How to Not Have a Lost Decade

"Welcome money for the rest of this is a personal finance show on money how it works how to invest it and live without worrying about it. We host David Stein today's episode three, fourteen it's titled Don't have a lost decade. Recently, got an email from a new plus member. He says he's treating the material on the website like an online college course but he had a question he wrote that he's approaching a crossroad in his life and he would like to prepare himself for that crossroad. He works at one of the Best Public Gardens in us as a horticulturalist he's been there three years makes forty three thousand dollars per year has four weeks of vacation full healthcare and Hsa they have a four zero three. B. Defined contribution plan where he gets a six percent match his boss enjoy working with him and he enjoys his job. This member also has his own business, a lifestyle business providing premium horticulture services for high end properties. He started in two thousand nineteen gross four thousand dollars and anticipate grossing twelve thousand dollars this year he has no debt. The only thing he owns he says, that is worth. Any money is an old pickup truck that's worth about three thousand. Is roughly eighteen thousand, five hundred dollars in his defined contribution plan and using the online tools on money for the rest of US plus. That, he's on track to retire in his early sixties. y'All says about two thousand dollars in a savings account pays two percent and about fifteen hundred dollars in a wealth front Robo Advisor. Account. He's living on about eighteen to twenty thousand dollars a year. After contributing to is defined contribution plan and health savings account, he brings home about twenty, eight, thousand dollars but that doesn't include is overtime bonuses or the work in his business. After taxes and contribution he estimates that he's bringing home about thirty, five, thousand dollars with everything, which means potentially he could save fifteen to seventeen thousand dollars per year and certainly ten thousand dollars per year. He writes for the first time in my life I'm not living paycheck to paycheck am planning for the future. The business I own. Now as a hobby passion, I turned profitable. It has been a great space for me to learn and have done a lot of just that but it ultimately is a glorified landscaping business. What they really want to own is a retail nursery that one day will become an event, an education centre as well. I turned thirty two months. I thought at this point I would go beyond an entry level position. I thought I would own my own house and maybe own a business full-time. Those goals seem so far away. The question I want to pose to you is, how do I get from where I am today to owning a five to ten acre property that can use to develop into my next lifestyle business as soon as possible Had An additional investment question that address in a few minutes. I he's not in an entry level position. He is a master, her cultures he's studied it. He learned a lot of those skills working at an organic farm and Tasmania. Got, his university degree. He was admitted to a professional horticulture program at the Public Garden where he works, he is very, very skilled in all aspects of landscape design and gardening. and. There are a lot of people that would be very envious that he has his amazing job working in horticulture and one where he can listen to a lot of podcast which he does. In order to answer question I want to compare to couples I know I've known for about a decade. This particular members approaching thirty. He's looking out over the next decade. What has to happen so that he doesn't have a lost decade and can reach goals I'm positive he can reach his goals.

Tesla delivers first Chinese-made Model 3 to customers

"Elon. Musk did a little jig at the Shanghai Dan Hi event today. This was coming. As a company was delivering its new china-made model threes to ten new customers and when the company announced that it's going to start production of the model y SUV at the plant. As well in fact yellow and Musket said that he believed the model why would have more demand than all the other Tesla cars combined. He also said that the two billion dollar China factory was going to be the site of future models. In addition to the model three and the model y The production capacity at the plant is currently one hundred and fifty thousand and the plan is to produce two hundred fifty thousand vehicles out of that plant a year. Now Musk's move comes at a time when the auto market here is slowing down. China's very aggressive subsidy program is also drying up and then of course there are the trade tensions tensions between the US and China however the public reaction so far has been pretty good and would be seen as positive by tesla. Most of the chatter has been in about how people don't really mind that the cars are made in China since most of the cars sold in China are manufactured in China and instead that most people are focusing on the price at forty three thousand dollars per vehicle for the model. Three of people are saying that this is good

"As I recall, age, helped me if I'm wrong English proficiency, whether each candidate has an offer of an employment above a certain wage threshold. We heard that an educational and vocational certifications, pledges to invest and create jobs would also be considered. Yeah. You know, the average yearly wage of legal immigrants. His currently approximately forty three thousand dollars a year. When you have immigrants admitted based upon occasion. And having averaged. Well, having averaged two better than average skills. Then they would have an average income household income of one hundred twenty six thousand dollars. And they would expect the average yearly wage of all immigrants. The to rise why they we about ninety six thousand. So this is all good stuff, and pardon me. I'm sorta stumbling around looking at my aunt's scrawled notes here. So the game for business. Is a little bit smaller been offered by the by partisan two thousand thirteen gang of eight amnesty. The amnesty Bill offered business groups. They would have been the amnesty. Bill back then offered the business groups. And all illegals in the United States, the possibility of amnesty based upon immediately and it would double the, the inflow of legal immigrants to two million. Then, again, this is not what's going to happen and provided the, the unlimited number of green cards for foreigners who got master's degrees from the universities ticked upward. So that was the gang of eight plan there's a little bit of that in this, but the resulting inflow of blue collar workers, and white collar workers would have slashed, salaries earned by the American middle class while boosting real estate prices in stock values on Wall Street had we gone down that road. Now, does this plan offer any extra things? Yeah, it does. And if you'll indulge me while we play a little bit of catch-up again. I'll tell you what those extra things are. All right..

Harleys New E-Hog Sports a $30K Price Tag

"Business wars daily is brought to you by Pitney Bowes, and send pro online shipping can be complex with the uncertainty over costs and deciding which carrier to use plus tracking your packages. Thanks can get confusing. Stay tuned to the end of the show to find out how Pitney Bowes and send pro online can save you time and money and to get a special offer just for listeners of the show. From wondering, I'm David Brown. And this is business wars daily on this Tuesday January fifteenth. That's the iconic sound of one of Harley Davidson's most famous motorcycles, the fat, boy, it's the robust macho sound the bikes traditional audience fell in love with long ago and still embraces. And this is the sound of Harleys livewire, which the company announced last week is set to become its first production electric motorcycle in its hundred and fifteen year history. Harleys trying to do something new here attract customers new to motorcycling keep its traditional base and impress investors who see the future of transportation as an electric one. That's not a live wire act. It's a high wire act. The new by gets good or bad design reviews, depending on whether you like the old school, look or the sport bike lines of the livewire. Thanks to its electric motor can go from zero to sixty in three and a half thrilling seconds much faster than a gas powered bike with no clutch or gear shifting the e hog should be easy enough for novice to ride but change doesn't come easy at a company. Best known for bikes that looked like museum pieces from the nineteen forties. The challenge for Harley is to grow new customers. Without alienating its rapidly aging base, which may help explain why Harley purposefully engineered an engine roar into the otherwise silent livewire, it may not be the potato potato of the old v. Twin still it's definitely loud and distinctive. But here comes the kicker livewire will debut at a price of almost thirty thousand dollars to quote, one motorcycle enthusiast thirty thousand for a motorcycle is an awful f-ing lot. And it is especially when compared to zero the leader in the electric motorcycle. World zeros entry level bike costs about a third of the livewire and some of its twenty nineteen motorcycles are rated to go more than twice as far on a single charge pricing, the livewire so high may simply have been a branding choice for Harley which is known for popping price tags. The new bike is only at the mid range of Harleys lineup after all top of the line can cost more than forty. Three thousand dollars far more than most expensive motorcycle from Indian its closest traditional competitor. But there could be another reason for the price altogether. It may be that harley's less interested in selling these new tech machines than in convincing Wall Street that the old barn shield knows. The marketplace is changing after all retooling factories for new electric bikes is expensive. And even though Harleys promised a range of new electrics by the middle of the next decade summit, Milwaukee's Motor Company would like nothing more than to tell ANSI investors. See electric box won't sell will see. All right. The rubber meets the road. When Harleys livewire goes live in dealerships this summer, hang on tight. Brom wondering this is business wars Taylor. We hope we keep thinking every day of the week. If we do share store you liked to rent went. Thanks. I'm David Brown back with you tomorrow.
