"Can you do with a bomber baller leaves at Microsoft? Mandy turns to me and says, shut up Tom, bye. Bye. Thank you. And all that worked out. It's interesting to see. But we'll have some resolution on this. Elon Musk, Twitter thing. I think much sooner than he just wanted to avoid that trial. I mean, I'm the dumbest person at this. Is Twitter to me it has critical mass, but it's just like a news thing, you know? What we do, no one else is using it, right? That's sort of the basic Twitter. Yeah, for me at least it's primarily a news source. I think it is for a lot of people and just kind of following on the people you were interested in. But it's got several 100 million users. That's big, but it's not the billion plus that the Facebook platform has or an Amazon has or something like that. So it's a little bit more of a niche advertising play, but it's got staying power. The people that use it are hardcore users. You know, we get 30,000 followers, hundreds of Michael Barr's got like 6 million followers. It's a big bar sports. Look for that out on Twitter. Down, negative two 68, some challenges to the market. We await at Vienna and OPEC with our news in New York City as Michael Barr. Example, thank you very much. Loyola law professor Laurie Levinson. So this is going to be Trump's first, maybe not last shot at trying to get the Supreme Court involved in what is clearly a novel issue, whether you can have a former president who has in his home, things that are marked as classified documents, and then try to stall a Justice Department investigation by claiming in fact they may no longer be classified or they may be subject to a privilege. It's not fan radio. It's not sports radio, Michael K would give his perspective, but we have Michael Barr. Where's Barry Bonds on this historic day? John Farrell asked earlier, is a Brit. He was fascinated by this. Aaron judge beat Roger Maris record. Right. But then how do you as an adult on his Michael Barr frame out? 73 home runs. Well, I can't be a hypocrite. I gotta say I was watching intently Barry Bonds as he was swinging for 73, and I was right there watching with my eyeballs glued to the television set. I suspect it, maybe he had steroid use. He denies it. But I got to tell you the time I didn't care. I'm watching history made with Barry Bonds, but keep in mind now everybody wants to define this. We're talking Aaron judge AL record as opposed to bonds and then Maguire and then so so all in the end. And then nationally. Right. But I was right there. I mean, you know, I remember going when it was pat bell park in San Francisco and I was there in person and saw Barry Bonds, not two in the drink. I was excited. Listen, I can't be a hypocrite. It's very Bond, 73, but this is a heck of an. Aaron judge grew up at Barry Bonds. And he says it's 73. Yeah. Yeah, the MLB record, but she used to sit in the drink out there folks. This is out past right field. In San Francisco. Splash a leader. Taylor Riggs used to sit there with a Boston whaler in a case of primo beer. And she'd wait for the balls to come. Taylor grew up there just like waiting for home runs to come out. Yeah, there's a bunch of guys that were out there in their paddle boats man waiting for one to hit the drink and they would run for it. Yeah, that's what she did as a kid. By the way, if you want a jeopardy question, Jesus. Okay. That was the pitch. The guy that gave up for the Texas Rangers that gave up 62. And they got one more game tonight, but I'm wondering if they're going to sit here and judge. Yeah. Yeah. But at the same time, I didn't think that the mets were going to play a double header yesterday and somehow in that sloppy way. They play in this hurricane. They played a double header in that. They swept the double header, didn't mean anything because the braves won and clinched the NL east, so. Both leagues, who's your pick right now, with a wild card. There's what 6 teams in each, so there's 12 teams involved. For a wild card because you got the mets against the Padres. Now I'm just going with my heart because I do like the mets. And that will start to play the Padres. I didn't know that. Mets will play the progress. And so they're all Thursday, and then they start Friday. With the wild card. Is it three out of 5? Yes. Which I love. I'm a big fan of that. Because the pitching staffs get all jumbled up. Well, you get some strategy involved. Yeah. You know, it wasn't like, you know, now the one and done, I

"People have been rescued from places like Fort Myers Fort Myers beach sanibel Marco island as well as the barrier islands in Charlotte county obviously there was a lot of calls coming in as the storm was really raging yesterday People who did not evacuate were hunkered down There was storm surge there was a lot of apprehension understandably when initially the first responders came this morning People would wave them down whether they were by helicopter boat or high water vehicle Now what they're finding is on places like sanibel most of the residents are just waving Thank you for coming but they say that they're fine And that they're staying put now I think that there's going to be issues with being on some of those islands because they're not going to have services like we expect for quite some time given the limitations of transportation but nevertheless that's a sign that some of the folks who did ride it out are stabilized in their home They are first responders are doing targeted searches just going home by home checking to see if people are okay and then responding to specific reports if they're missing loved ones There will of course be many more rescues that are added to the tiller Now we absolutely expect to have mortality from this hurricane that are just caution people There's a process by where that is confirmed and I know the people have said certain things in terms of confirmed that will be made a parent over the coming days But I think the things that have been said out there that is not something that has been confirmed at this juncture

"And we're moving forward so i i'm highly optimistic that we're going in the right direction. One of the things that have happened before july first a lot on the beaches you could call on your neighbor and file a co complain or you can call on somebody you can call a business and say their noise is too loud if you're over on third street or fourth street or whatever street and not even be anywhere near here and not have to give your name or address and the governor just signed a law that said as july first you have to include your name and address or your information. If you're going to file a complaint against somebody now. I don't really know if the town has to follow that or are they plan on implementing nat- or if it's different. I don't know the i guess. Who is it now. If someone calls is an anonymous here on the beach it is. And i haven't had a chance to speak with john here and yet about it so i read through it obviously and and and i understand so. I don't know exactly how it's going to affect. The town of fort myers beach. You know. let's assume it does. I'm in favor of We personally before. I was on council. We had an issue where someone called in on us for a boat being far out into the canal and we didn't even have a boat there okay and it was called in twice so i look at it as a you know people are allowed to call. There's a problem you should call. And i'm i'm a. I'm the type of person though. If i have a problem with a neighbor something i will usually try to go talk to them and and work it out that way. If not then you have to bring up bring into code enforcement or whatever to get to it. I prefer to go that route. Some people don't some people uncomfortable with with but again. I don't want people to be afraid if the if you have something need to learn about or you feel. That isn't right. You should definitely say something and again it goes back to that. They should not be afraid of to that right as well as you know coming into speak up about it. So i'm in favorite. I think it's good. I think that You know we have a lot of people that like to complain about things you know. Some of it is is very warranted. Some of it's not in my opinion. And i think this will. I wonder if that applies to hr ways to because you know those snooty it your way people just walk around your house to make sure you have the right color of red chips or you don't have a little fence where it's not supposed to be and and you never know who's doing that complaining not not that you want to go after that but i think that when the neighbor comes over and says something and you know your car is blocking this or you're not supposed to be parked in the road. Maybe you didn't know the rules. Maybe that is handled differently than getting a letter in the mail. That's threatening. They're going to put a lien on your house. Well maybe that was a statement. And you don't need to respond to that if you actually through..

"Lucky to the murphys All the way up to the present day when it's a state park so all the people who are involved in creating the park have a hand in that history then the displays walk you through the different habitats that you can find the part that said that florida is just a land of inches. You go a few inches and you're in a totally different ecosystem so what we've tried to do is to say. Hey we're a gorgeous beach. we know that. But there's also something to explore about what the state parks call the real florida eye that this is what people come for. They may come from for disney or they make to cape canaveral but what people really love most the gorgeous beaches and so the displays explain the habitats. That allow for those leeches. Whether it's nature work walks on the interior mangoes the estuary or the beach and dunes themselves. Now you mentioned that the about the layout of the building and then that the classrooms are downstairs. That correct to or outdoor classrooms back years. And we're eventually going to have a touch tank so little kids'll understand people who are unfamiliar with our environment here all understand what's inside an estuary so contain some of the fish and sea grasses that a healthy estuary contains but upstairs and this is really what i want. The public to understand is that we cannot thank you dave. Hi we've got this community room that we hope will host not only our educational programs. But if you want to use it as a space if you're community group a civic organization if your kids are getting married. We have amazing sunsets and we have kitchen facilities for catering purposes. We have storage areas we have. It's all wi fi and smart board outfit and we hope to have art exhibit so a lot so schools cut so schools. Can we've already had home schooled. Kids school kid. We've we've already had lee. County hosts their one of their end of the year department meanings we had. The fort myers beach garden club tour. You know we just really wanna see it as the people's place now. Speaking about classrooms and stuff. Let's talk a little bit about the ego arts camp. That's coming up So tell us about that when it starts all the good information all the good information. And what the echo arts mean right right so eager arts is something that some states like california Have pioneered where kids out in nature. He's sits there with the chainsaw. Cuts all these carvings from from. Would by hand no desire you know. They do Pelicans they do they'll do anything. Manatee or tripping over my cord. I asked everybody to get together to chip in and send you to vietnam so that you could take a trip there. Can you get off the cord okay. You're not going to get off the court all right. Well we'll come back. I don't nearly do them. Justice like you do thank you everybody for tuning in today Hate it when you do that much better. How did it go with your ad there. That's not good. Think not good you news. The lighting situation. I think you're a little too hard on everybody. Because i think that the situation is really complicated. Now and i also think that kovic really threw a wrench in things to everybody was still working during kovic so i guess when i when i look back at those those meetings back then or at that meeting back then and i see that. That was a perfect. You know setup for let me get as much information as i can i. I just think that issue should be the number one issue. And listening to bruce. Talk about it the way he was talking about it in that meeting. I mean i do miss bruce about that because he he was constantly harping on On the on the lighting and he was ready to go with that plan and he said you know he called Radio when ray was saying you know.

"Where i could see after the first consultant did it. And then after the council met they asked roger to go back and get someone else to come in and look at amber light. So i do believe again. I don't know this for certain. But i think they are tasked with looking at the solution of amber lighting for the for the roadway for sure and. Here's here's the other thing. I don't want to keep harping on it but the other thing that gets irritating when you watch those meetings is you know. They want to lay blame on the countywide. Isn't the county involved more. Fbi monopoly. they don't really care. Well you guys had not put together. I'm sure the county wants to be safer. But you incorporated you guys want it to be your own government and now because something is going awry you want to blame the county for it was. It was crazy to watch that. How about you put together a plan. How about you come up with three different ideas. And then you bring it to the county or go to rayson delhi and say we've got three ideas we want. We want you guys to pay fifty percent or we want you guys to pay a certain amount yet. it's just like they. Just the relationship with lee county doesn't exist. They don't go to any of their meetings. They don't participate at any of their board meetings to make. It seem like the relationship is getting any better but they wanna blame the county and so come up with a plan and here. We are again with another consultant will say this is really the first consultant. But whatever i mean you can't really blame it on lee county your incorporated. This is your town. Come up with an idea to fix it before you. You blame it on. Lake county or blame. Fbi for being. I know when you wash you folks you have to wash the two thousand and nineteen meeting because that really was told a big story at that meeting you can really see. There was some confusion but they really felt like the only way to go is amber lighting at the time. Now it's been two years so maybe they've changed things or maybe they'll find out so the the question for you but i don't think it was that i think my impression of that meeting was that they were..

"But i guess. I don't really i'm confused as to why you can't come up with a fixture not you but why there isn't a fixture to unique situation. It seems because it's still dark at night where the light shines on the road and a hundred percent is black behind it you can. That's what i'm saying l. complicated that. It's it's not complicated. I don't know why. I don't know why we're making it more complicated but we have lights with no back light and puts the light on the road and you can have a good uniformity throughout the system. So do you think it's because the people that the perhaps the turtle folks don't understand that the white lights can be okay. I do think that it's because there's a lot of emotion. As i said before we all love turtles and sometimes we think if we say everything i mean. I heard on that same commented that people were saying. Well we make the people on the in. The buildings use amber. So why would we make the town big. That's not a. That's not a good argument. I mean because the turtles can see the lighting over there. If the turtles can't see this over here why would you wanna use a lighting that actually contributes significantly to our carbon footprint. Cost us more money and you know an millions of dollars to to put that in. It's going to be very expensive to your point. I mean maybe the options have not been clearly have not been explained so that everybody can understand what they are and how that will be the thing. I mean the the folks and there's many folks besides the organizations that love the turtles. So i think it is incumbent on evers presenting to fully explain things so that they know the option. That's why you have a two hundred thousand dollar town manager who's supposed to go out and get all the information that he can bring back to the town council so they can see it instead. He just sits there with his thumb. His nose figuring how many people are gonna vote one way or the other way just to keep his job until he's ready to go to belize after his contract runs out or hopefully he gets fired before that but isn't that his job his job is to go out to all these different municipalities or to work with his legacy will be. He came into office or he came to. Fort myers beach without lights. And he's gonna leave without lights because there's no way those lights are going to be built with him as town manager and that should be the number one priority. It's so unsafe out there. It is so unsafe and yet it's it's just seems like oh by the way what's going on with the lights. Well did you want me to bring f. p. l. in it just it's it's it's almost criminal to me that that isn't the top priority for that council. I agree. I mean and i also agree with him. Thank you i do. Because i think that you're welcome. I think that. I think that the well intentioned folks don't understand you know there's always pluses and negatives of every decision you know and you know right now it's just a matter of taste. You know what i like. Do i like this or that. And there's an old saying in a matter of taste. There is no dispute. you can't. I can't argue if you want this over here but what i can do is say if you want amber and by the way i don't know if you know why you have to have amber on-road that's going to be shiny just on the road and not on the dunes then your other trade offs you know. Here's the cost. Here's what's going to happen to the island..

"Too and race and shot that right down. Change season to season. You can have a dull life source but led you don't and integrated led. But he had mentioned was that there are some towns that will say these fixtures are visible to the beach. So we're gonna turn those off during turtles and you know. I think i think some of the council members are. someone said. They didn't like that. I don't necessarily disagree with that. I think that's not a great thing. But there's another solution that f. b. pl could do and that would be to put them on a dimmer. We have wireless control systems that you can put a fixture in you can control them wirelessly so it's not only the color of light but it's also the intensity so that is what dan did talk about that about. Yep yep when he was on talked about you know being able to that the technology is out there to to be able to get them up and bring it down which is controlled by someone here on the beach so if there was an emergency and you needed them they got to crank among you can flash them during a period of emergency or during the turtle season you can if you had good uniformity. Let's say let's say they designed it to one foot candle just you know. Mount of life is put out. You could turn turtle season. Drop it to half of that. And you would still have visibility because his uniform so wireless controls in dimming a wider light whatever color you choose is also not a bad bet the other question i have to when you have all those amber lights that you need more polls i think everybody knows you need more polls there are so many businesses and and driveways along estero boulevard. Right now is it even possible to put enough polls up so that you have enough lighting at night without blocking driveway rearranging the sidewalks. To the point where you delight is continuing all the way down the road. That's a good question i don't. I don't know that there is for amber. Sorry what was the question little game that got a sure I think that For the white for a wider light the has more output and more distribution..

"That person looked like he. He knew what he was talking about. He gave them options. Well then they're getting on f pl they don't they don't give us options or their monopoly and they don't really care and how come we're still to me. It looks like the this town spends more time on trying to figure out how to get something setup for people that live in the water. Seventy people live in the morning field. And they're working so hard to build trailers under the bridge or find a two million dollar piece of property to buy and it just seems like this this this road which is so dangerous. Somebody got killed on the road because of the situation. From what ray said during the meeting it should be brought up every single meeting. Here's where we are. Here are some options. Here's what's going on. How about how about the town manager. Says i went to fort lauderdale and went to santa bell and went to every single beach town and i got all these report so you can see them and said we don't see any of that until somebody says. Oh by the way. What's going on with the lights. Yeah i think. I think the the the problem is that. There's a lot of conflicting opinions that are going on. Everybody has a lot of stakeholders. It's not just us on the meeting. There's a lot of input from the turtle. You know the people who are really focused on the turtles which we all are. I don't know anybody that doesn't turtles yes. I think that that's the first piece in an at that meeting. If you noticed on there they had that was. The first public comment was a lot of trouble. Time and other people make really good comments about the need to protect the turtles. Then you have people that you know in the stakeholders committee that are thinking about the color of lighting. There's some other studies that have been out there talking about the color of lighting whether it's a warm color or whether it's a medium or really bright thousand k. Lights that you see so you have that faction that's going on as well and then you have people who are just focused on what the cost is and you know if you know. How much is it going to cost and what. Fbi take care of it or whether the island is that what happened at that meeting..

"Today's episode is brought to you by starbucks. They say that starbucks nitro does for cold coffee. What music does for workouts road trips in grand. Romantic gestures sound too good to be true. Guess we'll just have to try it for yourself. Starbucks nature cold brew. It's called coffee that subtly sweet lush and velvety smooth only at starbucks welcome to brainstorm a production indivi- heart radio. Hey brain stuff. Lauren vogel bomb here. We humans tend to enjoy the ocean so it makes sense that we'd want to take a piece as of at home with us but be warned beachside souvenir hunting can land you in prison. If you go overboard case in point early in summer of two thousand eighteen a texas access woman was fined five hundred dollars and sentenced to fifteen days in jail by a florida judge for illegally harvesting forty. Queen conch shells her key west vacation. Queen conches are marine greene's nails who live in gorgeous shells of their own making florida allows people to collect the vacant shells but it's illegal to take one. That's still occupied by alive conch. The shells of the aforementioned i mentioned texan took had living breathing molluscs in them. Florida has a vested interest in these nautical treasures on the shell loaded island of santa bell a barrier community near fort myers beach coming as a major draw for tourists and when residents noticed their precious commodities were vanishing. They took action in the late. Twentieth century local local started worrying that out of towners repelling too many shells as a conservation measure. Santa bell banned the collection of any shells with their original mollusks still living inside as well as does any sand dollars starfish and sea urchins. The ban took effect in nineteen ninety five and has since been extended throughout santa bell's home county. If you've noticed shell depletion on the beaches he visit know that it's not just a matter of light fingered vacationers organized poaching has become a serious global concern. We spoke by email with vincent instant nyman an anthropology professor at oxford brookes university in the united kingdom and a twenty fifteen study he co authored nyman documented the illegal trade of indonesia's protected shells calls the indonesian government keeps a list of molluscs that are illegal to trade or collect within the republic's jurisdiction chambered nautilus triton's trumpets and some giant clams are among the creatures ostensibly protected by law there yet poaching is rampant. Neiman's paper tells of twenty illegal shipments were intercepted by the indonesian authorities between in two thousand eight and two thousand thirteen but together these busts yielded more than forty two thousand shells a protected species valued at seven hundred thousand dollars nyman even said it's very important to note that we're not talking about individual tourists collecting a couple of shells on the beach putting them in their suitcase and bring them home. We're talking about a large scale commercial trade where the shells are collected by active fishing scuba diving cages etc and where entire sections of the ocean floor are emptied he stresses the poachers like to grab occupied shells and then destroy animals within them. He explained that when the animals are alive their shells are usually excellent condition as opposed to shells that have been discarded and washed washed up on the beach which are often damaged mosques aren't the only animals who've been hurt by the reckless over hunting of sea shells when sales nautilus and other sea animals die of natural causes other creatures like to move into their former shell homes we also spoke by email with michael kousky an ecologist at the university of florida he he said the most obvious examples are hermit crabs which use empty shells as protective armor. There are in fact many marine habitats. It's hard to find an empty shell because hermit crabs inhabit but almost all of them when there aren't enough shelters go around hermit crab populations are curbed and housing is just one service that unused shells offer some sea creatures creatures and birds eat them for mineral supplements calcium carbonate others use the sturdy shells as anchors from other mollusks barnacles and many more the harvest of these shells isn't just bad for the local ecosystem. It's also bad for the environment and ultimately for the humans who live and visit their take yoga beach a lovely slice of the iberian peninsula tesla located in sao paulo spain hot vacation destination. That's enjoyed increasing popularity wanting to know more about how this rise and human activity was affecting the ecosystem colo. The ski rolled up his sleeves and hit the scene from july of nineteen seventy eight through july of nineteen eighty-one. He and his colleagues put together monthly catalogs of all the seashell material they could find on your a beach kulakowski returned decades later for a new round of surveys beginning in two thousand eight and ending in two thousand ten. His discoveries weren't encouraging tourism data revealed field an almost three fold increase in visitation between one thousand nine hundred and twenty ten during that same period the number of seashells on your beach fell by more than sixty percent coincidence incidents probably not other beachside communities should be worried about the same kind of decline in seashells and not just for environmental reasons shells tend to break up into particles that are bigger than typical sand grains these shell fragments helped beaches fight erosion by locking up making it harder for winds waves and water currents to move shoreline shoreline sediment around if we moved to many sea shells it'll become harder for beaches to resist the forces of erosion and that it affects short side buildings roads and other infrastructure so what's the solution nyman notes in many countries. There are excellent laws in place to prevent overharvesting companies and individuals should follow the existing existing regulations and the authorities should enforce them. It is an economic crime and should be handled such he added the prosecutors. Judges must take large-scale poaching operations more seriously.
