How I Got Here with Dave Fiore
A highlight from Episode 53: Kristi Kreitlow and Marina Lickson
"It was very challenging because what I found was we were doing a really good job. There was a need for, you know, good cleaning companies in Tallahassee. And because it's she and I, we were in it and we did it really well. And so what happened was three years into it, we were, my phone was ringing off the hook while we were at work. And I'm like, it's not fair to my employer to continue to try to build my business. You know, and getting calls during the day, couldn't do it. So we sat down one evening and we actually added up the amount of buildings that we could clean ourselves to supplement my income as paralegal. So I could quit doing that and then put all of my effort into my business. I thought if I could do, if I could work as hard for my daytime jobs, I'm working for myself. How much money could you make? Wow. So that's how it started. From Fiore Communications, it's How I Got Here, a show of inspiring stories from Tallahassee area leaders, business owners, and neighbors, all the challenges, opportunities, inspirations, the twists and turns of life that led them to where they are today. Everyone has a story worth telling. And I am really grateful that we get to bring a few of them to you. I truly have been changed by my conversations with these amazing people, and I'm confident you will be too. I'm Dave Fiore, and welcome to the special Chamber Conference edition of the How I Got Here podcast. My first guest is Kristi Critelow. Kristi is the CEO and founder of Quick and Clean commercial cleaning services. The Fort Myers native is married to her husband, Walt, and they have two daughters, Caitlin and Lexi, as well as two dachshunds, Willow and Grace, which sounds like a TV show. Is that? Maybe? OK. All right, so first welcome, Kristi. And thanks for being here. So you were born and raised in Fort Myers, right? So tell us about what family life was like for you, parents, siblings. Kind of what were those early years like? So I grew up in Fort Myers. I spent a lot of time on the beach. I have a younger brother and then my mom and dad, both of my sets of grandparents lived in Fort Myers as well. So we had a really close family growing up. So you had family around? All the time. OK. And then what brought me to Tallahassee was I applied for FSU to go to school. And my dad happened to get a job offer up here at the exact same time. So I was able to actually move with them up to Tallahassee and stay at home. And go to school. And then I worked as a waitress in the evening just to make a little bit of money. OK. Well, we're not going to let you get away with your early years quite that quickly. Oh, darn. So we're going to come back. So no, no, that's fine. So what kind of kid were you? What kind of student were you? Did you like school? Were you involved in things? Kind of give us a snapshot of that. I did very well in school. I was a Navy student. I always wanted to never disappoint my father. And so I had to do really, really, really well. Yeah. OK. So did you have any interest or activities or anything in school? The beach. The beach. That was it. That's all that mattered in high school was the beach. OK. And sometimes skipping school. So you went to the beach during school hours. I did. OK. All right. Well, I'm sure there's a statute of limitations on that. You're probably fine. All right, so you graduated from Cypress Lake High School. I did. Right? And then you went to Edison Community College? Right. And it was named after Thomas Edison because that was his winter home. I assume everybody knows that. But if you're from that area, I lived in that area for a while. So did you have a career plan for after school? Did you know what you were going to do? I always was very interested in law enforcement and law work. It's something that interests me. So I decided at that time I was going to go to school and become a paralegal. So I did that. I went through Edison. And then I went to the National Center for Paralegal Training and became a certified paralegal and spent 25 years of my life as a paralegal. OK. So just real quickly, describe what a paralegal does. What was your job? My focus was civil litigation because I love that so much. It was a lot of organizing, getting the lawyers ready trial.

No, those things that you burn over a fire with the chocolate in the middle. Oh, the s'mores. Yeah, we don't have that chemicals. You missed out. I don't think so. I don't miss them at all. Yeah, you haven't noticed that the average lifespan of man has increased. Yeah, and it's all been with preservatives, we've been eating it. I tell you what. What are you, a dietician now? No, I think it has a lot to do with the guy Mary's. Oh, that might be. Remember what my friend Roman said? Yeah. My ex -wife, she was specialist. She find problem for every solution. Remember that? And this is Rob with that. We can go to our business. Yeah. Why don't you get right to the business? Yeah. So business is very simple. What is it business? You know what happened in three o 'clock in the morning when you were sleeping? I don't know. I was sleeping. I mean, it makes sense that I wouldn't know. I know. I know what happened yesterday. We didn't know anything either. Oh, we did know though. What? Yeah, we know. Now we know. Yeah. So since we know and I know since three o 'clock in the morning, but you don't know. And now I know. Now you don't know yet. You will know and everybody else will know too. We are live with our podcast in Bezos heaven and also Spotify. Oh, look at that. Yeah. So we got invitation email for a podcast to be published in Amazon music. You know, so we are since three o 'clock in the morning and also on Spotify. You can find us on those two platforms, which I think is a fantastic. Yeah. That is really millions and millions of listeners. So we're going to get our voices five million, I think in the Amazon one. Yeah. We're going to subscribers. I don't know. Yeah. 55 million subscribers. Yeah. It's a small that's chump chain. Yeah. Yeah. So, um, we're going to ruin 55 million lives. I don't want to be responsible for that. Oh, you don't want to be responsible for anything, but I can see the, uh, except for putting sun tan lotion on people. Yeah. I'll take the responsibility for it. It's easy. Yeah. So, um, since, uh, Mr. Bezos was so generous and send us that invitation email, I want to just, you know, pay forward and give him a little shout out here on that very valuable, very important and very famous podcast from divine Naples. And that is that, uh, Mr. Bezos, when he gets his, uh, uh, items back, uh, when somebody returned them and that they don't want them, uh, he needs to get rid of them. So he established businesses and one of them is called hot bins. And that is in, uh, in Fort Myers. And, uh, I'll tell you what, it's actually a very interesting business. They get, uh, all these returns from a big corporations and big, uh, back stores like Walmart, Kmart, and, and, uh, while targets and Amazon and everything, they pack them in the bins and they change the price daily. So I guess, uh, I think Tuesday is the day when they bring new merchandise and the price is certain amount for each item is same price. Wow. That sounds like shopping. Yeah. You don't have to do your window shopping shopping. Let's go, honey. Yeah. Uh, that's exactly right. What I would say if I go and your wallet's going to be a little lighter when you get home, but maybe the trunks are going to be heavier. I don't know. You got, can you fit a lot of junk in here? Yeah. Talked about junk the other day. Well, junk. I have a big garage. Yeah. And then you do the garage sale. That's exactly right. Now I feel, I feel where you're going. There you go. That's exactly what the American economy's on. Somebody spends the money. So you just get done yesterday or the day before. I can't remember. I can't remember what, you know, five minutes ago, uh, you just got done telling people to, to, to not shop and fill their garage stores, but now you're telling them to go up to Fort Myers and binge shop. It makes so much sense. And then when you get done binge shopping and get home and look through all this stuff and use it once you can go, I don't really need this. Put it in the garage and go ahead and pay a couple of months on the interest and that type of stuff. And then just open up your garage door in two weeks and start selling it for about 10, 10 % of what you bought it for. But that's exactly what I said three days ago. And you look at me that I'm crazy because and now you're using it against me. Don't, don't, don't store up a bunch of stuff in your garage, but you got to go binge shop. Anyway, it makes all the sense in the world to me. I'm just, you said that's your, that's your favorite sports garage sales, but it's like with my ex wife, I was like, Oh really? And we got to go out and do this garage sale thing again. And then, you know, it was always never just thinking about what's good for the other person. I should have just said, Hey, if that, if she's into that, let's go and do it and make the best of it. And then if I was smart in those times, like you tell everybody I lived in caveman days. So I'm going through the garage sales. I could have found some things of value. I mean, you go out to the Valley where they grow stuff. I'm not saying, I mean, your dad and you are farmers. I'm not saying all farmers are kind of low IQs or anything, but they got stuff in their garage. That's worth money. And if I would have just been a little smarter and educated on what you could find in the golf, uh, in a, in a garage sale, I might've made some, some money anyway. So everybody go been shopping, but you have this rampage here, which is a point is taken, but you have to understand my reasoning. Yeah. Okay. My reasoning is I'm trying to kill, uh, with a two flies with one shot because I, I trying to save some energy over here. Right. So stroke Bezos.

All these balloons are, we have sending over so many balloons. And those are only the four, we detected, but this a lot more trust me, I know this work fact. Pauly. I've asked you, Paul. Should we launch a preemptive strike against the red Chinese, get them before they get us? You know what? I have no idea. Haven't you haven't you signed in to the Bush doctrine of preemptive strikes? How did that work out in Iraq? How did that work out? People were crazy. Crazy than me. I was busy all day looking for white supremacists. By the way, Broadway Billy, you were a targeted group. Black man did you see any white supremacists menacing you threatening you? I fornicating you. Did you see them, Bill Lee? Of course you did not. Avery, it was a little sharper than you, Bill Lee, because you your friend won a wolf happens to be Jewish and white, so you've overlooked his whiteness because he sent solidarity with you playing shuffleboard down in Fort Myers. At your condos, but Avery, who has spent hours preparing or Frank murano extravaganza, maybe the whitest person who has ever existed in this world, Frank murano. "And espouse common sense. Today we'll be joined by Andrew Giuliani. Stay tuned, folks for him. Lots going on. We want to definitely send our thoughts, prayers, wishes to all of those in Florida, especially Fort Myers just got absolutely whacked by hurricane Ian. And if you have any friends, family, or if you're actually down there, we really hope you've been safe. We hope that your family can recover because this was a whopper. Yeah, I think the craziest part was they really didn't know for a while what it was going to hit, right? They thought maybe South Florida, then it went to Tampa, then it came back to Southwest Florida. It was a pretty wild, I guess we'll call it 48 to 72 hours of not knowing and not because they were not doing their jobs just because the thing changed. It was pretty crazy. Yeah, and this isn't the time to talk about, you know, what did people do wrong or what do we have to fix? And, you know, should we reconsider certain destinations and all that kind of thing? It's not the time to do that. I'm sure that the leaders, the mayors, the governor, Ron DeSantis, is going to be going through all of those details, the first and foremost thing, though, is make sure everyone's safe. Make sure everyone is out of harm's way. All these utility trucks. You see the one clip there were tens of thousands of utility trucks basically all queued up ready to go. I mean, that's what America is all about, right? It's about getting back together in a common cause and especially during these types of tragedies. I'm sure you saw the clip of the one reporter trying to get political with the santas on this and he just shut it right down. Break down. And that's what you need. That's what a leader does. A leader doesn't get wrapped up in an asinine question like that. They go, no, no, no, stop. And that's what he does.

"Get over to the newsroom now for a check of the global news as we see wi WTI trade at $81 a barrel, Denise Pellegrini joins us Denise. Thank you, Juliet and Ian has regained hurricane strength threatening to strike again, South Carolina the next target it's left massive damage behind it that is destroyed the coastal Fort Myers area and may also destroy the Florida property insurance market. Raw sewage meantime now swirling with floodwaters. Some good news though, Orlando reopening its airport tomorrow at noon, all closed ports in Florida said to reopen Saturday. Vladimir Putin vowing to annex parts of Ukraine Russia controls tomorrow. U.S. senators so threatening new sanctions against any country that recognizes the move. Some Republicans suggesting meantime that China may have used COVID lockdowns to separate U.S. diplomats from family members and coerce the diplomats into revealing U.S. intelligence they're calling for an investigation. And hope you like a free plane ticket to Hong Kong Juliet because local media outlet sing Tao says the government they're reportedly planning to give away a half million plane tickets. This is to lure visitors back when the government removes remaining COVID restrictions. Put your order in Juliet, but we're not sure if they're letting journalists take advantage of this hope so though. Probably not. I'm sure Brian can't wait till I get back to Hong Kong and he can see me again. His face on our Zoom call indicating perhaps. Not that excited. Let's get back to, I guess. Olivia desi head of apec of flag research at contigo joining us on the line from Singapore. I mentioned there again the PBOC trying to stem the decline in the currency and we are looking ahead to the PMI data which is expected to show once again weakness in this economy. When do things start to turn around for the China story, Olivia. I think this is hard to tell because we don't know when the policies will be lifted. So as long as the policy is still overhanging and there could be winter is coming and we could expect another surge in new cases and therefore another series of lockdowns. So that's the big question right now. I think people are going to avoid that question for the time being. Simply because there's just too many unknown unknowns. You've got higher volatility about 10% more than you had in an earlier in the summer. So also, again, on a daily basis, your probability or possibility of losses are bigger than they used to be. So you have to be more sure about the return side of the equation now. And I think given the way that the narrative is going on both to your political climate change, you name it macroeconomic news. Nothing really is positive right now. So I think the return side of the equation is probably taking a hit, which means since the risk side is going up, a lot of people have to jump out. So I think for the days or weeks, it's going to be a kind of a negative net risk appetite market and that's going to go on a lot. With the party Congress coming up, China is expected to push further on its goal of common prosperity. And we heard that from the senior party ideologists, how about young or Hyundai Chung? So when I read that, I just started thinking that that probably means that you're going to have this overhang of regulatory constrictions to continue for some time to come in China. And I think many of us were hoping that that was going to be easing during this period. Your thoughts on that. I mean, it's possible, but again, I would say around especially around an event like this, which is very much domestic, a lot of the a lot of the talk that you hear is aimed at a local audience, not necessarily a business audience or a global audience. Same thing around U.S. election periods or anywhere else people are playing to the local electorate or in China just to the local party bosses. So I wouldn't read too much into it. We always knew that regulatory risk is high in China because they can very quickly decide that no shorting know this. You can't get out. You can't get your money out in the greedy money out for now. So this has always been in the background. And I don't think it's new for investors. A very big weekend here, Olivia in Singapore for the F one, and you're looking at the Porsche IPO that we saw in Europe as a guide of investor sentiment. What do you see there? Yeah, I think this one will be interesting because they priced it at the very high end of the range. Indicating that it's baseball's wagon and then their bankers believe that wealthy consumers are not going to change their buying patterns. So it will be interesting to see what investors think of that, maybe investors are also worried that the high net worth consumers is starting to pull back on the spending as well. So I think I look at that as an indication of what the market yields and that consumer spending. So you have basically through this interview not been as bearish as what many people are thinking of. But I guess if you think about the past 12 years, Olivier, we've had returns in the stock market of about, say, ten, ten, 11% per annum. At the same time, risk free assets were zero. So that gap was huge, but now you can buy treasuries, get 4%, and you've got earnings coming down. So this would be a tough time for equities to say in the next 6 months to a year. I think less than that, I think, I think this could be just temporary because we've been preparing for this for 18 months now. So I think most people have either positioned themselves for a very scenario or have already, unfortunately, out of time, Olivia desia from contigo

Gov. DeSantis: Rescues Underway, Waiting to Confirm Number of Deaths
"People have been rescued from places like Fort Myers Fort Myers beach sanibel Marco island as well as the barrier islands in Charlotte county obviously there was a lot of calls coming in as the storm was really raging yesterday People who did not evacuate were hunkered down There was storm surge there was a lot of apprehension understandably when initially the first responders came this morning People would wave them down whether they were by helicopter boat or high water vehicle Now what they're finding is on places like sanibel most of the residents are just waving Thank you for coming but they say that they're fine And that they're staying put now I think that there's going to be issues with being on some of those islands because they're not going to have services like we expect for quite some time given the limitations of transportation but nevertheless that's a sign that some of the folks who did ride it out are stabilized in their home They are first responders are doing targeted searches just going home by home checking to see if people are okay and then responding to specific reports if they're missing loved ones There will of course be many more rescues that are added to the tiller Now we absolutely expect to have mortality from this hurricane that are just caution people There's a process by where that is confirmed and I know the people have said certain things in terms of confirmed that will be made a parent over the coming days But I think the things that have been said out there that is not something that has been confirmed at this juncture

"U.S., but in some others. And that's a check of markets risk. All right, well, we do check them every 15 minutes or so But watching for more sanctions on Russia and hurricane Ian slamming into Florida, let's get over to the newsroom and join Bloomberg said Denise Pellegrini for the latest global news. Rashad Ian is making landfall has made landfall as a category four storm near Fort Myers one of the strongest ever to hit the state governor Ron DeSantis, saying the surges hit 12 feet in some places, and the governor says conditions are so bad now. Anyone who chose not to evacuate, well, they may just have to write it out on their own. Obviously, local responders can make decisions, but by and large, until the storm passes, you know, they are not going to go into a situation for rescue and put their own folks at risk. So governor descent is saying the storm surge 12 feet near Fort Myers meteorologist Dennis Phillips with W FTS saying he's hearing 14 feet from viewers. When you're building home is on the West Coast of Florida, I'm not so sure a lot of people take into account a 15 or a 20 foot surge or at the very least water coming that high and some houses are just floating away in Pasco sheriff's office is warning about live power lines in the floodwaters Patrick fuller is Florida's emergency management director in Charlotte county. We are urging residents to continue to remain in their homes away from windows and hunker down safe as possible. Meantime in Washington, The White House says it stands by ready to help Florida aid is not political. It says White House press secretary Jean Pierre. There's no politics in this when we talk about extreme weather when we talk about what we're seeing right now with a category four hurricane about to any moment now about to hit the coast of Florida. This is about the people of Florida. White House press secretary queen Jean Pierre, rising tension over the war in Ukraine with Russia holding that referendum in Ukrainian territory some calling it a land grab. Meantime the head of Ukraine's nafta gas says Russia may try to attack Ukrainian gas infrastructure and watch for more sanctions on Russia the State Department sanctions coordinator this is ambassador James O'Brien says the U.S. and allies are working on targeting finance technology human rights and energy in a new round of sanctions. "So you can get whatever color you want to match your house. There's the chainsaw guy that's on the property. And he's out back. I went and saw them. That was amazing. He's sits there with the chainsaw. Cuts all these carvings from from. Would by hand no desire you know. They do Pelicans they do they'll do anything. Manatee or tripping over my cord. I asked everybody to get together to chip in and send you to vietnam so that you could take a trip there. Can you get off the cord okay. You're not going to get off the court all right. Well we'll come back. I don't nearly do them. Justice like you do thank you everybody for tuning in today Hate it when you do that much better. How did it go with your ad there. That's not good. Think not good you news. The lighting situation. I think you're a little too hard on everybody. Because i think that the situation is really complicated. Now and i also think that kovic really threw a wrench in things to everybody was still working during kovic so i guess when i when i look back at those those meetings back then or at that meeting back then and i see that. That was a perfect. You know setup for let me get as much information as i can i. I just think that issue should be the number one issue. And listening to bruce. Talk about it the way he was talking about it in that meeting. I mean i do miss bruce about that because he he was constantly harping on On the on the lighting and he was ready to go with that plan and he said you know he called Radio when ray was saying you know.

"Where i could see after the first consultant did it. And then after the council met they asked roger to go back and get someone else to come in and look at amber light. So i do believe again. I don't know this for certain. But i think they are tasked with looking at the solution of amber lighting for the for the roadway for sure and. Here's here's the other thing. I don't want to keep harping on it but the other thing that gets irritating when you watch those meetings is you know. They want to lay blame on the countywide. Isn't the county involved more. Fbi monopoly. they don't really care. Well you guys had not put together. I'm sure the county wants to be safer. But you incorporated you guys want it to be your own government and now because something is going awry you want to blame the county for it was. It was crazy to watch that. How about you put together a plan. How about you come up with three different ideas. And then you bring it to the county or go to rayson delhi and say we've got three ideas we want. We want you guys to pay fifty percent or we want you guys to pay a certain amount yet. it's just like they. Just the relationship with lee county doesn't exist. They don't go to any of their meetings. They don't participate at any of their board meetings to make. It seem like the relationship is getting any better but they wanna blame the county and so come up with a plan and here. We are again with another consultant will say this is really the first consultant. But whatever i mean you can't really blame it on lee county your incorporated. This is your town. Come up with an idea to fix it before you. You blame it on. Lake county or blame. Fbi for being. I know when you wash you folks you have to wash the two thousand and nineteen meeting because that really was told a big story at that meeting you can really see. There was some confusion but they really felt like the only way to go is amber lighting at the time. Now it's been two years so maybe they've changed things or maybe they'll find out so the the question for you but i don't think it was that i think my impression of that meeting was that they were..

"But i guess. I don't really i'm confused as to why you can't come up with a fixture not you but why there isn't a fixture to unique situation. It seems because it's still dark at night where the light shines on the road and a hundred percent is black behind it you can. That's what i'm saying l. complicated that. It's it's not complicated. I don't know why. I don't know why we're making it more complicated but we have lights with no back light and puts the light on the road and you can have a good uniformity throughout the system. So do you think it's because the people that the perhaps the turtle folks don't understand that the white lights can be okay. I do think that it's because there's a lot of emotion. As i said before we all love turtles and sometimes we think if we say everything i mean. I heard on that same commented that people were saying. Well we make the people on the in. The buildings use amber. So why would we make the town big. That's not a. That's not a good argument. I mean because the turtles can see the lighting over there. If the turtles can't see this over here why would you wanna use a lighting that actually contributes significantly to our carbon footprint. Cost us more money and you know an millions of dollars to to put that in. It's going to be very expensive to your point. I mean maybe the options have not been clearly have not been explained so that everybody can understand what they are and how that will be the thing. I mean the the folks and there's many folks besides the organizations that love the turtles. So i think it is incumbent on evers presenting to fully explain things so that they know the option. That's why you have a two hundred thousand dollar town manager who's supposed to go out and get all the information that he can bring back to the town council so they can see it instead. He just sits there with his thumb. His nose figuring how many people are gonna vote one way or the other way just to keep his job until he's ready to go to belize after his contract runs out or hopefully he gets fired before that but isn't that his job his job is to go out to all these different municipalities or to work with his legacy will be. He came into office or he came to. Fort myers beach without lights. And he's gonna leave without lights because there's no way those lights are going to be built with him as town manager and that should be the number one priority. It's so unsafe out there. It is so unsafe and yet it's it's just seems like oh by the way what's going on with the lights. Well did you want me to bring f. p. l. in it just it's it's it's almost criminal to me that that isn't the top priority for that council. I agree. I mean and i also agree with him. Thank you i do. Because i think that you're welcome. I think that. I think that the well intentioned folks don't understand you know there's always pluses and negatives of every decision you know and you know right now it's just a matter of taste. You know what i like. Do i like this or that. And there's an old saying in a matter of taste. There is no dispute. you can't. I can't argue if you want this over here but what i can do is say if you want amber and by the way i don't know if you know why you have to have amber on-road that's going to be shiny just on the road and not on the dunes then your other trade offs you know. Here's the cost. Here's what's going to happen to the island..

"Too and race and shot that right down. Change season to season. You can have a dull life source but led you don't and integrated led. But he had mentioned was that there are some towns that will say these fixtures are visible to the beach. So we're gonna turn those off during turtles and you know. I think i think some of the council members are. someone said. They didn't like that. I don't necessarily disagree with that. I think that's not a great thing. But there's another solution that f. b. pl could do and that would be to put them on a dimmer. We have wireless control systems that you can put a fixture in you can control them wirelessly so it's not only the color of light but it's also the intensity so that is what dan did talk about that about. Yep yep when he was on talked about you know being able to that the technology is out there to to be able to get them up and bring it down which is controlled by someone here on the beach so if there was an emergency and you needed them they got to crank among you can flash them during a period of emergency or during the turtle season you can if you had good uniformity. Let's say let's say they designed it to one foot candle just you know. Mount of life is put out. You could turn turtle season. Drop it to half of that. And you would still have visibility because his uniform so wireless controls in dimming a wider light whatever color you choose is also not a bad bet the other question i have to when you have all those amber lights that you need more polls i think everybody knows you need more polls there are so many businesses and and driveways along estero boulevard. Right now is it even possible to put enough polls up so that you have enough lighting at night without blocking driveway rearranging the sidewalks. To the point where you delight is continuing all the way down the road. That's a good question i don't. I don't know that there is for amber. Sorry what was the question little game that got a sure I think that For the white for a wider light the has more output and more distribution..

"That person looked like he. He knew what he was talking about. He gave them options. Well then they're getting on f pl they don't they don't give us options or their monopoly and they don't really care and how come we're still to me. It looks like the this town spends more time on trying to figure out how to get something setup for people that live in the water. Seventy people live in the morning field. And they're working so hard to build trailers under the bridge or find a two million dollar piece of property to buy and it just seems like this this this road which is so dangerous. Somebody got killed on the road because of the situation. From what ray said during the meeting it should be brought up every single meeting. Here's where we are. Here are some options. Here's what's going on. How about how about the town manager. Says i went to fort lauderdale and went to santa bell and went to every single beach town and i got all these report so you can see them and said we don't see any of that until somebody says. Oh by the way. What's going on with the lights. Yeah i think. I think the the the problem is that. There's a lot of conflicting opinions that are going on. Everybody has a lot of stakeholders. It's not just us on the meeting. There's a lot of input from the turtle. You know the people who are really focused on the turtles which we all are. I don't know anybody that doesn't turtles yes. I think that that's the first piece in an at that meeting. If you noticed on there they had that was. The first public comment was a lot of trouble. Time and other people make really good comments about the need to protect the turtles. Then you have people that you know in the stakeholders committee that are thinking about the color of lighting. There's some other studies that have been out there talking about the color of lighting whether it's a warm color or whether it's a medium or really bright thousand k. Lights that you see so you have that faction that's going on as well and then you have people who are just focused on what the cost is and you know if you know. How much is it going to cost and what. Fbi take care of it or whether the island is that what happened at that meeting..

I've done stuff from all that part to ten million dollars the course of my life. No you sold a ten million dollar piece of property. Have you seen bill gates his property. You know they're getting divorced now. Devore's you see the property. They haven't seattle. Were three hundred million dollars. They have it has ten. How do you figure this out. That has ten rooms. Twenty four bathrooms. I mean that would work for me. But i don't understand how you build a house for ten like sleeping rooms at twenty four bathrooms. Well you figure each each bedrooms two bathrooms you have to have a his and hers sweet okay. So all that takes care of twenty of them and then four guest bathrooms for people. That aren't saying god. Okay well there are real estate and chester. So i guess that makes sense. So you're where is your ten million dollar property. That was in southie. Southeastern wisconsin and it was a commercial property wisconsin. Yeah that's where. I'm from originally came here a year ago. I've been selling real estate for twenty two years. Get on a plane. If they'll let you take a mask off and go enjoy life again. So i'm ready for that still. A little confused is the goal of the show to promote fort myers beach or is it to promote the fact that you're running around the beach with two women that are on your wife. The goal of the show is to promote eating playing staying in various beach. Towns fort myers. Beach is the goal of the first episode so every episode will will be feature length episode featuring a different town. Where do you think my microphone on. Microphone new arm here. CBS Sports Eye On College Basketball Podcast
College Basketballs Uncertain Return to the Court
"I on thursday. Tupper beat six rate. Kansas ninety awesome performance and then on friday afternoon mark to the gonzaga coach. Confirm that the zags beat auburn on friday morning. Nine hundred sixty seven after a player believed to be julian straw. They're tested positive for covid. Nineteen so norlander. We're gonna get into next credible opening week on the court second. But let's start here where you surprise in an auburn still played on friday after a gonzaga player test positive. I was surprised because my opinion is that if other teams and i'm not saying all other teams but many other teams were in that situation. The game would not have been played in my opinion. If gonzaga ran into the issues it ran into and it was playing in belleville. gonzaga would not have played. It's game on friday. Gonzaga might not have even played a game against kansas or fill in the other opponent again. If you put it in. And i'm i'm speaking from what i'm seeing here and the protocols and everything that goes into place to even holding this in the state of connecticut okay. Gonzaga had a member of its travel party test positive on thursday gonzaga took two different planes to the event specific and has taken two different buses. It's it's doing specifically to guard against this. But obviously there is no full on guarding against this so we played kansas. And we'll get but then you know at least one player as positive another believed to be The players roommate is kept out as a precautionary reason. And the game goes off because and you can speak to a gp. Frankly we'll we'll get to virginia san francisco the minute but i was i was. I was watching that game. So i didn't hear fuse press conference. I've seen some of what he said. They're the relying on the florida health officials as being the ones that were to clear it and the health officials down there made that determination and it might wind up that that determination is going to be okay in the end. But i've received four text messages from coaches to heads to assistance. All of them basically asking why in the hell is gonzaga in auburn. Being allowed to play right now one of them saying if this was us there is no shot in hell that we would have been able to play and so this this is certainly captured. A little bit of attention around the college basketball world understandably so gonzaga's looked awesome. But you can make an easy argument that it that it should not have a have played the game. What are your thoughts. And then what can you share for the listeners. That might not have seen a about what few said in his postgame. Zoom press conference. Okay so mark was clearly asked about it and he said he kept it very simple. He's did we followed turns guidelines not we tournament guidelines were were in place and established. We had this positive test. And then we follow the guidelines and then the florida health officials came in and they contact tracing how they contact tracing. They told us we were okay. We were cleared to play and we play. He kept it. He didn't really expand anymore than that but listen. They didn't do anything illegal. They possibly did something irresponsible but didn't do anything illegal. They didn't act in defiance of the tournament or florida. Health officials noted that florida as a state hasn't taken covid nineteen that seriously to begin with. So what florida. Health officials were okay. Where quite clearly would be the same thing that said california. Health officials are okay. Wis lucky if they wanted to play the game. They're lucky they were in florida as opposed to to somewhere else. And you're exactly right. It's bubble ville or in south dakota. I don't believe this game would have been played. Wichita state got sent home from south dakota because they had maybe a couple of people in the travel and party test positive. They were like okay. Get outta here. You're not playing today. you're not playing tomorrow. you're not playing it off. So i don't know that this game would have been played if it were a tournament. Where you're at or in south dakota but because this was sort of a thing they put together in fort myers as long. Auburn was cool to play and gonzaga wanted to play. they were allowed to pluck. I though was surprised that the game went off. Because i mean we've seen baseball teams. Get shut down over one positive test during the major league baseball season the world series if it would have if the dodgers did not win the game justin turner had to be removed because they got a positive test back of the game so they take justin turner around. They complete that game. The understanding was that game. Seven of the world series would not have been the following night. They would not have played until everybody can test test test for a few days and they make sure it's safe to play and so yes. I was surprised that they played the game. And hopefully nothing comes from it that it doesn't end up being a quote unquote superspreader of it. Because if we an outbreak now at gonzaga because by the way gonzaga tweet video from the locker room after the victory over kansas and they're all celebrating no mask jewish authors in front of mark. Few right in the middle of the celebration. He is believed to be the one who test positive. So hopefully nothing comes of this but if we have a subsequent outbreak at gonzaga or subsequent at auburn gonzaga is going to become the biggest story in college basketball. And it's not going to be a sports story anymore. It won't be because jalen suggs looks. Incredible it'll be because they knew they positive test in their locker room and they played less than twenty four hours putting their players at risk and the auburn players at risk. I hope it doesn't come to that. But if it comes to that this becomes a bigger story than just to college basketball story. It becomes something that's on. Cbs evening news. Yeah we'll wait and see if that does happen. I mean auburn's gotta be you know held equally responsible and all of this because it opted to play the game regardless you know there was no self imposed penalty here. Handed down by bruce pearl. That was not in play on friday and so inherently like. You know the chances. Go up that you're going to potentially be infected. We don't know but it's clearly out there. I mean there are. There are no shortage of schools and athletic directors coaches. Just straight up would not play the game. So we'll wait arizona. State would not play baylor because the baylor coach tested positive. Not even a player who was who was gonna who was on the court with other players twenty four hours earlier right and that came from that even came from above. Bobby's hurley's bobby hurley's had which is the case in a lot of these instances but frankly what gonzaga auburn decided to do it. Just flies in the face of convention in college sports in professional sports that we've seen and we'll will you know we're recording this on friday afternoon. We'll wait and see what's going to happen here. Gonzaga's got some high profile games ahead and we're really enough one of them's blade baylor like if there's if there's one team that's actually going to be good with this like it's baylor. They might just play the game regardless. But we'll wait and see if either of these teams are now forced because if it gets another positive one after that like they have no choice. They're going to have to shut down for two weeks and then ask themselves if playing against auburn was really worth it you know. Was it worth it. Because now you're gonna lose these other games
