Lamar reviews 'The Stranger'
"Good friend of ours recommended the stranger and she was not wrong. The Stranger is based on a novel by Hauling Cohen. And it was originally set in New Jersey but Netflix chose to move to England because evidently British mysteries or a lot cooler than American mysteries. And I don't disagree but along with that. Coolness comes that British accent that makes everybody sound smarter and what they're saying seem more important. It has its own set of problems. I can't always understand what they're saying to characters home sentences that will make everything clear with a hugely dramatic consequence and cargoes wait. What did you say go? We wish? Stop and rewind which means instead of going back to riot before the two sentences we wind up twelve minutes earlier so they're not trying to fast forward back to where we were and zoo passed it and then we see some that we should have seen until we understood those two sentences and callers like what are you doing and I said I'm over here if you could do any better take the remote now. We're having a fight over this because it's it's nuts nuts and it happened at least three or four times in each episode. So now it's like I don't know the words they're using this need. I need less mumbling. Okay and so what? I should have done what I'm telling everybody else to do. If you have this problem it's turn on the closed caption it so you can see what these fools are talking about. It's at don't ever have this problem. One Lamar the TV show peaky blinders learned how to turn the clothes caption on A. I agree with what you're saying but right now there's some guy from England who's living in the United States saying are you telling me some guy from Georgia is criticizing how the English speak what they invented the language. At least it looks like they could speak it clearly. Mean no it's true. It's very and the toughest understand out of the all of the United Kingdom Areas is Scotland Scottish. Accent to me. I can't even understand what they're selling. Well I keep them I turn on the closed caption for peaky blinders and for outlander because when some of the side outlander characters dodger that. I'm pretty sure that Berta just said something critical to the plot. I have no idea what it was so I feel you Lamar. When Kelly was learning Japanese. She told me that she would. She would go to this place where the old Japanese men were talked to them. She said the hardest thing to understand is old because everybody they've been talking to each other for so long they just sort of say half the word and everybody's sort of picks up and I think this is what's happening here. I'm not getting the whole things I don't know anyway. Back to the story the series Stewart Richard Armitage and hit as Adam price season attorney has a wife and two boys. He's approached by this attractive young woman. The Stranger played by Hannah. Joe John Cameron and she tells him that his wife has a secret and she has been lying to him for the last two years she tells him or he can find the proof and now that he knows that she's a liar. He no longer has to stay with her so this she just leaves now. When he confronts his wife his wife says well. There's more to it and I'll tell you everything but not right this minute it while this is going on. A decapitated animal is discovered in the middle of the town. Along with that comes. Multiple visits from the stranger to other people naked bodies found in the woods. Really Bad Cup. I really good cup murder embezzlement blackmail infidelity and so many other things that have nothing to do with each other or do they have power. They connected snowden brings more questions but no answers. It's just definitely been show. You can't stop once you start there eight episodes. They're forty two minutes just rated TV may for language include the F word a lot edgier seat twist and turns with a lot of surprises and a lot of British monklands. It's you have no idea what's going on but overall it's a good series. My schoolwork is four solid budweiser. I enjoyed
"forty two minute" Discussed on Bloomberg Radio New York
"Forty two minutes to go ahead of the close well let's take stay with Bloomberg for the latest S. and P. up now by one hundred six points a gain of four point three percent Charlie palette and that the Bloomberg business slash much appreciated Charlie Pallett keeping us up to date on what's going on in the world of business let's get an update on what's going on in Washington because we are waiting on that massive two trillion dollar virus rescue package to go through waiting on the house to vote on it Steve Dennis is sent reporter at Bloomberg news on the phone from Washington so Steve where are we in this process yeah basically we're waiting for the house to come back tomorrow morning speaker Pelosi says one way or another they're gonna pass this thing tomorrow looks like they're gonna try to do a police boats and there will be members there to object to just unanimous consent but why is it taking so long you know that is a very good question the thing is is that the rules in Congress are not designed for speed and you want to go really fast you basically need unanimous consent in both chambers to go super duper fast and you know in the Senate it just takes one senators say Hey I don't like this piece or I don't like that piece and they can delay things for days and days and days houses a little bit faster but you know we have this unique situation where we members don't want to be there a lot of members are in quarantine or coming from states like New York where other folks are not wanting to be around those members so we'll see what ends up happening tomorrow I think it's almost a certainty that this thing comes out of the house tomorrow and if not if if one were to members insist on a roll call vote certainly by the end of the week and this thing will be heading to the president's desk it's not really a question of when if it's more a question of when and when Wright so I gotta ask you you know you you mentioned you know a senator can object to this or object to that in quibble with this or that and we certainly saw some of that yesterday remind us what happened there and and ultimately what was the what was the sticking point I'm thinking specifically around this sort of showdown that included Bernie Sanders presidential candidate and Lindsey Graham sure so the unemployment benefits he said this became a late sticking point you have a handful of Republican senators holding up or threatening to hold up the bill because everybody who gets unemployment insurance for the next couple months because of the corona virus it you know you have this huge wave of unemployment everybody would get an additional six hundred dollars a week under this plan so that's on top of your normal benefits or funeral benefits a few hundred dollars a week you get six hundred dollars a week on top of that you had a handful of the senators suddenly say even though the bill been out there for days you think they've said yesterday Hey this looks like a drafting error low wage workers will get paid more on unemployment and they were making in their jobs and so they say this is an incentive to basically get laid off and stealing it off for four months and the Democrats are like look this was worked out days ago the trump administration said if we tried to tweak it the way you guys want to it would take eight months slowly state computer systems to be updated it just wouldn't work and and that's what we were hearing from the trump administration from people like secretary Mnuchin is look this is this is not gonna be a big problem for the economy we need to move fast right I mean it we're we're gonna realize that there's going to be probably those folks to take advantage of this program at all but you know at this point it's about getting something out there as quickly as possible to help individuals who don't have the safety nets small business who don't have those safety nets and just make sure that somehow we're going to have you know an economy to come back to well another point but was being made by the Democrats last night is in the next three four months people who you know for starters if you quit your job you don't qualify for these benefits you have to actually be laid off second if you've been laid off from these jobs were we have another company that we've sort of fraud are trying it to many ways to slow down we don't necessarily want all all sorts of workers to be desperately out there in public searching for all these jobs right so the so you know you kind of want to keep people stay home and the many of the low wage workers as far as like helping the economy if somebody was making minimum wage before another stuck at home if you give them a few extra hundred dollars those folks are going to be spending that money so the other point that the Democrats are making last night right all right well it's a really good state of play were so grateful to you we know it has been fast and furious for for sure Carol says Steve is it a morning bowed his head by noon what we anticipated had what's the playbook on this tomorrow yes so close I think may come in at nine close he wants to be done by noon they're gonna have a few hours of debate if somebody wants to come to the floor and say what they liked or didn't like but you know anyone remember can demand a roll call vote show up and be indignant about it and then they'd have to call everybody back or at least enough members to have a quorum that would take at least hours before people could get here on airplanes and in cars and all the things I think all right your question right now for businesses is how fast this money's getting out what everybody's focused on right now actually the small business money three or fifty billion dollars in free money the government passing out but initially with loans for banks and eventually it's all becomes grants if you keep up your payroll that monies that matters for millions and millions of small businesses out there and they want to get it out money get out the door exactly they want to get that as soon as sponsor eight Stephen Dennis thank you so much sent a reporter keep an eye on everything down in the nation's capital it's been a fast moving story really really good I feel like I understand this better now having talked to him really good stuff all right coming up we're gonna bring you Dave Wilson's chart.

"An abused since it potentially creates the biggest effort surveillance, no work for Google or another company. You know, it's unfortunate that we've gotten his position. Now, where we don't understandably don't trust these companies, and and it's slow it's could slow down this kind of innovation because people just don't it's good. It is good. Nation as long as we continue to do it. Right. And we are. I mean, that's where we're at. I don't think it's crazy to be like, you know, I'm sure when would generals like came up against the first people who had guns or maybe arrows there were like holy cow. This is a new technology. We've got to figure out what this is. How we adapt to it. It's not crazy for us to have that same thing. And I'm not saying this technology is as deadly. But it's definitely got similar types of reprecussions in terms of like effects. So. Yeah. This is where I'm on Jeff side of this whole moral panic thing because sometimes that catch that could be used to shut stuff down. Instead of just say, let's really talk about the issues here. I think that's what we do. Well, and that's why it's great to have both of you kind of fighting back and forth on this because it's it's reasonable to to consider it. It's not crazy to press pause in. If you shut something down for a little while. And then you recognize I mean, like, I've kicked thing. I'm sure everyone's done this. I've I've kicked things out of my house and then like two weeks later, I'm like do those dumb. I really need this. And then you realize where you need it most. And you start don't you worry is. I do that now. Oh, the only reason I'm hooked. I can't get I can't get rid of it. Not because I do need it or be because it's a benefit. But because I'm hooked on this stuff, but you worry about that. Now, we got hooked on books. Well on TV was gonna be awful to us. We watch. We we we we watch things. It's okay. Okay. I would argue though, let's just throw out this TV example for a second there. Because Americans are now watching like five hours and forty two minutes. Really not what you would you would have predicted. That would go down and internet viewing would go up. And it's not the case both have gone up. Well, overall television overall video content viewing has gone up the slice of it happening on mobile in non television networks, but we're still increasing tradit- we're still watching a lot of traditional now. But it's not growing that what we're watching a traditional TV is not growing. I know so much a law. I may how much I think there's a much for four hours a day, roughly, four hours a day or three hours and fifty minutes. I do. But, but if I may speak on behalf of the great unwashed masses, I think it's a little hockey to say all these people are doing all that. And it's just awful for them. People do what they want to do in their lives. And it's ok well, I'm not saying it as those people. I am doing it too much. So your judgment is too much. But others are doing it to what they ever wanted to do. That's fine. Trying to tell somebody to stop watching TV. I would argue that television is. The opiate of the masses. No, that's religion. But I would say that there are repercussions to television. I don't think we are distracting ourselves to death. Not just that. But think about like, I look at someone like my father who watches a lot of Fox News and. I think the things that television brings out or certain types of television. And I'm not trying to throw Fox News under the bus. There are programs on all twenty four hour. News is bad for us sums worse than others. But any twenty four hour news channel has an imperative to ramp up everything because they need to fill the time. Everything becomes important even the smallest detail. And I know because I remember having to fill twelve hours a day on TV. And that's the result of it. Is you go every story is a big story. So I I wrote a I'm not.

The Beatles' historic final concert held on rooftop 50 years ago
"They would be the last time the band that changed everything played a concert in public. If you call the forty two minutes session a concert and the roof of their apple records headquarters public. Then it had been more than two years since the Beatles last live show in San Francisco where they were escorted out in an armored bus. What's the best way out and their feelings toward each other had grown is raw at the January weather in London when they hit the roof. There was a lot of dissension going up there. In fact, I was told that they almost didn't even go through the door on the roof. Ken Mansfield oversaw the US for apple records. But when they started playing, it was the old Beatles. Paul looked over at John and John leftover Paul. These are people who were bonded together by that moment. Ringo. John More, their wives jackets to stay warm. The crew posts stockings over the Mike says win buffers. Five stories down people on the streets. Couldn't see who was playing the vacant here group that sounded as tight as ever as they created a traffic nightmare that sent the London police to the roof to pull the plug. The lack she. Fifteen months later. Mccartney would quit the band. No longer the lads from Liverpool. The beatles. Run out grownup men with grownup issues funny how much has changed in seven years and how quickly the next fifty past.

"Portland struggled to carve out chances that save by goes on on forty two minutes because it was it was straight after the Joseph Martinez gold so Joseph Martinez. Has scores on the turnover by Michael pack horse on thirteen nine minutes. If you respond on forty two minutes, you go into halftime even that is such a boost to what Portland are doing. It puts little to doubt in Atlanta makes them think they're in the game now, and that they've got to be maybe pulled back a little bit from their attack in play mentally it can have an effect. But once crews on makes dot save. I my heart dying for them. I never they could rectify the situation after that. Really? I mean, the out of this Paolo chance to two-nil down. But then again Escobar's goal was ten minutes into the second half. That's a body blow. Think of it. Thirty nine minutes you go when up forty two minutes you stop. What's that? Like a certain equalizer and then ten minutes into the second half. You can't even get your foot in your to behind that was that was a body blow that was terminal for Portland timbers in terms of this game. I figure absolutely right. And I think that we you know, it was just I thought it was a complete performance from Atlanta. Like you mentioned on the first goal. Michael parker. Now, maybe it was a bit of a reckless pass to even put a bogus e in that position for Portland NIA. But Parker says there they press high. He comes up with a turnover and then bang Martinez. Just lots around the keepers as he does. But it's funny you ask now we're removed enough from the game where you can only do so much of the game itself. And you kind of start looking ahead Atlanta's now in a weird position, right? Like I'm reading today that Miguel Marrone is in talks to go to new castle. Yeah. But I'm Marie I'm reading that Darren Eales has said it's got to be it's going to have to be a huge number to get. It has to start with the number three or they're not. Even or it's a nonstarter. Yeah. I mean, look it's so hard like, I'm not dot folks is not three million. What do you think it is? I think it's way he could be asking for thirty million. We don't know. Oh, my God three million that seems low that seems very low for a young player with the reputation. He has I'm with the amount of interest. He appears to be garnering from other clubs. Thirty sounds an incredibly huge at right? So so I don't I don't I still don't know how to judge top notch talent in this league. I don't know what their value is like who's the guy that has left. Can you think of any example, really of like a striker or an attack minded player leaving MLS and then going to Europe and like dominating? No. But I would not off the top of my head. But by the same token, we've not seen a club goal boat. It's business in the way Atlanta have identified through scouting to players like Joseph Martinez Anonima Ron on even Barco to an extent. Although he hasn't quite well, we haven't even really scratched the surface with him. You know, we have and but look at their policy. Andrew it wasn't like let's bring in proven winners. It's that's bringing scouted. Well, whether regarded talent so this will be the first in a long line of players that do this MLS is the stopping point is the platform for. Jumped to Europe. It's the curse of success. But also dominant in great as they are clubs are gonna come calling. Yeah. And certainly. Here's the other side. It's from a monetary standpoint. If if you were able to buy a player for for minimum output, and then flip him for the kind of money that darn eels is expecting. It's a very good business model, but more than that just thinking about the specifics of Morongo into Newcastle. We're hearing all these rumors and uncertainty about what's happening at the club. Are they going to really want to pay that kind of money for player when Mike Ascii isn't gone out the door yet? I don't think Mike Mike actually hasn't. When you look what? He's furnished Rafa Benitez with over the summer. It's hard to believe that they're going to pay thirty million. So maybe you're right..
