feel like you're eating rice this to me. It's like rice with a purpose rice with nutrition to fill you with nutrients and make you feel good the US this flavor is original comes in. I think actually this is one of the new flavors at Salon. Throw line so this comes in original Spanish lemon pepper garlic doc. Herb Thai Curry Salon Tro wine and it just I love the texture of this race. It again. It's one of those things that makes you. It's Comfort Food Eh. Finest it's rice. You can eat without guilt. Because I am a Veggie rice-eater I don't eat regularize for the most part but I take this rice. I do so many the different things with it. One I mix it with call. He's GonNa say it'd be perfect. Yeah because it makes your cauliflower rice which is great on its own taste even more rice. Like I'm sniffing this. Smells like like like Yeah it's on this. We'll have more right rice news relating to originate in the near future sting. I can't talk about it now but a third of a cup dry has one hundred eighty calories to grams of fat ten grams of protein. We're Charlie makes like a full cup right That's a third of a cup. Three quarters of I think the serving size. I can't remember exactly if it's like three quarters of a cup or I don't think it's it's a full cup but it's a nice serving size and it fills you up. It's gluten free. It's a complete protein and I mean the taste and texture just like though rice and it has five times as much fiber as Whitewell. So it's good stuff and they're all about the complete proteins. I know that's really hard to get if you're a vegetarian. Yeah very very very very very I always hear that and I don't know what it means exactly but they say all this kind of p protein protein but this that and the other thing anyway. We don't know those things. That's not our expertise different podcast. But don't leave hours so you get the right Sil- and whole foods at the rice. I'll in in whole foods. I don't know who anthony is. I've we've tried Google him. Yeah we should find out. We should be able to find this out. I think I'm Lincoln friends with either Anthony or his someone that works at his company. Wow he's a freaking genius in use. He has like anything like cassava flour and all these like sort of interesting ingredients that you want us. He has they all come in like bat like little bags. You order them on Amazon but his cheese powder blows any natural cheese powder out of the wildwoods natural. It's natural yeah. It has daring in it. But it's natural so you just add water and you make your own version of like easy cheese or cheese with cheese goo. It's like the most imagine being like a twelve year old boy and wanting to have gooey cheese goo and everything right you can imagine that might even I can imagine I know I was GonNa say only me out but if you just mix a little water in it you make cheese sauces and you can add it to bump into anything to bump up the cheesy flavor so I use it all the time in cooking or just make a cheese cheese sauce and I put some steamed Broccoli or throw them a bag of Broccoli in the microwave steam it in the microwave and then just dip it in the cheese okay. I'll take your right rice and Caliph Lower Rice Combo. I'll toss it with some of that cheese sauce and then I'll top it with an over easy egg I have. I've done the cheese and the right rice and the Cali Rice thing. I don't think I ever had the with a get. We'll get to be a cooking show. Where every dish just ends say and now we're egging thrown on top? I do like an egg all right so two tablespoons of Anthony's cheddar cheese powder seventy calories four grams of fat four grams of protein. Three smart points. It's gluten free non. GMO No artificial colors. And it's a great swap for like the blue box the kraft cheese grew orangey. ENGY CHETTERI goodness. Yes and you buy it on Amazon or at Anthony's goods DOT com. I would like to see a snowy winter scene with Anthony's cheese patterns snowflakes falling from the sky. These talk about yeah totally enemies pile love cheese thing it is also great on cauliflower on Yoki So good ooh cheesy cauliflower nuking mm-hmm Yup. I don't want to not talk about this product anymore but we have to move on. I'm so excited I've been eyeing this item. This hack of yours since the beginning of the podcast cast okay. The next item is trader. Joe's everything but the Bagel seasoned smoked salmon. So I love the creativity of the trader. Joe's people they took their most popular item of the past. Two years there. Everything Bagel seasoning and they decided to add a to smoke salmon Jehovah's so genius the whole pack because I think one hundred and eighty calories ninety calories is serving. Almost I'm wrong but it smoked salmon and really good smoked salmon calories a serving big one ninety ninety for the whole on sixty hack. Oh sorry one sixty for the whole pack my math is shoddy and then you can spend eat it alone loan but like. I'm not a person who put smokes on bagels. I eat it on cucumbers but one of my favorite hacks and this is what I had for breakfast. Mine didn't look as beautiful as this. But it's it's Ed white so I take like a hardboiled egg white taking us big one I take. The Dow could put a little pile of the salmon in it. And and what's so good to good. I'm going to take those home later. It's just yummy EST thing ever. It's dreamy it really is. But this smoked salmon a special special. I'm telling you it is special. You don't need to me smoked salmon and cream cheese. What a waste? You don't need the grim cheese. I don't know I would put a little dollop of cream cheese in that ED white you could. You certainly could but you don't need to anyway I love it. Couldn't love it more and Kudos to trader Joe's for making that happen and let's be honest if they ever get rid of it. We can just buy smoked salmon and everything Bagel seasoning and kind of make it ourselves. Just press it in with your thumbs. I mean unless you're GONNA dangle the La- as you eat it it should just stay on your dangle it here a springer just wave it around wait is that everything yes. Can we eat more. We were terrible. 53: The Starbucks Episode
"Hungry. I'm so hungry. Hey, people it's me. Lisa Lillian here at hungry land with Mike and Jamie. How are you guys so thirsty? I am getting over a cold. So if I sound a little horse like like a pony, you'll you'll know why. But I'm really excited, first of all the day we're recording this, this is our one year anniversary of when we launched our first podcast. Exciting. No. It's very excited. Yeah. And we're doing well I know it's over a million, listen. Yeah. Well over a million almost according to Mike, it's almost one point one after this episode drops like by the weekend. We'll have one point one. That's so cool exciting. And we're number one in food right now in the morning food, three in the top twenty and sixteen in the top two hundred. That's incredible. Go we're amazing. So this episode Mike just catapult us up even higher right? Possibly. Yes, I hope so because it is, it's a very, very popular. Subject matter. Today's episode is the Starbucks episode. Now even lollies excited. She scratching me, you know, the thing is people will not give up their Starbucks. They will give up anything before, Starbucks people, I know who are say they're so broke they've given up. You know, they don't watch TV. They don't have subscriptions to anything anymore yet. They're in Starbucks, every single day spending money on coffee drinks amazing is the best. I think what we were preparing for this. I think I made like three separate Starbucks runs because just writing about it and thinking about it. Got me jonesing for my therapy that spend like twenty bucks a day at Starbucks. My, my former boss with twenty bucks a day. No. That's just I don't know. I mean, I, I love Starbucks and my favorite thing hungry, girl. Here we make a lot of Starbucks drinks, we remake them. But it's fun to try to figure out what is good there in what is better for you and what the best choices are. And what the shockers are I you know, it's something we've been doing since probably two thousand four and it still surprises me. There's still some things that we stumbled upon when we were getting ready for this episode that I think we were surprised to see. Yeah. We have so much, good information. We have great fines. We're gonna do some chew Intel, which is exciting. And we've been have some exciting news from the world of Starbucks. All right. Starbucks cups are getting a little more colorful and eco friendly, the coffee giants introduced a new line of color changing cups last week, and they sold out almost instantly. You couldn't get him after I think a couple of hours, hopefully they'll be back in stores. By the time is episode airs. The reusable cups are only for ice drinks, and can hold up to twenty four ounces and they come in a pack of five and run about seventeen bucks, which isn't bad for five cups. Are you curious as to what the colors are? All right. So the first one is rose. So it starts out is light pink. And then when you put the liquid in it goes to coral red, then it's they're Citron, which goes from yellow to Emily green sky, which goes from light blue to cobalt blue there's apricot, which goes from light orange tangerine, and then Arctic, which goes from -til to raspberry pink o m j I wanna see. It's so funny because we have notes in front of us. But our notes are black and white. So I feel like I'm getting Mejia fail on my part. I mean, is there a picture? Oh my God. They're gorgeous. That's that's beautiful. I, I will be buying these. All right. I have to tell you, I did look to see if I could get them because they are sold out everywhere. And I went on Facebook marketplace, which is like EBay for your town, that people are selling them for twenty dollars per Cup. What I saw the lowest, I saw was fifty dollars for a set of five while I'll take it. Yeah. Are they nearby? Baggio, but that's crazy that they're going for that much money. That's so that reminds me of when there was a pair of coach boots that Sarah, Jessica Parker war on sex in the city, and I became obsessed with them, and I started calling every coach store in the entire country to find the boots. And I just ordered whichever ones they had no matter what size. 'cause I, I didn't know which size would fit me. But then I ended up, I didn't even try and they all sold on EBay for like four times. Oh my. That's insane. Can go into business doing that anyway. So we're starting off the Sepah today with chew and tell aren't we, it's a sip Intel, because we're trying out the new drinks at Starbucks that everyone is talking about all right? So let's jump in. Starting off today with you guessed it a to Intel but it's really a sip Intel, because we are trying out some of the best new drinks that Starbucks is offering one of them is like an old favourite that they're bringing back and the other two brand new they've been nicknamed the magenta drink, but they're really mango dragon fruit drinks or mango, dragon fruit refresher is that the official. I think that's the official name is the refresher the refresher for this for so long. I know. And the thing is people are raving about them and saying, they're amazing. They're mango dragon fruit and you can get them either made with lemonade more with coconut milk. And if you get a tall made with lemonade, it's only seventy calories, an atoll made with coconut milk is one hundred not too bad up at all. They're gorgeous, which we try first. Let's try the lemonade one. I okay. So let's look at this atoll is not that tall. If this is the tall I too tall. How many calories are in the tall this has seventy all right? So normal drink. Yeah. I mean I'm used to getting the calls there. It's enough. It's so pretty. Harder than I expected. It is very tired. Ooh. It's cool and crisp. It's a little like pomegranate, to me, doesn't it? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I kinda wanna taste there's real fruit on top. Everything. What does the dragon fruit look like I feel so ragging, I wish look good Raghav, I should know. Like you can't go to the supermarket and just by dragon king. They like Paul and greyish on the outside his drag where my thinking of a passion for it. I don't know. But I like this. I like it. It's, it's not overly. Sweet. It's very refreshing. It doesn't taste overly lemony. And it doesn't taste overly mango, either it just it's nice mix tropical, it's kind of a tropical taste to it tastes like Hawaii after trying this, you're like, well, who needs the coconut milk? But we've gotta try the coconut milk. Creepy drinks this tastes like Hawaii is definitely fluorescent. When you add the coconut milk book look at the color that it changes to. Wow. Totally different totally. You know what it does? It takes down the tartness, and it makes it just levels it out in creaming. I love that this would totally work with an alcoholic like some vodka in there or something that party. Oh, yeah. Rum. That's great. I love it. It's and they're very different. You're right. I don't like you would drink these on different occasions. This is like a hot. The one with eliminate hot afternoon during this is a good morning beverage or evening as we've just discovered that we could put some remnant. Yum. Okay, we're hype like enjoyable worth sipping to yom's up. All right. Next up. We have a returning favorite. It's not one of our favorites because of the gallery counts. But it's the ever popular s'mores Frappuccino, which is marshmallow infused. That's the marshmallow of whipped cream on top. But there's chocolate sauce, creamy vanilla coffee milk, and ice with a gram cracker crumble. It's just like a smaller in your Starbucks Cup. How could this not be delicious? Well, because the calorie count is pretty high hundred calories and thirteen grams of that. That's with the whip full disclosure. The reason why we're even trying today is because we came up with a drink that was inspired by this. We didn't try to copycat it out. But we made one we were inspired to try to make one and it's coming out in our daily Email next week is awesome. It's so exciting so exciting. So if you don't get the emails sign up go. To hungry girl dot com and sign up for them. Did you try? No, I'm like, I'm going to try it right now. We have the whip we got the whip because it's marshmallow infused. Oh my God. Oh, that's pretty good. It's to sweep though. It's very sweet. I could not drink an entire one of those. That was excellent. The most impressive part of this, the marshmallow marshmallow it tastes like flow. It it's so good. Really good. I'm going to have this the rest of the shows that, okay, yes. That's why we got to. Well, one because I'm hacking up God knows what but the other is because we knew you'd wanna have your own my, but that's Yemi. That's delicious. But I'm extremely glad that there's a hundred swap coming out. Yes. Hours has like I mean, it's less than one hundred fifty calories. I think it's like one fifty and it's loaded with protein. Oh, yeah. That's right. Ours has a protein a secret ingredient. Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay. So speaking of secrets, we are moving onto five Starbucks secrets. We're gonna give you the best ways to order or modify your Frappuccino, and other fancy schmancy, Starbucks drinks because everybody needs help their right, everybody about their some baristas, that don't even know this information. They don't they all seem confused. When I go in order, things especial way. So there should be like secret hungry girl, barista training, one on one. We do that, okay. I secret one this is sad news. We should cue this ad music. They recently are not so so recently, maybe about a year ago, got rid of the light Frappuccino offering. So they used to be a light Frappuccino base. They would make their Frappuccino with something that was lower in calories. Think it was sugar free. But they got rid of it, and they do that to us. I thought that was a really bad idea. So now you can sort of fake it a little bit. If you order a Frappuccino, you can do a swap out from the milk. So if you order it with almond milk. Don't say skinny just order the Frappuccino with almond milk instead of fat free milk, because it's actually lower and that reduces the calories a little bit. And no whip and you're better but still a frat Pacino probably not your best bet at Starbucks. Yeah. We did a little research, if you are going to get a frappe vanilla and the coffee versions are the latest, once you get into s'mores territory, you're, you're getting up there in trouble told me this. Oh some halfway through this. Wow. You going on that? Oh my. Okay. Second secret. And this is a little bit of a shocker skinny ordering something skinny, which has been like all the rage for the past ten years. It's not your best bet at Starbucks anymore, believe it or not, the almond milk has fewer calories than the skin mill. Wow. So it's a super skinny super-duper skinny, exactly. So if you order it skinny, you're gonna get the protein from the skim milk, but because it has more calories. It's going to end up upping the calories of your drink. Now, if the drink only has a couple of houses milk. It's not a really big deal. But if you're having a lot or something with four six ounces of milk, it could make a big difference. But you should know when you order something skinny, they will default to giving you a drink. That's made with skim milk, and they will give you sugar free syrup if it is available, and they will also not include whipped cream, so that's their version. That's what skinny means to people at Starbucks. So have you can order, skinny order skinny with almond milk and another trick? If your drink comes with pumps of syrup especially if it's sugary syrup you can ask for only one or two pumps. They usually throw in like four or five just ask for fewer pumps, even if it sugar free. Yeah, I do that. I usually stay away from artificial sweetener. This is probably one of my only indulgences. Because you're at Starbucks. You wanna have something a little yummy without a million calories. So I'll usually say one or two pumps of the sugar. Free syrup doesn't feel as Kuku is doing four or five for me. Right. And it doesn't taste as fakey fake. Yeah. It's, it's a lot because I do I do the like the skinny vanilla low taste tiny short ones with like one pump of Jaffrey to the same thing. Okay. We ready to move on. All right, next little secret. This is a little known fact. You can request less whip if you don't wanna go fully with free. That's good. See, it's good to know there's a middle ground because sometimes if you're going to get a drink like a fancy drank you feel kinda sad. If you say, no whip I like that. They'll give you less whip. Yeah. They'll do anything. They're pretty accommodating there. So the whip cream itself, probably has one hundred calories, if you do less, you can. Get down to fifty or a tiny little squirt that's really one hundred calories. Oh, yeah. God. Wow. Well, look at the mountain of whip on that thing it's almost worth it. How come they don't have that fat free whip? The one that comes in the red can cause that's, that's just a ready whip. They don't they have their own whip cream, but, you know, you can order a pup Achino, which is just a Cup of cream, they call that a pup Achino for your dog. Footer love that. I just noticed Jamie has penny. Pause airings on. I should've worn coffee being airings for today's episode. You can go change. All right. Yeah, get the Pacino for your dog. If you have a dog that's a bonus secret. Yes. That's an extra added one moving on to secret number four. As Mike down says s'mores Frappuccino, you can actually swap the whipped cream for cold foam. What's co foam is what they usually put on their cold brew and it skim milk and vanilla syrup, which is froth together. It's really yummy. It only as thirty calories and five grams of sugar. But if you want to be super creative, you can also get the cold foam made with almond milk, and even sugar-free sear. This is like a secret within a secret. It's how meta secret within a secret within a secret. So if you're okay, and you don't wanna deal with the fake sweeteners and you just want the regular syrup. That's fine. But if you swap out the almond milk, I wonder if it gets foamy, I wonder I did ask, if they would do it, and they said, sure, but, you know that's made it's. Gonna come out super frothy, like you said, but skim milk, and I would do the skim milk and sugar free syrup. I think you said, you might splurge do the, the skim. Yeah. The skill on the regular is only thirty calories and five grams of sugar. So as it stands, not so bad. It's a good little swap out and I love the phone like it's cool. Feels like you're getting your whip fix absolute less than half the calories. It just looks like wilty sad with green. Okay. Final secret number five. There is a secret short size. So like a drink that you might think that tall is the shortest. That's what they tell you, right. It's like it's like a hidden secret at Starbucks. If you order a short, they give you a tiny Cup. So the short is eight ounces. The tall is twelve so you can really save a lot of calories. Yeah. That's great. It's great. And it's cute sometimes like when I get a super hot skinny latte. I don't need a giant one. I end up throwing out some of my coffee anyway. So I think that's is, is actually perfect. Yeah. I think if you wanna give the s'mores frapp, try that would be the way to go. Oh, short khanate. Do I don't think they can do a cold short. Let's find out. I don't know if you guys know they have an amazing tall is the smallest they go for the frappes because the short is like a little paper Cup. But it works for a lot of the other drinks anything hot. Okay. Let us move on to best bets at Starbucks for less than a hundred calories. Wow, is there's more than just cough. It's not going to be like Kofi sweet and low. Right. It's not just like a too big a Cup of water. No, there's a lot, you can get actually and some of it's obvious. Like you said, if you just get like black coffee, or you just get an ice black coffee or a cold brew. That's obviously going to be almost calorie free, but focus on the cold drinks because it is getting hot out there warm out. It's getting kind of Fizi as they say, we're focusing on the cold drinks, and there are a lot of good options for less than one hundred calories. They are okay. I won the iced skinny cinnamon Dolch lotto, with almond milk that only has fifty calories. It's so good. Thanks to our special hack of doing a skinny with almond milk. Exactly. It's and they have the cinnamon syrup and sugar free, which definitely saves you calories, and that's for tall right, fifty calorie. Yes, these are all talk and you know what? But if you got the 'Grande it was at the verse is bigger than the dog that probably still will be still under. Because that's only fifty. Okay, next, the iced skinny mocha with almond milk. Atole one of those only has eighty five calories Slough for chocolate coffee drink. That's pretty great. Yes. It's like they've got this delicious mocha sauce that they mixed with Espresso and milk. But you get with the almond milk and throw it over ice. It is so good, another great drink for fifty calories, the cold brew with cold foam. Well, that's a good combo. They were meant to be. Yes there couple and most of those are just coming from the foam anyway. But you get it with almond milk and sugar free syrup, and you can save even more. So if you get that cold brew and you order the cold foam with the almond milk like that, low hack gave you earlier that thing's going to have maybe like twenty or twenty five calories. Okay. And then next drink under one hundred calories that we love. It's the ice Starbucks blonde vanilla lofta with almond milk, and sugar free syrup and MAC, I only has fifty calories. Good. I love the blonde roast so mild. It is. And then with vanilla Lotte, it's going to be all smooth and creamy yummy. And I believe there's more caffeine in a blonde roasted coffee what because the more you roasted, the less caffeine the caffeine burns off. I did not know that one hundred percent. Sure. I believe that's what I heard. But I do know that the layer the rose, those are strong the coffee. I've heard that too. Counterintuitive by the way, the dragon drinks do have caffeine. I'm not sure where it comes from. But I did read that. Oh, we aware would it come from the dragon naturally has caffeine. I don't know about that. Just just a lot of a lot of potential fact there. My son could call him. Correct me. Where is that true? They can they probably will what's the number to call to correct eight oh five three eight oh, eight oh, seven five. I actually got some people telling me that Spanish rice is what they serve at Mexican restaurants. If you call from, like four episodes ago, they serve Spanish rice at restaurants. That's where Mexican the rice that Mexican restaurants is called Spanish rice. That is definitely good information and information I did not know about it, which doesn't make sense of the Starbucks episode, but still good to know. All right. Moving onto breakfast. We all go to Starbucks morning time or a lot of us do. And you see the case with all the breakfasts staring at you. It was pastries muffins. Yeah. My actually, I don't want to rat out my nephew, but I was with him last week in Boston. And we were about to go out to a giant early lunch, and he is in the hotel lobby drinking a giant lotto and eating score. Oh, that's his meal right there. That's like six hundred calories probably. Right. And well, the thing is, I, I was like, oh, he's like, I'm just having tiny school, and it's not like I'm eating a big on a schmear, and I looked at the calorie count. And the Scone had more calories than the bagel it did. Yeah. But he wasn't. He wasn't that hungry during lunch anyway. So this cone is not the option to get, but there are good things you can get for breakfast at Starbucks. Okay. I item on the list the hardy blueberry oatmeal. So this is a newer addition. I think they originally debuted the classical male with all the top. Right. So then that's as say, like the original oatmeal that is to say at Starbucks. It was okay. I like it. But this sounds like a better bet because the original meal had, they give you little Baggies of like there'd be a bag of dried fruit. There'd be a bag of Brown sugar. I think it was a third bag. I used to like the nuts. I would like save the nuts as a snack for later. But this one it actually has real blueberries. I like that. That's more filling in my opinion, and they still give you the little bags of stuff. But. You can save it for later, and you don't need it or you could just have the blueberry oatmeal, it has two hundred twenty calories as served. So even with all the stuff they give you two hundred twenty calories, which is not bad. Not at all. That's great for breakfast. But even better, in my opinion, or the breakfasts that come with a lot of protein and they have great sandwich options there. They have reduced fat, Turkey, bacon egg, white breakfast sandwich that has two hundred thirty calories. I'm so proud of them for offering that me too. Probably really feeling to it is, it's like a little, it's their version of their ethnic Muffin kind of situation. Mike can't get enough of that smallest Frappuccino. Do our second one. At the bottom, and I'm trying to get the cream the butter, the butter creams, I would it's called nets marshmallow cream boop cream without, you know, making that noise so that you guys don't hear it. Slurpy noise. All right. You can do that, while I talk about the best best best, best breakfast, offering Starbucks has to offer, which is the spinach and cage free egg. White breakfast wrap this rap is to die for the Roba's caged free. The rap has never been in a cage. Well, neither have the chickens who laid the eggs, free range wraps. Underrated. Okay. Two hundred ninety calories for that thing. I remember when this came out so I'm going to describe it this rap like I almost had a heart attack. It was so delicious. It was like this. Like, holy tortilla with spinach. It has sun dried tomatoes and the combination is just heavenly. And they pulled it off the shelves after a few months, and we recreated it. We have a recipe. We're going linked to it on our show page. But now you can just get it at Starbucks. So that's what I was gonna say, the end of that story is that Lisa came in so excited. She was like, in the kitchen dissecting pulling it apart. We're gonna remake so excited by the time the Email went out. They had already put it back on the menu. But we were like we don't care. We may have it at home. Now you can end it actually tastes. Exactly like it should. So I don't know what it is about this. But you're able to recreate that at home. Okay. Another. Oh, we have another two Intel. We are chewing and telling something we've already chewed and told Sabido egg bites. Didn't we do this? This year into this. This is probably like last year. Might have been like eight months ago. There was episode, which was, I think I was. June or something last year. So it's been almost a year, I one or did you travel? Okay, if I remember when we were deciding what to feature here leases that I don't remember trying that and I think we did. So we decided it was worth another two. That's right. We don't remember it. You don't remember it. There's severe lead. I mean you remember sue the way it's yeah, it's like cooked in like a bag. It's like pressure cooked cooked in a bag that sound track much fancier than that. It is now. Oh, interesting. Now, I remember they look like let's set it up. They look like little like cupcakes. Almost like little egg patties, and the white our little Muffin, Muffin pan egg bites. It's creamy kind of all the cheese, that's different than what I thought it would taste. Like what do you think Lisa? I think it's okay. I think they're good. But I like I am a purist. I truly love the flavor of Mike NATO. And this is just like so, cheesy. Yes. Almost biting into cheese people. Love these people. Go nuts for them. And these have red pepper Jack cheese, you two of them for a hundred and seventy calories. They're flavorful, cheesy, but I say, not as good as the sandwiches, in my opinion. But I bet they're great for people who are like Kito or Atkins, just really watching their carbs, because there's no starch component fat and protein. Yeah. Good time place. All right. Also on the positive list there, men. And coconut yogurt bowl which we were going to try today that thing has two hundred and fifty calories. But our Starbucks was sold out of them. They must be super popular, and with apple, you get more bang for your calorie. Buck compared to the par- phase, like there's more real fruit in it, and less gunk, but some of the phase phaser okay too, but the thing about par phase. It's always a thing for me. Like I remember when I first started out, I went to a gas station like early on as to take everything I was going to the gas station. Wanna say that the lesson I was at the gas station was when I first started out, but I used to go there to get the food and bring it to the lab to be tested. So we brought like a gas station yogurt granola Parfait to be tested and had, like five hundred calories the infamous gestation yogurt Parfait, which already sounds like a sketchy idea. But now if you had any doubts. Yeah. We found out it was loaded with calories. It's because of the granola and you don't know what kind of yogurt it is. And I have to say, like anything things that look healthy aren't necessarily healthy. But in the case of. Starbucks. They do have a couple of par phase that are decent option. So they have a berry trio Parfait, and they have a fresh blueberries and Honey Greek yogurt Parfait those have two hundred and forty calories. But this is this crazy lemon crunch Parfait and for some reason, that has, like, one hundred more calories skip that baby out more sugar to make the lemon not as I think our your Ryan that up. Yeah. Because you don't squeeze lemon onto. They make like a lemon goop. Yeah. And I think that has full fat yogurt. I don't know why. But it does. And that's another my favorite breakfast there. Okay. Now moving on to lunch. So Starbucks has launched this whole line of they call them protein, boxes and bowls. But in many cases in really bold boxes, there, sandwiches, or wraps, besides like sliced apples or something in the bowl or the box. But they vary like the calorie counts are just like greatly varied four hundred and twenty two six hundred ninety calories. So that's a huge range, big range, and I would think protein box protein bowl done. I would think that's a really Smart Choice. Right. You hear the word. It's a buzzword. So you hear the word protein. And you think it's like power, you know, it's going to be smart and low fat and low in calories. And it just isn't the case. And in many cases, it's not it's they should call it the protein carbs fat bowl, because there's a lot of bread. Butter and jelly one. Yeah. On a sandwich. Yeah. So all of these things you probably could mix and match like if you're savvy like someone who listens to our podcast all the time. And reads the hungry girl, daily emails, you might be able to stand over the case and pick the balls in the boxes and know what to do, like you could unravel the rap and eat all the Turkey out of it, or you could only half the bread in some cases or skip if something is like a big player fruit and cheese, you'd only have a couple of cubes of the cheese. But if you're not savvy, I'd say that there is a best bet and we actually are gonna try one of them right now. It is the chicken and keen wa protein bowl, which has four hundred twenty calories, but that includes the dressing. Oh, wow. I want to say too, by the way, I'm pretty savvy. I looked at all of these, and I couldn't have told you which ones we're going to be lower and higher. It was a little bit because there's a few that look salad like this. There's a lentil and rice one and that one's loaded with calories. This one is a much better bet. And you're right. This does look like a salad. I mean it is. Chemo approaching, so it is it's mixed greens. And then, you know, it's very beautifully sort of prepared. There's like a little pile of tomatoes. There's some grilled chicken. There's keen wa it looks nice. But I don't see that where's the dressing? It's a pretty big too. Yes. It's a big bowl. I feel like you could like sit in this bowl. Well, there's the dressing tightening tape. On the sides. Hold on. While you do that. I'm going to pull up with actually on that because I see some Firoz one. Oh, it was also hidden their corn. See now that I put the took the lid off, and it must smell good because Lally like jumped up and she's ready to try them. Just here's whenever is opening. Try this Sweden ex-great grilled chicken. Chilli vinaigrette fresh greens tomatoes roasted corn black beans, hiccup pep Rica. And how do you say Kuteesa chiefs to Katina's cheese is he? So this has twenty seven grams of protein. This is Jamie size lunch. Yes, especially because you know what? It's not overly keen watt. But the ads adds a nice touch. And it gives it some texture, and it is a little more filling just sitting on top of lettuce. Yeah. I gotta like nice if they miss named this. It's definitely a salad with keen, wa and not a keen wobble. Yes. But people feel better about it. If they think it's a key mobile I was once on an airplane. Ever told this story, I've been on an airplane more than once, but this one particular time I was flying. And I had to listen to the flight attendant. She was British. It was British Airways flight. And she was giving people a choice between the salad with chicken on it, or that quinoa bowl, and she said, at, like five hundred times, and I just wanted to be like keen wa I don't say quinoa and the UK. This is really good where the plane is flying over. They changed the this is like super fresh, like most packets allies. I feel are not like fresh tasting. This is super fresh. It looks amazing. And I love this Hickam gonna try to them. The Hickam is so fresh and crunchy. It's nicely spiced. The paprika really add something smokey that's super flavorful, how many calories and the whole thing it's four hundred twenty including the dressing. Wow. But I don't know. I would be happy as hacked to get that an airport if I were sometimes you're like looking for last minute lunch at an airport. I'd be thrilled to find that. That is a good plain dinner. We don't mean plane tasting but. Plane as an zoom zoom across the sky thumbs up. Starbucks good job on that one. To wash it down was really good. I'm going to have another. Okay. Another good bowl believe it or not the eggs and cheese bowl. And what that really is. It's hard, boiled eggs. They give you a little role that if you fruit peanut butter, so you can mix and match. But if you ate that whole I don't mean the plastic everything inside of four hundred seventy calories, but I usually dipped the yolks. So you save some there. And if you don't eat that little role, you'd save even more. So that's a decent option as grapes apples slices. That's pretty good. Yeah. I feel like this one's also misnamed. It should really be because it says eggs and cheese, it's really eggs and fruit, and then a couple pieces of cheese and a role, that's like what they would call the protein snack pack on United Airlines. If you were on United Airlines. Okay. So like, just be careful with these bowls. Like you can look at those one wrap that made me nuts. I was like, look at a chicken wrap. It looks like it's going to be good. Six hundred ninety calories. Oh my God that's gonna head like three sauces. Right. I was gonna say it all kinds of like mayo. In this kind of cheese sauce. And, and then you unwrap the tortilla and it's like nine hundred feet wide. So could use it as a blanket on your plane ride. Yeah. They have that they have. It's a different thing. Don't eat it. Okay. Well does that wraps? It up that wraps up, all of our, Starbucks advice, which is good because I feel like I'm about to cough again and holidays offended. Anybody with my voice of the cops out. Version. You have if you here's some cops I couldn't get all the Mt L at Mike. But if you wanna yell at my or ask them, a question, or send us any information you can do so, by calling eight oh, five three eight oh, eight seven five and in case you're on a Walker on a treadmill or doing something, and you couldn't write down this information. The 1980s | Microwaves & Richard Simmons
"Welcome to our podcast. Can we help you. my name is alice. Lloyd i'm gonna nutritional therapy practitioner and i'm leslie learned up a registered yoga instructor long and today. We're talking about the eighties. Nineteen eighties in america. The nineteen eighties. Yup good time. We were children them eight kids. Yeah right and so. Nothing says bold like the eighty s right. I would agree with that eight minute. Yes bold colors. Bold hair choices. Style shoulder packaged bathrobe. Now that had shoulder pads in it. Like i don't feel sex in this. Baffler official has defected. Though in my mind oh thank you bathroom but yes so. Eighties was bright colors big hair. Even the music was full of energy. Since technology made it possible to use synthesizers and drum machines. The culture around eating was also was just as bold colorful. Actually really my aides were all well in in the in the world of lake extreme dieting. it was bolt allowed. Like actually what i'm going to discuss are some more diet trends like we discussed in our seventies episode okay. The eighties was an extension of these diets that often leave out the groups and therefore nutrients. Okay so like. Don't you know yeah. Bold part take cheese out and everything else is okay but you never cheese sort of thing. Yeah people in the eighty s. I mean a test of pure will in trying to lose as much weight as possible. Fad diets here will look like america really and you'll talk about like how exercise. Oh yeah morphed and changed and they will indeed yeah super stuff but fad diets. Were not a flash in the pan during the seventies eighties. People have been actually trying drastic weight loss measure since the eighteen hundreds. Oh really yeah that while yes okay so a couple fad diets here. That people were like we're doing in the eighties. The cabbage soup diet was popular. I in the fifties but then it came back pretty strong in the eighties. Okay for seven days. You eat cabbage soup two or three times a day. You can also eat some other foods like veggies fruits and beef but only when you are told to like a zoo terry strict. This dia dive tells you. Yeah so people are losing weight but they were also like we tire. Kristen cabbage cabbage is really good for you. But not only have i like it. Has you know an addition. Yeah say put it in your suit to get a little crunchy. Yeah nice yeah absolutely. But not jeff's and cat like if you're eating a lot of cabbage it leads to gas. Cabbage like ocean can conway. Is it similar to broccoli. In that way yeah brassica family. Oh is that like a gase. Gase family guessing hanley. And when you are eating like only one thing you're not consuming other nutrients that your body needs to function I spoke about the grapefruit diet and our seventies episode on. This diet continued pretty strong into the eighties. Thanks to the myth that grapefruit can burn fat eating half a grapefruit or like six ounces of one hundred percent grapefruit juice before each meal can help you lose ten pounds in ten days long. That's banana the other morning. I ate a great for before my breakfast. And just be like what what people do. Why what were they thinking ryan and it just felt like i was of course. Didn't continue on a grapefruit. The rest of the the weak the weak or the day even but it just did you put on top of that now. I just stayed a plane us delicious. Was it very good grapefruit. Yeah i hate citrus fruit. Oh you do know oranges. When i played soccer as a kid you. You always have slices recess for the halftime. And i hated it. Just like suck. The juice i hated the pulp hated. The pope is of weird Harmless so on the grapefruit The meals consisted of protein and veggies. The diet is so low in calories essential nutrients people felt exhausted cranky same thing as cabbage on cabbage on your on the cabin. I remember this cottage. Cheese was so trendy in the eighty nine remember that too So cottage cheese is still often called like an eighties diet food. There was not an official diet plan around the cottage cheese but many people just ain't nothing because cheese for three days straight. That has like a diet. Plan ashamed but cottage cheese. Yeah wow i really. I don't think i've eaten it since the eighties i am. He's it when i make lasagna. Okay blend cottage cheese and roasted vegetables together. Oh yeah make it a paste in earlier at nights. It's actually quite good. Yeah but that's the only way. I use that idea like takes. I know i remember eighties. Sure yeah so. Cottage cheese isn't necessarily unhealthy but it contains zero fiber so eating so much of it can cause constipation digestive issues yet. I bet yeah. We also have the beverly hills diet by judy mazel. She released this. Nineteen eighty one. It sold one million copies. It was so popular that it was on the new york times bestseller list thirty weeks. Wow yeah major diet here but despite its success. Medical experts didn't support the books advice that you should not combine types of foods so seems like a dreams. I don't let this is pouring so this diet required you to eat fruit at only fruit for the first ten days and then you had to eat certain fruits specific fruits in a certain which is kind of like how we fed our babies food race to introducing green. Yeah by colors by day. Eleven you could include brad three cobs of corn and two tablespoons of butter on day. Nineteen a week later. You could eat protein so the diet continued like this incorporating like a new food every five to ten days often giving everybody likes circulation issues and diarrhea oh dear not balanced so circulation issues. Y do you know. I think just. They weren't getting the nutrients needed for like proper digestion. And just everything in your body is like stagnant. Yeah stagnant body here. Another diet like this was the fit for lifetime is familiar. I my mom had these books really fit for life was like a thing was linked cultish following like not bad call but Well kind of i mean and i just wanna say. My mom was mccall. She's listening like l. Telling people i'd just remember seeing that fit for life book and i didn't know at the time it was like certain food groups only at one time was the rule same thing. Same fan yeah. Elizabeth taylor published a book in nineteen eighty six about her weight gain and how she lost it. All and this led to the taylor. I remember her you know. She's like a balloon up. And then i know she's having such trouble. Yeah her suggestions were strange though. It was like tuna mixed with tomato paste mail and grapefruit together. No yes that's disgusting or peanut butter and steak sandwiches and she wrote a book around this thing about the peanut butter in the state. Maybe it's kind of like a saturday or whatever you know kinda guess could be kinda but that weird as the greek god. I'm just thinking i'm having this. Memory flashback peanut butter pickle sandwiches really in the eighties. Wonder if it was like an eliza or an lx. You ain't got peanut butter. Yeah just delicious. Though i know deep or whatever i know despite her strange food combinations taylor did speak about her weight. Maintenance truly coming down to self esteem and that is timeless. True isn't it again in. Nineteen eighty eight oprah announced that she lost sixty seven pounds in four months. Thanks to a liquid protein diet. Remember that wagon of fat that she pulled out on the stage. Remember her coming out in like a black shirt yet. She's looking so the end realize yeah. Yeah i remember that did she. She pulled out a wagon with her fat that she has lost. Yeah it was like a wagon of animal fat of like chunks of white fat to to say look at all those lost during a body. Yeah that's disgusting. So we didn't know at the time that she used up too fast. Okay we've found out later. This is a liquid diet program that replaces every meal with the drink providing only four hundred twenty calories a day. that's now so this became super trendy because of oprah's influence and eventually op fast. Was you know. Very famous chef received thousands hundreds of thousands of calls. She you know she's should maker trendsetter marijuana say in two thousand and five oprah acknowledged that liquid diet was a big mistake. Yeah and now she. I mean she knows she recanted. She did as well she should. And the way back of course of course them. All these things are not available day. I feel something we hopefully have learned. I know so a jenny. Craig found her weight. Loss brand in nineteen eighty three and it is still around today. Because i was looking up her stuff amalgamating notices on every time. I open my phone for jenny craig. I'm sorry why. Did you put your information that i didn't like they can tell searching on the. Yeah so this program. The jenny craig program is known for offering one on support coaching and prepackaged frozen meals. Which is that. The meals are convenient balanced and portion controlled. Yes but i was looking at the ingredients now which i can only imagine back then. Were not even high-quality. Picking already but these ingredients. I would never like as a nutrition person recommend anybody to eat the ones that are even in today's packages yes. Meaning i mean there's like zanthosyn. Gum gorgon canola. Oil is in which we are manufactured oil. Tell us a little more about canola in our bonus episode. Manish liu so it's the second episode area feed. Yeah so if you want to hear more cow split for you So anyway ingredients not so great to be better could be better but could it like with these prepackaged frozen meals. How it's hard to prepackaged meal healthy. I mean lots of people try. And i'm sure jenny craig is trying absolutely. Can you see you to add preservatives. Still have to add these things. You is yeah you must be shelf stable. Yeah so while convenient on the program is expensive. There's a ninety nine dollars enrollment fee plus the cost of meals are anywhere from like fifteen to twenty two dollars a day each meal or the whole like you by each her intention is to feed you completely on jenin grain so three meals and snacks come from her yeah squad the mercury is not sustainable again and every meal i mean minus the snack bars need a microwave so it seemed like she really at around this time in the eighties. The microwave was like becoming more commonplace. Sure there's like she really had like the upper hand on the The microwave i become a maybe she now. She saw writing on the wall. Yeah yeah took advantage like. Does anybody now have a microwave. I think very few very few i am. I know and i'll tell everybody now. Why i don't have so as of twenty eleven the. Us census bureau reported nearly universal coverage with ninety seven percent of household us households. Having a microwave in their kitchen. This is up from about one in four households in the mid eighties and barely just one percent in nineteen seventy one. So you see grow so back in the seventies you could open the microwave when it was going and then kept on going at it. Wouldn't stop open it. It stops right. Yeah back then you could like open. It's like a noisy via crank crank credit. You know so so. There has been some improvements definitely so so a defense contractor raytheon introduced the first commercial microwave ovens just after world war two repurposing magnetron tubes used during the war for short range military radar in fact some historians suggest that microwave radar was the technology that won the war seeking new peace time applications raytheon developed and marketed. It's microwave ovens to restaurants in airlines beginning as early as nineteen forty. Six relatively affordable consumer models started catching on in the late sixties by nineteen seventy four. There were an estimated six hundred thousand microwave ovens in us households however the consumers union told the public to be aware of the microwave oven warning that credible safety data was lacking health. Concern started to surface in the late seventies early eighties focused on the potential for radiation leakage. An expert tester of microwave ovens wrote in twenty ten like a lot of the research is still happening. Yeah this expert tester. Microwaves wrote in the electromagnetic spectrum. There is nothing but a judgmental line of demarcation separating xrays for microwaves Critics began highlighting other issues as well raising questions about flavor leaching of plastics. Ya and perhaps most critically the altered nutritional and chemical properties of microwaved food contrary to conventional ovens microwave ovens heat food from the inside to the outside the microwave oven bomb barreds food with waves that zero in on a foods water molecules bouncing around and through the item being cooked in thereby generating frictional heat. Yeah yeah they operate. At a frequency of two point four five gigahertz which is the same rate radiofrequency. You buy in-home wireless technologies such as four g wi fi routers bluetooth. Cordless phones baby monitors. I had heard about like your wifi image. low level radiation which. That's like a different issue than the mike guy. The microwave but that radiation is going through the food that we e in a microwave according to an article written in the us. Just skip over the fire Have three kids them. According to an article in the mid nineties there there are no atoms molecules or cells of any organic system able to withstand such a violent destructive power for any extended period of time islands. I mean to move the molecules of food around like that is like along the water in the food. The result is destruction and de formation of molecules of food and the formation of new compounds unknown to man in nature so by the late eighties. Researchers showed that microwave warming frozen human breast milk was inappropriate. Do the technologies. Do you remember the like. I just know i would never put yeah breast milk in the microwave and i honestly for years since the ninety s not put plastic in the microwave. Yeah i would never got my plastic and the dishwasher via a hand. Wash all my plastic. Yeah so because of the league chang. Yeah yeah everything's a glass ball. Yeah yeah but you put in the micro. Yeah so. I just thought this is interesting what it actually does to breast milk. So researchers showed that the microwave warming of frozen human breast milk was inappropriate due to the technologies effect on the content of the milk. Spend official iggy a antibodies which protect breastfed babies from infection additionally stanford researchers confirmed that high temperature microwaving a frozen breast milk also allowed undesirable e. coli bacteria to spread eighteen times faster compared to non microwaved mill. Oh my yeah. In nineteen eighty nine austrian scientists summarized research showing that microwave treatment of milk. Formula produced hazardous changes in amino acids amino acids are the building blocks of proteins hazard. Yeah hazardous changes that could lead to structural functional Immunological changes they also report the presence in microwaved milk of the amino acid proline which unlike normal proline is toxic to the brain liver and kidneys a currently the cd's currently the cdc advises. American consumers never took thaw or he breast milk a microwave stating that microwaving can destroy nutrients the milk so you would think that it would translate into other things as well right if for breast milk then so the eighties brought forth a ton of this kind of research demonstrated the microwave. Cooked foods unevenly in nineteen eighty one. If you've ever cooked a hot pocket you know that the microwave never time this kidding me. So in the eighties hopkins immersed in the ninety s. I guess you could get in boiling hot on. The outside of middle is frozen style. Let's because the shape is like bigger items can here. I don't think it's all about. Just i don't know maybe there's filling accept frozen. It wasn't even like just cold. It's rosenberg boiling honing sites up not helpful. It was opinion what you plan of sleeve and anyway. Yeah yeah so yeah. There's evidence right that microwave cooking evenly so in the early eighties the los angeles times described. How the us department of agriculture suppressed evidence that microwaved pork due to inconsistent. Cooking could harbor the organism that causes chicken. Oh man somebody who who puts park in the microsystems for the that's disgusting to reheat it then it's already been cooked. Yeah dolph work. What would you maybe. Somebody that doesn't know. Have coke though there's like. Everything is with micro insurer. Maybe here we judge. Yeah but the apparently the usda These result the results of the study under wraps for months fearing they with alarm the public. But all of these microwave studies are not like you know actively like published. People aren't like disseminating it to the now public. Now this is. This is the kind of stuff that like. You don't wanna believe no. I don't i feel like you're lying so You've mentioned plastics. Microwaving has also led to legitimate worries about the leaching of plastics like the bpa into microwave. Food the new york times did in nineteen eighty nine that before. Microwave ovens foods were not exposed to plasticizers plasticizers at temperatures. So high that the plastics became part of the food. Bill now we have products that are promoted as microwave safe however even plastics are not involved. Microwaving has the potential to trigger migration of other toxic substances depending on the type of container or packaging. The food comes in. I hate those like for the meal and they claim like the plastic is fine. Yeah it can't be and then the plastic ta yet right deal in the food. Yeah yeah that can be. It doesn't seem like it. I mean it could be low levels that maybe your body would flash out potentially but your liver. Your liver is the oregon that would flesh things out and she is already busy. That's true no need no need to like bring in some plastic. It's into then also all this. Yeah y- up to yeah so Pillsbury i introduced microwave popcorn in nineteen eighty two when it came out with frozen microwave popcorn but then orville red and bhakkar burst onto the popcorn. Seen just a year later in nineteen eighty three is that when orville random yeah thought it was longer than eighty three so the Microwave popcorn bags are lined with chemicals. I know the breakdown into p. f. o. as which is linked to infertility and cancer. All right so. I had two seconds. I do know that. About an i freak out about the microwave popcorn. Yeah i don't buy it. Yeah i do a little bit because the kids just love it. Yeah but i didn't know that but not all the banks have the lightning have chemical via you. Just don't know so. That's the thing they do. They have to say like you. Just don't know so it's like just kind of stay away from all the. Yeah because not necessarily all of them are going to have it. But i don't know what it what it does is that lining. Yeah so i've read prevents the leaking. It keeps breaking out. So that's what it's preventive like the oil is in the backyard because there's a lot going on there's a better there's popcorn seasoning oil to will battle als so This same toxin. That is found in. The bags is also on sorry teflon right. Now you're not supposed to be heat teflon beyond the medium heat. It's really bad. Yeah which i stay away from teflon. Now yeah so. As a result of microwaving the pf a this toxin migrates to the popcorn oil where it produces concentrations that are hundreds of times higher than the amount of pf as that could migrate from nonstick cookware. So well popcorn bag worse than tough on. Of course like you don't wanna know that really i mean i mean easier to replace your pan. Maybe than like changed the way that you pop popcorn but not everybody is sometimes. Ignorance is bliss. Does god yes. Nuclear popcorn cooked on the stove is a million times better times better. It's what my son it's like. He is known for his popcorn on the stove. Yeah a good thing. Yeah yeah. I love it. Yeah and i was kind briefly telling you. I had a friend who cooked popcorn on the stove. Yeah that he ended up catching himself on fire badly. How the hospital. Oh well he started with trying to warm up the oil and he put oil in the pan left the kitchen which is looking at apartments with like super far away but right down in the living room and forgot that he had started the wheel. And then the penn caught on fire in. Wow to go. Get it. And i think he put his hand on it tied to squelch it with him. Confide all god bang out on his leg leg gunfire and it was during a big snowstorm and and try to get to the hospital anyway. So if you can cook it on the stove just have with anything on the slopes yeah is moral especially if doesn't mean your heating up some hot oil it gets hot. Yeah i when i do it. I colonel in the oil and oftentimes. I don't wait to hit the whale after you don't have it in that way. The heat is starting to distribute the fire. Risk is a friend and he. Oh it was awful re there. Nobody saw him afterwards. Track pants on and then his track pants caught on fire. Oh god scary. Eve cascade horrible nece. That's a huge snowstorm. We make barely make it to the hospital. Oh so bad. And he's like burning oil and track pants everything. It's like flammable season. His sweet ninety track pan. God okay distract you. It's okay oughta so just be careful. Be careful Talk about what. How did not use a microwave in a minute okay. According to the fda millions according to the fda millions of unknown customers could be adjusting p. f. as from their microwave popcorn about ten bags of microwave popcorn a year could account for about twenty percent of the average levels now measured in the blood of us residents of us research like this. 'cause the soviet union back then when it was called the soviet union to ban microwave ovens from nineteen seventy six to nineteen ninety so the whole eighties decade. They didn't they didn't have they. Were not allowed to use microwave jenny. Craig for you now national so so i am one that does not have a microwave in my home and still my family will sometimes ask like. Are you sure my husband won't be like. Are you sure we can't have for some. it's a nonstarter. it's just a nonstarter for me. So what resonates with me as the nutritional information. I'm mostly all these decades. The decades-old research shows that microwaving food significantly reduces the nutritional value Altering the food in such a way through the microwave process lake aids in digestive disorders the chemical operations. That take place 'cause lymphatic malfunctions and people eating microwave foods show a higher than normal percentage of cancer cells in their blood. So right there that tells me like we don't know if we can protect ourselves from cancer completely but pulling the microwave out for me in my house just gives me a peace of mind that will at least dump. Doing that. one's name coming from that. It's not coming yes. Of course it's coming. Lord so i my kids have not grown up with a microwave when what will we do instead. So i was thinking of some of the typical things that are microwaved. Like reheating anything. And i literally just i re i turn on the stove and put the food in pan that i cook with in the oven and reheat it that way. It might take a little bit more time. But i make up for that in like trying to think ahead you know so instead of quickly throwing something in the microwave. I'm like okay lunches coming. I'm going to read dinner. Let me turn of a mom thirty minutes before. That's not practical for everybody. Yeah you're on a different time. Been home for five minutes. Yeah got to get it on the table but like my husband though. He works at night and comes home and we leave him play and he. This is when he wants the microwave once a year. But just feel so bad right now saying you're me anyways or reading heart night standing standing. Here's the plate of food maybe of the cheeses coagulated in the corner. Feel badly now say admitting oh man well i'm sure he's fine. He's gays. So when i was growing up i would make french fries for dinner in the oven. I sometimes with them all the way and they'd be half i and i'd be like whatever i can get used to it and we mentioned popcorn. We could it on the stove. And maybe i'll do a little cooking demo of popcorn how to make people have lost that knowledge weird but i talk about how i couldn't honestok. That's how i prefer it. Yeah and also because of the bags since about that and your friend and my friend yet. But i was just like you know i think some people like how do you even do. Lots of people like. Yeah even like what south. Yeah it's not a bad idea just to give. Yeah i love it because you can add your on like season and cinnamon popcorn. It's you can make better that you can control. It seems very sweet. You can control how you should put on like recipes seasonings when i will. Yeah well thanks for taking me on that scary journey you're welcome your turned okay Okay so. I'm talk about the nineteen eighties. Exercise fad trends out. What was going on then so exercise. The eighties in my mind is defined by three things people One would be jane fonda. Definitely course ray Jazzercise and richard simmons so All three kindly pioneers all three very difference. Okay so jane. Fonda was the pioneer in the world of home fitness and up until The of her ninety two workout video. Jane fonda workout exercise routines and regimes were designed for men overly. Oh yeah because women weren't supposed to sweat. They're not supposed to get all muscley. Women were just expected to maintain and lose weight through dieting. okay fad diets. Yeah mostly women. Did the fat diet right because they're not allowed to go work at you look sweaty and gross in feminine. Oh just maintained through cut that lasted long forever. We talked about that kind of eight all the way through glamorous all the time not anymore now gone so. The original eighteen eighty two jane fonda workout was the first non theatrical home video. Release to top sales charts. So oh okay so. This was the first one. That was non theatrical. Oh and it was the top selling vhs tape for six years. The dr Fonda accomplishment spawned imitators in sparked a boom of women's exercise classes opening the formerly male-dominated fitness industry to women and establishing these celebrity as fitness instructor. Model she kind of started that okay. jazzercise was developed in nineteen sixty nine Which i didn't know had originated that long ago. But i still kind of you. It as eighties thing. Yeah i knew growing up in the jazzercise record you did. Yeah your mom's doing here. Yeah she was doing on record so the lady who started it or established it was judy. Shepard miss it miss it And so she began she originator. She develops jazzercise because she was actually a dance instructor and she noticed she would have these dance classes and she shoes having a high dropout rate and then she started to make the connection that people really only attending because they wanted to exercise not necessarily become technically proficient in dance. Yeah so So then she kind of changed the formula so it was. She had kind of this exercise little routine in the beginning. Those set to jazz and then she just kept building on it and building on it and then it became jazzercise so fonda in miss it both saw a need and they felt it when village so call right. Yeah and so two did richardson's so most gyms and exercise regimes in the seventies eighties catered to those that were already relatively fit right of people that wanted to just maintain their level of fitness. Or perhaps just lose a few pounds. Didn't there were still unhappy with the way that they were really kind of trying to lose more so those that needed to turn outbreaks where they just said nowhere were places for people who are overweight or people who had never stepped foot into gem to go. But you know maybe they wanted to try but they had no place to go or that they would feel comfortable. Okay is it can be intimidating. You know air. You know overweight already uncomfortable. Potentially you feel and then just to go into. A place was filled with everybody who looks amazing. Yeah i mean right in combo. Amazing amazing still looks so it's an intimate it's intimidating and even if you are fit it can still be intimidating to go into an established exercise class where everybody knows everybody else and the already know the routine doctor's doing so anyway so he saw that need and he decided to fill it so many go into. How did that leader around to talk a little bit. I just about who. He is on hand his origin story as it were so he was actually born milton. Teagle simmons on july twelfth in nineteen forty eight in new orleans or new orleans as a child. He was surrounded by fried foods and pastries. I mean think about where he was right poboy Yeah and by the age of four. Excuse me four or five was starting to become overweight at eight. He was working in a candy shop and he was selling pralines like street corner or crawling. So i regret i say pralines yeah and that kind of contributed to his game too. He was just steadily as he was aging kind of putting on the pounds. His mother baked tim or cooked for him. Yeah just like a block of southern mother ryan. I mean just lots of fried food and always make sure you know. You look hungry Childhood friend even noted that His home had three refrigerators. Full feared like at all soviet new long is not not limited access to food. Yeah so as he aged. He continued to add pounds and eventually he peaked. Two hundred and sixty eight counts. I'm pretty sharpies. Only five foot five of her. Just how i am so delayed mo- hundred sixty eight pounds. Yeah so according to a nineteen eighty-one feature in the new york times simmons was working as a quote fat model in europe in nineteen sixty eight when he found a handwritten note stuck to his car in the note said fat people die young. Please don't die and it was signed anonymous. So that comes. That's sad but maybe it wasn't anonymous. Me somebody like his mom or well. He was in europe over. Maybe somebody who had worked with him. Yeah you know. But didn't wanna like tell him. Yeah so that message really rattled him yeah and he developed in disorder. Oh and what he did was. He survived on water and lettuce. That was at takao like your cabbage. Diet by liz's lead us so even imagine like iceberg lettuce so like basically water and food. Yeah yeah and he did that for two months and so he did lose a significant amount of weight but he was like suck. it was. Yes yeah it was making him ill so eventually he did recover this kind of spiral that he went him to and he developed a new philosophy. Which kind of carried him through. And it's a good fluffy it's love yourself move your body and watch your portions saw which is really the letting yourself could be hard but move your body watch abortions. Yeah yeah yeah so. He didn't actually go to college at florida. State university And after he graduated he moved to la in nineteen seventy three and it was around that time that he became. Richard simmons dropped. The milton and richard was actually the name of an uncle who had paid for his college tuition. Oh i imagine. Richard played better in. La then milton definitely. Yeah so you would think while in. La he searched for place to work out but felt none of the gyms offered him when he needed. They mainly catered to those. That were already fit So he opened his own studio because he's like oh forget it. I can't do it. My stuff and it was in beverly hills and it was called at the anatomy asylum. Crazy house an on. He'd leader renamed it slim's slim's q. Q. i wonder why he switched anatomy announced. He probably wasn't getting a lot of bookings. I would think yeah. Lemons is much yeah. Catchy cap So in a statement he made to entertainment tonight. He explained why he opened an exercise studio. He opened it as a way. This is a quote as a way to help. People make positive changes in their lives by having fun while exercising is a place to make friends. Listen to and learn from others lose weight gain confidence. These were all the reasons. I went to s- lemons to he says so. He went there for these exact same reasons to france to exercise. He's such as his place. Sweet loving personality. You know just really wants to help people so his lightly personality which we all know. Yeah from watching these commercials. Small seeing him on talk shows. I grow growing up so his personality drew large amounts of people to a studio and eventually landed him a recurring role on general hospital. Oh yeah that was One of my mom's that was that was going to. I watched it. I loved it can. Yeah she works like abc line up yet lived hospital and we could choose which one week at us which when we wanted to watch with her out of the three. Oh and we. I as joe is the best sound out i forgot. He was on that so he on. He was even in loris in. But present at luke and laura's wedding which in the eighty s that was the big mash. Yeah totally the both of the same kind of hair luke. Luke had that like we have seen early. Yeah curly hair your very much. The he was also appeared on chips. Did you watch that show now. Oh i love that. Show saturday night. Live the larry sanders show. So that's more into the nineties. I think arrested development thousands. I love that show. Whose line is it. anyway and david letterman. I love loved watching the david letterman. Show yeah in the nineties. And he was on it and he was always so funny. Yeah on it. I loved him so he used his celebrity to benefit others in create Excuse me successful. Weight loss programs produced exercise videos. That anyone could do. He rolled out his deal. A meal in one thousand nine hundred seven two over that one at all. It was a simple concept so similar to like weight watchers. Okay habit i think. It's maybe simpler counting calories so basically what it is. You have a little wallet and you would open up the billfold okra. And then on one side. You have your cards. And then on the other side of empty slots and so the cards. Each Color coded So let me read okay. Each food group was assigned card. Meats veggies dairy fats and carbs etc. Those on so when you eight from one of those food groups she would take the card out from one side and put it in the empty side into the slots on the guy and then when you were all out of cards. We're done eating for the day. Oh wow so kind of portion control. Things very like interactive system. I guess now we have the lake apps where you plug a totally which i do sometimes a custody. How many calories taking it. yeah so. it's like that. Yeah i feel as though because you know how maybe you had multiple meet parts. You knew maybe you had three. I know i would think because like i had sausage it breakfast now master. Not bad for you. But yeah i mean so in nineteen eighty eight. He started one of his most memorable fitness crazes memorable for me anyway. Sowetan to the oldies. Yeah they released on. Vhs tapes of course later converted to dvd's and still they can still be found on amazon today. Oh well cooked and there are some youtube clips on youtube as well. Yeah but i think he's more recently started to add them onto and i'll talk about that. Okay so he stayed busy through the nineties into the two thousands hosting cruises designed for weight loss teaching classes students so he's still would teach classes and they were like twelve dollars a class. Oh wow without level of air. He's still kind of so. I guess he was really getting a lot out of teaching. Yeah and he was making. I clinton personal connections with his students like he would literally be friends with the students and call them in. Check up on them and staff. Very sweet yeah. He was always willing to take pictures with fans so much. So that when celebrity tour buses would stop in front of his house and hopes for a glimpse of him he would run out and take pictures with many who wanted it and he would answer questions and he was always to me. It just sounds like it was always very much on. He was always that richard simmons personality. You know so because of this kind of fame would worked for in his personality in two thousand fourteen. When he disappeared mina literally disappeared. It was really what you're talking is apparent when he fourteen hundred fourteen. Yeah so in march of twenty fourteen. He banished from the public eye and there was much speculation as to what was really going on. There is some indication that perhaps he had hurt his knee. And despite this kind of recovering well he had heard it but he continued to work out to to each classes kind of kept up his schedule. And that actually exacerbated and made his other demand and then had to take a break but he never liked said. Hey guys injured gonna take a break you know like. He never ghosted did he. Goes to actually So then there is some thought that perhaps it was because his dog had died. Who was very close to he. Had like this I like to say an army of dalmatians. He had the eight at one point. Wow and so then. They all kind of died. And then he had the last one of that group Died after sixteen years. He had her for sixteen years so he was grieving. Maybe that's why he loved even doc so much that when he traveled he would call them and sing to them on the. Oh wow they really loved those dogs. so i So maybe that's that was why he retreated right. Another theory was Their theories that he was maybe transitioning or he was gravely ill So since all these rumors were swirling nobody understood was going on. He tried to kind of quell a bit of it by calling into good morning america but it was just a call so there's no video confirmation of what he looked like how he and his parents. Yeah so it didn't necessarily squash the rumors but at least we knew i guess people knew that okay fine. He is still alive. Is major followers really following. Yeah grieving that where. Where did we go. And so it was also in two thousand sixteen that he decided to close his beverly hills studio so the classes were still being held and people were subbing for him. What his class wise but he decided just to go ahead and close it People were hopeful that he would show up to deliver an inspirational speech as he been known to do Or just to kind of be there for the send but he didn't show up and people who attended stripped the places pictures and workout equipment and stuff like that to take home momentum. I mean they allowed. It wasn't like they were looting necessarily but he wasn't. There wasn't which you can he'd had it for forty forty years thirty. You're thirty thirty something years. I don't know matt's not my thing but a good long time. Yeah good longtime. Yeah so an excuse me in two thousand seventeen. There was an accusation of elder elder abuse leveled at simmons longtime housekeeper by former friend and a masseuse of simmons and he claimed she was holding him against his will so the lapd visited his house to perform a welfare check. They spoke to him and his housekeeper in separate rooms and determined that he was just fine he was nothing held against as well and she was doing her job. She's keeping the public away from him. Is that what he wanted. And she had been with him for many many many years even at one point referred to him her. Excuse me at his wife. Oh so so. There's to bear the area close really. Nobody else might understand. Yeah and so. She's there so somebody who maybe doesn't know him very well and only has a very brief interaction with him in her might think that maybe she's doing something the lapd is that everything is fine. And i'm pretty sure if they performed to welfare checks on him In each time. Saying he's fine. So i i did get a lot of information From a podcast. Called missing. Richard simmons which is still available to listen to is not very link upset. So it's really interesting. Yeah so on that podcast. The host interviewed richardson's brother and he denied that anything untoward was happening to simmons. He was not being held. Hostage wasn't sick. He wasn't transitioning he was just staying away. Maybe he was just explore still exhausted. Right i from. I'm doing so much of himself and he did. He just gave me got in return but also so many people were needing him. Potentially i could see where you would just kind of crack. It just couldn't keep going with that so where is he now. Yeah right so he did reemerged during the pandemic. Okay so this is after. This podcast was in two thousand seventeen. So it's peers old But he did come kind of shit. Oh a little bit of himself in the pandemic He began re releasing videos on youtube. Okay and Because i guess he was trying to do. People needed to exercise at home. You know you can't suggest yeah so he was kind of still feeling the aid. right season. eighty feels that he's also teased that he'll be releasing new licensed products. This was earlier in the year. But i haven't seen anyting. I kind of lessons march twenty twenty. This happened yes yes so earlier. In the year he said may i think he started a little bit of activity on facebook and then releasing some youtube videos and but just basically old clips so it's not new conduct and the ad that maybe he'll have some new licensed products who up but nothing. I kind of was doing some. Google search seen anything had come out and i didn't see anything could wrong. Maybe there's something out there. I dismissed it so perhaps the real reason for his retreat from the public. I came from simmons simmons himself nearly forty years ago speaking to people for a profile in november nineteen eighty-one. The fitness expert said the day. I don't love any of this. I'll walk away. Oh and maybe that's what he did. Maybe that's what he did. He just couldn't do it anymore. Yeah interesting how old is he will. He was sorry to ask you. This is the ages. He was born in forty six right six forty eight viewed sound. What would that mean cam. I need my phone. That would make him seventy two. Okay would that be right something like something like that and sixty s early seventy yeah I saw a picture that looked more. Recent and owens looks the same teams here still kinda poofy incur just looks a little more replay. He maybe he just stopped loving it. Like some yes. I'm sure it was draining emotionally to have a high to always to be giving and people sometimes when they're in that place. There's really needing a lot so maybe it just keep on doing any. Yeah who knows saying it was a big. He was a big part of my experience. Yeah heaps everywhere. Yeah eighty ray on tv and infamous records again. Like did she ever do to the older. Yeah she did yes. Oh my yeah alison. I are gonna do some sweating to the oldies are and we're going to record it and potentially put it up. We'll have something to look forward to. Maybe on our instagram and facebook. And by the way we have been living the most hellacious non school day with our kids. Columbus Day outcome bay get the day off from the teenagers don't. Yes, some do, but the pumpkin patch was not that pack. I thought everyone was out of school and it was going to be packed. No, it was good. Yeah, it was so funny though. So I was telling you I'd be going to Tanaka Vars to the Tom compatriots for, I don't know. The twins are about to be fifteen. So I'm going to tell you been going there for thirteen years. I know so many people that work there is that ridiculous and by day I know wherever the is the pumpkin patch. And do you go any other time of year or just pumpkin season? We used to go skews me. You might recognize this out. They re go because really, mommy needs juiston we used to do every season. So the they recently added like a christmassy right kind of season yet used to just beat three right was like the spring was strawberries yet, and the summertime is Mellon yet watermelons and then the fall is pumpkins. Yeah. And we would go three times a year for like the first ten years. Yeah. And then. Maybe like sopped anterior to Terry used to go in the beginning? Yeah, there you go Durfee Terry used to go in the beginning, but not in recent years. He he, he. As they do as they do. But it's funny because I was say this ju it's like, I watch you with your kids and because your oldest is my youngest age, I, I used to do all that stuff too. Like for Halloween, we used to go to four or five Halloween events right year. Right. Crazy. Like one of the country club in one at the temple and one at the orange would foundation and wanted to knock a farm like just everywhere do you? Are you still doing that? Well, we've just started the whole new thing. It's fun again because it's Parker's first time doing everything. Cheers. Cheers. Thanks for being. Oh yes, of course. Thanks for having me thirsty Thursday. We are very thirsty. It's so funny how kid things can go from super fun and totally tolerable to like. Like today today we were almost rounding up and then four tourists who did us being all of a sudden or taking off with our wheel barrel full of eight pumpkin by the way, the wheelbarrow because he was holding the baby. I wield. With my bump ankle all the way up and we would talk about my ankle. Your by the way, poor Natalie. Yes, we're so sick. She's got like the flu. We were such a mess last week in aren't going to tell you about the event. We're going to talk about all of that. But yes, these people, they tried to usurp our. Are we'll there. I finally kid events often are like, show fun, and this isn't that bad. This isn't that hot. And then at the drop of a dime could turn. I literally was like, I need a drink. I would like I need to leave all of a sudden. I'm like, I have no had on my face as frying. I've been here for three hours. All I taste is Jess and is now time to go. It was very well because it's a farm, yes, always sat at the front of the wagon tractor ride. What were we Bismarck right now, it's a big higher, but what was so funny was so it used to be like me and max Nikki in the mea maxima Mickey and then max Niki cat, and then add cocoa within the twins, dropped out. And then they're like, just get me upon gin and like, sure. And then cat said today, she's like, I think I might be too old for this. Oh, and how did that make you feel? It's funny. I mean, I think you would think I'd be like, oh, that's so sad. We've, I'm honestly, I was good. Yeah, I think. I'm good with it. Yeah, I've done it so many years that I'm ready for. You know, whatever's next. Yeah, whatever's next. Yes. I found that with CoCo not with cat, and I don't know because I kind of thought it was my last one. Right? But with cocoa I knew it was my last child rate tubes retied. Yes, we were done healthy for kids call it. Right. And so with every stage with her, I feel I really embraced it right. I enjoy even like the getting up in the middle of the night. Right eating and all that stuff. I feel like I just really, I did it. I enjoyed every moment when it was gone. Yes, it was gone. You're very good like that. You enjoy the present. You take the picture. You live in the moment. You sit on the floor and do it with them, and then you're not missed all GIC that it's over, which is great because you remember it so much better if you're not sad about it, passing what you can't control anyways. Yeah, total. You're very good like that. It's like I sat in this moment. I enjoyed this moment and now I'm ready for the. Turnoff that Bing, Bong noise bomb, but John of the Bing, Bong is still hearing us. I'm sure that's just the l. Carolina Roddy I'm I'm not good technologically so don't like to touch anything because I don't know when I touched it in the whole thing. I don't. They each other. Which would be an easy catch out. It's okay. I'm totally okay with that. It's been such aren't. So I have to tell you what's been going on and how crazy my game was, and how much I hate and love all my children. So you're saying this is good. I think we're good. It's still it's still like a brainwave on it. Should I ask Natalie here if we meant call Natalie, if we mute, didn't any call Natalie see, I don't know how to do these kinds of things. It's very scary when the minutes late. Okay, we're back. We just called Natalie who can't figure who don't speak just half the phone. I'm like, so if we turn off the Bing, Bong noises. Callisto apparently they do. Okay. So here's what happened. So last week at school at high school, they were doing a teacher appreciation thing, and they asked to volunteers to bring in scones muffins, whatever, k-. Chef, Amanda makes a the. You had. Yes. Like the best in the world ever ever. Yes. So I said, would you mind making some scones for me to bring in? I really wanted to be honest with you to put my name on them to get not that credit for me, like as if I made them, but we had brought these wonderful scones because there's really not a lot of volunteering options in high school, and I wanted to be like we are doing something, yes, because I don't know if I told you what they do trunk or treat at high school. Oh, you know what trunk or treat is issue. They do it here in our community, and everyone pulls her cars up and they opened the trunk and you'd like decorate your trunk and they go trick or treating Trump Trump. Right. So I thought this is going to be great. I'm going to go to high school. I'm going to get the escalate. I'm going to open the trunk. I'm going to have this. Cool. Thank no, they were not interested the twins in me doing this at all. Okay. And you still and you say, okay? Yeah, we'll of course. I'm not gonna. Harass them, and I appreciate it. And I'm like, okay, if you don't want me to come, you don't wanna come. But this was like anonymous, so I'm thinking, well, they wouldn't let me put my name on what they didn't. Let me I didn't ask because that would be. But anyway, so I was bringing the scones and it was a day that I was driving cat and cocoa by the way, show many of your asking me to post my laminated schedule and swear me to do it. And so I had this go into being. They're sitting there and I had them put on disposable trays so we didn't have to pick anything up. I was driving the little kids. Max had gone to swim already. Right. And I said to Nicolette, can you take the scones for me to those center westrom. Right. Which is like the main area. Okay. And he was so irritated que did why did up. This is so dumb. Why don't have to do this. This is so stupid. It's not stupid. It's for your teachers and by the way I'm asking you to do it, just do it fine. So he takes this cones and our housekeeper was driving him because I was taking cat and KoKo separate direction, same time. And then as I'm driving the little ones, he's texting me like one hundred times. I don't know where the room is. I don't know where to go. I'm going to give them to my friends. He didn't. I called him and I go, Joe. Jair give them to your friends and he's laughing at me and like, oh, calmed down. And you know when someone tells you to calm down, calm down, mom, I'm like, no, I will not come out. I went nuclear newsy wake serious or just taunting you about giving to us, right? Oh, he was being serious, totally, totally serious. You better go find that room. Oh, I was calling him names. Like you are not going here, you're not going there. It's been a ground you for month. You're not gonna go to homecoming. He's like calm down. Don't you tell on your everything I do for you and I need this and I need to go. You're right. So then finally he sound the room. Okay. So he says, by the way, I really should check up on this, but I can't imagine he'd lied to, but you never know. He brought the scones and I sign and I and Furthermore, if you because it was caterina's family birthday dinner that night. I said further and we were doing a little filming for the house tour which is starting by the way, October tons. So excited, very exciting. You can go subscribe to YouTube channel Heather's closet. I'm gonna put a link in the bio, my Instagram, or you can go to Heather Dubrow dot com and find anything there will be a link there. I hope I'm gonna make that happen anyway. So I said, we have to this little filming thing, not a big deal, and then we're going to do cats birthday. And if your not nice, you're not going anywhere. Art well, cut to the cats birthday dinner thing, and I had them film like the tiniest little things, not a big deal, just like whatever. So he was great. He was okay during the filming? Not great. He was okay. Max was okay. They were kind of teenager, but the important part, which was cats birthday dinner. Yes, they were amazing, great. Both of them, both of them, no one was on their phones. Great. Zeh were engaged. They spoke. They were so sweet to Katharina. They wrote her amazing cards, so cool. And they sat for the whole dinner and they weren't like, can we go? Can we run they jettison now? They were amazing. That's great. And then like a miracle happen. So I drove Nikki to school on Friday and Mexico's already. It's swim. So it was just the two of us in the car. Usually grunts at me, it was like a Christmas miracle. He talked to me the whole way. Nope, your air pods. No air huts talked. That's so nice. But he started the conversation and he talked to me the whole time and I was. Like a girl having a boy call me Getty, and I was trying to be cruel, you know, in a car. Over talking? No, no, no. I was trying not to be too overeager. He's talking. I was responding trying to engage, but not be monosylabic and not like over ask or over. I answer, oh, I was trying to be very cool. Nonchalant. It's a lot of work. I was very tired when he got out of the it was so happy and it was Friday, and I thought I want no one else to call me today because I'm good. Yes, this is great. A boy likes me and it's. How sweet do you think that it was all your threats? And do you think that him seeing you have a nuclear moment made him or he was just happy, and I would love to say that that's the story, but I had to be one hundred percent honest. Yeah. He did really well on his biota. Okay. And he needed to write and sometimes he lacks confidence when he's such a smart kid. Right? But look, unfortunately, he's not like max for max school is very easy for MAC. Right? And even though she has to work at certain things, she's just that catch more like Terry. He's more like me. He's Mark, but he's got to work at it. Right. And I think sometimes I don't know, but I would assume watching your twin sister frustrating. Right? But he is so smart and when he actually does the work, he gets the grades and he got an a on his bio TASR. Awesome. And it was a big deal, and I think he was so happy about it said he was just in a good road, just happy and confident. Yeah, I don't think you here is that all about the rant right about this. Right, but I don't care. 'cause he talked to me, that's right away what a win. I'm so happy. Call dairy afterwards. Tearing ever answers his own for once. He guess what. Mickey talk to me the whole way car is a no. That's great. That's and he had a good response like this is a Christmas miracle. He was so nice. That's so funny. See, what's so interesting for you is that so Parker is like a little over a year old and when does birthday June second, he's he's like a year. Yeah. They, there's nothing like the way a boy loves his mom. I mean, it's like the greatest hugs they give you an crisis, and I think we should them a little bit more because we know at some point right there leaving us right. I still have an accepted that we don't have to 'cause he's only sixteen months old. She by the way. Okay. But you haven't really accepted it? No, I hit my girlfriend juries to say, I just hopefully marry orphans. Boys ended up marrying very lovely girls. So not orphans by the way, but no, you just want there to be happy, of course. But let's be honest. It goes with the girl's family when you're in a heterosexual relationship because the girl's family. So you know, I do think about those things anyway. So he talked to me in the car, which was great, and then it was the Katharina birthday extravaganza weekend. Right? So we took every night Thursday night was the family night Friday night was the bending HANA, extravaganza and Sunday was reporting. So let me take. So we go to bending HANA. Yeah. How how many years have you been going on forever forever. We've been going like literally thirteen years. I think since the twins were two years old. So we went through a period of time where Nikki's to have this weird aghast response to Benny honner and he loves, he loved it so much that he would like eat the soup and be in the bathroom, the entire type which meant I was in the bathroom the entire time. And after a few years I had call it and then he stopped eating the soup. We've been like. Back and forth with Benny hana's. Okay. But we used to go a lot in the last few years. You've only been a couple of times because you notice they put the calories. No, I'm HANA. They do. How do you feel like restaurants go in and out of that? Is that a law? Is it not a law? I think that thing is, is that when you have it's over a certain amount of restaurants in your chain, you have to put the calories. And I don't know if that's just a California thing, but I was surprised how decent calories were really. Yeah, I think that you know the fried rice, they do their, it's like four hundred twenty calories it whole portion. Yeah, that's awesome. That's wouldn't you expect it to be like fifteen hundred calories? Here's the thing though. When you go to any HANA part of it's the food and part of it's the show and it's mostly the show, right? Our chef sucked. They have. They do. It went through a period of time where I wanted to open one after it went to a couple of on it. I was like, everyone loves it for a birthday thing. I'm opening one. I bet you know how these ideas and a week. Yeah, I was like Iran spectrum. I, the thing this I'm going to be the biggest remember when we went to Turks and k goes, and we had the best. It was like it was like a Ben Honda, but rock and roll and they the played music fun. It was fun. Awesome. They dress up or do different things. And then of course, I squashed that idea because listen, what do I know about running restaurant a pack every night because they're pack no matter what every night. So I feel like they don't have to be great anymore. I feel like they're not. They're just not, you know what sucks about it is that art? So it's cats birthday and we're sitting how the tables face each other. Right? So we're watching this other table and the guy is a made good one, and he's putting on the best show ever and the guy that's is a young guy right standing on our table and. Okay. Again, we've been going for how many years I could do to show myself at this point and he didn't do anything they'd do the. He didn't put the shrimp in that really didn't do a volcano. He didn't do any possible. I mean, that's the point I now. And so at the end I said to the server, I'm like when he was done cooking, I have to tell you that was the lamest show ever. He did nothing. It was. Oh, sorry, I'll let the manager now. So what are you supposed to do in that moment? Because it's over right. And you can't switch chefs. In the middle of the show. Right. I mean, what do you do? What would you do? Let it go. Right. You have to because what are you gonna do have someone else come and do it again? No, because they've already eaten that voting thing, but I felt so bad for because that's all she wanted to do is go to bed him too. And I saw her looking over the other table being like, why? Right? And actually it wasn't even cat that noticed it was cocoa because I think that was just happy to be there with her friends because it's birthday cocoa is like, why aren't they doing the volcano, right. Why aren't they doing the in? Why aren't they doing the heartbeat? Right. And I think in that moment it's hard to know win to fight and win just to accept it is what it is. You know, sometimes in those situations, though, if I could tell there something that they've talked about, I would find a manager in a, hey, we didn't get this this, and this. Can you have someone come out and do those things? Yeah, it wasn't that bad. It wasn't that, but it was that that cat didn't care God it. It was her birthday. She shared said yen. You would have gone and said, hey, listen, it at least. Could someone come out here and do these couple of things throw the. Shrimp. So what I've heard from people that own restaurants as they say the worst kind of customers because the don't say anything because they just don't come back. Right. But I think the problem with bending on is that everyone loves it so much impact every night. They they don't care at all. No one time we the baby was just born and I made a reservation and I didn't realize because literally the baby was just born that I needed to have a reservation for the baby and they were packed. It was like a Friday night, had reservations a long time and they turned us away completely all ten of us because I actually had a lead it and they're like, I don't even put them on my body, but for some reason, they're so busy. They don't care. I was like, this is insane. Wow, s because we had a baby, they said it counts as a person. You didn't make enough reservation. So we either have to like, you know, set one person in the bar or go somewhere else that is any went somewhere else. Morale's how she didn't? Yeah, where the kids upset? Yes. But then at that point I was like, we just got a call it. I mean, I can only argue with the guy for so much explaining the baby should not count as a person, but I feel like it's the same way about the show, like they're busy every night. They know resume. Our full. It's just so I just thought it was lame. Yeah, so I don't like that. Benny Hano. Yeah, I have to say like, especially if you know it's birthday, right? It's the good guy out there. Right? Gives them energy in your brain a whole crew. It's not like it's, you know, super expensive, but it's not cheap by that. Everybody I knew is extend was it. I mean, I didn't pay this Bill Terry pay, but I paid the Bill before. It's not inexpensive, right? It's not fast food, right? It's it's pricey. I want to start having a cocktail for sure. Issue brought friends. You fill up the whole. It's a lot of people to a lot of. Sure. I just feel like I don't know it's part of your deal. You should always give one hundred percent, one hundred percent. Where else is there? Like the fund birthday showing that we've taken them in l. a. we've taken them to what's the name of the place that we go with the cotton up Barton g s so Borden Jesus, so fun and I've talked about it before they bring the popcorn chicken. They put it actually in a popcorn machine yet us corn. The everything is like a theme. Theme and it's fun and yes. What? Why are there not more places? There's nothing like that. That's why everyone has been on it. It's only somewhat fun birthday that kind of inexperienced and experience was in York has so many funneled lease buy, but l. a. doesn't. I mean, I can't think of many other places other than jeez and Benny hana's I've ever been to lay oak. No. Do you like Korean barbecue in love, Korean, barbecue the there's one in LA. I don't think there's one down here. There's one in LA and the only thing is you have to cook it yourself. Okay. But the on the ground, very emphasis food is spectacular. Do smell I get after. Is it like Benny hana's ish. Not as bad. Okay. Because when you go to bed hungry, you basically have to burn all your you sound like Benny Hoff. I'm you just you weren't or you're wearing the stuff that can go in the washer and dryer right. Not the hanged draw out? No, no. So Natalie poor little Natalie who's so sick, you Natalie love you, Natalie miss you, my girl, so she got his tickets through Lido house to go to the Veuve Clicquot polo classic. Yes, that we thought was in Malibu, but it was actually in the Palisades which we better because it wasn't so far right. And the day before I rolled my ankle, you broke your toe and Natalie got the flu. Our group text, you should see our group Tech's was hilarious, hilarious. I mean, my right ankle is so swollen. I look like I've elephant dyers and Lindsay's tow is tied taped together to the next and it's black black with sparkly pink nail polish on it. It's so funny in the Natalie got the flu, and then now I got the flu and I was like, Goeller. She was at the house. I was going my closet. I've tamiflu just take ten of them yourselves fine. You can't miss you move of it by the way, how gorgeous was it? It was gorgeous against the hill, and the weather was perfect. Nice breeze. It was degraded, horrid. His. Colo player Nacho? I didn't. Then I didn't. There AB did it was so fun running around. I couldn't tell him versus other. No one's on could tell because at the end they were shaking hands with everyone. And I looked over and I go my God who's that? Antares like that's not Joe. You know. So that's a Terry? Yes. Well, have you seen him? He's laying on dark hair, and I think he's blue is a great tells what I hope he does, whereas standing far away and he just he's so gorgeous so gorgeous, I love it. You would say that Terry, who's to these naked women every day, really. I cannot go points. She ate the specimen good point anyway. So this whole event, and we're going to post pictures, but it was so gorgeous. It was like it was as if it was set up for a party with these beautiful linens and the chairs not folding chairs, like restoration, hardware, joys to linen and wood, and all mismatched. And you could buy merch and they end you'd get this little ticket and they would give you a buffalo of Rosetta, the cutest pink holder pink in orange. I got you an extra ones, right? We know and then the little orange glasses and read so many friends, but what was so crazy was later when we were driving home, I saw so many of my girlfriend. Yeah, posting photos from them, like texting them, you were there totally. How did we miss everyone? But then again, after whatever sixty percent of it, I didn't see you again. The rest of it was just so big. I think it was so big. The cell service was spotty. Yeah, but you're right. There's only one way in one way out how did we miss so many people? How much polo did you actually watch a lot of polo you Ted, maybe that's why I didn't see you towards e. Yeah, I didn't. I was like, I need to. I want to watch it because I always feel, you know, I would will Lakers game last week and then afterwards I was like, that was so great. They went crazy. Oh, it's preseason anyways, who cares? I was like, what? It doesn't tally knowing things later, it feels like I'm watching polo and yes. Do you didn't watch much of it? I did not watch that much. I have to say that we ran into a lot of people that watch our shows you. You're a fan bombarded, but you know what was ever was so lovely, and we let so many nice people and and as people kept drinking, like even as it goes. Later, say in the end, it we, we let we screwed it out before you guys because it's when people were drinking lot. That was getting a little crazy. But at the beginning in the middle, we met so many lovely people. We met scowl that actually works for the that knows Dominy. We met at the Lido house dinner and she's going to us up for our trip. So only go to champagne in June. So I'm so excited about that. And we met one of the guys who's putting together the new Bram stadium and and oh, and I met this gal who is making which she texted me. I have to read this to you because it's really the coolest thing air. Yeah, I met her there. One of the girls that came up to you? Yes. I need to tell you about this. You are so sweet to be to take pictures of everyone and because of course you know, of course you're sweet like that anyways, but you're also there with your friends and your husband at your pulled tender actions. It's nice of you to take so much time to talk with everyone. Well, you know what? Just like so sweet. I, you know what? I can't. Oh, because I switched phones, but it'd be gone. You told me the update, did the switchover Mary as happened. But anyway, the point being that l. find out the name makes these little covers that you put over your glass so that Dirk doesn't get in there like a bog or anything like that or Ruthie. Right? Yeah, I'm gonna find out the name of it, but she was horrible anyway. So we ended up meeting many, many people. Right? So many people that listen to the podcast. Thank you, and it was so nice meeting all of you and wasn't fun. Just to be like in this note, reminded me of it reminded me of being an Aspen. Yup, in, I mean, obviously different climate, but when you're sitting in aspirin in the snow is falling in half, they have the beautiful little orange of clico glasses, and there's DJ playing and it's like the air was crisp. Everyone was happy and it was so beautifully dress. Everyone was fancy very fancy. Yeah. I want to go next year. I know we have to ask me annual thing. Absolutely. Annual did you did you seem Natalie's pun. Ones? Yes to so season. So clever. The poor thing was so sick. She was wearing glasses yet. I had a chunk he'll on you were buddy taped together was so funny. Yeah. But what are you to happen? I just loved the event. I just thought it was a mazing. Yeah, it was really well done all every detail. They really did a great job of having fun decor items that, of course, everyone used as Instagram backdrops, but it made it funded. There were so many different areas that almost felt like a different experience. You know, like the big flower arches and there would be cool. You know, like a green walls, I grasp Ivy walls and then they'd be like, big, pink mirrors. Just, you know yet they made it a very Instagram -able event which obviously they want to do. So it's, you know, it trends total, and it was also such a pretty environment of felt like you were at a a wedding, right? Dreidel shower or something. I don't know just throwing legit unless being events that and they did a good job with with controlling. Like the rent, never lines to get drainings or thing. Was good except for the wind for the merch which was slightly painful, but everything else, I felt like they did a good job. Sometimes you pay a good amount for these tickets, and then there's lines to get everything, but it was only do you think it was worth the money over? Sure. What are we? What? How much the tickets was under five hundred a person. So it's under five hundred percent. And what did you get? You get a bottle of youth and then a boxed lunch, which I didn't really eat the boss lunch. I think that they should have done like that's my own. The only thing that I would change it could have been better. I would have liked to see some past germs and send somebody off. The kind of just gave you a boxed meal, which friends had said that it was a good, so I didn't even try kettle chips in. That's it. I kettle chips to and only thing is the shuttle. The shuttle was so painful. You guys got out of the shuttle on the way back, but it just never understand why they can't. And I understand it's up on the hill, but those only thing do things. I would change the the shuttle's situation and the food's the disease. I actually thought the shuttle was fine, right? Yes. When I've liked to been dropped off, yes, but I didn't mind it because it worked very quickly right. Had we had to wait. It on a line. Right? Wouldn't like that. But you got dropped off in a special area on right, or you parked and then shuttle took you right up to the event and drop to you needed to go. I thought that was okay because you didn't have sake the bus home with the drunk people. Oh, was that bad? Well, you don't weird is in my old age. I feel like I feel I feel it sends a bad situation much sooner than I normally would. So we pile into a boss everyone sitting and we have like, I think all the buses were rowdy, right? Like everyone's been drinking for six hours and the someone gets the Mike someone singing on the Mike. And I see the driver who's probably, you know, seventy getting like frustrated rights. He's not impressed. He's getting frustrated and he gets out. So now we have no driver in everyone's like yelling on the Mike. Right? And so then he that I could see the driver getting heated. He's talking to someone else and he's like, I'm out of here. So my great. We're going to have literally no driver in there. There's not that there's extra drivers, so then I went out and like, what's the problem like. Let me just try to here and then he's like, they took my Mike. I'm not okay with that. And like if I go unscrew the Mike, will you please drive the shuttle? He's like, no, no, no. And then I go inside and like we all be calm. I feel like I've sobered up instantly because now we have a show that still Auteuil and no driver he's refusing to drive and there's no extra driver. I mean, like I was the bus. I mean, we could get out, but now there's a whole lines. I mean, just a mess. Right? So then I'm like, I literally go, quiet everyone down. I unscrew the mic the whole wall chain, and I go and I give him his mic on my. Here's your mic. No one can talk on your phone. Will you please drive down the hill? And then he drove us down the hill but was very angry about it. But it was one of those things where we've everyone Mattie us. Well, I don't if they were just mad like, what? Why are we stopping? You know, like one of those things where I'm just like, oh man, this is just bad all the way around it just wanna get out of here and I didn't know if I didn't. If they're mad at me, I didn't even really care. I was just kind of like you guys are going to be quiet. He's got an start driving. That's just the bottom line. So it was one of those things at the end of the night. Like that's the last thing. You know what I mean? Yeah, he's. People started getting rowdy and a bus like no one was like, I don't like when adults do stuff like that when we were at the eagles concert with the twins. So we're sitting there and the people behind us had a another couple visit them in their seats. They weren't their seats. They came to visit them right because then they left. And Nikki told me later, he heard them say that. And this couple was sitting behind us while Zac Brown was playing k. and clearly they were there for the eagles. I don't know that the guy news act Brown, right? But he starts going. He was like saying things like, oh, do you smell that? I need some of that my glaucoma, glaucoma, like being funny as if someone smoking pot because people used to smoke pot for glaucoma or whatever. But like too loud and right yelling, we'll guy singing, and I so wanted to turn on and be like, shut up, totally. But you don't want to start something the guy's already drawn and those weren't even their seats. Right? So finally they left. Yeah, it's hard to know when to step in and I feel like now I worry, you know before it's even a something, but I don't know anytime you're in an enclosed space, people start getting rowdy. I feel like I'm doing something then or get out of the situation rather than just like sit and let it escalate and get worse. So next year I want it was such a long drive up. Right? I felt like exhausted by the time we got there right next year. I wanna like go up the night before. Have dinner day. Stay wake up, fresh Pontiac. All right. So we draw. We went all the way to driver. We drank a lot. Thank God. They had the riche for Terry, right? Yeah, he was happy with you loved. So we got home and to watch fight. So we had like just like quick little dinner and we went downstairs in the movie theater, watch fight and cocaine to sit with us. So coca sit with us, she's can. I sit in the champion, of course. So she's sitting with me in because she does taekwondo like it doesn't bug her, right. I mean, the blood is weird, but she's I dunno, she's not freaked out by it at all right. And so we did you watch the fight just talking about this just the clip. It's not just I didn't see the live real time. No, no. Just give us. We had dinner. Like on the way as we dropped off friends, we went home. You dinner with him? Yes. That fish would die may have you have fishing with dynamite in Manhattan beach, right by the beach is kind of like a Nobu. Very small, just a couple of tables. Very, Greg, didn't watch the fight? No. Was he pets? No. 'cause he watched it like whatever summary online lie. I don't know if you watch it live. I. Yeah, okay. You watch whole thing life. Oh, yeah. We watched the whole thing live cash. So we we watched some of the under cards because they were girls fighting wanna at home in time for that. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah. So we eight, we watch somebody under cards and then came and joined us in the theater for the main event sushi sitting with Manji goes something something, something candy, corn and go. Which say, candy, corn, hook, she's like, oh, yeah, because Victoria took me to blah, blah, blah. And we got some candy corn state while we were at the thing and I'm like show is there can like, oh yeah, cooking. So she runs against it comes back and we watch whole fight and guess who eats all the candy corn you? That'd be me. We watch a little fight net. Did you watch what happened at the end of the Feis. All right. So you do you know the back story of the fight. Oh, all right. So what happened basically in a nutshell, is that Connor and could be like hate each other, and there was an incident, was it like a year ago year and a half ago, we're Connor took like a Dolly and threw it in the window of kebabs bus injuring, like two people. Oh, start his huge hate thing, gotten a whole deal. And so they've been like at odds and so they have this fight planned the crap talk each other and counter. Let's part of his thing. Right. And let's face it. It's what sells tickets, hone and builds up the by the whole thing. So they. Do the fight and the odds were totally against Connor, right? And the they do the fight and could be chokes him out in the third round, which I thought it was good fight. I have to say, and I only got into mixed martial arts because Terry used to love it and still does. I thought he did great. It was really good fight. So he doesn't rear naked choke thing on he taps out which taps twice and fights over right. Could be stands up climbs out of the octagon and goes and attacks one of Connor's trainers in the audience. Okay. Who's obviously been like? We yelling something to Connors, one of his corner guys, right? Was in the audience sought it yelling stuff could be probably because that's what they do to leave. The right could be jumps out of the octagon. Right, right after right after the other guy taps out, yes. Instantly instantly k. doesn't say gay me. Nothing jumps out of the gun and goes beat sack up at the same time to of be guys jump into the octagon and start hitting. Conor and Connors just been joked out the guy's not even like half conscious and they're hitting him. So they arrested those guys. Really the two guys, two guys that jump Connor and what I've heard now. So I don't know if anything's going to change between now when you guys listen to this, right? He didn't press charges, how which I think is great, but you know, it sucks is that it was a good fight and it's not good for the sport. Right to have that happen, right. So you had to keep the fighting in the ring, but then Craig says they didn't give him the built, didn't give them the belt. Dana white was like, you got to get out of your. He was. He said, if I handed the belt, the crowds gonna go insane. You gotta get out of here right now. The question is this suspend him right will ever get the belt, right? I mean, he just blew it right. You don't do that and you just one toe celebrated shake hands. And what I hope Connor does is I don't the comes out and says, Corzine press charges. We've all been to heated. This fight stays in the octagon Renat. That's what I hope happens. Interesting. Hopefully he's got a good crisis PR goon. Right. You just can't lose your cool. No, but it's hard to say because when you're so passionate about this and I think is at terrible things about religion and is you know where he's from and all, you know, all this kind of stuff. And so it's deeply. I think it's deported. I think there's a lot more kind of being a little surfacing about this, but right, it's probably easier for us to be like big sport, right, shake hands. Everyone gets a trophy rights agreed. Who is a good. It was a good anyway. I ate all the candy corn, and I got so sick and not to be too my. But here I am with my swollen hideous Angola wake up on the thing and all of a sudden I am OB. Do you want that means? Oh, out both ends. I mean, no, no, no. No way. No, I was from the candy corn. It must hidden when. Mix. I don't know is no. No, it was violent. It was like food poisoning. It was so bad. Oh my God. It was so bad terrible way to end such a fabulous. I, of course, Terry goes, are you little happy? Do you feel like to feel like your stomach's, let it might know Israel goods? Awful. Pluto? And of course I took a few days off the Jim because of my poor little England has you haven't been doing fitness with tone arms? I put the put the foot up and to arm so good. I do about teary box you. She's like, maybe you should take time off your ankle. Then he sent me pictures with Pahara and Marissa from the gym, you're going some of us workout. He's such a douche when he does that, but it's funny makes you. And then so we did cats hardy on Sunday, her little wizard of Oz theater. Party, which was super cute should a great time and then went out to dinner. All right. So you tell me, okay, here we go. Now, this is since been resolved, but I'm just going to throw it out there. Here's a little moment. I was talking to a mom at the party who I really like, but she was like, we're talking about how many people you know have gotten divorced and that kind of thing. Choose her husband and how they are and how they relate to each other. And she's like, you and Terry seem really good. I'm like, we are every time I say something nice about us. You can always get into a fight. Why does that happen? I don't know. He just can't put up there if someone says you guys are really. Yeah, you know, material up and down ebbs applause. You know goes, he's do. I don't maybe make people think it's terrible. It's not because then you don't fight. So we went to, we were going to go two years with all the kids, but one by one, each one drops out. Okay. And access to be up at five, amber swim Uquillas. This casuarinas exhausted from party wants to go home and FaceTime over friends and John Rutter presence, whatever you. So it's me interior and Chris, the other and coca. Okay. That's just the porpoise by the way, last man standing. Yes, Cocos. So funny. She says. To Terry sacked about you. You have a crush on yourself and he goes home. She was meaning you're a fan of yourself, like as if he didn't understand. Right. So funny quip over the explain it. She's so funny anyway. So we go to dinner and we're sitting there at out and so I had to drop everyone off. I dropped Terry and Chris at the restaurant took the other kids home. He unloaded everything from the party and put everything away, and then went back with me and Cody join them. Okay. Was there a drink for be on the table? No. There was not. So he had already had a drink, and so I get into the booth with him and we're sitting there and he was like, one drink in. So really like in a very good mode and starts kissing me in three. Sweet. He's like, I love you too casino at your. My everything. Sweet is associate, and I'm thinking now shut up now saying nothing more now don't say anything else. It's like Nikki talk to me just no-one no-one. Everyone should who said you're my everything. I love you because we've been really excited about going to New York first of all, because I think we both need a break and second of all, because we're very, very excited about the book yet. We're really excited about this book tone. I think out of all of our collapse the other book or podcast or skin care line like everything. For some reason, this is like a baby to us. We just feel like we're bringing something to everyone that's so useful and people are just gonna love. So we're really excited about the launch of the book, do bro diet. And then. Wondering Glaister. He starts saying to chrisny, you just tell me how you'd feel about this standing starts talking about his Instagram feed. Okay. You know, when you go to that section that shows you basically things that you search for. Right. What does it show you is that you're like discover shop now? Fitness, healthy food and baby stuff. Right. Okay. Mine is a lot of fashion. Yup. Make up yet housewives. Yeah, reality television and celebrity k. Terry starts going. Mine is all cats. And football. Okay. Which is random. Okay. Because he doesn't watch football, right? Right. So he starts talking about cats, cats cats. Okay. And then he's talking about football and he goes, he knew would Heather does for me. That's so amazing because you know what's cool about a quarterback. He started talking about quarterbacks, Tom Brady, and like how teams handle quarterbacks. I is like they take everything else off the plate for them so they can be the best. They can possibly be like, they don't have to worry about food. They don't have. They make sure they have everything. They need food wise like they don't eat. They don't have to worry about where they're living is just everything's like handled, right? They don't have to worry about their trainer. Everything scheduled the charges, the p. t. like whatever it is they need, it became. It's just they are handled handed so that they can be best they can be. Yes. And he starts launching into this whole thing about me and how that's what I am for him and how I handle every element of his life. He can. In be him right. I think that's a huge compliment. You do. Right? Did it rub you wrong dead because but listen, he doesn't have to think about anything. No, it was super nice, but there was an element and look. I know I can get overly sensitive sometimes and maybe it's because I've got the big birthday looming, but you do think about things and he was like this a few weeks ago, so I'm sure you can understand it, but you'd think about things that you've done right in your life and you think about things that you have not accomplished. Right. And I don't believe it's ever too late to accomplish those things. So I'm not in that space or anything. But what I'm saying is it was a little like your the woman behind the man. Diedhiou does that resonate with you at all? And by the way I love doing for him, it makes me happy to do this. I never think I'm going to do this for you so that you'll do something for me. I do it because I want to do it. And in one way I love the fact that he recognized said I do that, but I don't know. There was a piece of me that felt like I wanted to vomit a little bit. Right. And I know it wasn't just me because interior went to the bathroom, and Chris looked at me and goes, you know, he doesn't mean it like that. So if that was his reaction to the way he says it right there was there was an element of like my purpose right is to do this for him. And that's my only purpose. I think that's probably how you interpret it. We'll Chris interpreted it the same way. Well, yes. I mean, I didn't say anything to Chris. I didn't even give him a long to give them a matter of fact. While Terry was saying Chris actually interjected and said, well. Well, she also and like tried to interject a few of my credits if you will. Right. Thanks, Chris. Yeah, that was like puzzles me sought, right. I mean that Terry feel so lucky that he doesn't have to think about any of the any of the minutia doesn't totally. But there is an element of narcissism that goes along with this, that it is all about him, and I mentally had to say to myself, like don't make a comment like will if that's true, then you know what I mean, right? But although he knew what he did say that I also thought was good. He's it's funny. I don't know why it took his sixtieth birthday to become this way right, but and I do appreciate him saying that. But I also had a moment of, I'm being on it. I had a moment of life for sure. I would feel the same from the outside. I only knowing him I only see the compliment side just because he's so grateful that you support him in every way. He's not. He's not thinking of it. He's only thinking about it in how it involves him, not you as a whole. That's a whole different. Thing, right? But of Craig, gave you a speech about how you're the woman behind the man's, for sure. When there'd be a piece that he's felt like, wow, is that all I am? It's it's very hard for sure for sure right issue with that old. And and I think especially when we talk about and I think especially with with, I won't even just say women like people Ryan give up so much throw their partners in for their kids and their families and their lifestyle and young you want to be valued at, but there is a piece you that feels like. Right, right. Does that or does that by the way, if you don't agree with you going to? I think knowing Terry, I think he meant it in for him the highest possible compliment you provide everything that he could need and makes him happy. I feel like he was saying as a reflection of what you give to him, I agree, but being a strong woman who's accomplished and do all these things and feel like you are the woman behind the man doing all these things is very crazy concept to it's Roger wrap your brain, right, for sure. And in the in the way that you give up so much sacrifice for your kids, you also have to sacrifice so much when his schedule is crazy all over the place because there's nobody who boasts could be doing all these things. Right, right. Well, I mean, that's why I mean, we were talking about on Dr MRs Guinea pig, like on Saturday, I got so many people telling me you have to go to homecoming, don't go to New York day or programming, and I said a couple of weeks roaming. Totally right. Right max needs me right on. So she didn't really care before now. She does. Okay. So I never actually made the plans go to New York. I was just thinking, why don't I go? That was totally right. That's why I love talking about things on the show. Right. But he's off on g four right with Bob and Mike and all these guys going to this charity thing right in Zona wherever they were going, and I'm home doing rights to homecoming. Yep, giving giving, but I wanna be there for that. I wouldn't wanna be on the plane right yet. No, I wouldn't feel so Phil. You wouldn't feel happy being somewhere else? No, I honestly would it right. So why is it? Is this a man woman thing in my life would say here missing the homecoming thing? No, like if the kids were okay, like the kids out? Yeah. No, like he doesn't need to see it. Tears thing is like their freshman, right. This isn't a big deal when they're juniors and seniors. It's like a big deal. This is beginning stuff right? I had l. but I. I think I think mostly it's a man woman thing like Anna's mobs, we don't want to miss it whether it's freshman year senior year. Yeah, no, you don't wanna miss those things and still trying to figure out how I'm gonna. See both. 'cause the last time I talked to you, you were going to do max and he was going to Nikki, right? So that's happening because he's so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna call Nicky's dates, mom and racy. 'cause they're, we're got a room at the Ritz Carlton. Okay. For maximum friends to get ready at have the makeup artist coming there and startled, so they'll get ready together and then we get to be part of it with them. And yeah, they'll to and the boys are gonna come there and they're gonna have dinner there. Take pictures and then go, right because it's close. It's like ten minutes away. Smart from the explosive event, closest school plus aware. A lot of people live our houses like twenty five minutes away and it didn't make sense. I do it at my house which I would've loved to have done this. This worked out really nicely. Right? So I'm hoping that Nikki's dates mom will drive them to the hotel because it's on the way to the school and let them take pictures together, fun. But it was like, I was like, should I get you flatten, you guys flower? Because half of them don't have dates. They're kind of going as a group like, no, don't feel like don't get it anyway, just in case, maybe just in case things because sometimes they say no. And then if you just have it like, oh yeah, yeah, let's do that. You know when when she says no, and if you kind of do something or have something that is, she's like, I told, you know. That's never happened before the only going to acquaint it too. Is that for graduation? I got her a leg. Because at Nikki school they gave them flowers and at her school they didn't. But I know a lot of kids in California they get lays for graduation. Right? So I bought it and I thought I'll give it to her after. Right. And while we were walking in for the graduation, she texted me and said, she said, did you get away? And I said, yeah, I have you. Ted McCall, can I have it now because they were all wearing them crazy the ceremony, right? And I was like, Phew, thank goodness. I got the learning. Can you imagine if I had just gotten regular flowers rhino flowers in as a mom, it's they text you that you wanna be able to say, yes, especially on a big day in their nervous, but that's what is gone was thinking to myself, you know, she a bunch of the girls don't have dates would if I got them all. Yeah, on Serge's Superfund just like that. But I don't know if she's going to be mad on what? No, it's hard to say. I asked her and she said, no. So then what do you do? You go against their wishes, right. Could you ever ask her again, like show I will pictures and say, hey, of. Thinking about getting him for everyone. I will another us. Yeah, I'm gonna take Maxon Icke shopping tomorrow night because she needs shoes. He has nothing. He's grown out of everything. And then you have such a busy week. This is your only window of time, right? I ever gonna hack calzone into this week. It's insane. So I'm going to be back at e news, right? Wednesday, right, and another this will I think that will have aired by the time when you have on. Yeah, but we're recording on Monday. Is it Monday? Today's Monday is when. And so tomorrow I'm taking them shopping Wednesday to be up in LA and then Thursday, we're doing family pictures, family pictures in two years. You need it to doing it for holiday or just, I don't sit holiday cards. Yeah. Is that weird now? It's weird. I'm kind of over to. I haven't done it. I did it once ever. Really? Yeah. I posted on my love roundabout. You, you know, I don't care if everyone else does it. You don't feel like it. So what we used to have this tradition where ever ear we would, I would take everyone's Christmas cards. Hellenic cards are and put them in a stack. And then on Christmas day after we opened presents always make biscuits and eggs and bacon whenever and we go through them, we pass them around and we talk about France. Yeah. Is this person grade? Oh, this is so fun. That's my best friend look how they aren't. So we used to do that. But I noticed in the last two years, we've been very. Like involved in each other will last year. Remember Christmas was no point, so that wasn't a good moment to do that. But we did it the year before. I think maybe willing to do it last year because of that. I don't know. Maybe we'll do it again this year. Like you get less cards, like less people are doing it. I think people do it. Yes, everyone's on social media when season. I think everyone posts them, right. I think that sending out cards is very expensive and stamps are expensive yards. I do like them. I think it's very pretty. I mean, I miss invitation, you and I, I've always been such invitation people that are you still doing well, I've realized that you have to do the online for the RSVP's and stuff like that. So what I have done the last couple of times, I guess it was only the very last party I gave in to do the paperless post or the fight or one of those. But I also did like a real one to like a real limitation. Yeah, it was. I can't remember when I called it. I want to say it was like six years ago, and I got to the point where I said, you know, what is the only way to manage our SEP's? It didn't and to find everyone's addresses and some people don't like mail coming to their house or they don't get it and then you don't know. And then they didn't receive the invite retinas. Like, why wasn't I invited in the party's already happened, but it's mostly the RSVP because people are so bad at doing the RSVP that unless they can just click on languidly they don't always be pay, and then you have to go chase everyone. And then what was the point of that? Totally. And honestly, when I get a birthday party invitation for one of the kids, I take the invitation, I. Put it the information, my phone and I throw it west true because otherwise I know it's only the old days where you put on the bulletin board and you'd look at it, whatever. Right, right anyone night and just so you know, my husband, yes. Just texted me and sent me a picture of a wallet. Dangle dapper not kidding. Will you order me? Dang, dapper e. d. c. wallet. Really? He goes. Can you order this for me? So by the way he doesn't even like a wallet is that so where will he see this? Don't know, but he wanted in black. How does he know comes in black? Where does he see the wallet or at sixty? Nine dollars dangle dapper e DC while jet black. Oh, it's very cool though. Done. So let's see what it is is this you allowing him to be the quarterback today. Apparently the DO one. Deborah while it was designed for the sophisticated individual with an edge clean lines, contrasting materials, blah, blah, blah. Okay.
