Cheap TVs for under $300

"For under three hundred dollars. Now I'm Jefferson Graham Ula Santa talking. Tech. If you were to walk into a target best buy or some other big box retailer and you really can't miss them the rows of those large forty, three inch and fifty insets selling for two and a quarter to three hundred dollars. Four K. with built in Roku? SMART TD. Two hundred and twenty five dollars you gotta be kidding me. Well, the sets are usually made by TCL, which has three of the top five on Amazon's TV. Bestseller list or insignia, which is best buys house brand. It has the other two spots on the Amazon Chart, and again, both of them have four K. resolution built in smart TV streaming, and they can showcase programming and HDR which stands for high dynamic range producing brighter richer colors. The best buy sets answer to Alexa while the TCL sets will answer to Alexa or the Google Assistant. So what's the catch? It's minor and it's obvious. The picture quality is not as good as the mid range and more expensive TV's. But I would argue that most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Now if you're sitting right in front of the TV, it's going to look amazing if you're on the left or the right for the far. Away. To look good unless you spend a grand most people don't WanNa, spend a grand they want to spend three hundred dollars that built in streaming player is quite the deal it sounds small, but it's huge. Now, the old way spent twenty five dollars to a hundred dollars for a Roku or Amazon Fire TV stick and connected to an open hd mice slot on the back of the TV. Put Batteries in the road control put the streaming remote control next to the TV remote control. Turn the TV on ADJUSTER HD my settings to streaming. Then pick up the streaming remote access and control the menu. Now the new way

Review: amazing TCL/Roku TV for $229

"Graham here with a question when the last time you bought yourself a new. Year after year. You know I've been amazed at the falling prices of sets that would garner seven hundred dollars two thousand dollars just a few years ago, and I just picked up a new forty three inch, T. C. L. set with roku built in for two hundred and twenty nine dollars. Two hundred and twenty nine dollars for a display that offers four K. HD, resolution and HDR. But forget about the acronyms I'm just amazed at what you can get now for two hundred bucks. I bought the TV for a non traditional reason to use it as a giant computer monitor to watch videos that I have edited on my laptop on my little sixteen inch laptop. So I paid fifteen dollars for a ten foot HD my cord. That's the Court of course that connects the TV to other devices and I connected it to my apple macbook pro. It went directly to the TV. I didn't have to spring for an additional twenty five to fifty dollars for a separate. Roku streaming player right so I saved money. The footage looks so great at forty three inches I had to wonder why anybody would go out and spend big bucks on a computer monitor a quick look on Amazon in a forty three inch LG monitor is upwards of six hundred bucks wow. So the other thing once I sit up the TV. I never had to plug in antenna cable box or anything defined oodles of programming. All I needed was a WIFI signal. roku screen name and Password and suddenly I had five hundred APPs available on the platform. A lot of them wanted money from me, but there was many that didn't there was so much free stuff I couldn't believe it. I mean I come from a generation that's used to connecting things to the TV whether that be streaming box whether that be an antenna whether that be a cable box. I mean this is amazing. I can act the nothing. so the APPS. There's the usual Pandora Hulu Amazon Prime Video Netflix's s on and on two big ones missing Hbo Max in NBC's Peacock. Financial negotiations, and then there's the roku channel which is a homegrown collection that supported movies and TV shows mostly on the older side. Batman bewitched movies like the perfect storm, dogs and cats. Crimson tide. And live news channels and these are really good from ABC. NBC and CBS. Accord cutters dream no cable needed. All you need is Wifi and you get more stuff than you'd ever Wanna see without connecting anything. So how cool is that? The picture quality I would rate as a ten for a two hundred dollar TV or five on the overall scale. If you're comparing it to the best of breed leads a fifty inch led from Samsung cost eight hundred dollars for the TCL set. You'll have to sit right in front of it. Turn the lights on low and not be on the sides and that way the pitcher will look its best for a savings of six hundred dollars I can do that.

All Nippon Airways Showcases New Seats

"Was that a vendetta. It was great. It was really great. It was right off brick lane in this event space which I had never been to before and they they had these sort of makeshift Goethe's wonderful pagodas you know as wonderful kind of arch ways that they have in Japan the they're usually read the gates thank you. That's the word I was looking for and in the middle of this space on a elevated platform they had a block of the four seats when they had many many many flight attendants in attendance to kind of brief you on how the seats work and the seats are oriented as a block for much like the Q. Sweets there facing each other okay the two seats and I was able to experience it they had the full power connected and the IFP say you could try it. It was very very very impressive. It was really really wide. CA's reminds me of the pictures of the Singapore Airlines that White Yeah if if not wider yeah yeah so you feel like you're in a sofa at home when you're sitting upright the whole thing isn't that why the Footwell tapers to allow for the other person's cubbies and cabinets that you have to your side as well. The screen is is huge crystal clear and the seat itself the padding which you see the as the seat is reclining. You can see how thick it is really really thick seat very very comfortable. The one thing I noticed that I sent to you immediately was if you sit straight and you recline the seat straight. There's no way that I could fit let alone somebody like you. It's it's very very short but then in all of the images the presages they have you can see the person sleeping at an angle and actually when I did that so I moved my head to the adjacent corner that my feet where plenty of runs so again like Singapore because Singapore I would unless I'm bulkhead but even I would usually sit in a diagonal would not sit up straight and the good thing since we're comparing that to that three hundred the old seat now is that he actually so reclines whereas the Singapore seats you had to stand up all aww yet to fold it. Oh that's good that's good what about the door is at high the doors High Yup and it and it comes across in like in the two sections that close together you felt very very private and secluded when you were in the even with a million people walking around you and a lot of noise oviously at an event it does oppose skies so the manufacturer is not the one from the queue sweet although there are of a billion ways to do a seat into fitted in dark ref at the end another day but the manufacturer is completely different and you had the chance to also meet the designer of the seat yes he was going to forget the name of the he built the Tokyo Auguin early this year and he also built the a a in Dundee as y'all which is an extraordinary building a very famous Japanese architect enables alludes because of course thank you yeah. He was very very nice very interested would speak to anybody not that you know that he would never wise but yeah he was he was proud of and he partnered with a London design agency to do and I must say that one of my criticisms of the previous was that it was very clinical lots of metal. Will we said that a lot of time and you know and that absolutely not the case anymore. They've kept however some of the blue color it kept the blue. It's it's much more understated understated it. It's it's an accent but it's it's beautifully done. It's very Japanese very a it's a very very strong seat. They're going to you really well with this what they didn't show or didn't have because it's rolling a little bit. Slower is the new first class yeah I said in the last ZIP is it that for me. It reminds me a little bit of the Swiss first-class which is very large cubicle elitest door. Were you able to even bits a bit like or none of the video playing and I was chatting to one of the cabin crew about it and she said that the news it has a forty three inch four K. screen TV. You'RE GONNA give you two and I said are you sure and then she showed me a brochure brochure of it and sure enough. I should never have huge the seat itself is is beautiful as well. It's lovely gray. They made saga job gets darker than the than the one in in business class which is often the case in Japan. If you cajoled they have darker colors I glass including the lounges compared to Business Glasgow Glasgow. Wow I mean holy cow. So are they not introducing because the reason you had that event was the two things they are opening the route with that seat now from London to two hundred but also I think it was celebrating may be used so that maybe I'm wrong. I'm not sure it was a thirty. That's rare anniversary running of the route. Yeah Yeah Okay so yeah. It was great. I met a few people that I've worked with a in the past who are really friendly. Johnny from the design air turns out he was there I didn't I didn't see him which is which is disappointing. I wish shame yeah cross pass but I think he he was as impressed as I was so it's a it's a great. I don't think you can go wrong in that route because a anna have a very good product obviously and so two gel so expensive however they are not but no one is no one is no no one no one is no one

"Insa Bastable, Dan, breaking there was a foot plan or some flood work done in the Barlow areas. My understanding I don't I'm not I I'm not really familiar with that. But here's one thing that does come up here. The amount of rainfall that this area God was was utterly phenomenal. There's one point that people talk about west of Healdsburg that got twenty one inches of rain over two days earlier this week in February it got forty three inches all told. And so this storm landed on top of saturated soil and a lot of the tributaries to the Russian river also flooded much more severely than typical because they had no way waited empty into the the main stem of the river. So that's. These huge surprise floods that happened in some areas and a lot of the damage throughout the county. Especially to the roads. I mean is really the result of a of a a huge unusual event. You're talking about saturated soils now they're supposed to be more rain have this weekend. How concerned should people in this area? B? This doesn't look like a big storm this weekend. It looks like the main focus of this will be to the south. And then there's another storm coming earlier next week. They'll probably bring more rain to the cinema county area north of the Golden Gate in general north bay. Again, it doesn't look at this point like the main focus of that storm will be a pure it'll be farther.

"Jefferson Graham, USA you're listening to talking tech today. We're going to dive into what happened to the prices of TV's. How did they go from thousands of dollars to hundreds of dollars? I just saw forty-three inch four K HD are smart TV from TCL with built in Roku at target for two hundred and fifty dollars two hundred and fifty dollars just a few years ago. This would have been in the seven hundred dollar range. There's a reason these TV's have gone down in price. One is cost the raw material costs have gone way down and the second would be the companies have figured out ways to make money off you once the TV enters your home, the TV is now a razor, and we are the blades. Let me tell you all about it. On today's episode. First of all, they're making deals with marketing companies programmers to basically snoop on you and to monitor your viewing. Every smart TV is a computer. Her. That knows what you watch. When you watch how long you watch. And even though they deny it. I think they know your age and your zip code, and I think they have some idea of your income level. That's just me. But you know, okay. So if you live in Bel Air, and you live in Beverly Hills, you probably make more money than somebody in Chattanooga, Tennessee. So that may be just sort of an obvious thing. That's one way the other way, they're making money on you is by showcasing so-called free movie and TV channels in very prominent positions and sharing in the ad revenues with the company, so Pluto TV has a free channel on video TV's called watch free TV it's showcases mostly old movies and older TV shows and has some live programming. Now. There's nothing bad in this that you why shouldn't video make some money on on ever touching since they sell TV's at basically cost. I think it's cool. And I think. That's how they wanna make money. I'd rather them sell advertising that I don't have to watch than really be heavily stupi on me beyond. Pluto to be is on many TV's. A company called Zumo is on L G T V's Samsung has their version basically, they've all got him the TCL TV's that are Roku branded have the Roku channel, and if you've ever seen any of the Amazon fire TV edition TV's, you know, they're dirty, and they would love to sell you things. Your shopping cart is one of the channels on this Amazon TB, I know because I have one even have a live shopping channel under the Amazon brand the good news about the snooping. Is that unlike the phones turning the snooping off is relatively easy, you go into the menu settings. And you just say, no, no, no. And thus the tracking is supposed to stop to tracking suppose the. Highs today upper thirties to lower forties. It'll be gusty out there as well as the wind start picking up. Now, it gets interesting overnight into tomorrow morning temperatures dropping down below freezing in a lot of western Washington. Most of us are going to find ourselves in the upper twenties to lower thirties. There will be enough moisture around where could find some snowfall overnight into Monday morning accumulations maybe a trace to three inches slushy at best. Most of it is going to be south west of Seattle, but we can't snowfall just about anywhere in western Washington. You might see it out there might not adept too much on Monday. "Like, I nothing is more disgusting in life to me than especially or then installation. Right. I just can't stand the Johnson roll around. I don't understand how he does is just disgusting. And you know, it'd be doing houses at some house. It's one hundred years old. Nobody's been in the crawlspace forever. And he'll just go in there and just like regular on there. Like this with wearing a t-shirt. Whereas how there could be rats that could be snakes. There could be buzzing with black spiders, which we've come across. And he just wriggled on. And that was always that way. He's always been like that Johnson as a little kid to he likes. He would like to just touch everything he would actually go in take my parents like clocks or appliances apart and not always put them back together. So shirt of grossing me, I always liked everything clean organiz in the way, it should be. And so even as a as an adult, I I don't like that dirty. I like demolition demolition fun. I used to like the dirty grimy side of it is they have, you know, installation falling from the ceiling into your hair and skin yet grosses me out, and you can also tell too because your hair high tight and Jonathan like he'll slick it back is longer. It's like he has used to have like we call them surfer, John because he had like the blonde highlights in the longer hair, which I should have magician Harry. Offensive here. So you can see all different that's his his sort of that persona sort of that like chil- contractor laid back guy for me. I'm sorta I go get her. I love I love sports. I like anything that's high energy painful for Jonathan will be going to the gym or I'll do like a midnight volleyball for two hours ago tournament after days weren't available. So many cities they have an indoor sand courts, and you can go and do like midnight leagues or or like tournaments. So I'm the guy has a barely five ten is not on the volleyball. You could be a great digger like the guy that picks up the first. So you know, that that you're going to be like the guy who evens out all the sand for all the players. You could also be that guy. I don't know the correspondent quidditch beater was that make me. I don't know. I don't know volleyball is I always every time. I played I was thought, oh, I can do this. And then the ball would catch the like the blade of my forearm yet. And it was excruciating. That's the one thing. I never understood what people are take some of the heavy an I hit hard. So I I was a middle blocker, but I could hit like a tank, and I had a big a big articles. I I have a bigger I used to have a bigger vertical than a lot of NBA basketball players forty three inches. "And man, it was like, you know, those were like the this. This is in the late seventies. But those were like the magical thing, right? Yep. Yep. Yep. They were I left it after the myself. I never bought a pair. But I knew that that if I had ever got any money. I had some ones man, my years would just be happy. Now. You know, what the weird thing about those is cheap today. Right kenya. Well, not necessarily audio files. I think you know, stays still value them. Bows is not that well respected, generally, speaking sailing, the saying, the audio files have you heard of no highs, no lows gotta be Bose. In fact, that's the point here. The Bose ninety one's required an equaliser they came with an equal remember that. Yeah. And you had to plug it into what's called the tape loop which hardly exists anymore. Receivers basically it routes the signal out of the receiver through this equalizer and then back into the receiver. So I it was required of this of these speakers. They don't work without that. I would guess in the intervening fifty years. Digital technology has allowed people to make better sounding speakers though. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. So it's more nostalgic. I have a friend. I have a friend who has got to bam's. He's got clips horns, you know. The giant speaker is, but it's more in a style thing because I bet you that that's stereo as good as it sounds isn't much better than a high priced modern. Well, that's different analog and digital. We'll talk about that another time, Scott Wilkinson home theater gate. More of your calls coming up. Leo laporte. The tech guy. I, you know, I kind of like the bows oppose Santa's little tubby, but I don't mind, I don't mind. Gets gets equalized. Right. I shall I shall give you the con-, my friend. Thank you. So very much. John in Florida had a CompUSA in Florida till till about a year ago radio shack, man, I I miss radio shack. Chum li. Yeah. Five hundred bucks for the power gate. That's I've seen it for less than that. That's the the power amp side of this and Eric duckman just sent something from Monoprix. Let's check out with that is fifty watt stereo hybrid amplifier. Oh, my God to bam. That's what I wanted to Banff for my surround speakers. And this gets to the point that that Leo, and I almost got to there and didn't maybe we'll do it next week. You know, the difference between analog and digital audio. You know, there are those who really swear by the sound of tubes to bams. Which which are certainly analog. There are those obviously who's whereby by the quality of vinyl, which is an analog audio source. I've even seen audio file shows some people still use reel to reel tape decks. And you know, okay. The question is does it sound better. Well, and the answer is does it sound better to you the bent that depends. I myself prefer the cleanliness of digital. And there are going to be audio files who complain about that. Well, it doesn't sound rich. It doesn't sound organic. It doesn't sound, you know, authentic or whatever. Yeah. Okay. That's fine. I don't like the hassle of dealing with LP's cleaning, caring for them carefully. And so on to bam's sure to bam. Sound great. They're typically very low power, but they are typically used with very high efficiency speakers. So that kinda doesn't matter. They do have a warmth to them, which in fact comes from distortion, and I prefer authentic at if you've listened to me for any period of time. You know that I I want my TV to be accurate. Not vivid but accurate accurately, portraying what the content creator offered or created. And I want my audio the same way. And I think digital delivers it better than analog now analog tubes. Anyway, certainly can sound good. And that we there we get into, you know, the whole human factors thing. But that is how I feel about that Mike be is asking any recommendations for forty three inch four K TV. Wow. Forty three inches for four k is pretty small. But there probably are some out there. I don't normally deal with TV's that small, and you might think white forty three inches small. "The affordable on news care radio act because six dan they have to pay a certain amount and the subsidize amount doesn't cover the cost so they are truly out in a hole and then she said tiny tim's crutches being taken away they he his crutches going to fall over poor tiny tim just gonna kill over there in the strict in fictional london in aging forty three inches that quick note unsigned itoman democrats if if nancy pelosi and democrats had their way remember tiny tim was the son of the crash hits in the story if the nc pelosi in clan had their way tiny tim never would have been born presumably he would have been aborted so that the crash hits could have moved to paris in indulged in a little body painting also worth noting in the actual story a christmas carol the government is not come in and take scrooges money and give it to tiny tim whole story is about how religious observance and adherence and belief in god and the value of christ at these are the things that drove scrooge to give money to the crash it that that it was it was scrooge as a private citizen who chimes in but again this is it's it's sort of like when barack obama was talking about trayvon martin was his fictional son if you have to resort to fictional character is in order to make a victims for your narrative you're not doing a good job politically just not doing real march are politically meanwhile the press and then doing their best to tear down this tax reform bill as well there are a couple instances on cable news yesterday that were truly insane katie tour over at msnbc actually questioned dave bratt i think as they bratt from virginia and a.

"On technology today what would you buy as your credits don't count how k question also got very very fancy a beefy laptops recently side technology so i would probably get a ridiculously large screen i don't like to have two screens much i manage it but i like to get everything i can on the biggest green pop the big when you have high have the forty three inch four k dell that's ends amazing amazing and it's only about fifteen hundred bucks so by three of be fully hidden behind them it's actually large enough that i'm going to put it on a mount slightly tilted towards me that top tipton because the corners are a long way away forty three engines a lot of screen but what it is one hundred dpi four k so you don't scale it actually use every pixel and yeah i was i used to have a thirty inch with a pair of wing monitor's on it that was forty nine sixty sixteen hundred which was awesome but having one monitor thirty eight forty by twenty one sixteen it's a beautiful place to being in great it's curve to right it's not kurt it's not the curve the largest curve they make a thirty eight and it's not a full for k resolution but i'm still i in one i you know you talk about the techies every day yeah spend money on your keyboard spend money on your mouse spend money on your monitor like those make the different is that dell us for an input it's got d ep display port is the best one the one point three display port but a pair of gm is and is vga anna dvi and it has an option to actually split into up to four ten eighty p screen right yeah one of the things i do when i'm recording run as shows is actually cut out one one of quarter of that screen to feed for another machine that's my sky channel to see that on the same screen with what i'm doing i do love this monitor like there month we've heard on dot in iraq's about this monitor probably way too many times but we're sorry about that but eric it's your turn what would you do with they enter the watched a youtube and and so that like at twelve thirteen year old kids or making a supercomputer by putting together get respite pie probably computing on that one bucks shots one hundred fifty five grand pc's in mak the closer for me and home so what what's involved in making a cluster out of raspberry pies that sounds intriguing to me what they did was dead that they buy that and then some lang cables and plug it together cables and you need to have a sweet show so one these acting as master data ones like a worker nodes and then they you you actually schedule the programming the process on multiple nodes in the recipe pie and that was the raspberry pies get graham so knowing york you'll be installing docker cooper nettie esther the mall your minion notes software that you use for this is what that's like a compute node and you can't install that rest period i think de version of raspberries it's not like it looks like one big machine though this mall ones that you making a supercomputer yeah yeah you have to actually write code do all the that's right yeah little flow motion studies to some people about parallel computing there's a dot net library that does.
