"WTO news. The nation's highest scored his back at work this week with several weighty cases of the docket that could overturn legal precedent. This is also the first time on the bench for justice, the town G Brown Jackson, the first African American woman to serve on the Supreme Court and the first ever there have been four female justices on the panel. This morning Kimberly Robinson, Supreme Court reporter for Bloomberg law with a preview of this coming session. I think on how the justices decided the case, it's looking like a voting rights case that will be heard sometime in November is going to be a big one for the court. There are the courts asking whether or not state legislatures are the only members of a state that get to decide on voting rules or if state courts and others get to decide some of that too. One of the first cases of this new term justice is hearing arguments on the federal government's power to protect the environment under the clean water act. Tell us about this. It's another case dealing with administrative law, which the justices of the court are really interested in with the current court. And it's really about whether or not the EPA has the authority to regulate wetlands, which can be an important part of ensuring water quality. It was just this Jackson's first argument of the court and a suitable one for her, too, because she came from the federal courts here in the District of Columbia, which here of disproportionate share of administrative law cases. Another big case involves congressional districts and race from Alabama and it could take down the Voting Rights Act provision against diluting the voting power of racial minorities Kimberly. Tell us about that. Specifically, it deals with section two of the Voting Rights Act, and that's something that challengers can do after these laws have taken place. These laws that they claim are discriminatory and the section has taken on new importance since the

At a 6 to three ruling, the Supreme Court has limited the broad authority of the Environmental Protection Agency to curb power plant emissions that contribute to climate change. I'm not surprised by the ruling. I think this was expected. I feel somewhat optimistic that we don't have a more sweeping limit of EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gases in general. Susan annenberg is a climate professor at George Washington University, Jim Crow CBS News. Now The White House did get a victory in the other big ruling today, the Supreme Court says it will not stand in the way of plans to end a Trump era program which required migrants seeking asylum to stay south of the border. It's like you had an orange juice crew eighty-eight shirt and he threw it out into the crowd. He got it when you the today played the tour through cleveland and they're screening shirts out of the back of their van. Petitional like there's a definitive. Hr photo right busy definitive. We interviewed with one program director and then went through the match and got in but then by the time we actually started work a second program director who had been a rival at another program right up. The road had taken over the spot. Monaghan the introduction to him was him standing up and saying well. Now that i'm here we're going to get some real real quality residents in here and we're going to turn this into a real academic program ono. Aided you guys right from the start. Yes yes and i'm coming from a great program. I went to university of florida. My three girlfriends one went to harvard and the other one went to university of miami. And the other one went to emory so like Exactly how do you think you're going to get a better batch than this. Next thing that we noticed was that for whatever reason they would pick and then pick on one resident from the intern class every single year and we just out after talking to some of our seniors and things like that and it started with one of my classmates and they just harassed her and harassed her and harasser until she finally was just you know at her whitson By the end of our intern year two of my classmates left the program ottawa. So it was. It wasn't my imagination. I know and it wasn't my rebellious or anti authority attitude Which i do cop to sometimes. But you know i was in pretty pretty much humble pie mode the whole time. So by the time. I hit third year of our four year residency. They had either held back or fired one resident each year. Wows there. yeah and what it did. It seems kind of weird but what it does is it opens up a second slot so you get to fill the slot. That's empty but they also get like a. I guess a half slaughtered additional slot. Because you're looking for somebody or whatever so the the invisible was that you get five residents for the cost of four. Oh that's terrible. Yeah and so. They were playing. It's my opinion. And i don't want to throw anybody under the bus but i think they were doing it because we were super super busy. We were doing about eleven thousand deliveries a year with sixteen residence hall. My gosh yeah. We were super busy. And i think it was their way of overcoming that. Ac jimmy monetary hap for residents. We started getting fairly defensive about it and and upset and felt like we were being targeted and essentially discriminated against and harassed. They went after my one classmate who was a part of military. She was on military scholarships that she was going to be going off to an army dock and they caused her to not only have to repeat a year but she ended up having to do more military time as well because she was on scholarship so they were really smooth people's lives and eventually came around to where it was might turn and i just started biting into tooth and nail. Like i was not about to go down like that you know i was going to be repeating. A year is not going to be quitting. I was not going to allow them to fire me without a lawyer. I was mature enough in old enough to know that what they were doing was not right. They've got the upper hand there the program and you're a resident there. You don't have many options and at one point. They said you know what you either undergo the psychological testing. Or we're gonna kick you out of the residency because we think that you're you know. Basically disruptive physician was you know not what they call it. but that's what they were trying to pin on me right oppositional defiant disorder as the. Yeah yeah i had and that. I had a learning disability. Because i- shockingly didn't score in the top ten th percentile of my in service exams because you know god why would i would. I'm the stressed out. Never have any time to study. And so i said you know what yeah. Let's do this. Let's see if. I have a learning disorder. Because i knew i didn't because i get tested look remember I knew something. They didn't know. Bring it on and so they sent me to their psychiatrist or or you know whatever. And and i don't want to say that that person would have been compromised right. You never know right now. I and so would have been you never know. Yeah it could have been set up exactly. But i went and when the report came out the report literally said. She has acute stress disorder from a toxic work environment. What other mirror. Mazes didn't he so awesome and it all went away instantly so contentious that by the end we actually did not attend our own graduation. We told do not throw us a party because we will not be. They're like we're not gonna go and we don't want you to be embarrassed. We tried to be the bigger people right. Right just is not to be there. Everybody knows what's going on. Everybody has has seen what has happened this program because we basically had no contact order You know how the hospitals always have the liaison for the jimmy up at them now the up levels of the hospital we had made an arrangement with them that basically until we graduated that we were going to have no contact with our program director. It was dabau because those last few months it was just we came into work. We did our work. We went we went home. We were fine with that. We had no problems with any of our mentors or other attending. This was long standing dysfunction in this program. The good side of it was that you know it did get looked at after we left. They had some other incidences one of which got national attention and then after that happened things really cleaned up. They literally had a couple of residents that ended up going to federal prison. I won't get into that because that's a different story but it is actually verifiable through public public disclosure. But but it was. It was big. Deal is a federal drug stain. Kind of thing. And after that program got a lot of scrutiny. And i think at this point they have redeemed themselves. They now have more residents.
