Frank Gore passes Barry Sanders, hits No. 3 spot on NFL's all-time rushing list

"I'd like to talk about a player on the bills. Offense the man they call the inconvenient truth Mr Franklin Gore now I understand that people who watch the NFL are generally loyal to teams and not players and that everyone has different allegiances. But the fact of the matter is if you don't root for Frank Gore at this point you're just wrong I'm sorry but those are the rules. Gore has been in in this league for fifteen years and on Sunday he passed Barry Sanders to move up to third on the all time rushing list another gift decor by drew over the left side. He gets closer. The first down is down at the forty one yard line. That's a gain of seven and that is enough record is now the third all time leading rusher in NFL history. How about that? You saw it here today folks along with Emmett Smith. He's one of just two running backs to start in over two hundred games with remarkable. Not only because he's thirty six years old when he began colleges quarterback Josh Allen was five but because he's conquered so much for those who are unfamiliar with his life. The story. Here are the broad strokes core grew up in poverty and his mother suffered from addiction. He overcame severe learning disability to get to college and once he got out there he tore his ACL twice and yet fifteen thousand two hundred eighty nine yards later. He still here about a year your ago. I was asked to participate in an NFL insiders panel where we argued why various player should get into the hall of fame. I made the case for Gore. Are The reason why he isn't a shoo-in is that despite his longevity he's never really achieve dominance at his position which I understand but even if he was was never the best he has always been great historic matters deeply to the league into everyone. WHO's been fortunate enough to watch him play? So here's hoping he makes it to sixteen thousand yards.

"We're going to get to the Knicks and their season ticket pitch in just one moment. We're talking football. Bart. You were just talking to Tiki barber out in the hallway. And he said what was like, hey, listen. Taller than me. So that puts them closer to five ten and five nine. So that's interesting because he's five ten then that puts them closer to Russell Wilson. Then Doug Flutie. So now all he has to do is put on a ten more pounds. It's easy to do. You put them Powell he's gonna lose his quickness, he's not going to lose his explosive ability to run with the football. But also five ten to nine to fifteen that's a little tailback. That's that's there's no way that he would be foregoing major league baseball. If he didn't think he was I I ran pick right because the type of money that he's giving back. Now, should I should. I you bring up a great point. You have the figures go so he's going to he's going to get back one point two nine million. And he forfeits three point one six March first scheduled to receive from the Oakland. Okay. And so he will have just been coming off the combine at that point for combine. Ending February twenty six I say, so listen, he's gotta be feeling like he has a sheri- is that he's going to be a first round pick marash was making a big a good point big giants fan that he is the more quarterbacks in the mix. You think helps the giants? Kyla Murray's in the mix. If the giants aren't in on him, if he's going to be at the top of the draft, which I would imagine he's only declaring if he thinks he is that's good for the giants because any other quarterback needy team that throws more efficient upon that. Maybe the giants if they are zeroing Haskins false them at six, but that makes more people move up and want to jump into as well could make the supply and demand. There's more supply the sticker price could go up on how much it takes to jump. Listen, obviously. The jets are in a good position here at Arizona at San Francisco are planning on doing but trying to get up that high to get your guy because listen, we just know you're gonna fault people fall in love with quarterbacks because the combine and all the pro days, they are tailor-made to make the quarterbacks look as good as this thing. Right with the whole the giants situation if they say, okay, they if they miss out on. Ask because they think that Murray's not there guy, then they're going to go to the season, which they believe that they're going to have a better season with ally. Right. So then they're not going to have a high draft pick. So now eventually the giants will have to give up two first round to spend two first round draft picks, maybe more twenty. Yeah. Or in the near future to get their quarterback in the future. Price could meet the bunk of myth here for a second. We keep we keep knocking keep knocking Eli rightfully so if we keep saying, well, if they go into the they're not gonna have a high draft pick they've drifted third and sixth and back to back years with Eli. Why wouldn't you think that they'd be in the top eight again if he likes quarterback next year? Are we are? We are. We don't we suppose that maybe Dave Gettleman here too will be able to fill this roster with a little bit more talent, a little more death, isn't that what we're kind of operating under that declining quarterback that keeps playing for another year isn't gonna continue to get worse. And you're gonna continue lose games on a big fan, but come on they're drift. Doggy la. But already going are they going to be conversation? Pops key lime. But the thing is even if they are bad again next year. Are they going to be worse than than Arizona already going to be worse than Oakland? Or are. They going to be worse than Miami. Those are the things you have to consider too because they can be bad again, but are going to be bad enough to still be a position to get a quarterback. They're bad this year. Those teams should all be addressing their quarterback situation. It'd be better than the giants. Next year Zona has their quarterback. Have anybody else? They don't have holes to fill high pick. They have a bunch of holes. Both is going to go there. Even if they're above the giants that aren't gonna be looking for quarterbacks. We're not worried about it. Somebody but somebody's on trade with him. All right. Let's go back to the phones. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. We got a lot on the table for you. We got the jets with the new family affair that's happening in the front office or excuse me, the coaching staff Adam gazes, father-in-law it and now Greg Williams hiring his son, Blake Williams. We have the giants. Whether you think they should be in on Kyla Murray. We got the af did you watch it. What you like what you not like Georgia's and Long Island, George, what do you think? What do you wanna talk about everybody? And I think the. Tell you what he did a great job he sold himself. And guess what? We gotta fill a good that we really don't need right now. Affect decision by keeping the GM. And now look where he brought especially when you have the guy who coach group, they I forgive myself, but he met with what you would have watched ability. He would've bought a conscious effort, and he would have four coaches who wanted to wing Mike McCarthy McCarthy artery. George listen. I mean, bartender nodding along with you. Don't dove any listen, I thought it was a little shocking was retained I did. I was one of those people that thought. All right. You're at a turning point in your organization or you have one hundred million dollars. And you need a new head coach the idea of keeping your general manager at a higher the head coach. And then if you don't like either the draft picks are how the jets work the draft or if any of these big free agents turn out to be bust. Well, mcadam is going to be out. So now, what do you do with gay, Sarah? Now, you're going to be looking for new general manager and arranged marriage. We've seen this how this plays out. And it usually does end very pretty and for the jets, you know, obviously there is that mentality, and it's waiting for the other shoe to drop and I'm sorry. But I'm saying this as someone who roots for a team in the bills are also waiting for the other shoe to drop all the time. You're always thinking about the negative and honestly jets fan schlumpy thinking negative this time. And and the fact that these new coaching hires kind of puts a little bit of a damper on what has been a very. We feel good story for the New York Jets. And here's the problem. You're free agent. Rina's you want to deal with this. You wanna come into this? I thought defensive players wanted to play for Greg lays. Yeah. But I wanna play I wanna come to environment, whereas potentially are infighting within like so now like, okay, this guy is your coaches your linebacker coach he's your defensive line coach, we're sitting in the means you can tell the he'll like him. And it's like you got to figure out who you pick. This is to you can't be transparent with both of them. You gotta talk a certain way over here can't talk openly over here. Rarely it's going to have an effect on. I wouldn't want to come this. Because it looks like a mess again. Right. It's like, okay, I'll play for Greg Williams. But now it looks like his his side of the ball is compromise because he got to deal with somebody. That's mitch. No, let's go to Mike bridge. Either way. Each other, Mike and Bridgeport, Connecticut. Hey, mike. Hey, how's it going? Oh, thank you. Question. Were you brought the point about, you know, saying how elite for like the underside? That. But just a question for both. You would you see the NFL even behind closed doors coming in saying, hey. I kind of like what that guy show, but you can you show him different technique or put them at this position. Or see how he does stuff like that? Ever see interesting. The public about it. Well, well, I can see that. But I think you just you're going to see all different types of defense and disciplines because you have real former defense coordinators. I know I still trying to figure out what this legal formation is on defense trying to figure that out. I'm thinking they don't want guys come with these complex overload blitz. And tearing their quarterbacks up because they don't have enough quarterbacks to begin with. So I think maybe that's what it is. Because I saw Dennis Thurman got called for it twice. It was like a zero blitz where he covered up to lime and on the same side. And you can't block it that way. So I don't know what that is. But what I do love about. This league is also could be a testing ground for the NFL. Right. I love the fact that I can hear what the referee is saying to the replay referee is saying to the referees on on the on the ground. I think that's a beautiful thing. I think transparency there was really nice to see right here. You have the referee and there in the booth and everyone's miked up. And so he's saying listen, you know, he only had one foot down didn't secure the football. That's going to be an incomplete pass. We're going to go back to the forty one yard line or whatever. And I think the NFL should do something like that. Because I think it will go a long way in creating tapping down some of the outrage that happens over these calls. I mean, listen nothing's going to help what happened in the saints game in the NFC championship game. But for the run of the mill other things what's a catch. What's not a catch at least they can walk you through their thought process. I mean that would have changed the saints game too because buzz down from the top now, yo you just miss helmet-to-helmet ages miss pass interference. So even if we don't want to give it you. We send it. Okay. We don't. We don't adjustment. Call. We call the passenger fares. We got a call the helmet-to-helmet saints ball I down game over everybody's happy. Somebody's got corrected. The right placement called. We don't have this controversy. I also like. They never really took a full commercial break. Those live look in breaks things were moving really fast. The game was moving fast. And I'll listen, obviously, the NFL sells ads that are way more expensive than assuming what the af is getting. And so the NFL there is a more vested interests to make that game four and a half hours as opposed to the game just being about two hours and change. But that was very nice as a viewer experience. I did like the fact that the coaches were miked up, but then I felt like at times and this can be corrected easily. But coaches were talking and saying interesting stuff, but the announcers were caught talking over them. Like at one point Mike Martz was talking about changing his quarterback. That's probably the most interesting thing that's going to happen at the game in the beginning of the fourth quarter, yet the broadcasters. I feel like worse. They're still talking and the coach is talking and that kinda slip through the cracks like that's what you want. That's the gold of of having guys, Mike. But obviously that could get corrected. Let's go to Andrews in port Jefferson. Hey, Andrew, what's up? Megan Barth, thanks for taking my call. You got a little worried you I can answer it can snag on Friday thought you said you would flag may cause I disagreed with you guys on Eli manning marash. Are. Fearless producers last call screener, let you throw in. All right. We're going to give you thirty seconds go, I truly appreciate that on the twenty five. Listen Eli manning is the giants quarterback next year. I think that they look at it as the next two years as well. If a guy like katelyn Murray or or. Pulse. To the giants at six I would take. But I would not trade up. They have so many holes on this roster man, not the biggest hole, and we have to rebuild our team right now, not focus on one position and give up on the all right? Andrew good. We're friends again, you can call back anytime you want. It is the quarterback. It's it's not just any run of the mill position. You got to set yourself up for life after Eli? Of course, the defense is the glaring need. Of course, you allies not to be the worst part of the team. It's the defense and not saying he's a bad part. But he's thirty seven at some point is bison breakdown. Nobody's saying that with TB twelve but you just don't know you have to address it. And if you don't you're always going to be chasing one or trying to address the situation. Let's go to Nick and Smithtown sorry Barton, Nick and slipped down. You're up next on CNBC. What's happening? I do that doing great, man. How you doing? Good. Quickpoint. Now everyone's skeptical about the the jets the coach. One of the biggest floors Todd Bowles had was that he had no character or personality. You're like this is what we have now. Not at your personality. Got some crazy on the offense. We're nutjob..

Goes out by the blue line a shot broken up in front that over right wing side predators three on one. If they hurry comes over since. See you later Peterson predators. Take a four Joe Lee. What a nice little one touch backhanded Colton citizens. Great effort all around it's capitalize. And that's a big goal. Huge goal. So Yosi insistence at thirteen forty one yard croak his tenth of the year, and the predators a four one lead. "Great guests break conversations. Great time. Hey, listen, man. They're not dead until. All over both of us what a boulevard for the pats and the dynasty. And we're getting tired of watching them when it was ugly. But it was so many ways of masterpiece agreed BT. So all the narrative that you've heard is this. This was one of the worst Super Bowls ever other worst Super Bowl ever was probably the one that was right here around the corner. From us at the Meadowlands forty three to eight Seattle Seahawks over the Denver Broncos were they just snatched the Peyton Manning sold the first two series safety in and it was just the first series. They had they were three and out after three completions. It was that was a horrible. Superbowl wasn't fun to watch this engaging in a in an odd way. We've been conditioned to wanna see scoring we talked. We talked about this after that that. One on on Thursday night or Monday. He was just like come on. They're going to be any defense. But hell. That was thousand yards at one hundred points. That was great, right? That's what we got conditioned to this year in particular because offense was explosive. We had all these great young quarterbacks in new schemes. But to me this was Bill Belichick and a culmination of what he's done his entire career you go back to when he was the giants coordinator. And he won those two Super Bowls one against the bills against that vaunted. Buffalo Bills offense, he ate Thurman. Go do thing we're going to take away everything else. Guess what Jared Goff? Good luck trying to do your thing. We're gonna take away your run game. And it was executed expertly. If you ask me like they didn't make mistakes, they were very patient. They were very confident than when their time came to have to make a play. They were going to make those play. Whether it was the interception that Stephan Gilmore had at the end of the game. True. But it was great fresh air. They made the play whether it was Tom Brady has gone on a touchdown run. And as is Tony Romo aptly described there in the same play three times in a row. And eventually, they got the Matt's. If they wanted with gronk, and he do it right down to the goal line. And Tony Michelle runs it. And it was it was to me it was beautiful because it was exactly what Bill Belichick wanted. He didn't have to improvise drew up a game plan. They outcoached out developed this this Rams team and then openly executed them when it matter. Well, obviously give you guys a chance to jump in eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven on Twitter. Tiki and Tierney one eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. I enjoyed it. The aesthetics. Listen, come on at one point. There was I think the Rams pumped at eight straight times. Yeah. We're not going to get on the air and say, this was a masterpiece in a lot of ways it was it was if you're a fringe fan. You're like I got tangible von yeah. But the the intrigue the compelling nature of the game is that. And I think what's so frustrating for the for that feeds into the anti patriots, sediment. And there's a lot of people, and I have fun with this. I at the end of the day what I have to I always genuflected their brilliance you have to and their accomplishment. I take my little jabs. They cheated Deflategate this that the other thing, whatever they get a little lucky, you know, Mahomes never touched the football that over time. And even some of the ways in which they've won before I get I get all that. But but what does bother me a little, and I don't think I'm alone. Here. All you had to do was score fourteen points guys in their great. That's all you had. But see this is all that. This is what I was just saying if they if they would've needed to adjust if the pats had all of a sudden been down by ten point you'd think they would have pulled out. Changed they to change their philosophy. Right. And this is why I talk about this this this was their game plan. This is exactly what they wanted to do. We're going to keep an extra guy around the box that we're gonna frustrate Jared Goff. So we can't run the ball that play action nonsense that allowed them to push those big plays downfield. We're going to take that away. Jared stand in the pocket and make make throws do he made some? Brandin cooks at one hundred twenty yards. There was nine that. He threw right? There was he he looked good at moments, but he also missed a lot in nineteen of what thirty eight and two hundred and twenty nine yards. That's not going to get it done against the defense. It is daring you to go be perfect. Any wasn't. And so that's exactly what Bill Belichick and Brian floors is game plan was and on the other side. The pats do with the pets do which is gonna keep getting first downs going to get a first down here. I and we're gonna pot made him sweat. Even those little BT was rattled. And Brady was all I'm not saying I'm not saying that this was this was ideal wasn't desirable. But this was their game plan. They were they were determined not to make a mistake, and they were going to wait and to the Rams made a mistake. And when they did they capitalize isn't that their ultimate beauty. I mean, I don't I don't care. What sport, you know? If you have a great baseball team. Can you win the one nothing game? She can win the nine two six game. You know, if you're the warriors of. If you're in a muck it up kind of the game and the guys get saddled with fouls. We know you could score one hundred thirty can you win one hundred one ninety seven if you have to. And that's you know, you gotta admit that's the beauty of the pats their diversity their ability to win so many different types of way, they are. It's not easy and the goat after the game talked about it not being easy playing with Bill. Bill Hicks Typos makes it a, you know, it's a challenging football environment is pressure is always on and for moments like this because you've got to rise to the occasion, you rise to the occasion you make a play Tom Brady at tied. Three three had to have a drive in the fourth quarter. You a drive in the fourth quarter. Did you expect anything else? They they exactly they had a they had a shot backed up. They had that they had to have a drive to close out the game. We call it four minute offense run out the clock. Keep prevent the other team from getting the ball back and score. What did they do? They start the five yard line of a big run by Sony was shelled Sheldon a big run by birkhead. And before you know, what they go for it. And they have a choice to go for it on fourth down or kick the field goal. Stephen Gostkowski comes in drills a forty one yard field goal game over did you that was the absolute right? Call. Did you see? My father. You gotta take to score to me. Do a little surprised chick. Didn't try to throw. Absolutely, absolutely. I was shocked that he didn't say. All right. We're going to let motto in mono. You got those two big studs and Adalbert consumer and defensive player of the year and air Donna coming right down your throat. We're getting this half inch. Really wasn't it. Getting this happening. And we're spot was actually a very good. We're walking away with this game. Come on, the he he did the smart thing. But isn't that even now? Yeah. Who missed by the way, earlier, isn't that even further evidence that not that we needed? We know the ballot. Check is rate iconic, Deb, transcendent, whatever. But to not get wrapped up in the Matiz mall Levy show, you how smart I am. Let me. Yep. Letter. The right football plays to trust the guy that's been with us. Gas cow skis been there. What seven eight years? Yeah. Trust the guy who's drilled the big kicks. Do what you do. Get a good snap. Do your job Bank. Whereas too. Still here. Yes, they never go away. Now, the aftermath, and what's left for the Rams is really what we what we're going to talk about. They're going to lose one of their coordinator the coordinator. But whatever Zach Taylor who's gonna be the head coach of the Bengals that'd be a little bit concerned Bengals Taylor. That's a conversation for Dafur down the line. But you know, Sean McVeigh after the game talked about how you know, he was out coached. He just needs to do better. And it's it's it's true. Right. That was one of the keys to this game. We want to put it all of the players all the time. But so much of of of this game the Super Bowl is what is your plan? Right. And when you're plan does it work. What do you do next? You've heard me talk about this many times BT when we played the Baltimore Ravens and the two thousand we had a great game plan because we were really good up until that game. We beat the crap out of the Vikings. Right. We get into the Super Bowl with not working. What do we do we go and run? Hurry up offense. Carry those five interceptions. We get blown out disgust, by the way, if this doesn't work. We're going hurry up. It was kind of game. Like it was in game. It was decided half. Tim McVeigh his credit? Didn't didn't fall for that? Right. He didn't need to. Exactly, exactly. Go do something rash. Yup. But he didn't have an adjustment. Here's McVay after the game. I'm pretty numb right now. But you know, definitely I got out coaching. I didn't do nearly good enough for a football team. I never enabled us to get into a rhythm offensively. You know, we didn't have any really third down conversions really the whole first half. And you know, they did a good job. And then it seemed like every time that we got a little bit of a positive play. Then we'd end up having a penalty or move ourselves back. So I think a lot of it was a result of some of the things they did. But then also the place election. Yeah. Twenty two plays forty seven yards two first downs in the first half. That was it. That's ugly. Did you I didn't even I didn't tweet once during the game? You know, worked all week. I'm like, I'm just chilling little scotch. We ate like pigs. At least I did. And we watch the game with our family, which is what everybody does. And hopefully, everybody had a great Super Bowl Sunday. But there was the one plant was really early was their first drive. Second drastic and dry for the past. Oh for the Rams. Yeah. Cokes where they didn't review. What they got. They got the snap off quick. I don't think he caught that football. No. I don't think he did either. I think his left foot was off the ground. Secured. Right..

"Tonio gates doesn't fumble they might win this ballgame. Yup. You know? So again, it'll be about turnovers in actually feel like the chargers run game might be even more important. They just forty one yards against the raven. Melvin Gordon at forty one yards. It was his first game back from the injury. He's now got a couple of weeks under his belt here. Maybe he's more healthy. But the way Philip rivers has been playing the last three weeks three touchdowns six interceptions. A problem. Gotta run the ball. Limit the amount of times at balls in the air limit the amount of time that ravens defense can turn it over and give it back to mar. That's how the chargers win this thing. So it was funny coming in. I was listening to serious NFL radio. And Anthony Lynn was being interviewed. And he talked about playing the ravens and one thing that he talked about he said the style of play. The ravens have the way they played they're gonna make every game be a close gay again. So you just have to know that it's going to be a tight game. And he said, well, we need to do is to start fast to make them accountable by. Him down a couple of different scores. Then what was funny I call. It. A buddy was the defense coordinator, leeann I was like, hey, what do you think about being aggressive against a ravens to start out because he said in a way when you do that you play into their hands because the way that you can beat the ravens is you gotta out raven. The ravens meaning you need to make their offense on comfortable you need to be committed to running the ball. So you retain possession and make them have to kind of play catch up in a different way. But if you come out and thinking you'll throw it all over the yard against their defense. Which is their defense is built to defend the pass your create an opportunity for them to get a turnover ashore feel something bad to happen. And then you look up it is just like the week fifteen game. Right. You're now down ten three thirteen three. And you spend the rest of the game chasing points as opposed to being able to play in a standoff. I think if you're the chargers you play a little more conservatively early because you feel like you've got the better quarterback. So if Get into. into the four court in a game site. You should feel like Philip rivers can get us over the hump. Don't lose the game in the first half just trying to find a way to stay close. And then winning in the second hand, what's he had? I think he said three interceptions in the first quarter in the last three weeks. I think to the last three that have been on the first possession that you cannot put yourself in a hole against the team. That's going to grind it out. And in this will be a limited possession game. So just gotta make them count. Yeah. You got you got you have to make them count and playing in their place would all those goons and stuff that it'd being the stand. You don't wanna give them anything to be excited about early in the game? Right. And then the other thing will be DJ talked about this in the past the charges had gotten away with plan a lot of undersized bodies on defense. Meaning they're playing their sub package nickel and dime. Put in DB's in linebacker spots. And that is how they play really really good defense. The issue when you do that against a Baltimore Ravens? The baltimore. Ravens lineup in twelve personnel. I'll throw three tight ends at tight ends. Because so now you have your little trying to face the bigs and they're coming down hill in the first game the charges at a really good job of having a defender assigned on Lamar Jackson, and he did a good job kinda running them down. They they played the option. Really, well, and and that is great. You have to play man to man, but in playing man to man, you're susceptible big place. So you guys on the outside have to be able to hold up. And so this game really would come down to the parameter and candidate charges DB's hold up against a skill gas for the ravens because if if they're playing over zero and really committed to stop Lamar if Lamar take shots there gonna be some home and opportunities there. Yeah..

"Is gonna show up if you go to the playoff, and he's not gonna show up you go to the Sugar Bowl that how can you blame? The Andre Baker the cornerback for not playing in this football game. If the coaches, do it the kids should be able to do it, especially a guy who's the top defensive back in the country. And, you know, billion talk to tree kick about the the hangover the Georgia was experiencing in their first few practices. In the bowl season after the devastating lost Alabama. And I can see why there's a hangover defensive coordinator side in these gonna leave early because they didn't make it to the playoff Texas will start at midfield moving left to right. Three fifty nine to go first quarter. They lead Georgia. Tim nothing. Ingram the running back. Chianti Ingram a true freshman. Nearside right and elegant changing is call at the line is that worked out of the pistol formation. Play clock down to about eleven. It's the ball in his hands play action fake going to the near sideline that ball is caught by doomsday Dubrovnik's missing. Takes it down to the. Call it the forty one yard line. John taylor. The will linebacker in on the tackle. For Georgia said great job. I angered the true. Freshman tailback picking up the block on a linebacker solid pass protection across the board Texas likes the lineup. Andrew back in the h back position. But they create a nice pocket for etlinger again out of the pistol action Fenton a bubble screen out to the laptop Humphrey Humphrey cuts inside at the forty. That'll be I doubt that was seconded to read on the stop they'll market at the Georgia. Thirty six alert going with temple doesn't have a huge army. But when you throw the ball with timing you get it get the ball out quickly. You don't need a huge arm to play the position. And I'm not just talking about Saturday, Sundays to are the Gallagher has plenty of arm strength because he knows where to go with the football. And he's got very very good arm talent. I tend to Georgia thirty six option play to the right? The pitch to Ingram's got some blockers. But no, the Georgia. Defense spikes through those blockers forward progress without the thirty two so four yards on the play Eric Stokes get credit for the stop. It'll be second down at six yards to go to forty two go first quarter. Ten nothing Texas suffered Georgia because they love to rotate a lot of defenders in and out of that front seven the Andre Walker isn't in the game. Tacos. A little bit about Jordan. Davis a true freshman, but they are thin up front in a defensive seven. That's usually a heavy rotation. We had a snap of of flag the snap. So that would indicate false start. Here's Michael mother shed. Forty-seven offense. Penalty. John beck. And that's the first penalty of our football game, by the way back versatile. He can play an end of the line. Put your hand in the ground tight end Dixon, line them up at h back move them around at times. Oh way center, the backfield is at a downhill blocker at the fullback position first team big twelve as a full back. But I think that was more about just finding a slot for him. Because he can do a lot more things than just play fullback. Right. So second and eleven now from the thirty-seven for Texas on a fumble on the etlinger stuck in the belly of the running back in Rome and decided to keep it himself. And when he pulled it back out the ball hit the turf. Fortunately for heavy falls on it. The ball handling errors zone. Read to Ingram. Allender clearly trying to pull the ball. And Ryan as he does so many times fifteen carries in that big twelve championship game against Oklahoma by forty two carries combined in the last two Red River shootout he loves to run the football third-down twelve from the thirty seven of Georgia trips to the laptop receivers right four rush back to throw etlinger to the near sideline tip to the era. The falls and complete. Pass intended for Colin Johnson. Now that ball was high because Johnson is six six, and he couldn't get his hands on it Stokes with the cover. Now. This was pressure. Created the high throw. And it just forces Allender launched the ball little bit higher than he wanted to Brenton Cox, the true freshman coming off the right edge got into the arm Bellinger. A little bit high for calling Johnson who Bill as you say he's got a very extended catch radius. I think they're going to take a penalty or delay of game to be fifty five yard field goal. Melissa call timeout were down to zero. Did they call timeout there? Their field goal kicker is capable of getting from fifty five. Five yard penalty. Worked out. That's an interesting decision here. Bill you're in a bowl game. And I like it Tom Herman's defense is playing. Well, he's got a double digit lead early bucks. Sixteen to go here in the first quarter. I liked the decision here to punt away and continue to trust your defense. And they're playing a heck of a game here. Early took the delay ball back to the forty three. So Texas will punks. From left to right and try to pin. Georgia deep in one sixteen to go here in the first quarter, Jerry Godwin's back deep whereas number five. Hardman does most of the damage with a kick returns, Nicole hardman, led the SEC with twenty point one average. Here's the snap. And putting away from left to right end over end catch called for an made by Keri got run around the nine yard line. Traveled thirty three yards. And here comes the Georgia offense I down and ten with a minute five to go in the first quarter. David I went that we had the Texas bowl year ago against Missouri. And I looked at some of my notes and Tom urban one of the things he talked about last Theresa. Oh, we need. We need to know. How to finish for their last six losses? They had the lead in the fourth quarter. Yep. That's changed this year. They've they've had nine one possession games. They've won six of them. So obviously part of the culture change with Texas. That was a big win for them was a catalyst against Missouri. Member of the Tigers game into that game of the six game win streak and one of the hottest quarterbacks in the country and drew lock down and ten Georgia at their ten from throws up field. It's incomplete Riley. Ridley was open. Walling right through his hands the second down. And you remember in that game? David the MVP was the punter Michael Dixon for taxes. He had an incredible game. And he partly that into a draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks and he left early. How many times? If you leave early in going the draft fifth round to Seattle. "In the country, and Billy and talk to free kick about the the hangover that Georgia was experiencing in their first few practices. In the bowl season after the devastating loss. Alabama, and I can see why there's a hangover defensive coordinator side in these going to leave early because they didn't make it to the playoff Texas will start at midfield moving left to right. Three fifty nine to go. First quarter. They lead Georgia ten nothing. Ingram the running back. Chianti Ingram a true freshman. Nearside right. Changing his call at the line is that work out of the pistol formation. Lake lockdown without a love them. It's the ball in his hands play action fake Gallagher that I go to the near sideline ball is caught by Dumas Dubrovnik's man missing. Takes it down to the. The forty one yard line. John taylor. The will linebacker in on the tackle for Georgia. He's a great job. I angered the true. Freshman tailback picking up the block on a linebacker solid pass protection across the board Texas likes the lineup. Andrew back position. But they create a nice pocket for Allender again out of the pistol action a bubble screen out to the left to Humphrey Humphrey cuts inside at the forty. That'll be I doubt that was second to read on the stop they'll market at the Georgia. Thirty six alert going with temporal calendar doesn't have a huge arm. But when you throw the ball with timing you get it get the ball out quickly. You don't need a huge armed play the position. And I'm not just talking about Saturday, Sundays to are the Gallagher has plenty of arm strength because he knows where to go up the football. And he's got very very good arm talent. I tend to Georgia thirty six little option play to the right? The pitch to Ingram's got some blockers. But no, the Georgia. Defense fights through those blockers forward progress without the thirty two so four yards on the Eric Stokes? Get credit for the stop. That'd be second down and six yards to go to forty to go first quarter ten nothing Texas tougher Georgia because they loved to rotate a lotta defenders in and out of that front seven the Andre Walker isn't in the game. Talk about Jordan Davis, a true freshman, but they are thin up front in a defensive Salvin. That's usually a heavy rotation. We had a snap of a flag. Right. The snap. So that would indicate false start. Here's Michael mother shed all-star forty seven offense. Postel who beckoned that's the first penalty of our football game. By the way, back is so versatile. He can play an end of the line. Put your hand in the ground tight and thick and line them up at h back move them around at times. Racer the backfield is a downhill blocker at the fullback position. First team big twelve is a fullback. But I think that was more about just finding a slot for him. Because he can do a lot more things and just play fullback. Right. So second eleven now the thirty seven for Texas on a fumble on the fly has etlinger stuck in the belly of the running back Ingram and decided to keep himself. And when he pulled it back out the ball hit the turf. Fortunately for heavy falls on it a ball handling errors zone. Read to Ingram. Allender clearly trying to pull the ball and run as he does so many times fifteen carries in that pick twelve championship game against Oklahoma. By at forty two carries combined in the last two Red River shootout, he loves to run the football third down twelve from thirty seven of Georgia trips to the left to receivers, right? Four Dan rush back to throw etlinger to the near sideline tip to the falls and complete. Bass intended for Colin Johnson. Now that ball was high because Johnson is six six, and he couldn't get his hands on it Stokes with the governor. Now, this was pressure. Created the high throw. And it just forces Allender launched the ball little bit higher than he wanted to Brenton Cox true. Freshman coming off the right edge got into the arm of Allender. Just a little bit high for calling Johnson who Bill as you say, he's got a very extended catch radius. I think they're going to take a penalty or delay of game to be fifty five yard field illicit call timeout down zero. Did they call timeout? Their field goal kicker is capable of getting from fifty five. Five yard penalty. That's an interesting decision here. Bill you're in a bowl game. And I like it Tom Herman's defense is playing. Well, he's got a double digit lead early bucks. Sixteen to go here in the first quarter. I liked the decision here to punit away and continue to trust your defense. And they're playing a heck of a game here. Early took the delay. Ball back to the forty three. "The. Ten thirty five to go first quarter here. New Orleans Inskeep. David Dorian Fitzsimmons and the crew delighted you're with us. And by the way, all your scoring that touchdown is now tied the Texas school record for rushing TV's by quarterback in a single season. That's his fourteenth. Longhorns kickoff from the left to right back deep. He's dangerous. But not when it goes through the end zone. Elegant by the way on that last drive five or five sixty one yards. And now David Jake Frahm and company coming out on the field. They'll start at their twenty five yard line and boy got John gray slipped. Elisa Holyfield to good receivers. A lot of talent out there. Offense to handle if you're a defensive front and then on the back, and when you load up against the run secondary's really good stress by Jake Frahm and a very talented group of wide receivers. They got two or three tight ends. It can also get down the field. Jake Flom a lot like etlinger in that. He's got underrated armed talent very very capable of exploiting you down the field. If you overplay the run trips to the ride Holyfield the running back sanding to the right of the quarterback, and it's Holyfield and nowhere where to go. The penetration by Texas. Upfront fish, Nelson, the senior. On the stop Texas defense. You talk about big twelve they give up twenty six game points rushing one thirty five passing to sixty five over four hundred a contest this effective front or very aware. Just how good the Andrea swift and allies a holy field are out of the tailback position. That ought to give Jake Frahm some opportunities down the field for big plays tonight. So now empty backfield trips to the right? What's comes up the middle? Femme Holyfield outside makes a man. This takes it up field near sideline out of bounds. At the twenty nine yard line. Kris Boyd in on the stop so third-down coming up for Georgia Texas scored on their opening possession. And they lied seventy nothing at nine fifty three to go for sporting. Bulldogs in their red jerseys. Bright patch red helmets white numerals and a third down coming up Texas defense third down this year. Not so hot forty four percent. This is third down six with pressure. Here could bring Gary Johnson the outside linebacker a lot of speed swift in it running back but back to throw his farm and crossing route. It's at the forty tripped up and dropped just shy of the forty. That's Terry Godwin tackled by Brandon Jones, that's a gain of eleven that's a Georgia. I down tax does bring pressure Johnson comes looping outside. But he doesn't get there. Jake Frahm so well versed very patient poison. The pocket finds his receiver out on the left side line moves the chains swift to an Holyfield when Albion either side of the quarterback, I doubt and ten Georgia. And here's the handoff. And this is swift trying to turn the left side. He's got nowhere to go. Chris boy, the corner played run the hallway came up and made the stop de'andre swift David this year thousand thirty seven yards rushing, and he had four one hundred yard rushing games is less starts and he got off to a slow start because of injuries I four or five games. So once he got healthy. He really turned it on down the stretch. He was averaging over nine yards. A carry in the last seven games for Georgia. Suck it out at twelve lost a couple on the play. So far will go empty backfield. Three receivers farside right to left four man, Texas, rush FRANZ going to scramble he's gonna take off and run at the and behind. That's a forty one yard line. That was nicely done. Gary Johnson the Rover senior out of Douglas, Alabama brought him down. Gary Johnson has a bright future playing at the next level because of his speed and his ability out in space this time he tries to work up field against the Thomas left tackle gets up. Men. Recovers and runs Jake down for behind breakway, another third down Georgia. This is third nine at their forty one yard line. To receiver stack one behind each other farside right now, they come a motion left and back to throw hit from behind the voice the sack scrambles farside right throws a field. Just have to go away. And the Texas fans on the far side of the field rise and salute the defense that was BJ foster who is putting pressure on Jake Frahm and Georgia will punt the football away was man who we all big twelve defensive line of the year that got the initial pressure and almost stripped the ball from fraum create a situation where Frahm had to spin out of it. And then eventually foster arrives in the backfield forces, the quick delivery. But just a great play by Manahil guy with a major motor on it. Jake Marta will from right to left Humphry back. Deep for Texas waiting at about as a twelve yard line. Boy alone snap, but he gets it away. Nice high spiral Humphries. It'll let it go hits at the two and takes Georgia bouts backup. Field. It'll be down around the seven yard line. Well, done by the BULLDOGS special teams that traveled fifty two yards Texas, Paul when we come back seven twenty four to go in the first quarter, Texas, seven Georgia nothing the AllState Sugar Bowl on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. Anyone who has ever needed self storage knows what a hassle it can be you have to rancor borrow track? "forty one yard" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP

"And not take a lot of time off the clock. They have shown no sat site of doing that all day long. Yeah. Their only real offense that they've been able to generate has been heavily off of play action. But at this point if you're Ohio State on defense, find run the ball. Go for it. I'm just going to play against the pass yet. Because you're not going to be able to make up twenty five point deficit in seventeen minutes a game time by running the football. So I'll just play for the past. I'll put too high safeties back and about the only thing that you're going to beat me with his big plays. And we're gonna make sure that we don't allow any of them. So that would be my game plan if I'm Ohio State, and if I'm Washington I have to figure out a way to counteract that, but Jake Browning certainly hasn't shown much of the ability to do that. He has not thrown a touchdown pass in twelve plus quarters. Huskies offensively at looked anaemic throwing the ball and overall the conference we we saw Washington state in person beat Iowa State the other night. But now the Pac twelve continues to struggle left out of the college football playoff for the second straight year. And obviously the conference champ at three losses to in conference play Washington. All the talk about will the college football playoff expand. Eventually if it does expand who should it include does it mean that you're automatically a qualifier. If you're one your conference in urine a power. I hope that if they do expanded to eight I bet you that will be part of the conversation that all the conferences will agree upon but tell you what man I don't like handing out freebies conference has earned it back to throw goes Browning. And I now looking deep firing laughed has hundred Bryant and juggles it and secures it at the forty one yard line of Ohio State. So a big pass play on the first play of this drive with a minute forty five to go in the third quarter. And.

Big Game memories: 25 years later, Cals Lindsey Chapman recalls 4-TD day

"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Big-game memories. Twenty five years later. Cows Lindsay Chapman recalls four touchdown day by Steve kroner from sports to running back. Share the Cal record for touchdowns and big game with four Chuck Muncie. Did I and the bears forty eight to fifteen route at Stanford Stadium in nineteen seventy five the following year New Orleans selected Muncie with the third overall pick in the NFL draft he wound up spending nine seasons in the NFL. The man who tied his big game. Mark Lindsay Chapman didn't play a down in the NFL. But on a nineteen Ninety-three Saturday afternoon at Stanford Chapman put his name next two. As in the Cal record book Chapman carried twenty eight times for one hundred forty one yards and scored a TD in each quarter as the bears waltz to a forty six to seventeen victory. Cow had gone six seasons. Five losses and the final tie in the nineteen nineteen and nineteen eighty eight with. Thout holding the axe. That wasn't the only thing fueling Chapman against the cardinal. When asked this week about that victory a quarter century ago Chapman. I referenced the guardsman's luncheon, which took place at San Francisco's firm aunt hotel, the Wednesday before the game, the annual charity event brought together the head coach and a few players from each school MC, Bob Sarlat. A Cal alum typically took good natured digs at both teams. Chapman was one of the players representing Cal. And he admits heat didn't realize the luncheon was something of a roast still he thought Sarlat and Stanford head coach Bill wash went too far in maligning the bears one wash line. He said he didn't understand all the hoopla about the acts and that Cal can always go out and buy one, I left there pretty heated. I left that luncheon very very upset. It kind of set the tone Chapman said two years earlier Chapman said he and his teammates felt the same type of disrespect before they met. Clemson in the Citrus Bowl. He said the Tigers didn't feel that we were good enough opponent. Cal was good enough to beat Clemson thirty seven to thirteen I felt that same irritation. When I went at lunch and Chapman said and they were talking about us like that. And like, we weren't even in the room. So that was the fuel that fired at all the night before the big game. The bears were out there Palo Alto hotel. Chapman remembers go into a players only meeting and telling some of the bears offensive linemen that they didn't need to block their men. The next day. They simply had to get in front of them Chapman recalled saying because all you guys in here. I'm gonna put you on my back, and I'm going to carry us to the promised land. I promise you that promise kept Chapman scored his first touchdown on seventeen yard pass from quarterback. Dave barr. Chapman's final three TD's came on runs. After scoring the first touchdown second. Touchdown third. Touchdown. And even the fourth Chapman said, I just had a whole lot of pent-up anger inside of me. Thanks to Bill wash. I really really really wanted to make sure that we brought the axe back. Cal got the axe and Chapman got a different type of. Veneer that he's kept for twenty five years chunks of the Stanford Stadium field that he put in a plastic bag. He had grabbed those chunks in the bears postgame celebration the locker room was just effervescent Chapman recalls. Everybody was just hugging. All over each other. Dear Slater Chapman, got to meet Muncie. Their connection went beyond the cow, backfield Chapman grew up in Louisiana and was a fan of the saints. It was special to me to actually get a chance to meet him being a part of a cow family Chapman said Muncie died at the age of sixty in twenty thirteen Chapman lives in Oakland and works as the northern California regional safety manager for helix electric. He also coached running backs at Chevy college for the past four seasons. The victory over Stanford in ninety three gave Cal seven two four record the bears finished nine two four as they won forty two to eighteen at Hawaii the Saturday after the big game. And then humbled Iowa thirty seven to three in the inaugural. Alamo bowl Chapman. Ran for one thousand. Thirty seven yards that season. And by the way, he also scored four TD's in that victory in Honolulu.
