National Polls (MM #3467)

"The Maisonette with Kevin Nation the presidential election is about forty-five days away. And of course if you turn on TV right now, especially on the news channel, you're not only seeing the candidates but you're seeing more and more of the national polling data. The national polls are somewhat important but the kind of a misnomer because as we know it's not really a national election but a state-by-state election and what's more interesting to me right now is when you look at the national numbers, it looks like ninety-eight percent of America has already decided whether they're voting for either Joe Biden or Donald Trump by this time normal life still got ten to fifteen percent of the people either voting for an alternate candidate or undecided and right now from darn near every poll. I'm seeing ninety-five to ninety-eight percent of Americans have decided between two people the question wage actually going to go out and vote. It's one thing to give your opinions on the phone or in an email. We'll see what happens. But right now it looks like everybody's decided on who they're voting for. So can we do away with all the rhetoric? Yeah, you know we can

TikTok suing Trump administration over threatened US ban

"Talk is about to sue or at least as threatened to sue the trump administration. Right water. Look. So back early August August six, I believe it was president trump. He issued an executive order saying that any transactions with talks parent company bought Dance would-be banned prohibited within forty five days. He ended up going back on that on the fourteenth of August end doubling. The amount of time that that would take but the problem is that you know tiktok assigned that that doesn't really allow them enough time and was unconstitutional. So they now coming back and suing the trump administration full banning their operations in the US, the the solution that has been offered up for this four Tiktok by the trump administration is full to talk to have a US buyer and there have been some interested parties, but it's also not a path that it looks like take talk wants to go down.

What Will Become Of TikTok

"Let's see what's the latest on Tiktok no idea. No idea they have now ninety days now forty five days and to figure out what's GonNa Happen and now a lot of people are conversing about whether maybe we should buy tick tock they should take including. Oracle. I don't know why Oracle would want tick tock. Some concern because it wasn't as Tiktok was also a chat application called we chat. That potentially as being banned. In the United States and That concerned a lot of company in fact, according to the Wall Street Journal Apple. Ford Lot of American companies we're on a conference call with President. the week before the Tick Tock. We chat band saying please don't do this. This could really This could really hurt us. Overseas a lot of our business is is in China. the surely there's another way they didn't come up with another way now. Twitter it Oracle and Microsoft trying to figure out even Google apparently. was initially a part of a plan to get a number of US companies to by the US part of TIKTOK. I just have to say I mean China aside and that's of course, a big part of this. The concern there couple concerns about tiktok one that it's spying on us. And I think as an individual or company or a government agency it's completely reasonable for you to say yeah let's talk. Let's You know I took it off my phone. I'm not so much worried about the spying part. If I were a Chinese citizen in the US. I. Might might be much more concerned I don't think China really. Cares much about who I am and I don't think they get a lot of information for TIKTOK. There's maybe a more serious concern though the propaganda benefit of tiktok. If you watch a lot of tiktok videos just as if you watch a lot of youtube videos. the program itself. The Algorithm as we call it adjusts as you watch the goal for at least for Youtube is to get you to watch more. I think it's the same for to talk to get you to watch more. So they watch they look they. Automatically see what you spend time watching and they try to give you more of that. And as we've seen on youtube economic, that can have a negative effect. On facebook is another company that does this facebook. Does that with their news feed, you know that that middle of the Middle Column of your facebook page. What's on there? It's not what you might think. One. Would assume well, everybody I follow all my friends and family and the people I care about the groups member of that's what's there no. No only some of that is there because the algorithm does the same thing watches what you look at, which is where you spend time with what you click and says, let's give her more of that and so it's That's that's kind of how that's the secret sauce of most of these systems technology systems, the recommendation engines. And there's all sorts of potential problems with that in the case of Youtube issues of it promoting extremist. Videos because it turns out. extremist. Right for better for evil you you watch more of the more extreme stuff. So if you watch A channel. or a video about vegetarianism it's likely that you'll get a eventually of videos about veganism. which may get you to v Videos about Peter and which might get you to videos about extremism in supportive animals, rights, and things like that. And it goes in various directions and we know this we've seen this researches proven. Yeah. That's that's pretty much what it does. So the fear with Tiktok might be that for instance, the Chinese government might say, Hey, this is a great avenue to influence American public opinion. Why don't we start modifying? Why don't we start modifying the algorithm so that it promotes our point of view political point of view and we can subtly. Gradually influence the American, mind? Oh, that's an interesting idea.

How a Law School Dropout Builds Profitable Companies Using Virtual Assistants with Ravi Abuvala

"Ravi say what's up to fire nation and sheriff something interesting about yourself that most people don't know what is going on fire nation. Thank you guys for lending me your ears I've been listening to this podcast for quite a while now, and it's a little surreal experience to be on this end of it. So this morning I'm thinking I listen to this for very long time and I'm like I. Know John's GonNa. Ask Me something that a lot of people don't know and like any online digital marketer. Open Book and so I was like what? So I'm going to share with you guys on that literally one person this entire world knows and it's funny I'm bringing it out on this block Seo but about a year ago in July of Twenty nineteen, I had this weird edge and I ended up actually selling all of my stuff in. Florida about a week including my caller just junked it and I moved to. Spain and I lived in Spain for about forty five days and I was just hopping coastal city council city working on businesses, work my clients, and while I was in a coastal city. In Spain I'm not GONNA say what? So people don't look up when I'm about to tell you my walls in a coastal city in Spain I don't drink. I drink a few times a year and I was out at this pretty cool jazz club and I was like two three in the morning, which is in Spain when they're just getting started really and there's a brawl breaks out right where I'm at at the bar or ordering a soda at the Bar and just abroad but breaks out right next to me and ends up at, I. Try to break the brawl up the police come. they come up to me I speak decent Spanish because I've lived abroad for a while but not good enough to get me out of the situation I I actually end up spending the next three and a half hours in a drunk tank and a small jail cell in a coastal city in Spain and it took him a while to you if I had to give my find my password and it showed all that stuff and I finally got out of it and The only other person that knows someone that met me the next day and they wonder why looks so off By parents don't know nobody knows that stories. So yeah, I'm on our convict in Spain. Okay. Well, this is only a couple listeners. So fire nation keep it to yourself here like not a big deal. So. I WANNA start off on a little bit of a somber notes because as I shared fire nation during the introduction, we're talking about barshop way to millions but in many of us have dealt with some one in our lives that we love who dealt with some form of this but your Dad Ravi had stage four cancer. So talk to us about that and how that situation. Caused you to throw it all away. Awesome questions. So whole life was going to be a lawyer and that was that was the goal was law school was the number one priority, and in order to be a lawyer, you have to take what's known as a law school admission test and you had the really score highly on and if you WANNA go great law school which I did. And so I took a year off after graduating from college and I was about to start studying for this also emission tests in about three days. After I graduated I, got a call from my dad who lives in Atlanta Georgia. I was in Florida at the time and he told me news he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and like John Says, you know everyone here has experienced cancer somewhere the other, but it's like when it's yourself or someone as Close Your Dad, it's a whole different experience and kind of threw me. For a loop and so I ended up packing all my stuff up moving to Atlanta. Georgia, and for the next year I would wake up at four am workout until five. Then from five to eight, I'll be studying for this law school admission test than about eight to five I'll be doing Chemo and radiation with my dad every single day. Monday. Through Friday and then when I got home at about six, o'clock, I'd be studying until eleven midnight every night back again on a law school admission test. So it was quite a surreal experience. I'm really really blessed to say my dad's been about two years in remission. So just actually visited him in Savannah Georgia, two days ago I was just seeing him but what it really did open up for me was. How fragile life was I was kind of going down around that I think somebody else wanted me to go down and I read a really awesome book called the subtle not giving of an economy I was just like, okay I'm doing this for all the wrong reasons and I decided you know what I took the law school admission test spent eighteen years preparing for it. I actually scored in the top ten percent of test takers in the United States I got into my dream schools, top schools in the nation. and. Then I said you know what? I'M GONNA go work at a talion restaurant down the road and try to figure out this entrepreneurship

WeChat joins TikTok in the naughty corner

"The drafting of this executive order for people. If you hiding in a cave somewhere, you may have missed it. US President Donald Trump has issued a two executive orders one banning TIKTOK if they don't sell sell themselves off or the US operations off to Microsoft within forty five days and the other one looked at band transactions with way chat and it's it's relying on the Department of Commerce to actually define basically what a transaction is I mean that's really it isn't it down Yeah and that's the the bet that everyone's GonNa look at going what does this actually mean it applies to. The Wider Organization what constitute transaction with whom like with a subsidiary with With and we have, of course, has payment functionality that's quite extensively used. So there's also that aspect with maybe that's a little more targeted. took the the Apple Pie of China and look I didn't even know this until I started diving into it this week but you know KFC sells more KFC. In China than it does in the United States and I think in the in the during the covid period something like eighty, six percent of KFC sales. We're talking billions of dollars wiz via way chat. Yeah. I mean. It's GonNa. Have implications you know that I'm not sure particularly well, thought through or at least department of Commerce is going to have to think through what these actually mean on the ground because yeah, everybody. Who Uses one of these? Of Chinese diaspora around the will rely on, we chat for communications businesses that have relationship pretends and. All those people are going to be in situations where they just dumped know what's going to happen right in of your epic Games, which is part owned by Dan's and. then. Yeah. Your car. Can we sell hats? I don't know. Yeah. Well, the A are specifically mentions we chat related transactions right but. Look at Scott much wiggle room in it. You could drive a bus through it. I asked Bobby, Chesney, Co, founder of the fat blog, and he's a law professor of course at the University of Texas Austin. I asked him for his thoughts on the and he was calling the enough to share them with us is what he had to say the big question is what counts as a transaction is that term is used in these executive orders. It's not clearly defined, but from the context, it sounds like they have something broader in mind than simply the purchase and sale agreements corporations engage in or contracts with these organizations The context implies something broader that could include use, and in fact, if you go and look at the draft regulation. That the secretary of Commerce is in the midst of finalizing in relation to a closely related executive order from last year, you find that indeed just mere use of a sanctioned service is covered. That's been controversial for the very small number of people who've been paying attention to that draft regulatory process. But nonetheless, it seems like what they have in mind as a possibility here. So that's why it matters a huge deal that the secretary of commerce within forty five. Directed under the executive order to issue a description of the types of transactions that will in fact be sanctioned in the end. So it all turns on that it could be really broad. It'd be very narrow. We won't know until forty five days or up. So. That's where it is right now we really know what it's GonNa look like but I mean. You have to think at this point that the Department of Commerce would not. Exempt chicken purchases you would probably within the Chinese mainland yeah. Would hope some some sense prevails, but it's just really don't know and you know there's so many kind of aspects of this. You know in the why they're gonNA political context we don't you know the motivations of all of the people involved like you know we've seen some of this couch the National Security Trade terms you know we've seen it used as a bargaining thing. There's just all sorts of aspects that we don't. Like the motivations are not really clear. So it's really hard to tell where it's where it's going to land, and there's just so much uncertainty for you know consumers businesses through the supply chains of some of these organizations

How the TikTok Ban Would Affect the Influencer Economy

"Terror Lawrence walking adverse cast. Thanks for having me you are reports near time see cover influencers the influence our economy, which is what I won't talk to you about but I asked you on the show to talk about Tiktok a while ago like several days ago and I said we should do this as late as possible before we publish because something else will happen with Tiktok and Lo and behold last night according to some Friday last night Thursday night very late the trump administration issued two executive orders one banning all transactions with Tiktok in forty five days, which is September twentieth in the other we chat. Benny. All transactions we chat and we chats parent company ten, cent which owns. Stakes everything from spotify they own all of League of legends they on forty percent of fortnight on religion epic games I want to talk to you about Tiktok. But that all happened what has been the response from sort of the influence or community to that I feel like I should just ask you from the job. Yeah. Well, it's been a roller coaster for them. Maybe to a bunch of people last night because you know earlier this week, it seemed like it was going to be fine like a lot of them were told at trump said even last week that the ban could come as soon as last Saturday and when when that didn't happen. The kind of thought they were all good again, and now they're scrambling it's literally thrown huge swath of the entertainment industry into arrears I mean we saw Forbes released their list of top earning talkers, yesterday, and including people like Charlie, Milio, Addison, Ray, all of these kind of young Internet stars and they're making millions and so you know. All of that money that they're making his in jeopardy all of these big brand campaigns that American Eagle. Other brands are doing in jeopardy The music industry is obviously scrambling. So it's it's a mess. Yeah. I. Want to come back to that thing in the moment but I wanted to the reason I wanted to have you on is I think the influence, our economy, those millions of dollars that you just talked about this kind of not well understood. And you do a great job of covering it. I think I've told you like your coverage has definitely been an influence on our coverage. I think of our creators is a secret business section on the verge like that's bundle mentally what it is it's our. It's our teenage millionaire section like it's a business desk, not really like a memes desk but just to give even that even some context, your personal reporting history has twists and turns the kind of led you here. Can you give people just a sense? Of that because you started as like like a strategist, a digital strategist and you've ended up covering platforms and the money gets made on them, I see a pretty clear through line there. Yeah, I. Mean I've always been really obsessed with these platforms I, mean I graduated over a decade ago now into the recession and got on Tumbler and which I very quickly built some popular blogs on Tumbler, and that was my entry into social media world and yeah, I worked as a as strategist basically helping social media. Brands like household names like Bud light kind of navigate the social media world. This was before branch twitter was even a thing facebook just rolled out brand pages in like two thousand nine. So I was sort of helping brands build audiences online and I got really fascinated by how these deals were being done on the Internet how people were leveraging audience for themselves and yeah sort of did that and then ended. Up doing the same thing for media companies as a social media director for a while, and then I was always sort of writing on the side and then finally about almost three years ago I switched over and started reading about at fulltime. I think also the equator economy I don't think it was truly a beat until that time the way that it is now I think the real money started pouring in. Maybe Post Twenty sixteen.

TikTok To Sue Trump Administration Over Ban, As Soon As Tuesday

"The initial headlines was that trump was going to ban TIKTOK well. Then there was another headline saying trump was going to back down banning TIKTOK. Because there's a chance that Microsoft was going to purchase the talk property in the United States have their own US division and Microsoft buying that. But now trump has issued an executive order regarding Tick Tock and apparently rather than banning the APP itself, they took a different tack and are banning the service from the United States meaning that you cannot interact with Tick Tock Company. That's the supposedly how. Little bit more here from from NPR tug confused they talking about the video sharing APP being hugely popular and this the APP is actually planning on filing a lawsuit against the trump administration. As soon as Tuesday, according to a person directly involved with the forthcoming suits be filed in the District Court in. South? Cal California where Tiktok American operations are based NPR's learned. The suit will argue that trump's far-reaching action is unconstitutional because it failed to give the company a chance to respond. It also alleges the administration's national security justification for the order is baseless. Saying it's on pure speculation and conjecture. The has no findings. Of fact, just reiterates rhetoric about China that has been kicking around the White House declined to comment on the expected litigation but defended the executive order from President saying quote, the administration is committed to protecting the American people from all cyber related threats to critical infrastructure, public health and safety and our economic and national security they claim. So what they're doing is under the executive order quote any transaction unquote between a US citizen and Tick Tock. Beijing. Based parent company. Bite dance will be outlawed in forty five days for national security reasons seems like it could be interpreted very broadly. Yes. I suspect the interpretation would be that a transaction would mean you opening the APP you sending any sort of data to it you doing anything with asking support for some help. While you're installing it down, that seems like what is a transaction under the definition of this particular order right? I think it's any interaction with sometimes the transaction means a monetary thing right but you don't pay for Tiktok at least I. Don't think you right. I mean, maybe they have some sort of a paid to your. But I guarantee you the one, hundred million people or whatever that are using it aren't aren't paying for. One hundred million I, don't I honestly don't know it may be more than one hundred, million I. Don't know if that's in the United States it's probably worldwide or whatever but it's a very, very popular APP. The APP has also they say, they talk a little bit about you know the short videos are usually like fifteen seconds very, very short. The APP has also been used to antagonize the president including thousands and. Thousands of teens reserved tickets to the president's rally in Tulsa Oklahoma with no intention of going inflating the trump campaign's expectations for the event and causing embarrassment over the disappointing turns man bed. No Orangemen said. If the presidential ban goes into effect the APP may no longer be able to send software updates rendering tiktok unmanageable on smartphones and eventually nonfunctional. So they're considering a transaction I think to me in any data moving from one to another.

Trump Administration Imposes Deadline For TikTok To Be Sold

"Tensions with China rising once again as president trump puts a clock on Tiktok I the president said, the popular social media APP would cease operating in the US September fifteenth unless an American company acquired talk with the Treasury getting a cut of the deal the United States could should get very large percentage of that price because we're making it possible without us i. use the expression it's like the landlord and the tenant and without the lease. The tenant doesn't have the value. Well, we're sort of in a certain way, the lease it's unclear exactly how that would work by Friday president trump signed an executive order giving the Chinese companies that own Tiktok and we chat forty-five days to sell to an American company citing privacy

Trump Executive Orders Target TikTok, WeChat Apps

"President of the United States signed two executive orders Thursday under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and a couple other justifications forbidding transactions with tiktok owner bite dance, and any transactions with ten cents related to their super. APP We chat. Each of these orders takes effect September twentieth. You might recall Microsoft has until September fifteenth to reach a deal to buy some or all of Tiktok from by dense. So there's a little bit of a gap there between win Microsoft's deadline is and when this executive order takes place. So that's the first thing to remember is they didn't ban the APPS they banned transactions with the companies which could cause apps to disappear and it doesn't happen until. September twentieth. So there's forty five days to figure out how this is going to work. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross will identify which transactions will be considered prohibited under the order. So that's going to change a lot of people are looking at the tencent order and saying, well, wait could this band transactions with other ten cent industries and so that will be important for the the definition from Wilbur Ross to decide is it really just we chat? The use of the emergency act is generally applied to terrorism or sometimes international trade and will likely be challenged in court. In fact, tiktok is pretty much said it's going to do that. The order claims the APPS access to user data including location browsing messaging payments, and search histories. Quote threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to America's personal and proprietary information potentially allowing China to track the locations of federal employees and contractors. Bill dossiers a personal information for blackmail and conduct. `corporate espionage. This is considered in both cases, a threat to national security foreign policy and the economy of the United. States. So there's the justification they're going to have to find out in court. While, the order against we chat is likely to be narrow if it's not. It could affect ten cents non we chat businesses. In fact, some companies may just out of an abundance of caution decide to back off ten cents non we chat businesses just in case. And Ten, cent owns riot games, which makes League of legends they wholly own it. It's there's. Ten cent is also an investor in spotify snap. Read it. Executive Order Targeting Tencent Scares Esports

"Late on Thursday night president trump executed on a promised executive order targeting tiktok parent company Bite Dance, but also included in that order which surprised many was ten cents the Chinese conglomerate that owns most of East sports. Here's how the order reads quote the following action. So be prohibited beginning forty five days after the date of this order to the extent permitted under applicable law. Any transaction that is related to we chat by any person or respect to any property subject to the jurisdiction of the United States with an holdings led in Shenzhen China or any subsidiary of that entity as identified by the Secretary of Commerce under section one C of this order. That sure makes it seem like any transaction with tencent or its subsidiaries like riot games would be banned, which would have massive ramifications for almost every eastwards Kompany Ted set obviously owns right games but also has minority stakes in epic games. Blue Ubisoft activision blizzard among others after panic gripped eastwards twitter for about an hour calm returned when an La Times reporter confirmed that gaming companies would not actually be affected by this order. The order was directly targeting ten cents we chat. Ten cents market cap dropped fifty, four, billion dollars after the order broke. That brought the company from a starting market cap of six, hundred, eighty, six, billion to six, hundred, thirty, two, billion during the day. It did rebound bit after clarification but not to the mark of the start of the day.

The Executive Order To Ban TikTok and WeChat

"He went ahead and did it president trump has signed an executive order to block all transactions with tiktok maker Bite Dance, as well as all transactions with Chinese tech giant tencent beginning on September twentieth. Now, it's worth noting that September twentieth would be five days after Microsoft's deadline to acquire the non-chinese parts of Tiktok or not. Quoting the verge, the spread of APPs controlled by the Chinese government continues to threaten the national security foreign policy and economy of the United States. The order reads the United States must take aggressive action against the owners of Tiktok to protect our national security and quote a parallel order. Banda transactions with we chat a texting APP in China that maintains a small user base in the US in both orders, the president names, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act as authority for the move, as well as the national emergencies act effectively naming talks continued operation within the United States as a national. Emergency such. A move is highly unusual and will likely be subject to a legal challenge. The executive branch has the power to levy sanctions against individuals and corporations by them on the entity list as the US did against Y. and Z., t. e. last year but such sanctions are typically put in place by the Commerce Department rather than the White House and Senate to specific rulemaking procedures that seemed to have been short-circuited by surprise executive order. The president also has the power to force the divestiture of US companies from foreign ownership through the committee on foreign investment in the United States or. But doing so also requires a specific process that seems to have been discarded in favor of a broader executive order. It's unclear how the order will affect talks ability to operate in the short term unlike Weiwei Z. T. The company does not require licenses to operate its network and nothing in the order seems to require APP stores to seize hosting the APP. However, it explicitly covers subsidiaries of by dance specifically, the US based TIKTOK division, and we'll apply to any and all financial transfers to and from those subsidiaries as a result. TIKTOK. Likely to seek a stay of the order in court or be forced to abruptly discontinue services as it takes effect and quote. So everyone basically scrambling to figure out what all this means. There does appear to be a loophole in the order because the order has a clause that reads quote to the extent permitted under applicable law and quote. But also, as Alex, tweeted quote, if I'm reading this correctly, it obliges apple to remove chat from the Chinese APP store, which would effectively kill the company's phone business in China. China represents a little under fifteen percent of Apple's global revenue. But at the same time, the order says we chat quote has over one billion users worldwide, which means it's counting Chinese users as we chat users given the references to chat having more than a billion users. It's clearly intended to apply to the APP globally I. think that would be substantially more damaging for apple in China then losing Google services was for way in the West. I. Think and yet this is the US government doing it to both and quote indeed, Bloomberg has a piece of art that we chat is banned from the Chinese APP store. The ramifications would be huge because we chat is a communication and transaction cornerstone in modern Chinese life. Being without chat would be a big enough deal for Chinese users as to essentially possibly kill the iphone business in China, and at the very least would probably be a big deal as to go to China into some major form of retaliation. Now tencent owns wechat tencent has a market cap of six, hundred, eighty, seven, billion dollars. Its stock was down more than ten percent afterward of this executive order came down. As Dan primack tweeted quote the tencent we chat order maybe more consequential for us tech companies because it seems to ban any transactions with tencent tencent invest in lots of us, companies including fortnight maker EPIC Games. Let's play this out. tencent has an investment in read it tencent can't do transactions after forty five days. So must tencent divest within forty five days if not, how would it ever sell trying to get clarity on this to end quote? Yeah I WANNA put aside the questions as to whether or not Chinese apps represent a security threat for the moment. I for one have uninstalled Tiktok on my phone because I don't trust it. But more immediately, I think most in silicon valley are watching to see if there is. Any immediate cascading of retaliatory actions by the Chinese that could put a cramp in wet silicon valley can do globally. Sources are telling buzzfeed news that an all hands meeting Mark Zuckerberg told facebook employees that banning tiktok would set a bad precedent code I. Just think it's a really bad long-term precedent and that it needs to be handled with the utmost care and gravity whatever the solution Zuckerberg said. I'm really worried. It could very well have long term consequences in other countries around the world and quote. While noted that tick Tock Band in India in June was being hit. Now he alluded to the idea that facebook products could become a target for another country. Later, he did however sympathize with the trump administration's national security concerns. Quote. I. Certainly think that there are valid national security questions about having an APP that has a lot of people's data that follows the rules of another country government that increasingly is kind of seen as a competitor Soccer Berg said quote.

Digging for the truth

"The Welcome to kiss Miss Mystery signed your host. Kit crump night been receiving a usual amount of people wondering how I tracked down the facts refined the truth when I'm working on a story. So I'm going to run down the process I'd take when investigating and urban legend and try to give a couple of examples, I i. look for anyone that actually experienced the event if that individual doesn't want to talk to me, which is usually the case. Then, I attempt to track down a witness to the event. Often when there are someone that actually experienced a paranormal event, let's say they are often embarrassed or reluctant to speak to anyone for fear, they're going to be criticized or accused of making up the entire event in some cases that involve things political or the government I can utilize the freedom of information. Act But they usually take forty five days or more to respond if the event. Is something that was reoccurring. Then I can tap into police be I reports. However, they are often. So editor redacted with black lines disliked trying to figure out a code to best understand the process will recite a couple of examples I of flying saucer that crashed at Roswell keep in mind that I'm going to leave out a lot of detail and I'm only going to explain off the flying saucer itself no alien bodies involved in this first. Trace the image of a saucer back to nineteen forty seven in horten brothers who created both a saucer and flying wing both brothers were brought back to the United States with two hundred and fifty other scientists at the end of the war in something that was called project paper clip. You may have heard of this where in the United States could the Horton's and other scientists work well, area fifty one of course at what became area fifty one. I continue this option that they would continue work on the flying wing or flying saucer I. Now Research Project Rainbow is a program using some of Tesla's science in an effort to move a battleship from point a to point b you might know this as a Philadelphia experiment. The idea was not to make anything invisible simply to move it from one place to. Another and the military failure they had made a small battleship both vanish and move from one point to another. Now, they bring that science to the Horton saucer and it becomes up flying saucer. The problem is that they can't control the Horton's flying saucer any better than the L. Ridge which was the battleship they tried it out on initially with line saucer vanishes and. then. Reappears eight hundred miles away word crashes at Roswell New Mexico this. You'd give you a very rough idea of the thinking connecting process. Keep in mind that if I have a strange unexplained event, I don't want to go to the authorities or police wrath be I with whatever because they are not equipped for accurate reports on things that go bump in the. Night that leads me to my second example a while back I got a book did explained away dozens and dozens of urban legends is a hundred percent boss. But when I opened the book to the first one, the author said, it could possibly be happening yet. I know for a fact, kidney harvesting does happen and is going on in the United States right now. The book explained away the notion that people are having their kidneys harvest it well, here's what I know. Twenty years ago I was in a restaurant with my editor. The booking question was my book body parts a story I had written about the sale of block market body parts as I was explaining the research a waitress came over and told us how some of her friends had gone to New Orleans and one of them strayed from the group in hoax. So picking up a woman for the night, they had all been. Showing an apartment and she said he would join them in the morning. If he simply ended up closing down a few bars long story short when he didn't show up, they manage to track him down to a flop house where they found him in a bathtub filled with ice less one kidney. So they get into a local hospital at an after examination. The doctor tells them that the surgery necessary to remove that kidney without killing the patient had been carried out in a surgical unit with a team of surgeons trained to. Remove a kidney. This waitress didn't know either my editor or myself. She said her friend who lost a kidney lives in Ashland Oregon but I never tried to contact him but you could see from this second example, how many urban legends are often just dismissed out of hand. The author of that book I was mentioning dismissed the kidney harvesting only consulted police in several doctors. Of course, neither of his sources would have anything to do with kidney harvesting for a lot of different reasons not to mention that harvesting any Oregon is. A federal offense

"Man alive John Jones heard the boos in the background he said afterwards he said doesn't feel good to be booed didn't like it take a sent us the victory for him a split decision to judges giving Jones forty eight forty seven one judge giving it to Santos in the main event for the main card of UFC two thirty nine because it to thirty six earlier apologized on two thirty nine and look sometimes when you win in the UFC you win with mixed martial arts it's not exciting I don't think I I I don't believe brewing I'll ask this of ours in early on this I I don't think pulling John Jones for that victory was worth while it definitely wasn't the worst fight I've ever seen it wasn't a typical John Jones fight it was a more hesitant John Jones then we have seen but that's kind of credit to Santos and and what the and and the power that guy hasn't met gods of diverse tele credit was drag is like around the ring around the octagon for most of that fight so it wasn't a rock and sock a robot type of fight it wasn't your typical stand the middle the ring and throw haymakers it was more tactical it was more it was more of a thinking man's fight and then we found out that you know Santos suffered a left knee injury during the first round but it had surgery on his right knee before the fight the camp started forty five days late because he had surgery on his right knee that according to the codes for general Santos saying the doctor gave us a time line but we had a problem later the UFC was one that recovered his knee that's heather Linden who is the tremendous head of physical therapy for the UFC she was in radio at UFC two thirty seven kept working on his need for six days straight found out of the problem was able to fix it but that's we started camp he according to have a fighting the camp wanted to pull the flight but said those did not want to pull the fight he had been in Campani wanted to keep going so you know centos has an appointment here in Las Vegas today to find out the extent of the left knee injury but it's probably ligament related and the prank it's not serious but it looks like he may have blown ACL out so if that's the case okay that's a significant amount of time to heal mask because I could definitely see those guys running it back again and fighting again I think a lot of people would be all on board for that they be excited actually watch that happened so pretty cool stuff with the you know pretty cool for from a central standpoint in his stock is definitely higher after that performance against John Jones even in defeat he was pretty impressive some people had it as John Jones losing and one judge agreed but to others did not now the fight that everybody still talking about from UFC two thirty nine is been Astrid getting knocked out by her a mass of all and by the flying the five seconds in the quickest knock out history of the UFC given how these two guys had talked so much trash to each other leading into the fight and mass of all had an interesting answer when he was asked about the beef saying I don't have beef with Ben Astrid if I did I would be they are service house waiting for him which is okay in kind of going on the lines of Jon J. while they're saying you know I can legally kill somebody in the ring so why not try kind of along those lines but I you know astra two of the hospital and had to get checked out he was unconscious for quite awhile and then two punches afterwards but before the referee got involved you know that wasn't good and it took awhile for Astor to come back to consciousness and then literally had to be carried out of the octagon Dana white said that all of the test results came back as negative hill spiel surely feel a lot of pain in the recovery will be fun for Ben Askren but the thing that I don't really understand all the people saying that last of all should not have followed up the needy with two punches because I don't place that on the fighter I place that on the referee as any fighter will tell you they are told to fight until the referee calls pulls them off gets in between waves off the fight you have to always defend yourself and you have to always press forward it continue until the referee says the fight is over well Aspin went down it was clear that he was out but the referee didn't get in between master of all in aspen so that's not on Cuban street Jesus whatever you wanna call given Jesus street Jesus victims are awesome for possible but whatever you wanted it's a it's not a on him this is the name of the game this is how you play and the referee has to stop the fight and the referee had not stopped the fight so I don't believe it was unnecessary I don't believe it was excessive it's unfortunate but I have a bigger problem with the refereeing there I or a bigger problem with the guy who's in charge of protecting Ben Askren then I am with the fighter who's in charge who whose job it is is to fight the guy there why did you punch that we didn't have to yes he did he had to that's the refs fall so don't I I don't like this if people are criticizing mass of all for how we finish the fight it's all on the referee in I agree that's a brutal part of the sport it definitely is a problem and I definitely had a problem with the referee not getting there in time to stop mass of all from throwing those haymakers all gets unconscious fighter yes it was awful watch it was rough to see but that is the job of the referee in the referee wasn't ready because it's the first time we've seen a knock out in five seconds I mean if you were watching the pay per view Jon Anik was trying to do a sponsor read in the middle of it he was trying to do the read for who sponsors the fight clock he couldn't even get through the read for the fight clock before that did the knockout happened that's how fast it was that's how quick it happened it was just it caught everyone by surprise because yes what is it you can anticipate the ban Astor was gonna try to take down basketball immediately he was not going to stand on the feet and fight that guy he would have you know been brutalized for the three rounds if you'd stayed at distance you want to close the distance and try to take him down he dropped his head and the knee was perfectly placed and then the video came out from the UFC after the fight of not double practicing that effect move running forward driving his right knee for upwards right into the head of Astrid so the after got traded from one championship and look at the this is a good for him as I could for the UFC it's not good for him meet Luke Rockhold got knocked out Dana white said that while it's time for Luke Rockhold to retire Holly home got knocked out Dana white said it's time for it's time for Holly home to retire so there are some guys do you have these trying to keep the pipeline going Astor was one of those guys in right now he looks a whole lot like save north got a guy came with a whole lot of hype and Astrid lot older obviously married with kids in north north cut was a lot younger but the the promotion got behind the the hype train and has not benefited them it is not panned out by any means now the other thing I want to get too quickly is the fact that could be heard about offer her determine off in the D. as kind of an altercation during the card and the video that came out afterwards is basically Nate Dee as walking by saying you know saying something to I believe and then have be jumping up and security having to get involved in you know talking junk to each other you know this is not smart I'm sorry I I mean it's just I know what did was trying to do but they're about off better keep his mouth shot I just don't get why this guy I have said before I don't believe that the Nevada athletic commission should ever give a license to nursemaid off again after what he did by jumping into the stands after his.

"My gosh. Hardly ever. Is it some of the best hockey I've seen as a fan, and if very long timing, this is to the point where the Saint Louis blues they cannot be beaten. I mean, there's really no holes every. It's just going their way as soon as one thing starts lacking a little bit. Then the little things are coming up. You know, five one five to start the game a little bit sloppy. Not. Oh boy. Here we come the power play. That hasn't been all necessarily that great recently. Now the power play stepping out to huge goals in this game. The goaltending just continues the defensive savviness are the entire group. Just stifling hockey. What a terrific terrific road trip. My goodness. Three for three. They not allow one goal on the entire road trip. I cannot think of teams that could say that a three-game Rhody. Well, the Saint Louis blues shut out the opposition for an entire road trip. As Joey just told you one hundred and eighty seven minutes and sixteen seconds of total shutout time going to the second half of the last game against New Jersey, and Jordan Bennington has road shutouts in Philly. Arizona Tampa Bay and Minnesota Saint Louis blues went over the wild four to nothing was get the post game show started and Alex Ferrario. Standing by. This is why I love numbers guys. This is just unreal. When you look at that back in forty five days ago, they were dead last in the National Hockey League forty five days later, you are now sitting. Four points. Four points. Six point six points out of a second police spot in the central division. Just unbelievable. What this blues team has put together. Whether it's goaltending. Whether it's offense the streaks just continue to build in this blues team right now is unstoppable will break. It all down on the tax layer post game show. The mercy postgame breakdown with Chris Kerber and Joey tally hopefully, catch up with the player, maybe here from Craig groupie. "We usually get a backlog don't worry about it. If it doesn't if we don't get into that week. We will answer your question. Very very quickly, Robin San Diego. She goes. Hi, I have a question, please. I'm doing a ten thirty one exchange and the property I'm supposed to be buying this price higher than I would like to pay after seeing the inspection and finding out more about the area, etc. Other than backing out and paying the tax. Is there any other option at this point Allen would say, yeah, her qualified intermediary says, no? So let's chat about that briefly. So when you have a rental property, and you sell it, you can actually buy another property and defer the gain into the new properties long as you follow the rules, and the rules are simply this after you sell at the close of escrow, you have forty five days to identify three potential properties wanna buy and you have six months after close the best growed actually buy one of those three. So those are the rules that they need the property needs to be equal to or more expensive than the one you're selling. So in this case. Few found one properties you've probably found one property. Maybe she only identified one property. I don't really know. So I'm going to assume. Well, I'll answer as if she's within the forty five days. No harm. No foul. Just go. Find three other potential properties and list them down with your qualified intermediary. So let's say she's thirty days in fifteen days to identify three other property three targets, and the qualified intermediary is just it's a third party that holds your money, you you're not allowed to hold the money. That's forty five days of close of escrow close the best Chris escrow closed. Escrow company would have sent you a check for two hundred thousand let's just say, so, but it goes to a qualified intermediary to them instead of you because if it comes to you it's taxable. So they're holding your money forty five days identified three properties. So if it's within that period, just go to the intermediary and identify some other properties because the qualified in media says no I'm gonna after the forty five days. And so at that point legally, all you can really do is by one of the three or if you've only identified one by that. At one. And if you don't do that, it's a failed exchange. So you end up having to pay the tax how big of a game would you suggest someone look at ten thirty one exchange to make it worthwhile? Yeah. I mean, you can just do an outright sale you made a little bit of money just walkway pay the tax. I guess if it were me, and I don't really know any of the particulars. But she says he's paying the tax of twenty eight thousand dollars doesn't the please. And everything else. Happen unless the risk of owning more rental properties. And I don't get me wrong. I love rental properties. I've done three ten thirty one exchanges myself. But if I was only trying to get out of twenty thousand tax, I might think twice. I looked at that number. I thought you know, now now if all she got was thirty five thousand and she has to pay twenty eight we don't really know the rest of the numbers. But in general that seems like a low enough number that why go through that house, right? There's there's constant fees involved with setting all this stuff up right now, there is something brand new tax law. Cope opportunities the opportunities. Oh, yeah. And I'm not suggesting it I'm actually not even recommending a bit. It is available. So this is brand new with the tax law. Meaning that you don't have to do this forty five days or six months, you can just take your money out of the qualified intermediary and handed over to a fund that actually invest in general in real estate in a in a a depressed area. They call it an opportunity they'd been designated by all the state so each state has one and if you do that then you don't have to pay the tax rate. Now, you do have to pay the tax when you actually sell that property, or if you hold it long term, let me explain it. So if you hold the. Property for at least five years than ten percent of that gain in this case twenty eight hundred dollars tax free. If you hold it for seven years, another five percents tax free and other what fifteen hundred bucks, let's call it. And then if you hold it ten years, you got to pay the rest of the twenty eight thousand that point. But if there's any increase in the asset that you purchased in the opportunities zone after that point, it's all tax free. So that that is possible. I'm not recommending it to be honest because there's all kinds of risks involved with those kinds of investments, but that is possible twenty eight K. What would you say what's the number one hundred thousand dollars in tax hundred depends on the person. Right. I mean for someone like you with your big on that worth that. Yeah. That's like a drop in the bucket thousand doesn't. Just seems like the fees and causes almost half that I think to me it right it. Well, it depends. It depends more on what you're getting out of it. Like, let's say let's say she's going to get a couple hundred thousand dollars out of it. I I would pay the twenty thousand. That's right. If she's only going to get fifty grand out of it because the depreciation all kinds of stuff, maybe there's high debt on it. And she's going to pay half of it in taxes. Maybe she might think twice. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. But even if there's no net equity in there because of depreciation recapture the just because people will want to do certain things to avoid attacked in. It's like that. It's just seems like such a. Dinah, hassle. Everything that you're you're going through hoops, how about this? There's a there's a gentleman that's going to move to Rhode Island. That hates Rhode Island. That doesn't wanna really live there to save like fifty thousand dollars in tax is home. So we can use the one Twenty-one tactics. Yeah. No. We hear stuff like that. All the time. I lived in the home that he used it. As a rental in the now is times back up and he wants to live back in. And so we can sell it and save the money and tax because to to call it a primary residence or likewise. I I mean, I've had people that had a pretty big transaction. Maybe maybe a sale about some kind of business or something. Maybe they sold their business to a public company got stock. Now, they want to move to another state, Florida, Florida, Nevada, Texas, where there's no state tax. And then they'll say, okay, I want to move to that state solid. Boy, the state tax and state tax in California nine point three ten point three eleven point three. Let's just say it's ten percent one hundred thousand dollars. So all right. So some asking so you want to move to Nevada to devote one hundred thousand. Yeah. That's what I wanna do. You mean, let's say if it's a million dollar game. So yeah hundred thousand dollar tax savings. So then they say what do I need to do? I said, well, you need you need actually move there and really move there and stay there and the way the franchise tax were doesn't California they can audit you for years after you file and if you've moved back to. California. Why by the time, they ought you. They're they're likely going to say there was never your intent to move. You did this for tax reasons, and they're going to get the money anyway. So you probably you probably have to consider living in Nevada for five years for one hundred thousand. So if that's worth it to you wouldn't be for me, sorry, Nevada when the if that's worth it to you go for the you can't fake it. You really actually have to move. Well, there's fraud among us everywhere. Allen. Yes. Thinking of your retirement plan. Imagine if your retirement game plan was no longer about a number or just about your investments or even about taxes for that matter. Imagine if you can fill in all the gaps and have all the answers to a rock solid retirement game planning everything covered from E Z. Imagine what kind of confidence that would bring.

"Patterns at something up north changes the jet free downstream polish. You wrote are we in bad shape for that? Do you think for snow for this year? You don't want. I'll tell you. We did some statistics. What am I colleagues here looked at what kind of winners, we add after we had a snowing member an eight of ten winters that he looked at showed more snow than average. But before you get too worried about that by the shame token arguing against that is the fact we we've got an El Nino tends, not to produce as much snow as usual to warm winters warm summers. Your followed sixty percent of the time by a mile. Her than average winter. And we're still eight models are run by the weather service. And averaged is one form of guidance for what kind of winter maybe coming up six of the eight have above normal temperatures, and that's been pretty consistent forecasts so anguishing in the next two or three weeks. They the European wrench this experimental model to forty five days, and they've got more a milder weather patterns shuttling up as settling in as we get into over North America. Good part of North America except way up north. As we get into the mid part of December show. We've got some cold weather ahead. The next few weeks and the weekend will warm up. We might get some melting with heavy rain shattered. And that worries me with regard to possible flooding has got a lot of water tied up in this snow, particularly in the northern suburbs. He was in Paris last week, we mccrone and Trump and all the other world leaders this this guy, Dr king. I was I was so I was saying, okay. It's only a six hour difference. Let me see I'm working with a PR group. I did the into you last night. If you if you believe me, I'm not sure if you're going to believe me or not, but I'm gonna release the interview I did it with him while he was in Korea. He was fourteen hours ahead of me. So here it was it was a Friday evening seven right there. And it was nine nine thirty Saturday morning in Korea. New world. Yeah. It's like the the power of Skype the power of technology. The fact that she can be on the phone together going through a product. And we had you know, for the most part we had a good twenty minutes conversation, but some language differences. Right. But for the most part guy is he's he's brilliant. He's a genius you worked at Samsung. He I guess harnessed most of the tech from guest this time and Samsung and in stepped out on his own. Oh, wow. Right. That that was that was my evening. Weather's been crazy. But I gotta tell you. You were just talking about Detroit and talking about a place that's been decimated a place there. That you're gonna not having water. They economic booths to told me this much. You're very very smart, man. Don't you for forty years? Why? Amazon go to Detroit, what is what is the Cy Young island city? And i'm. Everybody loves the winner. Right. And New York is winning and New York has the winning sense of I wanna say night teen to maybe maybe some say eighteen eighty I'll say nineteen about nineteen hundred. But if if the idea of of the capital city, right if the idea of the of the lingua Franken, so a quick little history and filthier correct me if I'm wrong so about one hundred years ago, the the language and the place of note was London, right? Everybody talked about London. And there was Charles Dickens, and they wrote, you know, but before that I want to say it was Paris. But parents didn't have what it was the city of note and everybody respected it. It. Didn't have the language right English has been the language since I wanted to say. Let me I Don, I I'm I'm I don't know how to write about it. But English had been the language of business and doing stuff I wanna say for about a hundred years, but before that people would would because of the British so. As as time churns people will move they're kind of like energy to like the fire city. So now, it's been America and New York for forever. But before New York, it was Paris. And we go Paris it was England. And before I think that might have been talking Italy. So all all these things people of will will sort of gravitate to to do business there, and then to do business there, everyone has to be on the same page so to get on the same page, you generally have to speak the same language, so. Y America slipping I'm thinking about this with America flipping. I was wondering who the next I think the language is always on the bait while not always..

"You're ever in Colorado. But my pointing telling you that story is that really they solved problems. Now, they gave us tons of information. Like at the speed of that you wanted right? Exactly. I mean, they gave us information in a way that blew our minds. Well, I see it two points. I have is one is, you know, forever. The thirty to forty five days to close, you know, everybody wanted to do faster. So is specially in the lending world as a realtor I would call Greg. How fast can you do this loan? Right. That's all right. How fast how fast, and then we got it at fifteen twenty days. And then oh my goodness. If we could do it in twelve days that is just incredible. But I want you to truly think about it unless it's a vacant house. It's I mean, not all sellers can move out that quickly or one, you know, their home under contract. So I think you know, it is. As we want to be able to give the consumers the information on the timeframe, they want I still don't know. Unless like you said, it's an investor. It's a vacant home. I still don't see as closing and five to seven days most proper right now. But I think the speed in the technology that we're moving towards will allow that which is awesome. Because again, it gives the consumer more options, and that's what I'm an advocate. But in reality most like, you know, I got an offer the other day, and they it was a cash offer they close in seven days the buyer that that wasn't what the by the seller to seller wanted to move out in thirty days because it had a lot of the furniture. So I think you know, it's just it's still goes back to as you said the agent has always been the center of the transaction. I do not fear. For the technology change. I am embracing because we're going to be giving more options. And and we still then you know, we will find our place to keep it moving forward. Yeah. I'll give you an example of where working with an expert matters. And combine that with technology, so one of the other pieces of technology and mortgage lending right now is the ability to waive an appraisal, and it's automatic computer looks at the home, and it says, hey, the values there, we're going to waive the appraisal. Well, I warned everybody and said, hey, this is gonna be a problem because you're going to have lenders that are just going to wave appraisals. And then what if people wanted that appraisal? And so sure enough I was with a realtor yesterday. She's sitting three days before closing and says, you know, what you never did get back to us on that similar to praise because this the sales contingent upon that. And the lender said, oh, we never ordered it. Because we got a POW. Which is purchased inspection. So technology is working so fast that we that the lending person did not slow that part down using their expertise and call people and say in notice the fact that this contract was actually contingent upon that. And that's where the person comes in because technology can run as fast as you want it, but you may not want what you got when you get it. Well, I had the same thing with a client that had a tax lien, but the offer of course, the buyers thinking they're making an incredible offer, which they did they waived the appraisal. Everybody's thinking that's great at the time. Didn't know about the tax attorney finds that out talking to the client. But what does the tax people need they need appraisal? So we're scrambling three days before closing. Because that was not contingent contract which most times are great. We love that. So to your point at but technology is coming. Yeah. I think for consumers we're going to see some of the greatest things in our industry. I think real estate is time for it to evolve. And the, you know, it's one of the biggest industries, of course, it is a driving. If you the real estate's these center is the nucleus because all the spokes are around it. If you look at it and put it in the center of the wheel you've got insurance. You've got you know, Taito you've got I mean, the agent's business in the same. But all those things that go around at home warranties. I mean, it goes on and on and just the housing industry in general, which is what we want to talk about the next big subject out. We're really everywhere is are we headed towards another housing bubble. I'm just throwing it out here today. We're gonna talk about everything Greg and arrogant debate, there are four big key factors that I think you look at when it comes to any housing industry, and they're facts. So we're going to debate with facts. But there will definitely be a debate says, stay tuned. We'll be right back on the voice. Message and data rates may apply. Earning your degree from one of the top business schools in the country might sound impossible to fit into your workload..

"So the first product with lunch and a Kickstarter campaign back in two thousand fifteen. Raising one hundred twenty five K within the forty five day period. But just like any other product and takes time in dedication for you to be continuing balled into the ideal product. "Thirty to forty five days to properly credential a physician outliers look at one hundred twenty or even longer number of days nine months sometimes to properly assemble all the credentials and review them in verify them and so doing this with a blockchain with trust layer that's really what the blockchain does there we think we can significantly reduce the cycle time in the in this multi party workflow to enable physicians to be able to practice faster and to be able to start generating reimbursement or getting paid for what they're doing which is the core of the healthcare business we think we can bring it down substantially in fact we can we think we can price it down to the day of how much is being lost per day that this process takes to complete and so it's tractive about the exchange infrastructure is i'm not disintermediating necessarily anybody i'm providing a forum a marketplace if you will for producers and consumers the data to meet to discover value to discover price etc and i'll let the market decide what's valuable in terms of how much that artifact costs what's it gonna cost me to get that verification signature digital or otherwise on that artifact etc but that's the most efficient way to move forward and and to have the marketplace itself discover value and so provide or credential exchange is the first example of our product that really is a market level solution it's not a customer focused solution it's meant to address all players in the market and it's open for all players in the market to participate in interesting where we're bringing that to market is to convene that minimally viable network that phrase we bandied about i in a pilot sense what's the smallest transactional set of entities that we will need in order to prove value on the platform and then articulate means for the network to grow so who can come onto the network who can go off the network what's involved in those decision points.
