New Apple event and iOS 14

"So Apple Event Week one of possibly two or three this fall. Who now this one I think might be most relevant to us though. Probably, it was definitely a pretty substantial like. Sort of changing my plans or like was pretty significant turnaround and I mean, it's it's weird too that we don't really know what else is going to be coming and it was strange to the first event wasn't an iphone event If if depend if you're not listen to this in real time, this was the time flies event where applejack talk introduced The new apple watches their fitness system and the new ipads an apple one. I, suppose the sort of like main things they announced and. Yeah it was. It was kind of a weird weird event. Video just like WGC was and. We got a whole line of new stuff and a whole lot of I suppose as on theme for Twenty. Twenty some unprecedented Changes in the way apple rolls things out. Yeah this is So you know in addition to just you know it being an event where there's no actual in person event those changes the biggest difference for developers is that we got a lot less time than we usually do with the GM SDK and GM. Before released, they announced her enduring the event yesterday that Iowa's fourteen and watch fourteen. We'll be coming out tomorrow, which is today. So we had about twenty four hours of notice and twenty four hours with the official. S. K and twenty four hours roughly to like build test and submit to the APP store. Any anything that uses the new decay. So it's been quite a rush. That certainly is not the ideal sketch for for anything. I don't know why did it this way but I do know it's hardware but. I'm disappointed that this way, but you know for me honestly, this doesn't affect me at all because of where I am in my development and I'll get to that in a little bit How how much? I know you had a very different story here how much did it affect you? I it's so going into the event yesterday. When I started like sat down to watch it in my mind what was going to happen is that they were going to announce the new apple watches. They were going to announce that they were GONNA strip be available for. Ordering or reordering this time this week, and then they would probably ship late next week and then I was fourteen and watch os seven would bend traditionally launch sometime made a middle of next week. So typically like about a week after the announcement. I always launch isn't it hardware launches like maybe a day or two after that? and so that was what I was kind of going into the event expecting and to then sort of like very, you know about halfway through the event see that it's like, no, it's coming out tomorrow like it was a bit of a range of emotions. So for this particular, like launch cycle, I have four different four updates that I was expecting and planning to try and launch relief coincident. With the update and so I have a sort of smallish updates to plus blessings sleepless plus medium-sized update to wash with and I'm launching which Smith with I was fourteen, and so I've gotten those APPs ropes sort of it's a tricky place they were roughly in the place that I was expecting them to be Around launch because the reality is whenever at like in a typical cycle when apple releases the GM after the event and we have about a week before launch. Usually try and submit my updates around the time that the GM comes out, and maybe it's not the day that the it comes out but it's within a day or two because I want him to through APP review if there's any rejections or things that I need to deal with so I was sort of ready but it was definitely a little bit chaotic to then have this feeling of like. I have no idea how fast APP review going to be able to turn these things around I'm going to need you sort of just like really just frantically survived buckle down and get you know sort of download the GM. which was a very strange process in this time because apparently there's two GM's. Very quickly issued a revision. The one that ends an nine is the newest one which I still have yet been able to actually download keep getting the old one for some probably cash-rich reason but anyway, it seems like the O. Eight one worked fine for what I was working on. It seems like it's a TV Os issue that you might need to have one or the other, but it's like I got that down and all my rebuild and just verify that I don't have the newest one I have the oh eight one even though the link said I downloaded it. So That's interesting I mean it's who knows what's going on. I think the reality is that seems like kind of a minor point because the reality is we are GM and then it's just like you know had a few hours of the install install gems. Actual test devices are playing with it. Make sure things seem to work on the side. It seems like the GM didn't change anything developer focused as far as. I can tell like it didn't I mean there's fixes and things in it that I certainly need to verify and make sure maps worked but it wasn't one of those years where like here is like this major change that is coincident with new hardware that we now need to sort of adapter like if they say they added a whole new complication family. For the new. Apple. Watch something like that like when they launched the series four. Apple Watch suddenly there was all of the graphic in like the infographics complication families that were just like appeared and while I didn't strictly need to have them on like for Launch Day. There was a substantial change that needed to adapt at least a burnt any of that but then. Turned around got my update submitted and it seems like a preview was definitely working overtime last night 'cause I submitted all four APPS yesterday evening and they were all approved within the the survey, the existing APPs role approved within a couple of hours then aged Smith, which up brand new APP with recurring a recurring in episode purchase subscriptions and things that you usually take a longer time was approved within maybe like five or six hours. So it's like a bit crazy and hectic but fine

How Climate Migration Will Reshape America

"Joining me in the studio is collateral producer off multiple twenty, four hours the urban Est.. Calendar. Will Not so much first of all, what's going on in our cities but the possibility that people might not want to leave them very much anymore. Yes. This is a story quite a long read on the New York Times how climate migration will reshape America this is my Abram looks Tarkhan who is a senior environment reporter for Propublica and he has for the past two years are so been. Investigating exactly how climate will impact cities and countries around the world. Now, we do have a tendency to when we think about that to think you know about rising sea levels to think about other places, not the US but if there's anything that this recent fire season has showed that America will very much be defined by this I. Mean we don't even have enough time on this show. To go through everything he writes but I would like to highlight a few things If I may one of them is just how much Americans don associate climate migration are something that might happen to them. Now does a few pointers here of why that might one of the ones I found. My most fascinating is because it is a very rich country and it does sort of thing. I think that's the commonality those rich and fortunate places. They think bad things happen to other people exactly and it's like if I have money I can solve it. But you know we the fact that you know a lot of the houses in Florida for example, in a few decades will be below sea level is something that people know already but for example, one of the things that he. Highlights. Here is how across the United States around one, hundred, sixty, two, million people. So that's nearly one in every two people will most likely experience a decline in the quality of life of their environment, the environment throughout their lifetime, which is quite insane and by twenty seventy, the analysis on this report suggests that you know if carbon emissions are not cuts after continuous extreme levels at least four million Americans could find themselves living at the French. So places that are con- considered to be outside the ideal for human life. He poses a really interesting question, which is what is the cost of actually resisting this new climate reality and especially in an election year when you have one side completely advocating for some change in another complete denying it seems like a question that is more pertinent than ever is a very fascinating and daunting investigation that he he spoke to four dozen experts from economists, people that work demography climate scientists even insurance executives to realize all of this and I encourage everyone to look at it might be scary but. "Thankful faults jewelry and fine art. Maybe a casino carefully organized plans by people dressed in black turtlenecks with lots of cool gadgets close calls. What we remember as the daring heist of one of the world's most famous paintings. was really neither of those things. This popularity certainly wasn't the case when the painting was I hung in the Leuven eighteen o four or for the century subsequent. Neither was popular with critics when the artistic elite who often relegated it to the low end of DAVINCI's work it was basically just another painting. It was so unsocial in fact that it took the better part of twenty four hours before staff even noticed the painting was missing in Nineteen. Eleven. A handyman named Vincenzo Perrugia was working in the museum and he simply waited in a closet until after the museum had closed. Tuck to the painting under his smock walked on out. He was unwittingly aided by a plumber also working in the museum who unlocked a for Peruta when he found himself stuck inside. The police were called and they searched the museum. The only sign they found the Japan Kanda was frame laying on a staircase. Though police did find some twenty one other paintings in the museum. The curator's had previously reported missing. The. Search went citywide then national then international. Ships were searched before they left France or after arriving in their port of call. A reward of over half a million dollars in today's money was offered. The Mona Lisa's picture was printed in newspapers all over the world. It became a of Mona Lisa Mania. The theft of this single painting served a spawn multiple criminal enterprises. People on the wrong side of the law knew that those with more money than morals would want to buy. LEGITIM- Kanda. A pair of confidence men from Belgium hired a small army of forgers to make quality fakes, which they then sold to select around the globe. They made sure their buyers were unlikely to ever meet and rested soundly knowing that no one would let on that they had purchased the most famous stolen painting in the world. Though today, one of them would probably take a selfie with it. The huge reward and the number of fakes in circulation meant the police were inundated with leads. For two years they searched tirelessly. But Fruitlessly The sixty man strong force even interviewed, Peruta Twice. But decided, he couldn't be the criminal mastermind they were looking for. Not only did those two years not yield the Mona Lisa the police didn't even find the forgeries. The head of the Paris police retired in shame. Did, peruse, you get an enormous payday for the stolen painting. People were soon to learn that he didn't steal it for money. When ferruccio approached museum in Florence to sell them the painting, the museum's director called the police instead. After. His arrest Russia's stated. The wonderful world of folding phones

"Out, you've had a very busy week and have is not is not for nothing that you've only slept four hours in the last three days or something. So I appreciate all the work you've done let's start with the galaxy fold sue and I'm just going to call it the galaxy full to because. No. The future is in flat. This is a phone that you and I went back and forth on about giving a five star review and we settled four point five out of five because no phone is perfect, etc etc. But I do want to talk about how much you like this thing in also how much better it is than the previous version. I'm you're not alone in this right this is you know the verge came out with their review this week as well. I think every other site that I've seen has sort of praised this as being an extravagance successful ones. So give us your your thoughts on unwired so much better than the first. Yeah I mean the biggest change for me is the fact that the cover screen now takes up the whole front of the phone. So it's it's. It really changes how you use it versus the short time. I. Spent with the original fold where you know that that covers green was so small that you could really only use it for notifications and and really small things. You didn't really want to use it for anything for more than two minutes or so the cover screen on the full to because it's it's so much bigger it. It really feels like just using a normal phone that just happens to be really narrow and tall. And you can do all your normal phone things with regular apps and not just notifications, and so it really makes the fold feel more like having two devices instead of just like having a tablet that shrinks to a frustratingly small screen. and that's It makes it a one handed device when you need it to be in that. That's a really big deal to me. I mean other than that. It's it's just fixing. So many things with the original full, the the hinges so much more rigid and you can use it for all the flex MoD things where you know certain APPS will rearrange themselves. When you fold the screen, it's not very widely implemented, but it does work really wealth the APPs that it that it has been. Optimized for and just the whole thing feels so refined where last year's fold felt like this is a really cool experiment, but it's still just an experiment This is a phone that like actually feels like a complete fully thought out products that somebody could and should by right now assuming they don't mind dropping two thousand dollars on a on a cell phone. And that's interesting. You know it's something that. It always takes that second generation to iron out any bugs but the ones that really affected. The I note were concerns about resilience this. Sorry. The first fold were concerns about resilience that the the plastics screen was scratched were susceptible to scratches that it wouldn't hold up in inclement weather that the repeated. Folding would. Potentially, damage it or may may not hold up to the regular stresses of daily life. You haven't had it very long but do have those concerns with this phone. Not, as much as I did with the first one, but I also don't think this is necessarily going to hold up as well as just a traditional phone that you're not fooling in half all the time. They made the they made some improvements like the ultra thin glass, the sort of outer plastic layer. Where the first vote was all plastic. So it should in theory be more more durable in that regard. Again, the hinge feels more resistant it's still not waterproof and that's a big bummer to me I. Don't I don't like use my phone in the rain all that often especially now that I'm not going out of the house when a when I can avoid it but. It. With two thousand dollar phone you kind of would hope it's going to be waterproof like every other phone on the market these days. So, little things like that I think add up to a phone that you maybe can't be. Confident in for the entirety of especially, if you're financing this for forty eight months like they offer on Samsung's website, don't don't find us a phone for four years. That's ridiculous. But I don't know that it's going to hold up over the course of four years or even two years. I trust it more than the first full though and I think that hopefully the next generation will be water resistant. If not everything else seems to be pretty airtight I, I don't have any like. crease aberrations that happened pretty pretty quickly with the original. Only had this for about ten eleven days, but it's still like A. Straight line down the middle. There's always the question of like what's the point of a folding phone? I guess some some of the. Questions have been aimed at the Z. Flip liner, the new Motorola Razor Five G. where they kind of their small. Clam shells that essentially open up into regular size phones a lot of people like the fact that they don't take as much space. When they're closed but I wonder is that an issue when you're trying to figure out how to use this phone and take advantage of it Especially now that the front screen is thin, but it's basically the size of a regular smartphone. How do you decide whether you're going to do something on your on the Front One? Put it back in your pocket quickly do you use it like as a as a larger smartwatch sort of triage or are you? Not, using it very much and instead of opening up the main screen and using that most of the time like how does that break down for you? So I used the cover screen a lot more than I expected to just again because it's sort of size like a normal phone, it is still like because it's so narrow I don't like typing on it at all especially, I've been sticking with Samsung's keyboard for the first time because it it can split down the Middle when you've got the phone extended and that's that's kind of Nice for for Ergonomics but the the keyboard itself as a nightmare so. I don't really love typing on the cover screen but I do use it a lot more than I thought. I would most of the time I just kind of decide like I wanNA use the phone one-handed or can I sit down and actually use it with both hands right now but the biggest guess most obvious reason to use the main screen is for multi tasking. It's so nice to have your APP split down the middle because you know you're basically working with two full sized phone screens right next to each other so you can have two full sized APPS. You can run three apps if you want or three APPs in a couple of floating windows, you can. You can do all kinds of stuff I. think it's really most usable with just two APPs renting it split screen. But there's I mean there's there's all sorts of things you can do their I've got the podcast rundown for this show pulled up right now just because it's such a you know spreadsheets are so nice on a giant screen and this is kind of perfect for that sort of thing. So I mean spreadsheets aren't sexy but if you use a lot of spreadsheets, that's a really good use case for something like the fold.

"Latino Rebels Radio Latino. Rebels. Radio Julia Regard Novella here in in Sunday September thirteenth twenty twenty and we are back and you're listening to us on audio boom stitcher, spotify apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. We've been following the situation in the West regarding these historic wildfires. The images are just tragic, and actually I have a guest in Oregon Nydia Alycia who reached out and said I want to talk about the situation and you're on Hello Nadya. Hey Thank you so much for having me and for giving me an opportunity to share a little bit about what's going on I'm doing the does the I can be in. The worst. nightmare that don't ever wish on anybody right now. So Why don't you just break it down because obviously people see the images, the hear the voices by this is your opportunity to this is your mic tell me your situation what's going on how whatever you WANNA share. What's going on in Oregon? It's been really disheartening to see some of these. You know this is a tragedy. By all means this is a nightmare, but I also just want to share that our community even though we've been the most impacted. We are also like incredibly resilient. So many of the families that I've seen my relatives my best friends family anytime. I've checked in with people that I know I grew up here I was born and here. You. Know are people are so concerned about other people you know even though there are folks right now families who are staying at their relatives or co workers or friends, and it's like fifteen people two bedroom they're still you know like, Oh, I'm really just worried about the people who haven't found a place to stay. So I've been seeing how our local news has taken pictures of some of our folks in. A really vulnerable situation in the middle of all this heartbreak there's so much resilience in so much power. The community is coming together to lead it beautiful efforts for people on. There is so much power in our unity right now in terms of like. Checking in on each other. because. You know when these things happen, it's the direct people on the ground who weren't as impacted. It's the WHO's folks it's I mean it's hard for me because my my dad lost everything. My Mom's home is still standing even though orders, but it's on us. That's the quickest way we're going to be able to make it out of this when you call your house when you call your cousins when you call your neighbor, you just check up on each other and that's the way I've seen a lot of our people get access to food get access to close. The happened at three PM. And thank God even though this is like the worst thing an entire town burning down at three entire towns being severely destroyed by these fires. Thank God. It happened at three in the morning when you know folks are sleeping or at seven pm runs home from work. Because this, all happened in a blink of an eye it was within three to four hours. This fire went from Ashland to talent to Phoenix to Medford like I said, my mom lives in talent and my dad lived or his residence is in Phoenix in from you know checking on each other is like i. i saw the smoke, it eleven intolerant and the like. Yeah. I didn't get the call until one before we talk about your situation and others tell me a little bit about the community I. Mean that people don't know about yeah I mean who that's that question brings tears to my eyes 'cause. were community of be Natal's of a scene laws of now we would call them mighty needles 'cause there's all the ham `bout here. I'll the grapes we're just hardworking people man my folks got. In the late eighties, early nineties following the harvest from California You know once they were done. My mom got here when she was done. Picking Strawberries and she heard about pairs in southern Ohio and had an anti who had come. Sooner and my dad, you know was picking Liz in new? Mexico. about the beans out here and My Dad has planted over twelve million trees in the Pacific northwest like are people are so embedded in this landscape in the food, we produce in the beautiful mountains that you see those are all planted by our arkady that. we have make status community Some folks. Like myself, my mom and dad were undocumented when I was a child and I was a citizen in my mom eventually became a citizen. My Dad is. has his residency. So like a we have different kinds of. Legal status is which also be barrier for some of us in terms of having adjust recovery out of this disaster. But Overall, like this is what the hardest thing for me is is that I don't know a single family in in our community that has that was not impacted by this we're tightening We have some families here that You know that you've got the mom and then you have the kids we have like three generations of families here already. And we all know the you know the big lessons that family so and so make it. Okay. All will that family one lost everything others. Okay. So that's also been one of the reasons why are people have we've been able to you know figure it out a little easier because we do have we do rely on each other and like we do, we do count with each other support you know simply Say Yoga Nisa seat thou. At buckeyes and your Kiekens say you know were were just were just helping help. We're just helping each other to do our best making out of this right now

National Bald is Beautiful Day with Jon Gay

"Paul John Gay Aka Jag here wishing you a very happy bald is beautiful day. I have to turn this off because actually use a BOC three to shave my head and I've been doing that since two thousand when I was twenty five but just doesn't sound as good as the electric into a microphone. Hoping you have some podcasts ideas around bald is beautiful. Because, just remember God only made a few perfect heads on the wrist he put hair. I, always hope to get some good sound effects from I guess, but I'll say that electric razors the funniest one day John. Today is September thirteenth and for my first recommendation I'm going a little off the board here. I honestly did spend some time listening to a few episodes related to hair loss but none that I would force my listeners to suffer through. Instead I found a podcast made by youngster named Grady, who makes the grady and the Lille Lyon podcast grady share some interesting facts about animals. What does this have to do with? Bald is beautiful day you ask. Will in this episode, he talks about a beautiful bird known as the Bald Eagle. Did you know the bald. Eagle makes a biggest nest of any bird. Me Neither. Listen in for short two and a half minutes to get nine other facts, and then you can talk about it using the National Bald is Beautiful Day Hashtag even though it wasn't the true intent of the Hashtag. My guest today is John Gay when I reached out to John About being a guest, it made me a bit sad I met John podcast movement in two thousand eighteen and then again last year. But with no in person event this year, we wouldn't be able to catch up face to face. John's podcasts is called the jags show, which is focused around podcasts. He is short weekly episodes and then mixes in longer form interviews with industry people. In this episode, he interviews Rob Greenlee of the newly formed podcast academy. They talk about the industry and then give details about the academy which a lot of us are curious about. In fact, this episode reminded me to join the academy as soon as I finish recording. For last recommendation John Comes back with fellow bald man met cuddle who hosts the sound off podcast. Matt did a lengthy interview with Boston legend Mistress Carey about her departure from w. a. f., and her venture into podcasting. For today's extra awes- I'll let you know that I've been going to the same barber since high school even after moving four hours away. But due to the pandemic, my nephew is now cutting my hair is real job corporate advertising.

What Everyone Forgets About Money

"What everyone forgets about money by Crowning Chris. RINING DOT COM. Washing dishes was how I earned my first paycheck when you're fifteen years old and don't get money from your parents to buy things then you have to work. So there. I was scrubbing dishes in the filthy kitchen of a small family owned Italian restaurant, and it's where I learned a little life lesson work is nothing more than trading time for money a medium of exchange. You provide one hour of time to an employer and they provide an hour's wage. I quickly discovered teenagers time isn't worth all that much a measly four, twenty, five per hour. Not long after starting that job I wanted this blind melon album. You might remember their catchy song no rain. One Saturday afternoon wandering the aisles in K. Marts, electronics, department I saw it for sale. Cool. I'm getting it. The price was sixteen, Ninety, eight for whatever reason I did the mental math to figure out the album didn't really cost me seventeen dollars. No, it costs four hours on your feet washing never ending streams of bus tubs overflowing with half finished plates of meat balls is this CD worth four hours of my time. In this case it was but more importantly, you realize the money tucked in your wallet isn't money at all. It's time disguised as money. In fact, it was Benjamin Franklin who said time is money but in our hectic day to day lives, it's easy to forget this. When you spend your money, what you're really doing is spending your time, which means if you waste your money, you waste your time. anyways throw my teens I worked a series of jobs, bagging groceries, stocking merchandise theater concessions, and mostly saved my earnings my time to precious and then I went off to college started a career and forgot what I learned. have. You heard that saying from Texas big hat no cattle meaning you can look rich but be poor. It's hard to believe people who make lots of money are poor. But then your tax preparer tells you they see plenty of families making three hundred thousand dollars and living paycheck to paycheck Thomas Stanley profiles. These folks in the millionaire next door, the doctor lawyer types who drive fancy cars living exclusive neighborhoods and take exotic vacations they look rich, but it's an illusion. It's the families who make one hundred, thousand dollars spent forty thousand and have a million dollars in the bank who are rich. Isn't the worst irony that the simplest way to get rich and have lots of money to spend his by not spending lots of money. But just because it's simple to get rich doesn't mean it's easy spend less than you earn and invest the difference that simple would makes getting rich so difficult is that spending less than you earn takes discipline the median retirement account is worth twenty, five, thousand dollars, and so the problem isn't paying people more money they'll save more give people more money to spend and they'll spend more money. I know this because back in my twenties, I spent just like the next person you think acquiring loss of material possessions satisfying all your superficial desires is the key to happiness. It took me years to relearn what I knew as a teenager. The things you buy with money that you surround yourself with aren't things at all it's your time. And research shows it's having control over your time that makes you happiest not money and things. So, most people have a choice. You can trade time for money and money for things, or you can trade time for money and then use that money as a tool to buy back time. That's why you save and invest, which reminds me of what stoic philosopher Seneca said quote. It's not that we have a short time to live but that we waste much of it life is long enough and it's been given to us in generous measure for accomplishing the greatest things if the whole of it is well invested. But when life is squandered through soft and careless living, and when it spent on no worthwhile pursuit death finally presses and we realized that the life which we didn't notice passing has passed away and quote. What he's saying is when you're about to die, you realize life is time and doesn't that make time your most precious resource. Here think about it like this see, you've worked forty hours per week for the past ten years. You've traded twenty thousand hours of your time. That's forty hours times, fifty weeks, times, ten years, and on the other side of the trade is everything you've consumed sure necessities like food clothing, shelter and healthcare but probably a bunch of other stuff you've totally forgotten about buried in the back of some closet. Was it a fair trade? Maybe it was maybe it wasn't but people are always telling me they've earned million dollars over the past ten years and have nothing to show for it and it makes them sick. They're not complaining about wasting their money. What they're complaining about is wasting their time. Trade wisely.

No Going Back to Normal with Guillermo del Toro, Zack Arnold and Laine Trzinski"

"Welcome to our podcast. It's where we asked some of the entertainment industry's brightest minds how Hollywood might reinvent itself as it comes out of the pandemic coming up filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. But first, we ask our guests in every episode, what they would do to fix Hollywood and we've talked with actors, directors, executives, and writers. But, what about the people on the frontlines the below the line workers as they're called in the business, they do vital work behind the scenes and they have a lot to say about what needs to change Hollywood is going to thrive after the pandemic members of the gig economy people that are creative professional's in. Hollywood, we're essentially chewed up and we are spit out. We are treated like we are widgets we are commodities that can be replaced. That's Zach Arnold he's a film and TV editor. He's worked on shows like empire burn notice and glee he got a lot of attention for a blog post he wrote about what could happen when production resumes the title Dear, Hollywood? We don't WANNA go back. To normal normal wasn't working. It had come from me having hundreds of conversations with people that all said the same thing because of the pandemic I had this immense amount of self awareness of how much I hated my life before all this started. Now that I'm not driving I realized how much I hated my commute now that I'm not working eighteen hours, I realized how much time I lost with my children and I received hundreds upon hundreds of responses I'm still getting them, and I still can't sift through all of them. Arnold's blog is called optimize yourself and gives advice about work life balance, which is really important in an industry that is notorious for grueling hours with no guarantee of steady employment. Arnold shares a story that he heard from film editor Walter Merch, he worked on the Godfather and apocalypse. Now, it was a famous story back in the mid to late seventies about a film that was vastly over budget and had very tight deadlines and everybody was just getting pushed to the limit with twenty hour days and they went to one of the heads of post production at Universal Studios and said, we have to do something about these demands. Everybody is dropping like flies and the response was get more flies. Nothing has changed in the last forty years. It's all about everybody having to create a miracle such that today's Miracle Dust becomes tomorrow's expectation and whatever it takes however many people it takes to figure this out they throw people at the problem and as soon as somebody can't deliver anymore they find somebody else that will and I think this is a systemic issue that needs to change, and if ever there was a time to figure it out I think it's right now the most immediate problem with that get more flies solution is that if someone on test positive for coronavirus, it isn't simply a matter of replacing that person one infected crew member could shut down an entire production. And the safety protocols that you need to prevent that that requires time and attention and money. So what we can't do a separate, the conversation of safety from the conversation of ours because the two are inextricably linked. If you're going to have a safer set, you need to have people that are healthy that have strong immune systems that are not sleep deprived. That are working regular hours. I don't know why it has gotten to a point where. We do work such long hours when honestly to have any sort of life, we shouldn't Laney trubisky is one of the many industry gig workers who read Zak's blog post she's a hairstylist and she's been in the business since nineteen ninety-three. But back in March when the pandemic hit her work stopped Gosh, it's just been ups and downs my feelings change every single day I'm not sure if I even willing to remain in the film business. Because the film business, we had before very stressful and was very hard on a lot of families and people and things have to change their for sure the hours for her makeup teams some of the longest onset they have to be there before the actors arrive and can't leave until the actors are done. Laney says the norm are fourteen or sixteen hour days, and she has worked for twenty four hour days in her career, but she's hopeful. Things will get better. There's so much time entailed in getting our disinfecting right before we even get to work and get to working on the actors that the film business is going to have to slow down I. Don't think it has a choice anymore, and I, think it will be beneficial for all of us. Laney's work requires her to be on set but people like Editors Zach? Arnold. Well, they can do a lot of their work from home. As long as their bosses sign off, just had the conversation this week with an assistant editor who was told that in order for them to be able to keep their job, they have to work in the office and they have to go into a screening room with ten or fifteen directors and producer. They can take notes because that's just the way that it is in its quote unquote impossible to. Work from home we've now learned that's not the case and people are just making these excuses number one because they don't want to put in the effort or number two because they don't Wanna spend the money but guess what disruption is uncomfortable, it is painful but this is the point where we're going to have to fix these issues because you can't just say to somebody sorry informed the standards or we're. Going to hire somebody else while it might have been possible in the past for the people doing the hiring to point to a pile of resumes and say, if you don't do this job, someone else will arnold says that's changing. Now there's nobody on that stack because nobody's willing to go in under these circumstances and that is why I think Cova such an inflection point for post for Hollywood generals that. Before whenever we've thought about what are the consequences? Well, it's going to be really long days and I'm going to be really sleep deprived and something might happen. But what are the chances now we're literally talking about losing our lives if we do this wrong and I think that is the big change that we're seeing just emotionally the groundswell is people saying your entertainment is not worth me giving my life.

Shuko Oda's Sticky Chicken Wing Recipe

"Hello. My name is Schuco Oda I am a Japanese chef from Koya restaurant and today I'd like to share a recipe for sticking wings and burnt soy jam. This is a really simple recipe that I do often at home as well as the restaurant. and. The good thing about this dish is that you can do all your peparations the night before. So. Let's get started the day before your barbecue or when your are coming, there are three things to prepare chicken wings, the burnt soy jam and the Garnish. going onto the chicken wings, we prepare the chicken wings by removing the tips cutting them in half of other if you like to keep your chicken wings whole, feel free to do that too. And then you basically soak the chicken wings and four percent salt water. Brian for about four hours, then you take them out, pop them dry with the dish cloth and then you leave them to air dry in the fridge. And then next, we make the sauce for the burnt. So Jam, you basically need four hundred milliliters of soy sauce four, hundred milliliters of mewing, which is the sweetened taquet, and then one hundred, twenty milliliters of rice vinegar. And Eighty grams of honey and those things are all mixed together in a pot and you keep this at rapid boil. So the edges of the pop start to burn and give it intends burnt flavor the washing a little bit hard by the end but You just need to get them boiling quite rapidly so that it does have that burnt flavor to it. So You keep it boiling until basically it's reduced to maybe about one sixth of its original amount. This can be just roughly and. Once, it's down to one sixth and it's looking quite sticky. Then you had the same amount of. Jam. And for the jam, this can be pretty much anything from a free call tomorrow related ones with a little bit of acidity usually goes well, and then once the jam is at you similar the sauce for further two minutes or so basically until the sauces welcome pined thicky and that's your burnt soy I'm ready and advocate to the sweet salty sauce. We need to prepare some garnish and I like to use much stick leaks, which you can simply prepare cutting leak into five centimeter cylinders, and then you use only a white skins and slice some along the grade into matchsticks. You keep this at a cold water and then that's pretty much all your preparation done. So on the day of your barbecue. Do now is to grill your chicken wings, dip them into the brunt jam, and then top them with leaks and seeress ticky chicken wings served. And that's it break for barbecues and I'm sure your guests would love it.

It's like there is proof. that. If you take some of that money and put into the other ones. You won't need as much police now share while, but people are like. Going the other way, take a little more from education to go to police. That's the one where it's hard. For and I'm sure there are people arguing it, but like this is the Internet. You know what I mean right, but now everything has like now. Let's take a little bit more from mental health. So when a person has a mental health episode, the police are called. In a person is upshot it was charging the cop well, he was schizophrenic. What do you apply that but? People. Would there be. I've always thought if we didn't charge. Like drug users any drug as criminals and actually got them the help they needed. Would there be that problem with their many homeless people because of their drug addiction and I understand it's a different battle for every single person. However I know the what the wrong answer isn't. It's the one we keep going to time after time after time. You're right. Let's take a little more money from drug addiction. Get into the police. We've got beat. Those addicts clean. That's the only way. You punish them. That's how you everyone knows. That's how you break addiction you punish. Is isn't too early at least for this country.
