"I mentioned a certain sportscasting last half hour that Overnight kind of hitting home a little bit closer here, at least with the White Sox having a couple of players testing positive for covert 19 both have been isolated here in the Chicago area won't be allowed back in the facility. Until they have a consecutive negative tests. Fork over 19 names have not been released. That's a club policy and Yeah, I know the HIPPA laws and everything like that. I mean, it's it's understandable, but we certainly wish those two who are said to be asymptomatic, the best in their recovery from covert 19th Let's switch gears completely here. Let's talk Tio Brian Kelly. He was the retail actually with the Chicago Architecture Association here, and I walk through time, one of the tours that's going on also the retail revolution on State Street, so private understanding this correctly, one of those virtual and one of them is actual reality. Absolutely. Morning, Andy. Um, have a thing about the virtual one. Sure. With the challenges obviously leading walking tours up until recently were on the street now and on the river to, um, we have created a program called CHP Live and one neither online videos that at eight o'clock on Wednesdays and one o'clock in the afternoon on Sundays. And I lied. I lied. One called titled Retail Revolution on State Street. And tell us a little more about that, because I know that State Street obviously the Great street. Everybody knows it as and and shopping was a huge early in the 1900 also even into the 19 fifties and sixties. Oh, absolutely. I bet my personal background is I I ran retail stores. Actually, Randy old Eddie Bauer store on water ration and was responsible for brand fears. And I've also have a degree in history of architecture. So what I wanted to create was this convergence between, um architecture and retail and how This. Economy was changing in this period between 18 92 and 1917 and how it was revolutionary, both in Chicago but frankly, around United States. And what a great thing to be able to combine those two interest for you because most of those stores if I'm not mistaken, you're the old Marshall Fields there on state tree, which is now Macy's still kind of a bone of contention for a lot of true Chicago, and I don't like the college. Macy's calling Marshall Field's still but Beautiful buildings to Oh, yeah, You know, they're seven buildings. There were several buildings originally called The Seven Sisters. And these at the time were Marshall Field Fluff injured Mayor which became Carson period. Scott Mandel Brothers, which we came. We bolt were all child in company, which became Goldblatt, the Boston store, which basically became variety of different things. And then there was Seigel Cooper, which became Sears down on the south End of State Street and the fair and the affair lasted into the late fifties and eventually became Montgomery Ward. That building is gone, but the other six remained in place. It's amazing. You can walk, you know, just walk there and see these buildings and touching and realized with what they're saying. I mean, it's it's It's just a It's a history lesson Every time you walk by him, absolutely. My point is that when we talk about Chicago's world class architecture, we typically talk about the Paul buildings or we talk about residential, really architecture with Frank Lloyd Wright in the whole Prairie school. My point is public kind of fall between those buildings and then math of public structures like museums. They were so opulent. They were so massive and certainly with Marshall Field between the clock and the columns inside in the marble floors and the Tiffany feeling. These were spectacle places They brought people in and um, and kept them in the store. Ryan Kelly, a Tour guide for Chicago Architecture Center, joining us here on 7 20 W. G. N Let's switch gears and talk about things you can actually do. Ah, in person, and I know that there is going to some protocols in place. I'm sure for For covert 19 but walk through time as I'm reading a little bit more about this. I'm fascinated by skyscrapers and won my favorabilities in the entire city is as the old John Hancock building I just love the way it stands up and when you come in tow lakeshore drive into the city, But the skyline here in Chicago is changing so much. There's so many big buildings being built. Oh, absolutely. The walking time Tour is a chronological time tour. So we start off on the river and we talk about the Chicago origin story beginning with Fort Dearborn, and then we get over to State Street. And and review that you know the coming of the golden age of buildings, the steel skeleton and then the ability to go up and then we pivot into Art Deco, and then we move into modernism and postmodernism on the river. And your tours depart right down the street from us here. We're 3 to 3 Is Wacker. You guys were at 1 11 He's Wacker. Now tell us about when they want people can come out and how many people are limited to each group now? Walking tours are available seven days a week. The walk through time tours available Thursday through Mondays at 10 30 in the morning, one o'clock in the afternoon and then three PM Those tours are limited to six. People per tour. But we have several doses scheduled for each time so we can we can bring a group out, but we limited to six and we obviously we really followed the protocol of Everyone's wearing face protection we ensure social distancing and, of course, Koto keep your hands clean, Interesting stuffing again. Yeah, obviously paying attention to what's going on with covert 19 and we knew you as word, but give us a taste of what you might might say to people. Says You're starting on the river right here in front of all your offices. Well, you know, it's so fascinating to be standing up above the Chicago River when it was you know, 400 years ago, it was just a lazy creature with Native Americans moving up and down the river and up and down the lakefront. Chicago was the center of commerce back in the day, and, of course, through the creation of technology shook the river gets widened and connect Chicago with the Mississippi River. And the, uh, the whole Gulf of Mexico. So Chicago has been the center of Commerce off very early times, and we continue to have that today. I know you guys have a lot of different tours that are available for folks as well. I mean, I've always I can't believe I've been in Chicago most of my life and I haven't taken the architectural tour on the river on the boat. It's I don't know why champs by all means you should pop in because right now, we last two days. We started back up on the river on Friday, and I was down there yesterday. Actually talking to the crews. And, um you know, we're filling up. We're going out. We're running a more limited. Uh, total passenger load per per trip, But doing it comfortably and people are certainly enjoying it. Certainly the weather is perfect for prime working folks Find out more information. Please come on. Tio ch dot.

It goes back that far on time ago day long long time ago, but we mentioned north Hampton today because it is the birthplace of a man named. Henry Dearborn is named for Henry Dearborn. Henry dearborn. Michigan. You're in the right track. Brian in the automobile in history. Well, no, not really, but the name is appropriate. Henry Dearborn was one of our first secretaries of what they called war. It's now Defense Secretary on the cabinet. Okay. And one place in particular here in Chicago was named for him four Dearborn which I was telling Andy. Dawned on me when I was putting this together this morning that the original fort Dearborn the Ford Dearborn site is steps away from where we are right now at Michigan in Wacker drive. Correct. We get weather. We get knowledge we get some history. Get everything wrapped up in one. That's what we shoot for. Your aim is true as Elvis Costello. It's just like having an apple shot off my head last month that tree time. Did you do that? Well. I watched the real deal. I wanna hold Isaac Newton who actually pulled the pulled the train did.
