"We had Senator Holly Mitchell on a few weeks ago, and we want the things we talked with her about was obviously a big advocate for criminal Justice reform and young people. And we asked her like do were there times when you had to educate the governor about some of these issues because he didn't have any personal contact or wasn't something he was focused on. Did you feel that way with Jerry Brown in terms of labor issues working governor Brown has done more in like the last four years, and I've done in my entire forty. So they're not a lot of issues that he has doesn't have a lot of experience with my biggest point of education that I remember with governor Brown was really about the issue of home care and talking with him about the importance of homecare workers in our state and the services that they were providing the governor actually had an experience with a home-care worker. Because his great aunt who was dying had a caregiver and found her caregiver on Craigslist. And he was like, well, it can't be that hard. Afonzo? Like well for you governor or your family? Right. What it's difficult. It's, but it's more difficult for families who are having a play about by the medic the rules of Medicaid and having a sort of find their way. Right. So that was I think the biggest would opportunity that I found to educate governor Brown mostly. I was I was the one getting the education. So we kind of skipped around a little bit, but on your personal life. You do have a four year old daughter. I partner do and we talked about early coming out of the south being African American. What was it like coming out like with your family? And I don't know has that been something that you feel like is really informed your career. No. It's interesting question. No one's ever asked me that question, but I will say in reflection. You know, my mother was not only my father's caregiver, but the Saint of our family. It was never a question of acceptance for me, whether it was my mother or my two older brothers. It was everything was really about. How do we support one? Another to be the best that we can be no matter what that is with that looks like and so while I have incredible empathy and have friends who've whose families have rejected them based on their sexuality. That was not my story and not my experience, and I'm so grateful for that. And it's also not my primary identity different than twenty eight minutes. Different than others. I grew up in the south. And you know, every Sunday I was at Sunday school in church and did vacation bible study. And so I my life really was framed around the golden rule, and and my mother really sort of made that an incredibly important part of of how we saw not only ourselves, but some other people in our communities, we have just a little bit less than a minute left. But we know I believe that you are turning forty one month from today is that correct? It is. You know about the exit your thirties. I don't know. It's it's interesting. I am I came to California. I was twenty nine years old was elected president of the largest second largest local in the country at thirty. I left the SEI you after eighteen years as I was thirty nine, and I really feel like turning forty is an opportunity to write a new story to to really create a different plot in my life in my life story. And hopefully, I sit in this message to other young folks that you don't have to be somewhere for forty years doing the same thing. Got that. Could end up in the White House. Thank you so much. Thank you. You bet it does it for this edition of political breakdown..

So what happened forty one months ago, whose idea was this let me guess Amy's? No. I actually I mean, Amy has always been a terrific with money. So about I would say about forty five months ago. I asked Amy on a date, and we had been friends for about ten years. And so I wanted to take that friendship to the next level. And then we started dating, and I was like, what am I gonna do on living paycheck to paycheck? You know? Obviously, I had marriage in the plans and providing for a family, and all of a sudden, I said. I'm going to do it. So that January I went for it and told myself that I was going to go onto the Dave Ramsey plan. Because I got introduced to you about ten years ago from a friend named Carl and he gave me all the parameters the baby steps and at that point in time when I graduated college I bought a thirty thousand dollar vehicle. I. I had sixty thousand dollars a student loans, and I made twenty seven thousand dollars, Dave. And it was it was I opening and couple years down the line, I met Amy and that has made all the difference. So we started a good woman to inspire you. She has inspired me greatly. And she stood by my side throughout the entire time and has been a motivator for me. Did you guys sell stuff while you're getting out of debt? So the only thing that I sold was my motorcycle. I think I bought it for around six thousand and I sold it for forty five hundred. And then that spring we had a hailstorm here in Nebraska, and my brand new car got about eight thousand dollars worth of hail damage, and I talked to the loan insurance when they gave me two options to fix the damage for eight thousand or take it into debt and sometimes on the Dave Ramsey fan. I just decided to throw towards debt I said, I didn't care about what the car looked like. And from then on we cash flow to everything else. So we catch loader wedding. And we catch flowed honeymoon and we've had some hiccups along the way. So you're driving a car that looks like a drunk got loose on it with a hammer. Yes. It does. Oh my gosh. Oh, wow. To this day. Okay. But the name so now we can either get the car fixed or get rid of it now that you're out of debt, right? Correct. Yes. We we went through some trials. I mean, we've lost jobs Amy had some really bad. So after we had our son Clayton, and.
