You know, we don't have our big northern mallards down by any means, but the doctor so we're very excited for our upcoming season starts on Saturday morning. Very good. We're talking with Chuck Ellington, by the way from Watson's hunting camp, beautiful western Minnesota. So we wonder what are your plans for for the opening morning check. It you start. Now at sunrise. I think it is or half hour before forget. Yup. Where do you going to hunt over land? You're going to hunt over water. What are you gonna do? We are going to be on boats. You know, there's a lot of there's a lot of fluids out here. There's a lot of lakes out here a lot of ponds out here, and we've got many different opportunities. I mean, we've we've still got places, you know, that we can walk in and set up our declares and bring a little swamp stool list, but you know, I love hunting out of out of a big boat. That's that's some of my favorite favorite hunting. And you know. In my past. And but you know, there's a lotta there's a lot of bucks out here. There's a lot a lot of the are starting to come down here. But like I say it should be. It should be a good kick off to our waterfall season. Blue wings. Yeah. We're seeing a lot of blue as like a lot. Let's go. I think DNR just said they thought there was an increase in -til. I don't know about wood ducks would Dexter tough to survey. Which is quite a hunting operation out there. Now. Some folks listening and say, you know, I'd like to try that duck hunting, you know, do you do you have that kind of a program out there for beginning? Duck hunters or father son's father, daughters, stuff like that. Absolutely. We take beginners all the time. And you know, my favorite thing to do is to take kids. You know, you got to introduce kids to the outdoors. Otherwise, you know, we won't have a future. So my deal is I give I I'm half price for anybody. You know, basically eighteen years or younger, I want these kids out here. I want to show them a good time. I want them to have create memories with their dad, their mom or whoever brings them out here. Absolutely. You have a program where you take older Connor and trying to. You know, kind of go over the basic rules. I got a guy. Having mind or you're not that old Ron. Simone, cherished, she had a bunch of double with you. Simone was out here this past weekend. And I think we might be at a record. But the calculation at the boys gave me his right around seven hundred and fifty dollars. Whoa. This kind of late. I mean, usually the Dev hunting is maybe one week. And then they get a cold snap and are gone. But we haven't had that coast. Napa know we've had tropical temperatures out here. I'm in Simone, and I. Back in a field on Saturday afternoon. It was ninety six degrees. I was I was hunting in shorts and sandals. You know, it's probably over his probably over now though, isn't it? Yeah. You know, it got a little silly. You know, and like I say anybody dove hunting is perfect and great and so much fun. But when it dips to about forty forty two degrees with a little bit of a breeze. Those doves are gone. Yeah. Check. Thanks for that update on the forecast duck opener, and we'll get back to you later in the fall here to see how the migrants are doing and good luck come Saturday morning. Perfect. Thank you. Have fun. Take care. Bye. Bye. That's usually a Kelsey. Thanks, you dream of western Minnesota. And that in in Minnesota terms that's about as good as it gets out there. He he needs to deal with a lot of stuff. See overall forecast for the duck opener. Pretty good for starters. The weather looks good. But all the reports I've heard so far from pretty much across the state. Most are managers are predicted a pretty good older. A lot of them seem to indicate that there were a lot of duct broods the summer and. You know, it's kind of a. Wait and see what happens this weekend? But the outlook is good. How do you get your counts on that Wendy wins your last count? You do it in September or win. The what? Yeah. Started flying. I didn't fly at all this week. But probably next week. I'll get up in the air a little bit. And right now some of the races. So thick right now, it's pretty hard to to see birds in the race, but kind of sorts in and out as we get later into September. Steve, I think you confirmed the other day read, or what whatever that a lot of people said the Canada goose hatch this spring because the late the cold weather, laid Eissa, blah, blah, blah, really hurt the Canada goose hatch, and I think you confirmed that now, right? Yup. I mean all reports pretty much statewide were a a poor September goose season. But you know, kind of a positive a lot of the birds. That failed this year they go up in molten Canada. And they've been starting to come back to last week or so and seen a couple of flocks even today, and Dan, so hopefully with maybe the cooler weather will get the some of those birds back in the state before Saturday. We kind of a bonus bonus shot for guys dot com. Maybe any divers in the state not a lot. There's a few ring necks around. But most of those are probably local birds and. For guys in north central Minnesota, that's kind of the bread and butter dock. But Toby here by all probably next week some of the migrants will start moving in but this weekend teal, and what ducks would be the to sort of focus on and. And then there's pretty good numbers of mallards. It seems to give me a couple of rules for people who are going gonna hunt. Public wetlands this weekend because there'll be a lot of hunters under generally on the opener you need to get there fairly early Richarson. Plenty of space between the next hundred do. Are you doing? I don't know just a little bit of common sense. You're a lot of guys get worked up on the opener, and and it is kinda hard sometimes from those public areas. Trying to judge distance in the dark and old by headlamps, and you know, spotlights and things but. You know, it's a long season and just give them a little space. And, you know, enjoy it then but not worth a, you know, causing a big stink over a certain spot. Indeed Jeeva have one favorite ask of you. Keep your eye open for. His alley. Catch anybody? That's gone over the limit. What do you do with those extra docs, somebody's got kicked us? All right. Wink, wink. All right. Steve courts. Thank you for bringing us forecast and good luck to you for the opener. I assume you'll be out. I'll be out. Yep. Looking forward to it. Very good. Steve courts. DNR waterfowl guru with us. "Check. Two weeks grade fantasy what's it about? Well, I'm you know, I have a man of many skills, which a lot of people know, except you. So I've got I'm undefeated in my fantasy football fantasy football. Yeah. Okay. I've had other fantasy come fantasy. Quite a two week run. Let's put it this way. It's a different league. Gotta tucked duck hunting with ducks out there. Hey, we've got a lot of ducks out here. Di's already very well. You know, we don't have our big northern mallards down by any means, but the doctor so we're very excited for our upcoming season that starts on Saturday morning. We're talking with Chuck Ellington, by the way from Watson's hunting camp. Beautiful western Minnesota. So we wonder what are your plans for for the opening morning check. It you start at sunrise. I think it is or half hour before. I forget. Yep. Oh, wow. What are you going to hunt over land? You're going to hand over water. That's that's some of my favorite favorite hunting in you know, in my past. And, but you know, there there's a lot of there's a lot of ducks out here. There's a lot of a lot of the keys are starting to come down here. But like I say it should be it should be a good kickoff to our waterfall. Susan bluwings. Yeah. We're seeing a lot of Lewis. Like a lot. Let's go. I think DNR just said they thought there was an increase in -til. I don't know about wood ducks would Dexter tough to survey. But they're always around, right? Yeah. There's quite a few wood ducks out here. I mean. Yes right now. Eighty five percent of our debts that we harvest on Saturday will be deal. Okay. Which occupies quite a hunting operation out there. Now. Some folks listening say, you know, I'd like to try that duck hunting. You know, do you do you have that kind of a program out there for beginning? Duck hunters or father son's father daughter stuff like that. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. We take beginners all the time. And you know, my favorite thing to do is to take kids. You know, you gotta introduce kids to the outdoors. Otherwise, you know, we won't have a future. So my deal is I give I I'm half price for for anybody. You know, basically eighteen years or younger, I want these kids out here. I want to show them a good time. I want them to have create memories with their dad, their mom or whoever brings them out here. Absolutely. You have a program where you take older Connor and try to. You know, kind of go over the basic rules. I got a guy. Having mind or you're not that old run. Dump on Simone sheriff shot a bunch of dub with you. Simone was out here this past weekend. And I think we might be that a record. But the calculation at the boys gave me right around seven hundred and fifty dollars. Whoa. This kind of late. I mean, usually the Dev hunting is maybe one week. And then they get a cold snap and are gone. But we haven't had that coast. Napa know we've had tropical temperatures out here. I'm in Simone and I sat in a field on Saturday afternoon. It was ninety six degrees. I was I was hunting in shorts. T shirt and sandals. It's probably over. It's probably over now though, isn't it? Yeah. You know, it got a little silly. You know, and like I said anybody dove hunting is perfect and great and so much fun. But when it dips to about forty forty two degrees with a little bit of a breeze. Those doves are gone. Yeah. Check thanks for that update on forecast duck opener, and we'll get back to you later in the fall here to see how the migrants are doing and good luck. Come Saturday morning perfect. Thank says have fun. Take care. Bye. Bye. Chuck, that's usually a telltale sanctuary of western Minnesota. And that in in Minnesota terms that's about as good as it gets out there. Well, it is they have a lot of good habitat out there and enough potholes. The center of the teal and -til do start moving around this time of year because. They can mean Ernie migrants. So anyway, of course, knows all about the whole state. We have Steve courts with us. The outdoor show. My god. Steve would be outbuilding. Duck blind right now. Good good evening or good morning. Whatever it is. Dave. Hey, how are you guys? Good. Half hour before sunrise, then the opener though, because if I go in the opening or maybe you haven't seen my spot before. And I know there's going to be ducks. Anyway, I like to get out there and have a breakfast kind of be able to see. Here's the gone. I guess. You'll just have deal with I guess, maybe. Good. He he needs to deal with a lot of stuff. Steve overall forecast for the duck opener. Pretty good for starters. The weather looks good. But all the reports I've heard so far from pretty much across the state. Most are managers are predicted a pretty good opener. A lot of them seem to indicate there were a lot of duck broods the summer and the. You know, it's kind of a. Kind of have to wait and see what happens this weekend. But they'll look is good. How do you get your counts on that Wendy wins? Your last county do it in September or win the last. Yeah. I'll start flying. I didn't fly at all this week. But probably next week. I'll get up in the air a little bit the right now some of the races. So thick right now, it's pretty hard to to see birds in the race. But kind of starts in and out as we get later into September. Steve I think you confirmed the other day a read or what whatever that a lot of people said the Canada goose hatch this spring because the late. The cold weather, laid Eissa, blah, blah, blah, really hurt the Canada goose hatch. And I think you confirmed that now, right? Yup. I mean all reports pretty much statewide were a a poor September do season, but you know, kind of a positive a lot of the birds. That failed this year they go up in molten Canada. And they've been starting to come back to last week or so and I've seen a couple of flocks even today, and Dan, so hopefully with maybe the cooler weather will get the some of those birds back in the state before Saturday, anyway, kind of a bonus Boris shop for guys dot com. Maybe any divers in the state not a lot there's a few ring necks around. But most of those are probably local birds and the whole for guys in north central Minnesota, that's kind of the bread and butter dock, but Toby here by snow probably next week some of the migrants will start moving in but this weekend teal, and what should be the to to sort of focus on. And then then there's pretty good numbers of mallards. It seems to give me a couple of rules for people who are gonna hunt. Public wetlands this weekend because it'd be a lot of hunters under generally on the opener you need to get their fairly. Early. But you also need neatly plenty of space between the next hundred you do. Are you doing? I don't know just a little bit of common sense. Hear a lot of guys get worked up on the opener. And and it is kinda hard sometimes from those areas. Trying to judge distance in the dark and old by headlamps and spotlights and things but. You know, it's a long season and just give them a little space, and, you know, enjoy it then but not worth causing a big stink over a certain spot. Indeed diva have one favor to ask of you. Keep your eye open for. Could be a it could be a doctor could be mcgann's. I don't care, but was one wing and one leg and give me the coordinates because my good, buddy. Here you gotta get one bird a year. And now there's a new challenge for him. Like camera poster somehow. That wouldn't hurt if it's swimming slowly, and it's legal to whack him on the water would be right up. His alley. Catch anybody? That's gone over the limit. What do you do as extra ducks? Somebody's gotta take those home, right? Wink, wink. All right. Steve courts. Thank you for bringing a scanner forecast. And good luck to you for the opener. I assume you'll be out. I'll be out Jeff looking forward to it. Very good. Steve courts. DNR waterfowl guru with us. Oh years now man pressures on maxi pressures. On.
