Equity Monday: Women's Employment Drops
"Goal. Stock markets are mixed. Asian markets are on the rise. Europe markets are slightly down and the us stocks were somewhat fought value of crypto currencies. Kind of looks the same. We saw some tokens and cryptocurrencies off. A few points this morning but not enough to start an entire twitter debate. The mixed feelings could be due to a lot of things first. Traders are back from the kitchen and analysts. Always have a ton of thuds. Some people think it's inflation some set. It's an upcoming european central bank meeting. But what i want to focus on is a less than ideal jobs report ready. Let's go. I'll start with the good news. We learned that in august overall unemployment declined to five point. Two percent from july's overall employment rate of five point four percent zero point two percent but i will take it because that represents a lot of people that now have paycheck coming in to their mailbox. That's kind of where the good news stops. Though this report we learned that the us economy added only two hundred thirty five thousand jobs in august which was a sharp drop from analysts expectations. But even looking at july's total which was nine hundred forty three thousand jobs to make matters worse fortune actually dig a little deeper and looked at the national women's law center. They say that women only accounted for eleven point nine percent of those jobs in august again. If you look at july women were sixty eight point eight percent of the new jobs. It's your reminder that we aren't back to pre pandemic level employment and that women are disproportionately leaving a now reentering the workforce at alarming rates.

The History of US Presidential Transportation
"First us president of any sort to fly in an airplane was theodore roosevelt. It was rather short flight as airplanes at the time didn't have a very long range and it was probably one of the more dangerous. Flights ever attempted by president sitting or former come over after this short sightseeing flight. Us presidents didn't do any flying. It would be another thirty three years before an actual sitting. Us president would get on an airplane. The first airplane designated for presidential use was purchased in nineteen thirty three it was a douglas dolphin amphibious aircraft and it was operated by the us navy as there was no air force at the time. The co name. It was given was r d two. It could seat four passengers and there was a small sleeping compartment. The interior was custom made for presidential use with leather seats. It was stationed at the anacostia naval airbase in washington. Dc until nineteen thirty nine and during that time it was never once used by the president to be fair. Fdr was in a wheelchair and getting in and out of an airplane especially a small amphibious plane was probably something that he wasn't keen to do however he did eventually take a flight the very first airplane flight by a sitting. Us president took place on january. Eleventh nineteen forty-three when franklin roosevelt flew on. The dixie clipper was a commercial boeing. Three fourteen clipper which was operated by pan. The flight was done in three stages any flu rather than took a ship because it was considered safer than risking german u boats in the atlantic after the trip the army air force didn't want to rely on commercial airlines for presidential transportation. They proposed the president. Use a modified. C eighty seven liberator express heavy bomber. The plane was dubbed the guess where to when the secret service reviewed the safety record of the plane. They rejected it. For presidential use. The plane was used for carrying the first lady. Eleanor roosevelt however on a trip to latin america. But it never carried the president. I realize it's the employee lounge where people eat lunch and like have breaks so there's a guy sitting there like eating food and i'm like hey man bathroom he's like all right back here and it's louis the next door over and it's kind of like a creaky open door so to it. It's one of the push doors right like it doesn't have an actual like mechanism of closing. It's just like a saloon door. Oh no i get into the into the bathroom. And it is like the the oldest nineteen seventies bathroom that you could even possibly imagine. There was a gap in the door. I'm not lying this this'll be like the latch hook like four inches wide like four three or four inches. Why were if. I'm sitting on the toilet. I'm watching you wash just like you are right now looking at why were bathroom. Doors ever design like. I don't know it was horrible. The stall was tiny. I'm a big do stall was like three feet by like five feet. So i'm sitting in this like coffin trying to go to the bathroom and again not a public pooper. So i'm nervous night. Might like again. This might be getting a little bit indelicate but like when you guys go to the bathroom like i don't want my shorts touching the floor where people p so like. What's the technique guys. Hold it half a bunch. It's a bunch of bunch like spread your legs out so you hold. It gave the knee. Yeah i mean you. You can be a bunch of at the knee. I don't mind letting them hang Like usually the there's enough give their where it's not touching the floor but so if it does them okay so i haven't bunched right and there's like some people walking by a hear them in the guys having lunch three feet away from me on the other side of this door lunch. It was the most horribly built place of all time. And i did my business. Whatever and i got out but it was such a weird experience of the guy just like being there having lunch having like a a greek salad while taking your wife up to all this tahini she was she was getting. She was getting sunscreen. And then waiting for me at the front of the line but again grocery stores like the size of the studio like there was like eight things in it. I don't even know if they had sunscreen. Unlike public would be totally fine with it. And you guys okay. Public ubu no really no no home base guy. Yes i am. Okay i mean. If i have to go i have to. Oh i need to be at home base or the place that i'm spending the night right like if it's a hotel if it's somewhere that i'm sleeping that's where i'll go but there was a time where i was in connecticut when i was working at. Espn my wife. Then my girlfriend came up and we were gonna go river tubing very exciting summer connecticut river to. It's a place called devil's mouth or devils something and it is northern connecticut but like nothing around right like so we're driving. We're in the middle of nowhere for like thirty minutes. And i'm like oh my god. I need to go to the bathroom. We're about an hour away from my apartment. I'm like. I'm not gonna make it anywhere like i need to go some somehow some way at the entrance of where the river tubing is. There's like a little tiny very sad. Nineteen sixty strip mall devils landing. Thing is what. It's called devil's landing and i couldn't even tell you. The grocery stores like a very sad family grocery store and i walk in and i'm like hey. I need to use the bathroom. Where's the bathroom and they're like. Well it's through this door and then it's two doors after that to the right customer customer for my wife went into by like a sunscreen or whatever was okay so i walk into that first door. I realize it's the employee lounge where people eat lunch.

Because you had to go a nasty thing. What is the place if you're targeting a place to go to to use the bathroom because you're just not gonna make any hotel any heard that multiple times. I've done that before. I don't pass many hotels but like fear. My fear of going my fear of going to hotel would be that like. I'm not allowed or that there is. There's yeah i need a key or something like that. There isn't one that's commonly available on the first floor. So you've gotta you've gotta know that there's definitely a bad but there is. That's the thing. There's always a bathroom on the first floor because the the people that work there have to go to the bathroom at some point and there's not like employees bathrooms bathroom so my brother-in-law who does a lot of sales stuff on the road. He goes up to like palm beach. Naples goes to different places and he always says the best place to take a shit. If you're on the road is at a hotel you walk in like you own. The place make a pitstop quickly at the bathroom. It's always clean because nobody uses it because everybody goes to the room and use the toilet in their room. I lost during the trip harbor or yes right before we sat down and have dinner. So that's three hundred bucks gets. I need to calm down And so i had a very conservative necessities right now. No splurging but what i said to you. When he was discussing his lobster. Mac and cheese was what percentile of the menu. Would you order from. Meaning let's say the cheapest thing on the menu which like as an entree. Let's say it's the chicken fingers Most expensive thing on the menu is a tomahawk steak. Yeah tomahawk steak. And let's say the chicken fingers are eighteen dollars in the tomahawk. Steak is seventy two no man. That's a cheap tomahawk. Shakeout actually okay. But it's inexpensive tomahawks. Six one hundred eighty two hundred eighty bucks so you go in between twenty and one hundred and eighty. What's the percent. What's the most expensive thing you're if you're on someone else's dime. What is the most expensive thing. You're comfortable ordering how well do i know. The person took billy's example. He's your boss. What i would do is. I would let him order i or her order. I it'd be like hey. Why don't you take the lead like after you know. I tell him you know what i'm not ready yet. You gophers oh good call and then they go and then if they go. You know i'm going to get the seventy five dollar filet mignon. All right. i know. I can work seventy five and under always go under. What new york. Yeah you're working like sixty five at that point and got a new york strip sixty five bucks were happy we ended up ordering the same thing But i i should. I have not ordered i. Yeah you always go last. I think tony's is giving great advice. Here which is what people say. I'm not ready yet. Have you not made a decision. But now that's a great excuse not ready up right. Yes told you. I got a burger. It was like a But there was is like a burger. But i think that they said that there was They say that was in it. I think was like pork in the burger. And there's all kinds of stuff. I don't know what it was a mixed. I didn't know what half the stuff on the menu was. So i went safe really. Let me order something. That i know what it is but what did you not know what it was because of what reason like egypt didn't you've never seen it before or you just didn't like it. I just didn't know what it was. It was words but it wasn't words that i normally have word you know. I'll let me for now. So chris is actually not here because he's at one of these lunches yes and so i really strikes me as someone that go if he goes into a knowing like this on. He's gonna do his thing he's gonna go. I recently had lunch with. Chris and i was astounded at the amount of information that he took in. Because once i once i sit down at a menu i recognize all right. I think i'm gonna want this. I very rarely entertained. The other options laser in. I'm lazy. I'm very focused. When it comes to ordering food. chris was like well. what's that. oh that's interesting. oh the like. We went to like a mediterranean place around here so like what kind of sausages as asking questions and you can all that. Yeah it was. It was actually. He's like really. I'm glad i asked. All these questions was really good but he. He absorbed a lot of information before making his decision. I'm actually appreciative of chris. An order you just sat there looked at him to get the Yeah whatever and i got it and that's it no second thoughts no like. I should've gotten some knows now. He was pleased with decision. No you owe me. Yeah no no because it was that. Was that like a place on like south beach like the touristy part of south beach and for me everything is the same amount like eating ethnic food. I'm just gimme a burger and let's get outta right. He was like you know it looks like full on getting into. Oh what's that. Where's that going back. And i'm like googling. Googling names of sausages. I've never read before all that to help them out like it was a full ordeal as burger king. Gto with the menu. Have the menu all right so the lunch menu. Which apparently they have different menus. I didn't know that. Yeah everybody's but they have okay but they have. They have obviously different sections. They've appetizers which. I wasn't gonna order appetizers of meal. Even though i've done that before you guys didn't split in appetizer for the table beforehand. We didn't know Would you have now. I mean the the the burger was pretty filling then this garden bites which obviously is Salads but it wasn't gonna order ni- no salad into south. We gets his sandwiches or means right. Then we're gonna order aside either. The means are. I don't even know what this word is right here. I guess that's a name some sort of fine fried chicken like thirty bucks dollars. Somebody's name that what the name is llewellyn's fried chicken chicken wing twenty bucks for chicken wings. How many well the thing is. Is that chicken wings are out at a business lunch at a meeting. Chicken wings around. That's i think i agree with that. I'm not gonna do finger food at a meeting and get my fingers all all dirty i guess. And then we get to the lobster. Mac and cheese as you see there. No price m. p. m. p. is not a good thing to do that. Not gonna do it. Then we have some saint louis ribs thirty six bucks but again finger foods ribs awesome on sherman grits thirty bucks. Yeah so we were in tahoe and the day after the pro ams are evening after the pro-am which is when stu gods and the guys played. We didn't really realize how busy everything in lake tahoe strip as it were and by the way we should send our thoughts to everyone. They're going through big time. Fires and evacuations and all that so hope everyone there is okay but the the strip as it were of lake. Tahoe is not really that many hotels not really that many restaurants. It's the hard rock it's harvey's it's harrison. That's basically it was warm on the corner. There's one more but those are essentially the big ones not a ton of restaurants but all of the goings on of lake. Tahoe or happening on. Was it wednesday night. I think it was the thursday friday night. Okay it was the day before we were about to leave. Yeah it's a good point. Yeah you graduated Speaking of business meetings people in town agassi's as you could hear skip and his escape coming in and we've had meetings this week And we were talking off air before we started. It's on the house will not in the house but own company. Let me go a little bit higher or do you go a little bit lower because you have bana. It's tough because you and we were talking about this. But i'm not a medium so it's a little little snug but still he adds company really it's comfy even though it's a little snug shouldn't the default underwear or t shirt or anything that comes in box be a large. Yeah yes yes. Yes yes. Because i think even someone who wears a medium can wear a large so whereas an extra large. There's a chance a little tight. A medium is really limiting the pool of people that can use a product. If you're just. I'm sending this blindly to someone. I'll give away stadium. Giveaways should be all exactly. It's a huge like tents and then this square. Like when you wasserman the shrink. They also change shape and become like they get shorter. This way like the lengthwise all of a sudden they start writing up your belly. I think that the most underrated thing that sports team can do is put a little bit of effort into a higher quality giveaway. Dolphins once did a shirt that was like dry fit. E i wanna say it. One hundred percent dreyfuss goes from that material. It was really good quality and i went to every game for five years. They probably gave the shirt away. Twenty sixteen four years later. You still see it. You still see that shirt because it was that good of quality yeah whoever sponsored that gets way more bang for their buck because actually put their logo on a good shirt inter miami also giveaway really nice black shirt recently. Forgive away that. I have. And i've used fairly often putting extra money towards a giveaway. Maybe fewer we put more money into them. Either you get more bang for your buck and your fans appreciate it. Shows that you care soda. Yes care i think anything. Dr is good right like if a team's giving away a dry fit something or other that's great but and you're gonna keep it and you're going to keep using it fifty times as opposed to there's some giveaways wear one and a half and i don't even feel comfortable wearing it around the house anymore. It's just a tattered. You could see the threads has complete outta here no more cotton. Yeah let's get out of cotton at that here. Yeah yeah like dusting right. Yeah right exactly. I've said that all my rags are t shirts so the best rags And there are other mostly stadium. Giveaways I didn't realize you're wearing a cotton shirt billion. Sorry am i am. Yeah that looks good material. That looks comfortable. It was actually given to me as i'm actually cotton were too. Yeah i like cotton. I'm mccartin really yeah What do you think the next material. I'd prefer to go where nobody knows my name on. Really what would that be really so let me ask you questions where you want everybody screaming your name when you get there like now. Now here's the level of celebrity. Wanted to place they know your order. No i th. There's a couple of places i walk in. And they don't even have to ask me really. They just know they know. Arizona Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury on Hot Seat?
"All right my friend. We've covered three quarters of the national football league and we save kind of the best for last as far some of the most competitive divisions in the national football league so we may as well starting out in my neck of the woods relatively speaking with the arizona cardinals who find themselves pain as six to one hundred dollars to win the nfc west. This season their win. Total sits at eight and a half. You do have to lay a buck in a quarter if you wanna go. Under that total third season in the valley of the sun for cliff kingsbury last two years of tailed off in the latter. Half of the schedule. When you look at how this team performed. They lost six out of their final nine games. Second year in a row as we said they fallen apart down the stretch. Arizona elite league and penalties and you begin to worry about the decision making enga- management that oak liffey boy has shown since taking over last winning season for this franchise came back in two thousand fifteen where they were pummeled by the panthers in the playoffs but point differential last year plus forty three best amongst teams. That didn't finish with a winning record. Missed out a postseason berth. By virtue of a tiebreaker is the chicago bears edge. Them out schedule though starts all away from home where they'll play three or four on the highway to kick things off when you look at the arizona cardinals pain. We know it's all about the offense but they've also made some pretty good editions at least in my opinion on the defensive side as well arizona's tough for me to gauge. And it doesn't help that. They're playing in this division. Which is probably the most competitive and i don't really know i'm sold on kingsbury yet. And we've mentioned this number a couple times over the years but i think it's really interesting because it's mind blowing. You can get an nfl job with a resume like kingsbury. He was twenty three and forty at tack if you remove. Fcs opponents and kansas from his record. So it's really interesting from that

Maybe once a year like there's a reason this guy is still a great. Nfl quarterback and a super bowl champion at forty three and looks by the and looks the way he does because he's totally takes care of himself and if you've read his book at all but he is just when it comes to nutrition and what he puts in his body. It's i so careful with it and it's almost like a feel like while it's a fun video and everything almost feel like i'm violating his privacy by by watching video of this guy deserves opportunity to do this and it's almost too bad that the whole world has to be looking at it and snickering at it. "Of the like themes that keeps emerging on the show is this like beginner. I think designer mistake. Weird like designing and avoid like. You're at home goods and you're just kind of collecting all the things you love. And there's no like common thread or theme or story so that starting places so key It's really important to create. This is so easy now that everyone has a computer in microsoft word or i mean. If you know photoshop you can do it. But what i told people is if you're just starting out in let's say you're doing your apartment right in your on the super tight budget. We've been there by no means do am i just design fancy desire by no means that i have like five hundred dollars to do my college -partment right. What i want to do at home is starting out with your concept. Okay and then put all of the pieces that you're interested in on a concept board and get take that were with you when you're shopping and when you're at home goods and you're ready to do those stupid impulse purchases. Take that word out and be like. Is this gonna vibe with my vibe and if not put it down like i can't tell you how much did at target and homegoods ikya just on this little impulse purchases like other cushion but it can go with anything your house. You know who so. I think that will help a lot of you know that extending allow you to save up for this really special items may be utah out of your budget. You'd be surprised how few rain in those impulse purchases house saving. His moustache lightens is easier. Yes my gosh. That's so beautifully put when you say it. It sounds so obvious. But that's definitely something. I struggle with so hard told me this dog will. What am i going to do. A federal by this dog role. I it's in the air. they try. they try to say you know. Stick with your list. Stick with your concept word and then there are great finds there. You found some really great things that were with my. I try to stay true to that. Naccache excited put everything your car. I love that so much so we talked a little bit about finding like some examples of info pieces like the flower or the photo. What are some of your favorite places that you draw inspiration from is kind of like all over the place or do you of go to things that really deeply inspire you know. Of course. let's be really honest and frank. Kerr pinterest is though. It's great so i will say that if you're on your this first few hundred pages of pinterest. It's the same stuff right so if you're different you're going to have to do a deep dive so we like to say is find that you know chair. They love or find that whatever it is. Maybe you're really intimate century right. And you figure out the name of a charity like deep dive into that and then that will take you to other really interesting rooms and you'll get away from the disorder sort of stuff. You're seeing everywhere so good if you're willing to sit down into a deep dive. I like to olds. Who books like books real hard. You know find a designer or topic. You're interested if you want farmhouse than you know. Do some searching on amazon worse. Farmhouse designed books. You can get great inspiration from those pages that you know. A lot of that stuff is not on pinterest. So you're knocking not everywhere. I did a lot of inspiration. From austin is what the color palettes that are happening. How close structured is everything floral and saucers everything sharp edges. And how they feel about that and is gonna translate into if i hit more curved items or you know i think you start to develop your style when you're pulling things because people don't realize that they have their own patterns that emerge and with our clients do a pinterest board for us. They'll say we'll do. I need to tell you what i like in each picture. And i know 'cause i can tell if it's repeating throughout what you're picking so. I think that happens with with regular people to start picking me compile. Tear things out. Taxings things up. And you'll start to see a pattern and then you can kind of narrow it down from there right. I feel like part of your job as a designer. Obviously like did these beautiful spaces but there's another level of like really kind of like helping your clients figure out who they are style wise. And that's something. I feel like that when you can do that artfully like. That's when you get the coolest spaces. What does that process. look like. You mentioned the pincher sport but is that where you start or there's a consultation like what is that. Look like when we you know. Most of our artists are really large-scale right. So we're starting with these people when maybe they're buying a dirt lot and we're having to design their home from the ground up right and then we're not only designing interiors. Were signing all the finishes fixtures and then all the furnishings so the first thing like to do is save them from themselves right because we're giving them everything they're asking for the help that they need for right so the first thing we do. Is we through these. These pinterest boards. We asked them to pull some images. Maybe ten twenty images. It's really all we need. We start to see a pattern of what they like. And from there we say. How can we take this and make it cool. It's not a cool right having to take this push their boundaries. How can we take their level to wholeness and make it a level head right if we see that there it into brass. How do we rain that in. Say okay will. This house has to have longevity. What ross isn't trending in six years right. How do we incorporate those things that we see. They're gravitating toward in in a way. That will live with them for a long time. So a lotta times. it's really just pushing their boundaries. And saying you know. I see that you posted. A couple of pieces of contemporary are either boring but how these bright suit. Our job is to take them right. The edge of where they would say. I never would pick back but i actually love that. That's what you wanna tried. Do to yourself. If you're at home right. You know i do. I love this. I know everyone has this chair. But i found this chair. His kind of weird ways hungry woman. So you know. How can you get outside that that box of trends and really do something.
