Three twenty eight and sinclair on big horn road in fort collins. Also coming in at three twenty eight for a gallon gas now. This as news was breaking. Adjust yesterday that so security recipients are getting a five point nine increase. That's an annual cost of living adjustment of five point nine percent this in twenty twenty two this according to the social security administration it's the largest increase since nineteen eighty two. Okay that's all well and good. But as i just ran through that rather extensive list of Price increases were pretty much seeing across the board and with the ongoing global supply. Chain crisis doesn't seem as though those prices are going to drop anytime soon because else we all know when we talk about gasoline prices for example There's sticky fast to increase but it seemingly slow to drop will rising prices for social security recipients. Even though they are slated to get that five point nine percent increase next year will rising prices actually offset that boosts tale that with this mazing piece. I had pulled out of the wall street journal and we all knew it was coming that winter of jain enormous gas bills..

"In greeley is going to be coming down. We talked about it a little bit of a week ago and the shenanigans that take place in that building the hp building angrily is going to be torn down bringing in now for a little bit more on this subject it is. Chris would editor and publisher with biswas. Chris what can you tell us about this. Well this is a story that's really been decades in the making. Tanner as you know. The site has been vacant for a long time Looking back at the history hewlett packard company at one point at about five thousand employees in northern colorado in fort collins loveland and greeley and greeley accounted for at one time About eight hundred employees. So this is a very large facility at opened up in nineteen eighty two and then around two thousand hewlett packard announced that they would close that planet stayed in operation and part up until about two thousand three when it was completely closed down and over the years. You've seen some of the property or that was on the hp land of become other things. There's a bank banka of colorado mcdonald's some some residential that has occurred there and as you as you indicated the building itself as falling into great disrepair a lot of analysts and that has occurred there but now it has Sold again and the new owners are planning to demolish that building and then resell it to the west ridge charter academy for athletic field and additional parking for staff so The end of a long long saga here For the hewlett packard presence in greeley i. It was definitely a hang out spots. I guess if you can call it For troublesome highschoolers across the way in across northern colorado A lot of Vandalism taking place in there too. so what's next. I know they is going to be more parking. What's going to be taken. Its place there with the sell of the building. Well the billy had sold and the next step would be for the the the owners to get demolition permits and to tear down the structure They would then sell resell. The land to the west ridge. Charter academy Which right. Now what we know is that they have plans for And athletic field and possibly additional parking there so It it is all Dependent on them able to get the permits being able to get permits. But i suspect that they will be able to do that. It is a real contrast in and Sad in some ways that that this building has has come to this end of course The economy has changed around the area around. It has changed..

Twenty twenty one. That's up a twenty five point seven percent year over year This is according to colorado's quarterly business and economic indicators report by the way that's a near record increase existing entity renewals. Were up one point. Seven percent compared with the second quarter of twenty twenty. You had colorado secretary of state. Jenna griswald saying just yesterday colorado's economic resilience has once again proved remarkable. Richard watkins is a senior economist and the faculty director of the leads. Bill heaven help us low mortgage rates code. Nineteen vaccines sorry. That was just an editorial aside. I couldn't stop myself and strong. Stock market performance all bode well for the state and national economy heading into the second half of twenty twenty one while the delta variance inflation staffing struggles and supply chain. Snags well obviously those represent some rather significant threat now. Despite those threats officials are expressing a good deal of optimism. Griswald saying it's like we're hiking up a fourteen and we're so close to the top while can agreed saying we're seeing a lot of really good reasons for the national economy to continue improving at a strong rate now while the entirety of colorado is in much better shape compared with twenty twenty parts of the state well bouncing back at different rates witness. "For the airport. Yeah absolutely The airports management had proposed or had recommended approval of a new jet sender proposal that would have displaced about sixty private aircraft owners With their with their aircraft in existing hangars this would have been a a new jet center. operated by fort collins loveland jet center fixed base operator at the airport and they were working to build a whole new complex. That would have As i said just waste. He's private aircraft owners That went to the northern colorado regional airports commission of course that airport is owned by the city of welland and fort collins and the airport commission voted unanimously unanimously. Not to move forward with that deal. saying that There needed to be more public input and potentially even a request for proposals this Project had been an unsolicited bid. Unsolicited proposal by the jets center. company and The commission Felt that it was not the not the right and that given that this is public. Land that There were probably needs to be some requests for proposals for this operation. So there were a lot of owners of aircraft At the airport. That were Upset about this proposal and The commission opted not to proceed so We'll see what happens in the future with this as to whether they will in fact Do r.i.p for this. Or what might what might transpire. What is your gut tell you. Why does this change directions. I mean normally when it's recommended and it looks like it's headed down a certain path not very often. Do you get the carpet. Pulled out from underneath of it but For a unanimous vote against it feels like something had to have changed. Well i i think that This was not something that had come from. The commission get account from airport management had. The commission voted in favor. It's still would've needed to have been approved by the loveland and fort collins city councils and i think that there was some concern. About of course. darren atteberry. The city manager of fort. Collins is on that commission and he raised some some issues with it in terms of what the public process should have been so. I think I think the writing was on the wall that It just wasn't going to be done in this way and I think certainly the airport is looking still would like to expand services. I think they would still like to get a return of passenger passenger service to the airport at some point but this particular deal Is is not is not happening and It was it was very a very machina. Economics in from our team attended this meeting and Heard the concerns that were that were expressed and the the fact that This was this would've been a thirty million dollar investment which Daring outta gertie atteberry from the city of fort. Collins said was Super attractive however he was concerned about the perception About how These this sort of decision gets made so We'll see whether this will come again in some form. I think that we will continue to be seeing a push for expansion of the airport And as i said eventually return of passenger service was this something that the city of london and fort collins. Were ready to move forward with. I mean. do you think that the city council's would have approved this or was there not enough word or did not reach close enough to that stage to be able to get there i. I don't think that in its current. Form that i would've gotten that approval. I think that This again was something that was submitted by It was an unsolicited proposal by by jet center and it was supported by the airport management but I think that the commission clearly. And and i think probably The commission clearly felt that there had not been enough public input and that the process needed to be revised For this proposal so I i don't think as it stood with the with the opposition and the fact that if there had not been a competitive bidding process I don't believe that it would have been approved by by the city councils but At this point it is an moot and we'll see whether it resurfaces a- at some In some form in the future. And i suspect we will see it resurfaced in some form of but but definitely with the additional public input talking with chris would editor and publisher with biz west. Chris unemployment numbers go back here in june. Yeah you know. They were fairly flat in colorado overall But i in in the four counties that we cover older and Broomfield larimer as well. We did see some uptick and Boulder and larimer counties Came in at five point. Five percent unemployment for june. That was up from a four point. Eight percent in boulder in may and four point nine and larimer and Brookfield was up to five point. Six percent. that was up from five point. One in may in weld county we We saw it crack. six percents again. The unemployment rate in june was six and a half percent and that was up from just under six percent in may and just As a comparison when when i look at well counties unemployment rate from a year ago It had spiked all the way up to ten point. Six percent that was the peak unemployment during the pandemic. But if you look back at june of twenty nineteen. It was only two point seven percent. So we're still More than double the unemployment rate that we saw pre pandemic So you know anytime. You see a monthly fluctuation. it's You have to be careful because there can be Lectu actions based on malady. The state does not adjust to county level members for They are not seasonally adjusted As they are for the state overall but It's still significant is the first Significant spike up that we have seen here in a while We did It did increase From Late last year But it has been pretty much on a downward path ever since december For well county. In in december it was at seven point four percent and it went down pretty substantially every every month since then But then this is a this is another spike so it is interesting Danger there there is a push Some some northern colorado business leaders Yesterday sent a letter to the governor urging him to end the The enhanced unemployment benefits early And and here we are. We're seeing a spike in unemployment here so They're feeling is that The the enhanced unemployment benefits are keeping people out of the workforce. And.

They kind of just have this attitude anytime you interview them. They just snippy. Pop has kind of been like that for awhile. T dixon is it. Is it just me or does even things like alonzo alonzo's interview. Yeah make you appreciate joker even more alonzo saying hey. I'm the best hitter in the game. I'm the best power hitter in the game. Does it make you appreciate joker even more. He's the best. There is phillies. The best power hitter in a game blah blah blah. Seems like every time we turn on the tv. There is some athlete telling us how great their listen. I don't really have a terrible problem with that as much because i liked unique personalities but it does make you kinda go while jokers really really unique. We do have drew kreutzmann with us now. Drew craftsman are rockies insider from from. Dnv iraq drew my friend. Always great to catch up with you. It's great to catch up with do gradients. It's blasting out here in the middle of everything i am in the thick of it. I'm at mcgregor square online. The middle of anyone watch the press conference that the main one was shohei otani and max scherzer managers and and all that yesterday. That is right where i am right now. I'm standing right in front of that stage and we've had a lot of texas texting in about some of been some want to know more about. Is it just something else down there and seeing the seeing this stuff on tv and all the camera angles is great but being there. I can't imagine my friend is amazing. It's it's absolutely wild brady. I cover the nfl ds pose in milwaukee and and in denver. And i thought you know okay. This is going to be bigger than that but it you know three four maybe five times. How naive a child. I was this. I've never seen so many people. There were seven thousand reporters on the field yesterday. I think i did a quick cow It's amazing it really is. It's cool but like i will also say it hasn't felt totally overwhelming. Sometimes these things can be a big mess. The vibes have been great out here. Everyone's having a good time. I think mcgregor square is handled. Everything it's needed to handle. Well they're doing a red carpet event right now. The american league allstars walking out and people are hollering and screaming good lord. Aaron judge is of a large band next glick in proximity right now. Yeah yeah what do you six foot. Hey let me just mosser's they look big on tv and then they're just like wife. It's amazing it's it's gotta be cool again. Seeing the atmosphere just via television last night for the derby was was absolutely regret taking. Oh yeah the derby that look. I'm biased because it's the only one i've been to and i was covering up pretty good speed but that was amazing. That was absolutely incredible. Everything from the the showcase. That pete alonso put on which just blew my mind to juan soto hitting a wall five hundred twenty feet his showdown with shohei ohtani the story of training and the way that he the crowd embraced him throughout the whole thing. i love to. Let's go rockies. Chant broke out. When trevor story came out. I thought that was really cool. The way race story the way they they blew up for knowing arnaldo coming out to give trevor story some water that was probably the biggest ovation of the fire night drew. That was what for some reason that hit me. More than nolan. And the crowd given him the ovation. If you a few weeks ago or a few days ago for some reason that moment really bothered me. Like i. I loved it and i was really sad at the same time you know. Why brady it's because they tell us all the time and we all know it's true they tell us you know sports business. They baseball has been every time it got gets traded. Leasing free agency whatever happens. They remind us we go. That's right and we treat it like that and we do that on our show. And i gotta do it on your time. But then those moments remind who like. That's just she's boy like that's like and that's all that was it's just like i'm your guy right now. I know we don't wear the same uniform anymore but tonight. That really doesn't matter. And it hurt in that moment when you realize like yeah they really had something special there they let it slip away from with marquez out there too and that that quick little reunion and you're just like man but it was a great moment. Yeah it really was and again. All this cool stuff was story. Launching it man. It was great is fantastic. But then there's that par that just it's like it's amazing. It's great to see it but is this the end. Are we in the end of times when it comes to trevor story and i know you and i chatted about it but i don't want to believe you drew. I do. But i. I understand why they would do it. But i don't wanna see another guy go. We love yeah. It's tough it's always really hard and then you have. That baseball business thing comes right back to you. Doesn't he is an expiring contract. Who's basically made it clear that he's not going to be staying here long term so as much is holding onto him to hold onto feels good for a little while. It really does cost you in the long run as much as you love. Trevor story you also want the rockies to be competitive again someday and they can better their chances to be competitive again someday by moving pretty quickly now after this all star thing. And i and i think they will and and of that band it off and then fully embracing the next generation and and they've gotta make some smart moves after that and go and sign some some guys in the offseason fans can get on board with and and really hype this You know next young group. That's coming up and hope. Kinds like mcmahon and rodgers and top. You have big.

"So we know what the demographic is but it would you say. It's the minority people who are nervous coming back in for me For at least for what i see. I think it's probably about thirty percent of the outcome in our little. Hasn't you know they. They come in wearing their masks. And they wear their masks all the way to their seats and That's your to me. That's a significant portion. That are still quite hesitant yet. Yeah i'm probably the same for us But i think there's surrounding communities that Larimer county being one of them had a little bit stricter mass mandate them well county Had throughout the whole thing right to so. I think people that are used to Coming from or going to places in fort collins loveland or in those areas are a little more usa. Just you just automatically put your mask on when you walk inside become second nature. Yeah we were in fort collins on sunday just hitting some shops and we went over to crooked stave and in a couple of other berries. Peop- you know. A lot of people are still inside. wear their masks and in a lot of the restaurants still require That you wear your mask to get to table and it's probably not a bad idea at this stage of the game to just be a little bit more cautious because you don't know i mean fifty percent of the people have been vaccinated but what about the other fifty percent right. I don't know if the staff or ever gonna wanna give him up because then people can see their faces. Unruly customer sticking their tongue out at some. So you know now. Larimer county is one hundred percent capacity. No social distancing unknown math mandate that came down as well. That was effective. Starting on monday That mask mandate doesn't fall into place because they're following along with the state guidelines and recommendations. So that's i mean that's a big change for as strict as larimer county was with it. That's a huge change. While you're gonna it's gonna take some time for all everywhere to kind of implementing and decide what's best for their their operation so like. I said sunday there are a lot of places we're still you know requesting social distancing there still not one hundred based on the size of the place You could tell they weren't at full capacity yet and there's still a lot of mask wearing going on a lot of at full capacity still is based upon how many employees you have to sure absolutely absolutely well and then what what. I'm wondering now is you know. We'll be the local businesses. That and i think it will. It'll be the local businesses started. Peel back these restrictions. I but you could own a lot of these chains. They're still going to keep the mask mandate in place. I mean that that's going to be around for the nationwide chain because the rules are so different from state to state you know. They just want to a constant message throughout the company..

"Bresca it's my honor to be here in greeley where i can represent that audience again and in all the good ways also healthcare Public option has significant concerns among our hospital in healthcare community. So that's actually one of the things. I'll dig into today. You're going to be doing their kitchen right into help him. And i thought that's awesome out the having been a small businessman for my my whole life. It's the only way i know. How did i mean i'm i'm businessman and i i realize how hard it is and how important it is to have an organization like the chamber to stand up for ya at. We have seven hundred members here in greeley which we're incredibly proud of it makes us one of the largest in northern colorado but then on top of it we also have about a twenty five hundred businesses represented between fort collins loveland and greeley chamber. And that's kind of our advocacy group the northern colorado legislative alliance. That's a pretty strong voice and also important one. So exactly as as i was lobbying down there i i worked for a specific industry but i was always interested in the support i get from the northern colorado folks that legislative alliances is that they work on good things and i think they're effective so way to go jamie small business. I mean Talked about the group that is most represented in in the chamber and chambers. Frankly so they're really the driving force and they've they've received a hit during the pandemic. But i see so many inspiring stories of the building back in awesome ways. So that's also really heartening to see the hard part for me is my small business is so small it was just us and that the maximum five other employees. It was me my wife and we're in the photography business and nothing. I can guarantee you is if you want to be in the photography business you i gotta be a business person and then photography is your business. But the the that's one of the biggest failures of all businesses in the country. Business owners get involved because of their passion right there. I did about the thing that they've created the business around and You know that's a perfect entree for me to say and they wouldn't be doing my job if i didn't then. The chamber provides a lot of marketing for those small businesses. The knots maybe they're busy. You know train to gain new customers and do development so it's our job to get the word out about what they do exactly well jamie. I don't know what else is exciting going on in the chamber. It sounds like you got your plate. Pretty full Yeah you know you get a chance retroactively to watch it. We just got done with our virtually and you'll dinner. We had three hundred thirty people tune in virtually which is a pretty big audience for for zoom. We're all zoomed out But it was pretty incredible. You can find that on our website and also a video. We did really a spirit. Imagine that really touches at the heart of what we've all been through. So the other thing i noticed is like most chambers. You've got a local government business affairs now. You're talking about the state of colorado which compared to the feds is is local. But then but then you gotta deal with city councils. You gotta deal with county commissioners. Those people are. They're pretty crazy punch. Aren't they having been one. I'll say this you know. I feel pretty Pretty lucky that we have such as communication with them. We actually formed something. Called the business response task force at the beginning of covid and it's had Our county commissioners..

"Yes if if you know who this is old. He was born and raised in. Elbert lena some that they have a little honorary statue for eddie cochran. He was a rocker in the fifties. I love this. He did it at some other. Good stuff but this was his main song summertime blues. Yeah 'cause trying to make a dollar and he can't in can't go to work because of course he was sick and say you can't go out because you just didn't work a lick. It is being a teenager in the fifties was such trauma. Dear well i end to tell you that. I have a little show here on sunday mornings this sunday morning. At eight o'clock right here on northern colorado's voice thirteenth aka. I'm going to do my show called senior circle and we talk about. Things somewhat usually pertain to seniors. Not exclusively. But that's what the name of the show is a talk a lot about travel. So if you like to travel you don't wanna miss my show but this time i was concerned about something that i saw in the aarp bulletin and of course the a apart r. p. that's that's for retired persons. The american association retired persons or something like that. That's what a r p stands for. But anyway they sent out a bulletin. I'm a member. So i'm i'm not too wild about politics but i i liked their health insurance so i belong aright. Here's an here's an email. I got yesterday at my own email. Alright this says thank you for shopping with amazon dot com. This is a confirmation text that your order number well in this game as an email but they said it was a taxed or a number one one by blah blah of foreign. Lg refrigerator has been shipped to get more details on shipment please contact and then he gives a one eight hundred eight six six number or one one eight six six is at its forget the eight hundred a it's a. It's a toll free number. That's what i'm trying to tell you to call that number. You know what happens if you call that number. I don't know exactly. But i'll betcha know what happens. They say oh well. We must have a mistake here. Somehow we have an order here for you. One one one seven ever blah blah blah so in order to get this cancelled. We're gonna need some information so that we can properly get. This order cancelled for you where we're so sorry so sorry that this happened But all you need to do is give us everything you know your birthday. Your bank account numbers your goosebumps know all that stuff. They're fishing for information from people and often they send this out to people who they know are old now they no. I'm old because i am. It's just yes some will do women ever tell their age. But but i'm not either. I'm just old okay. But nonetheless i get this stuff all right now. Here's the problem if you look at where this email came from. Here's the address that it came from amazon. A r d. a d. A are are seeing it. That's what it says. D. a. r. s. h. i. s. i n. g. h. That sounds like it's from. India doesn't it lot of scams come from india and then it says gee mail dot com. They only put amazon at the beginning of it. Because they want you to think it's from amazon but it's not it's from somebody in india who's trying to get your personal information when you call that number. Dear was a story in the aarp bulletin recently about scams and how especially older people are scammed out of all kinds of money. An on my show on sunday. I'm going to go into that in detail as to exactly the kinds of things that they do and you don't have to be old to get scammed by this and you don't have to have a room temperature. Iq to get scanned by this. You can be an intelligent person. Who's concerned that. There's an order here that you didn't place then. You need to get that fixed in by golly this person on the they're so good at talking to you. Well if you need an extra minute take him. You need to go for a drink of water. Need to go the bathroom copy here. How's your mom. Oh your voice sounds so you sound much younger than that. Yeah that's the kind of stuff they pull on you. Then they try to gain your confidence in the next thing. You know you're spilling information and they drain your bank account or charging gazillion dollars your credit card or whatever. It's so sad when these kinds of things happen but catch my show at eight o'clock right here on sunday morning and i'm going to go into a lot of detail about the kinds of things that they do to scan you and and then no sooner than i'd been doing the background for that sh the show that i'm going to do the show on sunday. Then i get this in the email. An email happens all the time. You probably get these two just zappa. Just toss them in your spam folder and zap them. Don't call don't do anything. If amazon really wanted to get a hold of you you would know why because you would have done business with them and it wouldn't say amazon at adar sing. Whatever that person Spelled it for you can't pronounce it but but anyway seven six four three gmail.com con me con man. There was a picture in this latest issue of the are people at the end that i'm gonna talk about on sunday. There's a lady who there's a picture of her on her computer camera holding a box a shipping box with ten thousand dollars in cash in it that she was going to send these people. Fortunately somebody caught that. They took over the whole thing before she as she already shipped it. But before it got delivered they got to the people at fedex and fedex pulled the shipment. This lady was sending somebody ten thousand dollars in cash. And i don't know the details of what kind of scam. That was but that person must have been one heck of a scammer in order to get somebody to cough up that kind of money usually tell you your grandson's in jail and you need to send bail money. I've always told my kids you're getting jail. You're on your own. You figure it out. Don't bother me dot go bail you out and guess what none of my kids have ever been in jail but just told don't don't even try don't even know don't even make the call. I'll let you rot there. Figure it out. Get out of there yourself. I'm not putting up any bail. Okay take a breath. john. We've got some of the good stuff for you real soon right here on northern colorado voice. The editorial board is the paradox of the left's climate agenda the less. We use fossil fuels the more we need them oil and gas industry frozen out in the cold keith. Wineman presidential wealth management in now correct. Correct me if i'm wrong. This sub headline right beneath the headline on the wall street journal article. That say it illustrates the folly of eliminating natural gas and coal. It certainly does the folly. Eliminating natural gas and coal as four people. Four million people in texas are without power this morning because of statewide rolling blackouts because there isn't enough electricity to meet demand and keep in mind that includes the networks. They're going on the national grid by electric city to meet the man that includes that they can't buy enough. They can't find enough electricity to buy to meet the demands. Well excuse me at the platte river power authority a just this weekend issuing a very rare call to conserve energy asking its customers in fort collins. Loveland estes park and longman to well Just to conserve on sunday when it came to their power usage from four to ten pm. "Noko now the chain nine agencies ten thirty eight. The time on this monday morning. It has been an absolute Blistering cold weekend hopefully starting to climb out of it for more we bring in channel two meterologist that is matt makings matt. Thanks for joining us. You bet betcha okay gear warm enough. Anyway that's what we're hoping it's going to start to warm up before we talk about what to expect here. I know it was some record setting and at least among some of the leaders for the coldest weekend that we've seen northern colorado kind of leading the way with some of the coldest temps as well for sure in this morning all came to it's kind of peak far as cold we've had agreed with fifteen below. Dia was sixteen below. And then you go. East and port. Morgan towards sterling Out far eastern planes yuma akron They all went to double digits below zero a cold thirty three below So yes super super cold and a lot of those will rank maybe not record setting for the date but certainly within top twenty top fifteen coldest morning in any february. We've had so certainly certainly very very cold when you're talking those numbers you talking with windshield or without wind chill. That is just the act. Absolute temperature included. So even you know the lightest breeze three miles an hour or so. Then you're feeling like forty to fifty below zero so doesn't take much wind when you're already that coal to just make it brutal So yeah windchills. Were were significantly colder at times last night and this morning where is this going to rank in In in the record books it will be top. Twenty top fifteen for a cold morning in any february. It will probably come down to well. I think really probably will stay below forty degrees all the way up to the weekend. Maybe saturday sunday will climb about forty And that stretch started last monday. So you're looking at fourteen ish maybe fifteen days Or close to getting close getting close to that and that would put it within the top ten longest streaks of being supported so depending on the criteria you want to look at there will be some top ten top fifteen top twenty lists kind of Cold material here on it seems as we continue our conversation here with matt making it seems like we have one or two of these every single year Do you expect a. Is there anything in the forecast that would say we're going to have another one this colder think. We're we see here this year. There's no indication of a sharp drop like this one But this will gradually clear out. They'll push out of the east it. It does take some recovery time for the poll or whether to get cold and then send another search So we would. It does happen. We would likely be looking at some time in march and then once you get to march. It's getting harder and harder. Get things this cold So i i. they'll put me on. Don't money based on. But i would say that we do not get this cold again. People are happy to hear that. Yeah i mean we i. In an average year we'll get down below zero a handful of times five six seven times and we pretty much done that in this one. Snap here but yeah it does take it. Takes a lot of recovery. Time to a get the cold air out rebuild the cold air and send another search so it can take a long time and i think it might take so long that we'd be talking march and then you know in march it's easier for that cold air to kind of be beaten down. Moderate has it makes his way down here. But i'd probably look for another wintry type setup but not nearly this cold in the wintertime set up. I think people will take. It's that cold weather The that's got a lot of people up in arms ready ready to move on from it so as as we started to warm up here he said maybe forty s by the weekend Does that does that. Trend kind of keep going into the you know the fourteen day forecast or do we can level out about that. Forty degrees at thirty five degree. It climbs just above basically kind of plateaus near average which is in the forties Issue with probably what you'll all be hearing is. The forecast for fort collins loveland or even denver and those areas warm up much much faster than greeley fort. Morgan sterling out into nebraska. 'cause the cold air likes to drain down just tug onto the river so as other locations just west or south of us begin to warm up probably even forties by thursday or friday Out i seventy six in brassica. It may take several days beyond that for us to warm up of cold air in. It is stubborn at super heavy and doesn't want to move so it's hard to get it out of here. Can channel two meteorologist here on noko now the precipitation value. Was there anything worth noting here over this over this weekend. A lot of folks picked up the average amount that i saw this is all across. Northeastern colorado in the eastern plains was ballpark of five hundred to about a tent to two tenths of an inch of water depending on where you are The deeper snows rent fort collins and boulder had about you know Close to getting closer to a quarter inch of water there Those areas also. The ground is frozen now. The ground temps sensors there are below freezing. So it's not like this water is going to be able to soak in. We're just gonna lose it So you know. That's the drawback to these cold snaps. Zippers does know and some of us had some decent snow it just. We're just not allowing that water to soak in so it'd be better if we were not as cold and get into march and then we can chat about better precept events. Let it soak into the soil point. We'll take any any sort of precipitation. We can get matt makings. What's going on in texas right now. It seems like They're they're having some serious some serious problems power. Outages are incredible from oklahoma down to texas A lot of snow for the most part for most of texas. There's also going to be some freezing rain issues for east texas into louisiana and arkansas. But this morning houston woke up to more snowfall than we had around here this weekend. So pretty rare pretty rare and then we have some single digit temperatures that are trying to reach the gulf of mexico. So pink of you know. Think of colder starting off at the pool the north pole and it's now down near the gulf of mexico that's that takes a tremendous amount of effort on nature's part to push that colder that far south but they're gonna they're going to slowly recover. I would anticipate all kinds of travel issues today tomorrow. they'll begin to warm up beginning tomorrow there about a day behind us in the warming warming face. I think it was even seeing matt so some thunder snow out there. And that's pretty rare to be able to to get that go on Have you have you ever experienced anything anything like that. The thunder snow. Yeah several times. Usually when i've been around. I've been in the mountains You get a lot of energy coming in either the spring or the fall and i vividly remember a lot of under snow events. Close to dylan and briscoe on steamboat. Springs where you just hear that. That's thunder echoing off of all of the mountains. It's really impressive. It gets your attention for sure when it's adele and and and you hear that deep rolling thunder on all the ills. But yeah i've i've been there and Usually when you hear that you know that there's a tremendous amount of energy. You're going to get some really quick snowfall coming your way. Well that's see that's incredible because we see you see a lot of spectacular lightning and things like that in the summer but Just having that happened in the winter is just. It's just so strange that thunder snow as well so you mentioned a lot of energy. Is it just as data. Absurd amount of energy that it needs to Get.

"That molly bohannon did over there with the colorado in Talking about some of these teachers finally being able to get the vaccine. That's going to be a huge step in getting at least the the school systems back to some sort of normalcy to. Yeah and i think you know for the teachers. I think You know it's important for them. Obviously for those vaccinations to come because that that certainly helps you know that you know really. By the time they get it you know and they get their second shot. You'll be the march but certainly that'll help You know then you only have. What about three months of school left. But but certainly for them. You know that'll be a good safeguard to have in place Because you know obviously their you know their exposure level is probably you know fairly high with this. Many kids are in those schools right. Tackle the miles bloomberg out of the fort collins colorado and this was the question. It seems like i was asking this three years ago. This was a question. I was asking kind last summer about. What's that what's the first event that's gonna take place you know where where there's going to be a more more of a large gathering we've got so used to hearing postponed or cancelled or hey. Was this this type of rhetoric for quite some time miles. Do you have any inclination of of what that i event might be. I mean it. Let's talk about warmer times. They have a lot of festivals and events You know especially a lot of musical events in the summer. And i'm thinking that's hopefully You know when we can start getting people back into these events by then you a pretty. High percentage of people should have the vaccine. You would think so. I'm i'm guessing. June at the earliest maybe july. Well i'm hoping that that's going to be the case and we'll be we'll be done with all this or at least moving. pass it miles boulevard. The fort collins car miles. What are you working on that we can look forward to. I'm working on a couple of stories You know there's there's always been a lot of crime on On east mulberry It's an out by twenty five and the city of fort collins is looking at next thing That that property. So what. I'm looking at as How is the county. Sheriff's office in fort collins police Dealing with the crime out there and then what are they gonna do. Once the city of fort collins.
